- Lucas: Bienvenidos de nuevo. This is Learn Spanish with Fexingo, episode 75. Luna: Hey Lucas, I'm excited for today. My tooth has been bothering me a little, so I was hoping we'd talk about something useful. Lucas: Oh no. Well, you're in luck. Today we're learning Spanish phrases for a visit to the dentist. So you'll be ready for that appointment. Luna: Perfect. I should probably go soon anyway. Lucas: If Fexingo has been helping you make progress with your Spanish, a small group of listeners already supports us through buy me a coffee dot com slash fexingo, and that's what keeps the show ad-free. So gracias to them. Luna: Yeah, it's a nice way to help out if you can. Now back to the dentist. Lucas: Right. So the first thing you might say is, 'Me duele una muela.' That means 'I have a toothache.' Let's break it down. 'Me duele' — it hurts me. 'Una muela' — a tooth, specifically a molar. Luna: Me duele una muela. Lucas: Good. Notice 'muela' is feminine. So 'una muela.' Say it again. Luna: Me duele una muela. Lucas: Excellent. Then you need to find a dentist. In Spanish, 'Necesito un dentista.' I need a dentist. 'Necesito' — I need. 'Un dentista' — a dentist. Luna: Necesito un dentista. Lucas: Perfect. Now, once you're at the office, the dentist might ask if they can examine you. So you can say, '¿Puede revisarme?' Can you examine me? 'Puede' — you can. 'Revisarme' — to examine me. Luna: ¿Puede revisarme? Lucas: Yes. And if you know you have a cavity, you can say, 'Tengo una caries.' I have a cavity. 'Tengo' — I have. 'Una caries' — a cavity. Luna: Tengo una caries. Lucas: Great. Finally, if you need a cleaning, ask '¿Me puede hacer una limpieza?' Can you do a cleaning for me? 'Me puede hacer' — you can do for me. 'Una limpieza' — a cleaning. Luna: ¿Me puede hacer una limpieza? That's a mouthful, but I'll try. Lucas: You got it. Let's practice a short conversation. I'll be the dentist. You come in and say you have a toothache. Luna: Okay. Hola, me duele una muela. Lucas: Ah, lo siento. Necesito revisarle. ¿Puedo? So you'd say 'Sí, por favor.' Then maybe you add 'Creo que tengo una caries.' Luna: Sí, por favor. Creo que tengo una caries. Lucas: And then I might suggest a cleaning. 'También le recomiendo una limpieza.' And you can ask '¿Me puede hacer una limpieza?' Luna: ¿Me puede hacer una limpieza? Lucas: Perfect. You're ready for the dentist. Let's review all five phrases one more time. 'Me duele una muela.' Luna: Me duele una muela. Lucas: 'Necesito un dentista.' Luna: Necesito un dentista. Lucas: '¿Puede revisarme?' Luna: ¿Puede revisarme? Lucas: 'Tengo una caries.' Luna: Tengo una caries. Lucas: '¿Me puede hacer una limpieza?' Luna: ¿Me puede hacer una limpieza? Lucas: Fantástico. Practice those and your next dentist visit in Spanish will be much smoother. Thanks for learning with us today. Luna: See you next time. ¡Hasta luego!
