- 0:02SPEAKER_02: This episode of the Mike's Blitz is brought to you by my seven leg Parle that died with 90 seconds left as Clemson throws a pick six and$900 bounds out the door.
- 0:15SPEAKER_02: All that and more right here on this episode of the Mike Blitz podcast.
- 0:22SPEAKER_03: In my mind you won, man.
- 0:24SPEAKER_03: In my mind, you won.
- 0:27SPEAKER_02: I knew it was the blessing.
- 0:30SPEAKER_03: Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to the Mike Blitz.
- 0:32SPEAKER_03: I'm your host, Mike Wayne, my co-host over there, Mark Franson and Darren Steadman.
- 0:37SPEAKER_03: Happy evening, gentlemen.
- 0:38SPEAKER_03: How y'all doing?
- 0:41SPEAKER_01: Still good.
- 0:42SPEAKER_01: Mark is living the dream.
- 0:43SPEAKER_01: Darren, how are you?
- 0:44SPEAKER_01: It's a yeah, good.
- 0:47SPEAKER_01: Good.
- 0:48SPEAKER_01: It was quite a sweat Saturday night, quite a sweat on the parlay.
- 0:52SPEAKER_01: Um a lot of winners out there who cashed out a good amount from our nine-legger.
- 0:59SPEAKER_01: So yeah.
- 0:59SPEAKER_01: Good sweat though.
- 1:02SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 1:02SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 1:03SPEAKER_03: It really was a fun sweat.
- 1:04SPEAKER_03: I know.
- 1:05SPEAKER_03: So at one, so the the grand, the the grant enchilada was like$3,600, I think, on a$10 bet.
- 1:11SPEAKER_03: But most folks bet$10 after those seven legs go in.
- 1:14SPEAKER_03: The books were offering between like$750 and$800.
- 1:16SPEAKER_03: I know of at least seven people that took the$800 cash out right then and there that were like, I'm going to bed, I'm out.
- 1:24SPEAKER_03: So no, we didn't hit it.
- 1:26SPEAKER_03: It wasn't like week zero where we actually hit the five-leg parlay bet, but I know a lot of people made money.
- 1:32SPEAKER_03: And there's a whole other wave of people that kind of when the things in the Baylor game started to go sideways, they hit cash out.
- 1:38SPEAKER_03: So I think a whole other wave of people took 300, 400, 200 while they were while their cash out was falling off.
- 1:44SPEAKER_03: So my point collectively, we took the book for thousands this week.
- 1:48SPEAKER_03: So I'm gonna go ahead and I'm gonna go ahead and cheers to us for sticking to the books.
- 1:53SPEAKER_03: I mean, I think we get a little bit of credit for that.
- 1:55SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 1:56SPEAKER_01: For a big that big win.
- 1:58SPEAKER_02: I made a mistake.
- 1:58SPEAKER_02: I hit all the wagers we selected as a group, but instead of the first half under, I took the second half under for Miami and Cleansing.
- 2:08SPEAKER_02: Now the first half under at 24 and a half, they put up what?
- 2:10SPEAKER_03: 24.
- 2:11SPEAKER_03: 23.
- 2:12SPEAKER_03: It was a proof, it was a hell of a sweat that they hit.
- 2:14SPEAKER_02: And then the second half was at 23 with 90 seconds late.
- 2:17SPEAKER_02: And Tate Reynolds rolls out to the right and throws a pick six.
- 2:21SPEAKER_02: And like I knew it.
- 2:22SPEAKER_02: I didn't count the money.
- 2:24SPEAKER_02: And then so Dered, I did a$10 bet.
- 2:26SPEAKER_02: I did it on Caesars because I don't have I didn't have any money in FanDuel or whatever one that was sent over.
- 2:31SPEAKER_02: And I was like, I don't want to stay up for Arizona State in Baylor.
- 2:34SPEAKER_02: I don't want to stay up for Arizona Cincinnati.
- 2:36SPEAKER_02: So I'm gonna do the genius, by the way.
- 2:39SPEAKER_02: Which is good on you.
- 2:40SPEAKER_02: It was a$10 bet that, like, no matter what, if I lost, I got the$10 back.
- 2:44SPEAKER_02: So they wouldn't offer me a cash out.
- 2:48SPEAKER_02: I was sitting there with a cash out option.
- 2:49SPEAKER_02: I was sitting talking to Mike.
- 2:50SPEAKER_02: I was like, like I had the money.
- 2:52SPEAKER_02: I'm like, they offer me$300 right now.
- 2:53SPEAKER_02: I'm watching.
- 2:54SPEAKER_02: Because it was a$10 bet to win$947.
- 2:58SPEAKER_02: And I mean, I already told my wife I'm paying for the washing machine.
- 3:03SPEAKER_02: I was like, we're doing it.
- 3:04SPEAKER_02: I want to pay for it.
- 3:05SPEAKER_02: Because our washing machine broke last week.
- 3:07SPEAKER_03: But you didn't even mean to do the second half.
- 3:09SPEAKER_03: It was just a keystroke error.
- 3:10SPEAKER_03: You knew I didn't mean to.
- 3:12SPEAKER_03: No.
- 3:12SPEAKER_03: Because I thought the monsoon was coming in.
- 3:14SPEAKER_02: And I thought it was gonna rain.
- 3:16SPEAKER_02: It didn't rain.
- 3:17SPEAKER_02: Oh my god.
- 3:18SPEAKER_03: Oh, so you so you did choose the second half.
- 3:20SPEAKER_03: I didn't know that part.
- 3:20SPEAKER_02: No, no, it was a mistake because I wanted to do the money.
- 3:22SPEAKER_02: Okay, it was a mistake.
- 3:23SPEAKER_02: I just yeah, yeah.
- 3:24SPEAKER_02: What I need to do is just you put the link in Discord, and I just need to follow the link.
- 3:29SPEAKER_02: At least populate the link.
- 3:30SPEAKER_02: And then if I can take stuff off, I'll take stuff off.
- 3:32SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 3:33SPEAKER_03: Right.
- 3:33SPEAKER_03: Can't make that up.
- 3:34SPEAKER_02: But the moral of the story, guys, is you were awesome this week.
- 3:38SPEAKER_02: You guys it was awesome.
- 3:40SPEAKER_01: It was a good one.
- 3:42SPEAKER_01: And Mark, you said it last week.
- 3:44SPEAKER_01: You said, Mark, I'll be counting that money at 9 p.m.
- 3:48SPEAKER_01: and two o'clock in the morning.
- 3:49SPEAKER_01: And you were exactly right about that for what it's worth, which is nothing.
- 3:54SPEAKER_01: So fun.
- 3:55SPEAKER_02: It was so it was fun.
- 3:57SPEAKER_01: It was a lot of good stuff.
- 3:58SPEAKER_02: We watching that Miami game, just yelling at the screen was yes, yeah.
- 4:02SPEAKER_03: That was a ball.
- 4:03SPEAKER_03: That was a ball.
- 4:04SPEAKER_03: I think of I think my new rule is I'm not betting on Big 12 football after dark anymore.
- 4:08SPEAKER_03: I didn't see DJ Lagway throwing four touchdown passes on my Bingo card.
- 4:12SPEAKER_03: I also didn't see Cincinnati only scoring seven points.
- 4:15SPEAKER_03: The Big 12, we'll know this.
- 4:17SPEAKER_03: We talk about it all the time.
- 4:18SPEAKER_03: The Big 12 is pure chaos, and we're just rolling the dice.
- 4:21SPEAKER_03: I think for we could talk about this more on Tuesday when we get into next week's parlay.
- 4:24SPEAKER_03: Be sure you're listening, be sure you're following, be sure you're subscribing so you can see it.
- 4:27SPEAKER_03: We're gonna we're gonna we're gonna run it back.
- 4:29SPEAKER_03: We're gonna get them all this time.
- 4:30SPEAKER_03: I'm thinking no more Big 12 after 11 o'clock game for the rest of the season.
- 4:34SPEAKER_03: Let's just stay away from that space.
- 4:36SPEAKER_03: It's bad juju wrap back there.
- 4:38SPEAKER_01: If we talk about them, we split them out of the main bonanza parlay for only the late end sick o'clock and the main parlay at 10 p.m.
- 4:48SPEAKER_03: If we have a west coast listener, we'll make a parlay just for you.
- 4:52SPEAKER_03: Right.
- 4:52SPEAKER_03: Just for you.
- 4:53SPEAKER_03: Our soul.
- 4:54SPEAKER_03: Yeah, if we got somebody in Salt Lake tang it playing it splisting tonight, that one's for you.
- 4:59SPEAKER_03: We'll play a we'll get one just for you.
- 5:01SPEAKER_03: Just for a big Oregon State fan.
- 5:04SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 5:05SPEAKER_03: But I mean, otherwise, it was a brilliant play.
- 5:07SPEAKER_03: I mean, we were spot on with Ohio State, with the Missoula over, the Alabama over.
- 5:13SPEAKER_03: Help me remember the Clemson first half under Auburn.
- 5:15SPEAKER_03: You were right off Nebraska covered.
- 5:18SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 5:19SPEAKER_03: I mean, we we we hit seven left.
- 5:23SPEAKER_01: How about that Kentucky money line?
- 5:25SPEAKER_01: Yes, that was the last play of the game.
- 5:28SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 5:28SPEAKER_03: The fact that he went for two and they got it.
- 5:30SPEAKER_03: Like that was oh man.
- 5:31SPEAKER_02: I was pissed when they didn't kick the field goal at the end, at least try the field goal in regulation and then went to overtime.
- 5:38SPEAKER_03: That was such a bad pass before the ball when they had he threw the he threw the ball eight yards downfield, so it wouldn't be even stopped on the first down moving the chains.
- 5:45SPEAKER_03: It was ridiculous how they got there.
- 5:47SPEAKER_03: But you're right.
- 5:47SPEAKER_03: The fact that they didn't have a single Hail Mary shot, field, even if it was like a 58-yard field goal, they had nothing.
- 5:53SPEAKER_03: But anyway, it all worked out.
- 5:54SPEAKER_03: The football gods were on their side and they got the win.
- 5:57SPEAKER_03: So anyway, make sure the point of the story is make sure you're tailing the parlay because we're getting hot.
- 6:01SPEAKER_03: We're getting in the zone.
- 6:02SPEAKER_03: We are seeing things clear, and so that's great.
- 6:05SPEAKER_03: Oh no, no, we this year we have a lot of things.
- 6:06SPEAKER_03: Nobody is guaranteed.
- 6:08SPEAKER_03: Nobody, not nobody is guaranteed.
- 6:10SPEAKER_03: This is for entertainment purposes only.
- 6:12SPEAKER_02: We're not telling you're guaranteed to win, but we have won before, and we welcome you to join us.
- 6:16SPEAKER_02: You want to try and win yourself.
- 6:18SPEAKER_01: That's what I'm saying.
- 6:19SPEAKER_01: Two years ago, it was two, yeah.
- 6:21SPEAKER_01: Two years ago for our new listeners, this mega parlay hit twice, and it was it was 110 to 1 and 120 to 1 or something like that.
- 6:31SPEAKER_03: Yeah, 130 to 1 was the second one.
- 6:33SPEAKER_03: It wasn't back to back weeks, but they were like two weeks apart.
- 6:35SPEAKER_03: Yeah, and it was and both of them were seven legs.
- 6:38SPEAKER_03: And uh, some some weeks we will go seven, seven might be the sweet spot now that you're saying that.
- 6:43SPEAKER_03: Because I mean, if we had done that this week, it would have been our third winner, it would have been our third winner, third seven leggers.
- 6:47SPEAKER_03: Maybe seven is the sweet spot.
- 6:48SPEAKER_03: Lucky seven, maybe there's something there in the universe.
- 6:51SPEAKER_03: I don't know.
- 6:52SPEAKER_03: Let's roll with that.
- 6:52SPEAKER_03: I don't know, yeah.
- 6:54SPEAKER_03: So it's but yeah, again, a lot of people, again, there are listeners who did play only seven and nine legs and they got well paid.
- 7:00SPEAKER_03: So really happy for y'all.
- 7:01SPEAKER_03: We're so happy for all of you.
- 7:03SPEAKER_03: Yeah, really are.
- 7:04SPEAKER_03: All right, so tonight we're gonna quickly unpack what happened this week in the college football world, and then we will wrap up.
- 7:10SPEAKER_03: And then next time you hear from us, we will be doing the quick six.
- 7:13SPEAKER_03: Before I turn over to you, Mark, I just want to say did anybody else notice the ugly uniforms that happened in college football this week?
- 7:20SPEAKER_03: There were so many bad alt uniforms.
- 7:22SPEAKER_03: Houston, Tennessee, Yukon, and Texas AM all had hideous alt uniforms.
- 7:29SPEAKER_03: Tennessee specifically.
- 7:31SPEAKER_03: That was the worst alt uniform ever seen.
- 7:32SPEAKER_03: Some people said Air Force as well, although I'll go back on what I actually like the Air Force alt.
- 7:36SPEAKER_03: Did you what do you got?
- 7:38SPEAKER_02: I like the Tennessee jersey.
- 7:39SPEAKER_02: I just didn't like the helmets.
- 7:40SPEAKER_02: And I was listening personally, somebody who hated the cream pants.
- 7:44SPEAKER_03: Yeah, the cream pants were awful.
- 7:46SPEAKER_03: And the two Tennessee was like it was like an orange duct tape across across the head that didn't look any good.
- 7:52SPEAKER_03: The Houston helmets were supposed to be like Houston, they're like an attribute to Nassau.
- 7:57SPEAKER_03: It was like a space helmet.
- 7:58SPEAKER_03: At the front of it was like a visor, which was dark like starry sky, and the back was white, and it just looked like so.
- 8:04SPEAKER_03: Obviously, if you were standing a foot from it, like the detail I'm sure was beautiful, but on TV, it just looked like looked like a bunch of like dipping dots running around.
- 8:11SPEAKER_03: They just look like a bunch of like botch paint jobs on helmets.
- 8:14SPEAKER_03: I hated it.
- 8:15SPEAKER_01: That's the one that stood out.
- 8:16SPEAKER_01: That robot helmet did not make any sense unless you had or holding it in your hands, which I was not.
- 8:22SPEAKER_01: Yes, me neither.
- 8:23SPEAKER_03: I bet you, I mean, like I if you live in if you're a Houston Cougar fan, you have that on your desk in your office, awesome.
- 8:28SPEAKER_03: But 85 men wearing that on TV, not so much, not so much.
- 8:32SPEAKER_03: And the Yukon, they had those bright red uniforms, they looked like Power Rangers, hated them.
- 8:36SPEAKER_03: So, yeah, anyway.
- 8:38SPEAKER_03: You guys you do not come here for I have no fashion.
- 8:40SPEAKER_03: I have zero little my I outsource all of my fashion takes to my wife.
- 8:44SPEAKER_03: So you do not come to this podcast for those.
- 8:46SPEAKER_03: So that's enough about anybody any more uniform takes before we move on?
- 8:51SPEAKER_03: No, less the better.
- 8:53SPEAKER_01: Give me a two, give me a two-tone, a two-tone jersey with no name on the back.
- 8:57SPEAKER_01: That's what I'm hearing about.
- 8:58SPEAKER_01: I love it.
- 8:58SPEAKER_03: I love it.
- 8:59SPEAKER_02: Take a I was gonna say, uh, do you want to start with the homers or do you want to start with the top 25 games?
- 9:04SPEAKER_03: Whatever your heart leads you, sir.
- 9:06SPEAKER_02: All right.
- 9:06SPEAKER_02: My heart's gonna lead me to the Alabama Crimson Tide who went to Mississippi State and had a dominant win 56-23 on Saturday.
- 9:14SPEAKER_02: Camario threw an interception early.
- 9:17SPEAKER_02: Alabama was hot.
- 9:18SPEAKER_02: Guys, what did we learn about the now number six Alabama Crimson Tide?
- 10:04SPEAKER_03: I got two takeaways.
- 10:05SPEAKER_03: One about Alabama, one about Mississippi State.
- 10:08SPEAKER_03: Mississippi State take Camario's just not enough.
- 10:11SPEAKER_03: He is very good.
- 10:12SPEAKER_03: And I didn't see anything that I saw in that game that dissuade that opinion at all.
- 10:16SPEAKER_03: I think he is awesome.
- 10:17SPEAKER_03: I think he's one of the top three, top five quarterbacks in the country.
- 10:20SPEAKER_03: I think he's very good.
- 10:22SPEAKER_03: He just doesn't have enough.
- 10:23SPEAKER_03: On the other side, Alabama is getting better fast.
- 10:28SPEAKER_03: I'm still have a little bit of the kind of schedule.
- 10:30SPEAKER_03: This is their best win of the season so far.
- 10:32SPEAKER_03: They haven't played a lot of great competition.
- 10:34SPEAKER_03: I still have concerns about their offensive line, their ability to run the ball outside of Keylon breaking down, but they are getting better every week, and Keylon is improving every week.
- 10:44SPEAKER_03: So those are my kind of two takeaways.
- 10:46SPEAKER_03: Camario's not enough, and Alabama is getting scary good quickly.
- 10:50SPEAKER_01: Yeah, Camario looked like 90% or more of a complete, amazing, awesome quarterback.
- 10:57SPEAKER_01: But what he's missing is that last fraction that a high-level quarterback needs, which is what's my third read?
- 11:04SPEAKER_01: What's my fourth read?
- 11:05SPEAKER_01: How do I move my feet three feet to the right or left in the pocket?
- 11:09SPEAKER_01: He took a lot of sacks because he's just simply standing still.
- 11:12SPEAKER_01: He doesn't have the vision.
- 11:14SPEAKER_01: But it's he has everything else.
- 11:16SPEAKER_01: He has so much, but at this level, the margins are just so thin.
- 11:20SPEAKER_01: And so he just doesn't have that vision to move around the pocket a little bit, throw the ball out of bounds a second earlier, and he just took they just sat there and took sacks because their defense held for five seconds.
- 11:33SPEAKER_01: And so you can't do that at the highest level.
- 11:35SPEAKER_01: And next year, uh bet he will, and we'll be talking about him in a major way after he's gonna go into the network or something.
- 11:42SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 11:43SPEAKER_03: I want to, I mean, I want I mean I want to give Kamari a little bit more, a little bit more flowers.
- 11:46SPEAKER_03: Mississippi State's offensive line is not good, and Alabama's front is scary.
- 11:50SPEAKER_03: They were beating, they were throwing them around a lot.
- 11:53SPEAKER_03: There is something to be said.
- 11:54SPEAKER_03: We have seen you and all three of us have watched enough football, even at the Pro Bowl level, where we've seen high-level Hall of Fame NFL quarterbacks crack under pressure.
- 12:04SPEAKER_03: The pressure was relentless.
- 12:05SPEAKER_03: They were all they were in Camario's face the entire time.
- 12:09SPEAKER_03: While I totally agree with you, Darren, you're right.
- 12:11SPEAKER_03: I think it's a lot of that is if if he was behind the Dallas Cowboys of five years ago offensive line, we might be talking telling a different story.
- 12:18SPEAKER_03: He needs he needs more talent.
- 12:20SPEAKER_03: Mississippi State needs more talent, especially up front.
- 12:23SPEAKER_02: Yeah, Bama killed that run, game.
- 12:26SPEAKER_02: They had 30 Mississippi State had 30 carries for a total of 18 yards with five sacks.
- 12:31SPEAKER_02: Comario had negative 26 with the sacks added in there.
- 12:34SPEAKER_02: But even if you take that 26 out, they still average about a yard and a half a carry from the running backs for Mississippi State.
- 12:40SPEAKER_02: And Fluff Bothwell.
- 12:42SPEAKER_02: Yeah, yeah.
- 12:43SPEAKER_03: Yeah, he got hurt too.
- 12:44SPEAKER_03: Do yeah, and that's just not gonna that's just not gonna cut it in what Jeff Levy's RPO's thing is gonna do.
- 12:48SPEAKER_03: RP what I mean, what they have to do is they have the run game keeps them honest.
- 12:52SPEAKER_03: That's how Levy gets those big plays.
- 12:54SPEAKER_03: That's how they get guys creeping in the box to slow down Fluff so then he can go over the top to into an Anthony Evans who's streaking down the field as track speed.
- 13:01SPEAKER_03: And if they make that one dimensional and they're getting pressure and they're stopping the run with four, five, six Alabama defenders, and everybody else is dropping back, like that is just hard to throw on.
- 13:11SPEAKER_03: And Alabama secondary coming into the season was a top five secondary.
- 13:15SPEAKER_03: They've got NFL dudes across the back line.
- 13:18SPEAKER_03: So I don't want to take anything away from Mississippi State.
- 13:21SPEAKER_03: Obviously, it sucks to lose.
- 13:22SPEAKER_03: Losing sucks, but I'm still super bullish on Mississippi State.
- 13:26SPEAKER_03: I think the Camario's ceiling is only getting better.
- 13:28SPEAKER_03: I don't they ran to a wall, and that's all that happened here.
- 13:31SPEAKER_02: I mean, they're uh they are where they should be.
- 13:33SPEAKER_02: They were 16th going into last week after the poll release today.
- 13:36SPEAKER_02: They're up to 17.
- 13:37SPEAKER_02: They were dropped one spot after that loss.
- 13:40SPEAKER_02: I think they're definitely in that that 12 to 17 range.
- 13:43SPEAKER_02: I think they're a pretty solid team.
- 13:45SPEAKER_02: Now, guys, I'm gonna take you to another game in the SEC, unless you have one closing thought there, Mike.
- 13:51SPEAKER_03: No, go ahead.
- 13:52SPEAKER_02: I'm gonna take you off.
- 13:53SPEAKER_02: Mike, you told us last week.
- 13:54SPEAKER_02: We were talking about the Gators, they take down Ole Miss in the swamp.
- 13:57SPEAKER_02: They were going to Missouri.
- 13:58SPEAKER_02: You were telling us about a letdown.
- 14:00SPEAKER_02: I had no idea Jamal Roberts would run 24 carries, 211 yards, and three touchdowns, and a dominant performance where Missouri took down the former number eight team of the nation, the Florida Gators, 45 to 17.
- 14:16SPEAKER_02: What did we learn about Florida and Missouri in this game?
- 14:21SPEAKER_01: Simmons is the man.
- 14:23SPEAKER_03: Simmons is the man.
- 14:24SPEAKER_03: Simmons is a man.
- 14:25SPEAKER_03: I think I learned that I was right.
- 14:26SPEAKER_03: It was too soon.
- 14:26SPEAKER_03: We were we crowned Florida too quickly.
- 14:29SPEAKER_03: And it there was folks talking about comparing them to the 2019 LSU Tigers on Twitter last week, and that was obviously nonsense.
- 14:35SPEAKER_03: Now, to be fair, I was wrong about Miami, which we'll talk about later, but I was spot on about Florida.
- 14:39SPEAKER_03: They are not immune to a letdown spot, which part of it was that, but also Missouri just thumped them.
- 14:46SPEAKER_03: Austin Simmons was throwing howitzers.
- 14:49SPEAKER_03: That guy, I heard someone describe it, I was talking about throwing his throwing a football.
- 14:52SPEAKER_03: It looked like a tech mobile football when someone throws a bomb and just never goes that high.
- 14:57SPEAKER_03: It's like a frozen rope.
- 14:58SPEAKER_03: And that's what he was throwing.
- 15:00SPEAKER_03: Caden Lee and Utabale, I think is his Utabale.
- 15:07SPEAKER_03: Two awesome receivers.
- 15:08SPEAKER_03: Florida's secondary was questionable, sketchy anyway, exposed the pages out of that.
- 15:12SPEAKER_03: They couldn't run.
- 15:13SPEAKER_03: I think we all, including myself, didn't recognize how good Missouri's front was.
- 15:17SPEAKER_03: Jaden Ball was a non-factor.
- 15:18SPEAKER_03: I think he was 12 carries for 13 yards at one point.
- 15:21SPEAKER_03: And if they couldn't do that, now Aaron Philo looks like the normal counter quarterback that he is.
- 15:26SPEAKER_03: Those weapons, all those Lamborghinis on the outside, they couldn't get used.
- 15:29SPEAKER_03: And Buster Faulkner, he was able to scheme up a couple things like early in the game, first drive or two.
- 15:34SPEAKER_03: And then Missouri just had their way with them in a big way.
- 15:38SPEAKER_03: So congratulations to Missouri.
- 15:40SPEAKER_03: I mean, this is they always lose these games.
- 15:42SPEAKER_03: So I'm not really downgrading Florida much from where I thought they were.
- 15:45SPEAKER_03: I never thought they were a top five team.
- 15:47SPEAKER_03: I thought they were where they were, but I am bumping up Missouri.
- 15:50SPEAKER_03: Yeah with that quarterback, that running back, those two receivers, and a physical defensive line.
- 15:55SPEAKER_03: This might be the highest ceiling Missouri team that we've seen in some time.
- 15:59SPEAKER_01: Mike, you mentioned Coach Eli Drinkowitz's name for the Missouri Tigers.
- 16:04SPEAKER_01: Yeah, and so big kudos to any coach who can keep Jaden Ball.
- 16:08SPEAKER_01: His first run was 12 yards.
- 16:11SPEAKER_01: He finished the day with 13 yards.
- 16:14SPEAKER_01: Like that's that is studly.
- 16:17SPEAKER_01: So Coach Drinkowitz was not going to let that happen.
- 16:20SPEAKER_01: He was the, of course, the Florida Gator that they had to stop, and by God, they did.
- 16:25SPEAKER_01: So kudos to the coaching staff.
- 16:28SPEAKER_02: Big movement in the Bulls.
- 16:29SPEAKER_02: Florida did drop from 8 to 16.
- 16:31SPEAKER_02: Missouri moved up from 25 to 14.
- 16:34SPEAKER_02: So you've got SEC teams in a block right there.
- 16:36SPEAKER_02: Missouri at 14, Tennessee 15, Florida, 16, and Mississippi State 17.
- 16:41SPEAKER_02: Man, SEC is that is a perfect fitting for those four teams right there in the middle.
- 16:45SPEAKER_02: I think so.
- 16:46SPEAKER_01: The biggest riser and the biggest faller of the week.
- 16:50SPEAKER_02: Which I mean, I think they I think it was over.
- 16:52SPEAKER_02: I mean once when you regress to the means, like Florida was way overinflated up at number eight, but I think they're appropriately close to where they should be.
- 17:15SPEAKER_01: Florida was favored after the big win.
- 17:17SPEAKER_01: And Florida did the exact same thing this week.
- 17:20SPEAKER_01: They had the huge win over Ole Miss, and then all of a sudden they come to Missouri as the underdog, and it totally went the same exact story.
- 17:27SPEAKER_01: So I don't think we'd pay enough attention to that, that letdown spot when a team uh pours their heart out and then goes on the road the next week.
- 17:35SPEAKER_01: So whenever that's wherever that's happening next week, let's keep an eye out for it.
- 17:39SPEAKER_01: Because who's Missouri playing next?
- 17:42SPEAKER_02: They are hosting Texas AM.
- 17:46SPEAKER_03: We should bet AM just on principle.
- 17:48SPEAKER_03: I don't know.
- 17:48SPEAKER_03: I don't want to AM's not very good.
- 17:50SPEAKER_03: I don't think they're gonna win, but those AM and the points.
- 17:53SPEAKER_03: That's okay.
- 17:53SPEAKER_03: I'll take that.
- 17:54SPEAKER_03: I think AM beat Vanderbilt this week, too.
- 17:55SPEAKER_03: I think AM got an SEC win.
- 17:57SPEAKER_02: Oh, they beat Arkansas.
- 17:58SPEAKER_03: Oh, Arkansas.
- 17:59SPEAKER_03: Still, that's a win to win and to win.
- 18:01SPEAKER_03: So all of a sudden, I mean AM plus the points, and the it's happened every time.
- 18:04SPEAKER_03: It started with I mean, Darren was right.
- 18:06SPEAKER_03: It happened with the LSU Ole Miss theme.
- 18:08SPEAKER_03: Ole Miss had a letdown, Florida had a letdown, Missouri, the third breath down the row.
- 18:12SPEAKER_03: I think so.
- 18:13SPEAKER_03: We'll talk about that later.
- 18:14SPEAKER_01: Favored by four, only favored by three and a half against Texas AM.
- 18:18SPEAKER_01: So yeah, here we go.
- 18:20SPEAKER_01: There we go again.
- 18:21SPEAKER_02: Let's go to South Carolina.
- 18:23SPEAKER_02: Not all the way to the game cocks yet, but in a game that was supposed to be a monsoon where the Miami Hurricanes, who are ranked number four, went to Clemson.
- 18:31SPEAKER_02: I didn't see any rain, but what a fun game.
- 18:34SPEAKER_02: Miami won 41 to 13.
- 18:37SPEAKER_02: Tate Reynolds picked six at the end, ripped$937 out of my pocket.
- 18:42SPEAKER_02: Well, I never really had it, but God, I could taste it.
- 18:45SPEAKER_02: I could spend it.
- 18:46SPEAKER_02: I could spend it, guys.
- 18:47SPEAKER_02: What did we learn?
- 18:48SPEAKER_02: What did we learn about Clemson?
- 18:50SPEAKER_02: What did we learn about Miami last night?
- 18:52SPEAKER_03: Clemson's got the quarterback.
- 18:54SPEAKER_03: He taped through for 300 yards.
- 18:55SPEAKER_03: I mean, he actually had a pretty decent day.
- 18:57SPEAKER_03: He I was for a true freshman to do that, I mean, or a retro freshman, whatever, that's it's impressive.
- 19:02SPEAKER_03: I didn't think he was gonna get anywhere near that given where he had been from a month ago.
- 19:06SPEAKER_03: So I think Clemson has their guy, and he had a good day.
- 19:09SPEAKER_03: Despite that, they never had a chance to win this game.
- 19:13SPEAKER_03: At no point, even when it was six to seventeen, I think they got in a turnover.
- 19:17SPEAKER_03: At no point did I think Clemson was had any chance of threatening.
- 19:22SPEAKER_03: What I learned about these two teams, I for the the good thing for Clemson, the good news for Clemson, I think you have your quarterback.
- 19:27SPEAKER_03: I think he's he's a freshman.
- 19:28SPEAKER_03: If you can keep him and grow him and develop him, there's something there you can build on.
- 19:33SPEAKER_03: The other side of the coin is this was such a clear difference in the two squads.
- 19:38SPEAKER_03: Clemson is not supposed to put up a good fight against Miami, they're supposed to be competing with and beating Miami.
- 19:45SPEAKER_03: And after one quarter of watching that game, everybody knew they had no chance of doing that.
- 19:51SPEAKER_03: These two schools are miles apart.
- 19:53SPEAKER_03: The ACC is Miami, and now it seems like everybody else, I Clemson is the way down there.
- 20:00SPEAKER_03: So I think the discrepancy is what I saw.
- 20:01SPEAKER_03: And Miami didn't even have that impressive a game.
- 20:03SPEAKER_03: Mal Kai Tony was only okay.
- 20:05SPEAKER_03: Darien Menson was very efficient, where he did a great job.
- 20:08SPEAKER_03: They were penalized quite a bit, not a very clean, thorough performance, but never at any point were they threatening to actually lose that game.
- 20:16SPEAKER_01: Yeah, that's what I was gonna say, Mike.
- 20:18SPEAKER_01: Is it looks like Dabo is one step closer to out the door where he's not getting a whole lot of press right now.
- 20:24SPEAKER_01: But the thing that I saw about this game was that they were it was a close game, and Clemson kept getting penalized.
- 20:30SPEAKER_01: They're just making stupid mistakes.
- 20:32SPEAKER_01: They had 10 penalties for 91 yards, and I think it's pretty unanimous that the fingers point at the coach, coaching staff when that sort of thing happens, an undisciplined play.
- 20:44SPEAKER_01: Um, and I was gonna say what I learned about Clemson is that they're just firmly entrenched in that second tier, not the first tier of the ACC anymore.
- 20:53SPEAKER_01: We've been watching football for 10-15 years, and now we just have to make the mental shift.
- 20:57SPEAKER_01: Clemson is with Florida State and shoot who Wake Forest now, who has joined them in the middle tier of good, but never gonna beat Miami.
- 21:07SPEAKER_01: Tech yeah, tech, yeah, UVA.
- 21:10SPEAKER_03: SMU is probably now, yeah.
- 21:12SPEAKER_02: Like fighting to get in the top 25, just outside the top 25.
- 21:16SPEAKER_02: Just barely, right?
- 21:17SPEAKER_02: Happy if you're in the teens.
- 21:20SPEAKER_01: Right, right, right.
- 21:21SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 21:22SPEAKER_01: But not gonna beat Miami and what the team that Louisville should have been.
- 21:27SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 21:28SPEAKER_02: Exactly.
- 21:29SPEAKER_02: Let's take a look at another team, guys.
- 21:31SPEAKER_02: Also in South Carolina, Kentucky rolled in to Columbia last night and won in an overtime 35-34.
- 21:41SPEAKER_02: They went for two after they after they scored their touchdown in OT to win it.
- 21:45SPEAKER_02: Now, we took the Kentucky money line.
- 21:48SPEAKER_02: Wow, did I sweat that one, guys?
- 21:50SPEAKER_02: What did we learn about those two schools?
- 21:52SPEAKER_03: Nice bounce bounce back spot for I'll start with the losing team.
- 21:55SPEAKER_03: Lenore Sellers, nice bounce back.
- 21:57SPEAKER_03: I thought he played pretty good.
- 21:58SPEAKER_03: 17 carries, 150 yards.
- 22:00SPEAKER_03: He threw for 226, two touchdowns, no interceptions, no fumbles.
- 22:06SPEAKER_03: I don't think.
- 22:07SPEAKER_03: Oh, he lost one fumble, excuse me.
- 22:08SPEAKER_03: So only one turnover.
- 22:10SPEAKER_03: I thought he was efficient.
- 22:11SPEAKER_03: I thought he was playing really well, and I forgot what it looks like to watch him play.
- 22:15SPEAKER_03: He is big and fast and strong.
- 22:17SPEAKER_03: I'm back in on him as a high quality NFL prospect quarterback.
- 22:22SPEAKER_03: Unfortunately, it was an elusing effort because holy smokes, Kentucky is playing with her hair on fire.
- 22:28SPEAKER_03: This, what I learned about Kentucky, is I think this is a team that's going to play really hard for Will Stein every week.
- 22:33SPEAKER_03: Kenny Minchie got took some big shots.
- 22:35SPEAKER_03: He delivered 28 for 41, 272 yards, three picks.
- 22:38SPEAKER_03: CJ Baxter.
- 22:39SPEAKER_03: Kenny Darby, the former LSU player, 12 catches, 96 yards, and a touchdown.
- 22:44SPEAKER_03: Those guys played hard.
- 22:45SPEAKER_03: They were flying to the ball.
- 22:46SPEAKER_03: I never looked at they were panicking either.
- 22:48SPEAKER_03: I don't think Kentucky's that good.
- 22:50SPEAKER_03: I like their offensive line, but I don't think overall they're that good.
- 22:53SPEAKER_03: But they are going to play hard and give team fits, starting with my Tigers as early as next week.
- 22:58SPEAKER_03: I really liked what I'm seeing out of Kentucky so far.
- 23:03SPEAKER_01: Totally agree, Mike.
- 23:04SPEAKER_01: And what I've learned about college football over these years keeps coming true is that when you have a head coach and a quarterback combination, you are unstoppable in some, you have a little bit of magic in your back pocket.
- 23:16SPEAKER_01: And Will Stein is just he's just doing all the pulling all the right strings.
- 23:20SPEAKER_01: And that last sequence in overtime where Kenny Menche, I mean, my God, he was cool as a fan.
- 23:27SPEAKER_01: He stood in that pocket surrounded by 400 pounders and just tossed that little ball um for the touchdown pass.
- 23:35SPEAKER_01: And then coach said, go for two.
- 23:38SPEAKER_01: And he just watching him made me say, My God, I want that guy to be my quarterback.
- 23:43SPEAKER_01: He was just absolutely nails.
- 23:46SPEAKER_01: And then he threw that last two-point conversion in the back in the end zone.
- 23:49SPEAKER_01: Just like he was just like he was tossing a beanbag to a kid.
- 23:53SPEAKER_01: He's just like, Here you go.
- 23:54SPEAKER_01: Are we done yet?
- 23:55SPEAKER_01: Can I go home?
- 23:56SPEAKER_03: Felt like it's ice.
- 23:58SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 23:59SPEAKER_03: Ice.
- 23:59SPEAKER_03: It's it's funny because obviously we were sweating that out because that was a huge part of our parlay.
- 24:03SPEAKER_03: The money line, they were Kentucky was dogs, they were three-point dogs coming into this game.
- 24:06SPEAKER_03: We hit that one.
- 24:07SPEAKER_03: It was a great call by us.
- 24:08SPEAKER_03: But it when they went for two, it's just I just Minchy was confident.
- 24:12SPEAKER_03: Will Stein was confident.
- 24:13SPEAKER_03: They were trying on the field.
- 24:14SPEAKER_03: I was like, I mean, obviously I was nervous, but I just felt like they were gonna get it.
- 24:18SPEAKER_03: And I'm just with when you're playing with confidence and that kind of swagger, and you like you feel you can move the ball up and down the field, good things happen.
- 24:25SPEAKER_03: Good things happen.
- 24:26SPEAKER_03: Remember, they were down 14-10 at half and they stormed back.
- 24:30SPEAKER_03: So I'm just I'm continually impressed with Kentucky.
- 24:33SPEAKER_03: I'm surprised Beamer on the other side.
- 24:35SPEAKER_03: I'm surprised Beamer still has a job.
- 24:36SPEAKER_03: Somehow no one's been fired yet.
- 24:38SPEAKER_03: And there's a lot of guys who could have gotten fired this week.
- 24:41SPEAKER_02: Shane Beaver is rolling in at number three on coacheshotseat.com behind Mike Norvell and Mike Loxley on the what coach is going to be fired next.
- 24:50SPEAKER_03: But that hasn't been outdated because Mark Norvell just beat the brakes off our Oahu.
- 24:53SPEAKER_03: So he should be.
- 24:54SPEAKER_03: That maybe took it down a degree or two.
- 24:57SPEAKER_02: That was the week five.
- 24:58SPEAKER_02: Well, that means he's still up there.
- 25:00SPEAKER_03: Yeah, I mean he's still getting fired, but he at least had a nice weekend.
- 25:04SPEAKER_02: I don't like Minchie's throwing motion, but I'm sure I can get over that because I mean the man can connect on some passes.
- 25:10SPEAKER_02: But he sits there, he's got that short little twitchy thing, and I'm just, uh, blew my mind all day yesterday.
- 25:16SPEAKER_02: All right.
- 25:16SPEAKER_02: Let's stick with the Carolinas and go a little bit farther north where the Notre Dame Fighting Irish won their 16th consecutive game by double digits or more.
- 25:25SPEAKER_02: They took down North Carolina 37-26 on a sloppy-looking day on Saturday.
- 25:34SPEAKER_02: Notre Dame came in three touchdown favorites and were only victorious by 11.
- 25:40SPEAKER_02: We learn anything about Notre Dame or North Carolina on Saturday.
- 25:45SPEAKER_03: My opinion hasn't changed much on North Carolina.
- 25:48SPEAKER_03: They're obviously, I mean, sorry, excuse me.
- 25:49SPEAKER_03: Nord Notre Dame, they're very good.
- 25:51SPEAKER_03: They are going to the playoffs, they are going to challenge for the quarterfinals, semifinals at least.
- 25:56SPEAKER_03: I am still not impressed with any of their skill guys outside of Jordan, Jordan Faison.
- 26:01SPEAKER_03: And even him, I don't think he's that good.
- 26:03SPEAKER_03: They, I think you're, I don't think the market has priced in the loss of Jadarian Price and Jeremiah Love to the NFL.
- 26:09SPEAKER_03: I know they've got running backs, I know they've got guys, but I don't think they have anybody that's that dynamic.
- 26:14SPEAKER_03: I know they won by 11.
- 26:16SPEAKER_03: I know that North Carolina kind of got a garbage score to make it closer than it should have been.
- 26:20SPEAKER_03: You could argue Notre Dame should have covered.
- 26:22SPEAKER_03: I'm just if no, if I'm gonna take Notre Dame as a top, what are they, the three, they're number three, a top three team in the country.
- 26:30SPEAKER_03: I need to see something more dynamic out of their playmakers.
- 26:32SPEAKER_03: I don't see it yet, which that's been my that's been the beat for me on Notre Dame all season.
- 26:39SPEAKER_03: Um, on the other side, hey, Notre Dame, way to fight, way to stay in it.
- 26:42SPEAKER_03: Billy Edwards in the slop through three touchdowns.
- 26:45SPEAKER_03: Two Carolina, thank you.
- 26:47SPEAKER_03: Three touchdowns, two picks, kind of rock in a hard place, kind of Alabama, a little bit of Alabama, Mississippi State in this game.
- 26:52SPEAKER_03: North Carolina, North Carolina just doesn't have the dudes, so I don't learn much about them.
- 26:55SPEAKER_03: What do you got, Darren?
- 26:57SPEAKER_01: Bill Belichick is just such a character.
- 26:59SPEAKER_01: Last year it was the laughing stock and the whole girlfriend thing, and they just absolutely sucked.
- 27:05SPEAKER_01: But now he's getting out of a very mediocre roster and Billy Edwards much more than any coach should ever get.
- 27:13SPEAKER_01: And the way they hung in this game in the first half was really impressive.
- 27:18SPEAKER_01: And then you got Bill Belichick on the sidelines, and he's getting interviewed by the sideline reporter, and he's like, We gotta do better.
- 27:26SPEAKER_01: It's really cold out here.
- 27:27SPEAKER_01: Like, he's just classic Belichick.
- 27:30SPEAKER_01: He's an absolute cartoon character, and this was so hilarious.
- 27:33SPEAKER_01: He's just like a drowned rat.
- 27:35SPEAKER_01: His cut-off sleeveless hoodie is just soaking wet, his face, his face is all covered in wet hair, and he's trying to wipe the rain off his face as he's saying all this.
- 27:46SPEAKER_01: He's just such a character.
- 27:48SPEAKER_01: It's really entertaining.
- 27:49SPEAKER_01: I've never loved or hated Bill Belichick, but he's a college football character right now.
- 27:55SPEAKER_01: It's pretty funny and pretty impressive.
- 27:57SPEAKER_01: So kudos to Bill.
- 27:59SPEAKER_03: Look, I think UNC has improved.
- 28:01SPEAKER_03: The team has improved.
- 28:02SPEAKER_03: I mean, they're they are better than they were last.
- 28:03SPEAKER_03: They were four and eight last year.
- 28:05SPEAKER_03: I think I said three weeks ago they were might be a seven-win team.
- 28:08SPEAKER_03: I think that's I think I still think that.
- 28:10SPEAKER_03: I think they're my maybe eight.
- 28:11SPEAKER_03: I think six is their floor.
- 28:13SPEAKER_03: I think they're going to improve.
- 28:14SPEAKER_03: And honestly, if you're so if you're a UNC fan, four and eight, the Jordan thing, just everything, all the bad press, like UNC was just the laughing stock.
- 28:24SPEAKER_03: If year two, no off-the-field incidents that we know of, I don't have I don't have any reason to have to quit the Sun's deep deep into Partner rather than mysteriously resign.
- 28:35SPEAKER_03: I yeah, he had an illness or some some of the things.
- 28:38SPEAKER_02: I didn't go to Reddit to find out the details, but yeah, I don't either.
- 28:40SPEAKER_03: So I won't speculate, but just in general, compared to what it was last year, even if you include that, it wasn't nearly as bad.
- 28:45SPEAKER_03: My point, if you are seeing quote unquote off-the-field improvements, which just means no news is good news, and an improvement of two or three wins, see the tide is turning on Belichick.
- 28:55SPEAKER_03: Maybe he's not going to be fired this year.
- 28:56SPEAKER_03: He does that again next year, then you're talking about an eight or nine or ten win North Carolina Tar Heel.
- 29:01SPEAKER_03: So I'm I'm I think I'm starting to see, despite what happened yesterday in the slop, I'm starting to see things that if you're a UNC fan, maybe you can get your head around.
- 29:10SPEAKER_02: I mean, Belichick was always good at building, he always did a good job of designing the defense around players that he had when he was in New England.
- 29:18SPEAKER_02: I remember watching them early in the season, being like, this defense sucks.
- 29:22SPEAKER_02: But then as the season got on, they got better and better.
- 29:25SPEAKER_02: And you can see that a little bit with the tools that he has in North Carolina.
- 29:29SPEAKER_02: Although it's harder when you're playing with college kids than when you're paying, you're coaching like professional players in the NFL.
- 29:36SPEAKER_02: And I think that's a rude awakening for Belichick.
- 29:38SPEAKER_03: I think he's got a real spot to do something crazy if he if they go, because now that Pittsburgh lost Mason Heinchel, which we'll talk about here in a minute, the Virginia game.
- 29:45SPEAKER_03: Oh, yeah, they're playing at Pitt next week.
- 29:47SPEAKER_03: I don't see any reason why UNC couldn't go in there and knock off a Mason Heinchel-liss pit football team.
- 29:54SPEAKER_03: That backup is not that very good.
- 29:55SPEAKER_03: Maybe we should talk about that game next.
- 29:57SPEAKER_03: Go ahead.
- 29:57SPEAKER_03: Go ahead.
- 29:58SPEAKER_03: Go ahead.
- 29:58SPEAKER_02: Let's go then.
- 29:59SPEAKER_02: Let's go.
- 29:59SPEAKER_02: Virginia Tech and Pittsburgh took a battle against each other on Friday night.
- 30:03SPEAKER_02: Many points were scored.
- 30:05SPEAKER_02: The final score was 35-33.
- 30:07SPEAKER_02: I I still think that field goal was good that Virginia Tech took at the end.
- 30:11SPEAKER_02: I did not see an angle that truly showed me that he missed it.
- 30:14SPEAKER_02: Darren, what did you learn about your team that night?
- 30:18SPEAKER_01: Man, I learned I learned that I am with Coach Franklin in wanting to slap Narduzzi across his stupid face because after the game, um, Narduzzi's interview was like, We're not getting any respect.
- 30:34SPEAKER_01: Now we're gonna get ranked.
- 30:36SPEAKER_01: We better be ranked, and the nation better respect us.
- 30:39SPEAKER_01: You did nothing to earn respect in that game.
- 30:42SPEAKER_01: You guys got outgained.
- 30:44SPEAKER_01: Here's the 295 yards on offense to Tech's 499.
- 30:50SPEAKER_01: We gave up two ugly, stupid fumbles and one interception, and then another play that they called an interception that clearly was not an interception.
- 31:01SPEAKER_01: That was the simultaneous catch that they ended up giving for the defense.
- 31:06SPEAKER_01: Absolutely comical and stupid and awful.
- 31:10SPEAKER_01: And and then we put ourselves easily in the last drive of the game in position to kick a 36-yard field goal, and we lost the game on a made field goal.
- 31:22SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 31:23SPEAKER_01: And then Narduzzi says, Hey, respect the Panthers.
- 31:26SPEAKER_01: No, you earn zero respect, and uh I wish nothing but the worst for them.
- 31:31SPEAKER_02: For Mike said it last week.
- 31:32SPEAKER_02: I was looking at the coach's odd seat, and Narduzzi was round 15, and you talked about how polarizing he was, and it showed in that after interview where he was just, I was like, Oh, this is why not everybody loves this dude.
- 31:43SPEAKER_03: Mike the beat on yeah, the beat on Narduzzi's been that way for a while.
- 31:47SPEAKER_03: It's like most people don't like him.
- 31:48SPEAKER_03: As in terms of a guy you want to go to the bar and hang out with, like, he's a jerk, he rubs people wrong, pisses off people in the press.
- 31:54SPEAKER_03: Like, this has been his rap for a while.
- 31:56SPEAKER_03: I'm obviously not in the press.
- 31:57SPEAKER_03: I don't know this stuff, but you could see breadcrumbs of that in that post-game interview.
- 32:01SPEAKER_03: They had really had no business winning a game.
- 32:02SPEAKER_03: I'm gonna give some flowers out.
- 32:03SPEAKER_03: Ethan Gruckenmeyer, 434 yards passing.
- 32:06SPEAKER_03: During, I don't know who the last quarterback.
- 32:09SPEAKER_03: I'm gonna keep saying it.
- 32:10SPEAKER_03: Gruckenmeyer is a humongous upgrade at the QB1 spot.
- 32:13SPEAKER_03: I don't remember a 434-yard performance, at least not against somebody like VMI on for a hookie quarterback.
- 32:21SPEAKER_03: Really like that.
- 32:22SPEAKER_03: I also love what I saw at Aiden Green, four catches, 88 yards, one the 48-yard one.
- 32:26SPEAKER_03: He's got some wiggle and some speed.
- 32:28SPEAKER_03: That's the emergent of another weapon.
- 32:30SPEAKER_03: Quishon Brown, one of the team with seven catches, 147 yards.
- 32:34SPEAKER_03: You're starting to see Virginia Grunkenmeyer is finding his guys, and they are emerging.
- 32:39SPEAKER_03: I'm seeing a solid five deep Overton Hawkins, Brown, Reynolds, and Green of really good weapons.
- 32:46SPEAKER_03: I was didn't love, I thought the offensive line did okay.
- 32:49SPEAKER_03: I'm still a little worried about that.
- 32:51SPEAKER_03: I you could argue the D let you down, Derek.
- 32:53SPEAKER_03: I thought the D was a little bit better, but this was the first yeah.
- 32:56SPEAKER_01: They they scored a couple.
- 32:57SPEAKER_01: I mean, again, four turnovers, so they had such a short field.
- 33:00SPEAKER_01: They scored a couple, and one of the last touchdowns, it was an absolute blown assignment.
- 33:05SPEAKER_01: I don't know if Pry is calling some stuff at the last second or relying on the players to work out some sort of coverage, but they just blew it and let a guy in the end zone untouched.
- 33:16SPEAKER_01: The defense definitely let us down.
- 33:18SPEAKER_01: They scored way too easily.
- 33:22SPEAKER_03: I think that's really the only thing.
- 33:23SPEAKER_03: I think that was yeah, I think that was the biggest thing that caught me going.
- 33:25SPEAKER_03: I just thought I thought Tech's defense was better.
- 33:27SPEAKER_03: They could get better.
- 33:28SPEAKER_03: They can get better.
- 33:28SPEAKER_03: Kamari Copeland, Cortez Harris, they've got guys.
- 33:31SPEAKER_03: They just this was a rough night for that for the unit.
- 33:33SPEAKER_03: Sorry, Mark.
- 33:34SPEAKER_02: It was November 9th, 2002, and Brian Randall threw for 504 yards and five touchdowns in a losing effort against Syracuse.
- 33:42SPEAKER_02: The last time a Hokies quarterback put up that much.
- 33:45SPEAKER_02: They were ranked seventh that time.
- 33:47SPEAKER_02: Somebody put up more yards than Grunkenmeyer.
- 33:49SPEAKER_02: I liked what I saw to Gruckenmeyer.
- 33:51SPEAKER_02: I was, I, I mean, I wasn't totally impressed with him like in the games like like in Boston, the Boston College game.
- 33:58SPEAKER_02: But the dude, man, he's got a good arm.
- 34:00SPEAKER_02: He just gets a little excited and he makes some throws that he shouldn't throw.
- 34:04SPEAKER_02: But you think if he can learn not to make those throws next year, like dang, they they got a chance to go somewhere.
- 34:10SPEAKER_02: And then Poor Pitt, Mason Heichel.
- 34:13SPEAKER_02: Heinzel?
- 34:13SPEAKER_02: Heinzel.
- 34:14SPEAKER_02: We were talking about that.
- 34:15SPEAKER_02: Heinzel.
- 34:15SPEAKER_02: Uh he tore his ACL on that play.
- 34:17SPEAKER_02: Nasty play.
- 34:18SPEAKER_02: They could talk about him screaming in the blue tent and pain.
- 34:21SPEAKER_02: I just felt the dude.
- 34:22SPEAKER_02: Holding our gr came in.
- 34:25SPEAKER_02: Or are we gonna say Mike?
- 34:26SPEAKER_03: I just we saw it happen.
- 34:27SPEAKER_03: When we have you are watching together, like that looked bad.
- 34:30SPEAKER_03: Like we knew right away on TV, you're like, that one might be in trouble.
- 34:33SPEAKER_03: That could be that could be a real sorry.
- 34:36SPEAKER_02: Yeah, the way the helmet of the Virginia Tech player, or the helmet, or like with the his body hit that knee, and you just knew, oh gosh.
- 34:43SPEAKER_02: Yep.
- 34:44SPEAKER_02: There was a we've got a great team.
- 34:48SPEAKER_02: Go ahead.
- 34:49SPEAKER_02: Talking about a great team.
- 34:50SPEAKER_01: Yeah, we've got a great team, and I'm starting to my mind is unfortunately going back to last year.
- 34:56SPEAKER_01: What happened, Coach Franklin, that you let your team get beat by UCLA and then Northwestern?
- 35:03SPEAKER_01: I feel like he's is he the type of coach that's going to fix this problem absolutely in practice and get I feel like he's the type of coach who will scream and yell until his face is red by saying, I love you guys and I'm so proud of you guys.
- 35:20SPEAKER_01: When he really should be saying, absolutely not.
- 35:23SPEAKER_01: This is unacceptable.
- 35:24SPEAKER_01: I don't know if he has that mean coach in him.
- 35:26SPEAKER_01: He definitely has the love coach in him, and that scares me a little bit.
- 35:32SPEAKER_03: I think you're reading it wrong.
- 35:33SPEAKER_03: I think it's I think that should be a good thing.
- 35:34SPEAKER_03: His his players love him.
- 35:36SPEAKER_03: He actually, I was actually gonna say that.
- 35:37SPEAKER_03: He went up to the kicker, he chased him down.
- 35:39SPEAKER_03: He said, I think I really looked, I think he said, I love you.
- 35:42SPEAKER_03: I think of you to the kicker after he missed.
- 35:44SPEAKER_03: He is not the bull with the whistle guy.
- 35:46SPEAKER_03: He I think he gets what he gets a layer of buy-in that I actually I'm fully subscribed.
- 35:52SPEAKER_03: I think they're more than one way is to skin a cat.
- 35:54SPEAKER_03: I think there are multiple ways to coach and run a college ball program.
- 35:57SPEAKER_03: I think his way is to have his players love him and build that cultural family thing.
- 36:02SPEAKER_03: And I think he's going to do that well at hokies.
- 36:04SPEAKER_03: I think people, I don't think it's an I'll put it this way.
- 36:06SPEAKER_03: I don't think it's a coincidence that so many people went with him from Happy Valley to Blacksburg.
- 36:11SPEAKER_03: They love the man.
- 36:12SPEAKER_03: I think that's I think it's a good reason they went there.
- 36:14SPEAKER_01: And whatever he does, they they better be scared to death 24-7 to ever drop a football ever again.
- 36:22SPEAKER_01: Darren Darren wants him to be mad.
- 36:23SPEAKER_03: Darren wants him to be the wants to I want it fixed now.
- 36:27SPEAKER_03: Darren wants him to Darren wants him to do up downs until 6 a.m.
- 36:31SPEAKER_01: That's right.
- 36:31SPEAKER_01: That's right.
- 36:32SPEAKER_01: Thank you.
- 36:32SPEAKER_03: Yeah, they and they shut down Overton.
- 36:34SPEAKER_02: Overton only had 37 yards on the game, and he was at least averaging triple digits going into today's game.
- 36:40SPEAKER_02: All right.
- 36:40SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 36:42SPEAKER_02: Let's move over to UVA.
- 36:44SPEAKER_02: And they went down to Florida State.
- 36:46SPEAKER_02: That was a great game last year, but this was not a great game at all, guys.
- 36:50SPEAKER_02: Florida State won 38 to 7.
- 36:55SPEAKER_02: Mike, I know you learned something about that offensive line from UVA.
- 36:58SPEAKER_02: Tell us about it.
- 36:59SPEAKER_03: I'm just disappointed.
- 37:00SPEAKER_03: I really thought that was going to be a kind of a fun thing that UVA is going to have this year.
- 37:04SPEAKER_03: It was a big, hulking, old experience, large offensive line that's going to push people around.
- 37:09SPEAKER_03: And my God, did they get whooped by Florida State?
- 37:12SPEAKER_03: File score were 38 to 7.
- 37:14SPEAKER_03: Bo Perbula again threatened to failed to throw the ball down the field very well.
- 37:20SPEAKER_03: They got no push on the offensive line.
- 37:23SPEAKER_03: This is not what I thought we were getting when we win UVA.
- 37:26SPEAKER_03: I mean, 168 yards, 37, 40 carries for 37 yards rushing on Florida State.
- 37:33SPEAKER_03: This version of Florida State held UVA with their all seventh year offensive lines to 37 yards rushing.
- 37:40SPEAKER_03: Just a major disappointment.
- 37:43SPEAKER_03: I was so high coming off the NC State game, and I'm just so disappointed in what we're seeing now.
- 37:48SPEAKER_03: They gave up 10 sacks.
- 37:49SPEAKER_03: Did I read that somewhere as well?
- 37:51SPEAKER_03: Is that many sacks?
- 37:52SPEAKER_03: 10 sacks.
- 37:53SPEAKER_03: 10 sacks and 437 yards rushing on 40 attempts.
- 37:57SPEAKER_03: That's a lot.
- 37:58SPEAKER_03: I mean, yeah.
- 37:59SPEAKER_03: Bopper Buell wasn't even 50% accuracy.
- 38:03SPEAKER_03: Really demoralizing performance.
- 38:04SPEAKER_03: I haven't on the other side, Floor State, congrats on the win.
- 38:07SPEAKER_03: One by 30 at home.
- 38:08SPEAKER_03: It's always good.
- 38:09SPEAKER_03: Your coach on the hot seat, maybe temperature went down a couple degrees.
- 38:11SPEAKER_03: That's all well and good.
- 38:12SPEAKER_03: I'm not any higher on Ashton Daniels.
- 38:14SPEAKER_03: I don't think they can beat very many people.
- 38:16SPEAKER_03: I get they ran for 280 yards over UVA.
- 38:19SPEAKER_03: I mean, well done.
- 38:20SPEAKER_03: Do what you're supposed to do.
- 38:21SPEAKER_03: But I don't think they're any better than we they were last week.
- 38:26SPEAKER_02: Ashton Daniels did to UVA what UVA did to NC State in week zero.
- 38:32unknown: Think about that.
- 38:33SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 38:34SPEAKER_01: I was going to say that he did what what our NC State quarterback.
- 38:38SPEAKER_01: Gosh, I've forgotten his name now.
- 38:39SPEAKER_01: CJ Bailey.
- 38:40SPEAKER_01: CJ Bailey should have done.
- 38:42SPEAKER_01: And they should have come down and run CJ Bailey for 17 carries for 136 and five scores.
- 38:49SPEAKER_01: That's how NC State should have played UVA in week one.
- 38:54SPEAKER_01: But now Ashton Daniels, with the benefit and the luxury of five weeks to look at it and think about it, that's how Florida State has decided to beat UVA, is to just run all over them.
- 39:04SPEAKER_01: 19 passes, half as many, 46 rushes for 281.
- 39:09SPEAKER_01: My gosh.
- 39:10SPEAKER_01: So quarterback the quarterback rush is always the great equalizer, especially in the middle tier of the ACC.
- 39:17SPEAKER_01: If you got a quarterback that can run, you got some magic.
- 39:20SPEAKER_03: I'm going to say something.
- 39:21SPEAKER_03: I don't want to say it, but I'm going to get I'm going to because I feel like I have to.
- 39:25SPEAKER_03: UVA's best win, Delaware, is NC State.
- 39:30SPEAKER_03: I mean, their three wins are I mean, they might UVA might be bad.
- 39:34SPEAKER_03: They might be bad.
- 39:35SPEAKER_03: They're hosting Syracuse next week.
- 39:37SPEAKER_03: Syracuse is not very good.
- 39:39SPEAKER_03: Syracuse is 2-2 as well, 0-2 and ACC.
- 39:41SPEAKER_03: If they lose at home to Syracuse, and I think they are favored, at least as of right now, that is alarm fire for Tony Elliott.
- 39:49SPEAKER_03: This was not supposed to be.
- 40:38SPEAKER_02: Tennessee with a big win and one of our parlays that hit early.
- 40:42SPEAKER_02: Guys, what did we learn?
- 40:45SPEAKER_03: Tennessee has to figure some has to figure out what they're doing on offense.
- 40:48SPEAKER_03: FaZon Brandon, the the freshman, the true freshman who went in, who had the obviously the 10-sack game against Texas, looked really good against all the patsies on their schedule early.
- 40:56SPEAKER_03: Furman and Georgia Tech and whoever else they beat the bejesus out of.
- 41:00SPEAKER_03: He went, they benched him.
- 41:01SPEAKER_03: He went three for eight for zero yards and one reception.
- 41:05SPEAKER_03: Three receptions netted zero yards.
- 41:08SPEAKER_03: He got benched for George McIntyre.
- 41:10SPEAKER_03: Luckily, they've got Deshaun Bishop back there, absolute beast.
- 41:14SPEAKER_03: 34 carries, 220, 20 yards, six and a half yards carry, three touchdowns, and a really smothering defense that didn't let uh Auburn do much.
- 41:22SPEAKER_03: We were on to that last week during the Texas game.
- 41:24SPEAKER_03: Everyone was talking about Texas and Colin Simmons, but Tennessee's defense is really good.
- 41:30SPEAKER_03: What happened this what I learned this week?
- 41:32SPEAKER_03: Tennessee's defense continues to impress, Tennessee's offense continues to depress.
- 41:37SPEAKER_03: That's where I am.
- 41:38SPEAKER_03: They don't have anything on offense that I their offensive line nor quarterback get me excited.
- 41:43SPEAKER_03: I'm concerned about them and their ability to move the ball down the field.
- 41:50SPEAKER_01: He completes very short little passes and runs the ball for eight yards.
- 41:56SPEAKER_01: When they can only win a game by chip chipping away very small, and so Auburn is pedestrian.
- 42:05SPEAKER_01: Is he the future?
- 42:06SPEAKER_01: Is he starting next week?
- 42:08SPEAKER_03: He was the guy that they I mean they went to training camp and there was a apparently, or we have some Vol friends in this podcast.
- 42:15SPEAKER_03: The word was that Faison and George were head-to-head all the way through camp, and Faison edged him out.
- 42:20SPEAKER_03: I was thinking they're reevaluating that.
- 42:22SPEAKER_03: He obviously did better, had eight threw the ball 10 times, eight completions, 86 yards, no touchdowns, no picks.
- 42:29SPEAKER_03: That's not good, but luckily against a team like Auburn, who just does not have an SEC caliber offense at this point.
- 42:34SPEAKER_03: They do on defense, just not on offense.
- 42:36SPEAKER_03: That was fine.
- 42:37SPEAKER_03: But with 10 with what Tennessee's got coming, they've got a doozy coming here like real soon.
- 42:43SPEAKER_03: Uh at our time.
- 42:44SPEAKER_03: Until next week.
- 42:45SPEAKER_01: So that's a good time to put McIntyre.
- 42:47SPEAKER_01: That's a good time.
- 42:47SPEAKER_03: Get McIntyre.
- 42:48SPEAKER_03: And then it's the Alabama game.
- 42:50SPEAKER_03: Then it's the third Saturday in October.
- 42:51SPEAKER_03: Cigar game.
- 42:53SPEAKER_03: So who that team's going to score points.
- 42:56SPEAKER_03: Tennessee has to be able to move the ball a lot.
- 42:58SPEAKER_03: So yeah, I don't know.
- 43:00SPEAKER_03: They're they shouldn't have these kind of offensive questions five weeks in the season, but here we are.
- 43:05SPEAKER_01: Harkens back to my one of my pre-season, um, preseason hot takes, which we should revisit very soon.
- 43:12SPEAKER_01: Was that we'll have a couple playoff teams that have a quarterback that's not their week one starter quarterback.
- 43:19SPEAKER_01: So this might be one right here.
- 43:21SPEAKER_01: Tennessee's balls might switch to McIntyre and just roll, start rolling because Bishop and the defense are freaking good.
- 43:28SPEAKER_01: This is a good team outside of their quarterback situation.
- 43:31unknown: Yep.
- 43:32SPEAKER_02: All right, let's take it out to Middle America where the Ohio State Buckeyes rolled into Iowa in a game where I, as an Iowa fan this year, I had some hopes, but I also had a realistic vision that Jeremiah Smith is coming to town.
- 43:45SPEAKER_02: And Ohio State put up 31 to 14 victory at Kinneck Stadium.
- 43:50SPEAKER_02: I know, that's what I expected.
- 43:52SPEAKER_02: Hank Brown got hurt.
- 43:53SPEAKER_02: He's got a mild shoulder, collarbone issue.
- 43:56SPEAKER_02: I don't really have a timetable for his return, but he left in the third quarter.
- 43:59SPEAKER_02: And at that point, he was like, all right, Iowa wasn't moving the ball.
- 44:02SPEAKER_02: And God, would Jeremiah Smith catch the ball?
- 44:04SPEAKER_02: It is a man among boys.
- 44:06SPEAKER_02: Did we learn anything in this game, guys?
- 44:09SPEAKER_03: I don't think I did.
- 44:10SPEAKER_03: This game was a lot like the Notre Dame, North Carolina, or the Miami, this rock in a hard place.
- 44:16SPEAKER_03: Or I actually the better analogy would actually, I think, would be the Mississippi State Alabama game.
- 44:20SPEAKER_03: North Car Iowa's a good team.
- 44:23SPEAKER_03: They're just not Ohio State good.
- 44:24SPEAKER_03: And they don't have the talent, and they don't have the depth, and they don't have the speed.
- 44:28SPEAKER_03: They obviously don't have an answer to defend Jeremiah Smith.
- 44:32SPEAKER_03: Don't worry about that.
- 44:33SPEAKER_03: Nobody does.
- 44:33SPEAKER_03: You'll never see him again.
- 44:34SPEAKER_03: So it's probably okay.
- 44:35SPEAKER_03: And rock and hard plays.
- 44:37SPEAKER_03: And Iowa did things in this game.
- 44:39SPEAKER_03: They never do.
- 44:40SPEAKER_03: They turned the ball over, gave him a short field on the first drive.
- 44:42SPEAKER_03: Fubble was a quarterback football.
- 44:44SPEAKER_03: The front day you I will can't afford to do that.
- 44:46SPEAKER_03: And obviously they did.
- 44:48SPEAKER_03: I didn't learn much because I think you said it correctly.
- 44:51SPEAKER_03: I think we saw exactly what we thought saw.
- 44:53SPEAKER_03: Darren said 14 points.
- 44:55SPEAKER_03: Darren, didn't you say they were going to score 14 points?
- 44:57SPEAKER_01: We will score 14 points.
- 44:59SPEAKER_01: Exactly.
- 45:00SPEAKER_03: You said that.
- 45:00SPEAKER_03: God clip that and put that on YouTube.
- 45:02SPEAKER_03: I think you said it exactly.
- 45:04SPEAKER_03: Um no, I believe I mean I didn't learn anything because I actually think all three of us knew exactly what was going to happen in this game and we correctly predicted it.
- 45:12SPEAKER_03: Darren, I'm sorry to steal your thunder.
- 45:14SPEAKER_03: Go ahead.
- 45:15SPEAKER_01: No, that's it.
- 45:15SPEAKER_01: Ohio, I learned that Ohio State is one of I've got four teams right now that I think look like national championship teams.
- 45:24SPEAKER_01: And they're they are one of them.
- 45:27SPEAKER_01: Do you want to hear the four?
- 45:28SPEAKER_01: Yeah, no, I totally hear all four.
- 45:30SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 45:32SPEAKER_01: Yeah, looking at the odds to win the Natty, you've got at the top, you've got Georgia and Ohio State, and I agree.
- 45:38SPEAKER_01: They're the odds on favorite.
- 45:39SPEAKER_01: Ohio State 430, Georgia 500.
- 45:44SPEAKER_02: I was gonna say, before you go to the next one, has Georgia really been like tested this year yet?
- 45:48SPEAKER_03: That's next week, Alabama.
- 45:50SPEAKER_03: Not yet.
- 45:50SPEAKER_02: Oh, is it?
- 45:51SPEAKER_02: Okay, all right, it's about time.
- 45:52SPEAKER_02: It's about time.
- 45:52SPEAKER_02: All right.
- 45:53SPEAKER_02: You said Ohio State and Georgia.
- 45:55SPEAKER_02: Number three.
- 45:56SPEAKER_01: Then, and I'm talking about teams that can win out the playoffs, like really good teams.
- 46:00SPEAKER_01: So then you get to Notre Dame and Texas, who are around 620, 660 odds.
- 46:06SPEAKER_01: And I don't, I'm not gonna put them in my top four, actually.
- 46:09SPEAKER_01: I think they have flaws.
- 46:10SPEAKER_01: They've got chinks in the armor, and so we move on.
- 46:13SPEAKER_01: Miami, Indiana, I'm moving on.
- 46:15SPEAKER_01: They actually don't have what it takes.
- 46:17SPEAKER_01: The other two teams I think that are built Alabama and Oregon.
- 46:24SPEAKER_01: I don't know.
- 46:25SPEAKER_01: Is it crazy?
- 46:26SPEAKER_01: So I'm leaving out LSU, honestly.
- 46:28SPEAKER_01: I'm leaving out Indiana and Miami.
- 46:30SPEAKER_01: I'm leaving out Old Miss.
- 46:31SPEAKER_01: I think these teams are beatable in certain aspects of their game, but I think Alabama, Oregon, Ohio State, Georgia have got it top to bottom all three phases.
- 46:42SPEAKER_03: I think about what I think if you're basing on what we've seen thus far this season, I don't hate those takes.
- 46:46SPEAKER_03: I would include Miami.
- 46:47SPEAKER_03: They've looked mostly flawless.
- 46:49SPEAKER_03: And we know with Darien Mensah, Cooper Barcade, like they're gonna have something for every team on their schedule and be able to play little ho-home against Clemson.
- 46:57SPEAKER_03: So I would include Miami as well, but it is it pains my heart.
- 47:00SPEAKER_03: It's like you said when you were playing Virginia, you're like Virginia Tech was playing Pittsburgh.
- 47:04SPEAKER_03: You're always like, I always want them to be bad, but they're not.
- 47:07SPEAKER_03: They're just like always like good.
- 47:08SPEAKER_03: That's how Alabama is for me.
- 47:10SPEAKER_03: As an LSU fan, I'm like, I always want I want Alabama to be bad, but they're not.
- 47:14SPEAKER_03: They're very good.
- 47:15SPEAKER_03: So I don't based on what we've seen this far, we're not.
- 47:18SPEAKER_03: But give my tigers a month, they might work their way into your list.
- 47:20SPEAKER_03: We got time.
- 47:21SPEAKER_02: Well, let's talk about your tigers.
- 47:22SPEAKER_02: McMe State came to town, and you had your in-season exhibition to go on against everyone named McBee State.
- 47:30SPEAKER_02: LSU won 63 to 14.
- 47:32SPEAKER_02: And did you think it should have been a bigger win?
- 47:36SPEAKER_03: I'm gonna be pretty quick on this one.
- 47:38SPEAKER_03: 700 plus yards of offense, second best offensive performance in LSU history.
- 47:42SPEAKER_03: Wahoo.
- 47:43SPEAKER_03: The only 14 points we gave up to are all our third stringers.
- 47:46SPEAKER_03: We did Harlan Barry stepped up, took the uh second team running back snaps, which is obviously good to see.
- 47:51SPEAKER_03: We had some guys really uh emerge.
- 47:53SPEAKER_03: Roman mothershed had a nice day.
- 47:55SPEAKER_03: It was a lot of depth.
- 47:56SPEAKER_03: All the LSU siccos love this game because we had to see all the guys in the roster that we haven't seen get time yet.
- 48:02SPEAKER_03: The big thing, no injuries.
- 48:04SPEAKER_03: LSU hasn't had a catastrophic injury in a football game yet before yesterday.
- 48:09SPEAKER_02: Well weeks, weeks that was two that was two weeks later.
- 48:12SPEAKER_02: Oh, I thought you said they haven't had one all season.
- 48:14SPEAKER_02: You were just talking about that game.
- 48:15SPEAKER_03: No, no, yeah.
- 48:16SPEAKER_03: We lost.
- 48:16SPEAKER_03: Oh, we lost Deshaun Spears, we've lost Philip Wright, we've lost Charles Ross, we lost Tradez Green for at least five or six weeks.
- 48:23SPEAKER_03: No, we've had plenty of injuries.
- 48:24SPEAKER_03: This was the first time we haven't had a meaningful injury in a football game.
- 48:29SPEAKER_03: So that my point is that is honestly the biggest takeaway for LSU fans is everyone stayed healthy.
- 48:35SPEAKER_03: We beat the brakes off them, and we're leading the SEC in total offense and total defense.
- 48:41SPEAKER_03: We do that for the next month against these next three SEC opponents.
- 48:44SPEAKER_03: We're gonna work our way back on the Darren Sevens list.
- 48:46SPEAKER_03: I'll tell you what.
- 48:47SPEAKER_02: Yes, I love is it Deuce Gordon, the defensive tackle, the freshman defensive.
- 48:51SPEAKER_02: Deuce Gerald's Gerald.
- 48:52SPEAKER_02: I'm never gonna ruin that name, dude.
- 48:54SPEAKER_02: I love that guy.
- 48:55SPEAKER_02: He is so good.
- 48:56SPEAKER_03: Darren five sacks on the five sacks on the year.
- 48:58SPEAKER_03: He's going to break uh Dorsey's Glenn Dorsey, who's a L Fall of Famers, uh maybe Booger McFarland and Booger McFarland's defeat record of defensive tackle and Prince Yumenier on defensive end is leading the nation as in sacks with eight and a half, I believe, so far.
- 49:12SPEAKER_03: So our pass rush is absolutely filthy.
- 49:15SPEAKER_03: So we're gonna need it because the rest of the way, the next what is it, seven games, all SEC opponents.
- 49:20SPEAKER_03: So no more Lattex and McNeese on a schedule from here on out.
- 49:25SPEAKER_01: I think it's just funny, Mike, that McNeese State is the team that you have off-handedly all year long said as when we played Mini McNeese State, I'll go out to the pumpkin patch that day with the family.
- 49:36SPEAKER_01: And finally, McNeese shows up and you do the right thing.
- 49:40SPEAKER_01: I want to say there's a there was one play where a McNeese running back named Jamal Levi ran for 64 yards.
- 49:49SPEAKER_01: Imagine being in Tiger Stadium playing for the JV team called McNeese State and just running with the wind in your hair against LSU and just running nonstop for a touchdown the length of the field.
- 50:06SPEAKER_01: Jamal Levi is just on daisies this week.
- 50:09SPEAKER_01: He's just absolutely living the dream.
- 50:11SPEAKER_01: So good on you, Jamal.
- 50:12SPEAKER_01: It was his only rush, too.
- 50:14SPEAKER_03: His rushing stat is one rush for 64 yards and a touchdown.
- 50:19SPEAKER_03: He also had two catches for 46 yards and a touchdown.
- 50:21SPEAKER_03: He scored both touchdowns.
- 50:22SPEAKER_03: If I'm Jordan Jamal Levi, I'm telling that story in every bar in Louisiana I go to for the rest of my life.
- 50:29SPEAKER_03: I was in death valley.
- 50:30SPEAKER_03: Out exception.
- 50:31SPEAKER_03: I was in Death Valley, I scored two touchdowns, one carry, 64-yard average.
- 50:37SPEAKER_03: There's not a single person in that bar that's not hearing that story from me for the rest of my life.
- 50:42SPEAKER_02: Dude, touchdowns.
- 50:44SPEAKER_02: I love it.
- 50:45SPEAKER_02: Let's go.
- 50:45SPEAKER_02: One other top 10 team that played was BYU went on the road to Texas Christian.
- 50:50SPEAKER_02: And in a game where we expect the over under was 51 and a half, the total amount of points was 27.
- 50:55SPEAKER_02: BYU only won 17 to 10 over TCU.
- 51:00SPEAKER_02: Any notes on this one?
- 51:02SPEAKER_03: This has not been a fun season for the Horn Frogs.
- 51:05SPEAKER_03: It's just gross.
- 51:06SPEAKER_03: They really, I mean, we all had high hopes for Sonny Dykes and Craig.
- 51:09SPEAKER_03: It has not worked out.
- 51:10SPEAKER_03: I think LJ Martin got hurt in this game.
- 51:12SPEAKER_03: Did I see that?
- 51:12SPEAKER_03: But maybe he bounced back.
- 51:15SPEAKER_03: There's something to be said for Wise BYU only scoring 17 points on a pretty mediocre, if not bad, TCU team.
- 51:21SPEAKER_03: I'm paying attention to that space.
- 51:22SPEAKER_03: I don't know that I'm a little worried about BYU's the 10 next to name being a little fraudulent, but the bigger thing for me is just for me today is that TCU was a team that someone was excited about this year and they should not be.
- 51:36SPEAKER_01: I wish I had thought of this.
- 51:38SPEAKER_01: I wish I had thought of it, but I heard somebody on the radio say BYU is the Iowa Hawkeyes of the Big 12.
- 51:45SPEAKER_01: And so they're they look like they were up four points the whole game and totally comfortable.
- 51:51SPEAKER_01: Like nothing could go wrong as long as we're up by a couple points.
- 51:56SPEAKER_01: So if that's how they're going to win one, great.
- 51:59SPEAKER_03: I mean, they got out, I mean, they got outgained in this game.
- 52:02SPEAKER_03: TCU had 260 yards of offense, which is a very low total.
- 52:06SPEAKER_03: BYU only had 2 and 16.
- 52:12SPEAKER_03: What is BYU doing only getting 216 yards of offense against Texas Christian University?
- 52:18SPEAKER_01: Yeah, every every camera was soaking wet from every angle.
- 52:22SPEAKER_01: It was like fog and rain the whole time.
- 52:25SPEAKER_01: Just one of those weird games.
- 52:27SPEAKER_03: I hope so, because otherwise, I'm on looking at you sideways, BYU.
- 52:31SPEAKER_03: My Oklahoma State Cowboys are gonna knock you off.
- 52:33SPEAKER_03: I'm looking at you sideways, BYU.
- 52:35SPEAKER_02: Let's take a look at a couple of middle up the pack Big Ten teams.
- 52:38SPEAKER_02: We went in and thought Nebraska was gonna dominate Maryland.
- 52:41SPEAKER_02: We took them at what 14 and a half, and then Maryland came out early and took a big lead.
- 52:46SPEAKER_02: But Matt Rule and the Nebraska team were able to come back from the ended up with 48-23.
- 52:51SPEAKER_02: Did we learn anything about Nebraska?
- 52:53SPEAKER_02: Are they almost ready for prime time?
- 52:56SPEAKER_03: I don't think so because they were always gonna beat the brakes off of Maryland.
- 52:59SPEAKER_03: Maryland's a sinking ship.
- 53:00SPEAKER_03: Mike Sloxy can be fired any time, any moment now.
- 53:02SPEAKER_03: I think one of y'all picked that.
- 53:03SPEAKER_03: I think it was a good pick.
- 53:04SPEAKER_03: Nebraska's undefeated.
- 53:05SPEAKER_03: That's fun.
- 53:06SPEAKER_03: That's exciting.
- 53:06SPEAKER_03: But I don't have I don't know what word this means.
- 53:09SPEAKER_03: Beating up on Maryland, I don't give, I don't give much credit, but they're 4-0 or 5-0, whatever it is.
- 53:13SPEAKER_03: So let the good times roll.
- 53:15SPEAKER_01: That's it.
- 53:16SPEAKER_01: That's it.
- 53:17SPEAKER_01: Moving on.
- 53:18SPEAKER_01: Go Calandria.
- 53:19SPEAKER_02: Other than having his kids and getting married, PJ Fleck had the greatest day of his life when Minnesota beat Michigan for the first time in Minnesota since 1977 with a 20 to 14 victory.
- 53:34SPEAKER_02: Man, Minnesota must have been that was rocking Saturday.
- 53:37SPEAKER_02: Guys, you learned anything about this one.
- 53:38SPEAKER_02: What's up with Bryce Underwood?
- 53:40SPEAKER_03: I'm gonna try not to be repetitive here.
- 53:42SPEAKER_03: I think Michigan, it's two things.
- 53:44SPEAKER_03: It is a it is a tragedy, they're wasting such a talented defense.
- 53:48SPEAKER_03: Michigan's defense is awesome, and they are standing on their head every week and they're getting no help.
- 53:53SPEAKER_03: Number two, they need new off-to-coordinator quarterback.
- 53:56SPEAKER_03: It'll get fixed in 2027.
- 53:58SPEAKER_03: It's broken, it's bad.
- 53:59SPEAKER_03: Underwood stinks, Jason Beck stinks, the whole thing stinks, it's not working.
- 54:04SPEAKER_03: They need a whole new thing, and it's not gonna get fixed until next year.
- 54:07SPEAKER_03: I've already talked about it a million times, my thoughts on Michigan.
- 54:09SPEAKER_03: Until something crazy changes, I got nothing.
- 54:13SPEAKER_02: What if a Michigan touchdown is actually a defensive touchdown, right?
- 54:17SPEAKER_03: An immaculate pick six, an incredible pick six.
- 54:20SPEAKER_03: That defense balling.
- 54:22SPEAKER_03: Half their points.
- 54:22SPEAKER_02: And you're gonna talk about the little brown jug.
- 54:25SPEAKER_01: It's the most regularly exchanged rivalry trophy in college football history.
- 54:30SPEAKER_01: And so that's gotta that's gotta make the gophers a little extra proud.
- 54:36SPEAKER_01: Michigan is actually a decent team, and they beat them.
- 54:38SPEAKER_01: They got the little brown jug.
- 54:40SPEAKER_01: It's a it's like a it's like an old ceramic gallon jug with a small little thumb loop at the top.
- 54:47SPEAKER_01: That's the type of thing.
- 54:48SPEAKER_01: That's the yeah, that's the number one trophy.
- 54:51SPEAKER_01: I'd rather have that as a big glass prism or something.
- 54:53SPEAKER_01: Give me a little brown jug.
- 54:55SPEAKER_02: Three X's on the front, and some got blows on the top of it, played music on the front porch with a banjo.
- 55:01SPEAKER_01: Spot on.
- 55:02unknown: Exactly.
- 55:03SPEAKER_02: All right, let's move over to the northern suburbs of Chicago with a beautiful stadium opened on Friday night when Penn State went to Northwestern and Northwestern smacked Penn State in the mouth and beat them 34 to 14 in brand new Ryan Field.
- 55:22SPEAKER_02: Guys, what did you think of that new stadium?
- 55:24SPEAKER_03: Beautiful.
- 55:25SPEAKER_03: It was awesome on TV.
- 55:26SPEAKER_03: Love the Thunderstruck entrance, love the flames.
- 55:29SPEAKER_03: We don't see new football stadiums open often.
- 55:31SPEAKER_03: Every college football stadium, at least all the big ones, cathedrals, have been sent, have been around for a hundred years.
- 55:36SPEAKER_03: They just keep improving them.
- 55:38SPEAKER_03: So this was the first time we actually got a new college football stadium in a long time.
- 55:42SPEAKER_03: So the stadium was awesome.
- 55:45SPEAKER_02: The team, how do you think what about Chip Kelly out there?
- 55:48SPEAKER_03: So I got two.
- 55:49SPEAKER_03: I got two takes.
- 55:49SPEAKER_03: Yeah, I got two takes.
- 55:50SPEAKER_03: I got one for each of them.
- 55:51SPEAKER_03: Kudos to Chip Kelly.
- 55:52SPEAKER_03: I'll start with the good stuff.
- 55:54SPEAKER_03: Kudos to Chip Kelly, Aiden Childs.
- 55:56SPEAKER_03: They were running a modified wing T out there.
- 56:00SPEAKER_03: They Aiden Childs only threw for 93 yards.
- 56:02SPEAKER_03: They rushed for 413 yards.
- 56:06SPEAKER_03: Chip Kelly was absolutely cooking things up.
- 56:09SPEAKER_03: He was in the lab scheming up all kinds of things, and Penn State had absolutely no answer.
- 56:13SPEAKER_03: So Northwestern's kind of good.
- 56:15SPEAKER_03: Serviceable, pretty good defense.
- 56:17SPEAKER_03: And Chip Kelly and Aiden Childs doing things that are hard to defend.
- 56:21SPEAKER_03: They check a lot of boxes for me in 2026 for college football as the resources and a dynamic play caller on one side of the ball.
- 56:27SPEAKER_03: And they have that.
- 56:27SPEAKER_03: So I'm gonna give Northwestern.
- 56:29SPEAKER_03: Northwestern is pretty good.
- 56:30SPEAKER_03: We'll see how far this goes, but they are certainly getting more attention.
- 56:34SPEAKER_03: They should be getting more attention than anybody thought they should have gotten maybe in August.
- 56:38SPEAKER_03: On the other side, I've talked about this all last week, so I'm not gonna try, I'm not gonna be repetitive about this as well.
- 56:43SPEAKER_03: Penn State is just Iowa State and Penn State uniforms.
- 56:46SPEAKER_03: This is a team that doesn't have a lot of talent, doesn't have a lot of size, a lot of strength, a lot of speed.
- 56:52SPEAKER_03: Look, Penn State is a squad that should be every season top five, top six at worst in the Big Ten in terms of resources, talent, experience, depth.
- 57:03SPEAKER_03: And that's what they've had for a long time under Franklin, under Paterno, under O'Brien, under all these coaches.
- 57:09SPEAKER_03: They have always had three or four or five NFL guys, 30 or 44 stars, quality senior experience, depth, three stars, like all the roster.
- 57:20SPEAKER_03: And they don't have any of that this right now.
- 57:23SPEAKER_03: I don't, it's gonna take a while for Campbell to get there, but all I'm seeing right now is a Big 12 team trying to be the top echelon, trying to represent themselves as a top echelon, Big Ten school, and it's not there.
- 57:56SPEAKER_01: And it was really freaking awesome.
- 57:58SPEAKER_01: And it might it might be one of those destinations just north of Chicago.
- 58:03SPEAKER_01: Is that right?
- 58:05SPEAKER_02: Yeah, no, I'd say it's I would say Elmer's buttons wrong.
- 58:08SPEAKER_02: It's the other one up north.
- 58:09SPEAKER_02: I mean, I grew up there, I think I should know this.
- 58:11SPEAKER_02: But you see the locker room disparity, like how nice the northwestern locker room is, and then like my high school locker room is what they have for the visiting teams.
- 58:20SPEAKER_02: It was great.
- 58:21SPEAKER_02: My son even sent me a video on that one.
- 58:23SPEAKER_02: And as soon as I can think of the name of the city, because it's right in the tip of my tongue, I'll say it.
- 58:27SPEAKER_02: But all right, Evanstead.
- 58:29SPEAKER_01: So, like, yeah, field on the field trip within the next three years.
- 58:34SPEAKER_01: Let's go, let's go.
- 58:35SPEAKER_03: Yeah, let's go to Evans.
- 58:36SPEAKER_03: Let's go to a let's go for a Northwestern game, then let's go to a Bears game and a Cubs game if they're in town.
- 58:40SPEAKER_03: A little Chicago weekend extraordinary.
- 58:42SPEAKER_03: Yeah, we've got the flipper guide on the pod.
- 58:44SPEAKER_02: That's right.
- 58:45SPEAKER_02: I'm right here.
- 58:45SPEAKER_02: I'm here for you.
- 58:46SPEAKER_02: Let's go back to a mediocre Big 12 team that's what'd you say?
- 58:49SPEAKER_02: Would you call it wannabeat the Big 12 team?
- 58:51SPEAKER_02: West Virginia went up to Iowa State, and it was a shootout.
- 58:56SPEAKER_02: 45-42.
- 58:58SPEAKER_03: Mike, you had a little bit to bring on this game.
- 59:01SPEAKER_03: I have one opinion about this game.
- 59:03SPEAKER_03: West Virginia, if they even had a shell of a defense, they would immediately insert themselves as a Big 12 contender, top two, top three.
- 59:11SPEAKER_03: I love what Rich Rod is doing with Michael Hoppins and Mr.
- 59:15SPEAKER_03: and Cook, the running back, they are very good on offense.
- 59:19SPEAKER_03: And the thing is, if you're a West Virginia fan, pay attention to that.
- 59:22SPEAKER_03: Even if Hawkins and Cook move on, and I think they will, they're going to replace them with guys that can run his system really well.
- 59:29SPEAKER_03: Pay attention.
- 59:29SPEAKER_03: West Virginia this year is going to be a bowl squad, 66, 7-5, maybe a little better, somewhere around that range.
- 59:35SPEAKER_03: If they can get a defense, I am very interested in West Virginia.
- 59:39SPEAKER_03: Keep an eye, I'm calling my shot now.
- 59:40SPEAKER_03: That's why I want to put the added the docket.
- 59:42SPEAKER_03: West Virginia is going to threaten the Big 12 in 2027 when they get some more defensive talent.
- 59:47SPEAKER_03: Because I think what they're doing on offense is really dynamic and really fun.
- 59:51SPEAKER_03: They scored 42 points.
- 59:52SPEAKER_03: They fumbled away the game.
- 59:54SPEAKER_03: I mean, even though they lost this game, they had a chance.
- 59:56SPEAKER_03: They went down.
- 59:56SPEAKER_03: They were they had the ball, they were driving.
- 59:58SPEAKER_03: Iowa State could not stop them.
- 59:59SPEAKER_03: They probably should have won this game, couldn't do it.
- 1:00:01SPEAKER_03: Offense is awesome, defense is terrible.
- 1:00:04SPEAKER_03: Keep an eye on that.
- 1:00:05SPEAKER_03: 2027.
- 1:00:06SPEAKER_01: Unfortunately, West Virginia's 0-2 in the Big 12.
- 1:00:11SPEAKER_01: Um already a half-decent team.
- 1:00:14SPEAKER_01: Iowa State thought they were going to be one of the worst teams in college football, but kudos to them.
- 1:00:19SPEAKER_01: They still might be.
- 1:00:20SPEAKER_01: One-on-one.
- 1:00:21SPEAKER_01: Yeah, they're kind of in the mix.
- 1:00:22SPEAKER_01: They're right there with Houston and Cincinnati like making a little noise in the middle of the Big 12.
- 1:00:27SPEAKER_02: I may be wrong, but I think they grabbed a coach from like South Dakota who came in when they played Iowa.
- 1:00:34SPEAKER_02: But he's good.
- 1:00:35SPEAKER_02: The guy knows how to coach, knows how to win.
- 1:00:39SPEAKER_02: They're much better because they were the absolute bottom choice when we looked at like who could win the Big 12 going into the season.
- 1:00:46SPEAKER_02: And I look forward to them playing in the Boca Raton Bowl against Northwestern that day after Christmas, where I'm hungry for a football game.
- 1:00:54SPEAKER_03: Look, if you want to sp if you want to spike the football for your Iowa State Cyclones, do it now.
- 1:00:58SPEAKER_03: Because your next three at a BYU at Arizona, who we just saw, actually pretty good.
- 1:01:03SPEAKER_03: And then versus Oklahoma State, I think they're going 0-3 on those.
- 1:01:07SPEAKER_03: So if you're gonna if you're gonna celebrate the cyclone season, do it now.
- 1:01:10SPEAKER_03: Because I'm not sure you're gonna be able to for much longer.
- 1:01:12SPEAKER_02: I mean, we'll celebrate like a four-wing season or well, make it into Boca Tone would be huge for them.
- 1:01:17SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 1:01:17SPEAKER_02: Mike, do you want to talk about the late night games on Saturday night?
- 1:01:20SPEAKER_02: They're gonna cut you off.
- 1:01:21SPEAKER_03: No, it's good.
- 1:01:22SPEAKER_03: I don't just don't bet on the Big 12 after dark.
- 1:01:24SPEAKER_03: I mean, Big 12 is a crazy conference, and it's more of the same.
- 1:01:27SPEAKER_03: I did not see Baylor coming.
- 1:01:28SPEAKER_03: I did not see DJ Lagway having a performance like that, which I already said.
- 1:01:32SPEAKER_03: And on the flip side, Cincinnati was running the bejeeza ball.
- 1:01:34SPEAKER_03: They were running for 280 yards a game.
- 1:01:36SPEAKER_03: They couldn't do anything against Arizona.
- 1:01:38SPEAKER_03: Arizona's got a good offense, not necessarily a very good defense.
- 1:01:42SPEAKER_03: That was not what they were not what they were here for.
- 1:01:44SPEAKER_03: And Wildcats shut them down.
- 1:01:46SPEAKER_03: So man, Big 12, I don't know what to think.
- 1:01:49SPEAKER_03: Don't bet after dark kids.
- 1:01:53SPEAKER_02: Nothing good happens after the sun goes down.
- 1:01:54SPEAKER_02: Well, those are all the games that we had for this week to look back at.
- 1:01:57SPEAKER_02: I'll hit it back over to you, Mike.
- 1:01:59SPEAKER_03: Folks, that is the end of your week five review.
- 1:02:02SPEAKER_03: Good week, all in all.
- 1:02:03SPEAKER_03: Mike thought it was going to be lame because with the slate wasn't that great.
- 1:02:06SPEAKER_03: That's the beauty of college football, though.
- 1:02:08SPEAKER_03: Sometimes you would think that I think it's going to be a bad week and it turns out to be a pretty good one.
- 1:02:12SPEAKER_03: So that was that's pretty good.
- 1:02:14SPEAKER_03: Any closing thoughts before we get out of here?
- 1:02:17SPEAKER_02: Great football.
- 1:02:18SPEAKER_02: I'm ready for the next.
- 1:02:19SPEAKER_03: All right, folks, that's the end of the Mike Blitz.
- 1:02:21SPEAKER_03: Make sure you like, make sure you subscribe.
- 1:02:23SPEAKER_03: Subscribe's the biggest thing, especially on YouTube and Spotify.
- 1:02:26SPEAKER_03: In the name, in the words, the wise words of Mississippi State quarterback Kamario Taylor.
- 1:02:30SPEAKER_03: Be safe, be smooth, and have a great night.
- 1:02:44SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 1:02:52SPEAKER_01: It was the Mario smooth in the sweet.
- 1:03:05SPEAKER_02: This episode of the Mighty I'll start over.
- 1:03:10SPEAKER_02: Let's just start over.
- 1:03:14SPEAKER_03: I'm gonna play them.
- 1:03:15SPEAKER_03: I'm playing music for you that I'm gonna say.
