- 2:35Speaker 1: here a while.
- 2:36Speaker 2: Introduce yourselves to my listener.
- 2:38Speaker 6: Gentlemen, good looking guests. That's what you've got. Ben Jones,
- 2:43Speaker 6: I'm with the Breses Valley Ducks un Limited.
- 2:46Speaker 4: I'm Mike Teal.
- 2:46Speaker 5: I'm also with Brasis Valley.
- 2:48Speaker 1: Do you you guys have been doing this a while,
- 2:50Speaker 1: because I've been doing this a while, so I know
- 2:53Speaker 1: just about how long it's been.
- 2:55Speaker 2: It's been a while, it has.
- 2:57Speaker 6: It's our fifty second band up on February the twentieth Friday,
- 3:03Speaker 6: and I've been here for I know I've been here
- 3:05Speaker 6: for thirty of them.
- 3:06Speaker 1: Good gosh. So that's a week from Friday at the
- 3:11Speaker 1: Brasses Center. Correct, Yes, sir, I'm going to talk about
- 3:15Speaker 1: this just a little bit because Ducks unlomited people who
- 3:19Speaker 1: are outdoor people, they know the organization, they know a
- 3:23Speaker 1: little bit about what they've done.
- 3:26Speaker 2: You guys can tell me better. But this year we
- 3:30Speaker 2: in any water. I do know that. My guess is
- 3:34Speaker 2: it's been a little bit tough.
- 3:35Speaker 1: And every year it seems the waterfowler stopping short.
- 3:42Speaker 2: Of this area.
- 3:45Speaker 6: Yeah, the elephant in the room. Yeah, I'll just say this,
- 3:51Speaker 6: Ducks Unlimited focuses on habitat, and they've conserved over fourteen
- 3:57Speaker 6: million acres since nineteen thirty seven.
- 4:00Speaker 2: That's incredible.
- 4:00Speaker 6: So the habitat is there, whether climactic conditions. They don't
- 4:06Speaker 6: always cooperate with us.
- 4:07Speaker 1: The farmers haven't a ranchers haven't always cooperated number one.
- 4:11Speaker 1: Number two the farmers and ranchers land has been sold
- 4:14Speaker 1: off to development. And I was just remarking we had
- 4:17Speaker 1: to go to Houston yesterday to my wife. You know,
- 4:19Speaker 1: I used to drive down a hockey and see just
- 4:22Speaker 1: thousands of geese in those fields, you know, right off
- 4:24Speaker 1: the two ninety.
- 4:26Speaker 2: You don't see that anymore.
- 4:28Speaker 5: Yeah. We were having discussions about this a lot lately.
- 4:31Speaker 5: And you know, the geese, the ducks, they were going
- 4:34Speaker 5: down to the Katie Prairie long before rice farmers started.
- 4:38Speaker 2: Yeah. True.
- 4:38Speaker 5: So you know there's a lot of discussion. I know
- 4:42Speaker 5: that there are legislators asking for further research, and there's
- 4:46Speaker 5: everybody's got their different opinions of why. I think the
- 4:49Speaker 5: good point is now we're discussing it, and I think
- 4:52Speaker 5: we'll start getting some answers. But I think it's just changed.
- 4:56Speaker 2: Ben.
- 4:57Speaker 1: You know, I don't want to say that this is
- 5:00Speaker 1: a dire situation and there's lots of waterfowl around, but
- 5:05Speaker 1: here in Texas. By the time people looked up and said, hey,
- 5:09Speaker 1: where'd all the quail go? Right, it was almost too late.
- 5:13Speaker 1: It took a huge effort to begin to realize that
- 5:18Speaker 1: and to bring that back, which slowly they've done. And
- 5:23Speaker 1: it won't ever be like the good old days. And
- 5:25Speaker 1: my guess is waterfowl won't ever be like quote the
- 5:29Speaker 1: good old days in our area.
- 5:31Speaker 2: But there are things that can be done, Mike, right.
- 5:34Speaker 5: Correct, And like I said, the discussions have already started.
- 5:37Speaker 5: I don't think we're in that dire situation yet. We
- 5:41Speaker 5: just don't want to get there because we want to
- 5:43Speaker 5: have to try and recover it exactly.
- 5:46Speaker 6: And I think you made a good comment. In our area. Yeah, yeah,
- 5:51Speaker 6: you know, there's I think the success of ducks and
- 5:54Speaker 6: limited is there. We've got the numbers of birds that's
- 5:57Speaker 6: just hanging out around.
- 6:00Speaker 7: Yeah, parts of Texas that we're used to see. Yes,
- 6:03Speaker 7: you know, if they've shifted out west, yes, North Panhandle area, yep.
- 6:10Speaker 7: As long as there's water up there, there's always going
- 6:12Speaker 7: to be food.
- 6:13Speaker 1: Yes, So food and water you gotta have it right. Yes, Uh,
- 6:18Speaker 1: let's talk about du a little bet. Let's talk about
- 6:20Speaker 1: the banquet. How can people get tickets to the banquet again?
- 6:24Speaker 1: Week from Friday. I'm gonna give a fuel away, but
- 6:28Speaker 1: I'm not giving away the whole banquet. How can people
- 6:30Speaker 1: get tickets?
- 6:30Speaker 6: I understood, And there are a couple of ways to
- 6:33Speaker 6: approach it. One, you can go to ducks dot org
- 6:37Speaker 6: and navigate to love that your state. That's very simple.
- 6:40Speaker 6: It is ducks dot org. Navigate to your state Texas,
- 6:43Speaker 6: find an event. You will find the Brass Valleys Ducks
- 6:47Speaker 6: in an event there and there's a link you can
- 6:49Speaker 6: purchase tickets online.
- 6:51Speaker 2: Okay.
- 6:52Speaker 6: The other option is to call nine seven nine two
- 6:56Speaker 6: five five eight five zero seven.
- 6:59Speaker 2: I've got right here. I will mention that perfect.
- 7:02Speaker 6: Michelle Jones, and she can help you with tables or
- 7:05Speaker 6: individual tickets.
- 7:06Speaker 1: I bumped into her at the CCA banquet last Friday night.
- 7:11Speaker 1: This area has always been a terrific supporter of everything outdoors.
- 7:15Speaker 1: I know I don't have to tell you guys that
- 7:19Speaker 1: what do you have available for folks that show up
- 7:22Speaker 1: at the banquet next Friday night?
- 7:24Speaker 6: We're going to come at you with some a catered
- 7:27Speaker 6: meal from Mallett Brothers. We'll have adult beverages, we'll have
- 7:34Speaker 6: raffle items, silent auctions, live auctions. There'll be a dedicated
- 7:41Speaker 6: raffle auction for the green Wings, the young the young
- 7:44Speaker 6: kids that are there. We want them to all go
- 7:46Speaker 6: home with something.
- 7:47Speaker 2: So, by the way, this is a family deal. Kids.
- 7:50Speaker 2: Kids are welcome, Absolutely it is.
- 7:52Speaker 1: It's not And we've got to get kids out in
- 7:55Speaker 1: the field, don't we. We talk about this every year,
- 7:57Speaker 1: I know, but but we're agent out here. We got
- 8:01Speaker 1: to get kids out in the field.
- 8:02Speaker 5: So, yeah, twenty five years ago when I started on
- 8:04Speaker 5: this committee, my kids were small. Yes they're still on
- 8:07Speaker 5: the committee. Yes they're not small anymore, but they're still involved.
- 8:12Speaker 2: Well you grew up taking them outside absolutely yeah. Yeah.
- 8:15Speaker 5: In fact, they get to go more than I do.
- 8:17Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, I know that that kind of sucks. Life
- 8:19Speaker 1: gets in the way.
- 8:20Speaker 6: But so it's the important part about it. It's just
- 8:23Speaker 6: getting out there with the absolutely absolutely kill ducks on
- 8:29Speaker 6: your on every outing. But they got a sunrise and
- 8:32Speaker 6: a beautiful day and they and they.
- 8:35Speaker 1: Are looking down at a machine or a phone for
- 8:38Speaker 1: for just a couple hours anyway, right, It's great I mean,
- 8:41Speaker 1: I think that's a big deal.
- 8:43Speaker 5: And we have a lot of people that come to
- 8:45Speaker 5: the banquet or even on the committee that are not
- 8:47Speaker 5: duck hunt.
- 8:47Speaker 2: Absolutely, and we've seen that. I know over the years.
- 8:51Speaker 1: You guys have done this forever, I'm telling you. But
- 8:53Speaker 1: the bottom line is those of us who go outdoors,
- 8:57Speaker 1: we're concerned with all of the outdoors.
- 9:00Speaker 2: We're concerned with the habitat. We're concerned with conservation. Right
- 9:04Speaker 2: We're not.
- 9:05Speaker 1: The people that have signs holding up saying you know,
- 9:09Speaker 1: you're murdering ducks.
- 9:10Speaker 2: We're we are concerned about the whole of the habitat
- 9:14Speaker 2: right at. Ducks Unlimited has done that for ever.
- 9:18Speaker 6: Yes, Yes, it's some of the primary funding. I think
- 9:20Speaker 6: it's through the mole the Morale Act, and you know
- 9:24Speaker 6: it's it's fees from hunters. Yes, are dedicated to go
- 9:29Speaker 6: to state projects, federal projects. Is the hunter's decline and
- 9:34Speaker 6: those those fees decline. Yes, and therefore everything stuff yep.
- 9:38Speaker 7: Uh.
- 9:39Speaker 1: Do you have like some hints of some of the
- 9:42Speaker 1: things that people can bid on next Friday evening?
- 9:47Speaker 7: I do.
- 9:47Speaker 6: We've got just quite a number of guns. Every year
- 9:53Speaker 6: Ducks and Limited comes out with a shot gun piston, yes,
- 9:55Speaker 6: and rifle yes of the year.
- 9:58Speaker 4: Yes.
- 9:58Speaker 6: So we'll have brand new ducks and limited twenty twenty
- 10:01Speaker 6: six merchandise.
- 10:02Speaker 2: Very cool.
- 10:02Speaker 6: On the we're one of the earliest banquets in the state,
- 10:05Speaker 6: so you get to see everything that's new, including firearms.
- 10:08Speaker 6: We'll have quite a few trips available. There's a nice
- 10:12Speaker 6: quail hunt. You mentioned quail earlier over in Mississippi where
- 10:16Speaker 6: they still have some really you know. And we have
- 10:19Speaker 6: some duck hunts and some fishing shirt some international trips I've.
- 10:25Speaker 5: Been mentioned the green Wings. We have a totally separate
- 10:30Speaker 5: raffle for the green Wings. Yes, and it's a must
- 10:32Speaker 5: be present to win, So we try to set it
- 10:36Speaker 5: up so that we've got plenty of presents or raffles, giveaways, whatever,
- 10:41Speaker 5: so that everybody goes home with something awesome.
- 10:44Speaker 1: Okay, look, you guys have been doing this a long time.
- 10:48Speaker 1: I know it's a labor love. All these banquets aren't
- 10:51Speaker 1: the easiest. Are Will there be tickets? I know you
- 10:55Speaker 1: want a count because of the catering. Will there be
- 10:58Speaker 1: tickets available at the door?
- 11:00Speaker 4: Here?
- 11:00Speaker 6: We will. We will not turn anyone down.
- 11:02Speaker 2: Okay, and sixty bucks? Did I did? I get that
- 11:05Speaker 2: part right, that's right.
- 11:06Speaker 6: Sixty bucks for adults and forty dollars for youth and first.
- 11:10Speaker 2: Respect and first responders. Okay, great deal.
- 11:13Speaker 1: A week from Friday night, February twentieth at the Brases Center,
- 11:18Speaker 1: the fifty second annual Banquet. Can we do this again
- 11:25Speaker 1: next Year'll y'all quitting yet?
- 11:27Speaker 4: Sign us up?
- 11:27Speaker 6: I hope we're all three here.
- 11:29Speaker 2: I hope we're all three here too. Time's running out,
- 11:31Speaker 2: we'll see.
- 11:32Speaker 1: Thanks, gentlemen, Thank y'all so much, Mike and Ben. I
