- 0:00SPEAKER_00: You've heard the phrase, what goes around comes around.
- 0:04SPEAKER_00: But in the marketplace where time is tight and pressure is high,
- 0:10SPEAKER_00: it's easy to forget that how we treat people is just as important
- 0:16SPEAKER_00: as what we produce.
- 0:18SPEAKER_00: So let me ask you this.
- 0:20SPEAKER_00: Are your words, actions, and decisions creating ripples of trust or waves of regret?
- 0:30SPEAKER_00: Today, we're in Proverbs 11, 17 through 18, because it's the 11th day of the month.
- 0:43SPEAKER_00: Welcome to Marketplace Proverbs and Coffee with Ernie,
- 0:46SPEAKER_00: where a proverb a day keeps stinking thinking away.
- 0:51SPEAKER_00: I'm Ernie Lansford,
- 0:52SPEAKER_00: here to help you align biblical wisdom of Proverbs
- 0:56SPEAKER_00: with everyday Marketplace leadership in what I call Customer Success Mastery.
- 1:04SPEAKER_00: So, grab your coffee and let's reflect on today's Proverb from Chapter 11.
- 1:10SPEAKER_00: We're opening with a powerful anchor from one of the Marketplace Proverbs books.
- 1:17SPEAKER_00: Those who are kind benefit themselves, but the cruel bring ruin on themselves.
- 1:26SPEAKER_00: A wicked person earns deceptive wages, but the one who sows righteousness reaps a sure reward.
- 1:35SPEAKER_00: That's Proverbs 11, verses 17 through 18, using the NIV version.
- 1:44SPEAKER_00: Now, this is the passage here.
- 1:47SPEAKER_00: About legacy.
- 1:48SPEAKER_00: About what lasts and what doesn't.
- 1:52SPEAKER_00: Not long ago,
- 1:54SPEAKER_00: we in the USA watched as a once respected pastor of a prominent megachurch had
- 2:03SPEAKER_00: to resign in disgrace.
- 2:06SPEAKER_00: He's gifted.
- 2:08SPEAKER_00: He's charismatic.
- 2:09SPEAKER_00: He's followed by thousands.
- 2:13SPEAKER_00: But over time, pride and power And frankly, cruelty caught up with him.
- 2:20SPEAKER_00: That fall didn't just affect him.
- 2:23SPEAKER_00: It rippled through families and communities and an entire generation
- 2:29SPEAKER_00: of believers wrestling with disillusionment.
- 2:34SPEAKER_00: And we see the same thing in business.
- 2:37SPEAKER_00: A person cuts corners and manipulates for profit or Prioritizes ego over ethics.
- 2:45SPEAKER_00: Remember, in previous podcasts, I defined ego as edging God out.
- 2:51SPEAKER_00: Now, all of that might work for a while, but eventually the cracks show.
- 2:59SPEAKER_00: There have been times in my leadership career,
- 3:03SPEAKER_00: and I questioned the word leadership and how I acted, where I wasn't kind to people.
- 3:11SPEAKER_00: People had made a mistake,
- 3:13SPEAKER_00: but rather than trying to learn why or how the mistake happened
- 3:19SPEAKER_00: and how we can correct it, I yelled, I screamed, I even cursed at times.
- 3:26SPEAKER_00: Forgive me, Lord.
- 3:27SPEAKER_00: He did.
- 3:27SPEAKER_00: He already has.
- 3:28SPEAKER_00: I even told one person I didn't trust him anymore.
- 3:33SPEAKER_00: And you know what that did?
- 3:36SPEAKER_00: That strained the relationship with us.
- 3:40SPEAKER_00: From that point forward, I'm no longer with that organization.
- 3:46SPEAKER_00: He still is.
- 3:49SPEAKER_00: But it strained the relationship.
- 3:51SPEAKER_00: I did not show kindness and integrity.
- 3:58SPEAKER_00: I did not show the kind of, I did not reflect God's love.
- 4:06SPEAKER_00: And the relationship didn't last.
- 4:09SPEAKER_00: Our relationships,
- 4:11SPEAKER_00: frankly, should grow deeper because the influence of those relationships compounds.
- 4:19SPEAKER_00: And more importantly, their soul stays anchored.
- 4:24SPEAKER_00: Proverbs 11 isn't just good advice.
- 4:28SPEAKER_00: It's a kingdom-centric business leader's blueprint.
- 4:32SPEAKER_00: It reminds us that success isn't always visible.
- 4:38SPEAKER_00: Some of the most important work happens in the quiet, faithful decisions no one sees.
- 4:46SPEAKER_00: Jesus spoke of this too.
- 4:47SPEAKER_00: The Great Commission in Matthew 28 wasn't just about preaching.
- 4:52SPEAKER_00: It was about teaching and making disciples by example.
- 4:58SPEAKER_00: And I love the picture in Exodus 34.
- 5:01SPEAKER_00: When Moses comes down from the mountain, his face is radiant.
- 5:06SPEAKER_00: After spending time with God, he didn't have to tell people he'd been with the Lord.
- 5:12SPEAKER_00: They could see it.
- 5:14SPEAKER_00: Now, that's the kind of leader, that's the kind of customer success master I strive to be.
- 5:20SPEAKER_00: Not loud, but lit up, so to speak.
- 5:24SPEAKER_00: Think about that.
- 5:27SPEAKER_00: So here's today's customer success code.
- 5:29SPEAKER_00: Let your kindness speak louder than your pitch.
- 5:34SPEAKER_00: And your integrity shine brighter than your brand.
- 5:40SPEAKER_00: And as usual, we have some action points to reflect and ripple.
- 5:45SPEAKER_00: Let's put this into motion today.
- 5:47SPEAKER_00: Action point number one is self-reflection.
- 5:51SPEAKER_00: Think about your most recent business interactions.
- 5:55SPEAKER_00: Did your behavior reflect kindness and integrity?
- 6:02SPEAKER_00: Action point number two.
- 6:04SPEAKER_00: Relationships over transactions.
- 6:08SPEAKER_00: Choose one customer or colleague to engage this week,
- 6:13SPEAKER_00: not for a sale, not for a transaction, but to add significance to serve them.
- 6:22SPEAKER_00: Action point number three, model the light.
- 6:27SPEAKER_00: How are you representing Christ to the younger members of your team?
- 6:34SPEAKER_00: And to non-believers watching your leadership.
- 6:39SPEAKER_00: And action point number four, kindness in action.
- 6:44SPEAKER_00: Write a note.
- 6:45SPEAKER_00: You've heard me say this.
- 6:47SPEAKER_00: I'm a big believer in handwritten notes.
- 6:50SPEAKER_00: You know, write a note to give encouragement.
- 6:54SPEAKER_00: One intentional note per day really goes a long way.
- 7:02SPEAKER_00: Action point number five, evaluate the ripples.
- 7:07SPEAKER_00: Look back at a recent decision.
- 7:10SPEAKER_00: What impact did it have?
- 7:12SPEAKER_00: Are there ripples you need to reinforce or repair?
- 7:18SPEAKER_00: And action point number six, start with prayer.
- 7:22SPEAKER_00: Start your morning, I highly recommend this, with a two chairs moment.
- 7:28SPEAKER_00: Now, I borrowed that from a mentor of mine, Bob Bodine, who wrote the book Two Chairs.
- 7:38SPEAKER_00: And he says,
- 7:39SPEAKER_00: set up two chairs in your area,
- 7:43SPEAKER_00: your office, your quiet room or whatever, and you sit in one.
- 7:47SPEAKER_00: And the Holy Spirit and God sits in the other one.
- 7:51SPEAKER_00: And just have a conversation with that person and see what happens.
- 7:57SPEAKER_00: Ask the Lord, real simple, what would you have me do today to serve your other children?
- 8:06SPEAKER_00: Think about that.
- 8:09SPEAKER_00: Heavenly Father, thank you for the lessons that I've learned through both success and failure.
- 8:18SPEAKER_00: Please continue to help me trust and obey you in every circumstance.
- 8:26SPEAKER_00: Please continue to open my heart to see each client,
- 8:29SPEAKER_00: each employee,
- 8:31SPEAKER_00: each colleague,
- 8:32SPEAKER_00: each podcast listener as someone to add significance and may kindness
- 8:39SPEAKER_00: and integrity mark my leadership and customer success mastery
- 8:46SPEAKER_00: and may my life Reflect your glory everywhere I go.
- 8:52SPEAKER_00: In Jesus' name.
- 8:55SPEAKER_00: Well,
- 8:55SPEAKER_00: thank you for joining me for today's episode of Marketplace Proverbs and Coffee
- 8:59SPEAKER_00: with Ernie.
- 9:01SPEAKER_00: I speak numbers 624 through 26 over you.
- 9:06SPEAKER_00: May the Lord bless you and protect you.
- 9:08SPEAKER_00: May the Lord make his face shine on you and be gracious to you.
- 9:13SPEAKER_00: May the Lord look with favor on you and give you peace.
- 9:18SPEAKER_00: As always, success is temporal.
- 9:22SPEAKER_00: Adding significance to others is infinite.
- 9:25SPEAKER_00: I look forward to seeing you again on Marketplace Proverbs and Coffee with Ernie.
