- 0:01Avoidance of suffering, may be considered as a negative status.
- 0:06Achievement of happiness, is the positive pole of this continuum
- 0:12Both states are rooted in the mind and the standpoint that the
- 0:15individual takes. When the scriptures speak of
- 0:19evil thoughts or purified thoughts, this is not directly
- 0:24intended to be a moral judgment. Rather, it is a statement of the
- 0:29energetic source and impact of the thoughts that are
- 0:33entertained and held in the mind, those that are based in
- 0:37the ego personality and the desire soul, that bring
- 0:41disturbance and hand suffering and cause pain are evil
- 0:47thoughts. Those that are Serene, widening,
- 0:51and uplifting and that are based in the Universal Consciousness
- 0:55are considered to be purified. Thoughts, the one state brings
- 1:00suffering, the other brings happiness.
- 1:03Neither of these states is dependent on the outer
- 1:06circumstances, but on the inward response to those circumstances.
- 1:13The key there for to achieving happiness isn't obtaining
- 1:16Mastery, over one's Thoughts. With the first step.
- 1:20Being the observation of those thoughts.
- 1:24In the book, commentaries on the dhammapada.
- 1:27The mother provides insight into a number of verses from this
- 1:31classical Buddhist texts. The dhammapada states, quote
- 1:36mind predominates. Everything proceeds from mind,
- 1:40in all things, the primordial. Is mind if a man speaks or acts
- 1:46with a purified, mind happiness accompanies him as closely as
- 1:51his Inseparable Shadow and quote, the mother notes quote,
- 1:58this is the counterpart of what we read last time, the
- 2:01dhammapada contrasts a purified mind with an evil mind.
- 2:05We have already said that, there are four successive stages for
- 2:09the purification of the Mind a purified.
- 2:12Mind is naturally a mind that does not admit any wrong
- 2:15thought. And we have seen that the
- 2:18complete Mastery of thought, which is required to gain.
- 2:21This result is the last achievement in the four stages,
- 2:25I have spoken of the first is to observe one's mind.
- 2:31Do not believe that it is such an easy thing for to observe
- 2:35your thoughts. You must first of all, separate
- 2:38yourself from them in the ordinary State.
- 2:41The ordinary man does not distinguish himself from his
- 2:45thoughts. He does not even know that he
- 2:48thinks he thinks by habit. And if he is asked all of a
- 2:53sudden, what are you thinking of?
- 2:56He knows nothing about it. That is to say, 95 times out of
- 3:01100, he will answer. I do not know.
- 3:05There is a complete identification between the
- 3:07movement of thought, and the consciousness of the being to
- 3:12observe the thought. The first movement, then is to
- 3:15step back and look at it to separate yourself from your
- 3:19thoughts. So that the movement of the
- 3:21Consciousness and that of thought may not be confused.
- 3:26Thus, when we say that one, must observe one's thoughts.
- 3:29Do not believe that it is simple.
- 3:32It is the first step, I suggest that this evening in our
- 3:36meditation, we take up this first exercise, which consists
- 3:41in standing back, from one's thought.
- 3:43And looking at it and quote, reference SRI aurobindo, and the
- 3:48mother living within the yoga approached, a psychological
- 3:52health and growth disturbances of mine.
- 3:56Unruly and perturbing thoughts Pages 35 to 40 three.
