- 0:00Speaker 1: If I'm cash man, this is the year. I'm going
- 0:03Speaker 1: all out. I'm trying to add it the deadline and
- 0:06Speaker 1: I'm trying to give my best shot at the daughters
- 0:08Speaker 1: and try to be thrown.
- 0:09Speaker 2: Them one to pull capsule.
- 0:13Speaker 3: All right, Welcome back, everybody, Welcome back. Joining me today
- 0:18Speaker 3: is fan sided, national MLB insider and Foul Territory contributor
- 0:22Speaker 3: Robert Murray. You can find him on Exit by Robert Murray.
- 0:26Speaker 3: Robert has broken some major deals throughout his career and
- 0:29Speaker 3: he is joining us today to break down the MLB
- 0:32Speaker 3: trade deadline and maybe take a look at some players
- 0:34Speaker 3: who could be available.
- 0:35Speaker 1: How's it going, man, it goes well. I appreciate you
- 0:38Speaker 1: having me the warm welcome.
- 0:39Speaker 2: How you doing.
- 0:40Speaker 3: I'm wonderful man. I mean, this is my favorite time
- 0:44Speaker 3: of year. Baseball trade talk because it typically draws out
- 0:48Speaker 3: a couple of months is unlike anything else in sports
- 0:51Speaker 3: in my opinion, And it seems like every year there's
- 0:54Speaker 3: one or two big surprises that happened, you know, like
- 0:56Speaker 3: the Devor's trade came from out of nowhere. I guess
- 0:58Speaker 3: we should have seen it coming because he was kind
- 1:00Speaker 3: of disgruntled. But you were just talking about how it's
- 1:02Speaker 3: it's been longer than you could believe since that has happened.
- 1:06Speaker 1: Yeah, for sure, Like it even happened one year ago today,
- 1:09Speaker 1: and I remember, I'll never forget it. Like the initial
- 1:12Speaker 1: I had, I was relaxing it was Father's Day last year,
- 1:15Speaker 1: and next thing, you know, all of a sudden, I
- 1:16Speaker 1: get a text being like, hey, did Devers get did
- 1:20Speaker 1: you get traded to the Giants?
- 1:21Speaker 2: And I'm like, wait, what are you talking about?
- 1:23Speaker 1: And to start asking around the next thing, you know,
- 1:25Speaker 1: it's real and my Father's Day, where I was planning
- 1:27Speaker 1: on call my dad and wishing them a happy Father's
- 1:29Speaker 1: Day and catch up with him, turn.
- 1:30Speaker 2: Into the just whirlwind.
- 1:31Speaker 1: And I expect this year the same thing to happen,
- 1:34Speaker 1: where there's there's going to be something that we don't see.
- 1:36Speaker 1: I don't necessarily at this point, I don't know what
- 1:39Speaker 1: that something could be, but I'm expecting craziness. And my
- 1:43Speaker 1: phone over like the last week or two, is definitely
- 1:46Speaker 1: picked up more so this time than usually it does.
- 1:49Speaker 1: For sure.
- 1:50Speaker 3: So this is a Yankees oriented show, obviously, so I
- 1:53Speaker 3: wanted to kind of skew the conversation towards players that
- 1:56Speaker 3: would be a good fit for the Yankees. I know
- 1:58Speaker 3: there's a ton of guys across the spectrum of positions
- 2:00Speaker 3: that are available, but I want to lean into catching
- 2:04Speaker 3: relief pitching. Those are probably the two big areas where
- 2:08Speaker 3: I think the Yankees will look. Maybe shortstop, although I
- 2:10Speaker 3: think Lombard has picked it up up enough that he
- 2:12Speaker 3: could be a late season call up maybe, and cab
- 2:15Speaker 3: i Arra is doing a nice job volpe up and down.
- 2:17Speaker 3: But I think catcher and relief pitcher probably the two
- 2:20Speaker 3: areas where Brian Cashman is going to look the most.
- 2:23Speaker 3: With Aaron Judge out, the Yankees are going to have
- 2:27Speaker 3: to go into run prevention mode, right and that starts
- 2:29Speaker 3: with being strong up the middle pitching, catching, So let's
- 2:32Speaker 3: begin with talking about the catchers that could be available.
- 2:36Speaker 3: They've struggled to get any offense from the catching position
- 2:40Speaker 3: at all this year. It was only a day or
- 2:41Speaker 3: two ago that j Cescara got the first hit for
- 2:44Speaker 3: a Yankee in June from the catching position, which I
- 2:47Speaker 3: couldn't believe when I heard that stat. We've seen some
- 2:50Speaker 3: interesting names at Lee Rushman. You know Ryan Jeffers, who's
- 2:53Speaker 3: coming back from Haymate bone surgery. Hunter Goodman, what's the
- 2:57Speaker 3: word round the campfire on who could actually be available,
- 3:01Speaker 3: who maybe would have the interest of Brian Cashman and
- 3:05Speaker 3: the Yankees, And what do you think is going to
- 3:08Speaker 3: go down?
- 3:09Speaker 1: Yeah, it seems like it's a conversation that we have
- 3:11Speaker 1: every year about teams looking for catching help and they're
- 3:14Speaker 1: just being very little like legitimate, real options that are
- 3:16Speaker 1: gonna be out there. And this year, at this point,
- 3:19Speaker 1: I can kind of see it be in the same way.
- 3:20Speaker 1: Ali Rutschman's gonna be the guy that every team or
- 3:22Speaker 1: every contending team who needs a catcher, that's gonna be
- 3:25Speaker 1: the guy that they call about. I could see a
- 3:26Speaker 1: J Preller calling about him a bunch of other teams.
- 3:29Speaker 1: But I have a really hard time seeing the Oils
- 3:31Speaker 1: moving on from him. He's had a really nice season
- 3:33Speaker 1: this year, and this is exactly why they held onto
- 3:36Speaker 1: him last year, where they had a bunch of teams
- 3:37Speaker 1: trying to buy a low held on to him hoping
- 3:40Speaker 1: that more results were in there. They've definitely been rewarded
- 3:44Speaker 1: for that this year for sure. Hunter Goodman, I have
- 3:46Speaker 1: a hard time seeing him moved. Seems like a building
- 3:49Speaker 1: block for that organization and someone that they really really
- 3:52Speaker 1: like there. If we're talking guys who could be maybe available,
- 3:58Speaker 1: I would think the first team that I would look
- 4:00Speaker 1: at as a Texas Rangers, as far as they got
- 4:02Speaker 1: some different names there. Obviously, Danny Jensen was somebody who
- 4:05Speaker 1: they brought into the obviouseason they signed into a multi
- 4:08Speaker 1: year deal, and he's been a veteran guy who's drawn
- 4:11Speaker 1: interest in the past where he's been with teams like
- 4:13Speaker 1: the Rays and and the Brewers. And I could see
- 4:16Speaker 1: the Yankees trying to be involved with a guy like
- 4:18Speaker 1: that Higashioka. I mean, there's it's.
- 4:22Speaker 2: Difficult right now.
- 4:23Speaker 1: And I wonder too if we're talking about like a
- 4:25Speaker 1: by Low option. I wondered if a guy like Joey
- 4:28Speaker 1: Bart with the Pirates could end up being somebody that
- 4:31Speaker 1: they take a flyer on. He's not necessarily going to
- 4:33Speaker 1: draw the immediate WHOA. I can't believe the Yankees acquired
- 4:35Speaker 1: him kind of deal, but still like he's an upsided guy.
- 4:39Speaker 1: You don't know what you can unleash there, So I
- 4:42Speaker 1: don't expect there to be any like significant catching move
- 4:45Speaker 1: at least as of this point.
- 4:47Speaker 3: You think there's any interest around the league in Austin
- 4:49Speaker 3: Wells because he's obviously had a bad start to the
- 4:52Speaker 3: Yankees would be moving low. But if you're saying that
- 4:55Speaker 3: there's this dearth of catching out there, maybe somebody says, hey,
- 5:00Speaker 3: you know, he's had some headaches, whatever WBC threw him off,
- 5:03Speaker 3: We'll take a flyer, We'll go get Austin Wells, and
- 5:06Speaker 3: that would open up the Yankees to maybe do something else.
- 5:08Speaker 3: Do you think there's any interest in Wells out there?
- 5:11Speaker 1: I mean, I gotta imagine there'd be teams who would
- 5:12Speaker 1: check in, But I also can't see the Yankees giving
- 5:15Speaker 1: him up, Like that's a guy that they that they've
- 5:17Speaker 1: give him meaningful time to and I just have a
- 5:19Speaker 1: hard time seeing that happening. The scenario where I could
- 5:23Speaker 1: see that maybe coming into play is, let's say that
- 5:26Speaker 1: the Yankees have a deal in place where they can
- 5:27Speaker 1: acquire another catcher. If they can move or then move
- 5:30Speaker 1: Wells right after that, maybe that's something that they can consider.
- 5:33Speaker 1: But I at this point, I don't know if that's
- 5:36Speaker 1: like the most likely thing. And you could see the
- 5:37Speaker 1: numbers right there. This season has not been what the
- 5:40Speaker 1: Yankees are hoping for with Wells at all, like they
- 5:42Speaker 1: were expecting much bigger and better things and only hitting
- 5:45Speaker 1: a buck sixty six and that strikeout percentage, that that's
- 5:49Speaker 1: not enough. And he's aware of that. The Yankees are
- 5:51Speaker 1: aware of that. Maybe they can get more out of
- 5:53Speaker 1: him in the second half here for sure.
- 5:54Speaker 2: Who knows.
- 5:55Speaker 4: With over thirty five million downloads, seekeeek is the number
- 5:58Speaker 4: one rated ticketing app and crats there are many many
- 6:02Speaker 4: baseball games on the inventory to check out all summer long.
- 6:06Speaker 4: This is the season now, it is baseball baseball season.
- 6:09Speaker 4: Not many other options for you sports wise. I know
- 6:11Speaker 4: you can go anywhere you want to go with Seakeek.
- 6:13Speaker 4: There's so many tickets to choose from. But baseball's center
- 6:16Speaker 4: stage now.
- 6:17Speaker 5: For the next couple months, school's out, I'm going to
- 6:20Speaker 5: watch some baseball games, some big league games, all in
- 6:23Speaker 5: my area, and I want to know exactly what it
- 6:25Speaker 5: looks like. And I also want the best deal, So
- 6:27Speaker 5: I'm looking for the green, not the red.
- 6:29Speaker 4: That's right. The green hooks you up with the best
- 6:32Speaker 4: deals on the app. Of course, we have the code
- 6:34Speaker 4: It's Territory ten for ten percent off your next set
- 6:37Speaker 4: of tickets at sea Geek. That's ten percent off any
- 6:40Speaker 4: MLB tickets with the promo code Territory one zero. Make
- 6:45Speaker 4: sure you click the link in the description of this
- 6:47Speaker 4: episode that'll download the app if you don't have it already,
- 6:50Speaker 4: and you'll have the code automatically added to your account
- 6:52Speaker 4: so that you can use that code later. Thank you,
- 6:55Speaker 4: see geek.
- 6:55Speaker 3: Do you have a theory on why he's regressed so much?
- 6:58Speaker 3: Do you think it's just injury? I mean, he does
- 7:00Speaker 3: have an artery issue that has supposedly cut off blood
- 7:04Speaker 3: flow to his thumb. I believe it is. And then
- 7:07Speaker 3: obviously this headaches thing. I mean, do you think it's
- 7:10Speaker 3: just an injury situation or do you think it's the
- 7:11Speaker 3: WBC that screwed up some guys. I think cal Raley
- 7:14Speaker 3: he's out still, but he was hitting in the one
- 7:15Speaker 3: sixties when he went down.
- 7:17Speaker 1: No, it's you have to think that'd be at least
- 7:20Speaker 1: some of it. But the injury part, like not being
- 7:22Speaker 1: able to feel like your thumb, it seems like a
- 7:25Speaker 1: pretty significant thing when you're talking about batting in a
- 7:27Speaker 1: major league environment. So I'd imagine both of those things
- 7:30Speaker 1: coming to play here for sure. But also baseball is
- 7:32Speaker 1: extremely difficult, Like we just talked about cal Raleigh, perfect example,
- 7:37Speaker 1: it's a guy who last year he tore the league
- 7:39Speaker 1: on he was put the league on notice, and this
- 7:42Speaker 1: series hitting he was hitting under two hundred, resembled very
- 7:47Speaker 1: little of himself. It's just a it's a very difficult game.
- 7:49Speaker 1: So I would imagine World Baseball Classic, but definitely I
- 7:52Speaker 1: think the focus there, which should be the injuries as
- 7:55Speaker 1: far as well the struggles this year.
- 7:57Speaker 3: Well count me on board for being interested in Kylegashioka.
- 8:00Speaker 3: I loved Higgy when he was with the Yankees. He
- 8:02Speaker 3: knows the situation like he knows the situation in the Bronx,
- 8:05Speaker 3: like he's played there. Not everybody handles that, and he
- 8:09Speaker 3: was fine there. I know he's probably more pricey than
- 8:11Speaker 3: you would want in a backup catcher, but hey, I
- 8:14Speaker 3: mean it's whatever he's given you is better what the
- 8:16Speaker 3: Yankees have gotten so far. So I think that there
- 8:18Speaker 3: should be some interest there. Let's talk a little bit
- 8:21Speaker 3: about relievers, because the Yankees bullpen has been a little
- 8:25Speaker 3: bit of a headache. If we're being honest, you know, Bennard,
- 8:28Speaker 3: he's pretty good with a five run lead, but there's
- 8:30Speaker 3: not a lot of those to go around in the postseason. Obviously,
- 8:32Speaker 3: there's the thought of moving one of the starters to
- 8:34Speaker 3: the bullpen, whether it's Ryan Weathers, whether it's Will Warren.
- 8:38Speaker 3: Both guys had somewhat rough outings the last time out.
- 8:42Speaker 3: What is your thought on, you know, who could be
- 8:45Speaker 3: out there as an impact reliever forgetting or all this
- 8:48Speaker 3: Chapman Because that apology is not coming. But let's just
- 8:51Speaker 3: take a look at every pitcher except for all this
- 8:53Speaker 3: Chapman is on the board.
- 8:55Speaker 1: Yeah, I was like, obviously the first guy is going
- 8:57Speaker 1: to be a world as Chapman. But there's no way
- 8:59Speaker 1: that's going to happen. I'd be stunned. But the name
- 9:02Speaker 1: that I that I keep coming back to as far
- 9:04Speaker 1: as the trade market goes, what about Josh Hater. He's
- 9:07Speaker 1: a guy who he's signed with Houston big five year
- 9:10Speaker 1: for ninety five million dollars contract. He's been injured when
- 9:13Speaker 1: he is available, he's one of the best in most
- 9:16Speaker 1: elite relievers in ball. The Ashers are only four games
- 9:20Speaker 1: out of their division, so it's not like we're talking
- 9:22Speaker 1: about them being a definitive seller by any means here.
- 9:25Speaker 1: But he's someone who if you're trying to make an
- 9:28Speaker 1: impact edition where you can have him in the ninth inning.
- 9:31Speaker 1: You're not going to find anyone better at this deadline
- 9:33Speaker 1: than him, not even an old as Chapman like he's
- 9:35Speaker 1: he's incredible, He's awesome. If you want to go in
- 9:38Speaker 1: some some different areas here, maybe a guy like Pete
- 9:40Speaker 1: Fairbanks obviously performed well in the American League East with
- 9:44Speaker 1: the Tampa Bay Race for a while, sends a tell
- 9:46Speaker 1: in Colorado has been phenomenal. Ever since he's moved to
- 9:50Speaker 1: the bullpen and been a clear guy in the in
- 9:52Speaker 1: the late innings for them, he's been phenomenal and big
- 9:55Speaker 1: resurgencies and he's not controllable by any means. So we're
- 9:58Speaker 1: looking at more of a rental option here. But still
- 10:00Speaker 1: like those are the three guys that I'm keeping an
- 10:02Speaker 1: eye on here. Maybe you can look like at a
- 10:05Speaker 1: Riley O'Brien type in Saint Louis. But that being said,
- 10:09Speaker 1: the Cardinals are a team that's way exceeded everyone's expectations
- 10:12Speaker 1: this year. They look awesome, and what was supposed to
- 10:15Speaker 1: be a rebuilding year, we could even see them adding
- 10:18Speaker 1: at the deadline here, and myself did not see that coming.
- 10:21Speaker 1: I don't think many people in ball saw it coming.
- 10:23Speaker 1: But they've been awesome, but I still expect plenty of
- 10:26Speaker 1: teams to be talking about Riley O'Brien and seeing if
- 10:28Speaker 1: they can get him out of Saint Louis. But those
- 10:31Speaker 1: are the four names as of this point that I'm
- 10:33Speaker 1: looking at.
- 10:33Speaker 2: Here for sure.
- 10:34Speaker 3: Pete Fairbanks having kind of a rough year with an
- 10:36Speaker 3: ERA over six, not exactly, you know, driving me crazy
- 10:41Speaker 3: for wanting to pick him up. I'm gonna take a
- 10:43Speaker 3: look at Riley O'Brien because I haven't looked at his
- 10:46Speaker 3: numbers yet, but I see that I'll just pull up
- 10:49Speaker 3: his numbers here. He has thrown thirty innings. He's got
- 10:52Speaker 3: thirty two strikeouts, so more than a strikeout perading. He
- 10:55Speaker 3: throws from the right side. Hitters hitting two ninety seven
- 10:59Speaker 3: against him. Don't love that, but not great.
- 11:02Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, he's talented for sure, though.
- 11:06Speaker 3: Yeah, this be one of those guys. Sorry, go ahead, No.
- 11:09Speaker 1: And he's controllable too, which I think that's something that
- 11:12Speaker 1: a lot of these teams really like, and that might
- 11:14Speaker 1: drive up the asking price. But if you want to
- 11:16Speaker 1: have long term certainty in the in the bullpenman, and
- 11:18Speaker 1: you can add him to that mix there, that's not
- 11:20Speaker 1: necessarily the worst thing. And although like for the Yankees' sake,
- 11:24Speaker 1: you gotta imagine that they wish or oldest Chapman was
- 11:27Speaker 1: on any other team besides Boston, because maybe they could
- 11:29Speaker 1: try to smooth things over. But still, like, yeah, that one,
- 11:33Speaker 1: I would be flat out stunted if that ever became
- 11:36Speaker 1: like a legitimate scenario.
- 11:37Speaker 3: What about former Yankee Garrett.
- 11:39Speaker 2: Whitlock problem I can't image, I can't imagine.
- 11:44Speaker 3: So yeah, no, okay, all right, well we've had some
- 11:47Speaker 3: people message in about him that we're interested in him.
- 11:49Speaker 3: I mean, he's having a good year with Boston four
- 11:52Speaker 3: and one, two point nine to one. But if Boston's
- 11:54Speaker 3: out of it, what incentive do they have to hold
- 11:56Speaker 3: onto this guy? I mean maybe they just wouldn't deal
- 11:58Speaker 3: him back to the Yankees.
- 11:59Speaker 1: Yeah, it's it's like obviously like the Catcher trade that
- 12:01Speaker 1: happened like that. I don't know if that's gonna have
- 12:05Speaker 1: one side or the other like more hesitant to deal
- 12:07Speaker 1: with deal with one another, but also the rivalry too.
- 12:11Speaker 1: Like I gotta imagine if Boston ends up moving a
- 12:13Speaker 1: guy like Garrett Whitlock, they'd want to have that have
- 12:16Speaker 1: him go probably elsewhere besides the Yankees. I can't imagine
- 12:20Speaker 1: they'd be in a hurry to do that. And plus two,
- 12:22Speaker 1: like considering everything that's been going on in Boston and
- 12:25Speaker 1: just the headaches publicly that have gone on. If all
- 12:27Speaker 1: of a sudden they have this disappointing season and then
- 12:30Speaker 1: they move a guy like Garrett Whitlock to the Yankees
- 12:33Speaker 1: and he ends up helping them win a World Series,
- 12:36Speaker 1: that's just I mean, that's just icing on the cake
- 12:38Speaker 1: of a like one of the all time bad seasons.
- 12:40Speaker 2: I just I cannot see that happening.
- 12:42Speaker 3: All right, So every year there are surprises. You know,
- 12:46Speaker 3: we talked about how the Raffie Devers move came from
- 12:49Speaker 3: out of nowhere. Are there any other names out there that,
- 12:52Speaker 3: you know, maybe popping up over the last couple of
- 12:55Speaker 3: weeks that you know, might surprise people. I mean, is
- 12:59Speaker 3: El Kantara available, you know? I mean, is there a
- 13:02Speaker 3: real chance that Schooble gets traded? You know, it could
- 13:05Speaker 3: Devers get moved again. I mean, Devers obviously unhappy in
- 13:09Speaker 3: San Francisco. As soon as they started talking about dealing him,
- 13:11Speaker 3: he got red hot. So what are your thoughts on
- 13:13Speaker 3: the rest of the trade market.
- 13:15Speaker 1: Yeah, I would say, as far as the rest of
- 13:17Speaker 1: the market goes Devers, I'd be pretty surprised if he's moved.
- 13:20Speaker 2: It seems like the.
- 13:20Speaker 1: Giants are wanting to keep him and he's been He's
- 13:22Speaker 1: been much better for them, although the strikeout ray for
- 13:25Speaker 1: him has been really not ideal as far as the
- 13:27Speaker 1: season goes Schooble, I still think if the Tigers are
- 13:30Speaker 1: out of this thing, that it would really behoove them
- 13:33Speaker 1: to move him and end up getting a good amount.
- 13:35Speaker 2: Return because they could.
- 13:36Speaker 1: They could easily get two top one hundred prospects for
- 13:38Speaker 1: Glex schoobl despite him being a rental. It's very rare
- 13:41Speaker 1: a picture of that caliber becomes available. And if you
- 13:44Speaker 1: can add him, let's say you're the Dodgers or you're Philadelphia,
- 13:47Speaker 1: which I don't think Philly is the most likely, but
- 13:49Speaker 1: if you're the Brewers, the Rays, like a bunch of
- 13:51Speaker 1: these other teams, if you can add Schooble, you instantly
- 13:55Speaker 1: make your World Series chances significantly better. So I still
- 13:58Speaker 1: think I think there's a better chance, and not that
- 14:00Speaker 1: he's moved, but it all depends on where the Tigers
- 14:02Speaker 1: go from here. He's obviously back already five weeks after
- 14:05Speaker 1: his injury, which is just totally remarkable to me.
- 14:08Speaker 2: I think a Josh Hater type makes plenty of sense. CJ.
- 14:12Speaker 1: Abrams could make some sense too. He is someone who
- 14:15Speaker 1: the Nationals have I think listened. I think that's a
- 14:18Speaker 1: very fair thing to say, because they had the Giants
- 14:21Speaker 1: come calling him or calling about him in the off season,
- 14:23Speaker 1: but they placed a very high asking price on him
- 14:26Speaker 1: and there was no real urgent. There was no urgency
- 14:29Speaker 1: whatsoever to move Abrams from the Nationals perspective. But if
- 14:32Speaker 1: they listen again and they get an offer where that's
- 14:36Speaker 1: comparable to how they felt about the Mackenzie Gore trade,
- 14:39Speaker 1: maybe they can end up pulling the trigger on that.
- 14:41Speaker 1: So those are the names that I'm watching for. But
- 14:43Speaker 1: I'm I think this year, I don't know if there's
- 14:47Speaker 1: gonna be like that holy crap moment where all of
- 14:50Speaker 1: a sudden Devors is being traded to the Giants and
- 14:53Speaker 1: very few people saw that coming at that time. But
- 14:56Speaker 1: I still think there's gonna be plenty of movement here
- 14:58Speaker 1: because there's there's a decent amount of sellers. There's going
- 15:02Speaker 1: to be some pretty aggressive buyers here, especially teams who
- 15:05Speaker 1: are trying to catch the Dodgers or the Giant the
- 15:07Speaker 1: Dodgers trying to repeat. So I think it's going to
- 15:09Speaker 1: be very active, but most of the movement is going
- 15:11Speaker 1: to come after the All Star break and then leading
- 15:13Speaker 1: up to August third.
- 15:13Speaker 2: There.
- 15:14Speaker 4: Support for today's episode comes from Square, and they've got
- 15:17Speaker 4: big news. During squares biannual Releases event, they launched a
- 15:20Speaker 4: wave of innovative new tools to help local businesses run faster, smarter,
- 15:24Speaker 4: and more profitably. Square is awesome. Around Orlando, where AJ
- 15:28Speaker 4: and I live, we go to the farmers' markets around town.
- 15:30Speaker 4: I go to the one near Lake Iola. It's awesome.
- 15:33Speaker 4: I use Square to pay with my phone. I get
- 15:35Speaker 4: the receipt right away.
- 15:36Speaker 2: It's great.
- 15:36Speaker 5: And so many businesses, not just small businesses, uses.
- 15:39Speaker 6: So many restaurants and businesses I walk into, not only
- 15:41Speaker 6: in Orlando, but all over the country have these and
- 15:44Speaker 6: you just use your credit card, pops out a receipt,
- 15:47Speaker 6: emails it right to you. It's so fast, it's so efficient,
- 15:50Speaker 6: it's so hassle free. It's one of the great things
- 15:52Speaker 6: that you have going.
- 15:54Speaker 4: Square launched its most powerful tools yet designed to give
- 15:57Speaker 4: local businesses a competitive edge without the complexity. If you're
- 16:00Speaker 4: ready to sell smarter, run faster, and stress less right now,
- 16:02Speaker 4: you can get up to two hundred dollars off Square
- 16:04Speaker 4: hardware at Square dot com slash go slash foul. That's
- 16:08Speaker 4: Square dot com slash go slash foul. Run your business
- 16:12Speaker 4: smarter with Square.
- 16:13Speaker 2: Get started today.
- 16:15Speaker 3: So let me ask you this. The Yankees have a
- 16:17Speaker 3: guy on their roster who's going to be a free agent,
- 16:20Speaker 3: and it's not unheard of for them to deal a
- 16:23Speaker 3: guy who's going to be a free agent, even if
- 16:24Speaker 3: they're in the race jazz chislm. Is there any interest
- 16:27Speaker 3: out there in jazz Because if the Yankees are trying
- 16:29Speaker 3: to reconfigure things, maybe get a little bit more right handed,
- 16:33Speaker 3: you know, maybe get a little bit more contact oriented,
- 16:35Speaker 3: Maybe get someone for get, you know, get a piece
- 16:38Speaker 3: back for someone there who they're probably not going to
- 16:40Speaker 3: re sign. Is there any interest out there in a
- 16:42Speaker 3: jazz chism.
- 16:42Speaker 1: Market they should be like, obviously, he's a very he's
- 16:47Speaker 1: a polarizing guy, he's super talented, but he's someone who
- 16:52Speaker 1: if you add him, I think it makes a team
- 16:55Speaker 1: a whole lot better. If I'm the Yankees, though I don't,
- 16:57Speaker 1: I don't mess with that. I keep him on roster.
- 17:00Speaker 1: I try to continue to add on a roster, but
- 17:02Speaker 1: I could absolutely see teams trying to call and see
- 17:05Speaker 1: what they can see what it would take to get
- 17:07Speaker 1: a guy like jazz Chism, for sure, because there's no
- 17:09Speaker 1: clear like elite options at that point. I mean, maybe
- 17:13Speaker 1: an Abrams type, But if you're trying to add a
- 17:15Speaker 1: bat who's got some pop, I think that'd make a
- 17:17Speaker 1: whole lot of sense there for sure. So but I'd
- 17:19Speaker 1: be pretty surprised if he's moved. Obviously they have a
- 17:22Speaker 1: history or oldest Chapman when they ended up moving him
- 17:23Speaker 1: and then brought him back, So there's there's precedent there
- 17:26Speaker 1: for sure, But I think that one would be a
- 17:28Speaker 1: case where that's getting a little too cute. So my
- 17:31Speaker 1: guess is that they keep jazz Chism, they try to
- 17:33Speaker 1: add in some other areas there as like the positions
- 17:37Speaker 1: that we've mentioned before catcher, bullpen or shortstop or wherever else.
- 17:42Speaker 1: I expect them to be plenty active, and this is
- 17:45Speaker 1: a season where if I'm Brian Cashman, I try to
- 17:48Speaker 1: be aggressive on the market because there's no if you
- 17:50Speaker 1: look at the American League, I mean Obviously, the Guardians
- 17:53Speaker 1: have been good, White Sox have been good. They've been good,
- 17:56Speaker 1: the Rays have been good. But besides that, that's a
- 17:58Speaker 1: very winnable American leg I'm if I'm Cashman, this is
- 18:01Speaker 1: the year. I'm going all out. I'm trying to add
- 18:05Speaker 1: at the deadline, and I'm trying to give my best
- 18:07Speaker 1: shot at the Dodgers and try to dethrown them and
- 18:09Speaker 1: win the World Series before this. This a lockout, that's crazy,
- 18:12Speaker 1: this ends up happening.
- 18:14Speaker 3: I agree with you one thousand percent. This is probably
- 18:16Speaker 3: the most winnable American league, the weakest American league that
- 18:20Speaker 3: we've had in decades, decades, and that includes the year
- 18:23Speaker 3: that the Yankees went to the World Series with a
- 18:25Speaker 3: nice easy path in twenty twenty four only to get
- 18:29Speaker 3: you know, shell ACKed by the Dodgers there in five games.
- 18:32Speaker 3: But you know, hey, it is what it is. Well,
- 18:34Speaker 3: we're not bitter, but I feel like Cashman does need
- 18:38Speaker 3: to be aggressive. Are there any other shortstops out there
- 18:40Speaker 3: that come to mind that maybe, I mean, beyond CJ. Abrams,
- 18:43Speaker 3: somebody who can maybe help the Yankees, even if it's
- 18:45Speaker 3: you know, role player type.
- 18:47Speaker 1: You know, I've been thinking about this like Jeremy Pania's
- 18:51Speaker 1: not going anywhere. I mean, maybe like he's a utility guy,
- 18:54Speaker 1: but maybe like a Willie Castro could end up being
- 18:56Speaker 1: a guy who's moved. But I was I was thinking
- 18:59Speaker 1: of about this is I don't know if any like
- 19:03Speaker 1: clear maybe a Joy Ortiz type with Milwaukee where he's
- 19:06Speaker 1: really struggled with them, he's got positional versatility in the infield,
- 19:10Speaker 1: maybe a change of scenery candidate. So I mean, but
- 19:13Speaker 1: besides that, I don't know if there's like a definitive,
- 19:16Speaker 1: proven guy who can end.
- 19:17Speaker 2: Up being available.
- 19:18Speaker 1: Well, a lot can change between now in August third.
- 19:21Speaker 1: There's a lot of a lot of these teams are
- 19:23Speaker 1: bunched up, and there's always a chance where one of
- 19:25Speaker 1: these teams who's on the fringe see is an opportunity
- 19:28Speaker 1: where hey, maybe we can end up selling get some
- 19:31Speaker 1: real strong value and possibly add as well. So maybe
- 19:34Speaker 1: that could end up opening up a position or opening
- 19:36Speaker 1: up a shortstop that's available that not many people see coming.
- 19:40Speaker 1: But still at this point, I don't see a ton
- 19:43Speaker 1: of options there.
- 19:44Speaker 3: At this point, I just want to end this podcast
- 19:47Speaker 3: by having a little gripe And since you've got a voice,
- 19:50Speaker 3: in the industry and maybe even connections at Major League Baseball.
- 19:52Speaker 3: I want to just bring this out. I think they
- 19:55Speaker 3: should go back to the midnight trade deadline. That was
- 19:57Speaker 3: way more fun, because look, people make bad decisions at
- 20:01Speaker 3: eleven fifty nine PM. At four o'clock is not as exciting,
- 20:05Speaker 3: you know where it's the workday. You can't stay up
- 20:07Speaker 3: and watch it. I get there's there's something special about,
- 20:10Speaker 3: you know, having that you know, eleven thirty pm coffee
- 20:14Speaker 3: because you want to you want to watch the trades
- 20:16Speaker 3: that come in getting Cecil Fielder at eleven fifty eight on,
- 20:19Speaker 3: you know, in nineteen ninety six, and I mean that
- 20:21Speaker 3: was amazing. I go back to that and and and
- 20:23Speaker 3: those memories can't be replaced. But I think they should
- 20:25Speaker 3: go back to midnight trade deadline.
- 20:27Speaker 1: No, I'm glad that they don't do that anymore because
- 20:30Speaker 1: I'm a guy who loves going to a better early
- 20:32Speaker 1: and that's caused me to miss some legit scoops like
- 20:35Speaker 1: I've missed. The worst one I've ever missed while I
- 20:37Speaker 1: was sleeping was one of the Carlos career deals. I
- 20:39Speaker 1: can't remember if it was the met Steel or the
- 20:41Speaker 1: Giant Steel but that waking up and seeing that text
- 20:44Speaker 1: and then seeing when everybody else broke it like.
- 20:46Speaker 2: That, that hurt bad.
- 20:47Speaker 1: But that this offseason, the craziness that happened there where
- 20:51Speaker 1: like Kyle Tucker signed late in the night with the Dodgers. Uh,
- 20:55Speaker 1: and then the madness where real Mudo seemed like he
- 20:58Speaker 1: was getting close and then bashett I thought he was
- 21:00Speaker 1: going to Philadelphia that like right after Tucker, I thought,
- 21:03Speaker 1: oh man, I legit had my tweet drafted. That's how
- 21:06Speaker 1: close it was. And then the Mets swooped in and
- 21:09Speaker 1: had it and got the deal done, which total credit
- 21:12Speaker 1: to them. But it seems like at least in the
- 21:14Speaker 1: off season, a lot of things happened late at night.
- 21:17Speaker 1: So thank goodness the trade deadline. I can go to
- 21:20Speaker 1: bed early that night. I can have a nice glass
- 21:23Speaker 1: of something.
- 21:28Speaker 2: For sure. It's always good.
- 21:30Speaker 3: Well, Robert Murray, thanks so much for joining. Everybody follow
- 21:35Speaker 3: by Robert Murray, and I'm sure you'll be active. Here's
- 21:37Speaker 3: too many many deals broken this deadline. Thanks for joining. Man,
- 21:41Speaker 3: appreciate it.
- 21:42Speaker 2: I appreciate you. Thank you so much for having me
