- 0:00Speaker 1: The Woody Show. And since it is a throwback Thursday,
- 0:11Speaker 1: I got something here. You know, the beginning of the
- 0:13Speaker 1: nineties was thirty five years ago. No way, that's a lie,
- 0:17Speaker 1: and life was a lot different back then. This is
- 0:19Speaker 1: one of those people where asks things where they asked
- 0:22Speaker 1: a question, what's something that was socially acceptable in the
- 0:25Speaker 1: nineties but not today? Good question, not being reachable? It
- 0:31Speaker 1: was a very common answer.
- 0:33Speaker 2: True, yeah, like you just weren't.
- 0:35Speaker 3: If you text somebody and you don't get a response
- 0:37Speaker 3: in ten minutes, they freak out.
- 0:39Speaker 1: I saw this thing and this guy I think he's
- 0:41Speaker 1: in the Netherlands. He works for a US company, a
- 0:45Speaker 1: US based company, but they have an office in the Netherlands,
- 0:47Speaker 1: and so I guess in the Netherlands, like at five o'clock,
- 0:51Speaker 1: people log off and they don't log back on or
- 0:53Speaker 1: check work emails or about un till nine am the
- 0:55Speaker 1: next day. They're not available after five pm on a Friday.
- 0:58Speaker 1: Next time you're gonna hear from them Monday at nine
- 1:02Speaker 1: there was there was this new manager, US based manager
- 1:06Speaker 1: that was hitting this guy up and he was upset
- 1:08Speaker 1: because he wasn't available. The guy the Netherlands wasn't available
- 1:13Speaker 1: for a like one of those like team building Zoom,
- 1:19Speaker 1: and it was at one pm New York time, but
- 1:22Speaker 1: it was like, I forget what time it was seven
- 1:25Speaker 1: six or seven o'clock, you know in the Netherlands, whatever
- 1:28Speaker 1: the time difference is. So he wasn't on it. He goes, well,
- 1:32Speaker 1: you know, we really need you to, you know, have
- 1:35Speaker 1: more of like whatever goes attitude and blah blah blah
- 1:38Speaker 1: blah blah. And he's like, no, many, I don't think
- 1:39Speaker 1: you understand how it works here. And he's just trying
- 1:42Speaker 1: to explain, you know, we see it as if you
- 1:45Speaker 1: are doing things after hours, it just means that you're
- 1:48Speaker 1: not being efficient with your time while you're at work
- 1:50Speaker 1: like that, and it also means that you don't have
- 1:52Speaker 1: good time management. And I'm neither one of those things. Interesting,
- 1:56Speaker 1: and the guy didn't like that answer, and so he
- 1:59Speaker 1: sent like some you know things like hey, well, if
- 2:01Speaker 1: you're looking to get ahead in the company and blah
- 2:03Speaker 1: blah blah blah blah, this is the mindset you're gonna
- 2:05Speaker 1: have to have. And so he gave that to his
- 2:07Speaker 1: Netherlands based HR department for the company, and they like
- 2:13Speaker 1: slap this guy's wrist and he's not fired or anything.
- 2:16Speaker 1: But they, dude, there are different there are different labor
- 2:19Speaker 1: laws here. Yeah, and so you can't be basically threatening
- 2:21Speaker 1: this guy. I'm saying that if he doesn't answer your
- 2:23Speaker 1: emails on Saturday or doesn't show up to your team's
- 2:26Speaker 1: meeting at you know, after hours for the net like
- 2:29Speaker 1: he's here in the Netherlands, he's not in the States.
- 2:33Speaker 4: Like people try to have that attitude in America. Yeah,
- 2:37Speaker 4: in in the workplace, and it just doesn't fly. Here's
- 2:40Speaker 4: the thing me personally, I don't have that attitude. I'm
- 2:44Speaker 4: not a punching at you know whatever, time, clock out, whatever,
- 2:47Speaker 4: and you can't reach me otherwise.
- 2:49Speaker 1: I'm not that person. I've never been that person. I
- 2:52Speaker 1: do feel that it is beneficial. Could you do it? Yeah?
- 2:55Speaker 1: Do I think you should do that? Probably not exactly,
- 2:58Speaker 1: not not the way that most business is. Well, then
- 3:01Speaker 1: not consider you for any things down the road, because
- 3:03Speaker 1: they want somebody who is quote.
- 3:05Speaker 2: All in or you know, like legally can you do that? Sure?
- 3:08Speaker 1: Legally?
- 3:08Speaker 2: Do you look like a douche pretty much? Right?
- 3:11Speaker 1: Exactly?
- 3:11Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 3:11Speaker 1: Well, the minute I leave here, I'm not opening up
- 3:14Speaker 1: forget it.
- 3:15Speaker 4: Like yesterday they asked me, like, hey, we really need
- 3:18Speaker 4: you to record this commercial. I was at home in bed,
- 3:22Speaker 4: and I go and I don't have my home studio
- 3:24Speaker 4: setup because I'm moving, So I drove back here recorded it, yeah,
- 3:28Speaker 4: and then drove back home.
- 3:29Speaker 2: But I don't I.
- 3:29Speaker 1: Don't necessarily fault the people who are that way, because
- 3:33Speaker 1: you're right, and this the other point this guy was
- 3:35Speaker 1: making is like, hey, I'm compensated for forty hours a week.
- 3:38Speaker 1: I do the forty hours. I do what I'm supposed
- 3:41Speaker 1: to do. I'm meeting my deadlines or whatever. I don't
- 3:43Speaker 1: know what the business is. I'm meeting my deadlines. Like
- 3:47Speaker 1: what I'm I'm holding up my end.
- 3:49Speaker 2: Of the agreement.
- 3:50Speaker 1: Okay, that's that's that's fair enough. Now, I'm not going
- 3:53Speaker 1: to feel bad for him if he does get passed
- 3:54Speaker 1: over for things because they have their own things or
- 3:58Speaker 1: criteria that whether what they're considering. Fine, but you can't
- 4:01Speaker 1: you know, you can't complain at that point. But they
- 4:04Speaker 1: also they also can't complain if you decide that you're
- 4:06Speaker 1: just gonna do what you are, you know, to the
- 4:08Speaker 1: penny of what you're competated for anyway, So not being reachable.
- 4:12Speaker 1: Back to the original thing. What's something that was socially
- 4:14Speaker 1: acceptable in the nineties but not today, Just not being reachable.
- 4:17Speaker 1: Leaving kids in the car while you went grocery shopping.
- 4:20Speaker 4: Oh my god, we left in the car.
- 4:22Speaker 1: Oh yeah, oh yeah, lived in that car.
- 4:27Speaker 5: Yeah, I would get worried my mom would be in
- 4:29Speaker 5: the store for so long.
- 4:30Speaker 1: I'm like, yes, if you remember, that's what happened to
- 4:32Speaker 1: Punky Burster, Like mom went into the grocery store and
- 4:35Speaker 1: never came back out. Yeah, Punky, you had to go
- 4:39Speaker 1: live with Henry Warnamon.
- 4:40Speaker 4: I forgot that part. Did her mom died or she just.
- 4:42Speaker 1: No, she took off her at the grocery store.
- 4:46Speaker 4: No, we used to do.
- 4:47Speaker 6: My brother and I used to think horrible that. I
- 4:49Speaker 6: don't think I was. We were the only kids who
- 4:50Speaker 6: did this, And now I would. I feel so bad
- 4:52Speaker 6: just thinking about it. But let's when mom gets back,
- 4:55Speaker 6: Let's have everything turned up, the air conditioner, the radio.
- 4:58Speaker 7: The car.
- 4:59Speaker 5: That one time, me and my sister were in the
- 5:04Speaker 5: car when my mom was in the grocery store and
- 5:05Speaker 5: we thought, like, she's taking forever. We're going to go
- 5:08Speaker 5: in and find her. As soon as we went to
- 5:10Speaker 5: open the door, the alarm started going off to the car,
- 5:13Speaker 5: and then we just hid the rest of the time
- 5:14Speaker 5: with the alarm going off.
- 5:16Speaker 1: Socially acceptable in the nineties, not so much today. Showing
- 5:19Speaker 1: up at someone's house unannounced to hang out. Oh I'd dreaming.
- 5:24Speaker 1: Smoking in a restaurant. There were still anywhere smoking. You're
- 5:27Speaker 1: not smoking. You get that question when you walk in smoking,
- 5:29Speaker 1: You're not smoking.
- 5:30Speaker 2: Haven't heard that in what twenty five years?
- 5:32Speaker 1: How about hiring ten year olds the babysit Oh.
- 5:35Speaker 6: My god, they were always only like two years older
- 5:37Speaker 6: than you.
- 5:39Speaker 5: Babysitting at ten.
- 5:40Speaker 1: Yeah, because I remember when you know, we were kids,
- 5:42Speaker 1: when I was a kid. You know, a lot of
- 5:44Speaker 1: the girls like in my class, when we were like
- 5:47Speaker 1: eleven twelve, ten eleven twelve, like they started getting babysitting jobs.
- 5:50Speaker 6: Oh yeah, made like three dollars an hour.
- 5:52Speaker 1: Oh yeah, yeah, making plans with someone multiple days in advance,
- 5:56Speaker 1: not talking to them about it again, and just showing
- 5:59Speaker 1: up without having to con firm the plans were still on.
- 6:01Speaker 1: Can you imagine what something socially acceptable in the nineties
- 6:05Speaker 1: been not so much today. Mooning people that was just fun,
- 6:10Speaker 1: a list, Yeah, a road trip in the back seat.
- 6:14Speaker 1: You end up on some kind of like watch list,
- 6:16Speaker 1: the sexual offenders list. We used to going by pressed
- 6:23Speaker 1: hand up against them, fun and I'll give you one more.
- 6:26Speaker 1: This has brought up a number of times. There were
- 6:28Speaker 1: even those announcements on the television right before the late
- 6:30Speaker 1: news would start, like it's eleven o'clock. Do you know
- 6:32Speaker 1: where your kids are? Yeah, not having any idea where
- 6:35Speaker 1: kids were because you get home from school. It wasn't
- 6:38Speaker 1: like there were cell phones or ways to check in.
- 6:40Speaker 1: No I would. I would come home, let myself in
- 6:42Speaker 1: the house, drop up my backpack, out the door. I went,
- 6:45Speaker 1: and you didn't see me until dark. Well that's gone.
- 6:48Speaker 6: You were a latchkey kid.
- 6:49Speaker 4: I was a latchkey kid. You just let yourself in.
- 6:51Speaker 1: But even still, the parents who were at home like
- 6:54Speaker 1: to stay at home, moms and stuff. At the time,
- 6:55Speaker 1: my friend's parents like we would just be out and
- 6:58Speaker 1: they didn't know where we were going. We're going out today,
- 7:02Speaker 1: We're gonna go play football and then because then you
- 7:04Speaker 1: played football for maybe like forty five minutes, then it'll
- 7:07Speaker 1: be onto something else and then up to somebody else's
- 7:09Speaker 1: house made to play video games. But like your parents
- 7:11Speaker 1: didn't know that you went over to so and so's
- 7:13Speaker 1: house to play video games.
- 7:14Speaker 2: You just went.
- 7:14Speaker 1: Yeah, they don't care.
- 7:15Speaker 4: We would ride our bikes to like two cities over.
- 7:18Speaker 1: Yeah, oh yeah a Coketo.
- 7:22Speaker 2: Woodie.
- 7:28Speaker 1: Well, for the first time here in the new year
- 7:31Speaker 1: and with great purpose, today we bring you Rich Timiro.
- 7:36Speaker 1: He's a tech reporter, he's got a radio show, he's
- 7:40Speaker 1: got a TV presence that he does. He's the official
- 7:44Speaker 1: tech correspondent for not just The Woodie Show, but for
- 7:46Speaker 1: KTLA Television in Los Angeles. The rich on Tech radio
- 7:50Speaker 1: show is heard coast to coast everyone a ton of stations.
- 7:54Speaker 4: You could also.
- 7:55Speaker 1: Subscribe to Rich's free newsletter at rich on Tech dot
- 7:59Speaker 1: t find him on social media at rich on Tech.
- 8:03Speaker 1: Ladies and gentlemen, I give you rich on Tech.
- 8:08Speaker 8: Wow, that was quite the intro.
- 8:10Speaker 2: Thank you.
- 8:10Speaker 8: I'm how much you from Las Vegas?
- 8:12Speaker 9: Yes, looking at the sphere which is always glowing with
- 8:17Speaker 9: something quite wild, illuminating my room all night long.
- 8:21Speaker 1: Yeah, Well, happy New Year. How was your was your break?
- 8:23Speaker 1: Do you do anything cool?
- 8:25Speaker 9: I went to New Jersey, where I'm from, and my
- 8:27Speaker 9: kids hit the vacation lottery because it snowed not once,
- 8:31Speaker 9: but twice, and they were just loving it, soling, that's
- 8:35Speaker 9: cool it.
- 8:37Speaker 1: Gina went to Minnesota for her her in laws and
- 8:40Speaker 1: there was adult sledding that happened there too. That sounds
- 8:43Speaker 1: like that would involve a cocktail. But yes, right, but
- 8:47Speaker 1: back fun right right back at now. What we love
- 8:49Speaker 1: about Rich be I just being a super nice guy
- 8:51Speaker 1: and super helpful when it comes to all this tech
- 8:53Speaker 1: stuff is that it's a it's very approachable. It's a
- 8:55Speaker 1: it's consumer tech. It's not like the stuff that you
- 8:58Speaker 1: get like when tech guys get together and talk amongst
- 9:01Speaker 1: each other, like.
- 9:01Speaker 4: What driver do I need for it? This is?
- 9:03Speaker 8: This is this is what's the refresh rate on that TV? This?
- 9:07Speaker 1: This is stuff that we as just average people like
- 9:10Speaker 1: you know, who like technology, you like the things that
- 9:12Speaker 1: it can do for you, but just kind of getting
- 9:14Speaker 1: a real insight into it. And this is the super
- 9:17Speaker 1: Bowl of tech. The Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas.
- 9:20Speaker 1: I went one time, and as a guy who loves
- 9:22Speaker 1: all this stuff, I got admit I was kind of overwhelmed.
- 9:25Speaker 4: There's so much.
- 9:26Speaker 1: I didn't know where to start. I'm like, I'm sure
- 9:27Speaker 1: I'm missing out on something good and so you know,
- 9:30Speaker 1: Medicin and I were just kind of like wandering around
- 9:31Speaker 1: checking out different stuff. But what are you seeing there, Rich,
- 9:35Speaker 1: What do you like? What? What's some cool stuff to
- 9:37Speaker 1: look forward to?
- 9:38Speaker 9: Well, just to set it up, I mean, you did
- 9:40Speaker 9: explain how how massive this show is. It is huge
- 9:43Speaker 9: the convention center. It takes over the entire convention center,
- 9:46Speaker 9: but not just that, but also a lot of the hotels.
- 9:49Speaker 8: In the surrounding areas.
- 9:51Speaker 9: There's a Venetian, they have a big expo center there,
- 9:54Speaker 9: and then a lot of the suite companies that don't
- 9:56Speaker 9: even go to the show will rent out like a
- 9:58Speaker 9: giant suite and show off stuff there.
- 10:00Speaker 8: So it is massive.
- 10:02Speaker 9: It's impossible to see everything, probably over like four thousand exhibitors.
- 10:06Speaker 2: Wow.
- 10:06Speaker 9: But I go to a lot of the events. I
- 10:08Speaker 9: wander the floor all day long. I did like twenty
- 10:10Speaker 9: two thousand steps yesterday. You know, looking for this stuff,
- 10:14Speaker 9: you know, the TVs and all that stuff kind of
- 10:15Speaker 9: grab your attention, But I'm looking for the little things
- 10:18Speaker 9: that you know every day people are going to use.
- 10:20Speaker 9: So here's some interesting ones. Let's start with. You want
- 10:23Speaker 9: to start with the weirdest thing that I saw?
- 10:25Speaker 3: There's something that I think you saw that I with
- 10:28Speaker 3: absolutely no exaggeration, no hyperbole, I have dreamt about my
- 10:34Speaker 3: entire life.
- 10:35Speaker 1: Can I guess what it is?
- 10:36Speaker 2: Yes?
- 10:36Speaker 1: Okay, so I did see something about this, this smart
- 10:39Speaker 1: hair clipper. Yes? Is that it?
- 10:41Speaker 2: I know? I thought this would never be a real
- 10:46Speaker 2: Is that real?
- 10:47Speaker 7: Rich?
- 10:47Speaker 1: Tell us about this? It's like an AI guided hair clipper, right,
- 10:50Speaker 1: tell us about it?
- 10:51Speaker 8: So funny.
- 10:52Speaker 9: I almost started with that one because that is okay.
- 10:54Speaker 9: When I was a kid, remember those commercials on TV
- 10:57Speaker 9: the flow be yes, yes, and they were this kind
- 11:00Speaker 9: of like the AI equivalent of that. So it looks
- 11:02Speaker 9: like a hair clipper, but it's got this like guide
- 11:04Speaker 9: on it that is AI, I guess helpful. So the
- 11:08Speaker 9: guide actually adjusts as you run this thing up and
- 11:11Speaker 9: down your head, and the AI keeps it at different
- 11:14Speaker 9: lengths so you can get like the perfect pace.
- 11:16Speaker 2: Constantly kind of going up and down or whatever.
- 11:18Speaker 1: Yes, if it's like shorter on the sides of the
- 11:20Speaker 1: and then it gets to the top of your your
- 11:21Speaker 1: haircut short on the sides on the on the side,
- 11:25Speaker 1: but on the top, there's a little bit more likely
- 11:26Speaker 1: they would know to adjust itself.
- 11:28Speaker 4: Interesting.
- 11:29Speaker 1: What, Yeah, this is greg because I'm about to pass out.
- 11:33Speaker 1: How often do you get your hair cut?
- 11:35Speaker 3: Preferably once a week, once a week, but usually like
- 11:40Speaker 3: every two weeks.
- 11:42Speaker 8: Guy that would trim his hair all the time.
- 11:45Speaker 2: You know.
- 11:45Speaker 9: I saw this in action, and honestly I was tempted
- 11:48Speaker 9: to have them try it on me because I could
- 11:51Speaker 9: use a cleanup, and I was like, what do I
- 11:53Speaker 9: have to lose? It kind of be a fun story,
- 11:54Speaker 9: but they weren't doing it that night, so yeah, we'll see.
- 11:58Speaker 9: I may go back to the booth. But yeah, this
- 11:59Speaker 9: is AI guide it It's called glide and ID if.
- 12:04Speaker 2: You want to look it up.
- 12:05Speaker 3: Yeah, is it kind of I'm excited When you go
- 12:07Speaker 3: to a car show they have concept cars. Is this
- 12:09Speaker 3: a real thing that's available now or is this a
- 12:11Speaker 3: tease of what's to come?
- 12:13Speaker 8: This is supposed well.
- 12:14Speaker 9: Nailing down whether these things are real or coming out
- 12:18Speaker 9: is always tricky with these companies.
- 12:19Speaker 7: They always say I have a launch day, and then
- 12:21Speaker 7: sometimes it gets to push back. I am on their website,
- 12:24Speaker 7: it's smarthair clipper dot com.
- 12:27Speaker 1: Smart hairclipper dot com. You want to check it out
- 12:29Speaker 1: and sold? What else?
- 12:30Speaker 8: Rich?
- 12:30Speaker 1: What else do we need to know?
- 12:31Speaker 9: About Oh, this is interesting this VVU. This is a
- 12:35Speaker 9: device you put in your toilet and it tests your
- 12:39Speaker 9: urine every time for hydration and wellness.
- 12:44Speaker 6: That's fascinating is the diversion that tests for drugs.
- 12:48Speaker 9: I asked if they're going to test for more stuff
- 12:49Speaker 9: in the future. She said absolutely. So this is one
- 12:52Speaker 9: hundred dollars. You know, it's supposed as opposed to test strips.
- 12:55Speaker 9: They say that hydration is such a big part of life,
- 12:58Speaker 9: and it's you know, a big part of a wellness marker.
- 13:01Speaker 9: So I just thought it was interesting that you would
- 13:03Speaker 9: have that you're so obsessed with your hydration that you
- 13:05Speaker 9: would put this thing in your toy.
- 13:06Speaker 1: We have somebody here on the Woody showed Gina Grad
- 13:09Speaker 1: who was dehydrated to the point where she had a
- 13:11Speaker 1: seizure and passed down her bathroom had to be taken
- 13:13Speaker 1: to the hospital via ambulance over the holiday break.
- 13:16Speaker 6: So I'd very much like to know without having to
- 13:18Speaker 6: pee in a cup at a doctor's office, if I'm
- 13:20Speaker 6: fully hydrated.
- 13:21Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 13:21Speaker 9: I just thought, you look at the color. It's like,
- 13:23Speaker 9: if it's bright, yeah, right, okay.
- 13:25Speaker 1: If it's pale, that's good.
- 13:26Speaker 6: I saw something that I'm dying to know if you
- 13:28Speaker 6: taste tested.
- 13:30Speaker 4: Did you see the lollipop Star?
- 13:32Speaker 9: Oh my gosh, Okay, I was trying it this morning
- 13:34Speaker 9: because they gave me a bunch of them.
- 13:36Speaker 8: Oh lucky. This thing is so crazy.
- 13:39Speaker 9: Okay, if you're not familiar, Lollipop Star is basically a
- 13:42Speaker 9: lollipop that plays music.
- 13:44Speaker 8: In your mouth when you suck on it.
- 13:47Speaker 1: It uses like a bone induction technology.
- 13:50Speaker 8: Yes, what yeah, bone conduction, So conduction.
- 13:53Speaker 9: Basically, it was a little tiny electronics in the base
- 13:57Speaker 9: of it, and then it looks like a regular lollipop.
- 13:59Speaker 8: I got the I think of a salted lime.
- 14:01Speaker 9: And you suck on this thing and as you're you know,
- 14:05Speaker 9: nothing to do with the sucking, but it just as
- 14:06Speaker 9: your teeth are on this, they vibrate your bones and
- 14:10Speaker 9: make you hear this music.
- 14:11Speaker 8: And it really works.
- 14:13Speaker 1: Okay, let's talk about something actually useful. And I did
- 14:16Speaker 1: see that you would post this again. You can find
- 14:18Speaker 1: a rich on social media at rich on tech and
- 14:21Speaker 1: it's this stair climbing robot vacuum.
- 14:25Speaker 4: Who blowing up on all the tech.
- 14:27Speaker 1: Yeah, and I keep saying, like I'm not just Rich
- 14:30Speaker 1: talking about but like this seems to be getting a
- 14:32Speaker 1: lot of attention there at the Consumer Electronic Show.
- 14:35Speaker 4: And there's multiple versions, right.
- 14:36Speaker 9: Yeah, there's a bunch of a bunch of companies working
- 14:39Speaker 9: on this. This is probably the most trending video on
- 14:42Speaker 9: my Instagram at rich on Tech right now.
- 14:44Speaker 8: I've just been posting a ton of stuff. But this
- 14:46Speaker 8: is Dream d r E a m E.
- 14:49Speaker 9: They're a pretty well known maker of vacuums and robotics stuff.
- 14:54Speaker 9: But yeah, they have this bionic quad track vacuum cleaner
- 14:57Speaker 9: that climb stairs.
- 14:58Speaker 8: But here's the deal. It's still a prototype.
- 15:01Speaker 9: It doesn't use wheels, it uses like these tracks. It
- 15:04Speaker 9: almost looks like like a tank, like the tracks underneath
- 15:08Speaker 9: the tank.
- 15:09Speaker 8: But here's the weird part.
- 15:10Speaker 9: It's got the standard room buck kind of like you know,
- 15:13Speaker 9: circular vacuum, but it goes into this like shell and
- 15:18Speaker 9: then the shell goes up the stairs and then it
- 15:21Speaker 9: goes down the stairs and it goes back out. So
- 15:23Speaker 9: it's like getting into like a little armored car almost
- 15:26Speaker 9: to go up the stairs.
- 15:27Speaker 1: Since we're talking this is a robot vacuum. Since we're
- 15:30Speaker 1: talking robots just in general.
- 15:32Speaker 2: Here.
- 15:33Speaker 1: I posted a comment on one of your videos and
- 15:36Speaker 1: it was a it was a robot like one of
- 15:39Speaker 1: the you know, the things is going to eventually.
- 15:41Speaker 4: Kill us humanoid and it was showing.
- 15:43Speaker 1: It was showing it like shadow boxing and stuff, and
- 15:46Speaker 1: I go, why are we teaching these things to fight?
- 15:50Speaker 4: Question?
- 15:51Speaker 8: I don't know, But.
- 15:53Speaker 1: Like, okay, fold laundry great, because there is another thing too,
- 15:55Speaker 1: there's that folding that laundry folding robot.
- 15:58Speaker 2: Right.
- 15:58Speaker 9: I spent the I'm not kidding, I spent the entire
- 16:01Speaker 9: second half of the day yesterday just looking at robots
- 16:04Speaker 9: because they're so fun.
- 16:05Speaker 8: They had okay, they had.
- 16:07Speaker 9: Robots that are like a puppeteer, like puppet hands, puppet
- 16:10Speaker 9: robot hands doing like little robot puppets.
- 16:12Speaker 2: That's number one.
- 16:13Speaker 9: Okay, they had an entire chorus of robots. I'm talking
- 16:17Speaker 9: maybe three dozen robots sitting in chairs, all just moving
- 16:20Speaker 9: at the same time. That was number two. They had
- 16:24Speaker 9: the laundry folding robot. There's two of them. I saw
- 16:26Speaker 9: one is from Dina d y and A and I
- 16:29Speaker 9: watched it fold this towel. Now, it would have taken
- 16:32Speaker 9: a human like three seconds to fold. It took this
- 16:34Speaker 9: thing like a minute to figure out how to you know,
- 16:37Speaker 9: But they couldn't do it twenty.
- 16:38Speaker 8: Four hours a day.
- 16:39Speaker 1: But he was a thing like you walk you walk away.
- 16:42Speaker 1: That's like you could do all the dishes, that's right,
- 16:44Speaker 1: Like but Moore, you just throw them the dishwasher, walk away,
- 16:46Speaker 1: do your other things, come back and the dishes are done.
- 16:48Speaker 1: Same things like this can can take all your laundry,
- 16:50Speaker 1: fold it even if it takes longer. Who cares you
- 16:53Speaker 1: have to do it?
- 16:54Speaker 2: You can sit and watch TV.
- 16:55Speaker 1: Yeah, I saw the actually fighting robots as the see
- 16:58Speaker 1: why That's what I want to know, Like, what's the
- 17:00Speaker 1: one that you're getting menace? The one ex technology Richard
- 17:05Speaker 1: Menisa put the money in from one of those things.
- 17:07Speaker 1: He's getting one of those things. Uh Like, So it's
- 17:10Speaker 1: it's that type of robot that I'm talking about. Why
- 17:13Speaker 1: are we teaching those things to fight humansoid?
- 17:16Speaker 9: I don't even know why it would do that demo
- 17:19Speaker 9: because it's just like asking for trouble. Why showing this?
- 17:23Speaker 9: Why are we even why are even showing that We've
- 17:26Speaker 9: explained to these robots that we need to fight. You know,
- 17:28Speaker 9: there's gonna be a robot army that comes across and
- 17:31Speaker 9: just thousands of these things that come through the door,
- 17:34Speaker 9: and there is no hiding, there's no avoiding it.
- 17:37Speaker 8: We are done as a humans.
- 17:39Speaker 1: Uh. Talking about other stuff that is there at CEES,
- 17:43Speaker 1: you mentioned, you know, the TV seemed to get a
- 17:45Speaker 1: lot of the attention, like like attention grabbing kind of thing.
- 17:47Speaker 1: Is there anything that kind of stood out this year?
- 17:50Speaker 1: Like how much more can we do with televisions? Is
- 17:52Speaker 1: there something that stood out to you from the TV stuff?
- 17:55Speaker 1: You know, Well, there is one thing I saw.
- 17:57Speaker 9: I mean, obviously they all continue to get bigger and
- 18:00Speaker 9: lighter and you know, better contrast.
- 18:02Speaker 8: That's yeah, yeah, we've heard that forever.
- 18:04Speaker 9: What I think is interesting is actually AI is helping
- 18:07Speaker 9: people hear the dialogue better. I don't know if you've
- 18:10Speaker 9: ever been doing this for you watch a movie and
- 18:12Speaker 9: you're like what.
- 18:13Speaker 8: They just saying?
- 18:14Speaker 2: Yeah every day?
- 18:15Speaker 8: Yeah, what is up with that?
- 18:16Speaker 9: Like we figured out surround sound out the you know, gazoo,
- 18:20Speaker 9: but we can't figure out how to hear these people.
- 18:22Speaker 9: So AI can now separate the audio track from the
- 18:26Speaker 9: background and you can kind of turn that up so
- 18:28Speaker 9: you can hear people better. And I'm seeing that across
- 18:31Speaker 9: a bunch of different TVs, not just Ye, but.
- 18:33Speaker 7: Rich we're allowed to talk about it now because we're
- 18:36Speaker 7: under NDA. We have that secret meeting where we got
- 18:38Speaker 7: to see those new displays with TCL, because they have
- 18:43Speaker 7: so you're out of CES. You're going to hear all
- 18:46Speaker 7: these TV companies talk about RGB, which is red green blue,
- 18:50Speaker 7: but and the like the new age of red green
- 18:54Speaker 7: blue is the micro RGB. But TCL like jumped the
- 18:59Speaker 7: gun and now they're like going ahead of that, and
- 19:01Speaker 7: they're coming out with s QT, which is super quantum dots,
- 19:05Speaker 7: which is like ultra color.
- 19:07Speaker 1: Okay, so this is work. There's a disconnect, right yeah, yeah,
- 19:14Speaker 1: which is what which is just like high definition even
- 19:18Speaker 1: like even our higher definition.
- 19:20Speaker 7: And the reason that they can do that, because we've
- 19:22Speaker 7: talked about this before, because TCL versus all these other
- 19:25Speaker 7: companies that are already behind with r GB, is that
- 19:28Speaker 7: they have to buy parts from other companies, which TCL
- 19:31Speaker 7: can do. They make their own parts. Okay, so they're.
- 19:35Speaker 1: Able to advance like Space SpaceX is like three D
- 19:39Speaker 1: printing a lot of stuff they need for their rockets
- 19:41Speaker 1: and stuff right there and hawthorn at their at their facility.
- 19:44Speaker 2: Cool.
- 19:45Speaker 4: Yeah, so they're able to advance faster than anybody else.
- 19:48Speaker 9: Can I just try to explain TV technology and like
- 19:50Speaker 9: a little bit like what makes a TV better. Basically,
- 19:53Speaker 9: every TV is made up of like display pixels, right,
- 19:57Speaker 9: And so the more that you can illuminate those pixels
- 20:00Speaker 9: individually and with different colors, the better the picture is
- 20:04Speaker 9: going to look. Because let's say you have a picture
- 20:05Speaker 9: of just a moon. You don't want to see the
- 20:07Speaker 9: moon with like you know, clouding around the edges or
- 20:10Speaker 9: you know, bleeding the color out to the rest of
- 20:13Speaker 9: the screen. You want to see just that moon and
- 20:14Speaker 9: the rest of the screen is completely black. Right, So
- 20:17Speaker 9: the more pixels you have, the more control you have
- 20:20Speaker 9: over lighting them, the better your screen looks, the better
- 20:23Speaker 9: your picture looks. And that's really what all these manufacturers
- 20:26Speaker 9: are trying to do without going to o lead, which
- 20:28Speaker 9: is very expensive, and it's just you know, these companies
- 20:32Speaker 9: would rather use you know, the older technology that still works,
- 20:36Speaker 9: but it looks better depending on how you illuminate it.
- 20:39Speaker 1: And then moving on from television because I know we're
- 20:42Speaker 1: running out of time. Rich On Tech is on with us.
- 20:44Speaker 1: He is at CEES in Las Vegas checking out all
- 20:48Speaker 1: these different gadgets. I mean it is like, dude, this
- 20:51Speaker 1: is this is like getting to go to Wonkas chocolate
- 20:54Speaker 1: factory when you're in the tech and just seeing all
- 20:56Speaker 1: this stuff. So I'm really interested in finding, you know,
- 21:01Speaker 1: something I think I would get a lot of use
- 21:03Speaker 1: out of it. We always have to do these videos
- 21:04Speaker 1: for different things where the company here for advertisers or whatever,
- 21:07Speaker 1: and they always have all this you know, copy for
- 21:10Speaker 1: us to read and and do it looking directly into
- 21:13Speaker 1: the camera. And I keep seeing all these glasses that
- 21:15Speaker 1: have like teleprompter kind of features and stuff in it,
- 21:18Speaker 1: the smart glasses things like that. There seems to be
- 21:20Speaker 1: a ton of them out there. Rich, is there one
- 21:22Speaker 1: that you recommend, like one that looks like that doesn't
- 21:26Speaker 1: have to be sunglasses, I know, the ray band stuff,
- 21:28Speaker 1: but like that, just like just like regular you can
- 21:31Speaker 1: put a prescription in eyewear that also would have like
- 21:33Speaker 1: say that like sort of like teleprompter type of feature.
- 21:37Speaker 8: Yeah.
- 21:37Speaker 9: I tried out two pairs of these. Uh, and I'll
- 21:39Speaker 9: tell you what the problem is in a second. But
- 21:41Speaker 9: the market leader is clearly called Even Realities, So I yes, okay,
- 21:48Speaker 9: they are really good. They invented this whole genre of
- 21:51Speaker 9: the display glasses. And I tried the teleprompter yesterday and
- 21:55Speaker 9: it was easy to read. And the second version, by
- 21:57Speaker 9: the way, is way better than the first version of these.
- 22:00Speaker 9: They also came out with the smart rings so that
- 22:02Speaker 9: you can navigate on screen with your fingers. Rocket R
- 22:06Speaker 9: O k I D is another brand doing the same
- 22:08Speaker 9: exact thing. But here is the problem. And you know,
- 22:12Speaker 9: because the idea is I'd love to give a speech
- 22:14Speaker 9: where I can just read it off my glasses and
- 22:16Speaker 9: talking to an audience. That'd make life so much easier.
- 22:19Speaker 9: But here's the thing. When you move around, the screen
- 22:22Speaker 9: that you're looking at is also kind of jumping around
- 22:25Speaker 9: just by the natural movement of your body, and so
- 22:27Speaker 9: it was very distracting to me to try to read
- 22:30Speaker 9: off of this thing because you're you're just moving and
- 22:33Speaker 9: so still exactly when they can figure out how to
- 22:36Speaker 9: make this thing sort of float in front of you
- 22:38Speaker 9: instead of being locked into the lenses, I think that
- 22:41Speaker 9: is going to be a game changer for that technology.
- 22:44Speaker 1: Interesting, all right, So, but between the two even realities
- 22:47Speaker 1: and then the is it ro our Rocket R O
- 22:50Speaker 1: K I D. Which which one? Which one do you
- 22:52Speaker 1: like the best? Which one right now is the is
- 22:55Speaker 1: the better one?
- 22:56Speaker 9: Even realities, I think is the to me when I
- 22:59Speaker 9: try to both on even realities was easier to see.
- 23:02Speaker 9: But I think, you know, the rocket, I think, you know,
- 23:05Speaker 9: don't discount them just yet the same very early.
- 23:07Speaker 8: So which ones look sexier?
- 23:08Speaker 9: Right?
- 23:09Speaker 2: You know?
- 23:10Speaker 1: Which ones should you look hotterer?
- 23:11Speaker 9: And you know, yeah, I haven't gone through my video yet,
- 23:13Speaker 9: so I got to see which one I look sounds like.
- 23:15Speaker 3: Something that would be good for motorcycle riders for navigation,
- 23:18Speaker 3: you know, Oh yeah that'd be a good idea.
- 23:21Speaker 1: Yeah, well, rich, thank you, uh for getting into some
- 23:24Speaker 1: as I know, it's a it's very busy when CEES
- 23:26Speaker 1: is going on. The good thing is like you get
- 23:29Speaker 1: to go on I'm sure before the general public though, right,
- 23:31Speaker 1: like cause you get that kind of.
- 23:32Speaker 4: Yeah, you're like VIP right right, uh huh.
- 23:35Speaker 8: Yeah, we get like two days before the general kind
- 23:37Speaker 8: of because.
- 23:38Speaker 1: Then I saw they did it was essentially you know
- 23:41Speaker 1: they do the rope drop at the theme parks and
- 23:43Speaker 1: stuff and then everybody rushes they did that with the
- 23:45Speaker 1: public going into CEES and it was looked like a madhouse. Yeah,
- 23:50Speaker 1: it's very well intended, I mean very well at a
- 23:51Speaker 1: lot of cool stuff going on. Well rich on Tech.
- 23:54Speaker 1: Find them on social media at rich on Tech, and
- 23:57Speaker 1: check out his radio show. It's podcast and you can
- 23:59Speaker 1: find it on the iHeartRadio app. Also, you can subscribe
- 24:03Speaker 1: to your richest free newsletter at Richontech dot tv. Look
- 24:07Speaker 1: for him on television on k t L A Television
- 24:10Speaker 1: in Los Angeles.
- 24:12Speaker 8: Rich on Tech. Everybody, Thanks guys.
- 24:16Speaker 1: All right, dude, Happy New Year and we'll talk to
- 24:18Speaker 1: you next time.
- 24:19Speaker 8: Sounds good?
- 24:19Speaker 1: All right, is the Woody Show. We'll be right back.
- 24:22Speaker 1: The Woody Show, will be right back.
