- 0:00Speaker 1: Well from tonight, we know that Pajama is returning to
- 0:03Speaker 1: illuminate Alice Springs and it's going to be across two
- 0:07Speaker 1: venues this year, Alice Springs Desert Park and also the
- 0:10Speaker 1: Aralun Arts Center. And joining me on the line to
- 0:12Speaker 1: tell us a little bit more about what we can
- 0:14Speaker 1: expect to NT Major Events Company Director of Engagement, Paul Chee,
- 0:19Speaker 1: Good morning to you, PAULA great tell you on the show. Yeah,
- 0:23Speaker 1: really good, thank you. How are you guys going all
- 0:26Speaker 1: amped up for kickoff tonight?
- 0:29Speaker 2: Yes, actually looking fantastic. We had a previous night last
- 0:33Speaker 2: night and tonight is the official opening, so everything is
- 0:39Speaker 2: in line and it looks absolutely fantastic. There's a good
- 0:42Speaker 2: buzz around town and yeah, we're all looking forward to
- 0:47Speaker 2: kicking off tonight.
- 0:48Speaker 1: Yeah. I reckon it's going to be amazing. It's one
- 0:50Speaker 1: of those things that's on my bucket list. I've never
- 0:52Speaker 1: quite made it. Paul, and I know that Pajama showcases
- 0:57Speaker 1: the oldest continuous culture on Earth, throughout the newest technology
- 1:02Speaker 1: against that three hundred million year old canvas of the
- 1:05Speaker 1: McDonald Ranges. It must be the most spectacular site to see.
- 1:11Speaker 2: Oh look, look it's really hard to explain, but you
- 1:14Speaker 2: know you've got to come down at some stage have
- 1:16Speaker 2: a look at it. But look, it's really it's it's
- 1:19Speaker 2: really mind blowing because it's actually light and it's different colors,
- 1:24Speaker 2: and it's and it's effervescent, and it's and it's big
- 1:27Speaker 2: and it's bold. And when you project images up on
- 1:30Speaker 2: the range in the darkness of night and you've got
- 1:34Speaker 2: all these different colors happening with installations around the installation site,
- 1:40Speaker 2: and you know, got families walking through, people traversing through it,
- 1:44Speaker 2: it's just amazing. It's it's absolutely, you know, mind blowing.
- 1:51Speaker 1: Paul. I know that First Nations people have long looked
- 1:54Speaker 1: into the skies to understand their place on country. How
- 1:59Speaker 1: big an impact and how big a part does that
- 2:01Speaker 1: play in what people are going to see when they
- 2:04Speaker 1: are at Parchment this year.
- 2:06Speaker 2: Yeah, the installations are based around the theme, which is
- 2:09Speaker 2: Sky Country, and it's about how you know, indigenous peoples
- 2:15Speaker 2: around the world, but specifically here Aboriginal people, the constellations
- 2:21Speaker 2: and the universe and the sky in terms of navigation,
- 2:25Speaker 2: in terms of noticing when climate is changing or when
- 2:30Speaker 2: seasons are coming, and how that then connects to the
- 2:34Speaker 2: native flora and fauna. So a lot of installations are
- 2:37Speaker 2: based around that connectivity, so that there's a direct relation
- 2:43Speaker 2: between what's up in the heavens and what's down on
- 2:46Speaker 2: earth and how we relate to it as average of people.
- 2:50Speaker 1: I reckon Central Australia, Alice Springs, it's such a spiritual place,
- 2:53Speaker 1: you know, those McDonald ranges is such an amazing place,
- 2:57Speaker 1: you know, without the lights, so then when you think
- 2:59Speaker 1: about those amazing lights as well, it would just be
- 3:02Speaker 1: absolutely beautiful.
- 3:04Speaker 2: Yeah, look it is. And you know, like you said,
- 3:07Speaker 2: al Springs is a very powerful and spiritual place and
- 3:10Speaker 2: there's lots of creativity comes out of our springs because
- 3:13Speaker 2: of that energy that we all feel when we live here.
- 3:16Speaker 2: I mean, there's not too many towns around the world.
- 3:18Speaker 2: Actually got to got a range running rights in the
- 3:20Speaker 2: middle of it ustimate donald Ranges, which is you we're
- 3:23Speaker 2: in your dreaming and that spiritually that that brings, it's
- 3:27Speaker 2: got its own energy. So if you if you put
- 3:30Speaker 2: the light show on top of that and other activities
- 3:33Speaker 2: that we have, it's it's it's it's pretty powerful.
- 3:36Speaker 1: Yeah, and you said that there are some of those
- 3:38Speaker 1: other activities as well. What else will be happening sort
- 3:42Speaker 1: of in conjunction with or at PATCHA.
- 3:46Speaker 2: Yeah, we have workshops. We have talk shows with special
- 3:50Speaker 2: guests that come and talk, like for example, Dan Sulten,
- 3:53Speaker 2: I will be talking with Rhoda Roberts, the curator of Partsma.
- 3:59Speaker 2: She's the First Nation's creator. We also have music. We
- 4:04Speaker 2: have Barker, for example, one one of the artists that
- 4:07Speaker 2: is performing, but there's a whole several artists that are
- 4:10Speaker 2: performing on the night, both local and national talent. We
- 4:16Speaker 2: have movies that are being shown at the Art Center.
- 4:19Speaker 2: So we've got the two sites happening Araluin as well
- 4:22Speaker 2: as the Pallas being Desert Park, And of course there's
- 4:27Speaker 2: interpretation around installations and the light show, which which brings
- 4:33Speaker 2: it all together at a fantastic festival.
- 4:35Speaker 1: Yeah, I reckon it would. Every is the town of
- 4:39Speaker 1: buzz that people just pumped that it's that it's back underway.
- 4:43Speaker 2: Oh yeah, yeah people are. I mean there's a different
- 4:45Speaker 2: sort of feeling when you're walking around town and and
- 4:48Speaker 2: there's an energy there and people. You know, it's a
- 4:51Speaker 2: ten day event, it's a free event, and it's very
- 4:56Speaker 2: very well patronized by the by the local community also so,
- 5:02Speaker 2: but you can see a lot of visitors that are
- 5:04Speaker 2: in town and that are really looking forward to experiencing
- 5:09Speaker 2: parts as well as are looking at other areas of
- 5:11Speaker 2: Central Australia and hopefully up to other parts of the
- 5:14Speaker 2: Northern Territory.
- 5:15Speaker 1: All good stuff for Paul Archie in team Major Events
- 5:18Speaker 1: Company's director of Engagement. Lovely to speak with you this
- 5:21Speaker 1: morning and I hope that it is a wonderful success
- 5:24Speaker 1: as it always as it always is.
- 5:27Speaker 2: Thanks Katie, thank you.
