- 0:20Speaker: Welcome back to Duh It Down.
- 0:22Speaker: The podcast you don't need, but the podcast you can't walk away from.
- 0:26Speaker: We already got to hear about Vale's trip to Duh It Down.
- 0:29Speaker: So tonight we wrap up the Bon Voyage episode and we hear how the trip to Germany for Oktoberfest went for the Lummox.
- 0:35Speaker: Can he handle that German beer?
- 0:38Speaker: Does he know how to ride the subway?
- 0:41Speaker: Is he aware that all his eye pretzels are not created equally?
- 0:44Speaker: And most importantly, can he finish that extra light beer?
- 0:49Speaker: Let's jump back into the episode and hear what happens.
- 0:54Speaker 1: So as as everybody knows, I went to Germany for Oktoberfest.
- 0:59Speaker 1: Went out with a group of five other guys.
- 1:02Speaker 1: Before I even get to Germany, though, I'm in the airport and I'm going through TSA and I go through I go through the scanner and I get randomly selected for extra screening.
- 1:17Speaker 1: Of course you did.
- 1:18Speaker 1: Now I bring this up, I bring this up because I get air quote randomly selected every single time I fly.
- 1:28Speaker 1: It doesn't matter what airport, what day of the week, what time of the day, you know, where I am, I get randomly selected.
- 1:36Speaker 1: So after this happens, you know, like 20 times, it's no longer random.
- 1:40Speaker 1: There's obviously something in my profile, you know, when you put your your real ID in and it comes up, they gotta have a screen that goes, Oh yeah, check this guy.
- 1:48Speaker 1: He looks he looks suspicious because I get checked everywhere.
- 1:50Speaker 1: I got checked coming home from Germany, not even in my own country.
- 1:54Speaker 1: I this it's no longer random.
- 1:56Speaker 1: There's something in my profile that says, check this guy.
- 1:59Speaker 1: So and I even I even told the I even told the TSA agent, just sit tell me you're you're selecting me for screening because it's no longer random.
- 2:07Speaker 1: And then he said he asked me why, and I told him, he goes, I don't want to tell you, man, it's random.
- 2:11Speaker 1: I'm like, dude, it's not random, it happens all the time.
- 2:14Speaker 1: So I guess I and this time they only checked my cell phone.
- 2:17Speaker 1: They uh they wiped down my cell phone to make sure it was clean.
- 2:20Speaker 1: So at least I had to take my shoes off or something.
- 2:22Speaker 1: So I'm going to go to Germany.
- 2:25Speaker 1: It is going over is not too bad.
- 2:27Speaker 1: It's about an eight-hour flight.
- 2:28Speaker 1: Coming back was a 10-hour flight.
- 2:30Speaker 1: That was brutal.
- 2:31Speaker 1: Uh, and it's an overnight flight.
- 2:33Speaker 1: So you know, you you leave you leave the east coast around 4:30 or so, you get into Germany.
- 2:40Speaker 1: It's about 7 o'clock in the morning.
- 2:42Speaker 1: You spend about an hour trying to get through customs.
- 2:45Speaker 1: You go to one line to scan your passport and uh your fingerprints, then you get into another line where they actually you know take your passport and they you know they stamp it and everything like that.
- 2:56Speaker 1: I will say, when you're in the airport with like a million other people in a cattle herd line trying to go through customs, you can tell when people did not wear deodorant in the morning or in their overnight flight.
- 3:10Speaker 1: You can tell that easily.
- 3:11Speaker 1: So make it through, make it through customs, make it you know, welcome to welcome to Germany, and I'm and I'm starving because the airplane food was was okay, but it you know, it wasn't it wasn't a lot, it didn't satisfy the lummox.
- 3:23Speaker 1: So we still had to wait for two other guys to fly in.
- 3:27Speaker 1: They were coming, they were on different flights.
- 3:29Speaker 1: So we figured let's go grab some breakfast.
- 3:32Speaker 1: Because it was like at that time, it's probably like 8, 8:30 or so.
- 3:36Speaker 1: So we're walking around, walking around, and you know, everything, everything's you know, the all the overhead speakers are in German, all the signs are in German, but you got the one visual sign that's got the plate with the knife and a fork, and it's pointing to the left.
- 3:49Speaker 1: I go, Well, that's food, let's just keep going.
- 3:51Speaker 1: So you follow that and you keep following it, and you go to another hallway, and you keep following, you go downstairs.
- 3:56Speaker 1: We finally made it to a courtyard, and I saw the McDonald's.
- 4:02Speaker 1: I said, Well, there we go.
- 4:03Speaker 1: I know what that is.
- 4:04Speaker 1: We're gonna go there.
- 4:05Speaker 1: So I travel disorder at in Germany.
- 4:09Speaker 1: I I travel like what, hey, you know, eight hours around the world to another country, and the first thing I eat, welcome to Germany, where's your McDonald's?
- 4:17Speaker 1: So we go to McDonald's, and you know they I mean they had like they didn't have like the bacon, egg, and cheese bagel, then they had like the farmer's breakfast sandwich or something, but then they also had they had an egg McMuffin.
- 4:27Speaker 1: Like, I'll get the egg McMuffin.
- 4:28Speaker 1: I know what that is.
- 4:30Speaker 1: Well, their egg McMuffin doesn't come with Canadian bacon, it comes with real bacon.
- 4:34Speaker 1: So I felt that that was it was sort of an upgrade, but you don't get hash browns, you don't get any hash browns, and I didn't I didn't realize this.
- 4:42Speaker 1: And I ordered like the the super sized meal or whatever, and all that did was give me an extra extra bottle of orange juice.
- 4:49Speaker 1: That's what I got for sure sizing my meal.
- 4:52Speaker 1: Nice, no pulp.
- 4:53Speaker 1: There was there was no pulp in it, so I didn't have to chew that, you know.
- 4:57Speaker 1: So you wouldn't have been too happy.
- 4:59Speaker 1: But we finished up and we're like, man, we still got a couple hours before the other guys land.
- 5:04Speaker 1: We look, we're sitting in this courtyard and we look across the courtyard, and there's a beer garden at the airport.
- 5:10Speaker 4: Yes.
- 5:10Speaker 1: I'm like, well, we're here for Oktoberfest, we might as well get started.
- 5:13Speaker 1: I know it's 9 a.m.
- 5:14Speaker 1: But I'm sure they still serve beer early over here.
- 5:17Speaker 1: So we go over there, they're open, it's already packed.
- 5:20Speaker 1: So we get in line to wait, and uh, we get it, we get a table.
- 5:23Speaker 1: So now it's like 9:30, and we start drinking beers.
- 5:26Speaker 1: So they give it, they give us the menu, and of course, you know, I don't know the different types of beers, but I just point to one and say, give me one of those.
- 5:33Speaker 1: And she's like, Do you want the half liter or the liter size?
- 5:35Speaker 1: I said, I'm here for Oktoberfest, I gotta go full liter.
- 5:38Speaker 1: You gotta go, you gotta do full liters.
- 5:40Speaker 1: Sure.
- 5:40Speaker 1: So she brings brings that over.
- 5:42Speaker 1: We get but you just pick randomly, you had no idea what it said.
- 5:46Speaker 1: I picked, yeah, I picked RAM.
- 5:48Speaker 1: Like, I'll take beer number one.
- 5:49Speaker 1: They had three different beers on there.
- 5:50Speaker 1: I go, give me number one, I'll take the liter size.
- 5:52Speaker 1: And it was good.
- 5:53Speaker 1: I have no idea what it was, but it was good.
- 5:55Speaker 1: So and then we had uh we with beer, you need pretzels, right?
- 6:00Speaker 1: So we started ordering side pretzels.
- 6:01Speaker 1: So I'm eating.
- 6:02Speaker 1: I just I just had my tic-tac egg McMuffins, and now I've got a couple couple pretzels.
- 6:07Speaker 1: I'm probably three liter beers in, and then one of our other guys are waiting when he finally shows up and he joins us.
- 6:14Speaker 1: We still have like two more hours before the third guy gets there.
- 6:17Speaker 1: So we spent like five hours in the beer garden at the airport just waiting for the last guy to show up, just slamming these liter beers.
- 6:26Speaker 1: And I before we left, I look at the I look at the menu and all the things you could order.
- 6:32Speaker 1: They have this thing at the bottom called the last meal.
- 6:35Speaker 1: And you could order a glass of water, a slice of bread, and one cigarette.
- 6:39Speaker 1: And that was your last, that was just called the last meal.
- 6:42Speaker 1: I was like, I've never seen that before.
- 6:45Speaker 1: I'm not much of a smoker, so I'm not gonna get it, but I think that's kind of funny.
- 6:49Speaker 1: That is funny.
- 6:50Speaker 3: That is funny.
- 6:52Speaker 1: So we're after, you know, so we're five hours, we're five hours into drinking already.
- 6:55Speaker 1: It's the first morning we've arrived.
- 6:58Speaker 1: Other other buddy shows up.
- 7:00Speaker 1: So now we gotta get it, we gotta get an Uber, and we gotta hit we gotta get into Munich.
- 7:04Speaker 1: It's probably like a 35-minute Uber ride uh from the airport into I guess into the city where where the hotel was that we were staying.
- 7:11Speaker 1: One of the guys pulls up the Uber app, and we get uh you know, we get like a van an XL or a van, whatever that's gonna hold six guys, and it says, okay, go to the you know, go to the pickup spot, and your driver will be there in you know like 15 minutes or something.
- 7:25Speaker 1: All right, so we got 15 minutes.
- 7:27Speaker 1: So you go in again, everything's in German, but Uber is still Uber, you know, U-B-E-R.
- 7:32Speaker 1: I'm like, oh, there's an Uber sign, and it's pointing to the right.
- 7:35Speaker 1: Let's let's just follow that.
- 7:36Speaker 1: So you follow that, you go around the curve, you go down a long hallway, and you're you find the next set of signs, and it shows Uber off to the left.
- 7:43Speaker 1: So you take the left, you start going that way, and then you get to the one where it says Uber downstairs.
- 7:48Speaker 1: So you go on the escalator and you go downstairs, and you get off the escalator, you can go one of four directions, and there are no Uber signs.
- 7:55Speaker 1: The trail has gone cold.
- 7:58Speaker 1: So now I guess you're just gonna play guess an Uber, right?
- 8:03Speaker 1: Guess a guess a path, pick a number, which way you want to go.
- 8:06Speaker 1: Oh, you gotta be kidding me.
- 8:07Speaker 1: So I maybe we missed something.
- 8:09Speaker 1: So I go back up the escalator and I go, no, it clearly says Uber down.
- 8:13Speaker 1: I go back down the escalator, and I we're looking around and there is no other sign to tell you which of these four paths.
- 8:18Speaker 1: So we picked one and we started walking, and after after about 10 minutes, we didn't see any.
- 8:23Speaker 1: I'm like, I think we're going the wrong way.
- 8:24Speaker 1: So we backtrack, finally found one that we finally ran into another Uber sign.
- 8:30Speaker 1: We're like, okay, at least we're going in the right direction.
- 8:32Speaker 1: So we come out to you know, you know, every airport's got that Uber zone, right?
- 8:36Speaker 1: Where you get picked up, and if you look on your sometimes, there's multiple zones, and if you look at your Uber app, it'll be like you're in Uber Five or Uber Zone Four or something.
- 8:44Speaker 1: Well, this is just one zone, and it was like a little alcove parking area.
- 8:49Speaker 1: So we walk out and there are two cars there, two two Uber drivers there.
- 8:55Speaker 1: Neither one of them are ours because they're driving these little, these little like you know, Hyundai pickup things, right?
- 9:00Speaker 1: It's they're not they're not the XL van that we ordered.
- 9:02Speaker 1: So I go, well, I guess our guy's not here.
- 9:04Speaker 1: So you look at the app and it says your driver is there.
- 9:07Speaker 1: I go, no, he's not.
- 9:09Speaker 1: He's not here.
- 9:10Speaker 1: There's two cars that are like little hatchbacks, they're not our cars.
- 9:14Speaker 1: So you text the guy through the Uber app.
- 9:16Speaker 1: We're here, where are you?
- 9:17Speaker 1: I'm here, where are you?
- 9:18Speaker 1: Oh my god, we're gonna go out in circles here.
- 9:21Speaker 1: Uh we're at the Uber zone.
- 9:23Speaker 1: I'm at I'm I'm in zone.
- 9:25Speaker 1: He's like, I'm in zone, I don't see you.
- 9:26Speaker 1: Like, I don't see you, I'm at the zone.
- 9:28Speaker 1: So, like, after like 10 minutes, this guy comes walking up to us and says our name, like, yeah, well, where have you been?
- 9:35Speaker 1: I was at the zone.
- 9:36Speaker 1: Come on, let's go, let's get in the car.
- 9:38Speaker 1: I'm like, Great, that's all we want to do is get in the car and get going to the hotel.
- 9:41Speaker 1: We walked for like 20 minutes.
- 9:43Speaker 1: I go, You were nowhere near the Uber zone.
- 9:47Speaker 1: What do you hell are you talking about?
- 9:49Speaker 1: It was like in this alcove where like service trucks are and drop all shit for the airport.
- 9:55Speaker 1: This is not the Uber zone.
- 9:56Speaker 1: Whatever.
- 9:57Speaker 1: Get let's just get in the car, let's go.
- 9:59Speaker 1: We we get in it, we finally get in the car, we get there.
- 10:02Speaker 1: I mean, he got us there, so you know, thank thankful for that.
- 10:05Speaker 1: But he didn't he didn't know how to read a map because he was nowhere near the Uber zone.
- 10:10Speaker 2: Or you just weren't in the right Uber zone.
- 10:12Speaker 1: There was only one.
- 10:13Speaker 1: He we were we went to like the place where like like McDonald's would drop off their food for the day and go in the back door in the airport.
- 10:22Speaker 1: We weren't even in like the the main pickup areas, we're like in service entry areas that nobody goes to.
- 10:28Speaker 1: You know, sorry, so so we we we get we get there, we get to we get to the airport, we get to the hotel, we're checking in, and so they've got we've got two rooms rented.
- 10:37Speaker 1: One room's got two single beds, and the other room's got two bunk, two sets of bunk beds.
- 10:43Speaker 1: So I'm like, all right, well, the the the younger guys are going up on the bunk beds, and we looked at it, and there's no way I was even gonna fit on the bottom bunk, so I had to go to the other room and sleep on one of the single beds.
- 10:54Speaker 1: So we'll go to the go to that room, and the first thing you always do when I go into the hotel room is I try to figure out the air conditioner, right?
- 11:00Speaker 1: So I'm in there and I'm figuring it out, and I figure, well, first of all, over in Europe, you have to put your key card in this magical slot in the room inside the hotel just to turn things on.
- 11:11Speaker 1: Before you, until you put the until you put the key card in, nothing works.
- 11:15Speaker 1: No lights come on, air conditioning doesn't work, nothing, right?
- 11:19Speaker 1: So I'm like, why is nothing work?
- 11:21Speaker 1: Oh, that's right.
- 11:22Speaker 1: My wife said I gotta put my key in this special slot.
- 11:24Speaker 1: So I find the slot, put in there, and things finally turn on.
- 11:27Speaker 1: And I I figured out how to get the get the fan on the AC turned up to five, which was the max, and I got it turned down.
- 11:35Speaker 1: Like, good.
- 11:36Speaker 1: So hopefully the room cools off.
- 11:37Speaker 1: But you go to leave and you pull your key card out to leave because you need to.
- 11:42Speaker 1: And everything turns off.
- 11:43Speaker 1: AC turns off.
- 11:45Speaker 1: I was like, shit.
- 11:47Speaker 1: Like, all right, whatever.
- 11:49Speaker 1: So we we're like, so for that night, we had a reservation at the Little London Bar and Grill Steakhouse, like one of their, I guess one of their nicer, fancier ones.
- 12:00Speaker 1: So we had to hop on the subway, get get there.
- 12:04Speaker 1: So and we had to walk like 15 minutes.
- 12:06Speaker 1: But so we get there and we go to sit down, and the waitress goes, Can you would you like something to drink?
- 12:12Speaker 1: And I was like, Well, you know, I'm gonna be here for like the next four days just pounding beers, so maybe I'll do something different besides beer tonight.
- 12:19Speaker 1: She goes, What would you like?
- 12:21Speaker 1: And then I had flashbacks of uh Jim's tap, Todd, where you know I ordered a shot and I was told that wasn't what I was drinking, so I just decided to bypass all that and said, I don't know, why don't you pick something for me?
- 12:34Speaker 1: So she goes, We make a mean Boston sour.
- 12:37Speaker 1: I said, Sounds good.
- 12:38Speaker 1: Bring me a Boston sour.
- 12:39Speaker 1: No idea what it is, but that's what we're drinking, right?
- 12:41Speaker 1: That does not sound good.
- 12:43Speaker 1: It was like a whiskey sour with something else in it, but it was it was fine.
- 12:48Speaker 1: I I drank that.
- 12:49Speaker 1: Uh the other guys had the other guys had some beers.
- 12:51Speaker 1: We had a good we had a good dinner, and then we went back because we knew that was third.
- 12:56Speaker 1: Of course I did.
- 12:58Speaker 1: I got a huge ribeye.
- 12:59Speaker 2: Uh ribeyes in Germany.
- 13:03Speaker 1: It was good.
- 13:04Speaker 2: Just the same.
- 13:05Speaker 1: It was just the same.
- 13:06Speaker 1: Just you know, just a big, big ribeye steak.
- 13:09Speaker 1: It was good.
- 13:09Speaker 1: I also got the steak tartar appetizer, which is you know just raw raw beef.
- 13:14Speaker 1: That that was all good.
- 13:15Speaker 1: And we knew not to hit it extremely too hard because we had to we were doing a bus tour the next day out to um one of the castles out there, out there outside of Bavaria.
- 13:25Speaker 1: So we just went back to the hotel, and I was like, you know what?
- 13:29Speaker 1: This AC thing's just not gonna work.
- 13:31Speaker 1: So we opened up the window.
- 13:33Speaker 1: Crazy, right?
- 13:34Speaker 1: I'm on the 14th floor, and you could open the window.
- 13:36Speaker 1: You know, in the in the in the states, everything's locked down.
- 13:39Speaker 1: But over there, open the window, it was like 50 degrees outside, but it did not cool off in the room.
- 13:44Speaker 1: I go, I don't understand the dynamics of this room.
- 13:47Speaker 1: I've got the window open, it is 50 degrees outside, and it's hot as shit in this in this hotel room.
- 13:52Speaker 1: I don't see how this isn't working, right?
- 13:57Speaker 2: Don't get all the alcohol you had there at the Limox that day.
- 14:00Speaker 1: Uh I hadn't had anything out of the norm yet.
- 14:05Speaker 1: It was, it was, it was a normal consumption day so far.
- 14:08Speaker 2: Oh, okay.
- 14:09Speaker 1: That was that was all that was all Thursday.
- 14:11Speaker 1: So Friday, we are taking a bus tour out to uh Castle Neushwanstein, or that's something like that, but it's the castle that Disney like scoped or like modeled their Cinderella castle after.
- 14:27Speaker 1: Oh yeah, this actual castle.
- 14:29Speaker 1: Wait, so we have to we gotta take the subway to get to the place where the uh where the bus is gonna the bus that we're gonna meet up with the tour, right?
- 14:37Speaker 1: So we get we get on this, we go on the subway, we're heading down there, and we come to this stop, and I notice that everybody is getting off the subway.
- 14:46Speaker 1: Everyone is getting off the subway.
- 14:48Speaker 1: And I look to my buddy and I go, Do you think they know something we don't know?
- 14:52Speaker 1: And before we could react or do anything, the doors slam shut, and it's just the six of us on the subway.
- 15:00Speaker 1: Oh no, that's it.
- 15:02Speaker 1: And I go, that's not that's not a good sign, is it?
- 15:07Speaker 1: So you go to press the button, the hand button on the door, it doesn't work.
- 15:11Speaker 1: I go, I'm not quite sure how we're supposed to get off of this.
- 15:14Speaker 1: Everybody is out on the the main walkway staring at us like we're fish in a fish tank, pointing to us, saying, get off.
- 15:23Speaker 1: I'm sure they're saying, look at this stupid American stuck on the subway.
- 15:27Speaker 1: So we're we're there.
- 15:28Speaker 1: After about five minutes, the colonel, he was one of the guys that went with us.
- 15:32Speaker 1: The listeners remember him from the uh the pregame for the oyster eat.
- 15:37Speaker 1: The colonel was with us.
- 15:38Speaker 1: He found this SOS button and he pushes it, and this angry German voice comes over the loudspeaker.
- 15:44Speaker 1: I'm sure they're bitching us out.
- 15:46Speaker 1: I had no idea what they were saying.
- 15:47Speaker 1: But after they did something, we were able to press the button to actually get off the subway.
- 15:51Speaker 1: So apparently that was like the final stop for that particular car.
- 15:54Speaker 1: And they must have said something in German, and everybody said, Okay, we got to get off, but not us.
- 15:59Speaker 1: We got stuck on the subway car for like five minutes, not knowing what the hell we were gonna do.
- 16:05Speaker 2: Oh, yeah.
- 16:06Speaker 1: Stupid American tours, stupid Americans, right?
- 16:09Speaker 1: So we finally get off and we we we uh meet up with the uh the the tour bus that's gonna take us on this trip out to this castle, and it's like our oyster bus, right?
- 16:20Speaker 1: It's like a like a greyhound sort of tour bus thing.
- 16:23Speaker 1: And so we get on and it's a two-hour drive.
- 16:26Speaker 1: So our tour guide you know starts talking to us, telling us about the area, tell us what we're gonna do.
- 16:32Speaker 1: Uh, and and they invite maybe and they have beers on the bus.
- 16:35Speaker 1: I'm like, cool, let's have a beer.
- 16:36Speaker 1: So we start drinking a couple beers, and about halfway through the trip, about an hour in, we stop at this little Bavarian village just for like bathroom breaks and stuff.
- 16:46Speaker 1: And if somebody wants to go sightseeing for like 10 minutes, but she goes, they have an amazing um local ice cream shop here where they make they make all their local all their ice cream, like says homemade.
- 16:57Speaker 1: So I'm like, oh, I might as well go there.
- 16:59Speaker 1: So you go in and I got a I got an ice cream cone of homemade ferro rocher ice cream.
- 17:06Speaker 1: It was pretty damn good.
- 17:08Speaker 2: That sounds good.
- 17:09Speaker 2: My son would love that.
- 17:11Speaker 2: He loves that stuff.
- 17:12Speaker 1: We eat that, get back on the get back on the bus.
- 17:16Speaker 1: And this is where the progressive commercial comes in.
- 17:20Speaker 1: You know, the ones like the old guy, you know, you know, uh, something something is hard for young homeowners turning into their parents.
- 17:27Speaker 2: Their parents, yeah.
- 17:29Speaker 1: This is exactly what was starting to happen.
- 17:31Speaker 1: So there's this guy, this American, he's on the bus, he's about eight rows in front of us, and he starts talking to the people next to him, and he's going, so I've got this thing at work called use it or lose it PTO.
- 17:44Speaker 1: And what that means is if I don't use my PTO, I lose it, and I don't, I and I don't get to I don't get to use that.
- 17:50Speaker 1: And then I get my new allocation for the next year.
- 17:52Speaker 1: And since so I had this use it or lose it PTO, I decided I was going to use it.
- 17:57Speaker 1: And by using it, I decided to come here, and that's why I'm here because I had to use it.
- 18:01Speaker 1: I had my PTO that I had to use because I didn't want to lose it.
- 18:04Speaker 1: And he kept going on.
- 18:05Speaker 1: I looked at the kernel and I go, you know, bus touring is hard for young homeowners that are turning into their parents.
- 18:12Speaker 1: I had the whole bus rolling back there.
- 18:17Speaker 1: This just kept going on and I'm like, I feel bad for those guys.
- 18:21Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 18:22Speaker 1: So we we finally we finally get to uh the castle.
- 18:25Speaker 1: Castle's amazing.
- 18:27Speaker 1: If you're ever over there and you go to see it, it's it's incredible.
- 18:30Speaker 1: You weren't allowed to take pictures inside the castle, but the main throne room was it was just amazing with the architecture and the you know the chandeliers and the and all the you know the the gold um candle labras and you know the crystals and everything in the throne room and the paintings and stuff.
- 18:47Speaker 1: It was it was really wild.
- 18:48Speaker 1: I had a great time in that.
- 18:50Speaker 1: Well, we go to leave, and you gotta walk down this really steep mountain to get down.
- 18:55Speaker 1: So we finally get down.
- 18:56Speaker 1: That was painful in the knees for the big, big fat guys.
- 18:58Speaker 1: We finally get finally get down to the bottom.
- 19:00Speaker 1: Not while we walk, but we got to the bottom, and there is a beer place.
- 19:07Speaker 1: So we asked, we asked our tour guide, do we have time to go to the to the to the little market thingy, grab some beers for the bus ride home?
- 19:17Speaker 1: Because I know we got a two-hour drive home.
- 19:19Speaker 1: And she goes, You really don't, we really don't have time, but don't worry.
- 19:23Speaker 1: We have beer on the bus and we have never run out before.
- 19:31Speaker 2: So she actually said that that's a challenge to the lummox.
- 19:34Speaker 1: So I said, Let me get this straight.
- 19:36Speaker 1: You've got beer on the bus that I can buy to drink for this two-hour ride, and there's enough that's gonna last me for the two-hour drive because you have never run out of beer on this tour.
- 19:46Speaker 1: That's correct.
- 19:47Speaker 1: I got you.
- 19:49Speaker 1: I gotcha.
- 19:50Speaker 1: So you get back on the bus.
- 19:52Speaker 1: We're about two-thirds of the way back.
- 19:54Speaker 1: We start driving off.
- 19:55Speaker 1: She starts walking down the aisle taking people's orders.
- 19:59Speaker 1: So, you know, somebody says, I'll take a water.
- 20:01Speaker 1: And the guy's like, I'll take one beer.
- 20:04Speaker 1: Uh, can I get a can I get a soda?
- 20:06Speaker 1: And she's doing that.
- 20:07Speaker 1: She gets to our group.
- 20:08Speaker 1: I go, we need eight beers.
- 20:10Speaker 1: She goes, Oh, eight beers.
- 20:12Speaker 1: Yeah, we need eight beers.
- 20:13Speaker 1: So, and they were only two euros a piece, right?
- 20:15Speaker 1: So that's 16 euros.
- 20:16Speaker 1: Drop her a 20.
- 20:17Speaker 1: There's your tip.
- 20:18Speaker 1: Bring me the eight beers.
- 20:19Speaker 1: So, okay, so she grabs eight beers, she comes back to us, and then she goes past us to start taking work, you know, waiting on the people sitting behind us.
- 20:28Speaker 1: When she's done them and she starts walking back to the front of the bus as she's passing us, I said, We need eight more beers.
- 20:35Speaker 1: Here's our empties.
- 20:37Speaker 1: And she goes, Oh, it's gonna be like that.
- 20:39Speaker 1: And I said, You're the one that challenged me and said you never ran out of beers, so it's gonna be like that.
- 20:44Speaker 1: So she goes up, she gets eight more beers, she brings it back, and then we do another round, and this time people are starting to like get involved or like paying attention to what's going on.
- 20:55Speaker 1: So I go, we need eight.
- 20:57Speaker 1: Does anybody else need a beer?
- 20:58Speaker 1: And then, like the old couple behind us, like, yeah, we'll take two.
- 21:00Speaker 1: Make that 10 beers.
- 21:01Speaker 1: We're getting beers for these two.
- 21:03Speaker 1: So we got beers flowing all over the place.
- 21:06Speaker 1: Then, of course, what happens after you drink several beers, Todd?
- 21:09Speaker 1: You gotta break the seal.
- 21:12Speaker 1: So I the on this particular style of bus, unlike our oyster eat bus, where the where the pisser is in the back corner and it's as tall as the actual upper deck of the bus is, so you can stand up in it.
- 21:28Speaker 1: This pisser was downstairs.
- 21:31Speaker 1: Now, this is not a double decker bus.
- 21:35Speaker 1: The only downstairs to this bus is where they put the luggage or where you take the two steps to get down and get off the bus.
- 21:42Speaker 1: There's really not a true downstairs, but they managed to put a bathroom downstairs.
- 21:49Speaker 1: So open up the door as you walk down the two steps, and it was literally built for somebody that might have been four foot nine.
- 21:59Speaker 1: So I'm not big into yoga.
- 22:03Speaker 1: It was not Lummox standard size.
- 22:09Speaker 1: It was not a U.S.
- 22:10Speaker 1: Lummox metric, right?
- 22:12Speaker 1: I had to do some really sophisticated yoga moves to get into this bathroom.
- 22:17Speaker 1: I I may have pulled a hammy doing that, but I I managed.
- 22:21Speaker 1: It was it was it was not it was not pleasant, and I got back out.
- 22:24Speaker 1: Everyone's going, How the hell did you piss down there?
- 22:27Speaker 2: You should have had someone take a picture and you're trying to squeeze in there.
- 22:30Speaker 2: That's what I wanted to say.
- 22:31Speaker 1: So I get back, get back up to my seat.
- 22:33Speaker 1: I said, Are we out of beers yet?
- 22:34Speaker 1: We're out.
- 22:35Speaker 1: So I had to call our call the tour guy back down.
- 22:37Speaker 1: And I said, Are we another round?
- 22:39Speaker 1: So she brings us another round.
- 22:41Speaker 1: We drink that.
- 22:42Speaker 1: And we're about a half hour out from Munich.
- 22:44Speaker 1: And I get her attention to come back.
- 22:46Speaker 1: And I was like, All right, how many beers do we have left?
- 22:48Speaker 1: She goes, We only have six beers left.
- 22:50Speaker 1: I said, Bring them.
- 22:51Speaker 1: Bring them.
- 22:53Speaker 1: Let's do it.
- 22:53Speaker 1: We're killing it.
- 22:54Speaker 1: It's over.
- 22:55Speaker 1: And then as uh so we finish those, and as we're getting off the bus, I go, had a great time.
- 23:00Speaker 1: And now when you give your spiel to the next tour bus, you can tell them you've only ever run out of beers once on this tour.
- 23:06Speaker 1: Thank you.
- 23:08Speaker 3: But she didn't actually run out because your last round was when you got there.
- 23:13Speaker 1: No, we were about it.
- 23:14Speaker 3: There's another round after that.
- 23:16Speaker 1: Well, we were still about by the time she brought it to us, we're about 20 minutes out.
- 23:19Speaker 1: We were on the we were on the Autobot.
- 23:21Speaker 1: So we finished, we drank all the beers before we got back to the bus stop.
- 23:24Speaker 3: Got it.
- 23:25Speaker 1: That technically we drank.
- 23:27Speaker 3: Can ask your question?
- 23:28Speaker 3: Now you had to navigate these stairs, and the bus was still dry running, right?
- 23:33Speaker 3: So you had to go down the stairs where the bus was moving down the road, right?
- 23:38Speaker 1: Absolutely.
- 23:39Speaker 1: You had to go down two steps, and then you had to open the door, then you had to squeeze into this little confined area to go to the bathroom, and then you had to work your way back out and climb back up the steps.
- 23:50Speaker 2: And you're could you shut the door behind you, or you just left it open as you squeezed in there?
- 23:56Speaker 1: I I pulled it closed, it did not close all the way.
- 23:59Speaker 4: All right.
- 24:00Speaker 4: Right.
- 24:01Speaker 1: And it was and it was okay because I figured the rest of my body was shielding any view of what was going on in the bathroom.
- 24:09Speaker 1: Wasn't like I was turned around taking a crap, right?
- 24:16Speaker 3: It would have been even better if someone did that.
- 24:19unknown: Yeah.
- 24:19Speaker 3: Drop the deuce in there.
- 24:20Speaker 3: You didn't pull your shorts all the way down to your ankles?
- 24:28Speaker 1: No, I didn't have to pull that maneuver, Todd.
- 24:31Speaker 2: You should have just done it anyway.
- 24:33Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 24:33Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 24:34Speaker 1: So we get done that.
- 24:36Speaker 1: We drank all those beers.
- 24:37Speaker 1: We go back to our our hotel, and they have just they have like a uh like a cafe kitchen sort of area, and they sold beers and stuff there.
- 24:45Speaker 1: So we just we got a burger there and kept on drinking some beers, knowing that the next day, which was Saturday, was the opening day of the festival at the tents and everything.
- 24:54Speaker 1: So we had we had a big day ahead of us.
- 24:56Speaker 1: So we got up early on Saturday to take the take the uh the subway back down to the the like the fairgrounds where the actual Oktoberfest event was.
- 25:06Speaker 1: We did not get stuck in it.
- 25:08Speaker 1: We we were this was a clean trip.
- 25:11Speaker 1: There were no issues with us, you know, navigating the subway on this one.
- 25:15Speaker 1: And we got down there, and they and I heard people were already in line by the time we got there.
- 25:20Speaker 1: And I heard people talk about how some people had already been in line since like 4 a.m.
- 25:24Speaker 1: and everything.
- 25:25Speaker 1: I was like, good lord.
- 25:26Speaker 1: So we get in line, and they finally open the you know, they open the main gates, and people are just running in.
- 25:32Speaker 1: Some people are getting trampled, it was crazy, and they're all going for the tents.
- 25:36Speaker 1: So we managed to get a seat um in one of the one of the main big tents.
- 25:40Speaker 1: These tents hold like 6,000 people, so they're huge.
- 25:44Speaker 1: And we so we get a tent there, and the waitress comes up and she goes, Beers don't start till noon because we have to wait for the mayor to tap the first cake.
- 25:52Speaker 1: But you've got your seat.
- 25:54Speaker 1: Is there anything you can is there anything you know you want to drink or eat until until noon?
- 25:59Speaker 1: And it was like it was like 10, it's like 10 o'clock, so we had two hours.
- 26:02Speaker 1: So I was like, okay, um, I'm I'm sure I'm sure you have sure you have a pretzel.
- 26:06Speaker 1: I'll take a pretzel and what do we have to drink?
- 26:08Speaker 1: So like we have water, we have sparkling apple juice.
- 26:12Speaker 1: And I thought to myself, Vale would love this.
- 26:15Speaker 1: Oh my god.
- 26:17Speaker 1: So so I got in honor of Vale, I got the sparkling apple juice and a and a big pretzel.
- 26:23Speaker 1: And we sat there, and obviously, being this uh our first Oktoberfest, I didn't realize I should have brought a deck of cards or something because you're sitting there for two hours at this table, you know, drinking apple juice and eating pretzels.
- 26:36Speaker 1: You should have done something else to occupy your time.
- 26:39Speaker 1: But we had a good time.
- 26:40Speaker 1: We you know we started, we just bullshit, and then finally the the big parade comes in, the mayor taps the keg, and now the beer is flowing.
- 26:48Speaker 1: The only problem is now you got immediate 6,000 people that need beers.
- 26:54Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 26:54Speaker 1: So then they're coming through with you know, they're you know, they're carrying like 24 beers in their hands, and they come to your table, they're throwing beers all over the place.
- 27:02Speaker 1: So we start we start slamming the beers, but the beers at the festival inside the tents were about 6.4 percent.
- 27:10Speaker 1: And you're drinking liter sizes, so it's it's it's a little more potent than my Miller extra lights, and you know, they start to sneak up on you.
- 27:21Speaker 1: We the main the the our our biggest issue that day was we forgot to eat for real.
- 27:26Speaker 1: So those beers, those beers crept up quickly on us.
- 27:30Speaker 1: But I will say during in the festival, they're playing all this, uh you know, they're playing all this German music and everything, and everybody's kind of like just having a good time, but then they start playing, they hit country roads by uh John Denver.
- 27:44Speaker 1: Yeah, they do the place went ape shit.
- 27:47Speaker 1: Everybody stood up, everybody's standing on their on the table, they're all they're all singing, and you all 6,000 people are singing.
- 27:54Speaker 1: I'm like, this is crazy.
- 27:56Speaker 3: Crazy.
- 27:57Speaker 3: I was crazy once.
- 27:58Speaker 3: I know me in a room.
- 28:00Speaker 1: They should lock you in a room.
- 28:01Speaker 1: Full of rats.
- 28:02Speaker 1: So so we we did all that, uh, got pretty much got got hammered, made it, made it back to the hotel, went to bed to get up because we were going back on Sunday.
- 28:13Speaker 1: So and on Sunday at at the festival, we actually had reservations.
- 28:17Speaker 1: We had bought tickets for an evening um table reservation.
- 28:21Speaker 1: So we were just kind of BSing during the day, walking around.
- 28:25Speaker 1: Vale, it's kind of like um the Ocean City boardwalk times a thousand.
- 28:30Speaker 1: It's huge.
- 28:31Speaker 1: I can imagine there's rides everywhere.
- 28:35Speaker 1: You know, there's there's there's you know, the little um souvenir shops, candy, you know, popcorn, um anything you want, funnel cakes, and then all the different rides, and then you got to all the main beer tents.
- 28:47Speaker 1: We went into a beer garden and said we should start this day off a little bit a little bit better.
- 28:52Speaker 1: We should actually eat something because we didn't do that yesterday, and that put a hurt, that put a hurting on us.
- 28:57Speaker 1: So I found a beer garden, we sat down, and waitress came up and said, Can I get you something to drink?
- 29:02Speaker 1: And my one buddy goes, I'll take a pilsner.
- 29:04Speaker 1: And she goes, We don't have that, we just have beer.
- 29:06Speaker 1: In fact, we'll take six of those.
- 29:11Speaker 1: And I was like, dude, don't ask for like specifics, just ask for the beer.
- 29:14Speaker 1: Because like every every beer gardener tent just had their beer that they were serving.
- 29:18Speaker 1: So we get that, and then she's like, You would you like something to eat?
- 29:21Speaker 1: I was like, Well, I want to try a sausage or something, right?
- 29:24Speaker 1: I want to try a brother or a sausage.
- 29:26Speaker 1: So the only thing we have right now is we have our white sausage.
- 29:28Speaker 1: How's that?
- 29:29Speaker 1: I said, sure, you know, take an order of the white sausage, and she goes, Would you like a side pretzel?
- 29:33Speaker 1: I'm like, Yep, of course.
- 29:34Speaker 1: Bring me the bring me the pretzel, because that's like a staple crop now, right?
- 29:37Speaker 1: Beer and a pretzel.
- 29:38Speaker 1: Well, I should have asked her what the dimensions of this pretzel were.
- 29:42Speaker 1: She comes back with this little bowl that's got these two pieces of white sausage in, and she's got this pretzel that is probably two and a half feet wide.
- 29:52Speaker 1: And I go, That's a side pretzel?
- 29:54Speaker 1: Good lord.
- 29:57Speaker 1: And and I wasn't on, we had three other people ordered the same thing.
- 30:00Speaker 1: So we have four of these two and a half foot pretzels sitting on the table.
- 30:04Speaker 1: Like, oh my god.
- 30:05Speaker 1: So then she goes, Is this your first time?
- 30:07Speaker 1: First time, what, eating sausage?
- 30:09Speaker 1: I no, I've had sausage before.
- 30:12Speaker 1: She goes, Is this your first time eating white sausage?
- 30:14Speaker 1: I go, Am I on candy camera?
- 30:16Speaker 1: What's what's going on here?
- 30:18Speaker 1: And she goes, You have to eat it correctly.
- 30:20Speaker 1: I said, So knife and a fork doesn't count anymore.
- 30:24Speaker 1: I was gonna say is that sausage or is there white sausage a term for something else?
- 30:28Speaker 1: Right, exactly.
- 30:29Speaker 1: So, no, it it actually was white sausage, but apparently you have to take the film, the coating off of it.
- 30:36Speaker 1: You're not supposed to eat that coating, right?
- 30:38Speaker 1: Like, okay, well, just you should have just told me that.
- 30:40Speaker 1: Take take the sausage condom off, and you can eat the what's on the inside.
- 30:44Speaker 1: So I did that, ate that, and then it was time to eat my pretzel.
- 30:48Speaker 1: Because I bought it, I should try to eat this.
- 30:50Speaker 1: So I, you know, you you rip it.
- 30:52Speaker 1: We're never eating a big soft pretzel tie, you know, you just rip a section off, right?
- 30:55Speaker 1: And you eat that section.
- 30:56Speaker 1: So I rip a section off, and I felt like I was holding a French baguette in my hand.
- 31:00Speaker 1: That's how big it was.
- 31:02Speaker 2: French baguette.
- 31:03Speaker 1: I just know we were gonna finish this pretzel.
- 31:06Speaker 1: So we ate as much as we could, got up, walked around, and then it was time for us to go meet at this one specific location to get our dinner tickets, and they were gonna then lead us back into a tent where our table was reserved.
- 31:17Speaker 1: So we go meet them, we go in, we have our the place is packed, but in the middle is this wide open table, and that was our table.
- 31:24Speaker 1: So they let us sit there, and then again, you guys want a beer?
- 31:27Speaker 1: Yep, bring them out.
- 31:27Speaker 1: Six beers, all leader sizes, just keep them coming.
- 31:30Speaker 1: We also got uh dinner with that, which was nice.
- 31:33Speaker 1: They had some um they had a half of a fried chicken, which was pretty damn good, and then they sang again the German music, and then they sang Bon Jovi, and then of course everybody went ape shit because they were singing Bon Jovi.
- 31:45Speaker 1: So it's like six thousand people standing up on the tables bon Jovi together.
- 31:50Speaker 1: They wanted to stand up and just yell, Jersey, yeah, New Jersey.
- 31:55Speaker 1: So the one the what the waitress came up what what song was?
- 31:59Speaker 1: Uh live living on a prayer on a prayer, bro.
- 32:02Speaker 1: Living on a prayer, of course.
- 32:03Speaker 1: Living on a prayer.
- 32:04Speaker 1: So the waitress, like, so where are you from?
- 32:07Speaker 1: And I said, I'm from the states.
- 32:08Speaker 1: She goes, No kidding, we're in the states.
- 32:10Speaker 3: Oh wow, she must be from New York.
- 32:13Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 32:14Speaker 1: But apparently she had family in the states.
- 32:18Speaker 1: She was from she was from Bavaria, but she had family.
- 32:20Speaker 1: And I guess I would I guess I had you know written across my forehead, I'm from the U.S.
- 32:24Speaker 1: or something, plastered on my forehead.
- 32:26Speaker 2: You look like you're from the U.S.
- 32:27Speaker 2: there, Lennox.
- 32:28Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 32:28Speaker 1: So we we wrap we wrapped that night up, and then the next day's Monday, we were take we're gonna go visit this like ancient monastery that was been brewing beers since like the 1500s or something.
- 32:40Speaker 1: So, but in order to get there, we had to take the subway, the train, a bus, and then walk.
- 32:46Speaker 1: But luckily, we've we figured out how to get there.
- 32:48Speaker 1: There were no issues, which was a major win for us.
- 32:51Speaker 1: When we were hurt, we were hurt pretty bad.
- 32:53Speaker 1: So we only had one beer out there as we sat on on top of this huge, they called it the Holy Mountain, Thomas Mountain overlooking the valley and everything.
- 33:01Speaker 1: It was really it was really cool.
- 33:02Speaker 1: Um, beer was good, but I was like, I don't think I can drink anymore.
- 33:06Speaker 1: And then came home, 10-hour flight home, which was brutal.
- 33:10Speaker 1: And now I'm back drinking, you know, Miller extra extra lights.
- 33:15Speaker 1: Nice.
- 33:15Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 33:18Speaker 1: All in all, it was a fantastic trip.
- 33:20Speaker 1: I would definitely do it again.
- 33:22Speaker 1: Uh, now that I'm a crafty veteran, I would know what to do and what not to do, and maybe hopefully not get stuck on the subway.
- 33:29Speaker 1: It was really cool.
- 33:31Speaker 1: Anybody done nation goes out there.
- 33:33Speaker 1: I highly recommend going to see that castle.
- 33:35Speaker 1: That was that was amazing.
- 33:37Speaker 1: But other than that, that was that would that was Germany.
- 33:39Speaker 1: That was Oktoberfest.
- 33:46Speaker 2: Non-stop beer and pretzels.
- 33:48Speaker 2: Right.
- 33:48Speaker 2: Did you get German chocolate cake?
- 33:50Speaker 2: Did I did not I did not see any German chocolate cake.
- 33:54Speaker 2: Hmm.
- 33:54Speaker 2: They even sell that in Germany, or is that just like an American thing?
- 33:59Speaker 1: No.
- 33:59Speaker 1: I don't know.
- 34:00Speaker 1: We we we got we did get dessert at the monastery because we we ate out there.
- 34:04Speaker 1: They have a cafe.
- 34:06Speaker 1: Uh so we did eat out there and we had like uh we had cheesecake and some kind of like um some kind of Danish strudel thing, which was really good, but they did not have any German chocolate cake.
- 34:15Speaker 2: So it sounds like the ice cream, homemade ice cream was the best one.
- 34:19Speaker 1: Oh, the homemade ice cream, the the ice cream was amazing.
- 34:21Speaker 1: I could have stayed there all day and just ate ice cream.
- 34:23Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 34:24Speaker 3: Nice.
- 34:25Speaker 3: Nice.
- 34:26Speaker 3: Good job, Lummox.
- 34:27Speaker 3: Like it.
- 34:28Speaker 3: I like both your stories.
- 34:29Speaker 3: They were very entertaining to me.
- 34:33Speaker 1: And I've got probably about a fifth of this Miller extra light left in my big leader mug, so let's finish that off.
- 34:41Speaker 3: He's chugging it.
- 34:42Speaker 2: He's chugging it, everybody.
- 34:44Speaker 2: There he goes.
- 34:45Speaker 2: Just like he was in the uh Oktoberfest.
- 34:48Speaker 2: Yep.
- 34:48Speaker 2: He's there we go.
- 34:50Speaker 3: Nice.
- 34:50Speaker 3: All right, Todd, anything from you?
- 34:53Speaker 3: Uh, yeah, we got I am 3-0 for our Diet Down Fantasy.
- 35:00Speaker 3: Uh Lummox, you're one and two now, and Val you're two and one.
- 35:04Speaker 3: Wolverine is oh and three.
- 35:08Speaker 3: Oh gosh, he's gotta battle back, or he'll be eating some scallops.
- 35:14Speaker 1: All I gotta do is beat him, and he can have the scallops, and I don't have to eat the cottage cheese, so that's all you gotta do.
- 35:21Speaker 3: And we had a little um thing for the fantasy knockout pool.
- 35:26Speaker 3: I won the first week, but I kept playing.
- 35:29Speaker 3: So Seattle was week one.
- 35:31Speaker 3: I took the Rams in week two, and won week three with the Chiefs.
- 35:36Speaker 3: So I'm still alive in the Die It Down Knockout League.
- 35:40Speaker 3: There you go.
- 35:41Speaker 3: Good job.
- 35:42Speaker 3: Yep, still hanging in there.
- 35:44Speaker 3: Uh, would like to say goodbye to Summer, where she is gonna be heading to the Southern Hemisphere soon here, and we're bringing in Autumn as our girl to announce uh Dye It Down.
- 35:58Speaker 3: She'll be our voice of the beginning of the show.
- 36:00Speaker 3: So say goodbye to Summer.
- 36:02Speaker 3: Vale, no incidents with her this time.
- 36:05Speaker 2: Uh Summer and I get along.
- 36:06Speaker 2: I don't know what your problem is with okay.
- 36:08Speaker 2: So we'll be like me, not you.
- 36:11Speaker 2: There's a difference.
- 36:12Speaker 3: We'll welcome Autumn in.
- 36:14Speaker 3: She's uh very good too.
- 36:16Speaker 3: You'll enjoy her.
- 36:17Speaker 3: She was uh part of the show last year, so welcome Autumn.
- 36:21Speaker 3: Um, was there anything else that I think that's it?
- 36:25Speaker 3: Adios, the Todd is gone.
- 36:27Speaker 1: All right, Vale.
- 36:28Speaker 1: Close the close out tonight's episode and bring it home for us.
- 36:32Speaker 2: All right.
