- Lucas: Welcome back to Learn Cantonese with Fexingo. I'm Lucas. Luna: And I'm Luna. Episode 109! Can you believe it? Lucas: I know. And today we're heading to the post office. Have you ever sent a letter in Hong Kong? Luna: I haven't, but I'd love to send a postcard to my friend. Lucas: Perfect. So today we'll learn a few key phrases for sending mail. First up: 'I want to send a letter'. In Cantonese, that's '我想寄信'. Luna: 我想寄信. Lucas: Good. '寄' means 'to send', '信' means 'letter'. So '我想寄信'. Luna: 我想寄信. I want to send a letter. Lucas: Exactly. Now, if you need to buy a stamp, you say '我想買郵票'. Luna: 我想買郵票. That's 'I want to buy a stamp'. Lucas: Right. '郵票' is 'stamp'. Let's practice: '我想買郵票'. Luna: 我想買郵票. I want to buy a stamp. Lucas: Great. Now, if you're sending something abroad, you need to say where. For example, '寄去美國' — 'send to the US'. Luna: 寄去美國. So '去' is 'to', and '美國' is 'America'. Lucas: Perfect. So you could say '我想寄信去美國' — 'I want to send a letter to the US'. Luna: 我想寄信去美國. That's a full sentence. Lucas: Yes. And then you'll want to ask 'how much?'. That's '幾多錢'. Luna: 幾多錢. How much money? Very useful. Lucas: Let's put it together in a little scene. Imagine you're at the post office counter. Luna: Okay, I'm ready. I'll be the customer. Lucas: You walk up and say: '我想寄信去美國'. Then: '我想買郵票'. Then: '幾多錢'? Luna: 我想寄信去美國. 我想買郵票. 幾多錢? Lucas: Perfect! The clerk would understand you completely. Let's practice once more. Luna: 我想寄信去美國. 我想買郵票. 幾多錢? Lucas: Awesome.
