- 1:53Speaker 3: job on social media. Walk-in Clinic in Flowood. And you

- 2:50Speaker 3: did we get the walk-in on a Friday or did
- 2:52Speaker 3: we have a cheat day?
- 2:54Speaker 2: No, well, we'll call it a half walk. I got
- 2:57Speaker 2: some in, but, you know. Well, first off, out of nowhere,
- 3:01Speaker 2: it started raining.
- 3:03Speaker 1: Really?
- 3:04Speaker 2: It was a terrible combination. Let me tell you about this.
- 3:06Speaker 2: So they're blacktopping a large portion of this parking lot,
- 3:10Speaker 2: which I didn't care for because they didn't even ask me. Like,
- 3:12Speaker 2: you're in my walking space.
- 3:14Speaker 4: Right.
- 3:15Speaker 2: So it really stunk. You know, the smell of when
- 3:18Speaker 2: they're blacktopping stuff and that just.
- 3:21Speaker 4: Oh, yeah.
- 3:21Speaker 2: Oh, all the fumes were in the air. Then it
- 3:24Speaker 2: starts raining. Pouring down rain, but in typical Mississippi fashion,
- 3:29Speaker 2: it stopped real quick, and then the sun came right
- 3:31Speaker 2: back out. So it was gross and steamy. And then
- 3:35Speaker 2: that smell was in the air. And it was just
- 3:38Speaker 2: a bad combo.
- 3:40Speaker 3: Yeah, that asphalt smell, that hot asphalt smell. I mean,
- 3:44Speaker 3: I'm surprised some company hasn't put a candle together, thinking
- 3:47Speaker 3: that would be cute. But that's one of the worst
- 3:49Speaker 3: smells out there.
- 3:49Speaker 2: Yeah, it was awful.
- 3:51Speaker 3: Is the building bare on Friday?
- 3:52Speaker 5: Okay.
- 3:53Speaker 2: Yeah, it's as bare as a usual Friday. I think
- 3:58Speaker 2: there's three of us here total.
- 4:00Speaker 3: Bare as a baby's butt.
- 4:03Speaker 2: Yes.
- 4:04Speaker 4: I don't know.
- 4:05Speaker 2: That sounds kind of weird. I don't know if I
- 4:06Speaker 2: want to go with that.
- 4:09Speaker 3: All right. We've got a lot to get to. We've
- 4:11Speaker 3: got high school football. We'll get into the top matchups
- 4:13Speaker 3: tonight going on around the state, courtesy of Mississippi Sports Medicine.
- 4:17Speaker 3: As last night was a weird night. Of course, Jude
- 4:19Speaker 3: Coase was weird, but also weird on the national scene.
- 4:22Speaker 3: West Florida began its football program in 2016, became a
- 4:26Speaker 3: Division II force, just transitioned to Division I, and upset
- 4:30Speaker 3: a top 20 Southern Illinois team in their Division I
- 4:33Speaker 3: opener last night. They were a 21-point underdog. And we
- 4:37Speaker 3: saw a couple of these come across last night. And
- 4:39Speaker 3: I think a lot of it is to do with
- 4:41Speaker 3: the transfer portal. You know, the transfer portal giveth and
- 4:44Speaker 3: it taketh away. And that, you know, you can build
- 4:47Speaker 3: a great team, and then you can also have a
- 4:54Speaker 3: team that's not put well together, a team that maybe
- 4:56Speaker 3: is not as cohesive as it needs to be. Maybe
- 4:58Speaker 3: you missed some players. So that happened last night. Also,
- 5:02Speaker 3: big shakeup at BYU yesterday. Football will now be split.
- 5:06Speaker 3: This is interesting. Football will now be split off from
- 5:09Speaker 3: the school's other athletic programs. They're the first university to
- 5:12Speaker 3: do this. Kalani Satake, the head football coach, now reports
- 5:15Speaker 3: directly to the university vice president, Keith Vorkink, instead of
- 5:20Speaker 3: Brian Santiago. So he's reporting directly to the VP of
- 5:25Speaker 3: the university, and they're totally splitting football out. Now, I'll
- 5:30Speaker 3: be interested to see if other institutions follow suit with
- 5:33Speaker 3: this when you talk about splitting football out and you're
- 5:37Speaker 3: making it totally separate from the other portions of the
- 5:39Speaker 3: athletic department. But BYU... is the first to do this. Also,
- 5:43Speaker 3: the Mountain West has prohibited NFL players from returning to
- 5:46Speaker 3: its league. This means if they appear on an NFL roster,
- 5:50Speaker 3: sign a contract, or do not withdraw from the pro draft,
- 5:54Speaker 3: they cannot play for the Mountain West. Also, LCU football
- 5:59Speaker 3: history makers, for the first time ever, an NAIA team
- 6:02Speaker 3: beats a scholarship-awarding NCAA Division I program, and it's your...
- 6:08Speaker 3: LCA Wildcats as they defeat I believe Villanova I may
- 6:13Speaker 3: be wrong on that but they won 42 to 37
- 6:14Speaker 3: so you got two victories big upsets last night as
- 6:19Speaker 3: Brad Powers reported last night late he says unbelievable start
- 6:23Speaker 3: to the college football season division two North Dakota Mines
- 6:28Speaker 3: they were a 40 point underdog and upset Drake 38
- 6:31Speaker 3: 35 division two Concord was a 29 and a half
- 6:34Speaker 3: point underdog and these were in sp plus upset davidson
- 6:39Speaker 3: 41 to 35 houston christian was a 24.5 point underdog
- 6:44Speaker 3: they upset southeast louisiana 34 to 28 ohio dominican was
- 6:49Speaker 3: a 21 point underdog and they upset morehead state 42
- 6:53Speaker 3: to 40 in three overtimes west florida they uh upset
- 6:57Speaker 3: they were 20 point underdog they upset southern illinois we
- 7:00Speaker 3: said that earlier 34 to 31 and nia louisiana christian
- 7:04Speaker 3: was a 15-point underdog in SP +. They beat Northwestern State.
- 7:08Speaker 3: It was Northwestern State, excuse me, 42-37. So you had one, two, three, four, five,
- 7:13Speaker 3: six upsets last night. Now, granted, these aren't teams that
- 7:17Speaker 3: you're going to see on game day. They're not going
- 7:19Speaker 3: to host college game day. They're not going to do
- 7:21Speaker 3: all the ritz and glamour, glitz and glamour and all
- 7:23Speaker 3: that stuff. But it's very interesting, I mean, that you
- 7:26Speaker 3: see these teams coming out now and upsetting some of
- 7:29Speaker 3: these Division I teams. Big night last night. Week zero
- 7:32Speaker 3: finally here, and we'll get into Brett McMurphy's predictions if
- 7:35Speaker 3: we get time. Several games tomorrow. I know you'll tune
- 7:38Speaker 3: in to some of these. It's not week one. It's
- 7:41Speaker 3: not where you're going to be. Some of you may
- 7:43Speaker 3: be glued to the TV tomorrow all day long, but
- 7:46Speaker 3: you may peek in there and check everything out. Michigan
- 7:49Speaker 3: has a 2029 home game with Bowling Green, if you care.
- 7:53Speaker 3: And NFL news, the Dallas Cowboys, well, NFL College. NFL College.
- 7:58Speaker 3: Dallas Cowboys wide receiver Jordan Hudson and several others have
- 8:02Speaker 3: been granted the temporary restraining order against the NCAA, the SEC,
- 8:07Speaker 3: Greg Sankey, and more, allowing him to play a fifth
- 8:10Speaker 3: season and enter the NCAA transfer portal. And here's what
- 8:13Speaker 3: I don't understand is Brett McMurphy's right. He says billable
- 8:16Speaker 3: hours remain undefeated. He's talking about the attorneys and all this.
- 8:20Speaker 3: How can another judge grant a TRO, the temporary restraining order,
- 8:24Speaker 3: that's the acronym they use, against the SEC– when the
- 8:28Speaker 3: SEC just made this rule in their own conference, and
- 8:33Speaker 3: now the judge says, no, you can go play. Don't
- 8:36Speaker 3: worry about what they say. So this is, again, I've
- 8:39Speaker 3: said this. Judges have way too much power on all
- 8:43Speaker 3: of this. And, you know, from politics to now football
- 8:47Speaker 3: and everything, you've got just these local judges. I may
- 8:52Speaker 3: become a judge, and B, we may make him a judge.
- 8:54Speaker 3: We may rein them in, and we may– We may
- 8:58Speaker 3: all just start making decisions. I think that's what we're
- 9:00Speaker 3: going to do. Hey, we're brought to you by Dwayne Atkinson,
- 9:02Speaker 3: Small Town Hunting Properties and Real Estate. Let him help
- 9:04Speaker 3: you buy property, property with land, property with timber, hunting land,
- 9:08Speaker 3: and more. And, of course, you can always sell your property.
- 9:11Speaker 3: That's Dwayne Atkinson, Small Town Hunting Property and Real Estate, 601-832-3075.
- 9:14Speaker 4: 601-832-3075.
- 9:16Speaker 3: Make sure you get him on Facebook.com, forward slash Dwayne Atkinson,
- 9:21Speaker 3: Small Town Hunting Properties and Real Estate. It is Friday,
- 9:24Speaker 3: and Heath Hinton will join us in 20 minutes.

- 9:52Speaker 2: For one of those moments, it only happens right.
- 9:55Speaker 1: Here on ESPN 105.9 The Zone and online at The
- 9:56Speaker 1: Zone 105.9.
- 10:18Speaker 3: We're brought to you by our friends at Vans Outdoors.

- 10:29Speaker 3: everything you need. Go to VansOutdoors.com. Make sure to find
- 10:32Speaker 3: them on Facebook as well. That's our good friends at
- 10:34Speaker 3: Vans Outdoors. Get out and shop around. Heath Hinton will
- 10:36Speaker 3: join us in the next segment. We'll talk a little
- 10:38Speaker 3: Southern Miss as they get ready to kick it off
- 10:42Speaker 3: next weekend. We're in Tupelo today, getting ready for Tupelo
- 10:44Speaker 3: Brandon tonight. You've got a whole list of high school
- 10:47Speaker 3: football as we move through the afternoon. And, of course,
- 10:51Speaker 3: we'll get into some of these top ten games of
- 10:54Speaker 3: the week. You can always text us, 601-885-3776. That is
- 10:58Speaker 3: the Cowboy Maloney's text line. Let me get through some
- 11:01Speaker 3: more of these notes real quickly here, and then we'll
- 11:04Speaker 3: get into some of these matchups. As expected, the SEC
- 11:07Speaker 3: and Greg Sank here added to the Louisiana eligibility complaint
- 11:11Speaker 3: preliminary injunction hearing is scheduled for Thursday.
- 11:14Speaker 5: And....
- 11:16Speaker 3: There is a, quote, show-calls order for the NCAA to
- 11:19Speaker 3: be held in contempt of court in Louisiana. So Louisiana
- 11:22Speaker 3: continues to be the ground zero for this thing, and
- 11:24Speaker 3: I'm not going to read this court docket here. There's
- 11:26Speaker 3: a lot to get into here, but that's just kind
- 11:28Speaker 3: of the rough outline as well. Also, college football playoff
- 11:33Speaker 3: executives are continuing to discuss implementing or an implementation of
- 11:39Speaker 3: a participation rule that would disqualify programs rostering certain athletes,
- 11:43Speaker 3: including former professional players, Sources tell Yahoo Sports a meeting
- 11:47Speaker 3: next week is expected to solidify a decision. And again,
- 11:51Speaker 3: the Mountain West prohibits professional athletes as well. ACC presidents
- 11:55Speaker 3: unanimously voted to adopt a policy prohibiting pro football and
- 12:00Speaker 3: basketball players from competing in the league. Sources tell Yahoo
- 12:03Speaker 3: Sports all power leagues now have a rule in place
- 12:06Speaker 3: at least for football. And that's everybody. Everybody has a
- 12:10Speaker 3: rule in place. It took about five days. for everybody
- 12:14Speaker 3: to get those rules in place. And now we see
- 12:17Speaker 3: the court cases starting to happen. Florida, the Gators, have
- 12:21Speaker 3: signed head basketball coach Todd Golden to a new six-year contract.
- 12:26Speaker 3: So there's some college basketball. And Missouri, for whatever reason,
- 12:32Speaker 3: has officially claimed its first college football national championship. How
- 12:35Speaker 3: about that? Congratulations to the Missouri Tigers, the 1960 team.
- 12:41Speaker 3: won the Big 8 and appeared number one in the
- 12:42Speaker 3: AP Bowl. Why did they not claim this before now?
- 12:46Speaker 3: This is interesting. The call from Missouri fans have been heard.
- 12:50Speaker 3: The Tigers are ready to recognize the 1960 football team
- 12:54Speaker 3: as national champions. The Tigers were also celebrating 100 years
- 12:57Speaker 3: at Memorial Stadium when they host Troy in Week 3.
- 13:01Speaker 3: Now an extra celebration will be added as well. The
- 13:04Speaker 3: decision follows a resolution in August from the United States
- 13:07Speaker 3: Senate recognizing the 1960 football I didn't even know it
- 13:10Speaker 3: was a Senate resolution. 1960 Missouri team and their spot
- 13:14Speaker 3: in the college football history books. Quote, we appreciate Senator
- 13:18Speaker 3: Eric Schmidt and the U.S. Senate for recognizing the accomplishment
- 13:22Speaker 3: of our 1960 football team and for bringing renewed attention
- 13:26Speaker 3: to a remarkable group of Tigers, Missouri Athletics Director Liard
- 13:30Speaker 3: Veach said the 1960 team has an important place in
- 13:36Speaker 3: Missouri football history. And after reviewing the historical records, we
- 13:42Speaker 3: believe it's appropriate to honor that team as national champions.
- 13:45Speaker 3: That was the year after Ole Miss. Chris Siebel just
- 13:48Speaker 3: passed me that note. Claim theirs. The recognition is based
- 13:52Speaker 3: on the polling system after several national selectors recognized by
- 13:55Speaker 3: the NCAA, which named Missouri its 1960 champion under coach
- 13:59Speaker 3: Dave DeVin. or divine, rather, the Tigers of 1960 climbed
- 14:04Speaker 3: to number one in the AP poll, headed into the
- 14:06Speaker 3: regular season finale after Kansas forfeited the final matchup due
- 14:09Speaker 3: to an ineligible player. The Tigers ended the season with
- 14:12Speaker 3: an unblemished record. Quote, we have a unique opportunity this
- 14:16Speaker 3: year to recognize the Tigers who built the history and
- 14:19Speaker 3: tradition of Missouri football and keeping our eyes firmly on
- 14:23Speaker 3: the future as we celebrate 100 years of Memorial Stadium.
- 14:27Speaker 3: and opened its centennial project, we want to properly honor
- 14:30Speaker 3: the 1960 team and its legacy as well. The 1960 season,
- 14:37Speaker 3: let's see, I'm just curious why they're just now doing
- 14:39Speaker 3: this now. Missouri beat opponents by a margin of 288
- 14:42Speaker 3: to 70 across 10 games that year. That didn't involve
- 14:45Speaker 3: that one forfeit. The season ended on an Orange Bowl
- 14:48Speaker 3: where the Tigers took on No. 4 Navy and Heisman
- 14:50Speaker 3: winner Joe Bellino. They beat them in shipment 21-14. So
- 14:55Speaker 3: they didn't allow 20 points in a single game that year, blah, blah, blah. Okay,
- 14:59Speaker 3: why are they just now doing this now? Because if
- 15:01Speaker 3: they were the AP number one team, they should have
- 15:03Speaker 3: been awarded the national championship that year. Now, granted, you
- 15:06Speaker 3: had several different outlets back then, you know, from one
- 15:11Speaker 3: publication to the other. Let me look at something real quick.
- 15:17Speaker 3: I want to look at, real quick, let me pull this.
- 15:23Speaker 3: Who was the 1960... Because this has got me perplexed
- 15:27Speaker 3: why Missouri is just doing this now. Let me look.
- 15:31Speaker 2: 1960.
- 15:31Speaker 3: Here we go.
- 15:32Speaker 4: 1960.
- 15:33Speaker 3: It says Minnesota and Ole Miss. Ole Miss got the
- 15:41Speaker 3: FWAA National Championship in 1960. Minnesota got the AP, the NFF,
- 15:46Speaker 3: and the UPI. So maybe that was a misprint because
- 15:50Speaker 3: what I'm looking at here, Minnesota got it, but now
- 15:54Speaker 3: They're going to give it to Missouri. Missouri's just going
- 15:55Speaker 3: to claim this thing. I've told you, just start claiming that.
- 15:58Speaker 3: Mississippi State should claim the 1941 National Championship. People have
- 16:02Speaker 3: said that for years. I'm not the only one. I've
- 16:04Speaker 3: got to credit Stephen Agostinelli, six-pack speak. He started this.
- 16:10Speaker 3: They need to claim the 1941 National Championship. It's got
- 16:14Speaker 3: Minnesota as the AP winner. Look, Minnesota's got a lot
- 16:18Speaker 3: of championships from way back when, 1940, 1941. Um, they've
- 16:22Speaker 3: got 1960. I mean, Minnesota 19 and you go back here, Minnesota, 1933, 34,
- 16:28Speaker 3: 35 and 36 champion.
- 16:31Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 16:32Speaker 3: Minnesota's got a lot of national championships from way, way back.
- 16:35Speaker 4: 601-885-3776.
- 16:36Speaker 3: Uh, let me see real quickly. One more note here.
- 16:44Speaker 3: TCU is a heavy favorite against North Carolina and Dublin.
- 16:47Speaker 3: When you look at polymarket odds, a 76% chance that
- 16:50Speaker 3: TCU wins this football game, and I would say that
- 16:54Speaker 3: that's accurate. North Carolina would have to do everything right,
- 16:58Speaker 3: and nothing has gone right for North Carolina. Also, the
- 17:02Speaker 3: FBS Oversight Committee has announced changes to the 2027 college
- 17:05Speaker 3: football calendar. Season start moves to week zero. That means
- 17:12Speaker 3: this is the last year, at least, for the near
- 17:14Speaker 3: future where week zero is week zero. The season will
- 17:16Speaker 3: start next week on what would be week zero. So
- 17:19Speaker 3: next year, end of August, last weekend, we'll be playing
- 17:23Speaker 3: college football in one year of tomorrow for week one.
- 17:27Speaker 3: Spring practice can now have two OTA like periods, only
- 17:31Speaker 3: 21 practices. So you can break it up. You can
- 17:33Speaker 3: go 10 and 11. You can go 15 and six,
- 17:37Speaker 3: whatever you want to do. January transfer portal moves to
- 17:39Speaker 3: 10 days as well. Also, uh, Lane Kiffin says he
- 17:46Speaker 3: did not provoke recent lawsuits filed by NFL players against
- 17:49Speaker 3: the NCAA or SEC. Quote, these kids made these decisions
- 17:53Speaker 3: on their own with attorneys of what to do, and
- 17:56Speaker 3: this was a while back that they made these decisions.
- 18:00Speaker 3: How does he even know this? I think Lane Kiffin's
- 18:05Speaker 3: knee-deep in all this, personally, and I think most people
- 18:07Speaker 3: believe that as well. And Tampa Bay Buccaneers edge rusher
- 18:10Speaker 3: Jack Pyburn, who's been at the center of this, will
- 18:11Speaker 3: return to LSU if he's not rostered on an NFL

- 20:06Speaker 3: Heath Hinton on X, Big Gold Nation, part of the
- 20:08Speaker 3: On3 Network. Talking Southern Miss College Sports. Heath, welcome in, brother.
- 20:11Speaker 3: Happy Friday.
- 20:13Speaker 5: Hey, Jake. How you doing, my friend?
- 20:15Speaker 2: Good to talk to you.
- 20:16Speaker 3: Yes, brother, good to talk to you as well. All right,
- 20:19Speaker 3: so we know all the conferences now have made statements,
- 20:23Speaker 3: you know, that includes the Sun Belt and everybody saying, hey,
- 20:25Speaker 3: we're not going to have pro players coming back. That's
- 20:28Speaker 3: a non-negotiable. But now we've got lawsuits coming out and
- 20:31Speaker 3: judges that are saying, hey, we've got a temporary restraining
- 20:33Speaker 3: order where you can get in. Man, this whole thing
- 20:35Speaker 3: is a mess.
- 20:35Speaker 4: Isn't it?
- 20:37Speaker 5: Yeah, it's nothing but judges. Man, when have we ever
- 20:42Speaker 5: thought that federal judges would be controlling college football?
- 20:45Speaker 4: Right, yeah.
- 20:47Speaker 7: How crazy is that? How crazy is that? Not the NCAA,
- 20:50Speaker 7: mind you.
- 20:51Speaker 5: Not the conferences. Federal judges control what happens in college football.
- 20:56Speaker 5: We've missed the mark somewhere, buddy. We have missed the mark.
- 21:01Speaker 3: Heath Hinton on your radio talk of college football, and
- 21:03Speaker 3: I agree with you. It really missed the mark on this.
- 21:06Speaker 3: Has there been any comment out of the administration of
- 21:08Speaker 3: Southern Miss, you know, just one way or the other
- 21:10Speaker 3: on any of this?
- 21:12Speaker 8: Well, no.
- 21:12Speaker 5: I mean, they had to go and You tell kids
- 21:15Speaker 5: they're eligible, and then there's three different court cases, and
- 21:20Speaker 5: they turn a state court case. I guess they make
- 21:24Speaker 5: it class action somehow, and then that gets overturned, and
- 21:27Speaker 5: now these kids are having to go to each state.
- 21:29Speaker 5: So Southern Miss had three kids that went for a judge,
- 21:32Speaker 5: and that got overruled. Anyway, they're eligible now.
- 21:38Speaker 7: I'm not sure when that's.
- 21:40Speaker 5: Now, that court case will meet again, I'm pretty sure,
- 21:42Speaker 5: in a couple of weeks, and then they'll have to
- 21:43Speaker 5: go through this process again. It's just a, I think,
- 21:47Speaker 5: personally what I think is the NCAA wants this. I
- 21:51Speaker 5: think the NCAA's enjoying this, and I'll tell you why.
- 21:53Speaker 5: Because it's making people lean more towards what they're doing
- 21:58Speaker 5: in Washington. And I think that's what.
- 22:01Speaker 7: The NCAA wants.
- 22:02Speaker 5: So I'm not sure that the NCAA's totally upset with this,
- 22:04Speaker 5: to be honest with you.
- 22:06Speaker 3: Now, I get what you're saying, and I haven't thought
- 22:09Speaker 3: about it from that angle, but I think if I
- 22:10Speaker 3: understand you correctly is, hey, if the NCAA just allows
- 22:14Speaker 3: this to happen and kind of let the chaos control,
- 22:17Speaker 3: then eventually everybody will say, hey, we need help, any
- 22:20Speaker 3: kind of help. Yes, let's pass this legislation in Washington
- 22:24Speaker 3: at some point. Whatever we've got to do, let's pass
- 22:26Speaker 3: it just to get this quote fixed.
- 22:30Speaker 5: Well, take, for instance, look at the Big Ten SEC.
- 22:33Speaker 5: Their latest things were, hey, we– We probably need to
- 22:37Speaker 5: get this in Washington passed.
- 22:39Speaker 7: They weren't really pushing it before.
- 22:41Speaker 5: So all this craziness that's happening, people are seeing it,
- 22:46Speaker 5: and they're finally going, look, we got to have some standards,
- 22:49Speaker 5: some type of rules, man. Nobody wants the federal government
- 22:53Speaker 5: to do it, but if judges are going to get involved.
- 22:55Speaker 7: You've already got the government. You might as well go ahead.
- 22:57Speaker 5: And get Congress to say, all right, we're going to
- 23:00Speaker 5: step our foot in and put some rules in place.
- 23:03Speaker 5: It may not be perfect, but at least it's something.
- 23:06Speaker 5: Instead of, you know, all these kids having to go
- 23:09Speaker 5: to state courts to get eligible. This is not what
- 23:12Speaker 5: college sports are meant to be. The NCAA opened the door.
- 23:16Speaker 5: I mean, judges opened the door with pay to play.
- 23:19Speaker 5: NCAA tried to block it. Then they've got all of
- 23:22Speaker 5: this other stuff that's happened. All of this has happened
- 23:25Speaker 5: once judges started overturning the NCAA. And now the NCAA says, here,
- 23:30Speaker 5: you see the craziness that's happening here. We like what
- 23:34Speaker 5: Washington's doing, so let's let it happen and push people
- 23:37Speaker 5: towards Washington. That's the quickest way to them, I believe,
- 23:40Speaker 5: that they see that that bill will get passed.
- 23:44Speaker 3: Heath Hinton talking college football and, of course, Southern Miss football,
- 23:47Speaker 3: Friday edition of your program. All right, Heath, so we're
- 23:50Speaker 3: about a week away. Any news of relevance as now,
- 23:53Speaker 3: of course, Southern Miss, like everybody, they're into full game
- 23:56Speaker 3: week mode. It's not just game week prep for the opponent.
- 24:00Speaker 3: It's you know, hey, how are we going to come
- 24:01Speaker 3: out of the tunnel? How are we going to line
- 24:02Speaker 3: up on the field? How are we going to stretch?
- 24:04Speaker 3: How are we going to, you know, do all this?
- 24:06Speaker 3: Any news of notes out of Southern Miss camp?
- 24:08Speaker 5: Well, you know, Ethan Hampton, the quarterback, he's had an
- 24:10Speaker 5: injured hand. That's still up in the air what's.
- 24:13Speaker 7: Going to happen. I don't know.
- 24:15Speaker 5: I mean, if I'm Blake Anderson, if I need Ethan
- 24:19Speaker 5: Hampton to beat Alcorn, we've got bigger issues. This is
- 24:22Speaker 5: a quarterback injury. I might hold him out, but that's
- 24:25Speaker 5: his call. He really hasn't. Most scrimmages, I think he
- 24:30Speaker 5: was in three snaps in the first scrimmages. Didn't take
- 24:34Speaker 5: in the second because of that bruise to his thumb.
- 24:38Speaker 5: Those injuries are just weird and take different time to heal,
- 24:41Speaker 5: so we don't know about that. But still, it seems
- 24:43Speaker 5: like everything else followed into place. We're going to want
- 24:46Speaker 5: to know a lot more about this team. But, yeah,
- 24:48Speaker 5: you're talking about a team with, you know, 70-plus new
- 24:51Speaker 5: players going into game week that nobody knows what's going
- 24:54Speaker 5: on really in the FBS except very few. So it
- 24:57Speaker 5: should be interesting to see how the team adjusts and
- 25:01Speaker 5: gets ready to play for this first upcoming home game.
- 25:04Speaker 3: Yeah, we saw last night there were six upsets, you know,
- 25:07Speaker 3: in the FCS world of, you know, a couple of
- 25:10Speaker 3: NAIA schools beat some Division I programs. And I think
- 25:14Speaker 3: that's a product of this transfer portal. And I think,
- 25:15Speaker 3: you know, I said it earlier, this is just my
- 25:17Speaker 3: stupid take, is, you know, the transfer portal giveth and
- 25:20Speaker 3: it taketh away. So meaning, you know, you may get
- 25:23Speaker 3: a great team this year, And then the next year,
- 25:25Speaker 3: you may not get such a great team. Your evaluation
- 25:27Speaker 3: may be off or flawed in some places, some players,
- 25:29Speaker 3: maybe some character issues.
- 25:30Speaker 4: Who knows?
- 25:31Speaker 3: There's no chemistry. But it's interesting that we saw that
- 25:33Speaker 3: many upsets last night.
- 25:35Speaker 4: It is.
- 25:36Speaker 5: And Southern Miss, you've got 70-plus new players. I know
- 25:40Speaker 5: I'm harping on it, but that's just a whole team
- 25:44Speaker 5: of turnover. That's not even really much in place to
- 25:48Speaker 5: help guide the guys that are coming in.
- 25:50Speaker 7: Even back in the day when you would have Say.
- 25:53Speaker 5: You'd have 15 and 20 transfers coming in. You still
- 25:56Speaker 5: had a bunch of guys on the team that were there.
- 25:57Speaker 5: They knew the process.
- 25:58Speaker 7: They knew what was going on.
- 25:59Speaker 5: They knew where they were staying the night before so
- 26:02Speaker 5: they could help these guys, you know, acclimate to what's happening.
- 26:07Speaker 5: Now nobody knows what's going on. So everybody's kind of,
- 26:10Speaker 5: you know, are really experiencing things for the first time.
- 26:14Speaker 5: How do they handle that at this level? It's going
- 26:16Speaker 5: to be interesting to see. I think that. Blake Anderson,
- 26:20Speaker 5: a guy who has gone into places and won in
- 26:24Speaker 5: his first year, who has rebuilt programs, thinks he's the
- 26:27Speaker 5: right guy for the job. Is it going to be
- 26:30Speaker 5: something that camp's going to last longer than really just August?
- 26:35Speaker 5: Are they going to need two, three, four weeks into
- 26:38Speaker 5: the season because of the big turnover? I don't know.
- 26:40Speaker 5: I think you look at Marshall last year. Marshall started
- 26:43Speaker 5: off really slow, but at the end of the season
- 26:46Speaker 5: was a really good Sunbelt football team. And I think
- 26:50Speaker 5: at Southern Miss, you kind of take that approach, look
- 26:52Speaker 5: at it, and try to emulate that. So we'll see
- 26:55Speaker 5: what happens. A lot of football yet to be played,
- 26:57Speaker 5: but everybody's excited to kind of get the hell going
- 27:01Speaker 5: on and hit somebody else.
- 27:03Speaker 3: There's no doubt about it. So when does the naming rights,
- 27:05Speaker 3: does that take effect this year or next year?
- 27:07Speaker 5: I believe it takes place this year. Yeah, it'll be
- 27:10Speaker 5: Renaissance Bank Stadium. Still going to call it The Rock,
- 27:14Speaker 5: but Renaissance Bank Stadium. What a great deal for Southern Miss,
- 27:18Speaker 5: and I'm understanding maybe a jersey patch, and then things
- 27:22Speaker 5: are going to have naming rights.
- 27:23Speaker 7: To other facilities.
- 27:24Speaker 5: So, yeah, just a big money influx that schools like
- 27:29Speaker 5: Southern Miss really need, and I think it was a
- 27:32Speaker 5: huge deal for that to take place for them.
- 27:35Speaker 3: Heath Hinton talking Southern Miss and the NCAA and everything
- 27:38Speaker 3: in college sports. Get him on X at BGN. Heath
- 27:41Speaker 3: Hinton gets you a subscription if you're a Southern Miss fan.

- 27:53Speaker 7: you then.
- 27:54Speaker 3: Thanks so much. Heath Hinton on your radio. And, of course,
- 27:57Speaker 3: if you're a Southern Miss fan, get you a subscription.
- 28:01Speaker 3: Let's see here. This just in. How about this for
- 28:03Speaker 3: some breaking news? A truck carrying 40,000 pounds of Pabst
- 28:05Speaker 3: Blue Ribbon has been stolen in California. What's believed to
- 28:11Speaker 3: be the largest beer heist in the history of the world.
- 28:16Speaker 3: So how about that? I mean, that's ever. So 40,000
- 28:19Speaker 3: pounds of Pabst blue ribbon. That is quite fascinating. We
- 28:24Speaker 3: are brought to you by the MHSAA. Officially become official today.
- 28:27Speaker 3: Go to M-I-S-S-H-S-A-A.com. If you want to become an official

- 28:36Speaker 3: More coming your way. Ty Harden, the head football coach

- 29:36Speaker 3: long time. next few, several weeks. It'll be, it feels
- 29:38Speaker 3: like a long time, right? But get out and enjoy
- 29:40Speaker 3: everything that they have to offer and let them help
- 29:43Speaker 3: you enjoy your property better with a product from Rebel
- 29:45Speaker 3: Outdoor Power and Rebel Ace Hardware. We'll have Ty Harden,
- 29:48Speaker 3: the head football coach, Tupelo Golden Wave coming up here
- 29:51Speaker 3: in about 15 minutes. Chris Siebel here, uh, who is
- 29:53Speaker 3: with us today. He is on your radio. Um, Chris,
- 29:57Speaker 3: I found this funny in Beav as well. Louisiana Senator
- 29:59Speaker 3: John Kennedy was on with Clay Travis, and he was
- 30:03Speaker 3: talking about Lane Kiffin at LSU. He's a big LSU guy.
- 30:06Speaker 3: He said, Lane Kiffin can go hit on Christy Noem's
- 30:10Speaker 3: husband in a dark cocktail lounge. We don't care as
- 30:12Speaker 3: long as he wins, but he better win. We don't
- 30:17Speaker 3: care what you do as long as you win. That's it.
- 30:19Speaker 3: I mean, you just got to win. I mean, that's
- 30:21Speaker 3: all it is is just win. Man, this stuff in
- 30:24Speaker 3: college sports is crazy, isn't it?
- 30:25Speaker 4: Man, it is.
- 30:26Speaker 8: And I feel like, you know, last year we said
- 30:28Speaker 8: the same thing. It couldn't get any worse. And then,
- 30:31Speaker 8: I mean, here, hold my beer and watch this. It
- 30:34Speaker 8: got ten times worse. I mean, the judges, the junctions,
- 30:36Speaker 8: everything that you can think of. And what I find interesting, though, is,
- 30:41Speaker 8: you know, one of the big talks, of course, I
- 30:42Speaker 8: know you talked about it this week, is the players
- 30:44Speaker 8: coming back from the NFL.
- 30:45Speaker 4: Well, they're coming back for money. They're going to make money.
- 30:48Speaker 4: I mean, it's a mess. If you would have told
- 30:51Speaker 4: me ten years ago we would be here right now,
- 30:53Speaker 4: I'd have latched you out the building. Yeah.
- 30:55Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean, it just– It doesn't make sense. You know,
- 30:58Speaker 3: we saw a precursor of this when a few basketball
- 31:01Speaker 3: players came back from the NBA and, you know, the
- 31:04Speaker 3: D League and, you know, Alabama had the one player
- 31:08Speaker 3: that was, I think he played one game and then
- 31:09Speaker 3: he was ruled out. I can't remember his name, but
- 31:12Speaker 3: Betty Ako, I believe. I think it was. That's not it.
- 31:14Speaker 3: Bobby said that's not it.
- 31:16Speaker 4: Bobby would know.
- 31:17Speaker 3: Yeah, Bobby's a big Alabama guy, so he would know that.
- 31:18Speaker 8: My question is, and this is everybody's question, how do
- 31:22Speaker 8: you stop it?
- 31:24Speaker 4: Where does it stop? I think.
- 31:27Speaker 3: Well, here's the thing. All right, so if you go
- 31:29Speaker 3: by the rules, which do the rules even matter, the
- 31:32Speaker 3: rules put in place moving forward, you've got five years
- 31:36Speaker 3: to play five, and if you're 19 and get into college,
- 31:39Speaker 3: that starts the clock, or if the first year you
- 31:40Speaker 3: go into college at 18, then you've got five to
- 31:43Speaker 3: play five, or if you come in early at 17, whatever.
- 31:46Speaker 3: They're going to say, hey, if we can just get
- 31:47Speaker 3: through this year. Now, some of these guys may get
- 31:50Speaker 3: locked into court because here's the thing. If you're– Well,
- 31:55Speaker 3: let's take LSU off the table. They look rogue anyway.
- 31:58Speaker 3: They really do. They look like they're just ready to
- 32:00Speaker 3: do whatever. Let's just go Tennessee. We'll take a team
- 32:02Speaker 3: off the beaten path. And Tennessee has a player that
- 32:05Speaker 3: one of these judges says, yes, hey, under this new
- 32:08Speaker 3: temporary TOR, temporary restraining order, you can play. Well, the
- 32:11Speaker 3: SEC says I can't. Well, the team's going to roll
- 32:13Speaker 3: him out. They're not going to physically keep the guy
- 32:15Speaker 3: off the field. So if he plays, do you really
- 32:18Speaker 3: risk playing him? Because the SEC has rules in place now.
- 32:21Speaker 3: you're going to lose your games, your coach is going
- 32:22Speaker 3: to get suspended for 50% of the season, and then
- 32:25Speaker 3: you're going to lose any of your kind of arbitration
- 32:27Speaker 3: rights with the SEC. Do you take that risk? Because
- 32:32Speaker 3: it's going to get locked in litigation, and then who
- 32:35Speaker 3: knows who's going to win.
- 32:36Speaker 8: So does that hold them responsible even though it's locked
- 32:38Speaker 8: up in litigation right now? So technically now they're able
- 32:41Speaker 8: to do that. So they can't go back. Eligible by who, though?
- 32:46Speaker 8: Because if the SEC says no, but the judge says yes...
- 32:50Speaker 8: I guess technically the judge is the hierarchy here, but
- 32:54Speaker 8: I don't know.
- 32:56Speaker 3: We're in uncharted territory. It is absolutely crazy.
- 33:01Speaker 8: My brain doesn't comprehend exactly what's going on, but your schools,
- 33:05Speaker 8: they don't even know what's going on.
- 33:08Speaker 4: Do we do this? Do we do that? Do we
- 33:09Speaker 4: do this? Do we do that? Can we play this guy?
- 33:12Speaker 3: I would not want to be anywhere near a college
- 33:13Speaker 3: football coach. I used to think the best job in
- 33:15Speaker 3: the world was to fire a college football coach.
- 33:17Speaker 4: No, not anymore.
- 33:19Speaker 3: Yeah, and, you know, me sitting way out here that
- 33:23Speaker 3: doesn't make a penny close to what a college coach makes,
- 33:27Speaker 3: never will, I would say, hey, let's just play it
- 33:29Speaker 3: safe and not get them. But if you're making $ 8 million,
- 33:32Speaker 3: $ 9 million, then you know your job's on the line.
- 33:35Speaker 3: And if you feel like you can win another ball
- 33:37Speaker 3: game or two by bringing another player or two in,
- 33:39Speaker 3: then you're probably going to risk it all.
- 33:41Speaker 8: Yeah, I mean, like you said, whatever it takes to win,
- 33:44Speaker 8: and that's the mentality, and it doesn't matter. how you
- 33:47Speaker 8: get there, who you play and, or what you do
- 33:50Speaker 8: to get there. I mean, it's just so messed up.
- 33:52Speaker 8: I mean, and I love college football. I love football period.
- 33:55Speaker 8: I mean, but it's becoming so unpure all across the board.
- 33:58Speaker 8: You know, it used to be always NFL. So, you know,
- 34:01Speaker 8: it's all about the money.
- 34:01Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 34:02Speaker 8: But to me, it almost seems that college football is
- 34:05Speaker 8: worse than NFL football right now. NFL football, you know, it's,
- 34:08Speaker 8: it's there. This is strictly a business. They're out there
- 34:10Speaker 8: playing college football. It's just a mess right now. And,
- 34:14Speaker 8: It's almost sometimes fun not to watch, and I hate
- 34:17Speaker 8: to say that because I love it.
- 34:18Speaker 3: There is no doubt about it. All right, so we've
- 34:20Speaker 3: got a full slate of high school football. Boy, how
- 34:23Speaker 3: about Meridian last night? I want to give a big
- 34:25Speaker 3: shout-out to the Meridian Wildcats and Tony Vance. We're going
- 34:28Speaker 3: to try to get him on next week. Meridian wins
- 34:31Speaker 3: big against Ocean Springs last night. I think it was
- 34:33Speaker 3: 40 to 9.
- 34:34Speaker 4: 41 to 9.
- 34:36Speaker 3: To 9.
- 34:36Speaker 4: Or 47 to 9.
- 34:37Speaker 3: 47 to 9. And I haven't seen really anything on that.
- 34:41Speaker 3: But I think that game.
- 34:43Speaker 4: May have been. That game was it. No, that game
- 34:45Speaker 4: was at Ocean Springs. At Ocean Springs.
- 34:46Speaker 3: I know Ocean Springs lost a lot of guys, but,
- 34:49Speaker 3: you know, just what a big win, and I think
- 34:51Speaker 3: Madison Central beat Pearl 16-7 last night, so we're off
- 34:54Speaker 3: and running.
- 34:55Speaker 8: Yeah, and I think what definitely shocked me was the
- 34:58Speaker 8: Ocean Springs-Meridian score. Now, we both know that Tony Vance
- 35:01Speaker 8: coming in to Meridian, you know, there's talent in Meridian.
- 35:05Speaker 8: There's always been talent in Meridian. If you can get
- 35:07Speaker 8: the right coach in there, and it seems that Meridian
- 35:10Speaker 8: has kind of made that step in the right direction,
- 35:12Speaker 8: which is Makes Region 3-7A that much tougher with a
- 35:19Speaker 8: coach like Tony Vance and Meridian, though. Don't know what
- 35:22Speaker 8: to think much about the Pearl-Madison Central. 17-7 was the final.
- 35:26Speaker 8: I got 16-7, and then they kicked the extra point.
- 35:28Speaker 8: It was 17-7. From what I've been told, neither team
- 35:32Speaker 8: looked great. But then again, it's also early in the year.
- 35:35Speaker 8: I mean, a lot of things happen early in the season,
- 35:37Speaker 8: so that could change midway through.
- 35:39Speaker 4: I know Pearl, of course, lost third place. Durr.
- 35:43Speaker 8: He's no longer their quarterback, so they've revamped it. I
- 35:45Speaker 8: think Atwood is the last name of the quarterback now
- 35:49Speaker 8: that's there. I think he's a sophomore, I do believe.
- 35:52Speaker 8: Learning pains for him as well. Mass Central, of course,
- 35:54Speaker 8: I know they lost their running back. They went to
- 35:56Speaker 8: a private school in Tennessee. Maybe changing that up last minute,
- 36:01Speaker 8: but kind of shocked at that. Other than that, I'll.
- 36:04Speaker 4: Tell you what, also, Juco last night, wild.
- 36:08Speaker 3: Around the state, there was a lot of upsets. I
- 36:10Speaker 3: say upsets, what's perceived as upsets, but JUCO, just like
- 36:13Speaker 3: these college teams, I mean, they're churning rosters. You know,
- 36:16Speaker 3: it's a two-year deal typically unless you get redshirted and
- 36:18Speaker 3: you stay there for three. They're churning rosters, 20, 30,
- 36:21Speaker 3: 40 players. You know, so the powers that you may
- 36:25Speaker 3: think are powers may not be the powers that you
- 36:28Speaker 3: thought they were.
- 36:28Speaker 4: Well, that's right.
- 36:29Speaker 8: I mean, going to the fourth quarter, it was, I think, 14-14.
- 36:33Speaker 8: That was Gulf Coast and Cahoma. Cahoma's kind of been
- 36:36Speaker 8: off the beaten path forever in JUCO. I think Gulf
- 36:40Speaker 8: Coast ended up pulling away late. I think they won
- 36:43Speaker 8: 27-14 or 21-14. But, look, Mississippi Delta, kind of the
- 36:46Speaker 8: same way that Cahoma's been, they go into Colen last
- 36:50Speaker 8: night and beat them 28-27. So, it'll wind up upset
- 36:54Speaker 8: Hines last night, 28-27 or 29-28.
- 36:58Speaker 4: 28-27.
- 36:59Speaker 1: Yep.
- 36:59Speaker 4: So, you know, I should know that.
- 37:01Speaker 8: I was actually on the broadcast, and I showed you
- 37:04Speaker 8: how tired that, I mean, when you start doing game
- 37:06Speaker 8: week to week, you get tired pretty quick. So, You know,
- 37:09Speaker 8: it's funny. They changed the format in JUCO this year.
- 37:11Speaker 8: There's ten games. It's been nine for as long as
- 37:14Speaker 8: I can remember. And also one team from the north,
- 37:16Speaker 8: one team from the south that make the playoffs. So
- 37:20Speaker 8: a lot of things changed in college football.
- 37:23Speaker 3: One question for you, and we've got to take a
- 37:25Speaker 3: break here and get to the top of the hour.
- 37:27Speaker 3: Are you in on TCU like everybody?
- 37:29Speaker 4: I called you yesterday and told you that.
- 37:31Speaker 3: Well, I'm making sure you haven't changed your mind.
- 37:32Speaker 4: No, absolutely. And that game is in Dublin. Is that right?
- 37:36Speaker 4: It's in Dublin, Ireland?
- 37:37Speaker 1: Yes. Ireland?
- 37:38Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 37:38Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 37:39Speaker 4: North Carolina, that's a mess right now. It is. Just
- 37:43Speaker 4: like college football, shall we say. It's a big mess. So,
- 37:46Speaker 4: you know, I like TCU.
- 37:47Speaker 8: I got it at 8.5, so I had a little
- 37:50Speaker 8: bit extra than you. I know it dropped a little
- 37:51Speaker 8: bit when you got it. So I like TCU to
- 37:55Speaker 8: win big over there. Yeah, I think they are as well.
