- 0:15Speaker 1: Spencer new Art, and today we are joined by special
- 0:18Speaker 1: guest Clay Nucom Clay, how are you feeling about this
- 0:20Speaker 1: round of trivia? Man, I'm feeling confident, but uh, just
- 0:25Speaker 1: because I've been studying so much. But I feel good.
- 0:27Speaker 1: How do you? How do you study for Meat Eater Trivia?
- 0:29Speaker 1: Just every day? Man? Just cram every day, Encyclopedia, Wikipedia,
- 0:34Speaker 1: just everything podcast. Now, we don't ask Steve Ronnella here today,
- 0:41Speaker 1: but we are joined by Janice Patelis, Ryan Callahan, Seth Morris, Chester,
- 0:45Speaker 1: Floyd cren Schneider, and Corey Caulkins. If you're not familiar,
- 0:49Speaker 1: this is a ten round quiz show with questions born
- 0:51Speaker 1: out of meat eaters for verticals which are hunting, fishing,
- 0:54Speaker 1: conservation and cooking, and there is a prize. Meat Eater
- 0:58Speaker 1: will donate five dollars to the conservation organization of the
- 1:02Speaker 1: winners choosing. I'm gonna give listeners a peek behind the
- 1:05Speaker 1: curtain here. We are recording today's episode in early May,
- 1:08Speaker 1: but it likely won't publish for a couple of months. Uh,
- 1:11Speaker 1: this is a break in case of an emergency show.
- 1:13Speaker 1: If we ever hit a stretch where we can't get
- 1:15Speaker 1: together to record a new episode, this is what you're
- 1:18Speaker 1: going to hear. Now, you're honest. Why don't you make
- 1:20Speaker 1: some predictions about the world, Like two months from now,
- 1:23Speaker 1: do you have like an NBA champion, or who's gonna
- 1:25Speaker 1: be sloppyest it says swdding or how many turkeys are
- 1:27Speaker 1: gonna kill this month? Uh? NBA? You know, I don't
- 1:31Speaker 1: even know who's in the playoffs. Buddy, it's like Pete
- 1:35Speaker 1: Alonso has hit Uh let's see July almost twenty home runs.
- 1:45Speaker 1: Oh man, it's a heck of a pace. Yeah, buddy,
- 1:47Speaker 1: he's the man. What else do you want to predict?
- 1:50Speaker 1: Whatever you want, Seth, who's gonna be the sloppiest at
- 1:52Speaker 1: your wedding? When we record again after the show, you're
- 1:55Speaker 1: gonna have an answer for us. But right now, what's
- 1:57Speaker 1: your prediction? Not Clayton Nucom, not uh bhil Taylor. Maybe
- 2:05Speaker 1: I could say it. I wasn't invited to. I wasn't
- 2:10Speaker 1: gonna say it. I can't remember if I'm invited. Yeah.
- 2:13Speaker 1: I think you are um really awkward and you're invited.
- 2:24Speaker 1: Now you're invited, and you better get hams. I don't know,
- 2:29Speaker 1: it could be. I mean, I think Chester is gonna
- 2:32Speaker 1: go pretty pretty hard. It seems like a safe bet.
- 2:37Speaker 1: He's just gonna be so happy. He's just gonna be
- 2:41Speaker 1: so happy. I can't be putting the brakes on. I
- 2:44Speaker 1: agree with that. I'll put I'll put a fiber in
- 2:46Speaker 1: the chap like anyone else. Want to love any more
- 2:50Speaker 1: predictions out there before we move on. It's your chance
- 2:54Speaker 1: you look greater, look like a fool, Chester and I
- 2:56Speaker 1: will have taken uh for place at four tournament. Heck yeah,
- 3:02Speaker 1: and that's like what d T teams or something is
- 3:06Speaker 1: dang good? Well done boys for getting fourteens. I'm proud
- 3:09Speaker 1: of you. Yeah, you guys want to take a minute
- 3:12Speaker 1: to thank your sponsors? Yeah, Humming Bergmancoda, Loomacraft must thanks,
- 3:18Speaker 1: Survival Vision. What's that The Buregaries podcast would like to
- 3:28Speaker 1: sponsor your that'd be great, that'd be great. Yeah, Okay,
- 3:32Speaker 1: talk to the financial people. I'll send him an email.
- 3:36Speaker 1: Now we have some housekeeping before we get to trivia.
- 3:38Speaker 1: On a previous episode, where we talked about the five
- 3:41Speaker 1: least visited national Parks, Sean Curry wrote in to let
- 3:45Speaker 1: me know that we are royally butchering the name of
- 3:48Speaker 1: Ile Royal in Michigan. He said, it's common for our
- 3:51Speaker 1: crew and others to mess up by combining a French
- 3:54Speaker 1: pronunciation with an English pronunciation. Here's what he means. If
- 3:58Speaker 1: you want to make it ranch, you call it eel royal.
- 4:03Speaker 1: If you want to make it English, you call it
- 4:05Speaker 1: ile royal. The incorrect way, which is often how I
- 4:08Speaker 1: do it, is pronouncing it ile royal, because that's making
- 4:12Speaker 1: the first word English and the second word French. So
- 4:16Speaker 1: we should commit to one or the other as a
- 4:18Speaker 1: show and either call it il royal or ile royal.
- 4:22Speaker 1: What do you guys think I royal. I think we
- 4:25Speaker 1: need to stick with what we're comfortable with, ile royal.
- 4:29Speaker 1: He said that, Uh, the James Bond movie Casino Royale
- 4:32Speaker 1: was the bane for rangers at Ile Royal, who then
- 4:36Speaker 1: always had to hear it pronounced afterwards as ile royale.
- 4:39Speaker 1: As I did pick your fights rangers. I get real
- 4:43Speaker 1: particular about pronunciations, and then when I hear someone else
- 4:48Speaker 1: like wash the tolls. So there's a mountain range and
- 4:52Speaker 1: people call o wa Chita and I mean, it's just like,
- 4:56Speaker 1: come on, man. And then when I hear someone do
- 4:58Speaker 1: like this, I'm like, come on, this ridiculous royal, come on,
- 5:02Speaker 1: like big bag, big big Well I'm talking. I'm specifically
- 5:08Speaker 1: talking about like geographic names and stuff that have a
- 5:11Speaker 1: unique pronunciation, like an acorn, like yeah, acorn yep, not
- 5:19Speaker 1: New Jersey pale. And with that we are on the
- 5:22Speaker 1: Meatiator Trivia play the drop, Phil, Look, I need to
- 5:27Speaker 1: know what I stay under wind everything I'm saying, just
- 5:32Speaker 1: tend to win everything. Game on Suckers from Game on Shuckers.
- 5:48Speaker 1: Actually Chester Chester has the game on Suckers down. Let's
- 5:52Speaker 1: hear it Game on Suckers. Oh, let's hear his voicemail.
- 5:58Speaker 1: You got something to say? If you got something to
- 6:00Speaker 1: say to my dad, say that at the beat. Question one,
- 6:05Speaker 1: the topic is biology. This first great question comes to
- 6:07Speaker 1: us via Erica Christiansen. If you have a question you
- 6:11Speaker 1: think it's right from Meatia to trivia, you can send
- 6:13Speaker 1: it to Trivia. The well it's spelled E R I
- 6:18Speaker 1: C A. Does that change anything for you? Clay, I
- 6:21Speaker 1: just no, no, okay, I can't trust any area. According
- 6:25Speaker 1: to a ninety one study in the Journal of Mammalogy.
- 6:30Speaker 1: What North American mammal has the most color variations? Is
- 6:35Speaker 1: it black bear, fox, squirrel, Eastern cotton tale rabbit, or
- 6:40Speaker 1: red fox? Again, this is according to a nineteen eighty
- 6:44Speaker 1: one study in the Journal of Mammalogy. What North American
- 6:48Speaker 1: mammal has the most color variations? Black bear, fox, squirrel,
- 6:54Speaker 1: Eastern cotton tale rabbit, or red fox? Easy? Did we
- 7:01Speaker 1: can't talk at all? I can't even give a commentary question.
- 7:06Speaker 1: So this is a night one study, so we have
- 7:08Speaker 1: to calculate into our answer all the studies that have
- 7:11Speaker 1: happened since then, over almost forty years ago. But I
- 7:15Speaker 1: found it excited in like sten studies, which I think
- 7:18Speaker 1: implies that this is like still the foundation if the
- 7:22Speaker 1: only study was nineteen eighty one. They're like, man, this
- 7:25Speaker 1: is not that great a question. We don't even need
- 7:27Speaker 1: to keep on. No, it's actually a great question. I'm
- 7:29Speaker 1: thrilled about this question Erica color photography at that point,
- 7:33Speaker 1: So that help. Does everybody have an answer? Go ahead
- 7:37Speaker 1: and reveal your answers. We have cal saying red fox, chest,
- 7:40Speaker 1: you're saying black bear, clay saying black bear, Krin saying
- 7:44Speaker 1: cottonale Cordy saying black black bear, Seth saying black bear,
- 7:49Speaker 1: and Janice saying black bear. Nobody got it right. The
- 7:58Speaker 1: correct answer is fox quirrels. Fox squirrels are commonly found
- 8:03Speaker 1: in gray, silver, brown, cream, red, beigian black. Additional variations
- 8:08Speaker 1: can be found with squirrels that have differing colors of
- 8:11Speaker 1: dorsal and belly hair. In Florida alone, they're thought to
- 8:14Speaker 1: be six distinct colors of fox squirrels. Not easy. I
- 8:19Speaker 1: don't trust Erica. What do you think about it? Though,
- 8:23Speaker 1: you're like, okay, yeah, they are probably the most diverse
- 8:27Speaker 1: mammal in North America. I don't know. I don't mean
- 8:29Speaker 1: that much time to think about black bears have a
- 8:32Speaker 1: lot of color. Well, there's there's there's a lot of
- 8:35Speaker 1: in betweens two. When you really dig into the bare nerds,
- 8:39Speaker 1: you know, there's like there's the blonde and the cinnamon
- 8:42Speaker 1: and the red and the chocolate in the in the
- 8:45Speaker 1: in the and and the blue one up in Alaska,
- 8:50Speaker 1: Glacier bear, Glacier bear. But for sure, if the fox
- 8:54Speaker 1: girls alone in Florida beat that, Like if they're counting
- 8:58Speaker 1: dorsal and venture old coloration too, then like every bear
- 9:02Speaker 1: that's got a little white patch, or yeah, I think
- 9:06Speaker 1: we're gonna accept black bear. It's just a big squirrel. Hey,
- 9:11Speaker 1: have you introduced everybody for this episode? Yes, yeah, I said,
- 9:15Speaker 1: Now we don't have Steve Ornell once again said who's
- 9:18Speaker 1: not in the room, which is just bizarre to me.
- 9:20Speaker 1: But we don't need to linger out. We're on the
- 9:24Speaker 1: question to the topic is deer? Name one of the
- 9:28Speaker 1: five states where you're most likely to hit a deer
- 9:31Speaker 1: with your vehicle? Oh? Gee, name one of the five
- 9:36Speaker 1: states where you're most likely to hit a deer with
- 9:39Speaker 1: your vehicle. A lot of quick answers in the room.
- 9:43Speaker 1: Oh boy, Now you write down more than one and
- 9:47Speaker 1: I will not accept it. So with all that scribbling,
- 9:50Speaker 1: it better just be one state. He's drawing the shape
- 9:53Speaker 1: shape of the outline. I got my answer from the
- 9:56Speaker 1: honest is grin. Okay, I'm going based off the experience.
- 10:02Speaker 1: Does everybody have an answer? Ye? Go ahead and reveal
- 10:06Speaker 1: your answers. We have Cal saying New Jersey, Chester, You're
- 10:08Speaker 1: saying Wisconsin, Clay saying Michigan, Karin saying Wisconsin, Corey saying
- 10:14Speaker 1: New Jersey, Seth saying New Jersey, and Jana saying Michigan.
- 10:18Speaker 1: I gotta go with the home state. The top five
- 10:21Speaker 1: are West Virginia, Montana, South Dakota, Michigan, and Pennsylvania striking
- 10:30Speaker 1: out for the Wisconsin. I absolutely knew Pennsylvania was in there,
- 10:36Speaker 1: and then just as I absolutely knew New Jersey was there,
- 10:38Speaker 1: there is way more deer hit in Wisconsin in Montana.
- 10:42Speaker 1: Tell you what you talked to State Farm about their
- 10:45Speaker 1: insurance policy and their claims inscsin That's why the year
- 10:52Speaker 1: in the row, West Virginia ranks number one in the
- 10:56Speaker 1: likelihood of hitting a deer with your vehicle in there.
- 11:00Speaker 1: The odds of it happening were one in thirty seven.
- 11:03Speaker 1: The months it is most likely to happen our November, October,
- 11:07Speaker 1: and December in that order. But this is the stats
- 11:11Speaker 1: from one insurance company, from State Farm who I have found.
- 11:14Speaker 1: Is there any correlation to the amount of State Farm
- 11:16Speaker 1: locations there. We're not going to look any deeper than
- 11:20Speaker 1: this personal experience with State Farm insurance. I want to
- 11:25Speaker 1: trust those as far as as far as I could throw.
- 11:31Speaker 1: That introduced wolves into the lower forty eight. And here's
- 11:36Speaker 1: the weird part about Clay arguing this is he got
- 11:38Speaker 1: it correct. I just saw Janics grant and knew it
- 11:42Speaker 1: was Michigan. We are on questions. The topic is cooking.
- 11:48Speaker 1: What does the acronym FIFO stand for? Again? This is cooking?
- 11:53Speaker 1: What does the acronym FIFO stand for? That's f I
- 11:56Speaker 1: f O? Is anybody it in on this one? I
- 12:01Speaker 1: worked at a target, so it's kind of a not
- 12:06Speaker 1: really how that's a hint? Ill said he worked at
- 12:12Speaker 1: a target, and that is a hint. He's security repeating
- 12:16Speaker 1: it night time security. I don't even I can't even
- 12:20Speaker 1: come up with a creative, dumb answer. F I f
- 12:23Speaker 1: O is what we're looking for. I don't know what
- 12:27Speaker 1: I don't. Here's where I'm very surprised. Cal and Janice
- 12:31Speaker 1: worked in restaurants. I'm sure others in this were worked
- 12:33Speaker 1: in restaurants as well, and they don't know what fifo means. Nope, Yeah,
- 12:38Speaker 1: never once have I used it or heard? Does everybody
- 12:40Speaker 1: have an answer? Who's going to come up with one?
- 12:44Speaker 1: Clay is still just gibberish. I just oil oil, go
- 12:52Speaker 1: ahead and reveal your answers. Cal says, fresh in, uh
- 12:56Speaker 1: fresh fresh and fresh out Chester with out an answer.
- 13:00Speaker 1: Clay saying fire, ice, fire in oil Korean without an answer,
- 13:07Speaker 1: Corey saying first in, first out saying fire food and
- 13:12Speaker 1: Jana saying freshion fried out. What does fifo mean Corey
- 13:17Speaker 1: is the winner? First in first out? Wow? I mean
- 13:23Speaker 1: this is the same. That's I'm not going to give
- 13:25Speaker 1: it to you. But you were right. There was good
- 13:28Speaker 1: Corey got it right. Answer. Yes, This simply means that
- 13:35Speaker 1: the first items you placed in the fridge or freezer
- 13:37Speaker 1: are the first items to come out. It's commonly used
- 13:40Speaker 1: in restaurants, but is also a good practice for hunters
- 13:43Speaker 1: and anglers to use at home. Or did you Was
- 13:45Speaker 1: that a guest or you do it? Absolute guess'd many
- 13:50Speaker 1: restaurants and had never heard that before. You always used
- 13:53Speaker 1: the first stuff, last practice, and that stuff looks we
- 13:58Speaker 1: should probably use it. Yeah, exactly. I just don't think
- 14:01Speaker 1: that everybody, anybody ever acrononized it right. They would just
- 14:07Speaker 1: be like your chef would be like first and first out. Dude.
- 14:10Speaker 1: Now here's here's where I recently heard. I was watching
- 14:12Speaker 1: the episode of Bar Rescue and John Tafford comes in
- 14:15Speaker 1: just lighting up the kitchen staff as he likes to do,
- 14:17Speaker 1: and he yells something about don't you guys practice flight foe?
- 14:21Speaker 1: So he did, and John Tafford doesn't like the riders
- 14:26Speaker 1: of that show. Just made that up. Maybe we almost
- 14:30Speaker 1: said that before in real life. We are on the
- 14:32Speaker 1: question for the topic is varmints. This next great question
- 14:36Speaker 1: comes to us via Clayton McFarland. You can never now, Clay.
- 14:39Speaker 1: Are you a Clayton or Clay Clay? Straight up? Can
- 14:42Speaker 1: you trust to Clayton? You know, I've known a lot
- 14:44Speaker 1: of good Clayton's, but you know, Okay, yeah, I think so.
- 14:47Speaker 1: We'll see based on the questions from Clayton McFarland. If
- 14:50Speaker 1: you have a question you think is right for Meat
- 14:51Speaker 1: Eat Trivia A, send it to Trivia at the meat
- 14:53Speaker 1: eator dot com. What part of a raccoon is often
- 14:57Speaker 1: used in the homemade moonshine just stilling process? What part
- 15:03Speaker 1: of a raccoon is often used in the homemade moonshine
- 15:07Speaker 1: distilling process? Clay, how you feeling about this? Clay? And
- 15:12Speaker 1: I'm ashamed that I don't know this offhand. It seems
- 15:15Speaker 1: right up your alley because the the racoon episodes that
- 15:20Speaker 1: I'm doing for burglaries that have already happened by now
- 15:24Speaker 1: I talk a lot about moonshine, doing some moonshine and
- 15:28Speaker 1: son of a gun Again, what part of the raccoon
- 15:33Speaker 1: is often used in the moonshine distilling process? Does everybody
- 15:38Speaker 1: have an answer? I changed my first answer. I'm wondering
- 15:43Speaker 1: if I should have win with with my gut original.
- 15:45Speaker 1: Gonna give you a couple of seconds. Chester, you want
- 15:47Speaker 1: to switch it, go ahead and reveal your answers. We
- 15:49Speaker 1: have cal saying the vaculum, Chester saying the tail, Clay
- 15:53Speaker 1: saying the vaculum, Corince saying the gonads, Corey saying the vaculum,
- 15:58Speaker 1: Seth saying the tail, and Janice saying the fat. The
- 16:02Speaker 1: correct answer is the vaculum or penis bone? Now what
- 16:07Speaker 1: are they doing with it? The vaculum is placed at
- 16:09Speaker 1: the outlet of a moonshine still to help the liquid
- 16:12Speaker 1: flow smoothly into a collection vessel. If you want to
- 16:16Speaker 1: learn how to get your own fore your own still,
- 16:18Speaker 1: go to the media dot com and check out Clay
- 16:20Speaker 1: Newcome's video called how to make a Raccoon vaculum toothpick.
- 16:24Speaker 1: He shows you how to cut it out of a raccoon,
- 16:26Speaker 1: how to clean it, and how to whiten it great video. Now,
- 16:29Speaker 1: if I was guy make a moonshine, I'd cut the
- 16:34Speaker 1: tail off that raccoon and clean my pipes with it. There,
- 16:36Speaker 1: you gal, That's what I would do, And he'd have
- 16:41Speaker 1: vacuum and vacuum. When he said was envisioning using the
- 16:45Speaker 1: coon part leaving the tail off, I was like, man,
- 16:47Speaker 1: you got some big pipes as a pipe cleaner. So
- 16:53Speaker 1: we are onto question five. We'll get a scoreboard update
- 16:55Speaker 1: after this. The topic is Frontiersman, Steve, what' know that, dude?
- 16:59Speaker 1: I'm striking out? Daniel Boone National Forest, which used to
- 17:04Speaker 1: be called the Cumberland National Forest, is located in what state?
- 17:09Speaker 1: You're giving these all the clay? I feel like, yeah,
- 17:12Speaker 1: Daniel Boone National Forest used to be called the Cumberland
- 17:16Speaker 1: National Forest is located in what state? Clay? Do you
- 17:21Speaker 1: feel like this one is given to you? There? It
- 17:25Speaker 1: should be. But after this I'll give a little commentary.
- 17:32Speaker 1: Does everybody have an answer? No? Please give me three seconds.
- 17:38Speaker 1: Still thinking about that raccoon vacuum. Daniel Boone National Forest,
- 17:42Speaker 1: which he used to be called the Cumberland National Forest
- 17:46Speaker 1: is located in what state? Changing changing answer last second,
- 17:50Speaker 1: that tells you how confident I am, now honest? Can
- 17:52Speaker 1: you read anything from his face? No? No, Um, do
- 18:00Speaker 1: you know any states? There's a lot of Cumberlands you
- 18:02Speaker 1: can go off of. There are Yeah, there's only there's
- 18:06Speaker 1: only one Cumberland brother. Well, yeah, I know what you mean.
- 18:11Speaker 1: But there's there's some towns, there's some landmarks. Go ahead
- 18:15Speaker 1: and reveal your answers. We have Cal saying Tennessee, Chester
- 18:20Speaker 1: saying Tennessee, Clay saying Virginia, Karen saying Missouri, Corey saying Tennessee,
- 18:25Speaker 1: Seth saying Maryland, Jana saying Kentucky. The correct answer is Kentucky.
- 18:33Speaker 1: Job you have Kentucky? Okay, yeah, I did. Now let
- 18:36Speaker 1: me tell you. Let me tell you why. So when
- 18:37Speaker 1: you go to the Cumberland Gap, which is that's like
- 18:40Speaker 1: a three, that's like a tri state. Yeah, so you
- 18:43Speaker 1: you passed through the Cumberland Gap on a trail foot
- 18:46Speaker 1: and trail, which interestingly used to be a state highway
- 18:51Speaker 1: that for years went through the Cumberland Gap because it's
- 18:53Speaker 1: the best place to cross the mountains, So there was
- 18:54Speaker 1: a state highway there. Then they you know, learned the
- 18:57Speaker 1: historical significance of it. In the nineteen nineties that built
- 18:59Speaker 1: a tunnel through the mountain and rewilded the gap. When
- 19:03Speaker 1: you're in the gap, you're on a foot trail, and
- 19:04Speaker 1: you walk like a hundred yards off the foot trail
- 19:08Speaker 1: up to the top of this mountain, and you're at
- 19:10Speaker 1: the corner of Kentucky Tennessee in Virginia. So the gap
- 19:15Speaker 1: is actually most of it's in Virginia, and so and
- 19:19Speaker 1: then there's a lot more National forest in Virginia than
- 19:22Speaker 1: in Kentucky. So that's why I went in Virginia. But
- 19:24Speaker 1: I got, I got, I got smoked. The Cumberland game
- 19:27Speaker 1: name comes from absolutely, well, we're gonna learn everyone else
- 19:32Speaker 1: here in a second. Cumberland National Forest was named after
- 19:36Speaker 1: will not asking me, yeah, go ahead, no, no, no,
- 19:43Speaker 1: he was He was a chump from England, a jump Cumberland.
- 19:52Speaker 1: His last name was Cumberland. And when the guys came
- 19:55Speaker 1: over that first explored the gap, they were loyal to
- 19:58Speaker 1: the British and we're trying to, you know, just look
- 20:02Speaker 1: good with their leaders. And basically this, uh, I forgot
- 20:05Speaker 1: the guy's name that actually named Cumberland. But it was
- 20:08Speaker 1: basically a political favor to a guy who never set
- 20:11Speaker 1: foot in the Cumberland Gap. The Cumberland National Forest was
- 20:14Speaker 1: named after William Augustus, the Duke of Cumberland. He had
- 20:18Speaker 1: many nicknames. He had many nicknames, including the Butcher and
- 20:22Speaker 1: the Bloody Duke because of how we treated Scottish prisoners
- 20:25Speaker 1: and civil and civilians in war. When locals realized the
- 20:29Speaker 1: area was named after someone who slaughtered their ancestors, they
- 20:32Speaker 1: asked to get the forest renamed in In In nineteen sixty six,
- 20:35Speaker 1: that happened when Lyndon B. Johnson officially changed it to
- 20:38Speaker 1: Daniel Boone National Forest. That is funny because yeah, there's
- 20:41Speaker 1: a ton of Scotch hi over there, right. Yeah. Well,
- 20:44Speaker 1: I mean when a bunch of that country was named that,
- 20:47Speaker 1: we were British colonies and they were doing political favorite
- 20:50Speaker 1: to people. I hate naming stuff after chumps, and it
- 20:53Speaker 1: happened a lot. Phil give us a scoreboard update. Oh,
- 20:57Speaker 1: I guess we're not gonna name this the Clay nucom
- 21:00Speaker 1: Old podcast studio. Uh this this game is not going
- 21:04Speaker 1: as well as the last one we recorded. Unfortunately, we've
- 21:07Speaker 1: got uh seven. Karen and Chester have yet to make
- 21:11Speaker 1: it onto the board. Uh. In second place with one
- 21:15Speaker 1: point is Ryan Callahan and then tied for first with
- 21:19Speaker 1: two points are Clay Corey and Janice Patelis Son of
- 21:22Speaker 1: a Gun. All right, we got a game here, fellas tough.
- 21:27Speaker 1: There is room for comeback, so that's anyone can still
- 21:30Speaker 1: win at this point. I know your roots for somebody
- 21:33Speaker 1: who's tied. I kind of liked at that time when
- 21:35Speaker 1: Steve asked all of us, or maybe you asked all
- 21:37Speaker 1: of us who we would give the winnings too. If
- 21:42Speaker 1: we want, we'll get down to the end and see
- 21:44Speaker 1: who's in it. I'm gonna have that discussion. All right,
- 21:55Speaker 1: We're onto question six. The topic is deer camp. Now
- 21:58Speaker 1: this is an audio question. A few months ago I
- 22:01Speaker 1: played for you guys what I considered to be the
- 22:03Speaker 1: worst hunting song ever written? What was it? Honest? You remember?
- 22:07Speaker 1: Did scar you enough? No? I got very lucky in
- 22:11Speaker 1: answering it correctly, some country dude. It was Luke Brian's
- 22:15Speaker 1: drinking beer and wasting bullets. I am now going to
- 22:18Speaker 1: play for you one minute of the greatest hunting song
- 22:21Speaker 1: ever written, and you need to identify the artist who's Yeah,
- 22:32Speaker 1: I'm looking for the artist. Very confident Jess to Wing
- 22:51Speaker 1: shotguns singing down log God bad, grinning around and not
- 23:05Speaker 1: try Rey Loan. I wasn't looking ron, I just I
- 23:14Speaker 1: just got the frantic arm motion by chance. There. I
- 23:18Speaker 1: totally saw it. I'm not going to change my answer.
- 23:21Speaker 1: I'll be honorable punt it on mine. This is a
- 23:24Speaker 1: good song. Yeah, it is a good song. Who sings
- 23:28Speaker 1: this one Street favorite? Okay, So Karn didn't give us
- 23:37Speaker 1: a little tip. The greatest hunting song ever written. I'll
- 23:41Speaker 1: give you this hint. It's not Luke Bryan now, so
- 23:45Speaker 1: you're the one thet I like the passion of that.
- 23:53Speaker 1: Does everybody have an answer? Sure sounds familiar, easy, more
- 24:00Speaker 1: country or more western? You think something in between? That
- 24:08Speaker 1: was from the Brothers and funny enough. I text my
- 24:13Speaker 1: body Stephen Renault. I said, hey, I'm out of ideas.
- 24:16Speaker 1: I need a family movie and I can watch. He
- 24:19Speaker 1: replies with Princess Pride. My girls had already seen it
- 24:23Speaker 1: and they loved it. After we pretty much forced him
- 24:26Speaker 1: to watch it. And uh, the weather Red Fern Grows,
- 24:30Speaker 1: which is very hard to find the original on streaming
- 24:33Speaker 1: of found please right in if you can help me
- 24:36Speaker 1: with that. And then the third one was The Blues.
- 24:38Speaker 1: The Blues brothers. So I go to my girls and
- 24:41Speaker 1: I'm like, well, check out this Lord of the Rings.
- 24:44Speaker 1: They're like, no, not into it, like really, guys are
- 24:46Speaker 1: very crazy. And I'm like, all right, I'll just show
- 24:49Speaker 1: you the trailer of the Blues Brothers. Let's watch this.
- 24:52Speaker 1: I'm like, I'm sure because of the I don't know
- 24:55Speaker 1: what they said. We like to see guys doing stupid stuff,
- 25:00Speaker 1: and you know, and next thing I know, my kids
- 25:04Speaker 1: are hearing F bombs, m F bombs, seeing new and
- 25:10Speaker 1: used prophylactics and holy cow, did I have a lot
- 25:13Speaker 1: of questions to answer that evening? But yeahs, yeah, we
- 25:18Speaker 1: had to go through all that and uh, anyways, educational,
- 25:23Speaker 1: I think Phil needs to be go to person to
- 25:26Speaker 1: text for family of course. Yeah, any time, thanks buddy.
- 25:31Speaker 1: All right, back to the game a trivia though you're
- 25:33Speaker 1: still not written anyme down. I'm just trying to tell
- 25:36Speaker 1: you he was going to get sidetracked and we just
- 25:38Speaker 1: move on. Do you have an answer that one? Yeah?
- 25:43Speaker 1: I didn't really get that one, right, mail tell us
- 25:46Speaker 1: all right, go ahead and reveal your answers. I am
- 25:50Speaker 1: gonna pick one out. It's gonna be I'm not looking up.
- 25:55Speaker 1: We have cal saying Ryan Adams, Chester and Clay saying
- 25:59Speaker 1: the and Karan and Corey saying the Turnpike Troubadours, Seth
- 26:03Speaker 1: saying whiskey Myers and Janice saying Steve Earle little thing
- 26:08Speaker 1: about these guys that just got back together, real confident.
- 26:13Speaker 1: Let's hear him read the answer. Okay, he correct answers
- 26:17Speaker 1: Turnpike Troubadoors, And this song was The bird Hunters. They
- 26:21Speaker 1: are from Oklahoma, just like a hour and a half
- 26:24Speaker 1: from me, but we just had a serious turn in
- 26:26Speaker 1: the game right there. The turn Bike Troupodoors released that
- 26:28Speaker 1: song on their self titled album in It's about a
- 26:32Speaker 1: kail hunter who has to give up his bird dog
- 26:34Speaker 1: when he follows a girl to the city. Medium dot
- 26:37Speaker 1: Com agrees with me, saying The bird Hunters is a
- 26:39Speaker 1: phenomenal song and it deserves the same treatment we give
- 26:42Speaker 1: to Faulkner or Hemming Waves oppositions that what happens, Yeah, well,
- 26:48Speaker 1: he's not much of a freaking kail hunter if he
- 26:50Speaker 1: gives up his dog to follow a girl visit to
- 26:52Speaker 1: his best buddy Danny and then he comes back eventually
- 26:55Speaker 1: when they don't work out. No, no, no, no, this
- 27:00Speaker 1: twelve has had twelve Decembers by then. Yeah, there was
- 27:04Speaker 1: a there was quite a bit. You're not like this guy.
- 27:06Speaker 1: You want to talk about chumps. Oh, I'm sure. It's
- 27:12Speaker 1: a heartbreaker song ever written. We're on the question. The
- 27:18Speaker 1: topic is fishing. Smurf meat is produced by this fish
- 27:23Speaker 1: with blue flesh that's only found on North America's West coast.
- 27:29Speaker 1: Smurf meat is produced by this fish with blue flesh
- 27:33Speaker 1: that's only found on North America's West coast. A couple
- 27:40Speaker 1: of folks that knew it smurf meat, smurf meet a
- 27:43Speaker 1: lot of folks that got this Johnnie, Yeah, yeah, I
- 27:48Speaker 1: guess that's not a Does somebody have a fruit colored marker?
- 27:52Speaker 1: Let's go back to this dog conversation. I'm not how
- 27:54Speaker 1: do you guys like that song? Oh, it's great if
- 27:57Speaker 1: he regrets regrets, Yeah, yeah, you got you should regret that.
- 28:01Speaker 1: I mean, come on, I wish I had the lyrics.
- 28:04Speaker 1: It's home bo And next time you do that, get
- 28:11Speaker 1: out your phone. You can text me and Chester and
- 28:13Speaker 1: koreating Corey. We'd all really appreciate that you texted me too. Okay,
- 28:18Speaker 1: as long as you got that mullet. Does everybody have
- 28:20Speaker 1: an about smurf meat? Yeah, go ahead and reveal your answers.
- 28:26Speaker 1: We have Cal saying link cod, Chester saying link cod,
- 28:29Speaker 1: Clay saying doherty the pixar fish, Karim saying puffer fish,
- 28:34Speaker 1: Corey saying marlin, Seth saying link cod, and Janice saying cod.
- 28:41Speaker 1: The correct answer is link cod. I don't think we're
- 28:44Speaker 1: going to give it to you that they're not even
- 28:47Speaker 1: a cod. Did you mean like he wouldn't need link
- 28:55Speaker 1: in front of that? We could be pea cod. You're right,
- 29:00Speaker 1: could have been Alaskan cod. Black God thought that about
- 29:04Speaker 1: link Cod have blue flesh. Some biologists believe it's a
- 29:07Speaker 1: product of a shallow water diet. One more recent study
- 29:10Speaker 1: say it's an indicator that the fish is experiencing nutritional stress.
- 29:15Speaker 1: Either way, the blue color disappears when the meat is cooked.
- 29:18Speaker 1: You can get blue lobsters too, which is weird more rare. Yeah,
- 29:23Speaker 1: but I mean a shallow water diet. So what happens
- 29:26Speaker 1: to all the other fish with white flesh that live
- 29:28Speaker 1: in shallow water. I don't know. Nobody's really certain about it.
- 29:31Speaker 1: Talks about how their diet higher in chlorophill if that
- 29:34Speaker 1: helps you more like the question eight, we will get
- 29:40Speaker 1: a scoreboard update from film answer. Just if you're wondering,
- 29:44Speaker 1: Dory was a blue fish talking about kids movies. For
- 29:48Speaker 1: those of you wondering, just keep swimming. Just what kind
- 29:52Speaker 1: of fish was a film? A blue tang. We're on
- 29:56Speaker 1: the question at the topic is hunting. This next rate
- 29:58Speaker 1: question comes. It was via crisp Jasmine. If you have
- 30:01Speaker 1: a question you think is right for meat Eater, you
- 30:03Speaker 1: can send it to trivia at the meat eater dot com.
- 30:06Speaker 1: What state has the highest population of bighorn sheep? What
- 30:12Speaker 1: state has the highest population of big horn sheep? Great question.
- 30:20Speaker 1: I'm gonna get the answer right by looking in Corey's
- 30:22Speaker 1: eyes because I know he needs it. Corey looked me
- 30:23Speaker 1: in the eyes. Okay, I got it. Because y'all think
- 30:30Speaker 1: it tough, it's think I got it wrong. It's not Wisconsin.
- 30:34Speaker 1: Does everybody have an answer? Go ahead and reveal your answers.
- 30:39Speaker 1: We have Cal saying Idaho, Chester saying Montana, Clay saying Montana,
- 30:43Speaker 1: Krin saying Colorado, Corey saying Montana, and Jana saying Colorado.
- 30:50Speaker 1: Nobody got it correct. Correct answer is Nevada. Nevada has
- 30:57Speaker 1: a population of roughly twelve thousand bighorn sheep, which is
- 31:00Speaker 1: made up of Desert big horns, Rocky Mountain big horns,
- 31:03Speaker 1: and California big horns. This is nearly twice as many
- 31:06Speaker 1: as the next closest states like Colorado, Wyoming, Montana, and Arizona.
- 31:11Speaker 1: I don't even apply Nevada think about the most nonresident
- 31:15Speaker 1: tags as well, So no, yeah, wow, it crossed my mind.
- 31:19Speaker 1: I didn't write it down, though. Phil hit us with
- 31:20Speaker 1: a scoreboard update. I think it says a lot of
- 31:24Speaker 1: there are some people with one point, and yet it's
- 31:26Speaker 1: still anybody's game. We've got seven Karen with one point,
- 31:31Speaker 1: cal Chester and Janice have too, and Corey and Clay
- 31:36Speaker 1: are tied for first with three points. This is a
- 31:39Speaker 1: great games. A smoker maybe got a little too harder.
- 31:43Speaker 1: Question at Home, Feel good about yourself? Question nine. The
- 31:48Speaker 1: topic is gear. This type of arrow, which often has
- 31:52Speaker 1: extra fletchings that are extra long, is commonly used for
- 31:56Speaker 1: bird hunting because it's designed to travel shorter distances. A
- 32:01Speaker 1: few confident answers again, this type of arrow, which often
- 32:05Speaker 1: has extra fletchings that are extra long, is commonly used
- 32:09Speaker 1: for bird hunting because it's designed to travel shorter distances.
- 32:15Speaker 1: Does everybody have an answer that was quick? I wouldn't
- 32:20Speaker 1: be a good poker player. Go ahead, and we have
- 32:26Speaker 1: flu fu flu flu flu flu. Uh corey saying Judo,
- 32:32Speaker 1: the guy in first place got it wrong. The correct
- 32:35Speaker 1: answer is flu flu all I gotta beat his corey now.
- 32:39Speaker 1: While a regular arrow shot three compound bow can go
- 32:42Speaker 1: hundreds of yards, a flu flu arrow maxes out at
- 32:45Speaker 1: about fifty. This makes it a popular choice for archers
- 32:48Speaker 1: who want to hunt pheasants ducks in small game because
- 32:51Speaker 1: flu flus are easier to recover. Actually drew one with
- 32:55Speaker 1: his name there at the beginning of the same that's
- 32:57Speaker 1: a good point. Hey, I shot I pheasant hunted one
- 33:01Speaker 1: day in Kansas with flu flues in a traditional bow.
- 33:04Speaker 1: How did that go? It was tough, man. I went
- 33:06Speaker 1: into it with zero practice shooting flying stuff like I
- 33:10Speaker 1: just pretty much booked like an outfitted type hunt or
- 33:13Speaker 1: wild birds, went up there and got a bunch of shots.
- 33:17Speaker 1: They were wild birds, but they were they were they
- 33:21Speaker 1: were raised totally in the wild, but at these feeders,
- 33:25Speaker 1: so they were It was kind of you know, they
- 33:27Speaker 1: weren't like I got thirty shots in a day, so
- 33:30Speaker 1: that tells you they probably weren't a normal wild bird
- 33:32Speaker 1: hunt it. It was highly subp Yeah. Anyway, I actually
- 33:38Speaker 1: contacted one bird in like Phoenish shots and it didn't
- 33:42Speaker 1: kill it. Another real fun thing to do with them
- 33:44Speaker 1: is go to your home depot and get some uh
- 33:47Speaker 1: foam siding. Cut it in circles, like a big round circle.
- 33:52Speaker 1: You can toss those circles up. It's fun. Trap get
- 33:56Speaker 1: a trap bone. You're you're saying, like the practice version version,
- 34:01Speaker 1: practicing with your flu flu arrows. Phil, give us a
- 34:05Speaker 1: scoreboard update. Uh, well, we've got Clay in first with
- 34:10Speaker 1: four points, but then hot on his his tail, we've
- 34:13Speaker 1: got cal Chester, Corey, and Janice all with three points,
- 34:16Speaker 1: and we could have like a four person tiebreaker. Here,
- 34:19Speaker 1: I'm cheering for you guys. Wrong. We're gonna ask the
- 34:25Speaker 1: uh possible winners where you might give your money to
- 34:29Speaker 1: tell us your honest how will dot org and why? Well,
- 34:34Speaker 1: because they're kind of new, up and coming, and boy,
- 34:37Speaker 1: I feel like they're really hustling their tails off to
- 34:39Speaker 1: keep us all educated on what is trying to take
- 34:43Speaker 1: away our right to hunting the States and all of
- 34:47Speaker 1: our states. Play is a big fan of them as well. Yeah,
- 34:49Speaker 1: I'm glad you said that. That's who I'd give to
- 34:51Speaker 1: you as well. How will how how for wildlife? But
- 34:54Speaker 1: it's how dot org group called how for wild Life Chess?
- 34:58Speaker 1: Who are you playing for? Uh? I'm probably gonna do
- 35:03Speaker 1: maybe like a local Montana thing. What do you guys
- 35:06Speaker 1: think about like back country horsemen and trade? Didn't know what?
- 35:11Speaker 1: I love it? If you if public Lands waters, public
- 35:16Speaker 1: Land water and Access p l w A is a
- 35:20Speaker 1: great one. Yeah, local p lw A er back country horsemen,
- 35:26Speaker 1: I'd have to think about it. What are you thinking? Uh?
- 35:29Speaker 1: You got this comes out in June? This summer relizes
- 35:33Speaker 1: this summer. Oh, this doesn't even come out if you
- 35:36Speaker 1: don't even want it to come out. I forgot about that.
- 35:39Speaker 1: This is in case somebody else really screws up on
- 35:41Speaker 1: the podcast. We can't flit it in. It's going on June. Um,
- 35:47Speaker 1: I'll give bl w A and Corey Culkins. What do
- 35:50Speaker 1: you think We're gonna have a low water ear So
- 35:52Speaker 1: it's gonna be a high conflict here and plw A
- 35:56Speaker 1: does a lot of the litigation for folks who like
- 35:58Speaker 1: clothes off stream access and roads and stuff like that.
- 36:03Speaker 1: They do a good job to keep it close to
- 36:05Speaker 1: home and close to my heart. The Bob Marshall Wilderness
- 36:08Speaker 1: Foundation a right. That is what's on the line here.
- 36:11Speaker 1: With question ten, the topic is biology. This question comes
- 36:15Speaker 1: to is via Shane Lichty. If you have a question
- 36:17Speaker 1: you think is right from Meatator Trivia, you can send
- 36:19Speaker 1: it to trivia at the media dot com. Gorillas, dogs, beavers, rabbits,
- 36:25Speaker 1: and mice all practice cope praphasia, which means they eat blank. Gorillas, dogs, beavers, rabbits,
- 36:35Speaker 1: and mice all practice cope propasia, which means they eat blank.
- 36:45Speaker 1: Nobody knew it seems like everyone's just taking educated guests here.
- 36:50Speaker 1: Corey ever get one of those shirts? Uh, just Bob
- 36:53Speaker 1: Marshall standing there, that's a great sh what a beautiful fella. Yeah,
- 37:00Speaker 1: their shirts shrunk so bad every time I get wanted
- 37:03Speaker 1: to get awaar it for like a week and then
- 37:05Speaker 1: finally have to throw it in the wash and ruin
- 37:07Speaker 1: up and have to give it away. Maybe he's Corey's
- 37:08Speaker 1: donation will get them some higher quality fabric. Everybody, would
- 37:14Speaker 1: you mind reading that one more time? Just to make
- 37:16Speaker 1: sure Gorillas gorillas, dogs, beavers, rabbits, and mice all practice coprophasia,
- 37:24Speaker 1: which means they eat blank. That changes it. Okay, it's
- 37:33Speaker 1: not copenhagen A. You're gonna change your answer. I don't
- 37:45Speaker 1: want to. Is the last question. Go ahead and reveal
- 37:50Speaker 1: your answers. We have cal saying poop, Chester saying grass,
- 37:54Speaker 1: Clay saying feces, Karen saying poop, Corey saying grass, Seth
- 37:59Speaker 1: saying poop, and Janice saying feces their own feces. The
- 38:04Speaker 1: correct answer is feces making clay, who come today's winner? Yes,
- 38:13Speaker 1: just feasts. They eat all kinds of feces, or they
- 38:16Speaker 1: eat their own feces. They eat their own. Now. While
- 38:18Speaker 1: most animals do this to excess nutrients they couldn't digest
- 38:22Speaker 1: the first time around, dogs are the exception. It's believed
- 38:25Speaker 1: they do this as an ancestral response to protecting pack
- 38:28Speaker 1: members from parasites in their stool. A two thousand twelve
- 38:32Speaker 1: study estimated that about sixteen percent of dogs regularly eat
- 38:36Speaker 1: their feces. I feel like not putting their own in
- 38:41Speaker 1: front of feces is kind of like not putting ling
- 38:44Speaker 1: in front of the car. Not at all I know,
- 38:48Speaker 1: can we get a definition of coprophasia. I think it means, uh,
- 38:53Speaker 1: the practice of eating your own feces, so it is
- 38:55Speaker 1: your own. Yes, but I'm not going to dig anybody
- 38:59Speaker 1: for not writing your Yeah, so you got and be
- 39:01Speaker 1: honest way on this one. I mean, come on, it's
- 39:05Speaker 1: almost out there eating feces. They are eating feces. They
- 39:12Speaker 1: are eating feces, but just not just an So you're
- 39:16Speaker 1: trying to get me off of Clay Newcomb wins Clay Newcomb,
- 39:20Speaker 1: what's going on? You're just like, yeah, they eat dog feces,
- 39:26Speaker 1: they fish feces. Dear femail for this one. How do
- 39:32Speaker 1: people the broadcast and talk about who actually won this?
- 39:38Speaker 1: Last question on this episode? Right to meat Eater at
- 39:41Speaker 1: the meat eater dot com. Then Corey Culkin tested, I
- 39:44Speaker 1: think in the court of law would be good. All right, Clay,
- 39:47Speaker 1: where are you donating the five? I'll go with how
- 39:51Speaker 1: for Wildlife How? Yeah, they do basically what they do
- 39:57Speaker 1: and they are a young organization, so but they they
- 40:03Speaker 1: highlight where anti hunting legislation is going on, and they
- 40:08Speaker 1: have a really streamlined process for people getting involved. So
- 40:12Speaker 1: they're basically you go in, you sign up just one time,
- 40:16Speaker 1: and then you kind of have an account with them,
- 40:18Speaker 1: and it's pretty easy, and then you can send well
- 40:22Speaker 1: thought out letters to the appropriate people easily, and you know,
- 40:26Speaker 1: it's some people might be like, that's maybe not the
- 40:29Speaker 1: best strategy, but it actually is a pretty darn good
- 40:31Speaker 1: strategy just to pile pro whatever we're after emails into
- 40:37Speaker 1: these people's inboxes and they may not read them, but
- 40:39Speaker 1: they know they got four thousand emails and say we're
- 40:43Speaker 1: against this or for this, And they've been doing stuff
- 40:45Speaker 1: like hosting zoom meetings for people that are that are
- 40:48Speaker 1: planning on showing up at other, um, you know, government
- 40:52Speaker 1: meetings to speak on behalf of said legislation or against it,
- 40:57Speaker 1: and like hosting zoom meetings to sort of better armed
- 41:00Speaker 1: people so they can better articulate their thoughts about you know, X,
- 41:03Speaker 1: Y and Z. So a lot of good education and
- 41:05Speaker 1: we're sending five dollars their way. Well done, Clay. That's
- 41:09Speaker 1: it for this episode. Join us next time for another
- 41:11Speaker 1: round of Mediator Trivia, the only game show where conservation
- 41:15Speaker 1: always wins. Thanks Spencer, Thank you,
