- 3:00of the quarterfinals of the College Football Playoff Kickoff
- 3:05New Year's Eve with #10 Miami facing off #2 Ohio State in the
- 3:12Cotton Ball in Arlington, TX. Ohio State is 9.5 points
- 3:18favorites with a defense that hasn't allowed more than 16
- 3:24points in a game this year. The other three games will be on
- 3:29New Year's Day with #5 Oregon face it off #4 Texas Tech in the
- 3:35Orange ball in Miami. Oregon is 2.5 point favorites
- 3:41with an offense that averages 39.3 points per game going
- 3:46against Texas Tech's defense that has only allowed more than
- 3:5117 points just twice this year #9 Alabama will face off #1
- 3:57Indiana at the Rose Bowl in California In a game where
- 4:04Indiana is a 7 point favorite. Indiana is number has #1 it has
- 4:10the number one wide receiver Omar Cooper who led them with 58
- 4:15catches and 804 yards with will be active for this game #6 Old
- 4:22Miss will face off #3 face off against #3 George Georgia in the
- 4:27Sugar Ball in New Orleans. Georgia is 6.5 point favorites
- 4:33in the game. Georgia has won nine straight
- 4:36games and handed Old Miss their only loss during the regular
- 4:41season, winning 43 to 35. Old Miss will be without Lane
- 4:46Kiffin and much of their coaching staff from the first
- 4:51match up. Speedy, where do you want to go
- 4:53first? Where do you want to have it?
- 4:54Because I know you're the college football group.
- 4:57Where do you want to go? You know what we ended?
- 4:59We ended with the Ole Miss Georgia in the read off.
- 5:01Let's start with there with the ex Lane Kiffin first challenge
- 5:05against the Georgia team that already beat them in the regular
- 5:07season. I, I will say this, I expect
- 5:10Georgia to go all the way to the championship.
- 5:12I think they're as good as any team in this tournament.
- 5:15They have, they always have one of the best defenses in the
- 5:17country. They got a great running game.
- 5:20I I don't know about the quarterback play and that that's
- 5:22the question and it always. Is we need them to go all the
- 5:25way too. No, you we are a a Georgia bar
- 5:30in in midtown. That's right.
- 5:32That's Georgia, goes it's it's fun to.
- 5:34Watch more money for you too man.
- 5:36We, we should have known. We, we, we would have sent Jeff
- 5:38over there. He would have loved us.
- 5:40Yeah, to me, to me, I think the Bulldogs are expected to win
- 5:44this game. Now, that doesn't mean Ole Miss
- 5:45can pull it off. And Ole Miss with no really
- 5:49their whole coaching staff, no Lane Kiffin.
- 5:51And they showed, they showed that they can win without them.
- 5:54They won by what, 20 points their last game?
- 5:56Yeah. Like 41 attacks.
- 5:57And they they put up 50 points in that game.
- 6:00So do you. Think, do you think that plays
- 6:02into their favor or it hurts them where you like?
- 6:04You know what? Here's the middle finger
- 6:06confidence. We can win without you.
- 6:08Confidence, I, I think the fact that they have a rookie coach
- 6:11that is taking over for Lane Kiffin, A defensive coordinator
- 6:14that's never done it before, has a chance to go to the semis and
- 6:17knock off the Georgia Bulldogs, a national championship team
- 6:20with one of the great defensive minds in college football.
- 6:24It makes a lot of sense that this game could go back and
- 6:26forth. I I mean speed, you look at the
- 6:28potential of this game, do you think that this game sticks out
- 6:31from maybe in Alabama, Indiana? I I have said.
- 6:35I said this. Does that line steer you?
- 6:38Does that. Line steer you a little bit both
- 6:40teams have good offensive lines. I think what it is is I Lane
- 6:43Kiffin even though they lost that game 43 to 35, they still
- 6:46had a good offense in that game. They this was probably the best
- 6:49team besides Alabama when they beat Georgia played against that
- 6:53Georgia defense that has that kind of reputation especially in
- 6:55the front 7. So Trinidad Chambliss is a good
- 6:58quarterback they have a good receiving core like now doing it
- 7:01with another offensive coaching staff.
- 7:02I think Charlie Weis junior did return for their game against
- 7:05Tulane, but he was the only one of that offensive assistant
- 7:08coaching staff that return. I'm just curious game plan wise
- 7:11because are they going to deviate so much because they
- 7:14don't have Kiff in there? And are they going to be able to
- 7:16incorporate those same kind of content because this Ole Miss
- 7:18defense is not? It's still good, but it's not
- 7:21the Ole Miss defense of last year when they were the best
- 7:23defense in the SEC last year and they missed the playoff because
- 7:26they lost a couple bad games late in the year.
- 7:28Now, I think if Lane Kiffin was there, I would give I would give
- 7:31Ole Miss a little bit of inch like Errol was saying, Georgia,
- 7:33their passing game is still kind of questionable and that's where
- 7:36I think that could be the damage of reputation.
- 7:38But their running game, if they can control the game in their
- 7:40defense still wins in college football.
- 7:42It's not like in the NFL where you kind of have to have a top
- 7:4412 quarterback and you can get away with having a a good or
- 7:47well coached defense. In college football, outside of
- 7:49really LSU recently and Ohio State last year, there's not a
- 7:52lot of prolific teams with prolific passing attacks that
- 7:55are winning these national championships.
- 7:57So I think Georgia still has the edge in that regard.
- 7:59I think this is a different type of game that you see and.
- 8:02Low scoring, I think they have the easiest way to a
- 8:05championship, a national championship if they win this
- 8:08game against old miss because obviously I we were talking
- 8:11about the the fact that Indiana might have the easiest way, but
- 8:14honestly, no, if Indiana knocks off Alabama, they're matched up
- 8:18against who? Indiana would play Oregon OR.
- 8:20Texas Tech next. That's right.
- 8:22And, and to me, I think Georgia just goes straight, right.
- 8:25So who if Georgia wins this game, who do they say?
- 8:27Then they would face off the Ohio State or Miami winner.
- 8:30So I I that's true. That's true.
- 8:33Maybe. Now it's interesting because
- 8:34Georgia beat Ohio State a few years ago.
- 8:36That was the game we were mocking W about.
- 8:38Got a good happy New Year. So let's let's go into that.
- 8:41If that happens now Ohio State, that doesn't mean Ohio State is
- 8:44going to win that game against Miami because obviously Miami
- 8:49they have the beck and and beck has the opportunity to really
- 8:52prove himself to be a higher draft pick than a lot of people
- 8:55consider him to be. They're saying that he's a early
- 8:58second round pick, maybe mid second round pick going into
- 9:02this class, but so was Jalen Hurts and look what Jalen Hurts
- 9:05has been he's a he's a champion. He's this guy has been
- 9:10sensational. Now Beck is a different type of
- 9:12quarterback and I think that Beck has an opportunity to shine
- 9:16and shine bright against the Ohio State Buckeyes where
- 9:18everybody thinks if Ohio State wins it, they a lot of people
- 9:23believe Ohio State is still the number one team in the nation.
- 9:25They think that Indiana knocking them off was to me, it was just
- 9:29a close game and really luck. It was the battle of the
- 9:31kickers. That's what the that was what
- 9:34the game was. But I do believe that Ohio State
- 9:38is I think has weaknesses and I think Indiana prove that they
- 9:42have weaknesses in that game, in that that conference
- 9:45championship game. So I think that when you look at
- 9:48Miami, I'm not saying Miami is is a great team and a great
- 9:52roster. I do think they're very well
- 9:54coached and I think they have a star quarterback.
- 9:57Now, again, we we know saying, saying his special kid and this
- 10:01guy is going to win a Heisman. He's definitely going to win a
- 10:03Heisman at least once before he plays an NFL football game.
- 10:08But I'll tell you this, he should have never been in the
- 10:11top five for the Heisman voting. And he was I I think he's and
- 10:14I'm not taking shots at him. He's a pretty boy.
- 10:17That's what he is. That's what he looked like.
- 10:19When I, when I get a chance to meet him, out of all the guys,
- 10:22he was the prettiest. So I'm not saying that doesn't
- 10:25mean he can't play the game. But you're going into a big
- 10:28game. You're a freshman, There's a lot
- 10:30of pressure on you. And you have Beck, who's been in
- 10:32college. He's been in college football
- 10:34for how many years? Yeah, five years.
- 10:36He, he's been in this. I don't know if he's been in
- 10:39this stage, but he's in big stages.
- 10:40He's been in stages and he's found ways to win and I do
- 10:44believe that the advantage goes to the veteran quarterback in
- 10:48Miami. That's why I think even though
- 10:51everybody expects Ohio State with the 9.5 favorite when it
- 10:55comes to their defense and what they can do on on the defensive
- 10:58side of the ball, why couldn't Miami put up enough numbers to
- 11:01beat the Ohio State Buckeyes? Miami's defense has a shot to
- 11:04keep this game competitive because they do have one of the
- 11:06top 10 pass rushes in the nation.
- 11:07And if Ohio State's offensive line has an off game like they
- 11:10did against Indiana or even against Michigan in the
- 11:12beginning of that game, they did not.
- 11:13They did not play great. Then Miami, if they can get that
- 11:16defense going, can definitely keep this game close.
- 11:18For a while. I was worried about the way
- 11:20Miami's offense played their last game against Texas A&M.
- 11:23Texas A&M is a top defense as well.
- 11:24They were the best defense in the SEC.
- 11:25That's that's year. I know you Giant fans are going
- 11:28to be watching a player in Caleb Downs.
- 11:30Yeah, I know Fish has like a like this infatuation with this
- 11:33guy. Caleb Downs and Arvel Reese, two
- 11:35of their stars on Ohio State, probably two of the five best
- 11:38defensive players in the country this year, too.
- 11:40So that's what makes it tough on Miami.
- 11:41Miami's They had offense that move the ball effectively for
- 11:44much of the first half of that texting.
- 11:46And every time you mention Caleb Downs, I think Fish has a boner.
- 11:48I mean, I, I can honestly see Fish with the smirk on his face.
- 11:52Oh, give me Caleb. Give me Caleb.
- 11:54I'll, I'll go down. Yeah, Wes was the original 1
- 12:00when he got recruited over there from already transferred over
- 12:02from Ohio. They remember he was in Oklahoma
- 12:04before that too and was a star on a really bad Oklahoma defense
- 12:07for a while. And yeah, that go down for
- 12:11Downs. Yeah, go down for.
- 12:13Yeah, you might. Do you think the running game
- 12:16for Carson Beck, they they have to establish that early for for
- 12:21it to open up the field a little bit?
- 12:22Yes, because I don't know if I could trust the passing game as
- 12:25consistently when it comes to Miami has some decent wide
- 12:29receivers, but they're not really known for it as much now.
- 12:32It's something I mentioned last week is Mario Cristobal when he
- 12:35coached at Oregon, beat Ohio State back in 2021.
- 12:38And offensively, they've always played well against Ryan Day,
- 12:41whatever defensive coordinator they have.
- 12:42They switched around defensive coordinators, obviously, but
- 12:44this type of defense that they've had with Ohio State,
- 12:46which really hasn't changed that much.
- 12:48And I'm curious to see if he adapts a lot of those concepts
- 12:51with a different type of team. With Miami, Carson Beck I think
- 12:54is more of like a he's a smart quarterback, but he's not overly
- 12:57flashy, but sometimes when he gets.
- 13:00He's got a good arm, man. He has a good arm.
- 13:02You just can't have the early turnovers and that's where I
- 13:04think the running game does factor in in the first half,
- 13:06especially because Miami is going to have to win this game
- 13:09on their defense and ball control and not let Ohio
- 13:11State-run away with it early, which is something you saw
- 13:13Indiana do very effectively in that game.
- 13:15Indiana also stopped the run very well and Ohio State both
- 13:18their running back were. You not impressed with what they
- 13:21did against Texas A&M? The Texas A&M where a top three
- 13:24team, you know, really throughout the nation the whole
- 13:28year. But I feel like that game was a
- 13:30tale of like 2 halves like you saw like.
- 13:33Not really, it was just an ugly defensive duel it.
- 13:35Really. Was Miami moved the ball better?
- 13:37They just had a kicker that missed a bunch too.
- 13:39And you got a chance to see why I believe Beck could be a lot
- 13:42better than people think he's going to be in the NFL is that
- 13:45the guy can make every single throw.
- 13:47And, and when, when you put up those kind of numbers in a game
- 13:50where where you expected, I believe, and I thought Texas A&M
- 13:54was going to run away with the game because I thought flat out
- 13:57as far as overall talent, I believe Texas A&M, Georgia, Ohio
- 14:03State, where the as far as all around talent have the out of
- 14:07all the 12 teams were the three best teams when it came to
- 14:09talent on their roster. And Texas A&M just got
- 14:13outclassed by a Miami team. Now, obviously it was a sloppy
- 14:16game. It was an ugly game, but you
- 14:18expect the better teams to win those sloppy games.
- 14:21That's what you expect. And, and Miami just showed you
- 14:24why they can pull off those sloppy games.
- 14:27Ohio State lost an ugly game against Indiana.
- 14:30That was an ugly game. And if it goes to an ugly game,
- 14:34I'm I'm going to put my money on Miami because Ohio State has a
- 14:38young quarterback that's put in a position that's never been
- 14:42there before and and has a chance to win a national
- 14:45championship in his rookie season.
- 14:47I think that's a lot of pressure to put on a young quarterback.
- 14:49Yeah, it's interesting. You're right.
- 14:50No adversity. Ohio State face their biggest,
- 14:53their smallest win, I think before that Indiana game was a
- 14:5517 point win. And that's where, if Miami can
- 14:58get that game to be a ugly defensive duel, or even Georgia
- 15:01in the next round, if they beat Ole Miss and Ohio State beats
- 15:04Miami, they can get it to be an ugly defensive duel too.
- 15:06That definitely makes it into the favor of one of those teams
- 15:09because yeah, those offenses aren't great.
- 15:11Georgia is the opposite where they had Carson back in the last
- 15:13few years and now they have a freshman with Gunner Stockton.
- 15:15Her first time started with Gunner Stockton and then Beck,
- 15:17who's like a fifth year quarterback that's experienced
- 15:19making the smart decisions. That's where it comes down to
- 15:22coaching. And I've always questioned, even
- 15:23though Ryan Days won a national championship, sometimes in game
- 15:25coaching could be a little off and if Cristobal can get it,
- 15:28really if Cristobal can get it where he knows the reputation
- 15:31against him, it could definitely make an interesting matchup.
- 15:33I also think Miami trying to prove it to the committee too
- 15:36was something that factored into their win on A&M.
- 15:38I'm interested to see what Jeremiah Smith's going to do in
- 15:40this game because we know what Jeremiah Smith is.
- 15:42The guy is one of the most explosive wide receivers we've
- 15:45ever seen. And we've talked about Ohio
- 15:47State, Carson. Backed the backup for Georgia
- 15:50when? They Yes, he was.
- 15:51Yes, he was. He was.
- 15:52Yes, he was. That's him.
- 15:52Bannon was the starter. Yep.
- 15:54And, and, and one of the main reasons why he left and he went
- 15:57into the portal is because he believed that Georgia wasn't
- 15:59giving him the better opportunity or giving him the
- 16:02opportunity. You sure it wasn't his
- 16:03girlfriend and the money? I don't think so.
- 16:05I think it had a lot to do with the way Georgia was treating him
- 16:08and he thought that he should have had a chance to be the
- 16:11number one guy. And, and I think they were
- 16:14looking past him. They they saw other guys in and,
- 16:17and, and guys that they were recruiting over the last two or
- 16:20three years that they felt were better options than him.
- 16:23And and caution back made the better choice going to Miami
- 16:26because he has a chance to prove himself if Miami knocks off Ohio
- 16:29State. And like I said, look at the
- 16:31talent Ohio State has there. Jeremiah Smith is going to be a
- 16:34top three pick next year. I don't think there's an
- 16:36argument to that. And, and you look at that class
- 16:39next year with the quarterbacks and game changing players that
- 16:42are going to be in next year's draft class, Jeremiah Smith
- 16:44might be the biggest game changer out of all of them and
- 16:47he's going to go in the top 3. And when you look at Ohio State,
- 16:51they've got they probably got six guys on the offensive side
- 16:54of the ball that are probably going to be first round talents
- 16:57this year on on the defensive side of the ball, might have six
- 17:01or seven guys that are going to go in the top 2 rounds of this
- 17:05year's draft. The first, first round and
- 17:07second round could be thirteen guys from the Ohio State
- 17:10Buckeye. Think about it.
- 17:12Think about how crazy that is. You have 13, maybe 14 guys that
- 17:18could go in the first two rounds of the NFL draft.
- 17:21Yeah, but. That's interesting, but what's
- 17:23the most guys that have been drafted?
- 17:25LSU in 2020, it was like 16. Players.
- 17:28I remember that too. Guys, yeah, they had it.
- 17:30Wasn't even chasing that draft either.
- 17:32Chase always couldn't declare because he sat.
- 17:34Out Burrow, right? Burrow was the first pick.
- 17:37They had Clyde Edwards, Hilaire, they had a couple offensive
- 17:39lineman. They had a lot, a lot of that
- 17:41defense to a lot of their edge rushers went in early.
- 17:44Not of them, not a lot of them have been amazing in that draft.
- 17:46Jefferson obviously too has been amazing and obviously Burrow.
- 17:49But it's 15 or 16 total players that shattered the previous
- 17:54record I think was. 11 And what I've read is that the prediction
- 17:57is, is that there could be thirteen guys out of this class
- 18:01that could go what is this? What is he saying over here?
- 18:03Looks like those are the projected first round picks.
- 18:05Yeah, Downs. That's the aisles too.
- 18:07Is. That's in the first round.
- 18:09That's first round alone. Good.
- 18:10Good job, Fish. Four to six guys that could go
- 18:14in the first round and they're they're saying.
- 18:16Even so, even on the low end there, there's eleven.
- 18:19Yeah, on the on the low end. I what I've read and I, I've
- 18:23spoken to a couple of draft, you know, gurus that we know.
- 18:27He told me that he could see 13 to 14 guys going in the first
- 18:32two rounds from the Ohio State Buckeyes, which is ridiculous
- 18:36when you think about it in this class and, and the talent, the
- 18:39amount of talent, everybody says this is a weak class.
- 18:42They always say that and it turns out to be a really, really
- 18:45dominant class. Every time they tell me, oh,
- 18:47this is a terrible class. Remember the source Garner
- 18:50class? Oh, that was horrible, horrible
- 18:53class. This big blunder.
- 18:54I mean, come on, man, Look how many all pros came out of that
- 18:57class. Look how many guys that right
- 18:59now going into the Pro Bowl, out of that class, I think there's
- 19:03like five guys. Hold on, is, is the Pro Bowl
- 19:05kind of 1 Is it? It's weird because, and I'm I'm
- 19:08not going to talk trash because he's from here, but like Luke
- 19:12Gifford got in and they got in as special teams.
- 19:14But like when you look at like what he did to like earn that
- 19:19and obviously they have different systems that you know
- 19:21he's in and he hasn't seen obviously as much time on the
- 19:25field, but hasn't really done anything different.
- 19:27Special teams is different though, because because you
- 19:30could also be a gunner, you could be a tackler, you could be
- 19:32a long snapper. I mean, we we speak to a lot of
- 19:35people that are Gunners in the NFL that you never even heard
- 19:37of. You never even heard of the guy.
- 19:39And oh, by the way, he's one of the top three Gunners in all of
- 19:42the league. When you look at it, statistics
- 19:44and analytics would tell you that he is never heard of the
- 19:46guy. I mean, The Jets have a gunner
- 19:48right now. That's it.
- 19:49A top ten player in the league. I mean, he might be the only top
- 19:53ten player that Jets have and he's a gunner.
- 19:57I mean, it doesn't when when you think about it, you don't look
- 20:01at those positions until you realize how good a team is when
- 20:04and when they're when you look at special teams, The Jets have
- 20:07always had a good special teams. The team, but everything else
- 20:12has just been up and down. You don't you don't look at
- 20:15special teams to be important until the playoffs because
- 20:17special teams could win you a Super Bowl.
- 20:19How many times have we've seen that?
- 20:21So I it makes a difference when you have good special teams and
- 20:24good coaching. So I, I, I.
- 20:26Look at Why do you think special teams has changed with the new?
- 20:30Rule Oh my God, it to me, it's gotten worse.
- 20:33I, I think it's gotten worse because to me, let's say you
- 20:38kick the ball and, and, and remember the only when you're
- 20:42running, you cannot start running until the ball hits the
- 20:46guy's hands. You cannot start running.
- 20:49And everybody says, well, hey, they're still, they're still
- 20:52getting down there and still stopping.
- 20:54But now players, if they decide not to run, they automatically
- 20:57go to the 35 yard line. Automatically, the 35 yard line,
- 21:00they're almost half of the field already.
- 21:03They're pretty much at the 50 yard line.
- 21:05They're 15 yards away from the 50 yard line.
- 21:08And now with these kickers, the way they can kick, they can kick
- 21:116570 yards. All they got to get to is the 50
- 21:15yard line to get 3 points I mean.
- 21:17Isn't isn't this the most 50 plus yard field goals that have
- 21:21been kicked this year? Most 60 yard field goals kicked
- 21:24of all time. Including the NFL record by Cam
- 21:27Little with the. Jags, it's ridiculous.
- 21:28These guys in the Bulls are thinner or they say has more
- 21:31air, which has more pop and they're saying all this stuff.
- 21:35But it's alarming to me when you think about it, if you don't run
- 21:39and you decide not to run with the ball and you start at the 35
- 21:42yard line, you all you have to do is get to the 50 and these
- 21:46guys are going to kick it 6065 yards.
- 21:48They're going to kick it. So all you got to do is get to
- 21:50the 50 yard line. You got a chance to kick 3
- 21:52points and does that make the game fun to watch?
- 21:56It doesn't. And I think a lot of these new
- 21:59changes, these rule changes have affected the game.
- 22:02Some people, I mean, want to see more offense and others, if
- 22:05you're a defensive guy and I know there's a lot of people
- 22:07that love defense, you wonder, does this benefit the defensive
- 22:10side of the ball? Does it help?
- 22:12Do you draft defensive players in the first round anymore?
- 22:15Think about it, why would you draft a defensive player when
- 22:18it's become an offensive game? I'm going all offense.
- 22:22Why do I need to draft defense? Because if you're starting at
- 22:25the 35 yard line, no matter how good your defense is, they're
- 22:29going to get 3 points no matter what.
- 22:31And look at the and look at the points.
- 22:33There are more points being scored now than there ever has
- 22:36been. Think about it.
- 22:38At one point there was a game this year there was like what,
- 22:4195 points in a game or something like that.
- 22:44It's ridiculous. The Ravens and the.
- 22:45It's a basketball game. Now 41 to 40.
- 22:48I mean, there's more points. We just saw the Niners game
- 22:51yesterday too. Now I don't know the analytics.
- 22:54I'm sure Fish is looking it up right now.
- 22:56There's a I, I would probably bet you there were more points
- 23:00scored this year than there was last year.
- 23:03I'm I'm willing to predict it. A lot of the good offenses are
- 23:06really good and I think that's why you seen a lot more of those
- 23:09shootouts. Even the bad teams were scoring.
- 23:12Even the Giants got 30. 4 The Jets, you can't score for crap
- 23:16because they have no. And the Raiders.
- 23:17And the Raiders, but everybody else, we're putting up points.
- 23:20I mean, honestly, it's alarming when you see the games in the
- 23:24rules because the rules bowled well for the offense.
- 23:26So to me, look at the look at the Buckeyes, look at all the
- 23:30good teams right now in the nation, all the top defensive
- 23:33players that are coming out of this class.
- 23:34Are you drafting defense in the first, in the top 10 or are you
- 23:38drafting all the offense? I if I'm AGM, I'm going all
- 23:42offense because those are the guys that are are going to bold.
- 23:45Well, with the new rules of the NFL, am I right or wrong,
- 23:48Speedy? Yeah, those are the ones that
- 23:49are going to officially with the versatility that you see with
- 23:52offense. And I think that's why you have
- 23:54a lot of these receivers that are going to go earlier in the
- 23:56draft too. And even tight ends like using
- 23:58those prospects like Brock Bowers, like Tyler Warren, that
- 24:00can play all over the place, too.
- 24:02I want to get into the Alabama game because everybody, even
- 24:07though Indiana is the favorites of winning the game, a lot of
- 24:10people think this is going to be one of those games that's going
- 24:13to be an upset Alabama that's squeezed and beat Oklahoma.
- 24:18Oklahoma. Oklahoma, as they call them,
- 24:22Lincoln Riley, who practically built that that program and then
- 24:25went over there to USC. And we don't hear much about USC
- 24:28football anymore except some of the players that come out of the
- 24:31offensive talent that come out of there.
- 24:33They have a wide receiver coming out of that of that team this
- 24:36year that it could be a late first round draft pick.
- 24:39Nevertheless, I I look at this game and if Indiana don't play
- 24:46early top end defense against this Alabama Crimson Tide, this
- 24:51game could get out of hand early in the game.
- 24:53Mendoza is going to get a lot of pressure on him and Alabama is
- 24:56not. This might be the first year
- 24:58that I can say and Alabama's always known for their defense.
- 25:01I would say they're not what everybody thinks they are
- 25:05defensively. They they have a good, they've
- 25:07got a bunch of good defensive players, but they've been up and
- 25:09down all season long. They've been, they've lost games
- 25:13that their defense just didn't show up to.
- 25:16We've never seen a Nick Saban defense do that.
- 25:18Even when the Nick Saban defense is lost, they were in the game
- 25:22and they play top 10 defense. The games that they lost and and
- 25:26there were games that they won this year, they defers just
- 25:28didn't show up. It was their offense and I I
- 25:32think they have one of the best running games right now in the
- 25:34nation. Their offensive lines always
- 25:36elite and, and you can see what they're doing and, and they have
- 25:39one of the best offensive minded coaches in all of college
- 25:42football speedy. Oh yeah, they definitely do.
- 25:44And you look at Alabama reputation in the past has never
- 25:47been that type of defensive, offensive identity does this
- 25:50level. And I think risk receiving core
- 25:53is very fascinating in this game against an Indiana defense that
- 25:56is very good. Like they've been underestimated
- 25:58for a while. They've built it up and they're
- 26:00always known for their running game in the past with their
- 26:02defense, but not to this level. And Alabama is an interesting
- 26:05wild cards like a factor in one of the guys that have been on
- 26:08our show in the past was a transfer over there in CJ Dupree
- 26:10at tight end who's been good offensive line.
- 26:13It's going to have a couple first round picks as well and a
- 26:15ride receiver in Ryan Williams that is really polarizing for
- 26:18Alabama because he burst on the scene last year as a 17 year old
- 26:22against Georgia in that game that Wes was actually at and he
- 26:26was looking like one of the best receivers in college football
- 26:28for a while and then all of a sudden he's dropped off.
- 26:30In recent years he's made some boded drops and stuff like that,
- 26:32but now he started to play well again and you just up and down.
- 26:35So it's tough to tell with that. I'm curious to see with the bye
- 26:39weeks how that's going to factor.
- 26:40Long. I mean, think about it.
- 26:42Indiana has that. Kills momentum, right?
- 26:45Last year you saw. It last year you saw it.
- 26:47Now they changed the structure a little bit because obviously
- 26:50they don't have the the Boise State being the three seat and
- 26:52Arizona State being the four seat scenarios like you did last
- 26:55year where those teams were the conference champions, you know,
- 26:58they were rated as high. They still have the top 4
- 27:00conference champions still being those teams, even though Ohio
- 27:02State lost their conference championship.
- 27:04But nevertheless, you're dealing with a situation that's still a
- 27:07team like Indiana that doesn't have as much experience, could
- 27:09be unprepared for. And that's why I was saying last
- 27:11week, Kirk Signetti, it's interesting with him because he
- 27:14has a lot of experience with JMU, but the FCS games happen
- 27:18earlier. So they don't have this as long
- 27:19of a break in order to do that. So I'm curious how prepared he
- 27:22will be and who the game planning advantage will go to at
- 27:25that point. Because Kayla and Nabor's
- 27:27experienced coach a little. Bit very experienced and he he's
- 27:30he's played in the national championship with Washington
- 27:33with 22 great players in Michael Pennix and and and obviously the
- 27:38the talent that they had over there they what doons Roma doons
- 27:42you see what he's doing in Chicago.
- 27:43How about Ty Simpson versus Fernando Mendoza 2 guys that are
- 27:47going to go into the first round and Ty Simpson a lot of people
- 27:50questioning some people think he could fall out of the top ten
- 27:54and might be a teens type of draft pick.
- 27:57That's what they're saying I'm I'm reading that they might they
- 28:00might fall to 17 or 16 unless somebody trades up for him.
- 28:04It's crazy to think that way when everybody he was saying
- 28:07that it, Simpson and Fernando Mendoza were the two
- 28:10quarterbacks that everybody was talking about maybe fighting for
- 28:12that number one spot early in the season.
- 28:15Yeah, I was. Curious on it because he is
- 28:17somebody that sat for a while at Alabama, could have transferred
- 28:21even in 2023. He was there when Bryce Young
- 28:23was still there as a as a freshman and he sat there.
- 28:26He stayed committed to the program, stayed to make
- 28:28committed to the coaching change when Nick Saban retired.
- 28:30I guess maybe it was something that was he was told because it
- 28:32was inevitable and now he's getting his chance to play
- 28:36finally. They had Jaylen Milro there the
- 28:38last two years too. Jaylen Milro was kind of an up
- 28:40and down, flash of the Pan type quarterback, but was mostly
- 28:42good. So they never, they never took
- 28:44him out. They never had any need to take
- 28:45him out. They made the playoffs in 2023
- 28:47in that controversial year where I don't know if they should have
- 28:49got in over Florida State. Ties like the prototypical
- 28:52quarterback that everybody looks at.
- 28:53He's a mobile quarterback that can throw on the run.
- 28:56He makes his throws on a run. Mendoza's that he's not flashy.
- 29:00He's a guy that stands in the pocket.
- 29:01He's going to step into the pocket.
- 29:03He's going to let the ball go and he's very accurate.
- 29:05He's one of the more accurate quarterbacks.
- 29:07So to me, when you look at the contest here of two quarterbacks
- 29:11and it's a tale of two tapes and you look at Indiana, to me,
- 29:15Indiana has been the best team throughout the country all
- 29:18season long. But if you look at the teams
- 29:20that they've beaten, they've only beaten 3 really good teams.
- 29:23Indiana didn't really beat elite teams all season long.
- 29:27It was set up for them to go undefeated into this this
- 29:30tournament. Now the question I want to bring
- 29:33fishing because I talk about offensive lines and I for years
- 29:37Alabama has been so dominant when, when they, the way they
- 29:42recruit players. And this might be an important,
- 29:46important year to watch how good Alabama's offensive line is
- 29:51going to hold up for, for them against the Indiana team.
- 29:54The, the, to me, the Hoosiers have been a very good defensive
- 29:58team this year, very, very good. And the way Alabama's offensive
- 30:02line has played in the second-half of the season has
- 30:05been very, very good. And I, I, that's to me, it's
- 30:09been known. Everybody knows what Alabama
- 30:11could do. If you have an offensive line
- 30:12that could beat you on the trenches, no matter how good
- 30:15your defense is, they could shut you down.
- 30:17And there's always going to be changes.
- 30:20Do you think they made changes the right way for the playoff or
- 30:26do you think that there's better ways that they could do it as
- 30:29far as like using some old methods mixed with the new
- 30:33methods to make it? Well, the only way to do it
- 30:36without using the bye week Java just based on the number of
- 30:38teams if they weren't expanded to 16, but again they decided to
- 30:42keep it's too. Long.
- 30:43They wait too long Why? Why are we waiting till, I don't
- 30:47know, New Year's Day and New Year's Eve to watch Indiana
- 30:50play? Indiana hasn't played in three
- 30:52weeks. You're.
- 30:52Going to tell me that's a. Long time at.
- 30:54This point as a coach Fish, do you, do you want that
- 30:57consistency and not that long, obviously the long layoff, maybe
- 31:01you can get some guys healthier, but do you want to take the
- 31:05momentum into it or do you take that extra time or how to like
- 31:09how do you look at it from your perspective?
- 31:12So two things. Let me start with your question
- 31:14first. Java, the momentum thing.
- 31:16If you listen to the analytics gurus, there's no such thing as
- 31:19momentum. I think anyone who's ever played
- 31:22a sport competitively knows that's not true.
- 31:24Maybe we don't know how to quantify it today, but it's a
- 31:27real thing, right? It's a real thing.
- 31:29And when you have, you know, everyone's in rhythm, you know,
- 31:33you have, for example, like Ohio State saying he's this freshman
- 31:37quarterback, but he was hitting passes like 80% clip because
- 31:40they're in this rhythm. It's really hard to create
- 31:44getting hit when you're not playing a real game.
- 31:48So it ends up becoming how well do you practice during those
- 31:52weeks and how physical are you during those practices?
- 31:57At the same time trying to stay healthy, but at the same time
- 31:59trying to make sure that we're getting good enough looks ready.
- 32:03How do you do that as a coach to try?
- 32:05I'll tell you what I did. This is a problem we have with
- 32:08high school kids on long road trips.
- 32:10So we had a game up in Binghamton area, so it was like
- 32:13a 2 1/2 hour drive. We've see somebody on a long
- 32:15road trip and they were just going at it before the game and
- 32:20I'm looking across the field. I'm like their lineman are
- 32:23bigger than ours. That's a problem and I just look
- 32:26at my other coach, I'm like, just get out the boards.
- 32:27Let's go board drills. We're just going to go live for
- 32:30the next 10 minutes. one-on-one, you push me back sumo wrestling,
- 32:34just literally get the physicality going because if you
- 32:38don't wake up, we're going to be down 28 nothing before we blink
- 32:42because we're coming out so flat and coming out flat is the is
- 32:47the killer of every team. You know, that's when like the
- 32:49coach, you know, at the end of the game, like, oh, you know, we
- 32:52may have got that screwed on that pass interference, but we
- 32:54came out flat in the front first quarter and that's why we lost
- 32:57this game. It wasn't one call by the
- 32:59officials because we came out flat.
- 33:01And it's the thing that you don't even know.
- 33:03Some teams, they need to be like really amped up.
- 33:06Like you've been on different teams Java where like there's a
- 33:09lot of rah rah guys in the locker room in some situations,
- 33:12in some situations, like it's eerily quiet when guys are
- 33:15locked in. So sometimes you just it's like
- 33:18just the vibe of the team and it's hard to say.
- 33:21And I think a lot of it's the vibe of the coach and, and can
- 33:23the coach keep them, especially at this, at this stage of the
- 33:26game, locked in and focused and like physically locked in.
- 33:31It's not just knowing your plays at this level, it's being ready
- 33:34to play and hit like collision style.
- 33:37Like think about like guys like Kyle Hamilton when he played in
- 33:41college, he was this unbelievable safety In other
- 33:43games. It he was an unbelievable
- 33:46athlete in the college game. He just was going sideline to
- 33:49sideline and no one else could do what he did.
- 33:51And you see guys like that and you're like, he doesn't need to
- 33:55be playing a lot of reps That guy can get a couple of weeks
- 33:58off. Give me that guy ready.
- 34:00Maybe he's like a, he's slow for a play or two.
- 34:03He'll be fine. I'd rather him be healthy.
- 34:06So I want to make sure of that going in.
- 34:09I'm really happy to get the bye. But then there's other teams
- 34:12where it's like, you know, if this guy doesn't play every
- 34:14week, he's kind of crap. You know, he kind of gets that
- 34:17into bad habits. Offensive lineman.
- 34:20This is a real critical thing. Like guys don't aren't
- 34:22consistent with their hands. It's not just hand placement,
- 34:26it's you know how you're handling guys going inside move
- 34:30on you to outside move. If you're keep getting caught by
- 34:32something, well, obviously they're doing it for a reason to
- 34:36you. You need to figure out why
- 34:37you're getting beat on something.
- 34:39But if you can't figure it out, you, you just suck for that
- 34:43game. So there's like a whole bunch of
- 34:45like, you need to know your players and as a coach, you need
- 34:48to figure out who needs what kind of coaching in those two
- 34:52weeks that you're off. I I personally would rather have
- 34:55the bye week than not to get my guys healthy and trust that I
- 34:58can coach them. Up.
- 34:59I'm not waiting ready for the game.
- 35:01I'm not waiting three weeks. If I'm Indiana, I work my ass
- 35:04off all year round stuff and I got to wait three weeks to get
- 35:09my quarter final game going and I'm playing.
- 35:12I'm matched up against the Alabama Crimson died a team that
- 35:17has been national champions. Obviously de Boer is not Nick
- 35:20Saban, but the way they recruit players, they have a tremendous
- 35:24amount of talent over there on their roster.
- 35:26And you're matched up against Ty Simpson.
- 35:28To me, was a Heisman Trophy candidate all season long until
- 35:31really the last five games of six games of the season where he
- 35:35fell off. And he hasn't really been the
- 35:38same player. But you seen opportunity when
- 35:41you're when you're when you're recruiting a player or your NFL
- 35:45scout and you're looking at players that you think will fit
- 35:49that NFL culture. You're not looking at Mendoza
- 35:52anymore. You're looking at that Ty
- 35:54Simpson because his mobility, his ability to move outside of
- 35:58the pocket and and run and throw and his, his ability to do
- 36:02things in and escape from problems outside of the pocket.
- 36:06That's what you look at. And that's where I think that
- 36:08this game could go to Alabama side.
- 36:11If Ty could get out of the pocket and do the things that
- 36:14he's good at and make Indiana fall out of discomfort of the
- 36:20positioning on the defensive side of the ball.
- 36:22I think he's going to make it a long, long day for that Indiana
- 36:25defense. And I, I think it's going to be
- 36:28a problem for Indiana. So to comment on what you asked
- 36:31me before about the offensive line, I think this game
- 36:34specifically is an offensive line game.
- 36:37Now, Alabama's probably going to have a slight advantage in the
- 36:40offensive. Line 100%.
- 36:41They do 100%. But it's not all talent, right?
- 36:45It's got to be more like how they functionally handle
- 36:48blitzes, the how good their scheme is and how well they can
- 36:51execute their scheme, getting combo blocks up to the second
- 36:54level and so on and so forth. Like all those little like those
- 36:58like buzzwords you hear coaches say.
- 36:59But what, what we're really talking about is even if they're
- 37:03a little bit better, it doesn't. It's it's like you can get a
- 37:07slight advantage from it only when it's like a massacre of
- 37:11like how much better than the game is over.
- 37:13But at this level, we already saw them hang with Ohio State.
- 37:17We already saw them beat Ohio State.
- 37:20Hang with them. Physically, they're going to be
- 37:23able. To They didn't wait.
- 37:24They didn't have to wait three weeks to play Alabama.
- 37:28You're right, you're right. But Alabama's got to wait three
- 37:31weeks for them too. And I think the thing that you
- 37:33have to. Alabama had to wait 2.
- 37:35Weeks, right Signeti. They played Friday.
- 37:37They played last Friday. Yeah, well, a week, OK.
- 37:39Well, regardless, Signeti's not sitting around doing nothing.
- 37:44You got to remember this guy I know who's the first ever
- 37:47back-to-back coach of the year. The thing that I really like, I
- 37:50met the guys. They're I met the guys, they're
- 37:52blitz packages that they do. They're kind of a little bit
- 37:55more creative than what a lot of teams face.
- 37:58So Alabama's going to be tested. It's not the talent of the
- 38:02player that's going to be tested.
- 38:04It's going to be the talent of the.
- 38:05Scheme. You know what's?
- 38:06Interesting talent of what they're doing.
- 38:07Fish, you say that though too and you brought up something and
- 38:10like the coach is obviously not staying stagnant or whatever.
- 38:13So do you think too this is almost as much as it is on the
- 38:17field? Do you think it's it's the game
- 38:19of the coaches and how they prepare them with that weight?
- 38:23That is obviously we'll never see and you can't really
- 38:26quantify that, but how you obviously you have your schemes,
- 38:29you have your packages, you have all that, but where they keep
- 38:33them prepared not only physically, but mentally to know
- 38:36with that weight, get guys healthy where it's kind of a a
- 38:39chess match between the coaches to see if somebody does come out
- 38:44flat or if they don't and and who was better prepared in here
- 38:48in that complex of what it is here's.
- 38:49What I will say from that and I, I, I'm sorry, cut in, but
- 38:52because I, I know everybody looks at the coaching and, and
- 38:55the coaching means a lot in college football.
- 38:58But to me, the, the cream always rises to the top.
- 39:03And I believe with these games, no matter how good the coaching
- 39:08is, the players have to show up in the game and make the plays.
- 39:11It's not the coaches. The coaches will try to put you
- 39:14in the right position to succeed.
- 39:16It's to me, it's, it's those guys.
- 39:18Are they going to show up in the game and do the things that they
- 39:21need to do to come out the winner?
- 39:23And I just look at this game and I look at Alabama and I look at
- 39:26it a team like Indiana, Indiana's never been in position
- 39:30like this before. Alabama has they're always
- 39:33there. Every year they're there.
- 39:35And that's why everybody thinks that this could be an upset
- 39:38Alabama is going to knock off the Hoosiers because the
- 39:41Hoosiers are never there. Though this is the first time
- 39:44the Hoosiers have been a number one seed, first time ever.
- 39:48But when it comes to college football, they've ever been a
- 39:51number one seed and they have the Heisman Trophy winner that
- 39:54everybody thinks is just going to rise right off to the sunset
- 39:57and win a national championship. I like Mendoza, I think he's
- 40:00special, but one player doesn't win championships.
- 40:04I've said this about Tom Brady. Everybody can say whatever they
- 40:06want. Tom this, Tom that.
- 40:08Tom Brady, if you look at his success rate in the Super Bowl,
- 40:13Tom Brady, some of his best games were his losing games.
- 40:16I mean, seriously. That and that's just the facts.
- 40:19Facts are look at Patrick Mahomes.
- 40:22Patrick Mahomes wasn't great in the Super Bowls and but he wins.
- 40:25But they always win the MVP. Why?
- 40:27Because he's the quarterback. And I look at this the same way
- 40:30everybody's looking at the quarterback play Ty Simpson
- 40:33versus Fernando Mendoza, whoever comes out and plays better is
- 40:37going to win. Wrong again.
- 40:39I do believe Fish, you're absolutely right.
- 40:42I think this is the battle of the offensive line.
- 40:44Whoever plays better on the offensive line, you're going to
- 40:48see early that team is going to win.
- 40:50I and I just think both teams have great offensive lines.
- 40:54Alabama, I just think to me always have the elite of elite
- 41:00and the boar. To me, one of the best offensive
- 41:03minds in college football, you could say top three.
- 41:06Who's the kid? Who's the guy from Texas?
- 41:08He's Sarkeesian, they say is the best.
- 41:11They say he's the best offensive mind in college football right
- 41:14now, and they believe we'll be an NFL coach again.
- 41:17One one way or another. He's right, right on to him and
- 41:20Signeti. I think he's he's great coach
- 41:24and he's great. It's great that he wants coach
- 41:25of the year. Who cares?
- 41:27It's all about winning national championship.
- 41:30Nick Saban never cared about. Here's the deal.
- 41:33You're like, you're like writing him off before.
- 41:35I'm not I met the guy. I was one of the I met the guy I
- 41:40I understand what type of person he is.
- 41:42You do when he walked in the room all the meat Mendoza was
- 41:46over there when when he walked into the room the the cameras
- 41:50were off Mendoza. So the way he he controls.
- 41:54The people strike you kind of like like a football version of
- 41:57Calipari. You want.
- 41:59You want me to. You want me to tell you who he
- 42:01reminds me of? And it's it's it's crazy to say
- 42:04why I believe Bill Parcells. He went up there and the first
- 42:09thing he said to his team when he went up there and when he was
- 42:12screaming, when he walked off the stage.
- 42:15Very simple guys enjoy this because when it comes to Monday,
- 42:20we're not having fun anymore. It's time to practice.
- 42:23That was the first thing he said before he even spoke to the
- 42:26media. So like, that's why I think
- 42:29they're going to win. And I just want to say I do
- 42:31believe Alabama's got a better line, but I don't believe they
- 42:35have a better coach. I think this guy might be
- 42:38special. I think he's waited a very long
- 42:41time to get to this point and what he's done and trying to get
- 42:44them locked in to play this game.
- 42:47Look, you brought up Nick Saban. And to answer your question,
- 42:50Java, you know, Nick Saban put his players in a position to be
- 42:55successful, but he always wanted to have an advantage
- 42:58athletically. So he out recruited everybody
- 43:00and did things probably under the table to make sure that he
- 43:03did. That was his game.
- 43:04And when he had the advantage, he'd exploit you.
- 43:05But if he didn't have the advantage like he didn't in a
- 43:08lot of those Georgia games, it becomes physically those two
- 43:12teams were even for years and eventually I think Georgia
- 43:14surpassed them a little bit. Physicality wise.
- 43:18Physicality wise, right, But for the longest time they were very
- 43:20even. So what happened in those games,
- 43:22you kind of have to out scheme people.
- 43:24You have to have the teams that don't make all the penalties.
- 43:27You have to have the team that doesn't crumble when the big
- 43:31play comes in. You have to have the guts to go
- 43:34to a guy you've only seen do it in practice into A tag of Iola
- 43:38and when it's been Jalen Hurts his team all along and win the
- 43:41national championship with a freshman like that's type of.
- 43:45Just be 2015 Ohio State that with three different
- 43:47quarterbacks. Right.
- 43:49Well, but The thing is like those guys, those were great
- 43:51coaches that understood their teams and it's stuff that you
- 43:55can't see during the week. You can't see it because it's
- 43:58something that's behind closed doors and it's kind of like.
- 44:02I'm betting on the guy that's done it before and I and again,
- 44:06I I want to see Mendoza go. I want to see Indiana shock the
- 44:09world and and do it and face off next.
- 44:12Week What is the board done? Morgan, or to be fair.
- 44:15De Boer hasn't won anything. Yeah, but de Boer's been hasn't
- 44:18won. De Boer's been to a national.
- 44:19Champion Washington did beat a Texas team that was a.
- 44:22Lot more time dude. De Boer was picked by Alabama.
- 44:25I'm just saying he he has. To be the next coach.
- 44:28I'm just saying he hasn't won everything.
- 44:29Just think about this. Out of all the coaches they
- 44:32could have picked to take over for Nick Saban's job, they
- 44:35picked the boar. They could have taken anybody.
- 44:38They took the boar. Anybody would have taken that
- 44:40Alabama. You can't tell me, though.
- 44:42Nick Saban didn't have any say in that.
- 44:43Maybe, maybe, probably did, but probably.
- 44:46That was the case. Like why wouldn't they were like
- 44:48thrown the farm at Dabo sweetie, I mean.
- 44:50Nick Saban played against the boar.
- 44:51He knows what it is to play against the boar in a national
- 44:54championship. So he he knows.
- 44:56And we've seen Saban's lineage and what guys have moved on when
- 45:00they've been under Saban. So you can't tell me that he was
- 45:03like, this is the next dude. I, I will say this and I, I
- 45:07saved the final game because I think this is going to be the
- 45:10best game. I really do.
- 45:12Everybody's looking at me and I probably think I'm crazy, but I
- 45:15think Oregon versus Texas Tech is the best game of the week.
- 45:21I I I really do believe that. And the odds are the closest
- 45:25obviously or 2.5 I an organ has a chance.
- 45:30I mean they have more and more a lot of speedy thinks could be
- 45:34the best quarterback in his class.
- 45:36The talent that this kid has is unbelievable.
- 45:40The speed, the ability, the agility that this kid has
- 45:43stepping outside of the pocket, making throws, great arm,
- 45:47everything. But he cannot start early in his
- 45:51NFL career as the number one guy.
- 45:53He would be the number 2. He's going to have to sit and
- 45:56ride the bench for at least a half a year to understand how
- 45:59the the speed of the game works for him.
- 46:01If he goes to a team that's going to start him, he's going
- 46:03to fail. But this is such an interesting
- 46:06game because Texas Tech is one of the best defensive teams in
- 46:08the country and Oregon is always one of the best offensive teams
- 46:12in the country. And Danny Lanning, how do you
- 46:16not like this guy? You want to tell?
- 46:18Everybody knows he's my favorite coach.
- 46:21He is my favorite guy. I want to get Danny landing on
- 46:23the show because I I would have a lot of fun with the guy.
- 46:26His personality, he's his edge to his anybody.
- 46:30Go and check out his locker room, his speeches, they're
- 46:32hilarious. He doesn't, he doesn't hold
- 46:35anything back from his players to the media to anybody.
- 46:39He is the prototypical person you want as your head coach and
- 46:44to go into this game. I would love to be in that
- 46:46locker room before the game and hear his pitch to his team.
- 46:51Oh, we got a chance to play Indiana.
- 46:54We can knock off the the number one seed.
- 46:56We, we can go all the way, guys, we can go all the way.
- 46:59So I just I look at this game and there's so many things that
- 47:03can happen in this game. And I think whoever wins this
- 47:06game, whoever they're matched up against, Alabama, Indiana, I
- 47:10wouldn't be surprised if they win and knock off Alabama or
- 47:16Indiana. I, I really do believe it
- 47:18because that's, that's who they would match up against, right?
- 47:21I think Oregon or Texas Tech can knock off any one of these guys,
- 47:26Alabama and Indiana, just because Texas Tech has proven
- 47:29this year that they could stop anybody defensively, stop
- 47:31anybody. It doesn't matter who it is,
- 47:33what quarterback is, what offense, what coach.
- 47:36I've seen this team run through people.
- 47:37They just don't score a lot. And and that's always been the
- 47:40problem all season long. But they can run the ball, and
- 47:43running in defense is all about winning championships.
- 47:47You ask any great coach, go ask Alabama, Nick Saban.
- 47:50Why did they dominate so many years?
- 47:53Is because they always had the best running game and they
- 47:55always had the best defense. And they dominate the line of
- 47:58scrimmage because they have a great offensive line.
- 48:00Texas Tech has all of that, and Oregon, they have the lightning
- 48:04switch. They got the coach and they got
- 48:07the quarterback and honestly could be the best quarterback,
- 48:10speedy in all of this tournament if he shows up and plays at the
- 48:16top of his game. Oregon also has a chip on their
- 48:18shoulder too because of what happened to them last year.
- 48:20They were the number one overall seed.
- 48:21They got smoked by Ohio State badly in that second round match
- 48:25up and they know that they can't just play just talent driven
- 48:29based on that and what we were talking about last week, Dan
- 48:31Lanning saying that he was not impressed with their performance
- 48:33in the second-half too. Don't you love that?
- 48:35But he knows that. Kind of thing to be true.
- 48:37They just can't coast on talent, just even against a team like
- 48:40JMU that has a good reputation of winning FCS championships.
- 48:44So now obviously they dominated the game, but still they should
- 48:46dominate that game and Oregon talent wise coming into the year
- 48:49was thought of as probably a top 7.
- 48:51How many ducks have we had on this show in the last 10 years,
- 48:54Speedy? Three, I believe.
- 48:56Three Ducks? And how many Ducks were coached
- 48:58by Dan? Dan Lanning 2 And what did they
- 49:01say about Lanning? He is the coach that everyone,
- 49:04all the players want to rally around because of the he he's
- 49:07kind of like he comes off as kind of loose on the field.
- 49:10But in the like you said, in the like press conferences, in the
- 49:14team meetings and stuff, he could be very tough.
- 49:16And that's where I think is makes Oregon an interesting
- 49:19wild. Where is Gonzales come from?
- 49:21What? What's Oregon?
- 49:22OK, did you hear what Gonzales said after this game after
- 49:26knocking off The Jets when they asked him about the Oregon game
- 49:29against Texas Tech? Did you hear?
- 49:30What he said. Pretty, it's pretty simple,
- 49:33Gonzalez says. And remember, he is is it's his
- 49:37alma mater and all that other stuff.
- 49:38So we all understand this. But he said if there's any coach
- 49:42that you can trust in a big game that's going to rally the troops
- 49:45and get you to play, no matter how unhealthy or healthy your
- 49:49team is, it's Dan Lanning. And and he says that Lanning is
- 49:52the best coach, no, no doubt in this tournament and is going to
- 49:56find a way to knock off the exit stack.
- 49:58And I'm telling you right now. I think that goes to what Fish
- 50:01was talking about, about how like coaches have to have that
- 50:05innate ability to understand and how you challenge guys with
- 50:09breaks and whatever and we still.
- 50:11Especially from learning from last year, that's where I think
- 50:14he has to understand it. Now it's a different team with a
- 50:16five seed do you think? This is the year, sweetie, that
- 50:18if Oregon knocks off Texas Tech, do you think this is the year
- 50:22that they can surprise and shock people and go to a national
- 50:25champion? They could I I again, I I look
- 50:28at the Alabama and Oklahoma and Indiana cluster those three as
- 50:31being like the the teams to beat.
- 50:33Oregon only lost to Indiana though, by 10, and that's their
- 50:37only loss to the regular season. They have just as much talent I
- 50:40think besides. And that was the game, and I'll
- 50:43tell you this, that was the game.
- 50:44Mendoza came out and said that he knew that he had a chance to
- 50:47win the Heisman Trophy when he beat Oregon.
- 50:50That was the game that changed everything because there were a
- 50:53lot of questions. Oh, could I win the Heisman?
- 50:55He said that when we beat Oregon, we went to Oregon and
- 50:59beat Oregon, right? That changed everything for us.
- 51:02Everything. And that kind of that kind of
- 51:04thing is definitely enticing of what Oregon could be as
- 51:07potential redemption type thing. Because again, it's going to be
- 51:09hard. I mean, you can win going
- 51:11undefeated in college football. We've seen it probably more than
- 51:13anything just because of the power, the power struggle and
- 51:16just having less games as a whole.
- 51:18But Oregon was one of those teams that got victimized by
- 51:20their own success last year, getting spoke by Ohio State.
- 51:23And now you look at a case of Dan Lanning, who comes from
- 51:25Georgia. He was one of the defensive
- 51:27assistants over there. You have an Oregon team that is
- 51:29offensively sound. Their defense is good, but it's
- 51:32not something you would know for it.
- 51:33So that makes an interesting class too, like game planning
- 51:35wise on this kind of defense too.
- 51:37And then Texas Tech on the other side has a defense that's
- 51:39unbelievable, especially in that front 7 going up against an
- 51:42offensive line in Oregon that's also one of the best too.
- 51:44So you have a lot of good game planning matchups there.
- 51:46What's going to be an interesting one of Baron Morton?
- 51:48Baron Morton, their starting quarterback for Texas Tech deal
- 51:51with a leg injury, how healthy he is.
- 51:53And it goes to what you were asking before Jabba.
- 51:55There might want to be one of the teams that benefit off of
- 51:58the fact that they had to wait because they have more of a
- 52:00younger coach that can game plan to counter landing.
- 52:03And they have a quarterback that can get healthier as a result
- 52:05because he's showing really good flashes this year.
- 52:06He's just very inconsistent. But if they can win their
- 52:09defense in a neutral site it could definitely be interesting.
- 52:12And if they do advance to the next round I would probably
- 52:14wouldn't favor them. But it depend on how they win
- 52:16this game. I never know.
- 52:17With these tournaments, you can't favor anybody.
- 52:20It doesn't matter how good Ohio State is or Indiana and who they
- 52:23have on their team and their roster.
- 52:25It's all about it. It's anybody's anybody's game.
- 52:27It's one game. There's no playoff.
- 52:29That's the thing about football. You play one game.
- 52:31If you show up that game, you win.
- 52:32You don't show up that game, you lose.
- 52:34And I, and there's any when, when you look at these two
- 52:37teams, if there's a surprise in this tournament that can go to a
- 52:41national championship, these are the two teams, Texas Tech and
- 52:45Oregon. Because I think Oregon, as far
- 52:47as offensively sound, this is the best offensive team in the
- 52:50nation. I don't care what anybody says.
- 52:52You know what's interesting about that, like how they're
- 52:54built is he wants to have all the great athletes on offense so
- 52:59he can coach up the defense 100%, like really good players
- 53:02on defense. But he's not.
- 53:04He just wants to out athlete people on offense and he that's
- 53:08what he does. The problem that Oregon runs
- 53:10into is when they go against like really athletic secondaries
- 53:14and they can't get open like that Penn State game was real
- 53:17hairy for them. And that was what, you know, set
- 53:20off Gent that that spiral for James Franklin to get fired.
- 53:23They lose that in double O. They win it in double overtime
- 53:26and it kind of propels them forwards Oregon.
- 53:28But you got to remember like they've been in a lot of close
- 53:31ones. I don't think they're
- 53:33necessarily great talented on the defensive side.
- 53:36I think they're great coached on the defensive side.
- 53:38I think they're really talented on offense.
- 53:41I think they're coached well in offense, but I worry that if
- 53:43they run into a team that's more athletic than them, like we
- 53:47we've talked about earlier in this conversation, I think
- 53:50they're the squad that ends up in trouble out of all these
- 53:53other. Teams.
- 53:54I wonder when, when the way everything is set up and the way
- 53:58the committee obviously decides who gets into these, these
- 54:02tournaments, the 12 team tournament to go all the way for
- 54:05a national championship. When you look at how they're
- 54:08matched up and how they consider these guys are going to be
- 54:10matched up when they play one another, if they get out of that
- 54:13round and they get into the quarterfinals, If they wanted to
- 54:16see these matches catch ups. And I believe that when you look
- 54:20at Texas Tech and what they can do on a football field and
- 54:23again, Alabama, when you look at Alabama and Indiana, Alabama and
- 54:28Indiana never played this year. They never played against one
- 54:30another, so they never seen each other.
- 54:32So, but guess what? Indiana and Oregon have seen
- 54:36each other and if they match up against each other, if Indiana
- 54:39knocks off Alabama, I agree with you, Speedy.
- 54:43The match up bolds better in a better position for Oregon.
- 54:47And if Oregon knocks off Indiana, that's smooth riding
- 54:51all the way to a national championship.
- 54:53And we're talking about more, could you imagine more who a lot
- 54:57of people believe is going to be a top five pick if he wins a
- 55:00national championship or knocks off Mendoza?
- 55:03Do you look, if you're the Raiders, you look at, hey, you
- 55:06know what, let's bring in more. Let's sit, let him ride the
- 55:09bench for a, you know, 6-7 weeks.
- 55:11And this is the guy that we're going to ride because we need a,
- 55:14we need a mobile quarterback because we have no offensive
- 55:16line. Like you said, fish so and more
- 55:19is that kind of guy. So is Ty Simpson.
- 55:22I'd stay away from Ty Simpson at #1.
- 55:24That early, yeah. But more speedy, you might be
- 55:27right all around talent. What this guy could do on a
- 55:30football field offensively. I I mean, who's the last guy you
- 55:34seen that could run and throw like this guy?
- 55:36There's a. Lot of Jaden Daniels in his game
- 55:38to me 100%. And that's why I think he's
- 55:41still Caleb Williams. Caleb Williams, yeah.
- 55:44And I think again, decision making wise is the only main
- 55:46reason I'm thinking he's wrong just because he this was his
- 55:49first full year as a starter. Last year he was kind of
- 55:50mistreated by Chip Kelly and that at UCLA and that led to his
- 55:54whole debacle of him getting fired this year.
- 55:57And then I think he stepped down on my own state.
- 55:59But like. And here's the thing, and I'm
- 56:00sorry to cut you off. If if you look at the Raiders
- 56:03and they bring in more, you fire.
- 56:05And I'll just say this, I love I love their their old codes.
- 56:08I love them. I, I going after Kubiak, I am
- 56:13absolutely hiring Kubiak to be my head coach and have this guy
- 56:18develop him because you know, his father, Kubiak won and with
- 56:22the Broncos. This guy is one of the best
- 56:24offensive minds the NFL has had as an offensive coordinator and
- 56:28head coach. Go ask Peyton Manning.
- 56:30Peyton Manning said that Kubiak is one of the smartest offensive
- 56:33minds he's ever worked with. So think about it that way.
- 56:36When you look at Kubiak and his son, his it's his son worked his
- 56:40way up all these years. Look what he's done with Seattle
- 56:43and now look what he could do over there with the Raiders with
- 56:46a young quarterback with the mobility this kid has to get out
- 56:50of trouble. I think it's I I absolutely do
- 56:53this if I'm if Moore proves himself in this tournament to be
- 56:56important and and show that he could show up in the big game
- 56:59and make the plays. I'm absolutely if I'm the Vegas
- 57:02Raiders going after more fish is right.
- 57:04You have a better offensive line.
- 57:05You need to you need to clean something up, and this guy is a
- 57:09guy that can clean up a lot of deficiencies your offensive
- 57:12blind doesn't give you. Yeah, and that's why I was
- 57:14mentioning when we talked about the Oregon and JMU game that
- 57:16Dante Moore still has a lot of those Jameis Winston blunders in
- 57:20his in his game too, where he had some really bad
- 57:22interceptions. And that's why I think he really
- 57:25has to adhere to the coaching right away and whoever does
- 57:28draft him can't start him right away because of that.
- 57:30I think the Patriots that Drake may have up until Week 6 his
- 57:33rookie year and then they played him.
- 57:34He has to Morris to sit longer for me.
- 57:36But I think that reputation wise especially, he does go far in
- 57:39this tournament. If he does end up being some
- 57:41good teams and playing well, gets a good team could
- 57:43definitely help. Who do you think is the best
- 57:45quarterback in in in a 12 team draw like this all around
- 57:50talent. And I'm going to ask all of you
- 57:51guys if if you guys follow and you've been following the end of
- 57:54the college, college season, who do you think is the most most
- 57:58talented overall quarterback out of all 12 teams?
- 58:01I would give it to more right now but I think saying is very
- 58:03close too. I like him a lot.
- 58:05How about you job? Are you staying most talented?
- 58:07Or all around talents all around.
- 58:09Talent gonna be the best in the NFL.
- 58:11No, I don't know about that because we don't know how they
- 58:12can develop and where they. Get go to.
- 58:14We can look at it like this and we've seen a lot of great
- 58:18quarterbacks in college football that haven't done anything in
- 58:22the NFL like so are we just taking it as a college football?
- 58:26As a talent of the quarterback. Take a whack at it.
- 58:29If you look at the all around talent that these guys deliver
- 58:32as quarterbacks. I got an easy answer to this.
- 58:34His name's Mendoza. He is so good at putting the
- 58:39ball wherever he wants it. It's not just that he hits the
- 58:42guys that are open. He does the thing that Eli
- 58:45Manning used to do and it's like he would put it on his left
- 58:49shoulder, underneath the shoulder pad in the one spot
- 58:52that is easy to catch. Like he knows where to put the
- 58:55ball for different scenarios. And he's playing well beyond his
- 59:00years with the type of throws that he makes.
- 59:02You don't see guys making those throws in college.
- 59:05He just is making professional throws that are high level.
- 59:09It's it's not like like Saiyan's doing a great job.
- 59:12He's hitting. He had what, 7880% completion
- 59:15for? 8 That's not the reason I mainly
- 59:16like. Him.
- 59:17He also has Jeremiah Smith the throw too.
- 59:19That's why I don't. I'm not going to put his number
- 59:21one point though. It's not like it's hard to throw
- 59:23Speedy to to top ten. You know, Tate might be a top
- 59:27ten pick. I don't think he is, but.
- 59:29I wouldn't draft a little worried about him, but yeah.
- 59:32Right. Well, he's got great hands, you
- 59:34know, like, and as far as the the quarterback having to sit, I
- 59:37mean, Brady Cook wasn't drafted. He's playing for The Jets US
- 59:39right now. You know, it doesn't matter if
- 59:41they're going to sit or not at the beginning of the season.
- 59:44Can they contribute at some point in their first year, even
- 59:46if it's not a lot? And that's really, really what
- 59:49you want to see. I think Jackson Dart contribute
- 59:51a little bit in this first year. They weren't going anywhere, but
- 59:54we got to see some flashes. That's all you're looking for
- 59:57for some of those project quarterbacks.
- 59:59More if I'm the Raiders. I don't take him at 1.
- 1:00:03I don't think I'm taking a project at one.
- 1:00:05That scares the crap out of me. Last time they had a first
- 1:00:08overall pick, Arrow Russell, they took a project at one.
- 1:00:12His name was Jamarcus Russell. Hey, Kevin knows all about that.
- 1:00:15And it's the worst draft pick of all time, literally.
- 1:00:19Is it worse than Ryan Leaf? Yes, it's worse.
- 1:00:22Yeah, it is worse because I think Ryan Leaf, single season
- 1:00:26wise, might have had the worst. Like paid.
- 1:00:28Morning had a very bad single season as a rookie.
- 1:00:31I mean, how many interceptions did he throw that year?
- 1:00:33He wasn't stopped in the air with the purple drink, though.
- 1:00:38That's fine. I, I again, I, I'm not, I don't
- 1:00:42know what the Raiders are going to do and they're obviously
- 1:00:44going to fire their head coach because it seems like nobody is
- 1:00:48buying into his crap. And Geno Smith looks like he's
- 1:00:51done. I, I, I if I were the Raiders,
- 1:00:54I'm bringing in a mobile quarterback because there's no
- 1:00:57way if you bring in Mendoza that he is going to survive.
- 1:01:00No matter who you bring in as a head coach, it's not going to
- 1:01:02make any sense. And there's not enough offensive
- 1:01:05lineman that are going to be available.
- 1:01:07They usually aren't in free agency, so good luck on that.
- 1:01:11And who you going to draft? The Raiders don't have a lot of
- 1:01:13draft stock. They really don't, no, they just
- 1:01:15have their normal. Amount, They just have their
- 1:01:16normal amount. It's not like they have the the
- 1:01:18Cowboys or The Jets. The Jets are overloaded with
- 1:01:20draft stock overloaded. So The Jets can sit pretty at 3
- 1:01:25and say, you know what, we'll draft more.
- 1:01:26We'll have them sit. For a year, they're not doing
- 1:01:28that. I know they're not doing up to
- 1:01:29one for Mendoza. We'll see the draft stock to do
- 1:01:32it. I mean, I'm sure we'll talk
- 1:01:34about it as you're closer to the.
- 1:01:35Track I want to say one thing about college football and what
- 1:01:39we've watched so far in college football and what I think the
- 1:01:42and job I asked, what do you think that the NCAA needs to
- 1:01:45change to make it better? I, I think that obviously the
- 1:01:50way they're creating and recreating it.
- 1:01:52I, I, I like the 12 team thing. I I would bring in more teams.
- 1:01:57I would cut the season down. That's what I would do.
- 1:02:01I wouldn't play as many games in a regular season and I would
- 1:02:04make a tournament, I would say about like March Madness.
- 1:02:07I'm not as many teams with March Madness.
- 1:02:09Obviously I would. So what's?
- 1:02:11So what's your number? What speedy?
- 1:02:14What would be a good #24? So you won 24, so that would be
- 1:02:186 different brackets. Six different brackets and you
- 1:02:22fight for a national championship.
- 1:02:24Or three brackets and eights. Yeah, so how many games you
- 1:02:26would have to play? Because you have to that would
- 1:02:28be 3 or 4 extra games, right? Yeah, cuz then you're how many
- 1:02:31games do they play in the? Season so you.
- 1:02:33It'd be a lot easier if you did 32 and 16 whatever and did it
- 1:02:37like that. Whatever, whatever, however way
- 1:02:39they want to do it, the fact is, is I think they.
- 1:02:42Should make a bracket. Would you have?
- 1:02:43Every every conference champion, no matter what it is.
- 1:02:47They automatically make it, they automatically win and they get
- 1:02:51the number one season. So if you had like a top 24,
- 1:02:55yeah, the top eight would get it would be like the division
- 1:02:57champions and the top teams. Besides that, they get a buy and
- 1:03:01then all the other teams they're playing in this like
- 1:03:04quarterfinal, yes. Then they they move on to face
- 1:03:07the top 8 and then it goes like that and it's just like.
- 1:03:10Something like that exactly. Adding an extra week yeah to
- 1:03:13what they already. Have.
- 1:03:14I think it makes more sense, It'll be more fun and it gives
- 1:03:17these undercard or these these other teams that you wouldn't
- 1:03:21expect to to be fighting for a national championship to maybe
- 1:03:24get, you know, shock the world and get into the semis or the
- 1:03:27quarters and make a run for that that the trophy.
- 1:03:30The group 51, but where it goes back to kind of what we talked
- 1:03:33about earlier, right? It's like some of those buys do
- 1:03:36help. Like Fish said, it's like, yeah,
- 1:03:38I I do like those so I can get a guy healthy.
- 1:03:41Where now it it creates that that momentum factor kind of
- 1:03:45what we talked about that the Fish is 100% right to hit the
- 1:03:48nail on the head when he's just like they say you can't do it.
- 1:03:52Well, you can't do it because you can't quantify that you
- 1:03:55there's no way to measure what that is.
- 1:03:59It's like there's a lot of dudes in sports that you look at him
- 1:04:03and you're like, that's not it. But yet he goes out and shows up
- 1:04:06every day because you can't quantify what's right here.
- 1:04:09You can't quantify what's right here.
- 1:04:11You just can't do that. So I think I, I love that
- 1:04:15dynamic because now it's like, OK, here we go, here we go, here
- 1:04:19we go. And there's certain things about
- 1:04:21it where, like you said, you you might get a Cinderella like we
- 1:04:25do in March Madness every once in a while, where right now it's
- 1:04:30we kind of know like there's maybe one or two teams that get
- 1:04:34in. Where should other teams have
- 1:04:36got in? Yeah, probably.
- 1:04:39But then that's where this conversation comes to the head.
- 1:04:43It's like, what is that right number?
- 1:04:45Jabo also about recruiting players, if you make a run to a
- 1:04:49national championship and you're not a known commodity and you're
- 1:04:53you have a great coach and that coach gets a chance to prove
- 1:04:56himself as a coach, maybe he gets one of these high profile
- 1:04:59jobs or it just opens up an opportunity.
- 1:05:02NIL Speedy, I told you to reach out to that organization.
- 1:05:06We're going to we're going to work on going to this NIL thing
- 1:05:09at Indianapolis. I forget where it is, but
- 1:05:12they're where they're getting all the players, the top 250
- 1:05:15high school players to go over there and talk about how the,
- 1:05:18how the NIL money goes and how the portal works.
- 1:05:21And I, I still am trying to learn the portal.
- 1:05:24So when you look at a tournament like this, it opens up a lot of
- 1:05:28different views on how the NIL can bring in players from
- 1:05:32different parts of the world or the country and bring in more
- 1:05:36money and, and more opportunity for these schools to get to get
- 1:05:40to the top or get an, an opportunity to make a run for a
- 1:05:43national championship. What do you want to expect?
- 1:05:45I think it makes a lot of sense. I think it, it, it's, it'll be
- 1:05:47fun. It'll be interesting.
- 1:05:49So we'll see. I think college football and the
- 1:05:53way they're bringing in money and I, I don't like these ball
- 1:05:55games. It's just so stupid.
- 1:05:57I the, what do they call them? The atom bomb ball.
- 1:06:00They have all different names. The Taco ball.
- 1:06:02I mean, come on, some of. Some of the bowl names now are
- 1:06:05just getting out of hand. The Pop Tarts and then they're
- 1:06:09like toasting the. Pop Tart Bowl.
- 1:06:13I won't. I don't care.
- 1:06:14The Snoop Dogg Arizona bull, when he was literally doing a
- 1:06:17live interview and he caught the kick that I mean, that's going
- 1:06:22to go down in history. All right, ladies and gentlemen,
- 1:06:28our golf clap of the day. This deserves a golf clap.
- 1:06:32No doubt. Golf clap.
- 1:06:34Golf clap. Well, ladies and gentlemen, my
- 1:06:38Golf Club of the day. Well, hopefully they're not
- 1:06:40pushing money onto the table. I don't know what they're doing,
- 1:06:43but guess what? It might be open for
- 1:06:45conversation. Kawhi Leonard, ladies and
- 1:06:48gentlemen, had his career high. It wasn't with the Spurs, it
- 1:06:52wasn't with Toronto when he won a championship.
- 1:06:54No, it's with those lonely Clippers.
- 1:06:57Ladies and gentlemen, 55 points as the Clippers right now on a
- 1:07:02four-game winning streak. And what does that smell?
- 1:07:04I don't know what it smells, but I tell you what, Kawhi Leonard
- 1:07:08is showing you why, when healthy, this guy's has been one
- 1:07:11of the best players in all of basketball.
- 1:07:13This guy has been the cornerstone of winning a
- 1:07:17championship when he was in Toronto.
- 1:07:19And this is a guy that I don't know if could be a cornerstone
- 1:07:21with the Clippers anymore because of his injuries and his
- 1:07:24knee problems, but absolutely still has it.
- 1:07:27And maybe at the trade deadline, if the Clippers do not believe
- 1:07:30they can make a run this year and they know they can't get rid
- 1:07:33of James Harden because the beard man can't, can't do it
- 1:07:37anything right? He makes more steps than
- 1:07:38baskets. Ladies and gentlemen, I would
- 1:07:41absolutely look at Kawhi Leonard is a hot ticket for another
- 1:07:46team. And I'm going to tell you this,
- 1:07:48the Knicks have been talking about it for years.
- 1:07:50They got a player, an OG and an Obi, but OG who's never won,
- 1:07:56Kawhi Leonard who has. If you want to win a
- 1:07:59championship, you go all in. Kawhi Leonard might be another
- 1:08:04picture of perfect time for the New York Knicks.
- 1:08:07So my golf clap goes to Kawhi Leonard.
- 1:08:10Hopefully there's no money being drawn onto the table, but he had
- 1:08:14an unbelievable game. So my golf clap goes to the
- 1:08:17Kawhi man himself. And maybe a trade ship at the
- 1:08:22trade deadline for an NBA team. Think about it.
- 1:08:26It's been a great year. It's been a full year with Jabba
- 1:08:29Chamberlain. It's been a full year with Fish.
- 1:08:32It's been a full year with all of you guys.
- 1:08:34It's been a great one. The factor where we are and
- 1:08:38where we're going to be next year could be special.
- 1:08:41I, I couldn't have done it without any of you guys.
- 1:08:45I again, specifically the work that gets put on on put in on
- 1:08:51the back end is, is amazing and I appreciate everybody's hard
- 1:08:55work and dedication. I, I have a lot of love for
- 1:08:58everybody, all the fans out there listening to us and TuneIn
- 1:09:01and download and look out for the craziness that could come
- 1:09:05about this show. We appreciate you guys and I, I
- 1:09:09guess I'm going to speak for, I guess unless Jabba wants to
- 1:09:12speak to for, for the fans. I, I appreciate everybody that
- 1:09:18puts the work into this show. So.
- 1:09:20Yeah, I mean, I don't, I don't know if words can express you
- 1:09:24guys have literally, I thought I was a sports fan.
- 1:09:28I wasn't. And you guys have opened my eyes
- 1:09:31to so many things and where I pay attention to so many things
- 1:09:35different because I don't want to sound like a Jackass.
- 1:09:38And you guys have just like opened me up where I look at
- 1:09:42sports so differently and it's made me look at life
- 1:09:46differently. And, you know, just embodying
- 1:09:50what sports can do for all of us and not only opening us up to to
- 1:09:58different perspectives and different thoughts and views,
- 1:10:01but opening us up as people. And you think that's the
- 1:10:04greatest thing about sports. And I think that's the greatest
- 1:10:06thing about this show because you don't ever know what you're
- 1:10:08going to get. And it's been awesome.
- 1:10:11It's been frustrating at times. It definitely has.
- 1:10:14I love you guys, but it has been and you know, we crawl before we
- 1:10:20walk and it's just been it. It's going to be a fun journey.
- 1:10:24And I know it's frustrating sometimes for for all of us in
- 1:10:28in different ways, but I'm so grateful to have these moments
- 1:10:35and, and where I can, I can share my thoughts and I can be
- 1:10:39me. And then, and you guys don't
- 1:10:41judge me and our fans don't because I love them because
- 1:10:46they're the reason why we do this.
- 1:10:48We love sports, but we love giving a different perspective
- 1:10:52and maybe a different thought or a different view.
- 1:10:54So man, I hope it's been a fun year.
- 1:10:59I think we've learned a lot from each other and I, I truly,
- 1:11:02genuinely appreciate that. And it's been a tough year for
- 1:11:05everybody. Like, I mean, that's, that's
- 1:11:07life though. But what we look forward to is,
- 1:11:10is the things that lie ahead and just very fortunate to be in
- 1:11:16this opportunity and and do these things with you guys.
- 1:11:19So I appreciate first and foremost, because I know time is
- 1:11:23precious and I appreciate your guys's time.
- 1:11:26And more importantly, I appreciate you use the effort
- 1:11:29and the fact that you care about what we're doing and just thank
- 1:11:34you guys so much. I mean, there's, there's not
- 1:11:36much more I can say. I want to before I let everybody
- 1:11:39go and I want to thank everybody on Apple and Spotify that TuneIn
- 1:11:44and download and write all these crazy things on all the Reddit
- 1:11:51fans that say the the most derogatory funny things I've
- 1:11:56ever seen in my entire life. And on Instagram and TikTok and
- 1:12:01Facebook and all the fans, Jabba the mouth fans in worldwide
- 1:12:05sports radio network fans out there and all the guys that do
- 1:12:08their shows, you know, from, you know, Josh Silverberg and his
- 1:12:12father and Eric and and then snowman.
- 1:12:15Thank you to them for really putting out a good product.
- 1:12:19And and like I said, next year is a week away or less than a
- 1:12:24week away, actually a couple days away.
- 1:12:27And I'm going to say one thing to all the fans and all the
- 1:12:30people out there and all the podcasts out there, watch out.
- 1:12:35That's all I'm going to say. You can take it whatever way you
- 1:12:38want. Watch the F out.
- 1:12:41That's it. Anyway, I'm.
- 1:12:43Just going to give you 2 lines, Errol, that no one has got a
- 1:12:46more original show than what we do here.
- 1:12:49Everyone's got sports takes, but no one has the creativity.
- 1:12:52People are stealing segments from us that we see on the big
- 1:12:55shows. 100% that I know that I came up with with you on the
- 1:12:59phone, Errol. You know, so I'm real proud of
- 1:13:03kind of being a trendsetter as well in an industry that seems
- 1:13:07to be a lot of the same. Lost, Absolutely lost.
- 1:13:11You're absolutely right. Fish lost.
- 1:13:13And that's what you're seeing right now with a WFAN.
- 1:13:17And they're firing people and many people go and Trinity
- 1:13:20Sports is gone and everything is flopping around and they're
- 1:13:24trying to figure out what to do next.
- 1:13:26Here's what you do. Watch out and look at the the
- 1:13:29talent that's out there and realize that there is talent
- 1:13:32right in front of your faces. Open up your checkbooks and get
- 1:13:36ready because you're going to be paying.
- 1:13:38That's all I'm going to say. You're going to be paying
- 1:13:40because you had, you had this sitting for such a long time and
- 1:13:46you're going to be paying. That's all I'm going to say.
- 1:13:48That's it. I, I had to add that because I'm
- 1:13:51just disgusted with the garbage that I've seen on television and
- 1:13:54radio over the last couple of years and it makes me sick to my
- 1:13:57stomach. Anyways, I'm going to let you
- 1:14:00guys say your final goodbyes for the new year.
- 1:14:03Tommy, you first. Yeah, you guys pretty much said
- 1:14:06a lot of it. You know, we've been putting a
- 1:14:08lot of work and especially thanks to you guys, you know, I
- 1:14:11don't think any of us can do ones job without the other.
- 1:14:14So I really do appreciate, you know, all the hard work that you
- 1:14:16guys put into the show. You know, I really appreciate

- 1:14:35manager, the man himself. But you, it's been a whole hell
- 1:14:41of a 365 days and looking forward to another 365 with
- 1:14:45y'all. Yeah, it's I've definitely been
- 1:14:48appreciative of all you guys are bringing me in eight years ago
- 1:14:51and seeing all different people come and go with this network
- 1:14:53too, but always supporting me and always helping me out with
- 1:14:57everything on the on the show and throughout the network as
- 1:14:59well. And all the guys that have been
- 1:15:01coming and going on this show as well.
- 1:15:03Fish, you brought a new, new vibe since you joined the show
- 1:15:06back in January of 2024 and you've done a lot of great
- 1:15:09things. Tommy, you've been always a the
- 1:15:12social media guy, fun guy to talk with offset a lot of the
- 1:15:15time, even before Jabba you came along and Jabba reaching out to
- 1:15:17you for the first time as a guest.
- 1:15:18I reached out to a lot of different Yankees and first time
- 1:15:21we ever had you in the show, you were a tremendous storyteller
- 1:15:23and and reached out at the time with the Yankees playoffs.
- 1:15:27And obviously we built something very nice and Nathan as well,
- 1:15:29and Nick Goody Nathan. Nick Goody.
- 1:15:32That. Shout out to Goody.
- 1:15:34Yeah, Goody, Goody. The first time we had him on the
- 1:15:36show, it was funny. It was actually the first week
- 1:15:38we had Sylvester Williams on the show last year, too.
- 1:15:40It was also the same week we had Goody on the same day and and
- 1:15:43Goody Goody. I remember Goody because he came
- 1:15:45in 10 minutes early. I never saw a guest come in that
- 1:15:47early ever. And he was so fired up.
- 1:15:49He was so funny and always brought that good vibes.
- 1:15:51And of course, Nathan is our PR guy doing some great things.
- 1:15:54All this event planning, all that stuff, fantastic.
- 1:15:56And shout out to all the fans, all the ones I've met in person,
- 1:15:58all the ones I have it in person for supporting what we do.
- 1:16:00Here, I don't want to say something else before I go to
- 1:16:03Jabba Chamberlain. I didn't think this was going to
- 1:16:05work. I didn't all right, I did.
- 1:16:08I'm going to be honest with you, I didn't think it was going to
- 1:16:10work, but it's been a fun ride and it's going to be a fun ride
- 1:16:15in 2026 because I I feel like we've built a good, good vibe
- 1:16:20and a good relationship. We have our differences at
- 1:16:23everything that we do, but that's what partners usually do.
- 1:16:26But I, I've grown to understand who you are as a person, not
- 1:16:31just as an athlete that I followed as a kid and or like to
- 1:16:35watch you throw a ball. I, I, I like throwing pitches at
- 1:16:38you and I'm sure you like to throw jabs at me, but I, I feel
- 1:16:42like we've built something and we're, we're building something
- 1:16:46that could be something really, really special.
- 1:16:48And I think fans, and I say this with with love and compassion,
- 1:16:54if if it wasn't for the people that understand what we're
- 1:16:57trying to do here, we wouldn't be here.
- 1:16:59So thank you to all of you guys. Anyways, that's it, Good night.
