- 2:50Good morning. Good morning.
- 2:52Happy Sunday morning. These are your hosts, Boss Dog.
- 2:57Big Dog, the Vanilla Gorilla and our host Mr. OG himself.
- 3:03What's up fellas? How y'all doing this morning?
- 3:06Welcome to Turnbuckles and Stogies.
- 3:08It's a little, it's a little early for me.
- 3:10I had a long night last night. What's up?
- 3:15I had a very long night last night.
- 3:17Yes, we had a long. Night watched.
- 3:19Watched the rumble from start to finish.
- 3:21Oh bro. Or match card.
- 3:24It took. They started at 8:00.
- 3:29It didn't end till midnight, I think midnight or 12:15,
- 3:33whatever it was. So you figure they ran five
- 3:38hours for four matches. That was that was a very card
- 3:46with that. Those rumble matches were
- 3:47awesome. I I don't care what anybody
- 3:50says. I think this was probably the
- 3:53first year in a while where that they didn't have to overload the
- 4:00card with or the rumble matches, They didn't have to overload
- 4:03them with legends and and stuff like that OG.
- 4:12It's not on. There.
- 4:13It's there. Morning, Coop.
- 4:16So, so first of all, OG, how do you feel?
- 4:19I know you've been sick. Hey, I'm feeling a lot better
- 4:23guys. Can you guys hear me OK?
- 4:25Yeah. I feel like I'm echoing on my
- 4:28end. Not on our end, at least.
- 4:31Not over here, so let's talk about the Royal Rumble though, I
- 4:37got to say. I mean, let's just start off
- 4:39with the. Women.
- 4:41'S the fact that Naomi returned at #2.
- 4:44And. Jordan Gray showed up, I think
- 4:46at #5 as the TNA knockouts, champions.
- 4:50Liv came back at #30. Jade came in.
- 4:56Oh no, Jade was #30 Liv was. Number no Liv was 30, Jade was
- 5:0028 or 27. Yeah, I mean.
- 5:07That match alone was I I have to say for the first time in a
- 5:11while. And now that Jack showed.
- 5:13Up I think. I think that we're in a as I'm
- 5:20not going to say where, but them as a company in both the men's
- 5:25and women's Division, I think they're loaded pretty strong now
- 5:29for the first time in a long time.
- 5:31And now being that TNA is streaming on Endeavour.
- 5:34Well I I think this is going to be a long term relationship
- 5:37because. Because Jordan Grace showed up
- 5:39with the belt and they were like the TNA.
- 5:41But remember, Mickie James did that.
- 5:43I think it was 20/22. She did that, but that was just
- 5:48because it was Mickey and they wanted to bring in a legend.
- 5:52This has to do with not only not only are they're streaming with
- 5:59Endeavour, but at their Bound For Glory pay-per-view.
- 6:04Bailey and Monet were in the stands watching Naomi and Triple
- 6:10H was actually backstage talking to Scott, Damore and whoever
- 6:17else owns it. Now I don't know if it's still
- 6:19Anthem or I forget who it is, but I I think it's going to be
- 6:22very interesting to see where this goes.
- 6:25Cody gets to finish his story. Yeah, Cody at WrestleMania.
- 6:29Cody is the 4th guy in history to go back-to-back years and win
- 6:32in the Rumble. And and Seth Rollins.
- 6:35It was funny because he had walked away, but they showed
- 6:38Seth Rollins that when CM Punk came out, Seth Rollins had his
- 6:43cup like this and he was like he was just picking his nails.
- 6:49He was. Like, but there you're going to
- 6:51get Rollins and Punk at Mania anyway.
- 6:53I mean that's already, that's already been established.
- 6:55That's not even a he didn't have to win the Rumble to establish
- 6:59that Punk. I will say Punk looked really,
- 7:02really good last night. He didn't look.
- 7:06I mean, let's just be honest. He didn't look old.
- 7:08He didn't, he didn't look he didn't look run down like he did
- 7:12in AW, he actually has some mass to him.
- 7:14He didn't look as skinny as he did when he showed up for AEW
- 7:19and I I was actually OK with his performance.
- 7:23I'm not really a big Sam Punk fan, as everybody knows.
- 7:26I know him when, I know him when when he was just starting out
- 7:32with the blonde hair and the Pepsi tattoo and you know,
- 7:36things like that. So, you know, but yeah, it was a
- 7:40great Royal Rumble, man. I mean, barely won.
- 7:43She's going for the title. Who she's going to pick.
- 7:45I'm going to think she's going to go after her partner, one of
- 7:48her. Oh, she no, she is already she's
- 7:52she's going against EO. So you know, and it will.
- 7:58It was it was an awesome Royal Rumble.
- 8:01So now let's turn to another thing.
- 8:05Let's turn to the playoffs. Well.
- 8:08Well, what are you smoking first?
- 8:09I'm smoking the middleman. And where's that from?
- 8:12That's from fanatics. And fanatics is what?
- 8:14One of our sponsors. And I am smoking the BAMF barbed
- 8:21wire from BAMF Cigars, ROCF cigars.
- 8:24If you order from either one of them, tell them turnbuckers and
- 8:27stuff we sent you, You get 10% off your shipping, so.
- 8:33Yes, it was. It was, you know.
- 8:39All I got to say, man, is today the starts, the playoffs for
- 8:46football. The road to WrestleMania started
- 8:48last night. The.
- 8:48Road to WrestleMania started last night so it's a great
- 8:51weekend. Today starts the playoffs so I'm
- 8:54going to here's here's my pick for the Super Bowl O GS.
- 9:00Not going to like it. It's going to be Baltimore
- 9:04Ravens and Detroit Lions. It's going to be the Ravens and
- 9:08the Niners. Watch.
- 9:09I'm telling you, I'm. I'm a big different with you,
- 9:12son. OK, I'm just telling you
- 9:14because. Boss nailed it with the Giants
- 9:18being in the Super Bowl this year and he's 1000% nailing his
- 9:23incorrect picks. I'm going to go with Joey.
- 9:26If you look, if you look at the colors, let's just be honest, if
- 9:30you look at the colors, it's purple and red.
- 9:33It's Niners and Ravens. Well, it's not going to be
- 9:36Detroit. OK, so are you saying that
- 9:39because everybody's saying that NFL is scripted?
- 9:42I'm not saying it's. Scripted.
- 9:43Do you think it's scripted because somebody said.
- 9:46No, I'm not saying it's scripted.
- 9:47I think you put it up. I'm not saying it's scripted,
- 9:50but I think. You put it up the other day.
- 9:52They had the 49ers up on one side, and it was a it was two
- 9:57other teams playing. No.
- 9:58Well, no. They actually, if you look at
- 10:00what they had, they had the 49ers at the I believe it was at
- 10:04the Ravens or the Chiefs with a point with the Super Bowl
- 10:10halftime show acts. I think it was the 49ers and the
- 10:14Ravens. So I mean, I wouldn't be
- 10:17surprised. It's about time they run that
- 10:18back anyway. Some some news station in
- 10:23Ontario ran it. Yeah.
- 10:26That that Reba McEntire was going to join.
- 10:30I forgot who the the pop artist was as the halftime show 49ers
- 10:35Ravens, Super Bowl. Yes.
- 10:39So do you think that NFL is scripted?
- 10:41No, I think that I don't think it's scripted, but I think I
- 10:49think you know like Tinfoil had on, I think the officials do get
- 10:55some nudging from the NFL on calls that will affect the game.
- 11:03But I don't think it's, it's scripted.
- 11:05I don't think they're the, you know, the team A will be Team B
- 11:1024 to 14, no, I don't think. That's going to happen, but I.
- 11:14Think I think officials get nudged to make some questionable
- 11:18calls and that's why none of them get disciplined when you
- 11:23get those egregiously bad calls that everybody can see on both
- 11:27sides of the field and. Well, that's not really the fan
- 11:30watching. That's a really big word you
- 11:33just used. I didn't know you knew those.
- 11:34Did you look that open at the source?
- 11:36I didn't know you knew what the word egregious.
- 11:38Was. I'm slightly educated.
- 11:42Listen, we haven't seen you in. How long it it hasn't?
- 11:46Well, it also have to remember being filming the going live
- 11:52this early. It's killing us is not adequate
- 11:57for some of these lounges and it's understandable.
- 12:01I get that. I'm not even mad at that.
- 12:04I'm not mad at that at all. I understand that it's we're
- 12:10working on going to lounges. We actually, February 11th will
- 12:15be filming at Iron Horse at 7:00 AM, at 7:00 AM in Hudson.
- 12:20So that's. Yeah.
- 12:22Brother Iron Horse is done Iron Horse February 11th, so two
- 12:25weeks. One of my followers on
- 12:28Instagram. So 2 two weeks we'll be filming
- 12:32An Iron Horse. I've already spoke to the
- 12:33manager. They're taking care of
- 12:35everything for us. Thank you, Jim.
- 12:38Thank you to the honor. We appreciate you letting us in.
- 12:41And I want to say thanks to Taste of Cuber, one of my
- 12:44friends on Instagram who hit him up.
- 12:46He wants to hang out with us and wants to meet us.
- 12:49I told him come up by 7:00. We'll even bring you on his show
- 12:51because he's the one that got us in there.
- 12:53So, you know, so yeah, on that note, I think we should take
- 12:59our, our. We're going to take a quick
- 13:02commercial break and we'll be right back.
- 17:02What's up everybody? We're back.
- 17:06Turnbuckles and. Stuff, we are back.
- 17:08It's a little early. Again, we thank everybody for
- 17:13jumping on with us this early because God knows it's ass crack
- 17:18of dawn to the fact that it was a long night for us last night.
- 17:25If you watch the pay-per-view, you know it was a long night
- 17:28last night. Black River Tobacco.
- 17:33Good morning. Good morning, brother.
- 17:35Good morning. Good morning.
- 17:36Good morning. So there was there was a lot to
- 17:41cover last night I mean there's there's more to it was more to
- 17:46cover I mean there's so much to that comes out of this but the
- 17:49road to WrestleMania started Cody called this shot he's
- 17:53getting Roman at Mania. I think Cody finishes the story.
- 17:57And starts a new chapter. And writes and I think he
- 17:59finishes that story and he starts writing a new chapters
- 18:02champ. And I think it's time for
- 18:04Roman's reign to kind of be done.
- 18:08And Roman's got to ride off into the sunset now.
- 18:11There's nothing left for Roman. Do you?
- 18:13Think it's going to be Cody and Punk to have a little bit of a
- 18:16storyline, not about the title. How long you?
- 18:18Played the great coming out of the coming out of media and
- 18:23coming out of the Royal Rumble. Good morning.
- 18:28Watching on Roku. Love having starting off.
- 18:30Say big wrestling news. Yes, yes.
- 18:32Linda, thank you for having us again.
- 18:34That is one of the producers of our.
- 18:37Show yes, with Roku we we thank you guys for having us.
- 18:40Hopefully you guys are enjoying our content that we're putting
- 18:44out here for you guys. You know, there's a there's a
- 18:47lot of big wrestling news coming out of this, this one
- 18:52pay-per-view alone. Was.
- 18:54Extra has sparked a ton. I mean look at look at the Kevin
- 19:01Owens and and Logan Paul match. I got a question though.
- 19:05Go ahead. I got a question.
- 19:06I got a question for you. OK.
- 19:08What's? Up with the with the four way
- 19:14elimination match with Roman Reigns for the title, it seems
- 19:18short to me. Seems very short and a sudden
- 19:21stop. Yeah I I don't think I don't
- 19:26think. I think.
- 19:29I I think what happened is either well the women's match
- 19:32didn't go too long right. You have to.
- 19:36I I think where they they did that four way was when Solo
- 19:39interfered the ref was the ref also hurt himself too.
- 19:45The ref also hurt himself because I've seen him in the
- 19:47corner grabbing his leg and and if you looked at him he was
- 19:51wincing like he couldn't he couldn't.
- 19:53I thought it. Was part of the.
- 19:54I thought it was part of the, you know, the.
- 19:56I did too, but I don't know. I mean and that match alone
- 20:01though. With those four guys, you don't
- 20:04really have to have a long match because they're telling a story.
- 20:08With just the way it was odd, just the way it just ended, I
- 20:11thought it ended all oh. Absolutely.
- 20:14Like, you know, everybody was, you know only a couple people
- 20:17kicked out of Finisher and and then you know, for him not to be
- 20:23able to kick out of a spear from Roman Reigns, I thought was a
- 20:26little. Well, that's what I thought too.
- 20:29I thought. I thought like but if you.
- 20:31Look at if you look at the way AJ lost, I know he didn't kick
- 20:35out of the spear. But the other thing with that is
- 20:41you have to look AJ out of all of them.
- 20:43AJ kind of took the most abuse out of everybody.
- 20:50You know, AJ took the AJ took the brunt of everything from
- 20:55everybody. Yes.
- 20:57Well here's here's here's what I thought it.
- 20:59It looks like to me they didn't have a good finish planned I.
- 21:03Don't think. And then somebody gave them the
- 21:06okey dokey to end it in the. Somebody I I think they got, I
- 21:09think they were given the go home.
- 21:12I think Triple H and Shawn Michaels told them.
- 21:14To take home, I think, Well, no. Shawn's in NXT.
- 21:17It's Triple H and Road Dogg. Yeah, I think they told them to
- 21:20take it home. But I think what happened was
- 21:22either the women's match went too long or they were going that
- 21:27way. Well, yeah, I mean, he's not.
- 21:29He's not wrong. Yes, you'll have.
- 21:31You're not wrong. You're going to have Knight
- 21:33versus Styles and Orton versus solo, I mean.
- 21:35You're right. Rich No, absolutely.
- 21:37Because if you think about it, when Randy, when Randy got taken
- 21:41out, AJ stepped up, AJ got taken out, LA Knight stepped up.
- 21:48But AJ is AAJ is back into that heel.
- 21:54Lone Wolf AJ Styles gimmick from on his way out of the door when
- 21:59he basically said screw the company through you guys, you
- 22:03don't want to pay me. I'm just going to walk off by
- 22:05myself correct. This is, this is kind of a newer
- 22:10you know, club lone wolf kind of adapted style.
- 22:17I, which I personally always liked that gimmick as much as I
- 22:20liked. No, the only thing I find, I
- 22:24mean I get it like even when AJ was, you know, before he got
- 22:28hurt, the only thing I said that was different between his WWE
- 22:33run, his New Japan run and his TNA one was his.
- 22:41His gear isn't as colorful as it used to be.
- 22:43Right. It used to be very colorful.
- 22:45Like he used to have, Like if he had, he.
- 22:47Would have represent, yeah. Does that represent the new AJ
- 22:51though? Well, the new, the new AJ is the
- 22:55the WWE. Well, the New Japan and WWE AJ
- 22:59are kind of the new age AJ. But even when he was in TNA and
- 23:03he was running the before he turned lone wolf, he was still,
- 23:09he still had that colorful bright colored gear.
- 23:12He'd have orange, yellow, gold. I mean now does he go back to
- 23:16that? We don't know, obviously, you
- 23:18know who knows who goes where. But I mean, I thought that match
- 23:24was great. I thought the US title match was
- 23:26great. I mean that whole card from top
- 23:30to bottom really for four matches including the Rumbles,
- 23:34was phenomenal. I mean in the Rumble match you
- 23:38had Ivy, Nile and Jordan, Grace, Jordan, Grace and Bianca, Jade
- 23:44and Bianca. I mean the the amount of of
- 23:48things that you could have coming out of that rumble is
- 23:53insane. You're right, Rich, you could be
- 23:54bringing back the Bullet Club return, but let's go back to
- 23:57what Joey said about Ivy Niles and Jordan Grace.
- 24:01I mean those. Are two of the most powerful
- 24:04women right now in WWE? Well, no.
- 24:07Remember, Jordan's technically not part of WWE.
- 24:10I can see if they're going to do a, a, a merger or whatever.
- 24:14If they're going to do it, it's going to be you're going to get
- 24:16Jordan and Bianca, you're going to get Jordan and Jade, you're
- 24:19going to get Jordan and Ivy, you're going to get all those.
- 24:22Matches right now I think what it's going to be, if you ask me
- 24:26and I think if they're going to stop promoting it, it's.
- 24:28Going to be Bianca versus Jade at Mania.
- 24:30Bianca versus Jade at Mania because when she threw out when
- 24:35when Jade threw out NIA Jax, she stood there and said, I'm not
- 24:42bitch, I'm not bitch. Well, let's let's just talk.
- 24:45First off, let's just talk about the best return at #30.
- 24:50She's been gone for like a year. Let's talk about Liv Morgan.
- 24:54Liv came back at #30. At first, was IA little?
- 24:59Was IA little kind of like? Just the point that she got
- 25:02thrown out. We all thought, honestly,
- 25:04everybody thought it was going to be Monet.
- 25:07Everybody thought it was going to be Sasha Banks, including me.
- 25:10I did. I mean, I'm not mad that it was
- 25:13Liv because Liv back to AW. Liv technically never really
- 25:17lost the title. She lost to Rhea, but that's
- 25:20because she got injured. So if you think about it, she
- 25:23never actually physically lost lost the title, if that makes
- 25:26any sort of sense. She never got the rematch she
- 25:29deserved. But now, if you remember, her
- 25:33gear was also a tribute to to Ashley Mazzaro.
- 25:39That passed away ten years ago. No, not ten.
- 25:42No, It hasn't even been 10 years.
- 25:45He. Was that was her.
- 25:46She did a tribute gear to her, which was pretty cool, so I
- 25:51thought that was great. I'm glad she's back.
- 25:53It's going to be interesting to see where they go.
- 25:55Andrade's back. I mean, you know what?
- 26:01I there's I think in the Rumble match.
- 26:03I would have liked to see if, since they were doing that TNA
- 26:06crossover, I think Moose would have been a good addition to
- 26:09that rumble. Yeah.
- 26:11I mean I think that would have been, that would have been
- 26:14something to see. Yeah, I don't think Bliss is
- 26:16coming back anytime soon, Rich. She just had a baby, so I don't
- 26:20think she'll be back anytime soon.
- 26:22Pat McAfee was there last night. Oh yeah.
- 26:23Pat McAfee, I thought. That was at the beginning.
- 26:27I thought that was hysterical. And then did you see him go in
- 26:31the Rumble match? Yeah, I thought that That's what
- 26:33I'm talking about. I thought that was hysterical.
- 26:35So did you hear what the stats on Breaker 23 miles an hour when
- 26:43he hits that rope, 23 miles an hour when he hits those ropes?
- 26:48That is absolutely unheard of. That guy's a beast.
- 26:53Like the fact that. He 23 miles an hour.
- 26:57That is insane. Dude, that's like driving a car
- 27:0120. 5 miles an hour? No, it's true though, but I I
- 27:06think when they when they bring him up, if he's not already
- 27:13going to get called up. Never know, he might be on
- 27:16Monday. Night.
- 27:16I mean, no, tomorrow I even, I don't care.
- 27:20When he gets called up there, he's going to be a champion.
- 27:24There's not even a there's not an if and or but about it.
- 27:29That kid is main event. That kid is main event pitcher
- 27:31already. And in case you don't know,
- 27:35there's no denying what family he's a part of.
- 27:39Yeah, oh. Yeah, there's no there's no
- 27:42denying. Look at that color forms.
- 27:44Forget the colorful. And the different boots.
- 27:47That shit eating grin that he has, he needs.
- 27:49To come up because he can do a lot with him, you're right.
- 27:52Yes. No, you're 100% right.
- 27:54Correct, Rich. But he has and and you know this
- 27:57as well as I do. He's got that Scott Steiner shit
- 28:01eating grin when he smiles there's no deny and there's and
- 28:05he looks. He's built like Scott, looks
- 28:08like talks like Scott, but looks like Rick.
- 28:13Close your eyes and it it's Scott's there.
- 28:16It's it's it's a mixture of Scott and Rick.
- 28:18Wait. Here's what I'm He's not going
- 28:19to do the math promo because you can't do.
- 28:21That do the math. Promo, I can't do it off the top
- 28:23of my head. The math promo that it does.
- 28:25Well, he did. He no, he did something like
- 28:27that in NXT when he was in a parking lot, there was there was
- 28:31three. No, no.
- 28:32There was three guys and he had a title belt and apparently it
- 28:35was three on two somehow. I'm not really sure how that
- 28:37works, but obviously he's related to them because he can't
- 28:41do math either, but that's OK. He goes, you have 33 1/3% chance
- 28:45to. Win.
- 28:45Well, no, actually, he did. I lied.
- 28:46He did do Steiner. And he goes.
- 28:48If you have 33 1/3% chance, win and another 33 and a third.
- 28:51Win. Well, he did.
- 28:51He did, Steiner. 75% chance win if you have another. 30 No,
- 28:55that's not even. That's not it.
- 28:56It's that's that's not even close.
- 28:58She totally messed that up. So it doesn't don't do the promo
- 29:01anymore. Thank you.

- 31:45Yeah. Hey, it's it's raining here.
- 31:49It's been raining all night. It's a nice cool risk.
- 31:53Morning. So.
- 31:56Black River Tobacco, said Woohoo Super Mario.
- 31:59Hey, good morning. Good morning, Frank.
- 32:04I hope you're doing well, brother.
- 32:06And Black River Tobacco, man. You guys got to bring Frank on
- 32:10also. We actually had him.
- 32:11We had him last. Week.
- 32:13Oh, you had him last week, Yes. No.
- 32:15Was it last week or the week? Before I think.
- 32:17It was last week, so talk about a great human being a.
- 32:21Great, man. He's awesome.
- 32:23You know, absolutely. This guy, this guy has been
- 32:27through a lot of stuff, did a lot of good stuff for America.
- 32:32Doing his service with the ATF, you know, and he's humble.
- 32:38He's got a big heart, a lot of love in his heart.
- 32:45Great American man. We need more people like him
- 32:49around and he's got a beautiful family by the way.
- 32:52He's got a beautiful family and some wild ass.
- 32:56Nice dogs too. Got beautiful dogs?
- 33:04Are you going to be at the game today?
- 33:05He. Said go Chiefs will be will be
- 33:08the game today. Yeah, I'm sorry, brother.
- 33:10I'm going with the Ravens. Hey, you never know.
- 33:15You never know what the Chiefs can do, man.
- 33:17It's any given Sunday. They're not going to beat that
- 33:20defense. Well, you it's it's you're going
- 33:23to. Let's just wait and see.
- 33:24How about that, Jesus? So, Mario.
- 33:27Wait and see. God damn.
- 33:29You and I were talking yesterday, so you did an event.
- 33:33I think it was Saturday. Yeah, at No.
- 33:37Friday night we did an event at North Local Cigars.
- 33:42It's a veteran owned joint. You know, nice little cigar
- 33:46lounge. It's beautiful.
- 33:48It's got a first floor and then it's got a second floor with a
- 33:52private VIP area. Very nice human door.
- 33:59Bob is a great guy. His wife was also there works
- 34:02there and great crowd man, Navy crowd, right.
- 34:10Those Navy boys know how to how to smoke and they know how to
- 34:13party. You know what I mean?
- 34:15And great, great group of guys, let me tell you from the
- 34:20youngest guy who showed up to the oldest guy who was there and
- 34:24we had a little old Vietnam vet there, you know, and he was a
- 34:29tunnel rat in Vietnam. One of first and was talking
- 34:34about all his stories. That's a young 19/20/22 year
- 34:38old, you know, and the crap he went through, right.
- 34:42And you know it's interesting when you sit down and you listen
- 34:47to somebody, you look in the into their eyes and as they tell
- 34:52you their story, you don't interrupt.
- 34:55You just sit there and listen and you can see in their eyes
- 34:58how they appreciate you, right? Just for listening.
- 35:02You know what? I mean absolutely.
- 35:04So it was nice to talk to that guy, you know?
- 35:08Yeah, I. Have heard, I've heard great
- 35:11things about that place, not only from from you being a
- 35:14vendor there, but also, well, now Fort Elisa E Libre Greg,
- 35:20yeah. Greg.
- 35:20Was there, Greg was. There.
- 35:23Greg's another great guy, by the way.
- 35:24Oh, I love Greg. He'll be on actually in May.
- 35:27I already. I already booked him.
- 35:29Greg's got grey cigars and unfortunately he went through
- 35:33some bullshit with Arturo Fuentes.
- 35:35You know. You know, I don't understand
- 35:38where fuerte, which means strength in Spanish.
- 35:42Yes, I know. Yes, I know what you're saying.
- 35:45And Fuente, which means fountain in in, in Spanish.
- 35:48I don't know how those two are so close to each other, right?
- 35:52You know, And it's, it's kind of sad to me.
- 35:55It's petty, petty BS and kind of childish that a big multi
- 36:01corporation would do that to a small guy.
- 36:03You know, yeah, I mean. So let's let's talk about your
- 36:08cigars. So what?
- 36:10What made you get into the cigar world?
- 36:15What made you start smoking cigars?
- 36:17What made you start producing your own cigars?
- 36:20What made you want to put out your own label?
- 36:23What? Well, I grew up.
- 36:25I grew up in a cigar family in Cuba.
- 36:27You know, my grandfather, we grew tobacco.
- 36:30He sold tobacco. He made cigars.
- 36:34He sold them in his little bodegas all around the country.
- 36:38And you know, it was part of my DNA, sadly, when I first arrived
- 36:47in the United States, you know, immigrant butt naked, what do
- 36:50you do? You work hard, right?
- 36:52Right. You work hard.
- 36:53And I did, you know, I was a young guy.
- 36:57Every shitty job you could think of, I did.
- 37:01From washing dishes to the fields to all that.
- 37:03All that crap, right? But you don't have the money to
- 37:08initiate a cigar business. Cigars are expensive.
- 37:12It's not. It's not as easy as people
- 37:14think. And so I joined the army, man,
- 37:17and I did 22 years in the army and then I left the army.
- 37:22I still have two kids in college, and then I went to work
- 37:28for Dodi, did the special agent stuff, doing counterterrorism
- 37:32and all kinds of crazy stuff. And then I retired from that.
- 37:37And and right after I retired, I went to work as a security
- 37:41consultant in Nicaragua for this Japanese company.
- 37:44That's. Cool, that's that's awesome.
- 37:46So there there is a riots in Nicaragua in 2018.
- 37:49I don't know if you guys were, yes.
- 37:51Yes, I did hear some stuff about that.
- 37:54So my one of my old commanders calls me.
- 37:56He goes, hey, what are you doing?
- 37:56I go, nothing. I'm sitting here smoking a cigar
- 37:59and bringing some coffee. He goes, I need you in
- 38:01Nicaragua. Tomorrow I go, What's going on?
- 38:04He goes, turn on the news. I said, OK, who are who are we
- 38:09working for? So there's this big Canadian
- 38:12company called Garter World, the biggest security company in the
- 38:16world, and they have a subdivision.
- 38:18At the time it was called Neon Associates, which is now Crisis
- 38:2224. And they called me and said,
- 38:26hey, you're going to work with Joe.
- 38:28And I said, yeah, I said let's negotiate the contract while I'm
- 38:32flying down there, right? So we don't waste time.
- 38:34And so we got into into country, we set up at the
- 38:38Intercontinental Hotel and we started scoping the area doing
- 38:41assessment and you know this was going to take maybe a week or
- 38:46two and it ended up being three years.
- 38:52Yes. So throughout that time, I'm
- 38:54negotiating my salary in the first couple weeks and my salary
- 38:58was $828.00 a day, which is why you see the 828 on the cigar,
- 39:03right? Wow.
- 39:05OK, that's where that comes from.
- 39:07I I didn't know that. OK, that's pretty cool.
- 39:09That's pretty cool. So after being there a year and
- 39:14I've saved up all this money, you know, one night I'm, I'm
- 39:19sitting with one of my buds from 7th group there that's with me,
- 39:22Dave Rapaye. And I go, Dave, it's time for us
- 39:26to do what we always wanted to do.
- 39:28And he goes, oh man, that's just more work and stuff.
- 39:31I said I'm going to do it. I'm going to ask the Lee
- 39:33tomorrow and I'm going to go look for for a good cigar maker.
- 39:37Man, I knocked on every door. And that's the Lee.
- 39:40All those guys wanted to do is rip you off, you know, 50,000
- 39:46cigars, 100,000, you know? And I've heard that's because
- 39:51when we go there, we're we're the outsiders, so that's where
- 39:53they try to make their money. I don't know.
- 39:55But you know, it's just a way for them to make money.
- 39:57So, you know, time goes by and you know, I I run across Papito
- 40:05Gomez, who makes my cigars. And Papito is Papito is a hidden
- 40:11treasure in the cigar industry. He doesn't get a lot of
- 40:14latitudes. He doesn't get a lot of.
- 40:18Recognition. Because he's just that silent
- 40:21guy, right? He just grinds and grinds and
- 40:24grinds. And he was a guy who came from
- 40:27Cuba, failed in Nicaragua, had to go to Ecuador, failed in
- 40:32Ecuador, came back to Nicaragua. And one day this guy from Canada
- 40:38knocks on his door and says, can you make me 500 cigars?
- 40:40And he goes, absolutely. And he did.
- 40:44And then can you make me 1000? And he did.
- 40:46And then can you make me 5000, Well, that's the Havana Castle
- 40:53brand in Canada, one of the largest boutique brands in
- 40:56Canada. Havana Castle, yes.
- 40:58Excellent cigars. So Papito makes, you know,
- 41:0530-40. Fifty thousand cigars for these
- 41:07guys a month, you know, because they have 26, they have 26
- 41:11stores all over Canada. And I'm talking to Papito and I
- 41:15said, listen man, you know, we both, we both our families know
- 41:21each other from I need your help, I need, I need to work
- 41:24with some blends and I need to start with 10,000 cigars.
- 41:28Can you help me? He goes, yeah, let's sit down
- 41:31and talk. So we did and it took us a good
- 41:3618 months to perfect the blends. And then we came out with the
- 41:42828 Clotto, which is an Ambano Rosado.
- 41:46We came out with the 8 to 8 O scooter and then with the the
- 41:52silverback came on later on. Because I'm, I'm sitting there
- 41:56one night and I go, you know, I love San Andreas and I don't
- 41:58have a San Andreas cigar, but it's the it's the most expensive
- 42:02cigar, right? So I said, you know, I want to
- 42:08make this simple. Let's just, let's just try a San
- 42:11Andreas wrapper on one of these two blends and see which one
- 42:14comes up best, right. And at first I didn't like it.
- 42:18So we tweaked that a little bit and we came out with the limited
- 42:21edition Silverback, which is a great seller.
- 42:26And and I said let's come, let's since it's a limited edition,
- 42:30let me only make 500 bucks. And that's what we came out
- 42:34with. And so I'm making this cigars,
- 42:38you know, not thinking too far ahead because I wrote this out
- 42:43in a plan, right. You know, phase one, phase two,
- 42:46phase three. And then phase two was let me go
- 42:49find a distributor or find a cigar company that wants to join
- 42:55up. And I found this scar company
- 42:58used to be called Terrazona Cigars and team up team up with
- 43:03him. It was the biggest mistake I
- 43:06ever made, you know, because it all started great. 2019, we're
- 43:11at the PCA. We introduced the blends, people
- 43:15loved them. We made a lot of money that day
- 43:18that week with orders. And then things were going good,
- 43:24man. You know, we started to move
- 43:26cigars and yeah, first year was 30,000 cigars that we sold, you
- 43:33know, so that wasn't better, you know.
- 43:36Second year we went a little higher then I get, I came down
- 43:39with cancer, got sick and my partner went rogue on me.
- 43:43He broke the company, you know what I mean?
- 43:46So when I recover from cancer, I I basically open up my own
- 43:52operation. I'm doing all the decision
- 43:54making. I'm doing all the the work and
- 43:58this is Casa Caravallo today. So I'm building.
- 44:01I'm kind of like Greg, you know, He's building something from the
- 44:04ground up, you know, and slowly, methodically and trying to give
- 44:13the consumer an excellent product that's not too expensive
- 44:19without all the hype and the bullshit that you see in the
- 44:21cigar industry. You know, all I can tell you is
- 44:26the people who smoke my cigars, which I'm looking at them right
- 44:29now, They love my cigars. I I was just getting I'm just
- 44:33getting ready to say I've smoked the Claro and the Oscuro and and
- 44:36I'm sure by far those are you guys got to.
- 44:39Get your hands on the Apache. It is unbelievable.
- 44:44So that's another story there. The the Apache.
- 44:46That's another story. So let me ask you this question.
- 44:49Well, it's not really a question.
- 44:52So like you said, it took you 18 months to perfect the, the, the
- 44:57blends, see a lot of people that you know, we're coming out with
- 45:00our own stuff and they're like, oh, you guys been in the works
- 45:03for like 2-3 years. I'm like, bro, it doesn't take
- 45:06an listen. I'm not going to buy somebody
- 45:08else's cigars and put my labels on it.
- 45:10And you know as well as we do, you know, you have to find the
- 45:13right maker and manufacturer. For the cigar itself, right.
- 45:16So people are saying that, oh, you guys are are not coming out.
- 45:20And I keep telling them, listen, you have to taste them.
- 45:24You have to find the right blend.
- 45:26You know, it's not, it's not my blend.
- 45:29Listen, what I'm doing is I'm doing it for the consumers.
- 45:32And remember, it's got a age. And then in that meantime, while
- 45:36it's aging in your taste testing, you have to have all
- 45:38your licenses in order to be able to do it.
- 45:41Yeah. I mean, that's a whole part of
- 45:42the process. You know, and in New York, we've
- 45:45already tried applying for that license and we're still waiting.
- 45:48Yeah, unfortunately. Unfortunately.
- 45:52You know, this is the thing about America.
- 45:54You know, we have 50 different countries inside 1 United
- 45:57States, you know what I mean? And we have 15 different ways of
- 46:01doing things. And unfortunately, New York is
- 46:03not cigar friendly, right? No, they're not.
- 46:06They tax the hell out of you guys.
- 46:07Every 5% sales tax. You know, it's hard for a small
- 46:10business up there. That cigar.
- 46:13Let me put it to you this way. My lounge in Florida, OK, it's
- 46:19no different than a nice lounge in New York.
- 46:22We have it a lot easier than the guys in New York because the
- 46:26guys in New York every month, the number one thing they have
- 46:28to think about is, did I make enough money to pay my taxes and
- 46:32still make some money to pay the rent?
- 46:34Now let's talk about your cigar lounge in Florida.
- 46:38Tell us where it is and how you how you started that lounge.
- 46:43So, so you know, when I was with Terrazona, that kind of broke
- 46:48me, you know, So I'm, I'm sitting there with one of my
- 46:53friends, Ben Rosario, who's the manager of my lounge, and we're
- 46:56talking. I said, you know, you know way
- 46:58to make some money is to instead of just me pushing Casa Carl,
- 47:03Ohio, because that takes a lot of work to get on the road, just
- 47:08as, you know, just you're on the road, you're sending samples.
- 47:13People try the samples, They like him and then they they
- 47:17don't want to buy them and they give you excuses that I don't
- 47:20have space in my. Oh, absolutely.
- 47:22I used to get that excuse all the time.
- 47:24And then you walk in the human door and I go, man, your human
- 47:26door is empty. What the hell is wrong with you?
- 47:27Right. But that's irrelevant.
- 47:30If they don't have the money and they don't want to buy it, they
- 47:33just don't buy it, right. Regardless if they like their
- 47:36cigars or not, you know, so, so it's there's a lot of no's, a
- 47:41lot of no, no, no, no. You just got to keep trying,
- 47:44right. And so, so Ben was working at
- 47:51this cigar lounge and I said, you know, man, we ought to buy
- 47:54that lounge from person who owns it.
- 47:58And I don't know that's a good, yeah, that's a great idea.
- 48:03And then we make money from there and we could fund other
- 48:06things, right. And so we did an inventory of
- 48:11what was in that lounge and we made an offer and it wasn't too
- 48:15much. It was less than $200,000, by
- 48:18the way. That's that's great.
- 48:20And if for any lounge, no matter where it is, that's a steal.
- 48:24So this this lounge in particular opened during COVID
- 48:28and they didn't go broke, they sold everything they had.
- 48:32Wow. And they built a clientele
- 48:34that's consistent and loyal, right.
- 48:38It's in Davie, FL on 5679 S University Drive.
- 48:45Nice little small place about 1100 square feet.
- 48:48And and we have a a loyal, loyal clientele, most retired first
- 48:56responders, military and then a lot of rich guys who retire
- 49:00there who used to own, they were orange growers, right.
- 49:04They had a lot of land and stuff.
- 49:06So. So we're we're in the right spot
- 49:08and we have like four or five lounges around us but they can't
- 49:14touch us. They don't have what we have
- 49:16inside our human door. So.
- 49:19So to to go back a little bit, we make the offer, we take over
- 49:23and the first thing we do is, you know, I drop a project plan
- 49:26to renovate the place, right, and basically give it a
- 49:29facelift. So we threw all the old
- 49:32furniture out, put new furniture, we put new facing on
- 49:36the walls, repainted the place, added a couple extraction
- 49:39systems, redid the humidor and then redid the mini bar that we
- 49:45have. We can't sell liquor, but we
- 49:48could sell wine and beer, right? OK, so it's it's a it's a BYOB
- 49:53if you want. No, you can't.
- 49:55You can't bring your own in Florida, but.
- 49:58OK. But in Florida, they allow you
- 50:00to sell one vodka that's made by the state and then that's the
- 50:05only drink you're allowed to sell.
- 50:07That's liquor, right? We have that there.
- 50:11But we renovated the place and then we we brought in, we took
- 50:14out a lot of old stuff that was there for a lot of legacy stuff,
- 50:20the big brands that were there that just sit there and don't
- 50:23sell right. Which I was just going to say,
- 50:26if we're Austin cigar people, we kind of know what sits on the
- 50:29shelf even even as even not even you as an owner, You as a a just
- 50:35a consumer in your own right. We we all know what kind of sits
- 50:38there. Yeah.
- 50:39So, So there's a lot of legacy brands when they come in, you
- 50:42got to buy the entire line, you spend $20,000 and only two of
- 50:46those people ourselves, the rest of the system. 100% they do.
- 50:49Yeah. So we went to some of these
- 50:52legacy brands and said we don't want your stuff anymore.
- 50:54We just want two of these boxes but more of them because that's
- 50:59what sells. Oh you.
- 51:00We can't do that. You know it's an honor to have
- 51:03our our brand in your. I said no.
- 51:06The honor is the honor is that you have me as a customer.
- 51:10Let's I'm just going. To say the other thing too is
- 51:12even even for me, you know, not even owning a lounge.
- 51:16But like, I would do the same thing.
- 51:17If there's two things that sell, I'm not going to buy the entire
- 51:21line. I'm going to buy those two
- 51:23sides, those two cigars. Now, if you have four different
- 51:26sizes of those cigars, I'm going to buy those sizes because those
- 51:30two cigars sell. But that's that's how they make
- 51:33their money so. So we we tweaked the humidor and
- 51:35we brought in like initially we bought in 10 different boutique
- 51:41brands. OK.
- 51:43Our clientele never had boutique cigars before, so they were
- 51:46going like, what the hell is this guys, what are you doing?
- 51:49You know. You start smoking.
- 51:51Yeah, we say, hey, we're going to change your palate here.
- 51:54We're going to, we're going to cure, how are you medor to fit
- 52:00your taste and your demands. But we're going to make you
- 52:02taste, we're going to make you try new things that you haven't
- 52:06tried before. And they were very open to it,
- 52:09you know, which surprised us, right?
- 52:11I was just going to say that's a big, that's a big shock because
- 52:14I went to, I've went to places and handed out like a AB, AM, F
- 52:18or certain. Other, you know, boutique brands
- 52:20and people like, Oh no, I don't want to try that.
- 52:22I'm like and I do like you do. Just do me a favor, give it a
- 52:26try. If you don't like it, that's
- 52:28fine, but just try it. So Gee, do you have a question
- 52:33for Mr., Mario? Hey, listen, I first, first of
- 52:39all, Mario, listen, you know I love your brother and I I love
- 52:43their smokes. They're absolutely fantastic and
- 52:48you're doing a fantastic job. I was just talking to somebody
- 52:51the other day and I said that when Mario talks, you listen and
- 52:55that's what I do. That's what I do when listen.
- 52:58I could get I get captivated just by the way you you present
- 53:03everything. You have just an incredible
- 53:06wealth of knowledge. And I truly love just sitting
- 53:09back and listening to you talk because people learn so much
- 53:12more when they listen than when they talk.
- 53:15So brother, I I don't think, I can't think of a question that I
- 53:19already haven't asked you. So you know, don't take this,
- 53:25don't take this any other way than me just being a fan and
- 53:28sitting back and listening to you just just, you know, do your
- 53:33thing. I love it.
- 53:34I absolutely love it. I got you brother.
- 53:36Thank you so much also. You know, where can we get your
- 53:41cigars? Because we have somebody A.
- 53:43Buddy of Mine. He wants to try a cigar.
- 53:45Where can we get them at? So, so you you could call the
- 53:48lounge at in Davie, FL and say hey I want the Casa Caravalla or
- 53:53whatever and they'll work with you to ship it for you.
- 53:57You could DM me, you could DM me and then I'll work out how to
- 54:03get them to you. You could go on my website and
- 54:08any of the stores that are on the website should still be
- 54:11carrying them, right? Norfolk, Norfolk cigars, No
- 54:16Sofolk cigars, definitely got them.
- 54:18Leo Mill Lounge here in Woodbridge, VA has them also, so
- 54:25they're they're all there for for you guys to go out and and
- 54:28try to find them. Cigar Basement has them.
- 54:31So there's a lot of cigar loungers that carry them, you
- 54:34know, but let me get back to what I was saying.
- 54:36So. So the first thing I let them
- 54:37try was my cigars. I didn't sell it to them.
- 54:41I just gave it. I said here, you bought that.
- 54:43Try this, you know, and as a matter of fact, the first one we
- 54:47gave them was the plotto, you know, So if you like a
- 54:52Connecticut, you're going to like this.
- 54:53You know what I mean? If you like Arbano, you're going
- 54:56to like this, you know, if you like, you know.
- 55:00So. So this cigar here, if you like.
- 55:06An IP Carrillo cigar right here. OK, my Oscudo tastes like a a
- 55:15dared off midnight, You know what I mean?
- 55:18So I try. I try to imitate my cigars.
- 55:20Kind of like what other people smoke.
- 55:24So they have a relationship with that smoke, right?
- 55:28And every experience is different.
- 55:29You know what I mean? And and the guys loved it and by
- 55:34that time we brought in other brands and then man these guys
- 55:41were so loyal to us. They buy one of their legacy
- 55:43cigars and pick up a a stick that that's a boutique and they
- 55:48started doing that supporting us, you know and we were like OK
- 55:52this this is working. And then we started having
- 55:55cutting lights like last night we had Iluccione there, you
- 56:01know. So what we did last night is
- 56:04unfortunately we have we have a customer who doing a motorcycle
- 56:08run for kids toys and stuff like that.
- 56:11And he got hit by a by a car and went in a hospital and you know
- 56:16her medical bills are crazy, right?
- 56:18I just spent $36,000 on medical bills two months ago because I
- 56:23had I had a infection in my chest.
- 56:27It wasn't COVID. It was my membranes, right.
- 56:31Something I ate or somewhere. I walked in and I took that.
- 56:35Well, they thought it was a heart attack.
- 56:37It wasn't a heart attack. But they, they run you through
- 56:39all the procedures, right? That CT scan, that when I got
- 56:44the bill, I'm going, thank God I have insurance, right?
- 56:47Yeah. There's a lot of Americans
- 56:49don't. Yeah.
- 56:50Thank God I got insurance too, which is sad.
- 56:53So, OK, this is going to cost me about $5000.
- 56:57OK. You know, thank God, but this
- 56:59poor guy, you know, So what we did last night is we did a
- 57:03fundraiser for him, right, with the ilusione brand that came in.
- 57:09We raffle all kinds of boxes of cigars.
- 57:13So. But instead of selling them to
- 57:15the to the public at retail, we went wholesale, right?
- 57:22So instead of buying one, you could buy 2, right?
- 57:24Right. You know, and we raised all
- 57:27kinds of money for him. People love the cutting light.
- 57:33Prior to that we had GTO there for a cutting light.
- 57:36We had Caballero cigars in therefore cutting light.
- 57:40We had Karen Berger in December, you know, and we're going to
- 57:48continue to do that because that was never done before at the
- 57:51lounge, right. So we're constantly exposing our
- 57:56clients to new things. I mean as a as a consumer
- 57:59myself, I love the the cutting light aspects even if it's you
- 58:04know, even if it's a legacy brand or a boutique brand, I
- 58:06love the the cutting light aspects because you get to sit
- 58:10down with some of these brand owners.
- 58:12You know, like we went, we went to a a shop in Connecticut and I
- 58:17only went at that that day because Rick Rodriguez was up
- 58:21here from West Tampa and we went and you know my buddy had came
- 58:26with us and he never had W Tampa before.
- 58:31Yeah, so. So Ricky's, Ricky's one of these
- 58:33great guys. Oh, Ricky is a sweetheart.
- 58:36Who's been in the in the industry forever?
- 58:39He worked for a great company, he's smart and he finally made
- 58:43the decision to go out on his own.
- 58:45And he came out with W Dapa, which a great brand, great
- 58:48cigars, you know, and that's a nice story, you know.
- 58:54But he's got some good backing, you know what I mean?
- 58:56And he's going to be very successful, you know, And it's a
- 59:00great cigar. It's a great cigar and we wish
- 59:03him well. Mario, we're.
- 59:06Winding down for the last minute or so here.
- 59:08Mario, we want to thank you for coming on my brother.
- 59:11Don't go nowhere because I got some questions offline for you.
