Transcript
- 0:02Welcome to Bible Chat, where we have devotional conversations
- 0:06rooted in Scripture and relevant for today, December 25th.
- 0:11Growing up with purpose, have you ever felt stuck in the in
- 0:14between? Like you're waiting for your
- 0:16real life to start? Waiting to be older, wiser, more
- 0:19confident, more ready? The beautiful thing about Jesus
- 0:22is that He didn't skip the slow parts, He lived them.
- 0:25Matthew chapter 2 verse 11 says the wise men came and saw the
- 0:29child with Mary his mother, and they fell down and worshipped
- 0:32him. Even as a child, Jesus was
- 0:35worthy of worship. That means your value isn't tied
- 0:37to how grown you feel God's purpose can be on your life,
- 0:41even while you're still developing.
- 0:43Luke chapter 2 verse 21 reminds US Jesus was named on the 8th
- 0:47day. Jesus the name given by the
- 0:49Angel. Even when he was tiny, his
- 0:52identity was set. And Luke chapter 2 verse 52 says
- 0:56Jesus increased in wisdom and in stature and in favor with God
- 0:59and man. That verse is so comforting
- 1:02because it shows growth is a process.
- 1:04Wisdom takes time, character takes repetition.
- 1:08Favor with God and people is built through daily choices,
- 1:11obedience, humility, faithfulness.
- 1:13Jesus had chores, He had routines.
- 1:16He lived under authority. He learned, He waited.
- 1:19And if even Jesus grew step by step, you don't have to rush
- 1:22your process. God can use the ordinary days,
- 1:25school work, family responsibilities, awkward
- 1:28moments, small decisions to shape you into who you're
- 1:31becoming. So if you feel like nothing big
- 1:34is happening yet, don't despise the growing season.
- 1:37God is doing deep work. He's forming your heart,
- 1:40strengthening your faith, and teaching you wisdom that will
- 1:43carry you into your future. Growing up with purpose means
- 1:46trusting God in the slow moments and letting Him build something
- 1:49strong in you. Let's pray.
- 1:51Heavenly Father, thank you for showing me that even Jesus grew
- 1:54step by step. Help me be patient with my
- 1:57process and faithful in the ordinary parts of my life.
- 2:00Give me wisdom. Help me make choices that honor
- 2:03You and grow me in favor with you and with people.
- 2:06Teach me to trust that You are shaping me for purpose, even
- 2:09when it feels slow. In Jesus name, Amen.

- 3:19Now I invite you to spend time with God in today's three-year
- 3:22Bible reading plan Matthew 2 World English Bible.
- 3:27Now when Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judea, in the days
- 3:30of King Herod, behold, wise men from the East came to Jerusalem,
- 3:34saying, Where is he who is born king of the Jews?
- 3:38For we saw his star in the east, and have come to worship him.
- 3:41When King Herod heard it, he was troubled, and all Jerusalem with
- 3:45him. Gathering together all the chief
- 3:47priests and scribes of the people, he asked them where the
- 3:50Christ would be born. They said to him in Bethlehem of
- 3:53Judea. For this is written through the
- 3:55prophet. You, Bethlehem, land of Judah,
- 3:57are in no way least among the Princess of Judah.
- 4:00For out of you shall come a governor who shall shepherd my
- 4:02people Israel. Then Herod secretly called the
- 4:06wise men, and learned from them exactly what time the star
- 4:09appeared. He sent them to Bethlehem and
- 4:11said, Go and search diligently for the young child.
- 4:15When you have found him, bring me word, so that I also may come
- 4:17and worship him. They, having heard the king,
- 4:20went their way. And behold, the star which they
- 4:23saw in the East went before them until it came and stood over
- 4:26where the young child was. When they saw the star, they
- 4:29rejoiced with exceedingly great joy.
- 4:32They came into the house and saw the young child with Mary his
- 4:35mother, and they fell down and worshipped him.
- 4:37Opening their treasures, they offered to him gifts, gold,
- 4:41frankincense, and myrrh. Being warned in a dream not to
- 4:44return to Herod, they went back to their own country another
- 4:47way. Now when they had departed,
- 4:49behold, an Angel of the Lord appeared to Joseph in a dream,
- 4:52saying, Arise, and take the young child and his mother, and
- 4:56flee into Egypt, and stay there until I tell you, for Herod will
- 5:00seek the young child to destroy him.
- 5:02He arose and took the young child and his mother by night,
- 5:06and departed into Egypt, and was there until the death of Herod,
- 5:09that it might be fulfilled. Which was spoken by the Lord
- 5:12through the prophet saying, Out of Egypt.
- 5:14I called my son. Then Herod, when he saw that he
- 5:18was mocked by the wise men, was exceedingly angry and sent out
- 5:22and killed all the male children who were in Bethlehem and in all
- 5:25the surrounding countryside from 2 years old and under, according
- 5:29to the exact time which he had learned from the wise men.
- 5:32Then that which was spoken by Jeremiah the prophet was
- 5:34fulfilled, saying a voice was heard in Rama, lamentation,
- 5:39weeping and great mourning. Rachel weeping for her children.
- 5:42She wouldn't be comforted, because they are no more.
- 5:45But when Herod was dead, behold, an Angel of the Lord appeared in
- 5:48a dream to Joseph in Egypt, saying, Arise, and take the
- 5:52young child and his mother, and go into the land of Israel.
- 5:56For those who sought the young child's life are dead.
- 5:59He arose and took the young child and his mother and came
- 6:02into the land of Israel. But when he heard that Archelaus
- 6:05was reigning over Judea in the place of his father Herod, he
- 6:08was afraid to go there. Being warned in a dream, he
- 6:12withdrew into the region of Galilee and came and lived in a
- 6:14city called Nazareth, that it might be fulfilled, which was
- 6:18spoken through the prophets, that he will be called a
- 6:20Nazarene. Luke 221 to 52 World English
- 6:24Bible. When 8 days were fulfilled for
- 6:26the circumcision of the child, his name was called Jesus, which
- 6:30was given by the Angel before he was conceived in the womb.
- 6:34When the days of their purification according to the
- 6:36Law of Moses were fulfilled, they brought him up to Jerusalem
- 6:40to present him to the Lord. As it is written in the Law of
- 6:42the Lord, Every male who opens the womb shall be called holy to
- 6:46the Lord, and to offer a sacrifice according to that
- 6:49which is said in the Law of the Lord.
- 6:51A pair of turtle doves or two young pigeons.
- 6:54Behold, there was a man in Jerusalem whose name was Simeon.
- 6:58This man was righteous and devout, looking for the
- 7:01consolation of Israel, and the Holy Spirit was on him.
- 7:05It had been revealed to him by the Holy Spirit that he should
- 7:07not see death before he had seen the Lord's Christ.
- 7:10He came in the Spirit into the temple when the parents brought
- 7:13in the child Jesus, that they might do concerning him
- 7:16according to the custom of the law.
- 7:18Then he received him into his arms and blessed God, and said,
- 7:22Now you are releasing your servant Master, according to
- 7:25your Word in peace. For my eyes have seen your
- 7:28salvation, which you have prepared before the face of all
- 7:31peoples, a light for revelation to the nation's, and the glory
- 7:35of your people. Israel.
- 7:37Joseph and his mother were marveling at the things which
- 7:39were spoken concerning him. Simeon blessed them and said to
- 7:43Mary his mother, Behold, this child is appointed for the
- 7:47falling and the rising of many in Israel, and for a sign which
- 7:50is spoken against. Yes, a sword will Pierce through
- 7:53your own soul, that the thoughts of many hearts may be revealed.
- 7:57There was 1 Anna, a prophetess, the daughter of Fannell of the
- 8:00tribe of Asher. She was of a great age, having
- 8:03lived with a husband seven years from her virginity, and she had
- 8:06been a widow for about 84 years who didn't depart from the
- 8:09Temple, worshipping with fastings and petitions night and
- 8:12day. Coming up at that very hour.
- 8:15She gave thanks to the Lord and spoke of Him to all those who
- 8:18were looking for redemption in Jerusalem.
- 8:20When they had accomplished all things that were according to
- 8:23the law of the Lord, they returned into Galilee to their
- 8:26own city, Nazareth. The child was growing and was
- 8:29becoming strong in spirit, being filled with wisdom, and the
- 8:33grace of God was upon him. His parents went every year to
- 8:37Jerusalem at the feast of the Passover.
- 8:39When he was 12 years old, they went up to Jerusalem according
- 8:42to the custom of the feast. And when they had fulfilled the
- 8:45days as they were returning, the boy Jesus stayed behind in
- 8:49Jerusalem. Joseph and his mother didn't
- 8:51know it, but supposing him to be in the company, they went a
- 8:55day's journey, and they looked for him among their relatives
- 8:58and acquaintances. When they didn't find him, they
- 9:01returned to Jerusalem looking for him.
- 9:03After three days they found him in the temple, sitting in the
- 9:06middle of the teachers, both listening to them and asking
- 9:09them questions. All who heard him were amazed at
- 9:12his understanding and his answers.
- 9:14When they saw him, they were astonished.
- 9:17And his mother said to him, Son, why have you treated us this
- 9:20way? Behold, your father and I were
- 9:22anxiously looking for you. He said to them, why were you
- 9:25looking for me? Didn't you know that I must be
- 9:27in my father's house? They didn't understand the
- 9:30saying which he spoke to them. And he went down with them and
- 9:33came to Nazareth. He was subject to them.
- 9:35And his mother kept all these sayings in her heart.
- 9:38And Jesus increased in wisdom and stature and in favor with
- 9:42God and men. Thanks for joining us on Bible
