We're so excited today to have on our guest to talk all things Bachelor, finding love leading in later in life, and so much more. Leslie Fhima, welcome to Excuse My Grandma.
• 1:31
Speaker 5: Thanks. I'm so happy to be here.
• 1:32
Speaker 3: I know. I feel like it's been a long time in the making.
• 1:35
Speaker 5: Very long. Very long. Because when I was in New York a couple times ago, you guys weren't here. And then another time, you weren't here. And now, it worked.
• 1:45
Speaker 3: I know. It was like perfect timing. Totally. So for those who aren't familiar with Bachelor Nation and all the things, explain who you are, why you wanted to do the show originally, all that.
• 1:56
Speaker 5: Okay. So, well, I live in Minneapolis. I've grown up in Minneapolis my whole life, and I have been married twice and divorced for a very long time. And one day, my daughter and I were watching The Bachelor. This was before COVID, and I watched The Bachelor.
• 2:15
I made my kids watch it with me all the time or The Bachelorette, like, from day one.
• 2:20
Speaker 3: If you convince them, they wouldn't convince you. Like, you're the one who wanted to watch.
• 2:24
Speaker 5: Oh, yeah. I was the one that wanted I made them. Like, even my son, Eli, he was I he's like, you know, I remember you made me sit down and watch The Bachelor with you I love it. When he
• 2:33
Speaker 4: was, like, six. Oh, god. That's torture.
• 2:35
Speaker 5: No. Because you know what? Think you grew up to be a very romantic, sweet, kind, caring man. That's so true. And everybody says that to me.
• 2:44
So I'm yeah. I think I did it.
• 2:46
Speaker 3: Watch Nickelodeon. I wanna watch SpongeBob. And you're like, no. You have to watch The Bachelor.
• 2:51
Speaker 5: It was only on once a week. It wasn't every day. True. But so one day before, you know, we were my daughter Chloe and I are watching the show and she turned to me and she goes, mom, you should be on the show. And I'm like, they're 25 Chloe.
• 3:06
And she goes, well, they should do one for older people. And I said to her, I don't think anybody wants to see old people kissing in a hot tub. And then literally six years later, I'm kissing in a hot tub the show.
• 3:20
Speaker 3: She had the idea. She should have called up ABC and told, like
• 3:23
Speaker 4: They weren't ready for that idea at
• 3:25
  Speaker 3: the time.
• 3:25
Speaker 4: You know what? Sometimes it has to it has to develop. You can't sometimes see things much faster than these professional, people at the studios.
• 3:34
Speaker 3: I also feel that we're in a time now with more, like, age inclusivity. Exactly. Yes. And I wanna, like, talk about that more too, but
• 3:42
Speaker 5: And I have to say, it was really insightful now looking back on it because she was probably 26 at the time or so. And I thought, why would a 26 year old wanna watch us? But I have so many people young coming up to me. You make going old look good, or I'm not afraid to grow old. You're got so much life and you're well.
• 4:07
So it is funny because the young people do like the show.
• 4:11
Speaker 4: I think young people like to be with older people. I have decided because I have all these people come up to me and they say they loved Kimberly and they love watching us together and they love me. I said, Why would anybody love an 83 year old at this point? But they do. And I think very much what you're saying is people identify with either their parents, their grandparents, it's great.
• 4:35
You can give people hope. Life is not over at 25. Life goes on, you could be happily I know people now we're getting married in their late eighties and nineties and they want another life.
• 4:48
Speaker 5: Oh, good. There's hope for me then.
• 4:49
Speaker 4: Oh, there's hope for everybody. Go ahead.
• 4:52
Speaker 3: Well, but that's a good point because Bachelor in Paradise, the season you were on this past summer mixed ages. So, and it was very evident that like the young people loved being around the Golden's. They
• 5:02
  Speaker 5: loved us.
• 5:03
Speaker 3: And vice I mean, were the most entertaining part of the whole show.
• 5:07
Speaker 5: Well, I don't know about if they would agree with you, but no. We had so much fun and they were not expecting us to be like that, you know. And I came away with like six new daughters, like literally. I love these girls so much. And the guys, I mean, they're just they're just lovely young people and we had so much fun and they were like, yeah, these guys like to party, you know, like, yeah, we're here on vacation.
• 5:32
  Let's go.
• 5:33
Speaker 3: It was wild, by the way. Yeah. Like, do you act like crazy? I mean, you were probably I love watching you because I feel that this don't cancel me, but you're the most, like, normal. Like, I feel like I relate when I'm watching you.
• 5:45
And then some people are like, wild.
• 5:48
Speaker 5: Yeah. I'm not doing any body shot.
• 5:49
Speaker 3: No. Like, you were taking shots out of their belly button.
• 5:52
Speaker 5: Yeah. I'm not I'm not doing that. That's Damn and Gail didn't watch that show. Take it. For
• 5:57
Speaker 4: For sure. But but the truth is, do relation I'm always curious. Does something come out of these shows, as far as relationships? Do people actually get together?
• 6:07
Speaker 5: Yes. And well, there has been there there has been some very successful marriages, relationships coming out of the franchise. But but this year in Bachelor in Paradise, four couples came out. One's engaged and the three are still very strong. That's great.
• 6:22
So that that was really beautiful Right. To
• 6:26
Speaker 3: Well, there was also this added element this season of like a cash prize.
• 6:30
  Speaker 5: Yeah.
• 6:30
Speaker 3: So was telling you about Grandma earlier. It feels like a different show as a viewer. It felt like Survivor or Traitors or
• 6:38
Speaker 5: one of those things that are was a game aspect to it. They cut it off at at one point and said, okay, now it's a game. And we're like, wait, no more people are coming to the beach.
• 6:48
Speaker 3: So you didn't know going in when you signed up that it'd be
• 6:51
  Speaker 5: like that.
• 6:52
Speaker 3: Okay. Did it change your wanting to be there or anything?
• 6:56
Speaker 5: No, not at all. I mean, you know, I'm I'm very competitive person. I used to be a figure skater. I'm I'm a that's my thing. I'm you know, I'm like, okay, Get me at it.
• 7:05
Speaker 3: But there's also so many other benefits, like exposure and, like, getting into this
• 7:10
Speaker 5: I mean, I have I have gotten I I have gotten some branding deals from it and all that stuff.
• 7:18
Speaker 4: Yeah. Otherwise, it would not be profitable for the and it's only one person wins. Everybody else has been, you know, spending a lot of
• 7:25
Speaker 3: time Even if doing you win, it's not like you're getting a cash prize except for in this new, like, bachelor of care. It's just a very different format. Right.
• 7:31
  Speaker 5: Yeah.
• 7:32
Speaker 3: And while I was watching you look so good, by the way. I was so surprised when I heard you
• 7:36
Speaker 5: were a grandma. Yeah. A Glammer.
• 7:38
Speaker 3: Glammer. Do you think you're, like, redefining how people think of grandmas and what they're supposed to look like?
• 7:46
Speaker 5: I do. I mean, I mean, look at your grandma. She's gorgeous.
• 7:50
  Speaker 3: You're redefining too.
• 7:51
Speaker 4: I know. Yeah. I believe that women could be wonderful at every age. Yeah. I mean, you know, that old stereotype of the grandma coming out in an apron with a spoon is long gone.
• 8:01
Speaker 5: Mean, I that's what they had me do basically for the, my intro and the golden bath. Oh, they did. Yeah. They had me come out and with a walker and a gray wig. And then I ripped it off and I had a mini dress underneath.
• 8:12
But, you know, I, I surround myself with young people. My my children are like my best friends. Mhmm. So I hang out with them a lot. I teach in Minneapolis.
• 8:23
I teach fitness, and I have a lot of young friends come into my classes and all that stuff. And, you know, like, taught my grandkids how to snowboard and, you know, I am young at heart and they love being around me.
• 8:36
  Speaker 4: That's what's great.
• 8:37
Speaker 5: My granddaughter and I do TikTok videos. And when I look at the two of you, I'm like, I hope that's us someday. You know what mean? It really warms my heart. I when I watch you guys and listen to you, I sometimes tear up a little bit because I really want that.
• 8:50
  I want that relationship.
• 8:51
Speaker 4: Leslie, I'm tearing up.
• 8:54
Speaker 5: It's a beautiful relationship. And I had that with my grandmother. She lived with us. And so I'm You can't
• 9:01
Speaker 4: my mind move in with you.
• 9:03
Speaker 3: My gosh. I've lived with you. And I'm like, woo hoo, I'm moving in. And if it was vice versa, I'd be like,
• 9:09
Speaker 4: oh. I think what goes around comes around, Alright. I'm
• 9:14
Speaker 5: I love that. I love that.
• 9:15
Speaker 3: What does being a grandmother and, like, a parent mean to you?
• 9:19
Speaker 5: It is absolutely well, being a mom was my dream job, really. I mean and being married, I I wanted to be married. I just wanted to stay married. It just didn't work out when How old were you
• 9:29
Speaker 4: when you got married? May I ask?
• 9:31
Speaker 5: Well, the first time I was 21. Okay.
• 9:33
  Speaker 4: I when I got
• 9:34
Speaker 5: married. I married my
• 9:35
Speaker 4: High school or college sweetheart.
• 9:37
Speaker 5: And we stayed together seven years. You know? At 21 is not what you want at 27. Exactly. But then I married the most handsome, gorgeous, French Moroccan Jewish man that I've ever met in my life, and I felt madly, deeply in love with him.
• 9:54
I met him in New York through mutual friends. He owned a restaurant, blah blah blah. All of a sudden, I became pregnant, and I moved there, and we got married. And there was a lot of infidelity. And I tried to keep the marriage together throughout.
• 10:10
And we had two children together, and, you know, we're fine now. And he lives in we, you know, moved back home in Minneapolis after the LA riots, and we did, you know but I tried. That's all I wanted was to be married, and, you know, I Sometimes it doesn't work. It doesn't work. And he was probably the love of my life, but it didn't work.
• 10:30
Right. And but I have these two amazing children, and I have three amazing children, and they're all so close, and But I always say having children is a vehicle to have grandchildren. No question. I mean, I'm sorry, but being a grandmother is I've never felt
• 10:50
Speaker 4: anything. Have different feeling a about a grandchild.
• 10:53
Speaker 5: Yeah. Literally can't get into Well, they're perfect.
• 10:56
Speaker 4: Yeah. And when they're not perfect, you leave. Exactly. Feel the story. And when they start to cry, you're out of there.
• 11:02
Speaker 5: Exactly. And it's a perfect job, and I love it.
• 11:04
Speaker 3: I love hearing about your journey because, like, you still have hope with dating even though you have gone through harder things in relationships. But I'm sure how do you think about I shouldn't put words in your mouth. Like, do you feel like you took lessons from that relationship that you're gonna bring into
• 11:21
  Speaker 5: Oh, yeah.
• 11:21
  Speaker 3: The next one?
• 11:22
Speaker 5: I have taken many lessons. I have grown. And even being on the show helped me grow. Mhmm. I mean, I I did fall in love with Gary and and as much as you can in four weeks.
• 11:35
Yeah. But he's not the normal person that I would fall in love with. And so I opened my heart, you know, and obviously, I know now that it probably wouldn't. Was the right It was definitely not meant to be. But at the time, you're in a bubble and, you know, I had feelings and I normally don't have feelings.
• 11:54
That's what I like. You know, my friends were like, come on, Leslie, you have to be more open. And the last thing my daughter said to me is like, mom, make sure you open your heart. Don't close close off. I know how you are.
• 12:06
You know, I'm picky. I'm like shallow hell sometimes. I'm like, you know, yeah, I just a lot of people. Yeah. And I, but I I have a right to be picky because I have a really good life, and I don't need a man.
• 12:18
I would like a man. I don't need a man. So, you know, I'd rather have my good life without without someone that doesn't enhance it.
• 12:28
Speaker 4: Yeah. Right. Someone to bring something to the plate. We always say that now, especially, you know, I have a lot of friends who unfortunately either are divorced or or widows. Yeah.
• 12:37
And, they're they're bright women. And they're accomplished. And unless somebody brings something to the table,
• 12:43
Speaker 3: don't need there's no someone sitting next
• 12:45
  Speaker 5: to you
• 12:45
Speaker 3: for No, no you don't.
• 12:46
Speaker 5: Not anymore. Totally agree.
• 12:48
Speaker 4: It's a different world. Even for older women, because I'm gonna take their stance. You'd rather hang out with good girlfriends, travel with friends, run your business, whatever it is, but if somebody enhances your life, it's perfect. You're not having children anymore. You're not Exactly how
• 13:06
  Speaker 5: I feel.
• 13:07
Speaker 4: Exactly. It's a different mindset to dating, I
• 13:10
  Speaker 5: think. So,
• 13:12
Speaker 4: I've often wondered, though, when you're in that bubble, like you say, a bubble, all the women are in love with the same fellow. Almost like what do they call them?
• 13:24
Speaker 5: The Mormon? The Mormon? Exactly. You're reading my mind. I know.
• 13:28
Speaker 4: I mean, is there animosity amongst the women? Because it would seem to me everybody's vying for the same guy.
• 13:36
Speaker 5: Yeah. I think maybe the younger girls might have that. We didn't feel that. I mean, Teresa, who actually, I don't like to say win because it's not really a contest, but she was the one we were best friends. Okay.
• 13:55
And we are now. And but, you know, there comes a point where like, oh, know, but I don't feel that we had that at all. Okay. I really don't.
• 14:06
Speaker 3: It's interesting. Shout out Teresa watching in the back It's right so cute to have I mean, I feel like any work things I do, I bring you, obviously, because we do stuff together. And if she can't come, I ask my mom or my dad because it's like, it's so nice to have support It is.
• 14:19
Speaker 5: Industry. I mean, we do we do support each other, and she always has my back, and I always have her back. And, you know, I mean, listen, we don't see each other very often, but we try to see each other enough. And we talk either every day or text every day. But I feel like, you know, I always look at it like the girls on the show.
• 14:40
Would I choose to be friends with these girls if I had met them outside of the show? And that's kinda how I figure it You know, I mean, I love all of them. I have love for all of them, but being close, you know, is it's a there's just probably four, you know, that that I'm close to. It's like a lot. Yeah.
• 15:00
  Speaker 4: It's a lot.
• 15:00
Speaker 3: Four new friends. Yeah. Yeah. Exactly. It's hard to make new friends.
• 15:04
And we were talking about this recently. Right. My mom's friends are the same She went to high from high school.
• 15:09
Speaker 5: Like, it's hard to make them Same here. Yeah. I was just But
• 15:11
Speaker 4: your mom is always like that. Yeah. And she's kept all those friends. Yeah. You know?
• 15:15
Speaker 5: Me too. And I was just saying, I, I was playing Mahjong with my, these are the girls that I went to kindergarten with. Right. And I was telling them when I was gonna be on your show and my friend, Pam goes, oh my God, I know. Yeah.
• 15:28
Kimmy's mom Barb. Right? Like, it was just such a I'm like, really? That's a
• 15:32
  Speaker 3: small world.
• 15:33
Speaker 5: Yeah. Such small world. But it's the same thing. These are girls that do I see them every day? No.
• 15:38
Do we talk every day? No. But they know me better
• 15:40
  Speaker 4: Than any
• 15:41
Speaker 5: they know me since kindergarten. Right. So nice. It's just crazy.
• 15:44
Speaker 3: I also feel like that, like, sisterhood amongst the golden women on the show. Like, that's why in 2025, I prefer Golden Bachelor to Bachelor or Bachelorette.
• 15:55
  Speaker 4: Yeah.
• 15:55
Speaker 3: Because I feel like ten, fifteen years ago or whenever Bachelor started
• 15:59
  Speaker 5: Yeah.
• 15:59
Speaker 3: Like, I loved the cattiness amongst the women. Like, that drove
• 16:03
Speaker 5: That's what keeps that's what people wanted to see.
• 16:05
Speaker 3: Yeah. But now, I don't feel that way. Like, it
• 16:08
Speaker 5: kinda gives me the It makes me uncomfortable.
• 16:10
Speaker 3: It does. Right? Yeah. I like I But I
• 16:12
Speaker 4: think that's with age. That's getting mature. Maybe. I think when you're immature and you're in your early twenties, you tend to like to hear all the fighting and the cat fighting. As you get a little bit older, you say, oh, god.
• 16:24
  Life is not that, hopefully.
• 16:26
Speaker 5: Maybe. Yeah. I our cast, we did not do that. I mean, it it it there may have been a thing here and there, but it wasn't really. Yeah.
• 16:34
  Yeah. Remember, there's editing involved.
• 16:36
Speaker 4: Of course. Oh, I'm sure.
• 16:37
  Speaker 5: Of course.
• 16:39
Speaker 3: Are you dating nowadays? How is that going?
• 16:42
Speaker 5: Yeah. None. No. Not going.
• 16:45
Speaker 3: Do you want it to be?
• 16:46
Speaker 5: I would love to be, but you have to understand, I live in Minneapolis. I've lived there my whole life except for a few years I lived in LA. I know everybody. I knew everyone before I went on the show because I teach at a I teach at a lifetime and I teach thousands of people, like, literally. And I just know everybody.
• 17:07
And and, you know, being Jewish, that's a very small Jewish community. It's a little big town, big little town, whatever you wanna say. And I'm not gonna date someone's husband they just divorced. I am just not gonna do that. So Okay.
• 17:20
Dating is very hard there for me. I'm not gonna go on the apps now after being on the show. It just doesn't. I am just
• 17:29
Speaker 3: Why you think people would swipe for the wrong reason kind
• 17:31
Speaker 5: of thing? Yeah. And and
• 17:33
Speaker 4: I I just don't think she needs to do that anymore.
• 17:35
Speaker 3: Okay. What's your advice then, Grandma?
• 17:37
Speaker 4: I have a lot no. She's a beautiful woman in the prime of her life. She will find somebody. There will be some guy in Minneapolis that's when she's walking into a soda shop
• 17:49
Speaker 3: Oh my god. That is this is not yeah. First of what is a soda shop? Well, I Second second of all, like, Grandma, usually, I am pushing those rom com meet cutes and you're you don't.
• 18:02
Speaker 4: She will. You will know. I'm I'm believing it for her. She's gonna she's gonna find somebody wonderful. It doesn't have to be this week.
• 18:08
  It doesn't have to be
• 18:09
Speaker 5: this week. But if they It doesn't even have to be in Minneapolis. No. She can
• 18:12
Speaker 4: come to Palm Beach and come and come visit us. Yeah. And she might find the love of her life.
• 18:17
Speaker 5: Yeah. And I have friends that live there and I, you know, I'm definitely wanna take a little vacation there. Yeah. But, you know, I took my retreats to Costa Rica. It could be someone on a beach.
• 18:26
Exactly. Always think that's why I never say no to anything. I never know who's gonna be.
• 18:33
Speaker 4: Know. My mother used to say, put on your makeup because you never know who you're gonna meet.
• 18:37
Speaker 5: And now I gotta put my makeup on because you never know who's gonna take a picture
• 18:40
  Speaker 3: of it. Right.
• 18:42
Speaker 4: This has been a terrible trauma.
• 18:43
Speaker 3: But you sound like her.
• 18:44
Speaker 4: Because I did my cataract surgery two weeks ago, and I can't wear eye makeup. And they only wanna take selfies with me, and I keep saying, promise. Don't take
• 18:53
  Speaker 3: You cannot tell.
• 18:54
Speaker 4: I can tell though.
• 18:56
Speaker 3: Yeah. But no one's gonna be like, oh, it's beautiful.
• 18:58
  Speaker 5: I didn't even notice.
• 18:59
Speaker 4: I'm, oh my gosh. I I'm, I'm looking at your eyes and how beautiful they are. And I'm saying,
• 19:04
  Speaker 3: oh my
• 19:04
Speaker 4: God, can't put everybody's hair on.
• 19:08
Speaker 3: Would it be nerve racking at all to or, like, stressful to think about let's say you do find someone amazing, like, merging the lives at this point in your life, like or blending families or that kind of thing. Is that exciting? Or Well,
• 19:23
Speaker 5: that is definitely a prerequisite. I need to find a family man. I need to find someone that understands. I'm not going to say that I don't want someone that doesn't have children because that really closes me off. But if they don't have children, sometimes they don't understand.
• 19:38
Because on a Saturday night, if, my kids, my sons, call me and say, I really need you to watch Yosi or whoever, I'm gonna do it. I mean, that's my that's my prerogative, and that's my choice. And the person I'm with is gonna have to understand that we're not gonna go have dinner now or something. So, you know, that I have to find the person's gonna understand that.
• 20:04
Speaker 4: Tends to work better when somebody also has a family. Yeah. Because you have commonality of interests and you've gone through the same things, staying up late at night, traumas with teenagers. You have something to relate to. Exactly.
• 20:17
I mean, it's not completely exclusive of that, but
• 20:20
Speaker 5: mean, I kind of wouldn't mind to find someone that lives out of town because then we can be together, focus on each other. Then
• 20:26
Speaker 3: that's what I do. Long Yeah. Where? California and New
• 20:30
Speaker 5: York. Oh, well, that's a really
• 20:32
  Speaker 4: That's fun
• 20:32
Speaker 5: a long distance. That is. I was thinking Chicago.
• 20:36
Speaker 4: Yeah. She wasn't thinking of 5,000
• 20:39
  Speaker 3: But that's miles
• 20:40
Speaker 5: okay. I mean, you're young. That's awesome. And, you know, but that's just, I'm busy. My life is full.
• 20:47
I have so much going on. But I do wanna focus on that person. But sometimes, I feel like if it was in Minneapolis, it might be a little bit harder for I don't know. Mean Or
• 20:56
Speaker 3: you can just go slow. Like, it doesn't have to be overnight. Now you're, like, doing all the things together and moving in and doing all that.
• 21:02
Speaker 5: No, no, no. I moving in.
• 21:04
Speaker 4: Nobody's moving in at that I kinda like my Nobody's moving in, Kim. We're not trying things out at sixty. It either works or not, and then just call it a day.
• 21:14
  Speaker 5: Yeah.
• 21:15
  Speaker 4: That's the problem.
• 21:17
Speaker 5: It's kinda like with my grandkids. Okay. I'm done.
• 21:19
Speaker 3: Yeah. Exactly. See when you want to. Yeah. Does heartbreak feel different at this stage in your life versus in your twenties?
• 21:28
Speaker 5: Yeah. It does. I mean, heartbreak is heartbreak no matter how old you are, and it sucks, you know? But when you get heartbroken at 64, like I did on the show, it was it was a tough one for me because it was in front of millions of people. I knew it was going to be in front of millions of people.
• 21:49
And that was that was hard. Yeah. You know, because in the moment, I'm ugly crying, and I don't know what I'm saying and all that stuff. But then it's like, you know what? This is me.
• 22:03
  I'm not acting.
• 22:05
Speaker 3: Well, what would be a negative thing that someone would have thought seeing you cry?
• 22:08
Speaker 5: Oh, I got lots of negative things. I'm broken. I'm I'm People are very mean. Yeah. They're very People are very People they we all got bullied.
• 22:15
Speaker 3: For being emotional and vulnerable?
• 22:17
Speaker 5: I'm broken. I don't know how she's been divorced twice. She doesn't know how to keep a relationship together.
• 22:23
Speaker 4: You know? I think people are you know, unfortunately, some of these shows
• 22:28
Speaker 5: I need therapy. That was a lot everyone said I need therapy.
• 22:31
Speaker 3: Right. So those are kind of the assumptions people were making.
• 22:34
  Speaker 5: Mhmm.
• 22:34
Speaker 3: How would you clarify some of those?
• 22:37
Speaker 5: Well, I don't really you know, I clarify it when I go on podcasts and stuff, but I don't Dwell on it. You know, I mean, I clarify by, like, really? I mean, how come it's okay for the 25 year old to be crying their eyes out? I mean, it's you know, we're women. We we feel, and we it doesn't matter if we're 25 or 65.
• 22:57
I mean, heartbreak is heartbreak. And, yes, I've had a lot of therapy in my life. Doesn't mean I can't cry over something. You know?
• 23:05
Speaker 4: And it also makes good theater. I have to say. Theater. Is theater. It is theater.
• 23:10
  It's a show. It's a show.
• 23:12
Speaker 3: And No, you're it's really crying. You're not an actor.
• 23:15
  Speaker 6: No. I
• 23:15
Speaker 5: was not an actor.
• 23:16
Speaker 4: But the truth is, it's still they edit it so that it makes it entertaining for the I mean, if everything was rosy all the time, nobody would wanna put it on, I have a feeling. It's not happy days.
• 23:28
Speaker 5: Mhmm. No. It wasn't a happy day for me. Right. So
• 23:32
Speaker 3: when you're in those moments or just generally, what makes you feel confident or beautiful on a day to day?
• 23:39
Speaker 5: I just I'm very comfortable in my own skin, and that's the beauty of getting older. I don't really care Mhmm. What I say or do. Yeah, except when I was crying like that, that was a little But normally, on an everyday basis, I'm just very comfortable in my own skin, and I'm very happy with myself. I feel like, you know, I lived a great life.
• 24:01
There's ups and downs. I mean, you know, really bad things happened to me. My father died of suicide. I mean, it was there's a lot that I've gone through, but all those things I feel got me to the place where I am right now. And and me, it just sure.
• 24:17
And I and I yeah. And I count my blessings, really. I mean, do I have a man in my life? Do I have a lot of things that my friends have? Do I go to Palm Beach in the winter?
• 24:26
No. But I have three beautiful children and almost four grandchildren. I have one on the way. Oh, So I will have four. I'm very rich in life in that respect.
• 24:36
  Speaker 4: That's great.
• 24:36
Speaker 5: I love that mind. Yeah.
• 24:38
Speaker 3: Okay. Let's move on to some pop culture stuff. Oh, okay. Well, first, are you watching the season of Golden Bachelor? Yes.
• 24:45
Yes. Any thoughts? Early impressions of anyone?
• 24:49
Speaker 5: Yeah. I mean, I don't know. I just I I think the women are beautiful. You know, I they're all, again, they're all different. I think we are the OGs, so we started it.
• 25:04
And, you know, it's all good. I mean, you know, every season. Mel, you know, isn't probably my guy, but, you know, I mean, somebody's guy, so that's good. Yeah.
• 25:16
Speaker 4: Yeah. How did they select the man?
• 25:18
Speaker 3: It's like a whole casting process.
• 25:19
Speaker 5: Yeah. Casting. Oh, yeah.
• 25:21
Speaker 3: Would you recommend to any of your mahjong girls, any of your girls from kindergarten to ever go on the show?
• 25:27
Speaker 5: They would never go
• 25:28
Speaker 3: on the show. No. Do they watch Golden Bachelor?
• 25:31
Speaker 5: Oh yeah. Well, they watch me.
• 25:32
  Speaker 4: They watch you.
• 25:33
Speaker 5: They are not watching the
• 25:34
  Speaker 3: show. Okay.
• 25:34
Speaker 5: Okay. And they didn't watch Bachelor in Paradise.
• 25:37
Speaker 3: Okay. Wait, not your season either?
• 25:39
Speaker 5: Uh-uh. Why? I don't know. I went to Maj a couple, like a month ago after the show after, and I, and it was on, it was always in July. And what I was trying to explain, and they're like, so what I'm like, did you not watch your best friends on national TV and you didn't watch me?
• 25:59
  And then
• 25:59
  Speaker 3: It's so funny.
• 26:00
Speaker 5: I don't care. It's fine. Yeah. But it was You
• 26:02
Speaker 3: probably figured you could just give them the download when you got home.
• 26:05
Speaker 5: Yeah. It was fine. I mean, my best friend Nancy watched it. Like, it was fine. But, you know, so it was like
• 26:13
Speaker 4: Sometimes, you know, when you watch something that's a person that you're very close Mhmm. Get hurt, It gets uncomfortable.
• 26:19
Speaker 3: Yes. It's like cringey.
• 26:20
  Speaker 4: It's cringey.
• 26:21
Speaker 5: Yeah. They were very they were they were very protective for them to watch me on Bachelor at the end. But it was very hard. Yeah. Yeah.
• 26:29
Speaker 3: Okay. I also wanna know, Taylor Frankie Paul is the next Bachelorette. Yeah. She's on Grandma. She's on the show Secret Lives of Mormon Wives.
• 26:37
Oh. And now they're bringing her to be The Bachelorette. And also we talked about this.
• 26:41
Speaker 4: Someone from a total Whole life. These people go from show to show.
• 26:44
Speaker 3: Well, not typically. Usually, on The Bachelor or Bachelorette, they're taking people from previous seasons of The Bachelor. Right. They're never taking someone from different Yeah.
• 26:53
Speaker 4: But is it produced by the same company?
• 26:56
Speaker 3: Hulu and ABC. Yeah.
• 26:57
  Speaker 4: It must
• 26:58
Speaker 3: be. Okay. But yeah. It's all Disney umbrella. Right.
• 27:02
  What do you
• 27:03
Speaker 5: think of that decision? Well, I think the show's definitely going in a different direction where they want more the lead to be more famous. Interesting.
• 27:13
Speaker 4: Well, that gets appealed from the audience.
• 27:15
Speaker 5: She has millions of followers, which equate to viewers.
• 27:18
  Speaker 3: Yeah. It'll be
• 27:18
Speaker 5: great for ratings. So, like, that makes sense, you know, for to keep things going different. I mean, it's hard to embrace change, but, well, I think the next lead of any Bachelor or Golden Bachelor or Bachelorette is going to be somebody more famous. Really? Yeah.
• 27:34
  I do. That's my opinion. I don't know.
• 27:36
Speaker 3: Yeah. That's just an interesting transition. I wonder I mean, they're obviously, like, looking at the analytics and things
• 27:41
Speaker 5: And that make even Mel, he was, you know, a football player, and so I think that
• 27:45
Speaker 4: They want a wider audience. Yeah.
• 27:47
Speaker 5: They want a wider audience.
• 27:48
Speaker 3: Yeah. Exactly. And she's, like, very wild and has a really, like, funny Alright.
• 27:54
  Speaker 4: She has
• 27:54
Speaker 5: three children. Okay. Different baby daddy. Yeah. Okay.
• 27:57
And she lives in Utah, and she's already said they gonna have to move to Utah, they're gonna have to well, like, my children. Right. Yeah. Okay. You know It'll be interesting.
• 28:06
Speaker 3: Yeah. Okay. Moving on with the drama club, our segment where we talk about some pop culture stuff. Another Bachelor thing I saw, they announced a new HGTV reality show. Which I love.
• 28:23
Bachelor Mansion Takeover. Yeah. It's like a spin off crossover. Yeah. Right?
• 28:30
12 Bachelor Nation contestants are going to Bachelor Mansion, but instead of dating
• 28:34
Speaker 4: They're gonna redecorate it.
• 28:36
Speaker 5: But she needs it.
• 28:38
  Speaker 4: Yeah. Alright.
• 28:39
  Speaker 5: What what
• 28:41
Speaker 3: how on a scale of zero to 10, how shitty were the accommodations?
• 28:49
  Speaker 5: Well, I can't really
• 28:49
Speaker 3: talk about Okay. The other thing I wanted to talk about is the SKIMS Bush. I don't know if you saw this. Kim Kardashian's brand SKIMS came out with a thong that has hair on it, like a bush.
• 29:02
Speaker 5: What? Kimberly. Yes. I did not see that. Yes.
• 29:05
Speaker 3: Would you guys buy a pair?
• 29:06
  Speaker 5: No. Why would I buy a don't
• 29:08
Speaker 4: buy a pair when you
• 29:08
Speaker 5: had it. If I took them off, it'd
• 29:10
Speaker 4: be the same thing. What's the purpose of it, sweetheart?
• 29:13
Speaker 3: Well, okay. I don't know if it's like a gag gift. I don't know if It means for Halloween.
• 29:18
  Speaker 4: It's maybe it's for Halloween.
• 29:19
Speaker 3: It's not. I think it's hard to tell with these things. If it's like a PR stunt that they just want people to talk about it or if people are really wearing it.
• 29:27
Speaker 4: Knowing her is some genius move on her part.
• 29:31
  Speaker 5: I know.
• 29:31
Speaker 4: She is the ultimate seller of all products.
• 29:35
  Speaker 5: I just don't under I don't get the
• 29:37
Speaker 3: reason I for think, like so Skim's also had the nipple bra a few months ago. I don't know if you saw that where it's like looked like if you got cold and your nipples were raised and then you're putting it
• 29:47
Speaker 4: Also, this is the next thing that goes with it.
• 29:49
Speaker 3: I don't know the point of recreating natural body features you
• 29:53
Speaker 5: already have. Understand that.
• 29:54
Speaker 3: Maybe, like, it's empowering because you can show it off versus hide it. Right. I mean, Grandma, you've been through every beauty trend. Like, what do you think of that hair down there making a comeback? Feel like people laugh.
• 30:07
Speaker 4: Never left. Well, I I don't think I don't think it left, but I don't think we have to show it. I mean, on
• 30:12
Speaker 5: But where would it be shown?
• 30:14
Speaker 3: Right. It'd just be maybe through mini shorts.
• 30:18
Speaker 4: No, I don't think you're supposed to be seeing it.
• 30:20
  Speaker 3: I don't know.
• 30:20
  Speaker 4: Think it's just a gag. Maybe. Maybe it's just a
• 30:23
Speaker 3: Apparently it's called a merkin, by the way, like I was researching
• 30:26
Speaker 4: in the Like a birkin? Well, Maybe you put the merkin in the birkin.
• 30:31
  Speaker 3: You could.
• 30:32
Speaker 4: Or maybe the merkin creates somebody who wants to buy you a birkin.
• 30:35
Speaker 3: No, I'm getting confused. I think
• 30:37
  Speaker 5: I understand. I know what she's saying.
• 30:39
Speaker 3: In the 1400s, that's like a thing that people did. And so I'm like, maybe it's like this medieval trend that she's bringing
• 30:46
Speaker 4: Who knows? Chastity belts in the '12 to fourteen hundreds. Nobody opened their burr thing, but whatever. You know what? I'm not putting any doubt in her corner because somehow she always creates She does.
• 31:02
That everybody wants. I haven't figured out the whole appeal yet, but I'm sure it's there.
• 31:07
  Speaker 5: Yes. Okay.
• 31:09
Speaker 3: Let's move on to the Grandma Report. An article of the week that we're gonna discuss is from New York Magazine, the cut article about women who swear by dating younger men. So would love to hear from both of you, like, what do we think the appeal of dating younger men is? Like, is it the energy, the like emotional openness, your baggage?
• 31:35
Speaker 5: It's definitely one thing. Yeah. Definitely that. I'm kidding. Definitely that.
• 31:39
Yeah. I okay. Well, when I say I'd like to date a younger man, I'm talking like 58.
• 31:47
Speaker 3: Like Right. Yeah. Not 20.
• 31:48
Speaker 5: I mean, would I date like a 45 year old? I I I mean, that's twenty years or more than that. I'm gonna be 67 actually in in a few months. So I don't I I just I mean, my son is almost 40, so I just don't feel comfortable. But would I date a 55 year old?
• 32:08
  Speaker 4: Yes.
• 32:09
  Speaker 5: Yeah. Yeah. Definitely.
• 32:10
Speaker 4: Only age old if you don't want children. If you're at a point where you're not having children and he doesn't wanna have a family, it works.
• 32:18
  Speaker 5: Yeah.
• 32:18
Speaker 4: If you have that issue, then that then there's a problem.
• 32:21
Speaker 3: I mean, the thing is when older men date younger women, no one one blinks.
• 32:26
Speaker 4: Because that's been society.
• 32:28
Speaker 5: That's just society. That's what I just It bothers me because it's like, then, you know. It's not fair.
• 32:34
Speaker 4: No. Because it's our right to do it and Why then
• 32:36
  Speaker 3: is so shocking?
• 32:37
Speaker 4: Well, it's shocking from the point of view that nobody would think that an older woman is as attractive. And that's really terrible. So we're trying to eliminate that stereotype. And there are women, who will date younger people, but for them, but it's individual, really.
• 32:55
Speaker 5: Every guy on Golden Bachelorette, a lot of them have girlfriends, and they're younger. They're all younger than them. And that's the whole thing. It's like, well, this is the problem we have. You know, I'm not ready to date an 80 year old.
• 33:11
I mean, you know, No offense,
• 33:13
Speaker 4: very ma'am. The choice you get.
• 33:16
Speaker 5: But I yeah. Things are changing.
• 33:19
Speaker 3: I'll see. You've dated or have you dated younger, even like a few years? And then did you feel like judged by anybody when that if that happened?
• 33:26
Speaker 5: I mean, my my ex husband David was three years younger. But Okay. Other than that, no. Yeah. I did not.
• 33:32
  I have not.
• 33:33
Speaker 3: Yeah. Even with some of my girlfriends who their boyfriends are a year younger, they always feel like they have to preface to me like
• 33:38
  Speaker 4: A year.
• 33:39
Speaker 3: Oh, it's like eight months. It's not actually
• 33:40
Speaker 5: Oh, I know. I'm like, what?
• 33:41
  Speaker 4: That's silly.
• 33:42
Speaker 5: I'd be like, hello. Yeah. I have a younger guy, you know?
• 33:45
Speaker 3: I think the issue too though is like in my stage, when the guys are younger, they're less ready to like Commit. Commit. Yeah. Or like move in or get married or whatever it is. So then they feel like they have to be like, but he's mature and like, but we're gonna get engaged.
• 33:59
  Yeah.
• 34:00
Speaker 4: Usually it usually a younger fellow who's dating in your, in your group, somebody who's in their mid twenties dating a 30 year old. It is, it's a little, you do feel that he's not as ready unless he's
• 34:14
Speaker 3: You very notice the gap more versus you're probably like 60. Exactly.
• 34:19
  Speaker 5: Yeah. Because
• 34:20
Speaker 4: it is a bigger gap, emotionally. They haven't reached the peak of their career.
• 34:26
Speaker 3: I honestly think it's so dependent on the Yeah. Generally. Probably. Okay. We're gonna do our Ask Grandma Anything.

Speaker 3: Where people on Instagram who follow wrote in some questions that we can all tag team and answer. So a lot of these are about like confidence, beauty, dating over 50. So the first one is at what age did you feel most confident in your skin? Grandma, do you wanna go first?
• 35:48
Speaker 4: You know, I've we've talked about this. I had wonderful grandparents and parents. So I was confident in my skin right from the time I was, I think, 16,
• 35:58
Speaker 3: 17 They were gassing
• 35:58
Speaker 4: you up. They always said, Oh, you're perfect. Don't worry about it. So I never really had any self doubt about myself.
• 36:07
Speaker 3: The least relatable thing ever.
• 36:09
Speaker 4: It's not. Well, it's really true. I think a lot with of it has to parents and your situation. And you know it was a different time. We didn't have the phone to look at each other and say, You look better than me or I look you know, it was the only Comparing yourself to your peers was not around when I was young.
• 36:28
So I think we had that advantage.
• 36:30
  Speaker 3: Leslie?
• 36:31
Speaker 5: I really feel, for me, I felt good in my own skin when I was young, and then from, like, my late twenties to my, like, mid forties, it was a tumultuous time for me with my marriages and everything. So it kinda broke me a little bit. But I and then I'd say starting fifty fifty or 55, I've I've been feeling really good. I mean, I'm in good shape. I feel like I'm I take care of myself.
• 37:07
I think better than I did before. And, yeah. So
• 37:11
  Speaker 3: That's awesome.
• 37:11
Speaker 5: That's how it was for me.
• 37:13
Speaker 3: I I honestly don't even know how to answer this, like, for myself. I feel confident in my own skin, but, like, not every hour of the day, not every day of the week. You're more
• 37:24
Speaker 4: confident now than you were when you were in college?
• 37:27
Speaker 3: You think so? Yeah. Maybe I need a third party, except that's not confident of me to say.
• 37:30
  Speaker 5: Feel like No. I can't.
• 37:31
Speaker 3: I need someone else to tell me.
• 37:33
Speaker 4: As develop yourself now into a person who you are, own person, you have more confidence. I think when you're very young, for the most part, you're not sure which direction you're going. And as you get a little bit older and have a little bit of experience under your belt, you feel more confident. I think what happens for many women especially, and probably men now at this point, I'm not gonna say it's only women, when you get shot down in life, either get fired or you have a disappointment in a relationship, takes a toll your psyche. Think so.
• 38:13
We had this conversation the other day, I was at a lunch and there were a group of women all over the age of 70 and everybody went over, there were 11 of us, we went around the table, what was the best time of your lives?
• 38:25
  Speaker 3: Oh my gosh.
• 38:26
Speaker 4: And it was very interesting, the different, well it was very deep, think we had
• 38:30
Speaker 3: told Usually you're like, what are you
• 38:32
Speaker 4: When are you having Botox? Yeah, exactly. But this was basically a very interesting conversation. And most of them felt the high point of their lives was when they were Well, these girls especially, were in their late 20s, early 30s, and their children were of a certain young age, not adolescence yet. They were like from the age of six to 10.
• 38:53
They were most secure in their, I guess, their relationships, they were still felt very sexual.
• 38:59
  Speaker 5: Yeah.
• 38:59
Speaker 4: And that their families were going in the right direction. Then, you know, as you get older, the kids change. Yeah. Have issues with your You know, you go through So different I but it was very almost to every single one of them, that was the age they liked.
• 39:12
Speaker 3: Can I go deeper on this for a second? Sure. I feel that maybe with a lot of your friends, if their primary, like, career, let's say, what is raising their kids They all like, right.
• 39:25
Speaker 4: Very few of them had full
• 39:26
  Speaker 5: time.
• 39:26
Speaker 3: Of course, that's when they're going to feel the most fulfilled and confident because they're fulfilling their
• 39:31
Speaker 4: Theirselves. Like, was there with
• 39:32
Speaker 3: them. If you have lots of things, other factors or if your main thing in life is like your career or whatever it is, like, maybe that's when that kind of person would be the most. Of course. So, like, yes, in that circle, like, I'm sure that's
• 39:46
  Speaker 5: what the We
• 39:47
Speaker 4: answer had a couple of professional women.
• 39:48
Speaker 3: And they still said the same thing.
• 39:49
Speaker 4: Well, they didn't say the same thing because they didn't have in this case, they didn't have children.
• 39:54
  Speaker 3: Okay.
• 39:54
Speaker 4: But but, so it wasn't they really participated that they thought their twenties were great. But you know, they I think you're absolutely right. When I was a young person, really, you know, going through, I mean, would never have thought of having a career. My career was my family. So that has changed for the better for most women, but in other areas it's not so good.
• 40:17
I mean, the strength of the family kept the country great and there's nobody, sometimes there's an absentee family now. And so I'm not so sure everything women have accomplished, and we have accomplished a lot, has added to family life. I think it's added to individual life that you feel more fulfilled as a woman, not necessarily as a mother and not necessarily as partner. I think we've gained some and we've lost some. So I think it's a dual sword, honey.
• 40:51
And we're not gonna figure this out. We're definitely not No. Gonna be in this
• 40:57
Speaker 3: next question. What is your skincare routine? Grandma's skin is glowing, but I wanna hear from both of you.
• 41:05
Speaker 4: Grandma's skin isn't glowing right now, but all right.
• 41:07
  Speaker 3: Really great.
• 41:07
Speaker 4: Let's hear from Leslie.
• 41:09
  Speaker 5: Okay.
• 41:11
Speaker 4: I because her skin is glowing.
• 41:12
Speaker 5: Thank you. It's so funny because up until I was about 55, I did nothing. I literally washed my face in the shower. Yeah. You know, like, I just I don't know.
• 41:26
I've always just I I don't wear a lot of makeup. I just didn't. And then I got introduced to Rodan and Fields skincare, and I don't use that now, but I'm just saying that got me into a routine. And I felt like I saw a change in my skin. So now I'm you know, I mean, of course, I do Botox and I've had one laser last April that seemed like it made it, you know, I've never done that.
• 41:54
That was kind of helpful with the skin, but I just really am very regimented now. Yeah. And whatever brand I use, I just use I'm using revision right now, but I, you know, I do the steps and I do the serum and, you know, I do it all. Yeah. Grandma.
• 42:15
Speaker 4: You know mine is Dove soap.
• 42:16
Speaker 5: Love just Dove soap. See?
• 42:18
  Speaker 3: I was
• 42:19
Speaker 4: right Dove all those soap.
• 42:22
  Speaker 5: Dove soap.
• 42:22
Speaker 4: I should They should pay me 90 zillion dollars because people ask me all the time and I say it's strictly Dove soap.
• 42:29
Speaker 3: But also sometimes, especially when we're
• 42:31
Speaker 4: Well, I use the Estee Lauder.
• 42:32
  Speaker 3: Estee Lauder.
• 42:33
Speaker 4: I don't use Estee Lauder, but I've used Estee Lauder for thirty years, the same products. The same color, the same products. And now I'm still Elizabeth Arden used to be Elizabeth Arden, the little capsules. I like that because they make your skin very smooth.
• 42:46
Speaker 5: I cannot. My grandmother just used Ponds cold cream. Must have
• 42:50
Speaker 4: it's been my just Exactly. But they also didn't sit in the sun. Well, my, problem was that when I was young, I sat with a reflector and the baby oil at the beach and love being tanned. And now I'm full of spots. And, and also you have to watch because there's so many terrible That's why I say you never go in the sun.
• 43:11
Speaker 5: And I love the sun still. I mean, it's just very hard for But me not to be in the my daughter, she's as white as that table. Like, She doesn't go in the sun at all. My It's crazy. And she hates it.
• 43:23
Loves sweater weather. She goes, Oh, finally, my season's here.
• 43:26
Speaker 3: A little bit of sun is okay. Like, you're protected. Like, wear sunscreen.
• 43:30
Speaker 5: I told her. I said, Chloe, you need a little vitamin D in your life.
• 43:33
Speaker 4: Your great grandmother never went in the sun. She had the most beautiful skin to this. She died at 90 and her skin was perfect.
• 43:39
Speaker 5: My grandmother never went in
• 43:40
Speaker 4: the sun. They never went in the sun. They protected their skin. And you know what?
• 43:44
Speaker 3: When there's less information about the negative
• 43:47
Speaker 5: Right. Impact That of the for sure. We didn't know. We didn't have sunscreen. Didn't have any of the things.
• 43:54
We didn't even have hats. I mean, didn't
• 43:56
Speaker 4: when wear you're when you're little now, those flat happies or whatever they're called. But they're right. They're right because you have to protect this beautiful skin you have. The rays getting worse. We know that for a fact, for whatever reason.
• 44:12
  So you have to protect.
• 44:13
Speaker 5: It's called global warming. What do you use? I'd love to know.
• 44:17
Speaker 3: So I actually was someone who, like, really didn't have a skincare routine up until
• 44:23
Speaker 4: Probably. All the brands can't I was gonna say,
• 44:26
Speaker 3: gift getting gifting and stuff and wanting to try a lot of those products. And I have seen a difference because, I don't know, I get more, like, compliments now or even just like when I'm I'm constantly filming myself and I'm like, okay, my skin does look better. But I think it did there was like a time during COVID where I started to break out more and I went to the dermatologist and she was like, you can't just do soap. So now I have a wash and a, like, acne cream that I use no matter what. Yeah.
• 44:52
And then I add in a lot of those, like, serums and things
• 44:54
Speaker 5: like that. But your skin is gorgeous.
• 44:56
Speaker 3: Thank you. Yeah. Also makeup, like,
• 44:58
Speaker 4: Yeah. Very little makeup.
• 45:00
Speaker 5: Yeah. Like But then my cake stuff
• 45:02
  Speaker 4: does add light.
• 45:03
Speaker 3: Yeah. And a lot of products that we use, which we can link on our storefront if people are curious, like on LTK and on Amazon. But like they have skincare elements like in a lot of the makeup that I use. So that probably makes a difference.
• 45:16
Speaker 5: I love the tinted moisturizer with the sunscreen in it. Well, that is
• 45:20
Speaker 3: Bare Minerals has a really good one.
• 45:22
Speaker 4: La Roche Posay, remember it was one of our first brands that backed us years and years ago. Have great skincare. They have great skincare. There are lots of them, mean, but everybody's got some. I think most of the makeups have
• 45:37
  Speaker 3: some
• 45:37
Speaker 4: kind I love Laura Geller.
• 45:40
Speaker 5: I love her. We became friends last time. She's the best. And she sent a lot of the girls from the Golden Bachelor stuff. I got a box like this.
• 45:51
I still haven't gone through it. But every time I take something out, I'm like, Oh my God, love this. I love this. And I had coffee with We had coffee with her last year. And she's the best.
• 46:01
I'm like, Laura, I literally love your makeup so much.
• 46:05
Speaker 4: She used to be on Lexington Avenue when I was, you know, I'm talking about fifty years ago. That was her first place, and you'd go in there and she would somehow That was before she created this tremendous line. She had a smaller line, and she's always been lovely. She's she's just
• 46:21
Speaker 5: a She's lovely a I mean, we had coffee with her. She wanted to know everything about the She loved us. And I said, she's
• 46:28
Speaker 4: charitable to all your causes. She's
• 46:30
Speaker 5: very charitable. I, I, unfortunately she's out of town this week that I'm here. Otherwise, you know, I'd see her. But Yeah.
• 46:37
Speaker 3: Well, I'll do a ladies lunch. That would be so fun.
• 46:39
  Speaker 5: Next to
• 46:40
  Speaker 3: your bath.
• 46:40
  Speaker 5: Yes. Definitely. Okay.
• 46:42
Speaker 3: I'll do one more. What was the best part of your fifties? I turned 50 in a few weeks.
• 46:48
Speaker 4: Oh, I don't know what was the best part of my fifties. I guess maybe I was becoming I was an empty nester. And I then developed, your grandpa and I had to do things more together versus the kids because they were all either in college or I think your mom was married already. So I would say that it was a different time, it was a time for us versus the family unit. Even though the family was always first, we had more me time.
• 47:21
I had to start playing golf, which really was not So my developed favorite some hobbies? Hobbies that we could do together. Because he liked to do that but then I Travel? Well, always travel.
• 47:33
  Speaker 3: Yeah,
• 47:33
Speaker 4: true. We always travel no matter when and I love to travel. Now it's harder for me to travel and I'm liking it less because it's not very pleasant out there. Out where? In all these places, everywhere.
• 47:46
Speaker 5: Yeah, I agree. Airports, airplanes.
• 47:48
Speaker 4: It's not even that, you don't feel it's special in a lot of these places. The crowds are tremendous. I was laughing, I don't know, a couple of months ago Venice wanted to rule out tourists. If they don't have tourists, who's gonna go Venice? I mean, you know, I sometimes wonder where do they come up with these ideas?
• 48:09
Speaker 3: Yeah, it's because like the pollution, all the issues
• 48:11
Speaker 4: that they're having. Exactly. But what can you do if you don't have that? The whole economic system goes down.
• 48:18
Speaker 3: Then the Venetians are gonna leave and then it's not gonna be special.
• 48:21
Speaker 4: Exactly. So it's a whole thing. We can't figure out There's another problem.
• 48:24
  Speaker 5: That's a whole another show.
• 48:25
Speaker 4: Another whole other show.
• 48:26
Speaker 5: Vegas used to be so glamorous. People would dress up. Now they're wearing flip flops to the shows. Exactly. Yeah.
• 48:33
Speaker 3: No. Favorite part about your fifties?
• 48:36
Speaker 5: I feel like I actually I've been in really good shape my whole life because I was a figure skater and all that stuff and then, you know, teaching aerobics. But in my fifties, because I had more time, my kids were Yeah. Obviously older, a half out, a hat one in. But I had more time to instead of just teaching class, I had more time to really work on my fitness and my health. And I felt like I was getting, like, you know, me back.
• 49:03
Because you were just so busy with your kids, and I was a single mom, and that was hard. Yeah. So I kinda liked I'm like, okay, I got one almost out. Now we're Mhmm. You know, it's about me now.
• 49:17
  Yeah. Yeah.
• 49:19
Speaker 3: Okay. We're gonna finish the episode with Grandma Gail's old fashioned dating quiz. So we'll see, Leslie, if you're more of like a modern dater or traditional. Okay. Okay.
• 49:31
So the first one is, would you rather receive a call or a text if it's just to say hi?
• 49:37
Speaker 5: I'd rather receive a I kind of like a text because sometimes I just don't wanna talk. So fair.
• 49:46
Speaker 3: I feel that. Would you sleep with someone on
• 49:49
Speaker 5: the first date? Not anymore. Dating
• 49:53
Speaker 3: apps or setups? Setups. Would you move in together before getting engaged or wait until you're engaged married to to live together?
• 50:03
Speaker 5: No moving in together for well, I don't really wanna get married again. But if I did, I would probably wait. Okay. Yeah.
• 50:13
Speaker 3: Do you think one person should pay for the date or should you split alternate? I think one person should be paying
• 50:20
Speaker 5: Yeah. The guy. The date.
• 50:22
  Speaker 3: Okay.
• 50:22
Speaker 5: I mean, I know that's not the most popular idea.
• 50:25
Speaker 3: But it's like chivalrous and
• 50:27
Speaker 5: You know. I agree. But I bring other things to the table. Right. Like, I can get tickets to anything.
• 50:32
My son works for Live Nation. I can see any concert, any baseball, basketball game. And you treat them with And I love to cook, and so I I feel like I bring other things to the table.
• 50:41
Speaker 3: Yeah. Great answer. Would you post the person on social media or keep them off? I would not at
• 50:48
Speaker 5: first. Mhmm. No. It'd be it'd be a long time.
• 50:51
Speaker 3: You'd have to be, like, very official.
• 50:52
Speaker 5: Very official. Yeah. Yep. Mhmm.
• 50:54
Speaker 3: Okay. Traditional. I think more traditional.
• 50:57
Speaker 4: Absolutely, not more. Absolutely. She only had one, the texting was her
• 51:00
  Speaker 5: only
• 51:00
  Speaker 3: thing Yeah, getting
• 51:01
Speaker 5: and normally I would say calls, but I'm just, now I'm kind of busy. Yeah, so I
• 51:07
Speaker 4: think Leslie is showing her maturity in her answers. You're just a few answers. Like the answers because I think those are the answers I would give as well. But I think as you get older, you think things through a little more.
• 51:23
Speaker 5: And that's why I'm like, if that person that I just gave you, if that guy's out there, great. If not Not? Fine. Fine. I cook for myself.
• 51:30
Exactly. I take myself to concerts Yeah. With my friends.
• 51:33
Speaker 3: Any concerts you're going to soon that you're excited about?
• 51:37
Speaker 5: Yes. I actually on Friday, I land and I go to Paul McCartney.
• 51:41
  Speaker 3: Fun.
• 51:41
Speaker 5: Yeah. I've seen him before in LA, and I I love him. Mhmm. I was I was in LA, and I took my producer from the show to Tate McCray. Fun.
• 51:49
She's fabulous. And she's you know, I've been following her with her dancing. Yeah. You know, because I dance, like so she's, like, my fave. And she she was actually a really huge fan of mine.
• 52:01
And she told my son after the show, because she was dating Kid Leroy, who my son was managing a little bit. Oh my god. I love your mom, and I wanna meet her, and it I That's
• 52:13
  Speaker 3: such a flex.
• 52:13
Speaker 5: I know. Huge. So that was kind of cool. Plus, I just love her.
• 52:17
  Speaker 3: Yeah.
• 52:18
