- 0:14royalty. Adam Cox.
- 0:16These recordings took place live from Adam's clinic in London's
- 0:19world famous Harley Street. This podcast features powerful
- 0:23hypnosis, so do not listen while driving or operating machinery.
- 0:27This recording is not suitable for those with epilepsy or
- 0:30severe mental health issues, so get yourself comfortable and
- 0:34enjoy today's episode of The Hypnotist.
- 0:40Hi. It's Adam here, and in today's
- 0:43episode of The Hypnotist, you're going to be listening to a
- 0:46hypnosis session created for a client was also working in
- 0:50mental health. They were a counselling
- 0:52psychologist and felt that they should be more motivated, more
- 1:00passionate, more enthusiastic about their work than they
- 1:03actually were. And what was really fascinating
- 1:07about this particular client is that a lot of the evidence
- 1:12around them was that they were great at their work, having a
- 1:16good impact, but there was this, what if?
- 1:19What if I'm not doing enough? What if I'm not helping?
- 1:22What if I should be doing more? And that was actually dampening
- 1:25their enthusiasm. The reason they became a
- 1:29psychologist was because they wanted to have an impact and
- 1:32help people. But the nature of doing therapy
- 1:37quite often is that you don't actually get to see the results
- 1:41of what you do. You know, it's happening in the
- 1:43lives of the client that you're working with.
- 1:46So this was causing a cycle of ever decreasing levels of
- 1:52enthusiasm and passion, leading them to even question whether
- 1:56they should be doing that. So what you're going to hear in
- 1:59this hypnosis session is an element of activating the
- 2:03resource states that they needed most, enthusiasm, passion,
- 2:07determination, motivation, and releasing the doubts and
- 2:12insecurities that they weren't doing enough.
- 2:17And it also uses elements of time.
- 2:19And using elements of time is one of my favorite things to
- 2:22play with because they could recall a time in their past
- 2:25where they were really passionate and enthusiastic.
- 2:27So we. Go back to that moment,
- 2:29rekindle, reactivate those resource states, and then
- 2:33consider three different futures.
- 2:36A future where they continue but don't really feel passionate
- 2:41about what they do and giving it the meaning that they're doing
- 2:45an injustice to their clients, their patients.
- 2:49The second timeline is. To.
- 2:50Quit and do something else. And then that future paces this
- 2:54idea of how many people could they have helped but didn't.
- 2:59And and that inverse is this idea of not doing enough.
- 3:04It's kind of like, well, if you did nothing, then how many
- 3:07people would, how many people's lives would be worse off?
- 3:10And then the third timeline, which is obviously the most
- 3:12desirable timeline, is to activate feelings of motivation,
- 3:17passion, enthusiasm for the work that they do and feel and
- 3:21believe that they're making an impact, which then gives them
- 3:24even more motivation. And I could really resonate with
- 3:28this because one of the key things that keeps my enthusiasm
- 3:31and motivation so high for therapy.
- 3:35Is 2 key. Things 1A belief that I'm
- 3:37actually doing something that the world wants and I would say
- 3:41the audience numbers of my podcast give me that evidence
- 3:46and getting messages either from listeners or clients as.
- 3:51To the. Impact of my work that does
- 3:53that, so when it's really feeling I'm making a difference.
- 3:57But also the second key thing is I have the benchmark so low.
- 4:02When I actually became a therapist that had a podcast, I
- 4:08had this ultra low metric. And that is, if I could just
- 4:12help one person, then it's all worthwhile.
- 4:18And by having the metric so low, it means that any evidence that
- 4:23I'm doing it for more than one feels like I'm exceeding my own
- 4:28expectations. And there's a phrase that I use
- 4:31a lot and that is to make the game winnable.
- 4:34And a lot of people, whether it's kind of, they call it
- 4:38perfectionism, they frame it that if they could have done
- 4:42slightly more than they didn't do enough.
- 4:44And that is not true. But by framing it that way
- 4:48actually dampens and even strangles the very motivation
- 4:54needed to do the very thing that they would want to do.
- 4:58So this session is all about activating passion and
- 5:01enthusiasm, particularly in their industry to help people.
- 5:06But I would say this session would be helpful for anyone that
- 5:09wants to feel more passionate about what they do because.
- 5:13Whatever you do. The way that society is
- 5:16structured is that you get valued for having some kind of
- 5:23impact in some way. You know, if you create art,
- 5:28you're enriching the lives of other people.
- 5:30If you, let's say, help people get mortgages, you're giving
- 5:36people financial freedom or the ability to have their own home
- 5:42and not be the victim of ever increasing rents.
- 5:45Like whatever you do has a positive impact.
- 5:48So I would encourage you because this session was created for
- 5:50someone in the world of psychology and therapy, I would
- 5:53encourage you to think of what would it take for you to be
- 5:56really, really passionate about what you do and then consider
- 6:00these timelines. And it may be that actually you
- 6:03are better off doing something else that you're actually
- 6:06passionate about rather than doing something that you're not.
- 6:10But equally, it's possible that you could get passionate about
- 6:13what you're already doing. And these are the things to
- 6:16think about in this session so that you make it super relevant
- 6:20for you. This was created for a
- 6:25psychologist and therefore in order to get the best of this,
- 6:29make it relevant for you. But if you do feel like a
- 6:32bespoke session may be helpful for you, then there is the
- 6:36option to click a link in the show notes or visit my website
- 6:39adamcox.co.uk. Schedule a free consultation
- 6:42call with me over Zoom and we can explore working together.
- 6:45For now though, find a quiet, comfortable place where you
- 6:48won't be disturbed. Relax and enjoy the session.
- 7:20Take a deep breath in and as you breathe in, breathe in a feeling
- 7:31of calmness and as you exhale, release any feelings of tension.
- 7:45And as you breathe in and breathe out, just allow your
- 7:52body to do the breathing for you.
- 7:56Don't will it force it, but equally don't stop it.
- 8:07And if your body wants to breathe deeper, allow it.
- 8:14And if your body wants to breathe slower and longer, allow
- 8:19it. And perhaps imagine that you're
- 8:22breathing in a wonderful feeling of resourcefulness and you know
- 8:33the. Resources that.
- 8:34Would be most useful. And while relaxation is a
- 8:40resource, so is passion, enthusiasm, motivation.
- 8:53So as you breathe in, imagine breathing in whatever resources
- 8:56you want most and exhaling the opposite and maybe the opposite
- 9:11of passion. And enthusiasm isn't negativity,
- 9:17it's apathy. Allow whatever is holding you
- 9:23back to be released and to feel it Leave your body as you
- 9:30exhale. I want you to get a sense that
- 9:40there's certain things that you hold to be true and you don't
- 9:45need evidence to believe them. You believe that the sun will
- 9:56rise tomorrow, even if you don't see the sunrise, and you may
- 10:07believe you have a good friendship even if you haven't
- 10:11spoken to that friend for a while.
- 10:17And for many of your beliefs, you will believe them unless
- 10:24there is a good reason not to believe them.
- 10:32So as you breathe in and breathe out, just allow yourself to
- 10:37believe that what you do is important, what you do is
- 10:46necessary, and what you do as a positive impact on other people.
- 10:59And as you believe that, allow the opposite beliefs to fade
- 11:07away. Because they were never beliefs,
- 11:11they were just doubts and insecurities.
- 11:16So allow them to melt away as you feel that you're becoming
- 11:20deeper and deeper, relaxed with every breath you take.
- 11:31You feel your body becoming more relaxed and maybe you notice how
- 11:37your shoulders feel lighter. Your jaw.
- 11:42Releasing any tension. Maybe your eyelids feel heavier.
- 11:52Maybe there is a tingling sensation, perhaps in a finger,
- 11:59a toe or somewhere else. Allow your attention to drift
- 12:06inwards as you feel the rhythm of your breath as it naturally
- 12:14slows, guiding you deeper and deeper into a wonderful state of
- 12:22calm relaxation. And with each exhale, imagine
- 12:31those doubts not just melting away, but as they melt away,
- 12:37leaving your body. They're not in you anymore, and
- 12:46as they leave, your body feel calmer, your mind lighter.
- 12:53And as you continue to relax, I want you to use the power of
- 12:58your imagination to imagine a long path in nature.
- 13:08Could be a trail, a footpath, and imagine yourself standing by
- 13:17the edge of that path, seeing the path go to your left and
- 13:23then go to the right as you start to imagine that this is a
- 13:29path that represents time. To your left is your past, and
- 13:38to your right is your future. So let's go backwards on the
- 13:46path first. And as you step onto the path,
- 13:55allow yourself to float and allow your mind to take you back
- 14:01to a moment when you felt most enthusiastic, most motivated,
- 14:11passionate, or committed about helping others.
- 14:19Maybe it was a specific client you were working with, maybe a
- 14:24friend that needed help, or maybe learning something new.
- 14:31Maybe it was a time when you were first inspired to do what
- 14:37you now do, or a moment where you felt deeply connected to the
- 14:43impact of your work. That time you really felt you
- 14:48did make a difference. Just trust your unconscious mind
- 14:57to guide you to the exact moment.
- 15:00And when you're there, let me know by nodding your head and
- 15:08feel like you're now stepping into that memory and notice what
- 15:13you see, hear and feel in this moment, where you were, what you
- 15:22were doing. Who else is around you?
- 15:27And maybe you can feel that enthusiasm, that inspiration,
- 15:35that motivation reawakening, amplifying.
- 15:46Maybe you can feel a sense of purpose, mission, or excitement.
- 15:52Maybe there was a time where something clicked when you said
- 15:59to yourself, this is what I want to do.
- 16:02This is what I am meant to do and just allow those positive
- 16:08feelings to grow stronger and brighter.
- 16:12Amplify them all and notice where in your body you feel that
- 16:17feeling of passion or enthusiasm and either point to it or just
- 16:22make a mental note of where it is.
- 16:29Picture a colour in that location and make the colour
- 16:34brighter. Notice if the colour is moving,
- 16:37and if it is, make it move even more.
- 16:41If it spins, rotates, pulsates. Increase the frequency as you
- 16:48feel that emotion becoming more intense.
- 16:56And maybe it's linked to an idea or a thought, a belief.
- 17:02I can help people, I can change someone's life, I can make a
- 17:12difference. When you find the idea or
- 17:18thought connected to that feeling, dial up the volume of
- 17:23that inner dialogue and say it with absolute certainty, just
- 17:27yourself. And when you've done that, let
- 17:32me know about nodding your head. That's it.
- 17:35And if this is the past, let's take those feelings, but go
- 17:45forwards on the path now where that pathway seems to split into
- 17:52three different new pathways. Perhaps it looks like a
- 17:58crossroads, or maybe they just split off like a tree branch
- 18:03going into three different directions.
- 18:09And let's explore one of those futures first.
- 18:15Imagine a future where you continue in your role, but maybe
- 18:20feel disengaged or unmotivated. Feelings of doubts or apathy.
- 18:30But observe this version of you see what happens if this
- 18:36timeline continues. Maybe see a future where?
- 18:45Your lack of. Enthusiasm gets read by a client
- 18:49or a patient, and they become disengaged, reading from your
- 18:56unconscious cues. Maybe there's one client that
- 19:03could have opened up and never does, a client that you could
- 19:07have impacted but don't quite do it.
- 19:12Follow that timeline and in that timeline see that you were doing
- 19:23an injustice to yourself and your clients.
- 19:32I want you to get a sense that there might be emotions
- 19:36connected to that future. Regret, monotony, that feeling
- 19:48of being on a hamster wheel, just going through the motions.
- 19:55See what you see, notice what you notice, and notice that that
- 20:00version of you isn't as happy as you could be.
- 20:06And if this unlocks a desire to change that, let me know by
- 20:09nodding your head. That's in.
- 20:13So go back to where the pathways splits into three and let's
- 20:17follow another pathway. A pathway where you decide if
- 20:24you can't be passionate and enthusiastic, you don't want
- 20:28that. And see yourself quitting that
- 20:33career, that profession, and doing something new and see what
- 20:42the actual consequences of that kind of decision would have.
- 20:48Maybe it gives your life less flexibility.
- 20:54Maybe there's less income, maybe that's also not fulfilling, but
- 21:00just in a different way. Follow that timeline and maybe
- 21:10it's simpler, easier, you feel more competent doing it.
- 21:17But also maybe notice it's not quite as rewarding, not quite as
- 21:23stimulating. Less things to learn and get
- 21:26better at. And imagine getting to the end
- 21:31of that timeline, taken to a waiting room, and being shown
- 21:42thousands of people you could have helped but didn't.
- 21:48Lives that became worse because you weren't there to make a
- 21:51difference. Maybe see or hear stories of
- 21:58tragedies, hopelessness, and maybe you start to think if you
- 22:07can stop just one of those tragedies from happening, that's
- 22:12enough. You don't have to change every
- 22:17single person, but if you can make a difference to just one or
- 22:23two or three extra lives, whether you knew about it or
- 22:29not, there's a part of you that wants to make that difference.
- 22:36Let me know by nodding your head.
- 22:40So go back to that path where it splits into three and see that
- 22:45there is 1/3 path seems to be glowing in this pathway.
- 22:52There's a pathway that you see yourself absolutely certain
- 23:01you're making a difference. See that future where you have
- 23:09enthusiasm. The challenging clients are an
- 23:14opportunity to learn. Clients or patients,
- 23:21particularly younger ones that are disengaged is an opportunity
- 23:25to hone your rapport building skills.
- 23:32See that version of you where you're taking your qualities
- 23:35like empathy, consideration, kindness, and infusing it into
- 23:43what you do, not separating it. That when things go well, you
- 23:52get the wins and when things don't, you get the wisdom.
- 24:00See that version of you where as the weeks and months go by,
- 24:05you're getting better and better because you're going all in.
- 24:15You're putting yourself into the role, not simply doing the role.
- 24:20It becomes a part of your identity and your destiny.
- 24:26This is your purpose, a mission to help, to impact.
- 24:36And you come to a conclusion that if you have a life changing
- 24:43impact, someone in their 60s, it affects the next 20-30, forty
- 24:49years of their life. But if you have an impact in a
- 24:54child, a teenager, or a young adult, that could ripple through
- 25:00their life forever, even impacting future generations.
- 25:13See yourself embracing your role, stimulated by it.
- 25:20See yourself brimming with enthusiasm and passion.
- 25:30Maybe you recognise that every session, every interaction is an
- 25:33opportunity to create positive change.
- 25:41And maybe in this future, you've learned to see the absence of
- 25:45negative feedback as positive feedback, knowing that your
- 25:54client's return is a sign of the value you bring and step into
- 26:03that future timeline. Even the most challenging or
- 26:08disengaged of clients feels appealing to you.
- 26:15And maybe you can imagine waking up feeling motivated, inspired,
- 26:21and confident in your ability to make a difference.
- 26:29So take this future for a test drive.
- 26:32Imagine living that way. And if it feels desirable and
- 26:40possible for you, let me know about nodding your head.
- 26:47And as you stand in this future, notice how your enthusiasm grows
- 26:53like a snowball effect. The more passionate and engaged
- 26:57you are, the more impactful your work becomes, and then the more
- 27:02satisfied you feel, which leads to even more motivation and
- 27:07enthusiasm. I want you to imagine a moment
- 27:18in the future, perhaps one to three years from now, working
- 27:24with a particular child, withdrawn, disengaged, anxious,
- 27:30hesitant. And imagine seeing yourself
- 27:36making them feel so comfortable that they open up, they share
- 27:41something they weren't willing to share.
- 27:45And with that, you're able to help them make one significant
- 27:53change that changes their life forever.
- 28:00Maybe see yourself breaking a cycle.
- 28:07See yourself having the most wonderful impact and see how it
- 28:13lights you up. Making a difference to others,
- 28:17makes you feel energized. See yourself thriving, becoming
- 28:24more skilled, effective, creating a cycle of positivity
- 28:29and success. As you feel the energy, the
- 28:33motivation and the deep sense of fulfilment radiating through
- 28:39you, feel it there in your chest.
- 28:42This is your future, and it's one you can choose to step into
- 28:47fully by just deciding you don't want anything else but that.
- 28:53And when you come to that conclusion, let me know by
- 28:56nodding your head to take all those learnings, insights, and
- 29:04positive emotions from this journey and feel that that
- 29:09sensation there in that location isn't temporary.
- 29:15You've just reawakened it. It's always there, you only have
- 29:18to look. I want you to see as you fully
- 29:28commit to that third future, the other two pathways disappear.
- 29:33There is only one future now, a future of passion, impact and
- 29:42fulfilment. And why would you want anything
- 29:46else? And feel.
- 29:50Like you're already stepping on that path, that new path, the
- 29:53only path as you start to return your attention to the present.
- 30:01So take a deep breath in through your nose and out through your
- 30:06nose. Just wiggle your fingers and
- 30:08wiggle your toes. Connect fully with the here and
- 30:10now as I now count from 1:00 to 10:00 to awaken you.
- 30:16You will awaken feeling invigorated, enthusiastic,
- 30:25determined to live this purposeful life.
- 30:31Starting to count. 123 Waking up 456 More alert. 7-8 Open your
- 30:39eyes. Open your eyes. 910 Wide awake,
