- 2:19[SPEAKER_00]: I'll be on the television broadcast of the preseason games with Tim Ryan and Vernon Glenn starting on Thursday
- 2:26[SPEAKER_00]: And, you know, and then, you know, three weeks where wheels up, I'll spend the week in Australia with the team before that game and be with the 40 matters every week all year long.
- 2:34[SPEAKER_00]: So I'm looking forward to a fun year.
- 2:38[SPEAKER_00]: And here we go.
- 2:39[SPEAKER_00]: Okay, this is very exciting.
- 2:41[SPEAKER_00]: Two guests who combined for 50 years of 49ers coverage.
- 2:45[SPEAKER_00]: It's just about.
- 2:46[SPEAKER_02]: You did that math at the top of your head.
- 2:48[SPEAKER_00]: Well, 20, you would you say 27th here?
- 2:51[SPEAKER_00]: 27th here and 30 second year?
- 2:54[SPEAKER_00]: 30 second season.
- 2:55[SPEAKER_02]: That's almost 60 years.
- 2:56[SPEAKER_02]: And now, 10 year math.
- 2:57[SPEAKER_02]: 60.
- 2:57[SPEAKER_02]: Wow.
- 2:58[SPEAKER_01]: Well, I did the math off the top of my head.
- 3:00[SPEAKER_01]: You know, the easiest way to remember maths is just how long has it been since the Niners won a silver wall.
- 3:04[SPEAKER_02]: And that's what it's going on.
- 3:05[SPEAKER_00]: You came the next year.
- 3:06[SPEAKER_00]: That is true.
- 3:07[SPEAKER_02]: Well, you know, I will say I was covering the team 92.93.94, but it was only home games.
- 3:14[SPEAKER_02]: It was once a week, I was doing other things.
- 3:16[SPEAKER_02]: Cam and I, we worked our way up.
- 3:18[SPEAKER_02]: We were covering prep sports.
- 3:21[SPEAKER_02]: And then that Super Bowl was kind of a disappointment.
- 3:23[SPEAKER_02]: Because I wasn't sent with the, I was at the Oakland Tribune.
- 3:26[SPEAKER_02]: I wasn't sent to that Super Bowl.
- 3:28[SPEAKER_02]: So, but you're around only job.
- 3:32[SPEAKER_02]: Yes, they haven't won a Super Bowl since I started.
- 3:35[SPEAKER_00]: This is why I wanted to have them on together, Caminman and Matt Mayoco, and the perspective is great.
- 3:41[SPEAKER_00]: I'm very excited to say that for the first time in the 2026 season, the show is brought to you by Plesto.
- 3:47[SPEAKER_00]: Mayoconomoderno.
- 3:48[SPEAKER_00]: And normally, I wouldn't make the guest sit for the ad, except, guests of the show, each get a $100 gift card to Plesto, mayoconomoderno.
- 3:56[SPEAKER_01]: And I've eaten at it over in Santa Clara, right?
- 3:59[SPEAKER_01]: I'll have a great America Parkway.
- 4:01[SPEAKER_01]: All right, yeah, and then I'm giggling for more than just right, you can honestly they were like the best talk I've ever had out of all part down a pet co park also.
- 4:09[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, there's a very famous a pet co If you're coming to the nine or game section C1 16 or but it was like between C1 161 17 They've got the guacamole the classic cheese nachos the tacos you can get the chicken vera day or the short rib barbecue
- 4:25[SPEAKER_00]: And then also the nachos and they have a barbecue short room nacho, which is only available at Levi's Stadium.
- 4:31[SPEAKER_00]: So if you're coming on Thursday at the Titans game, go see Puesto.
- 4:34[SPEAKER_01]: They have a bar or two, you know.
- 4:36[SPEAKER_00]: Well, the restaurant is fantastic, the restaurant's fantastic.
- 4:39[SPEAKER_00]: Conquerred, Santa Clara, Southern California.
- 4:42[SPEAKER_02]: So, this gift card is, we can use it at any of the bus or tacos.
- 4:48[SPEAKER_00]: Locations?
- 4:49[SPEAKER_00]: Okay, so I believe that's going to re...
- 4:51[SPEAKER_00]: I don't know if I can use it in the stadium.
- 4:53[SPEAKER_00]: Okay.
- 4:53[SPEAKER_01]: If you want to give it away on his team... Well, he was going to re-gift it on his YouTube channel.
- 4:56[SPEAKER_01]: That's what I think.
- 4:57[SPEAKER_01]: You thought it would be added?
- 4:59[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, I'm keeping it.
- 4:59[SPEAKER_00]: No, yeah.
- 5:00[SPEAKER_00]: Mayo goes getting too many views to just give stuff away.
- 5:02[SPEAKER_00]: He's got his own sponsors over on YouTube.
- 5:04[SPEAKER_00]: No, I don't.
- 5:05[SPEAKER_01]: But you should if you wanted to you're speaking hypothetically.
- 5:09[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I just you're doing great.
- 5:10[SPEAKER_00]: You tubes doing great over there I'm looking for an issue You better You give me a hundred dollars gift card for coming on your show.
- 5:19[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, right So the Titan's game is let's start with the preseason then we can talk about your your fun memories But first preseason game joint practice coming up on Tuesday when this will be out What matters to you this week Matt?
- 5:33[SPEAKER_02]: Well, I do think that the joint practice is more important than the preseason game, because I don't know who's going, you know, it's a controlled environment, they can kind of script things out, they can go through everything that they might not be able to get to and preseason game, like two-minute drill, all the other things that, you know, they can kind of like, hey, we need to see more of this so that coaches work together.
- 5:56[SPEAKER_02]: You know, I think it probably always comes down to like the younger guys in this year.
- 6:01[SPEAKER_02]: I think there are a lot of young guys who have legitimate chances to make the team, whereas maybe it wasn't that way last year or the year before.
- 6:11[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, I think there's some really intriguing young defensive players that kind of fit more with what Raheem Morris has brought to the team.
- 6:20[SPEAKER_02]: whereas maybe some of the carryovers aren't necessarily just handpicked for this particular defense.
- 6:27[SPEAKER_01]: I'm going to take the counterpoint to that because yes, the joint practices are like they become bigger than the pre-season games.
- 6:33[SPEAKER_01]: I just, I don't know if there's going to be that much different between the joint practice and the pre-season game now, because on offense essentially it's not young.
- 6:40[SPEAKER_01]: It's an older, the whole storyline line up essentially old, right?
- 6:43[SPEAKER_01]: It's outside of figuring out if Robert Jones is going to be your left guard.
- 6:47[SPEAKER_01]: If Sean Strittling and Rookie is going to be one of the top two or three wide receivers.
- 6:52[SPEAKER_01]: To me, those are the offensive competitions, besides the backup stuff.
- 6:56[SPEAKER_01]: Defensively, I think the most curious thing I got to see on defense is the secondary, and I think that can play out in practice and in games because I think is Jack Jones Does the illegitimate shot at taking Renardo Green's job at corner back who are gonna be the city?
- 7:11[SPEAKER_01]: Are you stuck essentially with Seagull and Brown as you're starting to safety's or could some, but I'm like even today at practice.
- 7:18[SPEAKER_01]: I just don't see any pass rush with this team and it like they had 20 sacks last season and
- 7:23[SPEAKER_01]: I know Boses, well he hasn't been there for a week, but he's supposed to come back and help.
- 7:27[SPEAKER_01]: My Cal Williams will essentially be eventually be back key on white, probably he will be back, but it's right right now it's like, that's not looking great.
- 7:34[SPEAKER_02]: No, I totally agree.
- 7:35[SPEAKER_02]: I don't think they have the personnel of the rounds or the C-Ox for sure.
- 7:41[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, those two teams are built with their defensive lines.
- 7:44[SPEAKER_02]: The 49ers aren't.
- 7:45[SPEAKER_02]: But I'd say what they've done is they're going to try to scheme it up and going to this five-down line really puts a lot of pressure on the opposing offense and the offensive line in particular to figure out which guys are coming and which guys are dropping.
- 8:04[SPEAKER_02]: So they can try to kind of muddy things up a little bit defensively because I don't think they have the firepower upfront to just win one-on-one battles.
- 8:13[SPEAKER_00]: It's the concern would be if the players were talking like last year, the scheme was too complicated.
- 8:18[SPEAKER_00]: This year, you're going to win with scheme instead of talent.
- 8:21[SPEAKER_01]: I think it's just like that the scheme is more unpredictable and there's going to be more variety, which will be more fun to watch.
- 8:27[SPEAKER_01]: There should be the campy last place where barely any plays they made on defense last year.
- 8:31[SPEAKER_01]: Unlike the joint practice on Tuesday come Thursday they're going to see live tackling.
- 8:36[SPEAKER_01]: And this is going to be, who's going to jump out?
- 8:38[SPEAKER_01]: Do you like Malik Mustafa did in Tennessee right two years ago when they're in preseason?
- 8:42[SPEAKER_01]: That could be fascinating to see like, is Nick Martin not going to overrun plays now?
- 8:46[SPEAKER_01]: At lineback or be able to make a play is Jayden Digger going to be like an ex-factor?
- 8:50[SPEAKER_01]: That can be like, that can help a past rush that needs a fifth guy to get through.
- 8:55[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, those are kind of the guys that I was thinking about like Doughern particular.
- 8:59[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, really, you know, he's he's got the tools and now there's a spot form.
- 9:07[SPEAKER_02]: When they drafted him, I didn't like, okay, how does he fit?
- 9:10[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, he can be a KJ right kind of guy.
- 9:12[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, he's kind of identical to KJ, right?
- 9:15[SPEAKER_02]: in a lot of ways, but now they have an actual position, and you know, they've, where he Morris has come in, he's talking about all these different positions.
- 9:22[SPEAKER_02]: Words we haven't heard before here, you know, the star is the neighbor, the nickel back, like up to the south is their star, they can move him all around, the fever backer, which is a little bit of everything, and that is like perfect for Jayden Dugger, what he does because this is a guy that has played safety.
- 9:40[SPEAKER_02]: So we know he can cover.
- 9:42[SPEAKER_02]: Um, he's played edge so he can rush the quarterback theoretically and he's played the Mike Linebacker.
- 9:45[SPEAKER_02]: So he's a guy that, you know, could be one of those five down, but you don't know whether he's dropping, whether he's going, like, you don't know.
- 9:48[SPEAKER_02]: And so that's, I mean, I don't know, I mean, I mean, I mean, I mean, I mean, I mean, I mean, I mean, I mean, I mean, I mean, I mean, I mean, I mean, I mean, I mean, I mean, I mean, I mean, I mean, I mean, I mean, I mean, I mean, I mean, I mean, I mean, I mean, I mean, I mean, I mean, I mean, I mean, I mean, I mean, I mean, I mean, I mean, I mean, I mean, I mean, I mean,
- 9:57[SPEAKER_02]: There's going to be a lot of, I think, more deception with this 40-natter's defense, and this is a defense that needs that deception to be successful.
- 10:05[SPEAKER_00]: It's interesting that position battle feels like it's three very different guys, right?
- 10:09[SPEAKER_00]: Nick Martin, Dougher, and Ramellahite.
- 10:11[SPEAKER_00]: Very different.
- 10:12[SPEAKER_00]: They're like, Dougher might be the middle of the spectrum.
- 10:15[SPEAKER_01]: So much as on Ramello height though to perform as a rookie because it's like K-Dude, you're like one of the best past wrestlers that they have and he's a rookie But he's what is he 24 25 because he had six years of college like just about every one of their rookies He could like just take it up a notch in the preseason everybody's like oh, okay?
- 10:33[SPEAKER_01]: Because this this could be really interesting to see how he does because he's flashed a lot in camp You had elbow injury early in camp, but I don't think it's you know, he came back immediately.
- 10:42[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 10:42[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah
- 10:46[SPEAKER_02]: Like, he didn't really produce in college until he went to Texas Tech and he had two other really high graphics on that defensive lines.
- 10:58[SPEAKER_02]: So was he a product of that?
- 11:01[SPEAKER_02]: or, you know, because he was in five, five years of college and he, I don't know if he had more than three sacks in 81 season until last year.
- 11:07[SPEAKER_02]: So maybe he's just a late bloomer.
- 11:11[SPEAKER_02]: The thing that I would say about this draft class, I can't, you know, fake it and say I know all these guys personally.
- 11:17[SPEAKER_02]: But just first impressions and the guys I had met, I've had five one-on-ones with the draft picks.
- 11:24[SPEAKER_02]: They all seem.
- 11:26[SPEAKER_02]: like they are made of the right stuff, you know, you can spend five minutes with them and go, okay, this guy gets it.
- 11:32[SPEAKER_02]: He's not, I mean, when we first started covering, I got to say, who's bad, tell me who was trying to do it?
- 11:38[SPEAKER_02]: Well, no, I'm just saying, all of the more, we would, I mean, there were a bunch of, you know, and it's just, I think it's a statement on how mature guys are now coming into the NFL.
- 11:49[SPEAKER_02]: It seemed like more often than not, the rookies coming
- 11:57[SPEAKER_02]: It sure seems to me like the last handful of years and you know this year was really good last year.
- 12:03[SPEAKER_02]: I thought it was good It feels like these guys get it.
- 12:06[SPEAKER_00]: I might theory is it's not that they are they don't know that the game is still really fast when they show up like you can't
- 12:13[SPEAKER_00]: do that.
- 12:15[SPEAKER_00]: You can't prepare for that.
- 12:16[SPEAKER_00]: But a lot of these guys now, if you're drafting from especially, if you're drafting from a big school, we're a lot of them, even if they start at a smaller school, we'll end up at a bigger school because they transfer now, it's such a high pace.
- 12:27[SPEAKER_00]: They're going to show up having already had an agent negotiate them a card deal.
- 12:30[SPEAKER_00]: They're going to show up already having an agent negotiate them endorsements deal with, you know, basically free agency.
- 12:36[SPEAKER_00]: Like I think there is like the business side of it is probably a little
- 12:40[SPEAKER_01]: And they're not as tenacious and not as hungry and there's not no like, I think it weeds them out.
- 12:46[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, I think we some guys out.
- 12:48[SPEAKER_02]: I think maybe when a guy gets his money going from one college to the next.
- 12:54[SPEAKER_02]: if he's the guy that in the old days got his first paycheck in the NFL and flamed out, he's already flamed out in college and now the pro teams can see his junior year or senior year boy, you know, he doesn't mean that much to him.
- 13:08[SPEAKER_02]: He was all about the paycheck.
- 13:10[SPEAKER_02]: So I think it kind of has a way of kind of figuring out what these guys are going to do.
- 13:13[SPEAKER_00]: And you know, like from a football perspective, literally anything other than football qualifies as a distraction, right?
- 13:18[SPEAKER_00]: Like literally everything qualifies as a distraction.
- 13:20[SPEAKER_00]: And so
- 13:21[SPEAKER_01]: making money dealing with all that stuff is a distraction guys come in knowing how to deal with that distraction in a way that they didn't So for one of the guys who played a lot in college That is going to make us nine or debut either Thursday or sometime is Curtis work the quarterback Yeah, and so I'm like to me he's one of the more curious guys to see how he does
- 13:41[SPEAKER_01]: because he spent all last year recovering from his ACL, and I think the pre-season is perfect for like, you don't need to put Brock Pertier Mac Jones out there, much.
- 13:51[SPEAKER_01]: I guess you can't for the token reps, but I want to see how Curtis is going to be the quarterback next year, because Mac Jones is going to be probably starting for somebody perhaps by November.
- 14:01[SPEAKER_01]: So is this guy, that's where these pre-season games are going to be important on Roark and Adrian, because this franchise revolves
- 14:12[SPEAKER_02]: I'll give you.
- 14:12[SPEAKER_02]: Well, I was going to say, I can't see the furnace trading Mac Jones in November, unless they've had a horrible season because you still have to have that guy where you go.
- 14:24[SPEAKER_02]: Even if something happens if Brock pretty breaks the shoelace, still needs somebody who can go play.
- 14:31[SPEAKER_02]: But where Roar comes in, I think, is
- 14:33[SPEAKER_02]: It's going to make the fray ours, you know, they have a tough decision to make based on how he plays.
- 14:39[SPEAKER_02]: Do you keep three quarterbacks on the 53 or do you keep two?
- 14:41[SPEAKER_02]: Last year, they kept two.
- 14:42[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, that's all time.
- 14:43[SPEAKER_02]: But if you think, if you feel like, oh, he is on pace, he can be the backup next year, then they have no other choice, but to keep him, they can't take that chance of letting him get away.
- 14:54[SPEAKER_01]: McClombardy has like multiple Nick called him K-Rourke called him the big-hoss Call him Curtis you call him Mr. Rork.
- 15:02[SPEAKER_01]: Did not call him Mr. What do you call me a fantasy island?
- 15:05[SPEAKER_01]: That's how I was gonna say tattoo.
- 15:06[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, yeah This is why I wanted you guys together electric nobody knows that fantasy island is I'll tell you the position thing that is like you hate to bring it up It's not great content, but
- 15:19[SPEAKER_01]: Are you going to talk about offensive line ponder he's not on her.
- 15:21[SPEAKER_00]: I would rather go punt returner Okay, that's that's I can do ponder ponder returner I just think like in an ideal world Jordan Watkins would have would have taken that role Yeah, or check every turner or Jacob Cowan would have yeah, like Drew Watkins would play it would would return ponds well And be and be confident enough Was a receiver that you'd feel like that's the that's exactly what you need But he hasn't given him exactly what now cowings been the best catch
- 15:48[SPEAKER_00]: playing catcher but he's hurt.
- 15:50[SPEAKER_00]: Bergen doesn't seem like he's able to give you anything as a receiver.
- 15:54[SPEAKER_00]: So are you going to be coming a little better?
- 15:55[SPEAKER_00]: Okay.
- 15:56[SPEAKER_01]: I mean honestly, it's that really is a wide open thing and that those preseason games are going to factor in, but maybe the punt return is not even on this roster right now.
- 16:04[SPEAKER_01]: It could be one of those things where somebody gets cut loose.
- 16:06[SPEAKER_02]: I don't know if there's a great punt return out there, but I mean, no, I'm with it when training camps started at that cowling.
- 16:13[SPEAKER_02]: And when we can, I'm thinking Cowling two weeks in, I'm thinking Cowling.
- 16:16[SPEAKER_02]: Because he did look better as a receiver?
- 16:18[SPEAKER_00]: Yes, I think he's fine.
- 16:20[SPEAKER_02]: But the problem now is he missed all last year with one injury.
- 16:24[SPEAKER_02]: Now he has another injury.
- 16:25[SPEAKER_02]: I did seem running on Monday.
- 16:28[SPEAKER_02]: So it looks like maybe he's close to getting back there.
- 16:31[SPEAKER_02]: But, you know, that's something the forearms that have to consider, and I, you know, last year that basically paid to sky more, right before the start of the season, in the past they've picked up guys, I will Pauling is a guy too, that Leonard Hankerson, the Y receiver's coach, and I know you have some thoughts on this, but he called Will Pauling, five foot 10 183 pound Will Pauling, the most physical receiver on the team right now.
- 16:59[SPEAKER_01]: whatever I hear a coach talking about a guy like that tells me that he has a chance and it told me something else guy would have told me that was a message intended for Jordan Watkins it was a message intended for a stribling anybody else that's playing out there that they got to be tougher
- 17:15[SPEAKER_01]: that it wasn't so much a compliment towards Will Pallings.
- 17:17[SPEAKER_01]: Sure, you're doing okay.
- 17:19[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, he has to, to me, if you're an undrafted rookie free agent, why do you see, or you have to be lights out.
- 17:24[SPEAKER_01]: Every pass over the middle, you're going sky high to get it.
- 17:28[SPEAKER_01]: And I just, I haven't seen that kind of stuff from him yet.
- 17:31[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, he has time.
- 17:32[SPEAKER_01]: But I think that, those words were specifically intended for the other guys to, and not just like, you know, make contested catches, which Jordan Walkins is that trouble doing, actually.
- 17:42[SPEAKER_01]: But just like all around like in the run game, which I think he's probably really accurate on with I mean that's something where they break down the film and if you can see the guy engaging and wanting to seek out the block then that's that will show up.
- 17:53[SPEAKER_01]: So that's where you're going to see the drink practice is too like who's who's going to tough it up and you know go toe to toe with the Titans and wouldn't the chargers.
- 18:02[SPEAKER_00]: What do we think about Dave Jones dribbling?
- 18:04[SPEAKER_00]: You know, the receiver is so interesting here always because they keep drafting them, and Kyle is famously makes it hard on them, rightfully.
- 18:12[SPEAKER_02]: But you know, if he gets a good one, he plays.
- 18:14[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, Ricky, Ricky played a lot of play.
- 18:16[SPEAKER_00]: Ricky, Ricky would have played a lot of you.
- 18:18[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, he would have played a lot of you.
- 18:20[SPEAKER_02]: Samuel played a lot of, Danny, and I played a lot of his rookie.
- 18:24[SPEAKER_02]: So whenever they draft a guy in the first couple rounds,
- 18:28[SPEAKER_02]: Those guys play.
- 18:29[SPEAKER_02]: I'm always hesitant to blow his horn too much to give him too much praise dribbling because we haven't seen it in a game.
- 18:40[SPEAKER_02]: But just watching him in the Aussies and program, watching him on the practice field, I can't say about word about him.
- 18:49[SPEAKER_02]: The only bad thing I can say about him is I haven't seen him play in an NFL game yet.
- 18:53[SPEAKER_01]: I think, and that's, I think that's the consensus for anybody that's watched him practice his, you know, he looks really good, great hands, seems to know it being the right spot, big physical guy, fast, like you see 15 initially, like the first practice and you're going, point you on Jenny's looks a lot quicker this year.
- 19:11[SPEAKER_01]: And then, and it's like, wow, he's much more nimble too.
- 19:13[SPEAKER_01]: He's going low to get a pat, and it's like, he's really exciting.
- 19:19[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, you know, last year there was a lot of excitement around Jordan, one of the kids.
- 19:22[SPEAKER_01]: Then the year before there was a lot of excitement around her, keep here, so it stopped him a year, but it's like, everything's going to change once again.
- 19:28[SPEAKER_01]: He's going to, I'm just really curious.
- 19:30[SPEAKER_01]: And I asked, stripping this, like, what position are you focusing on learning one position of the three different receiver spots?
- 19:37[SPEAKER_01]: Or he's like, I got to learn them all, which is the right answer in Chanahan's offense.
- 19:40[SPEAKER_01]: But it's just like, now that debos in the mix is debo going to be like a full-time flanker, like more of a motion guy, which that was Jerry Rice's position, right?
- 19:50[SPEAKER_01]: Where a lot of stuff's going in, and Mike Evans is your boundary guy that can basically, you put Mike Evans anywhere and throw the ball up and get it to him.
- 19:57[SPEAKER_01]: And so you have those two, and then so strivling is not going to have the way to the world on him as a rookie, which is great.
- 20:02[SPEAKER_01]: So I think it's a really good thing that he's had a good camp so far, as long as the hamstring doesn't flare up on him.
- 20:09[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, I mean, I think they, you know, Pierce saw getting injured, hurts a lot because they drafted him because of his ability to beat man coverage.
- 20:17[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, we all remember the Super Bowl where the Kansas City locked them down, man coverage.
- 20:21[SPEAKER_02]: Debo's not good against man coverage.
- 20:23[SPEAKER_02]: Debo's a really good football player and he was in a lot of ways kind of epitomized a certain era of 40-manors football.
- 20:30[SPEAKER_02]: But he has limitations as a wide receiver.
- 20:33[SPEAKER_02]: He's great against zone coverage.
- 20:34[SPEAKER_02]: He's great about catching the ball,
- 20:36[SPEAKER_02]: full speed turning up field and making defensive backs, make business decisions.
- 20:42[SPEAKER_02]: But certain kind of defenses will limit him.
- 20:46[SPEAKER_02]: So then they can put him in the back field, they can have them return kicks, not punts, have them return kicks.
- 20:52[SPEAKER_02]: And so stribling fits in because I think he can beat man coverage.
- 20:57[SPEAKER_02]: Mike Evans says, hey, even when I'm covered, I'm not covered, throw it up to me.
- 21:06[SPEAKER_02]: all those guys in against defenses that set up well for each individual talent.
- 21:12[SPEAKER_01]: I think the kind of the x-factor that's getting overlooked in camp too is because it's not on the field as kiddo.
- 21:18[SPEAKER_01]: It's like when do you get George back and today at practice?
- 21:22[SPEAKER_01]: We were finally there when George was doing some of his rehab work and for two weeks in a camp, we weren't allowed on the field like what during the early portion of warm-ups where George does his work and the fans are serving as the journalist and getting video of George doing that.
- 21:37[SPEAKER_01]: But we got to see him.
- 21:38[SPEAKER_01]: I look great.
- 21:39[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, he's going to five cone drill and catch and passes for a few minutes and he's running good and just upbeat and I mean George is always upbeat.
- 21:46[SPEAKER_01]: And that's great.
- 21:47[SPEAKER_01]: So I think it really is a fascinating decision what they're going to have to do.
- 21:51[SPEAKER_01]: Do you do you bring him off pop for week one in Australia and like maybe not bring him.
- 21:59[SPEAKER_01]: I don't think so.
- 22:00[SPEAKER_01]: I think if he's off, he's gone and he's playing.
- 22:02[SPEAKER_00]: Even if he's not playing.
- 22:03[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, I don't know.
- 22:04[SPEAKER_02]: I don't know about that.
- 22:05[SPEAKER_02]: You think you would just travel and well, here's what I mean, okay, there's a couple things here.
- 22:09[SPEAKER_02]: What one would be that it's very possible that they decide not to play him week one, but they don't want to wait until week five.
- 22:17[SPEAKER_02]: So you play him somewhere there.
- 22:18[SPEAKER_02]: I'm of the opinion that if they think, you know what, it's in George's best interest and the team's best interest, not to play him week one.
- 22:27[SPEAKER_02]: And he would fight and scratch and claw to get to Melbourne.
- 22:31[SPEAKER_02]: But I would think it would be probably the best move for them.
- 22:36[SPEAKER_02]: If he's not going to play week one, keep him in Santa Clara.
- 22:39[SPEAKER_02]: So he's not losing.
- 22:40[SPEAKER_02]: I got to.
- 22:41[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, you don't have two full days on a plane.
- 22:43[SPEAKER_01]: You don't need him to be in a bastard.
- 22:44[SPEAKER_01]: Jerry Rice is going to be over there, Frank, or like Patrick, Jeff Carson, you don't need him to be in a bastard.
- 22:49[SPEAKER_01]: They're going to be too busy.
- 22:50[SPEAKER_01]: But we're a month out.
- 22:52[SPEAKER_01]: And he's looking like, I think he's playing.
- 22:53[SPEAKER_01]: I think George Kiddles playing the week one.
- 22:56[SPEAKER_00]: I kind of, I'm kind of with Cam on that really, but they just, I mean, keep in mind, it's, this is, they play the Titans this week, they play the Chargers the next week, they play the Ravens.
- 23:06[SPEAKER_00]: They play the Ravens.
- 23:07[SPEAKER_00]: No, no, I understand, but I'm just saying, and that's three weeks they're on a plane to Melbourne.
- 23:11[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 23:12[SPEAKER_00]: So he hasn't put pads on yet, in a practice.
- 23:14[SPEAKER_01]: He's hard to kill doesn't he?
- 23:14[SPEAKER_01]: And you think, Torchka doesn't eat that?
- 23:16[SPEAKER_02]: I don't know, man.
- 23:17[SPEAKER_02]: I don't think he needs much time to get ready to go for football, if he's physically ready.
- 23:21[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I don't know if you, they should not be thinking he's going to play 9% of the snaps.
- 23:27[SPEAKER_01]: Like Dickens, you're like George is a 99% of the snapgun.
- 23:30[SPEAKER_01]: He wants to be out there blocking the receiving, I think that's hard to say.
- 23:33[SPEAKER_01]: I think he's playing.
- 23:34[SPEAKER_02]: The question, like he, I think he's going to hit all the markers that he needs to hit to get cleared.
- 23:40[SPEAKER_02]: My personal opinion, no one's told me this.
- 23:42[SPEAKER_02]: But then there comes the great area of boy.
- 23:49[SPEAKER_02]: The readings, the GPS readings, and everything else tell us he's ready, but just does it make sense, does it feel right, and that's what they're gonna have to do.
- 23:59[SPEAKER_01]: So I mean, from backing up and like taking, you would say, why would you rush a guy back from an Achilles when you can keep him on this PUP list, and I'm gonna give him an extra month of runway before you throw him in.
- 24:11[SPEAKER_01]: That to me is the more logical step.
- 24:12[SPEAKER_01]: I just football's urgency.
- 24:15[SPEAKER_01]: Like you can't like every game matters so much and like and I don't think Georgia would be rushed back for the pomp and circumstance of playing in Australia It just means it's season it's week one right you need them from week one
- 24:27[SPEAKER_00]: Well, I do think, you know, the problem with bringing it back week five is that you've skipped three home games if you bring it back week five right weeks two three and four at home like well, that's the other thing do need them those games.
- 24:36[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, you're not playing superpowers in those three games.
- 24:39[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, I mean, I think if I think if I think if I would be, it would surprise me.
- 24:46[SPEAKER_02]: I think if he starts on PUP in the front of him just say week five, I think even if he doesn't play week one, I think two three or four.
- 24:57[SPEAKER_02]: He's going to fit in somewhere there, you know, here's the other part of it.
- 25:01[SPEAKER_00]: If he's not going to start on PUP, you're going to practice for a week in Australia.
- 25:05[SPEAKER_00]: So you may not know when the wheels go up for Melbourne, if you're going to play him or not.
- 25:10[SPEAKER_00]: Like it's possible you go, okay, let's just get him another week.
- 25:13[SPEAKER_00]: Let's make sure by Wednesday.
- 25:16[SPEAKER_01]: I think he's good to go, and that's going to depend on how his training goes in next couple of years.
- 25:20[SPEAKER_01]: Because if he's looking good, then he's going.
- 25:23[SPEAKER_02]: They can't be a week of game decision unless there's, unless he's the all systems go and then something happens, that has to be a decision internally that's made well before they step on that plane.
- 25:37[SPEAKER_00]: I think part of this is like we get so leading up to the season, there's so much going on, especially with this team.
- 25:43[SPEAKER_02]: Oh, is there a lot going on on this scene?
- 25:44[SPEAKER_00]: Just the usual about that.
- 25:47[SPEAKER_00]: No, but it's like they're playing the rams.
- 25:49[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 25:50[SPEAKER_00]: The playing the rams, and this is their road game against the rams, and the rams are flying in the day before, and the tires are flying in the week before.
- 25:57[SPEAKER_00]: If you win this game, I mean, the game last year, and LA was such a critical game.
- 26:01[SPEAKER_00]: It turned out to be such a big game for them to win that game on Thursday night and over time.
- 26:05[SPEAKER_02]: Well, like even like look back to last year that week one win against Seattle, you know, you give the for you know, you have field advantage, but that was a game of a huge win.
- 26:13[SPEAKER_00]: That was a huge win.
- 26:14[SPEAKER_00]: The game of chance at home field advantage.
- 26:17[SPEAKER_01]: It's going to feel like home field advantage in Melbourne because the Niners are the second most popular team in Australia behind the Ruse
- 26:27[SPEAKER_01]: Dallas Cowboys.
- 26:28[SPEAKER_01]: Oh.
- 26:28[SPEAKER_01]: Oh.
- 26:29[SPEAKER_01]: According to the NFL says that 900, so 100,000 seed plays, it's going to be packed with nine or fans.
- 26:35[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, it's, so it's a won't be in this kind of case.
- 26:37[SPEAKER_02]: So if I sell, there won't be any crickets in Melbourne, Cricket Grounds.
- 26:43[SPEAKER_02]: That was a horrible one.
- 26:45[SPEAKER_00]: You could find that on his YouTube channel from here on out.
- 26:48[SPEAKER_00]: You still can't give me that gift for just a good tip for it.
- 26:51[SPEAKER_00]: I do, but you know what, to his point, like, for all of the, and I know when they're there, all the questions will be, you know, do you really want to be here?
- 27:01[SPEAKER_00]: And the head coach says, you don't,
- 27:03[SPEAKER_00]: But I do think there's something 100,000 people It's an arbor.
- 27:08[SPEAKER_00]: It's a high-lost It's a fantastic and it's historic.
- 27:10[SPEAKER_00]: It's like those places but a hundred years old in those places, right?
- 27:15[SPEAKER_00]: That I would imagine it feels pretty special You know when the international get you guys were no better than me, but when the international came to start it was always like, well, it's the jags and somebody
- 27:24[SPEAKER_00]: This has to be one of the best international games.
- 27:26[SPEAKER_00]: But not only that, but look at it.
- 27:28[SPEAKER_00]: Look at it.
- 27:29[SPEAKER_01]: You got a rivalry match.
- 27:30[SPEAKER_01]: That's what I'm saying.
- 27:30[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, and you got, you have Miles Garrett debut in for the round.
- 27:34[SPEAKER_01]: It's Matthew Stafford, the rain in MVP.
- 27:37[SPEAKER_01]: Wow.
- 27:37[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, that's like the, they're getting headliners out there.
- 27:40[SPEAKER_01]: So.
- 27:40[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 27:41[SPEAKER_02]: No.
- 27:41[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, it's an important game.
- 27:43[SPEAKER_02]: Let's not lose sight of that.
- 27:45[SPEAKER_02]: It's a huge game because the NFC West is going to be a freaking battle.
- 27:51[SPEAKER_02]: You know, you got the rams up here on paper.
- 27:55[SPEAKER_02]: Seattle's the defending Super Bowl champs.
- 27:58[SPEAKER_02]: They're right there and the 49ers are right there too.
- 28:03[SPEAKER_02]: It's a big game.
- 28:05[SPEAKER_00]: Last thing I'll ask you for like one big storyline this year for the 49ers.
- 28:09[SPEAKER_00]: I'll start to give you a moment.
- 28:10[SPEAKER_00]: But I think what Matt just mentioned is like to me, I was just thinking about it watching today.
- 28:14[SPEAKER_00]: I think one of the big questions in the NFL is Mike McDonnell to have the antidote.
- 28:19[SPEAKER_00]: Or does Kyle Shannon have a counter punch and you'll only get two chances a year and you beat him once last year But the way that the fact that those two games at the end of the year were backed up two weeks apart and we're So dominant to see atleast side the whole offseason was about was Mike McDonald put on this earth
- 28:37[SPEAKER_00]: to stop Kyle Shanning in and you know, I think to me that's one of the big stories.
- 28:42[SPEAKER_01]: But I'll take it from there because I think one guy who's been had trouble against Mike McDonald is Brock Perti.
- 28:49[SPEAKER_01]: So I think going back to the Ravens.
- 28:51[SPEAKER_01]: Going back to the Ravens and just what the CX have done to him and their offense, but I think
- 28:56[SPEAKER_01]: the way they've brought in my ovens to help hurty and dribbling, you have McAfrey.
- 29:01[SPEAKER_01]: And Brock's going into his was fifth year here.
- 29:04[SPEAKER_01]: I'm fascinated by what year Brock's gonna have.
- 29:07[SPEAKER_01]: Because he's gonna be fully healthy.
- 29:09[SPEAKER_01]: The last year, that toe injury week one, that's just like, you know, that hurt him throughout the year and that he finished so strong.
- 29:17[SPEAKER_01]: So the confidence isn't shaken.
- 29:18[SPEAKER_01]: He knows the system better than anybody.
- 29:20[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, the other part of it is how is Kyle Shanahan
- 29:26[SPEAKER_01]: It seems like everything's going okay with like his health, you still have a month to go.
- 29:30[SPEAKER_01]: So I would imagine Kyle's going to be a full health, but like he's going to be able to call those plays in the heat of the moment with all that going on around him, but that's why pretty I think would help facilitate whatever's going on with his offense.
- 29:43[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, I was going to talk about the party, but Please do.
- 29:46[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, I mean, when you look at it into your point, the front air's beat, the Seattle Seox week one, 17 to 13.
- 29:54[SPEAKER_02]: That game was won by the front air's defense.
- 29:56[SPEAKER_02]: And it was won by Jake Todd just ripping the ball out of Requilance Ann.
- 29:59[SPEAKER_02]: Week 18, 40 an hour scored three points.
- 30:02[SPEAKER_02]: They lose 13 and three.
- 30:04[SPEAKER_02]: in the playoffs, they score six points.
- 30:06[SPEAKER_02]: Eight quarters, late late in the season, when Seattle's playing its best football, 49ers did not get into the in-zone.
- 30:13[SPEAKER_02]: So that's huge.
- 30:14[SPEAKER_02]: But I'll say this.
- 30:15[SPEAKER_02]: I'm going to do it on the other side.
- 30:17[SPEAKER_02]: We talk about the past rush or lack thereof.
- 30:19[SPEAKER_02]: This is a big year for Nick Bosa.
- 30:21[SPEAKER_02]: You know, he's coming off the ACL.
- 30:23[SPEAKER_02]: We haven't seen him in practice.
- 30:25[SPEAKER_02]: He's battling soreness.
- 30:26[SPEAKER_02]: He's got huge, huge money due to him next year.
- 30:30[SPEAKER_02]: This is no one's really talking about this, but if he has a season where he doesn't produce like the guy that they signed to that contract extension, this team has a decision to make on how to proceed forth.
- 30:48[SPEAKER_02]: And so Nick Bosa, you'll talk about what did the 49ers do to their past rush that can improve them from last year to this year.
- 30:56[SPEAKER_02]: You know, Ramella Heights, but you know what, it's Nick Bosa, getting Nick Bosa back and it has to be Nick Bosa.
- 31:04[SPEAKER_02]: You can't be a shadow of Nick Bosa, right?
- 31:07[SPEAKER_01]: I, you know, and how old is Nick, is Nick turning 30 this year?
- 31:10[SPEAKER_01]: It just seems like everybody on this team is 30 and over.
- 31:13[SPEAKER_01]: No offense to, that means we're experienced.
- 31:15[SPEAKER_01]: Yes.
- 31:16[SPEAKER_01]: But there's, I mean, this is kind of, this is like a, you don't like to say the boomer bus, but I mean, that window with so many guys at that, like, one or two years left in this franchise.
- 31:27[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 31:27[SPEAKER_01]: It's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's not just Nick who might just have one year.
- 31:30[SPEAKER_01]: There's, and I know Trent Williams signed for two more, but I mean, like,
- 31:34[SPEAKER_02]: This the time is closing fast it is but also I think they need that next wave Yeah, they need the second year guys.
- 31:41[SPEAKER_02]: They need the rookies.
- 31:42[SPEAKER_02]: They need Ramelo height They need these guys to be the next iteration of what the 49ers are going to become from 2027 on yep That's why I think the pretty thing I think Brock is so interesting just because he's
- 31:59[SPEAKER_00]: And he is now at the age of a quarterbacks or entering their prime.
- 32:03[SPEAKER_00]: He's not a finished product yet, right?
- 32:04[SPEAKER_00]: And conceivably, he should be getting better here these next couple years.
- 32:07[SPEAKER_02]: One hundred and forty seven pass attempts this year to qualify for the all-time winning and pass a rating.
- 32:13[SPEAKER_02]: Wow.
- 32:14[SPEAKER_02]: Fifteen hundred right now, he's about what two points ahead of Lamar Jackson and Aaron Roger.
- 32:18[SPEAKER_02]: So about five games in, he could have his name up there at the top of the list of all time passing leaders in the NFL.
- 32:27[SPEAKER_01]: That's right.
- 32:28[SPEAKER_01]: Okay.
- 32:29[SPEAKER_01]: I got his back on that.
- 32:30[SPEAKER_00]: It's a good place to end.
- 32:31[SPEAKER_00]: I love to have you guys because you're great friends and I appreciate you make great of what you do to guy.
- 32:36[SPEAKER_00]: Oh well.
- 32:37[SPEAKER_00]: Okay.
- 32:38[SPEAKER_02]: You're good.
- 32:38[SPEAKER_01]: I'm fine.
- 32:40[SPEAKER_01]: Man, I would be happy to come back any time.
- 32:44[SPEAKER_02]: I'm going to miss not seeing you on Saturdays.
- 32:49[SPEAKER_00]: Can I say that?
- 32:50[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, you can.
- 32:51[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, yeah.
- 32:52[SPEAKER_02]: I'm not saying this because you're here.
- 32:54[SPEAKER_02]: I would probably tell Canvas.
- 32:55[SPEAKER_02]: But I always would enjoy turning on a college football game and hearing your voice.
- 32:59[SPEAKER_00]: So you do a heck of a job.
- 33:00[SPEAKER_00]: Well, I appreciate it.
- 33:01[SPEAKER_00]: But I'll see you guys more now because I'll be here all the time.
- 33:04[SPEAKER_00]: All right.
- 33:04[SPEAKER_00]: So we lose, but we win.
- 33:05[SPEAKER_00]: But you win.
- 33:06[SPEAKER_00]: But the problem is when I'm here, I'm asking you to do hits on my podcast.
- 33:10[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 33:12[SPEAKER_00]: Anything for you?
- 33:14[SPEAKER_01]: Go eat Puesto!
