A tiny whitethroat bird, hit by a car and suffering from curled feet, got a creative rescue at the Leicestershire Wildlife Hospital—custom cardboard “sandals” made with cotton wool and medical tape to help it regain grip. Not the first time they’ve used this method, and since the bird had no other major injuries, release is expected soon. Rare to see a whitethroat in the hospital—these migratory birds are declining—and this little one’s recovery could be a small but meaningful win for conservation.
