- 2:02SPEAKER_13: That's the way to start off a Monday show.
- 2:04SPEAKER_13: Game Ball.
- 2:05SPEAKER_13: How about that?
- 2:06SPEAKER_13: Hey, a couple of notes as we begin the Monday edition of the Mike Keith show.
- 2:11SPEAKER_13: We'll tell you first of all, Josh Heipel did not announce a starting quarterback at his press conference today.
- 2:18SPEAKER_13: We'll visit with the head coach about a lot of things coming up in just a minute.
- 2:23SPEAKER_13: The second note, the Tennessee, Alabama game time has been announced for October 17th.
- 2:29SPEAKER_13: 3:30 Eastern, 2:30 Central for the Vols and the Tide at Neeland Stadium.
- 2:35SPEAKER_13: We'll hit that again later in the show just to keep you updated.
- 2:39SPEAKER_13: On the Monday edition of the Mike Keith Show, we visit with Chattanooga's Carson Jennel, the versatile Vol, who was in on big defensive, offensive, and special teams plays last Saturday.
- 2:51SPEAKER_13: We've got a big orange rewind of the victory over Auburn from our own Brent Hubbs.
- 2:56SPEAKER_13: And of course, as I just mentioned, Monday leads off with Vol head coach Josh Heipel.
- 3:03SPEAKER_13: It's presented by Calhoun.
- 3:05SPEAKER_13: Alright, Josh Heipel, what was the main step that Tennessee took as a team from the Texas game to the game against Auburn?
- 3:15SPEAKER_13: The main step in improvement that allowed you to knock off the Tigers.
- 3:18SPEAKER_09: Yeah, uh, first of all, you just try to be the best field uh best team on the field uh on a given Saturday.
- 3:24SPEAKER_09: Um uh defensively continued to grow, uh dominated uh at the line of scrimmage, point of attack, played extremely hard all 11.
- 3:34SPEAKER_09: Um I thought our corners made some really nice plays when they got challenged.
- 3:38SPEAKER_09: Ty Redman, the double move down the sideline, fundamentals technique playing through the wide receivers' hands.
- 3:44SPEAKER_09: Uh it was great to see.
- 3:45SPEAKER_09: Uh special teams took a massive uh step.
- 3:48SPEAKER_09: We have some young guys that are really growing up on our cover units.
- 3:52SPEAKER_09: Joel Wyatt did a phenomenal job.
- 3:55SPEAKER_09: Uh he was a real problem.
- 3:56SPEAKER_09: Matt Gunner on our punt team.
- 3:58SPEAKER_09: Uh down's the one at the uh down's one of them at the one-yard line.
- 4:02SPEAKER_09: Uh offensively, uh, I told the offense uh earlier today, sometimes re results aren't exactly what you want when you want them, but I thought we took a step uh at every position uh and uh you know had some things go uh the wrong way in the first half.
- 4:20SPEAKER_09: Competitive composure came out and played it uh extremely well in the second half.
- 4:24SPEAKER_13: Deshaun Bishop's performance historic in nature, only the 13th time a vol has rushed for more than 200 yards, and the first time a vol has had over 30 carries in a game in 11 years.
- 4:36SPEAKER_13: As you studied the tape, I'm just wondering what did you see that really stood out to you that you noticed about the performance that put him in the elite company now that you had a chance to pull back from the actual Saturday afternoon contest.
- 4:53SPEAKER_09: Yeah, uh ran like a grown man for 60 minutes, um, dirty yards in the interior, um, when it reduced, and it was time to bounce it.
- 5:02SPEAKER_09: He bounced it at the right time.
- 5:05SPEAKER_09: Um you know, he was pad plus two all day long.
- 5:09SPEAKER_09: Um just uh an elite performance by him uh on Saturday afternoon.
- 5:15SPEAKER_13: What was best about what you saw from George McIntyre at the quarterback position?
- 5:20SPEAKER_09: Yeah, you know, when you get that call uh in the middle of it, uh middle of a of a ball game, uh being able to uh flip the switch and get yourself uh ready to go play.
- 5:30SPEAKER_09: He was composed.
- 5:31SPEAKER_09: Uh he handled, you know, situational football extremely well, four-minute uh mode that we were in, uh draining some of the clock.
- 5:40SPEAKER_09: Uh he was decisive in the pass game and accurate within in the past game.
- 5:44SPEAKER_09: So uh really liked a lot of what we saw from George.
- 5:47SPEAKER_13: Another sophomore, Nick Moore gets a start at left guard.
- 5:50SPEAKER_09: How did he do?
- 5:51SPEAKER_09: Yeah, played really well.
- 5:52SPEAKER_09: Uh first time uh playing at guard, obviously started week one at at center.
- 5:56SPEAKER_09: Uh he had gotten some reps uh during the course of training camp um and uh spring ball at guard.
- 6:03SPEAKER_09: Um made a really good adjustment going out there uh during the course of game week, played extremely well.
- 6:08SPEAKER_09: There's some things that he's gonna learn from, some fundamental and techniques, some small things, but uh played extremely well for us there.
- 6:15SPEAKER_13: Tennessee is number one in two categories among all power four schools.
- 6:19SPEAKER_13: 23 sacks, but also fourth down defense.
- 6:22SPEAKER_13: O of five opponents have not converted a fourth down against you this year.
- 6:27SPEAKER_13: What has been the common thread on those fourth downs that have allowed you to stop opponents?
- 6:32SPEAKER_09: Uh it's been different situations.
- 6:34SPEAKER_09: Uh playing with gap integrity, playing with great eyes.
- 6:37SPEAKER_09: Uh, you look at the fourth down stop against Auburn, uh, heavy package, uh, and what they do, typically an inside play.
- 6:44SPEAKER_09: Uh, we recognize it.
- 6:45SPEAKER_09: Arian Carter sets a hard edge on it.
- 6:48SPEAKER_09: Uh, your inside pursuit has time uh to go make a play on the back.
- 6:52SPEAKER_09: Uh Nathan Robinson, uh T Lander go and uh and make a big time tackle.
- 6:57SPEAKER_09: Uh but it's all 11 uh play with a fundamental and technique within the scope of the scheme that allows you to have that type of success success.
- 7:04SPEAKER_13: Tennessee had 20 penalties in the first two games and yet only 14 in the last three.
- 7:10SPEAKER_13: What have the players been doing well to cut the penalty numbers down?
- 7:14SPEAKER_09: Uh it's a it's a choice in a lot of ways uh to not do something uh post-whistle uh that hurts the team.
- 7:21SPEAKER_09: Uh we've been smarter in that way.
- 7:23SPEAKER_09: Uh we've grown uh before the snap.
- 7:25SPEAKER_09: Uh offensively, still a couple of them the other day that uh we gotta eliminate.
- 7:29SPEAKER_09: It's changing in way uh situational football is being played out, uh, but continued growth, fundamentals, and technique uh where playing penalties aren't occurring as much as well.
- 7:39SPEAKER_13: In our next segment of the show, uh Carson Jennel will be our guest.
- 7:43SPEAKER_13: What makes it so fun to coach Carson Jennel?
- 7:46SPEAKER_09: He's smart, tough, and a relentless competitor.
- 7:48SPEAKER_09: He's uh he's a tough dude.
- 7:50SPEAKER_09: Um he cares about this program uh in a great way.
- 7:54SPEAKER_09: He's a phenomenal teammate uh in his versatility.
- 7:57SPEAKER_09: Uh you look at him playing on the defensive line.
- 8:00SPEAKER_09: He's played on the edge, played on the interior.
- 8:02SPEAKER_09: Uh, you look at what he does on special teams, plays on multiple units.
- 8:06SPEAKER_09: Uh you flip forward to the offensive side of the ball.
- 8:09SPEAKER_09: He shows up in our short yardage package.
- 8:11SPEAKER_09: Uh he's extremely smart, is able to soak in a lot of information, and you know he's gonna play uh with great fundamentals technique, and as much as anything, he's gonna play with everything that he has.
- 8:22SPEAKER_13: Coach, thanks for the time.
- 8:24SPEAKER_09: I appreciate it.

- 12:05SPEAKER_09: Jim asks, Coach Hypel, got any tailgating tips?
- 12:08SPEAKER_09: Boy, do I.
- 12:11SPEAKER_09: Jim, did you know Food City's gourmet burgers are handmade in store by a certified butcher?
- 12:17SPEAKER_09: Saturday is almost here.
- 12:19SPEAKER_09: Are you game day ready?
- 12:21SPEAKER_09: This has been Ask Coach Hyper with me, Coach Hypel.
- 12:26SPEAKER_03: What does the$7 Big Deal meal get you at Sonic?
- 12:29SPEAKER_03: The real question is, what doesn't it get you?
- 12:32SPEAKER_03: Enjoy a full meal, now including dessert for just seven dollars.
- 12:37SPEAKER_03: Try the$7 Sonic Big Deal meal today.
- 12:39SPEAKER_03: You want to live free?
- 12:44SPEAKER_14: Up the middle, he's under pressure.
- 12:46SPEAKER_14: Steps up, he's in trouble, and he's hit.
- 12:51SPEAKER_14: Carson Gentle! McIntyre gives Bishop Bang to the 10! Bishop to the five! Bishop is not there!
- 13:02SPEAKER_13: Carson Gentle was involved in those plays, plus more on special teams.
- 13:07SPEAKER_13: On a Saturday when Tennessee honored General Robert Nealon, the day was a perfect time to see a guy playing on both sides of the ball and in the kicking game.
- 13:18SPEAKER_13: A product of Macaulay School in Chattanooga.
- 13:21SPEAKER_13: Carson Gentle is living a dream, playing as much ball as possible for the big orange.
- 13:28SPEAKER_13: This right here is the guy who runs the show.
- 13:31SPEAKER_13: I'm just telling you, it's Carson Gentle, number 35.
- 13:34SPEAKER_13: I guess technically defensive line, but you play everywhere.
- 13:38SPEAKER_20: Yeah, yeah.
- 13:39SPEAKER_20: I'd move around a good bit for sure.
- 13:41SPEAKER_13: So you're coming out of Macaulay.
- 13:43SPEAKER_13: I got to call one of your state championship games.
- 13:46SPEAKER_13: Yeah.
- 13:46SPEAKER_13: And it was really a lot.
- 13:47SPEAKER_13: Y'all won that one.
- 13:48SPEAKER_13: Congratulations.
- 13:49SPEAKER_13: Um you're a huge star coming out of high school, and you did a lot of things for Macaulay, and you've sort of brought that versatility to Tennessee.
- 13:59SPEAKER_13: You've played on the edge, you've played inside on the defensive line, even though you're not the biggest guy in the world, you're not as big as some of the defensive tackles.
- 14:08SPEAKER_13: We've seen you line up at fullback, we've seen you as the extra tight end, we've seen you on special teams.
- 14:15SPEAKER_13: Um, do you just take pride in being a football player, period?
- 14:19SPEAKER_20: Yeah, definitely.
- 14:21SPEAKER_20: I think um I mean I love just a game of football in general.
- 14:25SPEAKER_20: I want to play as much as I can.
- 14:27SPEAKER_20: And so I mean, with that being said, like I'm gonna play wherever they need me, wherever they want me.
- 14:33SPEAKER_20: And then secondhand, like I want the best for Tennessee, so I'm gonna do whatever I can to help.
- 14:38SPEAKER_20: And if that means play special teams or fullback, tied in, play inside, like I'm gonna do whatever it takes.
- 14:44SPEAKER_13: Do you volunteer for these things or do they come and say, hey Carson, we want you to do some of this?
- 14:50SPEAKER_20: Uh I think it might be 50-50, like, you know, we know in high school you did this.
- 14:54SPEAKER_20: Do you want to try this out?
- 14:56SPEAKER_20: I'm like, 100%, I want to try it out.
- 14:57SPEAKER_20: You know what I mean?
- 14:58SPEAKER_20: So just wherever, wherever they need help, like I'm I'm down to help.
- 15:03SPEAKER_13: But moving inside from the outside to move inside where the action is rough and tumble.
- 15:09SPEAKER_13: Some of those guys outweigh you by 50, 60, 70, 80, 90, close to 100 pounds.
- 15:17SPEAKER_13: I mean, there's some there's some large dudes in there, and and yet you're making plays.
- 15:23SPEAKER_13: You're showing up on the tackle sheet, you're making things happen, you're giving Tennessee great reps.
- 15:28SPEAKER_13: How much of that is a challenge from a physical and a mental standpoint to play defensive tackle when you're not the biggest guy?
- 15:37SPEAKER_20: Yeah, I think at first, I mean, playing inside is something I've I've repped for, you know, over a year now, you know.
- 15:44SPEAKER_20: Oh, you have really you know, last season, you know, in practice, say a tackle was down, like I would take reps for you know, in-case moments um during the game, but also just because in practice, you know, we can't have everybody, one guy taking every rep.
- 15:58SPEAKER_20: So, you know, and it was definitely hard at first.
- 16:01SPEAKER_20: It's very different.
- 16:02SPEAKER_20: Uh, Coach D says it gets dark down there.
- 16:05SPEAKER_20: It definitely does, it's faster.
- 16:07SPEAKER_20: Um you got a tackle coming down on you or the guard coming out, you know, it's very different.
- 16:11SPEAKER_20: But um mentally, it's just you know, since I've got here, I've you know tried to learn everything I can.
- 16:18SPEAKER_20: Um and when we install a play, you know, I want to learn every position.
- 16:21SPEAKER_20: So like I could play every position, or if somebody needs help, like I can tell them, you know, you've got this or that you've got this.
- 16:27SPEAKER_20: Um so mentally it hasn't been the biggest challenge, but I think you know, physically it's everything's on you a lot faster.
- 16:34SPEAKER_20: It's different than being on the edge.
- 16:36SPEAKER_13: What does it mean in your life, just as a human being?
- 16:40SPEAKER_13: Not a football player, but as a human being.
- 16:42SPEAKER_13: That you have Rodney Garner's confidence enough that he will put you in in different spots in the defensive line.
- 16:52SPEAKER_20: I mean, uh it's definitely a great feeling, you know, when anybody has confidence in you, um, even outside of football.
- 16:58SPEAKER_20: Like if somebody trusts you, that's a big deal and uh something you should strive for in all your relationships.
- 17:03SPEAKER_20: And so I mean, for the D-line and for Coach G to have that confidence in me, that's definitely a big deal.
- 17:08SPEAKER_20: I take pride in that.
- 17:09SPEAKER_20: Um, you know, try to make the most of it.
- 17:12SPEAKER_13: Well, he's not an easy guy to please.
- 17:14SPEAKER_13: So knowing that he has that kind of confidence in you, I would think is something you're striving to maintain.
- 17:20SPEAKER_13: But it it has to be it has to make you think if he has that belief in me, I can go do it.
- 17:27SPEAKER_20: Yeah, 100%.
- 17:28SPEAKER_20: And you know, that's sort of my mindset's been these first few weeks.
- 17:33SPEAKER_20: Um, you know, sliding inside, like I hadn't really wrapped it in game yet, and so I don't know how it would go.
- 17:38SPEAKER_20: But uh, you know, after doing it, it's like, okay, you know, that was a good old line, and I was able to do that, and then this past week, you know, we played a really good old line, and I was able to, you know, play inside pretty well, and so it definitely ups my confidence and you know, I think frees me up to make more plays.
- 17:56SPEAKER_13: Can your quickness be a big advantage?
- 17:58SPEAKER_20: Yeah, I think definitely you know, the key just being you know, you have to have as many advantages as you can.
- 18:05SPEAKER_20: Like, you know, their tendencies, what you think this plays about to be and everything, and then the quickness can definitely help, yeah.
- 18:11SPEAKER_13: Your wrestling background.
- 18:14SPEAKER_13: You were really good at that.
- 18:16SPEAKER_13: Um how much do you find that and I've always wondered this about wrestlers?
- 18:22SPEAKER_13: We hear it about like guards at times, centers and guards on offense that their wrestling background's a huge help.
- 18:29SPEAKER_13: For a defensive player, how much of a of a help is it to have the wrestling background that you do?
- 18:36SPEAKER_20: Yeah, so I wrestled for maybe it might have been eight years or so.
- 18:40SPEAKER_20: It was on and off when I was younger, but um you know, I took it pretty serious in high school.
- 18:46SPEAKER_20: Um and it definitely helped.
- 18:49SPEAKER_20: I mean, wrestling's about the hardest thing you can do, just conditioning wise, mentally.
- 18:53SPEAKER_20: It's and it's a one-on-one sport.
- 18:55SPEAKER_20: It's very um you know, it's mentally challenging and physically.
- 18:58SPEAKER_20: So I it helped me, I think it definitely helped me get tougher.
- 19:02SPEAKER_20: Um and then just from the physicality and leverage standpoint, it definitely helps.
- 19:07SPEAKER_20: Um you know, when you're tied up with a guy, you know, just getting lower leverage or being able to get in a better position, it definitely helps.
- 19:14SPEAKER_13: Well, the fact that it's only you out there.
- 19:18SPEAKER_13: When you're when you're out there for, you know, those periods of time for three periods, and it's just you and another human being, and everybody's watching you, um, that's not like anything else in sport.
- 19:32SPEAKER_20: Yeah, it's it's very unique.
- 19:34SPEAKER_20: Um I definitely miss it sometimes, just that feeling, you know, it's uh like you said, just one guy versus another, everybody has eyes on y'all.
- 19:43SPEAKER_20: Like there's nobody there to cover up for you or help you.
- 19:47SPEAKER_20: Um and that just made winning so much so much sweeter, you know.
- 19:51SPEAKER_20: So it's uh it's a very unique sport.
- 19:54SPEAKER_13: Is your kneeland moment sponsored by pilot, preserved by pilot?
- 20:01SPEAKER_13: Is it the block you threw in the Arkansas game at the end of the year last year?
- 20:05SPEAKER_13: Is that is that right at the top for right now?
- 20:09SPEAKER_20: That that's definitely up there, yeah.
- 20:11SPEAKER_20: Like you know, big moments like that are you're always gonna remember those.
- 20:16SPEAKER_20: So I think maybe right now that's definitely up there, yeah.
- 20:19SPEAKER_13: What what is playing it for for a guy who grew up in Chattanooga?
- 20:25SPEAKER_13: What is it like to play in Nealand Stadium?
- 20:28SPEAKER_13: How would you describe it to a to a guy who's in state?
- 20:32SPEAKER_20: I think just playing football here personally, um it's something I never take for granted.
- 20:38SPEAKER_20: It's something I think about every day, you know, like this is what I always wanted, this is what so many people dream of doing.
- 20:44SPEAKER_20: Um and I remember first time running through the tea, it was you know, everybody says it, but it was like nothing else, and I don't think anything will feel like that again.
- 20:53SPEAKER_20: But um I mean it means a lot to me.
- 20:55SPEAKER_20: I never take it for granted.
- 20:57SPEAKER_20: And you know, it's definitely a motivation for you know working every day and you know, never being complacent with where I'm at.
- 21:05SPEAKER_13: So are you sort of plugging to get back on offense?
- 21:08SPEAKER_13: Have you been working on that right now?
- 21:10SPEAKER_13: Do you need me to lobby for you?
- 21:13SPEAKER_13: I mean, I'll go wrong right here.
- 21:14SPEAKER_13: I'll say we gotta get 35 back on offense.
- 21:17SPEAKER_20: Yeah, I mean, it's definitely you know something we're always prepared to do.
- 21:22SPEAKER_20: Uh there are things.
- 21:24SPEAKER_20: Yeah.
- 21:24SPEAKER_13: There are things.
- 21:25SPEAKER_13: You don't want to say everything, right?
- 21:27SPEAKER_20: It's something that you know we're we're definitely prepared for.
- 21:30SPEAKER_13: But it's gotta be fun.
- 21:31SPEAKER_13: I mean, going into games and going into weeks and thinking, okay, I'm gonna have this role this week, and I get a chance to help in this way.
- 21:38SPEAKER_13: And yeah, it certainly keeps it interesting.
- 21:40SPEAKER_20: Yeah, definitely.
- 21:41SPEAKER_20: It's sometimes like you know, Friday night before the game, I'm I've just been thinking about defense all day, and then I'm like, oh shoot, like we have a we got a little thing.
- 21:51SPEAKER_20: Like we're doing this on punt.
- 21:52SPEAKER_20: I gotta get back in my notes.
- 21:55SPEAKER_13: When the Mike Keith show returns, time for a big orange rewind of Saturday.
- 22:00SPEAKER_13: Win over Auburn from Brett Host.
- 22:03SPEAKER_11: Your exclusive access to the players and coaches proudly wearing the orange and white.
- 22:09SPEAKER_11: This is your Mobile Network.
- 22:16SPEAKER_15: It's time for the Rackley Roofing recap.
- 22:19SPEAKER_15: Rackley Roofing, transforming the roofing industry in the proud official roofer of the Tennessee Volunteers.
- 22:26SPEAKER_12: Hey Ball Nation, this is Sarah Jettweiler, and it's time now for the Rackley Roofing Recap.
- 22:31SPEAKER_12: The number 15 Tennessee football team got back in the wind column on Saturday, rallying in the second half to take down Auburn 24-14 in Neeland Stadium.
- 22:40SPEAKER_12: Knoxville native Deshaun Bishop turned in a career day, rushing for 220 yards and three touchdowns, including scoring runs of 25 and 44 yards.
- 22:50SPEAKER_12: The Valls outscored Auburn 21-7 in the second half, and the Tennessee defense came up big with two interceptions to seal the deal.
- 22:58SPEAKER_12: Elsewhere, number 11 Tennessee volleyball bounced back from a Friday loss at number 7 Florida with a dominant three-set sweep at Auburn on Sunday.
- 23:07SPEAKER_12: The Lady Balls hit 300 and held the Tigers to just 111 to pick up their first SEC win of the season and their ninth sweep of the year.
- 23:16SPEAKER_12: And number 16 Tennessee Women's Golf opened its home tournament on Sunday at the Cherokee Country Club.
- 23:22SPEAKER_12: Finishing the first round of the Mercedes-Benz intercollegiate tied for third at four underpar.
- 23:28SPEAKER_12: That was the Rackley Roofing recap.
- 23:30SPEAKER_12: Rackley Roofing, transforming the roofing industry and the proud official roofers of the Tennessee Volunteers.
- 23:38SPEAKER_13: Brent Hubbs is here.
- 23:40SPEAKER_13: A big orange rewind of Tennessee's win over the Auburn Tigers.
- 23:44SPEAKER_13: Brent, of course, ballquest.com and the Ball Radio Network for over three decades.
- 23:49SPEAKER_13: Nealand Legacy game on Saturday.
- 23:52SPEAKER_13: Wearing the jerseys to honor General Nealand's 100th anniversary of his first game.
- 24:00SPEAKER_13: And there were a lot of Nealand-type moments in the game.
- 24:05SPEAKER_13: I think it's a game he would have recognized.
- 24:11SPEAKER_13: But for you, what was the most Nealand-esque moment of Saturday's win over Albert?
- 24:17SPEAKER_22: I think it was the field playing field position.
- 24:20SPEAKER_22: The fact that Josh Heipel took a delay game penalty to punt the ball deep.
- 24:25SPEAKER_22: We saw Josh Heipel do that against Texas AM in 2023, which was kind of really the first time where you're like, oh true complimentary football.
- 24:34SPEAKER_22: Not going to go for it on that situation.
- 24:37SPEAKER_22: I'm going to punt a deep play field position.
- 24:40SPEAKER_22: Josh Heipel recognized early in the game that there was that was a path to go.
- 24:45SPEAKER_22: So I think that single moment where he actually took a penalty, backed it up, and then the punt worked to perfection to pinned in D.
- 24:53SPEAKER_22: That that was a that was a maximum moment of pressing the kicking game, you know, and creating opportunities for yourself.
- 25:01SPEAKER_13: Jackson Ross had five kicks down inside the 11-yard line.
- 25:05SPEAKER_13: But Joel Wyatt was one of the reasons that happened because he beat the gunner on the outside regularly to make the punt returner Kane have to get out of the way or fair catch or whatever.
- 25:19SPEAKER_13: For people who don't know number 31, Joel Wyatt, the freshman, tell us about his background and how he got to Tennessee.
- 25:27SPEAKER_22: That's a great, it's a really unique story from the standpoint of you know, he had to transfer because his his high school team didn't build a team.
- 25:35SPEAKER_22: So he ends up transferring to Blackman in senior year or Oakland in senior year because the web school in Bellbuckle didn't put a team out there.
- 25:43SPEAKER_22: So he goes and transfers and plays there.
- 25:46SPEAKER_22: But everybody looked looked at him physically and went, 25 pounds, 30 pounds, he's gonna play off the edge.
- 25:53SPEAKER_22: And Joel was like, I'm a space guy.
- 25:55SPEAKER_22: I play safety.
- 25:56SPEAKER_22: I want to play safety.
- 25:58SPEAKER_22: And there were some schools who agreed, said, Yeah, we'll let you play safety, whatever.
- 26:03SPEAKER_22: He went to the Rivals Five-star challenge, which is an elite camp, so to speak, for the better players, and they did seven-on-seven stuff and one-on-one stuff, and he played in the secondary.
- 26:14SPEAKER_13: And he's 6'4-2-10.
- 26:16SPEAKER_22: And he played well in that deal, and everybody looked at him, a lot of people observing that looked at him and said, you know what?
- 26:21SPEAKER_22: Maybe he can play out there in space and is not a guaranteed edge rusher like a lot of people thought he would go he was gonna be.
- 26:29SPEAKER_22: And that's what the opportunity he wanted was to play uh out in space because he can run and he's a great athlete with just you know really good size.
- 26:37SPEAKER_22: He's really tall.
- 26:38SPEAKER_22: And I think what you saw on Saturday is you saw that athletic ability.
- 26:43SPEAKER_22: Uh physically, um he he manhandled the Auburn defender as a gunner, or he just athletically beat at the line of scrimmage.
- 26:52SPEAKER_22: Uh I mean, I I would love to know what his his GPS mile per hour was because he was humming getting down there.
- 26:59SPEAKER_22: Uh and so he's a guy that I think they're still trying to figure out exactly what he's gonna be position-wise.
- 27:06SPEAKER_22: You know, he's played some safety, he's played some corner, now he's playing a lot of special teams, had a big block, and the Quay Moss Part returned for a touchdown.
- 27:13SPEAKER_22: So he's buying in.
- 27:14SPEAKER_22: The question is, where does he grow to position-wise in Jim Knowles defense moving forward?
- 27:21SPEAKER_13: Turning to offense, the George McIntyre we saw on Saturday, fit his profile.
- 27:28SPEAKER_13: Calm, steady, accurate.
- 27:31SPEAKER_13: Um that's what his recruitment showed, and that what people were turned on by.
- 27:37SPEAKER_13: What did you see from this George McIntyre, two years removed from Brentwood Academy?
- 27:42SPEAKER_22: Well, I think the thing that you mentioned is toys, and and he was put into a really difficult situation.
- 27:47SPEAKER_22: You're backed up.
- 27:48SPEAKER_22: You know, the whole plan is you're gonna change quarterbacks there, then you don't get the touchback.
- 27:53SPEAKER_22: Um, you're gonna end up with a knee and you're at the three-yard line, and you're thinking, are you really gonna go here?
- 27:58SPEAKER_22: Like, first snap's gonna be backed up in the three in a game that you're down seven to three late in the first half.
- 28:04SPEAKER_22: Aubrey gets the ball to start the second half, a three and out there, puts them in field goal range pretty quickly.
- 28:09SPEAKER_22: It's a pretty pretty significant moment in that football game.
- 28:14SPEAKER_22: And I thought he came out in command, um, delivered the football when he had to deliver the football.
- 28:20SPEAKER_22: I thought that drive, even though in Tennessee ended up with no points, was the biggest moment in the football game because it calmed everything down.
- 28:28SPEAKER_22: And that's that's George's demeanor, you know, and I think that's what you were looking for out of a quarterback changer is I want a guy who the game doesn't feel fast for right now.
- 28:39SPEAKER_22: And it didn't feel like the game was really sped up to him.
- 28:42SPEAKER_13: Tennessee started two new guards in the game at left guard, number 58, Nick Moore.
- 28:47SPEAKER_13: At right guard, number 69, Donovan Haslum.
- 28:50SPEAKER_13: How did they do?
- 28:50SPEAKER_22: I think they both played physical, particularly in the run game.
- 28:53SPEAKER_22: I think there's some pass protection stuff to clean up.
- 28:56SPEAKER_22: I think you go back and look at those first couple of sacks.
- 28:58SPEAKER_22: I don't know all the communication on who's calling what protection and this, that, and the other.
- 29:03SPEAKER_22: They had a hard time with that twist, as Bill Mayo pointed out on the broadcast, they got bit on a delay blitz over on the right side.
- 29:11SPEAKER_22: But I think when you look at the physicality that they played with in the run game, where Tennessee was guard-centered guard, they moved the line of scrimmage better.
- 29:19SPEAKER_22: Now, Auburn's not Texas, so I understand all that.
- 29:22SPEAKER_22: But the movement they generated in the interior helped that run game get going.
- 29:28SPEAKER_22: And I think Nick Moore did a really good job of that.
- 29:31SPEAKER_22: I think Donovan Hasleman's most comfortable doing that in the run game.
- 29:35SPEAKER_22: And I think both those guys together probably helped Sam Pendleton a little bit better inside two with some of the physicality.
- 29:41SPEAKER_13: Brent, let me ask you about the Metcalf brothers.
- 29:46SPEAKER_13: Two two brothers starting in the secondary.
- 29:48SPEAKER_13: Number one, TJ, is the starting safety.
- 29:51SPEAKER_13: With Quay Moss out of the game, number 20, Tevis Metcalf gets the start at the nickel or what they call the star position.
- 30:00SPEAKER_13: Um TJ Metcal has been a really steady eddy in the secondary all along.
- 30:06SPEAKER_13: Tevis Metcalf had a really nice day getting called into that role.
- 30:10SPEAKER_13: The two brothers, what you know of them.
- 30:14SPEAKER_13: Give me some thoughts.
- 30:15SPEAKER_22: Well, I mean, first of all, you gotta remember TJ Metcalf played in this game two years ago, had seven tackles.
- 30:20SPEAKER_13: Played for Arkansas.
- 30:21SPEAKER_22: In a game where Arkansas went three safeties and really changed the pitcher for the offense for Tennessee, played well in that game.
- 30:28SPEAKER_22: Uh then they go to Michigan.
- 30:30SPEAKER_22: He plays well at Michigan, and Tevis is just kind of the guy, it feels like a long for the ride.
- 30:35SPEAKER_22: And he comes to Tennessee and he comes with TJ Metcalf, and you're like, yeah, okay, they need safeties, they need TJ.
- 30:42SPEAKER_22: If Tevis wants to come, maybe special teams, he can help here and there.
- 30:45SPEAKER_22: To Tevis's credit, Tevis has really put in work since he's gotten here.
- 30:50SPEAKER_22: And he has really earned the trust of Jim Knowles and Anthony Poindexter that he's gonna be in the right place.
- 30:57SPEAKER_22: Was he perfect on Saturday?
- 30:59SPEAKER_22: No.
- 30:59SPEAKER_22: Did he did he miss some tackles?
- 31:00SPEAKER_22: Did he play some of the receiver screen stuff maybe better?
- 31:04SPEAKER_22: Sure, whatever.
- 31:05SPEAKER_22: But he was where he was supposed to be all the time.
- 31:07SPEAKER_22: And I think what we're learning with Jim Knowles is the trust factor with Jim Knowles is a really big deal.
- 31:14SPEAKER_22: It doesn't you don't necessarily have to be the best athlete.
- 31:18SPEAKER_22: It's are you gonna be where you're supposed to be all the time in the right place?
- 31:23SPEAKER_22: Because he's trying to eliminate the bust, he's trying to eliminate, you know, ugly plays where a guy's just lost.
- 31:30SPEAKER_22: So if you know what to do, you're putting yourself in a position to play.
- 31:33SPEAKER_22: To Teva Smith's credit, he has really spent a ton of time in the building, in the film room, learning everything about that position.
- 31:42SPEAKER_22: Because what he recognized is they don't have a backup nickel.
- 31:45SPEAKER_22: Clay Moss is a starter, they don't have a backup nickel.
- 31:48SPEAKER_22: I've got a chance to play if I go and earn this opportunity.
- 31:51SPEAKER_22: Absolutely.
- 31:52SPEAKER_22: And he has done that.
- 31:52SPEAKER_22: He has really earned the trust of Anthony Poindexter over the last five or six months.
- 31:57SPEAKER_13: And he's a backup safety too.
- 31:58SPEAKER_13: I mean, he's going to play football based on just how the year goes and what a super job for him.
- 32:05SPEAKER_13: And the sight of him getting a game ball was really special.
- 32:07SPEAKER_22: Yeah, it was cool.
- 32:08SPEAKER_22: You know, for both those guys to to be down in the end zone after the interception to see them celebrate was really, really cool.
- 32:14SPEAKER_22: Um, fun moment.
- 32:15SPEAKER_22: Because, you know, TJ's been the guy who has played a lot, and he knows Tevis as, you know, kind of little brother, sort of, you know, tag-along type deal.
- 32:23SPEAKER_22: And to see his brother make a play the way he did uh was really cool.
- 32:27SPEAKER_22: He was in a right spot.
- 32:28SPEAKER_22: Marion Dye got it done for him up front, but that's what you're supposed to do on defense.
- 32:33SPEAKER_13: Brent Hubbs is with us for his big orange rewind from Saturday's victory over Auburn.
- 32:37SPEAKER_13: We've got another segment, plus his Firehouse Sub Hot Take.
- 32:41SPEAKER_13: I can't wait to hear it.
- 32:42SPEAKER_13: That's next on the Mike Keith Show, delivered by Uber Eats.
- 32:46SPEAKER_19: You're one-on-one with Mike Keith, sponsored by Food City, the official supermarket of the Tennessee Volunteers.

- 33:25SPEAKER_09: When you need help with auto, some peace of mind for your home.
- 33:33SPEAKER_07: Are you preparing for the next chapter in life?

- 33:57SPEAKER_13: Bring on the T ball makes it at least the capability of the Ford F-150 bring the rest.
- 34:20SPEAKER_16: The future isn't only about what we build.
- 34:23SPEAKER_16: It's about how we power the lives around us.
- 34:25SPEAKER_16: Cleaner technology, greater efficiency, and smarter ways to meet the energy demands of a growing state.
- 34:32SPEAKER_16: That's the power of natural gas, helping deliver reliable, efficient energy across Tennessee every day.
- 34:40SPEAKER_16: Because progress should move communities forward while helping protect the places we call home.
- 34:46SPEAKER_16: Natural gas, fueled for the future.
- 34:49SPEAKER_01: Being at the Vols game saved my life.
- 34:59SPEAKER_01: The UT medical team knew exactly what they needed to do and just kept me calm throughout the process.
- 35:05SPEAKER_01: It was probably the most serious heart attack that you could have.
- 35:09SPEAKER_01: The team to care of me, worked quickly, efficiently, and I did catch the end of the game.
- 35:16SPEAKER_18: These are the stories of the region's academic health system.
- 35:19SPEAKER_10: Valvaleen instant oil change technicians train hard.
- 35:24SPEAKER_10: As a proud sponsor of the Tennessee Volunteers, we gave Bitcoin a chunk, owning their speed, accuracy, and efficiency.
- 35:34SPEAKER_10: To be a champion, you have to train like one.
- 36:22SPEAKER_23: Sometimes it's not just protecting the quarterback.
- 36:25SPEAKER_23: Sometimes it's holding the water.
- 36:27SPEAKER_23: Sometimes it's good no one can do it.
- 36:31SPEAKER_23: We protect each other.
- 36:32SPEAKER_23: We protect to stay ready.
- 36:34SPEAKER_23: Protection looks different depending on where you stay.
- 36:36SPEAKER_23: Whether it's protecting the quarterback or protecting what matters at all, the responsibility is to stay.
- 36:42SPEAKER_23: Best five methods.
- 36:43SPEAKER_23: Designed to expire, made to protect, driven to serve.
- 36:52SPEAKER_13: Tennessee beats Auburn 24-14 on a day where the defense is outstanding.
- 36:57SPEAKER_13: Probably no one more outstanding than Dejaan Lane.
- 37:02SPEAKER_13: Transfer safety from Penn State.
- 37:04SPEAKER_13: Nine tackles, a couple sacks, two and a half tackles for loss, an interception.
- 37:10SPEAKER_13: Is he the biggest surprise of the transfer portal class?
- 37:15SPEAKER_22: Yes, for me, just just because he was a guy who knew the system but was not a big factor in the system at Penn State.
- 37:24SPEAKER_22: He had been a part of it.
- 37:25SPEAKER_22: He knew what to do, but he had not kind of carved out a role for himself.
- 37:29SPEAKER_22: You know, he he was going to be the backup safety until Idris Farouk got hurt.
- 37:34SPEAKER_22: And I think when you watched him or and and you heard people talk about that first scrimmage, which was less than 24 hours after the injury to Farouk, he was okay.
- 37:44SPEAKER_22: Played hard.
- 37:45SPEAKER_22: He was okay.
- 37:46SPEAKER_22: The next scrimmage, he was better and more comfortable because he understood, okay, I'm with the ones now.
- 37:53SPEAKER_22: Here we go.
- 37:53SPEAKER_22: This is I've got to go take this.
- 37:55SPEAKER_22: And he's just continued to build as the season has progressed.
- 38:00SPEAKER_22: And again, we talk about the trust factor.
- 38:02SPEAKER_22: Think about how they're using him.
- 38:04SPEAKER_22: He's playing in the middle of the field, he's playing the deep third, he's playing in the box in the run game, they're blitzing him off the edge.
- 38:10SPEAKER_22: When we talk about Jim Knoll's system, it's so it's so centered around the safety play, and he's a guy that they're really using as a weapon as a safety in a bunch of different ways.
- 38:22SPEAKER_22: I thought he was outstanding on Saturday.
- 38:24SPEAKER_13: There were several guys who contributed to the fourth and one stop in the fourth quarter, but I want to center around Nathan Robinson.
- 38:32SPEAKER_13: He he's credited with the tackle, 6'7, 295, big old number 19.
- 38:40SPEAKER_13: Showed a lot of athleticism just flying down the line to make that hit.
- 38:45SPEAKER_13: Is that athleticism part of his game that they certainly would like to see more of now that he's healthy?
- 38:51SPEAKER_22: Yeah, no doubt.
- 38:52SPEAKER_22: The most impressive part of that play to me, he's in a four-point stance.
- 38:57SPEAKER_22: And the whole thought process is I have to get lower than the other guy.
- 39:02SPEAKER_22: And he's thinking the guard is just going to hit him.
- 39:05SPEAKER_22: Like, like this is just this is the interstate pileup, is what you're trying to create there.
- 39:10SPEAKER_22: And all of a sudden, he comes off the ball and there's no guard there.
- 39:15SPEAKER_22: For him to have the balance and the athletic ability to keep his feet when you're thinking he's almost just diving forward in a lot of ways, to be that low and to stay off the ground.
- 39:27SPEAKER_13: Especially when you're that tall.
- 39:28SPEAKER_22: Yeah, to bear crawl to that point is I mean, there's where the athletic ability showed up to me is the first two or three steps.
- 39:36SPEAKER_22: Because you you you're gonna hear Coach Garner talk about all the time.
- 39:39SPEAKER_22: Leverage is bad, he doesn't play low enough, he's got to play low, low.
- 39:42SPEAKER_22: To do that in those first three steps and then redirect to make that play is a really, really athletic play for anybody.
- 39:50SPEAKER_22: But at six foot seven, three hundred pounds, it's a unbelievable athletic play.
- 39:55SPEAKER_13: All right, Brent Hubbs.
- 39:56SPEAKER_13: I hope you're warmed up.
- 39:57SPEAKER_13: Pardon the pun.
- 39:58SPEAKER_13: Because it's time for Brent Hubb's hot take of the week presented by Firehouse Subs.
- 40:04SPEAKER_13: By the way, they're bringing back the Thanksgiving sub, the turkey and dressing sub.
- 40:09SPEAKER_13: It's pretty good.
- 40:10SPEAKER_13: Did you have that last year when we had that in here?
- 40:13SPEAKER_13: We're gonna have it.
- 40:13SPEAKER_13: They're gonna bring it in.
- 40:15SPEAKER_13: You will be invited for that.
- 40:17SPEAKER_22: All right, give me a hot take.
- 40:18SPEAKER_22: Uh my hot take's gonna be I'm I'm gonna ride the Marion Die train right now.
- 40:22SPEAKER_22: I I think when you talk about surprises and who's doing what, I think what Marion Die is doing right now for Tennessee as a sophomore, you can see the game really cut him coming into his own in the game.
- 40:36SPEAKER_22: So give me Marion Die with um with two sacks in this game.
- 40:40SPEAKER_13: Do you know he did not have a sack in the Auburn game?
- 40:43SPEAKER_22: Yeah.
- 40:43SPEAKER_22: Well, but he forced two interceptions and a full.
- 40:47SPEAKER_13: Okay, but here's the interesting part.
- 40:49SPEAKER_13: So in the second quarter play, this is a statistical anomaly to college football.
- 40:55SPEAKER_13: In the second quarter play, where he forced the Brown fumble that was recovered by uh Ariane Carter, Auburn has it third and five at their own 46-yard line.
- 41:10SPEAKER_13: So Brown drops the pass, die hits him, causes the fumble.
- 41:17SPEAKER_13: Because the ball rolls forward and is recovered at the 49-yard line, it is scored as a Brown rush for a positive three yards.
- 41:30SPEAKER_13: And in technical terms, in the college football statistical technical terms, Marion Die gets a tackle, but he does not receive a sack on a play that to the naked eye is clearly a quarterback sack.
- 41:45SPEAKER_22: Yep, and it's the it's ruled the same way in high school.
- 41:47SPEAKER_22: Those two rules that it doesn't rule that way in the National Football League, but that's how it's ruled at the high school level, and that's how it's ruled at the college level.
- 41:55SPEAKER_22: The the college game needs to tweak their stats on how sacks are done in a lot of ways.
- 42:01SPEAKER_22: I would like to see them go more to the NFL model.
- 42:04SPEAKER_13: Where the yardage just it does not count as a carry for the rusher, the yardage just comes out of, or in that case would go into the passing yards for the team.
- 42:15SPEAKER_22: Yeah, because I think it's a more accurate depiction of what the stats look like.
- 42:18SPEAKER_22: Right.
- 42:19SPEAKER_22: Because you can't call a sack a rush because the quarterback never had any intention of running the football there, particularly if it's a non-mobile quarterback, so it should come off his passing totals there.
- 42:29SPEAKER_22: But yeah, it's he doesn't get a tackle for loss, he doesn't get a sack, it's a forward rushing yardage play.
- 42:37SPEAKER_22: It adds to Auburn's rushing total, but they don't end up with the football at the end of the play.
- 42:41SPEAKER_13: Poor.
- 42:42SPEAKER_13: It's poor.
- 42:44SPEAKER_13: Get with it.
- 42:45SPEAKER_13: Okay.
- 42:46SPEAKER_13: How is this Arkansas team that we will see on Saturday in Fayetteville different than the team Tennessee saw last October in Knoxville?
- 42:57SPEAKER_22: Whether they're trying to be more physical, they're trying to run the ball, and they have a weapon at receiver and Chris Marshall.
- 43:05SPEAKER_22: Marshall, if he went to the combine, he's not gonna put up Cam Coleman numbers probably at the combine.
- 43:11SPEAKER_22: But from a production standpoint and a receiver receiver standpoint, probably the best receiver Tennessee's played to this point.
- 43:17SPEAKER_22: Wow.
- 43:17SPEAKER_22: I mean, he had a hundred yards receiving against Georgia.
- 43:20SPEAKER_22: Um he had nearly a hundred yards against Texas AM.
- 43:23SPEAKER_22: They are gonna feed him the ball.
- 43:25SPEAKER_22: And so a year ago, they were throwing it all over the place, they're doing a bunch of different stuff and trying to you know figure out what they were gonna do with the quarterback and everything else.
- 43:34SPEAKER_22: They want to get the Boise State transfer, who originally signed with AM out of high school, the football in a million different ways.
- 43:41SPEAKER_22: And and he can go vertical, he can catch the shallow understuff, he can body you up.
- 43:47SPEAKER_22: They will get him the ball as many different ways as they can on Saturday.
- 43:51SPEAKER_22: He is the kind of the key for what you want to stop defensively if you're Jim Knowles.
- 43:56SPEAKER_22: Now, you do that by getting pressure on the quarterback and you do a lot of other things there, but That's a guy they're going to force the ball to that Tennessee's got to defend.
- 44:03SPEAKER_13: Arkansas's quarterback is KJ Jackson.
- 44:06SPEAKER_13: And this is a guy who's highly recruited out of Montgomery, Alabama.
- 44:09SPEAKER_13: He's finally their starter as a junior.
- 44:13SPEAKER_13: I think about playing against Byron Brown, who is the ultimate running quarterback, the ultimate mobile quarterback.
- 44:19SPEAKER_13: Do you think that helps Tennessee this week in terms of the players being able to focus on the game plan, understanding that at least some of what they had to do against Brown, they'll have to do against Jackson?
- 44:30SPEAKER_22: I think the translation is in the front seven.
- 44:32SPEAKER_22: And what I mean by that is you have to stay disciplined in your rush lanes.
- 44:37SPEAKER_22: You cannot cheat and try to make an individual play by cheating inside and giving up the corner.
- 44:43SPEAKER_22: Like if you're responsible for setting the edge in the pass rush, you got to stay outside and set the edge because Jackson will run.
- 44:51SPEAKER_22: And they will design run some stuff for him, not to the degree of Byron Brown.
- 44:55SPEAKER_22: He throws it better than Byron Brown.
- 44:57SPEAKER_22: But he will run.
- 44:58SPEAKER_22: And he, I mean, you look at him, he's been their leading rusher, second leading rusher all season long.
- 45:03SPEAKER_22: So they will run him by design some, not as much as Brown.
- 45:06SPEAKER_22: So what did Tennessee do a really good job of, with the exception of two runs really on Saturday, is they stayed in their lanes.
- 45:14SPEAKER_22: They didn't get out gap.
- 45:15SPEAKER_22: They didn't get out of position and get caught up in a you know a blind side block, so to speak, or get caught up in the wash, if you will.
- 45:24SPEAKER_22: They've got to do a good job of that.
- 45:25SPEAKER_22: So there's the translation from last week to this week is just how you rush the quarterback because he will get out and run.
- 45:32SPEAKER_22: Agree or disagree.
- 45:34SPEAKER_13: Arkansas has better backs than Auburn.
- 45:38SPEAKER_22: Uh I think, yes, I think they have a better run game in general than uh Auburn.
- 45:45SPEAKER_22: I think they trust their backs more.
- 45:46SPEAKER_22: I think they're gonna give their backs the ball more, try to be a little more balanced in the run game.
- 45:51SPEAKER_22: It felt like Auburn just got into a little bit of I don't want to call it high school, but this is our best player.
- 45:59SPEAKER_14: Yeah.
- 45:59SPEAKER_22: He's got to have the ball.
- 46:00SPEAKER_22: Whatever.
- 46:00SPEAKER_22: He's either gonna throw it or he's gonna run it.
- 46:02SPEAKER_22: We wanted in his hands every single play.
- 46:05SPEAKER_22: They didn't have a whole lot of trust in what they were doing with their running back.
- 46:07SPEAKER_13: Although the Mapeson kid played well for it.
- 46:09SPEAKER_22: I thought so, too.
- 46:10SPEAKER_13: I don't understand why they don't lean on him more.
- 46:12SPEAKER_22: I agree.
- 46:12SPEAKER_22: Because to me, to me, can I know Brown's a big guy, but with that schedule coming up, is he gonna hold up all your life asking him to do what he's doing?
- 46:20SPEAKER_22: Mapson is tough.
- 46:21SPEAKER_22: He's a stump, man.
- 46:22SPEAKER_22: Yeah, he is.
- 46:22SPEAKER_22: Tough runner.
- 46:23SPEAKER_22: Yep.
- 46:23SPEAKER_13: Good stuff.
- 46:24SPEAKER_13: Thank you, sir.
- 46:24SPEAKER_13: Red Hub's big orange rewind from this weekend's victory over Auburn.
- 46:28SPEAKER_13: He'll be back with us Thursday on the show.
- 46:30SPEAKER_13: Coming up next, the young man who made the expensive field goal before the Texas game is a really neat kid and a really good story.
- 46:40SPEAKER_13: Alexi Cowan has it for us next on the Mike Keith show, delivered by Ubreed.
- 46:46SPEAKER_13: Stay with us.
- 46:47SPEAKER_11: Mike Keith, Mike Keith, Mike Keith.
- 46:50SPEAKER_11: Back with more Big Orange Insider Access.
- 46:53SPEAKER_11: We are the Ball Network.
- 46:59SPEAKER_13: There were a lot of famous ball fans at the win over Auburn on Saturday.
- 47:05SPEAKER_13: Leanne Morgan celebrated her birthday at Neeland Stadium with her family and friends.
- 47:11SPEAKER_13: How about Ricky Morton from the Rock and Roll Express, the Hall of Fame tag team?
- 47:16SPEAKER_13: He was there.
- 47:17SPEAKER_13: So was one of Tennessee's college football hall of famers, Big John Henderson.
- 47:24SPEAKER_13: And Colby Lamb was there too.
- 47:28SPEAKER_13: Colby is newly famous after he attended the Tennessee Texas game.
- 47:34SPEAKER_13: After that contest, Colby has some dollars in his pocket and helped the Pat Summit Foundation's bank account in the process too.
- 47:44SPEAKER_13: Alexi Khaled shares the second part of this story, complete, with a special surprise.
- 47:52SPEAKER_25: It was an offer he couldn't refuse when Colby Lamb's raffle number was called by college game day staff in Knoxville.
- 48:01SPEAKER_02: Mine was 0817.
- 48:02SPEAKER_02: I will never forget that.
- 48:04SPEAKER_25: If the University of Tennessee sophomore could make a field goal kick, he would become a millionaire.
- 48:10SPEAKER_25: But there was more on the line than just that.
- 48:13SPEAKER_05: $500,000 to the Pet Summit Foundation to benefit all the time.
- 48:19SPEAKER_05: Okay, the Pet Summit Foundation.
- 48:22SPEAKER_24: We had a little bit of a heads up from one of our honorary co-chairs, Peyton Manning, that he had made an ask for us to be the philanthropic recipient of this gift.
- 48:35SPEAKER_24: So we kind of knew that you know there was a chance, but it all depends on the kicker.
- 48:49SPEAKER_25: A loan kick from a stranger, but a fellow Vol, the Pat Summit Foundation gained$500,000 right before their 15th anniversary.
- 48:59SPEAKER_02: I'm just super happy that like my blessing is gonna bless so many others.
- 49:03SPEAKER_02: You know, I just want to change people's lives.
- 49:05SPEAKER_25: Oh, and he will so much that the Pat Summit Foundation was desperate to meet the man behind the kick and show their appreciation.
- 49:14SPEAKER_24: We are desperately trying to get a hold of him.
- 49:17SPEAKER_24: Um we are trying to find his contact information.
- 49:21SPEAKER_24: So if I could get a hold of him, yeah, I have his number.
- 49:34SPEAKER_17: Hi, Colby!
- 49:36SPEAKER_26: Hello, hello.
- 49:41SPEAKER_26: I'm just so happy to be here, guys.
- 49:42SPEAKER_26: Colby, nice to meet you.
- 49:44SPEAKER_26: Colby.
- 49:45SPEAKER_24: Our goal is to reach and impact as many families across the country as we possibly can who are who are battling this disease.
- 49:53SPEAKER_24: And um, that kick, just so you know, that half million dollars that you secured for the Pat Summit Foundation, that is the equivalent to us providing program for caregivers for two years.
- 50:04SPEAKER_24: That's awesome.
- 50:05SPEAKER_24: So you did that.
- 50:06SPEAKER_24: We want to welcome you to the championship team.
- 50:09SPEAKER_24: To the Summit team.
- 50:11SPEAKER_24: Okay?
- 50:11SPEAKER_24: That's amazing.
- 50:12SPEAKER_24: Number eight for the number of championships that Pat won, and you are officially part of this team.
- 50:18SPEAKER_24: So we cannot thank you.
- 50:19SPEAKER_24: I'm truly announced.
- 50:20SPEAKER_24: That's so us.
- 50:21SPEAKER_24: Thank you so much.
- 50:23SPEAKER_08: Oh my gosh.
- 50:25SPEAKER_25: Not just the foundation, Colby had a special supporter show up as well.
- 50:31SPEAKER_25: That's my mom.
- 50:32SPEAKER_24: Is that your mom?
- 50:34SPEAKER_24: Momate, can I just say you have raised an excellent son?
- 50:40SPEAKER_24: I I hope my boys turn out as good as that.
- 50:44SPEAKER_25: So Pat watches on as her legacy of compassion and philanthropy keeps showing up at Tennessee.
- 50:51SPEAKER_25: Through her foundation, people like Peyton Manning, and regular students like Colby.
- 50:58SPEAKER_24: Colby, I would say your life changed the moment that you made that second kick, but you changed the lives of millions of Americans.
- 51:06SPEAKER_24: There are over seven million Americans battling Alzheimer's disease, and over 12 million Americans providing long-term care for them.
- 51:15SPEAKER_24: So the gift that you made sure we got is going to go to programs and initiatives that directly impact those individuals.
- 51:23SPEAKER_24: So thank you so much.
- 51:27SPEAKER_13: That's gonna do it for the Monday edition of the Mike Keith Show delivered by Uber Eats, repeating the top two headlines of the day.
- 51:34SPEAKER_13: Josh Heipel did not announce a starting quarterback for Tennessee and Arkansas this weekend at his press conference.
- 51:43SPEAKER_13: Did not sound like he's going to be making any sort of announcement this week.
- 51:47SPEAKER_13: And the Tennessee Alabama game time for October 17th has been announced.
- 51:52SPEAKER_13: 3 30 Eastern, 2 30 Central.
- 51:55SPEAKER_13: The Vols and the Tide, both wearing their home colors for the first time since 1970.
- 52:01SPEAKER_13: Again, it'll kick off at Neeland Stadium at 3:30 Eastern, 230 Central on October the 17th.
- 52:09SPEAKER_11: For our fine staff, Mike Keith, thank you for joining us, and we'll see you next time.com.
- 52:26SPEAKER_11: We are the Ball Network.
