- 0:00Speaker 1: It's your early morning praise party. I am Sherry Mackie,
- 0:04Speaker 1: and it's time right now, on this Christmas Eve, for
- 0:09Speaker 1: today's word. And today, instead of just giving you a word,
- 0:13Speaker 1: I want to read you a poem. It's called Twas
- 0:16Speaker 1: the Night before Jesus came. Twas the night before Jesus came.
- 0:21Speaker 1: And all through the house, not a creature was praying,
- 0:25Speaker 1: not one in the house. Their bibles were laying on
- 0:29Speaker 1: the shelf without care and hopes that Jesus would not
- 0:33Speaker 1: come there. The children were dressing to crawl into bed,
- 0:38Speaker 1: not once ever kneeling or bowing ahead. And Mom and
- 0:42Speaker 1: her rocker, with baby on her lap, was watching the
- 0:45Speaker 1: late show while I took a nap. When out of
- 0:48Speaker 1: the east there a roll such a clatter. I sprang
- 0:51Speaker 1: to my feet to see what was the matter. Away
- 0:55Speaker 1: in the window, I flew like a flash to open
- 0:59Speaker 1: the shutter and threw up the sash. When what, to
- 1:03Speaker 1: my wondering I should appear, but angels proclaiming that Jesus
- 1:09Speaker 1: was here, with a light like the sun, sending forth
- 1:12Speaker 1: a bright ray. I knew in a moment this must
- 1:15Speaker 1: be the day. The light of his face made me
- 1:19Speaker 1: cover my head. It was Jesus returning, just like he
- 1:24Speaker 1: had said. And although I possessed wordly wisdom and wealth,
- 1:28Speaker 1: I cried when I saw him, in spite of myself.
- 1:31Speaker 1: In the Book of Life, which he held in his hand,
- 1:34Speaker 1: was written the name of every saved man. He spoke
- 1:38Speaker 1: not a word as he searched for my name. When
- 1:40Speaker 1: he said it's not here, my head hung in shame.
- 1:45Speaker 1: The people whose name had been written with love he
- 1:48Speaker 1: gathered to take to his father above. With those who
- 1:52Speaker 1: were ready. He rose without a sound, while all the
- 1:56Speaker 1: rest were left standing around. I fell to my But
- 2:00Speaker 1: it was too late. I had waited too long, and
- 2:03Speaker 1: this sealed my fate. I stood and I cried as
- 2:07Speaker 1: I rose out of sight. Oh, if only I had
- 2:10Speaker 1: been ready tonight. In the words of this poem, the
- 2:15Speaker 1: meaning is clear. The coming of Jesus is drawing near.
- 2:19Speaker 1: There's only one life. When comes the last call, we'll
- 2:22Speaker 1: find that the Bible was true. After all. It's Christmas Eve,
- 2:28Speaker 1: twas the night before Jesus came. It's early morning praise party.
- 2:33Speaker 1: I am Sherry Mackie. Be ready, y'all,
