Speaker 2: Hey guys, welcome back to another episode of the Pelvic PT Rising podcast with Jesse and Nicole Cozine.
• 0:58
  Speaker 2: Hey, nicole, hello.
• 0:59
Speaker 2: So we are talking shit that needs to be said business edition today.
• 1:03
Speaker 2: This one is a we did a shit that needs to be said in general about six months ago.
• 1:09
Speaker 2: That one holds a little special place in our hearts.
• 1:11
Speaker 2: We got a ton of great feedback from you guys.
• 1:13
Speaker 2: It obviously is pretty on brand for us to just say the things that no one else is willing to say and just be really honest and transparent about stuff, and that was one of the first ones where we were kind of coming out of after clay no sleep fog and I feel like we just woke up and actually got a decent night's sleep and we're like dude, let's get fired up here.
• 1:33
Speaker 3: Yeah, I feel like I had my sparkle back and my spunk back, so that was really great, and we're due for another episode.
• 1:40
Speaker 3: It's been almost a year since clay was born.
• 1:44
Speaker 3: His birthday is at the end of the month of December and we're excited, so we will also just as little foreshadowing have a clinicians edition as well.
• 1:54
Speaker 3: This is business owners edition.
• 1:58
  Speaker 2: Yes.
• 1:58
Speaker 2: So shit that needs to be said before we dive in.
• 2:01
Speaker 2: Just one announcement If you are a business owner and have a practice, the business accelerator we are doing.
• 2:08
Speaker 2: A second cohort of that is now starting in January.
• 2:11
Speaker 2: So if you want to take your business to the next level, it is a six month coaching intensive program.
• 2:16
Speaker 2: We've had 130 plus people go through it already.
• 2:20
Speaker 2: We've seen some incredible results from their businesses and just been able to really short cut the whole process.
• 2:27
Speaker 2: And if you guys are interested in learning more about that and make sure to get on the wait list at pelvicptrisingcom slash accelerator.
• 2:33
Speaker 2: Once you get on that little wait list, we will reach out, ask you some questions, make sure that it feels like a good fit for you guys.
• 2:40
Speaker 2: But we are so excited about that and coming into 2024, having to show that you have a different business at the end of the year than you have right now.
• 2:47
Speaker 2: So if that's on your goals list, be taking a look at that.
• 2:51
Speaker 2: So, nicole, shit that needs to be said.
• 2:53
Speaker 2: Business edition Business ownership isn't for everyone.
• 2:57
  Speaker 3: It really isn't.
• 2:57
Speaker 3: You, guys, and I feel like this is something that you can, especially with, like Instagram algorithms, and you can be feeling like you're getting bombarded by all of this stuff being like you can do it, and if you're not happy at your current job, the only other thing to do is start your business.
• 3:15
Speaker 3: It's so easy and, let me tell you, it is not for everybody.
• 3:21
Speaker 3: Not every single person should start their own business, and while I believe that cash based pelvic floor physical therapy and occupational therapy is the wave of the future, I do not think that everybody should start their own business.
• 3:34
Speaker 3: And even if you are the kind of person that would be successful at starting your own business, it might not be the right time, and one of the really cool, exciting things about where our field is going is that there are more people starting their own businesses and also creating really awesome jobs, so you can still be an employee, treat patients the way that you want to be treated and not have to start your own business because it is not for the faint of heart.
• 4:01
Speaker 2: And let me break two other myths that are associated with that.
• 4:05
Speaker 2: One is that you won't necessarily make more money as a business owner than you would as an employee.
• 4:10
Speaker 2: There is the potential to make more money, but a lot of times people find that it is a substantial pay cut, and I know a lot of you guys out there who have been thinking about it.
• 4:19
Speaker 2: Or just do the math right when it's like I'm seeing 40 patients a week.
• 4:22
Speaker 2: Now, if I just got all of that money, instead of my percentage of that money or my paycheck, then I would be doing I'd be making a million dollars a year and you completely forget it's really hard to get 40 people on your schedule, that you still have to schedule them, that you're calling patients, you're moving people around, you're doing all the admin work.
• 4:42
Speaker 2: At best, if you are a solopreneur, 25 patients a week is cranking.
• 4:48
Speaker 2: So if you think about that and most people end up in that struggling to get patients that especially for the first few years of your business, you actually are very likely to be earning less than you would have been working at another place.
• 5:00
Speaker 3: And yeah, this is another myth.
• 5:02
Speaker 3: We got a bust, too, about business ownership isn't for everybody.
• 5:05
Speaker 3: But, like, if you're looking for work-life balance, very likely if you start your own business, you're going to be working more, not less, especially at the beginning.
• 5:15
Speaker 3: So this notion that it's like immediately going to be grasses greener and this like amazing utopia of business ownership and you're going to immediately be making $200,000 a year, like just, is not going to happen.
• 5:31
Speaker 3: So we need to be realistic about doing this and just understand it's not for everyone and it's certainly not for everybody at every season of their life.
• 5:40
Speaker 3: All that being said, we still feel like it can be really awesome and empowering and it's the right choice for a lot of us, but it's certainly not the right choice for everyone.
• 5:50
Speaker 2: And don't do it because it looks easy or it looks cool, or it just seems like that's what you want to do, or Uncle Fred is pushing you to do it at the dinner table at Thanksgiving.
• 5:58
Speaker 2: Right, you got to decide, and going into it for the right reasons will make all of the difference as you're growing.
• 6:04
Speaker 2: But if you're going in because you think it's easy money or way less work, those are not good reasons to start your own business.
• 6:12
Speaker 2: Number two here we've got you will be pushed out of your comfort zone, and we've said this before.
• 6:17
Speaker 2: It's worth saying again that owning a business is going to force you to confront every scarcity mindset thing, that you've got, all of your money mindset issues, all of your imposter syndrome, all of your discomfort in charging a late cancellation fee and talking about money, in having difficult conversations, in reaching out to strangers and saying, hey, hi, do you want to go get lunch?
• 6:43
Speaker 2: And, by the way, will you please give me patience.
• 6:44
Speaker 2: All of that stuff.
• 6:46
  Speaker 3: Totally.
• 6:46
Speaker 3: Also, I have been on the even a more crazy personal growth journey, since you have employees.
• 6:54
Speaker 3: So if you're gonna have employees, you want to times that by a thousand and want to go ahead and sign up for your mental health therapist immediately, because it's no fucking joke, you guys.
• 7:04
Speaker 3: And if you're not ready for that, again, please see number one.
• 7:07
Speaker 3: But, as business ownership isn't for everybody, but you will be confronted with all of the biggest negative traits that you have about yourself that exist Like they are going to shine very brightly in your own business unless you know how to dampen that light.
• 7:26
Speaker 2: Yes, and that's one of the things that we love, nicole, about mentorship is seeing that personal growth.
• 7:31
Speaker 2: We always say business growth is personal growth and we've had people who came in they were afraid to even talk about their personal finances and didn't really know how to do that and hadn't had any of those conversations growing up and didn't know anything about that.
• 7:43
Speaker 2: To now they're like hey, I just fully funded my 401k for this year.
• 7:47
Speaker 2: Should I do something?
• 7:48
Speaker 2: And like that's really cool to see that growth, or the growth and having difficult conversations and being able to initiate those confidently and really feel like your business is authentic to you.
• 8:01
Speaker 2: Those are really cool things, but they require personal growth.
• 8:04
Speaker 2: They're not quick fixes, they're not overnight things and that's going to be a long term thing as you work through worse to working through a lot of our own shit, guys, and it's been eight years and we've obviously thought really deeply about this.
• 8:15
Speaker 2: We've gotten help with it, we've had our own mentorship and we're still working through our own issues.
• 8:20
Speaker 2: So don't want to pretend that that is going to be easy, kind of.
• 8:24
Speaker 2: Along with that, be careful who you take advice from, and I think we live in this amazing time for business when there's so many resources out there, there's so many different ways that you can go, but there's also a platform for people who, frankly, have no idea what the fuck they're talking about.
• 8:40
Speaker 3: Yeah, man, y'all's bullshit needer needs to be recalibrated on the ASAP, because it is getting more and more prevalent and the more people that are going to be going into the cash base world.
• 8:52
Speaker 3: That means that there's more opportunity for business folks to share what they think they can help you with.
• 8:58
Speaker 3: And you just need to do just.
• 9:01
Speaker 3: I'm just saying recalibrate your bullshit meter, because if it's too good to be true, it probably is.
• 9:07
Speaker 3: And if somebody is only saying to you look at me, I did this thing, you can do it to you and you should do it how I did it, that's some bullshit.
• 9:18
Speaker 2: Right, and that even that's one step above.
• 9:20
Speaker 2: Some of what we see out.
• 9:21
Speaker 2: There is, people haven't built anything for themselves.
• 9:23
Speaker 2: Yes, I haven't built a business at all, but here let me tell you how to do yours.
• 9:28
Speaker 2: We've literally had people say to us it was more difficult to run my own business and I couldn't make that successful, so I started trying to coach other people.
• 9:38
Speaker 3: I was like I literally heard those words.
• 9:40
Speaker 2: I was like do you hear yourself?
• 9:41
Speaker 3: From somebody where we were like you will not have a sustainable business in the next three months if this is the way that you continue.
• 9:48
Speaker 3: And they were like, oh, that's OK, Because I think I'm just going to scale back and go into coaching.
• 9:53
Speaker 3: And we're like, OK, bye, that exists out there y'all.
• 9:59
Speaker 3: And we're just going to say your bullshit meter needs to be recalibrated ASAP.
• 10:04
Speaker 2: Yes, especially as a business owner.
• 10:06
Speaker 2: Number four there's no magic formula that you need to find and this one feels like a little bit nebulous, but I think some of us are always searching.
• 10:14
Speaker 2: You guys might feel this.
• 10:16
Speaker 2: It feels like there's something out there.
• 10:18
Speaker 2: There's some magic system, there's some Facebook ad thing or some YouTube thing.
• 10:23
Speaker 2: Or you just need to write a shit ton of blog post in this perfect way for your SEO, or you just need to pay this person to do $10,000 of work on your website and somehow quote unquote optimize it for SEO, whatever the hell that means other than just jacking up the price of things.
• 10:37
Speaker 2: But there is no magic formula that you need to find.
• 10:41
Speaker 3: Yeah, and you're not missing anything.
• 10:43
Speaker 3: Sometimes, I mean, there's something to be said for getting mentorship and understanding.
• 10:47
Speaker 3: We're going to go into that here in a second.
• 10:49
Speaker 3: Another thing that needs shit that needs to be said.
• 10:51
Speaker 3: But you're not missing out on some magic thing that's going to make your business go to the next level.
• 10:58
Speaker 3: And if you hear that, that's good marketing.
• 11:02
Speaker 3: They're preying on what they call pain points.
• 11:06
Speaker 3: They know that people out there think that they're missing something and so they're speaking to that pain point and then selling you whatever they have on the back end.
• 11:15
Speaker 3: That is some bullshit.
• 11:16
Speaker 3: Please see number three.
• 11:18
  Speaker 2: Yeah.
• 11:19
Speaker 2: So if you are constantly on search, that we see that so much of oh, I did this program and I didn't get what I needed, and then I did this, and then I did this, and then I'm jumping over here and now I need to focus on this, and a lot of times it's because we have that mental image or that block, even that there's some sort of magic formula or, like Nicole said, something that you are missing.
• 11:37
Speaker 2: Number five we've got is you're going to have to find a balance between your finances and your lifestyle, between your revenue and the amount of time that you're working.
• 11:46
Speaker 2: And this is why I really hate when people start talking about, like, oh my gosh, you're trading time for money.
• 11:51
Speaker 2: Yeah, no shit, that's what work is.
• 11:55
Speaker 2: It's that when you're working for someone else, it's that when you're working in a business.
• 11:59
Speaker 2: So when people are sitting there and saying like, oh, you shouldn't be trading your time for money, like what are you talking about?
• 12:05
Speaker 2: You're going to have basically, especially in the first few years of your business, a decision to make on how much you want to work versus how much you're going to be able to make, and you're gonna have to decide what that balance is, but you don't get it both ways.
• 12:20
Speaker 2: You don't have your cake and eat it too.
• 12:22
Speaker 2: Where you can work way less and make way more when you're seeing the patience as a sole prener, your revenue is capped by the number of people you want to see.
• 12:31
Speaker 3: Yeah, there is no like again, you're not missing anything.
• 12:34
Speaker 3: There's some fundamental things about living in a capitalistic society and it's like if you work more, you usually get paid more and there is something to be said for making your time more efficient and stuff like that.
• 12:46
Speaker 3: But at the end of the day, especially as you grow like your work is still more, it just becomes different.
• 12:54
Speaker 3: So it's not like Jesse and I because we're doing other things like rising and stuff like that.
• 12:59
Speaker 3: It's like we're still very integrally involved at Pelvic Sanity.
• 13:03
Speaker 3: We might not have like the day-to-day hours in the clinic that we used to have, but we're still very much working at Pelvic Sanity and on.
• 13:13
  Speaker 3: Pelvic Sanity.
• 13:13
Speaker 2: Yes, and that balance still matters because if we wanted to make more money at Pelvic Sanity, nicole, you just go back to treating 45 patients a week 100%.
• 13:21
Speaker 3: The math is simple on that.
• 13:23
Speaker 3: Like again, there is no magic bullet.
• 13:25
Speaker 3: There is a balance between finances and lifestyle, like you just have to decide where you want that teeter totter to fall.
• 13:32
Speaker 2: And I would also say if you've decided that lifestyle is actually more important and that's why a lot of people start a practice right, they want more time, flexibility, they want to be able to be home with family Then you have to understand what that's doing and change your expectation of what you're gonna be making in the practice.
• 13:50
Speaker 2: So it's 100% fine to be saying awesome, I actually started this, I want to make sure that I am there to drop my kids off at school and there to pick them up, or I only work three days a week, but then you can't expect to have this rapid growth curve and have your business be exploding with new clients and patients when you're not able to give, or haven't decided to give it the time that it would need to do that.
• 14:14
Speaker 2: So that's a totally fine trade-off to make, but I think sometimes we just expect that I can do it all and get all of it, and that is a fundamental trade-off in your business between the time you spend and the amount that you make 1000%.
• 14:29
Speaker 3: All right number six.
• 14:30
Speaker 2: Bragging about revenues bullshit.
• 14:32
  Speaker 3: It is bullshit.
• 14:33
Speaker 3: I mean, the big flex is profitability.
• 14:37
Speaker 2: And no one's posting their profitability numbers online.
• 14:39
Speaker 2: I would love to see some people do that, but it's an old joke from the wine industry actually, like the easiest way to make a million dollars in the wine industry is to spend 10 million.
• 14:48
Speaker 2: And then that person gets online.
• 14:50
Speaker 2: It's like hey, I made seven figures this year.
• 14:52
Speaker 2: I'm high six figures, or mid six figures, or 17 figures, whatever the hell you're saying.
• 14:59
Speaker 3: Or I've got two six figure businesses.
• 15:01
Speaker 2: It's like good job.
• 15:01
Speaker 2: I love how people aren't even can we just say numbers?
• 15:03
Speaker 2: Then if you're gonna do that, Like if you're gonna brag about your revenue, like put your revenue out there, then Like, why are we hiding it behind these like weird figures, numbers?
• 15:11
Speaker 2: How many zeros is in your thing?
• 15:13
Speaker 2: Well, my revenue last year has three zeros, six ones and three nines, and you guys can try to guess what it is.
• 15:19
Speaker 2: What the hell are we doing?
• 15:21
Speaker 2: The thing is about profitability.
• 15:23
Speaker 2: So there are places that have generate a ton of revenue that are not very profitable.
• 15:29
Speaker 2: The whole point of running a business, on the financial side at least, is how much of what the business takes in actually ends up in your pocket.
• 15:38
Speaker 2: And so if somebody's got great revenue numbers but they have terrible margins or they have a ton of overhead with different locations, or they are insurance based practice, insurance based practices have huge revenue numbers and very, very low profit numbers.
• 15:52
Speaker 2: So when you see people out there just talking about, oh, bragging on there kind of goes back to what we said earlier too, about if they're bragging on themselves and what they've built instead of what they've helped others build, you gotta be careful about that.
• 16:04
Speaker 2: But then also just recognize that those revenue numbers literally tell you nothing, Literally mean nothing About the health of the business.
• 16:11
  Speaker 3: Zero.
• 16:11
  Speaker 3: They mean nothing.
• 16:13
Speaker 3: It's like really appalling.
• 16:15
Speaker 3: Actually, all right number seven Insurance companies frequently and thrive on doing insurance shenanigans.
• 16:24
Speaker 3: There is so much insurance company bullshit to the point where there have been massive articles, like good evidence based articles, about insurance shenanigans and the amount of denials that they do and the appeals process being a bunch of bullshit, smoke and mirrors, and it's the reason why so many of us are going into this cash based world.
• 16:48
Speaker 3: But if we're in the cash based world, we have to understand that insurance companies do shenanigans.
• 16:53
Speaker 3: So so many people in the entrepreneur group that we run.
• 16:57
Speaker 3: By the way, you can join PTOT entrepreneur group on Facebook.
• 17:00
  Speaker 3: It's free.
• 17:01
Speaker 3: A lot of the people are like this insurance company called me.
• 17:03
Speaker 3: What do I do?
• 17:04
  Speaker 3: Yeah, hang up.
• 17:06
Speaker 3: You don't talk to them, you don't engage.
• 17:09
Speaker 3: That is not who you're working for.
• 17:11
  Speaker 3: Like, stop.
• 17:13
Speaker 3: And I don't understand why we all can't just be like why is the default?
• 17:17
Speaker 3: What am I doing?
• 17:18
Speaker 3: What am I missing?
• 17:19
Speaker 3: And instead, being like insurance companies are fucking bullshit and they're doing shenanigans on purpose to their being confusing to your patients, on purpose.
• 17:28
Speaker 3: They're saying wrong shit on purpose.
• 17:31
Speaker 3: It's hard to navigate on purpose and that's why we decide to go away from them.
• 17:37
Speaker 3: So don't let them pull you back into their stupid bullshit world 100%.
• 17:45
Speaker 2: So if you've made the decision to get out of that, you know again.
• 17:47
Speaker 2: Oh, somebody starts their question with you know, insurance company sent me this thing, what should I do?
• 17:52
Speaker 2: And my response is immediately like oh, what's the problem?
• 17:55
Speaker 2: Is your shredder broken?
• 17:56
Speaker 2: Then go get another shredder.
• 17:58
Speaker 2: That's the only reason you should be asking me a question about why did you even look at it?
• 18:03
Speaker 2: We just get stuff from insurance companies that goes straight into the trash.
• 18:06
Speaker 3: Straight into the trash.
• 18:07
Speaker 3: Now I will say this If you have a patient that is saying my insurance company said you need to do this, I'm sure they did, and guess what?
• 18:17
  Speaker 3: That's also a shenanigan.
• 18:18
Speaker 3: And so a lot of times what we coach people to do in our mentorship programs is get on the patient's side and then make sure that they know that their insurance company is pulling shenanigans on them.
• 18:30
  Speaker 3: And guess who?
• 18:30
Speaker 3: The contract is between the patient and the insurance company, Not us.
• 18:35
Speaker 2: So they need to get back on the phone with the insurance company and I cannot tell you, guys, how many times this happens.
• 18:41
Speaker 2: They get back on the phone, they talk to another person and that person tells them something completely different at the insurance company.
• 18:48
Speaker 2: So sometimes we'll get patients that advice hey, I'm so sorry that the insurance company is jerking you around.
• 18:52
Speaker 2: Just call back and ask to talk to somebody else.
• 18:54
Speaker 2: They'll give you a different answer.
• 18:55
Speaker 2: Hopefully it's a better one than the one you got before.
• 18:57
Speaker 2: Just call enough times.
• 18:59
Speaker 3: They'll tell you what you want to hear Right and then at that point guess whose time it is.
• 19:02
Speaker 3: It's the patient's time and then they get to decide what the value is of that time.
• 19:07
Speaker 3: Is it worth trying to get reimbursed whatever out of network benefit percentage they're going to get reimbursed, or are they just gonna pay 200 bucks and leave it Like that is their decision, that's not ours.
• 19:20
Speaker 2: And how many times have this happens when we actually hear that same thing oh, you guys gotta do this stuff.
• 19:24
Speaker 2: And we put it back on the patient and, oh, yeah, I've got a $5,000 deductible, so I'm never gonna meet that anyway.
• 19:31
Speaker 2: And I was like, well, yeah, it was fine for us to have to sit on the phone with the insurance company, but the moment the patient has to, oh, it's not really worth it, guys.
• 19:39
Speaker 2: So know that you're not doing anything wrong in the insurance company.
• 19:42
Speaker 2: Get your super bills right.
• 19:44
  Speaker 2: First of all.
• 19:45
Speaker 2: Make sure that those are going out correctly.
• 19:47
Speaker 2: Please just send them to all of your people.
• 19:50
Speaker 2: I don't know what this whole thing has become about.
• 19:52
Speaker 2: Like, oh, somebody requests it and whatever.
• 19:54
Speaker 2: Just make sure you've got an EMR pay for the super bill feature.
• 19:57
Speaker 2: If you're not, and give it to all your patients.
• 20:00
Speaker 2: They're going to ask for it, especially this time of year where you always get requests of somebody from January who's like what happened to my super bills?
• 20:08
Speaker 2: Can you do that?
• 20:08
Speaker 2: They're gonna ask for them.
• 20:10
Speaker 2: So, just because I don't understand what we're trying to do with picking and choosing who gets a super bill, just give them to all your people, make sure they're correct and then trust yourself and the insurance company comes back and says your EIN wasn't on there or the code you did wasn't correct.
• 20:23
Speaker 2: You're like, actually it was, you just need to call them back.
• 20:25
  Speaker 3: Totally.
• 20:26
Speaker 3: That's it, number eight.
• 20:28
Speaker 2: Okay, this is kind of another big mindset shift here, but no one is out to get you and I don't know where this comes from.
• 20:34
Speaker 2: I think this is just like a business owner thing.
• 20:36
Speaker 2: I think there's some of this in the PT world, there's some of this in the business owner world, and then they combine in this like tornado of fear and anxiety, the number of times we get questions about oh my gosh, I haven't had a privacy policy on my website.
• 20:49
Speaker 2: What's going to happen to me?
• 20:50
  Speaker 2: I was like I don't know.
• 20:51
Speaker 2: I mean, how many of your friends are in privacy policy jail?
• 20:55
Speaker 3: Well, this is the thing.
• 20:55
Speaker 3: I actually have a inkling as to where this comes from.
• 20:58
Speaker 3: It comes from fricking PT school, where they have a bunch of people who haven't been in the clinic and God knows how long, teaching you guys about how you're going to get sued and making sure you document for all of the things, and no one's consulting any fucking lawyers on this, and so we get out of school.
• 21:14
Speaker 3: We're thinking that everybody's going to like is just waiting for us to make a mistake so we can go to jail or get our license taken away or whatever.
• 21:21
Speaker 3: No one's out to get us, and the APTA and any other fricking governing body organization is such a shit show that they're not going to be able to govern the amount of people that they have.
• 21:32
  Speaker 3: It's just bullshit.
• 21:33
Speaker 3: It's all fricking smoke and mirrors.
• 21:35
Speaker 3: So you need to make sure you're doing the things that are right in your practice act that are right legally, that making sure, for instance, if you're a hip a covered entity, you do hip a covered things.
• 21:47
Speaker 3: If you're not a hip a covered entity, you don't have to do hip a covered things and like stuff like that.
• 21:52
Speaker 3: Make sure your T's are crossed, your eyes are dotted and then leave it to leave it alone and stop fucking worrying about it.
• 21:58
Speaker 2: Right and you know, if you're no one is actually searching you out and trying to go after small pelvic, cash-based practices.
• 22:07
Speaker 3: Well and this was a really highlighted when the Good Faith Estimate came out, Do you remember?
• 22:11
Speaker 3: Everyone was in a fucking frenzy about it, and it didn't even the whole law and think about how government works Like what a fricking shit show.
• 22:19
  Speaker 3: That is right.
• 22:20
Speaker 3: So they made this law trying to protect patients and we happen to be under the umbrella of people that may be under this big umbrella and then but the intent and purpose of the law had nothing to do with the things that we're doing.
• 22:34
Speaker 3: So cash-based practice is, by definition, giving people a fucking good faith estimate because we tell people exactly how much they need to pay.
• 22:41
Speaker 3: The whole point of the Good Faith Estimate was to make sure that people weren't getting surprise bills.
• 22:46
  Speaker 3: Guess what?
• 22:47
Speaker 3: Nobody at pelvic floor PT gets cash-based therapy gets surprise bills.
• 22:53
Speaker 3: They pay for it at the time of service right, so like it can't, even if we're not abiding by the policy, somebody would have to say, hey, I got a wrong amount.
• 23:02
Speaker 3: And then you're gonna be like, no, you didn't, you paid me the money that for the value of the service that you got.
• 23:07
Speaker 3: And they're like, oh yeah, end of story, like.
• 23:10
Speaker 3: But I think that when we have this mindset that like, oh, someone's gonna be out to get me, they're gonna they have this whole big organization that's doing audits and all this stuff.
• 23:19
Speaker 3: It's like, oh, my goodness, very likely not.
• 23:22
Speaker 3: So just make sure you are doing the very best that you can and no one's out to get you, it's all gonna be fine.
• 23:30
Speaker 2: It's all gonna be fine.
• 23:31
Speaker 2: That really is where it comes down.
• 23:33
Speaker 2: Do the best you can and then let the chips fall where they may.
• 23:36
Speaker 3: You know, another place we see this just really quickly is people are like oh my God, I don't see Medicare patients.
• 23:42
Speaker 3: And then somebody accidentally goes and they thought they didn't think they had Medicare and they actually do.
• 23:48
Speaker 3: And now I give them a super bill and oh no, it's like right, oh, no, people make mistakes.
• 23:52
Speaker 3: You were working off of certain information, like, that's okay, no one is going to get you in trouble for that.
• 23:59
Speaker 3: And especially when there's like a logical series of events that like led you to make that mistake, you're allowed to make mistakes too.
• 24:07
Speaker 3: It's okay, everything's gonna be fine, right.
• 24:09
Speaker 2: And think about some of these like actual con artists that last for years with this stuff, when they should have made like, if you're really worried about the N-Rond was running crazy things with financials and getting written out, I mean, for years.
• 24:20
Speaker 2: And this is like a multinational, huge corporation, like no one is providing that level of scrutiny for us small businesses.
• 24:27
Speaker 2: Number nine, nicole, this is a big passion one for us hiring just because you're busy or because you want to make a bunch more money and you think that's going to be the way to do it, or because it sounds great to sit on the beach drinking a Mai Tai as everybody back at the office slaves away for you.
• 24:43
Speaker 3: Yeah, this is just some bullshit.
• 24:45
Speaker 3: This is some shit that needs to be said.
• 24:46
Speaker 3: Hiring simply and only because you are busy is not a reason to completely upend your entire business structure as a solopreneur and introduce so many variables that will put you on the most crazy personal growth journey of your life.
• 25:03
Speaker 3: That is not the reason to do it Now.
• 25:05
Speaker 3: If you want to grow beyond yourself, if you want to reach more patients, there's, for sure, reasons why you would want to hire and grow beyond yourself.
• 25:13
Speaker 3: We're not saying that that's a bad idea.
• 25:15
Speaker 3: What we are saying, though, is that you can't make that decision only because you're busy or your waitlist is really long.
• 25:21
Speaker 3: You really have to sit with.
• 25:23
Speaker 3: Do you want to do that?
• 25:25
Speaker 3: Because I will tell you, and if any of my staff, clinicians or employees are listening to this podcast, I love you all, but y'all give me gray hair and are the source of some of my most amounts of anxiety and frustration.
• 25:39
Speaker 3: Sometimes that's a me thing, for sure, but it is not an easy road managing people.
• 25:45
Speaker 3: You really have to have a passion for what you're doing.
• 25:49
Speaker 3: You have to have a vision that extends beyond make more money, because that's not necessarily what's going to happen, especially at the beginning, and remember you're not going to just make more money for less work.
• 26:01
Speaker 3: It's just a different type of work and responsibility.
• 26:05
Speaker 3: So really think deeply about if you want to grow beyond yourself.
• 26:08
Speaker 3: There is a lot to be said for our happy as a little clam stage, which is that blissful state of solopreneurship that we wish for anybody who wants to stay there.
• 26:19
Speaker 3: That is a very valid place of business that you can just stay.
• 26:25
Speaker 2: All right, so we're getting to number 10.
• 26:27
Speaker 2: Our last one on this list is I want to preface this a little bit so, in order to treat patients, you guys all spent seven years in school four and undergrad three-ish in a doctoral level program.
• 26:43
Speaker 2: You got a doctorate degree.
• 26:44
Speaker 2: You spent seven whole years.
• 26:47
Speaker 2: You spent somewhere between 100 and 250k depending on where you went to school and all of those things, which is a whole nother podcast for a different day.
• 26:54
Speaker 2: I want to rack it.
• 26:55
Speaker 2: All of that is You're taking con ed courses all the time $2,000, $3,000, $4,000 a year of con ed and all of that to be able to be a competent treating clinician.
• 27:07
Speaker 2: And then you guys go into business and the sum total of what you have heard or known or done with business training is listening to a podcast Maybe two Guys, and our podcast is freaking great.
• 27:22
Speaker 2: And I'm so excited when you guys write in and say something like you know we inspired you to do this or you know we gave you the confidence, like that means literally the world to us.
• 27:29
Speaker 2: I am so thrilled when we hear from you guys, but you can't get all of the business training you need from a podcast or from a Buzzsprout article on seven things great businesses always do, or the biography you read once about Steve Jobs.
• 27:44
Speaker 3: Yeah, you surely can't get individualized help on what you should do for your business through any honestly free resource and there are a lot of good ones out there.
• 27:55
Speaker 3: We put out stuff that's free like that, including this podcast.
• 27:58
Speaker 3: Like Jesse said, we're stoked to do that.
• 28:00
Speaker 3: But I cannot believe the amount of people that spend money on clinical con ed in order to treat patients when the ROI is literally like more confidence, like not even necessarily better outcomes.
• 28:17
Speaker 3: No, con-ed course is like saying you're gonna get better outcomes, so the ROI is much more nebulous.
• 28:24
Speaker 3: On a clinical con-ed course, you all have no problem spending way a ton of money on that stuff.
• 28:29
Speaker 3: And then the second that you go into business you ask like how much is that?
• 28:34
Speaker 3: Oh, that's pretty expensive.
• 28:35
Speaker 3: Like $600 a month, $1,000 a month, $1,500 a month that's pretty expensive and it's like right, but what else are you investing in to better yourself for a shit that you have no fucking clue about?
• 28:49
Speaker 3: That's like going to treat a patient and being like, wow, your hip's fucked up and you're gonna be like yep, like I don't know what I'm gonna do about that.
• 28:57
Speaker 3: Let me go listen to a podcast on hips and see if I can help you If that happened to in a patient setting.
• 29:03
Speaker 3: You'd be like, wow, I really need to learn more about this.
• 29:05
Speaker 3: Well, I'd go to my mentor, I'd read about it, I'd go to anatomy book, I'd take a hip course, a Northpita hip course.
• 29:11
Speaker 3: I'd come back and I'd do those things and I'd see how that helps my patient.
• 29:15
Speaker 3: And like, on business, you're not doing that, like I don't understand.
• 29:20
  Speaker 3: We get coaching.
• 29:21
Speaker 3: We get coaching on how to coach you guys.
• 29:23
Speaker 3: We get coaching for our own business.
• 29:25
Speaker 3: So I get coaching for online business, like this shit's hard and there doesn't come with a manual, holy crap.
• 29:31
Speaker 3: And when none of us went to school for it, I can even say that if you didn't do con ed for clinical stuff, at least you have a freaking doctorate degree.
• 29:39
Speaker 3: People that go into business like y'all have MBAs.
• 29:43
Speaker 3: No, jesse's MBA is from where did you even get yours?
• 29:46
Speaker 3: From Fucking Western Governor's University.
• 29:48
Speaker 3: Who even knows if that's a valid school.
• 29:49
  Speaker 2: Go fight Nels.
• 29:50
Speaker 2: It is a valid school.
• 29:52
Speaker 2: Actually, they did have a Canva template for my diploma that I could print out, and no one has ever cut my diploma out of a frame when I got fired.
• 30:00
Speaker 3: True, but anyways so.
• 30:02
Speaker 3: But I mean, he does have an MBA, you guys, but even that is not like real world experience.
• 30:08
Speaker 2: It certainly does not prepare you for running a small business.
• 30:10
Speaker 2: It doesn't prepare you for the niche that you're going into, for understanding all of that stuff.
• 30:14
Speaker 2: So that's why we're so passionate about it.
• 30:16
Speaker 2: I mean, we've now helped 450 plus businesses and it's such a no brainer.
• 30:21
Speaker 2: It was one of the biggest mistakes that we made in our practice and not doing this early on.
• 30:25
Speaker 2: I go back and I cringe that we weren't getting and, frankly, when we were starting that this kind of help wasn't available.
• 30:32
Speaker 2: So I don't feel like as bad.
• 30:34
Speaker 3: Yeah, it was available, but only a couple of people were doing it and it wasn't in our niche, and so we were like, ah shoot, these people are smart people.
• 30:40
Speaker 3: And then also, I'm not gonna do that.
• 30:43
Speaker 3: And so we had to pave the way ourselves.
• 30:45
Speaker 3: But the second that we started to be like, oh, we need to do this.
• 30:49
Speaker 3: We actually had a mentor that was outside of Pelvic Health for a while because there was no person, but we were having guess what employee issues, and so we had to get mentorship on how to freaking deal with that shit.
• 31:01
Speaker 3: And so it's like, again, we cringe at not doing that sooner, not seeking it out sooner.
• 31:09
Speaker 3: Even outside of our industry.
• 31:10
Speaker 3: We could have gleaned a lot of information about that.
• 31:13
Speaker 3: And man doing it now.
• 31:15
Speaker 3: You have so many good resources.
• 31:17
Speaker 3: Are you kidding me?
• 31:18
Speaker 3: I would love to start my own business now.
• 31:20
Speaker 3: It's freaking so awesome.
• 31:23
Speaker 3: What a time to start a Pelvic Health practice.
• 31:25
Speaker 3: And, honestly, you guys, even if you don't do it with us like you, have to invest in that business content, just like y'all do with clinical.
• 31:33
Speaker 2: Yeah, and that's why you guys here we are so passionate about it.
• 31:35
Speaker 2: We want to make this easier for you guys Like it means that more patients are being treated.
• 31:40
Speaker 2: It means that you guys are being able to practice according to your ethos.
• 31:42
Speaker 2: It changes your financial future.
• 31:45
Speaker 2: The ROI on investing in yourself is always crazy high.
• 31:49
Speaker 2: It makes it easier your lifestyle, your efficiency with stuff.
• 31:54
Speaker 2: We eliminate all the time-sucking nonsense, confidence and actually enjoying the process, because it's hard to enjoy the process of growth when you're always feeling like you're missing something or something's around the corner, somebody's out to get you, or that you just don't really know where things are going.
• 32:10
Speaker 2: And you don't have that perspective yet because you haven't been doing it for long enough.
• 32:13
Speaker 2: And we really want to help you guys not only just succeed financially, succeed in creating a business that works for you and your lifestyle, but also enjoy the process and take a lot of that anxiety out of it and be able to do that.
• 32:27
Speaker 2: So if you guys want to do that the entry into our world our mentorship program is the accelerator program that's going on in January.
• 32:36
Speaker 2: Signups will start on December 28th, so those of you guys who are really sharp can actually pay for it in this calendar year and it'll be a tax write-off for you.
• 32:47
Speaker 2: So something to think about for you guys there.
• 32:49
Speaker 2: But if you need to be doing that, then get on the wait list.
• 32:51
Speaker 2: That is the precursor to doing mentorship with us, because that is all of the foundational things.
• 32:57
Speaker 2: So it's six months of jam-packed foundational stuff that is going to transform your business and get you ready for one-on-one mentorship.
• 33:05
  Speaker 2: Following that.
• 33:08
Speaker 3: And I want to just point out that there is no oh this many years in business and you're appropriate for it.
• 33:13
Speaker 3: It's for literally anybody.
• 33:15
Speaker 3: Nobody is too good for it, no one's too successful for it.
• 33:19
  Speaker 2: Absolutely.
• 33:20
Speaker 2: And then some of the biggest transformations we've seen are from bigger practices or people who've been doing it for a longer time, because they do have some built-in advantages when you've been doing this for a while and now all of a sudden you can really just hit the afterburners with some of this stuff and you can see massive change.
• 33:35
Speaker 2: And yeah, so wherever you're at in your business, it is designed to help you and I don't know we're so excited about it.
• 33:43
Speaker 2: It's been really fun to see the results for the first 130 or so folks who went through it and see how that has been transformative for them, see them moving on and up into mentorship and being able to get that one-on-one help that we wish had been available for us.
• 33:56
Speaker 2: I mean, really, at the end of the day, Nicole, what we're doing is we're creating the programs we wish had been available to us when we were starting 1,000%.
• 34:04
Speaker 3: If you liked this shit, that needs to be said.
• 34:06
Speaker 3: Business edition make sure you throw a couple of stars on the wherever you listen to your podcast.
• 34:11
  Speaker 3: Write us in.
• 34:11
Speaker 2: Yeah, we've got some reviews here, guys.
• 34:13
Speaker 3: Yeah we've got some reviews.
• 34:13
Speaker 3: It does help other people find the podcast.
• 34:16
Speaker 3: We love reading them.
• 34:17
Speaker 3: They give us a nice warm and fuzzy boost and the clinician shit that needs to be said is also coming.
• 34:24
Speaker 3: There was too much shit that needed to be said for just one podcast.
• 34:28
  Speaker 2: All right, guys.
• 34:29
Speaker 2: Well, as always, grateful for you all who are listening in and excited.
• 34:34
Speaker 2: I hope this has been helpful for you.
• 34:35
Speaker 2: I hope we can kind of peel back and give you some unvarnished truth about the business world.
• 34:40
Speaker 2: As always, we would love to hear from you guys.
• 34:42
Speaker 2: Please write in, let us know.
• 34:43
Speaker 2: We want to keep this conversation going.
• 34:45
Speaker 3: And let's continue to rise, such as just thinking and contemplating all the things we fear will steadyups, things we want to bring up, things we want to learn, and I believe we're going to be done over and over again and we aren't done yet.
• 34:53
Speaker 3: Yeah, and we're gonna be done.
• 34:54
Speaker 3: We've got to keep this conversation going.
