- 0:00Speaker 1: Wake up
- 0:02Speaker 1: next to you.
- 0:04Speaker 1: Kicking off your day in the best way. It's Sonia
- 0:06Speaker 1: and Joakim on the shock circuit. Good morning and welcome
- 0:10Speaker 1: to the show. Well, you know what? School visits have returned.
- 0:13Speaker 1: Yeah and we can't wait to tell you which school
- 0:15Speaker 1: we're dropping by this week. It's somewhere around the Yishun area.
- 0:18Speaker 1: Cannot wait to go back. We'll tell you more in
- 0:21Speaker 1: just a while. Stay tuned. We got BTS first. Singapore's
- 0:24Speaker 1: number one hit music station.
- 0:28Speaker 1: Joakim just run off to the bathroom for a sec.
- 0:31Speaker 1: He'll be right back with us, but happy first day
- 0:33Speaker 1: back at school. Yeah, yesterday was Youth Day, so I
- 0:36Speaker 1: completely forgot about it until Joakim told me and I
- 0:39Speaker 1: had made some plans with my mom to hang out
- 0:42Speaker 1: with her in the afternoon. So we, we went to town, right,
- 0:46Speaker 1: and she texted me saying like, wow, why is it
- 0:48Speaker 1: so crowded today? It's, it's like a Monday.
- 0:51Speaker 1: And, and I was just parking in the car park
- 0:54Speaker 1: and I was like, yeah, the car park is really,
- 0:55Speaker 1: really full. It must be because it was youth Day. So,
- 0:58Speaker 1: I think plenty of you were out with your, your
- 1:01Speaker 1: family and your friends. So it was nice to say
- 1:03Speaker 1: hi to some of you in town as well. Zara
- 1:05Speaker 1: Larson will be here in Singapore in a matter of
- 1:07Speaker 1: months for the Formula One Singapore Airline Singapore Grand Prix.
- 1:11Speaker 1: I've never seen Zara Larson in person, you know, like
- 1:14Speaker 1: in real life. Have you? No, um, like watch her perform? No, never.
- 1:19Speaker 1: A long time ago when she was here for like
- 1:21Speaker 1: a small promo tour, but this was like before she
- 1:25Speaker 1: blew up right back in the year 2017, yeah, OK, OK,
- 1:29Speaker 1: when people were confusing her and Sabrina Carpenter. It's the
- 1:32Speaker 1: blonde hair, la, I think, but thankfully now, you know, they've,
- 1:35Speaker 1: they've figured out their branding. Yeah, but speaking of sports
- 1:39Speaker 1: and all that, Cristiano Ronaldo out of the World Cup.
- 1:44Speaker 1: Was that what I predicted or, no, no.
- 1:47Speaker 1: Sorry, it's not. Honestly, looking at all your predictions, right? Yeah,
- 1:51Speaker 1: just the opposite way and half wrong. Oh yeah, it's
- 1:54Speaker 1: not too bad, you know, there was a, there's a
- 1:55Speaker 1: cat out there apparently that has predicted everything correctly.
- 2:00Speaker 1: So I mean, I'm worse than the cat if that's
- 2:02Speaker 1: what you mean. Yeah, so if you're a fan of Portugal,
- 2:04Speaker 1: it might be quite sad today and all the Messi
- 2:07Speaker 1: fans will come to you saying, OK, the goat debate
- 2:10Speaker 1: is settled. Yeah. So Messi is the goat. I mean,
- 2:14Speaker 1: from what it looks like and the way he's playing
- 2:16Speaker 1: at his age, you can't deny it now. And is
- 2:19Speaker 1: he older than Ronaldo? No, no, they're the same. So
- 2:22Speaker 1: Ronaldo's 41, Messi is 39 this year. What? You can't,
- 2:28Speaker 1: it's so hard to.
- 2:29Speaker 1: their age, you know, sometimes I keep thinking they're like already, I, I,
- 2:32Speaker 1: I keep thinking Messi is in his 40s. Yeah, both
- 2:34Speaker 1: of them are 6 World Cups in, and that's quite
- 2:38Speaker 1: legendary already. And how many wins for Lionel Messi has
- 2:42Speaker 1: won World Cup. Ronaldo has none none. Oh, so this
- 2:46Speaker 1: was his last shot. It was his last shot, and
- 2:49Speaker 1: you are forgiven for thinking that Portugal would have won
- 2:52Speaker 1: the World Cup with the squad they have. They have
- 2:55Speaker 1: star players, but not the, not, not a team.
- 2:58Speaker 1: Yeah, so you can put a bunch of stars together,
- 3:01Speaker 1: but can they work together? That's the question, right? He
- 3:04Speaker 1: also can be football pundit. You'll be someone like Ted Lasso, OK.
- 3:11Speaker 1: Is that an insult or a compliment? I can't tell
- 3:14Speaker 1: Dance Terrier is what you just heard. If you haven't
- 3:16Speaker 1: already listened to a whole album, I think some of
- 3:19Speaker 1: the reviewers and the critics are calling it like one
- 3:22Speaker 1: of her best albums ever. OK, but to be honest
- 3:25Speaker 1: with you, I think Madonna picked the wrong time to
- 3:28Speaker 1: release her album. Why? Because in all the celebrity websites, yeah, very.
- 3:32Speaker 1: Little mention of Madonna. It's all Taylor Swift and Travis Kelsey. Oh,
- 3:37Speaker 1: but you know, um, I think she timed it with pride,
- 3:40Speaker 1: to be honest. So I don't think it was anything
- 3:43Speaker 1: related to Taylor Swift and when she was doing her. Look,
- 3:46Speaker 1: if we had to plan our lives around like big
- 3:47Speaker 1: celebrities getting married or announcing something, we'll never release anything.
- 3:52Speaker 1: So to her, I think she just wanted to do
- 3:53Speaker 1: it and
- 3:54Speaker 1: I don't think it really affected her in the sense
- 3:56Speaker 1: that some of her tracks still ended up in the
- 3:58Speaker 1: top 10 on Billboard. I'm gonna read to you some
- 4:01Speaker 1: of the ratings given by all these iconic critics, right,
- 4:05Speaker 1: for Madonna's Confessions 2 album. The Times gave it 4 stars.
- 4:10Speaker 1: Rolling Stone gave it 4 stars. Pitchfork gave it 8.1
- 4:14Speaker 1: over 10. The Independent gave it 4 stars. The Guardian
- 4:17Speaker 1: gave it 4 stars. It's a 4-star album according to critics,
- 4:21Speaker 1: but
- 4:22Speaker 1: Everybody worldwide are saying nope, it's a five-star album to me. Yeah, well,
- 4:25Speaker 1: you know, music is so subjective. You, you can love it.
- 4:29Speaker 1: Someone else may hate it, but for what it's worth,
- 4:31Speaker 1: I think it's a super like dance album. You're definitely
- 4:34Speaker 1: going to hear it. I gave it a spin yesterday
- 4:36Speaker 1: on my speaker without paying attention to the track. It
- 4:39Speaker 1: was good, just lots of dancing music. I realized I
- 4:43Speaker 1: like the one with Martin Garrix. I think that could
- 4:45Speaker 1: be the next single, Bizarre. It's good. It's good. Yeah,
- 4:48Speaker 1: love it honestly.
- 4:49Speaker 1: Um, anyway, coming up in just a little bit, got
- 4:51Speaker 1: quite a cute story coming your way. It's all, it
- 4:55Speaker 1: all began with a cat. That's what I'm going to say.
- 4:59Speaker 1: It all began with a little cat. No, no, no, no, no,
- 5:02Speaker 1: not a Singaporean cat. It's in Japan actually. But everyone
- 5:07Speaker 1: around the region knows about this cat. So, um, I'm
- 5:10Speaker 1: sure you would have seen this story floating around on
- 5:12Speaker 1: social media, TikTok, Instagram. Um, do you remember there was
- 5:15Speaker 1: this black cat in Japan, specifically in
- 5:18Speaker 1: Hiroshima that kept trying to enter a museum. Yeah, you
- 5:22Speaker 1: would have seen it for sure, like 100%. Um, it
- 5:25Speaker 1: unfortunately passed away in 2025. I think it's just, you know,
- 5:28Speaker 1: perhaps old age and stuff, but um, he was called
- 5:31Speaker 1: Ken Chan, the black cat that tried to enter the
- 5:34Speaker 1: museum to the point where for a whole decade, right,
- 5:38Speaker 1: the security guard became like besties with this cat, yeah.
- 5:41Speaker 1: So, naturally, I think, you know, even though it could
- 5:44Speaker 1: be seen as a bit of like a nuisance, like, ah,
- 5:47Speaker 1: you know, cats keep trying to come into the museum, um,
- 5:50Speaker 1: the people around there just started to make it a
- 5:52Speaker 1: part of their family, you know, and it just became
- 5:54Speaker 1: an unofficial security cat as well. Um, ever since his
- 5:58Speaker 1: death in 2025, I think it's, it's, uh, the loss
- 6:02Speaker 1: has been felt for sure.
- 6:04Speaker 1: And they've decided to have a statue in replacement of
- 6:08Speaker 1: Ken Chan. That's officially outside the museum right now. It
- 6:12Speaker 1: it looks like as if he's guarding the museum. It's
- 6:15Speaker 1: the cutest thing.
- 6:17Speaker 1: And this very cute uncle of a security guard who
- 6:20Speaker 1: I think became very close friends with this cat, um,
- 6:24Speaker 1: was seen taking photos with the cat statue and in,
- 6:28Speaker 1: I think sometime towards the end of Ken Chan's life,
- 6:32Speaker 1: he was accompanied by an orange cat as well, and
- 6:35Speaker 1: its nickname was Goh Chan. So I think Goh Chan
- 6:38Speaker 1: has since gotten adopted, but they've erected this cute statue
- 6:42Speaker 1: of these two cats.
- 6:43Speaker 1: Outside Ken Chan and Goh. I know it's the cutest thing,
- 6:47Speaker 1: and you know Ken Chan has become a part of
- 6:49Speaker 1: that museum's merch because he's so iconic to the museum.
- 6:53Speaker 1: Ken Chan better be getting some good royalties in the afterlife.
- 6:57Speaker 1: His family better be getting royalties or whoever his wife
- 6:59Speaker 1: and kids are crossing that rainbow bridge. I'm not too
- 7:02Speaker 1: sure if the same thing for cats applies to dogs,
- 7:04Speaker 1: but anyway, I just googled the Japanese for cat is naked.
- 7:12Speaker 1: Sorry.
- 7:13Speaker 1: I actually didn't know that. Oh, Nico, yes, now I
- 7:16Speaker 1: recognize that name. You would have been better off saying
- 7:18Speaker 1: Kato or something. Kato. Welcome back to school. Um, your
- 7:22Speaker 1: first day back this week, I'm assuming for most of you.
- 7:26Speaker 1: Give us a call 669-11987. We want to make your
- 7:29Speaker 1: morning better before you get to school. Just want to
- 7:32Speaker 1: give a shout out to two little kids that I
- 7:34Speaker 1: met yesterday.
- 7:36Speaker 1: Friends, um, nephew, niece, and niece nephew and niece. Hello,
- 7:40Speaker 1: Mason and Megan. Hello, hello. I just saw the cutest
- 7:44Speaker 1: picture of them that you showed me and thank you
- 7:46Speaker 1: so much for the love and for tuning in to
- 7:48Speaker 1: us every morning. You know, they always say about this segment,
- 7:51Speaker 1: they feel like calling in, but they, but they can't
- 7:54Speaker 1: decide on whether should they call today or tomorrow or
- 7:57Speaker 1: the next week. Well, we'll be here.
- 7:59Speaker 1: This week, next week, we'll still be here. So make
- 8:01Speaker 1: sure you call us. And Megan has been keeping stats
- 8:03Speaker 1: on the amount of schools that called us. So wait,
- 8:06Speaker 1: has her school been mentioned yet? Saint Margaret's Primary? I
- 8:09Speaker 1: don't think so. Yeah, but she said a lot of
- 8:12Speaker 1: people from ACS call in. And we're so upset. Ashton,
- 8:17Speaker 1: we lost you midway through your call. You were so excited.
- 8:21Speaker 1: The tunnel or something like that, but you know what
- 8:23Speaker 1: that means? The phone lines are still open over at 669-119-87.
- 8:27Speaker 1: Call us, give your school a shout out, maybe your schoolmates,
- 8:31Speaker 1: your principal, your, your favorite auntie or uncle who cleans
- 8:34Speaker 1: the canteen or serves you food. Let us know what's
- 8:37Speaker 1: amazing about your school and the takeaway for you is this.
- 8:41Speaker 1: You can request for your favorite song to play here
- 8:43Speaker 1: on 987.
- 8:44Speaker 1: But Ashton, we're sending you love. Thank you for the call. Um,
- 8:47Speaker 1: you know, unfortunately, things happen. We tried to call you back,
- 8:49Speaker 1: but we couldn't get you. So, um, just so you know,
- 8:52Speaker 1: we did not, we did not, not try, OK, we tried.
- 8:55Speaker 1: It's that lady who goes, we're sorry. We're sorry.
- 8:58Speaker 1: OK, phone lines are still open to get your calls
- 9:01Speaker 1: and loads of things happening here on the shock circuit,
- 9:03Speaker 1: of course, not forgetting your $100 dining experience. All thanks
- 9:06Speaker 1: to our friends over at Broadside. And when we come
- 9:09Speaker 1: back at just past 7:00 a.m., maybe after news, weather, sports,
- 9:12Speaker 1: and traffic, I wonder whether you've realized that in some
- 9:16Speaker 1: of the neighborhoods here in Singapore, there are green.
- 9:20Speaker 1: Green strips on the road. Green strips on the road. Yeah,
- 9:23Speaker 1: and they are called friendly streets. And when did this
- 9:26Speaker 1: get kicked off? Exactly. Let me break it down for
- 9:29Speaker 1: you in just a while here on the shock circuit. Again,
- 9:30Speaker 1: don't go anywhere. Loads of fun happening here on the
- 9:34Speaker 1: show as Sonia and I take you to work as
- 9:36Speaker 1: well as school from now all the way till 10:00 a.m.
- 9:38Speaker 1: And in terms of World Cup updates,
- 9:41Speaker 1: We have kickoff happening in maybe say 1 hour's time.
- 9:45Speaker 1: Thank you for the update. USA against Belgium. You know,
- 9:49Speaker 1: some of my friends, um, actually replied to me at,
- 9:52Speaker 1: I think 4 something in the morning. One of my
- 9:54Speaker 1: group chats started pinging off and I was like, what
- 9:57Speaker 1: are you guys doing this early in the morning? She
- 9:59Speaker 1: was like, oh, had to catch because it's Ronaldo. I
- 10:01Speaker 1: was like, OK.
- 10:03Speaker 1: Shout out Renu, you know her. OK, we're gonna head
- 10:06Speaker 1: to the phone lines before you get to school right now.
- 10:08Speaker 1: Who's this on the line? Hello? Skyler. Skyler, gotcha. OK, Skyla,
- 10:14Speaker 1: who are you with right now? My mom. Hi, Skyla's mom. Hello. Alright, Skyla,
- 10:20Speaker 1: so which primary school are you in? Tifa, Q I
- 10:23Speaker 1: S A. Oh, Tifa Primary School. There we go. Sorry,
- 10:28Speaker 1: your reception is a bit fuzzy. OK, so
- 10:30Speaker 1: I'm assuming you're in what? Are you in P1, P2? P1.
- 10:34Speaker 1: And how has school been for you so far? How
- 10:37Speaker 1: has primary one been? Quite easy. I like that. I
- 10:41Speaker 1: like that. I love it. Let's go. OK, what song
- 10:44Speaker 1: can we get you this morning?
- 10:45Speaker 1: To kickstart your day. Well, Skyler loves the song Swim. OK,
- 10:50Speaker 1: by BTS. Yes, that's correct. Alright, that's coming up just
- 10:53Speaker 1: for Skyler. It's with faking smiles right here on 987.
- 10:57Speaker 1: Hopefully that's not what you need to do at the
- 10:59Speaker 1: office or at school.
- 11:02Speaker 1: In that case, what do you mean? I genuinely laugh
- 11:05Speaker 1: every time we're on the show together, OK, with you,
- 11:08Speaker 1: I'm OK. Yes, yes. It's when we step out of
- 11:10Speaker 1: the studio. Enough, enough, enough, enough. I put on my PR.
- 11:15Speaker 1: Enough, enough.
- 11:17Speaker 1: Pretty sure some people are tuning in right now. What
- 11:20Speaker 1: to do? You're my only friend in the office. Yes, OK.
- 11:23Speaker 1: Thank you for the acknowledgement. OK, I feel so honored.
- 11:25Speaker 1: Speaking of the word friend, welcome to friendly streets. OK, alright.
- 11:30Speaker 1: I need to know what you mean by this. And
- 11:32Speaker 1: it's quite cute, because when you go to a friendly street, right,
- 11:35Speaker 1: the moment it ends, you see a sign that says
- 11:38Speaker 1: end of friendly streets. No, they legitimately called it that. Yeah. OK,
- 11:43Speaker 1: so explain to me what does a friendly street do.
- 11:46Speaker 1: To make me happy. It's a movement started by our
- 11:49Speaker 1: friends over at LTA to kind of encourage motorists to
- 11:54Speaker 1: slow down because these friendly streets, they want to prioritize
- 11:58Speaker 1: pedestrians and cyclists. OK, so there's like curbless crossings, you know,
- 12:04Speaker 1: they want people to slow down and make sure they
- 12:05Speaker 1: are more observant of.
- 12:06Speaker 1: Each other, it's almost like your silver zones and school zones, yeah, yeah,
- 12:10Speaker 1: just that it's called friendly streets and you know that
- 12:13Speaker 1: you're in a friendly street because it's they have green
- 12:15Speaker 1: strips on the road. The smiley faces there. No, no,
- 12:19Speaker 1: it's just green, but the comments section is quite funny.
- 12:22Speaker 1: It's like, you know, the Mario Kart boost. Oh, it
- 12:25Speaker 1: looks like it is it the color.
- 12:27Speaker 1: Please do anything but boost your car and the friendly streets.
- 12:31Speaker 1: Observe the speed limit and be on the lookout for
- 12:34Speaker 1: more pedestrians. So places like maybe say Ang Mo Kio.
- 12:38Speaker 1: They were part of the pilot as well by our
- 12:40Speaker 1: friends over at LTA Bukit Batok West, Tampines, Toa Payoh,
- 12:44Speaker 1: and West Coast. So I think there'll be another 10
- 12:47Speaker 1: locations that will have friendly streets this year. I wonder
- 12:49Speaker 1: what's the basis on how they pick a friendly street. Like,
- 12:54Speaker 1: how do they identify, OK, this is the location we
- 12:56Speaker 1: want to change it into a friendly street. I mean,
- 12:58Speaker 1: judging from Ang Mo Kio, Tampines, Toa Payoh, West estates,
- 13:02Speaker 1: is it?
- 13:03Speaker 1: Yeah, a little bit. It sounds like it. OK, well,
- 13:06Speaker 1: something to spot and not be alarmed by in case
- 13:09Speaker 1: you didn't actually see the visuals and you're driving along,
- 13:12Speaker 1: suddenly you see why is the street, what does this mean? Yeah,
- 13:15Speaker 1: that's for you to know. You, you just know the
- 13:17Speaker 1: meme videos are coming. Oh yeah, like you're walking on
- 13:20Speaker 1: a friendly street, you're smiling, when you pass the sign
- 13:23Speaker 1: of friendly grumpy angry.
- 13:28Speaker 1: You know, I'm waiting for those videos because I, I'm
- 13:31Speaker 1: sure the netizens are out there doing it already. So
- 13:34Speaker 1: a quick supermarket run just about a week or two
- 13:36Speaker 1: ago got me realizing something.
- 13:39Speaker 1: Do you remember back in the day when we go
- 13:42Speaker 1: to like FairPrice, right? NTUC and stuff, their plastic bags
- 13:45Speaker 1: would be the old, the white plastic bag with their
- 13:48Speaker 1: logo on it. Do you still remember that? I want
- 13:50Speaker 1: to throw you back to the early 90s or late
- 13:53Speaker 1: 90s there was the NTUC logo logo prints all over.
- 13:59Speaker 1: I don't know that plastic bag. OK, I was, I
- 14:01Speaker 1: think I didn't, I didn't, I I.
- 14:03Speaker 1: I was not of the age to accompany my mom
- 14:05Speaker 1: to go supermarket shopping. I was just looking at anything
- 14:08Speaker 1: but the plastic bags. Have you ever gone through supermarket anxiety? No, where,
- 14:12Speaker 1: for example, you and your mom are in the queue
- 14:14Speaker 1: paying for the cashier, right? And then you're about to
- 14:17Speaker 1: get to the front and your mom realizes, oh, I
- 14:19Speaker 1: forgot something, and she leaves. OK, no, she's, she's asked
- 14:23Speaker 1: me to go and look for the item. OK, yeah,
- 14:26Speaker 1: either that or she'll go.
- 14:27Speaker 1: And I'll just be standing there because I've got no money, right,
- 14:29Speaker 1: as a child. So I'll just be waiting. You know,
- 14:31Speaker 1: that gives me anxiety. Really? OK, well, you know what,
- 14:35Speaker 1: it happens, it happens too, I'm sure you can relate,
- 14:38Speaker 1: but you might have noticed they've got new plastic bags
- 14:42Speaker 1: that are gray in color, no logo at all. Um,
- 14:46Speaker 1: they've actually switched to using gray plastic bags made of 30%
- 14:50Speaker 1: recycled plastics.
- 14:52Speaker 1: So it's very sustainable, um, or more sustainable rather than before.
- 14:56Speaker 1: So say goodbye to those old plastic bags with the
- 14:58Speaker 1: logo on it, no more already, OK? Yeah, so I
- 15:01Speaker 1: initially I thought like they ran out of their plastic
- 15:04Speaker 1: bags or something because before they switched to this gray one,
- 15:07Speaker 1: it was a white one. The white one didn't have
- 15:10Speaker 1: a logo on it either, because I think they were
- 15:12Speaker 1: on their way to getting a more sustainable option. But
- 15:15Speaker 1: now it's gray, so.
- 15:16Speaker 1: Initially I was like, oh, maybe it's just temporary. Perhaps
- 15:19Speaker 1: they ran out. Nope, it's permanent. It's a sustainability effort,
- 15:22Speaker 1: so don't be surprised the next time you shop at
- 15:24Speaker 1: a fair price. Speaking of sustainability, when we come back
- 15:28Speaker 1: here on the circuit, I'm inspired to ask you this question, OK? Yeah.
- 15:32Speaker 1: It involves the bottle and the can return machine. Oh, OK, yeah,
- 15:36Speaker 1: that's another discussion, OK.
- 15:39Speaker 1: Sam Smith right here on 987, Singapore's number one hit
- 15:42Speaker 1: music station. Sonia and Joy are with you. Only because
- 15:44Speaker 1: you mentioned grocery shopping earlier and how our friends over
- 15:47Speaker 1: at NTUC are no longer using the logo bags and
- 15:50Speaker 1: all that. It's recyclable gray material. It looks, yeah, it's
- 15:53Speaker 1: gray in color. Yeah. Um, I'm also curious about this
- 15:57Speaker 1: one on the topic of being sustainable, right? It's been
- 16:00Speaker 1: close to about maybe 3 or 2 months already.
- 16:03Speaker 1: Ever since they rolled out the BCR machines, the beverage
- 16:08Speaker 1: container return machines, how's it going, by the way? It's
- 16:11Speaker 1: readily available at most of your supermarkets and maybe say
- 16:15Speaker 1: some of your void decks or neighborhood towns, right? I
- 16:17Speaker 1: wonder what the take-up rate is because, uh, I rarely
- 16:23Speaker 1: see anyone use it.
- 16:25Speaker 1: So it's, it's a bit of a white elephant. So
- 16:28Speaker 1: people are buying, buying drinks from the supermarkets as well,
- 16:31Speaker 1: hawker centers and all that, but I rarely see anyone
- 16:34Speaker 1: keeping their bottles and cans with them to go use
- 16:37Speaker 1: the BCR machine. Do you think it's because, OK.
- 16:41Speaker 1: I admittedly I haven't used it yet. Also, I don't
- 16:45Speaker 1: really buy any bottled or canned drinks, to be honest.
- 16:47Speaker 1: I'm very boring. I just drink water and black coffee,
- 16:50Speaker 1: so no canned drinks. Um, is it an extra step
- 16:54Speaker 1: for people? That's why.
- 16:56Speaker 1: Because you know the barrier of entry needs to be
- 16:58Speaker 1: very low, you know, for most people they're they're trying
- 17:01Speaker 1: to make it as accessible as possible and if you
- 17:03Speaker 1: return a can, right, you get your 10 cents refundable
- 17:08Speaker 1: deposit depending on whether it goes into your Easy or
- 17:10Speaker 1: your DBS.
- 17:13Speaker 1: So, yeah, I, I, I'm just curious. Maybe there'll be
- 17:16Speaker 1: a survey very soon. You know how Singapore in our surveys, right? Exactly, yeah.
- 17:22Speaker 1: We'll see. I would not be at all surprised if
- 17:24Speaker 1: there's a survey. Coming up in just a little bit, um,
- 17:29Speaker 1: this may seem like an interesting idea, especially in our industry, Joakim,
- 17:34Speaker 1: but I'm not sure how the world might take it.
- 17:37Speaker 1: In fact, I feel
- 17:39Speaker 1: There were moments where I thought it would move into
- 17:42Speaker 1: this space, let's say even in Hollywood, for example, with
- 17:45Speaker 1: the use of AI, OK. I, I know, I know,
- 17:49Speaker 1: people either love it or hate it, but it actually
- 17:52Speaker 1: depends on how it affects your industry, you know. I
- 17:55Speaker 1: think for us, and the reason why, if you remember,
- 17:58Speaker 1: I think it was a year ago or something.
- 17:59Speaker 1: Um, the Screen Actors Guild, if I'm not wrong, in
- 18:02Speaker 1: the US, they had a bit of a demonstration or they,
- 18:06Speaker 1: they went on strike or something because of the attempted
- 18:09Speaker 1: use of AI on some of their likeness and images.
- 18:12Speaker 1: So find out what this actor in Southeast Asia is
- 18:17Speaker 1: doing that is actually earning him money while he's just
- 18:21Speaker 1: sitting about at home. When you say earning money, you
- 18:25Speaker 1: mean like in the, maybe. I think more hundreds of thousands,
- 18:31Speaker 1: not millions, but yeah, maybe.
- 18:32Speaker 1: Hundreds of thousands, um, but I'll I'll tell you more
- 18:34Speaker 1: about it and you see whether it's something that you
- 18:37Speaker 1: might consider in like 10 or 20 years, OK? OK,
- 18:40Speaker 1: so in a world where AI has become such a
- 18:42Speaker 1: hot topic of discussion, um, in, you know, it could
- 18:45Speaker 1: be a good way or a bad way, some people
- 18:47Speaker 1: are embracing it, some people are worried that it's going
- 18:49Speaker 1: to replace their jobs or steal their jobs, right?
- 18:52Speaker 1: I'm taking you to Hong Kong right now, where this
- 18:55Speaker 1: actor by the name of Lawrence Eg, I'm not sure
- 18:57Speaker 1: if you know him, if you don't watch dramas, you
- 18:59Speaker 1: may not know. I find him familiar only because I
- 19:02Speaker 1: think back then, when I used to, when I was
- 19:04Speaker 1: still staying with my parents, my mom will sometimes watch
- 19:07Speaker 1: some of these Cantonese dramas that are dubbed in Mandarin
- 19:11Speaker 1: for the Singapore audience, right? So anyway, um, this actor,
- 19:16Speaker 1: he's decided that he's going to embrace the use of AI.
- 19:19Speaker 1: He's not afraid of it.
- 19:20Speaker 1: He's officially sold some of his image rights for AI use.
- 19:26Speaker 1: So they actually use like a 20 year old version
- 19:29Speaker 1: of him in his likeness, much younger version of him
- 19:33Speaker 1: to create a drama, and he basically says the payout
- 19:36Speaker 1: is pretty good and he can sit around and do
- 19:39Speaker 1: nothing in his retirement. All I can say is he
- 19:43Speaker 1: better make sure his lawyers read the contract thoroughly. So
- 19:47Speaker 1: it's interesting because
- 19:49Speaker 1: He, he's 62 right now. So, you know, he's probably
- 19:51Speaker 1: in his retirement phase. He revealed that when he licensed
- 19:55Speaker 1: his right, the rights to his likeness to his face
- 19:58Speaker 1: to a production company, um, and they recreated this 20
- 20:02Speaker 1: year old version of him using AI. He was very
- 20:05Speaker 1: amazed because he didn't even have to go onto the sets. Um,
- 20:08Speaker 1: all the promotional events that he spoke at, he actually said,
- 20:12Speaker 1: This opens up a lot of opportunities. We should see
- 20:15Speaker 1: it differently instead of just being worried that it will
- 20:17Speaker 1: steal your jobs, both good and bad. Can you imagine
- 20:22Speaker 1: that his lawyers did not read the contract thoroughly? Neither
- 20:24Speaker 1: did he and this production company pivots.
- 20:27Speaker 1: One day to maybe say producing naughty videos. Oh, I
- 20:31Speaker 1: know what you mean. I know what you mean, but
- 20:32Speaker 1: I'm sure, I'm sure for an actor of his level
- 20:37Speaker 1: and his repertoire, they would definitely have got that in
- 20:40Speaker 1: an ironclad agreement hopefully.
- 20:42Speaker 1: But for any other people around the world thinking of
- 20:46Speaker 1: doing this and you don't have the right representation, you
- 20:48Speaker 1: don't read the contracts properly, you better be careful. But
- 20:51Speaker 1: he's said that, um, you know what, let's embrace AI.
- 20:54Speaker 1: Don't worry about it replacing actors. OK. This is one
- 20:58Speaker 1: point of view, but I don't know whether everyone else
- 21:00Speaker 1: shares the same view. It's one of those cases where
- 21:03Speaker 1: if you know him in person, you would tell him, Sir,
- 21:05Speaker 1: don't project, OK? You do you.
- 21:07Speaker 1: You like AI. That's your problem. But here's the thing.
- 21:10Speaker 1: If let's say if you're 70 years old already, you
- 21:12Speaker 1: don't really want to go be on set for 20
- 21:14Speaker 1: hours a day or whatever, and they are gonna pay
- 21:17Speaker 1: you like half a million dollars to use your face. No,
- 21:20Speaker 1: you don't want to do it. You wouldn't do it.
- 21:21Speaker 1: Given our industry. I'd rather be on set. I'd rather.
- 21:25Speaker 1: Be on the stage, you're 90? As long as I'm walking,
- 21:30Speaker 1: as long as my voice box is walking, I hope
- 21:34Speaker 1: your voice box walks for a long time. Thank you.
- 21:38Speaker 1: World Cup update. Belgium 1 USA nailed. We are 11
- 21:44Speaker 1: minutes in. OK, that was that was that they stastic.
- 21:48Speaker 1: Anyway, name me one Belgium player. Um, Belgium, uh, OK,
- 21:54Speaker 1: hold on, let me think, uh, uh, Dave.
- 22:00Speaker 1: Is there a person called David's Dave. No. No, stop it.
- 22:05Speaker 1: Can you stop? Go. Anyway, opening up the phone lines
- 22:09Speaker 1: for something a little spicy today, OK, that may or
- 22:11Speaker 1: may not bring back some not so savory memories for us,
- 22:17Speaker 1: I would say. Oh, it has already. Oh, it has? Yeah, OK,
- 22:20Speaker 1: just by me saying that earlier. Um, have you ever
- 22:23Speaker 1: been forced by someone that you're going out with, OK,
- 22:26Speaker 1: that you're dating?
- 22:27Speaker 1: To unfollow the people that you used to be involved with. Yes,
- 22:32Speaker 1: so straight up is it? It was a bit of
- 22:34Speaker 1: a stupid for me. I look back at my younger
- 22:37Speaker 1: self and I went, why did I not draw boundaries?
- 22:41Speaker 1: But you were a lot younger back then. I mean, OK,
- 22:43Speaker 1: I know, I think I know which situation you're talking about.
- 22:46Speaker 1: You were much younger, but there were boys my age
- 22:48Speaker 1: back then who knew what they were doing what to do,
- 22:51Speaker 1: you know, why was I a stupid one?
- 22:53Speaker 1: And, and you know what, no amount of reasoning can
- 22:57Speaker 1: reason with a rather insecure person. This has no gender.
- 23:01Speaker 1: It could be a guy or it could be a girl.
- 23:03Speaker 1: Oh yeah, 100%. Um, I was catching up with a
- 23:05Speaker 1: friend of mine and this happened to, to my friend.
- 23:08Speaker 1: Like the exact thing is happening right now where, um, my,
- 23:13Speaker 1: my friend is saying that he doesn't really know what
- 23:15Speaker 1: to do in this situation because he's not sure whether
- 23:18Speaker 1: it's moving in the direction that he wants to because
- 23:20Speaker 1: he doesn't foresee.
- 23:22Speaker 1: That this is a healthy thing at all. You're right.
- 23:25Speaker 1: Leave the girl or guy, whoever it is, whoever it is, because, OK,
- 23:29Speaker 1: if you're in like an early dating stage, right, and
- 23:33Speaker 1: this were to happen, I'm not sure whether this is
- 23:36Speaker 1: just the start of a lot of other things that
- 23:39Speaker 1: may reveal itself along the way, you know, disclaimer, I'm
- 23:44Speaker 1: not active.
- 23:44Speaker 1: searching up the girls that I've dated in my life.
- 23:47Speaker 1: If I still follow them, if I see their posts
- 23:50Speaker 1: and they are happy with their new partners or kids,
- 23:52Speaker 1: I will like it. Like, you know, we ended on
- 23:54Speaker 1: good terms. I'm happy for you. It doesn't mean I
- 23:56Speaker 1: want to sleep with you again, or be on a date. No,
- 24:00Speaker 1: it's just why, why, why must unfollow. What are we, 10? Yeah, exactly.
- 24:05Speaker 1: So I.
- 24:07Speaker 1: I've just stayed um well, online friends with most of
- 24:10Speaker 1: my exes or people I think only, only one of
- 24:14Speaker 1: them unfollowed me because I guess he had a new
- 24:18Speaker 1: partner going on or something you tell me you've dated
- 24:19Speaker 1: before suddenly saying, hey, you know, I've been thinking about
- 24:24Speaker 1: you quite a bit, how have you been? Yeah, that
- 24:27Speaker 1: that could be.
- 24:28Speaker 1: The start of an avalanche which I want to avoid.
- 24:31Speaker 1: So that's a different story altogether, different story altogether. And
- 24:34Speaker 1: if you're in a committed relationship, I guess you would
- 24:37Speaker 1: know what to do. You would just either politely decline
- 24:41Speaker 1: or say like, hey, you know, I hope you understand,
- 24:43Speaker 1: not the best time for me to do this, but
- 24:44Speaker 1: I hope you're OK. I think there are ways to
- 24:46Speaker 1: navigate it than forcing your partner to unfollow.
- 24:50Speaker 1: The people that he or she used to be involved with. OK,
- 24:53Speaker 1: to me, if something bad happened or some incident between
- 24:57Speaker 1: the two of you caused a lot of distrust, then maybe,
- 25:00Speaker 1: I don't know, it could be justified in selected situations.
- 25:04Speaker 1: But this one that my friend told me about, I
- 25:06Speaker 1: was like, oh, this girl seems like a red flag, man.
- 25:09Speaker 1: I gotta say I'm sure that when we open the
- 25:12Speaker 1: phone lines.
- 25:13Speaker 1: We're gonna get plenty of people sharing the same experience.
- 25:17Speaker 1: But hey, we are open to all types of views. So,
- 25:20Speaker 1: so really, like if you want to tell us why
- 25:22Speaker 1: you think this is OK or this is the right
- 25:24Speaker 1: thing to do, or maybe in your situation, it was
- 25:27Speaker 1: the thing that you wanted to do, then OK, why not, right?
- 25:30Speaker 1: We want to hear from you. 669-11987 or drop us
- 25:33Speaker 1: a message 90050987.
- 25:37Speaker 1: Have you ever found yourself in a situation where you
- 25:39Speaker 1: were made to unfollow the people that you used to
- 25:41Speaker 1: date or you were involved with? To which my unfollow.
- 25:48Speaker 1: Phone lines are open, spill those stories. We want to
- 25:51Speaker 1: hear your spicy stories as well. Let's go. Bit of
- 25:55Speaker 1: a spicy one here today. I'm opening up for your
- 25:57Speaker 1: calls and your messages, so please send them in. 669-11987
- 26:01Speaker 1: to call us or to WhatsApp us. It's 90050987.
- 26:06Speaker 1: One coming in from username Alan. Alan says, Hey, Sojo,
- 26:11Speaker 1: back in the day I followed tattooed chicks group on Facebook. Wait,
- 26:17Speaker 1: that that's an actual group. OK, I have no idea.
- 26:20Speaker 1: I wouldn't know. When my kids started using Facebook, I
- 26:23Speaker 1: had to unfollow. I didn't want them to happen to
- 26:26Speaker 1: see my feed. Oh, OK, OK. That's a, I would
- 26:31Speaker 1: say that's a valid reason in a way, I mean.
- 26:34Speaker 1: We're gonna head to our WhatsApp, uh, channels as well.
- 26:37Speaker 1: I think we've got someone by the name of E here. Morning, Sojo.
- 26:41Speaker 1: I actually broke up with my ex of 4.5 years
- 26:44Speaker 1: a few months ago. When we broke up, we promised
- 26:47Speaker 1: that we wouldn't break contact, but a few weeks ago,
- 26:50Speaker 1: I found out that my ex blocked me on IG.
- 26:53Speaker 1: It's quite disheartening for me, but my guess is that
- 26:56Speaker 1: um he doesn't want me to see that he's moving
- 26:58Speaker 1: on without me. OK, I mean,
- 27:01Speaker 1: Hey, um, if you either that or your ex's partner
- 27:09Speaker 1: made him do that. Exactly. So you would never really
- 27:11Speaker 1: know the answer, I guess. How would he realize that
- 27:14Speaker 1: this person blocked him, his ex blocked him? You can't
- 27:16Speaker 1: search him up, is it? You can't search him up
- 27:18Speaker 1: or see the post anymore. Sonia, any experience? No, um,
- 27:24Speaker 1: I
- 27:25Speaker 1: I'd be very surprised if you're the kind of girl
- 27:28Speaker 1: that makes a guy block all his exes or I'd
- 27:31Speaker 1: be very surprised. I've never done that. Neither have they
- 27:34Speaker 1: tried to do that with me. Yeah, that's why I
- 27:37Speaker 1: said only one unfollowed me before. Actually, to be fair.
- 27:41Speaker 1: unfollowed him too because it ended quite badly, I think.
- 27:45Speaker 1: So yeah, so I think I unfollowed him. He then
- 27:47Speaker 1: realized and probably unfollowed me, but it's not that we
- 27:50Speaker 1: don't wish each other well. I just don't think we
- 27:52Speaker 1: have a friendship anymore versus some of the other exes
- 27:55Speaker 1: that we still like sometimes react to each other's stuff on.
- 27:57Speaker 1: Like Instagram or IGS or whatever, you know, why Sonia
- 28:01Speaker 1: chew like your picture? Go back to her lah. Go lah.
- 28:03Speaker 1: You like her, right? Go lah. Go, go, go. You
- 28:05Speaker 1: want your media girl, right? You'd be surprised, you know,
- 28:08Speaker 1: like there was, there was an incident of, um, a
- 28:11Speaker 1: guy that I didn't even have a romantic, romantic relationship
- 28:14Speaker 1: with at all, but he did like me like a
- 28:16Speaker 1: long time ago. It was like school, honestly, it was
- 28:19Speaker 1: school days, like, you know, uni age, that kind of thing.
- 28:22Speaker 1: We never, nothing ever happened. Like I don't see him
- 28:24Speaker 1: that way, right?
- 28:25Speaker 1: But I don't know for what reason he must have
- 28:27Speaker 1: told his, his current partner about me or something. I
- 28:32Speaker 1: don't know why, because he told me once, um, that, uh,
- 28:37Speaker 1: he can't catch up anymore because his partner isn't, isn't
- 28:40Speaker 1: a fan. Then I said, oh, OK, what happened? I mean,
- 28:43Speaker 1: I don't even know. Honestly, I didn't even know the story.
- 28:45Speaker 1: Like what, what did he tell her? I have no idea.
- 28:49Speaker 1: I said it's fine, no loss to me. It's not
- 28:51Speaker 1: like we were very close or anything. Again, keep the
- 28:54Speaker 1: calls coming in over at 669-11-987 or WhatsApp us at 90050987.
- 29:00Speaker 1: If we do like your answer, don't forget we've got
- 29:01Speaker 1: a very nice dining experience. All thanks to our friends
- 29:04Speaker 1: over at Broadside. You must try their schnitzel or their
- 29:07Speaker 1: pork knuckle. Yeah, pair it with some beer as well.
- 29:10Speaker 1: Why not? Tishzwai, is that what it's called? T for two, please. 000,
- 29:15Speaker 1: I thought you were ordering the pork knuckle.
- 29:21Speaker 1: How do you say pork knuckle, I don't even know.
- 29:23Speaker 1: Tell me you've never been to Germany without telling me
- 29:26Speaker 1: you've never been to Germany. There you go. The irony
- 29:30Speaker 1: is that I have phone lines are open. Please call us.
- 29:32Speaker 1: We'd love to hear your voice. 669-1198. So I've got
- 29:35Speaker 1: a couple of juicy stories coming through on text right now.
- 29:38Speaker 1: I think, um, we'll just keep you anonymous.
- 29:40Speaker 1: By the looks of it. Probably a better option to
- 29:43Speaker 1: do that. Question is, have you ever found yourself in
- 29:46Speaker 1: a situation where you were maybe pressured to unfollow the
- 29:49Speaker 1: people you used to date or be involved with? OK,
- 29:53Speaker 1: here we go. OK. This one I can relate to
- 29:55Speaker 1: a whole new level. Hello, I was in a relationship
- 29:58Speaker 1: with this girl which was quite toxic.
- 30:00Speaker 1: I used to have a lot of female friends because
- 30:02Speaker 1: I was more comfortable with females than guys, so naturally
- 30:05Speaker 1: she was a bit jealous of it. But as time
- 30:07Speaker 1: went on, she started to be more wary with all
- 30:10Speaker 1: of them. I didn't just have to delete them all
- 30:12Speaker 1: from my social media. I even had to block them
- 30:15Speaker 1: from my messaging apps. Thinking back, it was a clear
- 30:18Speaker 1: red flag, but I guess love blinds us all. From
- 30:21Speaker 1: the sound of it, since he's talking in past tense,
- 30:24Speaker 1: I'm assuming they are no longer together.
- 30:27Speaker 1: Doesn't sound like it, doesn't sound like it. OK, you know,
- 30:30Speaker 1: having the female friends. I relates the female friends I
- 30:35Speaker 1: relate
- 30:36Speaker 1: You got to make sure there's nothing hanky panky and
- 30:39Speaker 1: boundaries are clearly drawn, you know what I mean. You know,
- 30:42Speaker 1: when you say hanky panky, you sound like my grandma.
- 30:45Speaker 1: I, I, I can't obviously say what I want to
- 30:48Speaker 1: say exactly on directly, you know what I mean, but
- 30:50Speaker 1: if you know what I mean, because I, I, I
- 30:52Speaker 1: know there are girls and guys who have guy friends
- 30:55Speaker 1: and girlfriends, and some are quite suspicious. We know. I
- 30:59Speaker 1: get it. Yeah. So, OK, from my own experience as well,
- 31:02Speaker 1: I mean, you know, you've met a lot of the
- 31:05Speaker 1: guys that I've dated previously, um, enough for you to
- 31:08Speaker 1: estimate like how comfortable they are or maybe how
- 31:13Speaker 1: Um, insecure they are or confident they are. Jeremy gets
- 31:16Speaker 1: the gold medal for self-confidence. OK, I'm very happy about that.
- 31:20Speaker 1: I will say that in my circle of friends, um,
- 31:24Speaker 1: my men friends, that includes you.
- 31:27Speaker 1: Um, at least for, you know, with, with Jeremy, who's my,
- 31:32Speaker 1: my lifelong partner now, right, you know, my, I'm very
- 31:36Speaker 1: proud of my straight man friends who actually make an
- 31:38Speaker 1: effort to get to know him and like hang out
- 31:40Speaker 1: with him. It's not just like, oh, hey, hey, hey, yeah, yeah, yeah, hi, bye,
- 31:43Speaker 1: you know, kind of thing. If you give sketchy behavior,
- 31:46Speaker 1: you're gonna get a sketchy attitude back, that's for sure, right?
- 31:48Speaker 1: To the point where whenever I meet Sonia and Jeremy, right,
- 31:51Speaker 1: who do I hug? Jeremy. Yeah, exactly.
- 31:54Speaker 1: You know, I was laughing so hard. I sidetracked, sorry,
- 31:56Speaker 1: I was reviewing some of the wedding footage which I
- 31:59Speaker 1: sent you the link already, right? wedding photos, sorry, from
- 32:02Speaker 1: the night because it takes some time for them to process.
- 32:04Speaker 1: So they only just sent it like 2 weeks ago, right?
- 32:07Speaker 1: I looked through some and I was like, this one
- 32:08Speaker 1: my wedding or Joakim's wedding?
- 32:11Speaker 1: Some of the pictures he's hugging my parents, hugging germs.
- 32:16Speaker 1: Where am I?
- 32:19Speaker 1: I was like this one Joakim's wedding. It honestly looks
- 32:24Speaker 1: like you and Germs were celebrating a party together. I,
- 32:27Speaker 1: I'm the son your parents never had. Hello, hello mom
- 32:31Speaker 1: and dad. I just want to hear that conversation. Anyway, sorry,
- 32:33Speaker 1: sidetrack with a spicy question for you. Have you ever
- 32:37Speaker 1: been forced to unfollow some of your exes or people
- 32:40Speaker 1: you're involved with? Very sad.
- 32:43Speaker 1: very sad, can be a bit toxic sometimes depending on
- 32:46Speaker 1: the trust levels that you all have. But anyway, I
- 32:50Speaker 1: got one message that just came in. Anonymous staying anonymous.
- 32:55Speaker 1: My then girlfriend, now wife, made me unfollow girlfriends, models, influencers,
- 33:02Speaker 1: and even some guy friends. Early on in.
- 33:05Speaker 1: Relationship, I thought this was very intrusive, and we had
- 33:08Speaker 1: many arguments, but at this stage in life, if she
- 33:11Speaker 1: asks me to do anything, send my life location, picture
- 33:14Speaker 1: of what I'm doing with my boys, I would just
- 33:15Speaker 1: do it. No questions, no hesitation. In fact, no need
- 33:19Speaker 1: to ask, I would just do it automatically to avoid
- 33:21Speaker 1: any confrontations or unwanted arguments. So did this relationship work out?
- 33:27Speaker 1: I think they're married now.
- 33:28Speaker 1: Oh, they're married now, OK. So it means times have changed, right?
- 33:33Speaker 1: I mean to do this to avoid negative reactions. Actually,
- 33:39Speaker 1: this is an interesting spin-off for another day, right? When
- 33:42Speaker 1: you are dating someone, do you allow each other to
- 33:45Speaker 1: have like your life locations or is that a thing
- 33:48Speaker 1: that you do? I never asked you this actually.
- 33:52Speaker 1: I, I will tell you where I am. Yes, but
- 33:55Speaker 1: you know some couples actually share their locations with each other,
- 33:58Speaker 1: so they know where they're at at all times. Is
- 34:01Speaker 1: that weird or sweet? I don't know. I'm, I'm curious. I, I,
- 34:05Speaker 1: I can't really judge because I've not done that. Me neither,
- 34:07Speaker 1: and I think I'll be a bit uncomfortable because I'm
- 34:10Speaker 1: telling you, yes, OK, I'm at Penny Black having a Guinness.
- 34:13Speaker 1: Must I really turn on my live location to let
- 34:15Speaker 1: you trust me?
- 34:17Speaker 1: I don't know. So I, I'll definitely send you a bubble.
- 34:20Speaker 1: That's OK. Yeah, yeah, yeah. I don't know. I just
- 34:22Speaker 1: know some couples who like they, they need to share
- 34:25Speaker 1: their life location, so I don't know. Yeah, to each
- 34:27Speaker 1: its own, floats their boat. Anonymous is on the line
- 34:31Speaker 1: to wrap up this topic here today as well. So Anonymous, what,
- 34:34Speaker 1: what happens? So,
- 34:35Speaker 2: um, my current partner found out that I've been friends
- 34:38Speaker 2: with my exes, and you know, uh,
- 34:42Speaker 2: I tried to end amicably with my exes, so we
- 34:45Speaker 2: maintain good friendship and I sometimes I know they are
- 34:48Speaker 2: um partners as well. So we would naturally react with
- 34:51Speaker 2: each other's Instagram stories and all. But when my partner
- 34:54Speaker 2: my partner found out, she took it as a cheating,
- 34:57Speaker 2: I guess. And then she, yeah, yeah, and she gave
- 35:00Speaker 2: me the option to unfollow them and block them everywhere,
- 35:05Speaker 2: even in my messages, delete every single thing.
- 35:07Speaker 2: And I'm a very sentimental person. So it took me,
- 35:11Speaker 2: it took my everything to delete everything, you know, from
- 35:13Speaker 2: the memories and all, so we talked about it. Yeah,
- 35:16Speaker 2: everything's all good now and healthy cause uh I'm pretty
- 35:19Speaker 2: sure it's not just unfollowing, but it's the principle behind it. Yeah.
- 35:22Speaker 1: I think, OK, seeing how you
- 35:25Speaker 1: Both of you have talked through it, right? I guess
- 35:27Speaker 1: the question she may have had in her mind is,
- 35:30Speaker 1: I know you're a sentimental person, but why do you
- 35:32Speaker 1: need to look back at these messages and moments that
- 35:36Speaker 1: you shared with the exes? Maybe that's what she's thinking.
- 35:38Speaker 1: I mean, I, I personally would have approached it differently.
- 35:41Speaker 1: I wouldn't have probably forced you, but
- 35:43Speaker 1: If it works and you guys have talked it out
- 35:44Speaker 1: and you know, it's all OK now, then that's, that's
- 35:47Speaker 1: a good thing. Yeah.
- 35:51Speaker 2: And as a partner, and I wanna be a good partner, ah,
- 35:54Speaker 2: you know, I wanna see where this is coming from,
- 35:58Speaker 2: you know?
- 35:59Speaker 1: 100%, right? But if it works, it works, like we said.
- 36:02Speaker 1: So thank you so much for sharing your stories with us.
- 36:04Speaker 1: Came through with a spicy question for you. If you've
- 36:06Speaker 1: ever been pressured to unfollow the people you used to
- 36:09Speaker 1: be involved with, that includes exes, people you dated, people
- 36:13Speaker 1: you were just involved with casually.
- 36:16Speaker 1: Has this happened to you? And you came through with
- 36:18Speaker 1: a lot of stories, a lot of anonymous texters today.
- 36:21Speaker 1: Rightly so. I mean, nobody would want to say their
- 36:24Speaker 1: name in case they're currently going through it. Actually, even
- 36:26Speaker 1: if you didn't specify, we chose to keep most of
- 36:29Speaker 1: you anonymous, to be honest. We're sending you all the
- 36:31Speaker 1: love you need in case you find yourself in this
- 36:34Speaker 1: toxic situation. But anyway,
- 36:36Speaker 1: What's coming your way? It's a very nice dining experience.
- 36:39Speaker 1: All thanks to our friends at Broadside. Wanna give it
- 36:43Speaker 1: to an anonymous texter who shared about his long-term relationship
- 36:48Speaker 1: and his ex unfollowing him after the breakup of 9 years. Well, congratulations.
- 36:53Speaker 1: At least you get something by sharing your
- 36:57Speaker 1: Painfully honest story. Sometimes these, you know, these stories bring
- 37:01Speaker 1: back bad or good memories for us, but we appreciate
- 37:04Speaker 1: you being so open with our with. Actually, I realized
- 37:06Speaker 1: we're giving you the perfect experience. Go have some good
- 37:08Speaker 1: food and then you drink some beer from Bata. Oh yeah, OK,
- 37:14Speaker 1: the oldest brewery in Germany, if I'm not wrong, really.
- 37:17Speaker 1: I still remember like, um, in Germany they had this
- 37:20Speaker 1: like 1 L.
- 37:21Speaker 1: Pints and these beer girls, like they just have a talent, man.
- 37:25Speaker 1: They're mad strong. They can carry like 4 in one arm,
- 37:28Speaker 1: in one hand. Only, only in Germany, the beer is
- 37:32Speaker 1: cheaper than water. That's true. OK, so you asked me
- 37:35Speaker 1: what's up for food news today. I said it's a
- 37:37Speaker 1: new opening. Here we go with food news. Do I
- 37:40Speaker 1: sing it? Yes. Happy or sad? 123, food news, foods.
- 37:46Speaker 1: News. Sonia with the good food news. Hopefully for this
- 37:50Speaker 1: entire week it's happy news. I hope so too. I
- 37:52Speaker 1: mean this definitely is a positive spin on things with
- 37:55Speaker 1: all the closures and unfortunate things happening in the F&B sector.
- 37:59Speaker 1: It's not easy to maintain. OK, wait, when you say
- 38:02Speaker 1: new opening, can I guess on what it is not? OK, OK,
- 38:07Speaker 1: I hope it is not a new mala. No, it's not. OK.
- 38:11Speaker 1: Nope, it's not. Hot. No, it's not a chain. It's
- 38:15Speaker 1: not a chain. When I say new is new. So
- 38:18Speaker 1: this guy has worked in cybersecurity for 16 years. OK.
- 38:22Speaker 1: My guess is that he's a millennial. OK. He's worked
- 38:25Speaker 1: for 16 years in various, I'm assuming cybersecurity firms, and
- 38:30Speaker 1: he had a managerial position. So quite comfortable, you know,
- 38:33Speaker 1: like doing well in life, but he pivoted suddenly, quit
- 38:37Speaker 1: and became a hawker.
- 38:39Speaker 1: At this place called Nasi Lemak by Brown.
- 38:43Speaker 1: Um, he gave up a cushy job to run his
- 38:45Speaker 1: lemongrass chicken Nasi Lemak, and he's doing it solo. Congratulations,
- 38:50Speaker 1: Melvin Brown. That's his surname actually. Yeah, you're gonna ask
- 38:54Speaker 1: why it's called, why is it called Nasi Lemak by Brown, right?
- 38:58Speaker 1: So, um, he left the corporate world at the end
- 39:01Speaker 1: of 2024, opened his brand new hawker business in March
- 39:05Speaker 1: this year, and he kind of said, you know what,
- 39:08Speaker 1: like he spent so many years building systems, streamlining workflows
- 39:12Speaker 1: and managing risks. It unexpectedly prepared him for life as
- 39:16Speaker 1: a hawker, his cybersecurity background. OK, I'm.
- 39:20Speaker 1: Mr. Brown right now. Yes, that's his real surname, so
- 39:23Speaker 1: it's so cute. Yeah. So apparently we are very common. Yeah,
- 39:26Speaker 1: you're mixed, right? Because he has Indian and Portuguese blood, yeah,
- 39:30Speaker 1: but he also has Chinese and British descent. This is
- 39:33Speaker 1: Eurasian of the Eurasian man. Yes, exactly. So, hey, you
- 39:36Speaker 1: know what, he wanted to create something that entirely belonged
- 39:39Speaker 1: to him. So things like even
- 39:42Speaker 1: The, the sambal, he took maybe 6 months to perfect,
- 39:46Speaker 1: you know, things like that. He really put his heart
- 39:48Speaker 1: and soul into it. Um, he did say definitely he
- 39:50Speaker 1: was worried about the pay cut, but it's a necessary
- 39:53Speaker 1: step to really just get out of your comfort zone.
- 39:55Speaker 1: He's not drawing a salary at all. He's pumping all
- 39:58Speaker 1: the revenue back into the business, so I'm wishing him
- 40:00Speaker 1: all the best. Um, it's easy for us to go
- 40:03Speaker 1: pay him a.
- 40:04Speaker 1: Is it, you know, it's a one-man show for now.
- 40:05Speaker 1: Maybe let's just show him some love and, and support.
- 40:08Speaker 1: I have to say the Nasi Lemak looks glorious, something
- 40:11Speaker 1: that we would love to have for breakfast, but I
- 40:14Speaker 1: think it's time we got to go to Golden Mile
- 40:15Speaker 1: Food Center. Exactly, yeah. So 505 Beach Road. I wonder
- 40:18Speaker 1: when was the last time you went to Golden Mile.
- 40:21Speaker 1: So Golden Mile Food Center has that very good clay
- 40:23Speaker 1: pot rice stall, which
- 40:25Speaker 1: The last time I went was maybe 2 or 3
- 40:27Speaker 1: years ago when it was about to go through renovations. OK,
- 40:30Speaker 1: so time to pay them a visit. It's 1, once again,
- 40:33Speaker 1: Golden Mile Food Center, as mentioned earlier. All the best, Mr. Brown.
- 40:38Speaker 1: We're giving you some love, Melvin. Now there's confusion. Oh, Mr. Brown,
- 40:42Speaker 1: the blogger and Mr. Brown.
- 40:47Speaker 1: Anyway, it looks perfect. We can't wait to dig in
- 40:50Speaker 1: and give it a try. OK, I think our friends
- 40:53Speaker 1: over at Netflix, yeah, very busy, is it? If they
- 40:56Speaker 1: ever need a new crime series and they need inspiration
- 40:59Speaker 1: for it, they should come to Singapore. Singapore. Are you sure?
- 41:02Speaker 1: I don't know whether we're very exciting crime-wise. not, not,
- 41:05Speaker 1: not that that's a thing to flex at all. OK, disclaimer, I, I,
- 41:08Speaker 1: I know we're like a safe country.
- 41:10Speaker 1: And all that, but sometimes when I read about the
- 41:12Speaker 1: crime news, right, I'm like, wow, like these are the
- 41:15Speaker 1: kind of things that you read about or you watch
- 41:18Speaker 1: in cinemas or you watch in the television series or whatsoever.
- 41:22Speaker 1: Does it make you wonder why they even tried in
- 41:24Speaker 1: the first place? Yeah, OK. When we come back, a
- 41:27Speaker 1: new case of money laundering, oh boy, involving Nvidia chips.
- 41:33Speaker 1: Nothing related to Invader the company, right? Like they are not. OK,
- 41:37Speaker 1: let me try to break it down for you as
- 41:39Speaker 1: I understand it, OK, but it involves a GCB just casually, just,
- 41:44Speaker 1: you know, a good class bungalow out there and millions
- 41:48Speaker 1: of dollars. Wow, yeah, we're definitely not involved. Do I
- 41:51Speaker 1: sing the Bodo crime jingle for this or not. OK,
- 41:55Speaker 1: this one is quite smart.
- 41:57Speaker 1: Because it involves millions of dollars, money laundering, a good
- 42:01Speaker 1: class bungalow. I'm pretty sure some sports car somewhere as well.
- 42:05Speaker 1: More money and but unfortunately, unfortunately got caught, so good. Yeah.
- 42:14Speaker 1: So I was reading this on the train yesterday. I
- 42:18Speaker 1: was what really draws my attention when it comes to
- 42:21Speaker 1: crime in Singapore, it's not like theft.
- 42:24Speaker 1: For robberies, those are serious as well, but it's your
- 42:27Speaker 1: white-collar crimes. It's those that involves money laundering and all that.
- 42:31Speaker 1: So apparently this one involves a group CEO of this
- 42:35Speaker 1: place called Aparia. Have you heard of it? There's a
- 42:39Speaker 1: mall with the same name. I don't think it's I don't,
- 42:44Speaker 1: but the CEO has been hit with 9 additional charges
- 42:48Speaker 1: including fraud and money laundering, so.
- 42:51Speaker 1: The prosecutors are saying that he bought a good class
- 42:54Speaker 1: bungalow worth $55 million using money that allegedly was a
- 43:02Speaker 1: value of $38 million in criminal proceeds. How, how did
- 43:07Speaker 1: he get this $33 million from your understanding of the story?
- 43:10Speaker 1: I think they misled suppliers on who the final users
- 43:15Speaker 1: of high-end computers would be, and these servers.
- 43:19Speaker 1: Contained allegedly the Nvidia AI chips that were later shipped
- 43:24Speaker 1: to Malaysia raising concerns that they may have bypassed US
- 43:29Speaker 1: export controls. Oh yeah. So did the product even exist
- 43:34Speaker 1: for them? That's the thing I want to know. So
- 43:37Speaker 1: police have since frozen the bungalow from being sold and
- 43:40Speaker 1: also seized about $1 million from the bank accounts under investigations.
- 43:45Speaker 1: So where, where
- 43:46Speaker 1: Where is this bungalow situated? Do we know? Like where
- 43:48Speaker 1: is this GCB? You got me there. I mean, there
- 43:52Speaker 1: are only that many places in Singapore that have GCBs lah. So, uh, disclaimer,
- 43:56Speaker 1: the case is ongoing and the allegations have not yet
- 43:58Speaker 1: been proven in court because the, the group CEO of
- 44:02Speaker 1: this kind of pleaded not guilty to everything still being
- 44:06Speaker 1: looked into right now, but we are invested as with
- 44:09Speaker 1: every developing story when it comes to crime here in Singapore.
- 44:14Speaker 1: Wow, wow, that, that, that's another level. I have to say,
- 44:16Speaker 1: another level. Before we wrap it up, we actually saw
- 44:19Speaker 1: a pretty interesting video that we didn't even realize this
- 44:22Speaker 1: was going on. I think the students over at Primary
- 44:24Speaker 1: School for today, they just received a new core memory.
- 44:30Speaker 1: Jackie Chan of all people appeared.
- 44:32Speaker 1: Their school. Yeah, I think this is in partnership with
- 44:35Speaker 1: the Lim Foundation, the Lim Family Foundation, where a few
- 44:38Speaker 1: years ago, if you remember, they brought down Ciano Ronaldo. Yeah,
- 44:41Speaker 1: they are like besties with him, right? Somehow they're really
- 44:45Speaker 1: close with him. I mean, for Ronaldo to even fly
- 44:49Speaker 1: down personally to congratulate.
- 44:52Speaker 1: Was it? I think his daughter gave birth to congratulate
- 44:53Speaker 1: Peter Lim Kim. I wonder who will fly down for
- 44:54Speaker 1: us for that.
- 45:08Speaker 1: Sons.
- 45:09Speaker 1: You know, I'm just saying there's being delusional and then
- 45:13Speaker 1: there's this.
- 45:16Speaker 1: Hey, one can hope, you know, like out of nowhere, like, uh,
- 45:20Speaker 1: Chris Martin comes to congratulate you on your wedding or
- 45:23Speaker 1: or performs at your wedding. Actually, you know what, yeah,
- 45:26Speaker 1: if it's possible, I already found my future wedding singer
- 45:30Speaker 1: if it takes place. Me? No, hell no.
- 45:37Speaker 1: Hey, why are you so rude? Please don't say what
- 45:40Speaker 1: kind of, what kind of budget you have? You can
- 45:42Speaker 1: afford me not.
- 45:46Speaker 1: You can afford my singing now. I didn't know $1
- 45:48Speaker 1: was very hard to give.
- 45:52Speaker 1: Hey.
