- 0:27Hey everybody, good morning from the chicken coop.
- 0:31So today we are talking about the curse of knowledge.
- 0:34The curse of knowledge, if you've never heard of it,
- 0:36basically boils down to one simple fact.
- 0:38Sometimes when you have a vast amount of knowledge, even a
- 0:42decent amount of knowledge, you become, let's say, arrogant with
- 0:47that knowledge and you think you know everything or you are
- 0:50unwilling to take on new information.
- 0:53And you know, the definition of intelligence is really to be
- 0:57able to take on more information.
- 0:59But when you have this curse of knowledge, so to speak, you you
- 1:04get stuck in what you know and you stay in what you know.
- 1:07And you don't try to grow what you know or move what you know
- 1:12into a a a wider space, so to speak.
- 1:15So how does this affect you? Well, in my opinion, you have to
- 1:19always stay curious. If you don't stay curious,
- 1:22you're screwed. It boils down to that you have
- 1:25to stay curious. You have to continue to ask
- 1:28questions. You have to continue to be that
- 1:30person that says I am going to fundamentally continue to learn
- 1:34my entire life. Because if I don't, apparently
- 1:37Celine agrees with that. She's very loud right now.
- 1:41If you don't continue to learn, then what do you have?
- 1:44You have just that scope that you're stuck in your in your own
- 1:49little vortex, and that is not going to help you get anywhere.
- 1:53I can promise you that. Because you'll just stay stuck
- 1:56in a, in a sense a fixed mindset, because that's really
- 1:59the definition between a growth mindset and a fixed mindset.
- 2:02A growth mindset says I'm going to continue to learn, be
- 2:05curious, I'm going to continue to grow, and I'm going to
- 2:07continue to expand my knowledge base and move on.
- 2:11When a fixed mindset is in place, there's none of that.
- 2:16Basically it says I know what I know and I'm going to stick to
- 2:18what I know and I'm not going to expand and I'm not going to
- 2:21grow. And honestly, if I was to ask
- 2:24any of you if you would like to have a fixed mindset or a growth
- 2:26mindset, 90% of you are going to say, Oh no, I want the growth
- 2:31mindset. Maybe even 100% of you will say
- 2:33I want the growth mindset. Well, one, because it sounds
- 2:35sexier, right? And two, because it is because
- 2:38you always want to be growing and expanding because that's the
- 2:40human condition. We want to do that for
- 2:43ourselves. So this other factor that comes
- 2:47in here, this crazy other factor that says, well, sometimes the
- 2:51smarter you get, the stupider you get is is so prevalent in
- 2:57this world right now. It's everywhere.
- 3:00Because people believe that, oh, they're right and they are stuck
- 3:03on what they are right about and they're void of curiosity.
- 3:07They're void of trying to learn more and see more.
- 3:11And that is called the curse of knowledge.
- 3:13My friends, you have to stop and and say to yourself, wait a
- 3:17minute, I'm stuck in my own paradigm here.
- 3:21And I have to say this happens to all of us, myself included.
- 3:25You guys hear me say that often because I want you to know it
- 3:28happens to me too. And you can't just get stuck in
- 3:32it. Whether it's something silly
- 3:34like you think you know something about a plant, like
- 3:36I'll be growing something like, Oh no, it's not the way it's
- 3:38supposed to go. But I'm stuck in what I know as
- 3:42opposed to be like, oh, wait a second, that's could be
- 3:46something different. I have to look at this.
- 3:47I have to take on new knowledge. I have to go ask questions.
- 3:50I have to be curious. And then all of a sudden I find
- 3:53out things that I didn't know and you just, you just have to
- 3:57be willing again for the curiosity factor and you can't
- 4:01stay in that place of saying, Oh no, I'm going to stay in this
- 4:05curse of knowledge factor. So the biggest, most important
- 4:10thing that you can do to help yourself out with this is to
- 4:13train the curiosity factor. So often times people will say,
- 4:17well, how do I get rid of something?
- 4:19And I say, well, you know, it's not about just getting rid of
- 4:22something, it's about making another muscle bigger.
- 4:25Because once you make the other muscle bigger, it's a heck of a
- 4:28lot easier to notice it, recognize it and move through it
- 4:30when it does show up. Because again, just like certain
- 4:34emotions on our bus, we can't eliminate them.
- 4:37You're never going to eliminate the the the curse of knowledge.
- 4:40It's just there. But you can build Curiosity way
- 4:43high so that it takes over. And that's what we're talking
- 4:46about. We want curiosity to be built up
- 4:49so it takes over and we don't have these conditions, so to
- 4:53speak. So, great ways to build your
- 4:56Curiosity Reading. Reading is a huge, huge thing.
- 5:00And I'm not talking about reading the news.
- 5:03Stop reading the news. Read other things that fill your
- 5:06mind. Cross pollinate.
- 5:08If you are like let's say you're a knitter or you're a needle
- 5:12pointer or you're a seamstress and you love to do all that kind
- 5:15of stuff with fabrics and yarns and all of that, you could cross
- 5:18pollinate your skills over to painting.
- 5:20If you're a painter you could cross pollinates from using
- 5:24watercolors up to using oils which is a completely different
- 5:28thing. You could start doing stained
- 5:30glass. If you're someone that's a
- 5:32flower arranger, you could start baking.
- 5:35You see you can cross pollinate and get curious.
- 5:38You can start to change. I have someone who loves to bake
- 5:41right now and she just found out that one of her cousins is
- 5:44gluten free and or has celiacs and she now has to be gluten
- 5:48free. So she has completely changed
- 5:51her baking and she's trying to do everything gluten free so she
- 5:54can help out and send recipes to her cousin and send her
- 5:57surprises. So she's cross pollinating, but
- 6:00instead of being just frustrated like she was in the beginning
- 6:02saying all these recipes suck, she's like, OK, I've got to get
- 6:06curious about how to make these better.
- 6:08I've got to try something different and that's the winning
- 6:11factor. So for me, I love to cross
- 6:13pollinate all these skills because I love to do a lot of
- 6:16things. And just like the chickens,
- 6:19people will say, oh, you know, it seems like you spoil your
- 6:22chickens. Well, part of that is based
- 6:25around the fact that everything I read in the beginning when I I
- 6:28was super, super curious. Again, I hadn't done chicken
- 6:31since I was a kid. I read everything that I could
- 6:35get my hands on, all different types of books.
- 6:38And one of the main factors for chickens is if they have a
- 6:41really strong diet and if they have a really clean environment,
- 6:45they will thrive in different ways and you won't have all
- 6:49these other little problems that a lot of chickens have.
- 6:51So I made it a point to take that knowledge on.
- 6:55And that would have been something I did not know based
- 6:57on what's out there readily. And I was able to create a
- 7:01different environment. And I don't have these things,
- 7:04knock on wood, you know, I don't have these things.
- 7:07But I'm just telling you. And this goes across the board
- 7:10for all kinds of things. So watch out for your curse of
- 7:14knowledge, my friends. Make sure you're aware of what
- 7:16you're doing with it and make sure you do a great job putting
- 7:20it in check. All right, I will see you all
- 7:22tomorrow. And I hope you have a blessed
- 7:24day. Bye I.
