- 0:10Speaker 1: Hey, Wendy, Yes, we did it again. What we need
- 0:15Speaker 1: to redesign our shirt? No no, no, no, no no.
- 0:21Speaker 2: Hey guys, it's girls Gone.
- 0:23Speaker 3: Hallmark Uponus episode of Long Story Short the podcast I'm
- 0:26Speaker 3: Megan and the Contrarian Across.
- 0:28Speaker 1: Room, I'm Wendy.
- 0:31Speaker 3: Welcome to our review of A Dickens of a Holiday.
- 0:35Speaker 3: We have been counting down to Christmas along with Hallmark,
- 0:39Speaker 3: reviewing a new original movie every single week, and we
- 0:42Speaker 3: have also reviewed additional movies on our Patreon, which you can.
- 0:47Speaker 1: Find at patreon dot com slash Megan and Wendy if
- 0:50Speaker 1: you want more holiday movie reviews, and coming up in
- 0:56Speaker 1: the next couple of weeks, not only will we be
- 1:00Speaker 1: back with a review of Christmas House too, we will
- 1:03Speaker 1: be back with some throwback movie reviews to keep you
- 1:08Speaker 1: going through the end of the new year. But first,
- 1:11Speaker 1: before we talk about that, we got to talk about
- 1:14Speaker 1: this movie. Okay, Dickens of a Holiday exclamation point, I
- 1:19Speaker 1: did notice that. But why do you have a synopsis?
- 1:22Speaker 1: I do To make the one hundredth anniversary of her
- 1:25Speaker 1: hometown's Victorian Festival a success, Cassie invites action movie star
- 1:31Speaker 1: and former high school classmate Jake to play in a
- 1:34Speaker 1: Christmas Carol. News and notes not a ton? I agree,
- 1:40Speaker 1: I'm not a ton. Isn't it weird how some movies
- 1:44Speaker 1: have a ton of news and notes and some don't.
- 1:48Speaker 1: I think some of that has to do with how
- 1:50Speaker 1: hard the cast and crew have gone with like the
- 1:52Speaker 1: self promotion.
- 1:53Speaker 2: And the interviews they've given.
- 1:55Speaker 3: And a lot of our news and notes often come
- 1:56Speaker 3: from like an interview with CCB or their Instagram pages
- 2:02Speaker 3: or the tweets they're given us with some insider info.
- 2:07Speaker 3: This movie was fild to Vancouver, of course, it was
- 2:09Speaker 3: in September.
- 2:11Speaker 1: Mm hmmm. And this movie was rewritten by friend of
- 2:15Speaker 1: the show, Julie Sherman Wolf. I have a question about that, sure,
- 2:19Speaker 1: because I looked on IMDb last night and it has
- 2:24Speaker 1: a gentleman by the name of Mark Hefty as the writer,
- 2:28Speaker 1: and then Julie Sherman Wolf is as teleplay. So was
- 2:33Speaker 1: he the original writer and then she rewrote his stuff?
- 2:38Speaker 1: That's my understanding. This is the second movie we've seen
- 2:44Speaker 1: from Julie Sherman Wolf this holiday season. Yeah, so I'm
- 2:48Speaker 1: just when they get when they rewrite it, they get
- 2:52Speaker 1: the teleplay credit evidently. Yeah, I don't know, I'm just
- 2:56Speaker 1: curious how that works exactly. But I did see so
- 3:01Speaker 1: the original writer, Mark Hefti. He also wrote My Christmas
- 3:05Speaker 1: Family Tree, Oh that was great, and Beverly Hill's Wedding
- 3:10Speaker 1: with Brooke. Do you or say yes? I like that movie?
- 3:14Speaker 1: So I was kind of like interesting, like those are
- 3:17Speaker 1: two good movies. Like why did she have to rewrite it?
- 3:21Speaker 1: Or did he? Are they the rewriters on it?
- 3:25Speaker 2: I don't know the answer.
- 3:26Speaker 1: Yeah, I don't either. I'm just it's just funny to
- 3:30Speaker 1: me that, Like, if he's written two really good movies,
- 3:32Speaker 1: why would this script need to be rewritten unless like
- 3:36Speaker 1: Hallmark's like, eh, we just don't like it the way
- 3:40Speaker 1: this is going to go, so let's just hire a rewrite.
- 3:42Speaker 1: I heard something else we've done this season? Who knows?
- 3:45Speaker 1: Interesting that's this? I need that kind of information.
- 3:48Speaker 2: Ask me too.
- 3:49Speaker 1: I need a Hallmark insider to weigh in. Yeah, somebody please.
- 3:54Speaker 1: This was also directed by Paul Ziller, who did Roadhouse Romance,
- 3:58Speaker 1: Hello Tyler, Weekend Hines and Beverly Hill's Wedding Too Not
- 4:05Speaker 1: Too Also, you know what I mean? Yeah, there's no sequel. Yes,
- 4:09Speaker 1: it's kind of funny like it has the same writer
- 4:11Speaker 1: and same director, and same lead actor is actress. Yeah,
- 4:16Speaker 1: maybe they just like to work together. Maybe there's a
- 4:17Speaker 1: team that likes to work together. We get another budget
- 4:20Speaker 1: reveal of this movie. Saw.
- 4:23Speaker 3: This is only the second time I've ever seen that
- 4:25Speaker 3: for these movies that IMDb lists the budget for this
- 4:27Speaker 3: movie as two point six million. I believe the last
- 4:30Speaker 3: time we had a budget we heard two point three million.
- 4:33Speaker 3: It was in the same range. So interesting to see that.
- 4:37Speaker 1: That's roughly the budget of a Hallmark movie. I know
- 4:40Speaker 1: I want to see the budget for a CCB movie right. Also,
- 4:45Speaker 1: speaking side note of CCB, I met a gentleman last
- 4:49Speaker 1: night at a neighborhood thing and he was saying that
- 4:53Speaker 1: he works in production locally for a religious television network
- 5:00Speaker 1: and works closely with CCP's brother Kirk uh huh, and
- 5:05Speaker 1: knows CCP. You should have saw my husband's face light up.
- 5:10Speaker 1: And I was like, don't even say it, Like, don't
- 5:13Speaker 1: say that we record, you know, Homemark podcasts, And luckily
- 5:16Speaker 1: he did it. So in this movie, there's a throwback
- 5:19Speaker 1: scene to where Cassie is given a mixtape and Christopher
- 5:24Speaker 1: Polaha made a mixtape for Brooke dorsay while they're filming
- 5:28Speaker 1: this movie. Why what is wrong with you? Why are
- 5:31Speaker 1: you coming at me with this? Babe?
- 5:33Speaker 2: How are you not team Chris Polaha?
- 5:37Speaker 1: How? I don't know. I just don't know. I don't know.
- 5:40Speaker 2: He's a wowie zwi for me.
- 5:42Speaker 1: I didn't find Christopher Polaha that appealing, not a wowie
- 5:46Speaker 1: zowi for me. I know a lot of people really
- 5:49Speaker 1: like him. These are straight out of my notes. Guys,
- 5:53Speaker 1: I thought he was so charming. Well, do you have
- 5:57Speaker 1: any other news and notes before I hear your first impression? No,
- 6:00Speaker 1: I don't. Well, look, I'm gonna go first, because okay,
- 6:02Speaker 1: I get this out there. My first impression is this
- 6:06Speaker 1: was everything a Christmas.
- 6:08Speaker 3: Movie should be, the classic story feel fresh, sun.
- 6:13Speaker 1: Was warm, without petty misunderstandings and people who talk through
- 6:17Speaker 1: what they need and want. However, you fell asleep twice
- 6:20Speaker 1: watching it.
- 6:21Speaker 3: That is not a reflection on the movie. I fall
- 6:23Speaker 3: asleep all the time, and I was laying down while
- 6:25Speaker 3: want to.
- 6:26Speaker 1: Okay, so my first impression is I thought this was
- 6:30Speaker 1: going to be a retelling of a Christmas Carol, not
- 6:32Speaker 1: the making of a Christmas Carol. There were no retelling
- 6:36Speaker 1: aspects of this movie, right, Like I didn't catch anything,
- 6:39Speaker 1: Like I mean, I didn't miss anything parallel in the
- 6:41Speaker 1: story itself, not that I can tell. Okay, that's the
- 6:44Speaker 1: only reason why I was like, oh, yeah, let's do that,
- 6:46Speaker 1: because I love the story of a Christmas Carol, right,
- 6:51Speaker 1: and I feel duped. You got duped. Do you like Scrooged?
- 6:55Speaker 1: I've never seen it. I hate that movie, you guys,
- 6:59Speaker 1: I don't love Christmas, So why would I watch a
- 7:02Speaker 1: bunch of Christmas movies? I don't know.
- 7:03Speaker 3: I hate that movie and my husband watches it every year.
- 7:05Speaker 3: Who's in it?
- 7:08Speaker 1: Bill Murray? Yeah, no, I'm not interested. I would probably
- 7:11Speaker 1: never watch that. Also, it was Carol Kane, Bobcat, Golfwaite.
- 7:16Speaker 1: I can't be Scrooge. My husband knows to watch it,
- 7:19Speaker 1: like on a night that I'm out. Did he watch
- 7:21Speaker 1: it last night?
- 7:21Speaker 3: And he didn't, But they originally were planning to. They're like, oh,
- 7:24Speaker 3: mommy's going out, we can watch Scrooge because.
- 7:26Speaker 1: I don't like that movie. Don't make me sit through it. Okay,
- 7:29Speaker 1: what don't you like about the movie? I don't know.
- 7:32Speaker 1: There's nothing charming about it at all. It's annoying to
- 7:34Speaker 1: watch in my opinion, that's how I felp out this one. Okay, well,
- 7:39Speaker 1: my first life is Christopher Pulaha is a delightful Scrooge. Okay,
- 7:46Speaker 1: that's a fair point. My notes, I wrote, there were
- 7:51Speaker 1: some really good parts of Jake ass Scrooge, though I
- 7:55Speaker 1: wasn't particularly interested in, like watching the behind the scenes
- 7:59Speaker 1: of like them doing the community theater. There was like
- 8:03Speaker 1: a solo part of him doing like a monologue or
- 8:06Speaker 1: something I thought was really rehearsal. Yeah, I thought that
- 8:09Speaker 1: was really good. I know what you're talking about. I
- 8:11Speaker 1: also thought that was fantastic. Toward the end of the movie,
- 8:15Speaker 1: they show clips of the actual production, not the actual production,
- 8:18Speaker 1: but their pretend production, and you did not enjoy that. No,
- 8:21Speaker 1: I thought, I remember, fantastic.
- 8:23Speaker 3: I thought they did such a nice job of making
- 8:26Speaker 3: this seem like this was a production they were actually
- 8:29Speaker 3: putting on. Everyone was fully costumed, they used the entire cast.
- 8:35Speaker 2: It wasn't just a screwed shot.
- 8:37Speaker 1: There's shots at the end with tiny Tim and his family,
- 8:42Speaker 1: Bob Cratchett, and I loved all of those scenes. I
- 8:46Speaker 1: thought that was so well done. Okay, look, do you
- 8:50Speaker 1: really get that excited for like community theater. Like if
- 8:53Speaker 1: this was a Broadway production, I might be more interested.
- 8:56Speaker 1: But it was ninety seconds. It was exactly the sorry
- 8:59Speaker 1: I wanted it. Sorry, No, it pays me to say
- 9:02Speaker 1: it to you because I loved Julie Sherman Wolf, but
- 9:05Speaker 1: I hated this movie. You hated this movie? It there
- 9:10Speaker 1: was not There were not many things in this movie
- 9:13Speaker 1: that like kept me interested at all? Did you like
- 9:18Speaker 1: anything else? I have a couple of things here. I mean,
- 9:20Speaker 1: I have thought Brooke Doorsay was great as Cassie, Like
- 9:24Speaker 1: she's very natural. She's like an actress that I'm interested
- 9:28Speaker 1: in watching. She's not like erratic, She's not you know,
- 9:31Speaker 1: she doesn't. Last week I complained about how annoying Kimberly
- 9:35Speaker 1: Williams Paisley was in Sister Swap, and like, comparatively Brooke
- 9:41Speaker 1: do or say. I know, they're totally different characters, but
- 9:44Speaker 1: she it could have gone like she could have gone
- 9:46Speaker 1: all crazy because like her her main actor quit and whatever.
- 9:50Speaker 1: She just was like cool and calm, collected. I liked her.
- 9:53Speaker 1: I liked her. I liked the lack of drama, like
- 9:56Speaker 1: overblown drama right this movie. I agree, if we were
- 10:00Speaker 1: going to really drill down into it. Fine. I totally
- 10:03Speaker 1: agree with that as well. I think I'm just so
- 10:06Speaker 1: accustomed to watching like, you know, freak out for no
- 10:11Speaker 1: reason type movies. Yeah, you know, and this was like
- 10:14Speaker 1: not that. So maybe I'm just jaded a little bit.
- 10:20Speaker 1: Maybe it's not what I expected. And that's why I
- 10:22Speaker 1: was like, maybe we're one hundred and seven movies into
- 10:25Speaker 1: this Christmas season. That too, and I was rapping gifts
- 10:28Speaker 1: at the same time, and like, you know, I didn't
- 10:30Speaker 1: give it like a ton of my attention. I think
- 10:33Speaker 1: that's a mistake. I thought this was a really warm
- 10:35Speaker 1: and lovely movie. So you think I should go back
- 10:36Speaker 1: and watch it like on my TV and of my phone.
- 10:40Speaker 1: Did you see the scene between the brothers their reconciliation, Yes,
- 10:44Speaker 1: and it makes my liked liss. I thought that was
- 10:48Speaker 1: actually the most compelling storyline, just because tension like that
- 10:54Speaker 1: between families is real. It wasn't like this manufactured drama.
- 11:00Speaker 1: It was very relatable. Yes, and when they made up,
- 11:05Speaker 1: I did get like a little bit of like lump
- 11:08Speaker 1: in my throat about it, and I thought it was
- 11:10Speaker 1: a really good scene between these two actors. Yes, so yes,
- 11:14Speaker 1: I did like that too. Hey, what about the green
- 11:17Speaker 1: screen shot when he's filming his fake movie. The green
- 11:21Speaker 1: screen scene. Yes, it was really funny.
- 11:24Speaker 3: Really funny. I had seen it on Twitter. I had
- 11:27Speaker 3: seen the filming of it on Twitter, and they show
- 11:29Speaker 3: him on the car with the green screen, and I
- 11:32Speaker 3: didn't realize that that was for the movie within the movie. Yeah, yeah, yeah,
- 11:37Speaker 3: what's happening in this movie that he's on top of
- 11:40Speaker 3: this speeding car.
- 11:41Speaker 2: But I thought that was funny.
- 11:43Speaker 3: And I think it's kind of a wink and a
- 11:44Speaker 3: nod to Hallmark movies because we do get a lot
- 11:46Speaker 3: of green screen.
- 11:47Speaker 1: Oh, that's funny. I hadn't thought about that. I just
- 11:50Speaker 1: thought it was funn I have this action dude. Yeah.
- 11:52Speaker 1: I thought it was kind of cool because like that
- 11:54Speaker 1: was like a little bit of a departure, you know,
- 11:56Speaker 1: like these movies are like tell us what happened. They
- 11:59Speaker 1: don't show us usually, and this is showing us, And
- 12:02Speaker 1: so I thought that was funny. But then I also
- 12:04Speaker 1: thought he was like a real douchebag in that scene too,
- 12:06Speaker 1: And he was like, what do you mean we gotta
- 12:09Speaker 1: reshoot it again or just because you want to? And hey, everybody,
- 12:12Speaker 1: there's my agent.
- 12:16Speaker 2: Yeah, it does start off like that. That's totally his character.
- 12:19Speaker 3: He's like, I'm this Hollywood hot shot, and I think
- 12:21Speaker 3: he transitions out of it pretty.
- 12:22Speaker 1: Quickly, almost too quickly. Sure they only have an hour
- 12:27Speaker 1: and twenty three minutes, so I know, I know, I know, see.
- 12:31Speaker 1: And then that's like the thing that drives me the
- 12:33Speaker 1: most crazy about all of these Hallmark movies is this
- 12:36Speaker 1: like dickhead guy and then this girl and then he
- 12:39Speaker 1: changes and then everybody's happy. I just tired of that story.
- 12:44Speaker 1: But he was so lovely when he gets the job off,
- 12:46Speaker 1: where he's like, I'm not taking it. I made a commitment,
- 12:50Speaker 1: and then she's like, fine, you're fired. Yeah, okay, I
- 12:55Speaker 1: have a digitee that moment on that second. Okay, we
- 12:58Speaker 1: can wait, we can put again in that Okay, so
- 13:02Speaker 1: I already know that.
- 13:03Speaker 3: My next liked item is I thought Cassie and Jake
- 13:06Speaker 3: had a ton of chemistry.
- 13:08Speaker 1: I don't think they didn't have chemistry. Like I thought
- 13:11Speaker 1: it was fine, but like not enough to give me
- 13:13Speaker 1: like butterflies. And here again, I'm going to compare it
- 13:18Speaker 1: to a movie we reviewed last week. Does Sister Swap
- 13:23Speaker 1: the first one? Their relationship? I don't even remember her name?
- 13:27Speaker 1: Jen and Mark Decklan who's the actor's name? Like they're
- 13:31Speaker 1: like Slowburn was good. This a little bit boring but fine.
- 13:37Speaker 2: A lot of walking in front of the same row.
- 13:40Speaker 3: Shops, like lots of like, let's walk here, let's walk
- 13:44Speaker 3: here again.
- 13:47Speaker 1: Okay, My final like is I liked Ben the assistant.
- 13:50Speaker 1: I oh, he wasn't the agent guy, right?
- 13:53Speaker 2: No, the assistant was a nice one.
- 13:54Speaker 1: And then he promotes him to manager at the end. Okay,
- 13:57Speaker 1: ye I am I mean like I didn't follow like
- 13:59Speaker 1: those details that closely, But okay, I'm glad you liked him.
- 14:03Speaker 1: Who was he played by? Do you know? No?
- 14:05Speaker 2: What did you wish for?
- 14:06Speaker 1: Wait? I have one more little liked And this is
- 14:09Speaker 1: just in the storytelling. I like that Cassie was divorced
- 14:14Speaker 1: and she wasn't this like woe is me, single woman
- 14:16Speaker 1: who didn't make it on Broadway and now is back
- 14:20Speaker 1: directing community theater in this town she grew up in.
- 14:23Speaker 1: Except that's she. But I don't think she was totally
- 14:29Speaker 1: woe is me, I'm single.
- 14:31Speaker 2: I don't think she was projecting that at all.
- 14:33Speaker 3: I think she was trying to find her new direction
- 14:37Speaker 3: in life.
- 14:38Speaker 1: Okay, I just like that. It wasn't like they weren't.
- 14:43Speaker 2: You're alone at Christmas? Whatever shall we do?
- 14:45Speaker 1: That's it? Yes, Ben was played by Nathan Lynne. Okay,
- 14:50Speaker 1: so what did you wish for?
- 14:52Speaker 2: He was also in the Kissing Booth.
- 14:54Speaker 3: Oh, I don't have anything, really, I got to come
- 14:58Speaker 3: up with something.
- 14:59Speaker 1: This better not make a TI three for you. It's
- 15:01Speaker 1: not Top three at all, all right. Besides my note
- 15:05Speaker 1: here that I didn't find Christopher Paula Palaja that appealing.
- 15:11Speaker 1: I thought the movie was a little bit slow. Yeah,
- 15:15Speaker 1: did you think it was slow? I just okay, keep
- 15:18Speaker 1: me entertained.
- 15:20Speaker 2: Yeah, there is not a lot of.
- 15:24Speaker 1: What we've seen a lot this year is a lot
- 15:25Speaker 1: of movies with multiple storylines, and those storylines often keep
- 15:28Speaker 1: the movie chugging along.
- 15:29Speaker 3: There's a lot going on, and in a lot of
- 15:31Speaker 3: cases they've done those really well, and we didn't really
- 15:35Speaker 3: see that. The focus is on Cassie and Jake, and
- 15:38Speaker 3: the focus is on secondarily the production and the brothers.
- 15:43Speaker 2: There's that briefly.
- 15:45Speaker 1: I wish there was more of that. I do too.
- 15:47Speaker 3: I think they could have done more with that, but
- 15:49Speaker 3: there's not a whole lot else going on, and I
- 15:52Speaker 3: do think maybe we needed a little bit more.
- 15:56Speaker 1: I thought the dialogue was snappy. There's lots of like, well,
- 15:59Speaker 1: you know, that's to be Julie Shrman.
- 16:01Speaker 3: Yeah right, And so I saw her fingerprints all over
- 16:05Speaker 3: this like there's just a lot of like sarcastic throwaway comments,
- 16:08Speaker 3: and I thought that was.
- 16:12Speaker 1: Enjoyable. Yeah, cool time for Did you see that?
- 16:16Speaker 3: And why was this movie not called The Dickens of
- 16:18Speaker 3: a Holiday sponsored by Ace Hardware?
- 16:20Speaker 1: Seriously, here's my perfectly brown paper bag with Ace Hardware
- 16:26Speaker 1: right in the forefront of the shot, like my, Hi,
- 16:31Speaker 1: I see you Ace Hardware. Oh I wish we could
- 16:33Speaker 1: touch that up.
- 16:34Speaker 3: Boom eighth Hardware paint delivery Boom eight Hardware in the background.
- 16:38Speaker 1: How many times do they walk by this hardware store? Dumb?
- 16:41Speaker 1: It's the most beautiful hardware store, Steer, I've ever seen.
- 16:44Speaker 2: My hardware stores are ugly.
- 16:45Speaker 1: I don't think there's like an Ace Hardware around here.
- 16:48Speaker 1: There is, there's one close to me. There is, Oh interesting,
- 16:51Speaker 1: but it's not nice like that. Oh yeah, you know
- 16:54Speaker 1: how some hardware stores have like a beautiful like gift area.
- 17:00Speaker 1: Is an Ace Hardware and it has a beautiful gift
- 17:02Speaker 1: shop inside of it, huh in my somewhat area interesting,
- 17:07Speaker 1: Benny whatever, Like I kind of like the idea of
- 17:10Speaker 1: that you would go to a small hardware store. It's
- 17:13Speaker 1: not a big box.
- 17:14Speaker 2: Right, it's all a lows.
- 17:16Speaker 1: It's not no we're at home depot. Yeah, I don't
- 17:19Speaker 1: like that, but God hit us over the head. Yes,
- 17:22Speaker 1: we see that. Ace Hardware was a sponsor and Jake's Jake.
- 17:26Speaker 2: Yes, Jake used to work there.
- 17:28Speaker 1: And so they had to tie that in. It is
- 17:32Speaker 1: a lot. There's some other there's some other product placement.
- 17:35Speaker 1: There's a salon they walk by twice. It has an
- 17:39Speaker 1: Aveda sign in the window. Some time they walk by it,
- 17:41Speaker 1: you can see it may be an Aveda salon, it's
- 17:44Speaker 1: hard to tell. And then underneath you can see like
- 17:46Speaker 1: there's a bumble and bumble branding in the window as well.
- 17:49Speaker 1: You know that was just like on accident that they
- 17:53Speaker 1: shot that so large and in charge that it's not
- 17:55Speaker 1: on accident.
- 17:56Speaker 2: It's huge free.
- 17:58Speaker 1: Advertising for a because it happens twice, it's very clear.
- 18:02Speaker 1: It's not like blink and you'll miss it. Yeah, very
- 18:05Speaker 1: much framed into the shot. It is like, thank you
- 18:08Speaker 1: very much for that.
- 18:09Speaker 3: Yes, they could have hung a Dickens of a holiday
- 18:14Speaker 3: Christmas Carol flyer over it? Yeah, one of this dude's
- 18:18Speaker 3: movie posters.
- 18:19Speaker 1: I could have done.
- 18:20Speaker 2: Cover it.
- 18:21Speaker 1: Move that damn chestnut. I don't know what car in
- 18:24Speaker 1: front of it. Oh, I have a question about that.
- 18:27Speaker 1: Have you ever eaten like warm chestnuts from like a
- 18:31Speaker 1: street vendor? Yeah?
- 18:32Speaker 3: Never, you'll see them when you're in New York, though
- 18:34Speaker 3: they actually do have them on this I don't know
- 18:36Speaker 3: if I've ever.
- 18:37Speaker 1: Oh, I like water chestnuts. Are they the same? No?
- 18:41Speaker 1: I don't think so. I have no idea, but I'm
- 18:46Speaker 1: not eating nuts from the street. So better than meat.
- 18:49Speaker 1: I like street meat though sometimes, especially in New York,
- 18:52Speaker 1: so you.
- 18:53Speaker 2: Would need nuts. I don't know salmonella.
- 18:55Speaker 1: Sometimes nuts upset my stomach. Oh, okay, and I want
- 18:59Speaker 1: to I think I have an allergy, but I don't know.
- 19:01Speaker 1: You might. I know you should go get that tested,
- 19:05Speaker 1: plan on it. About one twenty too, About one of
- 19:08Speaker 1: those like uh sensitivity tests? Yes I did. I'm pointing
- 19:13Speaker 1: to my finger like a finger pricked test, but yes, yes,
- 19:16Speaker 1: one of those. I read your mind. Yeah, okay, did
- 19:20Speaker 1: you notice? I feel like and I don't know where
- 19:24Speaker 1: they were at, but it was the outdoor scene, and
- 19:26Speaker 1: I swear it's that same like lodge that we see.
- 19:28Speaker 3: Yes, I said, is this the same house as Eight
- 19:30Speaker 3: Gifts of Honkkah? Yes, every other movie from this year. Yeah, right,
- 19:33Speaker 3: I think it might be. But I don't know if
- 19:35Speaker 3: the inside was the same or not. I just felt
- 19:37Speaker 3: it might have been the exterior shot.
- 19:39Speaker 2: It's hard to tell in these interior shots.
- 19:41Speaker 3: The interior looked familiar, but I don't know if it's
- 19:44Speaker 3: It didn't look like the same interior from Eight Gifts
- 19:47Speaker 3: of Hanukkah, but it looked like maybe an interior we
- 19:51Speaker 3: had seen before. And then I thought maybe they used
- 19:54Speaker 3: that exterior twice, like they used it again when they
- 19:56Speaker 3: went to the bar.
- 19:58Speaker 1: Maybe.
- 19:58Speaker 3: I don't know, but that big lodge this time it
- 20:01Speaker 3: had a lot of Christmas ad core all over it,
- 20:03Speaker 3: and so it was slightly obscured, like maybe they were
- 20:06Speaker 3: trying to make it look different. But I do think
- 20:08Speaker 3: they're using this wooden exterior for so many of these movies.
- 20:12Speaker 1: They're just like kitching, Yeah, go ahead and use our place.
- 20:15Speaker 1: I would I guess. Okay, here's my other thing. Did
- 20:18Speaker 1: you see that the play was on Christmas Eve? Right? Oh?
- 20:21Speaker 1: My gosh, uh huh, And we just did a whole
- 20:23Speaker 1: episode of the things our families do on Christmas Eve.
- 20:26Speaker 1: Would you go see a community theater play on Christmas Eve?
- 20:29Speaker 3: You're right, I did have a wish, and my wish
- 20:31Speaker 3: is that they would stop having big events on Christmas
- 20:34Speaker 3: Eve because nobody wants to go to them. Don't go
- 20:36Speaker 3: to a Christmas lighting, don't go to the opening of
- 20:38Speaker 3: a Christmas museum, don't go to the Christmas play. Even
- 20:41Speaker 3: your standard church children's pageant is not on Christmas Eve,
- 20:47Speaker 3: Like our church has a Christmas Eve service where the
- 20:49Speaker 3: people who work there are expected to work because Christmas
- 20:52Speaker 3: Eve is rather a big day for them. But they're
- 20:55Speaker 3: not hosting the Christmas pageant, they're not hosting the sing along,
- 20:59Speaker 3: they're not hosting all of these events on Christmas Eve because.
- 21:02Speaker 1: They know families have other things right do.
- 21:05Speaker 3: So No, I would not go to a community theater
- 21:07Speaker 3: showing of a Christmas carol, although.
- 21:11Speaker 2: That's not the same thing I.
- 21:12Speaker 1: Was gonna say. Growing up, we would often go to
- 21:14Speaker 1: the movies on Christmas Day. My parents do that because.
- 21:17Speaker 3: We don't have a lot of family locally, and so
- 21:19Speaker 3: would That's what that was what we would do. We
- 21:21Speaker 3: would see whatever the family the night before yeah, oh okay,
- 21:25Speaker 3: and then yes it.
- 21:26Speaker 1: Was like we would go see the biggest like movie whenever.
- 21:29Speaker 2: That Christmas Day release was all the time.
- 21:32Speaker 1: But no, I would not go see a Christmas Carol
- 21:36Speaker 1: on Christmas Eve? Okay, like December seventeenth, right two, the
- 21:40Speaker 1: week before. I don't even make a thing of it.
- 21:42Speaker 1: But it said on the marquet December twenty four. Yes,
- 21:45Speaker 1: here's my second question. The party that he's supposed to
- 21:48Speaker 1: go to, like the big Hollywood party. You're telling me
- 21:51Speaker 1: that's on Christmas Eve because it's the same night as
- 21:52Speaker 1: the production and.
- 21:53Speaker 3: He gets back somehow does he not go I don't remember.
- 21:57Speaker 1: I don't know when he'd got the part and then
- 21:59Speaker 1: it came back act I don't remember. I don't know.
- 22:02Speaker 1: Was it an action part? What kind of movie was
- 22:04Speaker 1: it for? No, it was not.
- 22:08Speaker 2: It was a drama. And that's why he originally wasn't.
- 22:11Speaker 3: Excuse me, the dog is causing trouble. That's why he
- 22:14Speaker 3: originally wasn't gonna get it because they didn't believe.
- 22:15Speaker 1: Him as a serious actor because he was did somebody
- 22:19Speaker 1: come see his like?
- 22:20Speaker 3: No?
- 22:20Speaker 1: Ben sent clip oh Okay, see I totally did not
- 22:23Speaker 1: watch it that closely. Then to the Rescue, and he
- 22:27Speaker 1: was pretty great as Scrooge. I gotta say great as Scrooge.
- 22:30Speaker 1: I was surprised by how great he was at Scrooge.
- 22:34Speaker 1: So let's you think that's in his sizzle reel now,
- 22:37Speaker 1: like you is he can even like other acting jobs
- 22:40Speaker 1: outside of the Hallmark universe. Well, I actually think he's
- 22:43Speaker 1: actually quite prolific outside of the hall he's got I loved,
- 22:46Speaker 1: he's got like a handful like NCIS or some bullshit
- 22:50Speaker 1: like that, Like you know what I mean, not that
- 22:53Speaker 1: NCIS is bullshit, but you know, like he's like here.
- 22:56Speaker 2: In sixty nine acting credits.
- 22:58Speaker 1: Read those credits. I know a lot of them are
- 23:01Speaker 1: are reporter and so like that. It's not lead roll stuff,
- 23:08Speaker 1: top billiing, He's not you know Tom Hanks, Right, he's
- 23:14Speaker 1: like a guest spot in many of these. So you
- 23:17Speaker 1: really think we need to add his name to our
- 23:19Speaker 1: Dudes of Hallmark T shirt? I mean, how long are
- 23:21Speaker 1: we getting now? Well? I mean Mark Declan was definitely
- 23:26Speaker 1: an oversight. I agree. I that was my first thought.
- 23:31Speaker 1: I think Christopher, Christopher, who do I think people will
- 23:37Speaker 1: say that. Yes. Did I say that? Yes? Because I
- 23:39Speaker 1: had never seen this guy before. Do you consider yourself
- 23:42Speaker 1: immersed in the Hallmark community these days? Yes? I had.
- 23:46Speaker 1: How many movies have I watched this year? I'm gonna
- 23:49Speaker 1: have to go back and give the count at least sixty.
- 23:52Speaker 1: I've never seen him in a Hallmark movie? No, not
- 23:55Speaker 1: any of the ones I've watched since Last Countdown to Christmas. No,
- 24:01Speaker 1: Small Town Christmas twenty eighteen might have been his last
- 24:05Speaker 1: Hallmark movie. Is he then considered a Hallmark dude? I
- 24:09Speaker 1: would say, no, fair enough, fair enough? Okay, what did
- 24:13Speaker 1: you rate this movie? I gave it two stars because
- 24:16Speaker 1: it just did not keep me invested in three point
- 24:18Speaker 1: two five stars. Wows just made me feel good. It
- 24:22Speaker 1: made me feel good. I thought it was great. Okay,
- 24:26Speaker 1: I'm glad it's not a top three because it's sure.
- 24:29Speaker 1: Did you like it better than A Christmas Sale? No? Okay, No?
- 24:33Speaker 3: A Christmas Sale is going to be hard to knock
- 24:35Speaker 3: down because it's totally unique to me, because the driving storyline.
- 24:39Speaker 1: For me was the father daughter really totally.
- 24:42Speaker 2: Even though there is a romance and that.
- 24:46Speaker 1: Just so much about Terry o'quinn's performance was so great
- 24:50Speaker 1: that I don't think it can be knocked out of
- 24:52Speaker 1: the top three, especially not at this stage in the game.
- 24:54Speaker 1: It's it's holding strong. I need to see Terry O'Quinn.
- 24:58Speaker 1: We need to start a Terry O'Quinn hashtag for like
- 25:01Speaker 1: four year consideration for an Emmy nomination. Show. Yeah, don't
- 25:05Speaker 1: you think so? I thought he was so good in
- 25:07Speaker 1: that movie. I agree. She doesn't buy it, guys. Coming
- 25:13Speaker 1: up on Girls Gone Hallmark, we have a Patreon episode
- 25:17Speaker 1: of Sister Swap.
- 25:19Speaker 2: I'm calling it Sister Swap too.
- 25:21Speaker 1: I believe it's called Christmas in the City. It's the
- 25:24Speaker 1: City Mouse.
- 25:25Speaker 3: Story starring Ashley william And. We also have next week
- 25:28Speaker 3: Christmas House two.
- 25:29Speaker 1: The actual name of the movie. Have you had a
- 25:32Speaker 1: chance to watch Christmas House One? No, I just don't know.
- 25:35Speaker 1: I'm going to be traveling over the next couple of days.
- 25:37Speaker 1: I'm gonna make it happen. Though.
- 25:39Speaker 3: I'm gonna say this. I'm gonna say they're gonna make
- 25:40Speaker 3: it pretty easy for you to follow. Okay, good, I
- 25:43Speaker 3: think I think you can. I think you can catch
- 25:45Speaker 3: up to what's I saw the grandma bounce in a baby,
- 25:48Speaker 3: So there is a baby there is a baby. We
- 25:50Speaker 3: found out at the end of the First Christmas House
- 25:53Speaker 3: that the Jonathan Bennett couple is adopting.
- 25:56Speaker 1: They got the baby, got the baby. I'm excited.
