Transcript
- 0:00Speaker 1: Now the guardian Angel of talk radio is here. Curtis
- 0:05Speaker 1: Leewah guest host the Mark Simone Show on seven to ten.
- 0:09Speaker 2: Woo oh yeah.
- 0:20Speaker 3: My responsibility as being on Mark Simone's turf, the best
- 0:27Speaker 3: talk radio host in our region bar none. And I'm
- 0:32Speaker 3: sure Greg Kelly was listening over there at WABC doing
- 0:34Speaker 3: his show prep as he always did by listening to
- 0:38Speaker 3: Mark Simone. Hey, why not? He had good stuff and
- 0:42Speaker 3: always says good stuff. He'll be back on the fifth
- 0:46Speaker 3: on Monday, but I'll be back on Friday. And the
- 0:50Speaker 3: kind of talk radio I do is different than most
- 0:54Speaker 3: because I believe that we have this opportunity to speak
- 0:58Speaker 3: to all of you now because of the technology, not
- 1:02Speaker 3: just throughout the Try State area, throughout the United States,
- 1:04Speaker 3: but all over the world, because any radio station can
- 1:10Speaker 3: be picked up virtually anywhere. And I've heard from a
- 1:14Speaker 3: lot of people listening to me on wor my place
- 1:17Speaker 3: to be seven to ten. Never again at WABC, which
- 1:21Speaker 3: the acronym stands for always blaming Curtis, for Zara Mandami
- 1:25Speaker 3: being the mayor and always bashing Curtis even to this day.
- 1:31Speaker 3: You think they would give it up, right, Ain't coming
- 1:34Speaker 3: back there? Never I'd rather live in a homeless shelter.
- 1:37Speaker 3: I'd rather be stuck on the number four train and
- 1:39Speaker 3: going round than round. They're outd is he? You think
- 1:42Speaker 3: people understand that? And this is a much better station
- 1:46Speaker 3: in a lot of different ways. But this thing of ours,
- 1:50Speaker 3: talk radio, it requires that you pay homage to it. Now,
- 1:55Speaker 3: Mark Simone does because nobody knows more about radio and
- 1:58Speaker 3: television then March some mom and he talks about it regularly.
- 2:03Speaker 3: I listened to his show, and as you know now
- 2:07Speaker 3: you have the benefit doesn't have to be appointment radio.
- 2:10Speaker 3: You can always get it on the podcast. But I
- 2:13Speaker 3: want to touch on a few things before I do
- 2:16Speaker 3: my homage in these last two days, for the reason
- 2:21Speaker 3: that many of us have the opportunity to speak to
- 2:24Speaker 3: all of you, whether in live form or if you
- 2:29Speaker 3: wanted to listen to three four days, a month later,
- 2:32Speaker 3: a year later on these podcasts. First off from Nancy
- 2:39Speaker 3: and yours, truly, we have a special message. New Year's
- 2:44Speaker 3: message will be posting to all of you, the many
- 2:48Speaker 3: hundreds of thousands who have now become followers all over
- 2:51Speaker 3: the world on all the platforms. So whether it's TikTok
- 2:55Speaker 3: that most of you know nothing about Oh you gotta
- 2:57Speaker 3: be on tik talk did you see so on? He
- 3:00Speaker 3: trust me, he didn't get elected because he was on TikTok.
- 3:04Speaker 3: Two years ago. President Donald Trump is saying this is
- 3:07Speaker 3: a red Chinese stripe to take over America, and then
- 3:11Speaker 3: all of a sudden he discovered, hey, maybe I can
- 3:13Speaker 3: get a few votes with this, and then all of
- 3:15Speaker 3: a sudden, yeah, we love TikTok. TikTok does not get
- 3:19Speaker 3: you elected to anything. So whether it's TikTok, Instagram or Facebook,
- 3:27Speaker 3: where you're you're putting on there what you had for
- 3:29Speaker 3: beakfast this morning at the local diner. Do I need
- 3:33Speaker 3: to see you having eggs and pancakes, you know with toast? Yeah? Yeah,
- 3:38Speaker 3: you post what you had for lunch and then a
- 3:41Speaker 3: mad on am your life must be so miserable? Is
- 3:46Speaker 3: that all you compose? And of course Ellen Musk x,
- 3:49Speaker 3: Twitter so many different ways to get you a message out,
- 3:53Speaker 3: But our message to everybody listening right now and they'll
- 3:57Speaker 3: be posted later on at Curtisley whichever you can get
- 4:00Speaker 3: that social network? Is that all Nancy and I want
- 4:05Speaker 3: for this New Year's is for all stray and shelter
- 4:09Speaker 3: animals to have a loving home. And I know for
- 4:13Speaker 3: some of you we're like, oh here it goes with
- 4:15Speaker 3: the animal welfare stuff. Yeah. And again as we welcome
- 4:19Speaker 3: in a new year, it doesn't get any better than
- 4:23Speaker 3: Mahatma Gandhi again a victim of an assassination because of
- 4:28Speaker 3: his beliefs, but a man who's said, is society that
- 4:32Speaker 3: does not take care of its animals does not take
- 4:34Speaker 3: care of its people. And on my way here to
- 4:37Speaker 3: Wor seven ten to do this broadcast to all of you,
- 4:43Speaker 3: I had to pass the homeless people and emotionally disturbed
- 4:47Speaker 3: persons in the subway because the hawk is talking out
- 4:51Speaker 3: there it's cold, and talk with them, many of them
- 4:56Speaker 3: that I know, And see all the flots and jets.
- 5:01Speaker 3: As I came up top to the street, I was
- 5:03Speaker 3: picking up the garbage. It was flying all over and
- 5:06Speaker 3: people are looking at me. You pick up garbage too,
- 5:08Speaker 3: and so what is it? That's where I was raised
- 5:12Speaker 3: by my grandfather, Fidela Bianngino from body Italy. On my
- 5:17Speaker 3: mother's side, Francesca side. He said, one young which means
- 5:22Speaker 3: young man, young boy. You see garbage? Yeah, like you
- 5:26Speaker 3: heard Eric Adams say, we're gonna talk about him a
- 5:28Speaker 3: second at Mama Luke. But anyway, you see something, you
- 5:32Speaker 3: see something. Hey. Long before they ever quantified that statement,
- 5:38Speaker 3: my grandfather would tell me, Hey, you see garbage, you
- 5:40Speaker 3: pick it up. If you can't find a can and
- 5:43Speaker 3: put it in, you put it in your pocket until
- 5:45Speaker 3: you can find a can. That's where I was brought up,
- 5:50Speaker 3: and many of you listening now were brought up. And
- 5:53Speaker 3: it used to be the sanitation department. After they pick
- 5:56Speaker 3: up the garbage, it had brooms on the truck. Remember
- 5:58Speaker 3: when they would have broom were the brooms now? Huh?
- 6:02Speaker 3: They pick up the garbage and that's it, not my job.
- 6:05Speaker 3: Then we have these business improvement districts. They hire mostly
- 6:10Speaker 3: mental women who have been down on their luck, and
- 6:12Speaker 3: they go out there and they change the trash can
- 6:15Speaker 3: bags and they do a little sweeping and that's all good.
- 6:20Speaker 3: We never needed that. Years ago, everybody picked up the garbage.
- 6:26Speaker 3: So people were looking at me this morning on my
- 6:28Speaker 3: way here to wo Oh, like I believe, like I
- 6:32Speaker 3: belong in the Museum of Natural History, Like here is
- 6:36Speaker 3: a species from a different era that actually believes if
- 6:39Speaker 3: you see something garbage on the ground, you pick it up.
- 6:43Speaker 3: The problem is that the police Commissioner, Jessicatsh who you
- 6:48Speaker 3: all fall and over. When she was sanitation commissioner, she
- 6:52Speaker 3: took half the baskets off the streets. Well, if there
- 6:56Speaker 3: are less baskets, there'll be less garbage. Ugh, past the
- 7:01Speaker 3: great poupon jescatage, Maybe Jeeves or a limo driver on
- 7:04Speaker 3: Park Avenue can get you to one police plaza. That
- 7:08Speaker 3: was a disastrous program. Some of the folks in the
- 7:12Speaker 3: MTA money taking agency, you know, they were having the
- 7:15Speaker 3: press conference. Yet it's the end of the metro card
- 7:19Speaker 3: and now all of a sudden you're gonna have to
- 7:21Speaker 3: tap and go the omni card, debit card, credit card.
- 7:24Speaker 3: There'll be nothing left the beginning of the year on
- 7:26Speaker 3: your debit or credit card. So good luck. And I'm
- 7:29Speaker 3: saying to myself, are these people delusional? One third of
- 7:34Speaker 3: the people don't even pay their subway for their to
- 7:36Speaker 3: begin with, and that's gonna increase with zor on Mondamique.
- 7:39Speaker 3: One half don't even pay the city bus fare. They
- 7:42Speaker 3: don't do a tap in go, they don't have a
- 7:44Speaker 3: metro card, and if you say anything to them, they
- 7:47Speaker 3: give you the finger. They're defiant. So they're all mourning
- 7:51Speaker 3: the loss of the Metro card. What are you talking about?
- 7:55Speaker 3: Half the people didn't even use a Metro card to
- 7:58Speaker 3: get in on a bus, one third on the subway. Oh,
- 8:03Speaker 3: because of the crime that never gets dealt with. It's
- 8:06Speaker 3: called fair evasion. That's a crime. Let's face it. Let's
- 8:11Speaker 3: not make any arrests. Let's not make people pay the
- 8:16Speaker 3: fair even though they are all kind of programs. If
- 8:18Speaker 3: you're down on your luck, half fair, one third fare,
- 8:22Speaker 3: but you gotta go out and get that right. We're
- 8:25Speaker 3: not gonna bring you to eat. So that's my first observation.
- 8:30Speaker 3: And then all of a sudden, I'm on the subway
- 8:35Speaker 3: platform and I'm trying to give tourist directions because naturally
- 8:39Speaker 3: the token booth clerks who do nothing. Now it's like
- 8:42Speaker 3: a feather bettered job. They should be out of the
- 8:45Speaker 3: booth giving instructions to people at the machines to be
- 8:50Speaker 3: able to pay their fare because he's getting scammed by
- 8:53Speaker 3: every hustler in the world. But they should also be
- 8:56Speaker 3: telling people how to get around town. So I'm helping
- 8:58Speaker 3: tourists and many of them already know me. Hey, Curtis,
- 9:01Speaker 3: I'm trying to get down to where else? The World
- 9:04Speaker 3: Trade Center, that's where they want to go. See the battery,
- 9:07Speaker 3: want to see the Statue of Liberty, all the places
- 9:09Speaker 3: that we folks, we don't go because we know that's
- 9:13Speaker 3: where all the tourists go. Like, if any of you
- 9:16Speaker 3: are schmucks or puttses and you're gonna go down to
- 9:19Speaker 3: Times Square to watch the ball drop, did you not
- 9:22Speaker 3: hear Jessica Tish say, Oh, they're gonna be double screenings.
- 9:26Speaker 3: They took all the garbage cans away. There's no porter sands,
- 9:30Speaker 3: there's none of that. They cattle cars. And you're gonna
- 9:33Speaker 3: start mooing at three o'clock. That's when they're gonna start
- 9:39Speaker 3: letting you in. And once you're in, you don't get out.
- 9:42Speaker 3: You get out, you don't come back. So imagine you've
- 9:46Speaker 3: already been drinking a few. It's three o'clock. The ball
- 9:49Speaker 3: doesn't drop until, uh, until all of a sudden the
- 9:54Speaker 3: new year comes in. Right, say, let me, I'm not
- 9:57Speaker 3: too good at nine hours? Right, nine hours? You think
- 10:01Speaker 3: you could hold it in nine hours? Have you been
- 10:03Speaker 3: drinking a few? Hoisting a few? That's why on my
- 10:07Speaker 3: way over here, I stopped at a few Dwayne Reid's
- 10:09Speaker 3: and CVS's wiped out of depends wiped out because people
- 10:16Speaker 3: live their whole life to come to watch the ball
- 10:19Speaker 3: drop on Times Square, and they come from Monta, Mexico City,
- 10:25Speaker 3: and they come from ky Town, South Africa. They come
- 10:28Speaker 3: from everywhere because they want that experience. But if you
- 10:31Speaker 3: happen to be living in this Tri state area and
- 10:33Speaker 3: you're stupid enough to show up because you want to
- 10:36Speaker 3: be able to talk about it, don't waste your time.
- 10:43Speaker 3: But make sure you have depends on. Yeah, because remember,
- 10:47Speaker 3: we come into this world with diapers at some point,
- 10:51Speaker 3: and most of us when we go out of this world,
- 10:53Speaker 3: we'll be wearing diapers. So get ready. And here's Jessicati saying, yeah,
- 10:58Speaker 3: there'll be two screenings. Okay, Jessica, you keep talking and
- 11:04Speaker 3: then of course, uh, there's a boss. But thank god,
- 11:08Speaker 3: just the final day that Mama Luke, what a cry baby.
- 11:13Speaker 3: Eric Adams the most corrupt mayor in the history of
- 11:15Speaker 3: New York City, and that is saying a lot. The
- 11:18Speaker 3: swaggerman with no plan and the nightlife mayor. All he
- 11:21Speaker 3: ever did was hang out in clubs till they break
- 11:23Speaker 3: of dawn and a man who just waited to be
- 11:26Speaker 3: wind eying them pocket lined, and if my sources are correct,
- 11:31Speaker 3: decided to drop out a running for mayor when the
- 11:34Speaker 3: price was right. Uh you remember that show the price
- 11:40Speaker 3: was right? I think I think he settled on twenty mil.
- 11:43Speaker 3: I think time will tell, because then he was like, well,
- 11:48Speaker 3: should I go to the inauguration at city? Should ain't
- 11:51Speaker 3: not go?
- 11:52Speaker 4: I wouldn't have made asked me to go in and
- 11:54Speaker 4: tell your peepsys An Easterns. Don't yell at me, don't
- 11:58Speaker 4: shout at what a mama, luke, what a baby? And
- 12:03Speaker 4: so I guess the mayor had a conversation with him,
- 12:06Speaker 4: the incoming mayor, Yeah, yeah.
- 12:07Speaker 3: You should be there. Oh I'm gonna be there, Like wow, wow,
- 12:12Speaker 3: Eric Adams, He's the reason this is sore. Had Mandami,
- 12:17Speaker 3: had he done anywhere of a decent job, halfway job,
- 12:21Speaker 3: he would have been the Democratic incumbent mayor running for reelection.
- 12:25Speaker 3: I would have been the Republican candidate. And hey, it
- 12:28Speaker 3: would have been tough. It's tough for a Republican to
- 12:31Speaker 3: begin with. He failed, and then they resurrected that political
- 12:37Speaker 3: some be Cuomo. By the way, is anybody seeing Cuomo
- 12:39Speaker 3: Will he be at the inauguration, of course not. Is
- 12:43Speaker 3: he anywhere other than hanging out with his billionaire friends
- 12:46Speaker 3: as he's slithered under his rock in the Hampton's where
- 12:49Speaker 3: he loves to be. Maybe he can launch it after
- 12:51Speaker 3: the run for mayor of Southampton. So here was Eric Adams.
- 12:55Speaker 3: You were told I'm gonna write a book. I got
- 12:59Speaker 3: the title ready. I didn't do nothing wrong. He's gonna
- 13:02Speaker 3: get involved in cryptocurrency, which is bitcoin crime coin, and
- 13:07Speaker 3: he wants to teach a new generation of how to
- 13:09Speaker 3: become criminals, because that's what blockchain cryptocurrency is. It's a scam.
- 13:15Speaker 3: We'll talk about that on Friday, my last day here.
- 13:18Speaker 3: We're gonna talk about AI. Oh my god, what a headache.
- 13:21Speaker 3: And also robotics because the masters of the universe are
- 13:26Speaker 3: all telling you to worry about it. We're gonna take
- 13:28Speaker 3: your jobs, but we're gonna give you a universal high
- 13:32Speaker 3: income of about one hundred and fifty thousand dollars a year.
- 13:35Speaker 3: You're not gonna have to do nothing. You just sit
- 13:39Speaker 3: at home, scratch your belly button. We're going to take
- 13:42Speaker 3: care of you. You trust any of them, We'll get
- 13:46Speaker 3: into all of that. These are subjects, many of which
- 13:49Speaker 3: don't get discussed and talk radio. And then of course
- 13:54Speaker 3: there is Eric Adams on his way out, who has
- 13:59Speaker 3: decided that, hey, you know, there is things I'm going
- 14:04Speaker 3: to do to try to make amends. He said, signing
- 14:08Speaker 3: an executive order today. I always had breaking news, right, Hey,
- 14:12Speaker 3: this is Mark Simon's turf. It's not my turf. I
- 14:16Speaker 3: had breaking news. He's using an executive order in the
- 14:19Speaker 3: waning moments of his horrible mayoralty to have charter revision.
- 14:25Speaker 3: Now what that is, ladies and gentlemen. He's going to
- 14:27Speaker 3: assign people to actually put on the ballot this coming year,
- 14:33Speaker 3: the gubernatory year, the midterm elections on the back of
- 14:35Speaker 3: your ballot, things that you as citizens can vote on.
- 14:41Speaker 3: I think the chairman is I gotta check my sources
- 14:46Speaker 3: on this, but got it on pretty good authority. My
- 14:50Speaker 3: husband and lawd David Pattison, the former governor, a man
- 14:54Speaker 3: who needs adderall. In this last mayoral election. First, he
- 14:58Speaker 3: was Ferriick Adams, and he was for and he was
- 15:00Speaker 3: for Eric Adams and he was for Como. He gave
- 15:02Speaker 3: me vertigo and I said, do me a favor and
- 15:05Speaker 3: don't endorse me. It's a kiss her death and it was,
- 15:09Speaker 3: so give him some adderall he'll be on the charity commission.
- 15:12Speaker 3: I guess the Mayor's going to have some others. And
- 15:15Speaker 3: there should be the question of sanctuary city up there,
- 15:18Speaker 3: which I talked about during the campaign. Let the people vote.
- 15:22Speaker 3: Let the people, boy, A lot of people will come
- 15:24Speaker 3: out to vote in an election on that issue. Whether
- 15:27Speaker 3: you're for it or against it. You can have town
- 15:31Speaker 3: hall meetings, you can have spirited debate. You will have
- 15:35Speaker 3: a lot of people coming out to vote in nothing
- 15:37Speaker 3: more because of that issue. Let's see what Eric Adams
- 15:44Speaker 3: is going to do. And how about putting on the
- 15:47Speaker 3: initiative and referendum for twenty twenty six, once and for all,
- 15:51Speaker 3: voting on the horse joint carriage issue. Let the people decide.
- 15:59Speaker 3: And on that note, it's gonna lead us into a
- 16:02Speaker 3: homage coming up to the man who was considered the
- 16:06Speaker 3: father of talk radio, and he started right here on WOR. Yeah, Yeah,
- 16:13Speaker 3: our new favorite station here in the sleeper household. Nancy,
- 16:17Speaker 3: yours truly and yet our six cats we listen to
- 16:22Speaker 3: seven ten WOR and so shit, all of you our
- 16:28Speaker 3: numbers one, eight hundred three to two one zero seven ten.
- 16:31Speaker 3: That's one eight hundred three to two one zero seven ten.
- 16:35Speaker 3: The Pulse of.
- 16:36Speaker 1: New York Now on the Voice of New York, Curtis
- 16:41Speaker 1: Sleewall guest host marks them all on sevent ten wor.
- 16:52Speaker 3: Oh you're not gonna want to miss Friday one, I'm back.
- 16:56Speaker 3: We talk about artificial intelligence, like that Stephen King novel
- 17:03Speaker 3: What was that that collection of his works? Like em
- 17:10Speaker 3: You remember that song?
- 17:11Speaker 2: Is?
- 17:11Speaker 3: He certainly doesn't remember that. That wasn't his play? Less
- 17:16Speaker 3: the End of the World as we know it?
- 17:18Speaker 5: Right?
- 17:20Speaker 3: We'll discuss that because it affects everybody, everybody, and it's
- 17:25Speaker 3: moving too fast and too many of you may end
- 17:30Speaker 3: up losing your jobs unfortunately as a result of what
- 17:34Speaker 3: they call artificial intelligence. But let's talk about the homage
- 17:40Speaker 3: to talk radio, of which many of you loved. You
- 17:43Speaker 3: grew up with it as I did, and the father
- 17:45Speaker 3: of talk radio is rarely, if ever recognized now and
- 17:49Speaker 3: it started all here at war seven ten. Who is
- 17:52Speaker 3: a guy? Barry Gray? Barry Gray was from Mike Believe
- 17:56Speaker 3: it was Red and Lion New Jersey got a job?
- 17:59Speaker 3: Is disc jockey bat then spinning stacks of wax I
- 18:04Speaker 3: think he was playing a Woody Herman song, and then
- 18:07Speaker 3: Woody Herman called up. And then right after Woody Herman
- 18:12Speaker 3: hung up, instead of going back to playing records, Harry
- 18:18Speaker 3: Gray crushed over that maginal line and started to take
- 18:23Speaker 3: people that were calling up on the request line and
- 18:27Speaker 3: having conversations with them. So the suits at w R
- 18:32Speaker 3: some of them were saying, wait, wait, you're just supposed
- 18:34Speaker 3: to be playing stacks of wax occasionally, you know, you
- 18:37Speaker 3: talk to Benny Goodman or Woody Herman. You don't be
- 18:41Speaker 3: taking calls. And others said, no, that was so fascinating.
- 18:46Speaker 3: That's how talk radio was invented, because talk radio is
- 18:50Speaker 3: really about the conversation that we have with all of you.
- 18:53Speaker 3: It's not so much guest oriented, it's you. The call
- 18:57Speaker 3: is your turn to be hurt, so to get give
- 19:00Speaker 3: you an idea in the golden age of radio. He
- 19:04Speaker 3: then is hosting an overnight show at the Copa Cabana.
- 19:07Speaker 3: I mean that was the place you wanted to be.
- 19:09Speaker 3: I know you recognize that is the Barry Manilo the
- 19:12Speaker 3: song Copa Cabana, East sixtieth Street, right off of Fifth Avenue.
- 19:17Speaker 3: Everybody wanted to go there. Couldn't go mob controlled by
- 19:20Speaker 3: Frank Costello, and he had like the first interview with
- 19:25Speaker 3: Dean Martin who was from Stubenville, Ohio, and the teen
- 19:30Speaker 3: that was put together Jerry Lewis, so as Martin Lewis.
- 19:33Speaker 3: Jerry Lewis was from the Newert And boy, if you're
- 19:37Speaker 3: gonna watch one movie, you gonna watch one movie over
- 19:40Speaker 3: this weekend. You gotta see one of my favorites, The
- 19:43Speaker 3: King of Comedy with Jerry Lewis and Robert de Niro.
- 19:47Speaker 3: It is absolutely outstanding. Never gets the credit that it's due.
- 19:55Speaker 3: But Barry Gway was such a listen to radio broadcast
- 19:59Speaker 3: again the father a talk radio, doing live talk radio
- 20:03Speaker 3: out of the most popular nightclub in America, the Corporate Cabanam.
- 20:10Speaker 3: And it was Walter Winshew who was despising him. Walter
- 20:14Speaker 3: Winshew who was the columnist at that time. Ed Sullivan
- 20:17Speaker 3: was a columnist and they would do battle with one another.
- 20:21Speaker 3: But the one guy Walter Winshew hated the most was
- 20:27Speaker 3: Barry Gray. And apparently when Walter Winshell died penniless, he
- 20:33Speaker 3: was out there on Hollywood Boulevard. He was mimeographing what
- 20:38Speaker 3: would have been his column for the day because nobody
- 20:42Speaker 3: wanted to syndicate him any longer, nobody wanted to print
- 20:46Speaker 3: it in the newspaper. He'd hand it on the corner.
- 20:48Speaker 3: Died penniless. But apparently when they cleaned out his office
- 20:53Speaker 3: after he passed away, I think only his daughter and
- 20:56Speaker 3: maybe two or three people attended his way, the most
- 20:58Speaker 3: powerful on Sunday nights walk to Winchhill. Uh you ever
- 21:04Speaker 3: see the replays of The Untouchables with Robert Stacked after
- 21:09Speaker 3: that's the voice? Well, it all so many anyway, So
- 21:12Speaker 3: they're cleaning out his office and apparently he had up
- 21:18Speaker 3: pinned to the wall a photo of a bloodied Barry
- 21:22Speaker 3: Gray who was beaten up by mobsters on his way
- 21:28Speaker 3: out of the Copacabana after hosting overnight radio, the most
- 21:33Speaker 3: listened to in the nation. And that just shows you
- 21:38Speaker 3: the intensity of this thing of ours. Now, why shouldn't we,
- 21:45Speaker 3: I know, Mark Simond does. Why shouldn't we all pay
- 21:49Speaker 3: tribute to these men and women who paved the way
- 21:53Speaker 3: and made it so that we could talk to all
- 21:55Speaker 3: of you all over the world like we're doing right
- 21:57Speaker 3: now on our new favorite station. And it should be
- 22:00Speaker 3: yours seven ten WOR, but it is your turn to
- 22:05Speaker 3: be heard up next the format created by Barry Gray
- 22:10Speaker 3: unexpectedly right here at seven ten WR our number is
- 22:16Speaker 3: one eight hundred three to two one zero seven ten.
- 22:20Speaker 3: That's one eight hundred three two one zero seven ten.
- 22:23Speaker 3: And then in a stream of consciousness, I had a
- 22:26Speaker 3: conversation with Tom Cuddy, our program director, who knows so
- 22:30Speaker 3: much and has dealt with so many people. And the
- 22:33Speaker 3: next home, we're going to talk about the hardest working
- 22:36Speaker 3: guy ever in radio and the hardest working guy ever
- 22:40Speaker 3: in TV. And they have a lot in common, and
- 22:46Speaker 3: they had a lot of impact on all of you
- 22:50Speaker 3: right here in the Tri State area. And yeah, one
- 22:54Speaker 3: of them worked right here at seven ten WOR.
- 22:58Speaker 1: The voice that fights for New York literally Curtis Leewad
- 23:03Speaker 1: guest hose for Mark Simone on sevent ten.
- 23:06Speaker 3: Woo Artificial Intelligence, AI busy, You're gone. If I remained
- 23:19Speaker 3: at talk radio show hosts, I'll be gone. There won't
- 23:23Speaker 3: be jobs for anybody, because let's leave it to the
- 23:27Speaker 3: masters of the universe. Elon Musk any other billionaires, trillionaires
- 23:31Speaker 3: who said, don't worry, we'll have universal high income, We'll
- 23:36Speaker 3: take care of all of you from the cradle to
- 23:38Speaker 3: the grave. You're on one hundred and fifty five thousand
- 23:40Speaker 3: dollars a year and you can play with your belly
- 23:44Speaker 3: button lint at home. Yeah, well, you're gonna trust any
- 23:47Speaker 3: of them before we go to the phones. I went
- 23:53Speaker 3: through Times Square earlier this week and they have what
- 23:56Speaker 3: they call their wishing wall. It's mostly for tour who
- 24:00Speaker 3: are dumb enough to show up and want to wait
- 24:03Speaker 3: for the ball to drop. Remember today, the rules are
- 24:07Speaker 3: three o'clock. That's when you got to get into your
- 24:09Speaker 3: cattle pens. All the depends have been cleaned off the
- 24:14Speaker 3: racks at CBS and Dwayne Reid because you met you
- 24:18Speaker 3: met a double bundle yourself. Imagine you got to be
- 24:21Speaker 3: there from three to twelve when the ball drops nine hours.
- 24:25Speaker 3: You've been drinking a little bit, right, you know you're
- 24:28Speaker 3: gonna have to go and you can't squeeze your legs forever.
- 24:33Speaker 3: But if you leave the cattle pen, you can't come back. Now,
- 24:38Speaker 3: why would anybody in their right mind who lives in
- 24:40Speaker 3: the Tri State area want to venture into that? Normally
- 24:44Speaker 3: they'd start loading up the cattle pens at six or
- 24:47Speaker 3: Jessica Tis, she wants everybody search twice. It's like taking
- 24:51Speaker 3: the list and then checking it twice. Ridiculous. But then again,
- 24:56Speaker 3: you gotta be ridiculous to be there. That's why you
- 24:59Speaker 3: notice it's But anyway, so they're putting up these pasties
- 25:03Speaker 3: on this wishing wall. I got about two hundred thousand.
- 25:06Speaker 3: They'll be shredded up, put with the confetti that drops
- 25:10Speaker 3: with the release of the ball to welcome in twenty
- 25:12Speaker 3: twenty six. And there's one paste it stood out to me.
- 25:18Speaker 3: It said, no more AI. Oh, we're gonna get into
- 25:22Speaker 3: that on Friday, and we're gonna talk about bitcoin, crime,
- 25:27Speaker 3: coin and driverless vehicles. A lot of you driving right now,
- 25:31Speaker 3: not gonna need you if you're doing this for a profession.
- 25:36Speaker 3: The masters of the universe don't want to have to
- 25:39Speaker 3: pay any of you. They're gonna they're gonna take care
- 25:41Speaker 3: of you from the cradle to the grave. Yeah, yeah, right,
- 25:46Speaker 3: don't trust them. Let's go if we can to Bill,
- 25:50Speaker 3: who's calling? Your turn to be heard here at seven
- 25:52Speaker 3: to ten wor.
- 25:53Speaker 6: Billy Good Morning. Curtis comment on Walter Winstel's radio shows,
- 26:02Speaker 6: he had there was a major plumbing league in the
- 26:05Speaker 6: White House between nineteen thirty three and nineteen forty five,
- 26:08Speaker 6: and that leak went right to Walter Winch's radio show.
- 26:12Speaker 6: The League was the president himself Fdr Right. Everyone had
- 26:16Speaker 6: been because of that League. He my god, he had.
- 26:21Speaker 6: Walter Winschell had more enemies after forty five Truman. Truman
- 26:25Speaker 6: hated Winschell, so after forty five his radio net just
- 26:30Speaker 6: collapsed on him.
- 26:30Speaker 3: Well, let me tell you one thing. When I was
- 26:32Speaker 3: over at WABC, no longer my place to be, we
- 26:36Speaker 3: had a crown jewel in broadcasting on Sunday Night who
- 26:40Speaker 3: just wanted to be like his mentor, Walter Winchell. His
- 26:43Speaker 3: name was Matt Trudge. The guy loved talk radio. I
- 26:47Speaker 3: know because when I met him in LA for the
- 26:49Speaker 3: first time, he was behind the seven and eleven serving
- 26:53Speaker 3: not chosen slurpies. He was not the mad Trudge that
- 26:56Speaker 3: he became. And he would go and listen to Kiev
- 27:02Speaker 3: George Putnam. I would be a guest there, organizing Guardian Angels,
- 27:05Speaker 3: and we got to know one another. And George Putman
- 27:07Speaker 3: was sort of like the Bob Grant of LA and
- 27:10Speaker 3: he would regale us with stories. He wanted to be
- 27:14Speaker 3: just like Walter Winchell. He had to hat the whole
- 27:16Speaker 3: nine yards. Lynn Samuel's another great hostess and talk creative
- 27:20Speaker 3: and never gets recognized, was his board operator. On Sunday nights.
- 27:25Speaker 3: They had ratings that nobody ever had. And you know
- 27:29Speaker 3: what happened. Bill, the program director at the time, Phil Boyce,
- 27:32Speaker 3: goes and the network wants to syndicate you. You're doing
- 27:36Speaker 3: so well Monday through Friday from six to nine. And
- 27:40Speaker 3: Matt Judge said, all they want to do is Sunday nights.
- 27:44Speaker 3: Just like my mentor, Walter Winchell, I don't want to
- 27:47Speaker 3: do radio five days a week. And then Phil just
- 27:51Speaker 3: kept pressing him, and you know, somed he picked up,
- 27:53Speaker 3: he left, he went down to Miami. The rest is history.
- 27:57Speaker 3: The person who got hired to fill that boy because
- 28:00Speaker 3: they were so hoping that Matt Drudge would get those
- 28:03Speaker 3: same ratings from Monday through Friday. Uh, take a guess
- 28:10Speaker 3: somebody who also his mentor when he was listening on
- 28:14Speaker 3: Hiatus to Bob Grant at WWB, Mark Levin, who grew
- 28:19Speaker 3: up outside of Philadelphia, and that's how his radio career started.
- 28:26Speaker 3: If only they had left Matt Drudge alone with Lynn
- 28:31Speaker 3: Samuels's board operator, both of them very eccentric, but it
- 28:37Speaker 3: was some of the greatest radio of all time. And
- 28:39Speaker 3: the ratings were through the roof. The other trick they
- 28:43Speaker 3: use over there at WABC, they had this thing they say,
- 28:48Speaker 3: look at the stream on my phone. Look at the stream,
- 28:51Speaker 3: Look how my ratings are going up. That's not ratings.
- 28:56Speaker 3: It's like the Wizard of Ours. It's like snake oil salesman.
- 29:00Speaker 3: And they all buy that. You want real ratings. Boy,
- 29:03Speaker 3: I never seen ratings like Matt Drudge got on Sunday nights,
- 29:07Speaker 3: imitating his mentor, Walter Winschew, who would do only one
- 29:11Speaker 3: radio show a week on Sunday nights on the ABC network.
- 29:17Speaker 3: Thousands of radios would be tuned to him. Thousands of
- 29:22Speaker 3: radio stations carried that the golden age of radio. Well,
- 29:29Speaker 3: let's go back to the phones in honor today of
- 29:31Speaker 3: the father of talk radio, Barry Gray, who really created
- 29:35Speaker 3: the format of taking calls. Let's go to Maria, who's
- 29:39Speaker 3: calling from Westchester. Your turn to be heard here at
- 29:41Speaker 3: seven to ten WR Hello.
- 29:44Speaker 5: Curtis, what an honor to talk to you. Can we
- 29:48Speaker 5: ask if Johan and Donnie will be taking his oath
- 29:51Speaker 5: of office with his hand on the Constitution. Well, one
- 29:56Speaker 5: of his swearing inns be based on the Constitution. Will
- 30:00Speaker 5: he respect this Constitution of the United States.
- 30:05Speaker 3: I wouldn't know because I haven't been invited. You know,
- 30:08Speaker 3: you show that, Mama, lou carrincattam to show up. If
- 30:11Speaker 3: you tell you a zornista's not taboomy, oh my god.
- 30:15Speaker 3: I will try to find that out for you. Whether
- 30:17Speaker 3: he's taking it on a Koran, a Bible, based on
- 30:21Speaker 3: our United States Constitution, the Bill of Rights. I will
- 30:26Speaker 3: certainly let you know by Friday, because, as I told
- 30:30Speaker 3: my wife Nancy, if I'm not invited, I'm going anyway, right,
- 30:33Speaker 3: you know me, what are they gonna do? Stop me?
- 30:36Speaker 3: I'll go there for that. What are that street party
- 30:38Speaker 3: they're gonna have? What are they gonna do? Say you
- 30:40Speaker 3: can't come here? Yeah, I'm the only real New Yorker
- 30:44Speaker 3: who was in this race. Hey, look, he won fair
- 30:48Speaker 3: and square. But he says it's a block party for
- 30:51Speaker 3: people in New York City. Right, it didn't just say
- 30:54Speaker 3: a block party for those people who voted for him.
- 30:57Speaker 3: Am I correct on that? To be continued. That's why
- 31:01Speaker 3: you better be listening on Friday morning when I returned
- 31:05Speaker 3: for my final program here in substitute for Mark Simon.
- 31:09Speaker 3: Let's go to Tony, who's calling from White Plains. Your
- 31:12Speaker 3: turn to be heard here at seven to ten war
- 31:14Speaker 3: the voice of New York Tone.
- 31:15Speaker 7: Yeah, Hi, Churs, Chris. Before you mentioned Salatto over there
- 31:20Speaker 7: on the other station, I thought of that before you did.
- 31:24Speaker 7: But you gave him the perfect name, Salato, because that's
- 31:28Speaker 7: exactly what he means.
- 31:29Speaker 3: Well, let me clarify for our listeners, Tony, I did
- 31:32Speaker 3: not give him that name. It was actually another caller
- 31:35Speaker 3: who say. The Salazzo at WABC is Dominic Carter, Oh,
- 31:40Speaker 3: and he is, and the moo Green Greg Kelly, and
- 31:45Speaker 3: the Tessio who may have been the worst is Sid Rosenberg.
- 31:52Speaker 3: And you know on Friday what I do every year,
- 31:56Speaker 3: I always do a tribute to Bernard McGirk, who was
- 32:01Speaker 3: I mean, not only the hardest working guy in radio,
- 32:03Speaker 3: but took so much grief from don Nimus said. I
- 32:07Speaker 3: witnessed personally what a great radio guy he was. Died
- 32:12Speaker 3: way too early. If you're getting together with family and friends,
- 32:15Speaker 3: tell all the males get the PSA tests, the prick
- 32:18Speaker 3: of the finger, a simple blood test. If Bernard McGirk
- 32:22Speaker 3: had done that, he'd be alive today, and all the
- 32:26Speaker 3: nonsense that occurred against me a WABC, always bashing Curtains,
- 32:30Speaker 3: always blaming Curtis, would never have occurred if Bernard McGirk
- 32:36Speaker 3: were alive and well. But we'll do that tribute on Friday.
- 32:40Speaker 3: This boy, he was an iconic figure in this thing
- 32:43Speaker 3: of ours radio.
- 32:46Speaker 1: Than now more with New York's iconic straight shooter Curtis
- 32:51Speaker 1: Leewah guest hosting from Mark Simone on seven ten Woo.
- 32:58Speaker 3: You know, on a Miss Friday show My Superior and
- 33:00Speaker 3: see if a Mark Simon will go heavy into artificial intelligence.
- 33:05Speaker 3: I'm not a supporter at all. Neither should most of you,
- 33:11Speaker 3: except if you're in the medical field like we just
- 33:15Speaker 3: brought up Bernard McGirk. Will do my annual tribute to
- 33:18Speaker 3: him on Friday. But probably had AI been available to
- 33:28Speaker 3: find localized cancers from medical imagery, it does a better
- 33:32Speaker 3: job than humans do, he might still be alive. I'll
- 33:38Speaker 3: give AI high five on that. Well, that's it, because
- 33:44Speaker 3: the list of things that is ruining is long. I
- 33:48Speaker 3: want to listen on Friday. But up next, my stream
- 33:53Speaker 3: of consciousness based on a conversation I had with program
- 33:56Speaker 3: director Tom Cuddy, who I've known for years over at
- 33:58Speaker 3: the old WPLJ. The two hardest working guys in radio
- 34:06Speaker 3: and in television cross paths first in Los Angeles, but
- 34:14Speaker 3: their roots and most of what they did in their
- 34:19Speaker 3: lives were before all of you in our ChRI State
- 34:22Speaker 3: area and sometimes right here on sevent ten wor
