Speaker 6: News meteorologist Brian Hughes says the chance of scattered showers
• 1:26
Speaker 6: and thunderstorms continue off and on throughout the day. Heavy
• 1:28
Speaker 6: rain is possible when these storms hit. Not like an
• 1:31
Speaker 6: all-day rain, but when they hit, they really pack a punch.
• 1:35
Speaker 6: Temps are going to be in the mid-80s. Showers and
• 1:37
Speaker 6: thunderstorms tonight low in the mid-60s. We keep up the
• 1:39
Speaker 6: chance of showers and thunderstorms pretty much every day this
• 1:42
Speaker 6: week up until at least Friday. Mid-70s for high tomorrow,
• 1:45
Speaker 6: low 70s Wednesday, around 70 on Thursday, and Friday may
• 1:49
Speaker 6: sort of kind of feel like fall a little bit.

Speaker 6: Putnam County, plus more on our new programming schedule on

Speaker 6: and texts are always welcome. Guaranteed Bank Hotline 304-345-5858. Tony Vitale,
• 2:24
Speaker 6: text 304-935-5008. I want to welcome to the show now
• 2:28
Speaker 6: Dylan Hackworth and his fiancée Tamara to talk about some
• 2:33
Speaker 6: stuff going on with the Glasgow Volunteer Fire Department, their
• 2:36
Speaker 6: upcoming program. Breakfast with Santa. And I say upcoming. It's
• 2:40
  Speaker 6: still technically summer.
• 2:42
  Speaker 8: It is.
• 2:42
Speaker 6: You know that. We've got to plan early. All right.
• 2:45
Speaker 6: But there's a reason why that you're here now. Good morning, folks,
• 2:47
Speaker 6: and welcome to the show.
• 2:48
Speaker 9: Thank you for having us.
• 2:49
Speaker 10: So for the past three years, we've been doing the
• 2:52
Speaker 10: Breakfast with Santa. It's something we've revamped with the Glasgow
• 2:55
Speaker 10: Volunteer Fire Department, and it's something that's really become a
• 2:57
Speaker 10: staple in our community. And it's actually growing outside of
• 3:01
Speaker 10: our community. It's not just the Glasgow people anymore. It's
• 3:04
Speaker 10: more of just an upper Kanawha Valley thing. And we
• 3:07
Speaker 10: saw the need to start doing fundraising a little sooner
• 3:11
Speaker 10: than later because there was something that happened in one
• 3:15
  Speaker 10: of the years.
• 3:16
Speaker 9: I don't want to go into too much detail about.
• 3:18
Speaker 10: It, but let's just say that it's a poor community
• 3:22
Speaker 10: and there was a family member came up to us
• 3:26
Speaker 10: after the event and thanked us for hosting it and
• 3:30
Speaker 10: pretty much explained that this would be the only time
• 3:32
Speaker 10: that her child would get to see Santa and possibly
• 3:35
Speaker 10: get a gift. And we want to make sure that
• 3:38
Speaker 10: everybody leaves out of there with something. Because the first
• 3:41
Speaker 10: year we had, I think, 60 people. And then last
• 3:44
Speaker 10: year we had what?
• 3:46
Speaker 2: I don't even know exactly how many we had. We
• 3:49
Speaker 2: had a whole lot more last year.
• 3:50
Speaker 9: I think it was over 100. Yeah.
• 3:52
Speaker 10: And we're doing this all out of our own time.
• 3:57
  Speaker 10: It's a 12-hour day. We wake up about 4.45 in
• 4:00
Speaker 10: the morning and start it. And it's an assembly line
• 4:03
  Speaker 10: of food.
• 4:04
  Speaker 9: And we really.
• 4:05
Speaker 10: It's really cool to see all the kids, their faces
• 4:07
Speaker 10: light up when they get to see Santa.
• 4:08
  Speaker 9: And it's just, it's fun.
• 4:10
Speaker 6: And what was the date again?
• 4:11
Speaker 9: We do not have a date yet.
• 4:12
  Speaker 6: All right, then.
• 4:13
Speaker 9: So it's either going to be.
• 4:14
Speaker 6: Just drive around until you find something.
• 4:15
  Speaker 9: Pretty much, yes.
• 4:16
Speaker 2: Years past, it's been.
• 4:18
  Speaker 9: December 6th.
• 4:19
Speaker 2: The first weekend of December.
• 4:21
  Speaker 9: So.
• 4:22
Speaker 6: We'll let you know.
• 4:23
  Speaker 4: Yeah.
• 4:23
Speaker 6: But the reason we had you on the show today
• 4:25
Speaker 6: is not necessarily for planning purposes as much as it
• 4:28
Speaker 6: is to. Know that if it takes a lot to
• 4:31
Speaker 6: pull this off and you need you're asking for sponsors,
• 4:34
Speaker 6: you're asking for volunteers.
• 4:36
  Speaker 3: Yes.
• 4:36
Speaker 10: So basically anything that can help, you know, there's obviously
• 4:40
Speaker 10: we have the firemen and the firemen's families and that help.
• 4:44
Speaker 10: And we have a few older ladies that come in.
• 4:46
Speaker 9: They've been there every year to help us. They love it.
• 4:49
Speaker 10: But right now we're looking for fundraising, you know, we're,
• 4:52
Speaker 10: we're asking for donations, you know, all that stuff goes
• 4:55
Speaker 10: right back into the community. We're one thing we do
• 4:57
Speaker 10: really well about fundraising is we're extremely transparent. We raised
• 5:01
Speaker 10: money for the recent flooding and this was through the
• 5:04
Speaker 10: fire department and immediately posted the receipts of everything we bought.
• 5:07
Speaker 10: You know, we, that's really important in the public eyes.
• 5:10
Speaker 10: Where's that funding going? And we've already had a few
• 5:13
Speaker 10: people agree to fundraising. Tony, the Taylor, I'm actually going
• 5:17
Speaker 10: to go see him.
• 5:18
  Speaker 9: In a minute.
• 5:18
Speaker 6: Sorry about your luck.
• 5:20
Speaker 10: Appalachian Outlaw Trails, they have agreed. And Teresa Howe, they've
• 5:24
Speaker 10: all been real big supporters of this. And it really
• 5:29
Speaker 10: is a big thing for the kids.
• 5:31
Speaker 6: And how many years has this been going on?
• 5:32
Speaker 10: Well, we used to do it back in the 90s.
• 5:35
Speaker 10: And it went on for about, I'd say, 25 years.
• 5:38
Speaker 10: And then it just, as anything, it kind of trickles off.
• 5:41
Speaker 10: And I would say it started in the 80s. And
• 5:43
Speaker 10: we decided, hey, we want to do this again. So
• 5:47
Speaker 10: we started it about three years ago, and the first
• 5:49
Speaker 10: year we did it at the fire department, and it
• 5:51
Speaker 10: was a hit. And then we're like, okay, the fire
• 5:54
Speaker 10: department isn't big enough for this. So then we did
• 5:56
Speaker 10: the Glasgow, and we extended the times because people, they
• 5:59
Speaker 10: come in waves. So we now cook at the fire
• 6:03
Speaker 10: department to be able to feed the people at the
• 6:05
Speaker 10: Glasgow Senior Center, which is located on the corner of
• 6:09
Speaker 10: Fifth Avenue and First Street in Glasgow. So it's, you
• 6:13
Speaker 10: got runners, you have cookers, you have feeders. You have cleaners.
• 6:17
Speaker 10: It's a lot of it goes into it and it's
• 6:20
  Speaker 10: just fun.
• 6:21
Speaker 6: What kind of food are we talking about here?
• 6:23
  Speaker 9: Pancakes. Okay.
• 6:25
Speaker 2: Pancakes and sausage. And we usually have milk, orange juice,
• 6:30
  Speaker 2: all that.
• 6:30
  Speaker 1: Yep.
• 6:31
Speaker 10: Everything is pretty much local. We, United Dairy always helps
• 6:35
Speaker 10: us out. We get stuff from them. Our assistant chief
• 6:38
Speaker 10: has a phenomenal pancake recipe.
• 6:41
Speaker 2: It's, He does always have to make me chocolate chiplets.
• 6:45
Speaker 10: Yes, Tamara will go out the night before and get
• 6:47
Speaker 10: chocolate chips just for these pancakes, even though she's not
• 6:49
  Speaker 10: a child.
• 6:52
  Speaker 9: At heart.
• 6:52
Speaker 6: She's engaged to one.
• 6:54
  Speaker 9: That's true.
• 6:54
Speaker 6: I'll go ahead and throw that in there for you. But,
• 6:58
Speaker 6: I mean, this thing is, like I said, fantastic. This
• 7:01
Speaker 6: is not us trying to force the season or anything
• 7:03
Speaker 6: like that. It takes a lot of planning to pull
• 7:05
Speaker 6: these things off, and it takes money. I mean, it
• 7:07
Speaker 6: takes money, and it takes donations. So sometimes it's not
• 7:10
Speaker 6: just donations of money. It could be donations of toys.
• 7:14
Speaker 6: It could be donations of time because, again, you need volunteers.
• 7:18
Speaker 10: Coloring books for kids to color on while we're there.
• 7:21
Speaker 10: And see, that's one thing that's hard with the fire
• 7:23
Speaker 10: service is obviously every fire department in the state gets
• 7:26
Speaker 10: state funding. But it is very, it's watched what you
• 7:31
Speaker 10: do with that money. And a lot of times you
• 7:33
Speaker 10: can't take that money and turn around to give it
• 7:37
Speaker 10: to the public in a Breakfast with Santa setting. So
• 7:40
Speaker 10: all of it is mainly just fundraising through us, donations.
• 7:44
Speaker 10: Ergon up in London, West Virginia, it's Houston, they donated
• 7:49
Speaker 10: a pretty good chunk of change for us. And it's
• 7:52
Speaker 10: hitting those local communities. But then we're like, okay, well,
• 7:55
Speaker 10: we have people coming from all over the eastern Kanawha County,
• 7:59
Speaker 10: let's expand. You know, there might be somebody that comes
• 8:02
  Speaker 10: from Putnam County.
• 8:03
  Speaker 9: Who knows?
• 8:04
Speaker 10: It's just there's not that many events anymore for children
• 8:07
Speaker 10: with the breakfast of Santa around here.
• 8:09
Speaker 6: Yeah, and that's what we want to make sure that even,
• 8:11
Speaker 6: you know, Glasgow is a very small community, but this
• 8:13
Speaker 6: is not just the kids of Glasgow you're taking care of.
• 8:16
Speaker 6: This is, as you said, from the surrounding communities all
• 8:18
Speaker 6: over Kanawha County, maybe other counties as well.
• 8:20
Speaker 10: Yeah, and, you know, we encourage anybody to come. What
• 8:24
Speaker 10: we do is we do have tickets available. tickets are
• 8:27
Speaker 10: obviously free, but it gives us an idea of material.
• 8:31
  Speaker 1: Sure.
• 8:31
Speaker 9: How many tickets we give out, how many materials.
• 8:34
Speaker 6: That's the way that we do with our trick or beat,
• 8:36
Speaker 6: you know, thing, because it's coming up here in a
• 8:38
Speaker 6: couple of weeks over at the ballpark with 107.3 The Beat.
• 8:41
Speaker 6: And people say, well, why do you have tickets if
• 8:43
  Speaker 6: it's a free event? Because it's a head count kind
• 8:45
Speaker 6: of thing. And every year we can only have so
• 8:47
Speaker 6: many people in there. We do two sessions and it
• 8:49
Speaker 6: quote unquote sells out. We're out of tickets.
• 8:52
  Speaker 1: Right.
• 8:52
Speaker 10: And one thing we do is we always have extra tickets.
• 8:55
Speaker 10: We always have whoever's man in the door always has
• 8:57
Speaker 10: 50 extra tickets in their pocket just in case the
• 9:00
Speaker 10: family is like, we just heard about this today.
• 9:02
Speaker 6: Yeah, we're not going to turn anybody away.
• 9:03
Speaker 10: No, absolutely not. Because, you know, Eastern Canal County, like
• 9:08
Speaker 10: I said before, everybody struggles. And Christmas time, it gets tight.
• 9:13
Speaker 10: So if we can help that one family who can't afford.
• 9:17
Speaker 2: Take their kid to see Santa and we can.
• 9:20
  Speaker 6: Yeah.
• 9:20
  Speaker 2: Have Santa.
• 9:21
Speaker 10: We have a photographer set up with Santa with a
• 9:24
  Speaker 10: nice backdrop.
• 9:25
  Speaker 9: So it helps.
• 9:26
Speaker 6: As soon as you get the date, we'll have you back.
• 9:28
  Speaker 9: 100 percent.
• 9:29
Speaker 10: And follow the Facebook, the Glasgow Volunteer Fire Department Facebook.
• 9:34
Speaker 10: We're really big on posting on there. Follow the Hackworth
• 9:36
Speaker 10: Fire Collection. You know, we post everything because that is
• 9:39
Speaker 10: our home fire department. And even as us as Hackworth
• 9:42
Speaker 10: Fire Department, we're using Hackworth Fire Collection. We're using our
• 9:45
Speaker 10: platform to try to boost this. We're doing a raffle
• 9:49
Speaker 10: selling tickets for just, you get a pair of wildland gloves,
• 9:53
Speaker 10: a koozie, coaster set, a tumbler, stickers of all, every
• 9:58
Speaker 10: sticker we've ever made for Hackworth.
• 10:00
  Speaker 9: Fire Collection.
• 10:00
Speaker 10: And we've sold, what, almost $ 100 worth of tickets now,
• 10:04
  Speaker 10: which that's phenomenal.
• 10:06
Speaker 9: And somebody will win that.
• 10:07
Speaker 10: And everybody who's bought tickets for that has been like,
• 10:11
Speaker 10: you can give the stuff to somebody else.
• 10:13
Speaker 9: We just want to help the kids. And that's what
• 10:15
  Speaker 9: it's all about.
• 10:15
Speaker 6: That's what we do here. All right, so tell us, again,
• 10:19
Speaker 6: if people are listening right now and they say this
• 10:21
Speaker 6: sounds like a really cool thing, I want to get
• 10:24
Speaker 6: a check out to you, I want to donate something,
• 10:25
Speaker 6: how do they get in touch with you?
• 10:26
Speaker 10: Best way to get in touch with us is through
• 10:28
Speaker 10: our Facebook at Glasgow Volunteer Fire Department. Make sure you're
• 10:32
Speaker 10: messaging the West Virginia one, not the Virginia or Kentucky
• 10:35
  Speaker 10: Fire Department.
• 10:36
Speaker 6: Or the Scotland one.
• 10:37
Speaker 9: Yeah, it does happen.
• 10:38
  Speaker 11: It does.
• 10:39
Speaker 9: It happens a lot.
• 10:41
Speaker 10: We are at our fire department on Mondays at 6 p.m.,
• 10:44
Speaker 10: so we'll be there this evening for drill. You can
• 10:47
Speaker 10: try to call the fire department. Obviously, we're volunteers, so
• 10:49
Speaker 10: we're not manned all the time. But the main thing
• 10:52
Speaker 10: is to get us on Facebook or even message you,
• 10:55
Speaker 10: and you can get a hold of me.
• 10:55
Speaker 6: Yeah, absolutely. All right, Dylan Hackworth, I've got to ask
• 10:59
Speaker 6: you quickly, how's the Hackworth Fire Collection thing going?
• 11:02
  Speaker 9: Phenomenal.
• 11:04
Speaker 6: Give me, we're going to get about 45 seconds here,
• 11:07
Speaker 6: give me the synopsis of what it is for people
• 11:09
Speaker 6: that may be listening to you.
• 11:10
Speaker 10: So Hackworth Fire Collection is the first state entity to
• 11:13
Speaker 10: preserve West Virginia fire and EMS history. And we just
• 11:17
Speaker 10: uncovered a lot of history on something that was under
• 11:20
Speaker 10: our nose. And go to our page and find that out.
• 11:24
  Speaker 9: All right.
• 11:24
Speaker 6: You're a little teaser right there.
• 11:25
  Speaker 3: That is.
• 11:25
  Speaker 7: All right.
• 11:26
Speaker 6: And you are actually going to be making a return
• 11:28
Speaker 6: appearance on Midday Today about something totally different.
• 11:31
  Speaker 9: Completely different.
• 11:32
Speaker 6: You need a booking agent, man.
• 11:33
Speaker 10: Well, I'm going to go over here and get a
• 11:35
Speaker 10: suit tailored by Tony the Tailor and get a check.
• 11:37
  Speaker 9: For the kids.
• 11:38
Speaker 6: Get your old man off of his backside and tell
• 11:40
Speaker 6: him he needs to go to work for you.
• 11:40
  Speaker 9: I didn't even work today.
• 11:41
Speaker 6: Of course you didn't.
• 11:43
  Speaker 8: No.
• 11:43
  Speaker 3: I'm kidding.
• 11:43
  Speaker 5: Bum.
• 11:44
Speaker 6: I'm kidding. We're friends, me and his dad, believe it
• 11:46

  Speaker 1: Good morning.
• 15:14
Speaker 6: Welcome to the show.
• 15:15
Speaker 5: Good morning, Dave. Thanks for having me.
• 15:18
Speaker 6: Get a life. I have been told that many times before,
• 15:21
Speaker 6: many times by you I have been told to get
• 15:23
Speaker 6: a life. Tell us about this Get a Life program.
• 15:27
  Speaker 5: I don't think I've told you to get a life.
• 15:29
Speaker 6: I think you have, but go ahead.
• 15:31
  Speaker 7: That's okay.
• 15:33
Speaker 5: It was in your best interest. We are partnering again
• 15:37
Speaker 5: with the West Virginia Treasurer's Office as well as Putnam
• 15:41
Speaker 5: County Schools to bring the Get a Life program to
• 15:44
Speaker 5: all eighth grade students here in Putnam County. And we're
• 15:47
Speaker 5: really excited about this. This is a budgeting simulator. So
• 15:50
Speaker 5: all of our eighth grade students are going to be
• 15:52
Speaker 5: joining us this week. They're going to be going through
• 15:55
Speaker 5: a simulated program. budgeting workshop where they'll be given a
• 16:01
Speaker 5: career with a salary and they're going to need to
• 16:04
Speaker 5: buy a house, a car, get utilities, gas for that car,
• 16:08
Speaker 5: groceries for their family, and all capture that on a
• 16:12
Speaker 5: budget sheet. and learn really what it's like to be
• 16:17
Speaker 5: an adult. So we're excited about that. Our chamber member
• 16:20
Speaker 5: volunteers are going to be with us for the two days,
• 16:22
Speaker 5: helping and leading the students through the simulator. And yeah,
• 16:27
  Speaker 5: that's that.
• 16:28
Speaker 6: It's really a cool program, and I've had an opportunity
• 16:30
Speaker 6: to help you out with this in the past as
• 16:32
Speaker 6: a volunteer. And so basically, and let me just kind
• 16:35
Speaker 6: of break it down, though, unless it's changed since when
• 16:37
Speaker 6: I did it, basically the way it happens is Every
• 16:39
Speaker 6: student that comes to this thing, they get a life,
• 16:42
Speaker 6: so to speak. And they're told this is how much
• 16:45
Speaker 6: money you make. And some are going to be making
• 16:48
  Speaker 6: six figures. Some may only be making $ 25, 000, $ 30, 000 a
• 16:50
Speaker 6: year or whatever the case is. And they tell them,
• 16:54
Speaker 6: they say, okay, you have a wife and three kids.
• 16:59
Speaker 6: You are a single mom. You don't have kids. You're
• 17:02
Speaker 6: single or you're married without kids or whatever. And they
• 17:06
Speaker 6: have to go buy these things. They have to go
• 17:08
Speaker 6: buy in the simulator. They have to go buy insurance.
• 17:10
Speaker 6: They have to go buy a car. They have to
• 17:12
Speaker 6: get a house. And it's so interesting to me watching
• 17:16
Speaker 6: the differences when I've done this in the past, Ashley.
• 17:19
Speaker 6: with the way that the boys approach it and the
• 17:22
Speaker 6: way that, and there's some exceptions, but the way that
• 17:24
Speaker 6: the boys approach it and the way the girls approach it, okay?
• 17:27
Speaker 6: Because a lot of the, at least in the past,
• 17:29
Speaker 6: and I know there's some exceptions, those guys are like, yeah,
• 17:33
Speaker 6: I want the Maserati. You know, I want the Benz.
• 17:35
Speaker 6: They're making $ 20, 000 a year in their life, but they say,
• 17:36
  Speaker 6: I want the $ 2, 000 car payment.
• 17:41
Speaker 5: Yeah, yeah. You know, it is a real life lesson
• 17:45
Speaker 5: for the kids. They're really excited and, you know, they're handed,
• 17:50
Speaker 5: you know, right up to a car dealership and get
• 17:52
Speaker 5: whatever they want. So, of course, they always, you know,
• 17:55
Speaker 5: try to use that opportunity to purchase that dream car.
• 17:58
Speaker 5: And so they can do so. And, you know, it
• 18:03
Speaker 5: is a lot of fun to go through this with
• 18:07
Speaker 5: the students to see, you know, Some of them are
• 18:10
Speaker 5: very budget conscious and some of them spend every dollar
• 18:13
Speaker 5: that they have. And, you know, they the good thing
• 18:15
Speaker 5: about it, too, is they get to go through the
• 18:19
Speaker 5: process twice. So they go through the first time and
• 18:23
Speaker 5: a lot of times they end up. maybe a little,
• 18:26
Speaker 5: you know, broke or possibly in debt, and then they
• 18:30
Speaker 5: get a second chance. So hopefully, you know, our goal
• 18:34
Speaker 5: in partnership with the West Virginia State Treasurer's Office as
• 18:38
Speaker 5: well as Putnam County Schools is to kind of open
• 18:40
Speaker 5: their eyes a little earlier in life about, you know,
• 18:42
Speaker 5: the importance of budgeting and making sure that you're covering,
• 18:46
Speaker 5: you know, your necessary bills before buying things that you
• 18:50
Speaker 5: may not need. So you might not need that Maserati.
• 18:53
Speaker 6: Here, you know. One of the best moments I remember
• 18:57
Speaker 6: was when a kid looked at me one time. I
• 19:00
Speaker 6: was volunteering, and the kid looked up to me, and
• 19:02
Speaker 6: I guess he'd gone bankrupt in like the first 10
• 19:04
Speaker 6: or 15 minutes. He goes, man, no wonder my mom
• 19:06
Speaker 6: and dad are always in a bad mood.
• 19:09
Speaker 5: That's true. Yeah, yeah. The comments that they make throughout
• 19:13
Speaker 5: the process are always, always entertaining. But we know that,
• 19:17
Speaker 5: you know, this is an important thing for them to do,
• 19:20
Speaker 5: an important process for them to understand. And so to
• 19:23
Speaker 5: be able to partner with Putnam County Schools, our chamber
• 19:25
Speaker 5: members in the treasurer's office to be able to bring
• 19:27
Speaker 5: this program to all of our eighth grade students here
• 19:31
Speaker 5: in Putnam County Schools. So over 800 students, we're going
• 19:34
Speaker 5: to put through the program over the next two days.
• 19:38
Speaker 5: is something that we are really, really proud of and
• 19:40
Speaker 5: also very grateful to our chamber members who volunteer for
• 19:44
Speaker 5: this program because it does take a lot of volunteers
• 19:47
Speaker 5: to be able to run the simulator. as efficiently as
• 19:51
  Speaker 5: we do.
• 19:51
Speaker 6: Now, where are you on volunteers right now? I know
• 19:53
Speaker 6: you could always, at least in years past, you can
• 19:55
  Speaker 6: always use more.
• 19:57
Speaker 5: We can. Yeah, we can always use more. We like
• 20:00
Speaker 5: to have a full room of volunteers there. So if
• 20:02
Speaker 5: anybody is interested, no experience required. We'll teach you what
• 20:06
Speaker 5: to do. We'll show you what to do. Just give
• 20:09
Speaker 5: us a call here at the chamber office and let
• 20:10
Speaker 5: us know that you'd like to come and participate.
• 20:13
Speaker 6: Where and when again? Just want to make sure I
• 20:15
Speaker 6: get that out there.
• 20:17
Speaker 5: We're going to be, it's Tuesday and Wednesday of this week,
• 20:19
Speaker 5: so tomorrow and Wednesday, and we're going to be at
• 20:21
Speaker 5: the Armory in Eleanor.
• 20:22
Speaker 6: Yeah, and it's always a good time, like I said, because,
• 20:25
Speaker 6: I mean, we have a lot of fun with it,
• 20:27
Speaker 6: and the kids do too, and the volunteers, but it
• 20:29
Speaker 6: is educational for them as well, and your only hope
• 20:33
Speaker 6: is that those eighth graders are picking up on something
• 20:35
Speaker 6: there that they can take home, because when you think
• 20:38
Speaker 6: about it, when you're in eighth grade, you know, that's
• 20:40
Speaker 6: when you Hopefully, you started saving a little bit of money,
• 20:42
Speaker 6: saving for that first car or helping out with college
• 20:45
Speaker 6: or whatever it is that you're doing. I mean, your
• 20:47
Speaker 6: parents should be teaching them that anyway. So there's a
• 20:50
Speaker 6: lot to learn, and it's really a great program. It
• 20:54
  Speaker 6: really is.
• 20:57
  Speaker 13: It is.
• 20:57
  Speaker 5: It is.
• 20:58
  Speaker 15: Yeah.
• 20:58
Speaker 5: And it is housed out of the treasurer's office. So
• 21:00
Speaker 5: if you're not in Putnam County or your student is
• 21:03
Speaker 5: not in Putnam County and you'd like to bring this
• 21:05
Speaker 5: program to your area for those that are not here
• 21:09
Speaker 5: in the valley, you can. You can do that. They
• 21:12
Speaker 5: travel all around the state to put Share this program
• 21:15
Speaker 5: within the school system and you can do it the
• 21:18
Speaker 5: way we do it, where we go with every we
• 21:21
Speaker 5: bring the students to us or they will also take
• 21:24
Speaker 5: the program out to the school specifically. So if you
• 21:27
Speaker 5: are not a Putnam County person and you or you
• 21:30
Speaker 5: just can't participate or you have students in other counties
• 21:33
Speaker 5: and you don't know if this program is available to them,
• 21:35
Speaker 5: it is. You just have to contact us. treasurer's office
• 21:38
  Speaker 5: to do so.
• 21:39
Speaker 6: And one of the things too that was done in
• 21:41
Speaker 6: the past, I'm presuming you're still doing that, is that
• 21:44
Speaker 6: you have somebody that will go along because in life,
• 21:47
Speaker 6: as you well know, things happen that you aren't planning
• 21:50
Speaker 6: for and you could be on a perfect trajectory to
• 21:52
Speaker 6: do everything right and then all of a sudden you
• 21:55
Speaker 6: have a house fire. All of a sudden you have
• 21:57
Speaker 6: a job loss or something like that. I guess you're
• 22:04
Speaker 6: still doing that where certain people, you know, you just
• 22:06
Speaker 6: kind of pick them at random and go, okay, your
• 22:08
Speaker 6: life is going good, but guess what? This has happened
• 22:11
  Speaker 6: to you.
• 22:12
  Speaker 1: Yeah.
• 22:13
  Speaker 14: Yeah.
• 22:13
Speaker 5: So there is, there is a character that, that walks
• 22:16
Speaker 5: around and they, um, they walk around with, uh, cards
• 22:21
Speaker 5: and on those, you know, if you get handed a card, it,
• 22:23
Speaker 5: it can be anything from a you know, a broken
• 22:27
Speaker 5: leg to a cat that needs to go to the
• 22:30
Speaker 5: vet on unnecessary or, you know, unexpectedly. Um, so it's,
• 22:34
Speaker 5: you know, those things that you don't, you know, you
• 22:36
Speaker 5: don't always quite budget for it that pop up that,
• 22:39
Speaker 5: that do end up costing you some money. So just,
• 22:42
Speaker 5: you know, even if you think, Hey, I'm doing pretty
• 22:44
Speaker 5: good life happens. And so we try to show them that,
• 22:49
Speaker 5: you know, not only do you need to be prepared
• 22:51
Speaker 5: for your day-to-day expenses, but to be, um, to also
• 22:56
Speaker 5: be prepared if things do pop up. So our kids
• 22:59
Speaker 5: have a great time. Our students, they have a wonderful
• 23:01
Speaker 5: time with this program. It's always fun to hear, you know, uh,
• 23:04
Speaker 5: their feedback from it. And, um, We're, like I said,
• 23:09
Speaker 5: we can always use more volunteers. So if you think
• 23:12
Speaker 5: this sounds like a good time, we promise that it is.
• 23:15
Speaker 5: And you can come on down and spend a couple,
• 23:17
Speaker 5: spend the day with us either Tuesday or Wednesday. You
• 23:20
Speaker 5: don't have to volunteer for both. You can just volunteer
• 23:22
Speaker 5: one day if you're available or if you have a
• 23:25
Speaker 5: great time. Sometimes we have volunteers that come on Tuesday
• 23:28
Speaker 5: and then they think, wow, that was such a great time.
• 23:30
Speaker 5: I'd like to come back tomorrow. So, yeah, you can
• 23:33
Speaker 5: volunteer one day, two days, whatever. So whatever is good
• 23:37
Speaker 5: for you, we love to get our business community involved
• 23:41
Speaker 5: in this program. And so we're really excited and we're
• 23:46
Speaker 5: looking forward to the week.
• 23:47
Speaker 6: Had a text that said some adults would benefit from
• 23:49
Speaker 6: the Get a Life training too.
• 23:51
Speaker 5: Yeah, yeah. We hear that a lot that, you know,
• 23:56
Speaker 5: we do this in eighth grade to try to prepare them,
• 23:58
Speaker 5: you know, super early. You know, a lot of times
• 24:01
Speaker 5: in high school, that's when you'll find our students will
• 24:03
Speaker 5: start getting their first jobs. And so we can kind
• 24:06
Speaker 5: of get in there with them before then. But it
• 24:09
Speaker 5: has also been asked that we look at maybe a program,
• 24:12
Speaker 5: you know, right before they graduate high school to reiterate,
• 24:16
Speaker 5: you know, some of the things that they might have
• 24:17
Speaker 5: learned and forgotten about. Yeah. So that's always in the works.
• 24:22
Speaker 5: That's always on our to-do list is something that we
• 24:25
Speaker 5: can bring not only to, you know, like I said,
• 24:28
Speaker 5: all the A3 students, but maybe something a little bit later,
• 24:31
Speaker 5: you know, when they're juniors or seniors and getting ready
• 24:33
Speaker 5: to go off to college and really, you know, getting
• 24:35
Speaker 5: to the point where they're going to have to budget
• 24:37
Speaker 5: on their own. So, yeah, we definitely think it's something
• 24:41
Speaker 5: that everybody should think about and, you If we can
• 24:46
Speaker 5: help in any way, we try.
• 24:47
Speaker 6: It's Tuesday and Wednesday at the Armory there in Eleanor.
• 24:50
Speaker 6: And again, this is a partnership with Putnam County Schools,
• 24:53
Speaker 6: the Putnam County Chamber. And of course, this all comes
• 24:55
Speaker 6: out of the treasurer's office. Hats off to several different
• 24:59
Speaker 6: treasurers have done this, that have held that office over
• 25:02
Speaker 6: the years, been going on for some time. Before we
• 25:04
Speaker 6: let you go, I do want to ask you just
• 25:05
Speaker 6: for an overall, how are things going in Putnam County
• 25:07
Speaker 6: right now? Because if traffic is any indication, things are
• 25:11
Speaker 6: going pretty well in Putnam County right now. A lot
• 25:15
Speaker 6: of businesses open, people moving in. Talk about that a
• 25:17
  Speaker 6: little bit.
• 25:18
  Speaker 5: Yeah, we do.
• 25:19
  Speaker 1: Yeah.
• 25:19
Speaker 5: We've, uh, we've got some, um, you know, yes, yes,
• 25:22
Speaker 5: the traffic and yes, but everybody just, you know, we
• 25:25
Speaker 5: know that it can get congested certain times of day.
• 25:28
Speaker 5: So if you don't like to sit in it, maybe
• 25:31
Speaker 5: try an alternate schedule of traveling. Um, but it's not
• 25:34
Speaker 5: that bad. No, it's, it's really not. And, um, We
• 25:38
Speaker 5: know that, you know, we've got a lot of things
• 25:41
Speaker 5: coming up. We've got some new businesses coming into the area.
• 25:46
Speaker 5: There was a press release last week about a new
• 25:48
Speaker 5: housing development over in Winfield happening, and so we are
• 25:55
Speaker 5: doing really good, and we're just Grateful that so many
• 25:59
Speaker 5: people want to be here in Putnam County and live
• 26:02
Speaker 5: here and raise their family and, you know, start their businesses.
• 26:06
Speaker 5: I've had a couple of meetings recently with some potential
• 26:09
Speaker 5: new restaurants coming to the area. So I know people
• 26:12
Speaker 5: will be happy about that. And, you know, we're moving on,
• 26:17
  Speaker 5: moving on.
• 26:18
Speaker 6: Ashley Offord-Glantz, Executive Director, Putnam County Chamber of Commerce. Again,
• 26:22
Speaker 6: the Get Alive program in Kentucky. working with the Treasurer's
• 26:26
Speaker 6: Office and also with Putnam County Schools and the Chamber
• 26:29
Speaker 6: of Courts. It's happening Tuesday and Wednesday in Eleanor at
• 26:32
Speaker 6: the Armory. Contact the Chamber Office if you need more
• 26:34
Speaker 6: information about that. Appreciate you. Sorry I can't be there,
• 26:37
Speaker 6: but they make me work, you know, all day now.
• 26:39
Speaker 6: So I'm sorry. I'm there in spirit, okay?
• 26:43
Speaker 5: Yeah, well, maybe next time.
• 26:45
  Speaker 3: Maybe next time.
• 26:46
Speaker 5: We'll get you out of there. We'll let you out.
• 26:47
Speaker 6: All right, Ashley. Appreciate it. We'll talk soon. Thanks a lot.
• 26:50
  Speaker 5: Thanks, Dave.
• 26:51

Speaker 6: can hurt you. And I will just say this. Anytime
• 27:14
Speaker 6: anybody complains about the traffic situation in Putnam County, I
• 27:18
Speaker 6: always tell them, Go to some areas of the state
• 27:21
Speaker 6: and complain about traffic. They would kill to have a
• 27:23
Speaker 6: traffic issue. All right, bring it on. And I'm sitting
• 27:26
Speaker 6: right there in the middle of it, you know, daily.
• 27:28
Speaker 6: So bring it on. It's a good problem to have.

Speaker 16: I'm Jason Lowe, the lead pastor of Faith Community Church
• 27:47
Speaker 16: in Beckley. If you are looking for a construction company,
• 27:49
Speaker 16: I would strongly recommend Jarrett Construction. John and his team
• 27:51
Speaker 16: walked us through the process of building our church from
• 27:53
Speaker 16: conceptualization to having a finished, fully functional building. When you build,
• 27:57
Speaker 16: there are always challenges, and you need a partner who
• 27:59
Speaker 16: will be present, take responsibility for the finished product, and
• 28:02
Speaker 16: effectively manage time and money. The team at Jarrett Construction
• 28:04
Speaker 16: was a godsend to us, and I'm excited to recommend
• 28:07
Speaker 16: them to other churches, businesses, or anyone needing a construction
• 28:10
Speaker 16: company they can trust.

• 30:17
Speaker 6: now two-hour Metro News Midday, jammed with the news, TJ
• 30:19
Speaker 6: Meadows will Stick around a little while. I told you
• 30:21
Speaker 6: earlier that Dylan Hackworth is on the show again today,
• 30:25
Speaker 6: as he just was. And he's got, well, I'll let
• 30:29
Speaker 6: him tell the story. It's a very interesting story about
• 30:31
Speaker 6: some fire departments as it relates to 9-11. So he's
• 30:34
Speaker 6: going to join us to talk about that. Chris Childs,
• 30:36
Speaker 6: longtime Cabell County prosecutor, has passed away. We're going to
• 30:39
Speaker 6: talk to the current Cabell County prosecutor, Jason Spears, about that.
• 30:43
Speaker 6: And a former FCC chairman will join us to talk
• 30:45
Speaker 6: about the problems with kids and tech problems. All that
• 30:48
Speaker 6: and more coming up on Metro News Midday with 13 News.
• 30:51
Speaker 6: And tonight, live anchor Amanda Barrett and me, powered by
• 30:53
Speaker 6: Selangor Law. Now, on this show tomorrow, our buddy Joe
• 30:56
Speaker 6: Stevens from the city of Nitro will talk about some
• 30:58
Speaker 6: cool things happening in the explosive town of Nitro. Danny
• 31:03
Speaker 6: Jones is here. How you doing, my friend?
• 31:05
Speaker 3: The place to go.
• 31:07
  Speaker 6: Is Nitro.
• 31:08
  Speaker 3: Is Nitro.
• 31:09
Speaker 6: You're looking well, man.
• 31:10
  Speaker 3: I'm doing fine.
• 31:11
Speaker 6: You're looking all spiffy today.
• 31:12
  Speaker 3: Thank you.
• 31:13
Speaker 6: I'll say this. You are always a fantastic dresser. I mean, especially,
• 31:18
Speaker 6: you know, when you were in public office. I mean,
• 31:20
Speaker 6: you look good now, but, I mean, you believe in
• 31:23
  Speaker 6: looking the part.
• 31:24
Speaker 3: I never went to work if I was wearing a suit.
• 31:29
  Speaker 3: I didn't wear a coat and tie. I always wore
• 31:31
  Speaker 3: a suit. And I don't even own a dress shirt
• 31:36
Speaker 3: that doesn't have French cuffs. And I had those cufflinks
• 31:40
Speaker 3: made with the City of Charleston emblem. They're gold on them.
• 31:46
Speaker 3: So I always had, uh, French cuffs with, uh, with
• 31:51
Speaker 3: gold and, uh, always, always wore a suit every, every,
• 31:56
  Speaker 3: every day.
• 31:56
Speaker 6: Why do you think that's important?
• 31:59
Speaker 3: Well, I, I just think that the, the mayor ought to,
• 32:07
Speaker 3: I represent the city and the mayor ought to look, um,
• 32:12
Speaker 3: good and dressy and, uh, There's a personal thing going
• 32:16
Speaker 3: on there, though. You've got to remember, except when I
• 32:20
Speaker 3: was sheriff in the legislature, I never wore a— I never
• 32:28
Speaker 3: dressed up. I wore kitchen clothes.
• 32:31
  Speaker 13: Yeah.
• 32:32
Speaker 3: And here I got a chance to strut around some
• 32:37
Speaker 3: really nice threads, and I did.
• 32:40
Speaker 6: Really good. Before we get into anything in the news,
• 32:43
Speaker 6: I want to tell you about something that you may enjoy.
• 32:45
Speaker 6: We're doing an event next week at Capital Market. Remember
• 32:49
Speaker 6: the show Family Affair?
• 32:50
  Speaker 3: Yeah.
• 32:51
Speaker 6: So Kathy Garver, who played Sissy on Family Affair, Mrs. Gilligan,
• 32:57
Speaker 6: Dream of Denver, and Julie McAuliffe. She was on the
• 33:01
Speaker 6: show Growing Pains and Sharknado. We're doing an event with
• 33:05
Speaker 6: those three at Capital Market, free admission, next week. Monday
• 33:11
  Speaker 6: from 4 until 6. And it's just kind of a
• 33:13
Speaker 6: Q & A with those three ladies, with all three actresses.
• 33:17
Speaker 6: You can get details on the WCHS Network Facebook page.
• 33:21
Speaker 6: I've known Dream of Denver for years. Julie, I don't know.
• 33:24
Speaker 6: I've interviewed Kathy Garver, who was Sissy on Family Affair,
• 33:28
Speaker 6: but I've never met her. I'm looking forward to meeting
• 33:29
Speaker 6: her over there. So it's going to be a nice event.
• 33:32
Speaker 6: You should come over and hang out and hang out
• 33:34
Speaker 6: with Sissy from Family Affair.
• 33:35
Speaker 3: I've had to drive a long way.
• 33:39
Speaker 6: I think you can do it. I think you can
• 33:41
Speaker 6: do it. Uh, all right. So a couple of things
• 33:43
Speaker 6: I wanted to get your opinion on and, you know, uh,
• 33:46
Speaker 6: where we're going to start. The president has banned Danny CNN,
• 33:50
Speaker 6: MS now, which is formerly, uh, MSNBC and Politico from
• 33:54
Speaker 6: the white house grounds. All three have announced that they
• 33:57
Speaker 6: will sue your take.
• 34:00
Speaker 3: Well, it ought to be a, uh, done in the
• 34:04
Speaker 3: form of a written mandamus. Um, to show cause why
• 34:11
Speaker 3: they shouldn't be allowed in there. I think it's outrageous.
• 34:16
Speaker 3: And the fact that you can just pick people out that.
• 34:22
Speaker 3: Look, I'm not a fan of MSNBC or... What, CNN?
• 34:27
Speaker 6: CNN, Politico, and MSNOW, formerly MSNBC.
• 34:32
Speaker 3: They have... These people are news organizations. They have lots
• 34:36
Speaker 3: of employees. And it's just an outrage, really. In my opinion.
• 34:41
Speaker 6: Well, and they're not, I mean, the thing about it
• 34:43
Speaker 6: is they're not saying that you can't cover. They're just
• 34:45
Speaker 6: saying that you have been, I mean, the optics to
• 34:48
Speaker 6: me are just terrible.
• 34:49
Speaker 3: Saying watch another television station.
• 34:52
Speaker 6: Well, or I mean, all those things are live. I mean,
• 34:54
Speaker 6: you know, I mean, everything's on YouTube or on C-SPAN
• 34:57
Speaker 6: or whatever. So on the network, so you can watch
• 35:00
Speaker 6: it and report on it. But they just don't, he
• 35:02
Speaker 6: just doesn't want them there. And all three are going
• 35:04
  Speaker 6: to sue.
• 35:05
  Speaker 3: They should.
• 35:06
Speaker 6: And this is, but here's the thing. This has been
• 35:09
Speaker 6: done in the past. OK, but never into my knowledge.
• 35:13
Speaker 6: And I tried to do a deep dive on this
• 35:14
Speaker 6: this morning. To my knowledge, it's never been done to
• 35:17
Speaker 6: an entire network. Joe Biden actually took away credentials from
• 35:21
Speaker 6: 440 reporters. But it wasn't a network. It was individual
• 35:27
Speaker 6: reporters that he took. And it was more they just
• 35:31
Speaker 6: changed the way that they did things, basically coming out
• 35:34
Speaker 6: and saying, well, there's too many people with access to
• 35:36
Speaker 6: these things. We're going to streamline it a little bit.
• 35:39
Speaker 6: He didn't come out, though, and say, all right, CNN,
• 35:42
Speaker 6: Fox News, or whatever, you can't come here anymore. Now,
• 35:46
Speaker 6: I said this earlier, I mean, to a lot of people.
• 35:49
Speaker 6: Imagine had, oh, you can use Biden, you can use Obama,
• 35:53
Speaker 6: you can use whoever you want. If they would have
• 35:54
Speaker 6: said Fox News, you are not allowed to cover this.
• 35:57
Speaker 6: A news organization, which, by the way, had been admitted
• 35:59
Speaker 6: in court that they weren't a legitimate news organization.
• 36:01
Speaker 3: I think President Obama did that.
• 36:04
Speaker 6: Did he do a network, though?
• 36:05
  Speaker 16: Fox.
• 36:07
  Speaker 17: Okay.
• 36:07
  Speaker 6: I'll have to.
• 36:08
Speaker 3: Google that and see if I'm wrong. All right.
• 36:11
Speaker 6: You keep talking and I'll Google.
• 36:14
Speaker 3: I want to talk about something that's really been bothering me.
• 36:19
Speaker 3: And I'm old enough, like a lot of people out
• 36:22
Speaker 3: there listening. to when President Kennedy was killed. And we,
• 36:30
Speaker 3: my family was all Republican. Richard Nixon, Senator Goldwater, Mitt
• 36:41
Speaker 3: Romney's dad, I mean, all of them. We were Republicans.
• 36:48
Speaker 3: But in 1964, I was home from military school. And somewhere,
• 36:58
Speaker 3: that's the part I can't remember, they were collecting money
• 37:04
Speaker 3: for the Kennedy Center. See, it had been planned when
• 37:10
Speaker 3: Eisenhower was president, but it was just going to be
• 37:12
Speaker 3: a center. You know, a performance hall and a museum.
• 37:19
Speaker 3: But when President Kennedy died, they thought they'd name it
• 37:22
Speaker 3: after him. And so I asked my mother, you know,
• 37:27
Speaker 3: I made money collecting pop bottles and mowing grass. I said,
• 37:32
Speaker 3: I'd like to give $ 5. And she said, well, I
• 37:35
  Speaker 3: think that's real nice. And I gave $ 5. And I
• 37:39
Speaker 3: got a card from Jackie thanking me for the contribution. Now,
• 37:49
Speaker 3: I don't know what President Trump has planned here, but
• 37:56
Speaker 3: it needs a lot of work. Matter of fact, in
• 37:58
Speaker 3: the front foyer there, it's crumbling. You can see it
• 38:02
Speaker 3: on the ground, on the floor. All they'd have to
• 38:10
Speaker 3: do is turn off the heat in the building during
• 38:12
Speaker 3: the winter. And it'd get real moist in there, and
• 38:17
Speaker 3: the ceiling, the roof could possibly crack. And all because
• 38:23
Speaker 3: President Trump wants his name on it.
• 38:25
  Speaker 12: Mm-hmm.
• 38:27
Speaker 3: And it infuriates me. He is a draft doctor. President
• 38:34
Speaker 3: Kennedy was a war hero. And it really, really grates
• 38:41
Speaker 3: me that that happened.
• 38:43
  Speaker 8: Mm-hmm.
• 38:44
Speaker 3: You know, it just really upsets me.
• 38:47
Speaker 6: It upsets a lot of people.
• 38:49
  Speaker 3: And I think it's wrong. And I can't believe— and it's,
• 38:56
Speaker 3: you know, if not for the— I mean, you could just
• 39:01
Speaker 3: pile that on to a bunch of reasons that the
• 39:03
Speaker 3: Democrats are going to take everything in this election. Now,
• 39:10
Speaker 3: I'll tell you one prediction I'm going to make. Tallarico—
• 39:14
Speaker 3: It's going to be the next senator from Texas. The Democrat.
• 39:20
Speaker 6: I saw a piece on that a couple days ago
• 39:22
Speaker 6: with somebody that was agreeing with you.
• 39:24
Speaker 3: You remember when Beto ran against Ted Cruz?
• 39:27
  Speaker 1: Mm-hmm.
• 39:30
Speaker 3: Only beat him by three points. And Tallarico's ahead six,
• 39:35
Speaker 3: and he's running against a guy who is an open degenerate.
• 39:43
Speaker 3: He's had criminal charges brought against him. He's been impeached.
• 39:47
Speaker 3: He had a girlfriend who he paraded around with while
• 39:52
Speaker 3: he was married, and his wife was a state senator.
• 39:58
Speaker 3: And I don't get that. I mean, if we were
• 40:02
Speaker 3: watching Dr. Phil, maybe, but I don't, you know, this
• 40:08
Speaker 3: wasn't something he snuck around and got a hotel room.
• 40:10
Speaker 3: This is something he did openly. And they could have
• 40:16
Speaker 3: easily gotten a seat back with Cornyn.
• 40:20
Speaker 6: The thing about Texas is people think Texas, Danny, and
• 40:23
Speaker 6: they think, well, it's right-wing. There are certain ideologies there,
• 40:29
Speaker 6: but there– I mean, anytime you have cities– you have
• 40:32
Speaker 6: a state that has large metropolitan areas, Dallas, Houston, Austin
• 40:36
Speaker 6: is as liberal as it comes, and some of those
• 40:39
Speaker 6: cities like that, then– it's not all going to be
• 40:43
Speaker 6: just right wing. I mean, you're going to have.
• 40:45
  Speaker 3: Well, Travis County.
• 40:49
  Speaker 1: Is.
• 40:50
Speaker 3: That's awesome. They indicted Governor Perry when he was governor
• 40:58
Speaker 3: for vetoing a bill. Do you hear what I said? Yeah.
• 41:05
Speaker 3: For vetoing a bill. And so the state of Texas
• 41:10
Speaker 3: had to pay a lawyer $ 400 an hour to defend
• 41:16
Speaker 3: Rick Perry on a really frivolous charge. They indicted Tom DeLay.
• 41:24
Speaker 3: He lost in lower court, but he had it overturned.
• 41:31
  Speaker 3: But it cost him, I think, $ 700, 000 or $ 800, 000. He
• 41:33
Speaker 3: had Dick DeGarian. who at that time, he's 85 now,
• 41:40
Speaker 3: he's probably the best lawyer in Texas at that time. But,
• 41:47
Speaker 3: you know, Trump, they brag about he can, if you
• 41:50
Speaker 3: don't get the endorsement in the primary, you can't win. Well,
• 41:54
Speaker 3: if you win the primary, there's a good shot you'll
• 41:58
Speaker 3: lose the election. And I submit for your consideration, Hershel Walker,
• 42:04
Speaker 3: Kerry Lake, and now this guy in Texas. Because he
• 42:10
Speaker 3: wants to— and then he mucked up that election in Maryland,
• 42:14
Speaker 3: that governor's race, which gave us Wes Moore. Now, maybe
• 42:20
Speaker 3: Wes Moore would have won anyway. But I can't think
• 42:24
Speaker 3: of the governor's name at the time. Big guy. Heavy guy.
• 42:28
Speaker 3: He's a Republican, but he didn't like Trump.
• 42:31
  Speaker 6: Okay.
• 42:32
Speaker 3: And he was running his secretary of commerce for the female.
• 42:37
  Speaker 5: Mm-hmm.
• 42:38
Speaker 3: As a Republican candidate. Well, so Trump got in there
• 42:42
Speaker 3: and grabbed some Yahoo out of the legislature. And so
• 42:47
Speaker 3: he endorsed him, and this guy got nominated and got
• 42:52
Speaker 3: 31% of the vote against Wes Moore.
• 42:55
Speaker 6: Let me go back to the Barack Obama thing, and
• 42:58
Speaker 6: we had a text about this too. So what happened
• 43:00
Speaker 6: was when you said, we're talking about Barack Obama banning reporter.
• 43:03
Speaker 6: In October 2009, the Treasury Department tried to exclude a
• 43:07
Speaker 6: Fox News journalist from a single press pool interview with
• 43:11
Speaker 6: the administration's pay czar. Other networks, including CNN, pushed back
• 43:19
Speaker 6: and refused to participate if Fox was blocked. And the
• 43:23
Speaker 6: administration reversed the decision, and Fox wasn't allowed to cover
• 43:27
Speaker 6: the event. So in essence, Fox never banned or Obama
• 43:30
Speaker 6: never banned CNN. or did that with Fox News. It
• 43:33
Speaker 6: was the Treasury Department, and oddly enough, and we've got
• 43:37
Speaker 6: to go to break, CNN came to Fox News' defense.

Speaker 3: Why don't they all walk out?
• 43:43
  Speaker 6: Yeah.
• 43:43
Speaker 3: That's what will stop this. We all refuse to go
• 43:46
Speaker 3: unless CNN and MSNBC and— Well.
• 43:49
Speaker 6: Fox News is not going to do that. You know
• 43:51
Speaker 6: Fox is not going to do that. But CNN did
• 43:53
Speaker 6: it for them in 2009. Well, they ought to do
• 43:55
Speaker 6: it now. They ought to do it. We've got to
• 43:59
Speaker 6: leave it right there. I'm going to take a break,
• 44:01
Speaker 6: and we've got a lot of text to get to

• 45:31
Speaker 6: Welcome back to the show. Seven away from 10 o'clock.
• 45:34
Speaker 6: I got a couple texts here. Danny Jones is here.
• 45:36
Speaker 6: Text says, it's common sense. Any veteran will tell you
• 45:38
Speaker 6: if you don't have freedom of the press, you don't
• 45:40
Speaker 6: have democracy and a free nation. Text, Trump is trying
• 45:45
Speaker 6: to steal valor from a guy who has an aircraft
• 45:49
Speaker 6: carrier named after him. Trump is a thief. Text says,
• 45:53
Speaker 6: Barack Obama never banned Fox News, as we said earlier,
• 45:55
Speaker 6: from the White House press room or anything else for
• 45:57
Speaker 6: that matter. Sex abuser, talking about President Trump, is the
• 45:59
Speaker 6: single greatest threat to democracy in the U.S. Don't try
• 46:02
Speaker 6: to both sides. This attack on free speech, if Republicans
• 46:05
Speaker 6: had honor, they would admit that their sex abusers engage
• 46:08
Speaker 6: in censorship that they seem to care about. It is pathetic.
• 46:10
Speaker 6: I'm not trying to both sides anything.
• 46:12
  Speaker 3: I wasn't. Please, I'll apologize. I didn't. I heard that
• 46:18
Speaker 3: on the news. Yeah, it's okay. On a news channel.
• 46:23
Speaker 3: And I... I never meant to run down President Obama. Yeah.
• 46:28
Speaker 6: Well, there was an incident, but again, it was with
• 46:30
Speaker 6: the Treasury Department. And what I didn't know until I
• 46:33
Speaker 6: just looked it up is that CNN came to Fox News.
• 46:35
Speaker 3: Well, and they ought to do it now. Brett Baier
• 46:38
Speaker 3: and Brett Hume and those guys and all those news
• 46:42
  Speaker 3: organizations ought to.
• 46:44
  Speaker 6: All walk out.
• 46:46
Speaker 3: They ought to walk out. Say, we'll come back with
• 46:49
Speaker 3: Politico and MSNBC. And, you know, I'm not crazy about
• 46:55
Speaker 3: these stations, but I watch CNN a little bit. I
• 46:58
Speaker 3: like Jake Tapper. And I'll tell you what. I listened
• 47:01
Speaker 3: on noon. Could it have been Friday? I listened to— I
• 47:08
Speaker 3: was in my car, and I was listening to Dana,
• 47:12
  Speaker 3: the blonde-headed lady.
• 47:14
  Speaker 6: Dana Bash?
• 47:15
  Speaker 8: Yeah.
• 47:15
  Speaker 13: Yeah.
• 47:16
Speaker 3: And I was listening to her. She interviewed me once.
• 47:19
Speaker 3: And she had Mark Wayne Mullen on. And the exchange
• 47:23
Speaker 3: didn't get testy, but it was a good exchange. They
• 47:29
Speaker 3: both dug deep. It was a good interview. And I
• 47:33
Speaker 3: enjoyed it. And I don't know why Mark Wayne Mullen
• 47:37
Speaker 3: would give up a Senate seat to go to work
• 47:40
Speaker 3: in the Trump administration. I just don't get it.
• 47:43
Speaker 6: Text, it doesn't matter if it's a network or the
• 47:46
Speaker 6: individual reporter who's the representative of that network that are banned.
• 47:49
Speaker 6: Both are the same. Can't have it both ways. And
• 47:51
Speaker 6: then they went on to say that Obama banned the
• 47:54
Speaker 6: press and Fox News reporter. And again, that's been that
• 47:56
Speaker 6: that did not happen that way. But I do appreciate
• 47:59
Speaker 6: the text. Texas, Telerico is a complete blasphemer. He said
• 48:03
Speaker 6: God is non-binary. His favorite kids are trans kids. His
• 48:05
Speaker 6: names of his favorite Texas drag queens without hesitation. And
• 48:09
Speaker 6: said Mary could have had an abortion. I'll take a
• 48:12
Speaker 6: so-called criminal over a demagogue any day. Well, Trump is
• 48:14
  Speaker 6: not a so-called criminal.
• 48:16
Speaker 3: No, he's talking about the Attorney General Paxton. Oh, okay, okay.
• 48:24
Speaker 6: I got you, I got you.
• 48:26
Speaker 3: Well, you know, he can bring all that stuff up
• 48:29
Speaker 3: he wants, but Tallarico's hitting the polls.
• 48:32
Speaker 6: Tech says the Kennedy Center's Board of Trustees are who
• 48:34
Speaker 6: vote on the name and the repairs, not Trump.
• 48:36
Speaker 3: And they're appointed by Trump. And he stacked it. And
• 48:42
Speaker 3: it's—I'm sorry. I just get upset.
• 48:48
Speaker 6: Well, let it out, man.
• 48:49
Speaker 3: I just get upset about that sociopath. He thinks he
• 48:57
Speaker 3: can put his name on the front of that building.
• 49:00
Speaker 3: With President Kennedy. It's outrageous. He is a draft dodger.
• 49:09
Speaker 3: He went four years to military school. Bone spurs? Are
• 49:15
Speaker 3: you kidding me? He was a company commander.
• 49:18
  Speaker 6: He marched.
• 49:20
Speaker 3: He carried a baton.
• 49:24
Speaker 6: Why haven't, in your opinion, Danny, when he was first
• 49:26
Speaker 6: running for office, why didn't more veterans speak out against him?
• 49:31
Speaker 3: Because he was a Republican. They did it with Clinton
• 49:35
Speaker 3: because Clinton beat Clinton be the war hero, you know,
• 49:42
Speaker 3: even though I don't– talk radio was– I think talk
• 49:47
Speaker 3: radio was much more conservative then. And I hosted a
• 49:51
Speaker 3: show back in those days. I hosted it through that election.
• 49:55
Speaker 3: And it– you know, when President Bush got beat, it
• 49:58
Speaker 3: kind of broke my heart. But– I went to the
• 50:03
Speaker 3: white house and I saw president and I was close
• 50:06
Speaker 3: to you to president Clinton. I said, God, he's big.
• 50:09
Speaker 3: His neck was just huge. Now it's not ever since
• 50:14
Speaker 3: he had that operation where they cut him open and
• 50:17
Speaker 3: split his shell. He was out for six hours. He's
• 50:20
Speaker 3: not the same guy.
• 50:22
Speaker 6: My father, uh, passed away before Donald Trump ran for president,
• 50:26
Speaker 6: but I can tell you, my father was not a
• 50:27
Speaker 6: political by any stretch of the imagination. But he would
• 50:31
Speaker 6: have had a real hard time with Donald Trump because
• 50:33
Speaker 6: he had a real hard time with Bill Clinton. And again,
• 50:35
Speaker 6: my dad wasn't political in the least.
• 50:37
Speaker 3: Dad would have voted for him the first time because
• 50:40
Speaker 3: they both went to Wharton. But I don't know about now.
• 50:44
  Speaker 3: I mean, I hope my father wouldn't. I know my
• 50:48
  Speaker 3: mother wouldn't have.
• 50:49
Speaker 6: But a valid show on 580 Live brought to you
• 50:51
Speaker 6: in part by Morgan & Morgan, America's largest injury law firm. Danny,
• 50:53
Speaker 6: it is always a pleasure to have you on the show.
• 50:55
Speaker 6: Let's check in to see what Mr. We can hang
• 50:57
  Speaker 6: out with Mr.
• 50:58
  Speaker 9: Meadows.
• 50:58
Speaker 8: What you got going on on the talk line? 1106
• 51:00
Speaker 8: Putnam County Senator Eric Tarr joins us.
• 51:02
Speaker 6: We'll get the latest.
• 51:03
Speaker 8: Also talk about what we're going to do about child
• 51:05
Speaker 8: care and welfare in this state. Moving forward with Raley's
• 51:08
Speaker 8: Law and other. He has some thoughts on that. Brad
• 51:10
Speaker 8: joins us with the latest on a nuclear West Virginia.
• 51:13
Speaker 8: He has his hands on the MOU from the state
• 51:15
Speaker 8: with the DOE. We'll break that down. And then coming
• 51:17
Speaker 8: up at 10.06, Mon County Senator Mike Oliverio. To flock
• 51:21
Speaker 8: or not to flock with a warrant? That is the question.
• 51:25
  Speaker 3: All right.
• 51:26
Speaker 6: Talk line coming up at 10.06. I'll be back later
• 51:28
Speaker 6: today with 13 News and Tonight Live anchor Amanda Barron
• 51:31
Speaker 6: on Metro News Midday. Two-hour version now starting today, noon
• 51:34
Speaker 6: to 2. And then hotline will run from 2 until 5.
• 51:37
Speaker 6: Expanded sports line from 5. Until 7. Producer Ryan Nicholson,
• 51:40
Speaker 6: thank you so much. Coming up on this show tomorrow,
• 51:42
Speaker 6: Joe Stevens will stop by from the city of Nitro.
• 51:45
Speaker 6: I'll see you later today. Until then, have fun. I
• 51:48
  Speaker 6: love somebody.
