- 0:04Speaker 1: Trepper, What have you observed that has stood out in
- 0:06Speaker 1: this particular postseason take us inside the game.
- 0:09Speaker 2: What do you have so a couple theories I have,
- 0:13Speaker 2: And because we have a catcher also here on the show,
- 0:16Speaker 2: I would love to get Kratz's opinion on this as well.
- 0:20Speaker 2: Something I felt when I was playing and getting ready
- 0:23Speaker 2: to pitch in a playoff game was because I was
- 0:26Speaker 2: always so forcing fastball heavy, and I threw hard and
- 0:29Speaker 2: swings and misses were a big part of my game.
- 0:31Speaker 2: There was always an understanding that fastballs like velocity beating guys.
- 0:37Speaker 2: You can't count on that near as much in the
- 0:39Speaker 2: playoffs as you can in the other season, because one
- 0:42Speaker 2: you're facing the best hitters. Usually it's better teams. But
- 0:44Speaker 2: also like the adrenaline the energy problem that a lot
- 0:48Speaker 2: of guys have, like let's just get the game over
- 0:50Speaker 2: or whatever, those situations don't come up right. Every pitch
- 0:53Speaker 2: matters so much and everyone's so dialed in that it's
- 0:57Speaker 2: just hard to get a fastball by anybody. I think
- 1:00Speaker 2: it's played out. I have some odd statistic stats. We
- 1:03Speaker 2: talked about Aaron Judge hitting the ninety nine in the playoffs.
- 1:06Speaker 2: There have been six home runs hit on pitches ninety
- 1:09Speaker 2: nine miles an arrow harder for context, during the regular season,
- 1:13Speaker 2: there was twenty three total hit in two four hundred
- 1:16Speaker 2: and thirty games. I believe that is one every one
- 1:19Speaker 2: hundred and five pointy six games. In the playoffs, it's
- 1:22Speaker 2: won every three point five games, so that rate is
- 1:26Speaker 2: a lot more. Now, of course there's about eight times
- 1:28Speaker 2: as many pitches over one hundred because we see so
- 1:30Speaker 2: many of the best pitchers. But still that doesn't really
- 1:32Speaker 2: account for it, right, So one does v low matter
- 1:37Speaker 2: as much? Or is this why we see the Lance
- 1:40Speaker 2: McCullers fifty straight curve balls or the Tommy Kinley's having
- 1:43Speaker 2: success in the playoffs because he throws sixty one straight changeups?
- 1:46Speaker 2: Is that a thing pratzy? Is that something that hitters
- 1:50Speaker 2: are aware of that like, you know, if I stay
- 1:52Speaker 2: on fastballs and I can fell off or a fight
- 1:55Speaker 2: off the breaking ball stuff, that I'm able to do
- 1:58Speaker 2: more damage because doing damage is so important. Because there's
- 2:00Speaker 2: just generally less hits in the playoffs, you're just seeing
- 2:03Speaker 2: relievers in the second inning, for sure.
- 2:06Speaker 3: I think that's I think that you're not stringing as
- 2:08Speaker 3: many hits together. I feel that. But I remember the
- 2:11Speaker 3: first postseason that I was ever involved in, I didn't
- 2:14Speaker 3: get in any games, but twenty eleven, I was with
- 2:17Speaker 3: the Phillies or playing the Cardinals, and the extra I
- 2:22Speaker 3: don't know, like extra batspeed, extra distance the ball was
- 2:26Speaker 3: going justin BP getting ready for the game. It felt
- 2:30Speaker 3: like almost like a superpower. So fast forward to twenty fourteen.
- 2:34Speaker 3: I still didn't get in any postseason games, but it
- 2:36Speaker 3: was that same feel. It feels like you can get
- 2:39Speaker 3: to so many more pitches. Why that is, like, why
- 2:43Speaker 3: you can't do that in the regular season. I don't know.
- 2:45Speaker 3: It's probably like a Key k Hernandez type of question
- 2:49Speaker 3: because he's elite, But I felt it there was nobody
- 2:52Speaker 3: that was going to get a fast ball by me. Normally,
- 2:55Speaker 3: that was my best part of my hitting abilities, was
- 2:59Speaker 3: hitting a ball, But when teams in the postseason would
- 3:03Speaker 3: throw me fastballs, it was like it didn't matter if
- 3:05Speaker 3: it was ninety seven up in the zone where I
- 3:07Speaker 3: normally couldn't handle it. I was gonna get to it.
- 3:10Speaker 3: And so I think there's something to that. I think
- 3:12Speaker 3: it's the adrenaline. I don't think you asked, is it
- 3:15Speaker 3: like a conscious effort I don't think it's a conscious effort.
- 3:18Speaker 3: I don't think guys actually understand it. Sometimes they feel it,
- 3:22Speaker 3: but I don't think they understand it. Like why am
- 3:24Speaker 3: I able to hit the ball into the upper deck
- 3:27Speaker 3: OPO MVP during the postseason and not during the regular season.
- 3:32Speaker 3: Probably because there's a little bit of adrenaline running through
- 3:35Speaker 3: your veins.
- 3:37Speaker 2: Yeah, Baseball, major League baseball. So often it comes down
- 3:42Speaker 2: to if you have energy or not. Like you just
- 3:45Speaker 2: sometimes like I have no energy today. It's it is addust. Second,
- 3:48Speaker 2: the trade headline's over, and now I just you know,
- 3:51Speaker 2: we're not going for a push yet. I just want
- 3:53Speaker 2: a nap. I just want a nap. And then in
- 3:55Speaker 2: the playoffs, you're like, I don't even I don't even
- 3:57Speaker 2: need to sleep well. We worry about when I'm dead.
- 4:02Speaker 2: So I always felt it. It seems like it plays
- 4:05Speaker 2: out in the stats, and it's interesting guys who are
- 4:08Speaker 2: leaning on their fastball are used to doing it, like
- 4:10Speaker 2: are struggling a little bit to make that adjustment. The
- 4:14Speaker 2: second thing that I thought was interesting, and I'm going
- 4:19Speaker 2: to mention the pitch clock, but I don't think it's
- 4:20Speaker 2: the actual time of the clock. I just think it's
- 4:22Speaker 2: how it's changed the pace of the game. Right, Things
- 4:24Speaker 2: get going pretty quickly. We're used to playoff games being
- 4:27Speaker 2: four and a half hours long, right, And there was
- 4:30Speaker 2: a part of that that happened in the past before
- 4:32Speaker 2: the clock, that young guys pitching in the playoffs. It's
- 4:37Speaker 2: one of those things where you have there's no way
- 4:40Speaker 2: to prepare until you're there. And a strategy for veterans,
- 4:44Speaker 2: like Tory Hunter used to tell me this too, in
- 4:46Speaker 2: a big game, a great strategy for a veteran guy
- 4:50Speaker 2: is ice that guy, like, make him starting pitcher, he's
- 4:53Speaker 2: a rookie, make him have to be dominant in the
- 4:56Speaker 2: first inning so that he starts to question whether or
- 4:59Speaker 2: not he's got it that day. Because that is amplified
- 5:01Speaker 2: ten x. Right now we have the clock. Things are
- 5:04Speaker 2: going so quickly that the strategy seems to be Hitters
- 5:07Speaker 2: are like, let's jump on him with the bats, as
- 5:09Speaker 2: opposed to icing him, slowing the game down and making
- 5:11Speaker 2: him sit out there and think we need to rattle
- 5:14Speaker 2: his confidence by string and three hits together start this game.
- 5:16Speaker 2: And so that let that snowball, because the clock is
- 5:18Speaker 2: going to keep the game going no matter what we do.
- 5:20Speaker 2: And if we can get him snowballing with the clock.
- 5:23Speaker 2: We had to get the clock to use, working our
- 5:25Speaker 2: advantage as opposed to work against us. But because there's
- 5:29Speaker 2: less hits and it's mostly pitching heavy, the best pitchers
- 5:33Speaker 2: are out there, and that's what it's been last few
- 5:35Speaker 2: years that that tends to help the pitcher out a
- 5:38Speaker 2: little bit. And I think we've seen a little bit
- 5:40Speaker 2: like the Detroit tried to jump on Gavin Williams and
- 5:43Speaker 2: it was like the first thinning with six pitches, and
- 5:46Speaker 2: now he's feeling good and he's had a very good outing.
- 5:48Speaker 2: Kir Scooball is not going to throw balls right. So
- 5:51Speaker 2: if you can try to jump on him, if he
- 5:53Speaker 2: has a less than ten pitch inning, uh oh, we
- 5:55Speaker 2: might have just set him right in. And it's going
- 5:57Speaker 2: to be hard to to string these hits together. Else
- 6:00Speaker 2: to see it on the flip side, if you get
- 6:01Speaker 2: to them, there's being a lot of run scorts. So
- 6:02Speaker 2: I feel like there's it's like a low scoring game
- 6:04Speaker 2: or really high scoring game. That's all we're getting. I
- 6:06Speaker 2: feel like that's part of it is this watching the game.
- 6:08Speaker 2: Do you guys feel this at all?
- 6:10Speaker 3: Scotti, Yeah, I definitely feel it. I definitely see see this,
- 6:17Speaker 3: and I think it's because look at the dudes that
- 6:19Speaker 3: are out on the mount. I mean, you can just
- 6:21Speaker 3: go the one night you went Garah Crochet, Max Freed,
- 6:26Speaker 3: Trek Scooble. What do they do really good besides throw strikes?
- 6:30Speaker 3: They strike dudes out. You do not want to strike out,
- 6:33Speaker 3: so you're gonna go and get your swing off on
- 6:36Speaker 3: the first few pitches, and you don't want to get
- 6:38Speaker 3: to two strikes, especially like if you're on the road.
- 6:41Speaker 3: Every postseason two strike at bat when it's a tie
- 6:45Speaker 3: ball game, fans are up, everybody's cheering. You don't want
- 6:49Speaker 3: to get in that situation. So guys are like, hey,
- 6:52Speaker 3: you know what, I'm gonna get this swing off. I'm
- 6:55Speaker 3: gonna get after this first pitch. Heater and everything's so
- 6:58Speaker 3: hard nowadays. Two. I get it that, you know, a
- 7:01Speaker 3: breaking ball is an off speed pitch, but when the
- 7:04Speaker 3: miz is out there and he's throwing a ninety four
- 7:06Speaker 3: mile hour slider, like, yeah, I'm geared up for one
- 7:10Speaker 3: hundred and four, but I'm also able to stay on
- 7:13Speaker 3: ninety four, So I'm just looking for something on the plate.
- 7:16Speaker 3: I'm not necessarily waiting to see Okay, wait till he
- 7:20Speaker 3: comes in my zone. No, I'm just trying to I'm
- 7:22Speaker 3: trying to get after it right away late in account.
- 7:24Speaker 3: Then I'm waiting for something in my zone.
- 7:27Speaker 1: This is our actual shout out here to Fox one
- 7:30Speaker 1: and the streaming app and how you can get that
- 7:32Speaker 1: app for free for seven days. Try it out and
- 7:35Speaker 1: get a little Tigers Mariners today, also Yankees and Blue
- 7:40Speaker 1: Jays at Night. Also NFL Action college Football Action that
- 7:45Speaker 1: includes Big neon Saturdays. It's all there. There's plenty of
- 7:48Speaker 1: shows to check out as well, which we'll dive into over.
- 7:51Speaker 4: The next few weeks. But Fox one is the app.
- 7:54Speaker 1: You can get more information at foxne dot com. That's
- 7:59Speaker 1: the spot it is. Trevor, You're the only one that
- 8:02Speaker 1: hasn't seen that one yet. Do you like what we
- 8:04Speaker 1: did there with the graphic?
- 8:06Speaker 2: Love it? Love it? Anytime I can look at Tom,
- 8:09Speaker 2: I'm happy.
- 8:10Speaker 4: Yes, Tom looks back.
- 8:12Speaker 1: I have jaw Wow, chiseled chiseled Tom on Sundays, Pierzinski
- 8:19Speaker 1: on many weekdays on games and Saturdays throughout the regular season.
- 8:27Speaker 1: And Trevor, this is still a dream for a starting
- 8:30Speaker 1: pitcher because you're trying to eat innings for your team,
- 8:33Speaker 1: and that's something that I root for. I mean, call
- 8:37Speaker 1: me old school, but I like to see a starter
- 8:40Speaker 1: go deep into a contest. In fact, Game three, Logan
- 8:46Speaker 1: Gilbert is pretty much dominating for the Mariners. I know
- 8:50Speaker 1: they got to him, I think in his last or
- 8:51Speaker 1: second or last inning a little bit, but I was like, damn.
- 8:55Speaker 1: I know he didn't do it much during the year,
- 8:57Speaker 1: but he's done it in the past and he's feeling
- 8:59Speaker 1: it to see them keep going. And that were early swings.
- 9:02Speaker 1: So I do think it can create these vintage starting
- 9:06Speaker 1: pitching performances that we haven't seen much of. I don't
- 9:10Speaker 1: know any math yet, but it does feel like we've
- 9:12Speaker 1: seen a little bit more of that, a little bit more, okay,
- 9:16Speaker 1: one more inning. You have to have the pitch count
- 9:18Speaker 1: in check to be able to do that, and to
- 9:20Speaker 1: have the pitch count in check, you have to have
- 9:21Speaker 1: some innings that stand out where it's like, oh, damn,
- 9:24Speaker 1: six pitch inning, nine pitch inning. There's been a few
- 9:26Speaker 1: too early on where I'll bring this one up. And again,
- 9:29Speaker 1: this is just going off what I'm what I'm seeing,
- 9:31Speaker 1: and I'm not putting specific stats to it yet, but
- 9:33Speaker 1: we've seen some first or secondings where sometimes you do
- 9:36Speaker 1: see some good takes and it's like Lozardo twenty four
- 9:39Speaker 1: pitch first, and there's been a few others, right, and
- 9:41Speaker 1: then all of a sudden you see the earlier attack
- 9:44Speaker 1: go from innings two or three through four or five,
- 9:47Speaker 1: and that enables your starter to go a little bit
- 9:49Speaker 1: deeper as well. So I've seen a little bit of
- 9:51Speaker 1: that as well, where you know you're worried about the
- 9:54Speaker 1: pitch count for the starter and you think a team
- 9:56Speaker 1: is going to grind out every app bad and be
- 9:59Speaker 1: taken a ton pitches and driving up deep counts, and
- 10:02Speaker 1: then the approach reverts to what you're talking about.
- 10:06Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, I feel like we've seen more starter handed
- 10:09Speaker 2: off to the closer this year than we did we
- 10:12Speaker 2: have lately. I think it's happened three times. Like I
- 10:17Speaker 2: think Tray Shaviage could have easily done it, but yeah, yeah,
- 10:19Speaker 2: we had Schlitler do it, we had Crochet do it,
- 10:22Speaker 2: we had Schoble do it. It's first out it so
- 10:24Speaker 2: like that's three's and Yammoto that's four, Like that's probably
- 10:29Speaker 2: I'm just guessing, and I don't think it happened very
- 10:31Speaker 2: often last year because I know, I know the Dodgers
- 10:34Speaker 2: didn't do it at all, So it's it's it's interesting
- 10:38Speaker 2: that it's both creating more of that, like where aces
- 10:43Speaker 2: are keeping their pitch count down because they're like, these
- 10:45Speaker 2: guys don't walk people and their veterans. We have to
- 10:48Speaker 2: jump on them and rattle their confidence with our bats.
- 10:51Speaker 2: And then it's not leaving as much space to let
- 10:54Speaker 2: a young guy who is where the moment might be
- 10:58Speaker 2: too big. It just feels like that isn't as good
- 11:01Speaker 2: of a strategy as much anymore that it used to be.
- 11:05Speaker 2: And I mean you can say that's good or bad, right,
- 11:08Speaker 2: who wants a five hour game that's too long? But
- 11:12Speaker 2: at the same time, like it was kind of the
- 11:14Speaker 2: games ship of the game that feels like sometimes it's
- 11:17Speaker 2: either you're gonna come out, you're going to really go
- 11:19Speaker 2: after the guy and be really aggressive, or you're going
- 11:22Speaker 2: to try to grind them out a little bit and
- 11:25Speaker 2: see if they'll put the kid themselves in trouble. And
- 11:27Speaker 2: I think we've seen that happen a couple times, you know,
- 11:29Speaker 2: with Boyd and Imanaga. Right, he got knocked around a
- 11:33Speaker 2: little bit and they were aggresive against him. So it's
- 11:34Speaker 2: worked a couple of times, but more or less pitchers
- 11:38Speaker 2: are benefiting a little bit more from this stuff.
- 11:40Speaker 1: I feel like, yeah, I mean to me, look at
- 11:43Speaker 1: twenty twenty as the prime example of pulling a pitcher
- 11:46Speaker 1: too soon and not having a feel with Blake Snell
- 11:49Speaker 1: against the Dodgers, right, and then you're like, ah, I
- 11:51Speaker 1: feel like teams are going to learn their lesson after that.
- 11:53Speaker 1: They really didn't. For the next few years, it felt
- 11:57Speaker 1: like managers couldn't wait to go to the bullpen because
- 12:00Speaker 1: of the stuff ticking up right in our sport in general,
- 12:03Speaker 1: and you're just seeing such high velocity and great stuff
- 12:06Speaker 1: out of the bullpen and the fear of facing in
- 12:09Speaker 1: order a third time through. It does feel like there's
- 12:12Speaker 1: a bit of a shift right now, Kratz. I don't
- 12:14Speaker 1: know if you feel like that, not in all of baseball,
- 12:16Speaker 1: but it does feel like there's a little bit more
- 12:18Speaker 1: trust with certain high level starters to go a little
- 12:22Speaker 1: bit deeper and to have to make that decision, especially
- 12:25Speaker 1: if you go later into a Series two and say,
- 12:28Speaker 1: how many times is the same reliever going to face
- 12:30Speaker 1: the same hitter in this spot? And when I have
- 12:33Speaker 1: a starter who's dealing right now and he's at eighty
- 12:35Speaker 1: some odd pitches, can I sneak three more outs out
- 12:38Speaker 1: of him?
- 12:40Speaker 3: Yep? But what defans want? They want the win. They
- 12:44Speaker 3: could care Honestly, I would have a hard time believing
- 12:47Speaker 3: a Red Sox fan could care less ifs if garrik
- 12:52Speaker 3: Osche goes six innings and the Red Sox win, or
- 12:56Speaker 3: if he goes eight and the Red Sox lose, they
- 12:59Speaker 3: much much rather have the w And as far as
- 13:02Speaker 3: front offices making those decisions, the only reason the Dodgers
- 13:06Speaker 3: are making these decisions is because they're basing it on
- 13:09Speaker 3: the fact that their best pitcher in the next inning
- 13:13Speaker 3: is still the starter is still Shoheo Tani is still
- 13:16Speaker 3: Blake Snell, is still Yamamoto because third time through or
- 13:23Speaker 3: not right now, their bullpen is already on their third
- 13:27Speaker 3: time through, and those guys aren't getting those outs, so
- 13:30Speaker 3: they're sticking with them. To me, I think it's the
- 13:32Speaker 3: best example of a manager and an organization really using
- 13:38Speaker 3: their eyes and watching the game, really using their eyes
- 13:41Speaker 3: and watching the game. The only reason we're talking about
- 13:43Speaker 3: Shane Bieber coming out of the game last night was
- 13:47Speaker 3: because they lost to me, it was a three run game.
- 13:51Speaker 3: You brought in your highest leverage reliever that you have
- 13:55Speaker 3: to me. I think Louis Varlin since he got rid
- 13:57Speaker 3: of the you know, he was tipping pitches when we
- 13:59Speaker 3: first got over there. Once he got rid of that,
- 14:02Speaker 3: he's been nails. He gave it up. I get it.
- 14:05Speaker 3: But you gotta go. You gotta go with you gotta
- 14:08Speaker 3: get yourself out of that jam right there. Could they
- 14:10Speaker 3: have gotten more out of Bieber? Maybe, But if you
- 14:15Speaker 3: lose with Bieber in there, you're not feeling too good
- 14:18Speaker 3: when you had some fresh arms and some good arms
- 14:21Speaker 3: in the bullpen. I don't care that today was a
- 14:24Speaker 3: bullpen day or not.
- 14:27Speaker 1: We were a homer away from a tie game in
- 14:29Speaker 1: that spot when he was removed, right it was first
- 14:32Speaker 1: and second.
- 14:33Speaker 3: That's why I say it was a good move. In
- 14:35Speaker 3: my opinion, that's a good move. They're not trying to
- 14:37Speaker 3: get the win for Shane Bieber. It's not like, oh,
- 14:39Speaker 3: keep him out there, it'd be so neat to get
- 14:41Speaker 3: the W. They're trying to get in a regular season game.
- 14:44Speaker 3: He's got to get himself out of that jam and
- 14:46Speaker 3: go five. And I think he probably does, but in
- 14:50Speaker 3: the postseason, No, that's not the time. In my opinion,
- 14:54Speaker 3: I was. I was totally on board. Even in fact,
- 14:57Speaker 3: I think they could have taken him out one one
- 14:59Speaker 3: battery four work. But it's neither here nor there.
- 15:03Speaker 1: Yeah, to me, watch Bieber Driver and watch Logan Gilbert
- 15:08Speaker 1: because you could have watched him at the same time.
- 15:10Speaker 1: And I'm just using Gilbert as my example right now
- 15:12Speaker 1: for recency. But big difference when you're watching those two
- 15:17Speaker 1: stuff wise swing and miss wise the swings with contact
- 15:21Speaker 1: that we're being made.
- 15:23Speaker 2: Yeah, you gotta you gotta run the game, you know,
- 15:27Speaker 2: by by being the vibe like how hard is the
- 15:29Speaker 2: ball being hit? Is anything being swung? It is? That?
- 15:31Speaker 2: Is that part of that guy's game? What's his what's
- 15:34Speaker 2: his cadence? Like does he look like he's trying to
- 15:36Speaker 2: slow it down because he's something's wrong? Like all this
- 15:38Speaker 2: stuff's coming into uh into play. One thing that's really interesting,
- 15:41Speaker 2: especially about Bieber, Like one thing he is notorious for
- 15:44Speaker 2: is like settling down. And I'm trying to think in
- 15:48Speaker 2: a playoff game, is there a situation where he can
- 15:51Speaker 2: like what if they're down three nothing? Right? If they
- 15:53Speaker 2: quickly score three in the first he doesn't get pulled
- 15:55Speaker 2: and then he throws would maybe he get opportunities if
- 15:58Speaker 2: it's three nothing to give come back to continue to
- 16:00Speaker 2: throw a few more innings because he is literally known
- 16:03Speaker 2: for giving up a little crooked number and then throwing
- 16:05Speaker 2: five quietly throwing five six screls after like that, that
- 16:09Speaker 2: is maybe the only way he continues. I think that
- 16:13Speaker 2: every other situation he's not getting past the fourth because
- 16:16Speaker 2: they had they were locked and loaded in the bullpen
- 16:19Speaker 2: like they were just they're ready to go. Everyone was
- 16:21Speaker 2: ready to go. So like you got to use everybody
- 16:23Speaker 2: to really slam this store on this team and complete
- 16:25Speaker 2: the sweep you don't want to get Like I said,
- 16:27Speaker 2: don't give the Yankees an ench at home. Don't do
- 16:29Speaker 2: it because they'll disappoint you. And that's what they're trying
- 16:34Speaker 2: to do, and it just didn't work. If anything anyway, Yeah, yeah,
- 16:40Speaker 2: same thing.
- 16:41Speaker 3: Aaron Nola can settle in. He can also have one
- 16:43Speaker 3: blow up inning in this moment in this season, even
- 16:49Speaker 3: if he was having a cy young type of season tonight,
- 16:53Speaker 3: facing elimination, he's not able to sell in. He has
- 16:56Speaker 3: got to be perfect, and that's a lot to ask him.
- 17:00Speaker 1: Yeah, but that's how it works. That's why it's very
- 17:02Speaker 1: different from a regular season game. This is elimination game. Sorry,
- 17:06Speaker 1: you don't get the same leash. If they're in a
- 17:08Speaker 1: spot where they think it could cost them the game even.
- 17:11Speaker 4: Close to that, they have to play desperately.
- 17:15Speaker 1: They have to to try and come back in a
- 17:17Speaker 1: spot like this, So I'll see what happens.
- 17:19Speaker 2: Yeah, Nola, he's done it before. He's been perfect, like,
- 17:22Speaker 2: he's been pretty perfect before, so it's within the realm possibility. Yep. Yeah.
- 17:27Speaker 1: I think for Philly ideally gets one nice turn through
- 17:32Speaker 1: the lineup and then as far as swings by to
- 17:36Speaker 1: take on a pocket krats, I gotta look at the lineup,
- 17:39Speaker 1: but take on some pocket.
- 17:42Speaker 4: And then ride it hopefully.
- 17:44Speaker 1: Well no, no, no, I'm saying after that, just saying, they'll
- 17:46Speaker 1: pinpoint a spot maybe where they want to try and
- 17:49Speaker 1: force stock Roberts to make some decisions and.
- 17:52Speaker 4: Then Ranger Swars could go four or five innings.
- 17:55Speaker 2: In this one.
- 17:55Speaker 1: I mean, the bullpen has not been nails for the Phillies, right,
- 18:00Speaker 1: especially the non durant pieces, like they've let them down
- 18:03Speaker 1: for the last couple of years. If I'm rob Thompson
- 18:06Speaker 1: in this spot, and I've got two starters. I mean,
- 18:07Speaker 1: I could draw up a scenario where those guys eat
- 18:10Speaker 1: most of the game up for me.
- 18:13Speaker 3: Starters to Duran, and there's some decent numbers for Ranger
- 18:16Speaker 3: Suarez versus Freddy and Mookie. So that's a that's a
- 18:20Speaker 3: scary you know I'm saying. I'm saying Nola gets through
- 18:24Speaker 3: thirteen batters.
- 18:28Speaker 1: Oh no, that's best case scenario. Okay, yeah, set the
- 18:35Speaker 1: over under for us. What do you think is the
- 18:36Speaker 1: over under app that we need? And Trevor and I
- 18:38Speaker 1: will will play the game.
- 18:41Speaker 3: Alex, I'm not sure, but but batters, I'm setting the
- 18:44Speaker 3: batters at thirteen and a half batters, assuming Freddy's hitting
- 18:52Speaker 3: third tonight.
- 18:55Speaker 1: Okay, over under Trevor, thirteen batters thirteen and a half
- 18:59Speaker 1: batter space for Nola tonight that would.
- 19:02Speaker 2: Take him to I'm assuming too, I'm gonna go under
- 19:08Speaker 2: go under, Okay.
- 19:11Speaker 1: Yeah, I'll take the under two. Pick your poison. Today's
- 19:22Speaker 1: team the Seattle Mariners. I'll introduce Trevor to the segment.
- 19:25Speaker 1: What we're doing is a little carousel around the league
- 19:28Speaker 1: to teams that are still involved in the postseason. Not
- 19:31Speaker 1: focusing in on any of their particular games right now.
- 19:34Speaker 1: We want this thing to last. Okay, if someone sees
- 19:36Speaker 1: this a week from now and the Mariners are still going,
- 19:38Speaker 1: they want to know, why should I be rooting for
- 19:41Speaker 1: Seattle right now?
- 19:42Speaker 4: What stands out? So there is the lack of success.
- 19:47Speaker 1: I'll just throw one easy one and then Trevor lives
- 19:50Speaker 1: in the area, so he'll give you a lot more.
- 19:52Speaker 1: But there is one team that has never made it
- 19:56Speaker 1: to a World Series, not to win a World Series,
- 19:58Speaker 1: obviously they haven't won. But one team that hasn't made
- 20:00Speaker 1: it to a World Series, Trevor, and would you believe that?
- 20:03Speaker 1: It's the Seattle Mariners.
- 20:06Speaker 2: I would believe that. Yes, I am well aware of that.
- 20:09Speaker 2: I mean, we saw there was a guy in tiers
- 20:13Speaker 2: in the in the stands and I was like, why
- 20:15Speaker 2: is that got in tears? They haven't won a home
- 20:16Speaker 2: game in twenty four years. There's been a lot of
- 20:19Speaker 2: people giving their test motus saying yeah, like they haven't
- 20:22Speaker 2: won since I was six and I'm thirty, Like it's
- 20:26Speaker 2: it's been a long time. It's been a long time.
- 20:28Speaker 2: They've never been like, we couldn't we didn't get our
- 20:30Speaker 2: hopes up yet like we had like one time to
- 20:34Speaker 2: the Alcs once I believe in guess guess who we
- 20:36Speaker 2: lost to. And I'm saying we because I grew up
- 20:38Speaker 2: Americas fan the Yankees. So like it's it's it's a
- 20:42Speaker 2: tough time. It's a tough place to be a baseball fan.
- 20:44Speaker 2: It's not necessarily a baseball hotbed one because it rains
- 20:47Speaker 2: nine once of the year up here. So we need this.
- 20:49Speaker 2: We need this. It's been a while and this team
- 20:52Speaker 2: is one of the most complete teams we've had as
- 20:55Speaker 2: far as I can remember. Like, good guys, the guy
- 20:58Speaker 2: middle lineup, the studs are are being the studs. The
- 21:01Speaker 2: pitching is the pitching. The bullpen has been great. Like
- 21:04Speaker 2: I mean, they're well poisoned, they've never been there. One
- 21:07Speaker 2: interesting thing that I think that my people at home
- 21:09Speaker 2: might find interesting that if they're able to match up
- 21:12Speaker 2: against another team, say they do move on, say they
- 21:14Speaker 2: do end up making the World Series and they get
- 21:16Speaker 2: to match up against the Brewers. Right, the Brewers also
- 21:19Speaker 2: have never won a World Series, So first of all,
- 21:22Speaker 2: we would get a winner that we'd never had before.
- 21:25Speaker 2: And two, the Brewers were originally the Seattle pilots who
- 21:28Speaker 2: were only here for from seventy to seventy one and
- 21:30Speaker 2: then moved over to Milwaukee. That's why they have the
- 21:32Speaker 2: same color scheme as the Mariners Old schools. So it
- 21:36Speaker 2: would be it would be a World Series between two
- 21:38Speaker 2: teams that started in Seattle, which I think would be
- 21:41Speaker 2: also pretty interesting and just a very Steri Lings type
- 21:44Speaker 2: of type of Tim Kirchin type of fact there. So
- 21:49Speaker 2: I mean, sometimes you just want to see a team
- 21:51Speaker 2: that's never done it before do it. I don't know,
- 21:53Speaker 2: that's fun for me.
- 21:54Speaker 1: Yeah, I agree. I mean that's the pilot series. We'll
- 21:57Speaker 1: term it here before it happens, if it happens, but
- 22:01Speaker 1: that is the way that they'll market it.
- 22:03Speaker 4: It's a good story.
- 22:04Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 22:04Speaker 1: I mean for some fans, scrats, they feel bad for
- 22:07Speaker 1: fan bases if they have not experienced winning a World Series.
- 22:10Speaker 1: So maybe you're a fan of a team that's won
- 22:12Speaker 1: a World Series ever, and you're like, I would love
- 22:15Speaker 1: this fan base, which is a good fan base.
- 22:17Speaker 4: They have a good.
- 22:18Speaker 1: Ballpark, and they'll pack that ballpark when they get a
- 22:21Speaker 1: product that is worth packing the ballpark for.
- 22:24Speaker 4: This is a place that you can root.
- 22:26Speaker 3: For, adopt this team, adopt and Seattle. Well, everyone talks
- 22:30Speaker 3: about it raining all the time. Dude, it's so nice.
- 22:34Speaker 3: You're gonna go to an outdoor game and the roof
- 22:37Speaker 3: is going to be closed and you won't get rained on.
- 22:39Speaker 3: It's tremendous. Like everything about being a Seattle Mariners fan
- 22:43Speaker 3: for the next month is gonna suck you in. The
- 22:48Speaker 3: biggest reason I'm going to suck you in to be
- 22:50Speaker 3: a Mariners fan you get to get a jersey that's
- 22:53Speaker 3: this Big Dumper on it. Like, you get to get
- 22:55Speaker 3: the guy who everything is going right. You're going to
- 22:59Speaker 3: join a team that you get to cheer for Big Dumper,
- 23:02Speaker 3: who has done everything this year. There's no way he's
- 23:07Speaker 3: going to allow his team to lose. So you might
- 23:10Speaker 3: as well hop on the train and enjoy the ride.
- 23:14Speaker 3: Because I loved going out to Seattle. I love watching
- 23:18Speaker 3: Big Dumper hit. They have Julio Rodriguez who is a
- 23:21Speaker 3: superstar slash maybe an All Star, and they play with
- 23:26Speaker 3: so much energy and excitement with Josh Naylor at first base.
- 23:30Speaker 3: Like this team has to me. They have the grint
- 23:34Speaker 3: to make it all the way. But as a fan,
- 23:37Speaker 3: you can't not get behind this team, like they're all
- 23:40Speaker 3: a bunch of dudes where you're like, yeah, we got.
- 23:43Speaker 1: This, and I'm going to go here, trevorck because we
- 23:46Speaker 1: haven't brought it up in a while. But the fan
- 23:49Speaker 1: frustration index was sky high for the Mariners not long ago. Okay,
- 23:55Speaker 1: you had been waiting for a winning window. They went
- 23:57Speaker 1: through a rebuild. They built up a stud starting staff,
- 24:02Speaker 1: a really good farm system, and not much offense until
- 24:05Speaker 1: this year. This year they not only figured it out
- 24:08Speaker 1: and their stars were stars like Julio Rodriguez, cal Raley
- 24:12Speaker 1: did things that nobody ever could have dreamed of really
- 24:15Speaker 1: from a catcher in general. But then on top of that,
- 24:17Speaker 1: they add Naylor at the deadline, a Hennio Suarez at
- 24:20Speaker 1: the deadline. This is a team that a couple of
- 24:22Speaker 1: years ago had the famous line about just trying to
- 24:25Speaker 1: get by fifty four percent of the time and things
- 24:28Speaker 1: hopefully will go our way. So this is a long
- 24:31Speaker 1: waist from that to actually prove to your fan base
- 24:34Speaker 1: that you give a crap because there have been significant
- 24:37Speaker 1: issues there. It starts at the tippy top. Ownership didn't
- 24:40Speaker 1: do what they said they were going to do initially
- 24:42Speaker 1: in terms of spending, but Jerry Depoto with his trades,
- 24:46Speaker 1: has saved the day at the deadline to give them
- 24:49Speaker 1: a complete lineup, So I think it's worth rooting for
- 24:51Speaker 1: that as well. That is frustrated as you are right
- 24:54Speaker 1: now as a fan of a team that's not in it,
- 24:56Speaker 1: or maybe a fan that's barely ever in it pirates.
- 25:00Speaker 4: Maybe things can turn around.
- 25:03Speaker 2: Yep.
- 25:05Speaker 1: I love just worth bringing that up, wanting to throw
- 25:07Speaker 1: that out there. So anyway, if you want to root
- 25:08Speaker 1: for the Mariners, hope we convinced you. If not, then
- 25:11Speaker 1: you can check out one of our other videos where
- 25:13Speaker 1: we tell you why you should work for a team
- 25:15Speaker 1: A blank
