- 0:11[SPEAKER_00]: Now, here's your host, Chris, Alf, and Simon.
- 0:17[SPEAKER_02]: And we're on, and this is Three Yards Perkati.
- 0:20[SPEAKER_02]: I'm afraid of our T.I.G.
- 0:21[SPEAKER_02]: at Simon Clancy is back.
- 0:23[SPEAKER_02]: Chris Kaufman is back for the second week in a row.
- 0:26[SPEAKER_02]: So you've finally got all three of us together for the first time in two months.
- 0:32[SPEAKER_02]: So I'll bring in Simon first here.
- 0:34[SPEAKER_02]: Simon, are you happy to see us again?
- 0:37[SPEAKER_01]: No.
- 0:40[SPEAKER_02]: Did you enjoy the World Cup at least?
- 0:41[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, you're both wearing the same hat which is really, I'm just being ready.
- 0:45[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, it's like a uniform.
- 0:48[SPEAKER_01]: Why is Chris in the dog?
- 0:51[SPEAKER_03]: And I don't know, I wish this room is lit up, I swear.
- 0:54[SPEAKER_01]: It's very old, it's very unhappy.
- 0:59[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, if you enjoy the world cup, that's an addition of time off.
- 1:03[SPEAKER_01]: Don't judge the world cup.
- 1:04[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, it was all right.
- 1:06[SPEAKER_01]: It wasn't a classic, but it was all right.
- 1:08[SPEAKER_02]: So yeah, the final was a snoozer, although the semi finals were fun.
- 1:14[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I mean,
- 1:16[SPEAKER_01]: I didn't find the silly files particularly.
- 1:19[SPEAKER_02]: No, there was an obvious reason why it wasn't.
- 1:23[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, it was, yeah, it was, having football soccer as you wear those call it every day.
- 1:31[SPEAKER_01]: For a 40 day, this is an absolute win.
- 1:34[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I'm now lonely without it.
- 1:38[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, it was a lot of fun.
- 1:39[SPEAKER_02]: Like it's hopefully made a lot of fans.
- 1:42[SPEAKER_02]: It was a lot of fun waking up every single day and watching four games every single day.
- 1:47[SPEAKER_02]: And as a little down, we're getting one game a day.
- 1:49[SPEAKER_02]: And you know, it kept, you know, you had that foreboding feeling like it's leaving some.
- 1:55[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, when you get out of the group stages and all the day and three and four games that they start, that's when it gets out of say.
- 2:01[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
- 2:02[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
- 2:02[SPEAKER_01]: It's weird.
- 2:03[SPEAKER_03]: There was a lot of trouble.
- 2:04[SPEAKER_03]: The friends that we made along the way.
- 2:06[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, no.
- 2:06[SPEAKER_01]: The lights have come on.
- 2:09[SPEAKER_03]: They like it.
- 2:12[SPEAKER_02]: And all the drama.
- 2:14[SPEAKER_02]: It was a lot of fun.
- 2:15[SPEAKER_02]: I really, the final really was a kind of a let down, because I just didn't look like they belonged on the same pitch.
- 2:24[SPEAKER_01]: Not with the final negative boss.
- 2:27[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, but anyway, we're going on to our football American football and training camp is I've been counting down every time you've heard me on one of these shows It's five days away.
- 2:39[SPEAKER_02]: Now some of the rookies are already there But the vets are gonna be there in five days and they report in five days.
- 2:46[SPEAKER_02]: I report in five days So you will get my camperports daily from Tuesday on
- 2:55[SPEAKER_02]: What are you looking forward to most some before we get into some of the news of the day?
- 3:01[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, I just think kind of everything coming together, really, I mean, you know, getting to see the team, you know, there's an awful lot of roster spots open.
- 3:13[SPEAKER_01]: You know, the rookie, I think we all generally like the rookie class, so getting to see some of those guys as well.
- 3:18[SPEAKER_01]: And really the maturation of the Milly Gullis and how the scheme,
- 3:23[SPEAKER_01]: begins to unfold both offensively and defensively, especially at the kind of that double-headed sort of Sean Duggen, Jeff Haffley, thing going on.
- 3:32[SPEAKER_01]: But yeah, I mean, look, it's good to get the guys back on the field, good to get, good to get out there and kind of get a sense of exactly what this roster is going to be, you know, I think we're all pretty clear that it's not going to be a fantastic season.
- 3:45[SPEAKER_01]: So yeah, you know, seeing who's going to be into the long haul and who's going to be replaced by pretty high draft picks next year, but, you know, hope all the springs return, we'll see what happens.
- 3:57[SPEAKER_02]: Chris, we talked about it last week on the show that I don't know if we got a consensus on this, were we going to hold Jeff halfway to that total number or not?
- 4:08[SPEAKER_02]: I don't know if we if we got an agreement on that.
- 4:12[SPEAKER_03]: Well, I mean, my general is, you know, if it's, if it's set as low as it is, then beat it, you know, four and half ones, something like that, I'm going to go out there and beat it.
- 4:24[SPEAKER_03]: It's, uh, I know that at the challenging roster and there's the positions on that roster that are, um, on paper dreadfully bad.
- 4:35[SPEAKER_03]: Like, yes, just worse than the kind of bad.
- 4:39[SPEAKER_03]: Um, and important positions too, uh, like wider silver and corner.
- 4:44[SPEAKER_03]: Um, so, you know, yeah, you do have, they say the chain is only as a star as this weakest link, and that's what those are pretty pretty links.
- 4:55[SPEAKER_03]: Um, so if they don't get there, then, you know, no big, you know, it's understandable certainly, but at the same time,
- 5:05[SPEAKER_03]: Listen that, you know, Brian Flores, one how many in 2019, you know, with the tanker and, you know, I think that I think that it's not in reasonable to say, they usually don't set the over under that love four and a half it's not unreasonable to say, you know, hey, as a challenge go out and beat it and maybe that's his mind set, but we all know that you beat it, you don't beat it like,
- 5:33[SPEAKER_03]: What does it mean that we're holding him to the standard what we're going to because they won three games that the coach of this coaching staff is crap and we need to replace them again?
- 5:45[SPEAKER_03]: That's not reality.
- 5:47[SPEAKER_03]: So, you know, but I do think that it's a, that it's an okay challenge for him to try and beat that and even to say, you know, if he's as good, if they are as good, collectively, as a coaching staff,
- 6:02[SPEAKER_03]: as we hope, then yeah, beat it.
- 6:06[SPEAKER_02]: You think we'll be in a little bit of fair here, Simon, considering the state of the roster, because the one upside I do see is depth-wise.
- 6:16[SPEAKER_02]: And you will be able to hear it clearly.
- 6:19[SPEAKER_02]: Like what I see that kind of is in the Dolphins favor is that you would be replacing as far as depth-wise, you'd be replacing mediocre to bad players with other mediocre to bad players.
- 6:30[SPEAKER_02]: So the drop-off wouldn't be giant.
- 6:33[SPEAKER_02]: Is it unfair to say, hey, go and beat that four and a half number, go get five wins this season and that'll get us really jazzed for twenty twenty seven.
- 6:42[SPEAKER_02]: Is it a bit unfair with this roster?
- 6:44[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, I think the roster's really bad.
- 6:46[SPEAKER_02]: Yes.
- 6:47[SPEAKER_01]: We're going to be honest.
- 6:47[SPEAKER_01]: And I don't see more than three wins and potentially less than that.
- 6:55[SPEAKER_01]: And those wins you're looking at a fairly well-rebuilt New York jet side to get potentially two of them.
- 7:03[SPEAKER_01]: And he might catch the raiders off guard in the season opener.
- 7:07[SPEAKER_01]: But as Chris alluded to,
- 7:11[SPEAKER_01]: you know, a dust bowl in terms of the positive talent there, corners, you know, or defensive backside, you know, I think the Chris Marsh, the Chris Johnson experiment is the wrong word, but the Chris Johnson introduction in many count was good.
- 7:30[SPEAKER_01]: I think, you know, I've heard from a couple of people on the inside who said that they were, you know, everybody thought that Chris Johnson looked like the guy they hoped he would be and more.
- 7:39[SPEAKER_01]: And you hold out some hope for Dante Trader, you know, where they can fill that sort of everyone Williams role, but you know, athleticism is not his thing.
- 7:46[SPEAKER_01]: And then who's going to step up, you know, Juju Brents, you know, there's a reason why he's on the Dolphins, he got hurt last season, and he just got just dies, you know, and obviously you get the news to do that down a baker and stormed duck around and, you know, going on the partner, it's just like where, where,
- 8:02[SPEAKER_01]: where are these players coming from?
- 8:03[SPEAKER_01]: Where's the past rush kind of on?
- 8:04[SPEAKER_01]: You know, there's obviously good players on the roster when you look at, you know, certainly the three guys every side, you know, you hope that Jacob Rodriguez plays and plays early, that I think the running map room is okay, but yeah.
- 8:18[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, look at, I think assigning wind totals at this stage is difficult, you know, you could have done this, the Carolina Panthers podcast 24 hours ago, but like,
- 8:30[SPEAKER_01]: the lineback of Great Rooks really good in the next school and tasers ACL on the third player training camp and you're like, well, okay, we just don't know what's going to happen, but from the outside looking in Chris I and the offensive line looks great and then yeah, you're going to
- 8:51[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, yeah, the only problem with the dolphins offence of land is that they're one injury away from catastrophe.
- 8:57[SPEAKER_01]: And they're a massive injury.
- 8:58[SPEAKER_01]: They're one player specifically, Austin Jackson, I think, away from a really big catastrophe, because then at that point it's like, well, okay, we're talking about cross-training proctor at tackle, but really, they're playing a guard, but if Jackson goes down, do we kick the tackle, the first round tackle out there, and moving away from what we've been trying to get into the guard,
- 9:21[SPEAKER_01]: Charlie Heck is going to be the blinds I protect the Malik with this or you know and all of a sudden things can go to it's not pretty quickly if Jackson Aziz won't get hurt early and or often this season.
- 9:37[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah and we did get some news in that regard and we'll talk about the news of the day in the second half.
- 9:43[SPEAKER_02]: By the way, I was basically this week old when I learned that
- 9:53[SPEAKER_02]: Did you know that Simon?
- 9:54[SPEAKER_01]: I didn't know.
- 9:55[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, he is not.
- 9:58[SPEAKER_02]: I just assumed that he was, but I didn't even know there was a guy named.
- 10:02[SPEAKER_01]: No, I didn't until I saw it today, sir.
- 10:04[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, Jake Plummer is not his father.
- 10:07[SPEAKER_02]: So Jake the snake plummer is not Jack Plummer's father.
- 10:12[SPEAKER_02]: He's signed with the dolphins today, which, you know, points to someone certainly as far as what the quarterback room
- 10:20[SPEAKER_02]: Or if Quinnewa is just going to get challenged, we got some quiet news last week, Chris Bell is going to show he's going to show up on some of these lists, which kind of for boats that may be training camp is, you know, they're going to put on training camp for Chris Bell.
- 10:38[SPEAKER_02]: Is it a failure if Chris Bell does not suit up in training camp because if he doesn't suit up in training camp, that means he's not contributing as a rookie in the NFL.
- 10:50[SPEAKER_01]: who really thought he was going to contribute.
- 10:52[SPEAKER_01]: Like, he tore his ACL on like November the 21st.
- 10:56[SPEAKER_01]: Like, let's be serious.
- 10:58[SPEAKER_01]: And you know, regardless of the great answers and medical recovery and technology and those sorts of things, it's not realistic to think that a guy of his size and his physicality is going to come back and be a contributor.
- 11:11[SPEAKER_01]: You know, you might get him in games towards the back end of the season, but,
- 11:14[SPEAKER_01]: I think the team has got to be looking at putting this away as a as a mother.
- 11:18[SPEAKER_01]: And yeah, it's always been that you're just getting a guy on the roster who can you get in the building, you can soak up the playbook and you can just think that when he's healthy is unbelievable size profile is going to help get you over the line when you need it, but.
- 11:33[SPEAKER_01]: I just don't think that, and I certainly don't think it's a failure that he, you know, don't forget towards ACLM November 21st, and I think you, you know, you really asked great in the Baltimore bow and if you're thinking that this is the guy that's going to save you, given the injury history, Chris.
- 11:51[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, I think that there's a difference between like, hey, what I'd be absolutely shocked.
- 11:56[SPEAKER_03]: He made some sort of miraculous.
- 11:59[SPEAKER_03]: recovery and time to actually play this year and and make an impact now because these are physical freaks and some those guys kind of find a way sometimes to come back from those injuries they're the ones that you always always ahead of schedule you know that kind of things so I wouldn't be shocked but certainly no expectations and the problems have signaled that from
- 12:30[SPEAKER_03]: interviews has said, you know, we're not really expecting anything.
- 12:33[SPEAKER_03]: We're going to, we're going to slow play that one a lot, you know, because we're being very careful with them.
- 12:39[SPEAKER_03]: And they ought to, you know, they, they knew that that was, was a pick.
- 12:43[SPEAKER_03]: It was our luxury pick, right?
- 12:46[SPEAKER_03]: It was kind of an extra pick at the end of the third round.
- 12:49[SPEAKER_03]: And, and I think they took it as a luxury pick for the future, not for the present.
- 12:55[SPEAKER_03]: And, and so failure if he doesn't certainly, if he doesn't,
- 13:00[SPEAKER_03]: practice and training camp.
- 13:01[SPEAKER_03]: That doesn't mean anything.
- 13:02[SPEAKER_03]: You know, if he doesn't plan to snap all year, then you could maybe be like, ah, you know, I wish you would have, but you know, that's, that's, that's reality though.
- 13:14[SPEAKER_03]: You know, he tore his lead tore his ACL late in late in last year.
- 13:18[SPEAKER_03]: So, um, now it's not not any kind of, you're not any kind of disappointment.
- 13:22[SPEAKER_03]: Um, but on the other hand, I wouldn't be terribly shocked if he came back, um, a lot of you would expect just because of its physical prowess.
- 13:32[SPEAKER_01]: All right.
- 13:32[SPEAKER_02]: We're going to go to break when we come back.
- 13:34[SPEAKER_02]: We will talk about that news of the week, which is Jordan Brooks's extension, and the roster building that Jenna Rick Sullivan is doing, but first, these words.
- 13:43[SPEAKER_02]: And we're back.
- 13:44[SPEAKER_02]: Let's start there, Simon.
- 13:45[SPEAKER_02]: You wrote something for Dolphin's talk on Jordan Brooks.
- 13:49[SPEAKER_02]: And you talk about the three positions that they kind of locked guys up on.
- 13:53[SPEAKER_02]: Running back, you know, you know how I feel about running back and for the guy, if a guy's going to touch the ball 20 times again, I think he's important and I don't necessarily buy What was the conventional wisdom of two or three years ago, which was that running back ston't matter because I tend to think that they do now at least it's evolving that way center And now I'm backer who is going to play Mike is going to play scraper he's very versatile he's a very very good player
- 14:23[SPEAKER_02]: Jordan books.
- 14:23[SPEAKER_02]: They got all three done.
- 14:25[SPEAKER_02]: What do you think of John Erick Sullivan's very quick and tidy work as far as the roster goes this off season so far Simon.
- 14:35[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, look, I started to screw you on the on the positions, you know, historically you've got those four kind of heavyweight spots, which I've got about left tackle, corner and and a dresser, but I think that, you know, giving money to this trio is an a typical way to start a rebuild, but actually, you know, there's nothing wrong with just finding good players to good deals, which is what they've done, and you know, I think
- 15:03[SPEAKER_01]: men's Sullivan for is that he has been utterly intentional about everything that he said almost in every single interview that he's given since he took over or every single press conference or whatever, you know, that intentionality of a new front office.
- 15:19[SPEAKER_01]: They delivered what they said they were going to deliver on from their very first press conference and made your availability up until
- 15:27[SPEAKER_01]: The last one, they came out and said, we're going to do the X.
- 15:30[SPEAKER_01]: We're going to get a call back.
- 15:31[SPEAKER_01]: We're going to try and sign the guys, we're going to do the draft.
- 15:36[SPEAKER_01]: But also stuff that hasn't even happened yet, but you know is going to happen.
- 15:39[SPEAKER_01]: Thoughts, so for example, retaining our own good players.
- 15:44[SPEAKER_01]: And it is the Green Bay Way.
- 15:46[SPEAKER_01]: And people hate the fact that we talk about Green Bay but this is the history.
- 15:50[SPEAKER_01]: And they will absolutely be looking to retain the players
- 15:57[SPEAKER_01]: bringing in, you know, free agents, necessarily, or trade guys, yes, the Packers, obviously, of historically traded for a couple of players, or pick play as I can free agency, Reggie White and Michael Parsons, obviously, feel both of those camps.
- 16:10[SPEAKER_01]: But, you know,
- 16:12[SPEAKER_01]: as as Sullivan told our friend Travis Winfield, you know, like our in-house interview, he said we're going to draft and develop and retain our own.
- 16:20[SPEAKER_01]: It's important to us that we raise our own because that's the culture.
- 16:23[SPEAKER_01]: And also, it's just the best way of doing it.
- 16:25[SPEAKER_01]: You get these guys in the building for years and understand what it means, what it takes, what the responsibilities are on and off the field.
- 16:33[SPEAKER_01]: So yeah, look, I think they're solid deals for good players, but, you know,
- 16:38[SPEAKER_01]: these are not cornerstone positions and the dolphins need to find cornerstone positions.
- 16:43[SPEAKER_01]: Now, I think we all think Malik Willis might well be a cornerstone quarterback.
- 16:49[SPEAKER_01]: We feel like Patrick Paul is probably going to be the next cab off the ranking terms as somebody who gets paid.
- 16:54[SPEAKER_01]: Chris Johnson we talked about earlier on, and then we have the address of Russia situation which really is a bit of a mess and you know you hope and talk about it and there's a pretty significant bounce back but that's a big question mark.
- 17:07[SPEAKER_01]: But you know if the dolphins can find you know can get Johnson going that pool can take that next step up into that kind of second-tier top table of tackles and willys can develop.
- 17:20[SPEAKER_01]: Anything you get from short Robinson at that point then becomes a bonus because you're nailing three of those four positions.
- 17:25[SPEAKER_01]: Oh and you've also got ugly the best centre and a top five running back and you know a really good off-ball lineback or be it one that's going to be 29 and October.
- 17:35[SPEAKER_01]: So just good players Chris and you know you can't have enough good players if you want to win football games in the NFL.
- 17:45[SPEAKER_03]: I think it's more looking at the, um, take a lesson from looking at the people that they gave me to and they're, um, the personalities, uh, and leadership that they're, they're giving me to, um, and that they're kind of, you know,
- 18:04[SPEAKER_03]: if you look at the top of dollar structure, even going back at Briace, so you have to count Malak Willis.
- 18:11[SPEAKER_03]: I'm sorry, he's making what, like 20 million years, I'm like that, like, that's a big kind of on-age and it's a big contract.
- 18:19[SPEAKER_03]: Aaron Burr is a big contract.
- 18:22[SPEAKER_03]: Jordan Brooks now is a big contract.
- 18:26[SPEAKER_03]: You're looking at these players and you're kind of like patting, patterning,
- 18:31[SPEAKER_03]: who they're trying to pull and who they're trying that position and, you know, kind of the the big cheese because they are the highly paid players.
- 18:47[SPEAKER_03]: I think it matters, it matters, you know, who is at the top, being the tone for the rest of the roster and those are guys that, you know,
- 19:00[SPEAKER_03]: I re-kill was, you know, it's not one of those types.
- 19:06[SPEAKER_03]: It's not some of the other guys that you see around the league who, you know, very talented, but, you know, kind of a little bit of a headache or anything like that.
- 19:15[SPEAKER_03]: I think they're starting off way, and I'll say this about the non-traditional positions.
- 19:19[SPEAKER_03]: I don't mind that as much, because I actually think that it's sometimes easier to keep those long-term contracts that they actually complete.
- 19:29[SPEAKER_03]: Um, because the guys that that are playing premier positions who are also premier players at Anding those premier kind
- 19:40[SPEAKER_03]: Um, if they play a position, whether they deserve them or not, you know, whether they, they truly, truly, they're way into a top in the NFL type of contract at that position.
- 19:54[SPEAKER_03]: It just seems like because it's a premier position and because you have a player there, you're almost stuck like you have to pay them.
- 20:03[SPEAKER_03]: because the consequences of having to start over at a premiere, because our really not very pleasant.
- 20:15[SPEAKER_03]: So I don't mind paying those guys that you know are going to give above average kind of not far above average contributions at an issue for a number of years, because they're gonna be around for probably,
- 20:33[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, you're breaking up.
- 20:34[SPEAKER_03]: So, um, I think it's, uh, I think it's interesting, but I think it's a valuable.
- 20:39[SPEAKER_03]: I also, uh, sorry.
- 20:41[SPEAKER_03]: All right.
- 20:41[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, you're breaking up.
- 20:43[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, I'm here.
- 20:44[SPEAKER_02]: You know, yeah, but you were breaking up there, significantly there.
- 20:47[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, go ahead.
- 20:48[SPEAKER_03]: You want me to leave them back?
- 20:50[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, get out and come back and you want me to leave them come back or go?
- 20:54[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, yeah.
- 20:56[SPEAKER_02]: Yes, Simon.
- 20:58[SPEAKER_02]: One guy I can ask you about Jacob Rodriguez.
- 21:02[SPEAKER_02]: It was reported that he wasn't, you know, he wasn't cracking a lot of snaps in in OTAs and it looked like it was, you know, just we were right back to where we were last year with Dodson and Brooks, manning those two spots on the defense,
- 21:20[SPEAKER_02]: Jacob Rodriguez is a guy that you're actually, he's on a clock, right?
- 21:23[SPEAKER_02]: Like he has to supplant Tyrell Dodson to justify where he was drafted, right?
- 21:28[SPEAKER_02]: Because he was drafted to play.
- 21:30[SPEAKER_02]: He's not a guy that can just ride the pine for entire season or be a specialist.
- 21:36[SPEAKER_01]: I don't, I don't think you're going to be happy about it.
- 21:38[SPEAKER_01]: I don't think I'll ever ride the pine for an entire season, but I also don't think unless something happens to Dodson, I don't think you'll start week one.
- 21:46[SPEAKER_01]: You know, I think he's gonna be ready when he's ready.
- 21:49[SPEAKER_01]: You know, it's not like the Dolphins are on this mad, soup ball run now, you know, if he starts playing, you know,
- 21:56[SPEAKER_01]: half the slaps by midseason.
- 21:58[SPEAKER_01]: I think that's absolutely fine.
- 22:00[SPEAKER_01]: You don't want him just on the bench and just playing special teams and I don't think that will be the case, but I also just don't think he's going to come in and you know, supplant a guy who's
- 22:08[SPEAKER_01]: You know, 28 years old, who's, you know, got 400 NFL tackles has been in the lead for eight seasons and has been the green dot guy of the team, you know, in fact, he's been the green dot guy on multiple teams.
- 22:23[SPEAKER_01]: So I, you know, I don't think that holding players to expectations that they can't automatically meet straight away is necessary that the way for and I don't think it'll be seen as that by Jeff Haffley he'll be ready when Haffley says he's ready.
- 22:38[SPEAKER_01]: but I think if Roger is for me, Rodrigues think healthy is the most important thing.
- 22:42[SPEAKER_01]: If you can do that and I think you'll be able to, you know, I think you'll be on the field a lot, but I don't automatically just think it's a failure.
- 22:50[SPEAKER_01]: If he hasn't beaten Tyler, does that by week three, for example.
- 22:53[SPEAKER_03]: So Chris.
- 22:55[SPEAKER_03]: I think Kyle Lewis is going to play.
- 22:58[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
- 22:59[SPEAKER_03]: Quickly more quickly.
- 23:00[SPEAKER_03]: Quickly.
- 23:01[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 23:02[SPEAKER_01]: We'll play more than Rodrigues earlier and I think.
- 23:05[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, early on because he has a more defined role in winning, I think Jacob Rodriguez, I do look forward to playing and might not be in the last way through the year when, you know, everybody starts to all right, let's get some young guys a little bit more snaps and it's it's less about.
- 23:25[SPEAKER_03]: It's less about putting the absolute best guy on the field and more about, you know, hey, let's, let's start rotating some guys in and get them some experience.
- 23:35[SPEAKER_03]: Do you all know that you reach a point like that sometime in the year, especially when you're losing a lot, you know, you're losing a lot of games.
- 23:43[SPEAKER_03]: Um, we've been around the block.
- 23:45[SPEAKER_03]: We know that that happened.
- 23:47[SPEAKER_03]: So do I expect that Jacob Rodriguez will start end up starting probably upwards of six games this year.
- 23:54[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, or more.
- 23:56[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, actually I do I do expect that, but it's not again, it's not a matter of disappointment.
- 24:05[SPEAKER_03]: I'm more, you know,
- 24:07[SPEAKER_03]: I am equally interested in Kyle Lewis and what he does initially in that sort of that big nickel role where he's going to play a lot of, you know, apex kind of overhang in the slot somewhere between a slot defensive back and a linebacker.
- 24:29[SPEAKER_03]: It's going to be an interesting, uh, interesting season for him, uh, especially since he's probably going to get thrust into that right away.
- 24:33[SPEAKER_03]: And right away has a rookie or like, well, your, your head should be spinning, but, um, but it, you know, I'll, I'll, I'll, I'll, I'll, I'll, I'll, I'll, I'll, I'll, I'll, I'll, I'll, I'll, I'll, I'll, I'll, I'll, I'll, I'll, I'll, I'll, I'll, I'll, I'll, I'll, I'll, I'll, I'll, I'll, I'll, I'll, I'll, I'll, I'll, I'll, I'll, I'll, I'll, I'll, I'll, I'll, I'll, I'll, I'll, I'll, I'll, I'll, I'll, I'll, I'll, I'll, I'll, I'll
- 24:45[SPEAKER_03]: I'm looking forward to Jacob Rodriguez because of all the players that we drafted and maybe even including Caden Brockder, I think he's got the highest ceiling at his position.
- 24:56[SPEAKER_03]: I think that he could be the guy a premier player in this league actually.
- 25:04[SPEAKER_03]: And you know, there are other guys in this draft class that have the ability to do that.
- 25:10[SPEAKER_03]: Um, I think that Jacob Rodriguez not only has the ability, the ability of it, but the history of it, you know, and so I think that that's um, that's an interesting, uh, one to watch.
- 25:21[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, Chris speculated earlier when Taylor Motone got injured that maybe Austin Jackson could be on the block and the dolphins could gain a draft pick there.
- 25:34[SPEAKER_02]: I had to go back to a term that was used during the COVID era, but
- 25:38[SPEAKER_02]: Remember, non-essential personnel.
- 25:40[SPEAKER_02]: I will look at this team as having some non-essential personnel for what I will consider the 2027 season.
- 25:46[SPEAKER_02]: We're going to have a little bit more cap space, a lot more draft picks, and some of these guys are going to be a little bit more seasoned.
- 25:52[SPEAKER_02]: Guys that.
- 25:54[SPEAKER_02]: we don't necessarily are looking forward to relying on for 2027.
- 26:00[SPEAKER_02]: Are you, would you be careful Simon on how you strip down some of those players, like a Zack Sealer or or an Austin Jackson, for example, or you just don't mind, like just if you could monetize them at the deadline you do it, regardless.
- 26:19[SPEAKER_01]: Ah, look, I think you've got to take each one on an individual basis out, you know, you've got to ask yourself, is this person going to help me?
- 26:27[SPEAKER_01]: I think we all agree that the Dolphins aren't going to be very good this year.
- 26:30[SPEAKER_01]: They're probably going to be the other next year.
- 26:32[SPEAKER_01]: And then it's the year after, you know, so at what point does does 30, you know,
- 26:44[SPEAKER_01]: So at what point is 31-year-olds, saxy to help you for 2028, you know?
- 26:48[SPEAKER_01]: And does it mean that if you get a fifth round peak at the deadline for a Baltimore, for example, or a sixth round peak from Baltimore, is that actually something that you could use more than a zaxyler?
- 27:01[SPEAKER_01]: We're a team that's, you know, mainly when two or three games, when you've also got, you know, Z-biggers and Kenneth Grant and Jordan Phillips, you know, all those guys coming through.
- 27:13[SPEAKER_01]: So I think it's just got to be done on a kind of case-by-case basis, but at some point you can't keep just giving good players away.
- 27:20[SPEAKER_01]: You have to make sure they're getting stuff in return for them that isn't just, you know, adversaries, seventh round, or, you know, or worse.
- 27:31[SPEAKER_01]: So I think everything will be done.
- 27:35[SPEAKER_01]: like I said on a case-by-case basis, but also look, there aren't that many players that you can give away for draft picks anyway, like if we're going to be serious, like realistically of the of the older guys, the veteran guys, we've already with recent books.
- 27:53[SPEAKER_01]: Terrell Dodson, a 7th round pick, maybe a Terrell Dodson, be on that?
- 27:59[SPEAKER_02]: That's what maybe?
- 28:01[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I've got to play a swap for somebody
- 28:05[SPEAKER_01]: Beyond that, I don't really see players where you're just, you know, teams are going to be lining up to take Charlie Heck off you or, you know.
- 28:16[SPEAKER_01]: When you are, or Anthony Hankerson, it's just like, you know, on that many players that, you know, I don't hear the phone ringing for Jackson Woodard, particularly hard for, you know, mid-round peak.
- 28:29[SPEAKER_01]: So, yeah, I think we just got to be realistic with what there is on the roster and know that, you know, I think the right decisions all were made because it feels like the right decisions have been made since we began this process with the new fund office.
- 28:42[SPEAKER_03]: I think the key there, just I think the key there with the guys like that is you have to keep in mind that all this kind of thing happens and it's due time.
- 28:54[SPEAKER_03]: Because you know, have low expectations of this team right now, but they're going to want to find out, right?
- 29:01[SPEAKER_03]: You know, like listen, we've seen teams that are projected to be like literally the worse than league.
- 29:10[SPEAKER_03]: Like we we we have seen that happen like we have seen teams that are projected to win three games four games maybe five games and just they're end up in the playoffs, you know, are they end up even better than that like it's you have to see you can't conclude.
- 29:28[SPEAKER_03]: before it even starts, you know.
- 29:31[SPEAKER_03]: So when it comes to trading and Austin Jack and when it comes to trading as Acceler, you brought up another one in Tyrell Dots and at some point, you know, the future could be now with Jacob Rodriguez, you know, as we were talking about before.
- 29:45[SPEAKER_03]: It's all in stew time.
- 29:47[SPEAKER_03]: They're going to go through the season.
- 29:50[SPEAKER_03]: They're going to see how they are.
- 29:52[SPEAKER_03]: They're going to see, you know, are we one in five are we or are we foreign to you know, like somehow did did, you know,
- 30:02[SPEAKER_03]: things just fall in a place somehow.
- 30:04[SPEAKER_03]: They're going to find out because they intend to compete, you know, they don't go out there to not compete.
- 30:09[SPEAKER_03]: They don't intend to go out there to lose games, they're going out there to compete.
- 30:12[SPEAKER_03]: So as the season wears on, what I'd be surprised by trading Austin Jackson to a, you know, a Carolina team that yes, they did take Monroe Freeling and
- 30:25[SPEAKER_03]: Yes, they have to some degree planned for for some of the issues they're having on the offensive line, but also they're clearly suffering issues anyway.
- 30:36[SPEAKER_03]: And so no, I wouldn't be surprised by that wouldn't be surprised if Zach Sealer somewhere down the road, you know, you're staring at a one in five record or whatever.
- 30:45[SPEAKER_03]: And it's not about the draft pick.
- 30:47[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, you give a fifth or sixth round pick form.
- 30:51[SPEAKER_03]: I don't think they really particularly care about that.
- 30:53[SPEAKER_03]: I think they want to re-home him with a winner.
- 30:57[SPEAKER_03]: You know, they're going to look to say, OK, well, maybe we can place you.
- 31:02[SPEAKER_03]: We know where we're at.
- 31:03[SPEAKER_03]: we know where you are as a 31 year old.
- 31:07[SPEAKER_03]: Maybe we can place you with a winner.
- 31:08[SPEAKER_03]: Maybe we can place you with a team that's gonna look and go to the Super Bowl this year and give you that opportunity.
- 31:15[SPEAKER_03]: Once upon a time, you know, it often slipped at doing that with a collage candle, you know.
- 31:21[SPEAKER_03]: So I think that in due time,
- 31:24[SPEAKER_03]: You could be looking at trades like that.
- 31:26[SPEAKER_03]: You could be looking at trades that pave the way for futures now with Jacob Rodriguez or to move Kaden Proctor over to right tackle.
- 31:37[SPEAKER_03]: Even though, you know, I think he is going to start at left guard.
- 31:39[SPEAKER_03]: But I don't think he's going to stay at left gardener's career.
- 31:42[SPEAKER_03]: I think he's a tackle for them.
- 31:44[SPEAKER_03]: Um, so, you know, yeah, would I be surprised, maybe seven games in?
- 31:48[SPEAKER_03]: No, not really, but it's not going to happen right away.
- 31:52[SPEAKER_03]: I think that the fans are itchy and once they just, oh, well, once we can trade a guy, then let's just do it right now, you know, and hopefully they think that way.
- 32:02[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 32:03[SPEAKER_02]: Last thing, Simon, we've talked about this before, you know, does he have enough to be able to be evaluated?
- 32:10[SPEAKER_02]: Well, we're going to have to, we're going to have to know because we're going to, we're projecting that they're going to have a very high draft pick.
- 32:16[SPEAKER_02]: Come next April, right?
- 32:18[SPEAKER_02]: So, do you project that we will know enough about Malik Wallace, whether we're in the quarterback market or not with a top five draft pick, come next April?
- 32:32[SPEAKER_01]: Uh, I'm, I think we talked about this in kind of March.
- 32:35[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, eight from time to time.
- 32:36[SPEAKER_01]: It's my biggest concern actually about the theme.
- 32:38[SPEAKER_01]: You know, I, I, I don't, I don't really care at Windsor losses this season because we kind of know what's going to happen.
- 32:42[SPEAKER_01]: I, I mean, obviously care at Windsor losses, but, you know, there's a bigger picture Windsor losses.
- 32:47[SPEAKER_01]: The development of where it's to me is the most important thing.
- 32:49[SPEAKER_01]: Obviously, I think the wrong game is going to be very important.
- 32:51[SPEAKER_01]: They have a lean heavily on that and they've tried to work hard on the offensive line.
- 32:54[SPEAKER_01]: If Austin Jackson stays stays healthy again, you know, there's the bones there are a pretty decent unit.
- 33:00[SPEAKER_01]: The receiver core and the tight end core is, you know, the thing that's really going to worry you if you're Malik Willis or his representatives or the dolphins, frankly, because they've made the financially investment and they've got an absolute, you know, they're trying to find them.
- 33:17[SPEAKER_01]: trying to find a planet on interstellar where there's actually life, and they may have just ended up on the one where everybody's died, because that's what the widest silver room looks like at the moment.
- 33:31[SPEAKER_01]: So the biggest question, look, there's so much to play out in terms of collegiate corebacks, you know, there's so much to play out in terms of what Willis might do is
- 33:45[SPEAKER_01]: We sat here and I was guilty as anybody's sitting here going well, and it's our Spanish, it's daunting more, and it's Julian Saine, it's Laura Sellers, and it's not bringing us souls, but he runs Drew Mr. Makingham, it's Trinidad Channelist, and it's the kid at Notre Dame, so he's your guy, it's your guy, minutes Ernest, the Drake Lindsey kid, and Minnesota, it's really good, and it's material, and all of them, my Arthur, and you're like, oh my God, these kids are amazing.
- 34:10[SPEAKER_01]: But how many of them,
- 34:12[SPEAKER_01]: There's no guarantee that my name is going to come out next year.
- 34:15[SPEAKER_01]: Do you know what I mean?
- 34:16[SPEAKER_01]: Yes, come out almost certainly.
- 34:18[SPEAKER_01]: But say in line up, come out, sellers probably will come out.
- 34:21[SPEAKER_01]: But at some point, five or six of those go, I must make is a red shirt sophomore.
- 34:26[SPEAKER_01]: You know, five or six of these guys that were to come up as first round picks are probably going to go, you know, Drake is the red shirt sophomore.
- 34:33[SPEAKER_01]: I'm going to go back, you know, is CJ Carr as a red shirt sophomore?
- 34:37[SPEAKER_01]: Is he going to have it, you know, enough experience?
- 34:42[SPEAKER_01]: I think that when you look at the receiver class, especially if you find yourself in a position, unless you know, someone like and Dylan's to you or her absolutely adore, you know, just absolutely just doors off to the point where you're just like, you cannot ignore this guy, he's so good.
- 34:55[SPEAKER_01]: You know, he's going to be the next Micah Parsons.
- 34:57[SPEAKER_01]: You know, the kind of gumble like bending ability that he has.
- 35:00[SPEAKER_01]: But you're going to be sitting there with a top three pick in the most like very likely hood with Jeremiah Smith, with Cam Coleman, you know, with Charlie Becker, with Nick Ma, you know, some serious receiving talent.
- 35:12[SPEAKER_01]: And you know, and that starts and starts with Jeremiah Smith, quite frankly.
- 35:15[SPEAKER_01]: And if you feel like, you know, you trust that
- 35:20[SPEAKER_01]: Malik needs another year and you know that a load of quarterbacks now are going to be out in 2028.
- 35:27[SPEAKER_01]: You just take Jeremiah Smith and you believe that the investment, both the financial and the physical investment that you made in Reliequilis is going to be the thing that carries you through it and if that doesn't work out then you find yourself at the door of the 28 draft with potentially a CJ Carl or a estimator or whoever else going through the ranks and you've also got an absolute stud wide receiver in Jeremiah Smith it's going to help this, you know, drastic receiver call Chris that we're going to struggle through in 2020 six.
- 35:57[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, the thing I said last week is listen if they're picking number one overall like that's different from picking number two overall or number three overall that there's just a certain reality in there.
- 36:10[SPEAKER_03]: And and a quarterback's class like this, I don't know who it's going to be, but it's going to be somebody, you know that.
- 36:17[SPEAKER_03]: And in a quarterback's class as strong as this one is regarded to be that number one, that QB one that everybody decides is QB one, you know, they're going to be talking about always the best in a generation and things like that.
- 36:32[SPEAKER_03]: And there's a certain reality that if you only want two or three games in order, you know, such that you actually got the number one overall pick.
- 36:41[SPEAKER_03]: how much faith could you really have in the 28-year-old Malik Willis to where you are skipping out on the guy that people are saying is the best in a generation.
- 36:51[SPEAKER_03]: I mean, you know, there's just a certain reality.
- 36:54[SPEAKER_03]: But once you're knocked off number one overall, calculus changed tremendously.
- 36:59[SPEAKER_03]: And at that point, you know, yeah, you're taking the second quote, the QB2 in this draft.
- 37:04[SPEAKER_03]: Nobody's calling the QB2 in this draft, the best in a generation.
- 37:08[SPEAKER_03]: You know, so I the calculus changes tremendously if you're once you're not picking number one overall.
- 37:14[SPEAKER_03]: So my base case would actually be if the dolphins are not picking number one over all that they're probably sticking around with milk will it's for, um, you know, for another year or more to see what's going on there, um, but yeah, I think that everything Simon said is is right, um, you don't know what that will actually, kind of is going to shape out and that's why that's why I say that the calculus changes when you're picking number two or number three.
- 37:42[SPEAKER_03]: because who do we know?
- 37:44[SPEAKER_03]: We don't even know who QB1 is going to be.
- 37:46[SPEAKER_03]: What do we know about QB2 or QB3 in this next class and how good they are and how good they'll look next to it.
- 37:55[SPEAKER_03]: Well, I think the number one thing that he'll show that that would buy him another gear in my amy if they're not picking number one overall is just saying healthy.
- 38:06[SPEAKER_03]: because Malik will us, you know, he had some injury issues last year, and also when he was with Tennessee, you know, one of the reasons that that variable was a little bit, you know, read us with him and the starting lineup was he didn't feel like he was going to stay
- 38:28[SPEAKER_03]: And that was a concern of it.
- 38:30[SPEAKER_03]: So if Malik Willis goes through the year, play 17 names and appears healthy, then that goes a really long way for him towards sticking around.
- 38:43[SPEAKER_03]: And I wouldn't be surprised if he succeeds, given that they built the team the way they have with respect to a solid run game, hopefully.
- 38:55[SPEAKER_03]: You know, the strength of the teams such as they are are the formula that we've seen bad teams in the past outperform wind totals, which is to say, offensive line, run game, run the ball, a lot, you know, get a dynamic, run game, and then place in defense, particularly stop the run on defense.
- 39:20[SPEAKER_03]: And, you know, with the linebackers that they drafted and
- 39:25[SPEAKER_03]: And the defense line, and that they have defensive line investments that they have.
- 39:30[SPEAKER_03]: Things like that, it wouldn't be surprised if they are okay stopping the run and running the ball.
- 39:35[SPEAKER_03]: That's the way they built the team.
- 39:37[SPEAKER_03]: That shouldn't be a surprise.
- 39:40[SPEAKER_03]: That's been a combination that outperforms wind total expectations throughout NFL history.
- 39:49[SPEAKER_03]: So I wouldn't be surprised if Malik Willis looks okay, and in that within that setting, so yeah, I think base case if they're not picking number one over all those, they'll keep them around.
- 40:03[SPEAKER_02]: All right, and next week we will have football of the talk about and I'll be there.
- 40:06[SPEAKER_02]: I'll be at a training camp.
- 40:08[SPEAKER_02]: So next week when you hear from us, we will have some football to talk about.
- 40:13[SPEAKER_02]: We'll talk about some players.
- 40:14[SPEAKER_02]: How they've looked so far by that time.
- 40:17[SPEAKER_02]: They will have three or four practices under their belt.
- 40:22[SPEAKER_02]: So tell them.
- 40:25[SPEAKER_00]: Thanks for listening to three yards per catty.
