- 0:11Speaker 1: meets Sir Galahad and they part forever. Now we must
- 0:15Speaker 1: tell what happened to Sir Launcelot when he was come
- 0:19Speaker 1: to a water named Mortois. He fell asleep a waiting
- 0:22Speaker 1: for the adventure that should be sent to him, And
- 0:25Speaker 1: in his sleep a voice spoke to him and bade
- 0:28Speaker 1: him rise and take his armor and enter the first
- 0:31Speaker 1: ship he should find. So he started up and took
- 0:34Speaker 1: his arms and made him ready, and on the strand
- 0:37Speaker 1: he found a ship that was without sail or oar.
- 0:40Speaker 1: As soon as he was within the ship, he felt
- 0:42Speaker 1: himself wrapped round with a sweetness such as he had
- 0:46Speaker 1: never known before, as if all that he could desire
- 0:49Speaker 1: was fulfilled. And with this joy and peace about him,
- 0:53Speaker 1: he fell asleep. When he woke, he found near him
- 0:57Speaker 1: a fair bed with a dead lady lying on it,
- 1:00Speaker 1: whom he knew to be Sir Percivale's sister. And in
- 1:02Speaker 1: her hand was the tale of her adventures, which Sir
- 1:06Speaker 1: Launcelot took and read for a month or more they
- 1:09Speaker 1: dwelt in that ship together, and one day, when it
- 1:12Speaker 1: had drifted near the shore, he heard a sound as
- 1:15Speaker 1: of a horse, and when the steps came nearer, he
- 1:18Speaker 1: saw that a knight was riding him at the side
- 1:21Speaker 1: of the ship. The knight alighted and took the saddle
- 1:24Speaker 1: and bridle and entered the ship. You are welcome, said Launcelot,
- 1:28Speaker 1: and the knight saluted him and said, what is your name?
- 1:31Speaker 1: For my heart go without to you truly, answered he.
- 1:35Speaker 1: My name is Sir Launcelot du Lake. Sir, said the
- 1:38Speaker 1: new knight. You are welcome, for you are my father.
- 1:42Speaker 1: Ah cried Sir Launcelot. Is it youth in Galahad? Yes,
- 1:46Speaker 1: in sooth, said he, and kneeled down and asked Launcelot's blessing,
- 1:51Speaker 1: and then took off his helm and kissed him. And
- 1:54Speaker 1: there was great joy between them, and they told each
- 1:57Speaker 1: other all that had befallen them since they left King
- 2:00Speaker 1: Arthur's court. Then Galahad saw the gentlewoman dead on the bed,
- 2:04Speaker 1: and he knew her and said he held her in
- 2:07Speaker 1: great worship, and that she was the best maid in
- 2:10Speaker 1: the world, And how it was a great pity that
- 2:12Speaker 1: she should come to her death. But when Launcelot heard
- 2:16Speaker 1: that Galahad had won the marvelous sword, he prayed that
- 2:19Speaker 1: he might see it, and kissed the pommel and the
- 2:22Speaker 1: hilt and the scabbard. In truth, he said, never did
- 2:25Speaker 1: I know of adventure so wonderful and strange. So dwelt
- 2:29Speaker 1: Launcelot and Galahad in that ship for half a year
- 2:33Speaker 1: and served God daily and nightly with all their power.
- 2:36Speaker 1: And after six months had gone it befell that on
- 2:40Speaker 1: a Monday, they drifted to the edge of the forest,
- 2:42Speaker 1: where they saw a knight with white armor, bestriding one
- 2:46Speaker 1: horse and holding another, all white by the bridle. And
- 2:50Speaker 1: he came to the ship and saluted the two knights,
- 2:52Speaker 1: and said, Galahad, you have been long enough with your father.
- 2:56Speaker 1: Therefore leave that ship and start upon this horse and
- 3:00Speaker 1: go on the quest of the Holy Grail. So Galahad
- 3:04Speaker 1: went to his father and kissed him, saying, fair, sweet father,
- 3:08Speaker 1: I know not if I shall see you more till
- 3:11Speaker 1: I have beheld the Holy Grail. Then they heard a
- 3:14Speaker 1: voice which said the one shall never see the other
- 3:17Speaker 1: till the day of doom. Now Galahad said, Sir Launcelot,
- 3:21Speaker 1: since we are to bid farewell forever now, I pray
- 3:25Speaker 1: to the Great Father to preserve you and me both,
- 3:28Speaker 1: Sir answered Galahad. No prayer availeth so much as yours.
- 3:33Speaker 1: The next day, Sir Launcelot made his way back to Camelot,
- 3:37Speaker 1: where he found King Arthur and Guinevere. But many of
- 3:40Speaker 1: the knights of the Round Table were slain and destroyed
- 3:44Speaker 1: more than the half All the court was passing glad
- 3:47Speaker 1: to see Sir Launcelot, and the King asked many tidings
- 3:50Speaker 1: of his son, Sir Galahad, and of Part two, Story
