- 0:09Speaker 1: Hey, what's going on? Everyone?
- 0:11Speaker 2: Welcome into another episode of The Checko Daily. Andrew diiceco
- 0:14Speaker 2: here at Eagles beat reporter for Inside the Birds dot
- 0:16Speaker 2: Com and this is gonna be a quick podcast today.
- 0:19Speaker 2: But the cornerback position isn't one that's off discussed when
- 0:23Speaker 2: looking at the NFL Draft and the Eagles needs, but
- 0:26Speaker 2: it is a sneaky need when you look at the
- 0:28Speaker 2: future of that position beyond Quinya Mitchell and Cooper de Gene.
- 0:33Speaker 1: And I'm going to go.
- 0:34Speaker 2: Through four cornerbacks who I like, and I'll tell you
- 0:37Speaker 2: what rounds I have them projected and how they might
- 0:40Speaker 2: fit in a Vic Fangio defense. The first one, and
- 0:45Speaker 2: really the first two are two of my favorite cornerbacks
- 0:48Speaker 2: in this draft class. And the first one probably isn't
- 0:51Speaker 2: a surprise. It's Chris Johnson from San Diego State. Look,
- 0:57Speaker 2: I think he's a top thirty five, top forty player
- 1:00Speaker 2: who could find his way into the first round. So
- 1:03Speaker 2: it would probably not necessarily aligned before the Eagles are
- 1:06Speaker 2: picking at twenty three, but you never know.
- 1:10Speaker 1: With a trade back scenario or even a trade.
- 1:12Speaker 2: Up, it's not totally out of the realm of possibility,
- 1:16Speaker 2: though they do have far more pressing needs, and I
- 1:18Speaker 2: don't think that taking a corner at twenty three, even
- 1:21Speaker 2: if it's Avion Terrell, would be necessarily the best value.
- 1:27Speaker 1: At that spot.
- 1:29Speaker 2: But nevertheless, Chris Johnson has really good size, tested well.
- 1:35Speaker 2: Two year starter for San Diego State, played some special
- 1:38Speaker 2: teams his first two years and contributed sporadically. I talked
- 1:43Speaker 2: about that in the interview that I did with him.
- 1:45Speaker 2: But highly intelligent player who can play inside or outside.
- 1:50Speaker 2: I look at him as a boundary corner at the
- 1:52Speaker 2: next level. Good eye discipline, he can read the eyes
- 1:56Speaker 2: of a quarterback, which speaks to his football acumen. But
- 2:00Speaker 2: the ball skills, talking about five interceptions over his final
- 2:05Speaker 2: two seasons, nine pass breakups over that time. Talked about
- 2:09Speaker 2: how his father got him in love with playing the
- 2:12Speaker 2: game of football at an early age, and this is
- 2:15Speaker 2: a player who just talking to him, he loves football.
- 2:19Speaker 2: The high character revealed itself. And I look at what
- 2:23Speaker 2: he does, what he did in college, and how he projects,
- 2:26Speaker 2: and he looks like a player who would be an
- 2:29Speaker 2: ideal fit for a vic Fangio system. And it's the
- 2:35Speaker 2: route recognition, the eye disciplined, the football instincts. Sure there's
- 2:40Speaker 2: times where a bigger bodied receiver might get the best
- 2:43Speaker 2: of them and out muscle him for a football. But
- 2:47Speaker 2: I think he projects as an early impact kind of corner,
- 2:51Speaker 2: and he's really since the combine he's been my favorite
- 2:54Speaker 2: cornerback in this class. So that's Chris Johnson, twenty one
- 2:58Speaker 2: years old and upside. The next one who I view
- 3:02Speaker 2: maybe as a top fifty corner would be South Carolina's
- 3:06Speaker 2: Brandon Seesay. Just a hair under six foot and his
- 3:11Speaker 2: testing numbers were really impressive forty one inch vertical four
- 3:15Speaker 2: to four one forty at his pro day. He's not
- 3:19Speaker 2: even twenty one years old. Yet he's a twitched up player. Yeah,
- 3:23Speaker 2: you worry about the size a little bit. He's under
- 3:26Speaker 2: six foot and he weighed just under one ninety. He
- 3:29Speaker 2: throws his body around, so he's a willing participant when
- 3:33Speaker 2: it comes to the tackling aspect. We'll see how that
- 3:36Speaker 2: projects at the next level and if he runs into
- 3:39Speaker 2: some durability concerns. But this is a extremely athletic and
- 3:43Speaker 2: twitched up corner, good long speed, not necessarily the most
- 3:47Speaker 2: refined or polished product when it comes to eye discipline
- 3:52Speaker 2: and playing with anticipation. You'd like to see that evolve
- 3:56Speaker 2: a little bit more ball tracking and things like that.
- 3:59Speaker 2: But you're talking about someone who is not necessarily a
- 4:04Speaker 2: blank canvas. But he's so young and with those kind
- 4:09Speaker 2: of qualities and the ability to take the football away,
- 4:13Speaker 2: I think are really appealing facets, and you couple that
- 4:16Speaker 2: with the inherent traits that he has that are high
- 4:20Speaker 2: level and explosive. He can play on the outside, which
- 4:24Speaker 2: is really where I see him at the next level.
- 4:27Speaker 2: But this is a big play corner who can make
- 4:30Speaker 2: some big plays. We'll see if that style in which
- 4:34Speaker 2: he plays, which is sometimes just capitalizing on his athleticism
- 4:39Speaker 2: and maybe not necessarily dialing in on the technical aspects
- 4:42Speaker 2: of the position, will play out in the NFL. But
- 4:46Speaker 2: Brandon CIEs is a top fifty guy. If the Eagles
- 4:50Speaker 2: were to get him, they would probably have to trade
- 4:51Speaker 2: up a little bit from fifty four, at least in
- 4:53Speaker 2: my estimation. But that's the second corner. The third one
- 4:57Speaker 2: would be trade and Stokes from Arizona he began his
- 5:01Speaker 2: career or he is six foot one, one hundred and
- 5:10Speaker 2: ninety pounds, offers you positional versatility, tough, instinctive player, run
- 5:15Speaker 2: a four to three at the NFL scouting combine foreign
- 5:18Speaker 2: receptions last season, six pass breakups.
- 5:21Speaker 1: I like the physical nature in which.
- 5:23Speaker 2: He plays the game, and you like the length and
- 5:25Speaker 2: his ability to convert to use that length to narrow
- 5:30Speaker 2: throwing windows. He's a smart, instinctual football player, and that
- 5:34Speaker 2: versatility could endear himself to an Eagles defense that prioritizes
- 5:40Speaker 2: versatility and high level football acumen. He can certainly provide
- 5:45Speaker 2: all of that. And you look at the speed, the
- 5:48Speaker 2: four to three speed. He's a little bit older. I
- 5:49Speaker 2: think he's a little bit over twenty three years old,
- 5:52Speaker 2: not quite twenty four. But he would be a player
- 5:55Speaker 2: that if the Eagles wanted him at sixty eight, might
- 5:58Speaker 2: be an ideal spot in the third round.
- 6:00Speaker 1: A third round grade on him.
- 6:01Speaker 3: Hey, Philly fans, game day is stressful enough. Parking, traffic,
- 6:05Speaker 3: long lines, We've all been there. But when it comes

- 6:56Speaker 4: great prices, and an experience made for Philly fans twenty
- 6:59Speaker 4: one and up.
- 7:01Speaker 2: The final player that I want to talk about is
- 7:04Speaker 2: Julian Neil out of Arkansas Now. He began his career
- 7:08Speaker 2: at Fresno State and then spend four seasons there. Goes
- 7:12Speaker 2: to Arkansas a season last season two interceptions on the year,
- 7:17Speaker 2: ran a four four nine in the pre draft cycle,
- 7:21Speaker 2: thirty three inch arms.
- 7:22Speaker 1: He can play man orizone.
- 7:24Speaker 2: The scheme in which he was in at Arkansas was
- 7:27Speaker 2: a balanced one, so you like the ability to translate
- 7:30Speaker 2: his skill set to either or which is appealing. He's
- 7:34Speaker 2: twenty three years old. You know, I personally and I
- 7:38Speaker 2: understand this is the final year of the of the
- 7:40Speaker 2: COVID class when you had the factor in the red
- 7:42Speaker 2: shirt freshman year and all that.
- 7:45Speaker 1: If you like the player, you take him.
- 7:47Speaker 2: He's more of a fourth round guy, an early day
- 7:50Speaker 2: three guy, so pick one fourteen or one thirty seven
- 7:53Speaker 2: we're talking about here. But I like the This is
- 7:56Speaker 2: a physical player. This is someone who is a hard worker.
- 8:01Speaker 2: He has like an unrelenting competitiveness that shows itself on
- 8:05Speaker 2: the field, and he is a sort of a fearless player,
- 8:08Speaker 2: will throw his body around and do whatever it takes
- 8:10Speaker 2: to help the football team. I like his ability to
- 8:16Speaker 2: play mostly on the outside. I kind of have him
- 8:19Speaker 2: pegged as an outside corner. He can play inside if
- 8:22Speaker 2: he needed him to. Nearly six foot two, and there's
- 8:26Speaker 2: a lot to like about Julie and Neil.
- 8:28Speaker 1: But that's going to do it for this episode of
- 8:31Speaker 1: the Check.
- 8:31Speaker 2: O'daly just ran through some corners and there's plenty of
- 8:35Speaker 2: unpack in the coming days.
- 8:36Speaker 1: I've talked a lot about the draft this week, but
- 8:40Speaker 2: We'll do more of it in the coming days, So
- 8:43Speaker 2: I'll catch you all on the next one.
