Transcript
- 0:00Speaker 1: Hour number two of the next round presented by Hard
- 0:03Speaker 1: Rock Bets on Sport and State. Back to some college
- 0:05Speaker 1: football stuff and a little poll that we've taken on
- 0:09Speaker 1: the show here about brands that have slipped a little bit.
- 0:15Speaker 1: My wife is not a sports fan. She's actually a
- 0:18Speaker 1: Methodist pastor. That doesn't eliminate you from being a sports fan.
- 0:22Speaker 1: You said it like a Methodist pastor. Yeah, you're right.
- 0:24Speaker 1: You can be a Methodist pastor and a sports fan.
- 0:27Speaker 1: But she usually doesn't keep up. with what's going on
- 0:31Speaker 1: in sports. But I'm walking out the door, feeling like
- 0:34Speaker 1: I'm running a little late as I try to beat
- 0:35Speaker 1: Forrester here every morning. He beats me now about 92%
- 0:38Speaker 1: of the time. That way, Scotty. I got him today, though.
- 0:41Speaker 1: I got him today. So I'm walking out the door. And,
- 0:45Speaker 1: I mean, literally, I've got a coffee, a water bag,
- 0:48Speaker 1: and I'm shutting the door as you do like this,
- 0:50Speaker 1: you know, with sort of your elbow trying to shut
- 0:52Speaker 1: the door. And she's like, back from walking the dog,
- 0:54Speaker 1: she's like, hey, man, what do you think of this good,
- 0:56Speaker 1: good controversy? I've got it on my list. And I
- 0:59Speaker 1: was like, oh, I'm sorry. Do you really? I do.
- 1:03Speaker 1: And I was like, you've got a lot of good,
- 1:05Speaker 1: good gear, don't you? Let's not say a lot. I
- 1:07Speaker 1: want to see where America comes in. Jim's got to
- 1:10Speaker 1: distance himself. I've got two hats. Well, you know what
- 1:13Speaker 1: will happen. I mean, Callaway already got pulled from Costco,
- 1:16Speaker 1: I think. Explain to everybody what's going on and what's
- 1:20Speaker 1: the controversy. Because all I've seen is a four-second clip
- 1:22Speaker 1: that you show me in the studio in between One
- 1:24Speaker 1: of our sports state commercial break shows. Well, do you
- 1:26Speaker 1: want to wait until you get to yours? Yeah, can
- 1:28Speaker 1: I do it when I get to mine and you
- 1:29Speaker 1: come back with what Maggie said? All right, all right. Well, no,
- 1:31Speaker 1: she's like, I watched it. I just can't believe they
- 1:33Speaker 1: pushed that girl down. And I was like, well, what
- 1:36Speaker 1: if it had been a guy? They pushed a guy down.
- 1:38Speaker 1: Still would be a bad commercial. I was like, I
- 1:40Speaker 1: don't get it either. But I don't really have enough
- 1:42Speaker 1: to talk about it, and I'm trying to get out
- 1:44Speaker 1: the door. All right, so. Maggie Hodge, blame it. No,
- 1:48Speaker 1: I didn't say that. I know. But I did have
- 1:50Speaker 1: my good, good hat on when I said it. Push
- 1:53Speaker 1: her down the leaf. Three brands that have taken a
- 1:56Speaker 1: step back. One sport, one pop culture, and one consumer.
- 2:00Speaker 1: Let's let Brown go first. Oh, hang on. You're changing something? No, no, no. Okay.
- 2:05Speaker 1: Brown's going to go first since I've wiggled into his
- 2:08Speaker 1: big board here. And then we'll get back to some
- 2:10Speaker 1: college football news that is going on as we're two
- 2:13Speaker 1: days away from the week zero start. Of the college
- 2:16Speaker 1: football season. All right. Brown has locked in his answer.
- 2:18Speaker 1: Give them to me, Brown.
- 2:19Speaker 2: All right.
- 2:19Speaker 1: My sports brand that has taken a step back, the
- 2:21Speaker 1: Miami Dolphins. I mean, to say the very least, this
- 2:25Speaker 1: used to be a very proud franchise. They're the worst
- 2:28Speaker 1: team in the NFL right now with a new coach.
- 2:31Speaker 1: They've completely taken probably multiple steps backwards, being honest about it.
- 2:36Speaker 1: But I think this generation doesn't know what a good
- 2:38Speaker 1: franchise this used to be in the 70s and 80s.
- 2:41Speaker 1: It was among the best franchises in the NFL.
- 2:43Speaker 3: I mean, I think your big flex right now is
- 2:46Speaker 3: that the Rams, the last team they beat or the
- 2:48Speaker 3: furthest team back was the Miami Dolphins in 2001.
- 2:50Speaker 1: That's it. We'll print a T-shirt. We'll put a T-shirt
- 2:53Speaker 1: out on that one. My pop culture brand that has
- 2:56Speaker 1: taken a step back is MTV. Do you get MTV anymore? Well,
- 2:59Speaker 1: I think it went away, didn't it? No, it's still there.
- 3:02Speaker 4: It just plays Rob Dyrdek's Ridiculousness for 24 hours a day.
- 3:05Speaker 1: Yeah, they don't do anything. Do you get it? Who's
- 3:08Speaker 1: your service? Are you YouTube TV?
- 3:09Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 3:09Speaker 1: Are you YouTube TV?
- 3:10Speaker 5: I am, yes.
- 3:11Speaker 6: I am, too.
- 3:11Speaker 1: Do you get MTV? I don't know. Do you get MTV?
- 3:13Speaker 1: I get a lot of channels, but I only go
- 3:15Speaker 1: to seven of them.
- 3:16Speaker 3: I feel pretty good that I get MTV, but... Have
- 3:19Speaker 3: I watched MTV in the last decade?
- 3:21Speaker 2: No.
- 3:21Speaker 1: You know how I don't know if I get MTV?
- 3:23Speaker 1: They don't have live sports play-by-play. That's about the only
- 3:26Speaker 1: thing I watch on YouTube TV. I mean, there's a
- 3:27Speaker 1: thousand channels that I get on YouTube TV, but I
- 3:31Speaker 1: only go to seven of them, it seems like.
- 3:33Speaker 6: It's still owned by the same group that owns Paramount.
- 3:36Speaker 1: CBS Paramount owns MTV.
- 3:37Speaker 3: Yeah, because I see the moon man plant the flag
- 3:39Speaker 3: on if you're watching any Paramount productions.
- 3:41Speaker 1: That's right. But I mean, think about MTV. We all
- 3:44Speaker 1: grew up watching that, whether it was music videos, their
- 3:46Speaker 1: original productions, whatever the case might be. But see, I
- 3:48Speaker 1: thought I saw last year that the MTV Music Awards
- 3:51Speaker 1: actually outlived MTV.
- 3:54Speaker 4: Yes.
- 3:54Speaker 1: So there is still something called MTV on the dial.
- 3:57Speaker 4: Yes, but it's just a channel. It's not music television.
- 4:02Speaker 4: They phased the music videos out in the late 90s,
- 4:06Speaker 4: early 2000s.
- 4:06Speaker 1: I appreciate Brown doing a list from 2007.
- 4:10Speaker 4: Seven yeah brown they've actually been playing music they actually
- 4:14Speaker 4: played music less than uh the amount of time people
- 4:17Speaker 4: have complained that mtv doesn't play music anymore.
- 4:20Speaker 3: All right let me bring it so just real quick
- 4:22Speaker 3: brown here's what you've got you got jersey shore coming
- 4:25Speaker 3: up the challenge uh the champs versus stars if i.
- 4:29Speaker 1: Told you you've got to watch that tonight you wouldn't
- 4:31Speaker 1: know where to.
- 4:32Speaker 3: Start 16 and pregnant acapulco shore yeah i.
- 4:35Speaker 6: Mean pregnant yeah i don't Acapulco short branching out.
- 4:40Speaker 1: And then finally, my business, my consumer brand that has
- 4:43Speaker 1: taken a step back is good. Good. So to completely
- 4:45Speaker 1: explain this to Maggie, if she's watching, if not, you
- 4:48Speaker 1: explain it to me like I'm five. Good Good is
- 4:52Speaker 1: a golf influencer brand. They made their name in the
- 4:55Speaker 1: golf influencer space and have gotten so big. They've got
- 4:58Speaker 1: their own clothing line. As Lance pointed out, you've got
- 5:01Speaker 1: just a bare minimum. It's not a lot of gear.
- 5:03Speaker 1: I've got two. But they make golf shirts. They're very
- 5:08Speaker 1: loud golf shirts. It's not my cup of tea, but
- 5:11Speaker 1: I see a lot of people wear their gear. They
- 5:13Speaker 1: were sponsoring a PGA Tour event next year, not like
- 5:16Speaker 1: a big tour event. You said was. Oh, I think
- 5:19Speaker 1: the tour is distance themselves. Not LPGA?
- 5:21Speaker 5: No, no.
- 5:22Speaker 1: That'd be even worse, wouldn't it? But Good Good did
- 5:24Speaker 1: a commercial in conjunction with Callaway Golf. And basically to
- 5:29Speaker 1: describe it, I need them back here too, Jim. Basically
- 5:32Speaker 1: to describe it, um some of the good good guys
- 5:35Speaker 1: are standing around talking it's like a seizure some of
- 5:38Speaker 1: the good good guys are standing around talking i'm just
- 5:40Speaker 1: gonna lay it down how about how about i hold
- 5:42Speaker 1: it for you good good guys are standing around talking
- 5:44Speaker 1: thank you lance i think we've got your list it
- 5:46Speaker 1: doesn't need to stay up like a drop box we've
- 5:49Speaker 1: got your list you're trying to make it like a
- 5:52Speaker 1: tv graphic uh they're doing a commercial and uh there's
- 5:56Speaker 1: a callaway golf bag in the foreground the dudes are
- 5:59Speaker 1: talking a girl walks over to grab a callaway driver
- 6:02Speaker 1: And one of the good, good dudes runs over, tackles
- 6:04Speaker 1: her to the ground, stands over her, would have gotten
- 6:07Speaker 1: a 15-yard penalty in the NFL. This is actually a
- 6:09Speaker 1: penalty in the NFL. Stands over her and says, don't
- 6:11Speaker 1: ever touch my driver. I mean, literally, it's a flag
- 6:14Speaker 1: of the NFL. For good, good, it may have ruined
- 6:16Speaker 1: their brand. I mean, it has been a complete fire
- 6:19Speaker 1: show for them.
- 6:19Speaker 6: You roll that out.
- 6:20Speaker 3: Don Draper rolls that out in the 60s as a madman. Oh,
- 6:22Speaker 3: it gets thumbs up right away. They sell the shit
- 6:24Speaker 3: out of some golf clubs back in the day. But
- 6:27Speaker 3: none of it makes sense to me.
- 6:28Speaker 1: Right. What was the point of the commercial? Don't touch
- 6:33Speaker 1: my driver. Because it's so good it's a Callaway? The
- 6:35Speaker 1: point of the commercial is I value my golf clubs
- 6:38Speaker 1: more than I value you. I mean, that's essentially what
- 6:40Speaker 1: you're saying to the commercial. If that was a guy,
- 6:42Speaker 1: would it have been any different? It would have been
- 6:44Speaker 1: a little bit different. Yeah, the fact... No, I think
- 6:46Speaker 1: it would have been totally different if it was a guy.
- 6:47Speaker 1: Nobody bats an eye. Because domestic violence. In fact, it
- 6:51Speaker 1: was a female. A dude tackling a.
- 6:52Speaker 7: Female to the ground.
- 6:53Speaker 1: Is it taboo? Trying to get women out of having
- 6:55Speaker 1: jobs in commercials? No, y'all nothing.
- 6:58Speaker 3: Is it taboo to use other people's drivers?
- 7:01Speaker 1: It's not my favorite thing. Like, I've let you use
- 7:02Speaker 1: mine before. So you don't like it, though?
- 7:04Speaker 4: No.
- 7:05Speaker 1: No, I don't. I mean, it depends on how good
- 7:07Speaker 1: the player is. If it's a good player, I'm fine.
- 7:09Speaker 1: But if it's a bad player, he could sky it.
- 7:11Speaker 6: He doesn't want someone like you touching his drivers.
- 7:13Speaker 1: No, I just literally said I've let you use mine.
- 7:16Speaker 6: Yeah, but you said you didn't like it.
- 7:18Speaker 1: If it's a good player, I don't care. Yeah, it's
- 7:19Speaker 1: being played up as depicting violence against women. Right. And
- 7:24Speaker 1: the fallout has resulted in pooled retail merchandise, postponed television broadcasts,
- 7:29Speaker 1: and Dynamic tension regarding the brand's partnership with the PGA
- 7:33Speaker 1: Tour is what is being said here from the robot
- 7:38Speaker 1: on a quick Google search. Yeah, not a great moment
- 7:40Speaker 1: for Good Good or Callaway Golf. I mean, Callaway's filling
- 7:42Speaker 1: the brunt of it, too. Yeah. Golf Channel has indefinitely
- 7:47Speaker 1: postponed the highly anticipated premiere of its big break. Times
- 7:51Speaker 1: Good Good reality show. Yeah, they were joined together doing
- 7:54Speaker 1: a joint thing.
- 7:55Speaker 3: First I heard about it, Maddie, girlfriend at home a
- 7:57Speaker 3: couple of days ago, she was like, hey, that new
- 7:59Speaker 3: putter you got, it's not Callaway, is it?
- 8:02Speaker 1: So she wants you to ban Callaway use?
- 8:04Speaker 7: Oh, yeah.
- 8:04Speaker 1: She said no Callaway in the house. No Callaway in
- 8:07Speaker 1: the house.
- 8:08Speaker 4: Wow.
- 8:09Speaker 1: Watch out. You're going to come home and have a
- 8:10Speaker 1: Callaway sticker on Chili and Bullet. Yeah. Get rid of
- 8:15Speaker 1: them now.
- 8:16Speaker 6: That's extra bad. You can't have Callaway in the house
- 8:19Speaker 6: or dogs in the bed.
- 8:20Speaker 8: That's right.
- 8:20Speaker 4: Yep.
- 8:21Speaker 1: And then that's when Maddie's going to say, sorry, they're Callaway. No,
- 8:24Speaker 1: that's good. What is your list?
- 8:30Speaker 6: I am going to start.
- 8:31Speaker 3: This is going to be unpopular, but they went from
- 8:33Speaker 3: 15-2 to 6-11 last year. They were 10-0 in one
- 8:37Speaker 3: possession games in 2024. Last year, they dropped back to
- 8:41Speaker 3: 1-9 in those one possession games. Kansas City Chiefs taking
- 8:44Speaker 3: steps back. They don't have– I know they brought in
- 8:46Speaker 3: Kenneth Walker. Patrick Mahomes is not going to be the
- 8:48Speaker 3: same Pat Mahomes. I know everybody's believing this is going
- 8:51Speaker 3: to be a big bounce back, but that is my
- 8:53Speaker 3: sports brand that is taking a step back. Tyler, if
- 8:56Speaker 3: you could pull us an Ariana Grande. Ariana Grande used
- 8:59Speaker 3: to be one of my– she was a top seed
- 9:01Speaker 3: for me.
- 9:02Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 9:02Speaker 6: I mean– What's going on here?
- 9:04Speaker 1: She has gotten– Okay.
- 9:06Speaker 3: Ariana to the left, Ariana to the right.
- 9:09Speaker 7: Good Ariana.
- 9:10Speaker 1: I never understood why you liked her so much, but–
- 9:14Speaker 1: You can't.
- 9:15Speaker 3: Deny that whatever is going on in the middle, like
- 9:17Speaker 3: she stopped eating. She ate some parasites that are eating
- 9:20Speaker 3: her from the inside out.
- 9:22Speaker 1: Jim, whatever you feel about her, left photo and center
- 9:24Speaker 1: photo are not the same person. You would admit that?
- 9:27Speaker 5: No, no.
- 9:28Speaker 1: And the right photo is my favorite. I don't know why.
- 9:30Speaker 1: Do you have that bunny mask? The costume, the bunny mask.
- 9:35Speaker 1: Is that a leather bunny mask? I do like the
- 9:36Speaker 1: right one the best. It is indeed, Browning.
- 9:38Speaker 3: I mean, the right and left Ariana is not even
- 9:41Speaker 3: close to the current 2026 Ariana.
- 9:42Speaker 1: Exactly. She has absolutely killed herself. She can still sing.
- 9:48Speaker 1: She's 33 now.
- 9:50Speaker 3: But she still should be in that prime with her
- 9:52Speaker 3: kind of money, her being.
- 9:53Speaker 1: A pop singer. I think she just lost too much weight.
- 9:57Speaker 4: I think what happened, a lot of these celebrities have
- 9:59Speaker 4: been doing... that buccal fat removal on the cheeks, and
- 10:03Speaker 4: it just makes them look like an alien.
- 10:06Speaker 1: So that's where they take out fat cells on your cheeks?
- 10:09Speaker 6: Yeah, I think they suck it all out of your cheeks.
- 10:11Speaker 1: And they put them in mine?
- 10:13Speaker 3: I mean, I could just have a simple conversation with her. Look,
- 10:16Speaker 3: go back to whatever you were doing before.
- 10:18Speaker 1: Yeah, it was working. Before all the... Oh, my. That
- 10:22Speaker 1: was a disaster.
- 10:25Speaker 6: Might want to move it away from your little tablet there.
- 10:28Speaker 2: Wow.
- 10:30Speaker 3: Hey, by the way, we've got a water shortage up here.
- 10:32Speaker 3: It has nothing to do with data centers.
- 10:36Speaker 1: Internally, everybody knows about that.
- 10:38Speaker 3: So I have to scamper to go get my water.
- 10:39Speaker 1: Son of a bitch. Well, you do the ice now, too.
- 10:42Speaker 1: These guys get on me. If you're new to the show,
- 10:44Speaker 1: some of you are. These guys get on me because
- 10:46Speaker 1: I over, in fact, I'm having medical issues because I
- 10:49Speaker 1: overanalyze and stress out about the smallest things, including every
- 10:53Speaker 1: segment of every show, all 1,269 we've done. And I
- 10:56Speaker 1: thought I had a horrible first hour coming off of
- 10:59Speaker 1: a horrible show yesterday. Yeah. We never noticed. I was
- 11:03Speaker 1: stressed out that I have not been performing well this
- 11:05Speaker 1: week in our big new launch, that I have not
- 11:07Speaker 1: had a good week of broadcasting. We got brought up
- 11:10Speaker 1: in the meeting when you were gone yesterday. But now,
- 11:13Speaker 1: the first 11 minutes of this segment between Brown's seizure—
- 11:17Speaker 1: And LT flooding the set. I feel like I'm now
- 11:19Speaker 1: the best performer on the show. I think Brown did that.
- 11:22Speaker 1: Did he not?
- 11:22Speaker 6: No, Brown did.
- 11:23Speaker 3: Let's go back to a replay there.
- 11:25Speaker 1: Brown, I'm not even touching it.
- 11:26Speaker 3: I thought you hit my thing.
- 11:28Speaker 1: Did it not?
- 11:28Speaker 3: No.
- 11:29Speaker 1: Okay, so it just slid out. Yeah, as I showed
- 11:31Speaker 1: earlier in my seizure, they don't see.
- 11:34Speaker 8: I think we've determined we need some sort of easel
- 11:37Speaker 8: or something for this.
- 11:39Speaker 4: The Ariana picture was up during the live show, so
- 11:43Speaker 4: I cannot definitively say.
- 11:45Speaker 1: We do not have the spillage. The spill and the
- 11:49Speaker 1: gallon of water going out.
- 11:50Speaker 5: We do not have the exact moment of the spill.
- 11:53Speaker 3: Because wasn't it progressive where they would take a timeout,
- 11:55Speaker 3: they'd throw the flag, and they'd go look under the hood?
- 11:57Speaker 1: I'm going to want to see that again. I would
- 11:58Speaker 1: love to look under the hood. I'll be in center
- 12:01Speaker 1: of my moment.
- 12:02Speaker 7: Back to that.
- 12:02Speaker 1: Clay Travis in 12 minutes, and he's probably debating whether
- 12:06Speaker 1: or not he has made a good choice or not.
- 12:08Speaker 3: Since she started the Wicked, the movie stuff, she's completely
- 12:12Speaker 3: fell apart. And then my number three, Outback Steakhouse. I
- 12:14Speaker 3: don't know if they're ever going to be a sponsor.
- 12:15Speaker 3: Probably not after this. But I used to love the
- 12:18Speaker 3: Outback Steakhouse.
- 12:19Speaker 1: I mean, once a week for me.
- 12:21Speaker 3: Yeah, I would go on Sundays typically. And this was
- 12:23Speaker 3: when I was first married. This is in the early 2000s.
- 12:27Speaker 3: We would go on Sunday nights and I loved it.
- 12:29Speaker 3: I loved getting the cheese fries to start off. I
- 12:31Speaker 3: would do the Alice Springs chicken.
- 12:32Speaker 1: Alice Springs chicken was terrific.
- 12:34Speaker 3: I would do it with the sweet potato, get some
- 12:36Speaker 3: of those cold, big bud lights with it. And the
- 12:39Speaker 3: last time I went in, I got a hairball in
- 12:40Speaker 3: my mouth. They offered me a chocolate thunder from down
- 12:43Speaker 3: under to make up for that. The service is terrible.
- 12:46Speaker 3: There's rags laying on tables. It's just become a shitty product,
- 12:50Speaker 3: in my opinion.
- 12:51Speaker 6: Well, if it's the one near you, that is the worst.
- 12:55Speaker 1: Back in the state. No, that one's gone.
- 12:57Speaker 6: Oh, that one's gone now.
- 12:58Speaker 1: That was my experience.
- 12:59Speaker 6: But you know what?
- 13:00Speaker 3: If you're part of the brand... This is about franchisees.
- 13:03Speaker 3: You've got to make sure that they carry the brand
- 13:05Speaker 3: with quality.
- 13:06Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 13:07Speaker 3: And they did a bad job, and so the Outback
- 13:08Speaker 3: needs to do some damage control, in my opinion.
- 13:10Speaker 1: But that's my brand that took a step back.
- 13:12Speaker 4: Yeah. I pulled up some pictures of some recent Bloomin' Onions,
- 13:16Speaker 4: and there's a crayon for scale.
- 13:19Speaker 1: Boy, that's gotten smaller.
- 13:20Speaker 5: Oh, my gosh.
- 13:21Speaker 1: Boy, it's gotten smaller. And it looks disgusting.
- 13:23Speaker 4: Here you've got the slop you can get delivered from Outback.
- 13:27Speaker 3: Now, that looks like dead insects in the middle of that.
- 13:29Speaker 4: Oh, wow. Yeah.
- 13:31Speaker 7: Yeah.
- 13:33Speaker 1: Can't wait for Clay to send the email.
- 13:34Speaker 5: Hey, guys.
- 13:34Speaker 1: Big deal with Outback. You guys give away a free Bloomin'
- 13:39Speaker 1: Onion on every show. Every show. I hope my third
- 13:44Speaker 1: one isn't a sponsor coming up either. Here's mine. I'll
- 13:46Speaker 1: try to manage the board properly. Don't spill anything.
- 13:49Speaker 5: Oh, no.
- 13:50Speaker 1: To me, the Yankees. I was just in New York
- 13:53Speaker 1: for a week. By the way, Nick crazy. They're crazy
- 13:57Speaker 1: about the Knicks coming off the championship. But I think
- 14:00Speaker 1: the Dodgers... have stolen the Yankees' thunder. When I was
- 14:04Speaker 1: a kid growing up, young in sports broadcasting, the Yankees
- 14:07Speaker 1: were the team with the money. The Yankees got all
- 14:09Speaker 1: the superstars. The Yankees were America's team. They took a
- 14:13Speaker 1: weird dip in the 80s, though. That was the only
- 14:15Speaker 1: bad years they had. And look, they're still going to
- 14:18Speaker 1: make the playoffs. They may win the world championship, but
- 14:20Speaker 1: it just doesn't seem like the Yankees are what the
- 14:23Speaker 1: Yankees have been. It's the Dodgers now. The Dodgers are
- 14:25Speaker 1: the talking point.
- 14:26Speaker 3: If you watch any Major League Baseball and people talk
- 14:28Speaker 3: about payrolls, And where is the bar right now?
- 14:31Speaker 1: It is the Dodgers. I know the Dodgers are 1-4
- 14:33Speaker 1: against the Braves. Braves fans love that. But just wearing
- 14:35Speaker 1: sports hats. I see a ton more Dodger hats now
- 14:38Speaker 1: than I used to see Yankee hats. I agree. I mean,
- 14:41Speaker 1: you were not even a baseball fan. You have a
- 14:43Speaker 1: Yankees hat on. Alex Cooper. Oh, what did she do
- 14:46Speaker 1: to you? Because I know you're a big fan. I was,
- 14:48Speaker 1: but she's pregnant, so it's been a tough nine months
- 14:52Speaker 1: of pregnancy. I thought you liked the pregnant women. I do.
- 14:54Speaker 1: They glow. It's the beautiful part of life. I just
- 14:57Speaker 1: don't think she is... It seems like she has jumped
- 15:00Speaker 1: the shark and all of her. So since she left Barstool?
- 15:04Speaker 1: They'll never make the money back the deal they gave
- 15:06Speaker 1: her Sirius XM. No, no, no. That's sort of when
- 15:08Speaker 1: it started to go down, I think, the big deal
- 15:11Speaker 1: at Sirius XM. And I think the big deal that
- 15:13Speaker 1: Stern got from Sirius XM, Howard Stern. I agree. I
- 15:16Speaker 1: think he went down at that point, too. But it
- 15:18Speaker 1: took him a while.
- 15:19Speaker 5: It did.
- 15:19Speaker 1: But, I mean, they progressively get a little lazier and
- 15:23Speaker 1: do less work. And she's got more going on in
- 15:24Speaker 1: her life now. She's not single. She's married. But it's
- 15:27Speaker 1: just not as good as it was. And then for me,
- 15:30Speaker 1: it's McDonald's. Do you guys remember when you were a
- 15:33Speaker 1: kid how cool it was to go to McDonald's? I
- 15:35Speaker 1: used to love it. How good it was to go
- 15:36Speaker 1: to McDonald's. But I remember my parents never wanted to
- 15:37Speaker 1: take me, so they probably feel that way.
- 15:39Speaker 2: I do.
- 15:39Speaker 3: We didn't have nearly as many options. But I will
- 15:41Speaker 3: say this, and I only have McDonald's, I don't know,
- 15:44Speaker 3: every six months maybe. It seems consistent, though. It seems
- 15:47Speaker 3: like the same, like I can taste the cheeseburger right now.
- 15:50Speaker 3: So I think the consistency has been there. Like the
- 15:53Speaker 3: wow factor of going to McDonald's is what it was.
- 15:56Speaker 1: I remember going in, I vividly remember this. Me and
- 15:58Speaker 1: a buddy, we would go in and order three of
- 16:01Speaker 1: the 20 McNuggets, so 60 McNuggets, and we would split
- 16:04Speaker 1: it in half, 30 and 30. I mean, sitting down
- 16:06Speaker 1: eating 30 chicken McNuggets. When you're a teenager, I mean.
- 16:10Speaker 1: I used to get a, what's the biggest nugget, 20?
- 16:13Speaker 1: 20 was back in the day.
- 16:15Speaker 6: What was your favorite nugget shape?
- 16:17Speaker 1: I didn't really care.
- 16:18Speaker 6: Well, all the chicken nuggets, they're set shapes. You got
- 16:21Speaker 6: the boot.
- 16:21Speaker 3: Do you know how many nuggets it takes to consume
- 16:24Speaker 3: an entire beak from a chicken?
- 16:26Speaker 1: Oh, not many.
- 16:27Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 16:28Speaker 6: I'm going to guess like two.
- 16:29Speaker 1: How many would you get? And the talons? I would
- 16:31Speaker 1: get the 20 and a Big Mac meal.
- 16:34Speaker 5: Oh, yeah.
- 16:34Speaker 1: I'd get a Big Mac, large fry, large Coke. Is
- 16:37Speaker 1: that when you had a gut? You were a teenager, right?
- 16:39Speaker 1: That's back when I was a teenager. I was burning
- 16:41Speaker 1: left and right. I got a gut now.
- 16:43Speaker 6: Housing talons.
- 16:44Speaker 1: It just seems like the little.
- 16:47Speaker 1: Thin piece of meat. It's smaller than it used to be.
- 16:51Speaker 1: The Big Mac's not what it used to be. McDonald's.
- 16:53Speaker 1: I haven't had their burger in quite a while. The
- 16:55Speaker 1: fries are still good. The fries are still good. I
- 16:57Speaker 1: haven't had their burger. Everything else, down. I occasionally go
- 17:01Speaker 1: through and get an Egg McMuffin at breakfast, but I
- 17:03Speaker 1: haven't had their burger.
- 17:04Speaker 3: Unfortunately, I think a lot of these people are starting
- 17:06Speaker 3: to get smaller on the portions. You guys saw the
- 17:08Speaker 3: sandwich I got from Jimmy John's the other day.
- 17:09Speaker 1: It was embarrassing.
- 17:11Speaker 6: It was embarrassing.
- 17:12Speaker 5: That was sad. It was bad.
- 17:14Speaker 4: According to Luke, you also, well, at least he ordered
- 17:18Speaker 4: it for you with like none of the ingredients it's
- 17:21Speaker 4: supposed to come with.
- 17:22Speaker 3: And you only had meat and cheese. First of all,
- 17:24Speaker 3: Jimmy John's, I like the product. I don't understand why
- 17:27Speaker 3: you've got to add cheese. Cheese should come as just
- 17:30Speaker 3: part of the sandwich. So I told him, give me
- 17:32Speaker 3: a number four, add cheese.
- 17:33Speaker 1: He comes back.
- 17:34Speaker 3: He got me a number four with just cheese and
- 17:36Speaker 3: the meat, but it's like one little layer of the
- 17:38Speaker 3: turkey and one little piece of cheese.
- 17:40Speaker 1: It was all bread. It was all bread.
- 17:41Speaker 6: It looked like you were just munching on a baguette
- 17:43Speaker 6: during the whole meeting.
- 17:44Speaker 7: Yeah.
- 17:45Speaker 3: So I just loaded up mayonnaise and put chips on
- 17:47Speaker 3: it and tried to make a semblance of a sandwich.
- 17:50Speaker 1: Y'all had a meeting without me? That's why you had
- 17:52Speaker 1: to talk about your performance. And y'all had sandwiches? We
- 17:55Speaker 1: had sandwiches. It was good.
- 17:56Speaker 6: Lance had a sandwich.
- 17:58Speaker 1: Apparently, you can barely call it that. I think you
- 18:00Speaker 1: had a doctor's appointment.
- 18:01Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 18:02Speaker 1: So, okay. There's the brands that have taken a step back.
- 18:05Speaker 1: We'd love to see yours in the chat room as well.
- 18:08Speaker 1: One college football note here before we get to Clay
- 18:11Speaker 1: Travis coming up on the other side. Talked about everywhere.
- 18:14Speaker 1: I was shocked that this blew up so much. I
- 18:16Speaker 1: was getting texts from so many people, including Damien, who
- 18:20Speaker 1: watches and listens to our show every day. Damien sent
- 18:23Speaker 1: me a text yesterday and said, why? With eight question marks.
- 18:28Speaker 1: And it's the ESPN dropping the ticker during college football broadcasts.
- 18:33Speaker 1: He seemed to be upset by it. Well, I do
- 18:35Speaker 1: not understand.
- 18:36Speaker 3: I like it, too.
- 18:37Speaker 1: I couldn't understand why Lance was so passionate about it.
- 18:40Speaker 1: I don't understand why anybody looks at the ticker. Yeah,
- 18:42Speaker 1: but everybody had an opinion on this yesterday. I thought
- 18:47Speaker 1: we should celebrate it. It seems to be an awesome
- 18:49Speaker 1: when we get to the actual games to have– Less
- 18:53Speaker 1: of the screen covered up. I think more gamblers like
- 18:56Speaker 1: the ticker. See, that surprises me, though, because I would
- 18:59Speaker 1: assume if you're gambling on a game, you've got it
- 19:01Speaker 1: on your phone. You're constantly checking it. I'm usually watching
- 19:05Speaker 1: that game. Yeah, or you're watching it. See, because that's
- 19:08Speaker 1: what people said the first time we talked about it. Well,
- 19:10Speaker 1: it's gamblers. I'm like, I don't think gamblers wait for
- 19:12Speaker 1: it to cycle back around.
- 19:13Speaker 3: No, I think what happens, though, and again, this is
- 19:16Speaker 3: a bad example because I was talking about having 16
- 19:18Speaker 3: games on.
- 19:18Speaker 1: At one time.
- 19:19Speaker 3: But you're watching, and then you see East Carolina Army roll,
- 19:23Speaker 3: and you're like, damn, East Carolina was up 27. That's
- 19:25Speaker 3: been cut to 13. I need to dial in on
- 19:28Speaker 3: this now.
- 19:29Speaker 1: Yeah. See, I hate it because, you know, they'll have
- 19:32Speaker 1: the Little League World Series scores, and they'll have WNBA
- 19:37Speaker 1: or NASCAR, and I'm waiting to get back to college football,
- 19:39Speaker 1: and then they'll only give me the top 25 over
- 19:41Speaker 1: and over and over again. I want all those scores.
- 19:44Speaker 1: And they've got a plan, guys. They've got a plan
- 19:46Speaker 1: that they're going to keep giving you scores in a
- 19:49Speaker 1: way that's more noticeable. Some of it's going to be
- 19:52Speaker 1: over the score bug. Yeah, see, I don't know if
- 19:54Speaker 1: I like that. The drop scores over the score bug. Yeah.
- 19:57Speaker 1: And some of them may just be like we used
- 19:59Speaker 1: to have in the old days, and I used to
- 20:00Speaker 1: love this. Like Alabama just threw an incomplete pass on
- 20:04Speaker 1: second down. They're gathering back up in the huddle, and
- 20:07Speaker 1: they'll pop up on a lower third. Oh, by the way,
- 20:09Speaker 1: Army's just scored on Notre Dame. They're up 17-10, fourth
- 20:12Speaker 1: quarter there.
- 20:13Speaker 3: Or just the one full Dixie Crystal scoreboard graphic that's
- 20:17Speaker 3: got All the scores together.
- 20:19Speaker 1: This shows you when we were getting on the verge
- 20:22Speaker 1: of both gambling and fantasy. I saw a TikTok the
- 20:25Speaker 1: other day, and it was an old NFL on NBC game,
- 20:29Speaker 1: and they called it the 10-minute ticker. And that was
- 20:32Speaker 1: their promise. Every 10 minutes, we're going to give you
- 20:34Speaker 1: the NFL scores. And I'm like, imagine how taxing that
- 20:37Speaker 1: got during the game. Every 10 minutes, we're going to
- 20:40Speaker 1: go to a full screen of all the NFL scores.
- 20:43Speaker 1: This is the NBC 10-minute ticker. We'll give you the
- 20:45Speaker 1: scores every 10 minutes. So clearly that was their thing
- 20:48Speaker 1: that year is people won't score every 10 minutes, man. Yeah.
- 20:51Speaker 1: Settle down. When we get to the games this weekend,
- 20:54Speaker 1: you'll see the lack of the ticker and how they're
- 20:57Speaker 1: going to do it. I'm told you're going to like it.
- 20:59Speaker 1: You'll be okay with it. So nobody panic before the
- 21:02Speaker 1: college football season. I mean, again, I like it, but
- 21:04Speaker 1: I can do without it. It's not that big of
- 21:06Speaker 1: a deal. This is the next round presented by Hard
- 21:09Speaker 1: Rock Bets on Sport and State. Clay Travis is next.
- 21:13Speaker 1: Back with you on the next round presented by Hard
- 21:15Speaker 1: Rock Bets. Here on Sport and State, Tony Petitti gets
- 21:19Speaker 1: a contract extension through 2033. Real quickly, the grade you
- 21:24Speaker 1: give Tony Petitti as commissioner of the Big Ten. A, B, C, D, F.
- 21:29Speaker 1: I mean, they've won national championships three straight years in
- 21:32Speaker 1: his reign. In basketball last year. I kind of got
- 21:35Speaker 1: to give it an A. He sort of has taken
- 21:37Speaker 1: control of college athletics right now. He's the most powerful
- 21:40Speaker 1: man in college athletics. Yeah, I give him an A
- 21:42Speaker 1: as well. The show today being brought to you by
- 21:44Speaker 1: our friends at XXXY. The mission for them, in their words,
- 21:48Speaker 1: empower female athletes to take a stand for fair competition.
- 21:52Speaker 1: So they did just that. Jennifer Sage, she was a
- 21:54Speaker 1: former national champion gymnast. She was also a Levi's brand president.
- 21:59Speaker 1: And she walked away from that massive corporate job Rather
- 22:02Speaker 1: than say something she didn't believe, and she walked away
- 22:04Speaker 1: and started XXXY Athletics instead. The T that launched a movement.

- 22:54Speaker 1: and fox sports coming up this football season what is
- 22:56Speaker 1: up clay how are you this morning I'm good.
- 22:59Speaker 7: How are y'all?
- 23:00Speaker 1: Doing awesome. Thanks a lot. A lot of places we
- 23:03Speaker 1: can go. I will start with the naming of Faison Brandon,
- 23:07Speaker 1: the Tennessee quarterback. We've talked a lot with you about
- 23:11Speaker 1: him and where Tennessee will go at quarterback. He's been
- 23:13Speaker 1: named since you've been on. What has been the reaction
- 23:16Speaker 1: of the Tennessee fans in your world to the naming
- 23:18Speaker 1: of Faison Brandon?
- 23:20Speaker 2: I think most people expected it. It's an investment in
- 23:25Speaker 2: the years ahead. I told you guys that David Gabriel George, DGG,
- 23:32Speaker 2: who some people may have watched in that game that
- 23:35Speaker 2: they played against Brooklyn Academy. It was ESPN Thursday night
- 23:39Speaker 2: last week. He's a freak five star, one of the
- 23:42Speaker 2: most talked about recruits in the history of the University
- 23:46Speaker 2: of Tennessee. And so I think the idea is you
- 23:48Speaker 2: got a true freshman quarterback, first one starting since 2004.
- 23:50Speaker 7: If you can.
- 23:53Speaker 2: Get to seven, eight wins this year. you're setting the
- 23:56Speaker 2: table to be really good next year. So we'll see.
- 24:00Speaker 2: And obviously if he comes out and he has a
- 24:03Speaker 2: truly impressive freshman season, then Tennessee I think is going
- 24:07Speaker 2: to be talented enough to contend for a playoff berth regardless.
- 24:11Speaker 2: But my expectation is he'll be what most freshmen are,
- 24:15Speaker 2: at times really good, at times really bad. It's a
- 24:19Speaker 2: great line that you guys I'm sure have heard for
- 24:22Speaker 2: many years. He's a guy who's going to make the
- 24:24Speaker 2: band play. The problem is you don't know which band.
- 24:27Speaker 2: And I don't know who initially said that, but I
- 24:30Speaker 2: think it speaks well for what freshmen in major college
- 24:33Speaker 2: football are going to accomplish. I do think Tennessee's defense
- 24:38Speaker 2: is going to be really good. They should have a
- 24:40Speaker 2: very good rush attack, talented at wide receiver, good offensive line.
- 24:44Speaker 2: So I suspect that he will be very much of
- 24:47Speaker 2: a game manager for much of September. And then we'll
- 24:51Speaker 2: see when that, you know, Georgia Tech will be a
- 24:54Speaker 2: challenge in week two.
- 24:55Speaker 7: We'll see what happens in that game.
- 24:56Speaker 2: But then I think a lot of Tennessee fans are
- 24:58Speaker 2: circling that September 26th game against Texas. when Arch Manning,
- 25:03Speaker 2: Steve Sarkeesian and company come to Knoxville as sort of
- 25:07Speaker 2: the first real test that he will be put through.
- 25:11Speaker 3: Clay, last segment, we did a little exercise on three
- 25:14Speaker 3: brands that have taken steps back. We each did a brand,
- 25:17Speaker 3: a sports brand, pop culture brand, consumer brand. I went
- 25:21Speaker 3: Kansas City Chiefs. I went Ariana Grande. I went the
- 25:24Speaker 3: Outback Steakhouse. If I was to ask you first, a
- 25:28Speaker 3: sports brand that is taking a step back for you,
- 25:32Speaker 3: Over what period of time? Just, I mean, if you
- 25:35Speaker 3: just feel like, you know, I mean, it's easy to
- 25:37Speaker 3: say from 24 to 25, they went 15 and two
- 25:40Speaker 3: to six and 11, but I just feel like that
- 25:42Speaker 3: they are on their decline right now.
- 25:45Speaker 1: The Kansas city.
- 25:46Speaker 7: Nike.
- 25:47Speaker 2: When I was, when I was a kid, Nike was
- 25:52Speaker 2: the coolest brand on the planet. Stock has collapsed over
- 25:56Speaker 2: the last several years. I don't know what shoe tennis
- 26:00Speaker 2: shoes you guys wear. I wear the on brand of
- 26:03Speaker 2: tennis shoes. I absolutely love them. They're a lot better
- 26:06Speaker 2: than Nike's in my experience. They feel better. I got
- 26:10Speaker 2: like four or five pairs of those. And I'm not
- 26:12Speaker 2: even a shoe guy on a decline, Alabama football. You
- 26:17Speaker 2: guys used to matter barely, barely hanging around the top 10.
- 26:23Speaker 7: And then pop culture. That's a good one.
- 26:27Speaker 2: I would say superhero movies, with the exception of Spider-Man.
- 26:32Speaker 2: Most of them have been bombing over the last year
- 26:36Speaker 2: and change. And even the ones that they tried to
- 26:39Speaker 2: say were successful, Superman, for instance, I don't think it
- 26:42Speaker 2: really kind of moved the culture. I did enjoy the
- 26:45Speaker 2: most recent Spider-Man. I think it's probably the most vibrant
- 26:49Speaker 2: of the comic book superhero franchises. But in general, I
- 26:54Speaker 2: think the decline of the superhero franchise film has been
- 26:58Speaker 2: pretty substantial.
- 27:00Speaker 1: I think Doomsday later this year is supposed to be fantastic, right?
- 27:03Speaker 6: It will do well, but it won't do as well.
- 27:05Speaker 2: The new Avengers, yeah. My wife is excited. She takes
- 27:08Speaker 2: my 11-year-old. They have already, I think, bought us tickets, so...
- 27:13Speaker 2: We'll see how it is. I mean, Avengers Endgame was really,
- 27:16Speaker 2: really good. We'll see how the new one is. But yeah, look,
- 27:21Speaker 2: I love the Spider-Man movie. I thought it was really
- 27:24Speaker 2: well done.
- 27:25Speaker 1: I'm interested, Clay, on how you feel about what has
- 27:27Speaker 1: gone down in the last 48 hours with the Big Ten,
- 27:31Speaker 1: the SEC, the Big 12, soon the ACC, Notre Dame,
- 27:35Speaker 1: and the College Football Playoff Committee all talking about NFL,
- 27:38Speaker 1: NBA players being rostered and the penalties that could come.
- 27:42Speaker 1: This seems common sense. If you're a college fan and
- 27:44Speaker 1: I watch a guy play for the Buccaneers one night
- 27:47Speaker 1: and then he's going back to play for LSU, that
- 27:49Speaker 1: doesn't seem like that should be legal or allowed. Where
- 27:52Speaker 1: do you stand on that and how do you think
- 27:54Speaker 1: the big commissioners have handled it?
- 27:58Speaker 2: Well, I mean, it can't be allowed, right? We saw
- 27:59Speaker 2: it happen in college basketball last year. The challenge is
- 28:04Speaker 2: as soon as you try to implement any rules at all,
- 28:07Speaker 2: then you get a lawsuit alleging that it's an antitrust
- 28:10Speaker 2: violation from an individual player asserting that he still has
- 28:14Speaker 2: eligibility and is being deprived of the money that he
- 28:17Speaker 2: could earn from that eligibility. So that's why I think
- 28:20Speaker 2: Congress needs to act and give an antitrust exemption, because
- 28:25Speaker 2: you can rip the NCAA, and I think they deserve
- 28:27Speaker 2: it a lot of times, you can rip the SEC
- 28:29Speaker 2: or the Big Ten or any other organization affiliated with
- 28:32Speaker 2: college sports to But the problem they have is individual
- 28:35Speaker 2: athletes are filing often in jurisdictions that are very favorable
- 28:40Speaker 2: to them. We used to call that forum shopping when
- 28:42Speaker 2: I was back in law school, which is, you know,
- 28:45Speaker 2: Trinidad Chambliss files in Mississippi. You've got Brendan Sorsby filing
- 28:50Speaker 2: in West Texas. And you're likely to get judges that
- 28:55Speaker 2: are favorably predisposed towards the individual players based on the
- 28:59Speaker 2: jurisdiction that has been chosen. And the players, by and large,
- 29:03Speaker 2: are winning a lot of these lawsuits against the larger
- 29:09Speaker 2: entities that are trying to restrict competition. We need basic rules,
- 29:13Speaker 2: regardless of who you're a fan of, basic rules of
- 29:18Speaker 2: governance that apply everywhere. And right now we don't have them.
- 29:23Speaker 2: And I think college football and college basketball, which are
- 29:26Speaker 2: the two sports that have the greatest financial power here,
- 29:30Speaker 2: When it comes to player value, they're falling apart.
- 29:33Speaker 7: We got to fix it.
- 29:34Speaker 1: Do you know what the likelihood of getting an antitrust
- 29:37Speaker 1: would be? I mean, they don't just hand those things out.
- 29:40Speaker 7: Do they?
- 29:40Speaker 1: But Congress is.
- 29:41Speaker 7: Well, that's what Congress is trying to do.
- 29:43Speaker 2: I mean, I think they felt good about that being
- 29:45Speaker 2: able to be passed in the Senate bill. That was
- 29:47Speaker 2: a big part of giving them an antitrust exemption. And
- 29:50Speaker 2: for people out there who really are... And then the
- 29:54Speaker 2: House has been working on it too. Greg Sankey, Commissioner
- 29:56Speaker 2: of the SEC. Tony Petitti, I heard you talking about him.
- 29:59Speaker 2: Big Ten Commissioner. have been working on this. I mean,
- 30:02Speaker 2: it's a huge part of how they spend their days.
- 30:04Speaker 2: Lots of presidents, lots of college athletic directors, whatnot.
- 30:10Speaker 7: The antitrust exemption.
- 30:13Speaker 2: If you make a rule, let's say that you say, Hey,
- 30:17Speaker 2: you can only have one transfer. And I am a
- 30:20Speaker 2: player and I've already transferred once. And there's somebody else
- 30:23Speaker 2: offering me $ 250, 000. I'm going to immediately sue and say
- 30:28Speaker 2: that you are restricting my ability to earn an income.
- 30:32Speaker 2: We usually have antitrust exemptions that are embedded in collective
- 30:37Speaker 2: bargaining agreements. So if you go back in time and
- 30:40Speaker 2: you look at, say, the NBA, LeBron James at his
- 30:43Speaker 2: peak is probably $ 100 million a year guy if he
- 30:46Speaker 2: were on the open market for a salary. He takes less.
- 30:49Speaker 2: The floor gets elevated. But when you collectively bargain, and
- 30:54Speaker 2: this isn't just bargaining. This isn't just athletes, right? When
- 30:57Speaker 2: you're a member of a union and you collectively bargain,
- 31:01Speaker 2: there is a restraint of trade. But when it's bargained for,
- 31:04Speaker 2: the government is not able to allege it's an antitrust
- 31:08Speaker 2: violation because it's been collectively bargained with the union. There
- 31:13Speaker 2: is no union to bargain with. There is no players
- 31:15Speaker 2: association to bargain with. So Congress has to step in
- 31:20Speaker 2: and give colleges an antitrust exemption. or any rules that
- 31:24Speaker 2: they put forward are subject to being challenged in courts,
- 31:28Speaker 2: and that's what we've seen happening on a regular basis.
- 31:31Speaker 3: I don't know what these NIL contracts look like. The
- 31:34Speaker 3: assumption is they're year-to-year, but we were talking about different
- 31:36Speaker 3: quarterbacks coming back this year. I brought up Julian saying,
- 31:40Speaker 3: I don't think he's six feet tall. I don't think
- 31:42Speaker 3: he's got a future in the NFL. With that said,
- 31:44Speaker 3: he's only got two years in. He's got five years
- 31:48Speaker 3: full eligibility left. I said I believe he's going to
- 31:51Speaker 3: be in Columbus for three more years. Do you think
- 31:53Speaker 3: we're going to see athletes sooner or later get locked
- 31:57Speaker 3: in on multi-year deals that become public?
- 32:01Speaker 2: I'm not sure if he might not get recruited over,
- 32:05Speaker 2: by which I mean I'm not sure Ohio State wants
- 32:08Speaker 2: him for five years. And that's not a shot at him.
- 32:11Speaker 2: It just means that there may be available quarterbacks. Remember,
- 32:14Speaker 2: we basically have one-year free agent deals done every year.
- 32:19Speaker 2: after this year of college football coming up, there'll be
- 32:22Speaker 2: two or three guys that we're not talking about at
- 32:24Speaker 2: all right now that all of us would say, that's
- 32:27Speaker 2: a top six or seven quarterback in the entirety of
- 32:31Speaker 2: college football.
- 32:32Speaker 7: And maybe Julian Sayen doesn't play that well.
- 32:34Speaker 2: Maybe without Jeremiah Smith going forward, Ohio State says, hey,
- 32:38Speaker 2: maybe this guy is not the difference maker we thought
- 32:41Speaker 2: he was. And so I think that can turn into a–
- 32:46Speaker 2: That can turn into a challenge for him. We've certainly
- 32:48Speaker 2: already seen it where Ohio State made those at Kyle McCord,
- 32:52Speaker 2: if I'm remembering correctly, who was the quarterback at Ohio
- 32:55Speaker 2: State that ended up at Syracuse.
- 32:56Speaker 7: They moved on from him.
- 32:58Speaker 2: It may be a situation where they decide, hey, we
- 33:02Speaker 2: don't want this guy going forward.
- 33:04Speaker 7: There's a better option out there.
- 33:05Speaker 3: One more question on the brands. Brown's brand was Good
- 33:08Speaker 3: Good Golf. I'm sure you've seen the ad, Callaway, the controversy,
- 33:13Speaker 3: the firestorm going on right now.
- 33:15Speaker 1: Have you seen the ad? Yeah, yeah.
- 33:18Speaker 2: I tweeted it out a little bit ago. I don't
- 33:20Speaker 2: understand this controversy. I mean, I don't know the ad.
- 33:24Speaker 2: I think I heard that they're trying to do some
- 33:27Speaker 2: sort of obsession play, that movie that went mega viral.
- 33:31Speaker 2: I haven't seen that movie, so obviously I'm not going
- 33:33Speaker 2: to get the reference. But in the grand scheme of things,
- 33:36Speaker 2: we've got people behaving badly with women, actually engaging in violence,
- 33:43Speaker 2: actually engaging in criminal allegations against them. And It doesn't
- 33:48Speaker 2: seem to impact brands at all.
- 33:50Speaker 7: And this.
- 33:52Speaker 2: Sort of silly 10-second clip, I tweeted it out, is
- 33:56Speaker 2: so egregious that people are deciding the product shouldn't even
- 34:00Speaker 2: be on the shelves.
- 34:01Speaker 7: I don't get this at all.
- 34:03Speaker 2: I also would just say this is also further evidence
- 34:06Speaker 2: for why I never apologize. I think when you start
- 34:09Speaker 2: to apologize, then there's a feeding frenzy. Like if I
- 34:13Speaker 2: don't understand why they would apologize, Hey, you didn't like
- 34:16Speaker 2: the ad. That's fine. If you don't want to buy
- 34:17Speaker 2: our product, that's fine too. That's how marketplaces work. But
- 34:22Speaker 2: the idea that suddenly the product shouldn't be available on shelves.
- 34:26Speaker 2: Like I, I saw the ad. I just, I don't
- 34:30Speaker 2: get it at all. I mean, do we pull athletes
- 34:33Speaker 2: have been charged with egregious criminal related issues that I
- 34:39Speaker 2: don't remember demands that their product be pulled off the shelves.
- 34:44Speaker 2: Maybe I'm missing it, but that to me, I don't
- 34:47Speaker 2: understand how this is so egregious that there has to
- 34:50Speaker 2: be some sort of major campaign underway to limit the
- 34:53Speaker 2: availability of their product in stores.
- 34:55Speaker 1: But you would agree though.
- 34:56Speaker 3: I mean, like whoever passed this, I mean, we know
- 34:59Speaker 3: how super sensitive the consumer is now. And for They're
- 35:05Speaker 3: bored to sit back and look at this and say, hey,
- 35:07Speaker 3: you know, thumbs up here, thumbs up there.
- 35:09Speaker 1: I'm like, Clay, though, it does.
- 35:11Speaker 2: I'm sure that it's not the board. I'm sure it's
- 35:14Speaker 2: not dissimilar to when Bud Light decided that they were
- 35:17Speaker 2: going to have like the trans person doing the Bud
- 35:21Speaker 2: Light cans. A lot of times you have a marketing
- 35:24Speaker 2: agency or you have a marketing guy that's in charge
- 35:29Speaker 2: of reviewing all of the content. I'm sure the board
- 35:32Speaker 2: is not sitting around watching every video that goes out
- 35:34Speaker 2: from GoodGood to ensure that it meets product specification and expertise, right?
- 35:41Speaker 2: I mean, the bigger the company is, the harder that gets.
- 35:44Speaker 2: You employ people that you hope are not morons. And
- 35:48Speaker 2: if people are morons, then I think you should fire them.
- 35:51Speaker 2: So I don't know who technically has the ability to
- 35:54Speaker 2: hit publish on that on that video when it went out.
- 35:58Speaker 2: I don't know how many people saw it, but I'm
- 36:01Speaker 2: pretty confident that the CEO didn't see it. I mean, look,
- 36:05Speaker 2: we've got a much smaller Brit business at Sport and State.
- 36:08Speaker 2: I don't review every video that goes out from the
- 36:11Speaker 2: Sport and State accounts. I don't review every video. that
- 36:14Speaker 2: goes out from your show or any other show. I'm
- 36:17Speaker 2: sure there are things that we'll tweet that I'll be like,
- 36:20Speaker 2: I don't know that that was perfect. I don't know
- 36:22Speaker 2: that I would think that that's the most excellent version
- 36:26Speaker 2: of brand representation that we could have. But I trust
- 36:31Speaker 2: everybody to do a decent job. So I don't think
- 36:34Speaker 2: this was some sort of larger corporate decision that went
- 36:38Speaker 2: through a lot of layers of control. If anything, they
- 36:41Speaker 2: probably are putting in new layers of control to ensure
- 36:45Speaker 2: that there's some sort of brand safety guidance. Remember, by
- 36:48Speaker 2: the way, I thought way more egregious. The WNBA put
- 36:53Speaker 2: up a video of two of their top players gambling
- 36:55Speaker 2: on a game.
- 36:56Speaker 1: From the official WNBA account. That was amazing.
- 37:00Speaker 7: And nobody cared.
- 37:02Speaker 2: They actually had players gambling and talking about the fact
- 37:05Speaker 2: that they were betting on the game. And it came
- 37:09Speaker 2: from the official WNBA account. And people are more angry about,
- 37:13Speaker 2: in the world of sports, a girl getting tackled in
- 37:16Speaker 2: a satirical video than they are actual star players saying.
- 37:20Speaker 7: Hey, we are.
- 37:24Speaker 2: We're out here and we, we have, anyway, we have
- 37:26Speaker 2: major issues with gambling going on. Imagine what would happen
- 37:30Speaker 2: if two star male athletes were on video gambling in
- 37:34Speaker 2: their game. Everybody would talk about it. The WNBA just said, Hey,
- 37:37Speaker 2: this was supposed.
- 37:38Speaker 7: To be lighthearted.
- 37:40Speaker 2: But my point on that is just the league is
- 37:43Speaker 2: run by morons and they put out a moronic video
- 37:46Speaker 2: and it came from the official league account. I'm sure
- 37:49Speaker 2: a lot of people did not see it. I'm sure
- 37:51Speaker 2: they're not vetting every single video. So I would kind
- 37:55Speaker 2: of say that it's akin to what Good Good did,
- 37:57Speaker 2: except I think the WNBA video is far more significant
- 38:01Speaker 2: and it's been receiving far less coverage.
- 38:04Speaker 1: As you evaluate the first week of your new sport
- 38:06Speaker 1: in state, go back and watch the first 11 minutes
- 38:09Speaker 1: of this hour of our show. We did a lot of,
- 38:12Speaker 1: we fumbled a water bottle. We dropped a, we did not,
- 38:16Speaker 1: we fumbled a lot of things.
- 38:17Speaker 2: I saw it look like LT was cleaning during the
- 38:20Speaker 2: commercial break, and I thought that's probably not a good
- 38:22Speaker 2: sign for how things have been going.
- 38:25Speaker 1: And by the way, our overlord boss says we're supposed
- 38:28Speaker 1: to break at 40, so we're running a little long now.
- 38:31Speaker 1: He will give us time. He will give us time, though,
- 38:33Speaker 1: to promote. He will be in Birmingham tonight. Hutton and
- 38:36Speaker 1: Withrow with him. The kickoff party at Walk-Ons 280 in Birmingham,
- 38:40Speaker 1: presented by Bud Light and Alexander Shannara Trial Attorneys. Clay,
- 38:43Speaker 1: you're going to be here tonight, and you'll take photos
- 38:46Speaker 1: with anybody. You'll talk to anybody. You'll hang out with anybody.
- 38:49Speaker 1: It'll be a fun night.
- 38:51Speaker 7: Should be, yep.
- 38:52Speaker 2: I'm going to be hopping in a car headed down
- 38:55Speaker 2: there as soon as I finish my shows and be
- 38:58Speaker 2: hanging out for a couple hours, and then we'll turn
- 39:00Speaker 2: around and drive back. So it's going to be another
- 39:03Speaker 2: long day, late night.
- 39:04Speaker 7: But, yeah, all good.
- 39:05Speaker 1: We appreciate you doing it. Yeah, that's quite a commitment. Yeah,
- 39:08Speaker 1: we appreciate you doing it. No joke. All right, Clay
- 39:10Speaker 1: and Buck coming up when we're done here in about
- 39:12Speaker 1: 18 minutes. Thanks, Clay. We'll see you tonight.
- 39:14Speaker 7: All right, see you all tonight. Appreciate it.
- 39:16Speaker 1: All right, buddy, take care. Clay Travis with us on
- 39:18Speaker 1: the AMC. the sport and state presented by Hard Rock Bet.
- 39:22Speaker 1: And he will be in Birmingham tonight. Again, if you're
- 39:24Speaker 1: anywhere near Birmingham, Highway 280 walk-ons, and you can swing
- 39:28Speaker 1: by and hang with us. Talk to Clay. Hutton and
- 39:30Speaker 1: Withrow will be here as well. So the vast majority
- 39:33Speaker 1: of Sporting State going to be right there in the
- 39:34Speaker 1: same place. When you guys showed me that Good Good
- 39:37Speaker 1: video the first time, I was like, I still, to
- 39:41Speaker 1: this moment, I still don't know what they're doing. Except
- 39:44Speaker 1: I told you guys, there's got to be, it's like
- 39:46Speaker 1: the first chapter of another release that would come out.
- 39:49Speaker 1: to make it a 30-second commercial. Like, you get the
- 39:53Speaker 1: feeling that that was the first 10 seconds, and as
- 39:55Speaker 1: Clay was pointing out, the next 20 seconds would be
- 39:58Speaker 1: the girl getting up and coming back to the driving
- 40:01Speaker 1: range another day, maybe, and getting her revenge on the
- 40:04Speaker 1: guy with a Colorado driver. Yeah, but here's the thing.
- 40:06Speaker 3: Like, if I saw that commercial... Would it offend me?
- 40:10Speaker 1: No.
- 40:10Speaker 3: But I would be like, I can't believe they threw
- 40:13Speaker 3: that out there.
- 40:13Speaker 1: With just the temperature of society. I think most people
- 40:17Speaker 1: like us, like, I wasn't offended by it. I've never
- 40:20Speaker 1: seen Obsession, so if you're going to do satire, you
- 40:23Speaker 1: better do a really popular movie. And I don't know
- 40:25Speaker 1: that Obsession's popular enough.
- 40:26Speaker 6: Well, it is, but I don't know how much the.
- 40:29Speaker 4: Overlap between the typical Callaway golf consumer.
- 40:34Speaker 6: And Obsession fans, like, It is a massive movie, though.
- 40:37Speaker 1: But it does look like it was... Because it's so
- 40:39Speaker 1: short and it has no meaning at all. Like, it
- 40:42Speaker 1: was the first part of a bigger campaign. The rest
- 40:45Speaker 1: of it was going to come out, and I guarantee
- 40:47Speaker 1: you it was planned for the person, the female that
- 40:50Speaker 1: was knocked down, to come back and gain, like in
- 40:52Speaker 1: the movie, gain her revenge against the guy who pushed
- 40:55Speaker 1: her down. She beats him by five shots the next
- 40:56Speaker 1: day or something like that. With a Callaway driver. With
- 40:58Speaker 1: a Callaway driver. But I think most people are like us. Like,
- 41:01Speaker 1: I don't watch it and be like, oh, my God,
- 41:03Speaker 1: I'm offended. But then I also watch it like... This
- 41:05Speaker 1: day and age, how's that get through? And I don't
- 41:08Speaker 1: think it goes to the board of directors, but there
- 41:09Speaker 1: were a lot of hands that had to get through
- 41:11Speaker 1: and it made it through all of them.
- 41:12Speaker 3: Yeah, maybe not as egregious as the Kenyon getting netted
- 41:15Speaker 3: in the.
- 41:15Speaker 1: Super Bowl commercial for two feet ahead.
- 41:17Speaker 7: No.
- 41:17Speaker 3: But I mean, those are those moments where you're like, damn.
- 41:21Speaker 1: Yeah. How did that get there?
- 41:22Speaker 2: Yeah. All right.
- 41:23Speaker 1: When we come back, some college football to the top
- 41:26Speaker 1: of the hour. I'll ask the question. How many preseason
- 41:30Speaker 1: top ten teams lose in week one? We're on a
- 41:33Speaker 1: pretty impressive streak of five straight years. We've had a
- 41:38Speaker 1: top ten team lose in week one. One, two, three.
- 41:42Speaker 1: Give me three teams. The top three teams with the
- 41:44Speaker 1: best chance of losing in week one that's in the
- 41:46Speaker 1: top ten when we come back on Sporting State. Handy
- 41:50Speaker 1: dandy TV schedule for week zero and then a sneak
- 41:54Speaker 1: peek to week one here in my hand. We'll talk
- 41:56Speaker 1: about a streak that's going on in college football. where
- 41:59Speaker 1: a top 10 team has lost in five straight years.
- 42:03Speaker 1: And I don't think we have a top 10 versus
- 42:05Speaker 1: top 10 matchup in week one. After Brownie tells us
- 42:09Speaker 1: about our friends at Perfect 10 Mortgage. Well, the name

- 43:38Speaker 7: All right.
- 43:38Speaker 1: Number one, Ohio State. No problem. Ball State there in
- 43:42Speaker 1: the horseshoe, 1130 a.m. on the Big Ten Network. No
- 43:45Speaker 1: concern there, obviously. Not a bit.
- 43:47Speaker 3: I really, I mean, not to jump the gun here.
- 43:50Speaker 1: I think there's only one in play.
- 43:51Speaker 4: Okay.
- 43:52Speaker 1: That jumps the gun. But I agree with you. But
- 43:55Speaker 1: there are some in the conversation here, which includes number two.
- 43:58Speaker 1: That's an interesting game. It'll be fun to watch. Boise
- 44:01Speaker 1: State and Oregon, 230 on CBS.
- 44:03Speaker 3: I just don't see any way. You go back two
- 44:05Speaker 3: years ago when they played this game. I think it
- 44:07Speaker 3: was in the second week of the season. Ashton Gentry
- 44:09Speaker 3: was big. It was a one-possession game.
- 44:11Speaker 1: They went up a kickoff return, as I remember it.
- 44:13Speaker 1: Oregon had a big kickoff return that flipped that game.
- 44:15Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 44:16Speaker 3: And Oregon, 24.5 point favorite here. I just don't see
- 44:19Speaker 3: any problem for the Ducks.
- 44:20Speaker 1: But if I had to pick one so far, I'm
- 44:22Speaker 1: picking that one. Yeah, Eddie George's Tennessee State team playing Georgia.
- 44:25Speaker 1: He's not there anymore at Tennessee State, is he? He
- 44:27Speaker 1: went to Bowling Green. Yeah, took a Bowling Green job.
- 44:30Speaker 1: Tennessee State, Georgia, 2 o'clock on the SEC Network Plus
- 44:34Speaker 1: is streaming. Notre Dame in week one. Lambeau Field against Wisconsin.
- 44:40Speaker 1: It's still a three touchdown. I mean, they're 20 and
- 44:42Speaker 1: a half point favorites, Wisconsin.
- 44:44Speaker 3: I don't have any expectations going to be any better
- 44:46Speaker 3: than they've been the last couple of years under Luke Fickle.
- 44:49Speaker 3: And I think this is going to be Marcus Freeman's
- 44:51Speaker 3: best Notre Dame team yet.
- 44:54Speaker 1: I would agree with that on Notre Dame, but Brownie,
- 44:56Speaker 1: this is the games that Marcus, I mean, it actually
- 45:00Speaker 1: would be helmet wise a better than some of his losses.
- 45:03Speaker 1: So I was going to say Wisconsin's not in the Mac.
- 45:05Speaker 1: So it really doesn't measure up to some of the
- 45:07Speaker 1: losses he's had, but If you just say the losses
- 45:10Speaker 1: he's had are head-scratching losses, this would certainly be a
- 45:13Speaker 1: head-scratching loss to Wisconsin. We get a Pac-12 SEC matchup
- 45:16Speaker 1: in week one. Texas State and Texas. I'm right about that, right?
- 45:21Speaker 1: Texas State's a Pac-12 team? Aren't they? No, I don't
- 45:24Speaker 1: think so. I think I'm 100% right.
- 45:26Speaker 7: Maybe, maybe.
- 45:27Speaker 1: I think I'm 100% right. Brooks checked that for me.
- 45:29Speaker 1: Texas State, Pac-12 team? I believe they are, aren't they?
- 45:32Speaker 4: Right.
- 45:34Speaker 1: Yep, that's correct. Wow, Texas State's in the Pac-12. They're
- 45:38Speaker 1: in the new Pac-12.
- 45:38Speaker 8: They were the last add to the new Pac-12 to
- 45:41Speaker 8: get the nice round eight teams in football.
- 45:44Speaker 3: I would love, I would pay to see Texas lose
- 45:47Speaker 3: this game, but they're a 30.5 point favorite.
- 45:50Speaker 1: There is no shot. Indiana never plays anybody in their
- 45:54Speaker 1: opening game, so you can skip over them. Miami in
- 45:57Speaker 1: their opener. Who does Miami play? It's somebody pretty bad
- 46:00Speaker 1: as well, too, correct?
- 46:01Speaker 7: Yeah.
- 46:02Speaker 1: Yeah. I may not even put them on the sheet.
- 46:05Speaker 1: It's so bad. No, they play Stanford. That's that Friday night, remember? Oh, yeah.
- 46:09Speaker 1: That's right. I mean, it's at least a conference game.
- 46:12Speaker 1: Stanford's awful, but it's a conference game. 8 o'clock ESPN
- 46:14Speaker 1: on a Friday night out at Stanford. But Stanford could
- 46:17Speaker 1: be one of the worst teams in college football.
- 46:19Speaker 3: It'll be interesting if Stanford goes out and plays, like,
- 46:21Speaker 3: really good football this week against Hawaii and wins that
- 46:24Speaker 3: game by double digits. Then I think people will view
- 46:26Speaker 3: it a little more interesting. But right now, at least
- 46:29Speaker 3: the number is 24.5 Miami on the road.
- 46:32Speaker 1: Missouri State and Texas A & M, no worries for
- 46:35Speaker 1: the Aggies there. 6 o'clock on ESPN. Let's skip number
- 46:38Speaker 1: 9 and go to number 10, Oklahoma, who they opened
- 46:42Speaker 1: with UTEP. No worries there. The biggest concern, though, is
- 46:45Speaker 1: Louisville and Ole Miss. Yeah, that's the only one that's
- 46:48Speaker 1: in play.
- 46:48Speaker 3: You know, if LSU was technically a top-10 team, then
- 46:51Speaker 3: I think you could make the argument that Clemson under
- 46:54Speaker 3: a double-digit– dog right now getting nine and a half
- 46:57Speaker 3: points could be that team.
- 46:58Speaker 1: But I think right now it is Louisville.
- 47:00Speaker 3: I mean, I think Ole Miss is going to win
- 47:01Speaker 3: this game, but man, that number six and a half,
- 47:03Speaker 3: the pressure on Pete Golding, everybody's talking Louisville, maybe the
- 47:06Speaker 3: second best team in the ACC.
- 47:08Speaker 7: I don't know.
- 47:09Speaker 1: Do you guys feel an upset there? I am concerned
- 47:13Speaker 1: about it for sure.
- 47:14Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 47:14Speaker 1: I mean, if I'm an Ole Miss fan, I'm not comfortable.
- 47:16Speaker 3: No.
- 47:18Speaker 1: But I just look at it Do we have the
- 47:20Speaker 1: better quarterback? 100% you got the better quarterback, right? Do
- 47:23Speaker 1: we have the better running back? 100% you got the
- 47:25Speaker 1: better running back. Do I have the better roster? 100%
- 47:28Speaker 1: I got the better roster. Do I have the better
- 47:30Speaker 1: head coach? Maybe one day, but I think people respect
- 47:33Speaker 1: Jeff Brown.
- 47:34Speaker 3: I think people would go Jeff Brown right now over
- 47:36Speaker 3: Pete Golding. You know, this is one of those situations
- 47:39Speaker 3: where I love to see the chaos early, but I
- 47:41Speaker 3: don't want to see Pete Golding. This would be so
- 47:43Speaker 3: uncomfortable for him to lose this game. Like, I want
- 47:45Speaker 3: to see Lane Kiffin lose his. Back to, I'd love
- 47:48Speaker 3: to see Sark as a 30-point favorite lose to Texas State.
- 47:50Speaker 3: I don't want to see Golding lose this game. That
- 47:52Speaker 3: is going to be awful.
- 47:53Speaker 1: Yeah, and it's such a tough game. It is remarkable
- 47:56Speaker 1: that's the only top 25 matchup we have in week one.
- 47:58Speaker 1: I discovered that last week when I was going through
- 48:01Speaker 1: the schedule. I'm like, man, we've got a week one
- 48:03Speaker 1: with one top 25 matchup. I did not know that
- 48:06Speaker 1: we'd lost a top 10 team, a loss. in five
- 48:10Speaker 1: straight years. Some of that is, I mean, we had
- 48:12Speaker 1: Texas and Ohio State playing each other last year, so
- 48:14Speaker 1: we're going to have a top 10 team lose. LSU
- 48:16Speaker 1: and Clemson were playing each other last year, too. So
- 48:19Speaker 1: some of that has just been we've had top 10 battles.
- 48:21Speaker 1: We have better schedules.
- 48:22Speaker 3: LSU, USC two years ago might have been in that
- 48:25Speaker 3: same situation.
- 48:26Speaker 1: Yeah, not the case. Not the case this year. So
- 48:28Speaker 1: Ole Miss is the only one that could keep that
- 48:31Speaker 1: streak alive and take it to six. Here's what is
- 48:34Speaker 1: happening at Ohio State. They're doing a makeover. of the
- 48:39Speaker 1: U at Ohio State. And I want your take on
- 48:43Speaker 1: these filled suites that are popping up now. They've put
- 48:47Speaker 1: these filled suites in at the end zone at Ohio State.
- 48:52Speaker 1: Auburn has, I think, four or maybe six that they
- 48:54Speaker 1: have in the corners at Jordan-Hare Stadium.
- 48:56Speaker 3: It's like a small refrigerator.
- 48:58Speaker 1: It looks janky. Twelve seats are in there. Eight standing
- 49:03Speaker 1: room only. You can get 20 in there.
- 49:05Speaker 3: If you want to go to a game for a
- 49:07Speaker 3: social event to not watch a game, that's what you want.
- 49:09Speaker 1: Boy, it just looks janky, though, doesn't it? Give me
- 49:12Speaker 1: Forrester's microphone. Point of view is terrible. Okay, they're on
- 49:15Speaker 1: the end zone. Forrester, you see this one camera guy?
- 49:18Speaker 1: For an Ohio State, those dotted lines are for the
- 49:21Speaker 1: media there. How crowded would that end zone be?
- 49:23Speaker 5: Well, that's my first thought. What does it look like
- 49:26Speaker 5: behind that end zone? Are they going to start a
- 49:29Speaker 5: policy where you can only shoot from the sidelines? There
- 49:32Speaker 5: are some stadiums where that's the case.
- 49:35Speaker 1: Yeah, like South Carolina and LSU, didn't you have to
- 49:37Speaker 1: shoot from your knees in the end zone, Scott?
- 49:39Speaker 5: Well, at South Carolina specifically, you cannot shoot from the
- 49:43Speaker 5: end zone at all.
- 49:44Speaker 1: Just not enough room.
- 49:45Speaker 5: Yeah, there's not enough between the back line and the hedges.
- 49:48Speaker 1: Yeah, but at LSU, you've got to be on your knees, right?
- 49:50Speaker 5: You've got to be on your knees.
- 49:51Speaker 1: Because the seats are so low.
- 49:52Speaker 3: But nobody's going to pay for these suites if the
- 49:54Speaker 3: media isn't proud of you.
- 49:58Speaker 1: $ 142, 000 a year is what you're paying for these suites. Oh,
- 50:00Speaker 1: thank you.
- 50:01Speaker 5: Yeah, I bet you they're not letting the media shoot
- 50:03Speaker 5: from the end zone then.
- 50:04Speaker 8: Scott, were you still shooting games at Jordan-Hare when they
- 50:07Speaker 8: installed the field-level suites?
- 50:09Speaker 4: No.
- 50:09Speaker 5: Okay.
- 50:10Speaker 8: So my most recent time shooting games was 2024 when
- 50:14Speaker 8: I was still with 3340.
- 50:15Speaker 6: And they have field level suites, at least in.
- 50:19Speaker 1: Corners of the end zone for sure.
- 50:21Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 50:21Speaker 8: Down, down on the side of the field where Auburn
- 50:23Speaker 8: runs out of, they don't have them on the other
- 50:25Speaker 8: end and it is tall enough where you should be
- 50:29Speaker 8: able to stand. And you used to be able to
- 50:32Speaker 8: stand to shoot the games as a photographer and And now,
- 50:35Speaker 8: because of how much money that people are paying for
- 50:38Speaker 8: those two corner field level suites, they have an employee
- 50:42Speaker 8: from the university that just stands down there with game
- 50:44Speaker 8: day ops and yells at the media members to go
- 50:47Speaker 8: down to their knees and shoot games because of how
- 50:49Speaker 8: much money they're paying.
- 50:50Speaker 1: Get down, get down. But even the Jerry World, Mercedes-Benz Stadium,
- 50:55Speaker 1: I don't like those field suites.
- 50:57Speaker 5: Do you?
- 50:58Speaker 4: No.
- 50:59Speaker 3: And I've never been in one, but mercedes-benz i've been
- 51:03Speaker 3: down there yeah during falcons games.
- 51:06Speaker 1: It's different in nfl game nfl game keeps the sidelines
- 51:08Speaker 1: empty like college games there's a million people on the
- 51:11Speaker 1: sidelines yeah but i'm still saying the point of view
- 51:13Speaker 1: is not it's not great but you can at least
- 51:15Speaker 1: see it in the nfl games and the.
- 51:17Speaker 5: College understood the ones at jerry i don't either they
- 51:20Speaker 5: sit so low it's almost they're underground yeah they're below
- 51:23Speaker 5: the playing circle it's like.
- 51:24Speaker 1: You're watching from a dugout yeah And you're looking at
- 51:28Speaker 1: big NFL players' butts the whole game. Yeah, again, I
- 51:31Speaker 1: think it's more of a social event. Maybe that's what
- 51:33Speaker 1: they want. I don't know.
- 51:36Speaker 3: I think we've all been in skyboxes before, and that's fun,
- 51:39Speaker 3: and you get drinks.
- 51:40Speaker 1: And food, but you can't watch games. You don't pay
- 51:42Speaker 1: attention to the game. I've done it before, and it's
- 51:45Speaker 1: better than sitting in the rain or sitting in the
- 51:47Speaker 1: searing heat. But you're not into the game in the skyboxes.
- 51:50Speaker 1: I mean, it is a social event. Your stat of
- 51:53Speaker 1: the day as we leave on Sporting State today is,
- 51:57Speaker 1: The third largest freshman class in all of American colleges
- 52:02Speaker 1: this year. What school do you think had the third
- 52:05Speaker 1: largest freshman class, 10,127 strong?
- 52:11Speaker 3: I will say the University of Florida.
- 52:13Speaker 1: Indiana University. They're the hot team now.
- 52:15Speaker 6: It is Indiana, IU.
- 52:18Speaker 1: Only behind Arizona State, who had 17,000 plus freshmen. Holy crap.
- 52:22Speaker 1: Texas A & M, 12,000 plus freshmen. Indiana's third largest
- 52:26Speaker 1: freshman class in the country, 10,127. What has changed at Indiana?
- 52:31Speaker 1: They've started winning football games, and they're on TV all
- 52:34Speaker 1: the time, and it looks fun. I mean, it happened
- 52:36Speaker 1: at Alabama. They've doubled their enrollment since Nick Saban first
- 52:39Speaker 1: got there, if not more than doubled. You know, we
- 52:43Speaker 1: see it happen at smaller places like Gonzaga and Butler
- 52:45Speaker 1: when they make NCAA tournament runs, but they're smaller private schools.
- 52:48Speaker 1: When one of these big state institutions does it, why
- 52:51Speaker 1: not just cash in, right? I always call Arizona State's enrollment,
- 52:58Speaker 1: they have the rut philosophy. They bring in one really
- 53:02Speaker 1: good co-ed and four male deers follow.
- 53:05Speaker 4: That's right.
- 53:06Speaker 1: One really good co-ed, four male deers. Arizona State, 17,000-plus
- 53:10Speaker 1: freshmen at Arizona State. It's a wild, wild campus. And
- 53:14Speaker 1: the reputation of having some of the most attractive females
- 53:18Speaker 1: in all of college sports. At least that's the reputation.
- 53:21Speaker 1: That's the reputation, yeah. I mean, you guys know I'm
- 53:24Speaker 1: a horrible judge. I think I can go to the
- 53:26Speaker 1: floor of Bama and find 100 people better looking than
- 53:28Speaker 1: Britney Spears.
- 53:31Speaker 3: Not Steffi Graf, though.
- 53:34Speaker 1: All right. Two more hours of the next round coming
- 53:37Speaker 1: up on the Next Round platform exclusively. There'll be a
- 53:41Speaker 1: new link for you to punch and jump on for
- 53:44Speaker 1: us that we'll send out to you now. Always set
- 53:46Speaker 1: your alerts. That way you know when we've got something
- 53:49Speaker 1: new happening for you. And that starts in just a second.
- 53:52Speaker 1: This is Sporting State.
