- 0:01But what about Bow Bangor Management Fantasy Hockey
- 0:04podcast? Whoa, whoa.
- 0:07Karaoke. Karaoke who?
- 0:12OHS you believe from creator management karaoke episode
- 0:18Welcome everybody to banker management.
- 0:20That would be fun. And we do that for a holiday
- 0:22special or something. Yeah, we got people to post,
- 0:25submit songs and then we have to sing them.
- 0:29Listen, you put it out there. Maybe the people will.
- 0:31Maybe the people will want to see that.
- 0:33So I love karaoke, so I'm down. With when before I listen, you
- 0:37interrupt me right in front of me, right in the middle of the
- 0:40welcome. Yeah.
- 0:41Welcome to Make Your Management the fantasy Hockey podcast with
- 0:44Kevin and Josh. Jake Korea, not North Korea.
- 0:48Unfortunately, no. But yeah, today we are doing the
- 0:54Week 11 Hot topics and mailbag episodes.
- 0:58So we're going to answer your questions and you guys submitted
- 1:01all over the place and we're going to discuss some hot topics
- 1:04from around the league. But I also want to give a little
- 1:07little tidbit for how much Josh loves karaoke.
- 1:10I've never seen Josh karaoke before, but before Josh moved to
- 1:14the US, he had like a kind of like a going away party.
- 1:17And I I saw Josh singing the lyrics with song.
- 1:20I didn't even know he. Knew.
- 1:21So wait, no, that was my baby shower.
- 1:24Oh yeah, I want your baby shower is going away.
- 1:26Party. Yeah, we had our baby shower at
- 1:28a karaoke bar. And that was fire, honestly.
- 1:31It was so. Fun.
- 1:32I heard it was. It was.
- 1:34All And I sang like 15 songs. Yeah, you heard me do some
- 1:37Kendrick. That's pretty good.
- 1:40Eminem as well sounds a good time.
- 1:42Yeah, it was. But Josh loved the party, so
- 1:45with whatever you started drinking like he he came up with
- 1:47the beer bets. That's what it because he just
- 1:49wanted more excuse to drink. It's funny because you're making
- 1:53it sound like I drink all the time, but I probably at this
- 1:55point, especially with the Navy, I drink maybe like once every
- 1:58two months, But like when I do, it's a it's a good time.
- 2:01I'm not a big drinker either, honestly.
- 2:03Like, yeah, I, it's just, I have somebody asked me recently,
- 2:07like, oh, don't you just love coming home and like just
- 2:09grabbing a beer or something? And like, honestly, I like.
- 2:12I feel we romanticize that in our minds.
- 2:14It's just like, oh, just like grabbing a cold when you come
- 2:16home from the office. And like, in my head, I'm just
- 2:18like, oh, that looks so good. Yeah, I see, like a beer.
- 2:20I'm just like, oh, man, that looks so, so like refreshing.
- 2:22I just wanna see you see, the Coca-Cola commercial with the
- 2:25glass is like, sweating. And you're like, OK, yeah, but
- 2:30no, I wish, I wish I I could enjoy like a cold 1 coming home
- 2:34from the office, but I don't always have the desire.
- 2:36I'm very much a drink to party not because I enjoy the taste I.
- 2:42Usually just like get me aft up. Yeah, I mean usually my go to at
- 2:46the bar is like give me the strongest thing that taste the
- 2:49least like alcohol and is also the cheapest.
- 2:51That's that's all I care about. I remember this is this is, this
- 2:57is embarrassing for me. I'm going out myself.
- 2:59But I remember when I was a little younger and one of my
- 3:02friends, he, he like ordered a double of a drink.
- 3:06I was like, oh man, why are you ordering a double?
- 3:07Like you could just get like 2 singles.
- 3:09It's like more, more liquid for you to drink.
- 3:10And he was like, I don't care about the liquid, I just want to
- 3:13get after. Completely changed my
- 3:15perspective on everything. So it's like, but you know,
- 3:20economically you're getting more for the same price, so.
- 3:23You can get more, you could get more Coca-Cola or soda, whatever
- 3:27you're putting in your face. So that was that was a, that was
- 3:31the moment I became a man. So yeah, alright, so enough
- 3:35lollygagging, let's get into the hot topics for this week.
- 3:40And there's some spicy ones. Yeah, this is a look, you know,
- 3:44would you? Rathers is Kevin's baby and
- 3:46he's, you know, nurtured it over the past like a year and a half,
- 3:49and he's gotta go. Pat, this is a new segment
- 3:51that's kind of my baby, but I'm like, I'm still working on it.
- 3:54You know, I'm kind of just trying to see who everyone's
- 3:56talking about and toss that in there.
- 3:58The issue that makes it a bit more difficult is that if it's
- 4:01someone who's talking about, usually will get that as a
- 4:03question. And so then I can use it as a
- 4:04hot topic. So or it's related to some sort
- 4:07of news and then I can't use it. So I have to find people that
- 4:09everyone's talking about. That's not a news, it's not a
- 4:12question, and it's not a bill or a cell high that we've
- 4:14mentioned. So bear with me.
- 4:16But anyways, let's dive right in.
- 4:17So our first hot topic of this week is Sebastian Aho of the
- 4:21Carolina Hurricanes. Look, I wouldn't be shocked if
- 4:24next weekend's up as one of our bylaws, but he hasn't yet.
- 4:27So I put him as a hot topic. He's been awful.
- 4:30And everyone's wondering like, what do I do with Aho?
- 4:32Like is he just cooked? Like the Rod curse finally got
- 4:36to him, you know, like what's going on?
- 4:38Kevin, are you, are you worried at all about Sebastian Aho?
- 4:41No, not worried at all. We we see star players go
- 4:44through something like this all the time.
- 4:46It's just just happened to virus right now.
- 4:48It's happened to other players throughout the season.
- 4:51I when it's guys of this caliber that they have such a big sample
- 4:54size of like, you know, this delivery year on year and year,
- 4:57I don't get worried. I think Sebastian Aho is a
- 4:59fantastic Bylow right now and I would I would be trying to to
- 5:05purchase if I had the opportunity so.
- 5:07Yeah, absolutely. And I know in the past I've
- 5:10mentioned my parabola example and I realized after the episode
- 5:14that that's actually the wrong function to use.
- 5:16It's actually a sine wave. OK, so these guys go up and down
- 5:20over the course of the season and if you grab them during one
- 5:23of the downs, then you're getting them on the way up and
- 5:26and it's great vote goes up. So.
- 5:28So yeah, no, not worried that all of us.
- 5:29Sebastian, Sebastian Aho, There's some guys that are like,
- 5:32look for the most part it's a top tier guy and he's going
- 5:34through a rough patch. It sucks, but I'm not worried.
- 5:37Once in awhile if there's like a reason behind it, something I
- 5:40can pinpoint that would make me worried, then I can get worried.
- 5:43But for the most part, if it's just a guy who's a really good
- 5:45player on a cold stretch, you just tough through it and
- 5:48definitely don't sell low. Yep.
- 5:51OK, Next we have Tyler Bertuzzi of the Chicago Blackhawks.
- 5:56So obviously first he was a huge sell high and big name out there
- 6:00for that. Now there's the whole Connor
- 6:03Bidard injury. How does that affect the
- 6:04Blackhawks? We talked about it a bit on our
- 6:07news episode, but for Bertuzzi specifically, what are we doing
- 6:11with them? I'm trying to sell Bertuzzi as
- 6:14fast as possible. I think already he's the type of
- 6:17guy that you know you've picked up on waivers and you've got
- 6:19tremendous value from, but he's still the type of guy that has
- 6:22the waiver stick to him. So it's so hard to sell and you
- 6:26don't wanna cut him just because he was a waiver guy, was
- 6:29actually producing for your fantasy team.
- 6:31But right now with the Dart injury, I think all of Chicago
- 6:33right now is gonna go through a go through hell right now, I
- 6:36think. Yeah.
- 6:37So if I have Bertuzzi, honestly, I'm trying to, in my head, he's
- 6:41like, I'm picturing milk and I'm like, you know, this guy's for
- 6:45some reason is going off like crazy.
- 6:47But it's not sustainable. And we know that at some point
- 6:49in the season he can end up on waivers.
- 6:51And I think we're two peas in the same boat.
- 6:53If I have him, I'm trying to make a swap.
- 6:55I think you can target guys like, you know, Dimitri,
- 6:57Veronika, POV, you know, I'm thinking about my team like
- 7:00Brankov, Echlin, like I feel like Bertucci's been
- 7:02outperforming these guys, but I'd much rather have the the
- 7:05guys I just mentioned over him because of the sustainability of
- 7:07the deployment long term. Yeah, the way I look at it with
- 7:10these types of guys is definitely you want to trade
- 7:12him, you want to sell high. But I don't necessarily like
- 7:15trying to do. I mean, we never like one for
- 7:17once, right? No, I see it.
- 7:18It's like you use him as like a piece in like a 2 for one to
- 7:22upgrade to like another tier. So you take your Brandon Hagel,
- 7:25you take, you tie on a Tyler Bertuzzi and you turn that into
- 7:28a I don't know who he turned that into.
- 7:31Sebastian Aho. Sebastian Aho There you go.
- 7:33Easy one. 1 + 2 equals OHHHHH. No, but maybe, maybe a Hagel and
- 7:39a Hagel Bertuzzi can get you like a like a Tage Thompson or
- 7:43something potentially. Yeah, yeah.
- 7:45Although has been pretty sick, but so these guys.
- 7:48So absolutely, that's the one. Yes, I like that a lot.
- 7:53Exactly. So that's how you are in a
- 7:55piece. Exactly.
- 7:57All right. Next we have John Klingberg of
- 8:00the San Jose Sharks, the power play 1 defenseman who also gets
- 8:03scratched sometimes. But who also gets demoted?
- 8:06The PP2 sometimes. Yeah, that I'm not really as
- 8:10worried about. I think that was kind of a.
- 8:11Blip. That's only happened five times
- 8:13this season. Yeah, but I think he's settling
- 8:16in now and he's on a really hot streak and he hasn't had a
- 8:19streak like this all year. I know he's had streaks where
- 8:22he's been OK, but he hasn't had a streak of four.
- 8:24I think it's four games now where he's got 7 points.
- 8:27He's putting up back Cats. And look, I pulled up.
- 8:30Classic Kevin. You're pulling class.
- 8:33No, no, look, look, I don't think he's, I don't think he's
- 8:35gonna be a darn radish who you pick up and all of a sudden, you
- 8:38know, becomes like a rocket ship.
- 8:40But like, I could see him being someone who sticks onto my team
- 8:43longer than I expected. Yeah, but I I still think he's
- 8:48one of the one of the lowest end power play 1 quarterbacks
- 8:51available in fantasy. I think like what's, what's
- 8:54another that? Would take him over.
- 8:57I would take him over like whoever's quarterbacking
- 9:00Toronto's power play right now if.
- 9:02It's barely There's no guy quarterbacking Toronto power
- 9:05play. That's, I guess there's that.
- 9:07Who would I take him over? I would take him over.
- 9:09Anyone quarterbacking Phillies power play I take.
- 9:12Yeah, but that's you're, you're literally painting the bottom of
- 9:15the barrel right now like that. There's no guys that are
- 9:17usually. There.
- 9:18OK, Let me think of someone who's actually worth rostering
- 9:20that I would take him over. Yeah, that's a power play.
- 9:22One quarterback who would take him over.
- 9:27Calgary's powerfully on quarterback.
- 9:30Rasmus Anderson. Yeah, I mean, no, but.
- 9:34No, you're not. No, not right now.
- 9:36No, obviously not right now, but I wouldn't be surprised if in
- 9:38like a month I'm happy you're having clean big than Anderson.
- 9:41No, I think, I think Anderson has too much of the Black Cats.
- 9:44First of all, just favor that. It really is.
- 9:46That's why I was trying to think of guys who are like just on the
- 9:49points wise and. Also, just like good too.
- 9:51I'm just saying I feel like Josh and I are on opposite ends of
- 9:54the spectrum on this Klingberg one.
- 9:56I think he's more optimistic than I am, but within the
- 9:59expectations. But it's just hard, like you see
- 10:01a guy put up 7 points in four games with the back, so he's
- 10:04been hitting and blocking and I know that, but he's.
- 10:05He has games like that at certain points to like where
- 10:08you're like, OK, he's doing that.
- 10:10And then Jake talked about in the beginning of the season like
- 10:12he wants to change his game or whatever.
- 10:14Then he just. Going back to zeros, no, I'm
- 10:16definitely not buying into the back cats.
- 10:17But I don't know, I just don't see him necessarily.
- 10:20I'm not worried about Orlov. Like if that's what it is, I
- 10:23don't think he's all of a sudden like, but amazing player, but
- 10:25like in a deep league. I'm happy that I picked him up
- 10:28and I'm kind of curious to see what he can do with it.
- 10:30Yeah, I'm just saying that like obviously when a guy is exposed
- 10:33to PP1 anywhere, especially for a defence, like you don't find
- 10:36these guys randomly on waivers very often, right?
- 10:38So I'm definitely interested, but to me, there's like a 5050
- 10:42chance that come next week, you're gonna wanna pick up the
- 10:45new hotness. The would you rather receive
- 10:48boom or? I was about to say I'm.
- 10:52See, I I feel like I'd rather just take the chance on boom at
- 10:54that point and like, yeah, there's a real possibility that
- 10:58climbers is better, but I don't know what the ceiling is.
- 11:00William, right now. You just got traded to a
- 11:02different situation. Like there's more upside there
- 11:04than what I've seen climber do the whole season where he's on
- 11:08PP 11 week, he's on P2, the next week he's scratched one game.
- 11:11Like to me, the I already know what I'm getting with Klingberg.
- 11:14I don't think we're unlocking a new potential with him, you
- 11:17know, halfway through the season, whereas William just got
- 11:19traded. He's young, like he's
- 11:21developing. I think there's potentially more
- 11:23upside, but I'm also very realistic in the sense that I
- 11:26don't think he's gonna be a stud of all studs, but I'd rather
- 11:29take the chance. Look, I could easily see
- 11:33Klingberg being a drop in like a week or two.
- 11:35I could also see him, you know, being solid and being like the
- 11:39type of guy that you were, like, damn, I wish I'd picked him up
- 11:41so. He'll be like 20 D'Angelo of
- 11:42like last year where it's like nothing.
- 11:45He's on, he's on there, he'll get a point here before games.
- 11:49How many points do you have on the season?
- 11:52Probably 7, yeah. How about you go check?
- 11:56Let's see, he's got 14 points, so he's got half his points were
- 12:01in the last four games of the season.
- 12:03Seems like the perfect time to grab him, yeah?
- 12:06I'm not opposed to grabbing him and seeing how it plays out, I'm
- 12:09just tempering my expectations. Yeah, absolutely.
- 12:12I'm. I'm hoping that it works out.
- 12:14I wouldn't be surprised if he gets dropped and and yeah, I
- 12:17guess. OK, here's one.
- 12:18Would you rather have Klingberg or Dougie Hamilton?
- 12:24I'd rather Dougie. Yeah.
- 12:26Yeah, I know it's potential awful, but just like we've seen
- 12:29Dougie hit high, high ceilings before and like he's playing a
- 12:32better team. Just New Jersey feels like
- 12:34you're every week you cross over a different star player that's
- 12:37no longer playing for them and then at a certain point you're
- 12:40not a good team anymore. But.
- 12:41Absolutely no. Look, honestly, for Klingberg to
- 12:45hold any value or only like anything like that, I think he's
- 12:49got to do this for another one or two weeks.
- 12:51If he can be, you know, this good for another one or two
- 12:54weeks, then we're getting into conversation.
- 12:55OK, this is a serious as serious asset that could stick to your
- 12:59team for a while or it just is 1 hot week.
- 13:01So we'll see what happens. But in a lot of leagues, you
- 13:04gotta make the pick up before they become a certified.
- 13:07Yeah, you hold just to take the shot.
- 13:09So that's what I did, but we'll see what happens.
- 13:12All right, next, we've got Alex talk.
- 13:14This name pops up everywhere and I feel like, I don't know about
- 13:18you, Kevin, but I feel like I'm lower on him than pretty much
- 13:20anyone who's talking about him And the thing that keeps.
- 13:22Putting on him. Putting up points and like
- 13:25jackets and stuff and it's like making me look silly for my
- 13:28opinion, but it's just he will never be powerfully one.
- 13:30Like he gets it like here and there when there's injuries, but
- 13:33like the coaching staff clearly does not want him there.
- 13:36And Buffalo is not a good team. Like he shouldn't be.
- 13:40He his deployment and like the type of that he's a bad player,
- 13:43but just who he is and his deployment should not be leading
- 13:46to the point production that he's getting right now.
- 13:48Yeah, I love his back. Is that I've never said bad
- 13:50stuff about he's he's a solid back cats guy.
- 13:53But people are always like, should I do Alex Tuck or this
- 13:55power play one guy? And I'm always like, for the
- 13:58most part, it's the power play one guy.
- 13:59You know, like, obviously like that's not a blanket statement,
- 14:02but usually it's a guy who's like similar but just has
- 14:04probably 1. So that's why I felt the need to
- 14:06to mention him as a hot topic. No, he's definitely like
- 14:09relevant in the conversation to like over the last, over the
- 14:12last month. He's at almost a point per game,
- 14:15which is not nothing. And for a guy you drafted where
- 14:17you did like, that's tremendous value.
- 14:20The thing is, the power play is not anything exceptional.
- 14:22Like he gets stretches of P1 depending on the injuries and
- 14:25Buffalo's been really beaten up. So he's been there a little bit,
- 14:28but like .23 and I expect that to go lower because he just
- 14:31doesn't have the consistent exposure there.
- 14:33The main thing with Alex Tuck and why he's like always higher
- 14:36ranked than you would expect is not only because he gets
- 14:39shorthanded points, which he's actually really good at, he's
- 14:42actually one of the forwards that blocks the most.
- 14:44So I mean, we playing bangers categories league.
- 14:46So the block from the forward position there are very valuable
- 14:50and the shorties as well as one of our is one of the categories
- 14:52in our league of record, which I feel like is very rare.
- 14:55People don't usually play with shorthanded points, but it makes
- 14:58him very valuable there too. Last season he had 9 short
- 15:01handed points. This is only got 1.
- 15:03So he's due for some regression there, but nonetheless.
- 15:07And his penalty minutes also are usually pretty good.
- 15:09Yeah, so. And he's one of those guys that
- 15:12doesn't rely on on like a fight or a game misconduct to get his
- 15:15penalty minutes. It's just because it's like a
- 15:17little bit of discipline on the ice and takes some miners.
- 15:19But I, I, I completely agree with you where it's just like,
- 15:23you know, you're putting Tuck versus he's just basically
- 15:26Brandon Hagel, but like light. Yeah, exactly.
- 15:29The thing you know, I mean like Brandon, he's actually good.
- 15:31I'm not saying talks on a good hockey player, but Hagel, we've
- 15:34seen him hit over point per game for this season, be a short
- 15:37headed monster as well. Shoots a lot, never gets on
- 15:40power play one, but he still valuable.
- 15:41Whereas Tuck, I feel like it's like maybe 75% of Brandon Hagel
- 15:44is just kind of like the worst Brandon Hagel or the older,
- 15:47uglier kind of version type of thing.
- 15:50Not, not, not saying. What do you mean?
- 15:54I'm not talking about his looks, I'm talking about like, you
- 15:56know, hypothetically. Yeah, OK.
- 15:58No I I I fully agree other than it looks part.
- 16:03OK, Either way, I feel people understand where we're coming
- 16:06from with with talk. And I'm not saying that he's not
- 16:09gonna be valuable for your fantasy team, but I'm just
- 16:10saying that you can probably, you probably trade him for
- 16:12someone that would be more valuable longer term.
- 16:14Yeah, honestly, like a lot of these hot topics are gonna
- 16:17graduate into Billows in the next or sell in the next the
- 16:21next week. But yeah, I know that's a good
- 16:23one. And then lastly, this is a
- 16:24really hot topic, especially as Habs fans.
- 16:26We've got Jacob Fowler of the Montreal Canadiens.
- 16:29We mentioned the news episode he got called up and also that
- 16:32Montalbo got sent down for a conditioning stint.
- 16:35Obviously, Wanted was not going to stay in the AHL, and
- 16:38honestly, I'd be pretty surprised if Fowler stays up in
- 16:41the NHL for the rest of the season.
- 16:42But if he can be good while the other guys are floundering,
- 16:46they're gonna keep him up. They wanna win.
- 16:48So that's the the big, the big butt.
- 16:50And he's getting starts. He's starting again tonight.
- 16:52That's going to be his third start in four games for the
- 16:55Habs. So as it stands right now, he's
- 16:57the starter. Look, do I think it's gonna
- 17:00last? I'd say it's completely
- 17:03performance dependent. And there's just no real way to
- 17:05predict that, especially with like a guy like this who's never
- 17:07played in the NHL before. But if I was a betting man,
- 17:11which I'm not, I just do fantasy.
- 17:13But if I were a betting man, then I don't think he's gonna
- 17:18finish the season in the NHL. I mean, I really want him to,
- 17:21but realistically if he's, I don't think multiple staying in
- 17:24the NHL the whole year. So he's realistically going to
- 17:26be back. And then does he keep his spot
- 17:28over Dobesh? Like, I don't think that's
- 17:30impossible, but I feel like if keeping power on the roster is
- 17:32not to be the backup. So he's the goalie of the future
- 17:35for the Habs, so they want him to be getting playing time.
- 17:37So unless he's playing in the NHL, they'd rather just have him
- 17:40be the starter in the AHL. But now the question is for, you
- 17:43know, people are seeing Fowler on the waivers in their fantasy
- 17:45leagues. Like the question is, who are
- 17:47you dropping to pick up Fowler and taking the chance on this
- 17:49opportunity? Great question.
- 17:51First of all, I would drop either Montebello or Dovish
- 17:54Forum. Like at this point, no one's
- 17:56gonna grab the other guys. So you know, like if you're, if
- 17:59you really want to have the Habs goalie right now, you take
- 18:01whoever's the guy getting the starts and then you can drop him
- 18:03for one of the other guys. They start getting the stats, so
- 18:06I would definitely do that in terms of some starters.
- 18:09So I would draw for Fowler. Who would you, you.
- 18:13You start us off. Yeah.
- 18:16I mean, my mind goes straight to my team, so like Jack Greaves.
- 18:18OK, I was thinking that too. I think the upside on Fowler is
- 18:23enough that like, it's worth it to drop a guy like Reeves, even
- 18:26though I like Grieves. It's just I don't like what
- 18:28Columbus has been doing. My team is like, I don't have
- 18:32any stud studs like I have, I have grease, I've asked Rob, I
- 18:35have Stuart Skinner who's now Pittsburgh Penguin.
- 18:37So I just kinda feel like 3 guys that are kind of the same where
- 18:39it's just like they're good solid goalies that have upside
- 18:44but on teams that are not as good as them.
- 18:47It's just like, I guess the way I see it with Grieves is like,
- 18:50most likely he's not your best goalie.
- 18:52Most likely is your worst goalie, in which case it's worth
- 18:55dropping him to take a shot at Fowler.
- 18:56Or he's your best goalie, in which case it's definitely worth
- 18:59it to drop to take a shot at Fowler because you're totally
- 19:01situation can't really get worse.
- 19:03So I think, yeah, I like I like taking the shot at Fowler.
- 19:07Who else in? That lidar?
- 19:09What about Skinner like? OK.
- 19:12I wouldn't drop Skinner for Fowler.
- 19:14I wouldn't drop bar either. I honestly like, he's been kind
- 19:16of low-key really good so. I see Voltaren grieves the same
- 19:20except grieves his team collapses at the end in the
- 19:23third period. I mean, that's a big except.
- 19:25It is, but, but I'm, I'm more thinking like, you know, the
- 19:28metrics are the underlying metrics are all there that like
- 19:30he's playing better than what the team results are.
- 19:32So I feel like at some point the team results catch up to his
- 19:35performances. That's why I'm hesitant to drop
- 19:37in my. Honestly, if we're looking at
- 19:40our own teams, this might be crazy, but I think I'm more
- 19:42likely to drop to chord than I am to drop.
- 19:44Really just cause the sustainability of the results
- 19:47like. No, I mean right now it looks
- 19:50like the court is like splitting starts with group hour.
- 19:52He's been awful. Seattle is awful.
- 19:54So like it's just not looking good.
- 19:56Look, I do think that better days are ahead.
- 19:58I'm not gonna drop them and I wouldn't drop him for Fowler.
- 20:01But between the two, I think I'm more likely to drop him.
- 20:03I just think radar is like kind of been like super underrated.
- 20:06Like I I got him as a throw into a trade and I was like, I don't
- 20:09really care about this guy. But then he's been solid.
- 20:12But what are some other? Names I was gonna say I was just
- 20:14gonna say like the sentiment is more like if you're a team that
- 20:16does not need goalie, I'm not trying to pick up Fowler, but if
- 20:19your team that's been in goalie hell, then I'm probably more
- 20:22interested. And even if the guys on your
- 20:24roster potentially better, is it worth not taking the upside of
- 20:29Fowler? Probably not.
- 20:30Like the guys that we just listed.
- 20:31Like, like you said, like Grease is my best guy.
- 20:33So do I do I wanna lose like the the consistency of the situation
- 20:39to a follower that could end up being sent down, then I don't
- 20:41have either of them and I'm in a worse situation.
- 20:43Whereas if grieves you already have, like, let's say Blackwood
- 20:45and the Walstead because you picked up off waivers.
- 20:49And then do I want Fowler in that situation?
- 20:51Like I don't need a Fowler, you know what I mean?
- 20:53So that's kind of how I'm viewing it.
- 20:56Yeah, I like it. It's a it's a very much like
- 20:58high upside, but most likely gonna.
- 21:00What about John Gibson? I was gonna say, I was gonna
- 21:03say, Gibbs said. OK.
- 21:05Always the same wavelength. You know, it's actually crazy.
- 21:09Thank God Jake, he's not here. Yeah.
- 21:12We'd be in Timbuk 2 all the wave like.
- 21:14Yeah, he'd probably be like Cam Talbot and we'd be like, no,
- 21:19honestly, right now, look, I'm not a, I'm not a Gibson lover or
- 21:22anything like that. But with what he's been doing, I
- 21:24think you got ahold Gibson, he's the, he's the starter in
- 21:26Detroit's a decent team. So.
- 21:28So no, I wouldn't drop Gibson for Fowler.
- 21:31All right, let's get into the mail back questions.
- 21:33This. Let's start this off, Josh.
- 21:35OK, Mr. Slick Tastic on Reddit asked, what is your team?
- 21:39Russia starting 5 plus goalie, assuming they were allowed at
- 21:42the Olympics. So I looked through it and some
- 21:45of these are obvious and some are less obvious.
- 21:47So I'll go with the obvious ones.
- 21:49So at winger, you've got Kucherov and Kaprizov.
- 21:51They look, there's a lot of good Russian wingers.
- 21:53There's the best goal scorer of all time.
- 21:55But in this day and age that you're not picking anyone over
- 21:57those two. Yeah.
- 21:58And then at goalie, it's got to be Vasilevsky.
- 22:01I mean, you could make an argument Igor, but I feel like
- 22:04it's got to be Vasilevsky with the with all.
- 22:05The monsters are invading. I want Vasilevsky being my.
- 22:08Exactly. OK.
- 22:10Then defensemen. I actually was pretty surprised
- 22:13at how kind of like lean Russia is that defence in terms of like
- 22:16offensive defenseman at least. So my picks were Sergachev was
- 22:19the clear one and then I actually put Nikishin as my next
- 22:22one. I don't know if you're pulling
- 22:24up a list of of Russian defensemen, but it's it's pretty
- 22:26slim pickings. Really.
- 22:29That comes to mind right off the bat.
- 22:30So yeah, and then add centre, look, obviously I'd rather just
- 22:33toss in like Ovechkin and you run 3 wingers.
- 22:35Yeah, like you need to see it's gotta be Afghani Malkin
- 22:38especially like look, he's shown this year that he's still got
- 22:40some juice in him and his Olympics for this year.
- 22:42It's not 4 years from now. So so yeah, that's why output is
- 22:46my my 5. Even though we hate him for
- 22:48fantasy like does not mean that he wouldn't be wouldn't be good
- 22:51for team Russia. Exactly.
- 22:53OK, Nicholas Kronwall on Reddit asked.
- 22:55I don't think it's the actual Nicholas Kronwall, you know, You
- 23:00never know. I would be really cool.
- 23:04What should I do with Demidov and Michkov in a Cats league
- 23:07that has goals, assists, probably points, Pimms shots,
- 23:10hits, blocks. It's a keeper league, but
- 23:13neither would be my keepers. He has like some All-Star
- 23:15keepers and you only get to keep three.
- 23:16I've tried trading them but nobody's interested.
- 23:19Can I drop for someone like Eckland or Voronkov?
- 23:22Feels bad but yes Mitkov just got dropped to 1 of my leagues
- 23:25and I'm not. I've never been interested in
- 23:27Michkov. Demidov I have more of a soft
- 23:29spot for. Obviously we're Habs fans and
- 23:30also I just think he's a better player.
- 23:32Yeah but I just don't think this is the year for either of them
- 23:34to pop off. I think Mitch Comma has better
- 23:36chance of popping off this year than Demidov does, but I I'd
- 23:40rather have a wrong call in England than both of them.
- 23:42Maybe I'm in the minority here, but.
- 23:44That's tough. I mean, those guys both happen
- 23:46to be on your team, so it's you. Know but also have the other
- 23:50situation is just line one power play one guys that you know are
- 23:53gonna play be playing close to 20 minutes a night.
- 23:55I'll give you I'll give you Mitch Gov because he's not part.
- 23:58He's like Philly's a mess. You know, like, and even though
- 24:01I agree, like he's a year older than Demidov and in the NHL.
- 24:04So like theoretically he should. Pop off 30 minutes a.
- 24:07Night. That's it.
- 24:08I just I hate his deployment. So yes, I agree with him cough
- 24:10drop Domino's power play 1 and I just think his upside is so much
- 24:14higher than these other two guys that I wouldn't drop him for
- 24:16those guys if but I mean, I've got bumped up like we've seen
- 24:19him go back and forth, right, But I think the Habs have
- 24:22realized or will realize that their team is best when he's on
- 24:26power play 1. So for that reason, I'm holding
- 24:28them at all versus guys like this.
- 24:29Look, he's definitely droppable for in in some, however,
- 24:32depending on how shallow your league is.
- 24:34But with these specific names, yes I dropped me off for them
- 24:36but not dumb it off. I would drop them enough for
- 24:39either of these guys too. So it just it just sucks that
- 24:42you're in a situation where you know, you feel like you should
- 24:44be able to give value for these guys because you know, they're
- 24:46young, they're the next All Stars of the league, it feels
- 24:49like, and yet nobody wants them on their fantasy team.
- 24:51So at a certain point, you gotta do what's best for your team.
- 24:54And if you try to trade them everywhere and nobody wants
- 24:56them, even in the lowest of stakes of trades, like the fact
- 25:00that Ethan and Veronica are available just tells me that
- 25:02there's probably other guys that are also worth streaming as
- 25:04well. So.
- 25:05Absolutely. OK.
- 25:07This question was alluded to on our news episode, but easy peasy
- 25:10on Discord asked does the trade definitively bring Quinn Hughes
- 25:14up to macar territory for undisputed defensemen in their
- 25:18own tier in next year's draft? So let's preface by saying this
- 25:22by saying that Quinn Hughes was already the undisputed #2
- 25:25defenseman in the league. So I guess let's treat this
- 25:27question, does does this bring Quinn Hughes?
- 25:29Like because he was undisputed #2 but there was no question
- 25:32that car was #1 Does this trade make Quinn Hughes and a
- 25:36discussion with Makar? To me, To me, no.
- 25:40I still think it's Makar by far. And you've seen Makar do it at
- 25:44this high of a level so often already that I don't think
- 25:48anybody's close to Macar. Like I think the gap between
- 25:51Makar and the next best defenseman, which is Quinn
- 25:55Hughes is still way larger than the gap from like McKinnon to
- 26:00McDavid it feels like. Yeah, I.
- 26:03Like McKenzie, McDavid is close enough that you're like, OK,
- 26:06like these are two studs, but it used to be McDavid and then
- 26:08friends, you know, and now it's just like, it's McDavid,
- 26:11McKinnon cultural. Like all these guys can put up
- 26:13the points in the shots, whereas Makar, I don't think anybody's
- 26:18consistently like I would. Monsters are invading.
- 26:20I'm choosing 1 defence. But it's, it's Macar and I, I
- 26:22know I'm happy, you know what I mean?
- 26:23Yeah, there's a lot of monsters invading in this.
- 26:26Yeah, why do they keep inviting, especially during this hot Hot
- 26:29Topics and Mail by week 11 episode?
- 26:31What I know it's crazy. Look, I mean, I tend to agree
- 26:35with though what Kevin said. The one thing I'll say is that
- 26:38we don't have to make that decision just yet.
- 26:39Let's see how he plays on Minnesota before, before we, you
- 26:42know, decide. So I think it's possible.
- 26:45He's like I said, he's already #2 and he's going what Nissan
- 26:49car so special in addition to just being like the best
- 26:51offensive is he also does get to play with McKinnon, right?
- 26:54Like that's not nothing. So now Quinn Hughes, instead of
- 26:57playing with, you know, Jake Debrusk and Brock Besser and the
- 27:01husk of Elias Pettersson, he has to play with Carol Kaprizov.
- 27:05He has to play with Matt Boldy, like Mascarello.
- 27:08Yeah, exactly. You know, like, yeah.
- 27:11So I think there's a chance. I think there's a chance that
- 27:13this could boost him to that level, but I think we just have
- 27:16to wait and see. It's too early to tell.
- 27:18But Mccarter is also like pretty decent on blocks whereas I know
- 27:20Quinn Hughes getting 0 block zero hits.
- 27:22So that's fair and Mccarson elite shooter, he was better
- 27:25than I expected but but he's still not that level.
- 27:28So that's definitely assuming he doesn't randomly elevate that
- 27:31part of his game. Then yes, my car is is still a
- 27:34step up. But this definitely does better
- 27:36things for Connie's value. So listen, we're not, we're not.
- 27:38We're not trying to push that down.
- 27:41It's more just like Makar is just so good.
- 27:43Yeah, OK, Bertos Pink Soccer on Discord asked.
- 27:48I can't believe you chose this question now.
- 27:50I knew I would have to read this name and it's, it's hilarious,
- 27:54but yeah. He asked if you had a bad season
- 27:57due to unlucky weekly matchups. Do you trust the process and run
- 28:00back the same strategy next year or try to change things up?
- 28:03So this is like your team's doing well, but this is like the
- 28:06classic. My team has the most fantasy
- 28:08points of any team in the league this year, but it also has the
- 28:11most fantasy points against of any team this year and what the
- 28:13matchups? So do you run that back?
- 28:15Do you change things up? I'm running it back.
- 28:17That's like if your teams, like the way I feel about things is
- 28:21if every time, like if I have the option of both someone on my
- 28:25team and someone I'm playing get a goal or neither does, I'm
- 28:29always taking the both get a goal because even though it's
- 28:31net the same for my match of that week, it just means I have
- 28:34a better team. So I kind of view it the same
- 28:35way as look, if you're if you're doing everything right and
- 28:38everything's against you, you keep doing everything right.
- 28:41Don't overthink it. Yeah, it's more first of all,
- 28:44like if you like Josh gave the perfect example, like we talked
- 28:47about fantasy football sometimes or fantasy hockey is just like
- 28:50your team score so many points, but you also end up playing
- 28:52against like you're the second highest score.
- 28:53You play against the first highest score and you just get
- 28:55bad luck sometimes. And I mean, I've had years like
- 28:57that where, I mean, last year for fantasy football really
- 28:59wrecked me. I was like the highest scoring
- 29:00team and I did make the playoffs.
- 29:02It was honestly heartbreaking. And that happened.
- 29:04Sometimes you just you're you are a victim to the schedule and
- 29:08there's nothing you can do about it.
- 29:09And it really sucks. Um, I'm trying to, to step away
- 29:13from that situation a little bit and just be like, OK, if
- 29:16something went wrong or you know, I lost and I was like, I
- 29:18trusted the process. I'm gonna stand back and
- 29:21reevaluate. Like, OK, what was my process?
- 29:22Like what did I was my strategy this year?
- 29:24Like usually going into a year, if you have a process, you wanna
- 29:28put it up for debate and see like, did I choose the right
- 29:30one? Was it my competitors do?
- 29:33And a lot of that could be like, you know, where you draft
- 29:35certain players, like are you going goalie heavy?
- 29:37Are you punting goalie? Are you going more centre heavy?
- 29:40If you're in a category that has face off, there's so many
- 29:43components I can play into this so but if you're just had bad
- 29:47luck like you said in the question, I'm running it back.
- 29:49Like I'm not trying to get cute with it.
- 29:51You have to take every individual situation for its own
- 29:55and sometimes there's no correlation.
- 29:58Like your team wasn't bad, it was just every other team was
- 30:01better than yours. Hypothetically, you know.
- 30:03Yeah. On a new week.
- 30:06Yeah, just trying a rapid fire a few of these as we can.
- 30:11Francis on Discord asked what do you do when your lineup is
- 30:14optimized, barring injuries? How do you avoid tampering with
- 30:16perfection? So I remember in his message, he
- 30:19was saying that he's just like Jones and make some moves
- 30:21because he's bored with how good his team is.
- 30:23And so I'll say, first of all, don't mess with perfection.
- 30:26But when you're in this situation, this is the prime
- 30:28time to do some 2 for ones and some consolidating, you know,
- 30:31free up that streamer spots you can get back into picking up all
- 30:33these exciting names there. It does kind of suck when your
- 30:36whole team is just guys who are like undroppable.
- 30:38So, so yeah, that's my, the first thing that jumped out to
- 30:41me is just consolidate. It's the first and the only
- 30:43thing that you have to do. Your team is so good, you don't
- 30:45have any room to make any moves. That means first of all, you're
- 30:48subject to bad schedules on a weekly basis, which even if your
- 30:51team is perfect, you might still losing just because of sheer
- 30:54volume. You know like last week I have
- 30:58Trocheck, Panarin and Will Cooley on my team and Rangers
- 31:01had a two game week so I ended up getting crushed in my matchup
- 31:05because component just had so much volume on me.
- 31:09This week the Rangers have 5 game week so I have the
- 31:13advantage going into my next my next match up so.
- 31:17But the main question is what do you do when your team is stuck?
- 31:20You trade. And that's what I'm gonna
- 31:23recommend you do here due to for ones always get the best player
- 31:25available in a trade. And if you keep doing that,
- 31:29you're gonna get even better. So yeah.
- 31:31OK, Jordan, Discord asked. Everyone loves the newest shiny
- 31:35thing in fantasy hockey. What's yells take on drafting
- 31:38for potential versus drafting for the sure thing?
- 31:40What do you think would win over the course of the year?
- 31:42A team that's in every round hit on a safe floor guy or a team
- 31:45who hit on 50% of their high potential swings?
- 31:48What percentage of swings would it take to outplay the floor
- 31:51guys draft? So this is a great question.
- 31:53This is kind of how you look at the draft and I think it's as
- 31:57unsatisfying of an answer as it is.
- 31:58I think it's A kind of a mix of both.
- 32:01The way I see it is early on in the draft I much prefer taking
- 32:05the sure thing. And then later on in the draft
- 32:07is where I go for those drafting for potential like shots at the
- 32:11dart board because the cost of missing is so much lower later
- 32:15on in the draft and you get such a bigger advantage, like hitting
- 32:19on an All Star in round one versus taking a sure thing.
- 32:22All Star in round one is the same thing, right When he gets
- 32:25around 13, you know, if you hit that all start, that's a big
- 32:27difference. So that's kind of how I look at
- 32:29it. For those that are not watching
- 32:31on YouTube, I was nodding along to everything Josh was saying
- 32:34because I completely agree with it.
- 32:36It's just you'll never see me draft like the rookie that's
- 32:40poised for a step up. Why does you draft cost like the
- 32:43Connor Batards that you know, he's been disappointing going
- 32:46into this year? He was drafted in like the third
- 32:48round where that was way too rich for me.
- 32:50Like I I'm happy to miss out on that and draft like a Tage
- 32:55Thompson in their third round, then draft Connor Bedard and not
- 32:59have him get anywhere close to what we're expecting and then
- 33:01feel like I have a third round bust.
- 33:03Yeah, So I'm, I'm not saying like, you know, this year, if
- 33:06you would have made the bar draft pick, you would have been
- 33:08thrilled because he was playing the first round value, right.
- 33:10But I'm happy to miss out on that and get the sure thing that
- 33:12early because the consequences are missing on a pick that early
- 33:16are way more severe than missing on a pick later when I'm later
- 33:19in the drafts. I know that like after around
- 33:2110, there's a bunch of guys are just gonna end up on waivers
- 33:23anyways. And also depends how deep your
- 33:25league is. You know, like the deeper your
- 33:27league isn't. Our draft is like 20 rounds.
- 33:30I know that I need to make sure I have the study of the
- 33:32foundation for my roster. I don't have the luxury of
- 33:35making taking big swings early on because the impact is so much
- 33:38more consequential. If I'm in a team that's only
- 33:41starting 10 guys, then maybe I'm more likely to take swings
- 33:45earlier on because I know that the replacement value is already
- 33:48going to be really high. So you have to take that into
- 33:50account. You're making decisions like
- 33:51this. But like Josh said, like we're
- 33:54not gonna get into the hypotheticals of like how much
- 33:56percent do they have to hit for me to want to take them type of
- 33:59thing. But it's just like earlier on,
- 34:00I'm way more risk averse than later on.
- 34:03Yeah, I think that's how it should be.
- 34:05Yeah, OK, Joshua Furon on Discord asked which franchises
- 34:09are the most directionless right now.
- 34:11Vancouver seems to have picked a direction.
- 34:13Looks like Nashville and Calgary will be.
- 34:15But lots of teams are in win now mode and several are building
- 34:17for the future. But which ones are the least
- 34:19clear in your opinions? And if you were the GM of these
- 34:21teams, what direction would you take?
- 34:24So I think let's maybe each give like 1.
- 34:28And I mean, the obvious answer is obviously Buffalo always.
- 34:32They just nothing they do makes any sense versus like trying to
- 34:35compete, tanking. Um, they finally made a move,
- 34:38which was hiring a new GM and so we'll see what happens with
- 34:42that. I think if I'm them like you
- 34:45don't need a tank. They have a lot of good pieces.
- 34:47They just need to trade some of their defence bin for forwards.
- 34:49I think specifically Byrum, I wouldn't resign Tuck.
- 34:53I would try and trade him for value and that's kind of how I
- 34:56would look at it. Yep.
- 34:58I mean, Buffalo is a great on sort of feels like they're
- 35:00always not rebuilding but never competing.
- 35:02So that's you're in the middle ground of hell that nobody ever
- 35:04wants to be. I think for me, my biggest, the
- 35:08biggest answer is probably Nashville because I just feel
- 35:10like Nashville, you know, it was too free agencies ago that they
- 35:14signed like 4 guys off and on waivers on free agency and
- 35:18thought they were completely rebuilt their team and ready to
- 35:21compete. And they were one of the worst
- 35:22team in the league last year was the same this year they're also
- 35:25bad. It just kind of feels like they
- 35:26still have these guys on their roster, right?
- 35:28So it's just like, you know, get them off your roster and start
- 35:31to rebuild. I feel this is the year they're
- 35:33probably going to go in that direction.
- 35:34But as of right now, like they self stem codes of O'Reilly,
- 35:38it's just not Marsha. So like Yoshi is always hurt.
- 35:42Yeah, nobody's talking about Yoshi this year.
- 35:44It's crazy. Like for fantasy, like he's
- 35:46nobody has mentioned his. Name it's true, he's like a
- 35:49ghost he's. Literally a ghost.
- 35:51Like is he still even alive? That's what it feels like, but
- 35:54your. Natural.
- 35:55Yeah, fully agree. OK, Frank on Discord asked
- 35:58what's the best punishment you guys have ever seen for
- 36:00finishing last in fantasy hockey?
- 36:03I mean, there's obviously the classic one, right?
- 36:04Like the the Waffle House challenge.
- 36:06I don't know if this. Is like always wanted to do
- 36:08that. Yeah, so for the viewers who
- 36:10don't know what that is, it's the last place person has to go
- 36:13to Waffle House and hang out there for 24 hours.
- 36:16But for every waffle they eat, it cuts off an.
- 36:19Hour, Jake. Or pancake or whatever.
- 36:21But for every unit of food served that they eat, it cuts
- 36:25off an hour of the time they have to spend there.
- 36:28And what's funny is like, I always thought that was a really
- 36:31dope like punishment. But what I've learned since
- 36:34moving to the US is Waffle House is known as like the most ghetto
- 36:36dangerous, like restaurants, shop or something like Waffle
- 36:41House literally like has some of them have like security guards.
- 36:44Are you saying yes, yes, I'm 100% serious.
- 36:46So it puts a whole new spin on that punishment.
- 36:48It's like I'm kinda stressed out, you know, Like I'm sure
- 36:51there's some that are nicer than others, but you know, some of
- 36:52those Waffle Houses I would not want to hang out and for 24
- 36:55hours. If you're if you're watching on
- 36:57YouTube like or you know wherever, I want you guys to
- 37:00leave a comment and let me know if your league has a punishment
- 37:03for. Your wanting to implement it.
- 37:05I would love to have a punishment.
- 37:06It just feels like all the punishments kind of teeter on
- 37:09having some sort of like financial impact and I feel you
- 37:12can't impose like a financial impact for a leading people
- 37:15already dishing money out to play and then they end.
- 37:17Up being funny. It should be something funny but
- 37:20also need to play with people that you know are going to
- 37:22commit to a bit of not just gonna bail if they finish last
- 37:24place. Right.
- 37:24Yeah, it's really hard, like someone doing beer bets and then
- 37:27not drinking all the beers. Who like and I'm just starting a
- 37:30podcast with a person like that. It's crazy.
- 37:32Honestly. And then that person runs off to
- 37:34pursue a karaoke career. In Korea, that would be.
- 37:36Nuts like you could never get enough.
- 37:37But yeah, I I wish we had a punishment for our league of
- 37:41record. I think that would be really.
- 37:42Cool. Next year we'll implement one
- 37:44next year. We have, we have to do give us
- 37:46some ideas in the comments or wherever you're listening to
- 37:49this. Let us know what you guys would
- 37:50love to see and maybe you will find a way to record that or
- 37:54something. I don't know.
- 37:55We'll talk. About None of us are gonna
- 37:56finish last, but no. For those other people.
- 37:59Yeah, exactly. OK, bordering on Discord asked
- 38:02at this point in the season, who are you guys picking to win the
- 38:05Cup? I want to see houses on Zillow
- 38:07level of certainty. Well, my house is always on
- 38:10Zillow, but I'm, I'm putting it on the Colorado Avalanche right
- 38:15now, I feel like. This is gonna.
- 38:15Take I mean I feel like there's no it's demo or Dallas right
- 38:18now. It feels like whenever they
- 38:19match up whatever around that ends up being the team who wins
- 38:23that matchup is going to win the Stanley Cup.
- 38:25Right now we're recording this in the middle of December.
- 38:27If things are realistically it's but it's.
- 38:31The Habs for sure. Susanna Coupe.
- 38:35What should be a team from the east out of nowhere?
- 38:37That'll be crazy. Yeah, it would be crazy, but
- 38:39it's. Kind of like those teams OJ 82
- 38:42on discord asked how are you guys able to answer?
- 38:44Would you rather so confidently off the Dome?
- 38:46I've been playing fantasy hockey for years and wouldn't be able
- 38:48to answer without going through and comparing their stats,
- 38:50deployment, team stats, etc. Do you have a process or just
- 38:53photographic memories of everyone's stats?
- 38:56So. Photographic memories,
- 38:57everybody. Starts fantastic question.
- 39:00I think being chronically online is a is a big chronically.
- 39:05The fantasy, yeah. Yeah, exactly.
- 39:07So no, I mean Kevin and I are and Jake are all super, super
- 39:12dialed in. And first of all, in terms of
- 39:15let's say like team stats deployment like that.
- 39:18I know off the top of my head like you name a player, I could
- 39:20tell you exactly like like for the most part what they're
- 39:23deployment is unless it's like changed in the last few days and
- 39:27Kevin too like and all of us like so we're very dialed into
- 39:30the deployment. That's a huge part of justifying
- 39:34these answers. And in terms of the stats, like
- 39:36also like I'm always first of all our own teams.
- 39:39I'm sure we know back to front because you know, you're always
- 39:41looking at your own team and then even other teams because
- 39:44we're always looking at these Bilo and sell highs and
- 39:46everything. And personally, I like every
- 39:48single day when I wake up, I look at how every single team
- 39:52did the night before. Maybe.
- 39:53I mean, I'm crazy. Like I like looking at like
- 39:56every single and then I'll go on my watch list and look at how
- 39:59every player on my watch list did the night before.
- 40:01So. So yeah.
- 40:03So I mean, it's just, it's just constantly absorbing the
- 40:06information and some of it sticks in this, you know?
- 40:10With the brain of mine, yeah. No, I mean the same answer for
- 40:14me honestly, I feel like the deployment is, you know, we're
- 40:16always trying to keep track of who's getting bumped up in
- 40:18deployment because that's a new opportunity for waivers or for
- 40:22extra value. So we're kind of pretty much
- 40:24dialed in. I feel like in terms of all the
- 40:26power plays, all the line combinations, like all of that
- 40:29is like Josh said, I feel like I can answer the questions on at a
- 40:34moment's notice. I'm snapping my fingers if you
- 40:35guys are watching. Yeah.
- 40:38But also like, I'm always looking at my own team.
- 40:40I'm always looking at everybody else's teams.
- 40:42Like Josh said, I wake up, I look at like, OK, who were to
- 40:44start performance from the night before?
- 40:45Who are guys on waivers that popped off that I have to keep
- 40:47an eye on. So I just feel like all of that
- 40:50culminates into having a good grasp on like the current
- 40:52situation of the NHL and also just, you know, we've been
- 40:55playing fantasy for years and years and years.
- 40:57I would and with the same kind of like you know, metrics and
- 41:01organization that we have now in terms of like keeping track of
- 41:04everything that you get certain mental pictures of players in a
- 41:08certain way. Like if I talk about a yes for
- 41:10Brat, I know yes for Brad is like a 1.1 points per game
- 41:13player with a .35 to .4 power play points and he'll get you
- 41:17like 2.2 shots and 1.1 hits type of thing.
- 41:20You know what I mean? So that's kind of how I
- 41:22visualize the. Player numbers I feel like the
- 41:25second decimal point. And it's and it's like, that's
- 41:28kind of like how we visualize that player.
- 41:29Then you'll tell me a different player, I'll stack them against
- 41:32each other and see, OK, compare the relevant categories.
- 41:34Like I'm not taking them to court blocks for a brat or face
- 41:37off wins because it's a matter. But yeah, our league of record
- 41:40has 10 forward categories that like anything a player is
- 41:43actually doing on the ice or getting counted in our league of
- 41:45record. So I feel like it paints a
- 41:47proper picture of like how good a player is in terms of like how
- 41:49well game, how well their game is rounded out.
- 41:53And yeah, if you do that for everybody and then you end up
- 41:57just always having kind of like a player card in your mind of
- 41:59like, OK, this is this guy, this is what I expect.
- 42:01This is what he's always done. This is what I think he could do
- 42:04is just. Yeah, absolutely.
- 42:06Feels a lot like a lot of stress, but it's a lot of fun.
- 42:10It's fun, yeah, and stress, but fun.
- 42:14OK, last question Joshua Fearon on Discord asked, do you keep
- 42:17track of how well your past decision making process has been
- 42:20like sit starts, add drops, draft picks, etc?
- 42:24First of all, for draft picks, I'm always going back over my
- 42:27draft like throughout the more towards the beginning of the
- 42:30season, but also just throughout.
- 42:31And I'll be like, wow, I can't believe like if someone on my
- 42:34team is popping off, I'll be like I got him at this point in
- 42:36the draft or like, oh, I can't believe I picked up this guy so
- 42:38early in the draft and he sucks. Or even more like I see someone,
- 42:41someone else's team is flipping off and I'm like, what round did
- 42:44that guy get drafted? Who did I pick before him?
- 42:47And then I start kicking myself being like, I can't believe I
- 42:49made that decision, you know? So draft picks 100%.
- 42:52Um, ad drops. Yeah.
- 42:54I mean, like if I'm debating between two guys and I choose
- 42:57the wrong one, then I'll beat myself up about it for a bit.
- 42:59If it was just like a short term thing, I won't be too upset.
- 43:02But it was like I was debating picking up Darren Radish earlier
- 43:04this year and I didn't and then he popped off.
- 43:06So I'm going to be beating myself up about that all season.
- 43:08And then sit starts, especially for goalies.
- 43:10I always bench the wrong one and he gets a shutout.
- 43:13So yes, I always beat myself up but also congratulate selves on
- 43:16past decisions. We're always making so many
- 43:19decisions that it's you're never gonna be right 100% of the time
- 43:21and you have to be OK with that. And if you're right 80% of the
- 43:24time, that's still amazing. But it's mostly about having a
- 43:28solid process that you could rely on to give you results,
- 43:30positive results. More often than not, I think I
- 43:33was usually have a pretty solid draft.
- 43:35I'm never, I never walk away from my drafts.
- 43:37I get the most stressed in my life is like leading up to our
- 43:40league of record draft. And then I always feel like I'm
- 43:43very happy when I leave leave my draft.
- 43:45Must be nice. But they always end up losing
- 43:48the Josh. So then something happens
- 43:50throughout the season that makes it so that I always lose to him
- 43:52in the final, in the semifinal. I will say though, for start,
- 43:55since I feel like, I feel like there's nobody in the world
- 43:58better than me at starting or sitting a goalie.
- 44:00I, I feel like I've always, I always picked the right goalies
- 44:03when it comes to having to make a decision, knowing when to sit
- 44:06a goalie as well. Like our, our league of record
- 44:08has, you know, 5 goalie categories.
- 44:10It's wins, goals against, average save percentage, saves
- 44:13and shutouts. So you're always kind of do I do
- 44:18the math on like, OK, if I'm down by 17.17 save percentage,
- 44:22what result does my goal has to do to like calculators?
- 44:25I'll pull out the calculator. OK, he's gotta go like 32 out of
- 44:2933 to unlikely, so I'll probably just either bench or whatever,
- 44:33you know what I mean? So always trying to make
- 44:35decisions like that. But for goalies, I feel like I'm
- 44:37very reliable. For players, I feel like I'm not
- 44:40as reliable. They're always great.
- 44:43A lot of good players, it's hard to make a make the best choice
- 44:47all the time. Absolutely.
- 44:48But like Kevin says, you trust the process.
- 44:50But let's let's wrap this one up.
