  The crew Dragon needed some cleanup, right?

  It kind of blew up to say the least, it blew up, but Florida
• 2:54
  environmental officials agreed with a consultant.

  That concluded. No further action is needed to

  clean up after spacex's Dragon capsule explosion, which
• 3:04
  happened on April 20th, in it sent toxic fumes that could be
• 3:08
  seen for miles around the test failure.

  Which released 30,000 pounds of nitrogen Tech, tetroxide cast a
• 3:19
  shadow over the billion dollar projects to get humans back to
• 3:26
  orbit from an American rocket. An American sport soil.
• 3:32
  So it happened in 2011 as well but that was when space shuttle
• 3:38
  Atlantis. You know, had a incident and
• 3:42
  since then NASA has been buying seats on russian-made soyuz
• 3:47
  Rockets to get astronauts to the International Space Station and
• 3:50
  by an incident, I mean the space shuttle was discontinued, nobody
• 3:56
  wanted that to happen. It was you know, it's a pretty
• 3:59
  cool spaceship. To be honest with you it's a
• 4:01
  freaking space plane. It could go to the International
• 4:04
  Space Station, get go up into space and it could land on a
• 4:06
  Runway like a regular plane. How cool is that?

  But They shut it down because it would cost a ton of money at
• 4:13
  ton, ton ton ton of money every time that they launch the thing
• 4:17
  so they had to shut it down and we've been buying seats on the
• 4:20
  russian-made soyuz Rockets ever since.
• 4:23
  But the Florida Department of Environmental Protection gave
• 4:26
  musk's mission to return humans to orbit a little boost and they
• 4:31
  agreed that the potentially deadly chemicals.
• 4:33
  Released during the April 20th, do not pose an environmental
• 4:37
  liability, this is really News for SpaceX.
• 4:42
  Because when you are good with the environment, if you don't
• 4:46
  have to really worry about that as much and you don't have to
• 4:49
  worry about officials breathing down your neck to get the job
• 4:51
  done. That's a really big weight off
• 4:54
  your shoulders because you really want to launch these
• 4:56
  people into space and you really want it to go.
• 4:58
  Well and this is the next step, you know, for you and me for
• 5:02
  human beings to get to outer space.
• 5:05
  It's because of projects like SpaceX and NASA working together
• 5:09
  to get human beings from the launch pads.
• 5:14
  In the United States, up to the International Space Station.
• 5:16
  And eventually to the moon, the Artemis program is NASA's
• 5:20
  program that will be getting human beings to The surface of
• 5:23
  the Moon soon. And this is kind of a step in
• 5:26
  that direction in 2024, that's when all of that is going to be
• 5:29
  happening. So, based on this review in the
• 5:31
  data presented in the report, the department concurs with the
• 5:35
  recommendation of further, or no further action as outlined in
• 5:39
  the document. That's what John Winters D EPS

  remedial project manager, wrote in a September 12th.

  According to spacex's consultant on the matter core engineering
• 6:17
  Construction, Inc of Winter Park.

  Most of the chemicals released burned off during the explosion
• 6:23
  and nearby soils were not significantly contaminated at
• 6:27
  that point on May 29th of June 4th workers War, chemical
• 6:32
  resistant suits to be safe. They wore steel-toed boots face
• 6:36
  Shields and breathing apparatuses and they sampled
• 6:39
  soil. Owls at 20 different locations
• 6:42
  within this explosion area. They took soil.
• 6:45
  Six inches below the surface. And they also took soil samples
• 6:49
  down to the water table, it tends spots, near areas of
• 6:53
  liquid methyl hydrazine. There we go.

  That's a that's a big one methyl hydrazine where it was released
• 7:01
  and based on the 20 surface soil locations, there was no evidence
• 7:06
  of metal debris, impacting the environment.

  Free and clear the other chemical of concern.
• 7:13
  Nitrogen. Tetroxide Tech Trot side
• 7:16
  dissipates in the atmosphere but the chemicals also really a
• 7:19
  reacts with moisture forming nitric acid, corset innocent
• 7:24
  analysis, but pH sampling did not find more acidic levels in
• 7:28
  the soil so it dispersed it burned up when it blew up and
• 7:32
  the pH was normal. The consultant said, with the
• 7:34
  exception of five locations, And based upon Lime Rock a
• 7:40
  naturally, high pH material being collected as part of the
• 7:43
  surface samples which likely resulted in the elevated pH
• 7:47
  readings in the soil. Samples pH is not considered a
• 7:51
  concern. So no big deal.
• 7:54
  It's all good SpaceX passed that test in these incident at Cape
• 7:58
  Canaveral Air Force Station. It was a big reddish plume that
• 8:03
  was seen for miles and miles around.
• 8:06
  So it was covered by a bunch of different photographers in the
• 8:09
  Florida area and it was on the news.
• 8:13
  So it seemed like a big deal, but in all actuality, it didn't
• 8:17
  impact the Earth. So, there were no injuries.
• 8:19
  And in the days, after the accident, Safety advisors said
• 8:24
  that NASA and SpaceX had followed proper test procedures.
• 8:28
  And teams were testing the capsules.
• 8:29
  Super Draco engines at the time, which are the powerful pieces of
• 8:34
  Hardware that will Propel the spacecraft away during an
• 8:40
  emergency event. They were testing these things.
• 8:44
  They made sure that everything was up to par and that's why
• 8:47
  they test these things, you know, that's why we test rockets
• 8:50
  and that's why we test the the Escape modules for astronauts
• 8:56
  because we don't want anybody to be hurt.
• 8:59
  You know, SpaceX does this for a reason, and of course rocketry
• 9:03
  is really hard. So when you get into a testing
• 9:07
  situation with a big rocket or you get a testing situation with
• 9:12
  a rocket engine, you know, it's possible it's going to explode,
• 9:16
  there's a zillion things that can go wrong and they make sure
• 9:20
  that this You know, basically a controlled explosion.

  Is controlled and if it's not controlled something happens and
• 9:29
  something blows up and that's what happened here.

  And luckily the environment was not impacted enough to deter
• 9:36
  SpaceX from going further with their crew Dragon modules.

  Which if all goes, well, November 15th, they will be
• 9:46
  launching a crew dragon from Florida to the space station
• 9:51
