What happened
AlterNet reports that Senator Eric Schmitt accused former special counsel Jack Smith, during a Senate hearing, of attending an Atlanta Hawks game to coordinate with Fulton County prosecutors pursuing Donald Trump. The evidence did not show that: Schmitt had confused the Atlanta Hawks with the Iowa Hawkeyes. Senator Amy Klobuchar exposed the error during the hearing, while Schmitt declined to concede it.
The failed accusation diverted attention from Smith’s opening statement that his investigation had found “proof beyond a reasonable doubt” that Trump committed serious crimes…
