- 0:00Speaker 1: This is the Benn and Ashley I Almost Famous podcast
- 0:03Speaker 1: with her radio. We're back, Yes, we are back with
- 0:08Speaker 1: Jesse Palmer, and this episode, we're going to break down
- 0:12Speaker 1: this season to the Bachelorrette. We're gonna get some juice
- 0:14Speaker 1: on how this season operated, if Gabby and Rachel really
- 0:18Speaker 1: got along, behind the scenes, how Jesse navigated this season,
- 0:21Speaker 1: if it was difficult, if it was different from the
- 0:24Speaker 1: Bachelor or Bachelorette. For him, it's gonna be awesome. It
- 0:28Speaker 1: is awesome. So let's jump into it with Jesse Palmer.
- 0:31Speaker 1: All right, Jesse, you just got done filming Rachel and
- 0:35Speaker 1: Gabby season. Whoever, the minds that be behind the scenes
- 0:41Speaker 1: definitely said, hey, Jesse, welcome to the show. Let's give
- 0:44Speaker 1: you two bachelorettes. Uh, and let you deal with that.
- 0:48Speaker 1: I I guess my question for you is, how did
- 0:52Speaker 1: it go having two bachelorettes under your care? Yeah, it's uh,
- 0:58Speaker 1: that's a great question. Uh. Nobody knew how this was
- 1:01Speaker 1: gonna work at all, because it's it's never really happened before.
- 1:04Speaker 1: We've never had two bachelorrets go the entire course of
- 1:07Speaker 1: the season, so it's uh, it's double the work for sure.
- 1:10Speaker 1: As a host, it's Um, it's a lot more story.
- 1:13Speaker 1: It's too love stories, but two completely different journeys between
- 1:16Speaker 1: two women who are are different people, Rachel and Gabby. Um,
- 1:21Speaker 1: there could not be two more deserving people to have this,
- 1:23Speaker 1: have this opportunity. But when we started this thing, and
- 1:26Speaker 1: I kind of mentioned it to Rachel and Gabby when
- 1:28Speaker 1: we're on the couch and after the final rows, like,
- 1:31Speaker 1: how is this gonna work? How are you going to
- 1:33Speaker 1: date this group of guys who's going on different dates?
- 1:35Speaker 1: How our hometown is gonna happen? Like where we going?
- 1:39Speaker 1: How does this all working blend together? And somehow, some way,
- 1:44Speaker 1: all I'll say is it just kind of worked. It
- 1:50Speaker 1: worked itself out. Um. Rachel and Gabby had to navigate
- 1:56Speaker 1: a mind field at times and situations that no Bachelor
- 2:01Speaker 1: bachelotte I think has ever had to encounter. A big
- 2:05Speaker 1: team of this season for them is their love and
- 2:07Speaker 1: support and friendship together helping them kind of get through this.
- 2:10Speaker 1: But no doubt about it, dude, Like for myself, for you,
- 2:12Speaker 1: for everybody that's going to watch this season, Like you
- 2:15Speaker 1: need a wall in your your house with photos strings
- 2:20Speaker 1: connected to them, like like like you're solving a crime crime,
- 2:24Speaker 1: because there's just so much storyline going on at the
- 2:27Speaker 1: same time, and there's different people and maybe there's a
- 2:30Speaker 1: love triangle over here. Who knows what's happening. Um, but
- 2:33Speaker 1: I cannot wait for Bachelor Nation to see this all
- 2:35Speaker 1: unfold and play out, because it really is. It's going
- 2:37Speaker 1: to be at first like this is history and people
- 2:40Speaker 1: are going to see that it's pretty pretty cool. Well,
- 2:42Speaker 1: I mean in you're not not aware of it. Uh.
- 2:46Speaker 1: There was criticism because of you know, my season of
- 2:48Speaker 1: The Bachelor, I had two bachelorettes. Uh none one of
- 2:52Speaker 1: them made it past night one the other one didn't.
- 2:54Speaker 1: People were concerned. Fans were concerned about, oh, we're doing
- 2:58Speaker 1: this again, and that was so hard to watch. And
- 3:02Speaker 1: I think everything we found out post filming, uh, and
- 3:06Speaker 1: Ashley and I are committed to not getting spoilers. We
- 3:09Speaker 1: work really hard at that. But one thing we do
- 3:11Speaker 1: know is that Rachel and Gabby are very supportive of
- 3:15Speaker 1: each other now, which means I would assume that they
- 3:18Speaker 1: were very supportive of each other then. But you didn't
- 3:22Speaker 1: know that, Jesse. Going into the season, the two of them,
- 3:25Speaker 1: you know, you didn't know that they were going to
- 3:27Speaker 1: get along you didn't know that they were going to
- 3:29Speaker 1: stand up for each other. This could have gone a
- 3:31Speaker 1: lot of different directions. Can you speak a little bit
- 3:34Speaker 1: to what they did behind the scenes to keep that
- 3:38Speaker 1: relationship intact and to keep each other supporting each other?
- 3:41Speaker 1: Awesome question. I think a reason why why people thought
- 3:48Speaker 1: maybe this could work in the beginning is because we
- 3:51Speaker 1: all saw the wavering support they had for each other
- 3:54Speaker 1: in an Iceland on Clayton season during the Rows Ceremony
- 3:56Speaker 1: from Hell and the double breakup. I remember being there
- 3:58Speaker 1: obviously in person at the Opera House and Rakovic and
- 4:01Speaker 1: just the emotion, the heartbreak, how how hard of a
- 4:06Speaker 1: night that was for both of them, And so we
- 4:09Speaker 1: sort of saw them support each other through that, and
- 4:13Speaker 1: I think it gave us hope that this could happen
- 4:16Speaker 1: on the Bachelorette. But you make a great point that
- 4:18Speaker 1: doesn't guarantee anything, and you know that was one isolated incident.
- 4:24Speaker 1: But what happens now when you put a bunch of
- 4:26Speaker 1: men in a room and what if Gabby and Rachel
- 4:30Speaker 1: are falling in love with the same guy, or what
- 4:33Speaker 1: if the same guy is falling in love with Rachel
- 4:36Speaker 1: and Gab You know, it's there's so many scenarios on
- 4:41Speaker 1: the season of The Bachelorette that that we didn't anticipate.
- 4:44Speaker 1: We couldn't we didn't know how it could play out
- 4:48Speaker 1: and what would happen. But I will say this, I
- 4:52Speaker 1: think Rachel and Gabby deserved an insane amount of credit
- 4:57Speaker 1: for how they work together and lean down each other
- 5:01Speaker 1: and supporting each other. I mean, their their friendship is
- 5:03Speaker 1: a real thing. Um. They had to have some really
- 5:08Speaker 1: raw and honest discussions with one another. Um, and they
- 5:13Speaker 1: had to break rules or set rules because again, this
- 5:17Speaker 1: is kind of a first time we're doing this, and
- 5:19Speaker 1: they really took control of this thing. They really did,
- 5:22Speaker 1: And I think that, I mean, I would hope, you know,
- 5:25Speaker 1: for them coming into this because there were so many
- 5:28Speaker 1: question marks. You know, I don't know if it was
- 5:30Speaker 1: something they talked about together but before they came on,
- 5:32Speaker 1: but they were ready. They were ready to take charge.
- 5:35Speaker 1: And we don't want to do this row ceremony this way,
- 5:37Speaker 1: or we don't want to do this date this way,
- 5:39Speaker 1: or this group date this ware. This is the amount
- 5:40Speaker 1: of guys we want to go have a date with,
- 5:42Speaker 1: or this is where we want to go. We're canceling
- 5:44Speaker 1: the state. We're doing this like they were. They were
- 5:47Speaker 1: on it, and we really gave them the space to
- 5:50Speaker 1: to do that because we just we just we were
- 5:52Speaker 1: hopeful it was gonna work, but we just didn't know
- 5:54Speaker 1: how it would. And I think at the end of
- 5:56Speaker 1: the day, again, the big theme of them supporting each
- 5:59Speaker 1: other and being there for each other through good times
- 6:02Speaker 1: and through through bad times and really tough times, I
- 6:04Speaker 1: think is what's going to be um I think very
- 6:07Speaker 1: evident to people at home when they watch with Rachel
- 6:20Speaker 1: and gabbing. It's so it's it's great to hear because
- 6:24Speaker 1: when you have leads, you never know what you're gonna get,
- 6:27Speaker 1: especially you know, you might think you know them from
- 6:29Speaker 1: the previous season, or maybe you don't know them at all.
- 6:32Speaker 1: I think one of the marks of the best leads
- 6:34Speaker 1: are the ones that take charge and you might not
- 6:35Speaker 1: even see them taking charge. But it's putting your foot
- 6:37Speaker 1: down on things you feel uncomfortable with. It's putting your
- 6:39Speaker 1: foot down and saying I'm not going to do this
- 6:41Speaker 1: or that. Uh And I've always said that, hey, that
- 6:43Speaker 1: is an option. It is available to you. Nobody can
- 6:46Speaker 1: force you to do anything. Uh. So it's really great
- 6:50Speaker 1: to hear that they did that then had each other
- 6:52Speaker 1: to lean on. But you as a host, then, did
- 6:56Speaker 1: you find it difficult as they kind of took charge
- 6:59Speaker 1: and you were kind like trying to catch up with them,
- 7:01Speaker 1: to relate with them, to to to meet them where
- 7:04Speaker 1: they're at, or did you feel like, hey, you could
- 7:06Speaker 1: get a get the hang of it pretty quickly. No,
- 7:10Speaker 1: it's it was a unique challenge for sure. And we
- 7:12Speaker 1: we talked about how formula the show is. So you
- 7:16Speaker 1: go through a season, you know, so you and I
- 7:18Speaker 1: are the Bachelor, and then you host a show and
- 7:20Speaker 1: you go through the season with Clayton, and there's you know,
- 7:22Speaker 1: it's like there's the steps you see, and there's the
- 7:24Speaker 1: dates and the group dates and the one on ones
- 7:26Speaker 1: and then a rose ceremony and then uh, there's a
- 7:28Speaker 1: house arrival. All that stuff sort of goes down. I
- 7:30Speaker 1: think one of the big challenges with Rachel and Gabby
- 7:33Speaker 1: was if they did want to change the rules, they
- 7:35Speaker 1: did want to take control, it was understanding for them
- 7:38Speaker 1: what they want to do, why did they want to
- 7:40Speaker 1: do it, and then how can I as a host
- 7:43Speaker 1: help facilitate that and help them enact that plan. Um
- 7:48Speaker 1: hard to know sometimes when things like that have never
- 7:50Speaker 1: happened before. What I will say, and I don't want
- 7:53Speaker 1: to give anything away, but there were times that there's
- 7:56Speaker 1: there were some times on the show where things happened
- 8:00Speaker 1: that nobody anticipated. Things happen in settings that we've seen
- 8:05Speaker 1: a thousand times on the show, um, and massive curveballs
- 8:10Speaker 1: got thrown, and we were all sort of Rachel and Gabby, myself, producers, everybody,
- 8:16Speaker 1: We're just sort of like, hmm, what just happened. How
- 8:21Speaker 1: do we move forward from this now? And and we
- 8:24Speaker 1: all kind of had to work together and to do that,
- 8:26Speaker 1: and everybody was able to do that, thankfully, and Rachel
- 8:29Speaker 1: and Gabby again deserved the most credit because they could
- 8:34Speaker 1: stand up and they could say, this is how we
- 8:36Speaker 1: want to do it. I know this might not fit
- 8:38Speaker 1: into what the creative would have been seven months ago
- 8:40Speaker 1: when we were thinking about this, but this is who
- 8:43Speaker 1: we are, this is what we want. You know, We're
- 8:45Speaker 1: here to find love, We're here to find our person,
- 8:48Speaker 1: and we have to be truthful to ourselves and we
- 8:50Speaker 1: have to handle these situations the way that the way
- 8:54Speaker 1: that we're gonna do it, We're gonna be real about this.
- 8:56Speaker 1: But that's That's one of the things I respect most
- 8:58Speaker 1: about Rachel and Gabby I think is they're both very real.
- 9:01Speaker 1: They're different people, right Like with Gabby, she's she's as
- 9:05Speaker 1: real as they come. What you see is what you get.
- 9:07Speaker 1: You know that she's so emotionally mature. She's so good.
- 9:11Speaker 1: I wish I could be as good as Gabby at
- 9:13Speaker 1: like explaining how I feel and why I feel that way.
- 9:17Speaker 1: She's incredible. And then Rachel's the type of person who
- 9:19Speaker 1: loves She loves hard, and I think we saw in
- 9:21Speaker 1: Clayton season like she can put her guard down, her
- 9:24Speaker 1: walls down faster than most of us ever do. Um.
- 9:27Speaker 1: She knows what she wants from a family standpoint, career standpoint,
- 9:31Speaker 1: as a pilot like she has, she has needs that
- 9:33Speaker 1: need to be met and in order for it to
- 9:35Speaker 1: be compatible. Um. But for you know, so you've got
- 9:38Speaker 1: two different people, but for them to have the conversations
- 9:40Speaker 1: they were able to have, UM, to try to kind
- 9:43Speaker 1: of work through all this. It was so impressive to
- 9:46Speaker 1: me as a host. Kind of sitting back and watching it,
- 9:48Speaker 1: I was pretty minute. Well, yeah, because being decisive is
- 9:52Speaker 1: so important. But then oftentimes as you're a single lead,
- 9:56Speaker 1: there are situations where there's no right answer. It's like
- 9:59Speaker 1: the the less of two evils. Then you add in
- 10:02Speaker 1: a second lead sitting beside you, those things expound the
- 10:06Speaker 1: problem is probably like grow a little bit, and so
- 10:09Speaker 1: navigating those waters have to be tough, and that's oftentimes
- 10:12Speaker 1: where you come in Jesse. It is where you can go, Okay,
- 10:15Speaker 1: can we bring some wisdom into the situation. How many
- 10:19Speaker 1: times did you find yourself having to sit down in
- 10:21Speaker 1: those moments where like, oh crap, I don't really know
- 10:24Speaker 1: what to do here? Uh? How many times it happened?
- 10:32Speaker 1: It definitely happened. And you know, the the other tricky
- 10:36Speaker 1: part was like there's times that Gabby and Rachel's journey
- 10:40Speaker 1: is sort of intertwined and it's going together, but then
- 10:42Speaker 1: there's also times where at some point it has to
- 10:44Speaker 1: separate and they need to kind of you know, Gabby
- 10:47Speaker 1: and Rachel kind of go their own direction. Um. And
- 10:50Speaker 1: so it was me trying to give them space, uh
- 10:55Speaker 1: to talk together at times. I didn't always again it's
- 10:58Speaker 1: not me, it's not about me. I didn't want to
- 10:59Speaker 1: be the one interjecting all the time and being like
- 11:01Speaker 1: guys come on, huddle up, let's talk about this. We're
- 11:02Speaker 1: gonna figure it out right now. What do you want
- 11:04Speaker 1: to do? What do you want to do? You know,
- 11:05Speaker 1: there were times where you had to sort of give
- 11:07Speaker 1: them space to have those moments and have those conversations.
- 11:11Speaker 1: But then there was other times where one person is
- 11:14Speaker 1: really high after a situation the other person's way down
- 11:17Speaker 1: here though, because because that's the inevitability of how this
- 11:20Speaker 1: is gonna work. One's going to make a decision and
- 11:22Speaker 1: it might affect the other person, whether they're conscious of
- 11:24Speaker 1: it or not. And so then you're having as a host.
- 11:27Speaker 1: You're going over here and you're saying, hey, how are
- 11:29Speaker 1: you feeling, why do you feel that way? Let's talk
- 11:32Speaker 1: it out. Here's here's some advice I can give you.
- 11:34Speaker 1: Here's something that happened on my season that made me
- 11:36Speaker 1: feel this way. But you know, it's and then and
- 11:39Speaker 1: then conversely, this person is here and all of a sudden,
- 11:41Speaker 1: literally the next day, it's a one eighty completely. So
- 11:46Speaker 1: that was you know, it was sort of like a
- 11:48Speaker 1: scale and you're just sort of kind of it was.
- 11:51Speaker 1: There was a lot of challenges to this as a host,
- 11:53Speaker 1: for sure, and but like again because you know, I'm
- 11:57Speaker 1: such a big fan of Rachel and Gabby and this
- 12:00Speaker 1: was this was new for me too because it was
- 12:02Speaker 1: the first time hosting. I actually knew the leads when
- 12:05Speaker 1: I met when I met when I met Clayton, I
- 12:07Speaker 1: literally met him when he came out of a limo
- 12:08Speaker 1: at night one. Obviously I knew who he was, but
- 12:11Speaker 1: I didn't really have a relationship with him yet at
- 12:13Speaker 1: that point. Having kind of lived through Rachel and Gabby's
- 12:16Speaker 1: journeys on Clayton's season, you know, I was aware of
- 12:21Speaker 1: what happened, and because of that, I was I felt
- 12:24Speaker 1: very invested in them, wanting them to both be happy
- 12:28Speaker 1: and um as as it is on any season, but
- 12:31Speaker 1: particularly this one. There were some some days and there
- 12:34Speaker 1: were some times where I wasn't I wasn't sure what
- 12:37Speaker 1: was going to happen, you know, how this was going
- 12:39Speaker 1: to end, and we didn't know. If we didn't know
- 12:41Speaker 1: what what could happen. Would they both make it to
- 12:43Speaker 1: the end, would they both find love? Would they both
- 12:45Speaker 1: not with one bail early just because they couldn't handle it.
- 12:48Speaker 1: I mean, it's all on the table, it really is. Now.
- 12:51Speaker 1: Was it different for you, uh to host the bachelor.
- 12:55Speaker 1: I mean, given you had two batchelorettes, but if you
- 12:58Speaker 1: could like somehow think about this as a bachelor's season,
- 13:02Speaker 1: a bachelor's season. Were was it different in terms of
- 13:07Speaker 1: of navigating it or do it feel very similar? Now?
- 13:10Speaker 1: It was similar in a lot of ways, but it
- 13:12Speaker 1: was very different than a lot of the ways that
- 13:13Speaker 1: we spoke about. I also, you know, I I feel
- 13:16Speaker 1: like I had more interaction with cast on this season
- 13:20Speaker 1: as well that there were there were some times where
- 13:22Speaker 1: some of the dudes would would want to pull me
- 13:23Speaker 1: aside and be like, hey, I got a problem. I
- 13:28Speaker 1: don't know what to do. You know, can we can
- 13:30Speaker 1: we go? Can we sit down and talk about this?
- 13:32Speaker 1: And so that was sort of new for me as well.
- 13:35Speaker 1: There was it wasn't just on Clayton's season. I was
- 13:37Speaker 1: mostly interacting just quit um on this season though it
- 13:41Speaker 1: was Rachel and Gabby most of the time, but then
- 13:43Speaker 1: there were times where I was also interacting with the cast.
- 13:46Speaker 1: It's funny, man, like, you wear so many different hats
- 13:48Speaker 1: doing this um and you're you're an advisor, You're you're
- 13:52Speaker 1: shoulder to cry on your you know, you're offering advice
- 13:56Speaker 1: where you can. But but you're you're also a cheerleader,
- 13:59Speaker 1: so there's there's just so many different different hats you
- 14:02Speaker 1: have to wear, and I think every single day or
- 14:04Speaker 1: every you know, different points of different days, you felt
- 14:07Speaker 1: like you were just kind of always changing them, and
- 14:09Speaker 1: so it was it was labor intensive, but but it
- 14:12Speaker 1: was totally worth it. Yeah. Well, we're gonna close up
- 14:15Speaker 1: here with you, Jesse, but I do have one final
- 14:18Speaker 1: question for you. For you to be out there listening
- 14:20Speaker 1: for the fans in Bachelor Nation, if you, as the
- 14:24Speaker 1: host of the show, could write your own teaser and
- 14:26Speaker 1: write the language to that teaser, giving people a preview
- 14:30Speaker 1: of what they can enjoy going into this Bachelor at season.
- 14:34Speaker 1: How would you bring that teaser to life? What's your
- 14:37Speaker 1: best sales pitch to get people to tune in, watch
- 14:39Speaker 1: and enjoy this season. Well, the most dramatic season and
- 14:43Speaker 1: Bachelor history is the first thing I would say verbatim too.
- 14:46Speaker 1: I would just say, hey, it's history. Two bachelorette's double,
- 14:50Speaker 1: the love double, the drama double, the funds double, the
- 14:53Speaker 1: work for the host. That's perfect. Well, Hey, Jesse Palmer,
- 14:57Speaker 1: thank you so much for joining us today on the
- 14:58Speaker 1: Almost Famous podcast Best of Luck as you continue filming.
- 15:02Speaker 1: Uh and best of luck in this upcoming season of
