- 0:05Speaker 1: Good morning, good morning, good morning, and welcome, welcome, welcome.
- 0:08Speaker 1: Guess what, folks, it's Thursday and it's a beautiful day
- 0:11Speaker 1: and it's time for our car Talk program with Brad
- 0:14Speaker 1: Dungeus and Dungeons Toyota.
- 0:16Speaker 2: Hey doing Brad, I'm doing great. Tom.
- 0:18Speaker 3: Good morning friends. Thank you for joining us this morning.
- 0:21Speaker 3: We're so glad you're with us. I'm kind of sorry
- 0:24Speaker 3: we missed out on that rain this morning.
- 0:26Speaker 2: It was this close.
- 0:27Speaker 3: It looked like for a minute they we'll get some
- 0:30Speaker 3: more later this weekend. Perhaps it kind of looks fit
- 0:35Speaker 3: and mess again. But my guest today's Ken Dawsett.
- 0:38Speaker 2: Welcome.
- 0:39Speaker 4: Ken, Hey, thank you for inviting me. I appreciate sure,
- 0:41Speaker 4: thank you for coming.
- 0:43Speaker 3: Ken is the co director and founder of Bartlesville's Own
- 0:46Speaker 3: on the Rock Ministries, and I just a great organization
- 0:52Speaker 3: and been around for a long time here in Bartlesville.
- 0:56Speaker 3: And it's a one of a kind thing. I think
- 0:58Speaker 3: it's really a one off and another great example of
- 1:02Speaker 3: the kind of the.
- 1:05Speaker 2: Support in Bartlesville for our youth and.
- 1:08Speaker 3: For you know, because I don't know how anybody slips
- 1:12Speaker 3: through the cracks and Martlesville we are.
- 1:14Speaker 4: There's a lot of wonderful organizations in town that serve
- 1:18Speaker 4: the kids. You know, Walliam c A and k Life
- 1:21Speaker 4: and Boys and Girls Club and Salvation Army. They're nationally known,
- 1:27Speaker 4: but we're home born here in Barcelila.
- 1:30Speaker 3: So and unique really, I mean because some of the
- 1:33Speaker 3: same kinds of things, you know, giving kids a place
- 1:37Speaker 3: to go after school, helping them getting engaged in learning.
- 1:41Speaker 3: And I knew things, but stuff like skateboarding has been
- 1:45Speaker 3: around a long time.
- 1:46Speaker 5: That's true.
- 1:47Speaker 4: We started twenty six years ago and we wanted I
- 1:52Speaker 4: was the youth minister at First Methodist at that time,
- 1:56Speaker 4: and we wanted to build something off campus from the
- 1:59Speaker 4: church that would attract kids, necessarily Mephist kids, you know.
- 2:04Speaker 4: And uh so we formed the board and we found
- 2:06Speaker 4: the property and pat Roy gave us the old rock
- 2:10Speaker 4: building MGM was next door, and a few years later Buzz,
- 2:15Speaker 4: the owner, then asked if we wanted to buy his property,
- 2:19Speaker 4: and I said, you bet, we don't have any money,
- 2:21Speaker 4: but we'd like to have it. And so we waited
- 2:26Speaker 4: a few years and now we have probably half the block.
- 2:31Speaker 4: We've been there twenty six years.
- 2:32Speaker 5: And uh but those early years were wild West days.
- 2:36Speaker 4: The kids were just skating all over town and and uh,
- 2:41Speaker 4: we wanted to provide them a Christian place where they
- 2:44Speaker 4: could come. And so we used the skate park as
- 2:47Speaker 4: a as a like a mouse trap, a bait to
- 2:50Speaker 4: drink during in these little guys and uh and so
- 2:54Speaker 4: we uh we're the oldest and longest running skate park
- 2:58Speaker 4: indoor in oklahom Really. Yeah, there's been a great big
- 3:03Speaker 4: park in Jumping, Missouri that since closed down.
- 3:06Speaker 5: There's been in Oklahoma City, in Tulsa, they've all closed.
- 3:12Speaker 4: So we're the longest running, uh indoor skate park in Oklahoma.
- 3:16Speaker 4: So that's really really incredible and we're very small, but
- 3:19Speaker 4: it's something unique for us.
- 3:20Speaker 3: Yes, that is incredible. That a little bit of car
- 3:24Speaker 3: business stuff. As we'll come back to the on the
- 3:27Speaker 3: rocks it is. We're at the end of March, another
- 3:30Speaker 3: end of the month push. We've got to deliver as
- 3:32Speaker 3: many toyotas as possible. Uh.
- 3:35Speaker 2: It is an interesting time.
- 3:36Speaker 3: The news has certainly been all about automotive in the
- 3:39Speaker 3: last few days.
- 3:39Speaker 2: And I still don't know what to make of the tariffs.
- 3:42Speaker 3: I think we're have to wait till all the directives
- 3:45Speaker 3: come out and the manufacturers figure out how to respond.
- 3:49Speaker 2: It's going to affect all the cars.
- 3:51Speaker 3: I think at some level, and and of course the
- 3:54Speaker 3: manufacturers will adjust, so you know, we'll have to wait
- 3:56Speaker 3: and see what happens. But right now, I'm the only
- 3:59Speaker 3: thing I know for sure is that we've got a
- 4:01Speaker 3: great selection of Toyota's on the ground over there right now,
- 4:04Speaker 3: more coming, and you really need to buy some used cars.
- 4:07Speaker 2: It's been a great used car month for us.
- 4:09Speaker 3: We've sold more than we have on the ground now
- 4:12Speaker 3: and we need to get to restock. So if you've
- 4:14Speaker 3: got a vehicle you're looking to offload, we'd give you
- 4:17Speaker 3: a great offer for that. And you know, I do
- 4:20Speaker 3: think as we go into this next short midterm, you're
- 4:23Speaker 3: going to see prices probably rise a bit. And you know,
- 4:26Speaker 3: I think of reading about it this morning. You know,
- 4:29Speaker 3: some of the some vehicles that are imported only you know,
- 4:34Speaker 3: may not be available in for a while. Niche vehicles,
- 4:38Speaker 3: things that are you know, Toyota makes some cars just
- 4:41Speaker 3: in Japan that are sent out worldwide that aren't really
- 4:44Speaker 3: big sellers, to be honest, those aren't what aren't we
- 4:46Speaker 3: sell our volume. Most of those vehicles are actually manufactured
- 4:50Speaker 3: in North America. Or in the USA and Camery and
- 4:54Speaker 3: Kentucky and the Tundra and Texas, and they've got lots
- 4:59Speaker 3: of other plans. But you know, so those little one
- 5:03Speaker 3: off cars that aren't as common that are imported will
- 5:07Speaker 3: be I have to figure out how to play that out,
- 5:11Speaker 3: but I think, you know, it could have a little
- 5:13Speaker 3: maybe boost the value of your used car. But who
- 5:16Speaker 3: knows on supply and demand how that's going to play out.
- 5:21Speaker 3: Like I said, we do have a great stock right
- 5:23Speaker 3: now and none of those price increases have happened. So
- 5:25Speaker 3: that's one thing for sure. You can come get a
- 5:28Speaker 3: great deal still now Atuneus Toyota. And I want to
- 5:33Speaker 3: go back to the On the Rock story and what's
- 5:35Speaker 3: going on down there because it has since those wild
- 5:38Speaker 3: West days as you described it. Which, Yeah, it's just
- 5:43Speaker 3: amazing to me to think it's been twenty over twenty
- 5:46Speaker 3: five years, almost thirty years that you guys have been
- 5:51Speaker 3: doing this in Bartlesville and really impacting kids' lives, and
- 5:56Speaker 3: you know, in such a unique way. And now you've
- 5:59Speaker 3: got school programs, after school programs and elementary, middle school
- 6:04Speaker 3: and high school level.
- 6:05Speaker 4: We see about six hundred kids a week and we
- 6:09Speaker 4: bring them in from all the schools in town elementary schools,
- 6:14Speaker 4: high school, middle schools, and we try to divide up
- 6:19Speaker 4: each day with a certain school and to serve those
- 6:22Speaker 4: those students. And our building is pretty small. We have
- 6:27Speaker 4: a nice campus with outdoor gym for dodgeball, and we
- 6:31Speaker 4: have an obstacle course, and we have all kinds of
- 6:34Speaker 4: things outside, but the inside where our video games are
- 6:38Speaker 4: and our worship center is kind of small. So if
- 6:41Speaker 4: you crowd one hundred and fifty kids in there per day,
- 6:44Speaker 4: you know, that makes it pretty tough. This weekend we're
- 6:47Speaker 4: having some of the schools have their after proms this cerita.
- 6:53Speaker 4: I think maybe Kingey Valley is coming in and next
- 6:56Speaker 4: weekend another school.
- 6:58Speaker 5: And so we have weekends we have birthday.
- 7:02Speaker 4: Parties going on, and so people come in and use
- 7:05Speaker 4: the facility when we're not there for after school programs.
- 7:08Speaker 3: Right, okay, And you have other programs too, like tutoring.
- 7:14Speaker 4: Yeah, for our Camp Rock kids that's third through fifth grade.
- 7:20Speaker 4: On Monday and Tuesdays, we see about forty students that
- 7:25Speaker 4: are struggling in school and we match them up with
- 7:29Speaker 4: a tutor that was set.
- 7:30Speaker 5: With them that whole period. It's about forty.
- 7:32Speaker 4: Minutes and they go online, they see where they're deficient
- 7:37Speaker 4: and they help them to catch up, whether it's reading
- 7:41Speaker 4: or it's math or whatever.
- 7:42Speaker 2: And so those are volunteer community members.
- 7:44Speaker 4: Yeah, we always need more because we have more students
- 7:48Speaker 4: that we have adults to sit with them.
- 7:50Speaker 5: So that's a real need for us.
- 7:52Speaker 4: But we have a reward system so that every time
- 7:57Speaker 4: they complete their assignment, they ring the bell and they
- 8:00Speaker 4: get what we call rock bucks, and they take these
- 8:03Speaker 4: rock bucks up and there's a treasure chest of prizes
- 8:07Speaker 4: and awards and they can purchase those things, you know,
- 8:10Speaker 4: for their hard work and tutoring.
- 8:13Speaker 2: He worked with the schools to find the kids.
- 8:15Speaker 5: Yeah, yeah, we help.
- 8:18Speaker 4: We have I think a good association with our schools
- 8:23Speaker 4: in that I know that we particularly we Cane. One
- 8:28Speaker 4: time a teacher came out and she said, I'm having
- 8:31Speaker 4: a little trouble with this young man. And he said, okay,
- 8:34Speaker 4: if if I tell him, he can't come to the rock,
- 8:38Speaker 4: And I said, well, we we don't want to prevent
- 8:41Speaker 4: kids from coming to the rock, but please use us
- 8:44Speaker 4: as a carrot or stick.
- 8:46Speaker 5: You know.
- 8:47Speaker 4: And uh so that if the kids are not behaving
- 8:50Speaker 4: and respectful with class, tell them that they may lose
- 8:53Speaker 4: their privilege to come to the Rock that day. And
- 8:56Speaker 4: so I think she appreciated knowing that they could use
- 9:00Speaker 4: us as a reward to come after school. And and
- 9:04Speaker 4: of course we've been doing this a long time. Yeah,
- 9:07Speaker 4: we want to we want to certainly cooperate with with
- 9:10Speaker 4: the schools and the teachers.
- 9:11Speaker 3: The going back to the beginning, it was you and
- 9:15Speaker 3: your wife primarily that had this vision, right and.
- 9:19Speaker 4: Is her name, Yeah, my wife, Sandy is an educator
- 9:22Speaker 4: in our young son Andy, who now you know works
- 9:27Speaker 4: in the newspaper and does.
- 9:28Speaker 2: A lot of Thank you to Andy.
- 9:30Speaker 3: I was a journalist and young Yeah, and Andy's uh,
- 9:34Speaker 3: I've been following his stories about the Price Tower with.
- 9:37Speaker 2: Great interest, And thank you to Andy.
- 9:40Speaker 3: For covering that so well and really putting the time
- 9:42Speaker 3: in to go to those hearings and things and give
- 9:45Speaker 3: us all a glimpse of what's going on with that
- 9:46Speaker 3: great reason.
- 9:47Speaker 4: He was sixth grade when we came to the rock,
- 9:51Speaker 4: and uh, so it was a really neat time for
- 9:55Speaker 4: us to uh to my board asked me, h, since
- 10:00Speaker 4: I wasn't with the church any longer. My boyd asked,
- 10:03Speaker 4: what kids do we want, I said, I want them all.
- 10:07Speaker 4: If they have need of the Lord, we want them,
- 10:09Speaker 4: you know. And so we've been striving after that this summer.
- 10:13Speaker 4: Of course, we have unique things that we do, like
- 10:16Speaker 4: next week, I think we're having our haystack, where we
- 10:19Speaker 4: get ten bales of hay. We flow them up about
- 10:22Speaker 4: six seven, you know, I feet high. We throw a
- 10:25Speaker 4: bunch of money in there, and then when we say go,
- 10:28Speaker 4: the kids dive in and they come out with hay
- 10:30Speaker 4: all over them.
- 10:31Speaker 5: But I also can earn some money.
- 10:35Speaker 4: And then we started our bike trip in May for
- 10:40Speaker 4: back when I was at the Message Church.
- 10:42Speaker 5: About thirty six years.
- 10:44Speaker 4: Now, we've been taking these annual bike trips. It's one
- 10:47Speaker 4: of the unique things that we started back then and
- 10:50Speaker 4: we continue today. This year we're going to Ohio and
- 10:54Speaker 4: for our twenty fifth anniversary. Some years ago we wanted
- 10:58Speaker 4: to do something special, so we we bust everybody out
- 11:01Speaker 4: to Santa Monica Pire with a trailer uh U haul
- 11:05Speaker 4: carrying luggage and food and and a bike trailer with
- 11:08Speaker 4: all the bikes on. And we started there and we
- 11:11Speaker 4: rode back the old route sixty six, my goodness, went
- 11:14Speaker 4: through the desert out there in California and and uh
- 11:17Speaker 4: tried to do fifty miles in each state before we
- 11:19Speaker 4: got back to Oklahoma. And that was uh, you know,
- 11:23Speaker 4: kind of signature for twenty five years. We're approaching thirty six.
- 11:27Speaker 4: Now we've been to Canada, we've been to uh.
- 11:32Speaker 2: Texas.
- 11:32Speaker 4: Oh yeah, yeah, and it's a it's a very it's
- 11:36Speaker 4: like a boot camp.
- 11:37Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 11:37Speaker 3: No, I would say you it's a lot. There's a
- 11:38Speaker 3: lot going on in a trip like that. You got
- 11:41Speaker 3: to be able to ride the back. You got you
- 11:43Speaker 3: got a lot of planning and logistics involved. They've got
- 11:46Speaker 3: a whole bunch of moving parts.
- 11:47Speaker 4: I mean for the kids, you know, it's really uh,
- 11:50Speaker 4: it's difficult because you you put them on the bike
- 11:53Speaker 4: and they used to maybe going in town for a
- 11:55Speaker 4: few miles, and we ride fifty sixty miles a day.
- 11:58Speaker 4: And and I've seen them, you know, even myself, you know,
- 12:02Speaker 4: as a man, I don't know if I can make this,
- 12:04Speaker 4: you know. But but it's like a lesson in life.
- 12:08Speaker 4: You don't have to sit in Sunday school to learn
- 12:10Speaker 4: that lesson. You can put it to practice and say
- 12:14Speaker 4: I can do all things through Christ, who will strengthen me.
- 12:17Speaker 4: And at night, we have devotionals and we stay up
- 12:22Speaker 4: late and then we get up early in the morning,
- 12:24Speaker 4: six o'clock and we put them back on the road.
- 12:26Speaker 4: And we've we've flown over the Grand Canyon, We've been
- 12:29Speaker 4: to Canada, We've been you know, all over the world,
- 12:32Speaker 4: you know, well the United States.
- 12:33Speaker 2: How many kids go on this we'll.
- 12:36Speaker 4: Have from thirty to sixty, depend on the season that
- 12:39Speaker 4: we're in, and we have half of them are adults
- 12:43Speaker 4: and staff members. They go and it's a very it's
- 12:48Speaker 4: whenever I get alumni together and wherever they come from.
- 12:52Speaker 4: Now they're you know, already married and had children. But
- 12:55Speaker 4: it won't take but a few minutes we're sitting together
- 12:57Speaker 4: and the conversation will turn to the bike triops.
- 13:00Speaker 5: Kid, do you remember whenever you know?
- 13:03Speaker 4: And it's a it's a great tie that ties us together.
- 13:06Speaker 3: Uh huh, that's super great story and and uh, such
- 13:10Speaker 3: a great experience for those kids, I would think. And yeah,
- 13:15Speaker 3: and then you've got you know another program you've come
- 13:18Speaker 3: out with.
- 13:18Speaker 2: It's the Creamer.
- 13:19Speaker 5: I mean, my goodness, we were we The lady that
- 13:26Speaker 5: that owned it.
- 13:28Speaker 4: Was talking to different people about purchasing when she decided not.
- 13:32Speaker 5: To use it, and so.
- 13:35Speaker 4: Finally she talked to some relatives and said, well, let's
- 13:38Speaker 4: give it away, you know, for tax purposes, I guess.
- 13:41Speaker 4: And so I had looked at that building before I
- 13:45Speaker 4: found the rock, and it belonged to Phillip sub Belie
- 13:49Speaker 4: and Uh and they had a low price tag on it,
- 13:52Speaker 4: I found out, and I went to Charlie Boarman and
- 13:56Speaker 4: offered him a dollar for it, and I got turned down.
- 13:59Speaker 4: But then and now you know, so many years later
- 14:03Speaker 4: it was given to us. I didn't even have to
- 14:05Speaker 4: spend a dollar for it. And so we walk in
- 14:08Speaker 4: and there's windows busted out, there's a hole in the
- 14:11Speaker 4: roof where it had snowed in, and birds of flying
- 14:14Speaker 4: through there. And people said we ought to just tear
- 14:19Speaker 4: it down.
- 14:19Speaker 5: So when they offered it to us.
- 14:21Speaker 4: We said, well, okay, we don't have good sense, so
- 14:25Speaker 4: we'll take it. And we spent two years refurbishing that
- 14:29Speaker 4: old building.
- 14:30Speaker 5: But it's an iconic, iconic it is beautiful place.
- 14:34Speaker 4: And we had older people come by and say, you know,
- 14:36Speaker 4: my husband got out of World War two and this
- 14:39Speaker 4: was the first place he took me to to get
- 14:41Speaker 4: ice cream. And so a lot of older people remember
- 14:45Speaker 4: getting fights in ice cream there at the creamer, and
- 14:48Speaker 4: so we devulted it into a school for kids dropping out.
- 14:53Speaker 4: We have an esports program to help kids get out
- 14:56Speaker 4: of their small bedroom and come together to learn teamwork
- 15:00Speaker 4: and sportsmanship and will play esports.
- 15:03Speaker 5: I don't understand it, but they can get.
- 15:06Speaker 2: It's probably better than sitting aloud at home doing the
- 15:09Speaker 2: same thing.
- 15:10Speaker 4: I think that that's and they can get a scholarship
- 15:12Speaker 4: without even putting tennis shoes on, you know, to go
- 15:15Speaker 4: to college. And so it's really neat for them. And
- 15:17Speaker 4: we have a food court. We thought, you know, kids
- 15:21Speaker 4: coming in, we need something to eat, so we put
- 15:24Speaker 4: in a sweet spot because we serve a really good
- 15:27Speaker 4: ice cream and other food. But passed Independence who work
- 15:31Speaker 4: with autistic children. They approach us about managing that for us,
- 15:36Speaker 4: and so they supply the labor and we supply the
- 15:41Speaker 4: location and the food. And so it's open from eleven
- 15:44Speaker 4: to two o'clock every day on the weekdays, and that's
- 15:47Speaker 4: doing well. And so we have a local artist in
- 15:51Speaker 4: the back that makes artwork out of junk and stuff,
- 15:56Speaker 4: and that's going to be featured on this art crawl that.
- 15:59Speaker 5: They're doing there. You know next week.
- 16:01Speaker 4: I think, so the Creamer would be part of the
- 16:03Speaker 4: locations where people can go to and to see what
- 16:07Speaker 4: he's doing and other people, you know, can enjoy what
- 16:10Speaker 4: we tried to do the last few years.
- 16:12Speaker 2: Yeah, he builds stuff out of junk.
- 16:14Speaker 5: Yes, Josh, Yeah, yeah, Josh.
- 16:18Speaker 4: Yeah. Josh is a great guy and fun to be
- 16:22Speaker 4: with and uh is need to have a hobby that
- 16:25Speaker 4: you can do and enjoy and provide your living expenses.
- 16:29Speaker 4: So yeah, so he's he's now part of the Creamer.
- 16:32Speaker 2: That's awesome.
- 16:33Speaker 3: And you know, I think there's a pattern here, isn't
- 16:35Speaker 3: it That you guys have built a lot of really
- 16:38Speaker 3: fun and attractive activities, you know, make the kids interested
- 16:42Speaker 3: and to participate it on the Yeah, that was kind
- 16:47Speaker 3: of the plan. It sounds like it certainly seems to
- 16:50Speaker 3: have worked. Yet, I really it's a great organization. Well
- 16:54Speaker 3: we they think of all the lives and people that
- 16:57Speaker 3: have been through there that you've had answer to impact.
- 17:01Speaker 4: Yeah, when we we came, you know, twenty six years ago. Uh,
- 17:07Speaker 4: these kids, you know, we found our niche Boys and
- 17:12Speaker 4: Girls Club, Uh, Salvation Army, Uh your k life. You know,
- 17:18Speaker 4: they all have great kids that are come into their
- 17:21Speaker 4: great programs, and we found that when the bus leaves,
- 17:24Speaker 4: the kids standing there with nothing else to do because
- 17:27Speaker 4: they don't belong to sports, so they don't you know whatever. Uh,
- 17:31Speaker 4: those are the kids that we attracted have not too
- 17:33Speaker 4: many other options, and so we're thankful to have those
- 17:36Speaker 4: kind of kids.
- 17:37Speaker 2: That's our niche thank goodness.
- 17:39Speaker 3: Yeah, that network of great organizations in Barlowsville. Yeah, not
- 17:44Speaker 3: not really unique and just kids services either.
- 17:48Speaker 2: We have a rich community.
- 17:51Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 17:52Speaker 3: Yeah, it's a great legacy you guys have created at
- 17:56Speaker 3: on the Rock, uh these these years and uh, all
- 18:00Speaker 3: all the time you guys have spent resources. I just
- 18:03Speaker 3: thank you, I'll say for all of us here in
- 18:05Speaker 3: Bartlsville for all that you've done.
- 18:06Speaker 5: Can it's really it's been that's been our pleasure.
- 18:09Speaker 4: We've been very fortunate to to survive twenty six years
- 18:15Speaker 4: and uh to do what we hope the Lord is
- 18:18Speaker 4: pleased with.
- 18:19Speaker 5: And that's all we can answer.
- 18:20Speaker 3: And if people are interested in this, what I'm sure
- 18:24Speaker 3: you know you need tutors.
- 18:25Speaker 2: And volunteers and resources and you're you don't have, you
- 18:29Speaker 2: don't get where do you get your money? How does
- 18:31Speaker 2: this happen?
- 18:32Speaker 5: Well?
- 18:33Speaker 4: I don't know we had uh we only have about
- 18:37Speaker 4: two hundred on.
- 18:38Speaker 5: A million list and uh uh.
- 18:42Speaker 4: And many of them are very you know, give sacrificially
- 18:45Speaker 4: to us. And we have a budget like like a
- 18:50Speaker 4: half million dollars a year, and if you divide that
- 18:54Speaker 4: into two hundred people, that's you know, that's that's considerable. So,
- 18:58Speaker 4: but we have organizations and town like the Line Foundation
- 19:04Speaker 4: and uh, the Parson's Family, you know.
- 19:07Speaker 5: That that give.
- 19:09Speaker 4: They don't give to programs and to buy meals or
- 19:12Speaker 4: gasoline and things like that or salaries, but they give
- 19:15Speaker 4: to to help us build things with They've helped us
- 19:18Speaker 4: considerably to build a cream build and to build our programs.
- 19:22Speaker 5: Up with the with the structures that we have.
- 19:24Speaker 4: But we're still, you know, desperate to have people just
- 19:30Speaker 4: to think about us.
- 19:31Speaker 5: They have a good word to say to pray for.
- 19:32Speaker 2: Well, I know they are.
- 19:34Speaker 3: I mean each we've the last few years we've done
- 19:36Speaker 3: our anniversary donation event and you guys have been selected
- 19:41Speaker 3: every time. That's great, and you know sometimes we've had
- 19:45Speaker 3: other winners, right, but you guys have been one hundred
- 19:48Speaker 3: percent one of our customers. They said, I want you
- 19:51Speaker 3: to support.
- 19:51Speaker 2: On the rock.
- 19:52Speaker 5: Well, that's good. We appreciate that.
- 19:54Speaker 3: Yeah, I think it is a great testament for what
- 19:56Speaker 3: you do. There are a lot of folks out there
- 19:58Speaker 3: who do know about it, and and hopefully more out
- 20:01Speaker 3: there learning about it today. And we'll get and we'll
- 20:04Speaker 3: find you. Reach out and go down to the creamery
- 20:07Speaker 3: or just come come by. I know that's a great
- 20:10Speaker 3: way to find out how you might be able to
- 20:13Speaker 3: help is just come see what happens, because I've been
- 20:16Speaker 3: down there a few times when my kids.
- 20:18Speaker 2: Went down there some when they were around, but it's
- 20:21Speaker 2: hard to it's such an attractive place for kids.
- 20:23Speaker 3: They all kind of want to see what it's about.
- 20:27Speaker 2: Yeah, I think you've done a great job.
- 20:30Speaker 3: So I mentioned the great end of month deals we
- 20:34Speaker 3: have on going on at the dealership. I'll switch back
- 20:37Speaker 3: to being Oklahoma's oldest and most trusted.
- 20:40Speaker 2: Toyota dealer again. We are here to take care of
- 20:43Speaker 2: you guys.
- 20:43Speaker 3: I know sometimes it's these last few years it seems
- 20:47Speaker 3: like there aren't many vehicles on the lot. That is
- 20:50Speaker 3: true in a relative sense to about five or six
- 20:54Speaker 3: years ago. But Toys telling us we're going to need
- 20:58Speaker 3: to sell about eighty percent of what we have on
- 21:00Speaker 3: the ground at any one time, and so it's a
- 21:02Speaker 3: mad race to sell them all.
- 21:04Speaker 2: And we're nearing the end of the month.
- 21:06Speaker 3: The way the allocation system works that when the month closes,
- 21:10Speaker 3: they take a snapshot of what's out there and what
- 21:12Speaker 3: you sold and what's in your pipeline, and they redistribute
- 21:15Speaker 3: the vehicles to get us what we need hopefully, And
- 21:19Speaker 3: so we're kind of all the dealers are kind of
- 21:21Speaker 3: in the same same situation. You can be a lot larger,
- 21:24Speaker 3: but you're still going to have about the same day
- 21:26Speaker 3: of supply on the ground and same number of vehicles
- 21:29Speaker 3: relative domini you sell. So don't get frustrated. We can
- 21:34Speaker 3: find it for you. More and more, we're doing lots
- 21:37Speaker 3: of dealer trades and helping people find the vehicle they
- 21:40Speaker 3: want a little bit further upstream in the in the
- 21:44Speaker 3: vehicle pipeline whereas they're being built. We can reserve one
- 21:48Speaker 3: for you if you know what you want, you know,
- 21:51Speaker 3: I know it. Today we're working on getting a land
- 21:54Speaker 3: cruiser for someone from Lufkin, Texas.
- 21:58Speaker 2: And sending in one of our cars.
- 21:59Speaker 3: So you know that's not the most efficient way to
- 22:02Speaker 3: do it, necessarily, but.
- 22:04Speaker 2: We'll go to about the end of the earth to
- 22:06Speaker 2: find your car for.
- 22:09Speaker 4: I'm not being paid to say this, but I drive
- 22:12Speaker 4: a Tundra and bought it locally here from you well,
- 22:16Speaker 4: and it's a great car and we really appreciate that
- 22:21Speaker 4: making model.
- 22:22Speaker 3: No, I'm really proud to be a Toyota dealer.
- 22:24Speaker 2: You know.
- 22:25Speaker 3: It's in ninety five years. My family's been in the
- 22:27Speaker 3: car business now and started out as a Methodist minister
- 22:31Speaker 3: sent to Oklahoma to my great grandfather, and of course
- 22:36Speaker 3: my grandfather was a involved at First Methodists for many
- 22:39Speaker 3: years and great church. And so anyway, we're looking forward
- 22:47Speaker 3: to a great end of the month. And if you
- 22:49Speaker 3: do use cars, new cars great incentives. There's a lot
- 22:52Speaker 3: of lease deals out there. I know we traded this
- 22:55Speaker 3: week for a really cool older Mustang convertible under one
- 22:59Speaker 3: hundred thousand, really nice car.
- 23:01Speaker 2: We also purchased a nearly brand.
- 23:03Speaker 3: New twenty four Mustang with only seven thousand miles something
- 23:08Speaker 3: who just wasn't driving it enough and felt like he
- 23:11Speaker 3: wanted to get a pickup truck.
- 23:13Speaker 2: So this car needs some help and need some love.
- 23:17Speaker 3: We've got a great selection of less expensive vehicles, trucks,
- 23:22Speaker 3: all kinds of cars, trying to buy more. If you
- 23:26Speaker 3: have a car you'd look to sell, we definitely you
- 23:29Speaker 3: can just go right on our website, put a little
- 23:31Speaker 3: bit of information in. It'll give you a Kelly Bluebook
- 23:34Speaker 3: instant cash offer almost immediately when you bring the vehicle in.
- 23:40Speaker 3: We'll confirm everything. A lot of times we'll actually raise
- 23:43Speaker 3: our offer a little bit from the Kelly blue Book.
- 23:46Speaker 2: So give us a shot there.
- 23:48Speaker 3: All that can be done at done just Toyota dot
- 23:51Speaker 3: com or come on buy and see the team of
- 23:54Speaker 3: great noncommissioned sales professionals we have out at the dealership.
- 23:58Speaker 3: We really take pride and you know, keeping things simple
- 24:01Speaker 3: and not playing a lot of games with hidden fees
- 24:06Speaker 3: and add ons to the vehicles. I really try to
- 24:08Speaker 3: be transparent on our pricing and the financing that we offer.
- 24:14Speaker 3: Typically do not mark our rates up at all. We
- 24:17Speaker 3: can pass on the buy rate to our customers so
- 24:20Speaker 3: they get the very best interest rate that we can
- 24:22Speaker 3: get them. And so we try to be competitive and
- 24:26Speaker 3: and really earn your business. We use true market based
- 24:29Speaker 3: pricing and a lot of times I price the vehicles
- 24:31Speaker 3: myself and it's not me, it's Brian Ballard, our general
- 24:35Speaker 3: sales manager, and we really want to keep make it
- 24:38Speaker 3: simple and fast for you to buy a car. That's
- 24:41Speaker 3: our motto is just to have it feel good to
- 24:45Speaker 3: buy the car and know that you bought a great product.
- 24:49Speaker 3: And as you mentioned, you've got a lot of stuff
- 24:52Speaker 3: coming out at the Rock. There's other stuff coming on
- 24:56Speaker 3: in the community, the art walk you already mentioned. We've
- 24:59Speaker 3: got the Educator Hall of Fame right around the corner. Next,
- 25:03Speaker 3: I think it's Thursday night on at the community center
- 25:09Speaker 3: You've got they're going to honor some other great educators
- 25:12Speaker 3: in our community as opposed to your wife, which I
- 25:17Speaker 3: went back to her time as a teacher here, but
- 25:19Speaker 3: Cheryl Fentrist, Jane Sears, Cheryl Lansdowne, and the Legacy inductee
- 25:24Speaker 3: Betty Jane Johnston. So really people that also had a
- 25:28Speaker 3: great impact on the youth in our community. And we'll
- 25:32Speaker 3: be out there that night. That's when we like to
- 25:35Speaker 3: be involved in a lot. So back once again too
- 25:40Speaker 3: on the Rock. And you know, if people want to
- 25:42Speaker 3: know more information, what's the best way for them to
- 25:45Speaker 3: do that.
- 25:47Speaker 5: To get that, we always welcome people come by.
- 25:52Speaker 4: When I talked to parents on the phone, you know,
- 25:54Speaker 4: I say, hey, just don't send your kids to us.
- 25:57Speaker 4: We'll pick them up on a bus and you pick
- 25:59Speaker 4: them up after classes over. But come check us out,
- 26:02Speaker 4: check and see if we're not true to what we say.
- 26:05Speaker 2: You know.
- 26:05Speaker 4: We want to make sure that we we can't do
- 26:08Speaker 4: everything uh perfectly, but we want to do with excellence.
- 26:15Speaker 4: And so we want people to Uh. Our office hours
- 26:20Speaker 4: are like from nine till six Monday through Friday, and
- 26:23Speaker 4: they can come by on Hensley our office, or they
- 26:27Speaker 4: can come in during program time. Just walk for the
- 26:31Speaker 4: kids and see what's going on, listen.
- 26:33Speaker 2: To and basically downtown just.
- 26:37Speaker 4: I'll park in Hinsley and uh listen to the lessons
- 26:42Speaker 4: that we we we we teach and what should we
- 26:45Speaker 4: do and make sure that this is a safe place
- 26:49Speaker 4: where you want your kids to be.
- 26:51Speaker 3: Uh.
- 26:51Speaker 4: The people's are children the most precious thing that we
- 26:54Speaker 4: have outside of our faith, you know, and and so
- 26:58Speaker 4: we want to make sure that the kids are safe,
- 27:00Speaker 4: they're well taken care of, that we teach them good values,
- 27:04Speaker 4: that we'll serve them in life. And we want parents
- 27:07Speaker 4: to be able to have confidence in us and come.
- 27:10Speaker 4: So anybody's welcome to come anytime. We're open, and we we.
- 27:15Speaker 5: Have a website. I don't have a computer in my office.
- 27:19Speaker 2: I was looking at it.
- 27:20Speaker 5: It's a great websit it Okay, I have nothing to
- 27:24Speaker 5: do with computers.
- 27:25Speaker 2: But Andy. I saw a picture of Andy with a
- 27:27Speaker 2: flame on his hand.
- 27:29Speaker 3: I'm not sure what was going on that was object anyway,
- 27:33Speaker 3: check out the website, check out on the Rock.
- 27:36Speaker 2: Thank you, mister Dawson, I thank you. It's been great
- 27:40Speaker 2: to hear the whole.
- 27:41Speaker 3: Story and learn more about what's going on and stuff
- 27:43Speaker 3: like the bike ride. And thank you all for listening.
- 27:46Speaker 3: We've pretty much exhausted our time today and I'm glad
- 27:50Speaker 3: to have you this this week listening to car Talk.
- 27:53Speaker 2: Folks, you've been watching and listening to Car Talk.
- 27:55Speaker 1: A presentation of Dungeons Toyota right here on K one, No.
- 27:59Speaker 2: One
