- 0:35Speaker 1: gloves that fit. And in this week's Know the Faux Segment,

- 1:12Speaker 1: subscribing wherever you get your podcasts. It's the greatest thing
- 1:16Speaker 1: since parabolic microphones. When you watch an NFL game on TV,
- 1:22Speaker 1: do you marvel at how well you can hear the
- 1:24Speaker 1: quarterback bark out signals. There are a couple of reasons
- 1:28Speaker 1: why the audio is crystal clear. One, they put microphones
- 1:32Speaker 1: in some of the linemen's pads. Those are the only
- 1:35Speaker 1: micd up players that are heard live during a game.
- 1:39Speaker 1: And two, there are people standing on the sideline holding
- 1:43Speaker 1: parabolic mics. Those are the ones that look like little
- 1:46Speaker 1: satellite dishes. I bring this up after making a cool
- 1:50Speaker 1: discovery last week after the Thursday Night Went Over Pittsburgh.
- 1:54Speaker 1: Zach Taylor was praising Joe Flacco for how quickly he's
- 1:58Speaker 1: picked things up despite some communication issues.
- 2:02Speaker 2: I have to nunciate my formations better because some of
- 2:04Speaker 2: them we're hearing him for the first time, and so
- 2:06Speaker 2: I got to do a better job nunciating. Thanks my
- 2:09Speaker 2: Olcahoma accent got him a couple of times, but I
- 2:12Speaker 2: thought he did a great job manager.
- 2:13Speaker 3: In the game.
- 2:14Speaker 1: Zach wasn't kidding. I always listened back to part of
- 2:17Speaker 1: the game broadcast to critique my work and I picked
- 2:21Speaker 1: up on something that I didn't catch during the live broadcast.
- 2:24Speaker 1: And now we've got a time out called by Cincinnati
- 2:28Speaker 1: when it was first intent at the Pittsburgh forty six.
- 2:33Speaker 1: Did you catch that at the end? I'm going to
- 2:35Speaker 1: play it again but tweak the audio a little bit.
- 2:38Speaker 1: And now we've got a time out called by Cincinnati
- 2:42Speaker 1: when it was first intent at the Pittsburgh forty six.
- 2:48Speaker 1: Thanks to one of those parabolic microphones, you could clearly
- 2:51Speaker 1: hear Flacco tell Zach to enunciate the formation. I don't
- 2:57Speaker 1: think it really had anything to do with the Oklahoma accent,
- 3:00Speaker 1: just the difficulty of trying to repeat wordy play calls
- 3:04Speaker 1: that he's still in the process of learning.
- 3:06Speaker 4: There's certain things with formations and things like that that
- 3:09Speaker 4: you're hearing for the first couple times, and even though
- 3:12Speaker 4: you've read the play a million times, like when you
- 3:14Speaker 4: hear it, it just wasn't hitting my brain right. So
- 3:17Speaker 4: there was a few of those, and we were joking
- 3:19Speaker 4: on the sideline like any time that happened, and we
- 3:21Speaker 4: broke the play and we broke the huddle, and it
- 3:23Speaker 4: was like, I don't know if we're right here. I mean,
- 3:24Speaker 4: that play hit so we got lucky tonight in that says.
- 3:28Speaker 1: And we got lucky that a parabolic mic picked up
- 3:32Speaker 1: a little bit of audio that helped us understand what
- 3:35Speaker 1: the coach at his quarterback we're talking about. Now, let's
- 3:39Speaker 1: get to my first guest. She is the host of
- 3:43Speaker 1: up In Adams and not shy about expressing her fondness
- 3:46Speaker 1: for our Cincinnati Bengal. She has a Bengals fan favorite,
- 3:50Speaker 1: our friend Kay Adams k Last Friday morning, after the
- 3:55Speaker 1: exciting win over the Pittsburgh Steelers, you said on your
- 3:58Speaker 1: show and I quote the Bengals are going to the
- 4:01Speaker 1: playoffs cemented. Were you caught up in the excitement or
- 4:06Speaker 1: are you still just as confident?
- 4:07Speaker 5: I am just as if not more confident. I like
- 4:10Speaker 5: their schedule coming up. I loved that game. I loved
- 4:13Speaker 5: the second half with Flaco and his debut with an
- 4:17Speaker 5: Inner Division rival from his former stop the week before.
- 4:20Speaker 5: I'm very confident. I still really am. I think with
- 4:22Speaker 5: the division looking like what it looks like, with the
- 4:24Speaker 5: landscape of the AFC as a whole, Dan, and great
- 4:28Speaker 5: to see you and thanks for having me. I believe
- 4:30Speaker 5: in the opportunity ahead of the squad if they beat
- 4:33Speaker 5: the Jets and the Steelers lose to Green Bay in
- 4:36Speaker 5: Week eight, which is a fun little Sunday night cap
- 4:39Speaker 5: on Week eight, the Aaron Rodgers revenge game against his
- 4:43Speaker 5: former squad. If the Chargers lose to kick off Week
- 4:46Speaker 5: eight against the Vikings at home at so Far, then
- 4:49Speaker 5: these Bengals are Bengals dan Or suddenly a half game
- 4:53Speaker 5: back of both the AFC North lead, I believe, and
- 4:57Speaker 5: a wildcard spot. So all of these teams fighting for
- 5:01Speaker 5: playoff positioning right now, they all have problems.
- 5:04Speaker 6: You know, do we miss Joe Burrow? Yes, but we're holding.
- 5:07Speaker 1: It down all right. Let's turn the clock back about
- 5:10Speaker 1: two weeks. You get the notification that the Bengals have
- 5:14Speaker 1: traded for Joe Flacco. What was your initial reaction.
- 5:19Speaker 5: If I'm being totally honest and I wanted Jamis. I
- 5:22Speaker 5: was campaigning for Jamis as even in that, you know,
- 5:25Speaker 5: I was putting up the phone gifts and posting those
- 5:28Speaker 5: on Twitter. I wanted that. I wasn't loving what I
- 5:31Speaker 5: was seeing from Flaco in Cleveland, but him coming here
- 5:35Speaker 5: clearly a perfect fit. Clearly it's ignited something in him
- 5:38Speaker 5: getting to throw to Jamar and te has done something
- 5:42Speaker 5: to him. I like how he was talking I believe
- 5:44Speaker 5: to Ruler of the Jungle, Andrew Whitworth and Ryan Fitzpatrick.
- 5:47Speaker 5: But he really cares what these young, thriving, amazing receivers
- 5:51Speaker 5: think of him. I liked watching like he still got
- 5:53Speaker 5: something he wants him to think. He's cool, that he's viable,
- 5:56Speaker 5: that he's the guy, and everybody, I can just tell
- 5:59Speaker 5: from outside looking at it. I'm very far in LA,
- 6:02Speaker 5: but everyone's buying into the Flacco experience right now. And
- 6:05Speaker 5: what more could you ask for to keep your hopes alive?
- 6:06Speaker 5: So Burrow gets back.
- 6:08Speaker 1: The last six quarters that he's played have been remarkable.
- 6:13Speaker 1: I don't think anybody could have anticipated he would play
- 6:16Speaker 1: this Well. What do you find most remarkable about what
- 6:19Speaker 1: he's doing?
- 6:20Speaker 5: Dan, He's just letting it rip, you know, like there's
- 6:24Speaker 5: this looseness to him, which I appreciate very much. I
- 6:27Speaker 5: feel like, you know, just look at that zone read right,
- 6:30Speaker 5: he's doing it. I think the other sort of remarkable thing,
- 6:33Speaker 5: and this is respectfully saying this, like he's not turning
- 6:35Speaker 5: the ball over, and I really do think that's the
- 6:37Speaker 5: biggest thing. And we're watching him get the ball out
- 6:41Speaker 5: really fast. Which is nice. He did a great job.
- 6:43Speaker 5: The O line did a great job on Thursday Night
- 6:46Speaker 5: as well. He didn't really give the Steelers tons of
- 6:50Speaker 5: chances to get to him, which I thought was remarkable.
- 6:53Speaker 5: So I would say I would say that, but I
- 6:54Speaker 5: think more than anything, just like the looseness that he's
- 6:58Speaker 5: playing with, I think has been really fun to watch
- 7:00Speaker 5: and meaningful.
- 7:02Speaker 1: So the dream scenario is that Flacco wins his share
- 7:05Speaker 1: of games and then in mid December, Joe Burrow comes
- 7:08Speaker 1: back and he looks great and he leads the Bengals
- 7:11Speaker 1: to the postseason. And once he's in the playoffs, we
- 7:14Speaker 1: all know what can happen. Under what circumstances should Joe
- 7:18Speaker 1: Burrow return?
- 7:21Speaker 5: Gosh, it's a great question, and I'm glad that I'm
- 7:23Speaker 5: not the one that has to decide these things. I'm
- 7:25Speaker 5: sure Borrow is the kind of quarterback you're going to
- 7:28Speaker 5: have to like rein in and have a negotiation with
- 7:31Speaker 5: and talk about it and protect him, of course. But
- 7:35Speaker 5: I would say, and I'll say it quite plainly, oh
- 7:39Speaker 5: my gosh, de summer, if they're within like even two
- 7:42Speaker 5: games of a playoff spot, Bengals fans, right.
- 7:46Speaker 6: You have to go for it.
- 7:47Speaker 1: So a few days after the Pittsburgh game on your show,
- 7:50Speaker 1: you said, this is sustainable if the offensive line plays
- 7:55Speaker 1: like that. Is that the biggest key or is there
- 7:57Speaker 1: anything else for the Bengals to keep I think it.
- 8:01Speaker 6: Is the O line.
- 8:03Speaker 5: I believe that not just protecting Joe of course when
- 8:06Speaker 5: he's out there, Flacco until he's out there, but really
- 8:08Speaker 5: just getting a run game going was massive. I don't
- 8:12Speaker 5: break down the All twenty two, and I don't understand
- 8:15Speaker 5: why all of a sudden we were able to get
- 8:17Speaker 5: it going right. I haven't really looked into it, but
- 8:19Speaker 5: like the best rushing performance I've seen out of this
- 8:21Speaker 5: team in a couple of seasons. Right. I don't think
- 8:24Speaker 5: it's unreasonable to expect that we know how great of
- 8:28Speaker 5: a player and a talent Orlando Brown can be. He
- 8:31Speaker 5: looked like the optimal version of himself on Thursday. I
- 8:37Speaker 5: don't know why.
- 8:37Speaker 6: I don't know why.
- 8:38Speaker 5: Amarus Mims looked like the full expression of the first
- 8:42Speaker 5: round talent that he know he is up against the
- 8:45Speaker 5: best in the game, potentially right in TJ.
- 8:48Speaker 1: Watt.
- 8:48Speaker 5: I don't know if it was just the experience, maybe
- 8:51Speaker 5: the being, Maybe it was Andrew Ruitworth. I don't know,
- 8:54Speaker 5: maybe it was him coming back rallying this offensive line
- 8:57Speaker 5: to sort of looking like what we know they can be.
- 9:00Speaker 5: And it's been frustrating about the O line at points
- 9:03Speaker 5: to not see that, you know, but Ted bringing it everybody.
- 9:06Speaker 5: It's not that this team doesn't have the talent. So yes,
- 9:08Speaker 5: that's what the key is and we know that they
- 9:11Speaker 5: can do it. We saw it on Thursday. They've got
- 9:13Speaker 5: to do it against the Jets.
- 9:15Speaker 1: The defense has been opportunistic. They got a couple of
- 9:18Speaker 1: key interceptions in the game off Aaron Rodgers last Thursday night,
- 9:22Speaker 1: but they are giving up thirty point six a game.
- 9:25Speaker 1: Is the reason to believe that this defense can significantly improve.
- 9:30Speaker 5: Up in Adams today, I did my every week I
- 9:32Speaker 5: do on Wednesdays under reactions. What are the little stories
- 9:35Speaker 5: we aren't maybe talking about enough? And I talked a
- 9:37Speaker 5: lot about DJ Turner and he's not being talked about.
- 9:41Speaker 5: And I think it's a very like you know, sports
- 9:45Speaker 5: media loves a lazy narrative. We don't want something gets
- 9:47Speaker 5: labeled on someone. It's like a tattoo instead of a
- 9:51Speaker 5: week two week evolution or ability to sort of progress
- 9:55Speaker 5: beyond what that is and everyone just says, Oh, the
- 9:57Speaker 5: Bengals defense sucks, just sucks. They can't do it. No,
- 10:00Speaker 5: Like DJ Turner sort of gives me confidence in this.
- 10:02Speaker 5: I think he's he stands in the face of that
- 10:04Speaker 5: because he's been a top three corner this year really
- 10:08Speaker 5: by every metric. And I'll put you know, you can
- 10:11Speaker 5: go look at up and down as I had. I
- 10:12Speaker 5: have all the numbers up earlier this morning, and there
- 10:14Speaker 5: have been signs of improvement that we should have our
- 10:17Speaker 5: hats on over the past couple of weeks. Right, the
- 10:19Speaker 5: Packers is dealers and that's without Trey in the lineup.
- 10:22Speaker 6: So I'm in.
- 10:22Speaker 5: I'm interested to see what it looks like when trade
- 10:25Speaker 5: does get back, which I hope is someday.
- 10:27Speaker 6: You tell me him, is it coming back some day?
- 10:29Speaker 1: I think so. I'm optimistic. So, speaking of Trey, you
- 10:34Speaker 1: had boomeris I Sin on your show recently. You two
- 10:37Speaker 1: discussed the possibility of trading Trey Hendrickson and we're less
- 10:41Speaker 1: than two weeks away from the trade deadline. Where do
- 10:43Speaker 1: you stand on trading trade?
- 10:46Speaker 5: Bengals fan's really upset with me on this one because
- 10:50Speaker 5: and I was the one I was very much pushing
- 10:53Speaker 5: the agenda of get him back in here, signed him.
- 10:55Speaker 5: He's a game breaker game and he is, he's wor
- 10:57Speaker 5: you know, he's worth a long term deal.
- 11:00Speaker 6: That's what my opinion has been.
- 11:02Speaker 5: But you also have to be able to and this
- 11:05Speaker 5: is what makes being a front office so tough. You know,
- 11:08Speaker 5: these decisions that you have to make for right now,
- 11:11Speaker 5: given the opportunity ahead of you, and what the complexion
- 11:13Speaker 5: of the AFC looks like, and then also building for
- 11:15Speaker 5: your future and what that might look like. So I
- 11:18Speaker 5: would say this, if the Bengals had lost to the
- 11:21Speaker 5: Steelers last Friday night, I would be talking about trading,
- 11:24Speaker 5: not campaigning for it. But I'd be open to the discussion,
- 11:28Speaker 5: which is, any responsible fan should be able to think
- 11:32Speaker 5: at a first round or back like you have to
- 11:34Speaker 5: have from the Colts or the Niners, like you know,
- 11:37Speaker 5: given the fact that he doesn't have a long term
- 11:39Speaker 5: deal done, that's a conversation and a phone call that
- 11:41Speaker 5: the Bengals would have to pick up the phone for that.
- 11:43Speaker 5: I would expect them to do their due diligence. So
- 11:46Speaker 5: if they had lost, I would have been barking up
- 11:47Speaker 5: that tree of what does that look like? How interesting
- 11:50Speaker 5: that might be. And I will say this if they
- 11:53Speaker 5: lose somehow, which they won't, if they were to lose
- 11:56Speaker 5: to the Jets this week, if they were to lose
- 11:58Speaker 5: next week, which I also again want to say, like
- 12:01Speaker 5: I don't think that will happen, Yeah, then I will
- 12:03Speaker 5: be engaging in that those hypotheticals yet again. But if
- 12:06Speaker 5: they beat the Jets, I think it's dead. I think
- 12:08Speaker 5: that that idea is dead.
- 12:09Speaker 1: You just said they're not going to lose this week,
- 12:11Speaker 1: but the Jets come to town winless. They have the
- 12:14Speaker 1: desperation factor on their side. What must the Bengals do
- 12:18Speaker 1: to avoid losing to a team that's struggling and looking
- 12:21Speaker 1: for its first win.
- 12:22Speaker 5: It is scary, right, like there's nothing I always say,
- 12:24Speaker 5: there's nothing scared, and like somebody has nothing to lose.
- 12:26Speaker 5: They just want to grec shop and be a pain
- 12:28Speaker 5: in the butt. I think for this one, I was
- 12:32Speaker 5: so impressed by, Like Chase, we find you know when
- 12:36Speaker 5: I was there, when I last saw you, it was
- 12:38Speaker 5: he's about to have like a breakout breakout, You're like
- 12:41Speaker 5: national level breakout here, and then we saw that on
- 12:43Speaker 5: Thursday night.
- 12:43Speaker 6: Can we do that again? Can we keep this run
- 12:46Speaker 6: game going.
- 12:47Speaker 5: You can't put it all on Flacco, as fun as
- 12:49Speaker 5: he is, and it's fun as great as these wide
- 12:51Speaker 5: receivers are. I don't think that the Bengals or any
- 12:54Speaker 5: team can win consistently with that kind of a recipe.
- 12:57Speaker 7: Right.
- 12:57Speaker 6: The Jets offense, they.
- 12:58Speaker 5: Don't have a lot of juice, but you know you
- 13:01Speaker 5: can't give them short fields and turnovers and mistakes. So
- 13:04Speaker 5: I would say, run the ball as much as possible.
- 13:07Speaker 1: All right, A couple more things for our friend k Adams.
- 13:10Speaker 1: You're a native of Chicago, and you broke news of
- 13:13Speaker 1: sorts on your show recently when Chris Collins Earth was
- 13:17Speaker 1: your guest. I was stunned. Chris told you that Michael Jordan,
- 13:21Speaker 1: the Michael Jordan grew up a Cincinnati Bengals fan. As
- 13:27Speaker 1: a Chicago person, what was your reaction.
- 13:30Speaker 5: I mean, I felt bad for Bears fans. I felt
- 13:34Speaker 5: bad for Panthers fans like you could you know where
- 13:37Speaker 5: he's from, Look, you could use like some love for
- 13:40Speaker 5: Michael Jordan and those as. I was just as stunned
- 13:43Speaker 5: as everyone, And I don't know if I believe it right.
- 13:47Speaker 5: I don't think we can believe it until we hear
- 13:49Speaker 5: it from the goat himself, So like I can text
- 13:51Speaker 5: Mike Turco and say, next time you have a little
- 13:54Speaker 5: fireside chat, you should ask him about it. It's very
- 13:58Speaker 5: interesting until I hear Michael Jordan himself help say it.
- 14:01Speaker 6: Then who knows?
- 14:02Speaker 5: If I think they're on the golf course like Dan,
- 14:04Speaker 5: was he just trolling Collinsworth?
- 14:07Speaker 1: I don't know. But Chris isn't one to just conjure
- 14:09Speaker 1: these things up.
- 14:11Speaker 3: I'm not.
- 14:11Speaker 6: I don't doubt that.
- 14:12Speaker 1: Yeah that Michael said it to Chris well.
- 14:15Speaker 5: Like so, but have you ever seen an Icky Woods shuffle?
- 14:18Speaker 5: Have you ever seen the shuffle on the in the nineties.
- 14:21Speaker 5: I didn't see Michael ever do that? Do I think
- 14:24Speaker 5: that like Michael had a boomers ice and poster in
- 14:27Speaker 5: the like, I don't know. I've never heard of such
- 14:29Speaker 5: a thing. There's nothing that correlates it. So I think
- 14:32Speaker 5: we can get the answer, hopefully from Tarico. But yeah,
- 14:35Speaker 5: Panthers and Bears fans and shambles over.
- 14:37Speaker 7: That for sure.
- 14:38Speaker 1: Trico's a college buddy of mine, so I am texting
- 14:41Speaker 1: him immediately to try to get to the bottom of
- 14:43Speaker 1: this final thing. For Kay Adams you mentioned recently, that
- 14:48Speaker 1: there's at least a thought in your mind of coming
- 14:51Speaker 1: to town for Bengals Bears. Is that a realistic possibility?
- 14:57Speaker 7: Dan?
- 14:57Speaker 5: When is that date? What is the date on that game?
- 15:00Speaker 1: That is a week from Sunday? So that is the
- 15:03Speaker 1: next home game after they beat the Jets this week, a.
- 15:06Speaker 5: Week from Sunday, let's see, So that would be the
- 15:08Speaker 5: twenty that would be the second.
- 15:11Speaker 6: I'm going to be in Chicago. It is not a
- 15:14Speaker 6: far drove.
- 15:15Speaker 5: Right, five four four five five flights into Cincinnati are brutal.
- 15:21Speaker 5: Let's just call it what it is there, but maybe
- 15:24Speaker 5: not from Chicago.
- 15:26Speaker 6: I'm not putting. Was it an early afternoon.
- 15:28Speaker 1: Game, one o'clock game.
- 15:32Speaker 5: I'm just going to say seventy five percent chance tonight.
- 15:35Speaker 1: That I ah.
- 15:36Speaker 6: But if I go, I want the red carpet rolled out.
- 15:38Speaker 1: That's I can guarantee red carpet.
- 15:40Speaker 6: I don't know if they're up.
- 15:41Speaker 5: For that, but if they, if the Bengals want to
- 15:45Speaker 5: invite me, I would go. Let's just put it like that.
- 15:47Speaker 5: I about that Bengals dot Com because want.
- 15:49Speaker 6: Me to come.
- 15:49Speaker 1: I'm there, all right. The challenge has been issued to
- 15:53Speaker 1: Bengals dot Com. I think we'll roll out the red carpet.
- 15:56Speaker 1: I know I will participate in a red carpet rollout
- 16:00Speaker 1: in hopes of seeing you at pay Course Stadium. This
- 16:02Speaker 1: is always a treat. Appreciate this so much. Hope to
- 16:05Speaker 1: see you a week from Sunday.
- 16:07Speaker 5: Dan, you were such a professional. Thank you for having
- 16:09Speaker 5: me an honor as always Gooday.
- 16:12Speaker 1: I have reached out to my buddy Mike Turko, who
- 16:14Speaker 1: is doing segments with Michael Jordan for NBC's coverage of
- 16:18Speaker 1: the NBA, and maybe when Mike and Chris Collinsworth broadcast
- 16:22Speaker 1: the Thanksgiving Night Bengals Ravens game, we'll see a SoundBite
- 16:26Speaker 1: from Michael Jordan confirming that he was a Bengals fan
- 16:30Speaker 1: growing up. In last week's went over Pittsburgh, the offense
- 16:34Speaker 1: finished with a season high four hundred and seventy yards,
- 16:38Speaker 1: one twenty more than any previous game, and there was
- 16:42Speaker 1: balance three hundred twenty eight passing yards and one forty
- 16:45Speaker 1: two on the ground. The offensive line deserves a big
- 16:49Speaker 1: pat on the back, and I caught up this week
- 16:52Speaker 1: with right tackle a Marius Mims Amrius. You faced MICHAEH
- 16:57Speaker 1: Parsons a couple of weeks ago. He had no saxon,
- 16:59Speaker 1: no quarterback hit, sending a streak of eleven straight games
- 17:03Speaker 1: where he had one or the other. He faced TJ.
- 17:05Speaker 1: Watt last week. You were on the verge of holding
- 17:08Speaker 1: him without a sack, and then with about four minutes
- 17:10Speaker 1: to go, he and Cam Hayward combined to get one
- 17:13Speaker 1: where you ticked off that you almost made it through
- 17:16Speaker 1: the game without allowing him to get to the QB.
- 17:18Speaker 3: Yes, sir, but then again, like I said, man playing
- 17:21Speaker 3: as a guy who's like I said, who's experience, who's
- 17:23Speaker 3: been around the league a long time. You know, all
- 17:26Speaker 3: you can do is, like I said, do your best
- 17:28Speaker 3: to try to limit him as much as possible. And
- 17:29Speaker 3: I feel like we did a good job of doing that.
- 17:31Speaker 3: But also too, I'll try to be perfect. I have
- 17:33Speaker 3: a perfect game. That's kind of impossible, Like no one's
- 17:35Speaker 3: gonna have a perfect game. He's a great player, So
- 17:37Speaker 3: credit to him for you know, him and Cam getting
- 17:39Speaker 3: to get that sack. But and like reality, yes, I
- 17:42Speaker 3: would love to have shut him out and not get
- 17:44Speaker 3: like giving up a sack. Like I said, no pressures
- 17:46Speaker 3: and stuff happened just because, like I said, he's a
- 17:48Speaker 3: ball player. You know, he has he has a great game,
- 17:50Speaker 3: and you know, things happen. But yeah, man, like it's
- 17:53Speaker 3: hot in me like thinking about it still, but also too,
- 17:55Speaker 3: I know I got to move on and just learn
- 17:57Speaker 3: from those mistakes. I know I'll see him again, and
- 17:59Speaker 3: like I said, I'm in a division where I play
- 18:00Speaker 3: them twice, so we'll see each other a lot. And yeah,
- 18:03Speaker 3: I think about it as still like dang, what if?
- 18:06Speaker 3: What if? What if? But it happened, something I can
- 18:08Speaker 3: learn from, something I can move past, and you know,
- 18:10Speaker 3: try to get better from.
- 18:12Speaker 1: Dan Pitture said he thought it was your best game.
- 18:14Speaker 1: Did you feel that way in certain areas?
- 18:17Speaker 3: Like I said, I do feel like each week as
- 18:19Speaker 3: it continues, I feel like I might like my game's
- 18:21Speaker 3: evolving just because like I'm just on another level of
- 18:23Speaker 3: just like like locked in and just you know, I'm
- 18:26Speaker 3: figuring out what I'm doing wrong very fast and like
- 18:29Speaker 3: two Instead of like getting to the point where coaches
- 18:32Speaker 3: are telling me what I'm doing wrong, I'm going to
- 18:34Speaker 3: them with information that I would like what I know
- 18:36Speaker 3: I did wrong and like how to fix it. So,
- 18:38Speaker 3: like I said, I'm just taking the next step of
- 18:40Speaker 3: just like being you know, being a pro and just
- 18:43Speaker 3: like diagnosing my film and just realizing, you know, like
- 18:46Speaker 3: I can do better on this play right here, and
- 18:48Speaker 3: I can go talk to coach of like what should
- 18:49Speaker 3: I do right here in the situation or how can
- 18:51Speaker 3: I do that better? So that's just me becoming a
- 18:54Speaker 3: you know, like I said, a better pro and just
- 18:55Speaker 3: to you know, learn from mistakes faster than you know
- 18:58Speaker 3: last year self correction.
- 19:00Speaker 1: It's a huge step, I.
- 19:01Speaker 3: Would think, like I said, just knowing what you did
- 19:04Speaker 3: wrong first and just being accountable and just be like, yeah, coach,
- 19:06Speaker 3: that's on me, and just you know, taking that on
- 19:08Speaker 3: the chin and just you know, how can I keep
- 19:10Speaker 3: getting better? For this is a long season count preseason
- 19:12Speaker 3: and regular season, that's twenty games each week, you just
- 19:15Speaker 3: have to die. You just have to basically dive in
- 19:16Speaker 3: and just be honest with yourself. And I've been honest
- 19:18Speaker 3: with myself and just realizing that though you know, although
- 19:21Speaker 3: I may have had a good game, but I know
- 19:23Speaker 3: there's more left than I know I can play better.
- 19:25Speaker 1: So that's a natural segue to this because in training camp,
- 19:28Speaker 1: your offensive line coach Scott Peters said the following he
- 19:31Speaker 1: was talking about your great physical gifts and he said,
- 19:33Speaker 1: you have to be greedy about how good you want
- 19:36Speaker 1: to be. It's not good enough to block people. You
- 19:39Speaker 1: have to dominate them. Is that the approach you're taking?
- 19:42Speaker 3: What you just said, Man, Scott talk about it all
- 19:43Speaker 3: the time, and it's just you know, I can win
- 19:46Speaker 3: a rep easy, I feel like, but can I dominate
- 19:49Speaker 3: that rep? Can that be teach tape like a teach
- 19:51Speaker 3: tape rep? And That's what I'm working towards. You know,
- 19:52Speaker 3: I see a lot of guys who who we show
- 19:55Speaker 3: a lot of, just like around the league, just the Pinasus,
- 19:58Speaker 3: the Lane Johnson's and the Trent Williams. You know how
- 20:00Speaker 3: they have those big splash plays and all that good stuff.
- 20:02Speaker 3: And those guys have been around the league for a minute,
- 20:04Speaker 3: and you know, I want to get to that point
- 20:05Speaker 3: when they around you're four or five and just like
- 20:08Speaker 3: trying to build those habits now, so you know, it
- 20:10Speaker 3: just comes natural.
- 20:11Speaker 1: We're chatting with the Marius Mems. I'm no expert in
- 20:14Speaker 1: offensive line play, but when I hear Scott Peters talk,
- 20:17Speaker 1: it sounds a little bit different to me. Is it
- 20:19Speaker 1: different from the way you've been coached before?
- 20:21Speaker 3: Yes, it's different in the whole scheme and just the
- 20:24Speaker 3: whole body movements and the whole basically technique technique stuff.
- 20:29Speaker 3: I think it's a good thing, just like learning new stuff,
- 20:32Speaker 3: because now you have a bigger toolbox to you know,
- 20:34Speaker 3: like to basically to use and you know, out there
- 20:36Speaker 3: with guys who are great athletes themselves. So I feel
- 20:39Speaker 3: like the more you like, the more you expand your toolbox,
- 20:42Speaker 3: the more you can like you know, dive into the
- 20:44Speaker 3: game and get like a deeper understanding. And then he's
- 20:46Speaker 3: done a great job and just explain those new techniques
- 20:48Speaker 3: to us, because like I said, it's a whole new
- 20:49Speaker 3: technique from what we were doing last year. So I
- 20:51Speaker 3: feel like he's done a good job and just harping
- 20:53Speaker 3: on just like getting better at those techniques, so we
- 20:55Speaker 3: can you know, build our basically way we call the toolbox,
- 20:58Speaker 3: So we can build our toolbox and just go out
- 21:00Speaker 3: there and you know, play more free, but also play
- 21:02Speaker 3: with more technique and play more technically sound.
- 21:05Speaker 1: Ted Carris was miked up during the game last week,
- 21:07Speaker 1: and we could hear him say over and over again,
- 21:10Speaker 1: me and you mimsy, me and you mimsy. Describe your
- 21:14Speaker 1: relationship with Ted and what you respect about him.
- 21:17Speaker 3: I just respect like the man he is and how
- 21:19Speaker 3: he comes to work every day being the same guy
- 21:21Speaker 3: I get. I'm gonna know, I'm gonna get the same
- 21:23Speaker 3: ted every day. And then too, I feel like he's
- 21:25Speaker 3: a great leader. He leads our team. I don't care
- 21:27Speaker 3: what anybody say. He's one of the best. Like I said,
- 21:29Speaker 3: best humans and best leaders I've been around my whole life.
- 21:31Speaker 3: And like I said, as if you see how hard
- 21:34Speaker 3: he practices through pain and all, and just like I've
- 21:37Speaker 3: never seen him like really take a rep off. It's
- 21:39Speaker 3: just it's just like doesn't happen. And that's something you like,
- 21:42Speaker 3: you want him the leader, and like it's something I
- 21:44Speaker 3: respect honestly, and I would want to one to throw
- 21:46Speaker 3: a wall for that guy. So it's like he leaves
- 21:49Speaker 3: us in the in the meeting rooms, he leaves us
- 21:51Speaker 3: in the walkthroughs, he leaves us out the tunnel, he
- 21:53Speaker 3: leaves us in everything. So I mean, I respect him,
- 21:56Speaker 3: I respect him as a man. As a teammate, you know,
- 21:58Speaker 3: I'm just glad to be his team. Like I said,
- 22:01Speaker 3: I always got your back when he was on pat
- 22:03Speaker 3: the last one was gonna go win the game. And
- 22:05Speaker 3: feeling like you got my back. I was like, kind
- 22:06Speaker 3: of question is that you know that?
- 22:07Speaker 1: Come on now, imri issue recently turned twenty three. You're
- 22:12Speaker 1: in your second NFL season, and yet on this offensive
- 22:15Speaker 1: line right now, you're something of a vet. The guards
- 22:18Speaker 1: are both rookies or at least in some games still
- 22:20Speaker 1: Unfairchild and Jalen Rivers have both started. Do you feel
- 22:23Speaker 1: like the three of you can be the nucleus of
- 22:27Speaker 1: this offensive line for years to come?
- 22:30Speaker 3: I do. I do feel that way, and I know
- 22:33Speaker 3: I try. I trusted the like I said Zach, I
- 22:36Speaker 3: trusted coach Pitch. I trust trusting MO line coach, and
- 22:38Speaker 3: I trusted everybody like putting a good play together to
- 22:41Speaker 3: develop that like I said, we have. I feel like
- 22:42Speaker 3: we have a good old line from left to right tackle.
- 22:45Speaker 3: And it's just a matter of, like, you know, can
- 22:47Speaker 3: those young guys step up and be what they are?
- 22:49Speaker 3: You know? And like I said, I'm one of those
- 22:51Speaker 3: young guys. And it's just we just have to just
- 22:53Speaker 3: basically put in our mind every day that like we
- 22:56Speaker 3: want to get better and continue to get better so
- 22:58Speaker 3: we can like earn the respect of our peers who
- 23:00Speaker 3: who who've like been there and done that, and they like, Okay,
- 23:02Speaker 3: those guys are ready. Those guys could be the next
- 23:04Speaker 3: guys to come over and take over the Bengals for
- 23:06Speaker 3: the next five to ten years, however long it is.
- 23:08Speaker 3: So you know, that's something I continue to work on
- 23:11Speaker 3: every day and I continue to ask myself like that
- 23:12Speaker 3: I do enough today, and then you know that I like,
- 23:15Speaker 3: do I do enough to you know, like, Okay, I
- 23:18Speaker 3: know MAM's gonna give us one hundred percent, you know,
- 23:20Speaker 3: this game or this play, however it is. And I
- 23:22Speaker 3: want to be, you know, known for that. I really,
- 23:25Speaker 3: I really do believe, like I said me Dylan and Jalen,
- 23:27Speaker 3: can you know, be the future of this whole line.
- 23:29Speaker 3: I really do believe that.
- 23:30Speaker 1: What's impressed you about your new old quarterback everything?
- 23:36Speaker 3: Man, he's just a pro. He's been around the block,
- 23:38Speaker 3: He's done it. It's just crazy how patient, how calm is.
- 23:41Speaker 3: Nothing seems to overwhelm him. It's just like when I
- 23:44Speaker 3: just I just look at it like this one and
- 23:45Speaker 3: walkthroughs and wearing wear in a huddle, it's almost like
- 23:48Speaker 3: you know, Coach Jack is giving him the play call,
- 23:50Speaker 3: but it's almost like I know it already, like before
- 23:53Speaker 3: he gets done with it, he spits it out before
- 23:55Speaker 3: he can get done, and just like like I look
- 23:58Speaker 3: at it as a big deal. Some people like just whatever,
- 24:00Speaker 3: but I look at it like this dude are bad.
- 24:02Speaker 3: He cares. He like he studies, and he like he's
- 24:05Speaker 3: a he's like he's trying to master the game. And
- 24:08Speaker 3: he's the one that has probably mastered the game because
- 24:11Speaker 3: he's seen everything. He's seen every look possible. I feel
- 24:13Speaker 3: like eighteen years in the league, there's nothing you haven't seen.
- 24:15Speaker 3: There's not a formation you haven't been in, There's not
- 24:18Speaker 3: a play you haven't ran. So he came in the
- 24:20Speaker 3: league when I was four years old, so I grew
- 24:22Speaker 3: I grew up watching him, so like that was like
- 24:24Speaker 3: Ravens in the I'm just being honest with I grew
- 24:26Speaker 3: up watching him in Big Ben go at It and
- 24:27Speaker 3: that was like the game, always like watching. So it's
- 24:30Speaker 3: just crazy being in the Hoddle like you know him,
- 24:32Speaker 3: like him being my quarterback, and it's like, you know,
- 24:35Speaker 3: it's like almost like I'm living in the dream still.
- 24:37Speaker 3: So we like, like I said, we're rolling with him,
- 24:39Speaker 3: and you know, I'm just I'm just glad to be
- 24:41Speaker 3: a part of it. Man, I'm just glad to you know,
- 24:43Speaker 3: I can go out here and take them on Sundays,
- 24:45Speaker 3: Mondays and Thursdays whatever we play.
- 24:47Speaker 1: So you know, all right, it Sunday this week the
- 24:51Speaker 1: Jets are oh and seven. That the only winless team
- 24:54Speaker 1: in the league. It's human nature to assume that the
- 24:57Speaker 1: Bengals are going to win the game. How do you
- 24:59Speaker 1: ensure that you and everybody else in that locker room
- 25:02Speaker 1: does not take the opponent lightly?
- 25:04Speaker 3: Man, Never take an opponent of the NFL likely. Man, I
- 25:06Speaker 3: know that. I know from just being an office alnement.
- 25:09Speaker 3: Just like knowing the guys they have on defense. Man,
- 25:11Speaker 3: they have one of the best, if not the best
- 25:12Speaker 3: d tackling the NFL. Quinn Williams. Everybody know that name.
- 25:16Speaker 3: They got will McDonald, Jermaine Johnson, all those guys on there.
- 25:19Speaker 3: Those are three or their four guys on the starting
- 25:22Speaker 3: the D line or for a first round picks for
- 25:24Speaker 3: a reason. So, like I said, I respect them, I
- 25:26Speaker 3: respect the old defense. I respect the team. Like I said,
- 25:29Speaker 3: they may have came up short some games, but like
- 25:31Speaker 3: I said, that's that's a that's a dang good football team.
- 25:33Speaker 3: I don't care if you if you're if you're an NFL,
- 25:35Speaker 3: I don't care who you're playing, no matter what the
- 25:37Speaker 3: record is. Never take a team likely. Man. That's the
- 25:39Speaker 3: That's how you go out there and your beat and
- 25:41Speaker 3: our approach is the same every week. Go out there
- 25:43Speaker 3: with the same mentality to win mentality. And that's what
- 25:45Speaker 3: we're gonna do. Man, We're gonna go out there with
- 25:47Speaker 3: the same mentality. And you know, like I said, hopefully,
- 25:49Speaker 3: well play clean, clean four quarter game and you know,
- 25:52Speaker 3: hopefully we can get to win. But you know we're
- 25:54Speaker 3: we're treating this like we treated it last week and
- 25:56Speaker 3: just going out their head down, you know, practicing hard
- 25:58Speaker 3: and just no matter the record, just go out there
- 26:00Speaker 3: and play winning football.
- 26:02Speaker 1: I'm Marius. I noticed something in the Thursday night game.
- 26:05Speaker 1: You were wearing gloves. Did you finally find gloves that
- 26:10Speaker 1: are big enough for those massive hands?
- 26:12Speaker 3: Say this, they're not big enough. But they're five X gloves.
- 26:16Speaker 3: They're not big enough. But if I take the edges
- 26:19Speaker 3: of where they're like the crack of my hand is,
- 26:21Speaker 3: you can't tell. So but yes, I am wearing gloves now,
- 26:25Speaker 3: but no, they're not big enough. So if somebody makes
- 26:27Speaker 3: some six gloves some six X gloves out there. Please
- 26:29Speaker 3: let me know because five exes are not working.
- 26:33Speaker 1: You weren't wearing gloves the week before against Green Day.
- 26:35Speaker 1: Was this the first time?
- 26:36Speaker 3: Yes, the first time I wore gloves really since it
- 26:38Speaker 3: got like last year I wore one of them broke
- 26:40Speaker 3: my hand. But other than that, yeah, that's the first
- 26:43Speaker 3: time I wore glove.
- 26:44Speaker 1: Appreciate your time. Enjoy those almost big enough.
- 26:48Speaker 3: Gloves, Yes, sir, I appreciate it.
- 26:51Speaker 1: In case you're wondering, MIM's hands were measured at eleven
- 26:55Speaker 1: and a quarter inches at last year's combine, the largest
- 26:59Speaker 1: of Eddie offensive lineman in the class. The Bengals Booth

- 27:24Speaker 1: the New York Jets on Sunday, a team that's still
- 27:27Speaker 1: looking for its first win under new head coach Aaron Glenn.
- 27:31Speaker 1: Earlier this week, Jets owner Woody Johnson defended his coach
- 27:36Speaker 1: and ripped his quarterback justin Fields, what's.
- 27:40Speaker 3: Your confidence level?
- 27:41Speaker 4: And Aaron to turn it around?
- 27:44Speaker 8: It looks like he's turning around parts of it.
- 27:47Speaker 1: You know.
- 27:47Speaker 8: It's hard when you have a quarterback with you know, okay,
- 27:50Speaker 8: with a rating that we've got, you know is I
- 27:54Speaker 8: mean he has stability, but something just.
- 27:57Speaker 3: Is not jibing.
- 27:58Speaker 8: But if you look at any head coach of the
- 28:00Speaker 8: quarterback like that, you're going to see similar results if
- 28:02Speaker 8: you will across the league.
- 28:03Speaker 3: You have to play.
- 28:04Speaker 8: Consistently at that position, and that's what we're going to
- 28:10Speaker 8: try to do.
- 28:11Speaker 3: In the remainder of the season.
- 28:12Speaker 1: So someone gives you hope, then send you a home.
- 28:15Speaker 8: I just think defense special teams are doing better. Defense
- 28:18Speaker 8: is pretty good. But we can just complete a pass,
- 28:23Speaker 8: it would look good.
- 28:24Speaker 1: Yikes. Fields was benched at halftime last week in favor
- 28:28Speaker 1: of thirty six year old Tyrod Taylor, and neither QB
- 28:32Speaker 1: was able to lead the team to a touchdown and
- 28:34Speaker 1: a thirteen to six loss to Carolina. So who will
- 28:39Speaker 1: start on Sunday again, Cincinnati? We put that question to
- 28:43Speaker 1: my former Syracuse University classmate Rich Semini, who covers the
- 28:47Speaker 1: Jets for ESPN, when he joined Dave Lapham and me
- 28:51Speaker 1: on the Bengals Game Plan show.
- 28:54Speaker 7: I think it'll be Tyrod Taylor. You know that was
- 28:57Speaker 7: the indications I was getting yesterday. I think I'm sure
- 29:01Speaker 7: you guys know Aeron Glenn did not announce that today.
- 29:03Speaker 7: He's playing the coach game. You know, he's doing the
- 29:07Speaker 7: old competitive advantage, trying to keep the Bengals in the
- 29:11Speaker 7: dark as long as possible. They split the practice reps
- 29:14Speaker 7: today from what I've been told, But I'd be shocked
- 29:18Speaker 7: if on Sunday Tyrod Taylor is not the quarterback. I
- 29:22Speaker 7: think they're trending in that direction.
- 29:26Speaker 9: So is it all quarterback play? I mean, the reason
- 29:30Speaker 9: that Jets have not won a football game yet and
- 29:32Speaker 9: staring at an oh and seven record, has it been
- 29:35Speaker 9: the quarterback play has been that ineffective? Or is it
- 29:40Speaker 9: a combination of man we have not supported the quarterback either.
- 29:44Speaker 9: I mean, there's no position group on the football team
- 29:47Speaker 9: that can raise their hand and say we're doing our job.
- 29:51Speaker 9: We're playing as effectively and efficiently as we as we
- 29:54Speaker 9: could and should. Is it a group effort in terms
- 29:57Speaker 9: of do you own seven mark or is it more
- 30:00Speaker 9: or on the quarterback play?
- 30:02Speaker 7: Well, if you ask the owner, Woody Johnson, he would
- 30:04Speaker 7: say it's the quarterback play. He basically threw Justin Fields
- 30:08Speaker 7: under the bus yesterday when we approached him at the
- 30:11Speaker 7: league meetings, and he, you know, he just really dumped
- 30:15Speaker 7: on Fields, which I mean what he said was not untrue.
- 30:18Speaker 7: I mean, Fields is not having a good year. This
- 30:21Speaker 7: team has gone They've only scored six touchdowns in the
- 30:24Speaker 7: last six games, and so they are really really struggling offensively.
- 30:29Speaker 7: So yeah, I would say quarterback plays a big part
- 30:32Speaker 7: of it. But early in the year, for the first
- 30:34Speaker 7: five games, the defense was horrible. I mean they were
- 30:37Speaker 7: given up over thirty points a game. So they've been
- 30:40Speaker 7: taking turns, which I think bad teams usually do. And
- 30:44Speaker 7: now the defense has settled down. The defense has actually
- 30:47Speaker 7: played two good games in a row against Carolina and Denver,
- 30:50Speaker 7: but now the offense can't get it out of its
- 30:52Speaker 7: own way, two streat games without a touchdown. But I
- 30:56Speaker 7: would say quarterback play is a big part of the issue,
- 30:59Speaker 7: which is why I believe Justin Fields is probably going
- 31:01Speaker 7: to the bench.
- 31:03Speaker 1: Rich Simani covers the Jets for ESPN talking to some
- 31:06Speaker 1: of the Bengals offensive linemen this week. They all rave
- 31:09Speaker 1: about the Jets defensive front featuring three first round draft
- 31:14Speaker 1: picks and Quinn Williams, Well McDonald and Jermaine Johnson. How
- 31:19Speaker 1: well have those three guys been playing.
- 31:23Speaker 7: Well? They don't really have the stats dan to back
- 31:26Speaker 7: it up. Quinn Williams is their best defensive player, and
- 31:29Speaker 7: I think he's only at one stack so far. He
- 31:32Speaker 7: gets double teamed a lot, but he's still a good
- 31:35Speaker 7: player even though he's not going to jump off the
- 31:37Speaker 7: stat sheet. The other guys. Jermaine Johnson's really helped them
- 31:42Speaker 7: the last two games he missed through I think it
- 31:44Speaker 7: was three games with a high ankle spring. He comes
- 31:47Speaker 7: back two weeks ago, and it's not a coincidence that
- 31:49Speaker 7: the defense started playing better when he came back two
- 31:52Speaker 7: weeks ago. And Will McDonald's purely like a pass rushing guy,
- 31:56Speaker 7: an edge player, an undersized guy who can definitely be
- 32:00Speaker 7: floyded against the run, but can bring pressure off the edge.
- 32:03Speaker 7: I would say as a group, they're probably underachieving so far.
- 32:07Speaker 7: The talent is certainly there, but I just think they
- 32:10Speaker 7: have not been able to generate consistent pressure on the quarterback.
- 32:15Speaker 9: Watching tape and talking to people in the Cincinnati Bengals organization,
- 32:20Speaker 9: they've watched a hell of a lot more tape than
- 32:22Speaker 9: I have watching games. They say that defensively, the stud
- 32:29Speaker 9: is Quentin Williams. Offensively, it's Garrett Wilson. Do you agree
- 32:34Speaker 9: with that assessment?
- 32:37Speaker 1: I do.
- 32:38Speaker 7: I think pound for pound, Quinnin Williams is their best
- 32:40Speaker 7: defensive player. You know, he's a former first team off ro.
- 32:44Speaker 7: Now Sauce Gardner gets a lot of the accolades, but
- 32:48Speaker 7: I do not believe Sauce Gardner will play in this
- 32:50Speaker 7: game on Soday, he's in the concussion protocol, and so offensively,
- 32:55Speaker 7: Garrett Wilson, I do believe is probably their best offensive player. Now,
- 32:59Speaker 7: there's a good chance he may not play in this game.
- 33:01Speaker 7: He did not practice again today. He's dealing with the
- 33:04Speaker 7: knee injury that kept him out on Sunday. They're saying
- 33:07Speaker 7: day to day. However, I am a little skeptical about
- 33:12Speaker 7: his chances. The Jets have the bye week right after Cincinnati,
- 33:15Speaker 7: so I think there's a sense in the organization that, hey,
- 33:18Speaker 7: we'll just let him sit out this game and then
- 33:20Speaker 7: have him come out of the bye week feeling one
- 33:22Speaker 7: hundred percent. So yeah, that's you know, a soft Gardner
- 33:25Speaker 7: and Garrett Wilson, of two of their best players aren't there.
- 33:28Speaker 7: It's going to be tough for them on Sunday.
- 33:30Speaker 1: Yeah, Rich, when Jamar Chase or T Higgins has to
- 33:33Speaker 1: miss a game, the Bengals have the other guy, plus
- 33:36Speaker 1: some other pretty good weapons. When Garrett Wilson is out.
- 33:40Speaker 1: How's that receiving core for the Jets.
- 33:44Speaker 7: They're receiving core for the Jets looks like a maybe,
- 33:47Speaker 7: like what does Syracuse University receiving corps look like in
- 33:50Speaker 7: nineteen eighty five?
- 33:51Speaker 3: You know, it's just.
- 33:54Speaker 7: Not good, Dan, it's you know, it's Garrett is a
- 33:59Speaker 7: sensational player. I mean, he's clearly their their wide receiver one,
- 34:02Speaker 7: but after that there is a steep drop off. Josh
- 34:06Speaker 7: Reynolds would be their number two. I guess he is
- 34:09Speaker 7: really more of a probably a four or five. They
- 34:13Speaker 7: have Alan Lazard, He's probably a four or five. What
- 34:18Speaker 7: I'm saying is they really do not have a perimeter threat.
- 34:21Speaker 7: They have a young guy, Arian Smith, a draft pick
- 34:24Speaker 7: from Georgia who's probably the fastest guy on the team.
- 34:27Speaker 7: I mean just he's a blur out there. But they
- 34:30Speaker 7: never throw him the ball because he's never opened and
- 34:33Speaker 7: you know when they do, he drops it. So yeah, long,
- 34:37Speaker 7: long answer to a question is that, Yeah, when alt
- 34:40Speaker 7: Garrett Wilson, they are probably the worst receiving core in
- 34:43Speaker 7: the league.
- 34:44Speaker 9: What about the running game, I've always been a fan
- 34:48Speaker 9: of Breise Hall. The coaches again, in talking to them
- 34:53Speaker 9: a little bit, and players as well, defensive players that
- 34:56Speaker 9: have studied the Jets, like we talked about earlier, they
- 35:00Speaker 9: they're a fan of Breess Hall. They think he's a
- 35:02Speaker 9: pretty damn good running back. They think he can do everything.
- 35:05Speaker 9: They think that, you know, he can make people miss,
- 35:07Speaker 9: great lateral quickness, he can catch the ball out of
- 35:09Speaker 9: the backfield, you know again, make you miss there, get
- 35:12Speaker 9: yards after catch. And then interestingly and importantly, he sticks
- 35:18Speaker 9: his nose right in there in the chest of linebackers
- 35:20Speaker 9: and is an excellent blitz pickup guy. Is their assessment
- 35:24Speaker 9: pretty accurate in your opinion?
- 35:26Speaker 7: Yeah, that actually is a pretty good scouting report on
- 35:28Speaker 7: Breese Halts. He is having a good year. I mean,
- 35:31Speaker 7: if you look at his numbers, you know he's having
- 35:35Speaker 7: a good year. They don't use him enough in the
- 35:37Speaker 7: passing game. It's kind of been one of the mysteries here.
- 35:41Speaker 7: I think he's such a good receiver. A couple of
- 35:43Speaker 7: years ago he had seventy five catches and he let
- 35:45Speaker 7: all running backs, and now they don't really use him
- 35:47Speaker 7: that much. The Jets do not throw screen passes to
- 35:51Speaker 7: the running backs, which is always another mystery. It would
- 35:54Speaker 7: be a great way to slow down a good pass
- 35:56Speaker 7: rushing team, and yet they don't really do that. So
- 36:00Speaker 7: but they do have a good running game. Their entire
- 36:02Speaker 7: offense is built on being a good running team. Now
- 36:06Speaker 7: when they have justin Fields in there. In Week one,
- 36:09Speaker 7: they look dynamic against Pittsburgh with Fields running some zone
- 36:14Speaker 7: reads and some RPOs and Breeze Hall running out of
- 36:17Speaker 7: the backfield and Brayln Allen. It's like, my gosh, this
- 36:20Speaker 7: looks like a pretty good offense. But they've never been
- 36:22Speaker 7: able to recapture what they had in Week one. I
- 36:25Speaker 7: think teams adjusted to what they've been doing and stopping
- 36:29Speaker 7: them on first and second down, and when you get
- 36:31Speaker 7: them in third and long, they're just not equipped to
- 36:34Speaker 7: be a third and long type passing team. For all
- 36:36Speaker 7: the reasons we discussed a moment Ago Rich.
- 36:40Speaker 1: My final question has to do with the quarterback the
- 36:42Speaker 1: Jets will be facing this Sunday, former Jet Joe Flacco,
- 36:46Speaker 1: who spent three years with New York when he was
- 36:48Speaker 1: still a youngster between the ages of thirty five and
- 36:51Speaker 1: thirty seven. Having covered him for three years, what do
- 36:55Speaker 1: you think of this renaissance and the fact that suddenly
- 36:59Speaker 1: Bengals fans are have their chests out with pride and
- 37:03Speaker 1: optimism that Joe Flacco is their quarterback. Yeah.
- 37:07Speaker 7: I watched the game last week and it was it
- 37:09Speaker 7: was fun watching two ex Jet forty year old quarterbacks
- 37:13Speaker 7: go at each other with Rogers and Blacko and Flacco
- 37:16Speaker 7: is he's the guy with nine lives. You know, it's
- 37:19Speaker 7: unbelievable how he's been able to last in this league.
- 37:22Speaker 7: His arm is obviously still really good. You know, he
- 37:25Speaker 7: doesn't move, but you know he never really could, even
- 37:28Speaker 7: in his hey day with Baltimore. But I think it's
- 37:31Speaker 7: great he's doing what he did in Cleveland. You know,
- 37:33Speaker 7: as you recall a couple of years ago, what he
- 37:35Speaker 7: did for Cleveland, he injected hope and to that team.
- 37:38Speaker 7: He looks like he's doing the same in Cincinnati, and
- 37:41Speaker 7: I think the Jets are going to be I don't know.
- 37:43Speaker 7: I'll have to get our stat people to look this up.
- 37:45Speaker 7: When's the last time a team lost to two forty
- 37:47Speaker 7: year old quarterbacks in the same year, because I think
- 37:50Speaker 7: that'll probably happen on Sunday. The Jets lost to Aaron
- 37:53Speaker 7: Rodgers in Week one, and I think they'll probably lose
- 37:55Speaker 7: to Flacco on Sunday. But he had no when he
- 37:58Speaker 7: was with the Jets, Dan he didn't really have much
- 38:00Speaker 7: success because the team around him was just so poor
- 38:04Speaker 7: and they were so poorly coached, so he never really
- 38:07Speaker 7: had He had one moment against Cleveland when he led
- 38:11Speaker 7: him back on a miraculous comeback in the last couple
- 38:13Speaker 7: of minutes, and that was really about it, and it
- 38:16Speaker 7: didn't look great. But you know, he's a guy who's persevered,
- 38:20Speaker 7: and I'm really happy for Joe. He's a good guy boy.
- 38:25Speaker 9: Back in the day, Paul Brown used to say, beware,
- 38:29Speaker 9: this football team has an own seven record, but they
- 38:32Speaker 9: are not an own seven football team. Do you think
- 38:36Speaker 9: that the New York Jets are better than their own
- 38:39Speaker 9: seven record?
- 38:42Speaker 7: You know, that's a that's a fascinating question, because if
- 38:45Speaker 7: you look at their roster they do have some very
- 38:49Speaker 7: good players. I mean, we've talked about them, Garrett Wilson
- 38:52Speaker 7: and Breise Hall. And their offensive line has a couple
- 38:55Speaker 7: of good players, and Sauce Gardner and Quinn Williams and
- 38:59Speaker 7: Jamie Sure what's a good linebacker. The two edge rushers
- 39:03Speaker 7: Johnson and McDonald. So they have good players. They just
- 39:06Speaker 7: haven't put it together, which is just the sign of
- 39:11Speaker 7: a bad team. Like I said, the defense has played
- 39:12Speaker 7: well the last two weeks. The special teams have played
- 39:15Speaker 7: well the last couple of weeks. Their punter a guy
- 39:18Speaker 7: who was in Cincinnati, Austin McNamara. He's one of the
- 39:21Speaker 7: best punters in the league right now. And Nick Folk
- 39:24Speaker 7: is a terrific kicker. So they have some components of
- 39:28Speaker 7: a winning team. But it just never shows up on
- 39:31Speaker 7: the same Sunday. And they might go out Sunday and
- 39:35Speaker 7: their offense might put up like twenty eight points and
- 39:39Speaker 7: the defense will just.
- 39:41Speaker 3: Have a bad day.
- 39:42Speaker 7: It's been that kind of year for the Jets, So
- 39:44Speaker 7: I understand what the Bengals are coming from. Zach Taylor's
- 39:47Speaker 7: probably like selling the Jets. This is not an O
- 39:49Speaker 7: and seventeen, but they are to seven for a reason
- 39:53Speaker 7: they just self destruct and too many self inflicted bolls.
- 39:57Speaker 1: Our thanks to rich Smani and here's a quick invitation
