- 0:31welcome to sunday sunday
- 0:33sunday night crossfit talk
- 0:36I'm scott she's jamie and
- 0:38in the green room ready to
- 0:40pop in any second now is
- 0:44carolyn there she is and
- 0:49she's gone can you hear me we can okay
- 0:57Like, is it clear or no?
- 0:59Yeah, it's good.
- 1:00Great.
- 1:03So we're here live Sunday night.
- 1:05I must do my weekly woe is
- 1:09me because I'm a Bears fan
- 1:10report as since Mike Ditka
- 1:14was fired in nineteen ninety two,
- 1:17the Bears are fifteen and
- 1:19fifty one against their
- 1:20arch rival Green Bay Packers.
- 1:24Today, we had them on the ropes.
- 1:27All we had to do is kick a
- 1:28field goal at the end of the game to win,
- 1:32and it got blocked.
- 1:35It got blocked because the
- 1:39Bears were just bearing.
- 1:43That is what they do now.
- 1:45They get my heart all ready for, like,
- 1:48I had Ashley Kotler's text
- 1:51ready to go to rub it in
- 1:52her face and then thud.
- 1:59Because if people don't know,
- 2:00Ashley Kotler, Justin's wife,
- 2:01is a big Green Bay Packers fan.
- 2:03For the last three years, just randomly,
- 2:06I get a text of like how
- 2:08woeful the Bears are against the Packers.
- 2:12Like how many quarterbacks
- 2:14we've gone through when
- 2:15they've gone through three.
- 2:18Like how many coaches, how many,
- 2:21like all these stats.
- 2:22And I'll just wake up one
- 2:23morning and they're waiting for me.
- 2:26And I was ready for the
- 2:27retaliation and nothing.
- 2:32What a bummer.
- 2:34And then the forty niners, Carolyn,
- 2:36lost the same way ish.
- 2:38I missed the game, but yes,
- 2:40I see the score.
- 2:42Gino Smith last second
- 2:45touchdown to win the game.
- 2:47Gino.
- 2:50the seahawks beat the
- 2:51foreigners but then we're
- 2:52not all like jamie and lana
- 2:54who have a team that scores
- 2:56every time they touch the
- 2:57ball points um against the
- 3:02woeful jacksonville jaguars
- 3:03yeah I mean I should
- 3:06technically be a bills fan
- 3:07with how close I am to the
- 3:09to buffalo but I mean that
- 3:12was a good game yeah that's
- 3:14what I just finished
- 3:14watching right that was an amazing game
- 3:19I mean,
- 3:19if the Niners aren't going to play
- 3:20well this year,
- 3:21maybe Lex could mute or not hear this,
- 3:25but maybe I'll just go for
- 3:26the Bills this year.
- 3:27There you go.
- 3:29Josh Allen on fourth and two,
- 3:31running it all the way into
- 3:32the end zone was... I
- 3:35actually jumped out of my chair.
- 3:36It was so cool.
- 3:38I don't like undefeated
- 3:39teams and total domination.
- 3:41I like when it's mixed up a little bit.
- 3:43So, yeah, that was pretty good.
- 3:47Well...
- 3:49Have your weeks been?
- 3:52I had a good week.
- 3:54We ended up going to Mount
- 3:55Pleasant to the Soaring
- 3:57Eagle Casino yesterday for
- 3:59my niece's eighteenth birthday.
- 4:01So took her in there and did
- 4:02some gambling.
- 4:05I had her behind.
- 4:09She ended up like five
- 4:11hundred or six hundred up.
- 4:15Yeah, I lost like seventy bucks.
- 4:17I think Aaron lost like a hundred, but.
- 4:20Sorry,
- 4:21do you have a cap when you play like
- 4:23what's like?
- 4:24Yeah, I took I took seventy.
- 4:26That's what I was willing to play with.
- 4:29And I had seventy for Aaron.
- 4:31I think Aaron had some of his own money.
- 4:33I was actually up.
- 4:35I was up like, I don't know,
- 4:37sixty at one point.
- 4:38I just do slots.
- 4:39We did a little bit of roulette.
- 4:40So, yeah, that's fine.
- 4:45Yeah, I go in with twenty, twenty five.
- 4:49Like that's usually my cap,
- 4:50but because I'm a cheapskate.
- 4:53Yeah, I am, too.
- 4:54I don't I don't love to bet money,
- 4:56but it was fun.
- 4:59It was a good night.
- 5:00Kenneth Galap says ripping
- 5:02some cigs and gambling all
- 5:03the new eighteen year old privileges.
- 5:05That's what we said.
- 5:05So when we called her for
- 5:07her birthday was actually Tuesday.
- 5:10And when we called her, Aaron was like,
- 5:12did you go buy some cigarettes?
- 5:13And she's like,
- 5:14you got to be twenty one now,
- 5:16which I didn't even realize
- 5:17apparently to be twenty one
- 5:18to buy cigarettes.
- 5:22OK.
- 5:22Yeah.
- 5:25Not that she would do it, but.
- 5:30Carolyn, you got back from Scotland when?
- 5:33I got back Monday at like
- 5:36nine PM and I went like
- 5:37right to bed to get used to
- 5:41this time zone here.
- 5:43I've been going to bed pretty early,
- 5:44like every day of the week
- 5:45around eight thirty nine.
- 5:49But.
- 5:49I felt like I went right back on track.
- 5:52I was at school Tuesday morning,
- 5:54and it felt like a regular work day.
- 5:56I wasn't overly tired from the travel.
- 6:00How was it going?
- 6:01Because I'm good west, but going east,
- 6:04I'm crushed every time.
- 6:08I was good the first day.
- 6:09It was almost the second day,
- 6:11I was a little bit...
- 6:13like the first day you're
- 6:14almost like surviving and I
- 6:17for me it catches up on the
- 6:18second day I wanted to nap
- 6:20and just kind of get out of
- 6:22routine where I shouldn't
- 6:24um but it was okay it
- 6:27wasn't too bad I think for
- 6:28me it was only five hours
- 6:30for lex it was eight so it
- 6:31would be more for her but
- 6:33she was able to get right
- 6:34on schedule right away
- 6:35essentially so it was good yeah
- 6:39why the doctor's appointment on Friday?
- 6:41And I announced a couple of
- 6:42weeks ago that I've weaned
- 6:43myself off of insulin.
- 6:46Um, when I had a fib, my,
- 6:47my sugar was up to like, ten point six,
- 6:49a one C and a couple months ago,
- 6:53three months ago,
- 6:53it was six point zero with the insulin,
- 6:56but I've weaned myself off.
- 6:57So they measured again and
- 6:58now I'm at five point seven
- 7:00without insulin.
- 7:02Um, so the doctor is like ecstatic, um,
- 7:05that it just keeps dropping
- 7:07and dropping and dropping.
- 7:08Um,
- 7:09And so I'm super stoked.
- 7:10That's been my, my big,
- 7:12big news of the weekend.
- 7:14Even a bear's loss can't
- 7:15take away that joy.
- 7:18What have you,
- 7:18what have you changed like the most?
- 7:20Like, is it like your diet?
- 7:21Are you getting back in the
- 7:22gym a little bit more?
- 7:24Like what, what's making it go down?
- 7:27so I'm I'm taking a
- 7:28different approach at the
- 7:29gym like if I if I feel
- 7:31good I I do a metcon if I
- 7:34don't feel good I do like
- 7:35bodybuilding or a lifting
- 7:37sesh just to kind of like
- 7:39mentally be okay um and and
- 7:42that's I think the bigger
- 7:44piece is the stress like
- 7:46I've just had to de-stress
- 7:47a lot of things in my life
- 7:49and get rid of a lot of the
- 7:50my the things that were
- 7:51stressing me out and um go
- 7:54back to go back to therapy
- 7:56go back to talking about
- 7:57all the things um and
- 8:00working through that and I
- 8:01think that has been the
- 8:02biggest the biggest thing
- 8:04um and that has helped me
- 8:06with an approach um and
- 8:10with that like and I'm I am
- 8:13taking a little bit
- 8:14different approach with my eating um
- 8:18And I kind of went back to
- 8:19an old method when I first
- 8:21was diagnosed as a diabetic.
- 8:23I got off of everything.
- 8:26Just eating when I'm hungry
- 8:28and making sure that
- 8:29whatever I'm eating is good
- 8:31for my body and not bad for my body.
- 8:34Do you like focus on protein like?
- 8:37proteins, fruits and vegetables.
- 8:40Really because of the diabetic piece,
- 8:41I am reducing carbs down a
- 8:43bit because I need to get
- 8:45the sugars out of my blood system.
- 8:47But when I do that,
- 8:48then everything in my body
- 8:50starts working correctly again.
- 8:51So then like the weight loss
- 8:53is faster and all that
- 8:55other stuff starts happening.
- 8:57so I just I had to like just
- 8:59reset everything for myself
- 9:01get get healthy again so
- 9:04that um everything else
- 9:06works and then I can attack
- 9:08you know maybe attacking
- 9:09the gym differently but I
- 9:10really am enjoying the way
- 9:11I'm doing it now like if my
- 9:13body feels good I do it
- 9:15like a good hard metcon if
- 9:17it doesn't I do
- 9:18bodybuilding and that way
- 9:19I'm still moving but it's
- 9:21um but it's it's something
- 9:23that I enjoy when I'm when
- 9:24I'm not feeling great um
- 9:28so that's kind of been my approach.
- 9:31Are you going to do the gym
- 9:32or have you been, um, more at the garage?
- 9:36So it's been more at the garage,
- 9:37but I have gone back to the
- 9:38gym a little bit more.
- 9:40Um, uh,
- 9:41because Julie has been working from
- 9:43home more cause she's
- 9:43getting closer to her surgery.
- 9:45Her knee pain is getting greater.
- 9:47Um, so she, so we,
- 9:48the car is at the house more, but, um,
- 9:52but yeah.
- 9:53Cool.
- 9:55But then there's going to be
- 9:56her going through the
- 9:57surgery and me doing all that stuff,
- 9:59which is going to, yeah.
- 10:01So I've got two propane
- 10:03heaters now for the garage as we hit,
- 10:06go into winter.
- 10:07So yeah.
- 10:12So yeah,
- 10:12but everything's going well that way.
- 10:15One more thing I want to
- 10:15talk about before we get into CrossFit,
- 10:17though,
- 10:18is an EA Sports announced
- 10:21announced that their NHL
- 10:22twenty five game is going
- 10:24to include the women's
- 10:25league players as a
- 10:27selection or their teams as
- 10:29selection to play with on the game.
- 10:32And I texted Carolyn
- 10:34immediately because she
- 10:35just retired or we'd be
- 10:37able to play as Carolyn
- 10:38Prevost on this game.
- 10:40It's true.
- 10:41It's true.
- 10:41It's true.
- 10:42No,
- 10:42I'm happy for all my friends and ex
- 10:45teammates.
- 10:45That's really cool.
- 10:46Good addition.
- 10:48I felt like they did it with
- 10:49the basketball.
- 10:51It's nice to see that the
- 10:52hockey's following suit and
- 10:54that just more representation,
- 10:57more cool opportunities
- 10:59like this for the female
- 11:00side of the sport.
- 11:01It's great.
- 11:03I also noticed that ESPN
- 11:05shows the pro lacrosse
- 11:06league and they are adding
- 11:09a female pro lacrosse
- 11:11league in twenty five as well.
- 11:13And ESPN is going to show that as well.
- 11:16Women's sports is taking
- 11:18huge leaps in the last
- 11:20eighteen to twenty four months.
- 11:22well,
- 11:23we're actually showcasing it versus
- 11:25before we were barely seeing it.
- 11:27But once they started
- 11:28showcasing it and you start
- 11:29to follow the athletes and everything,
- 11:32people have become real
- 11:33fans of the sports, which is awesome.
- 11:37I think the video game step is huge.
- 11:40If little girls can play as
- 11:42pro basketball players and
- 11:44pro hockey players,
- 11:46that's just going to
- 11:47incentivize them even more
- 11:50to jump into those sports.
- 11:52yeah so I think that's
- 11:55that's awesome so um we'll
- 12:00get into the crossfit stuff
- 12:02uh I want to start off with
- 12:04tomorrow will be the final
- 12:05episode of all access
- 12:08behind the scenes at the
- 12:08crossfit games masters
- 12:10edition um I'm a little sad
- 12:14this week has been the
- 12:15hardest week of my of
- 12:16putting this together it is
- 12:18the longest episode yet
- 12:22And I think because I was by
- 12:23myself on Sunday,
- 12:25Ellie had to do some other
- 12:26things and I didn't know
- 12:27how much she was getting each day.
- 12:29So I just was like trying to
- 12:31make sure I had enough
- 12:31footage and I had so much
- 12:35even cutting it down.
- 12:36I have fifty five minutes of an episode.
- 12:38Wow.
- 12:39So so tomorrow we are starting at noon.
- 12:43um to give a full like lunch
- 12:45hour noon to to one o'clock
- 12:47um for that it's already
- 12:49set up in the system to go
- 12:50tomorrow at noon uh but I
- 12:52actually have two trailers
- 12:53for you tonight uh one is a
- 12:55typical trailer and then
- 12:56there's one story that was
- 12:58so cool I wanted to pull it
- 12:59out and uh kind of
- 13:01highlight it so what I'm
- 13:03going to do is go ahead and
- 13:04play those for you uh here
- 13:07is the first one
- 13:08Just typical training, just typical clip,
- 13:12and we'll talk about it after.
- 13:14Here we go.
- 13:18Good.
- 13:18Last day, best day.
- 13:18Ready to carry this last one?
- 13:19I am.
- 13:20I'm excited for this one.
- 13:20This is going to be a fun one.
- 13:22It's the end of it.
- 13:23Got to go strong.
- 13:24Can't hold back.
- 13:25Hard today because you're
- 13:26sore or good because you
- 13:28see the light at the end of the tunnel?
- 13:29Sore.
- 13:30Sore.
- 13:31What's the light at the end of the tunnel?
- 13:33Eight minutes.
- 13:36Last day, you still on the hunt?
- 13:38Still on the hunt.
- 13:42You said this was not anticipated,
- 13:44but enjoying the ride?
- 13:45Oh my god, it's not what I expected,
- 13:49but yeah, it's been fun.
- 13:54We do wrap-up shows every night,
- 13:55and I read your name off as
- 13:56one of the leaders.
- 13:57Oh, thank you, thank you, thank you.
- 13:58Have you had fun this weekend?
- 14:01Oh, it's been great.
- 14:01It's such an amazing experience.
- 14:03Yeah, it's my first time,
- 14:04so I've been trying to get
- 14:07here for a long time.
- 14:09It's so much fun to be back
- 14:11out with all my friends and
- 14:12seeing people that I
- 14:13competed with so many years
- 14:15ago and meeting new people.
- 14:17I just think it's so inspiring.
- 14:23The individuals are inspiring,
- 14:24but to see Masters athletes
- 14:26just doing unbelievable things.
- 14:30I don't want to say at our age,
- 14:31but that it can continue.
- 14:33It doesn't deteriorate.
- 14:35Tired.
- 14:35Having fun this weekend?
- 14:37Absolutely.
- 14:38Having a blast.
- 14:40What's been the best part of
- 14:41this weekend so far?
- 14:43Camaraderie.
- 14:44Seeing old friends.
- 14:46It's a competition.
- 14:47We're here to do a job.
- 14:47We've worked hard.
- 14:48Worked all year for it.
- 14:50It's been a long season, too.
- 14:51That's the other thing.
- 14:52But to get here and see
- 14:53familiar faces and find friendships again,
- 14:58it's been a blast.
- 14:59problem between both I'm
- 15:01trying to use my legs that
- 15:02like so even though the
- 15:04body speed up still do that
- 15:06and focus on and mechanics
- 15:07yeah consistency like try
- 15:09to be efficient it will
- 15:11help for as much as they
- 15:12can at this point I'll do
- 15:13four four you watch how
- 15:15slow it is it's like just do three three
- 15:22Get a big lead and just chillin'?
- 15:24No, I wanna try and win it.
- 15:27I'm gonna try and do it unbroken.
- 15:29Brandon told me I could
- 15:30probably try to do that, so I'm gonna,
- 15:33per his advice, try to go unbroken.
- 16:21So that is the trailer for
- 16:22the final episode.
- 16:24The workout was bar
- 16:25muscle-ups and single arm
- 16:29dumbbell thrusters.
- 16:30For the older age groups,
- 16:31they actually scaled them
- 16:33back to chest-to-bar
- 16:34pull-ups and they complained.
- 16:36And if you've been watching other episodes,
- 16:38they talk about that a
- 16:39little bit and they
- 16:40actually modified it so
- 16:41that the last round of
- 16:43chest-to-bar got moved back
- 16:45up to bar muscle-ups.
- 16:47So if you had them,
- 16:48you got to show them off.
- 16:50And it was watching the
- 16:52older age groups hit bar
- 16:53muscle ups at the end of
- 16:55the weekend was one of the
- 16:57coolest things I watched all weekend.
- 17:01And a lot of them talk about it.
- 17:04I like that version,
- 17:06adding in handstand walk
- 17:07for the last round or
- 17:08adding in the bar muscle
- 17:09for the last round.
- 17:10I like that better.
- 17:13Just lets the people shine
- 17:15that have those particular skills.
- 17:18yeah yeah um crossfit said
- 17:21that's some great video
- 17:22with solid royalty-free
- 17:23music and some sea kips uh
- 17:26yeah uh yeah I I dive into
- 17:30royalty-free music so much
- 17:31during doing this uh but
- 17:33it's this has been really
- 17:34good uh lynn says my chest
- 17:38of our pull-ups don't even look like that
- 17:43So with that,
- 17:43there was also another story.
- 17:46I've gotten to know Shanna
- 17:47Bunce since Legends last
- 17:51year as she won Legends and
- 17:53we interviewed all the winners last year.
- 17:57And afterwards,
- 17:57she was talking about a new goal she had.
- 18:01And so I'm just going to
- 18:01play this real quick.
- 18:03And this is just a small
- 18:06snippet of what you're
- 18:07going to see in the final episode.
- 18:10But I wanted to highlight
- 18:11her and what she's doing.
- 18:19So what is your goal to set
- 18:20the world record in pole vaulting?
- 18:22Yeah, I guess since you're here and you're,
- 18:25yes.
- 18:26My goal next year is I'm
- 18:27gonna try pole vaulting and
- 18:31I'm going to go for the
- 18:33world record in my age
- 18:33group which is ten feet three inches.
- 18:39And how many times have you pole vaulted?
- 18:40Never.
- 18:41So this is going to be very
- 18:43interesting because I've never done it.
- 18:44I don't know if I can do it.
- 19:04Wow.
- 19:07And I thought she was joking around.
- 19:09When, when I recorded it and she goes in,
- 19:11like I said,
- 19:12this is a very small snippet
- 19:13of our conversation.
- 19:15And then I was following her on Instagram.
- 19:17She is really going after it.
- 19:20And you'll see,
- 19:21I grabbed a bunch of her
- 19:22Instagram posts showing her
- 19:24progress and where she is today.
- 19:27So you'll have to check that out.
- 19:29And of course I put,
- 19:30I buried that at the end of
- 19:32the documentary.
- 19:33So you have to watch the
- 19:34whole thing to see it.
- 19:35That is crazy.
- 19:36Props to her.
- 19:36She needs to reach out to
- 19:38Danielle Brandon and get some tips.
- 19:40Yeah.
- 19:41Yeah,
- 19:41so I don't want to give too much away,
- 19:44but a coach actually reached out to her.
- 19:45Oh, okay.
- 19:48Because she's a taller athlete,
- 19:50if you've never met Shanna.
- 19:52She's a very tall athlete.
- 19:54And a coach reached out to
- 19:56her and said she has the
- 19:57perfect body type to be a pole vaulter.
- 20:01And that's what put this
- 20:03earworm into her brain.
- 20:05And now she's really going to go for it.
- 20:08It's a very difficult sport.
- 20:10Yeah.
- 20:11It requires a lot of speed, precision,
- 20:14flexibility.
- 20:15That's cool.
- 20:16Strength.
- 20:20We'll be rooting for her.
- 20:22It sounds like saying
- 20:23underwater basket weaving world record.
- 20:25Yeah.
- 20:28And until you realize it's a,
- 20:29it's a real idea.
- 20:32Yeah.
- 20:32Yeah.
- 20:33Yeah.
- 20:33That's when she was saying it, I was like,
- 20:36wait,
- 20:37I didn't have my camera on record
- 20:39and I turned around and I'm like,
- 20:40I hit record as you said this.
- 20:43And she's like, yeah, I,
- 20:44that's what I'm doing.
- 20:45And then we have a nice
- 20:46conversation about it.
- 20:49Yeah.
- 20:50It's pretty cool.
- 20:50You know,
- 20:51when the championship is or like where,
- 20:53where she does it at,
- 20:54can she do it at any meet?
- 20:55Yeah.
- 20:57I don't think she had a meat
- 20:59in mind for this.
- 21:00It was just, let's go through the steps,
- 21:02see where I'm at, see where I get to.
- 21:04And can I actually pull it off?
- 21:08But what you'll see tomorrow is she's,
- 21:10she's much further along
- 21:11than I thought she would be
- 21:12at this point.
- 21:15So cool.
- 21:15When does she try it?
- 21:18She didn't never said when
- 21:19she was going to try it.
- 21:20She said just in the course
- 21:21of twenty twenty five.
- 21:22Yeah.
- 21:23Cool.
- 21:25So.
- 21:27Yeah, it's going to be cool.
- 21:29And I'll continue to follow.
- 21:31We'll keep updating on this
- 21:32show as she goes forward as
- 21:35to where she gets to on that.
- 21:36But you'll have to check it out for sure.
- 21:40That's awesome.
- 21:42So now that that's all out of the way, um,
- 21:46our very own Carolyn
- 21:47Prevost was over in
- 21:48Scotland and she got to do
- 21:50a lot of things while she was there.
- 21:53Um, how did the trip go overall?
- 21:55Did you just visiting Scotland?
- 21:57What was that like?
- 22:00It was cool.
- 22:00We didn't get too much time
- 22:02to tour because we were
- 22:05obviously wanting to watch
- 22:06the CrossFit competition.
- 22:08It's not like I was going to
- 22:10go to Scotland and not be
- 22:12at the CrossFit competition
- 22:13the whole day.
- 22:13So we had one day where we went downtown.
- 22:16We walked around.
- 22:18I mean, there's castles everywhere.
- 22:19We didn't get to go to the
- 22:21castles that were about a half hour,
- 22:28the competition itself.
- 22:31I mean,
- 22:31I got to test the dual the
- 22:33Wednesday when I got there.
- 22:35So Lex and I both got in the
- 22:37Wednesday and then we were
- 22:39just heading to the hotel
- 22:40gym to do a workout.
- 22:41And I get a text from Katie.
- 22:43It's like, when have you landed?
- 22:44And what are your plans basically?
- 22:47And I was like, well,
- 22:48I was just about to go do a workout.
- 22:50She's like, can you come and
- 22:52test something for me and I
- 22:52was like sure so we did a
- 22:55small workout at the hotel
- 22:56gym and then I left Lex at
- 22:58the hotel and went to go
- 22:59test the dual just for like
- 23:02transition wise and
- 23:03everything we made a small
- 23:05adjustment to the original
- 23:07workout on the power stairs
- 23:09and then yeah I mean that
- 23:12one was fun to do so then
- 23:17you were asked to be on the
- 23:18desk of the tailgate party
- 23:22which was awesome.
- 23:25Were you surprised you got on so early?
- 23:28Because you were one of the
- 23:28first people on the desk.
- 23:31Yeah.
- 23:31I mean, I don't know, right?
- 23:32Like I'm there.
- 23:33So I don't know who had been
- 23:34before me or who's coming after me.
- 23:37I got an email saying that
- 23:38they had a couple of slots
- 23:39that they were looking to put me in.
- 23:42And then as I,
- 23:45arrived there the one day I
- 23:47was doing the burpee
- 23:48challenge and then someone
- 23:49didn't show up for their
- 23:50slot so then I filled in um
- 23:53another time I think I was
- 23:54on the desk maybe three
- 23:56three times three or four
- 23:57times and then the burpee
- 23:59challenge which in my
- 24:00opinion was good enough for
- 24:02your um for my bet against
- 24:04you it was my I'll take
- 24:07that under consideration
- 24:11Okay, great.
- 24:12But no, the rest of the weekend,
- 24:13I got to sit in the box, like the suite,
- 24:18along with a lot of the
- 24:19legends athletes that were there.
- 24:22Caught up with a lot of
- 24:23those athletes and enjoyed
- 24:25the competition.
- 24:26Met some of the sponsors.
- 24:30Did some shopping around.
- 24:31Got the newer version of the Crocs.
- 24:34Yeah.
- 24:36Yeah.
- 24:38So,
- 24:38was their setup as professional as ours?
- 24:43For the broadcast?
- 24:45It was on par, on par.
- 24:47On par.
- 24:48Okay.
- 24:48Yeah.
- 24:52Good.
- 24:52Did you have fun doing the tailgate show?
- 24:54Because it looked like, well, one,
- 24:58it looked like you had fun,
- 24:59but it also looked like you
- 25:00were the one that had to
- 25:01keep the train on the tracks.
- 25:04maybe it's cause like,
- 25:04I'm such a fan of the sports.
- 25:06So like, as they're,
- 25:07they get talking sometimes,
- 25:08like I'm always just like
- 25:09watching the race.
- 25:10Cause it's just like,
- 25:11I feel like I I'm still
- 25:12involved in the sport and, you know,
- 25:14competing and, and, you know,
- 25:17watching my competitors and
- 25:18stuff like that.
- 25:19So like,
- 25:20I'd be like talking and joking around,
- 25:22but like seriously,
- 25:22like trying to at least pay
- 25:24attention to what was happening.
- 25:26Um, so yeah,
- 25:27maybe I would bring it back to the,
- 25:29to the race sometimes.
- 25:31Um,
- 25:32And you have like a TV in front of you,
- 25:34like a monitor with the, with the race
- 25:36Yeah, there was like three smaller TVs.
- 25:38I didn't have my glasses,
- 25:39but they were like,
- 25:41I couldn't see like the leader sometimes,
- 25:42like if there was written small on the TV,
- 25:44but then there was a big TV
- 25:46right behind where, um,
- 25:48like if I was looking at, um, at Pat,
- 25:52then the huge TV was in the back.
- 25:54So when I'd be like looking at him talking,
- 25:56I could see way better.
- 25:58Um,
- 25:59like actually the positions of the
- 26:00athletes and everything like that.
- 26:02Um, yeah.
- 26:03So we, I mean,
- 26:04you weren't missing the action.
- 26:06Well,
- 26:07the smaller TVs explains a lot
- 26:09because many of the
- 26:10athletes that were on the
- 26:11tailgate were like,
- 26:13I don't... Who's that in first?
- 26:14Who's that?
- 26:15So it wasn't just you.
- 26:16It was... Yeah,
- 26:18you had the big screen TV
- 26:20that was on the right side of the desk.
- 26:23That's the one that you
- 26:24could really see everything.
- 26:25And then, yeah,
- 26:28the TVs that were in front of us,
- 26:30you could see the leaders.
- 26:33I could mostly tell...
- 26:35like when they're showing
- 26:36the athlete itself like I
- 26:37know what their body looks
- 26:38like and how they move but
- 26:40it was like if you on the
- 26:41left side the flags and and
- 26:44the leaders or the scores
- 26:45of where they were at it
- 26:47was a little bit too small
- 26:48from the desk to actually
- 26:50see the order of the rest
- 26:53of the field so I would
- 26:55often glance over at pat
- 26:57just to see the the real the real race
- 27:02So my last question about
- 27:03the desk is Sunday morning,
- 27:06they had some scotch
- 27:07whiskey on the desk that it
- 27:11appeared that some of the
- 27:12people started
- 27:13participating in early in the day.
- 27:18And the show got really loose at times,
- 27:22which I found amusing and enjoyable.
- 27:28Is that is that factual?
- 27:31uh I think a little bit they
- 27:33also had food at one point
- 27:35when I when I got there
- 27:36there was like fish and
- 27:37chip and a bunch of other
- 27:38things that was on the desk
- 27:39I guess and yeah um so then
- 27:42there was this plate of
- 27:43chocolate and I was getting
- 27:45hungry and I was like oh I
- 27:47want this chocolate right
- 27:48now it's some european
- 27:49chocolate I didn't know it
- 27:50was whiskey chocolate so I
- 27:52had this whiskey chocolate
- 27:53and I was like ugh it was
- 27:55not what I was expecting to bite into
- 27:59But then they also had, yeah,
- 28:00the scotch on the table.
- 28:01I didn't have a drink of that one.
- 28:04I'm not a whiskey drinker.
- 28:06I'm not really a drinker anyways,
- 28:07but definitely not whiskey.
- 28:10Yeah,
- 28:11I got to witness you trying the
- 28:13chocolate.
- 28:13It was pretty funny.
- 28:14Yeah, that was not my favorite.
- 28:18Yeah.
- 28:20So the competition overall,
- 28:23you got to witness that.
- 28:24You got to watch.
- 28:27What was that like,
- 28:28getting to watch that live?
- 28:30It was awesome.
- 28:31I mean,
- 28:32it was completely different than Texas.
- 28:35I think the fact that when
- 28:37Texas was in a baseball field,
- 28:38like baseball fields are so
- 28:40big in terms of the seating.
- 28:45Like there was so much
- 28:45seating at Round Rock.
- 28:48that it made it seem like empty,
- 28:51even though they could have
- 28:52had as many fans as, um, Aberdeen.
- 28:55Like it was just hard to tell.
- 28:57Like it just looked like it was, you know,
- 28:58in certain sections was busy.
- 29:00Um, I felt like the fans were great.
- 29:03They showed up to each, each event,
- 29:06including the strong man.
- 29:07Like it wasn't just a small
- 29:09group watching a strong man
- 29:10and then they would leave.
- 29:11Like it,
- 29:11it felt like every event was
- 29:13getting watched.
- 29:14Um,
- 29:16the between the events the
- 29:18one I forget what her name
- 29:19is she has an accent she
- 29:22was keeping the crowd going
- 29:23like there were some
- 29:24drinking competitions there
- 29:25was some kiss cam there was
- 29:27dance cams there was all
- 29:31kinds of stuff between I
- 29:32thought she did a good job
- 29:33of just kind of keeping the
- 29:34flow between between the events um
- 29:37the actual field of play looked great.
- 29:40I thought the turf was a great addition,
- 29:43um, to, uh,
- 29:45just to the indoor venue that
- 29:47you don't see that.
- 29:47So it's still brought a Lauren Smith.
- 29:49Yeah, that's right.
- 29:50That's her name.
- 29:51Um, yeah, the Simba camp, uh, they, uh,
- 29:57That turf feeling just like
- 29:59brings that outdoor that
- 30:00they couldn't really do inside.
- 30:02So I really liked the
- 30:03addition of the turf there.
- 30:05It looked clean.
- 30:07It was pretty dark where the fans were.
- 30:09So like it just kept the
- 30:11spotlight onto the floor, which is cool.
- 30:16I like that.
- 30:17Um, the events itself, uh, there were some,
- 30:20some great, great races like the,
- 30:22the Ricky Gerard, uh,
- 30:26just edging out Jeff Adler
- 30:27in that first event was
- 30:29exciting to watch.
- 30:30You know what, for,
- 30:31for a first event where normally like,
- 30:33I don't care to watch a
- 30:34long run when they were
- 30:35coming in and out and then
- 30:37trying to figure out which
- 30:38sandbag to get.
- 30:40I actually really liked
- 30:41watching that event.
- 30:42Probably one of my favorite
- 30:43ones of the weekend to watch.
- 30:45Um,
- 30:47I actually, from a broadcast perspective,
- 30:49I thought it was fun to
- 30:50watch too because they had
- 30:51good cameras outside to get
- 30:54that quick loop.
- 30:56And it wasn't like too long
- 30:57of a run where it,
- 31:00and they did a good job of
- 31:01not just watching the leaders.
- 31:02They had like a camera in the middle.
- 31:04So you'd see some people
- 31:05coming out as others are going down.
- 31:07And I thought that was good.
- 31:09Too many times we only get
- 31:11to see the leader of a run race.
- 31:14Yep.
- 31:16Yes, I thought that was good.
- 31:19Some of the events,
- 31:20I was surprised in some of the, I guess,
- 31:26performances, I should say.
- 31:28Maybe I expected more of
- 31:30them in comparison to myself.
- 31:33Sometimes, like even the Snatch one,
- 31:36there was a lot more that
- 31:37were stuck on the Snatch
- 31:38than I anticipated.
- 31:41Um, cause they all broke up.
- 31:43They all broke up the ring muscle ups,
- 31:44I think, except for one person.
- 31:47So like I was expecting,
- 31:48if you're breaking up,
- 31:49the ring was at muscle up,
- 31:50especially as a male,
- 31:51I didn't expect them to be
- 31:52struggling on the snatches
- 31:54as much as they were,
- 31:55but they were short bars.
- 31:57on turf and that can play a
- 31:59factor as well.
- 32:00I tested with the short bar as well.
- 32:02Um,
- 32:02when I did mine and it just makes it
- 32:04seem heavier, of course,
- 32:06but I didn't think that
- 32:06they would struggle as much.
- 32:08Um, so I don't know,
- 32:11like Haley Adams was one of
- 32:13the slowest ones to the, to the snatch.
- 32:16She did,
- 32:16she did like three or four sets on
- 32:18the ring muscle ups and she
- 32:19was probably the fastest
- 32:20one on the snatch and got like,
- 32:23top five in that workout.
- 32:24Like, yeah, she did really well.
- 32:27It didn't have to be as much
- 32:29about the snatch.
- 32:31If I think if they broke up
- 32:32their rings a little tiny bit more,
- 32:34they could have cycled
- 32:35through that snatch a
- 32:36little bit better and then
- 32:38actually had a foot race on the shuttles.
- 32:42Is it appropriate to be
- 32:44sneaky like that in developing it?
- 32:46Was it meant to be sneaky?
- 32:47Like that really,
- 32:49you don't want to tire
- 32:51yourself out on the mob,
- 32:53on the muscle ups, because if you do,
- 32:55it's going to cost you on the snatches.
- 32:58Yeah.
- 32:58If you go too hard on the ring, muscle ups,
- 32:59your shoulders,
- 33:00those first couple of reps are tough.
- 33:05Yeah.
- 33:05So it's just like,
- 33:06it's really just the pacing
- 33:07and then it's finding the
- 33:09right pace where you can move the bar.
- 33:11Yeah.
- 33:13Yeah.
- 33:14We talked about it on the
- 33:15wrap up show that it really
- 33:17became a snatch workout.
- 33:19If you could get through them smooth, you,
- 33:21you were going to do well.
- 33:22Yeah.
- 33:23I mean, if you look like G out there,
- 33:24like you're, you're golden, um, although
- 33:28Dallin did beat him in the second heat,
- 33:30but, um, yeah, if you could,
- 33:33if you could move through it,
- 33:34like at a moderate pace, but again,
- 33:36if you were smarter on the
- 33:37ring muscle ups, like I bet you,
- 33:40that's the type of workout
- 33:41that if you release early
- 33:42and the athletes get to actually test it,
- 33:45it would have been a
- 33:46different workout with a
- 33:47different strategy and
- 33:49actually finding the pace
- 33:50that you can hold in the
- 33:50bike on the ring muscle ups
- 33:52to move the snatch at a,
- 33:54at a good rhythm.
- 33:56Um,
- 33:59What else was the third event?
- 34:01The brave heart one.
- 34:02I liked that one.
- 34:04I thought that was, uh, I liked the,
- 34:07the double handstand pushup
- 34:10that definitely makes your
- 34:11shoulders a lot more tired.
- 34:13Um,
- 34:15That's a movement we hadn't
- 34:16seen officially in a bigger
- 34:20CrossFit competition as far as I know.
- 34:24I want to ask you a question
- 34:25about that because, again,
- 34:28Laura finishes towards the
- 34:30bottom in a strict
- 34:32handstand push-up workout.
- 34:36You have told us on this
- 34:37show that you're not a great swimmer,
- 34:39but you're not willing to
- 34:41invest extra time in that
- 34:42because how much better are
- 34:44you going to get in that one event?
- 34:47And is it enough that it's
- 34:50going to make a difference
- 34:51in the overall weekend?
- 34:52Is it worth the others maybe
- 34:54falling back a little bit?
- 34:57do you think that that's
- 34:58where Laura is now?
- 34:59Like it's just her whole,
- 35:01it's always going to be her whole,
- 35:02but to the amount of time
- 35:04it would take to get better at that would,
- 35:06would take away from her
- 35:07other things that she's
- 35:09somewhat dominant in.
- 35:11I don't think so.
- 35:11I think just like structurally,
- 35:13maybe she's got like longer
- 35:14arms that just make it harder to,
- 35:16to press.
- 35:17Like you have to like, she's,
- 35:21she's competing.
- 35:22It's a top girls in the
- 35:23world that are so good at
- 35:25that movement as well.
- 35:27Um, I,
- 35:29I thought she was going to be a
- 35:30little bit better on the flat surface.
- 35:32I did think like I was
- 35:34expecting a little bit more.
- 35:36Um,
- 35:36but then like everyone's just so good
- 35:39at them that even if she gets better,
- 35:42it's just so hard to be
- 35:43competitive when you're
- 35:44talking about the elites of the elite.
- 35:47Um,
- 35:49Yeah, I mean,
- 35:50it was a good thing for her
- 35:52that it's paired with a back squat,
- 35:53which slowed down some people.
- 35:56Like, I have long arms, so, like,
- 35:58I'm a slow handstand push-up person.
- 36:00Like, I'm short,
- 36:01but I actually probably
- 36:02have longer arms than most
- 36:04people on the field,
- 36:05which is why I can deadlift.
- 36:08So, like,
- 36:08I don't know if just structurally
- 36:10it's just something that's hard to fix.
- 36:12Like, any type of strict movement,
- 36:14it takes a lot of work to
- 36:16get better at any type of
- 36:17strict movement.
- 36:24I think the last thing I
- 36:24want to ask you about, Rogue,
- 36:27because we've talked about it a lot.
- 36:27You've been in the chat a
- 36:28little bit with us in the wrap-up shows.
- 36:33There's been this stink all
- 36:34week about what Laura said
- 36:37about the European crowd
- 36:39being better than the U.S.
- 36:41crowd.
- 36:43And I thought you made a great point.
- 36:44The baseball stadium is not
- 36:46conducive to like have a
- 36:48great loud crowd because it
- 36:50spreads out wide as you go
- 36:52down the baselines.
- 36:53So you're much further away
- 36:55from the field of play than
- 36:58you were in this nice small arena.
- 37:00And I said over and over
- 37:02again on the wrap-up shows,
- 37:03that's what CrossFit needs to look for.
- 37:05These smaller arenas that
- 37:07you can fill up and make
- 37:11more interesting as a viewer.
- 37:15Do you think that the crowd
- 37:17was that much different than the U.S.?
- 37:23I mean,
- 37:23I haven't seen many sold-out crowds
- 37:24in the U.S.
- 37:25besides the CrossFit Games,
- 37:26if I'm being honest.
- 37:28And at the CrossFit Games,
- 37:29you have people traveling from all over,
- 37:30but semifinals is...
- 37:33hasn't been as good as the European,
- 37:36as the Australian semifinals.
- 37:40But I don't think there's
- 37:40anything wrong with her comment.
- 37:42This is an athlete that is from Europe.
- 37:45Europe has not had any major
- 37:48international competition
- 37:50like this where they've
- 37:51been able to host.
- 37:53She's proud that they finally got here.
- 37:56She wants to show that like,
- 37:57this is a place that they
- 37:58can come to and that the
- 38:01European crowd is going to
- 38:02show up and it's not a
- 38:04waste of an investment.
- 38:05Right.
- 38:06So I think that like,
- 38:10I don't think anything was
- 38:11necessarily directed like
- 38:15negatively at like the USA crowd,
- 38:18but it's more like we have
- 38:20it here going on.
- 38:21We've had it here going on.
- 38:23You guys are finally getting to see it.
- 38:27And they've been waiting
- 38:28years for this to happen.
- 38:30What's that?
- 38:31Take her out of the equation.
- 38:32The broadcast repeatedly was
- 38:35talking about how it was
- 38:37the best crowd they'd seen.
- 38:38And us on the broadcast can't tell.
- 38:41Yeah.
- 38:42Right?
- 38:42We have no idea.
- 38:45It's just frustrating
- 38:46because I think back to
- 38:49semifinals in Pasadena,
- 38:50which was in an abandoned
- 38:52strip mall or a grocery
- 38:54store with pillars in the
- 38:55middle of the floor.
- 38:56You couldn't even see people.
- 39:00We've never in the U.S.
- 39:02put it in a place that fits
- 39:04what CrossFit is.
- 39:07We're throwing it in the
- 39:09square peg in the round hole.
- 39:11for a venue.
- 39:13The only thing close to it
- 39:14would be Knoxville,
- 39:16which is just a weird place to get to.
- 39:22I mean,
- 39:22I thought the crowd was great and I
- 39:24liked that they stuck
- 39:25around and they weren't
- 39:26just there for the cross
- 39:27that they were there for the strong man.
- 39:28They were there for the strong woman.
- 39:30Um,
- 39:32yeah, it was, it was a great,
- 39:34it was a great place.
- 39:36And, um,
- 39:37I wouldn't be surprised to see it
- 39:38go back there again, another year.
- 39:40The only thing is like, if you,
- 39:42if you stay at the same location,
- 39:43people that are like really
- 39:44made that trip or like, Oh,
- 39:46I made the trip.
- 39:47I'm I've seen it.
- 39:48I don't need to go back again,
- 39:49which is why it's almost
- 39:50like nice for it to go to other cities.
- 39:53Although the location was
- 39:55great because like there
- 39:55was two hotels that were within.
- 39:58Ten seconds walking of there.
- 40:00Um,
- 40:02So it made it easy to just
- 40:04go back and forth.
- 40:07I think they want to keep it
- 40:09at an English-speaking
- 40:12country in terms of just
- 40:13facilitating for the North
- 40:17American athletes.
- 40:18So I think something like
- 40:19Scotland or in the UK is
- 40:21what you'll see probably
- 40:25maybe in the next couple years.
- 40:28The actual venue was beautiful.
- 40:31Um, it did everything they needed to do,
- 40:34but yeah, I was just,
- 40:34I was just happy that
- 40:36Europe finally got a chance to, to host,
- 40:39um, to host an event.
- 40:41Cause they've been,
- 40:42they've been needing that.
- 40:43I would love to see it go to
- 40:44Australia at some point.
- 40:46Obviously that's a huge, huge, uh,
- 40:49flight for, um, many of the people,
- 40:52but I mean, that crowd,
- 40:53that crowd's always crazy.
- 40:56And eventually like South America,
- 40:58like when I went to compete in Brazil,
- 41:01the one year for sanctionals,
- 41:03it was crazy over there.
- 41:05So I don't want to sound like sour grapes.
- 41:07I just think that for the
- 41:09first time in a long time,
- 41:10a CrossFit competition was right sized.
- 41:13Like the venue was the right
- 41:14size for the competition.
- 41:17And I don't think we've done
- 41:18a very good job of that at
- 41:20all in this country.
- 41:24And it's because I think
- 41:25we've also had the games.
- 41:28So people often are like, oh,
- 41:29let me skip the semifinal
- 41:30so I can go to the games.
- 41:33You know,
- 41:33and we've had those major
- 41:35competitions forever.
- 41:36So people always have
- 41:37something else that they can go to.
- 41:40The options have just been
- 41:42way bigger in North America.
- 41:45So, yeah.
- 41:49Yeah.
- 41:49I mean,
- 41:50I heard John Woolley say one time
- 41:51that CrossFit should look
- 41:53at high school football stadiums,
- 41:56that that is the right size
- 41:57for a CrossFit competition.
- 41:59And I think that the CrossFit Games,
- 42:00had it not had the tragedy last year,
- 42:03the event in the football
- 42:04stadium was awesome.
- 42:07and and packed like I think
- 42:09that makes sense like that
- 42:11I think we're just um we're
- 42:13not right sizing the venue
- 42:16and and kudos to to rogue
- 42:18for doing that because I do
- 42:20think this was right sized
- 42:22and it had a cool effect
- 42:23because of it and it was
- 42:25awesome to watch and
- 42:26awesome to look at wasn't
- 42:28rogue at in columbus wasn't
- 42:31that like packed it was yeah it was
- 42:36but it was inside the factory.
- 42:37Like I don't, it,
- 42:41it was probably even small.
- 42:42It was,
- 42:43it was probably half the size
- 42:46indoors as this venue,
- 42:48but they also had an
- 42:49outdoor venue that was packed as well.
- 42:52Right.
- 42:55So, um,
- 42:57that was one of my favorite
- 42:58competitions to ever attend.
- 43:00Like there wasn't a bad seat
- 43:02in the house at either location either.
- 43:07Yeah, no, I mean, I love the competition.
- 43:11I think there's a couple
- 43:13workouts I would have liked
- 43:14to have seen the time cap
- 43:16one minute extra that second day.
- 43:22Obviously, the duel was...
- 43:26sad for, you know,
- 43:28just heartbreaking for those athletes.
- 43:31Because those top three on
- 43:32the female side were putting on a show.
- 43:35Like there was such a big
- 43:37gap between those three and
- 43:39the rest of the field.
- 43:41I still think Laura would
- 43:42have pulled away from Gabby
- 43:44with those events that were left,
- 43:45but it was exciting to see those battles.
- 43:48I think this was the best
- 43:49competition I've seen Laura look.
- 43:51Tia doesn't lose very often,
- 43:53and to lose four events in a row to Laura,
- 43:55it was like, whoa.
- 43:57I didn't even care about the overall score,
- 43:58just all the ones on, for one,
- 44:01all the ones on the other one.
- 44:03It was like the last event.
- 44:04We knew Tia was going to win the overall,
- 44:06but it was just like,
- 44:08who's going to win five,
- 44:10who's going to win five.
- 44:11And the other one's going to get four.
- 44:12Um,
- 44:13I thought Jeff looked phenomenal as you
- 44:15know,
- 44:16we didn't get to see him at the games.
- 44:18He looked great.
- 44:20Um,
- 44:20popular had a great competition on the
- 44:22men's side.
- 44:23There was a few people
- 44:24fighting for that third place.
- 44:26Brent obviously looked, um, great,
- 44:28happy for him to finish off
- 44:30his career that way.
- 44:32Um, happy for Ariel to get on that podium.
- 44:34There was a lot of great stories.
- 44:36Um,
- 44:38Yeah,
- 44:38mostly just that second day was a
- 44:40tough day.
- 44:43It rebounded back on the third day,
- 44:44but the two workouts with a
- 44:47lot of the time caps
- 44:48followed by the duel that
- 44:50had the two incidents,
- 44:53that one was a more difficult day.
- 44:56Do you have thoughts on
- 44:59rebounding and whether that
- 45:00should be allowed or not?
- 45:03I mean,
- 45:03I come from so many sports background.
- 45:06I bound all the time in training.
- 45:09If you watch any of my training videos,
- 45:11like I'm constantly doing it.
- 45:14Um,
- 45:17I like bounding.
- 45:18I think it's like Danielle
- 45:20is the most athletic one in that field.
- 45:22She would have been heads
- 45:23like way ahead of everyone
- 45:24had she bounded or not bounded.
- 45:26She's always been good at
- 45:28burpee box jump overs and
- 45:29get overs and stuff like that.
- 45:31And then it just made it look even faster,
- 45:35obviously, when she was bounding.
- 45:36I don't think you needed to
- 45:37bounce or to bound to win that event,
- 45:39though.
- 45:42It definitely helped to get
- 45:43a little bit of a lead,
- 45:44but you didn't need to
- 45:45bound to get a really fast score.
- 45:49I heard an interesting take
- 45:52on Around the Whiteboard,
- 45:55and it was Sam Briggs' coach.
- 45:59Why is his name escaping me right now?
- 46:06he was saying that there are
- 46:08that you should be you need
- 46:10to test plyometrics as part
- 46:12of fitness it's like we
- 46:13won't do sprinting we can't
- 46:15do sprints all of a sudden
- 46:16because people are going to
- 46:16rip their hammies well
- 46:17that's you know what speed
- 46:18is a part of fitness you
- 46:19got to be fast like that should be tested
- 46:22there are athletes that are
- 46:26springier and bouncier than others,
- 46:28right?
- 46:28And he goes,
- 46:30I don't think this would happen to Guy.
- 46:33He's just too springy and bendy.
- 46:36That's just who he is, right?
- 46:39But you look at Heinrich,
- 46:40and he is a stiffer athlete.
- 46:43And this was his opinion.
- 46:44This is not mine.
- 46:45He was saying that just looking at him,
- 46:47he is a stiffer athlete,
- 46:49and you can kind of tell.
- 46:54But anyway,
- 46:55it was just a really
- 46:56interesting conversation.
- 46:59I wonder if a lot of these
- 47:01athletes don't have
- 47:02sporting backgrounds anymore.
- 47:04Like a lot of them don't.
- 47:05They just specialize in CrossFit.
- 47:08And now that we haven't had
- 47:09bounding because it's all
- 47:11been stepped down,
- 47:11like I just wonder how much
- 47:13people are actually
- 47:14maintaining in their
- 47:15training at some point some bounding.
- 47:19Like in my opinion,
- 47:21we should be able to do five reps.
- 47:27I know it's from a very high surface,
- 47:29but I think that people
- 47:30still need to – I mean,
- 47:32if it's going to happen,
- 47:33it's going to happen.
- 47:34People could have torn just
- 47:36sprinting forward towards the sled.
- 47:41You've seen people – last year,
- 47:42I think it was one of the
- 47:43Niners or one of the
- 47:45football players was just
- 47:46running from off the field to the field,
- 47:48and boom, it popped.
- 47:50Yep.
- 47:50Like, it often happens in, like,
- 47:53a rebounding change of direction, which,
- 47:56you know, they had there.
- 47:58But they got to support
- 47:59their arms a little bit, like,
- 48:00to their bound, where it wasn't as much.
- 48:02Like,
- 48:02you're not jumping fifty-five inches
- 48:06fully down, rebounding back.
- 48:11I don't know.
- 48:11It's hard.
- 48:14It's hard to tell no bounding ever.
- 48:17There's so much bounding across it.
- 48:19Where does it stop?
- 48:21Or just in athleticism in general,
- 48:23people will be like, oh, well,
- 48:24you don't need to test
- 48:25bounding to test fitness.
- 48:26But it's still part of a race.
- 48:32I don't know.
- 48:35If people have that in their repertoire,
- 48:38why are you limiting them
- 48:39to being able to do that?
- 48:42I didn't bound when I tested it.
- 48:45but I was very fast going
- 48:47over and probably as
- 48:49competitive with any of those scores.
- 48:52But like, I'm fast on, on, on the overs,
- 48:55but like,
- 48:55it didn't even occur to me to bound.
- 48:57I could have,
- 48:59I didn't even think about it
- 49:00just cause I'm, I'm smaller,
- 49:01but I don't know.
- 49:03Like I just, I trained all the time.
- 49:06I don't even think about it.
- 49:08You're always going to have
- 49:09soft tissue injuries in sports.
- 49:11It's just going to happen.
- 49:13You, as much as you try to prevent it,
- 49:15it's always going to happen.
- 49:17And at some point the
- 49:18athlete has to make the decision.
- 49:20It does this work for me or not.
- 49:23And yeah.
- 49:25But like it really started
- 49:26with Daniel Brandon that was bounding,
- 49:28right?
- 49:28Like she's someone who is an
- 49:32athlete on the field.
- 49:33Like she has done a lot of sports.
- 49:35She's one of the rare
- 49:38athletes that we have in CrossFit.
- 49:40She is.
- 49:40Like there's not many pure
- 49:41athletes in CrossFit.
- 49:42She's one of them.
- 49:43So when you take a movement
- 49:45that's already good for her
- 49:47and then she bounds and
- 49:49looks and makes everyone
- 49:51look like turtles out there,
- 49:53people are going to be like,
- 49:54I got to do that, too.
- 49:55But even if they did do that,
- 49:56they're still not.
- 49:57They still weren't even
- 49:58close to Daniel Brandon.
- 50:00She was still so much faster
- 50:01because she's she's springy.
- 50:04So I can relate.
- 50:05She would lose.
- 50:06She would lose it on this on the sled.
- 50:08The comment I can relate to
- 50:09the most is when I played
- 50:10college basketball, I had a huge vertical,
- 50:12but in my old age, I'll be stepping down.
- 50:16That's Larry young.
- 50:18Yeah.
- 50:18I mean, I think,
- 50:19I don't think the masters
- 50:20need to like pass a certain point,
- 50:23but at the same, at the same time,
- 50:26don't tell me how to race.
- 50:32If you have it in you, like it's going to,
- 50:34I don't know if it's going to happen.
- 50:35It's going to happen.
- 50:38That is my opinion.
- 50:40It sucks.
- 50:43And I don't know if there
- 50:43was a previous injury to
- 50:45Gabby's calf that people talked about.
- 50:47I don't know whether that's true or not.
- 50:48It's horrible what happened.
- 50:53Obviously, with two happening, you're like,
- 50:54was it badly programmed?
- 50:56Or was it just... Two people
- 51:01tearing Achilles.
- 51:02It happens when it's going to happen.
- 51:05Yeah, it's just sad, but...
- 51:07And the other thing is, Carolyn,
- 51:09you know the risk-reward, right?
- 51:11If you're going to bound and that pops,
- 51:13you know it's eight months.
- 51:16Probably less than that, but yeah.
- 51:18Yeah, I'm just going by Chelsea Nicholas,
- 51:20who just went through the recovery.
- 51:22And yeah, you can come back in a year,
- 51:24but it's not right for eight months.
- 51:27Yeah.
- 51:30So, but anyway.
- 51:36But it could have happened
- 51:37even in the burpee overs.
- 51:39Even in the burpees,
- 51:40as they land and come back,
- 51:41it could have literally
- 51:43happened there with how
- 51:44fast they were going.
- 51:46You're coming down from a high... Again,
- 51:52I train...
- 51:55all the time,
- 51:56like my whole life weighted
- 51:58depth drops where you just, you know,
- 52:01you depth drop and then you
- 52:02explode from there,
- 52:03like from different heights.
- 52:05It's like,
- 52:06I don't know what type of
- 52:07background training people
- 52:08have to really like solidify more,
- 52:14I guess your Achilles, but if it's,
- 52:15but some of the best
- 52:16athletes can tear it too.
- 52:17Like it's just, it's meant to go.
- 52:19Sometimes it's meant to go.
- 52:21So I want to address this from CrossFat.
- 52:22I think losing players to
- 52:23injuries for a long term is still bad.
- 52:25Like, we may not get that Gabby again.
- 52:27I don't think that is the case.
- 52:30With the way medical...
- 52:33medical technology is today,
- 52:34recovering from an Achilles
- 52:36tendon should actually make
- 52:38you stronger afterwards.
- 52:41Because over time,
- 52:42your Achilles tendon stretches.
- 52:45This actually tightens it
- 52:46back up and makes it new.
- 52:48And once you're past eighteen months,
- 52:50it is as secure as a brand new Achilles.
- 52:54But even in the step down,
- 52:55like William Leahy, you know,
- 52:57the step down,
- 52:58he would step down and just kind of
- 53:00it's still type of,
- 53:01it's still a kind of
- 53:02bounding and he tore it
- 53:04there and people will say, Oh,
- 53:05well he was jumping from the rope.
- 53:07I mean,
- 53:07he didn't do it when he jumped from
- 53:08the rope.
- 53:09He did it with his little box movement,
- 53:12not from the rope,
- 53:13like stuff just happens.
- 53:16And he comes and he's a
- 53:17great athlete and he was
- 53:18great explosive power, um,
- 53:20basketball player.
- 53:21It's like, it just,
- 53:24so where does it stop I
- 53:25think I'm going to say it
- 53:26again um if you go to three
- 53:29two one md dot com uh that
- 53:32is sean rocket he is the uh
- 53:34medical person for the
- 53:35crossfit games he actually
- 53:37did an episode on how
- 53:39achilles ruptures happen um
- 53:43and he actually was in the
- 53:44chat with some of the stuff
- 53:45that happened at rogue and
- 53:47talked about it a lot of it
- 53:48is to do with your foot angle
- 53:51when you land.
- 53:52But he actually walks
- 53:53through it step by step.
- 53:55And if you want to know more about this,
- 53:56it's a great resource to go
- 53:58check out for this because
- 54:02he is an orthopedic surgeon
- 54:04and has probably repaired
- 54:06Achilles in the past.
- 54:07So with that.
- 54:12So there was that.
- 54:14And the other thing,
- 54:15my only other complaint with the dual,
- 54:17my bigger complaint with
- 54:18the dual was the wait time.
- 54:22And I love the format of the duel.
- 54:24I love the head-to-heads almost,
- 54:28like five people heats.
- 54:30I think that's awesome.
- 54:31But the wait times for a
- 54:36thirty-five second event
- 54:38are just getting to be too big.
- 54:40It was better this year than last year.
- 54:43But I think that if you're
- 54:45going to continue to do these,
- 54:46we've got to find a way to
- 54:48shrink that down.
- 54:49And I know there's appeals
- 54:50and I know there's all that stuff.
- 54:53But I think that is the
- 54:54thing that needs fixed the most.
- 54:56I thought they were faster
- 54:57this year between each, not,
- 55:00not between like the fit,
- 55:03but like going through the actual heats,
- 55:06if that makes sense, like of that round,
- 55:08that was much faster than,
- 55:10cause in the past year it was,
- 55:11it was not only slow at, at between the.
- 55:14But it was also slow between those.
- 55:17So those were good.
- 55:19Um, yeah, still a little bit long between.
- 55:23I get, they want recovery time.
- 55:25Um,
- 55:26and they don't want to smash the
- 55:27athletes as well.
- 55:28That's one thing is like, they,
- 55:30they don't want the
- 55:31athletes that are moving on
- 55:32to be at such a
- 55:33disadvantage for the weekend.
- 55:35To keep going.
- 55:37I think they could get rid
- 55:38of that round of fifteen.
- 55:39I think you can go from twenty to ten.
- 55:42At least twenty to ten.
- 55:44And then maybe if you want
- 55:44to go five to get rid of at
- 55:46least one round.
- 55:48Um, yeah.
- 55:50I think it would be, I mean,
- 55:51it wouldn't be called the dual,
- 55:52but I still think the
- 55:54twenty ten five would be just enough.
- 55:58Just long enough right there
- 56:00where you're not crushing them.
- 56:03Volume wise for making it further,
- 56:05it's still exciting.
- 56:06They get three times to come back through.
- 56:08I think that's the that would be,
- 56:12in my opinion, the winning recipe.
- 56:20that event was fun to do
- 56:21that was my favorite one to
- 56:22test yeah I could see that
- 56:28yeah I would like that as
- 56:30well um any other final
- 56:34thoughts from either of you
- 56:35from rogue that you thought
- 56:36about in the past week um
- 56:40and again like I just want
- 56:41to make it clear I'm not
- 56:42dogging on european um
- 56:45crowds I'm just I don't
- 56:47think we in the us have
- 56:48done a very good job
- 56:50either marketing or right sizing events.
- 56:59Yeah.
- 56:59I mean,
- 56:59I just want to say thank you to
- 57:02Katie and Bill for
- 57:02continuing to put this on for,
- 57:05for the athletes.
- 57:06And, um, I mean, even like,
- 57:10they're always up for feedback as well.
- 57:12Like they're,
- 57:12they're open to feedback on everything.
- 57:14They,
- 57:15The fact that they even
- 57:16changed the workout middle
- 57:17of the competition is great as well.
- 57:20You don't see that very often.
- 57:23but yeah, to provide the app,
- 57:24the athletes with hotels and, um,
- 57:29their flights covered where
- 57:30athletes can just go out
- 57:31there and compete and not
- 57:33just the CrossFitters, but the strong man,
- 57:35having the strong woman
- 57:36there was a huge addition.
- 57:39Um,
- 57:39I didn't know any of them really before.
- 57:41I think I knew one of the
- 57:42Canadian girls and
- 57:43obviously some of the men, but, um,
- 57:48Yeah, it was different to follow them.
- 57:51I think a field of ten,
- 57:51you got to see a lot.
- 57:54You got to see those
- 57:55athletes and kind of get to
- 57:56know them throughout the
- 57:57competition because it was a small field.
- 58:01So I thought that was cool
- 58:01that they got paid the exact same.
- 58:04And I think that's a great
- 58:06platform that Rogue
- 58:07provided them that weekend.
- 58:09So super happy for them and
- 58:12happy that the athletes got
- 58:13to have a great competition.
- 58:17Question from Justin Sun.
- 58:18Are you competing in twenty twenty five,
- 58:20Carolyn?
- 58:23Like the game season or just
- 58:24like in general?
- 58:25Yeah, yeah,
- 58:26I'm competing Masters and Indy.
- 58:29I get I get two routes.
- 58:36Lex says they take care of
- 58:38everything for the athletes.
- 58:40And the legends, too.
- 58:42The athletes are very relaxed,
- 58:45seem to be having a good time.
- 58:46I think, one,
- 58:48it was good for the sport to
- 58:50just have a clean slate.
- 58:53They also had a great video
- 58:56tribute to Lazar before the
- 59:00competition started.
- 59:00I don't know if you guys saw
- 59:01it on the stream.
- 59:03Yeah.
- 59:03Or not.
- 59:04Yeah.
- 59:06It was much better than the games.
- 59:07So, I mean,
- 59:08that was much better than the games.
- 59:09And I thought that that was
- 59:11a nice addition to start the weekend off,
- 59:15you know, giving,
- 59:18giving space for people to, you know,
- 59:21rethink about what happened and yeah,
- 59:25for Lazar.
- 59:26And Justin came back in game season.
- 59:30Whatever that looks like.
- 59:32We should know soon.
- 59:36Will we?
- 59:42Who knows?
- 59:42The PFAA this week held
- 59:44board elections for their athlete board.
- 59:47The people that were up for
- 59:48either a yes or no vote
- 59:50were Christina Leviticus.
- 59:55Danielle Brandon, Jake Douglas,
- 59:57Yella Hosta, Patrick Vellner,
- 59:59and Victoria Campos.
- 1:00:02And I think they have until
- 1:00:04the end of this week, maybe,
- 1:00:06or sometime midweek this
- 1:00:07week to get your votes in.
- 1:00:13And they've been doing a
- 1:00:15pretty good job of putting
- 1:00:17out material of how their voting works.
- 1:00:22They put out an Instagram post.
- 1:00:24I'll share it real quick, just showing.
- 1:00:31This is their.
- 1:00:34How their board gets elected.
- 1:00:37There's eligible voting members.
- 1:00:39Eligible voting members are invited.
- 1:00:41Then those voting members
- 1:00:42accept the invitation.
- 1:00:44And then they elect the board of directors,
- 1:00:47which is the athlete board.
- 1:00:48And those are the candidates
- 1:00:50that I just listed off.
- 1:00:53The athlete board make the
- 1:00:54decisions to advance the
- 1:00:55PFA's mission and goals.
- 1:00:58And then the athlete board
- 1:00:59selects an executive
- 1:01:00committee to run the
- 1:01:01day-to-day operations.
- 1:01:04And that executive committee
- 1:01:05executes and facilitates
- 1:01:06communication to the voting members.
- 1:01:10So they're doing a lot of
- 1:01:11things like this to kind of
- 1:01:13explain their makeup,
- 1:01:16which I think is a good
- 1:01:17first step in helping us
- 1:01:23understand how they
- 1:01:27represent the athletes.
- 1:01:36Yeah,
- 1:01:37I've said that for a couple weeks now.
- 1:01:40I don't like that they don't include teams,
- 1:01:43masters,
- 1:01:45and semifinal athletes who are
- 1:01:47also affected by all of this stuff.
- 1:01:51But I was told in the chat a
- 1:01:54couple weeks ago that those
- 1:01:56are in the future plans,
- 1:01:59but they wanted to start small,
- 1:02:02get their feet wet, and then expand.
- 1:02:05so hopefully that is true
- 1:02:08and we will see that in the
- 1:02:10future um lex says there
- 1:02:16should be at least one or
- 1:02:17two for masters and team I
- 1:02:19do not disagree with you
- 1:02:24because they're at the same
- 1:02:25competitions sometimes uh
- 1:02:28and their safety concerns
- 1:02:30and competitive balance
- 1:02:32issues are the exact same
- 1:02:34as the elite athletes
- 1:02:36And there's, I would,
- 1:02:37I would argue that there's
- 1:02:38sometimes even more safety
- 1:02:40concerns at the master's
- 1:02:41division than there would
- 1:02:43be at the elite individual,
- 1:02:48especially at like the games.
- 1:02:50Like some of,
- 1:02:50some of the programming I've
- 1:02:51seen in the past for
- 1:02:54master's division inside their gym,
- 1:02:56where they don't have
- 1:02:57access to certain mats when
- 1:02:58they're falling from the rope,
- 1:03:00doing leg lifts at certain age.
- 1:03:02I'm like, Hmm.
- 1:03:03Or certain movements.
- 1:03:04Like,
- 1:03:05It would be nice for them to
- 1:03:06be represented, um, and you know,
- 1:03:14start thinking about additions for,
- 1:03:18for those divisions and
- 1:03:20maybe what the standards should be.
- 1:03:21And what about synchro rope
- 1:03:24climbs or worm work or that
- 1:03:27are all add dangers to things?
- 1:03:38Vice says,
- 1:03:39from someone who helped form a
- 1:03:41union at my job,
- 1:03:42it makes sense to start
- 1:03:43small and get on your feet
- 1:03:44before you include all
- 1:03:45groups and positions.
- 1:03:47That's what worked in my
- 1:03:48experience anyway.
- 1:03:51At this point,
- 1:03:51I'm giving them the benefit of the doubt,
- 1:03:53and hopefully we'll see
- 1:03:54expansion in the future.
- 1:04:00And she said we expanded to
- 1:04:01include more positions each
- 1:04:02year as we got more experience.
- 1:04:07So, okay, cool.
- 1:04:11Um,
- 1:04:13Emma Lawson announced that she is back
- 1:04:15to training CrossFit.
- 1:04:17Uh,
- 1:04:18she did that on Tik TOK and me as a
- 1:04:21fifty four year old man, um,
- 1:04:24had to do some digging to find that,
- 1:04:27but I did.
- 1:04:28Um,
- 1:04:30So I actually I do have a
- 1:04:31tick tock account where I
- 1:04:33put stuff up but here she
- 1:04:34is I'm going to go ahead
- 1:04:35and play her announcement
- 1:04:37she actually has like three
- 1:04:38or four more videos it
- 1:04:40looks like she's kind of
- 1:04:42logging this every day on tick tock.
- 1:04:45It's a big day.
- 1:04:46I'm going back to the CrossFit gym today.
- 1:04:49It's been about three months
- 1:04:52since I've done CrossFit.
- 1:04:53I just really needed to take
- 1:04:55a physical break,
- 1:04:56mostly a mental break from
- 1:04:59training that way.
- 1:05:00I'm feeling like I'm ready to go.
- 1:05:03Really nervous.
- 1:05:04I feel like it was really
- 1:05:05necessary for me to take that time off.
- 1:05:07You probably saw because I
- 1:05:08was posting some.
- 1:05:09I did like a lot of Pilates.
- 1:05:11I was running a lot more.
- 1:05:12I was doing some biking and
- 1:05:15just kind of like whatever I felt like.
- 1:05:16I was doing some other types
- 1:05:18of work like classes.
- 1:05:19And I feel like that was
- 1:05:20just a really good reset for me.
- 1:05:23I'm excited to try and get back.
- 1:05:26Today I'm doing more of like slow work.
- 1:05:28I'm doing my slaps, bar my slaps,
- 1:05:30doing my fingers crossed.
- 1:05:32It's been a hot minute so
- 1:05:34we'll see how it goes.
- 1:05:35I think it's really
- 1:05:37necessary when you're
- 1:05:38getting to a point of it's
- 1:05:40not fun anymore or you're
- 1:05:42just really struggling
- 1:05:43through it and you're not
- 1:05:44enjoying it anymore and
- 1:05:46maybe you're noticing
- 1:05:47you're doing it for the
- 1:05:48wrong reasons it's really
- 1:05:49important to recognize that
- 1:05:51and it took me a long time
- 1:05:52to be able to actually
- 1:05:53recognize that but
- 1:05:55recognizing it is the start
- 1:05:56and then kind of doing
- 1:05:57something about that so for
- 1:05:59me that was taking a little
- 1:06:00bit of a step back so that
- 1:06:02I can try and find the joy
- 1:06:05for it again because I
- 1:06:06really do love doing
- 1:06:07crossfit I love competing I
- 1:06:08love pushing myself in that
- 1:06:09way and just the variety of
- 1:06:11movements that we get to do
- 1:06:14So that is about half of it.
- 1:06:16She goes on and there's even
- 1:06:18some parts after her
- 1:06:19workout where she missed some muscle ups.
- 1:06:22She says that it's a process.
- 1:06:25But as you can see,
- 1:06:26there's like four more videos.
- 1:06:30And these three are all
- 1:06:31about her training.
- 1:06:34So go check her out on TikTok.
- 1:06:37It looks like she's going to
- 1:06:38daily blog this thing,
- 1:06:40her comeback into it.
- 1:06:42And hopefully she does find
- 1:06:43the joy because she is so uber talented.
- 1:06:46Yeah, I mean, she started CrossFit,
- 1:06:48I think, when she was, like,
- 1:06:50seven or something years old.
- 1:06:52And I think she's done
- 1:06:53CrossFit longer than I have,
- 1:06:55which is crazy.
- 1:06:57So I think it's good that she finally,
- 1:07:00you know,
- 1:07:01recognized that she was probably
- 1:07:03burnt out, didn't love it as much anymore,
- 1:07:06and took this off-season for herself.
- 1:07:10She did a high rock.
- 1:07:11She did, I think,
- 1:07:11a half marathon with Jack.
- 1:07:16just exploring other things
- 1:07:17before getting back into
- 1:07:18more structured CrossFit.
- 1:07:20And hopefully, yep.
- 1:07:23And hopefully she, you know,
- 1:07:25doing the Jamie training
- 1:07:27gets back to loving it.
- 1:07:28And if she doesn't,
- 1:07:29then she knows that there's
- 1:07:30other outlets out there and
- 1:07:33ways to stay fit.
- 1:07:34Like she's been doing the
- 1:07:34Pilates and stuff like that.
- 1:07:36And you don't have to do CrossFit to,
- 1:07:39you know,
- 1:07:41to compete and stuff like that too.
- 1:07:42Yeah.
- 1:07:44Yeah, you know,
- 1:07:46in the last few years we've lost Mal,
- 1:07:48Emma, and Emma.
- 1:07:50Emma still has not missed a game season,
- 1:07:52so I shouldn't even put her in there.
- 1:07:54But Emma Carey, Mal, O'Brien,
- 1:07:58and Haley for a minute, but she's back.
- 1:08:00So hopefully they can find the joy again.
- 1:08:02It looks like Emma Carey is as well.
- 1:08:05We haven't heard from her, but, yeah,
- 1:08:08I think this is –
- 1:08:10I think kids should be doing
- 1:08:12this stuff anyway.
- 1:08:14And I think she may have
- 1:08:15missed out on it by
- 1:08:16starting CrossFit so young
- 1:08:18and becoming so good so fast.
- 1:08:22So another thing that
- 1:08:24happened this weekend is
- 1:08:25the Belgrade Games.
- 1:08:26So I'm going to go ahead and
- 1:08:27pull up their Instagram as
- 1:08:29they announce the top three
- 1:08:31in their divisions.
- 1:08:33And this was Luka Jukic's
- 1:08:36first time back in
- 1:08:38competition since the games.
- 1:08:41So on the men's side,
- 1:08:43the winner was Moritz Fiebig.
- 1:08:45Bronislaw Olinkowicz was second.
- 1:08:47And Luka ended up coming in third.
- 1:08:50So congratulations to those men.
- 1:08:54I tuned in to Be Friendly's
- 1:08:55live stream a little bit on IG.
- 1:08:58Man, they've got the high def down.
- 1:09:01It was really clear this weekend.
- 1:09:05It's still tough trying to
- 1:09:06figure out who's who with
- 1:09:08like a single cam kind of thing, but...
- 1:09:12I applaud them for doing
- 1:09:15this and letting us have
- 1:09:17the opportunity to watch more CrossFit.
- 1:09:20At some points,
- 1:09:21they had like eight hundred
- 1:09:22people live on their stream.
- 1:09:25She did a great job and they
- 1:09:28would put the workouts at
- 1:09:29the bottom for people to see,
- 1:09:31which is really important.
- 1:09:32They even had some score,
- 1:09:35some scores go up at some
- 1:09:36point in the one workout today.
- 1:09:39that was like max reps in
- 1:09:40the remaining time and stuff.
- 1:09:42So I thought they did a great job
- 1:09:44And shows that you can do
- 1:09:46things at smaller scale
- 1:09:50competitions and still get
- 1:09:52people involved into
- 1:09:54watching and being fans.
- 1:09:56The reality is CrossFit is
- 1:09:58still a grassroots thing, right?
- 1:10:02And the stream can be grassroots.
- 1:10:04We got spoiled with high-end
- 1:10:08production of some of the
- 1:10:09big events because the
- 1:10:11owner of CrossFit wanted to
- 1:10:12do that back in the day.
- 1:10:14We need to do more of this,
- 1:10:19and Brian's doing a great job.
- 1:10:20Did you watch the finale and
- 1:10:26their Lazar tribute and
- 1:10:30even for the podium?
- 1:10:33I watched a little bit of
- 1:10:33the females I did not watch
- 1:10:36because it was right during
- 1:10:37the Bears game.
- 1:10:38Yeah,
- 1:10:39Luca was emotional on the rower
- 1:10:40before starting.
- 1:10:43They had an announcement for Lazar.
- 1:10:46They put the chest piece up in lane five,
- 1:10:51gave him a big shout out there,
- 1:10:52and then they were beginning the workout.
- 1:10:54And then during the closing ceremony,
- 1:10:57they had Lazar at the
- 1:10:59forefront of this
- 1:11:00competition the entire weekend.
- 1:11:03It was a competition, too.
- 1:11:05And the last event was
- 1:11:07called the Lazar Workout.
- 1:11:08Yeah.
- 1:11:09Yeah, so.
- 1:11:12And on the women's side,
- 1:11:14we had Mathilde Garnes,
- 1:11:16one that Alisa Fuliano took second,
- 1:11:20and Jacqueline Dahlstrom took third.
- 1:11:24All names we know from the
- 1:11:25CrossFit space as well, both sides.
- 1:11:30So, yeah, great that they all did well.
- 1:11:34And the first place winner
- 1:11:35got seven thousand euros.
- 1:11:37I don't know what that means,
- 1:11:38but kudos to them.
- 1:11:44There's a lot of good people that come.
- 1:11:47Luca was wearing Lazar's
- 1:11:48jersey from Dubai for Jackie Pro.
- 1:11:53Yeah,
- 1:11:53I probably would have been bawling in
- 1:11:55my desk chair watching that.
- 1:11:58But kudos to them.
- 1:12:00It looked like a great competition.
- 1:12:02The floor was awesome.
- 1:12:03And again,
- 1:12:05kudos to BeFriendly and their coverage.
- 1:12:08It was awesome.
- 1:12:15So there's that.
- 1:12:17And then High Rocks.
- 1:12:21There's all these people doing high rocks.
- 1:12:22Carolyn, you did one a few weeks ago.
- 1:12:25Lucy McGonigal and her sister did it.
- 1:12:27Jay Crouch and Maddie Sturt did one.
- 1:12:30Tia did one with James Newberry.
- 1:12:32Paige Powers is doing one
- 1:12:34while she's pregnant.
- 1:12:37Do you think the high rocks
- 1:12:38is just like a change of
- 1:12:39pace for these athletes,
- 1:12:41or do you think they're dabbling?
- 1:12:44I just think it's a less pressured,
- 1:12:46fun competition.
- 1:12:47A lot of these high-level athletes,
- 1:12:49you can't go to local comps
- 1:12:51and just compete a lot of
- 1:12:53times because you look like
- 1:12:54an asshole just going to
- 1:12:56beat up on all the locals.
- 1:12:59So I feel like this is a
- 1:13:00chance to just do something
- 1:13:02different with less pressure,
- 1:13:04and it's just fun.
- 1:13:05It's a good workout.
- 1:13:07Um,
- 1:13:08I don't think any of like most of these
- 1:13:10athletes that are dabbling
- 1:13:11there are thinking that
- 1:13:12they're going to be world champion in it.
- 1:13:15It's like, it's such a,
- 1:13:16a running specialization sport, um,
- 1:13:20while also needing to be fit on, on,
- 1:13:22on the stations.
- 1:13:23But I just think we have the
- 1:13:25background that it suits well,
- 1:13:26and it's just part of our training and.
- 1:13:29I think,
- 1:13:30I just think people are just
- 1:13:31dabbling for fun and it's like,
- 1:13:34I just did it for fun with
- 1:13:35my friend was not thinking
- 1:13:37we were going for any type
- 1:13:38of work record.
- 1:13:41Jamie, you've actually considered it,
- 1:13:42right?
- 1:13:43Because there's been times
- 1:13:45where CrossFit's getting so
- 1:13:46heavy that you feel like
- 1:13:48they're trying to push your
- 1:13:50type of athlete to the side.
- 1:13:52And you've confided in me
- 1:13:54that high rocks actually
- 1:13:56look like an alternative to that.
- 1:13:57Mm-hmm.
- 1:13:59Have you done one yet?
- 1:14:01I have not done one.
- 1:14:01I wanted to do Chicago this,
- 1:14:05that was this weekend.
- 1:14:07It's just, it's always,
- 1:14:09it fills up and I don't
- 1:14:10sign up soon enough.
- 1:14:11So I don't know.
- 1:14:13I don't even know when the
- 1:14:13next one that's close
- 1:14:14enough for me to do would be.
- 1:14:18I'm laughing at this comment
- 1:14:20that Lex wrote because I
- 1:14:24love Barbell Spin.
- 1:14:24He's always posting stuff.
- 1:14:26But I remember he posted my
- 1:14:29score with my friend who
- 1:14:30doesn't even train at all.
- 1:14:31And I was like, man,
- 1:14:33people don't need to know
- 1:14:33that I'm doing this competition.
- 1:14:35This is not even an important competition.
- 1:14:39He's looking up every single
- 1:14:41person that's doing it.
- 1:14:43It's like, okay,
- 1:14:44people are just doing it for fun too.
- 1:14:46Beck says, I don't know, Lex.
- 1:14:47I bought a spectator ticket
- 1:14:48for Tia's upcoming High
- 1:14:50Rocks event after he posted about it.
- 1:14:53So he sold a ticket.
- 1:14:56At least one.
- 1:14:58Justin Way says Vegas in February.
- 1:15:02Road trip.
- 1:15:04Yeah, that's not not a road trip for me.
- 1:15:07But Vegas usually isn't
- 1:15:08super expensive flight wise.
- 1:15:10I know.
- 1:15:10Yeah,
- 1:15:11that's what that's actually what I
- 1:15:13was thinking is cheap flights to Vegas.
- 1:15:15Yeah.
- 1:15:16we get we can get some
- 1:15:17really cheap ones here in
- 1:15:18columbus uh I'm gonna
- 1:15:21finish up with uh and and
- 1:15:24really the story is kind of
- 1:15:25hidden here but ariel lowen
- 1:15:27ended up killing taylor
- 1:15:28yesterday morning and
- 1:15:30winning fifteen hundred
- 1:15:30dollars in a workout that
- 1:15:32was uh toes fifteen toes to
- 1:15:35bar and nine snatches I
- 1:15:38actually thought about
- 1:15:38jamie when this first
- 1:15:39popped up I was so mad that
- 1:15:41we were leaving for what
- 1:15:43was I what was how many rounds of that
- 1:15:46It was six-minute AMRAP.
- 1:15:48I would like that.
- 1:15:50What was the weight?
- 1:15:51Eighty.
- 1:15:52I'd like that.
- 1:15:55So, Taylor got six plus one.
- 1:15:58Ariel got six plus six.
- 1:16:00Like an EMOM.
- 1:16:01Yeah.
- 1:16:02So, and Ariel, like,
- 1:16:05she didn't break until round five,
- 1:16:07I think, on the total bar.
- 1:16:08And her transitions were
- 1:16:11spectacular from the total
- 1:16:12bar to the snatch.
- 1:16:14Yeah.
- 1:16:15But there was a woman that
- 1:16:16called in from England, M.D.
- 1:16:20Gooch, who I actually met at the Masters.
- 1:16:24And she set such a blistering pace,
- 1:16:28but her clock shut off at
- 1:16:30the two thirty mark and she got confused.
- 1:16:34And because she got confused,
- 1:16:36then the guy started
- 1:16:37yelling things at her and
- 1:16:38made her even more confused.
- 1:16:41Yeah,
- 1:16:41she would have beat both of them by a
- 1:16:43mile.
- 1:16:45So she does always the
- 1:16:47online competition that I was doing,
- 1:16:48the fitness comps.
- 1:16:51And well, I mean,
- 1:16:53they went bankrupt and they
- 1:16:54haven't paid us for the last comp.
- 1:16:56That's another thing.
- 1:16:57And they never email this,
- 1:16:58but MD Gooch always does those.
- 1:17:01She has great toaster bars.
- 1:17:03That's one thing I remember from her.
- 1:17:05I don't know about the barbell cycling,
- 1:17:07but her toaster bars are great.
- 1:17:10There was this one workout.
- 1:17:11She smashed everyone on the toaster bars.
- 1:17:15And it was like a toaster
- 1:17:17bar and rowing workout.
- 1:17:18But her like she was doing
- 1:17:20fifty something on broken toaster bars.
- 1:17:23So her toaster bar looked awesome.
- 1:17:25But she is the only one that
- 1:17:26didn't go singles on the snatch.
- 1:17:30Ariel singles from the start,
- 1:17:33from the start, just super fast,
- 1:17:36like follow the bar down right back up.
- 1:17:39But MD Gooch went unbroken
- 1:17:42the first three or four rounds.
- 1:17:45How far behind was she?
- 1:17:47She was not behind.
- 1:17:48She was way ahead.
- 1:17:50And Taylor's over here.
- 1:17:50Like she didn't even do
- 1:17:52fifteen total bar and like
- 1:17:53having her do extra because
- 1:17:55he like isn't paying attention.
- 1:17:56Oh, yeah.
- 1:17:58Yeah.
- 1:17:59At the end,
- 1:18:00they made her do extra reps in
- 1:18:01the middle and then went
- 1:18:02back and watched the
- 1:18:03recording and found out
- 1:18:04they had screwed her over.
- 1:18:06But she only missed out by
- 1:18:08like two reps at the end.
- 1:18:10And they made her do like a
- 1:18:11bunch of extra in the middle.
- 1:18:12And this one was for fifteen hundred?
- 1:18:16What was that?
- 1:18:17This was fifteen hundred.
- 1:18:18She would have had it.
- 1:18:20Yeah, she would have had it.
- 1:18:21She's forty years old.
- 1:18:23Yeah, she's a master.
- 1:18:25She's very similar to me in
- 1:18:28like gymnastic stuff.
- 1:18:29She would have been Ariel too?
- 1:18:32Oh, yeah.
- 1:18:32Yeah.
- 1:18:34Crazy.
- 1:18:35Yeah.
- 1:18:35I was, I was,
- 1:18:36I remember being very
- 1:18:37impressed by her toast of ours.
- 1:18:38The one time I was like, damn, I was like,
- 1:18:40I got beat by, um, by this, like,
- 1:18:44I didn't really know her.
- 1:18:44I was like this master.
- 1:18:45It's like in the, like,
- 1:18:47I think she was in the
- 1:18:47thirty five to thirty nine this year,
- 1:18:49but she was like at the end of that one.
- 1:18:51Like she was like thirty eight,
- 1:18:52thirty nine.
- 1:18:53I was like, damn,
- 1:18:55I got smoked in this workout.
- 1:18:58But my question to you,
- 1:18:59I don't feel as bad now.
- 1:19:00If she was about to smoke Ariel,
- 1:19:01we're good.
- 1:19:02We're good.
- 1:19:06What I want to kind of talk
- 1:19:07about is having a
- 1:19:10forty-year-old Masters
- 1:19:11athlete come in and do that
- 1:19:13on a public-facing show
- 1:19:15with a thousand people watching.
- 1:19:19How do the Masters athletes
- 1:19:21capitalize on that?
- 1:19:23Because everybody's like,
- 1:19:24Masters athletes are like second fiddle,
- 1:19:29like double A or whatever.
- 1:19:31And sometimes they're not.
- 1:19:34At the end of the documentary,
- 1:19:38and this is a spoiler for tomorrow,
- 1:19:40so if you don't want to know,
- 1:19:41close yours.
- 1:19:42Mark Hutchinson looks in the
- 1:19:43camera and goes,
- 1:19:44let me ask you this question.
- 1:19:46If you went head to head, who is fitter?
- 1:19:49The game's fittest on earth
- 1:19:51or the Masters' thirty-five
- 1:19:53to thirty-nine fittest on earth?
- 1:19:57He said,
- 1:19:57I think it's a pretty damn close call.
- 1:20:02And it's only because it's Will Morad.
- 1:20:05And Will has competed at that level.
- 1:20:07And Will was on fire that
- 1:20:08weekend at Masters.
- 1:20:10And Will's beaten James
- 1:20:11probably many times in the past.
- 1:20:13Yeah.
- 1:20:15Yeah.
- 1:20:15I think this year,
- 1:20:16but not normally in other years.
- 1:20:20Like, I don't think who won it last year.
- 1:20:23Sam Dancer.
- 1:20:26I don't think he would be on the top.
- 1:20:31He's a great athlete.
- 1:20:31I don't think he would be in
- 1:20:33the top ten at the Games.
- 1:20:38Sam can't ever make it
- 1:20:39through the games for us to know.
- 1:20:40Yeah, healthy.
- 1:20:42That's the problem.
- 1:20:45Sam is a super fit dude and
- 1:20:46super strong dude,
- 1:20:48but he can't ever make it
- 1:20:49through a four-day
- 1:20:50competition for us to know
- 1:20:53how fit he actually is.
- 1:20:57But it was just an interesting question,
- 1:20:58especially this year, right?
- 1:21:00You have a new guy, James, who people...
- 1:21:03don't think truly is the fittest on earth.
- 1:21:05You have will, who was like on fire at the,
- 1:21:08at the masters games.
- 1:21:11Um, it was just an interesting,
- 1:21:13interesting thought.
- 1:21:14And,
- 1:21:14and we'll put up times that would be
- 1:21:16competitive with the elite
- 1:21:18athletes of the world.
- 1:21:19Well,
- 1:21:19we'll should be at the individual
- 1:21:21games typically.
- 1:21:22Like he got injured this
- 1:21:24year and wasn't able to
- 1:21:26finish out his season.
- 1:21:28Really like the way he wanted.
- 1:21:32Yeah.
- 1:21:34But with the way M.D.
- 1:21:35Gooch competed... That would
- 1:21:38have been cool if she beat
- 1:21:40both of them and whooped them.
- 1:21:42Well, the thing is,
- 1:21:44I don't know that... She
- 1:21:45was on way before Ariel.
- 1:21:47So if she would have won and
- 1:21:49defeated Taylor,
- 1:21:50I don't know that they
- 1:21:51would have continued and
- 1:21:52had more people try.
- 1:21:53So they always have in the past.
- 1:21:56Yeah,
- 1:21:56I mean... If one person can beat the
- 1:21:57time even more, then they get to win it.
- 1:22:02And maybe at that point,
- 1:22:03Ariel would have gone a
- 1:22:04little faster because she
- 1:22:05would have known a
- 1:22:06different number to beat.
- 1:22:07So we don't know.
- 1:22:09Yeah.
- 1:22:11But when you watch Em before
- 1:22:12she gets confused, like it was flawless.
- 1:22:19And to only be a couple reps
- 1:22:21behind with those mishaps,
- 1:22:23it's pretty good.
- 1:22:26So I dunno, it,
- 1:22:27it was just a fun
- 1:22:28conversation I thought to
- 1:22:29have because of how well
- 1:22:31she did and kudos,
- 1:22:32like applause to MD Gooch to,
- 1:22:35to do what she did.
- 1:22:36Kudos to Ariel too, for beating Taylor,
- 1:22:39fifteen hundred dollar paychecks.
- 1:22:40Pretty nice.
- 1:22:43Yup.
- 1:22:44So yeah, it was, uh,
- 1:22:47and she just had a good one
- 1:22:48from rogue too.
- 1:22:50Yeah.
- 1:22:52looked up those payouts it's
- 1:22:54that's not too shabby and
- 1:22:56to have your trip paid for
- 1:22:57yeah and the payout for
- 1:23:00third place I don't
- 1:23:01remember if rogue gives
- 1:23:02money for event wins two or
- 1:23:04like top threes I don't
- 1:23:08remember or just event wins
- 1:23:12uh clooney's we care about
- 1:23:14masters athletes
- 1:23:22Um, so anyway,
- 1:23:24I just thought that was interesting.
- 1:23:26Um, that's all we have for tonight.
- 1:23:28I do want to set up
- 1:23:29something for next week,
- 1:23:30but first make sure you
- 1:23:31like subscribe to the channel,
- 1:23:32hit that notifier.
- 1:23:33So, you know, when stuff comes out,
- 1:23:35don't forget all access
- 1:23:36comes out tomorrow at noon.
- 1:23:39And, um,
- 1:23:42and it will be fifty five minutes long.
- 1:23:43It's an awesome episode.
- 1:23:45I can't wait for you guys to see that.
- 1:23:47But next week we're going to
- 1:23:49play a game called Hall of Famer or not.
- 1:23:53And it's set up as to get in
- 1:23:55the Hall of Fame, you have to be special,
- 1:23:57right?
- 1:23:58It's not just that you're
- 1:23:59really good at something.
- 1:24:01You have to be the best of
- 1:24:02the best of the best, right?
- 1:24:06It's only like the top one
- 1:24:07or two percent in a league
- 1:24:09make it to the Hall of Fame.
- 1:24:11So what I'm going to do next week is
- 1:24:14is I'm going to put people's
- 1:24:15picture on a document,
- 1:24:16and I'm going to scroll up through it,
- 1:24:18and you guys are going to see them,
- 1:24:19and I want you to tell me
- 1:24:21yes or no Hall of Famer.
- 1:24:22And next week will be men,
- 1:24:24and the following week will be women.
- 1:24:27Okay.
- 1:24:28Retired athletes.
- 1:24:32The sport's so young,
- 1:24:33it'll probably be a mix.
- 1:24:34Yes.
- 1:24:37As they sit today, like for an example,
- 1:24:40Tia is still competing,
- 1:24:42but that is a no-brainer
- 1:24:44that she is going to be a Hall of Famer.
- 1:24:45Right.
- 1:24:46Right.
- 1:24:47Are you looking for a certain amount?
- 1:24:49Like, is it we have to name three?
- 1:24:51Do we have to name five?
- 1:24:53Or we just name who is?
- 1:24:56In my head right now, it's just who is.
- 1:24:57But I actually was thinking about,
- 1:24:59should I put a limit on you
- 1:25:01guys so that you don't
- 1:25:03allow too many people in the door?
- 1:25:05Yeah.
- 1:25:08I think we need a limit.
- 1:25:09I think we need a limit too.
- 1:25:13So, uh, so yeah,
- 1:25:14I think that'll be a fun game.
- 1:25:15We play next week.
- 1:25:19Um, and Kenneth is saying first ballot.
- 1:25:21I think in your arguments, you can say,
- 1:25:24I think they are a first ballot or, Hey,
- 1:25:27they should probably let
- 1:25:28some other people in first
- 1:25:30and they'd be a second or third ballot.
- 1:25:32Um,
- 1:25:34your argument but I for for
- 1:25:37this sake it's going to be
- 1:25:39they're all up for the hall
- 1:25:40of fame they're all on
- 1:25:42their first ballot should
- 1:25:44they be in or not and it'll
- 1:25:48be men next week and then
- 1:25:50we'll do women the
- 1:25:50following week and as lynn
- 1:25:52said ooh so we're gonna get
- 1:25:55to argue that's the point
- 1:25:59And if there's anybody that
- 1:26:00you think should be under
- 1:26:01consideration in the men's field,
- 1:26:03please put that in the comments.
- 1:26:05And I will consider that to
- 1:26:07put together the eligibility list.
- 1:26:10And then I will, John,
- 1:26:14we're talking about a limit.
- 1:26:16We'll come up with a limit.
- 1:26:17I think five, no more than five.
- 1:26:23I say three or five.
- 1:26:24Well,
- 1:26:25it depends on how many choices you have.
- 1:26:28Because I know, like,
- 1:26:30usually in a Hall of Fame,
- 1:26:31it's five per year,
- 1:26:33but the initial class gets
- 1:26:35more because you're making
- 1:26:36up for some time.
- 1:26:39Five.
- 1:26:40This is my game.
- 1:26:42My game.
- 1:26:43We'll see.
- 1:26:45I'll come up with something good.
- 1:26:51Kenneth asks,
- 1:26:52should there be a limit to
- 1:26:53Canadian athletes?
- 1:26:55Lynn says, nope, no limit on Canada.
- 1:27:05John, this is my game.
- 1:27:08You guys have your own show.
- 1:27:12How did Grid go?
- 1:27:14Was that this weekend that John competed?
- 1:27:18It was today.
- 1:27:20There was a finale or something, right?
- 1:27:22Did you compete, John?
- 1:27:23How'd you do?
- 1:27:26Yeah,
- 1:27:26I did see he went and put out a...
- 1:27:28The championships were today.
- 1:27:30Okay.
- 1:27:31But those teams already made.
- 1:27:32I don't think John's on the
- 1:27:33teams from right now.
- 1:27:34I think that for the next,
- 1:27:35the next season.
- 1:27:36Yeah.
- 1:27:37Okay.
- 1:27:37All right.
- 1:27:39Then I'll just bring it in a
- 1:27:40ringer for the finale.
- 1:27:42What is this?
- 1:27:43I don't know.
- 1:27:44John,
- 1:27:44make sure you have sex and pan check
- 1:27:46on your hall of fame list.
- 1:27:47That's all.
- 1:27:47Uh,
- 1:27:54they covered the championship on a spin
- 1:27:55cast.
- 1:27:56All right.
- 1:27:56I'll go watch.
- 1:27:59That's usually when I'm
- 1:28:00getting ready for bed, I put them on.
- 1:28:03So that's what I'll do tonight.
- 1:28:06So with that,
- 1:28:06get ready for your debates on
- 1:28:09who should be in the Hall
- 1:28:10of Fame on the men's side
- 1:28:11of CrossFit next week.
- 1:28:15With that,
- 1:28:19we'll talk about it through the week.
- 1:28:21Just so you know,
- 1:28:22there'll be a heated debate
- 1:28:23throughout the week as to
- 1:28:24what the limit should be.
- 1:28:27With that, everybody,
- 1:28:28thank you so much for jumping on.
- 1:28:30It's going to be a blast next week.
- 1:28:31It's been a blast tonight.
- 1:28:33And don't forget, all access tomorrow,
- 1:28:34final episode, uh,
- 1:28:37twelve noon Eastern Standard Time.
- 1:28:39It's a fifty five minute episode,
- 1:28:41fifty five minute long episode.
