- 0:02SPEAKER_00: Hi guys, welcome back to Speaker Anarchy.
- 0:05SPEAKER_00: This is Ada.
- 0:06SPEAKER_00: I am very excited about right now the public.
- 0:14SPEAKER_00: A lot of people out there, like myself, are probably struggling with like frizz and all sorts of problems, you know, that come with just the summer months, right?
- 0:22SPEAKER_00: With the humidity, the heat, the sun.
- 0:25SPEAKER_00: I mean, there's just so many things here to consider.
- 0:27SPEAKER_00: So I'm really, really excited because today we will be hosting the head of marketing for the brand Leaf and Flower.
- 0:33SPEAKER_00: And um, I'm so excited to introduce her.
- 0:35SPEAKER_00: So welcome the show, uh Stacy Kilfoy.
- 0:38SPEAKER_00: Welcome to the show.
- 0:38SPEAKER_00: Stacy, thank you so much for your time and for coming.
- 0:41SPEAKER_01: Hi, thank you, Acta, for having me.
- 0:43SPEAKER_01: It's great to be here.
- 0:44SPEAKER_00: Oh, it's great to host you.
- 0:46SPEAKER_00: And I'm so honored to host you.
- 0:47SPEAKER_00: I really love the brand.
- 0:49SPEAKER_00: And for everyone listening, Stacy and I were just talking before the interview about how we awarded um Leaf and Flower with our top picks this year because they are so it's so, you know, rightfully deserved.
- 1:01SPEAKER_00: The brand, but you know, at large is amazing, Stacy.
- 1:05SPEAKER_00: So I'm really excited to chat with you and to learn about the brand.
- 1:08SPEAKER_00: But I really want to get started on um, you know, just the introduction front, where you, if you could introduce us to the brand, tell us like where everything began and um what the journey has been like, you know.
- 1:19SPEAKER_00: Yeah, absolutely.
- 1:21SPEAKER_01: Well, with Leaf and Flower, um, we launched in 2019, but the inception and and the excitement for the brand started uh many years before.
- 1:32SPEAKER_01: Um I've been in the hair care industry for going on over two decades.
- 1:37SPEAKER_01: And the team that I have the good fortune of working with, um, we've all been involved in different hair care brands, skincare brands over the years.
- 1:46SPEAKER_01: And we came together uh based upon a lot of research into CBD.
- 1:52SPEAKER_01: And as I'm sure you're aware of, and you've seen and been involved in in your own ways, um, CBD has really um had an incredible uh resurgence, or I shouldn't say resurgence, but emergence into our lives after kind of overcoming many, many years of stigmas and being associated with something that has THC in it and it's not good for you.
- 2:18SPEAKER_01: And then finding out through lots of research and scientific backing that CBD is actually something that's quite remarkable and that cannabinoids have an incredible effect on our not only our vital functions, but also on the functions of you know, our outward appearance, including our hair.
- 2:37SPEAKER_01: So to be able to tap into something that was so new, um, and especially starting with CBD and you know, cannabinoids itself, and then to discover that there's over 116 different cannabinoids that had been untapped until now, that's where we really got excited, especially our research and development team of chemists, uh, because there are so many untapped benefits that they've discovered are beneficial to not only the hair, but more importantly to the scalp.
- 3:09SPEAKER_01: And so that's kind of where our uh beginning started with leaf and flower.
- 3:14SPEAKER_00: Wow, that's amazing.
- 3:15SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I am so excited to learn about, you know, just every time I see CBD being incorporated in formulas, you know, across the board, I'm get very excited about it because it has so much potential, like you said.
- 3:27SPEAKER_00: And I know that um you know much more about that than I do, but I I do know of its impact in the skincare industry.
- 3:33SPEAKER_00: Um I'm very curious to learn about it um from the hair care state, you know, perspective, because, you know, as a whole, I think we definitely, like you said, you know, CBD came onto the scene and everybody was like, oh my God, we're talking about marijuana now, you know, and it was like, no, we're actually talking about a very powerful um, you know, ingredient that is known for so many properties.
- 3:55SPEAKER_00: And I think we're finally, as a consumer um base, you know, we're coming around to the real impact it's had on us, you know, through all of the products that we've used it in.
- 4:04SPEAKER_00: And me especially, I remember when I first encountered it, it was not actually through skincare.
- 4:10SPEAKER_00: I think it was like an oral supplement that I was like introduced to.
- 4:13SPEAKER_00: And I was like, oh my gosh, it's about time, you know, because we had been like in the science community, we all knew, you know, if it's just a matter of time before we start seeing CBD come up.
- 4:22SPEAKER_00: And so it's really cool now to see it being incorporated in so many different avenues.
- 4:27SPEAKER_00: But um I want to learn all about that.
- 4:29SPEAKER_00: If you could tell us a little bit about the science um side, I'd love to hear about um, you know, how you guys really came out with or you decided on which CBD, you know, exactly to use and like what that process was like from the scientific standpoint, um, and then really testing it, you know, on different hair types.
- 4:47SPEAKER_01: Yeah, well, I I think what's interesting, you know, to tap into what you said, you know, you found it, you know, your first experience with CBD to be the oral aspect of it.
- 4:58SPEAKER_01: And what so many of us were were not aware of is that we actually have endocannabinoid receptors within our body that, you know, can take it when they recognize and they see CBD, whether it's taken orally or applied externally, it actively receives the benefits of CBD, which we found from a scientific standpoint blew us away.
- 5:23SPEAKER_01: And so we wanted to investigate that further.
- 5:26SPEAKER_01: And through our research, again, with our team of leading chemists, we found that on that spectrum of the 116 CBDs, not only was there, you know, uh CBD, which is, you know, the main cannabinoid, but there's CBG and CBC.
- 5:43SPEAKER_01: So CBC is cannabichromine, and CBG is cannabigerol, and each one of these has a unique attribute.
- 5:53SPEAKER_01: So you have the cannabichromine, which helps restore the natural production of sebum, which is really critical to your scalp because that creates homeostasis.
- 6:03SPEAKER_01: So that definitely had a component that we were interested in and we wanted to utilize and see what kind of effect it has on the hair.
- 6:10SPEAKER_01: And then in addition, is the CBG, the cannabigerol, and that we found through research and through support through, you know, scientific parties that we worked with is one of the richest concentrations in amino fatty acids.
- 6:24SPEAKER_01: So I'm sure everyone's aware, omega-3, six, and nine.
- 6:28SPEAKER_01: And what's great about that is that it helps promote natural hair growth.
- 6:32SPEAKER_01: So we had three great components of cannabinoids.
- 6:38SPEAKER_01: And what we found is that by combining those three together, when you do that under high pressure and very low temperatures, because that helps preserve the efficacy, they elicit what's called an entourage effect.
- 6:52SPEAKER_01: So they react with those receptors in the scalp to rebalance the moisture and the lubricity in the scalp.
- 6:59SPEAKER_01: And those results that start to come through, not only do you notice them immediately, but through continued use, your hair becomes noticeably stronger.
- 7:10SPEAKER_01: It feels healthier for people with thinner hair.
- 7:13SPEAKER_01: They're noticing that their hair looks and feels fuller.
- 7:16SPEAKER_01: And it's also making the hair a lot easier, more so predictable for daily manageability.
- 7:23SPEAKER_01: So you're having this incredible effect because all of these are combining together and creating this entourage effect, which is just having this multi-tiered effect on your hair from starting from the scalp, but nourishing the hair bulb and all the way down through the ends.
- 7:39SPEAKER_01: Wow.
- 7:42SPEAKER_01: You know, it was nothing like that.
- 7:44SPEAKER_01: And the great thing about it is that it's not synthetic.
- 7:48SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 7:49SPEAKER_01: All naturally derived, they're all, you know, their own components that actually, you know, come from the same source and work together.
- 7:57SPEAKER_00: Absolutely.
- 7:58SPEAKER_00: Yeah, that is so fascinating because, you know, when I I think one of the most interesting parts of all of this is like I think you had mentioned this in the um beginning of the interview was that about this um idea of you know just C BD and the whole like uh we we were talking about in general, and I kept thinking about like anti-inflammatory impact, right?
- 8:19SPEAKER_00: Of CBD overall.
- 8:21SPEAKER_00: And I remember um when it first came out onto the scene in general, that was my one of my biggest pulls into this as an ingredient was this anti-inflammatory effect that it has across the board.
- 8:34SPEAKER_00: And so when we're talking about scalp, which you had mentioned, you know, scalp care specifically, um, I know a lot of people reach out to me, you know, through email, they're always looking for recommendations and stuff.
- 8:44SPEAKER_00: And I a lot of times it's about the scalp, you know, and I know right now the market is saturated with these scalp scrubs and these things that are just, you know what I mean, they're taking away the flakes, they're taking away the dead skin, and I'm all about that.
- 8:58SPEAKER_00: But then it still leaves that question of, well, what are you doing for the inflammation that's really the underlying problem, which is leading to your scalp becoming, you know what I mean, more flaky or um causing more cell turnover that's leading to dandruff, it's leading to things like that.
- 9:14SPEAKER_00: So that's where I find you guys to be so unique because CBD and its anti-inflammatory properties for the scalp are just extremely like, you know, it's like next level amazing, you know, for in terms of like as a consumer.
- 9:28SPEAKER_00: I mean, I'm I don't know if you could uh speak to us on that because I would love to learn about that if you guys found that through any of your studies or um just your work overall, you know, what it's done for people's scalp.
- 9:39SPEAKER_01: We have found that.
- 9:41SPEAKER_01: And what's to your point, you know, people are using products to address, you know, they're not addressing the ca the cause of it, they're addressing the symptoms of it.
- 9:52SPEAKER_01: And so if you can get back to what's causing it, a lot of times it's because the scallop is out of the scalp is out of balance.
- 10:00SPEAKER_01: Right.
- 10:01SPEAKER_01: And that can be from anything from external factors to it could be heredity, it could be your diet, it could be environmental exposure.
- 10:10SPEAKER_01: So there's all sorts of stresses that we as humans, you know, are exposed to every day in some way, shape, or form.
- 10:17SPEAKER_01: And to your point, that inflammation, you know, can present itself, you know, in different ways and you know, change the way our hair looks and feels and the the way it grows.
- 10:29SPEAKER_00: Right, right.
- 10:30SPEAKER_00: No, exactly.
- 10:31SPEAKER_00: That's that's the main thing is like this idea of well, what can we do to combat that inflammation?
- 10:38SPEAKER_00: And, you know, I see this come up a lot, you know.
- 10:41SPEAKER_00: I I I'm not gonna lie, you know, in skincare Stacy, I see this all the time, this anti-inflammatory thing, right?
- 10:47SPEAKER_00: And I think finally brands are like getting behind it now.
- 10:50SPEAKER_00: But as a scientist, I mean, your scalp is your it's still skin, you know.
- 10:54SPEAKER_00: So that's something that I think a lot of consumers are now like, you know, they're like really coming to terms with is this idea of like, wait a minute, I have to protect my scalp just like I protect my skin, you know, like all over because it is skin.
- 11:08SPEAKER_00: And so, you know, with that in mind, you know, it's not just things like dandruff, but even things like hair loss.
- 11:13SPEAKER_00: You know, how many women go through hair loss every year, for example?
- 11:17SPEAKER_00: I mean, that's an inflammatory condition, you know, it's all links back to inflammation.
- 11:22SPEAKER_00: So yeah, I find that to be so intriguing in, you know, in general.
- 11:26SPEAKER_00: But I would love to hear about, you know, when you guys were coming up with like what you wanted the line to really reflect, you know, obviously the CBD is there in part of the DNA, but what about like the different hair types and stuff?
- 11:37SPEAKER_00: If you could walk us through that journey of just, you know, how you crafted the products and why um the certain lines exist as they do within the brand.
- 11:46SPEAKER_01: Well, our focus was to create something that provides a measurable solution for the stylist in the salon to provide for their client when they're not only care, you know, taking care of their hair in their salon, but also what are they, you know, prom not so much promoting, but what are they recommending for them to use between appointments?
- 12:11SPEAKER_01: So it's not only that they can maintain, you know, that everybody loves the way their hair looks after they leave an appointment, whether it's color or you're getting a smoothing treatment, you're you can just feel the sense of confidence and you walk out differently than usually you walk in, at least from my standpoint.
- 12:26SPEAKER_01: And because you're so happy with those results, not only the way your hair looks, but also the way it feels, not just from you know your ends, but also, you know, from your roots down, you know, this was a way for us to create something for the stylist that is addressing the needs of their typical client, giving them something that they can use as a solution in their chair, but also something that they can use at home to really not only prolong those benefits, but also have a long-term result on the hair as it grows and between appointments.
- 13:01SPEAKER_01: And so our focus was based on those two key aspects what does everyone have in common typically when they go into a hair salon?
- 13:10SPEAKER_01: They're getting some kind of a chemical service.
- 13:13SPEAKER_01: Yeah, whether it's color, it's highlights, it's balayage.
- 13:18SPEAKER_01: You are doing something to your hair to change the way it looks and the way it feels.
- 13:26SPEAKER_01: And that requires a chemical process typically.
- 13:29SPEAKER_01: And so with that in mind, we kept the focus on the launch on that damage correction.
- 13:36SPEAKER_01: Because essentially what you're doing when you're going into a salon, you're you're getting a chemical service, you're you're getting color or root touch up, you're doing chemical alteration, which can create damage.
- 13:47SPEAKER_01: It's just the nature of it.
- 13:49SPEAKER_01: So why not create something that, you know, not only takes care of your hair when you're getting those services, but nourishes your scalp.
- 13:57SPEAKER_01: So as your hair bulb is, you know, helping form your hair as it grows, it's getting that additional nourishment it needs so that it's stronger, it's fuller, and healthier.
- 14:09SPEAKER_01: And as you go and you continue to get your chemical service that look great, make your hair look great, give you the color you want, your hair is stronger, it's more resistant.
- 14:17SPEAKER_01: And so that was the impetus behind a focus on damage correction care products as well as stylers, so that you have tools as a stylist that addresses those needs of your clients that address your needs behind the chair.
- 14:32SPEAKER_01: And in between appointments, you're actually seeing, as well as your client, that their hair is looking and feeling noticeably improved.
- 14:40SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I mean, that makes sense, you know, because I've tried all the products, and one thing that really stood out to me, like from all the other brands I use, you know, for my hair, is this idea of the styling products being like top-notch.
- 14:54SPEAKER_00: They're really, really great.
- 14:56SPEAKER_00: And, you know, I'm not somebody who has like any one specific type of hair.
- 14:59SPEAKER_00: You know, I've got some wavy hair, you know, in the back, I've got some straight hair in the front.
- 15:04SPEAKER_00: It's just very hard for me, you know, in general as a consumer to find like one product, right?
- 15:10SPEAKER_01: I can relate the many patterns.
- 15:13SPEAKER_00: Yeah, yeah, exactly.
- 15:14SPEAKER_00: And so I like what I really love is like you guys have this really cool approach where um the product that I'm putting in my hair, like, you know, whether it's styling cream or even something like the instant fridge remedy, which is something I use literally every day, especially right now in the summer months, um, it's really not weighing my hair down, which is something so rare for me because I can't ever find products that are going to do something for all of the hair types I've got going on, you know, because like I said, you know, I have very, very long hair.
- 15:45SPEAKER_00: So it's hard to find one product to fit all of those needs.
- 15:48SPEAKER_00: And so I'm curious from that standpoint, you know, was it something that was hard for you to do in the in the lab in terms of like creating those formulas?
- 15:56SPEAKER_00: Because these are very sophisticated formulas.
- 15:58SPEAKER_01: So glad that you, you know, described your hair type because you are very typical for the average client, as am I, you know, it's not, you know, oh, I'm a straight, you know, texture person.
- 16:10SPEAKER_01: I've also got areas of of you know where it's straight.
- 16:13SPEAKER_01: So that was very representative of what we were hearing from the marketplace with a lot of end consumers, also with stylists, you know, it's not a one size fits all in terms of your of your own texture and you have your own challenges.
- 16:28SPEAKER_01: And so the goal always was how do we create efficacious formulas that address these needs that kind of seem to span across the the end user in a way that's effective, but also you know, helps to address whatever is causing their concerns, and so that testing started internally.
- 16:49SPEAKER_01: And one of the great things that that we have as a as a brand and as an organization is we have an internal research and development team with their own lab.
- 17:00SPEAKER_01: And in addition to that, we also have an in-house salon, which allows us to actually try out and use the products with professional stylists on models who come in to see how effective everything is performing, what the long-term results are.
- 17:18SPEAKER_01: We are able to take that feedback from the stylist, which is so critical to the line because that's one of our tenets for Leaf and Flower, is that it's been developed by stylist for stylist.
- 17:30SPEAKER_01: And so that input coming directly from the stylist in the chair within the same building, that feedback gets fed to our research and development team immediately, and they start addressing those changes in real time on site.
- 17:45SPEAKER_01: So our research and development efforts, we were really able to, you know, scale those up and move those along very quickly because we have those two key components: research and development team on site, as well as an in-house salon with license stylists that allow us to get the feedback from the stylist as well as their consumer, get that over to the research and development team.
- 18:11SPEAKER_01: We adjust formulas accordingly, and then we move on to the next aspect of the test.
- 18:16SPEAKER_00: I love that.
- 18:17SPEAKER_00: That's so cool.
- 18:18SPEAKER_00: I really like that you guys have this like thoroughly, you know, it's kind of like a thorough pipeline of how you handle this because I know a lot of brands that I've you know experienced before, just as a consumer, I've never been able to like, you know, get my address, like my concerns addressed, to be honest.
- 18:34SPEAKER_00: You know, like I, for example, like I'm of Indian descent, you know, so my hair is a little bit more coarse, I think, um, than the average American consumer might experience.
- 18:43SPEAKER_00: And so I have all these different issues, but then, you know, for me, like I remember, you know, like 10 years ago, it was almost almost impossible to get a brand to like hear you, you know, as a consumer.
- 18:54SPEAKER_00: So like hearing that that you guys do have this process in place, it makes me feel better, you know, that there is like an answer, you know, if you hear something or if consumers are giving you feedback, you guys are incorporating it.
- 19:05SPEAKER_00: And I think right now, when I look at the market and I look at the industry as a whole, especially in hair care, there's only like you know, a few brands that I'm like, you're really killing it, you know, because I think that's the that's the bottom line is like, what does the consumer want?
- 19:20SPEAKER_00: And as much as I love stylists, I mean, I'm never gonna be a stylist.
- 19:24SPEAKER_00: Do you know what I mean?
- 19:24SPEAKER_00: At the end of the day, like I'm never gonna be able to work the magic that they work.
- 19:29SPEAKER_00: So, I mean, if I can have products like these at home that make my life easier, right?
- 19:34SPEAKER_00: As like a just an everyday person that goes to work every morning and you know, just has to do their hair like very quickly, it just it's just so much better, you know, and it really shows that you guys have put that work in.
- 19:45SPEAKER_00: You know, that's why I really actually asked the question.
- 19:47SPEAKER_00: So that's that's good to know.
- 19:48SPEAKER_01: Oh well, thank you.
- 19:49SPEAKER_01: And you know, it's so fun for us because, you know, from from my standpoint and where where I am, to be able to engage with and interact with those end consumers and the stylists on a one-in-one level, as well as with our research and development team creates such a unique and important collaborative effort that we have a better understanding from the marketing end as to what's working and what needs to be changed and what's really resonating with with the end user.
- 20:16SPEAKER_01: That's so important to speak to you, Ecta, to speak to you know, every end consumer and and let you know that you know what, we're glad we were having this dialogue and that, you know, please know that you're being heard because the next version you're gonna see is gonna be one that addresses what you you've mentioned, you know, is of issue with you.
- 20:37SPEAKER_00: Exactly.
- 20:37SPEAKER_00: No, I I think that's so, so important.
- 20:39SPEAKER_00: And you know, one other thing I really loved immediately, right?
- 20:43SPEAKER_00: When I first tried the line, and this is for all the listeners out there, like it is not hard, you guys, to navigate through leaf and flower and figuring out what is good for your hair type.
- 20:52SPEAKER_00: Like that's something for me.
- 20:53SPEAKER_00: I don't know if you guys feel the same way, but for me as a consumer, that's very important because when I find brands that are like they're very, you know, professional grade hair care brands, like it's you have like a million products to go through.
- 21:06SPEAKER_00: You know what I mean?
- 21:07SPEAKER_00: Like it's so hard to figure out is this something I need?
- 21:11SPEAKER_00: You know, is this something that like what's going to make like work for my hair type is my point.
- 21:15SPEAKER_00: You know, that process of like creating that judgment, figuring out what to buy, like it can become daunting.
- 21:22SPEAKER_00: So I really love the way that you guys have everything categorized.
- 21:25SPEAKER_00: And that's something I really want to address, you know, and is and this is specifically for all my curly haired people out there because I know you guys suffer a lot with finding good products, you know what I mean, in terms of like keeping your frizz down, keeping your curls the way you want them to be.
- 21:40SPEAKER_00: But like that's why I love that you guys have an your collection is literally labeled that.
- 21:45SPEAKER_00: Like it's for curly hair.
- 21:46SPEAKER_00: And it works really well because, like, my fiance, for example, his hair is completely different than mine.
- 21:51SPEAKER_00: It's very curly and it's you know, coarser than mine.
- 21:54SPEAKER_00: And he loves the products.
- 21:56SPEAKER_00: Like he's like, these are the easiest products I've ever used, you know, for curly hair.
- 22:00SPEAKER_00: So that's something I wanted to talk to you about was this education aspect for your consumers and really translating that, like, you know, um, like for a hairstylist, they can get through like a list of a hundred products, right?
- 22:11SPEAKER_00: And figure out, okay, my customer needs this.
- 22:14SPEAKER_00: But like translating that over for consumers, like what was that like for you in terms of like the marketing side of it, you know?
- 22:21SPEAKER_01: Well, you know, I think no one's surprised when they find that their stylist and and the end user, you know, shares the same concern.
- 22:29SPEAKER_01: I don't nobody wants to have a hundred SKUs to go through.
- 22:32SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 22:33SPEAKER_01: They they want to have care products and styling part products that are efficacious and that give a result.
- 22:42SPEAKER_01: Period.
- 22:43SPEAKER_01: They understand their client's texture, they understand the type of hair that's sitting in their chair.
- 22:48SPEAKER_01: And the reality is you don't need so many SKUs to address address the needs of your own hair as the end consumer, and for the stylist, the needs of the different hair types in your chair.
- 22:59SPEAKER_01: So, with that being said, you know, we have done the research, you know, not only on the ingredients, but also to what are end consumers looking for, what are the stylists looking for?
- 23:10SPEAKER_01: How can we meet those needs in a way with very few products but that deliver the results that they want?
- 23:16SPEAKER_01: And one of those, those categories was, as you said, it's curl.
- 23:21SPEAKER_01: It's very important.
- 23:22SPEAKER_01: And curly hair in its nature is structured very differently than straight hair or coarse hair.
- 23:30SPEAKER_01: It's a curved structure, and as such, it presents challenges for that curly customer to have hair that, you know, retain their curls, but also strengthen those weak points in the spirals, which is just part of the makeup of a curl, um, so that they get that strengthening, they get the hydration through that curl structure, the so that the moisture doesn't build up on the scalp, which often happens with a curly hair client.
- 24:01SPEAKER_01: And that's something we were, you know, made it a point to address when we did come out with our curl uh collection.
- 24:09SPEAKER_01: Because curly hair needs are very specific and very different from other hair types and textures.
- 24:15SPEAKER_00: Yeah, and you know, just to add to what you said, it's so real true because what I've noticed a lot with curly hair types is that because there are so many products involved in in most people's routines that have very curly hair, it's always like their scalp is weighted down.
- 24:30SPEAKER_00: Like it always looks as if their scalp has been weighted, like the the roots have been weighed down, you know what I mean, with all of the product.
- 24:37SPEAKER_00: And so, like with CBD, you know, going back to this idea of like having this in your products, like, is it do you think it's because it is like an oil-based, like, you know, because CBD is extracted as an oil, right?
- 24:49SPEAKER_00: I'm guessing that's how you guys are also utilizing it.
- 24:52SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 24:52SPEAKER_00: So, like, do you think that's probably helping a lot?
- 24:55SPEAKER_00: Because I mean, honestly, like I said, you know, with the, for example, like there's for everyone listening, there's an instant curl defining uh, you know, cream, and it's wonderful.
- 25:04SPEAKER_00: You know, I've I know my fiance tried it, he absolutely loves it.
- 25:08SPEAKER_00: He and one of the biggest feedbacks he had for me was it doesn't weigh my roots down, you know what I mean?
- 25:13SPEAKER_00: Like I can tell that it's not weighing everything down.
- 25:16SPEAKER_00: And I was like, yeah, I'm noticing that, and I wonder if that's the oil.
- 25:20SPEAKER_01: Well, I you know, to to get back to the the first part of your question is, you know, it's the scalp is so critical.
- 25:29SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 25:29SPEAKER_01: And and with curly hair, people with curly hair, and I'm sure your fiance can testify to this, you know, that that natural sebum doesn't travel down a curved structure.
- 25:43SPEAKER_01: So it tends to gather on the scalp.
- 25:45SPEAKER_01: So you're already contending with that aspect, and then on top of it, as a curly hair customer, you're doing everything you feel possible and necessary to, you know, get your definition to put hydration into your hair, oftentimes, you know, addressing the the roots equally as the ends.
- 26:05SPEAKER_01: And what ends up happening is that it's just creating additional buildup.
- 26:09SPEAKER_01: And the hair, the curls aren't getting the hydration they need.
- 26:12SPEAKER_01: They're just getting product that's sitting on the outside.
- 26:15SPEAKER_01: And what they truly need, essentially, to start with is that rebalancing of the scalp, and thus the importance of the curl care shampoo.
- 26:26SPEAKER_00: It's interesting.
- 26:26SPEAKER_00: That is so interesting to think of it from a scalp perspective, because every time I swear, every time I hear about curly hair, all I ever hear about is like hydrogen bonds that keep your curls curly.
- 26:37SPEAKER_00: And I'm like, well, there's gotta be more to it, right?
- 26:40SPEAKER_00: So that's really interesting to hear that, you know, the scalp plays such a role, you know, in the overall like look and um, you know, the the good looking of curls, like because curls, I I have know nothing about them.
- 26:51SPEAKER_00: I don't have curly hair.
- 26:52SPEAKER_00: So, but I can definitely see that there's a huge struggle here, you know, in terms of like consumers finding those products that work for them.
- 27:00SPEAKER_00: So, you know, that that's that's good to know.
- 27:02SPEAKER_00: Um, but what is it like, for example, like I am curious, you know, in terms of like for the the cream that I was talking about, right?
- 27:10SPEAKER_00: The curl defined cream, um, defining cream, like what is it that you think is the most important thing to know, you know, if you do have very curly hair as a consumer, like what should we really be focused on with that hair type?
- 27:25SPEAKER_01: Well, you know, the one thing about you and the the more in-depth you get with curls, and I think what's so fascinating about curls is there's so many different curl types.
- 27:37SPEAKER_01: Um, and that's every I mean, it's everything from you know, a loose wave is a texture all the way to you know spirals and ringlets.
- 27:46SPEAKER_01: So it and then there's all sorts of different thicknesses, you know.
- 27:50SPEAKER_01: A lot of people don't realize that a lot of curly, coily hair is actually very fine.
- 27:56SPEAKER_01: And so with that curved structure, those coiled hair fibers, which helps give curls their shape, um, they're very fragile.
- 28:06SPEAKER_01: And so what's important is that you know, you're addressing those weak points within a curved structure to provide that strength so that you're not getting the breakage, you're getting the protection so that you can enjoy your curls, you can care for your curls and not be so stressed out that, oh my gosh, am I putting too much on it?
- 28:26SPEAKER_01: Am I weighing them down?
- 28:27SPEAKER_01: Am I am I, you know, causing damage?
- 28:30SPEAKER_01: You know, that's all things that are just some of the aspects that a curly-haired consumer, you know, has in mind when they're looking at a shelf full of hair care products, what's going to give me the best results without creating, you know, stress on my hair.
- 28:45SPEAKER_00: Exactly.
- 28:46SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 28:46SPEAKER_00: I feel like that is, yeah, it's the main thing is finding the right products.
- 28:50SPEAKER_00: You know, that's the struggle.
- 28:52SPEAKER_00: And I think we can all relate to that, you know, definitely curly haired um, you know, folks out there, but I think in general, even with straight hair, you know, it's so hard to find like those one or two products that work, you know, and relying on them day in and day out.
- 29:06SPEAKER_00: That's the hardest part.
- 29:07SPEAKER_00: I can't tell you how many times like I've sat in a stylist chair and you know, they get done with your hair and you're like, well, what did you use on my hair?
- 29:14SPEAKER_00: And they'll tell you what they use, and you go home with it and it just doesn't work, you know, because maybe you're not doing something right.
- 29:20SPEAKER_00: But that's something I found to be very unique about Leaf and Flower is that, you know, the fact that we are able as consumers to try it at home.
- 29:28SPEAKER_00: We are using really high grade quality, you know, ingredients in the actual product.
- 29:34SPEAKER_00: So you see the results right there.
- 29:36SPEAKER_00: I think that experience as a consumer, and correct me if I'm wrong, like it goes a long way, you know, in terms of developing trust in a brand.
- 29:43SPEAKER_00: Because at the end of the day, like I can go to a stylist, right?
- 29:46SPEAKER_00: And I can always go to a stylist and they'll work their magic, they'll make me look amazing, and you know, I'll walk out of there, uh, still not knowing what to do every day with my own hair.
- 29:55SPEAKER_00: So that's, I think, you know, where like somebody like myself, I get very fascinated by a brand that is so backed by science like yours because you know, this tells me that I can do it by myself, and that's huge, you know.
- 30:09SPEAKER_01: Well, and and you know, what you've just described is is so important because you didn't describe a product, you described a tool that's going to allow you to replicate what your stylist does in the salon.
- 30:21SPEAKER_01: You can do it at home much easier and with almost the exact same result.
- 30:27SPEAKER_01: And like you said, you're you're not a stylist by trade, but you know what?
- 30:31SPEAKER_01: When you have the right tools, you can replicate that look at home, which is really exciting.
- 30:36SPEAKER_01: And that's what we love hearing from from fans of the brand like you is that it's giving you something that you haven't had before that's now made it easier, more time effective to get the result that you want that makes you happy about your hair.
- 30:54SPEAKER_00: That makes sense, and it really shows.
- 30:56SPEAKER_00: It really shows.
- 30:56SPEAKER_00: I think like a good brand, and I always say this, Stacy.
- 31:00SPEAKER_00: I swear people are always asking me for these recommendations.
- 31:02SPEAKER_00: And I'm like, listen, you know, if you find a brand that works, guys, stick to it.
- 31:07SPEAKER_00: You know what I mean?
- 31:08SPEAKER_00: Like just you have to, it's it's that process of finding that brand that is going to make you feel, like you said, very, very, you know, well spoken in the sense of finding the tools that make your life easier, you know, what wherever that is, whether that's hair care, skincare, beauty, whatever you want to, you know, wherever the struggle is for you, for everyone listening out there, you have to find the right tools.
- 31:30SPEAKER_00: And I agree, you know, I think that with Leaf and Flower, the products, you know, the reason I've asked so many questions about, you know, well, how did you do this is because that's how I feel, that's how I felt as a customer.
- 31:42SPEAKER_00: You know, when I first tried the brand, I was blown away by it.
- 31:46SPEAKER_00: You know, it's like this is a really, really great brand.
- 31:48SPEAKER_00: Like you guys have put a lot of thought into these products and you've thought about the consumer because at the end of the day, if I can put a styling cream in my hair and my hair actually looks the way I want it to look after styling cream is put in there, that speaks by itself.
- 32:03SPEAKER_00: You don't need marketing at that point.
- 32:05SPEAKER_00: You know what I mean?
- 32:06SPEAKER_00: You don't need to like, you know, tell me why I should buy it.
- 32:09SPEAKER_00: It speaks for itself.
- 32:10SPEAKER_00: And so that goes a really long way.
- 32:12SPEAKER_00: And I just I really want to, you know, hats off to you and your whole team for creating that because you guys have really done it, you know.
- 32:19SPEAKER_01: Well, thank you so much.
- 32:20SPEAKER_01: And you know, just just a reminder that whole team includes, you know, our our our stylists and our and our end consumers like you with the honest feedback.
- 32:29SPEAKER_00: Thank you so much.
- 32:30SPEAKER_00: Yeah, no, I I think that it's really kind of like it takes a village, I think, to create a great brand.
- 32:36SPEAKER_00: And I think consumers are a huge part of it.
- 32:39SPEAKER_00: You know, we have so much feedback, and it's important for brands to listen to that because at the end of the day, if you're not listening to your customers, like you're not gonna learn, you know what I mean, where to fix it.
- 32:49SPEAKER_00: And I think one thing I want to talk about, and science again, but uh, you know, that I found to be very interesting that you had brought up lightly.
- 32:57SPEAKER_00: And it's something that I've been thinking about because at the end of the day in the hair care market, you see a lot of products out there that are talking about the most of your hair, you know, not your scalp, but the rest of your hair, right?
- 33:07SPEAKER_00: And they're talking about, well, you need to stabilize it, you need to make it stronger, you need to put strength in it.
- 33:13SPEAKER_00: But then I'm thinking, well, what adds strength to your actual hair?
- 33:16SPEAKER_00: Because most of your hair is dead for everyone listening out there, as we all know.
- 33:20SPEAKER_00: And so when I look at the CBD component, one of the I think the most fascinating things for me is this idea of like the amount of vitamins that comes, right?
- 33:29SPEAKER_00: Like like the fatty, fat-soluble vitamins that are in the oil.
- 33:33SPEAKER_00: So, like that to me, like I feel like that's important for strengthening your hair.
- 33:38SPEAKER_00: I mean, am I wrong in that or is that correct?
- 33:42SPEAKER_01: No, you're you're you're absolutely correct.
- 33:44SPEAKER_01: And and that once again, you know, we get to the scalp and you're nourishing that hair bulb.
- 33:50SPEAKER_01: So to your point, yes, you know, once once the the hair grows from the follicle, yes, it's is it's dead, but that hair within the follicle, when it's in that bulb and it's being formed, it's getting the the nutrients required to actually, you know, give it the strength to make it as full as as possible as it's being formed.
- 34:12SPEAKER_01: So when it does, you know, go through its growth cycle, people are actually seeing a difference in the quality of their hair versus what it looked like before.
- 34:22SPEAKER_00: Wow.
- 34:22SPEAKER_00: Yeah, no, it makes a lot of sense because, like, literally, like I grew up with hair oiling and I know it like blew up recently, like in the hair industry, but like, you know, it makes me think this is, you know, all making me think of that because the more I think about the scalp, the more I realize, you know, when you use oil-based products, like your scalp is constantly nourished, and the hair that's gonna come out of it is gonna be very healthy, you know, because you're coming out of a nourished resource, you know, like it's like our skin, you know, in skincare, we're always talking about, well, how can we get to the dermal layers?
- 34:56SPEAKER_00: You know what I mean?
- 34:56SPEAKER_00: Like, how can we get deeper into the skin and really get, you know, all of those good proteins to like proliferate and, you know, more and more substance down there because we all know that the cells that are going to come to the surface from a healthy base are going to be better than cells that come to the surface from an unhealthy base.
- 35:13SPEAKER_00: And I think with hair, it's so hard for us, I think, as consumers to go in that direction because we've been focusing for so long on the rest of it, right?
- 35:23SPEAKER_00: Like we've been focused for like for decades on like your hair, you know, the actual like part that's dead, but we're not thinking about the scalp.
- 35:32SPEAKER_00: We're not thinking about, well, if I keep nourishing the scalp, whatever comes out of it is going to be healthy and it's going to be for the long term much more beneficial for me, you know, than just adding on a bunch of products that are, you know, uh quote unquote strengthening the ends of it or whatnot, you know, split ends or whatever it is that we're trying to fix.
- 35:51SPEAKER_01: Exactly.
- 35:51SPEAKER_01: You're really, you're really untapping the hair's true potential.
- 35:55SPEAKER_01: Exactly.
- 35:57SPEAKER_01: You know, instead of you know looking at a result where it's, you know, well, you know, my hair's always looked this way or always felt this way.
- 36:03SPEAKER_01: Well, because you have you've been caring for your hair, you know, you haven't been considering, you know, the scalp, you know, is is oftentimes what people are realizing.
- 36:12SPEAKER_01: You know, you have to get to that the beginnings of it.
- 36:16SPEAKER_01: And really when you provide it with again the nourishment and with the the proven, you know, ingredients that have been shown clinically to support healthier hair growth, that's where you see the changes.
- 36:30SPEAKER_00: I agree.
- 36:31SPEAKER_00: I completely agree.
- 36:31SPEAKER_00: And I I really, really love the brand.
- 36:34SPEAKER_00: I think it's so well done.
- 36:35SPEAKER_00: And Stacey, I can't rave enough about it.
- 36:38SPEAKER_00: Like genuinely, I'm obsessed.
- 36:40SPEAKER_00: And I think that everyone out there, you guys, like we have we live in a crazy world right now where there are products popping up every single day.
- 36:48SPEAKER_00: So I know you guys have a lot of options, but I'm telling you, like, this is a really, really great line.
- 36:55SPEAKER_00: I mean, for anyone, whether you have curly hair, straight hair, you know, all different types of hair, like mine, like you know, and mine and Stacy's, like we described.
- 37:04SPEAKER_00: I mean, it's really, really great.
- 37:06SPEAKER_00: And it helps you, you know.
- 37:08SPEAKER_00: I mean, I'm gonna go back to what Stacy said.
- 37:11SPEAKER_00: It gives you the right tools, you know, it gives you the tools you need.
- 37:14SPEAKER_00: And at the end of the day, you know, we none of us have the money to go to a stylist every single day.
- 37:19SPEAKER_00: You know, you need products you can rely on.
- 37:22SPEAKER_00: And I really just, you know, I'm just really glad that you guys are doing it right.
- 37:26SPEAKER_00: And I really love CBD, so it's cool to see, you know, another um like, you know, set of products I can incorporate into my routine that have C BD in it.
- 37:34SPEAKER_00: So I really encourage everyone, you know, check out the brand, try out the products, you know, start with one.
- 37:40SPEAKER_00: That's what my recommendation is always, you know, towards in terms of any kind of product is try one product that you think is going to be good for you and then take it from there.
- 37:49SPEAKER_00: But I know that if you do, you're gonna really love it.
- 37:51SPEAKER_00: So, but Stacy, thank you so much.
- 37:53SPEAKER_00: This has been so wonderful to host you and to learn from you because I really learned a lot about just scalp health and hair health and all the good stuff.
- 38:01SPEAKER_01: Well, thank you for the opportunity, Ecta.
- 38:03SPEAKER_01: And again, we can't thank you enough for the accolade and the award.
- 38:06SPEAKER_01: And we're so happy that you're enjoying the products and what they're doing for your scalp and for your hair.
- 38:12SPEAKER_01: And we're excited for your followers and your fans to experience instant uh frizz remedy or any one of our CBD-infused products, uh, whatever works for their hair type.
- 38:24SPEAKER_01: Uh, we do have three collections in our line just to let everybody know, so they can kind of shop what works best for their hair texture.
- 38:32SPEAKER_01: As we just talked about, we have the curl collection.
- 38:34SPEAKER_01: We also have a volume collection, and of course, our instant damage correction collection.
- 38:39SPEAKER_01: So thank you so much.
- 38:41SPEAKER_01: And we're so excited that you're so enthusiastic about the brand.
- 38:44SPEAKER_01: And we really appreciate you and all of your feedback and support.
- 38:48SPEAKER_00: Oh no, it's my pleasure.
- 38:50SPEAKER_00: And I just I love the instant damage.
- 38:52SPEAKER_00: Uh that's my favorite one, that line.
- 38:54SPEAKER_00: So uh if anyone has hair like mine, go for that one.
- 38:57SPEAKER_00: That's a really, really great uh option.
- 38:59SPEAKER_00: But I also have a request, Stacey, before we go, and it's for you guys to make a hair oil.
- 39:04SPEAKER_00: You have to make a hair oil, like for daily hair oiling.
- 39:08SPEAKER_00: Like I feel like it would be the most rock star hair oil ever.
- 39:11SPEAKER_00: So that's my request.
- 39:13SPEAKER_01: For hair oiling, I'm making note, but at the same time, we do have our phytomolecular oil, which um I would love to send to you.
- 39:23SPEAKER_01: So I'll um make sure that I'll get some of that out your way and you can try that out as well at your leisure and and your discretion.
- 39:29SPEAKER_01: If that sounds good.
- 39:31SPEAKER_00: Yeah, absolutely.
- 39:32SPEAKER_00: Thank you so much.
- 39:33SPEAKER_00: And for everyone listening, thank you so much.
