- Lucas: Hei, og velkommen til episode 151 of Learn Norwegian with Fexingo. I'm Lucas. Luna: And I'm Luna. Lucas, last episode we learned 'å gjøre' — to do. That was a good one. Lucas: Yeah, 'å gjøre' is super useful. Today we're going to learn another verb that you'll use all the time. Luna: Oh, which one? Lucas: It's 'å åpne' — to open. Luna: Å åpne. To open. Okay, like opening a door? Lucas: Exactly. Let's start with the base form: 'å åpne'. Say it with me, Luna. Luna: Å åpne. Lucas: Good. Now the present tense: 'jeg åpner' — I open. Try that. Luna: Jeg åpner. Lucas: Perfect. And a question: 'åpner du?' — do you open? Give it a shot. Luna: Åpner du? Lucas: Yes. Now let's put it with objects. 'Døren' means 'the door'. So 'åpne døren' — open the door. Luna: Åpne døren. Lucas: Great. And 'vinduet' means 'the window'. 'Åpne vinduet'. Luna: Åpne vinduet. Lucas: And finally, 'boken' means 'the book'. 'Åpne boken' — open the book. Luna: Åpne boken. Lucas: You're doing awesome. Let's practice a little scene. Imagine you're in a room and it's hot. What do you say? Luna: Uhh... 'åpne vinduet'? Lucas: Exactly! 'Åpne vinduet, vær så snill' — open the window, please. That's a full sentence. Luna: Ah, so 'vær så snill' means 'please'. Lucas: Yes. Now you try saying 'open the window, please' in Norwegian. Luna: Åpne vinduet, vær så snill. Lucas: Perfect! And if someone knocks on the door, you can say 'åpne døren'. Luna: Åpne døren. Got it. Lucas: Let's do a quick drill. I'll say the English, you say the Norwegian. 'Open the door.' Luna: Åpne døren. Lucas: 'Open the window.' Luna: Åpne vinduet. Lucas: 'Open the book.' Luna: Åpne boken. Lucas: Excellent. Now let's use 'jeg åpner' in a sentence. 'Jeg åpner døren.' Luna: Jeg åpner døren. That means 'I open the door'. Lucas: Right. And a question: 'Åpner du vinduet?' — do you open the window? Luna: Åpner du vinduet? That sounds like something you'd ask on a warm day. Lucas: Exactly. So let's imagine it's a bit stuffy in here. You could say, 'Kan du åpne vinduet?' — can you open the window? Luna: Kan du åpne vinduet? Oh, that's useful. So 'kan du' is 'can you'. Lucas: Yes. Now you try. Luna: Kan du åpne vinduet? Lucas: Great. And if you want to ask someone to open the door, you say 'kan du åpne døren?' Luna: Kan du åpne døren? Simple. Lucas: Now let's do a quick review of all the phrases. Listen and repeat after me. First: 'å åpne'. Luna: Å åpne. Lucas: 'Jeg åpner.' Luna: Jeg åpner. Lucas: 'Åpner du?' Luna: Åpner du? Lucas: 'Åpne døren.' Luna: Åpne døren. Lucas: 'Åpne vinduet.' Luna: Åpne vinduet. Lucas: 'Åpne boken.' Luna: Åpne boken. Lucas: You've got it. Let me tell you, Luna, I've been thinking — if this podcast helps you open new doors in Norwegian, that's exactly what we're here for. Luna: Nice pun. But seriously, I feel like I'm actually remembering these verbs. Lucas: That's the goal. And if someone out there feels that this show is worth a coffee, you know, there's a way to support us. Luna: Yeah, if you're finding these episodes helpful, a small gesture goes a long way. Lucas: Right. If today was worth a coffee to you, you can head to buy me a coffee dot com slash fexingo. No pressure, but it helps us keep going. Luna: Absolutely. We really appreciate everyone who listens and supports. Now, back to å åpne. Lucas: Yes, let's open up more sentences. Try this: 'Jeg åpner boken for å lese.' — I open the book to read. Luna: Jeg åpner boken for å lese. That uses 'for å' which means 'in order to'. Lucas: Exactly. And 'å lese' we learned in episode 141. So you're combining verbs. Luna: I love when things start to connect. Lucas: Let's do one more. 'Hun åpner døren.' — She opens the door. Luna: Hun åpner døren. So 'hun' is 'she'. Lucas: Right. And 'han åpner vinduet.' — He opens the window. Luna: Han åpner vinduet. Lucas: Great. Now I'll say a sentence, and you tell me what it means. 'Åpner du døren?' Luna: That's 'do you open the door?' Lucas: Yes. 'Jeg åpner vinduet.' Luna: 'I open the window.' Lucas: Perfect. And 'kan du åpne boken?' Luna: 'Can you open the book?' Lucas: You're doing wonderfully. Let's wrap up with a full repetition of all our phrases. Repeat after me. Luna: Okay. Lucas: Å åpne. Luna: Å åpne. Lucas: Jeg åpner. Luna: Jeg åpner. Lucas: Åpner du? Luna: Åpner du? Lucas: Åpne døren. Luna: Åpne døren. Lucas: Åpne vinduet. Luna: Åpne vinduet. Lucas: Åpne boken. Luna: Åpne boken. Lucas: Fantastic. That's all for today's episode. Keep practicing opening doors and windows in Norwegian. Luna: And books. Don't forget books. Ha det bra, everyone. Lucas: Ha det bra. Vi ses neste gang.
