Transcript
- 0:07Speaker 1: The Season with Peter Scheger is a production of the
- 0:09Speaker 1: NFL in partnership with iHeartRadio. What's up, everybody, This is
- 0:24Speaker 1: Peter Schreger listening to the Season with Peter Schreger. I'm
- 0:28Speaker 1: currently at three forty five Park Avenue, which is the
- 0:31Speaker 1: official NFL league headquarters. I'm joined by Aaron Wang Kaufman
- 0:36Speaker 1: and Jason English, our folks from the iHeartMedia team, because
- 0:39Speaker 1: we're gonna do an in studio, in person interview with
- 0:44Speaker 1: Hans Schroeder, who is the executive vice president of Media Distribution.
- 0:48Speaker 1: Hans leads a lot of the league's overall media strategy
- 0:52Speaker 1: and we've been talking for months and I thought, with
- 0:55Speaker 1: what is an incredible TV sports primarily NFL Weekend ahead,
- 1:01Speaker 1: Hans would be a great guest to have on a
- 1:03Speaker 1: little different than a coach or a GM or a
- 1:05Speaker 1: celebrity like we usually have. Here's one of the decision
- 1:07Speaker 1: makers at the league. We're gonna have Hans on in
- 1:10Speaker 1: a second. In the meantime, we are currently in a
- 1:12Speaker 1: conference room overlooking New York City and Aaron, is this
- 1:16Speaker 1: your first time in the league headquarters. Do you feel
- 1:20Speaker 1: like you've got to be on your P's and Q's here.
- 1:22Speaker 2: Yeah, it's my first time here. I don't know if
- 1:24Speaker 2: I'm allowed to say this, but I was told ahead
- 1:27Speaker 2: of time I couldn't wear sneakers, so I had to
- 1:28Speaker 2: be a little more dressed up. That's my rual setup.
- 1:31Speaker 1: Yeah, we're a bright white sneakers. Is it because I'm
- 1:35Speaker 1: celebrity talent? Is that what it is?
- 1:37Speaker 3: Only one of us has been on Celebrity Jefpardy that's it?
- 1:39Speaker 1: Yeah, exactly. No, I'm excited to be here, and it's
- 1:42Speaker 1: been a cool couple hours that we have been here,
- 1:45Speaker 1: and We've got a chance to speak with a lot
- 1:46Speaker 1: of folks, both off the record and then friends that
- 1:49Speaker 1: I've had, And I think the NFL is in a
- 1:51Speaker 1: really good place right now, and I'm excited for this week.
- 1:53Speaker 1: We're gonna have Hans on in a second to discuss
- 1:56Speaker 1: primarily the creation of this Amazon Black Friday game between
- 2:01Speaker 1: the Jets and the Dolphins and how it came to be.
- 2:03Speaker 1: But I'd be lying Aaron if I'm not still a
- 2:06Speaker 1: little bit hungover from what we saw last night on
- 2:09Speaker 1: ESPN and ABC Super Bowl rematch. And I've got my
- 2:14Speaker 1: concerns about them. Kansas City chiefs. This is my I
- 2:19Speaker 1: come in here and I come here with a hat
- 2:21Speaker 1: in hand, and I say I have been so don't
- 2:24Speaker 1: worry about it. They'll figure it out. Don't worry about it.
- 2:26Speaker 1: They'll figure it out. And yes, they are seven and
- 2:29Speaker 1: three and they're still gonna win the AFC West. And
- 2:31Speaker 1: don't worry about They have twenty six drops, the most
- 2:36Speaker 1: drops in the league. They have not scored a point
- 2:38Speaker 1: in the second half since October twenty second. They also
- 2:43Speaker 1: had Justin Watson as their leading target man last night.
- 2:47Speaker 1: These are not hey, we're figuring it out in September
- 2:50Speaker 1: concerns or don't worry about it, things will figure themselves
- 2:54Speaker 1: out concerns. These are legitimately do we have the players
- 2:57Speaker 1: concerns and they might not have the weapons. And Kelsey
- 3:01Speaker 1: had a couple bad drops, a fumble and a drop
- 3:03Speaker 1: last night. Furthermore, Kelsey was triple teams. So at some
- 3:06Speaker 1: point Tony needs to step up. At some point Watson
- 3:09Speaker 1: needs to step up. And I give my homes credit.
- 3:11Speaker 1: I was very, very keen and watching what he had
- 3:14Speaker 1: to say after the game, and he would not to
- 3:17Speaker 1: a man, he would not throw those guys under the bus.
- 3:20Speaker 1: Valdez Scanting drops what would have been the game winning touchdown.
- 3:22Speaker 1: It's right in his hands, he drops it, and they
- 3:25Speaker 1: gave Mahomes thirty opportunity and he's like, I underthrow him.
- 3:28Speaker 1: It wasn't a great pass. I'm curious to see what
- 3:32Speaker 1: the week is like in Kansas City because I don't
- 3:35Speaker 1: know if you know, Patrick Mahomes has never played in
- 3:38Speaker 1: a playoff game on the road beside Super Bowls. Ever,
- 3:42Speaker 1: right now, if the playoffs were tomorrow, the Ravens would
- 3:44Speaker 1: be the one seed and the Chiefs would have to
- 3:46Speaker 1: go on the road and they would have to figure
- 3:48Speaker 1: it out that first round and then probably be home
- 3:50Speaker 1: and then have to go wherever that AFC Championship game has.
- 3:53Speaker 1: Maybe this is much ado about nothing, but I was
- 3:55Speaker 1: a little concerned watching them and the week after week
- 3:58Speaker 1: after week story that they cannot get their passing game going.
- 4:02Speaker 1: It's amazing that the Kansas City Chiefs, who I thought
- 4:05Speaker 1: last year, you know, Tyreek's not there, and they answered
- 4:08Speaker 1: every single question and sky Moore stepped up and Valdez
- 4:11Speaker 1: Scantling stepped up, and Juju stepped up that this year
- 4:14Speaker 1: it hasn't happened. It hasn't happened. Meanwhile, a week ago
- 4:18Speaker 1: we did a funeral on this podcast for the Buffalo
- 4:20Speaker 1: Bills after their loss and how they went down to
- 4:23Speaker 1: the Denver Broncos. Sure enough, a week later, Aaron Bills
- 4:27Speaker 1: are right back in this thing. They're the seventh seed
- 4:30Speaker 1: or the eighth seed right now. But Ken Dorsey's offense
- 4:33Speaker 1: put up thirty two points. They were lights out against
- 4:36Speaker 1: the Jets, and suddenly you look at the Bills and
- 4:37Speaker 1: you're like, all right, we're back on the Bills. This
- 4:40Speaker 1: is how it goes. You're our resident Bills fan, how
- 4:42Speaker 1: you feeling about your Buffalo Boys?
- 4:44Speaker 3: Good?
- 4:44Speaker 2: I mean so Also, not Dorsey's offense. It was breat
- 4:46Speaker 2: Joe Brady's offense that did it. And I mean for
- 4:49Speaker 2: them to put up that game. Still some issues, like
- 4:53Speaker 2: in the beginning, you know, it was a couple of
- 4:55Speaker 2: field goals and it was like, look if they if
- 4:57Speaker 2: they can only convert in the red zone with field goals,
- 5:00Speaker 2: they're still not going to get through this. Goneloa up
- 5:02Speaker 2: a schedule. But the Shakir touchdown, like seeing him cut
- 5:07Speaker 2: through the field and and just score on something he
- 5:10Speaker 2: shouldn't off, Oh my god. And Kinkaid not a blocker.
- 5:15Speaker 2: He's he is a catching, receiving tight end. And for
- 5:18Speaker 2: him to be doing those blocks on a day that
- 5:20Speaker 2: Gabe Davis had I think zero targets Steph Diggs like
- 5:25Speaker 2: wasn't a huge Yeah, yeah, I know, watching him put
- 5:29Speaker 2: his arms out because he went to go get that. Yeah,
- 5:33Speaker 2: that was. That was a really nice game to watch.
- 5:36Speaker 2: And I know the Jets have their issues on offense,
- 5:39Speaker 2: but their defense is still incredible. And for the Bills
- 5:42Speaker 2: to put up a game like that, and look, there
- 5:45Speaker 2: was I forget which game it was, maybe it was
- 5:47Speaker 2: two weeks ago or something where Josh Allen threw a
- 5:49Speaker 2: touchdown and just like straight faced, you know, he he
- 5:53Speaker 2: ran up, got the ball and like went off to
- 5:55Speaker 2: the sideline. This Sunday, that Shakir touchdown, Josh Allen was
- 6:00Speaker 2: like bursting with energy.
- 6:02Speaker 1: Such joy too. The Ty Johnson touchdown, Yeah, running back
- 6:04Speaker 1: and then he jumps into the stands. I said this, like,
- 6:07Speaker 1: if Joe Brady isn't Bill Walsh or whatever you expect
- 6:10Speaker 1: him to be, or McVeigh or whoever it is, at
- 6:12Speaker 1: the very least, it felt like there was a joy
- 6:14Speaker 1: in that building and there was an excitement and it
- 6:16Speaker 1: was like a you could feel the sigh of relief that,
- 6:18Speaker 1: oh my god, we still have a chance. And they do.
- 6:20Speaker 1: So Buffalo is right back in this thing. The Ravens,
- 6:23Speaker 1: they win, they get hurt, they lose Andrews, but they're
- 6:25Speaker 1: still rolling. But Cincinnati, that was a deafening blow. That sucked.
- 6:29Speaker 2: That's that Thursday night was.
- 6:32Speaker 1: We wiped it up. Also like on on Good Morning
- 6:35Speaker 1: Football here like finally a good Thursday night game. Finally
- 6:38Speaker 1: you get Bengals Ravens. But to lose Mark Andrews, to
- 6:41Speaker 1: lose Joe Burrow, Lamar goes to the Odell goes down
- 6:45Speaker 1: on the shoulder. That was a brutal one for that one,
- 6:49Speaker 1: all right. One of the reasons everyone loves our back
- 6:52Speaker 1: and forth in our banter, Aaron, is that we don't
- 6:55Speaker 1: just talk football. We talk a lot of things. I
- 6:58Speaker 1: saw a show you need to seek. It's called Here
- 7:01Speaker 1: We Are. It is a Sondheim mu sick goal slash
- 7:07Speaker 1: show that is running for the next couple of months
- 7:10Speaker 1: over at the Shed, which is on the West side
- 7:14Speaker 1: basically by Hudson Yards, in a really cool space. And
- 7:18Speaker 1: it's Bobby Cannavale, David Hyde Pierce, this woman MICHAELA Diamond
- 7:23Speaker 1: who's got an insane voice. We talk a lot about theater,
- 7:27Speaker 1: you and me. This is the only podcast that does
- 7:30Speaker 1: a crossover of NFL football and theater talk. And Jason,
- 7:33Speaker 1: I know your daughter's a thespian as well, and you
- 7:36Speaker 1: love the arts. This show was tremendous.
- 7:40Speaker 2: It also features possibly my favorite vocalist on Broadway right now,
- 7:44Speaker 2: Amber Gray okay who originated Persephone in Hadestown most recently,
- 7:49Speaker 2: and I I remember hearing the recording of her on
- 7:54Speaker 2: Great Comment and just being like this, this woman's voice
- 7:57Speaker 2: is unreal. I mean, we've had that conversation too, like
- 8:00Speaker 2: favorite vocalists, and Amber Gray is like, she's.
- 8:03Speaker 1: On the list. I cannot this show. So it's not
- 8:05Speaker 1: on Broadway, so it's kind of cool. It's got a cool,
- 8:07Speaker 1: funky feel to it. It wasn't like the old Broadway
- 8:10Speaker 1: blue hair crowd. I went in and I felt like
- 8:11Speaker 1: I was like at a cool event. So Sondheim wrote
- 8:15Speaker 1: this musical or started putting the piece together. I'm gonna
- 8:18Speaker 1: probably watch the story. I was reading up on it afterwards.
- 8:20Speaker 1: And he's working with these two other guys and he
- 8:22Speaker 1: passes away it's the last work of Sondheim, and it
- 8:24Speaker 1: had never been put together as a show. And these
- 8:28Speaker 1: guys used the impetus of two films, two seventies films
- 8:31Speaker 1: that are absurdists or surrealist films, and they used that
- 8:34Speaker 1: inspiration with the Sondheim and they put together this show.
- 8:37Speaker 1: If you're in New York, I'm telling you see it.
- 8:39Speaker 1: It's funny as hell. It's got a bigger message, obviously,
- 8:42Speaker 1: and the performances are out of this world. And I've
- 8:45Speaker 1: gotten to know Connavali a little bit, so we're texting
- 8:47Speaker 1: and he's talking to me whatever. He's like, calm, you're
- 8:49Speaker 1: gonna love it. I did not expect him in this role.
- 8:51Speaker 1: He's fantastic. And if you're a Bobby kint of Valley fan, like,
- 8:54Speaker 1: he's one of the greatest actors, and he's a great dude,
- 8:56Speaker 1: and he lives in Brooklyn and he's all the stuff
- 8:58Speaker 1: that I love. He's fantastic in this And guess who
- 9:01Speaker 1: I'm sitting next to as I get there with my wife,
- 9:03Speaker 1: say next to one of my favorite actresses of all time.
- 9:06Speaker 1: And I did have the courage to say a single
- 9:07Speaker 1: word because I was just being a polite gentleman. Laura
- 9:10Speaker 1: Lenni is sitting next to me. Wow, you didn't see
- 9:12Speaker 1: that coming. No, And Laura Lennie is cackling, laughing, loving
- 9:15Speaker 1: the show. And then it turns out not only was
- 9:17Speaker 1: Laura Lennie there, but like several other luminaries of this
- 9:20Speaker 1: is like one of those deals where it's like a
- 9:22Speaker 1: New York thing right now to go see this show.
- 9:24Speaker 1: So here we are. I think it's on for a
- 9:26Speaker 1: couple of months.
- 9:26Speaker 2: If you're in until January twenty first.
- 9:29Speaker 1: I cannot suggest it enough. Go see it at the Shed.
- 9:33Speaker 1: I'm the only podcaster slash morning show host who not
- 9:38Speaker 1: only will talk to you about Marquez Valdez Scantling's drops,
- 9:41Speaker 1: but in the same monologue we'll talk about MICHAELA Diamond
- 9:45Speaker 1: and her work in Parade and why she's so fantastic
- 9:47Speaker 1: in this show.
- 9:48Speaker 2: I actually thought you were about to talk about. On Saturday,
- 9:50Speaker 2: we went and saw Here Lies Love on Broadway.
- 9:52Speaker 1: That that David Byrne one.
- 9:53Speaker 2: Yes, it closes on November twenty sixth. It was great.
- 9:58Speaker 2: I was just telling Jason beforehand it is very non
- 10:02Speaker 2: traditional and that there is a portion of the audience
- 10:05Speaker 2: on the floor with stages around you and it's like
- 10:08Speaker 2: a club. It means David Byrne and Fat Boy Slim
- 10:11Speaker 2: and there's that involved. Okay, and then the stages on
- 10:15Speaker 2: the floor move and rotate, so as you're there, the
- 10:18Speaker 2: show is going on and there are attendance with like
- 10:21Speaker 2: air traffic controller wands moving you, saying like, okay, you
- 10:25Speaker 2: got to start moving this way because this stage is
- 10:27Speaker 2: going to start rotating here and now all of you
- 10:29Speaker 2: can get up here, and then you're dancing a lot.
- 10:31Speaker 1: It was.
- 10:31Speaker 2: It was a very like set wise, one of the
- 10:34Speaker 2: most interesting shows I've seen. It's it's all about Emelda Marcos.
- 10:39Speaker 2: So a story that in many ways is.
- 10:42Speaker 1: All I know about Amelda Marcos is that she stole
- 10:44Speaker 1: the shoes?
- 10:45Speaker 2: Right?
- 10:46Speaker 3: Is that?
- 10:46Speaker 1: Is that covered in this thing? Does she have an
- 10:48Speaker 1: amazing story? All I know is she stole shoes in
- 10:50Speaker 1: the country corner and she had stolen all these shoes.
- 10:54Speaker 2: It would be too long to get into for the podcast,
- 10:57Speaker 2: but a very complicated history. And the show is great,
- 11:01Speaker 2: and I think only five more days of shows. So
- 11:05Speaker 2: if you hear this beforehand and you can get it
- 11:07Speaker 2: to see it. If not, the cast album is on
- 11:09Speaker 2: streaming everywhere and everything. So that was a great one too,
- 11:11Speaker 2: And I thought you were about to say that you
- 11:13Speaker 2: had just seen that too. Another here something something.
- 11:16Speaker 1: Yeah, awesome. Our podcast guest is Great Hans is a
- 11:21Speaker 1: longtime NFL employee who has worked in a lot of
- 11:23Speaker 1: different parts of the organization. And I just think he's
- 11:26Speaker 1: got a great perspective and he's got a great way
- 11:28Speaker 1: about him, and he's pretty proud about what they're going
- 11:30Speaker 1: to show us on Amazon on Friday. He was one
- 11:32Speaker 1: of the many minds who came together and really urged
- 11:35Speaker 1: to make this thing happen. I think it is pretty
- 11:37Speaker 1: different Friday NFL football. I don't have a long memory
- 11:40Speaker 1: of any games on Fridays, and especially on the holiday
- 11:43Speaker 1: weekend sandwich between the Thursday slate which has three games,
- 11:46Speaker 1: the Sunday slate, and of course the Monday slate. With
- 11:48Speaker 1: no further ado, let's get to our guest. He's the
- 11:55Speaker 1: NFL's executive vice president of Media Distribution. He leads the
- 11:58Speaker 1: league's overall media strategy and negotiations for live game rights,
- 12:03Speaker 1: manages the league's broadcast department, and he oversees the league's
- 12:06Speaker 1: owned and operated media assets, which are NFL Network, NFL Digital,
- 12:10Speaker 1: NFL Films, and he's also one of the architects and
- 12:14Speaker 1: brains behind Friday's Black Friday Amazon game. Hans Schroder Welcome
- 12:19Speaker 1: to the season with Peter Schrager.
- 12:21Speaker 3: Thanks, Peter, It's good to be here. Long time since
- 12:23Speaker 3: I've seen you. No hoodie today, So, you know, a
- 12:26Speaker 3: little disappointed in that.
- 12:27Speaker 1: You know, we do Good Morning Football in a studio
- 12:30Speaker 1: in New York, and we do it for the three
- 12:31Speaker 1: other hosts, and we kind of we don't realize that
- 12:33Speaker 1: people are actually watching. So w and I wear a
- 12:35Speaker 1: crumpled up hoodie and I'm sitting there with a zipper on.
- 12:38Speaker 1: I don't really think that the NFL League OFLFIC is
- 12:40Speaker 1: actually watching.
- 12:41Speaker 3: I like it. You know, we're trying to get younger
- 12:42Speaker 3: with our fans or whatever. I like the hoodie. It
- 12:44Speaker 3: reminds me of that. So it's it.
- 12:47Speaker 1: Let's last night's Monday night football game. We're filming. We're
- 12:49Speaker 1: recording this on Tuesday morning. Like I said this, I
- 12:52Speaker 1: don't work for ESPN. It felt big. The broadcast felt big.
- 12:56Speaker 1: Two different sideline reporters, there were four K cameras, There
- 13:01Speaker 1: was slow mo, there was drones, there was Maning cast,
- 13:05Speaker 1: it felt like a Super Bowl pre Did you get
- 13:07Speaker 1: that feeling watching the game as well, that like, okay,
- 13:09Speaker 1: the big games, we do have a tendency to put
- 13:12Speaker 1: the way to the league behind it, and these networks
- 13:14Speaker 1: know that, hey, we're gonna put the best product forward.
- 13:16Speaker 3: Yeah. Look, I think every year we go into the
- 13:19Speaker 3: scheduling process and you know, there's a number of great matchups,
- 13:22Speaker 3: you know, a number of great stories we're trying to
- 13:24Speaker 3: make sure we get surfaced, but there's always a handful
- 13:27Speaker 3: of games that really rise to the top. And a
- 13:30Speaker 3: Super Bowl rematch, I think I read somewhere, you know,
- 13:33Speaker 3: surprisingly it's only happened like nine or ten times. Nine
- 13:36Speaker 3: times nine times, I think I was right. So you know,
- 13:38Speaker 3: we knew this was going to be a key one.
- 13:40Speaker 3: And you know, the interesting things that we've done over
- 13:42Speaker 3: the last couple of years with our partners all doing
- 13:45Speaker 3: such a great job, you know, and especially on the
- 13:48Speaker 3: Disney side, continuing to build Monday Night Football again, to
- 13:52Speaker 3: use the simulcast and the reach on ABC to add
- 13:54Speaker 3: the Manning cast. That's been great for us because now
- 13:58Speaker 3: we really have, you know, homes for these great games
- 14:01Speaker 3: across any of our packages, and we know whoever gets
- 14:03Speaker 3: that game will do an unbelievable job building it, promoting it,
- 14:07Speaker 3: making it feel like you said, like it's it's different.
- 14:10Speaker 3: Also should and so you know, we we allow a
- 14:13Speaker 3: lot more flexibility in the scheduling process because those games
- 14:16Speaker 3: can go to a number of outlets. This year, the
- 14:18Speaker 3: schedules we really liked ended up showing this Philly Casey
- 14:22Speaker 3: rematch on Monday Night Football, and so we loved it
- 14:26Speaker 3: and and ESPN said, you know, look, if you give
- 14:28Speaker 3: it to us, well we'll blow the doors out. And
- 14:30Speaker 3: they did. And you know it was texting with Burt
- 14:32Speaker 3: Magnus last night at ESPN from the game from the field,
- 14:35Speaker 3: he said, this feels like a super Bowl. It feels
- 14:37Speaker 3: really really big. You know, Joe and Troy are awesome.
- 14:41Speaker 3: The environment case is an environment. It's just an awesome
- 14:44Speaker 3: place to see a game, and then the game and
- 14:46Speaker 3: all these elements and the drama and sort of the
- 14:48Speaker 3: back and forth, like you know, so, yeah, what a way,
- 14:52Speaker 3: you know, midway through the season, maybe a little bit beyond,
- 14:54Speaker 3: to have this teenpole and then a tempole that kicks
- 14:57Speaker 3: into what is shaping up to be an awesome weekend
- 15:00Speaker 3: of football over Thanksgiving. Let's go all throughout the weekend.
- 15:03Speaker 3: You can just be incredible.
- 15:05Speaker 1: All the networks are like diving in full bore on
- 15:08Speaker 1: this and you start off. I'll be shameless and say,
- 15:11Speaker 1: we start off a good morning football on Thursday morning
- 15:13Speaker 1: on this day.
- 15:14Speaker 3: We're starting off.
- 15:16Speaker 1: Yeah, that's it, We're just setting the table. There we go,
- 15:18Speaker 1: and then Fox has their whole pre can.
- 15:20Speaker 3: Sure you just got to hang with Kyle for way
- 15:21Speaker 3: too long.
- 15:23Speaker 1: Three hours too many. No, Kyle has been great. We
- 15:25Speaker 1: always it's like Kyle's a family member now because we can.
- 15:28Speaker 3: Just for one second, I have to say this, and
- 15:32Speaker 3: you know, Jamie's great, Jason's great, Kyle is great, But
- 15:37Speaker 3: really you're the puzzle I wanted to solve Like that.
- 15:40Speaker 3: That's the line he went with. I hope you guys
- 15:43Speaker 3: pulled him aside. I mean, he was so proud of himself.
- 15:46Speaker 1: So if you're not, if you're not, okay. So Kyle
- 15:47Speaker 1: goes on Wheel of Fortune. Vana White is there. I
- 15:49Speaker 1: think Vana White is miked up. I don't think I've
- 15:52Speaker 1: ever heard Vana White really speak on Wheel of Fortune.
- 15:54Speaker 1: Kyle takes his shot and he says, my wife is here,
- 15:57Speaker 1: so he like catches at that and says, Vanna, you're
- 15:59Speaker 1: my boyhood crush and you were the puzzle, the puzzle
- 16:03Speaker 1: I always wanted to solve, and say Jack was hilarious.
- 16:05Speaker 1: Jack's like, really that's the line, and Kyle's like, I
- 16:08Speaker 1: don't know, just came to me. You know, Kyle, I
- 16:10Speaker 1: know Kyle. He had written that line. He flew seven
- 16:12Speaker 1: hours to California, he practiced it in the mirror sixteen times.
- 16:16Speaker 1: He went out there script and it It actually was
- 16:19Speaker 1: pretty good line.
- 16:20Speaker 3: It was a really good A guy that likes to
- 16:22Speaker 3: act like SPACCOLEI usually has his own work done.
- 16:24Speaker 1: He's rolling ahead, but that is it. He does act
- 16:26Speaker 1: like Spaccoley, but he has that hours and days of
- 16:29Speaker 1: planning going into that line.
- 16:30Speaker 3: But you know what's good. It was I appreciate his
- 16:32Speaker 3: topical too, like you know, the puzzle we wanted to
- 16:34Speaker 3: solve this year. We can talk a little bit about
- 16:35Speaker 3: Black Friday, and that's been a puzzle of ours too,
- 16:37Speaker 3: like we roll into it or whatever. But I had to.
- 16:40Speaker 3: I couldn't use this opportunity and not sort of give
- 16:43Speaker 3: And it was funny, laughing so hard at home.
- 16:45Speaker 1: He's the best and in the next morning, Uh, you know,
- 16:48Speaker 1: I'm flipping through the New York Posts and I see
- 16:50Speaker 1: an article since NFL Analyst or whatever they titled him,
- 16:53Speaker 1: tell Spann ol White, she is the puzzle. I'm like, yes,
- 16:56Speaker 1: we made the post, and for all the right reasons, Kyle, But.
- 16:59Speaker 3: But you know the other thing. We can't before we
- 17:00Speaker 3: move on, can't get too far away. He misses the anchor.
- 17:03Speaker 1: Man, I know he misses the answer man like.
- 17:06Speaker 3: That still on him. I wanted to there, so.
- 17:09Speaker 1: I did Celebrity Jeopardy a few weeks early. I did, and.
- 17:12Speaker 3: See this, Maybe I should have done my homework.
- 17:15Speaker 1: I don't live in I don't live in Westchester. You guys,
- 17:17Speaker 1: there's a little like circuit of the guys who outside
- 17:20Speaker 1: of it where I am. I did valiantly. I came
- 17:24Speaker 1: in second place. I got Final Jeopardy right. It was awesome.
- 17:26Speaker 1: I lost to Mira Sorvina, who is a Harvard grad
- 17:30Speaker 1: MENSA member apparently didn't learn that until Affirst did great.
- 17:33Speaker 1: But I got the daily doubles wrong, and Kyle the
- 17:36Speaker 1: next day was very complimentary. I made a lot of
- 17:38Speaker 1: money for charity. We had a blast. Was good, but
- 17:40Speaker 1: he kept on digging me a little bit on these
- 17:42Speaker 1: daily doubles, these two questions. One of them was, uh,
- 17:45Speaker 1: this author wrote Portnoy's complaint, would you know that who
- 17:49Speaker 1: is put you on the spot, Philip Roth, I didn't.
- 17:51Speaker 1: I didn't, I didn't have it. I didn't get it. Great, fine, wrong.
- 17:55Speaker 1: Kyle gets an Anchorman question, a movie quote, which is
- 17:58Speaker 1: so wheelhouse for him.
- 17:59Speaker 3: There, sure, what are the ones from the cannon?
- 18:02Speaker 1: And like that is like you know, Urban Outfitters has
- 18:05Speaker 1: shirts with that boy that escalated quick and he got
- 18:08Speaker 1: it wrong.
- 18:09Speaker 3: So it's tough.
- 18:10Speaker 1: One hundred and sixty nine thousand dollars for charity Kyle
- 18:12Speaker 1: raised for Make a Wish very good. Got the question wrong.
- 18:16Speaker 3: Well, you guys are both were awesome for doing that.
- 18:18Speaker 3: We love and a lot of fun.
- 18:20Speaker 1: So it was good.
- 18:21Speaker 3: It was fun to watch. So back to thanks Kith.
- 18:23Speaker 1: So we'll do Good Morning Football. Then the pregame shows.
- 18:25Speaker 1: Fox is actually sending their pregame show to New York,
- 18:27Speaker 1: which I think is cool. So you're gonna have the
- 18:29Speaker 1: whole Fox pregame show in New York City live from
- 18:32Speaker 1: the parade. And then we kick off and it's Fox
- 18:35Speaker 1: in Detroit. Lions versus Packers. Then we have CBS Commanders
- 18:40Speaker 1: versus Cowboys, and then you have the nightcap with Seahawks
- 18:43Speaker 1: versus forty nine Ers. I thought essentially all three of
- 18:45Speaker 1: those games have like pretty major musical acts at halftime.
- 18:49Speaker 1: So it's not just football. We love our football. I
- 18:52Speaker 1: feel like we're making this into broadening the horizons. I
- 18:55Speaker 1: don't know if that's and it's not brand new that
- 18:57Speaker 1: we've done halftime acts, but I don't think I've remembered
- 19:00Speaker 1: three halftime acts during the Thanksgiving games. Maybe one.
- 19:03Speaker 3: Look, it's such a unique day, and it's unique in ways,
- 19:06Speaker 3: and you know, taking a step back, you look at
- 19:08Speaker 3: the Thanksgiving weekend and for years across this country it's
- 19:13Speaker 3: been about friends, family, and football, and you know, that's
- 19:17Speaker 3: just increased each of those variables. It's really sort of
- 19:20Speaker 3: almost you know, as important as the December holidays. To
- 19:24Speaker 3: many people in this country. It's a chance to get together,
- 19:26Speaker 3: make families get together, get together for an extended period
- 19:29Speaker 3: of time, and really enjoy being together, which I think
- 19:32Speaker 3: post pandemic, there's an element there that I think people
- 19:35Speaker 3: are truly appreciating even more. And then what we're excited
- 19:38Speaker 3: about is a football aspect that's now layering on top
- 19:41Speaker 3: of that. And it's not just us, it's at all
- 19:43Speaker 3: levels of football, which we love and celebrate. You got
- 19:45Speaker 3: high school still happening, you have college God, it's going
- 19:48Speaker 3: to be a huge one. An arbor at nowt on Saturday,
- 19:51Speaker 3: which is just going to be incredible, right, But you know,
- 19:55Speaker 3: you look at what it's become from the NFL, where
- 19:57Speaker 3: the tradition's always been there in Detroit and in Dallas
- 19:59Speaker 3: and through the weekend, but it's just continued to grow.
- 20:02Speaker 3: I mean last year what did Giants Cowboys did forty
- 20:04Speaker 3: two and.
- 20:05Speaker 1: Most regular season game and his history.
- 20:08Speaker 3: And history and so for us, you know, we just
- 20:11Speaker 3: think we can can build on it and fill out
- 20:13Speaker 3: the weekend. And you know, before we even get to
- 20:16Speaker 3: Black Friday, you just look at the Sunday slate that
- 20:18Speaker 3: we've had. You have Pittsburgh Cincinnati anchoring that one o'clock
- 20:22Speaker 3: window in a pretty meaningful way.
- 20:25Speaker 1: Denver Cleveland's a big game.
- 20:26Speaker 3: Denver Cleveland that was a big I mean, there's a
- 20:28Speaker 3: lot of great games throughout sprinkled throughout the day, but
- 20:31Speaker 3: just you know, you look at some of those games
- 20:32Speaker 3: that are really and Jacksonville Houston. Let's talk about the CJ.
- 20:35Speaker 3: Stroud story for a second. Man, Like, and I think
- 20:37Speaker 3: they beat Jacksonville the first two day, so like that
- 20:40Speaker 3: game's going to be fast, game is going to be intense.
- 20:42Speaker 3: And it rolls into then you know, a couple of
- 20:44Speaker 3: good late afternoon games, but really Buffalo and Philly. You know,
- 20:47Speaker 3: Buffalo like coming coming back off the heels of the
- 20:50Speaker 3: wind on Sunday, and really, you know, a stretch of
- 20:52Speaker 3: great for twenty five games we have ahead of us
- 20:55Speaker 3: for the next little bit, rolling into Baltimore and.
- 20:57Speaker 1: Charge that Baltimore Chargers game, which Chargers kind of feeling
- 21:00Speaker 1: like he's on the brink a little bit. Raven's finally
- 21:02Speaker 1: the one seed.
- 21:02Speaker 3: So and then you end up with the NFC North,
- 21:04Speaker 3: which you know, the Bears. Know I've had up and
- 21:07Speaker 3: down a lot of injuries with fields, but you end
- 21:08Speaker 3: up with a really strong Black and Blue division. The
- 21:11Speaker 3: great story with the Dobs. Dobbs in Minnesota, by the way,
- 21:16Speaker 3: who should have gone to Princeton played football talk, Yeah,
- 21:19Speaker 3: last minute switched to Tennessee. So you know, okay, it
- 21:22Speaker 3: happened to occasionally, you know, but you know, but uh
- 21:26Speaker 3: so it's great. So like that weekend of all these games,
- 21:28Speaker 3: all this football is awesome, So how can we make
- 21:31Speaker 3: it better? Yeah? How can we make it bigger? Well?
- 21:32Speaker 1: I remember what was It was the hardball ball the
- 21:34Speaker 1: first time before the super Bowl. That was the first
- 21:35Speaker 1: Thanksgiving night game and I was in that building. I
- 21:37Speaker 1: covered it as a reporter going into Baltimore and it
- 21:41Speaker 1: was same thing, and that was a major deal, Like
- 21:43Speaker 1: we're going to do football on Thanksgiving evening. And then
- 21:45Speaker 1: that becomes now a second nature. Everyone just assumes that
- 21:48Speaker 1: where did the Amazon Black Friday idea come to be?
- 21:52Speaker 1: And has this been brewing for a while or was
- 21:55Speaker 1: this Amazon coming to the table to you being like, hey,
- 21:57Speaker 1: give us the NFL, we'll also put together something and
- 21:59Speaker 1: we'll kind of we're the face of commerce. Let's put
- 22:02Speaker 1: together a Black Friday game.
- 22:04Speaker 3: Yeah. You know, as we went into the last cycle
- 22:07Speaker 3: of deals, so sometime probably early in twenty twenty, we
- 22:12Speaker 3: did a lot of work starting to look at a
- 22:14Speaker 3: number of different things. What an expanded season could look like,
- 22:18Speaker 3: you know, what type of game inventory we'd want to
- 22:20Speaker 3: take back from our partners, what new windows we could build,
- 22:23Speaker 3: how do we extend Thursday Night as an example and
- 22:26Speaker 3: build that into a bigger, broader window. And in midst
- 22:29Speaker 3: of the sort of noodling, the idea of, hey, should
- 22:32Speaker 3: we look at Black Friday as a day? You know,
- 22:35Speaker 3: it's become again such a a ten pole day on
- 22:39Speaker 3: the calendar, and it's coming off now a day that
- 22:41Speaker 3: the NFL just dominates on the Thursday of Thanksgiving. Is
- 22:44Speaker 3: there an opportunity to feel that college is still so
- 22:46Speaker 3: strong on Saturday? You got a bunch of high school
- 22:49Speaker 3: Friday Night, you have some college Friday Night, can college
- 22:52Speaker 3: Friday throughout the day, but you know, college is almost
- 22:56Speaker 3: more more of their bigger games to Saturday, and some
- 22:59Speaker 3: of those traditional rivalries aren't on Black Friday quite as much.
- 23:02Speaker 3: There's an up Hey, is that something we should look at?
- 23:04Speaker 3: And then we got into the deal process us We said, hey,
- 23:08Speaker 3: you know, we're sort of seeing and having these conversations
- 23:10Speaker 3: with everybody across the table, and we started talking to Amazon,
- 23:14Speaker 3: who had been our partner on the tricast and been
- 23:16Speaker 3: part of Thursday Night, but the not the primary distributor.
- 23:20Speaker 3: And he started saying, well, Amazon, okay, we got the
- 23:22Speaker 3: biggest commerce platform in the entire world. Black Friday that's
- 23:26Speaker 3: their biggest day of the entire year. You know, these
- 23:31Speaker 3: things seem like they fit pretty well together. And so
- 23:34Speaker 3: in the process of that, I think, you know, a
- 23:36Speaker 3: lot of conversations all the way up to the top
- 23:39Speaker 3: sides of both organizations, but I think a lot of
- 23:41Speaker 3: momentum really started to build around there, and Hey, this
- 23:45Speaker 3: is something that I think could be really transformational for
- 23:47Speaker 3: both sides, and not just about adding another game window,
- 23:52Speaker 3: but also how we do something unique. How we create
- 23:55Speaker 3: a new window, a new ten poll, how do we
- 23:57Speaker 3: have a bigger impact, How do we bring more elements in,
- 23:59Speaker 3: How do we change the game experience a little bit
- 24:02Speaker 3: more than what a typical game is. How do we
- 24:03Speaker 3: have a bigger impact you know on Thursday night for
- 24:06Speaker 3: good and otherwise? And so those elements all sort of
- 24:10Speaker 3: wrapped in and I think said hey, and Amazon came
- 24:13Speaker 3: to said, hey, we really want to do this too,
- 24:15Speaker 3: and we think we can make it bigger and we
- 24:17Speaker 3: think we can deliver on all those all those objectives,
- 24:20Speaker 3: and so it became part of the deal and sort
- 24:22Speaker 3: of part of the deal that we said, hey, you're one.
- 24:25Speaker 3: We have enough to get out of the box with.
- 24:26Speaker 3: We have enough to focus on the fair way and
- 24:30Speaker 3: deliver against and you know, then we got through the
- 24:33Speaker 3: end of last year, and we got through around this
- 24:35Speaker 3: time last year and said, hey, you know, this looks
- 24:38Speaker 3: like this idea still resonates, still thinks it makes sense.
- 24:40Speaker 3: When we saw the results of the Cowboys, Giants and
- 24:42Speaker 3: strong leadership across all three games, quite frankly and said,
- 24:46Speaker 3: you know, we got to the off season, this is
- 24:48Speaker 3: the time. You know, we feel really good about the
- 24:50Speaker 3: awesome start Amazon had last year. This is a way
- 24:54Speaker 3: to sort of really take that and extend it and
- 24:56Speaker 3: build on it. And so pretty quickly into the off
- 24:59Speaker 3: season realized this is going to be what we add
- 25:01Speaker 3: to it. And so we're excited and we're excited and divisional,
- 25:04Speaker 3: you know, it's interesting with the games, especially on Thursday
- 25:07Speaker 3: and into Friday. They're all interesting too because they're all
- 25:09Speaker 3: divisional games, right, and those divisional teams know each other,
- 25:13Speaker 3: you know, they've scouted each other. You know, in short weeks,
- 25:15Speaker 3: you tend to get some of the best games from
- 25:17Speaker 3: those divisional sides that sort of know each other a
- 25:19Speaker 3: little bit better, a little bit more intimately than maybe
- 25:22Speaker 3: two other teams that are on the calendar.
- 25:24Speaker 1: When you guys agree to do the Amazon Black Friday
- 25:27Speaker 1: game in the second year of Amazon, you go to
- 25:30Speaker 1: these league meetings and the schedule releases coming in May,
- 25:33Speaker 1: and the league meetings are usually in March. I know,
- 25:34Speaker 1: there's behind closed doors and there's also several zooms and calls,
- 25:38Speaker 1: and all different networks will say, hey, if possible, here's
- 25:41Speaker 1: our ranking system, here are the games we want, if
- 25:43Speaker 1: there's any way, and you guys kind of work with
- 25:45Speaker 1: the networks and say, well, we're going to give ESPN
- 25:48Speaker 1: that Monday night game, but then Fox you're gonna get
- 25:50Speaker 1: Eagles forty nine ers and CBS, don't worry, you're gonna
- 25:52Speaker 1: get this awesome you know, Bill's Eagles game. You spread
- 25:55Speaker 1: to love a little bit.
- 25:56Speaker 3: Where does the.
- 25:57Speaker 1: Friday Black Amazon on the Thanksgiving Day game and NFL
- 26:00Speaker 1: kickoff and these huge Sunday night Where was that in
- 26:03Speaker 1: kind of the pecking order? And was that their first
- 26:05Speaker 1: pick of like, hey, that's our biggest game.
- 26:07Speaker 3: Yeah, look, I think you're absolutely right. We go to
- 26:10Speaker 3: all partners and you know, one of the data points
- 26:13Speaker 3: that's really helpful for us is to get our partner's
- 26:15Speaker 3: perspectives on how they view the top games of the year,
- 26:18Speaker 3: the games that may matter the most to them. Sometimes
- 26:21Speaker 3: it's not always the most marquee game. Sometimes they just
- 26:23Speaker 3: like a game better, they feel it fits better for
- 26:25Speaker 3: their network, their markets, their history, you know, if they've
- 26:30Speaker 3: covered that game the past couple of years, where they
- 26:32Speaker 3: just want it right. And so clearly, you know, we
- 26:35Speaker 3: thought about Black Friday in a way that was very
- 26:38Speaker 3: much at the top of the list that it's a
- 26:40Speaker 3: new window, it's a window we want to make sure
- 26:43Speaker 3: we put our best foot forward and we schedule a
- 26:45Speaker 3: game that we think is going to be a very
- 26:48Speaker 3: strong matchup. Look, you never know, we you know, fortunately,
- 26:52Speaker 3: as of this point in the year, we haven't flexed
- 26:54Speaker 3: the game in any of our packages yet and so
- 26:56Speaker 3: maybe the crystal ball this year is a little bit
- 26:58Speaker 3: better than than even other years where Mike North and
- 27:01Speaker 3: Howard and Annie and Charlotte, the scheduling team, you know
- 27:05Speaker 3: what they do for five months, you know, really from
- 27:07Speaker 3: January through mid May of NonStop, six sometimes seven days
- 27:12Speaker 3: a week, going to all the permutations to schedule. They
- 27:14Speaker 3: work pretty hard to make that crystal ball shine pretty bright.
- 27:18Speaker 3: And this year, you know, it's it's proven up and
- 27:20Speaker 3: we've had great stories, We've had some things we couldn't predict,
- 27:23Speaker 3: and and so you never know exactly how the matchup's
- 27:26Speaker 3: going to play out like you think it is. Certainly
- 27:28Speaker 3: this year when we went into the year, we're thinking, hey,
- 27:30Speaker 3: this is the Jets with Aaron Rodgers and coming in
- 27:32Speaker 3: against the Miami. That's going to be explained it. Yeah,
- 27:35Speaker 3: and there's been some turnover, there's some changes, the Jets
- 27:37Speaker 3: have gone through some ups and downs, but you know,
- 27:39Speaker 3: are still in the playoff hunt, still fighting for it. Now,
- 27:42Speaker 3: gonna have a new quarterback this week. You know, you
- 27:44Speaker 3: get the Dolphins, you know, with a chance to sort
- 27:48Speaker 3: of continue to beat some teams that are maybe perceived
- 27:51Speaker 3: as a little bit stronger teams and better teams and
- 27:53Speaker 3: then maybe some of their wins that people would hold
- 27:55Speaker 3: up to. So you know, look at the NFL is
- 27:58Speaker 3: a week to week leagues. I don't know how much
- 28:00Speaker 3: but stock you put into all that. But the idea
- 28:02Speaker 3: is we still think it's a really good matchup and
- 28:04Speaker 3: you know, anchored and centered right around New York when
- 28:07Speaker 3: you know, retail capital maybe a whole world to play
- 28:09Speaker 3: in a day that's going to have a lot of
- 28:11Speaker 3: retail themes to it. There's a lot I think we
- 28:13Speaker 3: can do adjacent to that. So we're super excited about
- 28:17Speaker 3: you know what, the Dolphins coming to the Jets is
- 28:19Speaker 3: going to be on Friday, and you know, again, we
- 28:21Speaker 3: can only set up so much and then at some
- 28:23Speaker 3: points the game itself. But we're hopeful that it's going
- 28:25Speaker 3: to be a great one.
- 28:26Speaker 1: I think it's pretty cool because a couple of years
- 28:28Speaker 1: ago they debuted the Nickelodeon game and that was a
- 28:32Speaker 1: huge success, and it was like, here's something that's a
- 28:33Speaker 1: little outside the box that you might not be typically
- 28:36Speaker 1: used to as an NFL fan, and oh wait, we
- 28:38Speaker 1: love it. This year the Falcons Jaguars on the Toy
- 28:41Speaker 1: Story broadcast, which a different audience, very well received. People
- 28:46Speaker 1: loved it. Now you have this Black Friday, They like,
- 28:49Speaker 1: is there a group here within your group of media
- 28:52Speaker 1: colleagues at the league office who are just constantly throwing
- 28:54Speaker 1: things at the wall saying, hey, what if we consider this?
- 28:56Speaker 1: What if we considered that? I feel like that's a
- 28:57Speaker 1: cool ideation process of we have the game, we know
- 29:00Speaker 1: it's amazing. Who else can we reach? How else can
- 29:03Speaker 1: we reach them? And then what avenues can we do it.
- 29:05Speaker 3: Yeah, Look, okay, I think the benefit we have is
- 29:08Speaker 3: we have a super talented team, not only directly in
- 29:11Speaker 3: the broadcast and media group and and the ideas that
- 29:15Speaker 3: get generated from that crew, but across the league. People
- 29:19Speaker 3: aren't afraid to throw ideas at us. I mean, it's
- 29:21Speaker 3: one of the things Commission really, one of his management
- 29:24Speaker 3: and leadership styles is constantly about innovation and evolution and
- 29:27Speaker 3: pushing forward. It's it's not so much what we've done,
- 29:29Speaker 3: it's what we can do and what's ahead of us.
- 29:31Speaker 3: And you sense that around here and there is now
- 29:34Speaker 3: we want to be smart. We want to be smart,
- 29:36Speaker 3: and we want to be thoughtful and where we experiment
- 29:38Speaker 3: and how we push. So a lot of work goes
- 29:41Speaker 3: into the evaluation and ultimately the execution of those ideas.
- 29:44Speaker 3: But you know, it just doesn't stop there. We have
- 29:46Speaker 3: great partners, you know, our partners bring us ideas, Our
- 29:49Speaker 3: partners push us on, Hey can we do this? Hey
- 29:52Speaker 3: can we do that? And we love that. We love that.
- 29:55Speaker 3: And you know other people, I think you've thrown a
- 29:56Speaker 3: few ideas, don't be shy there I about different ideas. So,
- 30:02Speaker 3: you know, a lot a lot of the work ultimately
- 30:03Speaker 3: is a prioritization, so what here is really going to
- 30:05Speaker 3: break through? And then the learnings we get out of
- 30:08Speaker 3: it to make sure you're really disciplined that over time,
- 30:10Speaker 3: you're not doing something to do something, you're doing something
- 30:12Speaker 3: to have an impact. And that's what we've seen, and
- 30:15Speaker 3: you mentioned a couple of those all broadcasts. Certainly, we
- 30:17Speaker 3: love what we've done with Nick, We love the toy story,
- 30:20Speaker 3: we love what you know. I think the Manning cast
- 30:22Speaker 3: have really grown. We love what Amazon's doing with Prime
- 30:25Speaker 3: Vision and that deep, cool predictive elements, you know, bringing
- 30:29Speaker 3: some AI and really inside the game and even going
- 30:32Speaker 3: to the All twenty ten all the broadcast was called Lebron.
- 30:36Speaker 3: Lebron's great. But you know it's not just some of
- 30:38Speaker 3: that stuff catches more of the attention. Some of the
- 30:40Speaker 3: stuff we're doing just to make the game more available
- 30:43Speaker 3: to different parts of our audience, you know, our Spanish
- 30:45Speaker 3: language broadcasts, especially as we add more Spanish broadcast distribution
- 30:49Speaker 3: on Telemundo ultimately now with Univision this year on Super
- 30:52Speaker 3: Bowl with CBS, and making sure we're giving our fans
- 30:56Speaker 3: on the screen they want the experience they want. That's
- 30:59Speaker 3: really important to us. And you know, there's some inertia
- 31:01Speaker 3: to overcome. There's some ways that hey, we've been doing
- 31:04Speaker 3: this for a long time that you got to break
- 31:06Speaker 3: through a little bit. But we're really excited and the
- 31:08Speaker 3: growth and the ways that people can now engage with
- 31:11Speaker 3: our content. What you've seen just with the launch of
- 31:13Speaker 3: NFL Plus, of taking network now where people can watch
- 31:17Speaker 3: you guys on any screen at any time, any place,
- 31:19Speaker 3: or at red Zone and Scott or what YouTube's done
- 31:22Speaker 3: with Sunday Ticket. You know, it's a world that we
- 31:25Speaker 3: all live in and see it every day that just
- 31:28Speaker 3: if you're a media consumer, you know how patterns and
- 31:31Speaker 3: habits are changing, and so we got to change with it.
- 31:33Speaker 3: And at times we can actually use our content to
- 31:36Speaker 3: drive that change, which is exciting.
- 31:37Speaker 1: One of the other cool things that you guys have
- 31:39Speaker 1: really leaned into the last few years, and I commend
- 31:41Speaker 1: you for it, is the complimentary stuff.
- 31:43Speaker 3: Now.
- 31:43Speaker 1: Obviously we have the all cast, but I'm talking partner
- 31:45Speaker 1: with Netflix and a show that was the number one
- 31:49Speaker 1: show this summer. I've told this story before. I was
- 31:51Speaker 1: on a flight to la and there is a young
- 31:55Speaker 1: woman with three kids and she's got her ear pods
- 31:58Speaker 1: in and she's watching Marcus Mariota on the quarterback and
- 32:02Speaker 1: she's tending to the three kids. But I don't Maybe
- 32:04Speaker 1: she's a diehardp maybe she's not. Maybe it's because it's
- 32:06Speaker 1: the number one trending thing on Netflix and she's like,
- 32:09Speaker 1: what is this. I'll click on this and learn more
- 32:10Speaker 1: about Mahomes and cousins. But between that and then I
- 32:13Speaker 1: see the press release about a Skydance documentary with Jerry Jones,
- 32:18Speaker 1: and I know that's in the works. Right now, it
- 32:20Speaker 1: feels like the NFL is Okay, We've got our game
- 32:22Speaker 1: and we're not going to touch it and it's going
- 32:24Speaker 1: to be pure, but there are other extensions we can
- 32:26Speaker 1: do and we're gonna We're gonna try, We're gonna go
- 32:28Speaker 1: for it.
- 32:28Speaker 3: Yeah, there's so many great stories to tell out there,
- 32:31Speaker 3: and Ross Ketover and Keith and Pat and the film's
- 32:35Speaker 3: team do such a Jess do such a great job.
- 32:38Speaker 3: But I don't think, you know, we just can't do
- 32:40Speaker 3: all of them. So we have this new partnership with Skydance,
- 32:42Speaker 3: and I think you'll start to three really over the
- 32:44Speaker 3: next couple of years, accelerate the amount of great content
- 32:49Speaker 3: we're able to produce about the NFL and all other sports.
- 32:51Speaker 3: You know, the goal there is to be the ultimate
- 32:53Speaker 3: sports studio across media, and I think they're on their
- 32:56Speaker 3: way to do that. And you're right, like we're just
- 32:59Speaker 3: starting to scratch the surface. And some of these other
- 33:01Speaker 3: forms non game stuff or you know, like like quarterback
- 33:05Speaker 3: getting onto those platforms. We know our fans are spending
- 33:07Speaker 3: those times. Sometimes, you know, it's about taking something like
- 33:10Speaker 3: the toy Story game that was available in ninety five countries.
- 33:13Speaker 3: I don't even like that, yeah, right, and trying to
- 33:15Speaker 3: get people to experience football in a different way, you know,
- 33:18Speaker 3: and sometimes about's going up beyond different parts of the game.
- 33:21Speaker 3: Like flag football now is a high school sport for
- 33:24Speaker 3: women in ten states I think around the country, and
- 33:26Speaker 3: it's going to double and it continues to grow at
- 33:29Speaker 3: astronomical rates. It's going to be in the Olympics in
- 33:33Speaker 3: twenty twenty eight, And so how can we cover that more?
- 33:35Speaker 3: You know, more people playing football is a great thing.
- 33:38Speaker 3: It's active, it's athletic, it learns how to be a team.
- 33:41Speaker 3: It's the life lessons you learn. So how can we
- 33:44Speaker 3: help drive that, Like it just gets so wide so
- 33:46Speaker 3: quick in such an exciting way, and a lot of
- 33:49Speaker 3: this means we're going to have some partners that are
- 33:51Speaker 3: there aren't our traditional partners, I mean, you know, and
- 33:54Speaker 3: the fun part in my twenty two years at the
- 33:56Speaker 3: league is generally, you know, we've added partners because people,
- 34:00Speaker 3: once they're in the NFL business, they want to stay
- 34:02Speaker 3: in the NFL business, and we find ways there's different
- 34:05Speaker 3: ways we can and slice our rights, cut our rights
- 34:08Speaker 3: to make sure that people don't want to stay, and
- 34:09Speaker 3: most do just given the uniqueness and the value I
- 34:12Speaker 3: think us, but also our partners, it's really important to have
- 34:15Speaker 3: partners that you know, are happy, partners that are that
- 34:17Speaker 3: are feeling like they're able to participate in the engage
- 34:21Speaker 3: with the excitement and the value creation around the product
- 34:24Speaker 3: that they do, which is awesome. Look a lot of
- 34:27Speaker 3: it we should just talk and take a step back.
- 34:29Speaker 3: What the game itself is just awesome still, you know,
- 34:33Speaker 3: I mean even with you know, the number of close games,
- 34:35Speaker 3: you know, field goal finish, whatever.
- 34:38Speaker 1: I think on a TV like I'm always in LA
- 34:41Speaker 1: for Fox's pregame on Sundays and I fly back on
- 34:44Speaker 1: Jet Blue and they have the games on the screen
- 34:46Speaker 1: and every single screen on the fight back where there
- 34:49Speaker 1: it be man, woman, child, whoever, it's NFL football, and
- 34:52Speaker 1: it's because it's great as a TV product as well.
- 34:55Speaker 1: I think it lends itself to the TV product as
- 34:57Speaker 1: much as any other sport, and the ratings bear that out.
- 35:00Speaker 3: Yeah, and look, I mean, you know, it's it's always tough,
- 35:02Speaker 3: and you obviously get a little bit bubbling you see
- 35:04Speaker 3: a Burrow go down or a you know, Aaron Rodgers,
- 35:08Speaker 3: but you know, to see some of these others, the CJ.
- 35:10Speaker 3: Stroud story is just incredible to see what Rock Purty's
- 35:13Speaker 3: doings again, Josh Doobbs, Like, you know, it's the fun
- 35:17Speaker 3: part is the game and the excitement on the game
- 35:20Speaker 3: allows these stories to evolve and allows these players to
- 35:23Speaker 3: step up, and it's just amazing. It's just awesome. Every week,
- 35:27Speaker 3: like the season's funny. You look down and you can't
- 35:30Speaker 3: believe you're already into week twelve. Yea, it feels like
- 35:32Speaker 3: we're in week four and we're here where it's end
- 35:34Speaker 3: of November and we're almost in the stretch of the playoffs.
- 35:37Speaker 1: From a macro standpoint, and you know, all the articles
- 35:39Speaker 1: and the trades would say that, you know, sport TV
- 35:42Speaker 1: is dying and there's a Hollywood strike in it, but
- 35:44Speaker 1: the football ratings remain pretty good and pretty robust, and
- 35:49Speaker 1: baseball's trying to figure out innovative ways to change their game,
- 35:52Speaker 1: and basketball is in the nd season tournament football's ratings.
- 35:56Speaker 1: Is there a I don't want to say, is there
- 35:58Speaker 1: a pride? But is there sort of a we're the
- 36:00Speaker 1: biggest show in town feeling here or do you guys
- 36:01Speaker 1: keep yourselves grounded and say, hey, that can all go
- 36:03Speaker 1: away in a second. We got to stay and just
- 36:05Speaker 1: treat this as if we're a small town team trying
- 36:07Speaker 1: to get into the game.
- 36:09Speaker 3: It's definitely more of the latter. Like you know, it's
- 36:11Speaker 3: a constant view of paranoid would be too strong a word.
- 36:15Speaker 3: You know, the quote out there only the paranoid survive.
- 36:17Speaker 3: I'm not sure it's paranoid. But there is a hyper focus. Again,
- 36:21Speaker 3: I go back all the way and from mmissioner on
- 36:24Speaker 3: down and Brian, who leads all of medium business for us,
- 36:26Speaker 3: you know, pushes on it, and just there's an ethos
- 36:29Speaker 3: to how can we continue to innovate, how can we
- 36:31Speaker 3: continue to evolve? And the product's great today, but there
- 36:34Speaker 3: have to be ways we can we can make it better.
- 36:36Speaker 3: And some stuff's very visible. Some stuff you see somebody
- 36:39Speaker 3: you know, you know. A few years ago, we made
- 36:41Speaker 3: did a bunch of research. We used to have five
- 36:44Speaker 3: breaks in a quarter, and that felt like a lot
- 36:47Speaker 3: of commercials. It's interested when we did a you know,
- 36:50Speaker 3: people may remember what we call the old double up
- 36:52Speaker 3: where there's a touchdown, commercial, took a commercial, came back,
- 36:56Speaker 3: kickoff commercial. You know that used to happen. I used
- 36:59Speaker 3: to have a lot throughout the year. And we found
- 37:02Speaker 3: we did a bunch of research and we found our
- 37:03Speaker 3: fans wanted less commercial breaks, but they didn't mind if
- 37:07Speaker 3: they were slightly long. Yeah, And so we went from
- 37:09Speaker 3: a two minute break to a two twenty and we
- 37:11Speaker 3: took five down to four. And it's really benefit of
- 37:15Speaker 3: the game all the way up to the Super Bowl
- 37:18Speaker 3: and the flexibility Now we're working with our partners and
- 37:20Speaker 3: sort of we're able to slide breaks between quarters. So
- 37:23Speaker 3: if there's a natural opportunity a lot of scoring in
- 37:25Speaker 3: one quarter, that's natural downtime, how can we take a
- 37:27Speaker 3: break there? Again, it gets back to what's the best
- 37:30Speaker 3: viewing experience, And by the way, not just for watching
- 37:32Speaker 3: it at home, but in the stadium too. The stadium
- 37:34Speaker 3: is still the best place to see a game. You
- 37:36Speaker 3: go to a game as a pure fan. The excitement,
- 37:38Speaker 3: the vibrancy, it's the drama, the patrick, it's just amazing.
- 37:41Speaker 3: But nobody wants to stand around there either. So, like
- 37:44Speaker 3: all those little things that may not catch as much
- 37:46Speaker 3: of the attention, how can we continue to make it better?
- 37:49Speaker 3: How can we continue to iterate We're going to keep
- 37:52Speaker 3: doing it, you know, and you know, we're fortunate to
- 37:55Speaker 3: have such a great game, great players, great athletes, great
- 37:58Speaker 3: coaches to work around, and so our job is just,
- 38:01Speaker 3: you know, how do we continue it to make it better?
- 38:08Speaker 1: Your story real quick? I find it cool. You just
- 38:10Speaker 1: said twenty two years of the league and kind of
- 38:13Speaker 1: an unorthodox path. You were working in Sydney, Australia at
- 38:16Speaker 1: one point and you made the jump to go from finance.
- 38:19Speaker 1: I would imagine it was in that world or insurance.
- 38:22Speaker 3: You tell me it was a football right, yeah, no,
- 38:24Speaker 3: it was, so you know, it's funny. I was the
- 38:26Speaker 3: son of a coach. My dad coached at West Point
- 38:28Speaker 3: at a fascinating time in the sixties. Paul Dietzel was
- 38:31Speaker 3: the head coach who won a national title at LSU,
- 38:34Speaker 3: then had Bill Parson. Well until you lived in a
- 38:36Speaker 3: triplex with Bill Parcells on one side and Bobby and
- 38:38Speaker 3: I on the other. But there's a cradle of coaches
- 38:41Speaker 3: with Ken Hatshield and Bill Battle and whatever. He then
- 38:44Speaker 3: went to be the head coach at the Coast Guard
- 38:46Speaker 3: Academy whereas Ad was autogram and then he came back
- 38:49Speaker 3: to West Point in the seventies, was there with you know,
- 38:54Speaker 3: with a number of other great coaches, with a basketball
- 38:56Speaker 3: coach named Coaches and otherwise so too, and then ended
- 38:59Speaker 3: up working for years for a coach he coach with
- 39:01Speaker 3: Bill Battle and retail licensing and apparel. So I was
- 39:05Speaker 3: an athlete, played and football out of fortune, playing up
- 39:08Speaker 3: through Princeton, and I always love sports. I always was
- 39:12Speaker 3: consumed by it. I did start my career off in
- 39:16Speaker 3: investment banking, sort of followed many of the others at
- 39:19Speaker 3: school down that path and was a remarkable way to
- 39:22Speaker 3: break into the professional world. Incredible experience learned a ton
- 39:26Speaker 3: got to travel as an athlete, didn't get to go
- 39:29Speaker 3: overseason college, so went over to Sydney for a while,
- 39:32Speaker 3: just incredible. Then went to an Internet company during the
- 39:35Speaker 3: first bubble in two thousand and two thousand and one,
- 39:37Speaker 3: asked Jeeves, now asked dot Com and brother randomly a
- 39:41Speaker 3: guy had left the NFL and went to work at
- 39:43Speaker 3: a small startup investment firm with a friend who I
- 39:46Speaker 3: met in Australia and said, the NFL is looking for somebody.
- 39:49Speaker 3: And you know, at that time, it was really much
- 39:51Speaker 3: more of a league. There wasn't that much turnover, that
- 39:54Speaker 3: many new spots, and you know, just so happened. I
- 39:58Speaker 3: was able to get the get And you know, I
- 40:01Speaker 3: always wanted to be in a career where I could
- 40:04Speaker 3: read the sports section first every morning, and that was
- 40:07Speaker 3: that was my job, better than the business section. Now
- 40:09Speaker 3: I read both. But so yeah, it's been great. It's
- 40:12Speaker 3: twenty two years. Got to spend the first four or
- 40:14Speaker 3: five working in all different parts of the league, international
- 40:18Speaker 3: to our stadium construction program, to revenue sharing, but always
- 40:23Speaker 3: with media as a part of that. And then got
- 40:25Speaker 3: asked in two thousand and five to come over and
- 40:26Speaker 3: work in the media business, help lead our deals and
- 40:29Speaker 3: our strategy, and then also incubate a bunch of different
- 40:32Speaker 3: digital businesses. So over that time and then now whatever
- 40:36Speaker 3: that is seventeen years later. Eighteen years later sort of
- 40:40Speaker 3: in the role get to still do and work on
- 40:43Speaker 3: things that are fun and enjoyable in a passion. You know,
- 40:46Speaker 3: if you what's saying, if you find something you're passionate about,
- 40:50Speaker 3: you never work another day in your life. So I'm
- 40:52Speaker 3: not sure that's exactly true. You know, we still work
- 40:54Speaker 3: pretty hard around here, but it is fun to work
- 40:57Speaker 3: on something you really love. So and you work with
- 40:59Speaker 3: great people and great people, you know, that's a fun
- 41:01Speaker 3: thing around here. And just as the job and the
- 41:03Speaker 3: roles of have grown both with in and across the
- 41:06Speaker 3: league and as well as you know with our partners,
- 41:08Speaker 3: just continuing to meet such great people and people that
- 41:11Speaker 3: push you and beat, people that challenge you, but also
- 41:15Speaker 3: create something, create something that is meaningful and has an
- 41:17Speaker 3: impact and you care about. It's really really fun.
- 41:20Speaker 1: Nick Cassario, the GM of the Texans, was in my
- 41:22Speaker 1: gast two weeks ago. Drew Petsing, the offensive coordinator of
- 41:25Speaker 1: the Cardinals. Guess Nick was working for I think Merrill Lynch.
- 41:31Speaker 1: Drew after was also he was working in finance and
- 41:34Speaker 1: something happened. He got an opportunity and he jumped at it.
- 41:36Speaker 1: And they said, we're sports people, we love it, and
- 41:39Speaker 1: we don't your leap. I mean, that had to be
- 41:41Speaker 1: a bold leap going from investment banking to saying, hey,
- 41:43Speaker 1: ask Jeeves, great the Internet, I'm gonna go work for
- 41:46Speaker 1: the shield. I mean, I can only imagine the courage
- 41:48Speaker 1: it took to jump and do that, but the excitement
- 41:50Speaker 1: as well.
- 41:50Speaker 3: Yeah, and look, it was it was fun. It was different,
- 41:53Speaker 3: and it was certainly a different track than many of
- 41:55Speaker 3: my peers were taking. But again, I think if you
- 41:58Speaker 3: stay with it and it's something you love and you
- 42:01Speaker 3: invest yourself in it, like, the rest sort of takes
- 42:04Speaker 3: care of itself. And so, you know, it's been a
- 42:07Speaker 3: good run. It's been really fun. I've been very very fortunate,
- 42:10Speaker 3: fortunate to work for great people, work with great people,
- 42:13Speaker 3: and fund that. Twenty two years in, it's still something
- 42:15Speaker 3: that you know, we're watching the you know, the games
- 42:19Speaker 3: over the weekend, and every game you're thinking about, Okay,
- 42:21Speaker 3: what's else I was on the schedule? Is that game
- 42:23Speaker 3: still should that game still be in that window or
- 42:26Speaker 3: that window? Or hey I saw this, Hey we can
- 42:28Speaker 3: do this better? Like and the team's awesome, you know,
- 42:31Speaker 3: the team, especially the broadcast team that I work with
- 42:34Speaker 3: most closely day to day. Now, Like those guys are
- 42:36Speaker 3: just every minute they're always looking, hey, what can we
- 42:38Speaker 3: do better? How can we make the experience of viewing better?
- 42:42Speaker 3: And so that's been a lot of fun.
- 42:43Speaker 1: A couple of rapid fire as we wrap this up,
- 42:45Speaker 1: and it's been awesome. Who do you hear from more
- 42:48Speaker 1: when it comes to complaints and winding the broadcast networks
- 42:51Speaker 1: or the owners really.
- 42:53Speaker 3: Neither okay, I would think like, why aren't.
- 42:55Speaker 1: We getting this get why are you how could you
- 42:57Speaker 1: not give us this primetime or the broadcasting How did
- 42:59Speaker 1: you give us this team in that game? When the
- 43:01Speaker 1: other guy, I feel like that has to be you're
- 43:03Speaker 1: the person they call to just complain and wind too.
- 43:06Speaker 3: No, oh, you know, look, I think first of all,
- 43:10Speaker 3: in Mike North does an incredible job on both sides.
- 43:14Speaker 3: On the scheduling side itself, which is really your question
- 43:16Speaker 3: is the course scheduling, managing and sort of setting There's
- 43:19Speaker 3: very few surprises people when they get their fund.
- 43:22Speaker 1: There's been a lot of conversations that lead to that
- 43:23Speaker 1: final schedule review.
- 43:24Speaker 3: And look, this year was another year. I mean most
- 43:26Speaker 3: years it's the case. We had five really happy partners
- 43:29Speaker 3: six with NFL Media and NFL Networks games. That was
- 43:33Speaker 3: it perfect for everybody? No, they probably wish maybe they
- 43:36Speaker 3: got one thing, but they were all super excited about
- 43:38Speaker 3: their schedules and proactively reached out, which they don't do,
- 43:41Speaker 3: and that's actually makes you feel good. Obviously, the games
- 43:44Speaker 3: need to play out like you think they do. And
- 43:46Speaker 3: then on the club and the ownership side, like again,
- 43:48Speaker 3: we put so much work into it. It takes a village.
- 43:52Speaker 3: It's not just the media and the broadcasting. We put
- 43:54Speaker 3: Donna Ponte in and football, Hey, is this a challenge
- 43:57Speaker 3: to put a team on a road here, then back
- 44:00Speaker 3: at home, then road there. Like all those things we changed.
- 44:03Speaker 3: The ownerships have been incredibly flexible and continue to evolve
- 44:08Speaker 3: to give us more tools and more flexibility to Some
- 44:11Speaker 3: clubs have some things in their schedule that when they
- 44:13Speaker 3: finally see it, they don't love. Absolutely. It's never perfect
- 44:16Speaker 3: and we feel that we own it and we feel
- 44:19Speaker 3: terrible when when we hear that. But I think you know,
- 44:23Speaker 3: those hopefully are much more the exception than the rule.
- 44:26Speaker 3: They definitely exist, and there's definitely things that we learn
- 44:28Speaker 3: from and we follow it away for next year and
- 44:30Speaker 3: say hey, and look, we've already learned, like this is
- 44:33Speaker 3: the first year of completely new media deals and TV
- 44:35Speaker 3: deals with the new format, you know, the away team
- 44:38Speaker 3: no longer what goes into what package, and that gave
- 44:42Speaker 3: us a lot of flexibility as we went into the year.
- 44:44Speaker 3: But we've already learned a lot going into that, and
- 44:47Speaker 3: we've learned about some things we may do a little
- 44:49Speaker 3: bit differently next time, already halfway through the year of
- 44:52Speaker 3: year one. And so that's sort of what makes the
- 44:54Speaker 3: job exciting is you sort of never have it all
- 44:56Speaker 3: figured out. There's always something more to think about. In Crack.
- 44:59Speaker 1: You're at all the NFL events, you broadcast a lot
- 45:01Speaker 1: of these, you guys are partners with them. Now, obviously
- 45:03Speaker 1: the super Bowl is the crude grad. It's everyone. It's
- 45:05Speaker 1: a one hundred and millions of people watching. I'm a
- 45:08Speaker 1: fan of Day three of the Draft, like that's my thing.
- 45:11Speaker 1: Other people love the combine, other people love kickoff week
- 45:14Speaker 1: and how we get that thing on? Hans Schroeder. What
- 45:16Speaker 1: is something that maybe isn't the headline, but something an
- 45:18Speaker 1: event on the NFL schedule that you love being a
- 45:21Speaker 1: part of or that you love seeing executed on television.
- 45:24Speaker 3: Well you hit on. I mean, I love the Draft
- 45:28Speaker 3: because I love college football, right, I love football at
- 45:31Speaker 3: all levels. You know, I love college football. I remember
- 45:33Speaker 3: watching aj Green play on like an ESPN high school
- 45:38Speaker 3: Labor Day weekend tournament when he was in high school
- 45:41Speaker 3: in South Carolina. So like I love football at all levels,
- 45:44Speaker 3: I love the Draft. I think the Draft is, you know,
- 45:46Speaker 3: three days of just pure football mersion, and the coverage
- 45:50Speaker 3: you guys give to me is exciting, and it's also
- 45:53Speaker 3: it's exciting for all thirty two, like it's a unique
- 45:55Speaker 3: thing and that all thirty two have reasons to be
- 45:57Speaker 3: excited and cover. It. Doesn't mean the Super Bowl is
- 46:00Speaker 3: not the pinnacle and amazing, right, But I look, I
- 46:03Speaker 3: think there's some things that we have ahead of us.
- 46:06Speaker 3: I think we can do more with the schedule. Lease,
- 46:08Speaker 3: like everybody knows it, but really the schedule is such
- 46:10Speaker 3: a fun point in time and sort of there's so
- 46:12Speaker 3: much that drives people's lives, what road trips they're doing,
- 46:16Speaker 3: you know, when their home games, when they're going to
- 46:17Speaker 3: have the big tailgates and otherwise. I think there's more
- 46:20Speaker 3: we can do to celebrate that moment and lift that
- 46:22Speaker 3: up a little bit. I think that whole free agency
- 46:24Speaker 3: period now and sort of there's more we can build
- 46:27Speaker 3: there in that offseason. And then on the non NFL level,
- 46:30Speaker 3: I think we're going to do some stuff on the
- 46:31Speaker 3: flag side. I think really build something that establishes more
- 46:36Speaker 3: of a sort of national championship type thing in the
- 46:40Speaker 3: summer months that I think will be really cool and
- 46:43Speaker 3: capture some of that excitement for flag that's out there,
- 46:46Speaker 3: and that's building in a more meaningful way. But yeah, no,
- 46:50Speaker 3: I love the heart of it. I love the draft.
- 46:54Speaker 3: That's my personal favorite. So it's already we already do
- 46:56Speaker 3: it a great job, and just how can we make
- 46:58Speaker 3: it bigger?
- 46:58Speaker 1: Last question? And I asked this to every guest. It's
- 47:00Speaker 1: always the final question. And I asked if to everyone
- 47:03Speaker 1: from McVeigh to Dan Patrick. Couple of weeks ago, you're
- 47:07Speaker 1: in an elevator at the Combine. Young guy comes up,
- 47:10Speaker 1: ill fitting suit, has a Manilla folder in his hand,
- 47:13Speaker 1: and he's got his resume and you've got ten floors together,
- 47:17Speaker 1: and he says, do you have just twenty seconds of advice?
- 47:19Speaker 1: You have my dream job, what would you tell me
- 47:21Speaker 1: to do? I'm a twenty two year old gal or guy,
- 47:24Speaker 1: and I'd love to do what you do someday. What
- 47:25Speaker 1: would be your advice to that person, I'd.
- 47:28Speaker 3: Say, just keep at it and look at any and
- 47:30Speaker 3: avity avenue to get into sports. I mean, sports is
- 47:33Speaker 3: a community. Which is the great part is it's growing
- 47:36Speaker 3: leaps and bounds. When I started, there was much more
- 47:38Speaker 3: limited opportunities. Now between the extension of media and agencies
- 47:43Speaker 3: and sponsorship and nil in college and otherwise, the sports
- 47:48Speaker 3: marketplace in the sports business arena has just gotten so big.
- 47:53Speaker 3: And if you're passionate you want to do it, there's
- 47:55Speaker 3: a job out there, there's a job out there for you,
- 47:57Speaker 3: and just stay at it and be persistent, you know.
- 47:59Speaker 3: I I before I took the job of the Internet company,
- 48:02Speaker 3: I came back in finance and I applied to the league.
- 48:05Speaker 3: I applied to all all the clubs in all the
- 48:08Speaker 3: NFL clubs in the league. I think I applied to
- 48:10Speaker 3: the baseball a number of baseball teams the NBA and
- 48:14Speaker 3: got rejected across all over every right, like it happened.
- 48:17Speaker 3: D even get an injury or anything. It's just sort
- 48:19Speaker 3: of a form letter back right, a different time and place,
- 48:22Speaker 3: and so but keep persisting, look for your opportunities, keep
- 48:26Speaker 3: developing your resume, developing your skill set, and stay at it.
- 48:30Speaker 3: There's a role out there, there's an opportunity, you know,
- 48:33Speaker 3: chase it. Just you know, if you like sports, getting
- 48:35Speaker 3: your foot in the door in sports, and then once
- 48:37Speaker 3: you're in sports, it's a lot easier to sort of
- 48:40Speaker 3: move within that, within that community. But stay at it
- 48:43Speaker 3: if you love it and you're passionate about it. Again,
- 48:46Speaker 3: if you keep at it, the rest will take care
- 48:48Speaker 3: of itself.
- 48:49Speaker 1: So it's awesome advice. Friday, three pm Eastern is the
- 48:52Speaker 1: actual game, but I imagine Amazon is going from like noon on.
- 48:56Speaker 1: I'm sure they're.
- 48:56Speaker 3: Thirty one to thirty start with the pre game into
- 48:59Speaker 3: it three o'clock.
- 49:00Speaker 1: And is it true that it's not just on Amazon?
- 49:02Speaker 1: Someone told me that it's like I'm listening somewhere, that
- 49:04Speaker 1: you can watch it anywhere.
- 49:05Speaker 3: So one of the things we wanted to do, especially
- 49:08Speaker 3: with this new window, most of the games are principally
- 49:10Speaker 3: within Amazon Prime. This is available for free across Amazon
- 49:14Speaker 3: if you go to the website, got it, go to
- 49:16Speaker 3: the app. You don't need to get all the way
- 49:17Speaker 3: into Prime. You may need to register otherwise based on
- 49:20Speaker 3: how their app works, but on the website and otherwise
- 49:22Speaker 3: it'll be free, it'll be streaming. There still be over
- 49:25Speaker 3: over the are in the home markets of the two
- 49:27Speaker 3: teams too. Just that's really important to us and continues
- 49:30Speaker 3: to be. But yeah, you've probably seen a lot of
- 49:33Speaker 3: the Rolling Stones Paint in black already great great tune
- 49:37Speaker 3: from back in the day, but fits right in. And
- 49:39Speaker 3: you know, it's it's it's exciting, it's you know, that's
- 49:41Speaker 3: one of the fun things when you're here a while
- 49:43Speaker 3: and you can do something new and be you know,
- 49:45Speaker 3: build something new and again. It's taken a lot of
- 49:48Speaker 3: different people from all across the league to do that.
- 49:50Speaker 3: It's going to be fun, it's going to be exciting,
- 49:52Speaker 3: and hopefully a lot of people are finding time amongst
- 49:54Speaker 3: their busy, busy fridays to watch watch the game, get
- 49:57Speaker 3: some of the unique deals they're going to be part
- 49:59Speaker 3: of the game that Amazon will have for you, and
- 50:01Speaker 3: enjoy some more NFL football.
- 50:03Speaker 1: Start your week Thursday morning, Good morning football, and end
- 50:06Speaker 1: it on the final snap of Vikings Bears. I think
- 50:09Speaker 1: it sounds like a great plan for the NFL.
- 50:10Speaker 3: Hey, look, my wife will tell many of our friends
- 50:13Speaker 3: that I have the best job in the world that
- 50:15Speaker 3: I can literally tell her I have to watch football
- 50:17Speaker 3: for my job. So I hear that a lot, but
- 50:20Speaker 3: it's partially true. It does give me some cover for
- 50:23Speaker 3: this weekend, although there's still time for dishes and other
- 50:25Speaker 3: things on Thursday afternoon. So but anyway, so man, thank
- 50:28Speaker 3: you for having me. This is awesome. Have a great
- 50:30Speaker 3: Thanksgiving dude.
- 50:32Speaker 1: So good. Hans Schroeder, NFL, This is an awesome conversation
- 50:36Speaker 1: and I love doing it in person.
- 50:37Speaker 3: Thanks for letting us in your office anytime. I'm man beautiful.
- 50:40Speaker 3: We'll see you soon.
- 50:41Speaker 1: The season with Peter Schrager Delivering Results presented by Uber Eats. Guys,
- 50:45Speaker 1: it is time to give our sponsors some love, and
- 50:48Speaker 1: each week I give a winner of the Delivering Results Award,
- 50:52Speaker 1: and this week I'm gonna go with Josh Allen. I
- 50:55Speaker 1: felt like there was a lot of doubt and a
- 50:57Speaker 1: lot of I don't know, angst in the air, and
- 51:01Speaker 1: I felt like Josh Allen going two seventy five through
- 51:03Speaker 1: the air and three touchdowns on offense and finding his
- 51:06Speaker 1: guys and just showing the Josh Allen of old deserves
- 51:09Speaker 1: some recognition, game balls galore this week. You can give
- 51:12Speaker 1: them to a million people. But as far as delivering results,
- 51:14Speaker 1: which quarterback needed a performance like that most? It was
- 51:17Speaker 1: Josh Allen that was delivering results. Relented by Uber Eats,
- 51:20Speaker 1: where you can get almost almost anything, the official on
- 51:23Speaker 1: demand delivery partner of the NFL. Order. Now, all right, everybody,
- 51:28Speaker 1: have an amazing Thanksgiving. I am very grateful for a
- 51:31Speaker 1: lot of things. One of them is the growth of
- 51:33Speaker 1: this show and the audience for your action. Really grateful
- 51:36Speaker 1: that you guys listen. Grateful for you, Aaron, Grateful for
- 51:39Speaker 1: you Jason. Grateful for the team that puts this thing together.
- 51:41Speaker 1: It's a season with Peter Schreger. And I'm really grateful
- 51:45Speaker 1: that after Thursdays Good Morning Football Show, I can go home.
- 51:48Speaker 1: I could sit on the couch. I can start a
- 51:51Speaker 1: little drinking drinky, I can have a little foodie foodie.
- 51:54Speaker 1: I'll probably have a nap during one of the games.
- 51:57Speaker 1: Wake up Friday, go to work, and then this is
- 51:59Speaker 1: my big reveal. I'll be at that game. I'm taking
- 52:02Speaker 1: my son Mel, We're going to our first game together.
- 52:04Speaker 1: I'm gonna go to the Jets game. I have to
- 52:07Speaker 1: have a lot of anxiety about traffic situations and parking.
- 52:10Speaker 1: Hans didn't talk about this in the process, but there's
- 52:13Speaker 1: a lot of American mall. What's it called the Great
- 52:15Speaker 1: American Arian Dream. I haven't been in a shopping mall.
- 52:18Speaker 1: I'm such a city guy. Now I've been in a
- 52:21Speaker 1: shopping mall in ten years, and I'm fearful of parking
- 52:23Speaker 1: in a shopping mall situation. I don't, Aaron, are you
- 52:26Speaker 1: following this parking situation out there that everyone anytime I
- 52:29Speaker 1: tell anyone, I'm going, Oh the American dream mall though
- 52:32Speaker 1: the parking. I said to Sean O'Hare, I'm like, I'm
- 52:34Speaker 1: going to the game on Friday, super excited. And Shawn o'
- 52:36Speaker 1: harre is like, did you consider the mall? Well?
- 52:40Speaker 2: I feel like once I moved to New York, I
- 52:43Speaker 2: was done with the mall. Call myself out of both
- 52:45Speaker 2: malls and parking lots.
- 52:47Speaker 1: If you're not involved with malls or parking lots, nor
- 52:49Speaker 1: am I yet. If there is a cheesecake factory within
- 52:52Speaker 1: a stone's throw, I will be there. If there is
- 52:55Speaker 1: a Sophora, my wife will find it. So I'm not
- 52:58Speaker 1: anti mall. I love anti Ann's I love the sweet Factory.
- 53:02Speaker 1: I love all these sweet factories. Still a thing did
- 53:03Speaker 1: you have that?
- 53:04Speaker 2: I have never even heard?
- 53:05Speaker 1: Have you heard a sweet factory? I feel candy pick'm place.
- 53:09Speaker 1: I'm biased to the Freehold basically Mall and Freehold, New Jersey,
- 53:12Speaker 1: which by the way, had an amazing arcade called time
- 53:15Speaker 1: Out If you've ever been fantastic, NBA jam and the
- 53:19Speaker 1: whole thing, Mortal Kombat, all that stuff. Long story short,
- 53:23Speaker 1: I'm taking my son. I'm hoping it's an amazing experience
- 53:27Speaker 1: and if it's not, trust Mail will be the first
- 53:28Speaker 1: one to tell you. On Tuesday one record the podcast.
- 53:32Speaker 1: My wife is coming as well. I just don't want
- 53:34Speaker 1: to get in a fight like that's all it is,
- 53:35Speaker 1: so like hopefully the traffic's okay and hopefully not mean
- 53:38Speaker 1: a fight with like the fans like, no, I don't,
- 53:40Speaker 1: I'm not kidding any far. There will be no parking
- 53:42Speaker 1: I'm angry. No, there'll be no parking lot. I'm talking
- 53:47Speaker 1: about one of those passive aggressive fights with my wife
- 53:49Speaker 1: where we're driving in and we're in an hour it's
- 53:51Speaker 1: worth of traffic and people are honking and she's just
- 53:53Speaker 1: quiet and saying what we couldn't have done this from
- 53:55Speaker 1: the couch. I get that, I know. I already am
- 53:57Speaker 1: anticipated until next week. This is awesome. Aaron Jason, everyone
- 54:02Speaker 1: back on the West Coast, thanks for listening, and guys,
- 54:04Speaker 1: have a good Thanksgiving. The Season with Peter Schrager is
- 54:23Speaker 1: a production of the NFL and partnership with iHeartRadio. For
