- 0:40Speaker 1: by a man who in one second, seven months will
- 0:46Speaker 1: become a Green Bay Packers Hall of Fame inductee.
- 0:51Speaker 2: Who hold on, Thank.
- 0:54Speaker 1: You, linebacker Clay Matthew. There it is.
- 0:59Speaker 3: You got a Viking's female sweater on.
- 1:05Speaker 2: It is female because it is my It's mat fiance.
- 1:08Speaker 1: Okay, all right, Well he's trying to shake your confidence, man.
- 1:11Speaker 1: And there's a joke Chester made that I only just
- 1:14Speaker 1: now got.
- 1:16Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:16Speaker 1: Can I explain it?
- 1:18Speaker 2: Yeah, you can explain it.
- 1:20Speaker 1: This morning when Clay and I were driving down the road,
- 1:22Speaker 1: Clay Matthews and I were driving down the road and
- 1:24Speaker 1: Clay Matthews is talking about moving to play with the Packers,
- 1:29Speaker 1: and he commented that how much people in Wisconsin like
- 1:35Speaker 1: their deer hunting, and he said they would come to
- 1:38Speaker 1: the games dressed in hunter's orange. That's your joke, right.
- 1:44Speaker 2: Yes, sir, Yeah, Krinn said where jerseys? And I didn't
- 1:48Speaker 2: have a jersey, so I put on some blazer of
- 1:50Speaker 2: orange because that's pretty much the team colors during a
- 1:52Speaker 2: home game when it's cold.
- 1:54Speaker 3: That's when you know it's season. It's late November, when
- 1:58Speaker 3: gun season opens, there's camm and blaze orange and you
- 2:01Speaker 3: can see that all around those games are.
- 2:05Speaker 1: This is my sporting jersey. Have to do with wrestling?
- 2:11Speaker 4: What's when I it's like everybody to know that Steve
- 2:15Speaker 4: is holding his shirt out in the exact fashion a
- 2:18Speaker 4: small childhood. Ask me about this. That's the octopus.
- 2:24Speaker 1: Whell So I got a gaff into a huge octopus. Well,
- 2:27Speaker 1: I need to share this with you here one up
- 2:29Speaker 1: in a situation, I got a gaff into a huge
- 2:32Speaker 1: octopus and he fought me off and got away with
- 2:36Speaker 1: the gaff. And then later we were laughing about now
- 2:39Speaker 1: that octopus is running around down there with a gaff.
- 2:43Speaker 3: So why why would I be in this position in
- 2:45Speaker 3: the future?
- 2:46Speaker 1: As if you ever get out, So here's when you
- 2:49Speaker 1: lose a fight with the octopus. Here's what happens. He
- 2:53Speaker 1: gets stuck to the whole of the boat and there's
- 2:56Speaker 1: no amount of nothing is going to get him off
- 2:59Speaker 1: the hole that boat. Okay, but when you give up
- 3:02Speaker 1: the fight, he just drops away. So I got this
- 3:07Speaker 1: gaff in his arm.
- 3:09Speaker 3: He's huge.
- 3:10Speaker 1: I have pictures of it. I got a gaff into
- 3:12Speaker 1: his arm, and we can't drag him on the boat.
- 3:15Speaker 1: My wife and her friend are not being kind of helpful.
- 3:19Speaker 1: And eventually he keeps moving down the whole of the
- 3:22Speaker 1: boat and I can't hold on. It's either I'm gonna
- 3:26Speaker 1: get dragged into the ocean or I'm gonna have to
- 3:28Speaker 1: let go, and I let go. I told this story
- 3:31Speaker 1: in the podcast, and the guy rode in with the
- 3:33Speaker 1: most genius idea in the world. When you get one
- 3:35Speaker 1: stuck to your boat like that and you can't get
- 3:37Speaker 1: it in the boat, just reach over there and put
- 3:40Speaker 1: a hook into it on a rod. Oh, get a
- 3:45Speaker 1: hook into the meaty part of his arm, and then
- 3:47Speaker 1: be like, okay, you win. I give up open the bail.
- 3:52Speaker 1: He's gonna push. Then you get a second chance, fight
- 3:58Speaker 1: him back up the boat and them again.
- 4:00Speaker 5: It sounds like your second Yeah, that's great.
- 4:03Speaker 1: No, that is a great tip.
- 4:06Speaker 5: I didn't see you writing any of those down, will
- 4:10Speaker 5: I will.
- 4:11Speaker 3: I will keep that in mind next time i'm gaffing
- 4:14Speaker 3: off to push ye gaffing gaffing, I'm sorry if you
- 4:18Speaker 3: haven't don.
- 4:19Speaker 1: Cuts of your super Bowl ring? Yeah, what year is
- 4:21Speaker 1: this now?
- 4:21Speaker 3: This is from twenty ten? We uh damn? Yeah, that's
- 4:26Speaker 3: nothing now nowadays because every team that wins the super.
- 4:29Speaker 2: Bowl it's a things massive.
- 4:33Speaker 3: How can they make it bigger than the year prior?
- 4:36Speaker 3: So the last couple of years teams have been making
- 4:38Speaker 3: so that top part can actually and this one doesn't,
- 4:41Speaker 3: but you can actually take the top off and inside
- 4:44Speaker 3: they'll have like a replica of the stadium and whatnot.
- 4:46Speaker 3: So that's, you know, from super Bowl forty twenty ten. So,
- 4:52Speaker 3: I mean it's an older I would consider an older
- 4:55Speaker 3: super Bowl ring you compare it to the other ones,
- 4:57Speaker 3: I mean, they might as well be wearing on two
- 4:58Speaker 3: knuckles now, it's they're that big.
- 5:00Speaker 1: Sacks on this game. I didn't can you ever get
- 5:03Speaker 1: these just done in brass knuckles? Five four rings altogether?
- 5:07Speaker 3: Tom Brady could yea. Not many others though.
- 5:12Speaker 1: That's impressive, man.
- 5:13Speaker 5: Yeah, you better pass that thing around.
- 5:15Speaker 1: Did you wear it out? And about then?
- 5:16Speaker 3: No, I've never worn it out.
- 5:18Speaker 1: I feel like a blowharder.
- 5:19Speaker 2: Yeah yeah.
- 5:20Speaker 3: And then every year there's a there's there's a new
- 5:22Speaker 3: there's a new winner every year, so you can't. And
- 5:24Speaker 3: I feel like it's a great thing to wear when
- 5:26Speaker 3: you go back to you know, if I if I
- 5:28Speaker 3: go back to Green Bay for whatever it may be.
- 5:31Speaker 3: If you know, for instance, next year the Hall of Fame,
- 5:34Speaker 3: the Packers Hall of Fame, perhaps I'll wear that. But otherwise,
- 5:37Speaker 3: like you're wearing your super Bowl ring out, that says
- 5:39Speaker 3: a lot about.
- 5:39Speaker 2: You, kind of like wearing a hat with more personality
- 5:42Speaker 2: than you have.
- 5:43Speaker 6: Right.
- 5:44Speaker 4: I used to bartend in Missoula, and there's an old
- 5:47Speaker 4: timer who played for the Raiders and had a Super
- 5:50Speaker 4: Bowl under his belt, and he wore his his super
- 5:54Speaker 4: Bowl ring.
- 5:55Speaker 5: But at that time, uh, you.
- 5:59Speaker 4: Know, I imagine that was more of a common thing
- 6:02Speaker 4: because it looked way more of a ring than this.
- 6:06Speaker 3: Well, I'm not saying I wouldn't wear it for free drinks.
- 6:08Speaker 3: I'm assuming that.
- 6:11Speaker 1: You you might not be old enough to get this reference.
- 6:13Speaker 1: But when I put it on, I feel like Liberachi.
- 6:16Speaker 3: I know, Liberaci, there's a lot of sparkling.
- 6:18Speaker 1: A lot of sparkle. You ever hear players get a
- 6:20Speaker 1: little hard up and selling their rings.
- 6:23Speaker 3: Yeah, I've heard.
- 6:24Speaker 1: What do they get for him when they do that?
- 6:26Speaker 3: It depends on the player. I mean there's there's been
- 6:29Speaker 3: some who will put there I don't know about rings,
- 6:32Speaker 3: and I'm sure it's happened. But bigger name guys, we'll
- 6:36Speaker 3: take it to auction and they'll bring in lots of money.
- 6:39Speaker 1: So Tom Brady sold his whole ring collection, that's gonna
- 6:41Speaker 1: be millions of dollars.
- 6:42Speaker 3: Yeah, because it's I mean it would I don't know
- 6:45Speaker 3: what that would go for if he sold, if he
- 6:47Speaker 3: sold one ring, I'm sure that would be at least
- 6:49Speaker 3: seven figures.
- 6:51Speaker 5: It's a heck of a weight.
- 6:53Speaker 1: Oh yeah, it's really heavy.
- 6:54Speaker 5: That's wild.
- 6:55Speaker 1: Okay, hang tight, Clay, Okay, we're gonna cover off on
- 6:58Speaker 1: some stuff, all right. I had the opposite of a correction?
- 7:04Speaker 1: What would you call it? Phil? What would you you know,
- 7:06Speaker 1: when we do corrections where you're wrong, what'd you call it?
- 7:09Speaker 1: If you were right?
- 7:10Speaker 5: So someone's writing proven you're right, or the person writing.
- 7:13Speaker 1: I said something I got shot down and then turns
- 7:16Speaker 1: out I'm right. I think that's a yeah, you're just
- 7:20Speaker 1: proving your point. Yeah, okay, I'm gonna prove my point
- 7:22Speaker 1: on something.
- 7:23Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 7:23Speaker 1: Their day. Uh. There was a biologist named Carmen van
- 7:26Speaker 1: Bianki sitting right where you're sitting right now, and I
- 7:29Speaker 1: was telling her about the late comedian Jerry Klower, who
- 7:33Speaker 1: would tell uh as he said, he doesn't tell funny stories,
- 7:37Speaker 1: he tells stories funny. I was talking about how Klower
- 7:40Speaker 1: is such a fan of great detail in his hunting stories,
- 7:46Speaker 1: and I was saying that a miss a mess up
- 7:48Speaker 1: that Klower had as he's telling a story about a
- 7:50Speaker 1: guy that used to he didn't believe in shooting raccoons
- 7:53Speaker 1: out of a tree. He'd like to climb the tree,
- 7:55Speaker 1: knock the raccoon out with a stick, and then let
- 7:58Speaker 1: the dog, let the raccoon fight it out with the dog,
- 8:00Speaker 1: because he felt you had to give a raccoon a
- 8:02Speaker 1: fighting chance, and if that raccoon wanted to lick all
- 8:06Speaker 1: those dogs and walk off, it was up to him.
- 8:08Speaker 1: But he didn't want to shoot it. And Klower has
- 8:11Speaker 1: a story about this guy, John Newbanks, climbing into a
- 8:14Speaker 1: tree and getting into a fight with a it's not
- 8:17Speaker 1: a raccoon. He punches it with a stick, but it
- 8:20Speaker 1: winds up being, as Klower said, a lynx. And Klower
- 8:26Speaker 1: says it was a lynx. We called them souped up wildcats. Now,
- 8:30Speaker 1: Carmen van Bianki that was in your seat is a
- 8:32Speaker 1: lynx researcher. Then someone said, well, I don't think Klower
- 8:36Speaker 1: messed up. I think that there's so much name confusion
- 8:40Speaker 1: because the bobcats Lenaean name is Lynx rufus right, so
- 8:46Speaker 1: they're like I think that people used to use linx
- 8:48Speaker 1: and bobcat interchangeably, or in some areas they would call
- 8:51Speaker 1: a bobcat a lynx. And I listened to that story
- 8:55Speaker 1: to check what I was talking about. Klower just prior
- 8:58Speaker 1: to that uses bi. Yeah, I notice that too. He
- 9:02Speaker 1: says cuts out. You don't have to worry. He says
- 9:07Speaker 1: he's talking about his dog, Brummy. He said, when old
- 9:09Speaker 1: Brummy cuts out, you don't have to worry about no
- 9:12Speaker 1: possum or no bobcat.
- 9:15Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 9:16Speaker 1: Then when John Newbanks gets into the tree, he says
- 9:19Speaker 1: it was a lynx MM, which don't range into Mississippi now,
- 9:26Speaker 1: and then cal will get frustrated if we talk about
- 9:28Speaker 1: something that does not matter. Can you imagine him right now,
- 9:34Speaker 1: just giving you like this.
- 9:35Speaker 5: It's like you're inside my brand.
- 9:39Speaker 1: It's like, what am I doing?
- 9:41Speaker 4: I want everyone here to note the patience that I
- 9:44Speaker 4: was having. I was really thinking that it was going
- 9:47Speaker 4: to come back to our podcast guest.
- 9:53Speaker 1: Surely this is going to come home and hit home
- 9:56Speaker 1: in some way. It's near and dear to me. Cal's thing.
- 9:59Speaker 1: We're gonna Uh uh so Chester's here, Max Barter's here.
- 10:05Speaker 1: I've asked you. I can't remember the answer. You no
- 10:07Speaker 1: relation to tread BARDA Yeah, I do you do?
- 10:11Speaker 5: He's my uncle.
- 10:12Speaker 1: Oh I I tell everyone that. But no, same spelling,
- 10:20Speaker 1: same spelling. Yeah, isn't it isn't. It wasn't his slogan,
- 10:23Speaker 1: I don't do things the hard way. I do things
- 10:25Speaker 1: the bar away. You can just do you ever? Just
- 10:27Speaker 1: steal that tattoo?
- 10:30Speaker 5: No get a tattoo?
- 10:32Speaker 1: I said, that's a tattoo right there. Thay Seth Morris
- 10:37Speaker 1: is here, Doctor Randall and uh callahan krins off where
- 10:43Speaker 1: she sits. We're nooking here, doctor Randall.
- 10:47Speaker 3: Uh.
- 10:48Speaker 1: We're excited. We are about the long Hunter Audio originals
- 10:53Speaker 1: performing nicely people are enjoying it. We're very excited. It's
- 10:57Speaker 1: got some negative reviews. Just don't a couple the top review.
- 11:03Speaker 1: Clay opens up the reviews. So me and Clay narrate it.
- 11:07Speaker 1: Worked on it with Randall. Clay opens up the reviews
- 11:09Speaker 1: in the first review, I don't like that, Clay nwcom guy.
- 11:15Speaker 1: It just deflates you, man, it's so bad.
- 11:18Speaker 7: Yeah.
- 11:19Speaker 1: I just want to call Apple and be like, he
- 11:21Speaker 1: just move that, like to another area.
- 11:23Speaker 2: A lot of people say they like Clay's voice.
- 11:26Speaker 1: You know that there's always gonna be some negative thing.
- 11:29Speaker 4: Can't please everybody, Yeah, the people who say positive things.
- 11:32Speaker 4: Typically that takes more energy to write in about something
- 11:36Speaker 4: positive than to complaint.
- 11:38Speaker 1: Yeah, when he likes something, you just sort of quietly
- 11:40Speaker 1: like it. It don't feel the need to tell anybody.
- 11:42Speaker 1: It's way more fun to criticize things. Yeah, my buddy
- 11:48Speaker 1: Tommy Ed's in the blue collar Scholar. He might have
- 11:51Speaker 1: a criticism. He might have wrote it. I get a
- 11:54Speaker 1: text from him. Why are there two narrators? I said,
- 11:58Speaker 1: it's a long story.
- 11:58Speaker 5: That's it. Just just that that's it, and say, hey,
- 12:01Speaker 5: it's pretty good. Not a question for you.
- 12:03Speaker 1: Nope, Nope, geez, Tommy, he didn't comment sandwich. That No, Oh, Krin,
- 12:10Speaker 1: did you see the article about how you shouldn't give
- 12:12Speaker 1: comment sandwiches?
- 12:14Speaker 8: Yeah?
- 12:16Speaker 1: Did you share that with me? The compliment sandwich, which
- 12:20Speaker 1: we've covered on the show, is like you say, do
- 12:23Speaker 1: I need to do it again? I do it all
- 12:24Speaker 1: the time.
- 12:26Speaker 6: People get it.
- 12:27Speaker 1: We're good to offer criticism. The new way to offer
- 12:30Speaker 1: criticism is to say I have a hell of a
- 12:33Speaker 1: lot of respect for you. You could do better.
- 12:37Speaker 5: Wow, that seems like your dad's like yelling I eat
- 12:43Speaker 5: about something.
- 12:45Speaker 1: We're gonna do the second installment of Oh No, First,
- 12:49Speaker 1: we're gonna do this. We have a kids podcast coming out.
- 12:52Speaker 1: We're gonna do a bunch and see how they do.
- 12:54Speaker 1: We're gonna do five. We're gonna do five kids podcasts
- 12:58Speaker 1: four or five kids podcasts five?
- 13:00Speaker 6: Right?
- 13:02Speaker 1: Why did why did it change a minute ago when
- 13:05Speaker 1: I talked to you, Let's go with five.
- 13:07Speaker 5: It's a real peak behind the curtains going on, Yeah, we're.
- 13:10Speaker 1: Gonna try it.
- 13:10Speaker 9: I don't.
- 13:11Speaker 1: I don't really know. People discourage you from from kids content.
- 13:14Speaker 5: There's an ongoing email chain as we speak, trying to
- 13:17Speaker 5: get down to the bottom of this.
- 13:18Speaker 1: So just so people know when they see it. Here,
- 13:20Speaker 1: here's the thing that's gonna happen if you listen to this.
- 13:23Speaker 1: And I never tell people that this is there's kids
- 13:25Speaker 1: that listen, but I never tell people this is a
- 13:26Speaker 1: kids show because you'll find out in a minute. One
- 13:28Speaker 1: of the reasons is not a kids show when we
- 13:30Speaker 1: get to talking about a broken reproductive organ on a
- 13:35Speaker 1: wild hog. But but in all fairness, I would talk
- 13:38Speaker 1: about that with my kids because we're pretty open with
- 13:40Speaker 1: them about stuff. Here's the trouble with the kids. It's
- 13:46Speaker 1: not trouble with the kids podcast. It's just hard. We're
- 13:50Speaker 1: gonna see if people like it. I think that I
- 13:52Speaker 1: know we have a ton of young parents out there
- 13:53Speaker 1: that listen. And we did a kid's book and our
- 13:56Speaker 1: and our kids book was became a number one New
- 13:59Speaker 1: York Times Best which inspired us to do a kid's podcast.
- 14:03Speaker 1: The kid's podcast is gonna run like this, and you're
- 14:06Speaker 1: gonna see it in your feed because we're not gonna
- 14:08Speaker 1: build I don't think we're gonna build its own feed.
- 14:11Speaker 1: We're gonna see how people like it and how they
- 14:13Speaker 1: respond to it. So if you're listening and you start
- 14:16Speaker 1: seeing this kid's podcast pop up in your feed, and
- 14:18Speaker 1: you're not a kid and you don't have kids, just
- 14:19Speaker 1: ignore it. Go on to the next thing. It's the
- 14:21Speaker 1: kids Show. The Kids Show is very short. It has
- 14:23Speaker 1: three components to it. I come on and do a
- 14:28Speaker 1: little mini history lesson. Okay, we're gonna do a kid
- 14:34Speaker 1: and I have kids, so I've had kids for thirteen years.
- 14:36Speaker 1: I don't want two Mountain horn. In thirteen years. I've
- 14:39Speaker 1: established my credentials as someone who explains things the kids
- 14:43Speaker 1: a lot, so I kind of get how to explain
- 14:44Speaker 1: things to kids. So I'm just doing it all the time.
- 14:48Speaker 1: I talk about in the first one, why teddy bears
- 14:51Speaker 1: are called teddy bears? Okay, which is a bear hunting story.
- 14:54Speaker 1: And then we're gonna do one about animals that are crepuscular,
- 14:58Speaker 1: not nocturnal, not die crepuscular, stuff like that. Then we
- 15:03Speaker 1: do a thing that kids are gonna love, where it's
- 15:04Speaker 1: animal noises. And it's like a clue game as you
- 15:07Speaker 1: build up to guess what animals make in that noise.
- 15:10Speaker 1: And we have some phenomenal wildlife noises and you'll hear it.
- 15:14Speaker 1: You be like that ain't no animal, but it is,
- 15:17Speaker 1: and so it's a guessing game. And then there's Kids
- 15:19Speaker 1: Trivia where we have a bunch of kids come into
- 15:21Speaker 1: the studio and it's a three question trivia show and
- 15:24Speaker 1: instead of them competing against one another, which is what
- 15:27Speaker 1: they would like to do, they work as a group
- 15:29Speaker 1: to raise money for conservation. So, you know, like the
- 15:32Speaker 1: only game show where conservation ours wins, me Eater Trivia,
- 15:35Speaker 1: This is the only kids show where conservation ours wins,
- 15:38Speaker 1: and their day the only kids show where belching ours wins. No,
- 15:43Speaker 1: how did that go, Fiel? That was a good joke.
- 15:45Speaker 5: We don't want to spoil it. But there's involved.
- 15:47Speaker 1: Yes, the kids at the table earn money for every
- 15:52Speaker 1: right question they get and it can be accumulative. So
- 15:55Speaker 1: if you ask ten kids a question and all ten
- 15:57Speaker 1: kids get the question right, they would earn fifty bucks,
- 16:01Speaker 1: one hundred bucks, something like that, and it goes on.
- 16:03Speaker 1: And so they're contributing by getting the answers right and wrong.
- 16:06Speaker 1: They're contributing to a pool of money collectively that then
- 16:11Speaker 1: goes to support conservation organs organizations. We don't let the
- 16:14Speaker 1: kids pick, I guess, Spencer picks for them. Yeah, Spencer
- 16:19Speaker 1: hosts that and it's a panel of kids. So if
- 16:21Speaker 1: you got kids, you might like this. And if it works, well,
- 16:23Speaker 1: we'll keep doing it. If not, and I'll we'll keep
- 16:26Speaker 1: you posted. If it's not resonating and people don't like it,
- 16:29Speaker 1: we're not gonna do it because it's a heavy lift.
- 16:32Speaker 1: It's like hard to find advertisers for a kids podcasts.
- 16:36Speaker 1: I'm just being really upfront.
- 16:39Speaker 2: I was wondering why there was all kinds of havoc
- 16:41Speaker 2: going on the other day. Oh yeah, just running around
- 16:44Speaker 2: and next thing I know, they're in my office eating
- 16:47Speaker 2: a bunch of candy.
- 16:48Speaker 1: And you know the worst thing about having the kids podcasts,
- 16:52Speaker 1: my kids participate, and I'm always bringing junk from home
- 16:55Speaker 1: and putting it on the free table. In a minute,
- 16:59Speaker 1: my kids come that door, they go to that free table,
- 17:02Speaker 1: find stuff, and then bring it back to my house.
- 17:06Speaker 2: I gave him some stuff.
- 17:07Speaker 1: No, they come, they like, they don't stop. Then you
- 17:10Speaker 1: know there's candy around. They look hard enough. The first
- 17:13Speaker 1: thing they're gonna do is go to that free table,
- 17:15Speaker 1: fill a bag up with a bunch of hats whatever. Yeah,
- 17:20Speaker 1: and then go back home with all that stuff and
- 17:22Speaker 1: fight about it like it was never laying around. I'm like,
- 17:24Speaker 1: the reason it's on the free table is because it
- 17:26Speaker 1: was here and no one wanted it.
- 17:29Speaker 5: I think you're kind of under selling the show, though,
- 17:31Speaker 5: switch back, because.
- 17:32Speaker 1: Because get in there, well I sell the hell out
- 17:34Speaker 1: of it.
- 17:34Speaker 7: Well you did.
- 17:35Speaker 5: You're like, I don't know what's gonna happen. It's hard
- 17:36Speaker 5: to do.
- 17:37Speaker 1: We'll see.
- 17:37Speaker 5: But I just want to say that we played it
- 17:38Speaker 5: for Spencer the other day and he thought he thought
- 17:40Speaker 5: it was one of the best things we've ever done
- 17:42Speaker 5: as a company.
- 17:44Speaker 1: Hold on, you played it for who?
- 17:45Speaker 5: We played the rough cut of the pilot episode for
- 17:48Speaker 5: Spencer and he loved it. He was over the moon
- 17:50Speaker 5: about it.
- 17:51Speaker 1: Yeah, that's the best thing we've ever done.
- 17:55Speaker 10: I'm twenty seven years old, and I think I'm gonna
- 17:57Speaker 10: listen to this podcast.
- 17:59Speaker 1: I might in a thing or two. I'm not under
- 18:01Speaker 1: I'm trying to oversell it. I'm just trying to clarify
- 18:04Speaker 1: why you see a kid's show in this feed, and
- 18:08Speaker 1: I'm asking people to bear with us. Don't be annoyed,
- 18:11Speaker 1: don't be like, what in the hell is this? It's
- 18:13Speaker 1: just because we're doing it and to benefit America's children.
- 18:19Speaker 1: That sounds that sounds. We're doing it for America's children,
- 18:24Speaker 1: and then after five, if we see an appropriate response,
- 18:29Speaker 1: it'll move and live on its own, and so you
- 18:31Speaker 1: won't always have to wonder why this kids show is
- 18:34Speaker 1: on your thing. If you have parents, I think you're
- 18:37Speaker 1: gonna like it. We're gonna jump into a second installment. Oh,
- 18:43Speaker 1: can you share the pictures with Clay Matthews. Yes, we're
- 18:47Speaker 1: gonna jump into the second installment of our trail cam series.
- 18:50Speaker 1: The last one we did Cats we focused on Ditch
- 18:54Speaker 1: Cougar's Mountain Lions, Bobcats, and then and then, but there's
- 18:58Speaker 1: all the last time we did crazy trail Cams. There's
- 19:02Speaker 1: a little thing to Happen where we were talking about
- 19:04Speaker 1: what not to send in, and we were laughing about
- 19:08Speaker 1: someone who just sends in a picture of a pig
- 19:11Speaker 1: a wild hog with his lipstick out, and Krinn we
- 19:15Speaker 1: were laughing about Krinn has to open all these up.
- 19:17Speaker 1: And so we were sort of pointing this one out
- 19:20Speaker 1: as an example of something not worth sending in, like
- 19:24Speaker 1: pigs get excited, pigs reproduced just because you happen to
- 19:28Speaker 1: get a trail cam photo of a pig ready aroused,
- 19:34Speaker 1: aroused that doesn't need to go to Krinn, and so
- 19:38Speaker 1: we dogged on the guy. Then the guy rode in saying,
- 19:41Speaker 1: you got me all wrong.
- 19:45Speaker 5: I've seen a lot of lipstick and this one's worse.
- 19:47Speaker 1: He's like, sure, this guy does have his lipstick out
- 19:50Speaker 1: all the time, but he points this out. It's stuck out,
- 19:55Speaker 1: and he said it's flopping around. So he's always right,
- 20:06Speaker 1: flops the water place never goes away over time. It's
- 20:08Speaker 1: not that he has out, it's just out.
- 20:11Speaker 5: My wife had a chiuahua like that.
- 20:13Speaker 1: Oh hang tight. So we're gonna call a veterinarian here
- 20:19Speaker 1: and she's gonna explain something. Can you hear this good?
- 20:23Speaker 5: Put the bottom of the phone right up to the
- 20:25Speaker 5: like the front of the microphone. Make sure your volumes
- 20:27Speaker 5: talking volume all the way up.
- 20:31Speaker 1: Hello, Divina, are you ready to talk about the pig?
- 20:37Speaker 5: Let's talk about it.
- 20:40Speaker 1: So I'm on the phone with the Divina. We have
- 20:41Speaker 1: a resident genius. We have Doctor Randall, but he's not
- 20:44Speaker 1: the resident genius. We have an actual resident genius, an
- 20:49Speaker 1: actual resident genius named Hunter Spencer. And I'm on the
- 20:52Speaker 1: phone with Hunter Spencer's spouse, who is a veterinarian. And
- 20:58Speaker 1: I called her about this pig, and she clarified she's
- 21:02Speaker 1: not a hog man, but she has some things to discuss.
- 21:06Speaker 2: Divina, I have some I do have some animal knowledge.
- 21:10Speaker 1: Okay, and I can share. So share it with this
- 21:13Speaker 1: gentleman named Jacob who we teased, and now we owe
- 21:16Speaker 1: an apology and an explanation.
- 21:18Speaker 5: Put the fun in the front of your mic, Steve,
- 21:20Speaker 5: where you talking about.
- 21:22Speaker 7: Are we referring to the pig or are we referring
- 21:26Speaker 7: to dogs and cats?
- 21:28Speaker 1: Well, you can do what you think is going on
- 21:30Speaker 1: with the pig based on what you know goes on
- 21:32Speaker 1: with dogs.
- 21:33Speaker 7: Okay, So in the photos that you sent, obviously the
- 21:41Speaker 7: pigs penis is out. That's called paraphemosis in dogs and cats,
- 21:49Speaker 7: pigs it is. It actually is a rare phenomenon that
- 21:52Speaker 7: it can't happen. It's more common in dogs. It can
- 21:57Speaker 7: happen for a number of reasons, but the most common
- 22:00Speaker 7: reason in bogs is that they get an erection. The
- 22:04Speaker 7: penis comes out of the prepuce, which is the skin
- 22:08Speaker 7: that houses the penis. The penis dries out and then
- 22:13Speaker 7: it can't go back in the place. Sometimes you can
- 22:18Speaker 7: also especially in large in long haired breaths, the hair
- 22:24Speaker 7: can get wrapped around the penis prevents it from going
- 22:28Speaker 7: back in. So it's typically one of those scenarios.
- 22:34Speaker 1: Vini honsec yepa dragon.
- 22:37Speaker 2: Yeah, a lot.
- 22:39Speaker 3: Of penis around.
- 22:40Speaker 1: Okay, guys, want to make sure our guess is following.
- 22:43Speaker 4: There's lining up with anything. He's on the locker room.
- 22:46Speaker 4: Just wait, you can answer that later. We got back
- 22:49Speaker 4: to it.
- 22:50Speaker 1: Go on to penis.
- 22:50Speaker 7: Sorry, So anyway, I would say, what's happened with this
- 22:55Speaker 7: pig is that he's had an erection and for some reason,
- 23:00Speaker 7: the penis just hasn't went back.
- 23:02Speaker 2: Into the sheath or the pre pews.
- 23:06Speaker 7: In dogs, it can cut off circulation and the penis
- 23:12Speaker 7: can actually end up falling off, which has I have
- 23:16Speaker 7: seen happen. But in that particular photo that you said,
- 23:22Speaker 7: it doesn't look like the penis is engorged. It looks
- 23:26Speaker 7: like it's just more flaccid and just in the out position.
- 23:29Speaker 7: So yeah, can you tell folks how you fix it?
- 23:35Speaker 1: In dogs? This is a crazy story. Oh what surgeries
- 23:38Speaker 1: did you do on animals? Today?
- 23:41Speaker 7: I did a dental on a dog and then.
- 23:46Speaker 3: We also did what did we do on that dog?
- 23:52Speaker 7: Had a piometerrispe, which was an infected uterus in a
- 23:56Speaker 7: dog Suspan neuters. You're your pets to prevent that. I
- 24:02Speaker 7: have to plug that.
- 24:05Speaker 1: And then the other dog.
- 24:06Speaker 7: We did a sedation on and we did trim the
- 24:11Speaker 7: nails on that dog because it won't allow them.
- 24:15Speaker 1: You had to sedate a dog that you nails. Yes, yes, peanut.
- 24:21Speaker 7: Butter, that happens quite often. Yeah, they hate their nails
- 24:26Speaker 7: to be trimmed.
- 24:27Speaker 1: Got it? So talk about how you fix this on
- 24:29Speaker 1: a dog, because this is I don't know, I don't
- 24:33Speaker 1: know what it is. I thought it was interesting.
- 24:36Speaker 7: The most simple way to fix it, and generally what
- 24:40Speaker 7: you do is you just wash the penis off gently
- 24:43Speaker 7: using cool water. You apply some lubrication and then just
- 24:50Speaker 7: pull the skin back over the penis.
- 24:54Speaker 5: If it is too big.
- 24:56Speaker 7: To sit back in, you would apply a hot hypertonic
- 25:02Speaker 7: saline solution or sugar.
- 25:05Speaker 5: Sugar pulls fluid out.
- 25:07Speaker 7: So you can actually just pack the penis with sugar, yes,
- 25:12Speaker 7: a few minutes and then pull the fluid out.
- 25:17Speaker 3: I feel, yeah, you can, and then you can pick
- 25:22Speaker 3: it back in.
- 25:23Speaker 7: Sometimes you have to open make the opening larger, huh,
- 25:28Speaker 7: in order to get it back over the penis, and
- 25:32Speaker 7: then in cases where the penis has died, you actually
- 25:37Speaker 7: have to amputate the penis and make it basically visually
- 25:43Speaker 7: like a girl. You would just suture an opening up
- 25:47Speaker 7: and the dog would pay through the opening instead of
- 25:50Speaker 7: the end of the penis.
- 25:52Speaker 1: Would they still lift their legs?
- 25:53Speaker 9: Oh?
- 25:54Speaker 1: Yeah, can you ever cure them of lifting their leg Yeah?
- 25:57Speaker 3: They normally will still do that.
- 25:59Speaker 7: Yeahs behavior yeah, behavioral response. Yeah.
- 26:03Speaker 4: So if you see that five pound bag of sugar
- 26:05Speaker 4: at the vat, they're not just drinking a lot of.
- 26:10Speaker 1: Divina. Dude, you don't even know how much I'm gonna
- 26:13Speaker 1: We're gonna call you on this show now that you
- 26:17Speaker 1: did such a good job of this. Oh, her family's
- 26:19Speaker 1: from her family's longtime bear like app latch and black
- 26:23Speaker 1: bear hunters hunters. Yeah, oh, plug your vet business.
- 26:28Speaker 7: Well, I'll work so we live in Virginia Beach. I'll
- 26:31Speaker 7: work at kimspill Venery Hospital.
- 26:35Speaker 2: In Virginia Beach.
- 26:36Speaker 1: And no, are you looking for clients or are you
- 26:38Speaker 1: just trying to have it be either? You don't have
- 26:39Speaker 1: to do anything down there.
- 26:42Speaker 7: We always welcome clients. Yeah, so yeah, call us.
- 26:47Speaker 5: Up until you become the regional penis specialist. Like, that's
- 26:51Speaker 5: what's going to result out of this?
- 26:53Speaker 1: So plugged plugged the business again.
- 26:55Speaker 7: Yes, it's Kensvil Ventary Hospital in Virginia beach.
- 27:00Speaker 1: Okay, I'm not catching the first word. I'm sorry. Kemp
- 27:03Speaker 1: spill k E m p s v I L L
- 27:06Speaker 1: E god kemp spill Kempsville asked for divinum. Yes, okay,
- 27:13Speaker 1: don't let other podcasts call you up. All right, No,
- 27:17Speaker 1: another podcast wants to talk about something, telling me you
- 27:19Speaker 1: can't because you're you got an exclusive.
- 27:22Speaker 2: I'm loyal to you, guy, Yeah, you got.
- 27:23Speaker 1: An exclusive here, right, You're like you're like doctor Phil
- 27:28Speaker 1: used to be the Oprah for us not thinking the
- 27:31Speaker 1: right guy?
- 27:32Speaker 5: Yeah, doctor asked.
- 27:35Speaker 1: All right, thank you, Divina. You're welcome.
- 27:38Speaker 7: Have a good one, guys, all right, all.
- 27:42Speaker 1: Right, so there you go the guy we goove down,
- 27:46Speaker 1: made it right and we all learned something. Yeah, Jacob,
- 27:49Speaker 1: there you go, Jacob, sorry to dog on you man.
- 27:51Speaker 1: I didn't think you were a pervert. Karen Mine, I
- 27:57Speaker 1: don't know. Oh oh yeah, so this I'm catching the
- 28:02Speaker 1: theme now. Another guy rote in, where where do people
- 28:04Speaker 1: go to see all these pictures you want to post?
- 28:08Speaker 9: Some of them on Instagram maybe, but if they're.
- 28:11Speaker 1: Watching this episode, Oh okay, so yeah, if you're wonder
- 28:14Speaker 1: what we're looking at, you can go on just just
- 28:17Speaker 1: go watch the show on YouTube obl see the pictures.
- 28:20Speaker 1: This one is a guy I rolled in. He's got
- 28:22Speaker 1: he's got a picture of this buck alive, and he's
- 28:24Speaker 1: got a picture of a buck dead. The buck dead
- 28:26Speaker 1: is hanging right side up, head up. And the gentleman
- 28:31Speaker 1: that rode in thought that his that the deer's scrot
- 28:35Speaker 1: him was in front. So if you imagine deer going
- 28:40Speaker 1: down the trail, his penis is leading in the way,
- 28:43Speaker 1: leading the way, and his scrot them is taking up
- 28:46Speaker 1: the rear.
- 28:47Speaker 10: Cal would you say something about Frank's in the back?
- 28:51Speaker 5: Oh?
- 28:52Speaker 4: That that's something about Mary reference got got the beans
- 28:56Speaker 4: before the frank.
- 28:57Speaker 5: How'd you make that happen?
- 28:58Speaker 6: Oh?
- 28:59Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, So your frank is first, your beans come take.
- 29:04Speaker 1: If you're a deer, your frank is leading away and
- 29:07Speaker 1: your beans are behind. Typically sends in a picture where
- 29:09Speaker 1: there's a deer, what his beans are the head of
- 29:12Speaker 1: the frank Krin sends it to Halffelfinger, deer biologist, great
- 29:17Speaker 1: friend of the show, Halflefinger says it was a couple
- 29:19Speaker 1: of things going on. One his halfle finger says, what
- 29:25Speaker 1: you're looking at, what you think are enlarged beans, is
- 29:28Speaker 1: a tumor, a scrow shaped tumor riding ahead of the frank,
- 29:37Speaker 1: beyond the frank, behind the frank, and maybe related to
- 29:43Speaker 1: the tumor is an atropheed scrotum.
- 29:48Speaker 10: Next picture, I was gonna say, those don't look like testicles.
- 29:54Speaker 10: Looks like something else was happening there.
- 29:57Speaker 1: That's a Hefflefinger thinks.
- 30:00Speaker 3: About that picture, Clay, I think it's a hernia, and
- 30:04Speaker 3: I bring that from my sports background. You hear people having,
- 30:08Speaker 3: you know, herniations, and they have to get that wire
- 30:11Speaker 3: mesh put in.
- 30:12Speaker 1: And we had a buck hernia.
- 30:15Speaker 3: Yeah, and then you could see the what looks like
- 30:18Speaker 3: the intestines might be spilling out. Maybe this veterinarian Virginia
- 30:22Speaker 3: Beach can do a wire mesh implant before this buck
- 30:28Speaker 3: was killed.
- 30:30Speaker 1: I don't know if you'd mind me sharing personal information
- 30:32Speaker 1: of yours.
- 30:33Speaker 5: No, I go for it.
- 30:35Speaker 1: Seth got diagnosed with I recently shared the experience of
- 30:40Speaker 1: going down and having the boys Sonard.
- 30:45Speaker 5: Yeah, you and I have a very very similar experience, and.
- 30:52Speaker 1: They told they read Seth's results. What do you call
- 30:54Speaker 1: that when you when you're having a baby ultrasound? They
- 30:57Speaker 1: read Seth's results.
- 30:58Speaker 5: It's like life scope.
- 30:59Speaker 1: But and they're like, oh, you got a hernia. And
- 31:02Speaker 1: then Seth goes down to the hernia guy and he
- 31:06Speaker 1: takes a look and tells Seth to get up and
- 31:07Speaker 1: go home. He says, ninety percent of the people they
- 31:10Speaker 1: send me down here, suppose you with a hernia don't
- 31:12Speaker 1: have a hernia?
- 31:14Speaker 5: Yep, surprised.
- 31:17Speaker 2: What did you have just like a lot of gas
- 31:19Speaker 2: or something?
- 31:21Speaker 5: Well, yeah, I do have that, but uh no, it's
- 31:24Speaker 5: just a strained muscle, gotcha.
- 31:25Speaker 1: Yeah, Hey, can we put up Phil Do you have
- 31:27Speaker 1: the technology? The technology to put up a photo of
- 31:30Speaker 1: Max's hernia? Oh boy?
- 31:33Speaker 5: If he sends it to me, yeah, we'll do that.
- 31:36Speaker 1: The last part of the trail camp, the last trail
- 31:39Speaker 1: camp picture we're gonna get into. And you this, you
- 31:41Speaker 1: gotta there's there's nothing extraordinary about the trail camp photo.
- 31:44Speaker 1: So June third, twenty twenty three, four twenty nine pm. Uh,
- 31:49Speaker 1: it's a mountain lion walking through what looks to be
- 31:52Speaker 1: a Riprairian area. But The story behind is pretty crazy
- 31:59Speaker 1: because a man and woman that own this place, they're
- 32:03Speaker 1: getting married on their property, and they get married on
- 32:11Speaker 1: they get married at whatever the hell four o'clock June third,
- 32:15Speaker 1: twenty twenty three. Okay, oh really, they get they get
- 32:20Speaker 1: married June third, twenty twenty three at four pm. In
- 32:26Speaker 1: this cell cam picture is a mountain lion that was
- 32:29Speaker 1: snapped at June third, twenty twenty three, four to twenty
- 32:33Speaker 1: nine pm. He's got a picture of where he got
- 32:38Speaker 1: married and an arrow pointing to where the trail camp is. Yeah,
- 32:43Speaker 1: at at four point thirty okay, and unbelow. Later they
- 32:50Speaker 1: just pulled the card and they're like, oh my god,
- 32:51Speaker 1: a mountain lion. And they looked at the date and time,
- 32:53Speaker 1: and that lion was there while they got married, like
- 32:57Speaker 1: right behind where they got married.
- 33:00Speaker 2: That's cool.
- 33:01Speaker 5: Yeah, that's pretty cool.
- 33:02Speaker 1: Yeah, that's good. I had years ago. I was at
- 33:06Speaker 1: wedding in Taos, New Mexico, and the gal I was
- 33:09Speaker 1: with where I didn't know the people get married, but
- 33:11Speaker 1: she did. And the preacher commented on the hawks circling overhead.
- 33:19Speaker 1: There were buzzards. Oh. I turned to my date and said,
- 33:25Speaker 1: I mean hawks.
- 33:28Speaker 2: I think the mountain lion thing would be good luck.
- 33:31Speaker 2: You know how they say if it rains at your wedding,
- 33:34Speaker 2: it's good luck, good juju.
- 33:36Speaker 1: Yeah, I don't. I don't know that.
- 33:38Speaker 10: No, Steve, do you actually want me to send that?
- 33:40Speaker 1: True? I think it'd be a good idea. Okay, I
- 33:43Speaker 1: just think if you want to folks out there one see,
- 33:45Speaker 1: like just a real no need to go get no
- 33:49Speaker 1: ultrasound over this herdia. Yeah, give me definitely a heard you.
- 33:53Speaker 9: Uh.
- 33:54Speaker 1: You know there's that Bob Dylan quote, don't need a
- 33:56Speaker 1: weatherman to tell the way the wind blows right, and
- 34:00Speaker 1: that hernia diagnoses itself. Yeah, is he putting it up
- 34:05Speaker 1: right now?
- 34:05Speaker 5: Yeah? Yeah, it'll be a thirty seconds here.
- 34:09Speaker 1: So Clay Matthew's your first duck ever today? First several
- 34:15Speaker 1: ducks first, different kinds of stay closer to your mic
- 34:17Speaker 1: way Yeah, sorry, Oh you' all right. Did not grow
- 34:21Speaker 1: up around hunting though I didn't.
- 34:23Speaker 3: I grew out in the outside of Los Angeles and hunting.
- 34:29Speaker 3: No one hunting my family.
- 34:30Speaker 1: Because they all played football.
- 34:32Speaker 3: They all played football. Yeah, they were all busy during
- 34:34Speaker 3: the fall, the best time a year to hunt. But yeah,
- 34:37Speaker 3: I don't know once I got to uh uh, and
- 34:40Speaker 3: I wasn't even I was always an outdoorsman. I always
- 34:42Speaker 3: enjoyed the outdoors, just just messing around out there as
- 34:45Speaker 3: a kid, but there's limited opportunities where I was living.
- 34:49Speaker 3: And I think once I went to Wisconsin and Green Bay,
- 34:52Speaker 3: that's when you know, I started to be around immerse
- 34:55Speaker 3: myself in that culture of you know, white tailed deer, hunting, turkey,
- 35:00Speaker 3: black bear, walleye fishing, king salmon, and I think that
- 35:04Speaker 3: just kind of lit the fire, so to speak. And
- 35:06Speaker 3: then I, you know, had the means to to book
- 35:09Speaker 3: some of these hunts and travel a little bit more,
- 35:12Speaker 3: and I think I just started down the path to
- 35:14Speaker 3: where I'm That's where I'm at now, I might Okay, yeah, interrupted.
- 35:21Speaker 1: That's that's not a testicle, I promise, yeah, wow surgery. Yeah. Anyway,
- 35:36Speaker 1: I saw Clay Register that picture off the corner of
- 35:38Speaker 1: his eyes striking were the kind of kidd was just
- 35:52Speaker 1: good at all, like good at everything, good at all
- 35:54Speaker 1: the sports.
- 35:55Speaker 3: Not really I I was. I was good when I
- 35:59Speaker 3: was young, very good, and then I got passed up
- 36:03Speaker 3: because I went through puberty real late, like almost like
- 36:07Speaker 3: my junior and senior year. Yeah, I did.
- 36:09Speaker 2: Yeah, that's it's hard to.
- 36:10Speaker 3: Explain to people why I'm talking about my you know,
- 36:13Speaker 3: becoming a man. But you know, and so I wasn't.
- 36:16Speaker 3: I played in high.
- 36:17Speaker 1: School and then all of a sudden, you weren't big anymore.
- 36:19Speaker 3: Exactly, And I was getting passed up by everybody, and
- 36:22Speaker 3: I had to my knees hurt, my heels hurt, I
- 36:24Speaker 3: had chin splints. I was not a very good athlete.
- 36:27Speaker 3: And finally my senior year, I grew about three inches
- 36:30Speaker 3: and put on about forty pounds, and I was I
- 36:32Speaker 3: was still coming into my own, you know, as far
- 36:34Speaker 3: as an athlete is concerned. But my dad was our
- 36:37Speaker 3: defensive coordinator and opted not to start me. So you know,
- 36:40Speaker 3: that's just that goes a lot a lot of a
- 36:43Speaker 3: lot of parents blow. Yeah, well, I mean rightfully, so
- 36:46Speaker 3: I shouldn't have been starting. So I don't hold it
- 36:47Speaker 3: against them whatsoever, but it makes it makes a story
- 36:50Speaker 3: that much better.
- 36:50Speaker 1: Yeah, layout who all who all in your family is
- 36:54Speaker 1: involved in professional sure? Who? Like?
- 36:57Speaker 3: Well started with college sports in the NFL. Yeah, it
- 36:59Speaker 3: started with my grandfather, Clay Matthews senior. He went to
- 37:05Speaker 3: Call He played football and was a boxer, but he
- 37:07Speaker 3: went to Georgia Tech and then played for the forty
- 37:11Speaker 3: nine ers and ended up serving in the Korean War.
- 37:14Speaker 3: And this was back when football you didn't make a
- 37:16Speaker 3: whole lot of money. And then two of his sons,
- 37:19Speaker 3: which is one is my father, so Clay Matthews Junior,
- 37:21Speaker 3: he played nineteen years in the NFL. And his brother,
- 37:25Speaker 3: so my uncle Bruce, he played nineteen.
- 37:28Speaker 2: Years as well. Business it's unheard of to play nineteen
- 37:32Speaker 2: years too.
- 37:33Speaker 1: He's in the You gotta have some sore parts, man.
- 37:37Speaker 3: My dad seems to be in great shape. My uncle's
- 37:39Speaker 3: he's you know, he's got some locked up elbows and
- 37:41Speaker 3: from being in the trenches. But he's in the Pro
- 37:43Speaker 3: Football Hall of Fame. And however, gosh, how many of
- 37:48Speaker 3: his kids he's had. One is currently the starting left
- 37:51Speaker 3: tackle for the Atlanta Falcons, Jake Matthews, who I've done
- 37:54Speaker 3: a number of hunts with. My other cousin, Kevin, played
- 37:58Speaker 3: for the Titans for for four or five years.
- 38:02Speaker 2: That's incredible.
- 38:03Speaker 3: Another one of his brothers, another one my cousins, was
- 38:05Speaker 3: was with the Pittsburgh Steelers for a minute. And then
- 38:08Speaker 3: on my side of the family, obviously, I you know,
- 38:11Speaker 3: had my career eleven years in the league. My younger
- 38:15Speaker 3: brother played, he went to the University of Oregon. He
- 38:18Speaker 3: played five or six years, and then my older brother
- 38:23Speaker 3: didn't play in the NFL but played college ball at
- 38:26Speaker 3: University of Southern California. So I don't know how many
- 38:28Speaker 3: that is, but yeah, football, it's yeah.
- 38:32Speaker 2: They're like, what's your last name, son, Matthews?
- 38:35Speaker 3: Okay, come on, Yeah, we've been blessed to have a
- 38:39Speaker 3: body that can, you know, withhandle the riggers and punishment
- 38:43Speaker 3: of the game. But I also think we're I think
- 38:45Speaker 3: we're a little different in the sense of the competitive
- 38:48Speaker 3: nature that we have and how you know, we want
- 38:51Speaker 3: to be great and I truly believe that.
- 38:53Speaker 6: Hm.
- 38:54Speaker 1: I can't remember if I mentioned this before when we
- 38:56Speaker 1: were talking to other athletes, but I got a friend
- 38:59Speaker 1: who he's the first baseman with the Mats Pede Alonzo.
- 39:03Speaker 1: You know you're here. He's been on the show and
- 39:07Speaker 1: he's all right. He never knows if he's gonna be
- 39:09Speaker 1: able to hunt on a bunch because if he's on it,
- 39:11Speaker 1: if if they don't make the playoffs, it's a killer
- 39:15Speaker 1: hunting year for him. Yeah, because he's what done in
- 39:18Speaker 1: some time you're done.
- 39:19Speaker 9: Yeah.
- 39:19Speaker 1: Yeah, if you make the playoffs, you're screwed.
- 39:21Speaker 9: Yeah.
- 39:21Speaker 1: October. So I asked him, I said, do you ever
- 39:23Speaker 1: wind up sort in the back of your head hoping
- 39:27Speaker 1: that you don't make the playoffs.
- 39:28Speaker 3: He's like, no, Well, football is tough because our seri screwed. Yeah,
- 39:34Speaker 3: if you're the worst team of the best team, we
- 39:36Speaker 3: start in late July and we go all the way through.
- 39:39Speaker 3: You know, the super Bowl goes through the first or
- 39:41Speaker 3: second week of February. Now, but even if you don't
- 39:43Speaker 3: make the playoffs, you're finishing January first second, So you
- 39:47Speaker 3: could forget all those good hunting seasons.
- 39:48Speaker 1: There's gotta be a lot of NFL guys like the
- 39:50Speaker 1: hunt turkeys, because the only thing you can do.
- 39:52Speaker 3: Honestly, there's there's not a lot of NFL players, And
- 39:56Speaker 3: I could be wrong. I could be wrong, but I
- 39:58Speaker 3: would say generally on each team you have a handful
- 40:02Speaker 3: of guys, but maybe two to four people who might
- 40:05Speaker 3: actually hunt. There's plenty of players who love to shoot guns,
- 40:09Speaker 3: and you know who might be getting into archery or whatnot.
- 40:12Speaker 3: But as far as putting the time, it's really difficult,
- 40:15Speaker 3: and it's not until after their career, much like myself,
- 40:17Speaker 3: that they start really diving into it. So they're just
- 40:19Speaker 3: because of the time thing, exactly, just because of the
- 40:21Speaker 3: time thing. It's just it's too difficult.
- 40:23Speaker 6: Now.
- 40:23Speaker 3: You hear stories of Brett Faarr just obviously having played
- 40:26Speaker 3: up in Green Bay. He show up, you know, he
- 40:27Speaker 3: go out, who knows four or five in the morning
- 40:29Speaker 3: and come back with bloody hands before a game. Yeah,
- 40:32Speaker 3: there's some wild stories about Brett Favr of his hunting
- 40:36Speaker 3: days and you know, just buck blood down the back
- 40:39Speaker 3: of his truck bed and whatnot. But yeah, otherwise it's
- 40:42Speaker 3: you know, I feel like there's not too many.
- 40:45Speaker 1: What is the in your mind, what's the hunting and
- 40:48Speaker 1: fishionists of the sports in terms of, like, you know,
- 40:52Speaker 1: of the pro sports, what ones are most inclined. It's
- 40:55Speaker 1: gotta be like hockey.
- 40:56Speaker 3: I would say hockey, just because I feel like hockey
- 40:59Speaker 3: is predominantly like Midwest East.
- 41:04Speaker 1: Yeah, not the order, because there's a hell of a
- 41:06Speaker 1: lot of hunters in the South. It just kind of
- 41:07Speaker 1: has that feel to it.
- 41:08Speaker 3: Yeah, I don't see many basketball players going out hunting.
- 41:11Speaker 3: I just don't. That doesn't seem like that's part of.
- 41:13Speaker 1: Their it's not culturally woven in.
- 41:15Speaker 3: I don't think so. Football.
- 41:17Speaker 1: You have a few. Remember we had the whole room
- 41:20Speaker 1: full of baseball players. It was the day the Walalleye
- 41:22Speaker 1: scandal broke. We played trivia though, those guys. Yeah, a
- 41:29Speaker 1: whole ship.
- 41:30Speaker 3: Yeah, but I don't know a team could have like
- 41:31Speaker 3: eighty pitchers.
- 41:35Speaker 1: It was like a roof of like a dozen dudes, Like,
- 41:38Speaker 1: are you sure you guys all pitched for the same team.
- 41:45Speaker 9: See.
- 41:45Speaker 10: I don't think I can name a single hockey player that,
- 41:48Speaker 10: like professional NHL player that put like hunts.
- 41:51Speaker 1: Oh, I don't know what. I have strong feelings about
- 41:55Speaker 1: things about that, right brother?
- 41:57Speaker 10: Oh Mike Fisher, Yeah, yeah, that's one.
- 42:02Speaker 1: What do you think is the hunting is pro sport baseball.
- 42:05Speaker 5: Baseball or football?
- 42:05Speaker 1: For well, wouldn't be football because you got to play football. Well,
- 42:08Speaker 1: baseball you might get done in time. No hockey.
- 42:11Speaker 10: The NHL hockey season starts in October and goes till June.
- 42:15Speaker 1: So they can't do They can't do the rut or
- 42:17Speaker 1: spring turkey, no, neither of them. But a baseball person
- 42:20Speaker 1: can hunt. Yeah, if they're no good.
- 42:26Speaker 5: What about a kicker?
- 42:29Speaker 3: Kickers just want a golf kickers are notorious for the
- 42:33Speaker 3: amazing golfers. Yes, because during practice and during training camp,
- 42:37Speaker 3: kickers have one job. It's to kick, So they don't
- 42:40Speaker 3: have to be in certain meanings. They gotta be in
- 42:41Speaker 3: team meetings and whatnot, but they don't have to be
- 42:43Speaker 3: it's a specialty. So while we practice for two hours,
- 42:46Speaker 3: they might be called up for two periods and once
- 42:48Speaker 3: you're kicking for you know, three minutes here and five
- 42:51Speaker 3: minutes there, whatever it may be.
- 42:52Speaker 1: They have a gravy job.
- 42:54Speaker 3: Yes and no. I you know, I'm actually really good
- 42:56Speaker 3: friends with our former Packers kicker Mason Crosby. But it's
- 43:02Speaker 3: you don't need to be at the peak physical fitness,
- 43:06Speaker 3: but at the same time, you're the first one they
- 43:08Speaker 3: want to blame when you miss the game winning kick.
- 43:10Speaker 3: When there's a million other plays throughout the game that
- 43:11Speaker 3: could have affected the game one way or the other.
- 43:13Speaker 1: There's a lot of people could have made a point,
- 43:15Speaker 1: but when he doesn't make a point, it's just.
- 43:17Speaker 3: It's probably one of the most stress filled jobs, especially
- 43:20Speaker 3: not for the kicker who might be able to see
- 43:21Speaker 3: past that unless he's got a case of the yips.
- 43:23Speaker 3: But you know, family members watch and at least with me,
- 43:26Speaker 3: you know, I get an opportunity or used to. You know,
- 43:28Speaker 3: fifty sixty seventy plays a game. You slip and fall,
- 43:31Speaker 3: No big deal. You miss a tackle, you'll get him
- 43:33Speaker 3: next play. You miss a kick, You're not getting him the.
- 43:35Speaker 2: Next hear it.
- 43:37Speaker 1: The only thing they do to you is you talked
- 43:40Speaker 1: about how you never had a sack display, you never
- 43:43Speaker 1: had a celebration, you never had a signature.
- 43:46Speaker 3: I had one for a little while. Yeah you had
- 43:47Speaker 3: a signature. Yeah, yeah, what was your signature?
- 43:49Speaker 1: Can you get up?
- 43:51Speaker 3: It's been a while. I might throw something out, but no.
- 43:54Speaker 3: I So my my first year, I would point in
- 43:59Speaker 3: my watch and like let everyone know what time it was.
- 44:01Speaker 3: And it was like that was that was my little thing,
- 44:03Speaker 3: and it was cool and yeah, just letting people know, yeah,
- 44:05Speaker 3: dame time. Right. And but my next year, my brother's like, hey,
- 44:09Speaker 3: you're gonna I got hurt in training camp and I
- 44:13Speaker 3: didn't come back until week one, so naturally have time
- 44:15Speaker 3: to you know, perfect your celebration. Everybody's got a celebration.
- 44:18Speaker 3: And and so for my brother goes, hey, my older
- 44:20Speaker 3: brother goes, you need to do something cool. Why don't
- 44:22Speaker 3: you remember that that scene and Predator when Arnold faces
- 44:26Speaker 3: off with Predator and the predator kind of outstretches his
- 44:29Speaker 3: arms like this and he flexes.
- 44:32Speaker 5: Yea, you need to do that.
- 44:34Speaker 3: And so I got a sack on the first third
- 44:36Speaker 3: down of the game, and in my head, I'm like,
- 44:38Speaker 3: you know, like arms going, remember how to do it? Yeah, exactly,
- 44:40Speaker 3: And it was the worst one. My hands were still
- 44:43Speaker 3: clanched and it looked like I was like sumo squatting
- 44:45Speaker 3: with it. But then I I kind of perfect a
- 44:47Speaker 3: little bit, and then I got it out there. This
- 44:49Speaker 3: is what I was doing. So that was my thing
- 44:50Speaker 3: for a while, and I remember that, and then, you know,
- 44:54Speaker 3: after after so many years and so many sacks, I'm
- 44:56Speaker 3: just kind of like, ah, right, you just kind of
- 44:58Speaker 3: just you do your thing. But yeah, everybody's yeah, there's
- 45:01Speaker 3: a there's yeah. It was something like that. Yeah, it
- 45:04Speaker 3: took the background.
- 45:05Speaker 1: Oh see, I thought when we were when we were
- 45:07Speaker 1: hunting ducks this morning, I kind of got a sense
- 45:09Speaker 1: that you were a little bit eye rolly about the celebration.
- 45:11Speaker 3: No, no, well, no, we were. We were talking about
- 45:14Speaker 3: somebody's family, you know. They they just come from a
- 45:16Speaker 3: different era where you know, the celebrate. It was all
- 45:18Speaker 3: about the team. But nowadays it's like everybody. You score
- 45:21Speaker 3: a touchdown, you get a sack, you tackle, Yeah, it's
- 45:24Speaker 3: all about you. You sell yourself. You're building the brand so well.
- 45:27Speaker 3: You know the old heads and you know exactly the
- 45:32Speaker 3: old heads, they it's more about the team. But nowadays,
- 45:34Speaker 3: you know they're trying to sell sell jerseys, sell you know, fans,
- 45:38Speaker 3: sell out venue.
- 45:39Speaker 5: I remember Joe Paterno used to say, act like you've
- 45:41Speaker 5: been there before.
- 45:43Speaker 1: M yeah, well, rehearsed celebration would convey to me that
- 45:47Speaker 1: they're quite, that they're quite.
- 45:49Speaker 5: He's very proficient to say it all the time. But
- 45:51Speaker 5: that just meant like, score your touchdowns are changing.
- 45:55Speaker 1: To yeah, yeah, meer state that got it in all
- 45:57Speaker 1: that trouble. Wasn't that him from Pens.
- 46:00Speaker 5: That was.
- 46:04Speaker 1: Yeah, Well Sandusky brought him down with him, didn't he. Yeah,
- 46:07Speaker 1: And here you are quoting him, well, quote, that's what
- 46:15Speaker 1: you've been there before.
- 46:16Speaker 5: I don't think I have any Stolin quotes.
- 46:18Speaker 6: No.
- 46:20Speaker 1: Uh, when you're on a team, how many like how
- 46:25Speaker 1: many of like how many other people do you like?
- 46:28Speaker 1: A lot? Like you just mentioned you're good friends with
- 46:30Speaker 1: the kicker how many Like if you had to imagine,
- 46:33Speaker 1: here's the whole lineup, there's gotta be some you can't
- 46:36Speaker 1: stand all right, Sure, some of you, like whatever, don't
- 46:39Speaker 1: really talk too much. Some are really good friends, Like
- 46:42Speaker 1: what's that split look like?
- 46:43Speaker 3: Well, you know, I think the first thing is, and
- 46:45Speaker 3: not to get politically correct, but you're working towards a
- 46:48Speaker 3: common goal, so you get along with everybody, and you
- 46:51Speaker 3: you're accountable to one another. But that being said, what's
- 46:55Speaker 3: great about the locker room is you can have a
- 46:57Speaker 3: guy who grew up in the suburbs of l A
- 46:59Speaker 3: hanging out with somebody from Miami, Florida, somebody from Maine
- 47:04Speaker 3: up to Oregon, you know, working towards a common goal.
- 47:06Speaker 3: So it brings people together that you'd never have an
- 47:08Speaker 3: opportunity or you would never think that you would get
- 47:10Speaker 3: along with. So I'll preface all that by saying that,
- 47:14Speaker 3: but those yeah, and.
- 47:15Speaker 1: I get it's true. It's true though, Okay, yeah, because
- 47:17Speaker 1: the rivalries can't.
- 47:20Speaker 3: But some of my best friends to this day, I mean,
- 47:22Speaker 3: are guys where you I would get together with them,
- 47:24Speaker 3: and it would you know, we'd look like one of
- 47:25Speaker 3: these Hollywood movies of the two cops.
- 47:28Speaker 1: You know, you got the white guy and the black guy, and.
- 47:30Speaker 3: Then that's that's how it would be. But your closest
- 47:34Speaker 3: with your position group, you spend the most time. For me,
- 47:36Speaker 3: it was a linebacker, so there was a group of
- 47:38Speaker 3: maybe seven or eight of us in a in a
- 47:40Speaker 3: room and that's you know, we spend all our time together.
- 47:43Speaker 3: And then you break out to go to for defense,
- 47:46Speaker 3: to defensive meetings, so you've got half the team there,
- 47:49Speaker 3: and then when you have a team meeting, so you
- 47:50Speaker 3: don't spend a whole a great deal of time with
- 47:53Speaker 3: the offense for me personally forging those relationships, but I
- 47:57Speaker 3: do have some of my best relationship with the offense
- 48:00Speaker 3: lineman who I went against and played against excuse me
- 48:04Speaker 3: the most. But to answer your question, yeah, I mean
- 48:08Speaker 3: that that there's guys that you really click with, but
- 48:10Speaker 3: they're generally going to be in your position group. And
- 48:12Speaker 3: then it kind of it furthers itself out based on
- 48:15Speaker 3: how much you're together with them, because from the time
- 48:17Speaker 3: you get there, everything structured. You show up at this time,
- 48:19Speaker 3: you have special teams meetings, then it goes a team
- 48:21Speaker 3: meaning then you go to defensive meeting. Then you go
- 48:23Speaker 3: to you know, you break out for walkthrough, then you
- 48:25Speaker 3: have workout. It's so you're structured and who you're with,
- 48:28Speaker 3: so you just hope that you're with a good group
- 48:30Speaker 3: of guys.
- 48:30Speaker 1: Mm hmm.
- 48:31Speaker 2: I'm sure there was that one guy though not nah, there's.
- 48:35Speaker 3: There's never that one guy because they don't last long.
- 48:38Speaker 3: You know, you gotta you kind of got to buy in.
- 48:41Speaker 1: What was the if you think back that you grew
- 48:44Speaker 1: up without the exposure to the outdoors and now you're
- 48:48Speaker 1: you know, you're in a position where you can start
- 48:50Speaker 1: doing some honting and have been taking advantage of that situation.
- 48:53Speaker 1: Can you what was your first awareness that this was
- 48:56Speaker 1: a thing people did.
- 48:59Speaker 3: Probably when I got out to Green Bay. I remember
- 49:02Speaker 3: when I got drafted. I was, you know, I had
- 49:04Speaker 3: to was still using Wikipedia to find out where Wisconsin
- 49:08Speaker 3: was on the map green Bay. I know there's so
- 49:10Speaker 3: much history, but I had to look it up. I
- 49:12Speaker 3: had no idea where I was. I remember, because you
- 49:13Speaker 3: were one age well I was, I was twenty two.
- 49:17Speaker 3: But you just you're from the West coast, you know,
- 49:19Speaker 3: like the East, but you don't study the Midwest, and
- 49:21Speaker 3: so at least.
- 49:22Speaker 1: I didn't and no, it's pretty you know. Yeah, and
- 49:25Speaker 1: so that's not that's not crazy that Like I grew
- 49:28Speaker 1: up Michigan. If you'd have told me, if you just said, oh, uh,
- 49:35Speaker 1: Salt Lake City, right, I've been like, yeah, utah, how
- 49:39Speaker 1: that fits into the broader like what touches that you
- 49:42Speaker 1: know at that age.
- 49:43Speaker 3: But when I was flying in, it was you know,
- 49:46Speaker 3: everything was green. I flew in in you know, spring,
- 49:50Speaker 3: and it was beautiful. But then once I got there,
- 49:53Speaker 3: I mean I can't name an exact time or place,
- 49:56Speaker 3: but just being around the culture, more than anything of hunting, fishing, outdoor,
- 50:01Speaker 3: I think just kind of helped bring that out. Because
- 50:03Speaker 3: I was there, you know for so long, for ten years,
- 50:07Speaker 3: I think you just kind of immerse yourself in that
- 50:09Speaker 3: culture and you assimilate. And there was just opportunities to
- 50:12Speaker 3: go white tail huntings, to go turkey hunting where people
- 50:15Speaker 3: are like, hey, you know, come along, you know, And
- 50:17Speaker 3: so I picked it up and had a blast doing it.
- 50:21Speaker 1: Everybody walking around with a bag of jerky snack sticks
- 50:24Speaker 1: in your back pocket.
- 50:25Speaker 3: Oh you got to go to a tailgate at Lambo.
- 50:27Speaker 3: I mean there's there's there's beer, cheese, and brots. So
- 50:32Speaker 3: you can't go wrong with that.
- 50:33Speaker 4: I thought you were gonna throw the mosquitos in there
- 50:35Speaker 4: at some point. So yeah, mosquitoes are are there bad
- 50:39Speaker 4: mosquitoes up there? I guess I didn't go far enough north.
- 50:44Speaker 3: In the parking lot.
- 50:44Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, not in the fall July, I know, I'm yeah.
- 50:49Speaker 3: J Lie is not too bad for I mean where
- 50:51Speaker 3: we were. I'm sure if maybe up in the north
- 50:53Speaker 3: Woods or it could get pretty bad, but where we are.
- 50:56Speaker 3: You know, when they tell you to make that hand
- 50:57Speaker 3: of where you know Green Bay is, I guess no.
- 51:00Speaker 1: They don't do that hand for Wisconsin to do that.
- 51:02Speaker 3: Yeah, like you hold it up like the territorial there.
- 51:06Speaker 1: That's Michigan, dude.
- 51:07Speaker 2: Yeah, but they got county door County is.
- 51:10Speaker 1: Right, Yeah, Wisconsin will throw the hand. Yeah he's called
- 51:14Speaker 1: that miss Michigan. Yeah, yeah, that's terrible.
- 51:22Speaker 5: Yeah podcast having a kids show?
- 51:31Speaker 3: Was there much of a rivalry between just growing up
- 51:33Speaker 3: in Michigan, Like even outside of football, if you're not
- 51:35Speaker 3: the biggest sports fan, just like Michigan versus are Wisconsin
- 51:39Speaker 3: versus you know, Illinois.
- 51:41Speaker 1: Or here's the deal with My mom was from Illinois
- 51:44Speaker 1: and she remained my dad didn't know any about sports
- 51:46Speaker 1: at all. Uh, my mom was a big sports fan.
- 51:50Speaker 1: She had been raised in Illinois and what was when
- 51:54Speaker 1: she was a kid, like farm Country, which became a
- 51:56Speaker 1: big Chicago suburb, Neighborville. But she remained so dedicated to
- 52:01Speaker 1: the Chicago teams. She like the Cubs, the White Sox,
- 52:05Speaker 1: and we all like she was religious about the Bears, right, Okay,
- 52:10Speaker 1: she would be out there. There was a I still
- 52:12Speaker 1: some weird way I remember this. There's a radio. There's
- 52:16Speaker 1: a radio station. There's a talk radio station in Chicago, WGN,
- 52:20Speaker 1: And my mom actually had an antenna and would always
- 52:26Speaker 1: be messing with this antenna on the roof. It was
- 52:29Speaker 1: the ante's on the roof. She wouldn't be on the
- 52:30Speaker 1: roof mess with my dad would be or whatever. But
- 52:32Speaker 1: she would just listen to WGN and would sit and
- 52:37Speaker 1: listen to baseball games, and would sit and listen to
- 52:40Speaker 1: football games on the radio.
- 52:43Speaker 3: It's a great rivalry. I mean, I think it's so.
- 52:45Speaker 1: I'm not aware of who she viewed the rivals to be,
- 52:47Speaker 1: but I know that one of the highlights of her life.
- 52:51Speaker 1: She's still alive. One of the highlights of her life
- 52:53Speaker 1: was whatever the hell it was nineteen eighty four or
- 52:56Speaker 1: something and the Bears, you know, trounced the Patriots.
- 53:00Speaker 3: Oh yeah, yeah, I think was it the eighty five
- 53:01Speaker 3: Bears when they yeah, eighty.
- 53:03Speaker 1: Five Bears, Jim McMahon, Fridge, Perry, Mike Single, Super Bowl Shuffle, Yeah,
- 53:10Speaker 1: the album they had. My mom had that album. Nice,
- 53:15Speaker 1: but that was my that was my exposure as a kid, Like,
- 53:18Speaker 1: that's what I knew about football. Was I knew about
- 53:19Speaker 1: my mom listening watching, you know, following the Chicago teams
- 53:23Speaker 1: because she just felt, I don't know, that part of
- 53:27Speaker 1: her never went away even though they lived in Michigan.
- 53:29Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 53:29Speaker 3: Well, growing up in LA you just don't have rivalries
- 53:31Speaker 3: like that, and moving out there and just it's it's
- 53:34Speaker 3: a big deal of where you're from, who you root for,
- 53:37Speaker 3: and you know how much it means to them, not
- 53:40Speaker 3: just the team, but the whole state, the city that
- 53:43Speaker 3: you get that win, whether it's the Bears, like you
- 53:45Speaker 3: had mentioned, White Sox, Cubs or Brewers, Packers, Bucks. I mean,
- 53:51Speaker 3: it's it's big out there.
- 53:52Speaker 1: You know. Here it's a little bit funny because you
- 53:56Speaker 1: guys be able to tell me better me, but there's
- 53:59Speaker 1: no team, Okay, no professional team, and then you go
- 54:04Speaker 1: up one state South Wyoming, there's no professional team. I
- 54:07Speaker 1: feel like it's just a grab bag. There's no like,
- 54:09Speaker 1: there's no sort of there's no I was living in
- 54:12Speaker 1: Seattle when when when the Seahawks, I don't know what.
- 54:16Speaker 1: Hell six years ago, six years ago the Seahawks won.
- 54:22Speaker 1: I remember I went to run Errand during that Super
- 54:25Speaker 1: Bowl game. I'm not I'm not kidding when I say this.
- 54:29Speaker 1: I was going through downtown Seattle running an errand I
- 54:34Speaker 1: was up on I went through Capitol Hill. There were
- 54:37Speaker 1: no I'm not kidding you, there were no cars on
- 54:41Speaker 1: the road. You're like, what's going on today? And it was,
- 54:45Speaker 1: But there's nothing like that here. Well know, some guys like,
- 54:47Speaker 1: oh I like this team that team. Yeah, obviously right.
- 54:52Speaker 4: So that's one of the only stations that we had
- 54:54Speaker 4: in Montana before cable and all that stuff, when you
- 54:57Speaker 4: had WGN WGN so broadcast. I watched a lot of
- 55:02Speaker 4: Cubs games, so they would broadcast the Cubs and the Braves,
- 55:09Speaker 4: and so consequently there were a lot of Cubs and
- 55:11Speaker 4: Braves fans in Montana because of w g N. And
- 55:15Speaker 4: then you would get yeah, you're right, for like pro football.
- 55:19Speaker 4: It would be kind of like a grab bag of
- 55:22Speaker 4: so they were like consequently like some Falcons fans once
- 55:26Speaker 4: that happened, because people were already Braves fans. But lots
- 55:31Speaker 4: of stories are like, oh, my kids liked the Bengals.
- 55:34Speaker 4: I grew up with some kids in Missoula who are
- 55:37Speaker 4: just like diehard Bengals fans because why who knows. One
- 55:40Speaker 4: of the brothers was like into them as a kid,
- 55:42Speaker 4: and so the whole family just became Bengals fans. There
- 55:47Speaker 4: are a lot There are a lot of Packers fans.
- 55:51Speaker 4: Oh yeah, and that bar that I bar attended in
- 55:53Speaker 4: uh Red's in Missoula, there was always a big contingent
- 55:58Speaker 4: of Packers fans that would come down and watch those games.
- 56:01Speaker 1: The guys I hunt with in Wisconsin, uh this guy
- 56:04Speaker 1: told you about pack Dirk, And he's got a big
- 56:06Speaker 1: Packers sticker on his truck. You know, he's got stickers
- 56:10Speaker 1: on his truck of different famous bucks that have been killed,
- 56:13Speaker 1: like the silhouette of the famous bucks that have been killed.
- 56:16Speaker 1: His topper is like made out of plywood on his truck.
- 56:19Speaker 1: Really and then he's got Packers stickers, big Packers fan.
- 56:22Speaker 1: But those guys used to joke that when the Packers
- 56:24Speaker 1: were playing, you could hunt anywhere you want. There was
- 56:31Speaker 1: your one chance to go hunt the neighbors place and
- 56:33Speaker 1: just know you were no way to know how to
- 56:35Speaker 1: get caught.
- 56:36Speaker 2: Clay. Do you do you think some of that culture
- 56:39Speaker 2: that you were there like stuck with you because there's
- 56:42Speaker 2: I can go and see this say hey, I'm Chester
- 56:45Speaker 2: from Wisconsin. If it's another person from Wisconsin, it's like immediate,
- 56:50Speaker 2: like you know, connection. Do you think any of that
- 56:53Speaker 2: that culture stuck with you? And do you do you
- 56:56Speaker 2: have you have a place back in Wisconsin stilf.
- 56:59Speaker 3: Oh, No, I saw that so fast? You kidding me?
- 57:01Speaker 2: I got that.
- 57:03Speaker 5: I was gonna say, there's only one right answer here.
- 57:06Speaker 9: No.
- 57:06Speaker 3: I will say though, that when I meet people from
- 57:09Speaker 3: you know, when I meet people from Wisconsin or happened
- 57:11Speaker 3: to hear them, it's a great kind of segue into
- 57:14Speaker 3: that if you know they're not a Packers fan or whatnot,
- 57:16Speaker 3: where they lived in the state, there is that little
- 57:20Speaker 3: bit of connection. Even from my ten years there. You know,
- 57:22Speaker 3: it's like you're an honorary Wisconsin I just because you
- 57:25Speaker 3: spend time up there. It just seems at least I
- 57:27Speaker 3: don't know how. I mean, obviously, you know, growing up
- 57:28Speaker 3: in La there weren't people from Wisconsin out there.
- 57:31Speaker 1: But can you tell chesters from Wisconsin?
- 57:37Speaker 3: Say, you bet you?
- 57:38Speaker 2: And yeah, although oh you bet you. Yeah.
- 57:41Speaker 3: They got all the women out there, the older women
- 57:44Speaker 3: in Wisconsin, the thickest accidents in a very particular haircut too.
- 57:49Speaker 2: Yeah. Where is she from? Like, not from you know,
- 57:55Speaker 2: the US. I think she's from somewhere.
- 57:57Speaker 3: Country, from Wisconsin.
- 58:00Speaker 1: But what's it like to become you know, we keep
- 58:04Speaker 1: goofing about Wisconsin and all that. I mean, do you
- 58:08Speaker 1: ever does it ever? Do you get tired of the
- 58:10Speaker 1: whole thing? Like it's like yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 58:12Speaker 1: I played for the Packers.
- 58:14Speaker 3: But do I need to be like Wisconsin's you know,
- 58:17Speaker 3: no spokesman. I think I think it's more so. No,
- 58:21Speaker 3: I don't get I don't get tired of it. In fact,
- 58:23Speaker 3: the more I'm removed from Wisconsin and the Packers, just
- 58:26Speaker 3: like anything, the more you come to appreciate. And my
- 58:28Speaker 3: wife and yeah, my wife and I were reminiscing, you know,
- 58:32Speaker 3: because when most guys get drafted or move to Wisconsin,
- 58:36Speaker 3: oh gosh, there's nothing to do out there. And then
- 58:39Speaker 3: you know what I'm talking about. I'm talking about twenty
- 58:42Speaker 3: two year old football players. You know, twenty one year
- 58:45Speaker 3: old they want to Hey, these athletes want to hunt
- 58:48Speaker 3: something else, all right, Well, but we were reminiscing over
- 58:51Speaker 3: it just you know, because we have a young family.
- 58:53Speaker 3: You know, the parks and where we lived in the neighborhoods,
- 58:56Speaker 3: and how well we were treated out there, and I think, yeah,
- 59:00Speaker 3: our time up there was fantastic. I really enjoyed it,
- 59:03Speaker 3: and there's certain aspects that I miss. I was able
- 59:05Speaker 3: to get back this past year to do some walleye
- 59:08Speaker 3: and king salmon fishing up on Lake Michigan, and it
- 59:12Speaker 3: was back at Lambeau for two of my teammates were
- 59:14Speaker 3: putting the Packers Hall of Fame. And now my kids
- 59:17Speaker 3: are such big Packers fans too. So the human element
- 59:20Speaker 3: of when they tell you they don't want you anymore
- 59:21Speaker 3: where you're like these sons of you know, you come
- 59:25Speaker 3: full circle and you grow up a little bit and
- 59:27Speaker 3: you're like, yeah, all right, okay, all right, go pack it.
- 59:29Speaker 1: So you spent you spent ten years there, ten years
- 59:31Speaker 1: and then finished your career a year in LA for
- 59:33Speaker 1: the Rams.
- 59:34Speaker 3: Yes, what was that like? La was fun. It was
- 59:37Speaker 3: a lot of fun for me personally.
- 59:38Speaker 1: We've been back home.
- 59:40Speaker 3: No, it was great. It almost made the season go
- 59:43Speaker 3: by even faster because I was training and I was
- 59:46Speaker 3: just so lucky that the RAMS facilities were all of
- 59:49Speaker 3: twenty minutes from where I grew up out there, so
- 59:52Speaker 3: my parents, my family were able to come to every game. Practice.
- 59:55Speaker 3: The weather it's a lot warmer than it is in Wisconsin.
- 1:00:00Speaker 3: Physical therapy, massage therapists, the gym in which I trained
- 1:00:05Speaker 3: at was all right there, so everything was already how
- 1:00:07Speaker 3: I spent my off seasons. Now I was just there
- 1:00:09Speaker 3: year round, so it was it was real fun. In fact,
- 1:00:12Speaker 3: I thought I was going to do that for much longer.
- 1:00:14Speaker 3: But you know, they had other plans.
- 1:00:18Speaker 1: When we were duck out this morning, I was asking
- 1:00:20Speaker 1: you about what you were talking about. Get your jaw
- 1:00:23Speaker 1: broke and they wired your jaws shut. Yeah, And it
- 1:00:26Speaker 1: was an interesting detail I never thought of. You were
- 1:00:28Speaker 1: telling me that they give you a wirecutter.
- 1:00:30Speaker 3: Yeah, in case you got a puke or something. Yeah.
- 1:00:33Speaker 1: Yeah, they needed to be ready to get your mouth
- 1:00:36Speaker 1: back open.
- 1:00:37Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 1:00:37Speaker 1: But I was asking you, what's the relationship between when
- 1:00:40Speaker 1: you injure someone bad someone injures you. Is there any
- 1:00:45Speaker 1: sense of obligation to like acknowledge that, and you're saying
- 1:00:48Speaker 1: this is not part of the culture.
- 1:00:49Speaker 3: It's not part of the culture. Now, I think if
- 1:00:52Speaker 3: it was accident, well, they're always accidental, I mean very
- 1:00:55Speaker 3: rarely are there, you know, malicious heads or something. Yeah, intentional,
- 1:00:58Speaker 3: But I think if you were to tear somebody's knee
- 1:01:01Speaker 3: up or a season ender, you might reach out and
- 1:01:08Speaker 3: you know, offer your condolences to them. But I just
- 1:01:10Speaker 3: feel like it's not in the culture. I mean, I
- 1:01:11Speaker 3: got absolutely blind side up in Philly. Guy peeled back
- 1:01:15Speaker 3: on me, lit me up, landed on my labor, and
- 1:01:17Speaker 3: I tore it up. I still deal with problem. I
- 1:01:19Speaker 3: haven't heard from it, and I don't expect him to.
- 1:01:21Speaker 3: It's part of the game. But you know, on the
- 1:01:24Speaker 3: flip side of that, I can't how many guys I broke.
- 1:01:26Speaker 3: There was a quarterback who I broke his arm just
- 1:01:30Speaker 3: with my helmet. I went to hit him. Actually, I
- 1:01:32Speaker 3: think he was playing for the Bears. You can't remember
- 1:01:35Speaker 3: the guy's name, Hoyer, Brian Brian Hoyer.
- 1:01:38Speaker 1: You don't send him.
- 1:01:39Speaker 2: Flowers, no, But it's just you probably should it's kind of.
- 1:01:44Speaker 1: Foot hunt. Well, I would, it's an excellent part of
- 1:01:49Speaker 1: I'd be. I'd be doing everything I could for Philly.
- 1:01:52Speaker 3: It's a little different, but I'll go with that and
- 1:01:54Speaker 3: just say it's kind of that next man up, Like
- 1:01:56Speaker 3: you're on a you feel bad. There's the human element
- 1:01:58Speaker 3: of that. You're like, oh, man, like you put yourself
- 1:02:00Speaker 3: in that position. It's the you know why me? But
- 1:02:03Speaker 3: I mean you can't. You're onto the next play. You know,
- 1:02:06Speaker 3: you're onto the next game. You can't focus on that.
- 1:02:08Speaker 3: It's a very cold business.
- 1:02:09Speaker 4: Maybe just have some just sign one of those posters
- 1:02:13Speaker 4: of you doing that, and.
- 1:02:21Speaker 1: Remember was it was it? Who was it?
- 1:02:24Speaker 6: Not?
- 1:02:25Speaker 1: Name it? Who got the compound fracture on National TV? Yeah,
- 1:02:32Speaker 1: now there's the dude. So I don't remember who did
- 1:02:34Speaker 1: easy to find out. There's some dude out there that
- 1:02:37Speaker 1: is saying, man I gave that dude Lawrence Taylor.
- 1:02:42Speaker 3: No, I think he's.
- 1:02:43Speaker 1: Not like man I gave that guy a compound fractures.
- 1:02:46Speaker 3: He can pick any he's the best, arguably the best
- 1:02:49Speaker 3: defensive player to I've ever played the game. So he's
- 1:02:52Speaker 3: got a long he's got better accolades than you know.
- 1:02:55Speaker 3: I broke this guy's But that messes you up though,
- 1:02:57Speaker 3: when you see a compound fracture or something point the other.
- 1:03:00Speaker 3: It's one thing when a guy blows out his knee
- 1:03:02Speaker 3: just but you don't really see it. You see the
- 1:03:03Speaker 3: guy down. But when a you know, a guy lifts
- 1:03:05Speaker 3: his leg up and it's pointing this. Oh, you know,
- 1:03:07Speaker 3: it's like the it's a the Damar Hamlin. Are you
- 1:03:11Speaker 3: familiar what happened to the Damar Hamlin on the Bills?
- 1:03:14Speaker 3: I think this was his last year or two years ago. Yeah,
- 1:03:18Speaker 3: And so I mean.
- 1:03:19Speaker 1: That remind people because I'm I remember this. But from
- 1:03:22Speaker 1: when you were going to say that, I thought you
- 1:03:23Speaker 1: were going to say the guy that the hockey player.
- 1:03:26Speaker 3: Yeah, but yeah, Damar went to make a routine tackle
- 1:03:30Speaker 3: and you guys have to film me on what it
- 1:03:31Speaker 3: was called. But I guess he took such a shock
- 1:03:34Speaker 3: to the chest that it gave heart attack. Yeah, he
- 1:03:36Speaker 3: gave him heart attack and he just he fell down
- 1:03:38Speaker 3: on the field. They had to do chess. You know,
- 1:03:43Speaker 3: it's not CPR, but the chest compressions and everything on
- 1:03:47Speaker 3: the field, and you're just watching it at home, like
- 1:03:49Speaker 3: just we just watch somebody die on the field, and
- 1:03:51Speaker 3: I guess he did die for you know, all intents
- 1:03:53Speaker 3: and purposes, and so they called the rest of that
- 1:03:55Speaker 3: game off there that we're done. It just it messes
- 1:03:57Speaker 3: with you. And I'm going off on a tangent able
- 1:04:00Speaker 3: to let you know that that you know, it is
- 1:04:01Speaker 3: bigger than sports. But yeah, with certain injuries, it's almost
- 1:04:06Speaker 3: like you're you know, you're onto the next one. But
- 1:04:07Speaker 3: with others, you're just like, that's that's, that's it. You
- 1:04:10Speaker 3: know that.
- 1:04:11Speaker 1: American hockey player that recently was killed and he's on
- 1:04:14Speaker 1: a European league. Yeah, Adam Johnson caught a skate, caught
- 1:04:18Speaker 1: a skate cut his juggler.
- 1:04:20Speaker 5: Which is insane.
- 1:04:21Speaker 1: Oh yeah, well my daughter plays high I can remember. Yeah,
- 1:04:24Speaker 1: my daughter plays hockey. A couple of days after that, dude,
- 1:04:28Speaker 1: I'm not kidding you. Every girl net guards, well it's
- 1:04:30Speaker 1: actually she's on co eds. Boys and girls all net guards.
- 1:04:34Speaker 1: And on top of my daughter's all scared of someone
- 1:04:35Speaker 1: cutting her throat with a skate. I'm like, Rosie, Yeah,
- 1:04:39Speaker 1: I appreciate man, how many people are playing hockey for
- 1:04:42Speaker 1: how long and they can point to one guy like
- 1:04:46Speaker 1: you're not going to also go out there and get
- 1:04:49Speaker 1: and also trying to explain it. These people are two
- 1:04:51Speaker 1: hundred and fifty pounds.
- 1:04:51Speaker 10: Yeah, I think there's only been like you. There's only
- 1:04:56Speaker 10: been like two or three deaths ever in high with
- 1:05:00Speaker 10: a skate getting.
- 1:05:02Speaker 1: So there's more than one. Yeah, I was telling that
- 1:05:06Speaker 1: was the only one.
- 1:05:07Speaker 10: No, I know, there's a goalie and there was like
- 1:05:09Speaker 10: one other.
- 1:05:09Speaker 1: Yeah, she's nervous.
- 1:05:10Speaker 4: I mean, how much are we going to whine about
- 1:05:12Speaker 4: that there's two or three fatalities?
- 1:05:14Speaker 5: Max, Come on.
- 1:05:16Speaker 3: But we enjoyed watching at home with our beaters and yeah,
- 1:05:19Speaker 3: oh that.
- 1:05:20Speaker 1: Was harrowing though. Just this is just one of those freak
- 1:05:22Speaker 1: I heard about it. A guy like my neighbor's friend.
- 1:05:26Speaker 1: He pairing. This guy broke a ski pole and ran
- 1:05:33Speaker 1: that broken into the ski pole right up into the
- 1:05:35Speaker 1: joint of his leg and growing already. And the guy
- 1:05:38Speaker 1: was dead in seconds on the snow, thirty some years old.
- 1:05:43Speaker 1: Man makes you makes the inside of your leg hurt.
- 1:05:56Speaker 4: Clay and I had a great conversation when I was
- 1:06:00Speaker 4: dropping them.
- 1:06:00Speaker 5: Off at at the hotel. We got to get into
- 1:06:04Speaker 5: a land management. But more and more so.
- 1:06:07Speaker 1: Than that, I do want to get into his land management.
- 1:06:10Speaker 4: Go ahead, uh, you know, because you're a fly around
- 1:06:14Speaker 4: the field kind of meat stick head thumper.
- 1:06:19Speaker 5: Your word's not mine.
- 1:06:20Speaker 4: I'm pretty sure you said that today.
- 1:06:23Speaker 3: I was gonna say it came very naturally to.
- 1:06:27Speaker 6: No.
- 1:06:27Speaker 4: But we were talking about soil ecology, soil health and
- 1:06:33Speaker 4: just some of what you're getting into, and like exploring
- 1:06:35Speaker 4: the American chestnut.
- 1:06:37Speaker 5: How's that for a turn of conversation, right?
- 1:06:40Speaker 3: Well, yeah, I mean we we we kind of put
- 1:06:42Speaker 3: the we. When I was done playing, we were building
- 1:06:45Speaker 3: a house in California, moved out there where your typical
- 1:06:48Speaker 3: you know, COVID family. We reassessed and we moved outside
- 1:06:52Speaker 3: of Nashville now, and we were lucky because we pretty
- 1:06:57Speaker 3: much purchased two hundred acres and it's got farm land's
- 1:07:00Speaker 3: got a year round running water, four acre spring fed pond,
- 1:07:05Speaker 3: hardwoods backs up to the Natchez Trace.
- 1:07:07Speaker 2: I know we were talking about that earlier.
- 1:07:09Speaker 1: But you'll find ladies and gentlemen, you'll find mention of
- 1:07:12Speaker 1: the Natchez Trace in Long Hunters Available in American History
- 1:07:16Speaker 1: A bailable now, seventeen sixty one, seventeen seventy five.
- 1:07:20Speaker 2: And I already pitched him on that too.
- 1:07:21Speaker 1: It's good good.
- 1:07:22Speaker 3: Well, I just I you know, I find myself as
- 1:07:25Speaker 3: soon as the kids are dropped off at school, I
- 1:07:27Speaker 3: just go down there and I I mean, there's there's
- 1:07:30Speaker 3: I can get into anything, you know, see what's going on. Yeah,
- 1:07:33Speaker 3: whether it's just splitting wood or clear and brush. Recently
- 1:07:37Speaker 3: had the pond dredge, just because I know we had
- 1:07:40Speaker 3: talked about this. The oxygen levels were low. Yeah, too
- 1:07:43Speaker 3: much muck. So now that's filling back up.
- 1:07:45Speaker 1: When it drained it out. Was anything surprising in there?
- 1:07:49Speaker 3: No, there wasn't. I was fully expecting to find like
- 1:07:51Speaker 3: some Civil War era relics, giant fish. Oh no, you know,
- 1:07:56Speaker 3: it was kind of It wasn't very satisfying because I
- 1:07:59Speaker 3: just assume there would be a pool of fish at
- 1:08:02Speaker 3: the end that you could you know, fish and get
- 1:08:04Speaker 3: them out. But they, unfortunately, they slowly died because this
- 1:08:07Speaker 3: was middle of summer. The water was too hot and
- 1:08:09Speaker 3: so they just piled up on the shore.
- 1:08:11Speaker 1: And but no, like, oh my god, that was in here.
- 1:08:13Speaker 3: No, but we had caught some big, some big bass
- 1:08:15Speaker 3: out of there, but nothing. There was a propane tank
- 1:08:17Speaker 3: in there. One of the many reasons why I, you know,
- 1:08:21Speaker 3: wanted it dredge to know what was going on. But
- 1:08:24Speaker 3: I started looking at trees to plant out there, you know,
- 1:08:27Speaker 3: fruit trees and whatnot. And I think it was an
- 1:08:30Speaker 3: Instagram ad was you know, plant chestnut trees. It's it's
- 1:08:34Speaker 3: the it's the you know, it's what deer prefer over,
- 1:08:37Speaker 3: you know, every other. So I went down the rabbit
- 1:08:39Speaker 3: hole in that, and then I started researching the history
- 1:08:42Speaker 3: of the American chestnut and how it was the tree
- 1:08:46Speaker 3: of the Appalachias. And I think they're they're functionally and
- 1:08:50Speaker 3: stinked now because blight came over wiped them all out.
- 1:08:52Speaker 3: It was a main source of wood for everyone in
- 1:08:56Speaker 3: that area. The chestnuts were great for wildlife. You sell
- 1:08:59Speaker 3: them at Mark and very recently they've been able to
- 1:09:03Speaker 3: reintroduce them because they've been breathing them with the Chinese
- 1:09:06Speaker 3: chest Now I forgot.
- 1:09:07Speaker 1: We had a dude. We had a guy on about
- 1:09:11Speaker 1: GMOs and at the end he he works with him
- 1:09:18Speaker 1: and understands GMOs and the risks and perceived risks and everything.
- 1:09:22Speaker 1: And I remember at the end of the conversation, I
- 1:09:24Speaker 1: said to him, so, let's say you fell off a
- 1:09:26Speaker 1: tall building and you were falling and you had to
- 1:09:31Speaker 1: tell the world to pursue GMOs or not. Would you
- 1:09:36Speaker 1: say yes or no? He said, as I was falling,
- 1:09:39Speaker 1: I ou'd go maybe. But he told the story of
- 1:09:45Speaker 1: He says, if you're going to hack on GMOs, hear
- 1:09:48Speaker 1: me out on the American chestnut.
- 1:09:49Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, I mean, he told, yeah, they're coming back.
- 1:09:52Speaker 3: In fact, a lot of people who I kind of
- 1:09:54Speaker 3: running the same circle with, have started, you know, doing
- 1:09:58Speaker 3: their own research on it, only for wildlife and food plots,
- 1:10:01Speaker 3: but just for the history of it.
- 1:10:03Speaker 1: They changed like a gene and now it's resistant to
- 1:10:05Speaker 1: the blood.
- 1:10:06Speaker 3: So I planted one hundred and twenty one hundred and
- 1:10:08Speaker 3: nineteen's expensive. Uh no, but the ones I found weren't
- 1:10:14Speaker 3: I found them like I dug deep.
- 1:10:16Speaker 1: I had to drive down to not like one hundred
- 1:10:17Speaker 1: bucks pea.
- 1:10:18Speaker 3: No, no, no, no.
- 1:10:18Speaker 2: They weren't that.
- 1:10:19Speaker 3: But yeah, I had one. I think they were about
- 1:10:21Speaker 3: three years old. They were about anywhere from six to
- 1:10:23Speaker 3: eight feet. But I had one chestnut burr on all
- 1:10:28Speaker 3: the trees last year. I was so pumped to see it,
- 1:10:30Speaker 3: like open up and possibly they I have these, you know,
- 1:10:33Speaker 3: these chestnuts. It was I went back, it was gone,
- 1:10:35Speaker 3: Like I think some of the wildlife had already gotten
- 1:10:37Speaker 3: to it, but I didn't get a chance. So hopefully
- 1:10:39Speaker 3: this next year, now that they've had a chance to,
- 1:10:41Speaker 3: you know, kind of set their roots and whatnot, start
- 1:10:43Speaker 3: getting some production.
- 1:10:44Speaker 1: Yeah, so did you play them in the rolls or
- 1:10:45Speaker 1: try to plant them like a natural stand?
- 1:10:47Speaker 2: I'm so ocd.
- 1:10:48Speaker 3: I was out. I was out there. I bought all
- 1:10:51Speaker 3: these steaks. I bought this Mason string that had the stretch.
- 1:10:54Speaker 3: I drive to the front of my property on my range,
- 1:10:57Speaker 3: I look up and so when you pull in, you know,
- 1:10:59Speaker 3: you'll see it in. They're offset every thirty feet from
- 1:11:03Speaker 3: one another, and they're offset every fifteen so no matter
- 1:11:05Speaker 3: where you go, it's like an optical illusion. They all
- 1:11:07Speaker 3: line up perfect.
- 1:11:10Speaker 5: I feel real good.
- 1:11:11Speaker 3: And then I put all these which took like another
- 1:11:13Speaker 3: six weeks. I put all these tree tubes on them
- 1:11:15Speaker 3: as well. My fingers are so they're they're they're These
- 1:11:19Speaker 3: white tree tubes are about five feet Yeah, to push
- 1:11:22Speaker 3: to push the growth up with the zip ties, the
- 1:11:24Speaker 3: zip ties, and having to do that. I was so thankful.
- 1:11:27Speaker 3: I was done. And now, of course it's been a
- 1:11:28Speaker 3: year and I'm like, all right, I want to plan
- 1:11:30Speaker 3: another one hundred this year, or maybe I'm gonna move
- 1:11:32Speaker 3: on to pears or a different type of fruit.
- 1:11:35Speaker 1: So you've been digging that kind of stuff.
- 1:11:36Speaker 5: Well do you know about biochar? No hit them with that?
- 1:11:41Speaker 3: Well I just I just started learning about that as well,
- 1:11:44Speaker 3: because I guess they've been doing you you got to
- 1:11:48Speaker 3: fill me in this thing. Well, they've been doing this
- 1:11:49Speaker 3: in the Amazon for ages. This uh preda, I'm butchering it.
- 1:11:55Speaker 3: However you pronounce it's called black earth down there. But anyways,
- 1:11:58Speaker 3: biochar is when you burn organic matter through pyrolysis and
- 1:12:03Speaker 3: the absence of oxygen, so you have with charcoal and
- 1:12:06Speaker 3: by itself you put in the soil. It'll actually you know,
- 1:12:09Speaker 3: take the nutrients out, but you inoculate it with you know,
- 1:12:12Speaker 3: whatever it may be. Whether a lot of people will
- 1:12:14Speaker 3: put it in their their compost pile, their manure pile.
- 1:12:17Speaker 3: But this that I bought was inoculated with humate and
- 1:12:21Speaker 3: so now I just need to put it down and
- 1:12:23Speaker 3: it just helps. It helps the soil biology, the micro
- 1:12:26Speaker 3: organisms and the soil. So that type of stuff, which
- 1:12:29Speaker 3: you know, coming from pro sports football to wanting to
- 1:12:33Speaker 3: know about juiceing the soils nothing, you know, like that MPa,
- 1:12:37Speaker 3: you know all that in.
- 1:12:38Speaker 5: The soil now you were hanging out with the landscaping crew.
- 1:12:40Speaker 3: Right, No, No, I wasn't doing any of that, so
- 1:12:42Speaker 3: that that's you know. I was chopping wood one time.
- 1:12:44Speaker 3: My mom called, like what you grew up in the city,
- 1:12:47Speaker 3: Like what like like what happened? And I'm like, just
- 1:12:50Speaker 3: prep and I just I'd watched Where the World Ends
- 1:12:52Speaker 3: on Netflix. I'm over there, Kevin Bacon, you know, chopping
- 1:12:55Speaker 3: my wood and whatnot. So I don't know where it
- 1:12:57Speaker 3: came from, but I'm having a plast doing learning.
- 1:13:00Speaker 5: Yeah, you gotta connect with our buddy Doug.
- 1:13:03Speaker 9: So.
- 1:13:03Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 1:13:03Speaker 4: The the humus is a big is big buzzword and
- 1:13:07Speaker 4: the land management world right now because they're if by
- 1:13:16Speaker 4: just kind of reconstructing that soil biome, you can all
- 1:13:20Speaker 4: of a sudden grow things in soil that that people
- 1:13:24Speaker 4: didn't think were possible before. So humous is just like
- 1:13:28Speaker 4: super decomposed. It's like the ultra end result of a
- 1:13:34Speaker 4: really good compost pile.
- 1:13:36Speaker 3: Sure, yeah, I'd love to.
- 1:13:39Speaker 1: Uh explain your playing with you the landybot.
- 1:13:43Speaker 3: We're gonna live out there, but we like the idea
- 1:13:46Speaker 3: of just just being more independent, more self reliant and
- 1:13:50Speaker 3: less you know, dependent on on the supply chain. So
- 1:13:53Speaker 3: my wife, she's not a prepper, but she she loves
- 1:13:59Speaker 3: the idea of having this homestead, you know, growing our
- 1:14:01Speaker 3: own fruit and vegetables, having our own cattle and livestock
- 1:14:04Speaker 3: and chickens and whatnot, year round running water, as I discussed,
- 1:14:08Speaker 3: just you know, having that that fallback fail safe if
- 1:14:13Speaker 3: you know, if it hits the fan, you know. And
- 1:14:16Speaker 3: then on top of that, the opportunities to afford the children.
- 1:14:19Speaker 3: I've got three young children that I mean, they have
- 1:14:23Speaker 3: so much fun when they're there. Yeah, I mean it's
- 1:14:25Speaker 3: just yeah, it's just getting them off their iPads and
- 1:14:27Speaker 3: just getting them outdoors. They absolutely love it. It could just
- 1:14:30Speaker 3: be you know, I bring my kids there and they're
- 1:14:32Speaker 3: on their iPads. No, no, we don't want to go,
- 1:14:34Speaker 3: and then they don't want to leave because they're just
- 1:14:36Speaker 3: messing around building a dam in the creek, or they're
- 1:14:39Speaker 3: collecting you know, the acorns or black wallnuts, whatever it is.
- 1:14:43Speaker 3: They just have so much fun. So I think it's
- 1:14:45Speaker 3: the opportunities and yeah, really the opportunities that provides us
- 1:14:49Speaker 3: as a family.
- 1:14:50Speaker 4: You really no it's just interesting that you're in Tennessee
- 1:14:54Speaker 4: because I mean it's literal forty acres in a mule
- 1:14:57Speaker 4: country where it's like every forty acres has a spring.
- 1:15:01Speaker 4: You know, it's it's you can't what you can do
- 1:15:04Speaker 4: with forty acres in Tennessee versus what you can do
- 1:15:07Speaker 4: with forty acres in the vast majority of Montana is
- 1:15:12Speaker 4: so insanely different. Yeah, like your ability to actually.
- 1:15:16Speaker 1: You put like you put on there, it's going to destroy.
- 1:15:19Speaker 4: Yeah, and don't you probably don't want to drink the
- 1:15:21Speaker 4: water because it's so alkali, you know, it's like but
- 1:15:24Speaker 4: over there it's, yeah, it's wild. So where you where
- 1:15:28Speaker 4: are you at in the in the con Have you
- 1:15:31Speaker 4: started growing food yet?
- 1:15:33Speaker 3: We we have not started. Most of the gardening I
- 1:15:37Speaker 3: do is in our own backyard. We've got some raised
- 1:15:39Speaker 3: garden beds, and I've I've done everything from beats, carrots, tomatoes, pumpkins, watermelons, herbs.
- 1:15:47Speaker 3: I mean, I've done peppers. I've done quite a bit
- 1:15:49Speaker 3: of peppers. In fact, I even grew those Carolina reaper peppers.
- 1:15:53Speaker 3: That was a nightmare. They they they they grew, I mean,
- 1:15:56Speaker 3: they they were fantastic, but I put like a sliver
- 1:15:59Speaker 3: and one of my eggs, and then my stomach was
- 1:16:01Speaker 3: hurting for the next couple hours. It is that I
- 1:16:04Speaker 3: forget what it's that.
- 1:16:05Speaker 1: So it was as hot as you thought it was.
- 1:16:06Speaker 2: It's as hot as advertising.
- 1:16:08Speaker 3: I'm like, I'm gonna grow up the Carolina Reaper. I
- 1:16:10Speaker 3: got them to grow and everything. But as far as
- 1:16:12Speaker 3: the lands concerned, we just did some no till drilling
- 1:16:16Speaker 3: for some clover back there for a food plot for deer.
- 1:16:20Speaker 3: But we're getting ready to pour the foundation for our
- 1:16:23Speaker 3: barn out there. That'll be kind of like the central hangout,
- 1:16:25Speaker 3: planning on having a prep kitchen, like you know what
- 1:16:27Speaker 3: we we were at today and you know, having to
- 1:16:30Speaker 3: hang out while we build the house, just to get
- 1:16:32Speaker 3: down there a little bit more because right now there's
- 1:16:34Speaker 3: nothing there. There's no electricity. The kids, you know, after
- 1:16:36Speaker 3: those two or three hours, are ready to go home.
- 1:16:38Speaker 3: There's no you know, home base so to speak.
- 1:16:41Speaker 4: Walk in refrigerator, we can, we can really give you
- 1:16:44Speaker 4: the ideas for what you need out there.
- 1:16:45Speaker 3: We already have a little four by six walking refrigerator. Yeah,
- 1:16:48Speaker 3: we've already got it mapped up. We got a good
- 1:16:50Speaker 3: team working on it. But now we gotta we gotta
- 1:16:52Speaker 3: have an even better team bring the cost down because
- 1:16:54Speaker 3: good grief.
- 1:16:56Speaker 1: Yeah, uh, what were your impressions of hunting ducks this morning?
- 1:17:01Speaker 1: You never hunted ducks?
- 1:17:02Speaker 3: No, it was a blast turkeys. Turkeys is a lot
- 1:17:05Speaker 3: of fun. But as far as ducks, that that was.
- 1:17:07Speaker 3: That was a lot of fun. People had told me
- 1:17:10Speaker 3: for the longest time that elk hunting and duck hunting
- 1:17:12Speaker 3: are two of the best hunts, and I'm.
- 1:17:15Speaker 1: Gonna tell you that the turkeys are one of the best.
- 1:17:17Speaker 3: Turkey is a lot of fun. I think anything that
- 1:17:19Speaker 3: and that this doesn't go in line with duck, but
- 1:17:21Speaker 3: anything you can kind of hear and you can call
- 1:17:23Speaker 3: in and I can't really call, but you hear them
- 1:17:25Speaker 3: getting closer and you know something's out there.
- 1:17:27Speaker 2: It's it.
- 1:17:28Speaker 3: It kind of gets you going. But the ducks was
- 1:17:30Speaker 3: great because you know, you said, these decoys, you know,
- 1:17:33Speaker 3: you guys calling them in and you have an opportunity,
- 1:17:35Speaker 3: at least where we were at today. Every so often,
- 1:17:39Speaker 3: different varieties and and then obviously kind of you know,
- 1:17:42Speaker 3: test yourself with the shots that you got to place
- 1:17:44Speaker 3: on them.
- 1:17:44Speaker 5: So different shot scenarios. It was always the same thing.
- 1:17:47Speaker 1: But I had a blast too, and you're gonna get
- 1:17:50Speaker 1: a couple of ducks stuff. Yeah, I don't think I
- 1:17:52Speaker 1: was ever with someone. Maybe I'm wrong who who kept
- 1:17:56Speaker 1: the duck to get it stuffed? They've all got them,
- 1:17:58Speaker 1: but I just don't think I've ever been with some
- 1:18:00Speaker 1: and the got one that they were going to get stuff.
- 1:18:01Speaker 3: Well, my wife was like, she wants a bird, Yeah,
- 1:18:03Speaker 3: she wants she wants some birds. I told her I'd
- 1:18:05Speaker 3: bring home some, obviously some meat, but you know, she's like,
- 1:18:08Speaker 3: when are you gonna start getting some because ads on
- 1:18:11Speaker 3: the wall. You know, it's just and she's like, bringing
- 1:18:12Speaker 3: home some. The birds look good on the wall, you know.
- 1:18:15Speaker 10: So you can do a couple of cool arrangements like
- 1:18:18Speaker 10: hanging up by fishing line and flying, which would be
- 1:18:21Speaker 10: pretty cool.
- 1:18:22Speaker 3: Yeah, I'll have to. I spend enough time on Google images.
- 1:18:25Speaker 3: It's just like bird and mounts and I have.
- 1:18:28Speaker 4: A little fan mounted up there you can flip on.
- 1:18:30Speaker 4: Get everybody to wind up.
- 1:18:31Speaker 3: She might draw the line there.
- 1:18:35Speaker 1: Yeah, what I wanted to ask you about too, you
- 1:18:38Speaker 1: were you were talking about the debate in your head.
- 1:18:41Speaker 1: We discussed this a little bit this morning of what's
- 1:18:44Speaker 1: when do you get kids involved and you kind of
- 1:18:47Speaker 1: got in your head are you talking about you had
- 1:18:48Speaker 1: in your head like ten when I was sharing with
- 1:18:50Speaker 1: you in this state, ten is the legal age. Yeah, yeah,
- 1:18:54Speaker 1: talk talk about that or explain kind of how you've
- 1:18:57Speaker 1: debated that in your own head about.
- 1:18:59Speaker 3: Well there's there's this fun in line. You know, these
- 1:19:03Speaker 3: kids are so desensitized nowadays, but you want to teach
- 1:19:06Speaker 3: them the respect. You know, they see a dead animal.
- 1:19:08Speaker 3: You want to show them why you're doing this, Why
- 1:19:10Speaker 3: are we you know, how this is why we kill
- 1:19:12Speaker 3: animals because you know, we're trying to support us and
- 1:19:17Speaker 3: you know, keep everything in balance. And I've told them
- 1:19:23Speaker 3: as well too, because they were like, hey, can we
- 1:19:24Speaker 3: go hunt this? Can we do that? And so I
- 1:19:26Speaker 3: just make up an ambiguous age. It's against the law.
- 1:19:27Speaker 3: You have to be ten years old. So that kind
- 1:19:29Speaker 3: of that gives me some time to get my ducks
- 1:19:31Speaker 3: in a row to plan. Yeah, well, they asked for
- 1:19:33Speaker 3: we talked about they asked for a go kart. They
- 1:19:35Speaker 3: can I get this for You're not old enough and
- 1:19:37Speaker 3: I was like, besides, you have to be ten years
- 1:19:39Speaker 3: old before they so they let off it for a
- 1:19:42Speaker 3: little bit. But I've included them as much as possible,
- 1:19:45Speaker 3: but I just I feel like, for me personally, with
- 1:19:47Speaker 3: where my kids are at, I'm not really ready to
- 1:19:50Speaker 3: hand them a firearm.
- 1:19:51Speaker 6: Now.
- 1:19:51Speaker 3: You had mentioned which I thought was great, you know,
- 1:19:53Speaker 3: having your child on your lap when they do their
- 1:19:56Speaker 3: first turkey and.
- 1:19:57Speaker 1: They shot there. So my daughter got her first turkey
- 1:19:59Speaker 1: at eight. My boy got his first turkey at eight,
- 1:20:01Speaker 1: which in their home state they can't hunt at that age.
- 1:20:04Speaker 1: But we would go to a state that didn't have
- 1:20:06Speaker 1: the age requirements and they both shot their first turkeys.
- 1:20:08Speaker 1: But I mean literally in my lap.
- 1:20:11Speaker 3: Yeah. Now how they deal with the you know, waiting
- 1:20:13Speaker 3: in the blind and all that, because I feel like
- 1:20:15Speaker 3: I will sleep. Oh that would be my nightmare if
- 1:20:17Speaker 3: there's life, fall asleep.
- 1:20:19Speaker 1: Okay, man, he dragged kid out of bed like four
- 1:20:21Speaker 1: thirty in the morning. They're like, he's going to sleep. Yeah,
- 1:20:24Speaker 1: more matter. But our buddy on he's not here right now.
- 1:20:27Speaker 1: But he had these funny pictures of he hunted pretty
- 1:20:30Speaker 1: hard with his daughter this year. He's got these pictures
- 1:20:33Speaker 1: of her sleeping in the most just like awkward positions,
- 1:20:36Speaker 1: awkward spots, you know those uh, slumped over against a
- 1:20:39Speaker 1: tree sleep and.
- 1:20:41Speaker 4: What are the the like two dudes that like blow up,
- 1:20:44Speaker 4: you know, lots and stuff. Yeah, this series of photos
- 1:20:48Speaker 4: that it was his daughter as that you know, and
- 1:20:51Speaker 4: like you cut the fan off and it's just like
- 1:20:55Speaker 4: that's what I look.
- 1:20:55Speaker 1: But when I would take him out young sitting in
- 1:20:57Speaker 1: my lap because they get comfortable, you know, yeah, they're like,
- 1:21:00Speaker 1: oh yeah, you'd realize all of a sudden, you think
- 1:21:02Speaker 1: they're just being real good, and all of a sudden
- 1:21:03Speaker 1: you kind of hear like and when they breathe like that,
- 1:21:07Speaker 1: oh yeah, I just I just let them go, you know,
- 1:21:09Speaker 1: wake them up. But man, I don't know. There's different
- 1:21:11Speaker 1: there's different approaches people have. I hear people all the time.
- 1:21:16Speaker 1: I hear this so much that it must be true
- 1:21:18Speaker 1: that people are like reluctant to burn their kids out.
- 1:21:21Speaker 1: They don't want to give them a bad experience. They're
- 1:21:23Speaker 1: going to burn their kid out, you know, I don't
- 1:21:25Speaker 1: want to blow it right, that must happen, But it's
- 1:21:31Speaker 1: not been my experience. And of the kids that I'm
- 1:21:35Speaker 1: I have a lot of buddies that have kids in
- 1:21:37Speaker 1: our kids' ages, you know, in the age of year
- 1:21:40Speaker 1: my kids brackets and and who are push it, you know,
- 1:21:47Speaker 1: and I haven't seen that happen yet. I'm assuming it
- 1:21:50Speaker 1: must happen, but it might be from a past generation too,
- 1:21:52Speaker 1: because like I'm just so much nicer. I'm so much
- 1:21:58Speaker 1: I'm kind of mean to my oldest boy, but I'm
- 1:22:00Speaker 1: so much nicer to my kids than like my dad
- 1:22:04Speaker 1: was to me about hunting, just more considerate about their welcome.
- 1:22:09Speaker 3: I'm not opposed to, you know, any age restrictions and
- 1:22:13Speaker 3: kind of getting those kids out there and perhaps with
- 1:22:15Speaker 3: these people who have you know, putting on a it's
- 1:22:19Speaker 3: kind of a one and done deal, like we need
- 1:22:20Speaker 3: to kill something and if we don't, they're not gonna
- 1:22:22Speaker 3: have a good time, and maybe they don't go out
- 1:22:24Speaker 3: for another year. But the fact that your kids are
- 1:22:26Speaker 3: you know, around or mine in this case, like we're
- 1:22:28Speaker 3: always going to our land and we're always out there
- 1:22:31Speaker 3: putting out corn or whatever it may be, to kind
- 1:22:33Speaker 3: of keep them within the process, perhaps that keeps them
- 1:22:36Speaker 3: more engaged than hey, we are taking this trip, you know,
- 1:22:38Speaker 3: this three day trip. We're gonna you know, try and
- 1:22:40Speaker 3: kill or hunt white tail turkey, whatever it is. And
- 1:22:43Speaker 3: if you don't get a sitting up gotta have an hour.
- 1:22:45Speaker 1: It ain't gonna happen, ye know.
- 1:22:47Speaker 2: Yeah, how old are your kids again, Clay?
- 1:22:49Speaker 3: They are eight, seven and four?
- 1:22:52Speaker 1: What is the boys? Girls? Girl?
- 1:22:54Speaker 6: Boy? Yeah?
- 1:22:55Speaker 3: We got yeah, Clay the fourth. I figured I'd be
- 1:22:57Speaker 3: like every other athlete and name them after me. So
- 1:22:59Speaker 3: my oldest is the is the fourth.
- 1:23:01Speaker 1: Now are you way leaning on your kids that they
- 1:23:03Speaker 1: have to play pro football?
- 1:23:04Speaker 2: Not at all, not at all.
- 1:23:05Speaker 3: They can if they want. My dad didn't do that
- 1:23:07Speaker 3: with us at all. But I just found that at
- 1:23:09Speaker 3: least this is a broad stroke statement that you know,
- 1:23:12Speaker 3: most boys want to grow up and be like their fathers,
- 1:23:14Speaker 3: and I know that for me, they have taken at
- 1:23:18Speaker 3: least my youngest. My youngest is a monster. He just
- 1:23:21Speaker 3: you know, we have to tackle every night before going
- 1:23:23Speaker 3: to bed. But he loves watching the YouTube clipse of
- 1:23:25Speaker 3: me back.
- 1:23:26Speaker 6: In the day.
- 1:23:27Speaker 3: Hey type, that's funny. Type in your Clay Matthews highlights
- 1:23:31Speaker 3: and I'm like, I'm not I'll watching it. That was
- 1:23:35Speaker 3: all right. But you know, if they want to grow
- 1:23:38Speaker 3: up and do it, I have no problem whatsoever. I'll
- 1:23:40Speaker 3: probably be I started playing tackle football at eight years old.
- 1:23:43Speaker 3: I don't think there's a reason that kids need to
- 1:23:45Speaker 3: start that early. Not that I have anything against it,
- 1:23:47Speaker 3: but you know, perhaps we start with flag work your
- 1:23:49Speaker 3: way up until you're at maybe ten years old. Yeah,
- 1:23:53Speaker 3: you know, when they can start with with you know, tackle,
- 1:23:55Speaker 3: the age at which you do serious stuff. Yeah.
- 1:23:57Speaker 1: You know, we had Bo Jackson on the show years ago.
- 1:24:01Speaker 1: I was surprised when you told me. He said, I
- 1:24:03Speaker 1: wouldn't let my kid play football.
- 1:24:08Speaker 3: Listen, I understand both sides.
- 1:24:10Speaker 1: I mean, yeah, yeah, it wasn't the lifestyle. It was
- 1:24:12Speaker 1: the injuries.
- 1:24:13Speaker 3: Yeah, I understand that. But I mean, first of all,
- 1:24:16Speaker 3: I wouldn't be the position I'm at today if it
- 1:24:18Speaker 3: weren't for football. Just that's just, you know, God's honest truth.
- 1:24:22Speaker 3: You know, the financial freedom that it provides you is unbelievable.
- 1:24:26Speaker 3: The opportunity to meet people, to help others, to you know,
- 1:24:29Speaker 3: push your platform.
- 1:24:30Speaker 1: Yeah, you do a lot of charitable work, I know.
- 1:24:32Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 1:24:33Speaker 3: But I just think there's also this other side of it,
- 1:24:37Speaker 3: the teamwork aspect, which I think is so important for
- 1:24:39Speaker 3: young kids, especially coming from a sports background, as being
- 1:24:42Speaker 3: a part of a team and not just always individual sports.
- 1:24:45Speaker 3: You learn how to manage your expectations, win together, lose together.
- 1:24:49Speaker 3: I mean, there's so many emotions that you go through,
- 1:24:51Speaker 3: and and similar to what we were talking about earlier,
- 1:24:53Speaker 3: bringing people from all walks of life together for a
- 1:24:55Speaker 3: common goal, I think it starts early, and I think
- 1:24:58Speaker 3: it helps them become better humans as they you know,
- 1:25:02Speaker 3: as they grow up. So for me, I think there's
- 1:25:04Speaker 3: it's it's not just the oh yeah, you can make
- 1:25:07Speaker 3: tons of money and do this. I think there's so
- 1:25:09Speaker 3: much to it than the fame and money that come
- 1:25:13Speaker 3: from it.
- 1:25:14Speaker 1: Yeah you said you don't really you don't miss the
- 1:25:17Speaker 1: fame terrible, No, not really said to haunt some people.
- 1:25:21Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, I mean, you know, roar of the crowd,
- 1:25:23Speaker 3: right exactly. Yeah. For me, I I've you know, I had.
- 1:25:26Speaker 3: I kind of came onto the scene real fast. In
- 1:25:29Speaker 3: our second year, we won the Super Bowl and I
- 1:25:32Speaker 3: was playing very well, and so you know, you have
- 1:25:34Speaker 3: and you know, when you put your your self image
- 1:25:37Speaker 3: and your worth in the hands of the media, it's dangerous,
- 1:25:40Speaker 3: you know, and and they'll they'll they'll tear you or
- 1:25:43Speaker 3: I mean they'll lift you up just to tear you down.
- 1:25:45Speaker 3: So for me, it's it's almost been a relief, you know,
- 1:25:48Speaker 3: kind of taking a step back and focusing on everything else,
- 1:25:51Speaker 3: whether that's you know, being a dad, a husband, being
- 1:25:53Speaker 3: able to go hunting and not worrying about, you know,
- 1:25:57Speaker 3: the criticism or the praise that comes along with it.
- 1:26:00Speaker 3: So for me, I truly have not missed it. You know,
- 1:26:04Speaker 3: it's nice when you can get to the front of
- 1:26:05Speaker 3: the line certain restaurants and whatnot, But and those paychecks that.
- 1:26:09Speaker 1: Used to come in.
- 1:26:10Speaker 3: But for the most part, for me, I'm.
- 1:26:12Speaker 2: Good with it.
- 1:26:12Speaker 3: But yeah, I mean there are people who.
- 1:26:14Speaker 1: Yeah, oh, that's nothing compared to some perfectly lined up chestnuts.
- 1:26:17Speaker 7: Man.
- 1:26:17Speaker 3: Yeah, I'm telling you what. We spent weeks on that,
- 1:26:19Speaker 3: and I feel good about it. That'll be there for
- 1:26:22Speaker 3: a while. That legacy right there, will be there for
- 1:26:24Speaker 3: a while.
- 1:26:25Speaker 5: So you had you had some hunts prior, like during
- 1:26:28Speaker 5: your NFL days.
- 1:26:30Speaker 3: Yeah, so I would try and schedule at least one
- 1:26:33Speaker 3: hunt after the season, which would you know, obviously end
- 1:26:38Speaker 3: in January February, and I usually I have family in Texas.
- 1:26:42Speaker 3: So it started with the exotic hunts, the high fence
- 1:26:45Speaker 3: hunts in Texas, and those those were a blast, and
- 1:26:47Speaker 3: but I kind of grew out of that and I
- 1:26:49Speaker 3: started to enjoy just the fair chase hunts, and so
- 1:26:52Speaker 3: I've done pronghorn, white tail. I'm just trying to think
- 1:26:58Speaker 3: what's up on the wall mountain lion, and.
- 1:27:02Speaker 5: Where'd you hunta antelope?
- 1:27:04Speaker 2: Uh?
- 1:27:05Speaker 3: Colorado? Now I'm blanking on where it was. I went
- 1:27:07Speaker 3: elk hunting in Levita, Colorado, did black bear in Utah
- 1:27:14Speaker 3: this year? So yeah, then you know what I didn't.
- 1:27:18Speaker 3: I guess they had gotten a lot of snow this year.
- 1:27:21Speaker 3: So when we went up there, they just they weren't
- 1:27:23Speaker 3: you were spring hunting spring hunt? Yeah, with hounds too,
- 1:27:26Speaker 3: So there wasn't There just wasn't a lot of low year.
- 1:27:28Speaker 3: It was.
- 1:27:29Speaker 1: It was Is it right there?
- 1:27:31Speaker 4: Are you cautioned because everybody's a brand kind of in
- 1:27:36Speaker 4: the NFL? Are you cautioned to like what in your
- 1:27:39Speaker 4: personal life you can you can share when you're when
- 1:27:42Speaker 4: you're playing?
- 1:27:43Speaker 3: Absolutely? Yeah, I think there's for me personally. I mean,
- 1:27:47Speaker 3: I know who you know who cuts my checks when
- 1:27:49Speaker 3: I'm you know, doing these endorsements and commercials on TV,
- 1:27:52Speaker 3: not just outside of the football teams in which I
- 1:27:55Speaker 3: played for, but they're usually in New York or LA
- 1:27:57Speaker 3: and and predominantly are are you know, either anti hunting
- 1:28:01Speaker 3: or you know, yeah, anti hunting. So for me, it's
- 1:28:05Speaker 3: like I just I choose not to post that or
- 1:28:07Speaker 3: really you know, dive into it and talk about it
- 1:28:10Speaker 3: unless somebody within the community the hunting outdoor conservation space
- 1:28:13Speaker 3: wants to. But for the most part, it just it
- 1:28:16Speaker 3: benefits me just to kind of keep it to myself.
- 1:28:19Speaker 3: And not that I'm you know, I wouldn't say a sellout,
- 1:28:22Speaker 3: but the opposite of that. But I just I also
- 1:28:24Speaker 3: think there's for me and one of the things I
- 1:28:27Speaker 3: really enjoy about you know, meat Eater and watching the
- 1:28:30Speaker 3: show and the content you put out is he doesn't
- 1:28:32Speaker 3: feel like it's just some overweight white male shoots animal,
- 1:28:36Speaker 3: takes you know, pictures, smiling over them.
- 1:28:38Speaker 1: And I'm super skinny.
- 1:28:40Speaker 3: Well, and that's why. But and I think there's you know,
- 1:28:44Speaker 3: you watch animals that you know you would look at
- 1:28:47Speaker 3: and historically, you know, you might look down on it.
- 1:28:49Speaker 3: You're okay, why are we why are you hunting this animal?
- 1:28:52Speaker 3: You know, how does this benefit you know, the other animals,
- 1:28:56Speaker 3: the ungulates, whatever it might be. And then you do
- 1:28:59Speaker 3: a great job cooking it. But at the end and
- 1:29:00Speaker 3: you also tell a great story with what the people
- 1:29:02Speaker 3: involved in it as well, which I think is phenomenal
- 1:29:05Speaker 3: and I think it's helped bring it's helped eliminate the
- 1:29:08Speaker 3: stigma of hunting animals, which is just you're this, you know,
- 1:29:12Speaker 3: you're the you're blood hungry and you just want this
- 1:29:14Speaker 3: trophy for the wall. There's so much more to it
- 1:29:16Speaker 3: that you really can't explain to somebody, which I think
- 1:29:18Speaker 3: you're doing a phenomenal job who has never hunted before.
- 1:29:21Speaker 3: So uh, and I forgot where I went off on
- 1:29:24Speaker 3: this table.
- 1:29:25Speaker 1: We recently had a Brian Harmon, who won the British Open, was.
- 1:29:29Speaker 5: On and who is the hunter in golf?
- 1:29:34Speaker 1: Yeah, and he said when he in England, they were
- 1:29:37Speaker 1: taking a real in the interviewing. You know, they were
- 1:29:40Speaker 1: asking a lot of hunting questions. He thought they were
- 1:29:42Speaker 1: interested in hunting, but it was you know, then he
- 1:29:46Speaker 1: was dubbed the Brian the butcher.
- 1:29:48Speaker 3: Yeah, you know, it's a shame.
- 1:29:50Speaker 1: And he's like, oh, these guys are really interesting hunting.
- 1:29:52Speaker 1: Let me tell you another thing all along, not knowing
- 1:29:56Speaker 1: that they're going to try to roast him over it.
- 1:29:58Speaker 3: Yeah. Well, and I think you just have to you
- 1:30:00Speaker 3: just have to commit. But I mean that's you know,
- 1:30:02Speaker 3: that's it was paying me, and so I wanted to
- 1:30:04Speaker 3: just kind of fit in line. But I was still
- 1:30:06Speaker 3: able to. It's not like they said, hey, you can't
- 1:30:08Speaker 3: hunt or you can't do this, So I still got
- 1:30:09Speaker 3: to do everything I wanted to. I just chose not to.
- 1:30:11Speaker 3: And I've I've always been like that. I've kind of
- 1:30:13Speaker 3: kept in uh, you know, an arm the public at
- 1:30:16Speaker 3: arms reach just because of the you know how much
- 1:30:20Speaker 3: access they give to athletes nowadays, and now you know too,
- 1:30:27Speaker 3: whether it be your children or whatnot. I'm like, I'm
- 1:30:29Speaker 3: good with that. Like everything you see on TV, all
- 1:30:31Speaker 3: the commercials and stuff that's you know, that's that's fodder.
- 1:30:35Speaker 3: But everything that's at home, I try and keep that
- 1:30:37Speaker 3: as as private as possible.
- 1:30:38Speaker 1: I understand. Yeah, right, Well, thanks for coming on the
- 1:30:42Speaker 1: show man.
- 1:30:42Speaker 3: I appreciate. I had a blast. Thanks so much for
- 1:30:44Speaker 3: the out hanging with the boys and everything this was.
- 1:30:47Speaker 3: I'm glad I didn't have to hide this, you know,
- 1:30:49Speaker 3: maybe now that I'm on my next you know, navigating
- 1:30:51Speaker 3: this post yeah posts. Yeah, I mean, they're not cutting
- 1:30:54Speaker 3: my checks for as much anymore, so I'll probably be
- 1:30:56Speaker 3: asking for a job here immediately.
- 1:30:59Speaker 2: Clay, get stuff done. I'll tell you that because I
- 1:31:02Speaker 2: have to buy tags for people all the time and whatnot.
- 1:31:05Speaker 2: And I was working with some other guys and Clay
- 1:31:08Speaker 2: just called me up. He's like, what do I need?
- 1:31:10Speaker 2: And the next thing you know, he sends an email
- 1:31:12Speaker 2: over like three minutes later, got all of his tags,
- 1:31:15Speaker 2: just gets it done.
- 1:31:16Speaker 3: That's just what I told you, right, Let the DNR
- 1:31:20Speaker 3: come around.
- 1:31:20Speaker 2: But no, but like, that's that's huge. I was like,
- 1:31:23Speaker 2: this guy is not.
- 1:31:24Speaker 1: Just no how to navigated website.
- 1:31:26Speaker 3: Yeah, hey, they're difficult. Once you get that social in there,
- 1:31:29Speaker 3: you're good to go.
- 1:31:30Speaker 1: But good shooting today too, by the way, I know,
- 1:31:31Speaker 1: I appreciate it. One more thing to end on.
- 1:31:33Speaker 9: You're talking about which fish you should stock your pond
- 1:31:37Speaker 9: with a pole here?
- 1:31:39Speaker 3: Yeah, oh no, no, this is great. Don't worry about
- 1:31:41Speaker 3: I've gone back and forth, so you know now that
- 1:31:43Speaker 3: i've I've so when I drained the when I drained
- 1:31:47Speaker 3: the pond, I had I had northern bass.
- 1:31:52Speaker 1: Northern.
- 1:31:53Speaker 3: No, are there two different types of bass? There's four large.
- 1:31:56Speaker 5: Large large, Well, there's yeah, there's a bunch of different.
- 1:32:00Speaker 3: As far as large. As far as large mouth is concerned,
- 1:32:03Speaker 3: there's the Florida and then there's a northern. Oh, I'm sorry,
- 1:32:05Speaker 3: I should have clarified that. You know, I don't don't
- 1:32:09Speaker 3: get to you're talking.
- 1:32:11Speaker 1: I love all the inter intricacies of fish and all
- 1:32:14Speaker 1: the differences, but I've never had any exposure to anything
- 1:32:17Speaker 1: with the large mouth. But yeah, there's like the Virginia and.
- 1:32:21Speaker 5: A bunch of like subspecies, so there.
- 1:32:23Speaker 3: Were there was there was crappy in it as well,
- 1:32:25Speaker 3: and some type of bluegill, so you know, I brought
- 1:32:28Speaker 3: in I brought in somebody who does you know, trophy ponds,
- 1:32:32Speaker 3: so he's okay, you gotta stock him with Florida large mouth.
- 1:32:34Speaker 3: So initially I was like putting the large mouth in there.
- 1:32:37Speaker 3: I haven't made a decision that brought this up.
- 1:32:41Speaker 6: Correct.
- 1:32:41Speaker 2: I don't put the.
- 1:32:45Speaker 3: Finish, so I'd go back to these nor I guess
- 1:32:48Speaker 3: these northerns are are more aggressive, but they don't get
- 1:32:50Speaker 3: as big, but they were My kids were enjoying catching them.
- 1:32:52Speaker 3: And then there's a Florida large mouth, which obviously you
- 1:32:55Speaker 3: know can be massive. Then there's these he wants these
- 1:32:57Speaker 3: painted blue gill, which are a floor or the subspecies.
- 1:33:01Speaker 3: They get really big too, which is fine, but he
- 1:33:03Speaker 3: said don't put crappy in. I guess they breed earlier
- 1:33:08Speaker 3: than the other fish, eat up all the FIGHTO planked in.
- 1:33:10Speaker 3: It was one of those I kind of went over
- 1:33:12Speaker 3: my head. I was like, okay, but I started and
- 1:33:14Speaker 3: then I want catfish. I want catfish because my kids.
- 1:33:18Speaker 3: You know, everybody loves catching catfish. Because don't do it.
- 1:33:20Speaker 3: Don't do it. They'll ruin the whole. You know, the
- 1:33:23Speaker 3: chain of command, so to speak, within there. And but
- 1:33:26Speaker 3: I so ultimate where I'm at is I'm blue gills. Fine,
- 1:33:30Speaker 3: I think I'm gonna go with channel cats, but I'm
- 1:33:32Speaker 3: curious on bass. So I'm just curious what everyone is
- 1:33:35Speaker 3: gonna eat everything else.
- 1:33:38Speaker 5: But your kids are gonna have a lot of fun catch.
- 1:33:40Speaker 3: I got four different opinions, but the bass and blue
- 1:33:45Speaker 3: gill were in there before.
- 1:33:46Speaker 1: Put blue gills back in. That's it, Listen, just put
- 1:33:50Speaker 1: the blue gills in there. This world is not going
- 1:33:52Speaker 1: to run out of bass. You can run out of
- 1:33:54Speaker 1: blue gills, run out of well. Just put blue gills
- 1:33:56Speaker 1: in there.
- 1:33:57Speaker 3: Kids are gonna run out of pao.
- 1:33:58Speaker 1: Your kids go down there. When your kids go down
- 1:34:00Speaker 1: onto the little teeny popper.
- 1:34:03Speaker 5: So that's what's cool. Is that they'll eat on the sole.
- 1:34:07Speaker 3: They fish there before and they've enjoyed it, but sometimes
- 1:34:09Speaker 3: they get bored with I mean they catch because you're getting.
- 1:34:12Speaker 1: Here's a problem. You're gonna get bass in there. Then
- 1:34:14Speaker 1: it's gonna be like, oh, there's that one bass and
- 1:34:16Speaker 1: there's that other bad.
- 1:34:18Speaker 7: Deer.
- 1:34:18Speaker 1: It's gonna be like the next thing. You know, you
- 1:34:20Speaker 1: got a coy pond. Don't put no bass in there.
- 1:34:23Speaker 1: Let's put a ship. Little blue gills.
- 1:34:25Speaker 5: Someone who grew up on a farm had a farm
- 1:34:27Speaker 5: pond full of bass and blue gills.
- 1:34:29Speaker 1: Opposition to comment on this.
- 1:34:31Speaker 5: Put the freaking bass in there.
- 1:34:33Speaker 3: Yeah, I'm going with you. I'm going with the bass.
- 1:34:38Speaker 5: Fast, blue gill and catfish.
- 1:34:40Speaker 6: There you go.
- 1:34:41Speaker 9: I was.
- 1:34:43Speaker 3: It's about twelve feet at its deepest. Put some gills
- 1:34:48Speaker 3: in there would survives.
- 1:34:52Speaker 1: Man, Big old freaking blue gills. You know what you
- 1:34:55Speaker 1: want something big? Put those sterilized blue gills in there.
- 1:34:58Speaker 1: I know they can't make love. They just it big.
- 1:35:01Speaker 3: Okay, Wow, give a show.
- 1:35:03Speaker 1: And put some regular gills in there.
- 1:35:06Speaker 3: I don't know enough about fish yet, so.
- 1:35:08Speaker 1: Well you'll find out when you start raising all these
- 1:35:10Speaker 1: different blue gills.
- 1:35:11Speaker 4: This Florida hybrid thing sounds really interesting though, Like if
- 1:35:14Speaker 4: it's one of those big they could you know, they
- 1:35:15Speaker 4: call him like the shell crackers or whatever.
- 1:35:17Speaker 5: That'd be cool.
- 1:35:19Speaker 1: In the fresh water. There's a couple of fish that
- 1:35:21Speaker 1: people will say this about. In fresh water, they'll say,
- 1:35:24Speaker 1: pound for pound, nothing can out fight a small mouth.
- 1:35:27Speaker 1: Pound for pound, nothing can out fight a blue gill.
- 1:35:29Speaker 1: A five pound blue gill is gonna out tussle. There's
- 1:35:32Speaker 1: no such thing, but a five pound blue gill is
- 1:35:35Speaker 1: gonna out tussle this five pounds small mouth pass.
- 1:35:37Speaker 3: But do your kids ever get bored of just catching
- 1:35:39Speaker 3: blue gill? Like if you had your if you.
- 1:35:41Speaker 1: Have I live in the Inner Mountain West, Dude, there's
- 1:35:43Speaker 1: no blue You gotta look high and low for a bluegill,
- 1:35:46Speaker 1: not that they have found them.
- 1:35:48Speaker 5: If Jimmy was fishing a pond that had a bunch
- 1:35:50Speaker 5: of big bucket mouse in it.
- 1:35:53Speaker 1: He'd ask me if he could spear them.
- 1:35:54Speaker 5: He would, He wouldn't have He would have a blast
- 1:35:57Speaker 5: catching them. I know he will.
- 1:35:59Speaker 1: Him and his body's catch catch large mouths, dinkers, dnkers,
- 1:36:03Speaker 1: not bucket mouths.
- 1:36:04Speaker 10: This is such a Minnesota goodbye.
- 1:36:07Speaker 1: Get quick, show of hands. Bluegills, yeah, yeah, okay, so
- 1:36:12Speaker 1: there's five people think the blue let's go to catfish
- 1:36:14Speaker 1: because the best fish. Yeah, to think catfish. Crappies, yeah, sure,
- 1:36:19Speaker 1: why not crappies? Yeah, the foul mouth bass, large mouths,
- 1:36:26Speaker 1: large mouths.
- 1:36:26Speaker 5: Yeah one, I'll vote twice.
- 1:36:28Speaker 4: Ask this guy if it would be possible to put
- 1:36:33Speaker 4: a bowfin in there?

- 1:36:35Speaker 2: Okay?
- 1:36:35Speaker 5: Yeah, yeah, snakeheads.

- 1:36:41Speaker 1: snakeheads in there.
- 1:36:42Speaker 4: Well, if I mean bofen would be the the right one.
- 1:36:46Speaker 4: But if you know, part of this pond gets so
- 1:36:49Speaker 4: hot and denuded of oxygen that fish can live in there,
- 1:36:53Speaker 4: and it'll eat frogs and turtles and stuff like that,
- 1:36:58Speaker 4: and they taste awesome.
- 1:36:59Speaker 3: Don't put Okay, Well, I'm glad we brought this out
