- 0:00Speaker 1: Live now on Sporting State, it's Tuesday. That means coming
- 0:03Speaker 1: up after we talk to Chris Doering of the SEC
- 0:07Speaker 1: Network and Florida Gator fame at 11 Eastern, 10 Central,
- 0:11Speaker 1: Hour 2. After that, we'll get to our upset alert.
- 0:14Speaker 1: Everybody on the show hit something last week except for me. Wow.
- 0:19Speaker 1: Everybody on the show hit something but for me last week.
- 0:21Speaker 1: So we'll get to a very good upset alert coming
- 0:24Speaker 1: up in a moment. We'll jump into the NFL, what
- 0:27Speaker 1: we saw last night here in the opening segment. And
- 0:29Speaker 1: a ton of college football to get to. An apology
- 0:32Speaker 1: to get to from Tuscaloosa. But let's start. I mean,
- 0:35Speaker 1: I've got to show you the best photo and the
- 0:39Speaker 1: best tailgate sign from Oxford this past weekend. New angle
- 0:45Speaker 1: on the last game-ending interception from up in the stands.
- 0:49Speaker 1: And they're talking about this. This will be hanging. This
- 0:52Speaker 1: will be whatever your velvet... Elvis picture, dogs playing poker picture.
- 0:59Speaker 1: This will be all over Ole Miss fans' houses and
- 1:02Speaker 1: T-shirts forever and ever. Every barbecue joint and bar in
- 1:05Speaker 1: Oxford will have that one. I saw the side shot
- 1:08Speaker 1: of that. The side shot was good, but this is better.
- 1:12Speaker 1: I saw the side shot first, but then when you
- 1:14Speaker 1: go up top, you've seen Lane out on the field,
- 1:17Speaker 1: and then they're all running towards him. That is the
- 1:20Speaker 1: picture that defines the moment as everyone was The famous
- 1:25Speaker 1: thing is hanging the Louvre. Hey, serious question. If he
- 1:28Speaker 1: never wins a national championship, what is Lane Kiffin's legacy?
- 1:33Speaker 1: Maybe that photo right there. I mean, number two pointing.
- 1:36Speaker 1: I really wonder what it is. Two pointing at him
- 1:38Speaker 1: at 31, just waving at him. The wave feels more disrespectful.
- 1:41Speaker 1: You think the wave's worse than the point? Yeah, it's
- 1:43Speaker 1: just like, hi, we just won. I don't know. The
- 1:48Speaker 1: point's pretty bad. Yeah, 11. The third one actually goes
- 1:52Speaker 1: double birds. No, I'm kidding. It's just a sequence. I'd
- 1:56Speaker 1: love to hear what they said. Yeah, they were talking too,
- 1:58Speaker 1: I bet. The best game day sign, not actually on
- 2:02Speaker 1: game day, but at a tailgate. I don't even know
- 2:05Speaker 1: who to give credit to for this, but this was
- 2:07Speaker 1: so good. You're so lame, you probably think this game
- 2:10Speaker 1: is about you. I mean, can we get an applause?
- 2:14Speaker 1: That's pretty good, though. You're so lame, you probably think
- 2:18Speaker 1: this game is about you. And that smirk from AI
- 2:21Speaker 1: there from Lane Kiffin. Fun weekend. Come down to earth
- 2:25Speaker 1: this weekend type games for both of them. They better
- 2:28Speaker 1: be back. Still Ole Miss underdogs at Florida and a
- 2:32Speaker 1: beaten up LSU team now taking on Texas A & M,
- 2:37Speaker 1: who's a wounded animal coming into Baton Rouge. We'll see
- 2:41Speaker 1: if either one of those games make it into upset
- 2:43Speaker 1: alert coming up a little bit later on. We jump
- 2:47Speaker 1: in to the National Football League after I remind you
- 2:49Speaker 1: that our show today is always brought to you by

- 3:55Speaker 1: football last night, before we jump back into college football,
- 3:59Speaker 1: The Rams get four touchdowns. They beat the Giants 28-6.
- 4:03Speaker 1: Devontae Adams was good. Let's start first, though, with Matt Stafford,
- 4:08Speaker 1: who became sixth all-time in most touchdown passing, Philip Rivers,
- 4:13Speaker 1: with 427 touchdown passes. He didn't look old. He didn't
- 4:18Speaker 1: look old last night. He looked good. More Matthew Stafford.
- 4:21Speaker 2: Not quite what you saw last year winning an MVP
- 4:24Speaker 2: because Devontae Adams did bail him out a couple of times.
- 4:27Speaker 1: With some really, really good catches. He really did, especially
- 4:30Speaker 1: that one where Devontae got bumped downfield, and he had
- 4:35Speaker 1: a sky-like third-story jump to catch it and then take
- 4:38Speaker 1: it in for a touchdown. Oh, yeah, yeah. The first touchdown.
- 4:40Speaker 1: The first touchdown.
- 4:41Speaker 2: I mean, full extension, an incredible catch, and, you know,
- 4:46Speaker 2: adjustment from Devontae Adams.
- 4:48Speaker 1: But I thought Stafford looked good.
- 4:50Speaker 2: I mean, the Rams were able to run the football,
- 4:52Speaker 2: something they got away from because they got down so
- 4:55Speaker 2: bad in the second half against San Francisco.
- 4:57Speaker 1: But Stafford looked the part without Puka.
- 5:00Speaker 2: And, you know, last year there was one game they
- 5:01Speaker 2: played without Puka over in London against Jacksonville. Devontae had
- 5:04Speaker 2: three touchdowns. So that's kind of the go-to when he's out.
- 5:07Speaker 2: Puka gets in the way.
- 5:08Speaker 1: That's right. From Devontae. That's LA Sports Talk today. Is
- 5:12Speaker 1: our offense better without Puka? So let's take your call.
- 5:15Speaker 2: You know, it's funny you say that because they're making
- 5:17Speaker 2: a decision right now on his extension because of the
- 5:20Speaker 2: off-the-field stuff. And they can't decide whether or not they're
- 5:22Speaker 2: going to give him this huge lucrative deal because– There's
- 5:26Speaker 2: a lot of people in the organization.
- 5:27Speaker 1: They don't trust Puka. Yeah. Well, I would say this.
- 5:29Speaker 1: You're about to, you feel like, go into a transition
- 5:33Speaker 1: time at quarterback. So is it more valuable to keep
- 5:36Speaker 1: Puka around and pay him money or go young at
- 5:41Speaker 1: the wide receiver position, bring in a free agent or something?
- 5:44Speaker 1: How do you want to play that?
- 5:45Speaker 2: Well, you just, I mean, I would love to keep
- 5:47Speaker 2: Puka because I think he's one of the best receivers. Now, durability,
- 5:50Speaker 2: he's always a little nicked up. But again, he only
- 5:52Speaker 2: missed one game last year. And we'll see how many
- 5:54Speaker 2: misses this year. but you never know how these guys
- 5:58Speaker 2: are going to react once they get paid. Puka was
- 6:00Speaker 2: a guy, late draft pick, never really expected to do anything,
- 6:04Speaker 2: and then bust on the scene, rookie year, and now
- 6:07Speaker 2: he's not making a lot of money, and you start
- 6:10Speaker 2: giving this guy $ 30 million a year, what's he going
- 6:12Speaker 2: to act like?
- 6:13Speaker 1: And don't think about the future. This may be it
- 6:17Speaker 1: for Matt Stafford. This may be it for Sean McVay even.
- 6:21Speaker 1: This may be For this guy, Aaron Donald, who's back.
- 6:24Speaker 1: Devontae Adams.
- 6:26Speaker 2: There will be a lot of significant names that will
- 6:29Speaker 2: leave this organization after this year, win or lose.
- 6:32Speaker 1: Enjoy the ride. Aaron Donald back last night on his
- 6:35Speaker 1: first game. Made some big plays in the trenches there.
- 6:38Speaker 1: Here's Aaron Donald. It felt good to be back out there, man.
- 6:43Speaker 1: Get that first game under my belt.
- 6:44Speaker 3: I feel like as it started going on, it's kind
- 6:48Speaker 3: of slowed down towards the third and fourth quarter, but
- 6:51Speaker 3: I got it under my belt, officially back playing football,
- 6:54Speaker 3: you know, came away with a win. So I'm excited
- 6:57Speaker 3: about that. The game really wasn't as fast as I,
- 6:59Speaker 3: you know, thought. It was more of me calming myself down, right?
- 7:03Speaker 3: You know, overrunning stuff or just being, my feet not
- 7:05Speaker 3: being in the ground, how they supposed to be, not
- 7:07Speaker 3: trusting my eyes, little stuff like that. But, you know,
- 7:09Speaker 3: playing a game, when I held out in 17, 18
- 7:12Speaker 3: was the same way when I came back. It took
- 7:14Speaker 3: about a couple games to get going.
- 7:15Speaker 1: It's a little different. I ain't playing two years, so.
- 7:18Speaker 1: You know, I got to watch the.
- 7:19Speaker 3: Film, see what I did good, see what I did wrong,
- 7:21Speaker 3: and just clean it up.
- 7:23Speaker 1: Yeah, what a great attitude. I've always liked him. He's awesome.
- 7:27Speaker 1: He seems like he approaches it the right way.
- 7:29Speaker 2: Yeah, he loves the game of football, loves his family.
- 7:32Speaker 2: I mean, just a great, great dude. And you saw,
- 7:35Speaker 2: I mean, the explosion is still there. Now, he got
- 7:38Speaker 2: doubled a couple of times last night. He had the
- 7:39Speaker 2: three tackles and one tackle for loss. Was really good
- 7:42Speaker 2: against the run. I just hope we get to see
- 7:45Speaker 2: all these guys together. I really hope that it holds
- 7:48Speaker 2: up because you could see flashes last night against that
- 7:50Speaker 2: Giants offensive line where they were overwhelmed, and you have
- 7:53Speaker 2: a guy like Miles Garrett, the best in the business
- 7:56Speaker 2: right now.
- 7:57Speaker 1: They're going to be a handful. That's a story all
- 7:59Speaker 1: over the league, though. How many healthy bodies can you
- 8:01Speaker 1: put out there two weeks in? It's a big storyline,
- 8:03Speaker 1: the key injuries. Well, thank God Jackson Dart doesn't look
- 8:07Speaker 1: as bad as it initially did. It looks like the
- 8:09Speaker 1: reports today are a sprained MCL by Ann Rappaport. the
- 8:13Speaker 1: NFL Network. But, I mean, we were very close to
- 8:17Speaker 1: losing Caleb Williams, Jackson Dart, and Jaden Daniels all in
- 8:20Speaker 1: the same weekend. Week two, by the way.
- 8:23Speaker 2: I find it hard to believe that Caleb Williams will
- 8:25Speaker 2: play Monday night against Philadelphia, but they're saying there's a possibility.
- 8:28Speaker 2: Jackson Dart is going to be week to week. We'll
- 8:30Speaker 2: know a little bit more about the severity, but You know,
- 8:32Speaker 2: he went down when I initially, when you see him
- 8:35Speaker 2: holding the knee, you're like, you know, this is catastrophic.
- 8:38Speaker 2: But when I saw the hit, it looked like maybe
- 8:41Speaker 2: a deep knee bruise or something.
- 8:43Speaker 1: Yeah, it's just sprained MCL is what they're saying. But
- 8:45Speaker 1: for Caleb Williams and Dart, both of them, you take
- 8:48Speaker 1: out the legs, the ability to run. Yeah, boy. They
- 8:51Speaker 1: go from up here to down here. That's right. They're effective.
- 8:53Speaker 1: That's right, yeah. Yeah, so a good win last night.
- 8:58Speaker 1: Sean McVay, after the game, admitted that, You know, he
- 9:02Speaker 1: used the word dumbass. He called himself a dumbass on
- 9:05Speaker 1: the way they attacked the game in Australia. It turns out,
- 9:09Speaker 1: he says, you can't fly halfway around the world the
- 9:11Speaker 1: day before a game and perform at top level.
- 9:14Speaker 2: Well, I don't know if that is the legitimate excuse.
- 9:16Speaker 2: I still saw a lot of flaws with this Rams team.
- 9:18Speaker 2: I mean, multiple special teams errors. You know, Mivas misses
- 9:22Speaker 2: a 43-yard kick, his only attempt this year. Ethan Allen,
- 9:25Speaker 2: who is really, really, I mean, one of the best
- 9:28Speaker 2: punters out there, two 38-yard punts.
- 9:32Speaker 1: I thought I had me a little play with our
- 9:34Speaker 1: friends at Hard Rock Bet there. I thought, okay, 13-and-a-half
- 9:38Speaker 1: first half, because in-game betting, you know, with all the injuries.
- 9:42Speaker 1: I said, oh, 13-and-a-half. The Rams are going to be
- 9:45Speaker 1: 13-and-a-half at halftime. And then they give the ball up.
- 9:50Speaker 1: The Giants get a field goal. And I was like,
- 9:52Speaker 1: and then the boom, the big catch from Devontae. And
- 9:54Speaker 1: now it's a chippy field goal. Beavis, bring him out there.
- 9:59Speaker 1: The great kicker. The thicker kicker.
- 10:01Speaker 2: I told you, dangle a cheeseburger, the guy would have
- 10:03Speaker 2: made it. I'll tell you, man, yellow is not flattering
- 10:07Speaker 2: on people that are a little bit larger. And, man,
- 10:10Speaker 2: he looked, the thicker kicker looked more than thick.
- 10:13Speaker 1: He looked hefty. My dad, in fact, texted, I'm going
- 10:15Speaker 1: to read you the text. You could see his whole
- 10:18Speaker 1: belly button. He looked like the old video of Andy
- 10:22Speaker 1: Reid in Pun Passing Chick. Yeah, yeah, yeah, in a
- 10:24Speaker 1: Rams uniform. Yeah, my dad last night. right before the game,
- 10:28Speaker 1: who are you taking tonight? And tell Lance the Rams
- 10:31Speaker 1: are dressed like the Savannah Bananas. I love the uniforms.
- 10:34Speaker 1: I did not like them. Oh, I thought they were great.
- 10:37Speaker 1: My dad thinks they look like the Savannah Bananas, which
- 10:39Speaker 1: is a pretty big insult for you. That's a huge insult.
- 10:42Speaker 2: But I like the– I love the white pant. They
- 10:44Speaker 2: look like practice jerseys to me. I did not like them.
- 10:47Speaker 2: I thought it was a great look. Unfortunately, we're only
- 10:49Speaker 2: going to have it one more time this year. But anyway,
- 10:51Speaker 2: the Rams have got a lot to clean up. Back
- 10:52Speaker 2: to the McVay comment.
- 10:54Speaker 1: He loves to take.
- 10:55Speaker 2: Ownership, which I like the fact that he does that.
- 10:59Speaker 2: I think he's just looking for an excuse to get
- 11:01Speaker 2: that out of the way. Like, who knows whether or
- 11:04Speaker 2: not the 23 hours, I mean, it didn't look like
- 11:06Speaker 2: the right decision because they got walked off the field
- 11:08Speaker 2: in the second half. But take ownership, blame it on that.
- 11:11Speaker 2: It's not about the talent. It's not about this team
- 11:12Speaker 2: and what we've got in front of them. Because, boy,
- 11:15Speaker 2: they have a gauntlet. And, you know, the next one,
- 11:16Speaker 2: it gets real. You go to Denver, altitude game against
- 11:19Speaker 2: Broncos team coming off a big win against Jacksonville. And
- 11:23Speaker 2: it's going to be a long season. You know, it
- 11:25Speaker 2: was a nice bounce back, though. And I'll tell you,
- 11:27Speaker 2: any win, first win in 239 days as a Rams fan,
- 11:30Speaker 2: That was a long time.
- 11:32Speaker 1: Man, I am so glad you guys have survived that drought.
- 11:35Speaker 1: I mean, that's a drought. Oh, I know. That's terrible.
- 11:37Speaker 1: That's terrible. No, what's that? Two-game losing streak? Yeah.
- 11:40Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 11:41Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 11:41Speaker 1: I mean, we lost to Seattle in the NFC Championship.
- 11:43Speaker 1: The last one was the NFC Championship game. It's called
- 11:46Speaker 1: an off-season. 239 days is a long time. I'm glad
- 11:49Speaker 1: you survived that, Lance. I want your reaction to this
- 11:51Speaker 1: before we move on from the NFL. Who had Michael
- 11:54Speaker 1: Penix Jr.? actually starting a Falcons game before Tua Tungvaluwa.
- 11:59Speaker 1: Pennix Jr. back week three. He'll be the starter for
- 12:02Speaker 1: the Falcons, getting a start before Tua does. I mean,
- 12:06Speaker 1: when you sign Tua and you already have Michael Pennix,
- 12:09Speaker 1: you just know you're going to deal with injuries. That
- 12:12Speaker 1: Tua back injury, though, that's what he's still suffering from.
- 12:15Speaker 1: And we've all seen the video. The dude's just throwing
- 12:18Speaker 1: a football. It's not like he got hit. I am sorry.
- 12:21Speaker 1: I was about to say I'm stunned he's still battling this,
- 12:23Speaker 1: and I'm not. I mean, that's the sad thing. I'm
- 12:25Speaker 1: not stunned by this at all. I mean, this is
- 12:28Speaker 1: what you sign up for when you get to it.
- 12:30Speaker 2: But both of these guys, Penix going back to Indiana, Washington,
- 12:34Speaker 2: he battled injuries, and you're already seeing it early on
- 12:36Speaker 2: in the NFL. What would suck is I remember back
- 12:40Speaker 2: to the Rams, Steven Jackson was such a good running
- 12:43Speaker 2: back for a decade, played in one postseason game because
- 12:45Speaker 2: the Rams were so bad.
- 12:47Speaker 1: Bijan is such a talented guy. Yep.
- 12:49Speaker 2: And, you know, you just hope his career doesn't get
- 12:51Speaker 2: buried because of bad quarterback play.
- 12:53Speaker 1: But if you don't have a quarterback in this league,
- 12:54Speaker 1: there's nothing you can do about it. And I don't
- 12:55Speaker 1: know if you guys saw the photo that circulated on
- 12:57Speaker 1: social media. It is one photo, but it's Bijan sitting
- 13:00Speaker 1: on the bench, and he just looks totally despondent. And
- 13:03Speaker 1: everybody's like, oh, you've already lost Bijan. You've already lost Bijan.
- 13:06Speaker 1: It's one photo. You never know what's going on there.
- 13:08Speaker 1: But a lot of people are saying the same thing
- 13:10Speaker 1: Lance said, is you've signed what could be a generational
- 13:13Speaker 1: talent at running back for your franchise. And what can
- 13:17Speaker 1: the guy do when your quarterbacks are Jack Strand and
- 13:21Speaker 1: Cooper Rush and broke down Tua Tongavaloa and broke down
- 13:25Speaker 1: Michael Penix? I don't know what you're going to get
- 13:26Speaker 1: out of this guy.
- 13:27Speaker 2: I mean, they look like they're going to be 0-12 to.
- 13:30Speaker 1: Start, maybe. Oof. You never know in that case.
- 13:34Speaker 2: I mean, you never know, but I'm just saying they're
- 13:36Speaker 2: going to be underdogs in all of these games.
- 13:38Speaker 1: That division, I mean, the Saints, I was about to
- 13:41Speaker 1: say some of that division, but the Saints actually played well.
- 13:42Speaker 1: Thursday night, Falcons at Packers.
- 13:45Speaker 2: I mean, then they go to the Saints, Ravens, Bears, 49ers,
- 13:48Speaker 2: at the Bucs, Bengals, at the Chiefs, at the Vikings.
- 13:51Speaker 2: They've got a lot of losses coming up. But I
- 13:54Speaker 2: think we've got our top five and bottom five.
- 13:55Speaker 1: Teams coming up. I'd be interested if you guys have
- 13:57Speaker 1: the Falcons in your bottom five. That'll be tomorrow's show,
- 14:00Speaker 1: the NFL Power Rating. We'll get to the SEC brought
- 14:03Speaker 1: to you by our friends at hardrock.bet backslash clay, hardrock.bet
- 14:07Speaker 1: backslash clay, right here in the SEC Power Rating as
- 14:11Speaker 1: we flip over to college football. Before we show you
- 14:14Speaker 1: the power rating, I want to go back for some
- 14:18Speaker 1: sound we had yesterday from Tuscaloosa in our next round
- 14:21Speaker 1: part of the show. It was after we got out
- 14:23Speaker 1: of the sport and state part of our show here
- 14:26Speaker 1: on this part of the platform. It was from Alabama
- 14:29Speaker 1: offensive coordinator Ryan Grubb, who had this to say about
- 14:34Speaker 1: the Tides win over Florida State, which they trailed at
- 14:38Speaker 1: 1.21 to 6 early on. Here's Ryan Grubb yesterday.
- 14:42Speaker 5: So I was proud of the guys, you know, and
- 14:44Speaker 5: they just didn't have any quit. They're a really resilient group.
- 14:47Speaker 5: I'm super proud of that. You know, we had, I
- 14:49Speaker 5: would say, you know, I had some boo birds. I
- 14:53Speaker 5: told the guys, I said, shoot, guys, if you'd have
- 14:55Speaker 5: quit as fast as some of your fans, shit, we
- 14:58Speaker 5: wouldn't have won that game.
- 14:59Speaker 1: So I was proud of them.
- 15:00Speaker 5: For a bunch of 19-year-olds to go out there and
- 15:03Speaker 5: just 21-6 and not flinch, I was fired up.
- 15:07Speaker 1: Yeah, had a lot of people react on that yesterday.
- 15:10Speaker 1: Even Chris Lowe, longtime writer for a number of outlets
- 15:13Speaker 1: now with On3 Sports, and he's covered the SEC for
- 15:16Speaker 1: three decades. Instantly when he saw that sound, I think
- 15:20Speaker 1: he was quote tweeting Nick Kelly of AL.com. He said,
- 15:25Speaker 1: can't wait to see how this goes over. And it
- 15:28Speaker 1: went over exactly the way, the first thing everybody got
- 15:31Speaker 1: caught up on when he says, I was talking to
- 15:33Speaker 1: the players and I said, you're fans. That's right. Most
- 15:36Speaker 1: people were like, Wait, is it not our fans? It's
- 15:39Speaker 1: your fans? Are you not with us? The same guys
- 15:41Speaker 1: that are paying your seven-figure salary. What logo you got
- 15:44Speaker 1: on that shirt? Is it not our fans? Is it
- 15:46Speaker 1: your fans? It's not our fans? That was the first thing.
- 15:48Speaker 2: You know, we have heard that there's some people internally
- 15:51Speaker 2: that maybe wanted to go to Michigan.
- 15:53Speaker 1: This guy might have been one of them. Could have been.
- 15:55Speaker 1: And then there were other people, other fan bases that
- 15:59Speaker 1: was like, You know, he's not wrong. He's not wrong.
- 16:01Speaker 1: You guys are spoiled. You shouldn't be booing your own players.
- 16:05Speaker 1: That could be true. That could be true, too. And,
- 16:08Speaker 1: you know, I did the old, Nick, this is why
- 16:10Speaker 1: Nick Saban didn't let his assistants talk. You want one voice,
- 16:14Speaker 1: one program, one voice. And that's what Nick Saban wanted.
- 16:17Speaker 1: And a lot of people are like, Nick Saban's not
- 16:19Speaker 1: there anymore. That is obvious. He's not there anymore. The
- 16:23Speaker 1: sun barely sets in Tuscaloosa. And you get the apology.
- 16:28Speaker 1: sent out from Yale, Alabama. Did it come from the
- 16:30Speaker 1: robot is my question. I think the robot did this one.
- 16:33Speaker 1: Crimson Tide faithful. My passion for the University of Alabama
- 16:37Speaker 1: football team runs deep. It's from Ryan Grubb there. And
- 16:39Speaker 1: he goes on to talk about how he enjoys locking
- 16:45Speaker 1: arm with his brothers and going to work. And listen,
- 16:47Speaker 1: I don't doubt the guy's love for his job and
- 16:49Speaker 1: what he's doing. There are just some things you don't.
- 16:54Speaker 1: You don't do, and I think it's from a football standpoint,
- 16:57Speaker 1: the reason you don't do this. You don't say it
- 16:59Speaker 1: out loud. This is the kind of division, distraction, and everything.
- 17:04Speaker 1: I don't believe the Jimmy's and Joe fans, the people
- 17:08Speaker 1: like me in the stands, if they get upset, they
- 17:12Speaker 1: get upset. Him having an apology like this tells me
- 17:16Speaker 1: instantly that some of the Alabama people that have a
- 17:20Speaker 1: little bit of money were upset a little bit too. Oh,
- 17:23Speaker 1: I'm sure.
- 17:23Speaker 2: But I think this comes from growing frustration from Ryan
- 17:27Speaker 2: Grubb's part of last year. Hey, we win 11 games.
- 17:30Speaker 2: We play for an SEC championship. We go to the
- 17:32Speaker 2: college football playoff, and people are critical of me. It
- 17:36Speaker 2: seemed like there was something personal in that message yesterday.
- 17:39Speaker 2: But what's the problem with that statement? They're critical of me.
- 17:43Speaker 1: You can't be a successful– We, when you're worried only
- 17:47Speaker 1: about me. Yeah, but I think if you're a coach,
- 17:48Speaker 1: I think a successful college coach, maybe not in the pros,
- 17:51Speaker 1: but you just mentioned Sean McVay taking accountability. I think
- 17:53Speaker 1: a successful coach wants the criticism to be on him
- 17:57Speaker 1: and not on the players. It should be. I'll criticize
- 17:59Speaker 1: the players because I'm their coach. And Ryan Grubb, to me,
- 18:03Speaker 1: didn't necessarily earn his money last year.
- 18:05Speaker 2: Ty Simpson was really good, but as far as a
- 18:07Speaker 2: complete offense, it wasn't great. It looks a lot better
- 18:11Speaker 2: this year. But you've got to be able to read
- 18:13Speaker 2: the room, and you know how passionate this fan base is.
- 18:15Speaker 2: And it is a spoiled and entitled fan base based
- 18:18Speaker 2: on the fact that.
- 18:19Speaker 1: You know. They have the greatest run of college football history, Lance.
- 18:22Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean, you're coming off a 50-36 win over
- 18:24Speaker 2: Florida State, and people are bitching and complaining about it.
- 18:27Speaker 1: I get it.
- 18:27Speaker 2: It wasn't a masterpiece, but you're used to completely pounding
- 18:31Speaker 2: your competition into submission in the first half.
- 18:35Speaker 1: I don't think it's a newsflash. that the fan base
- 18:39Speaker 1: of the bluest of blue blood college football programs, there
- 18:42Speaker 1: is no more blue blood college football program than the
- 18:44Speaker 1: Alabama Crimson Tide. I mean, there is not one. You
- 18:47Speaker 1: make it argue Notre Dame, Michigan, Ohio State, USC are
- 18:50Speaker 1: tied with Alabama. You can argue that all you want,
- 18:52Speaker 1: but there's nobody bluer blood than Alabama. There is no
- 18:55Speaker 1: fan base that expects more of their football team than
- 18:58Speaker 1: Alabama fans do. And guess why they expect that? Because
- 19:02Speaker 1: it's what they've been given for basically 125 years. For
- 19:05Speaker 1: 125 years, more often than not, this program has been
- 19:09Speaker 1: in the national championship hunt. And they are just, even
- 19:13Speaker 1: in that program, are coming off the best run in
- 19:15Speaker 1: that program's history. So yes, Alabama fans expect a lot.
- 19:19Speaker 1: And it's, by the way, it's going to take a
- 19:22Speaker 1: lot to reprogram that. And they hope they never get reprogrammed.
- 19:24Speaker 1: I get it. But Alabama fans, this generation of Alabama
- 19:28Speaker 1: fans that saw the Nick Saban era, They're going to
- 19:32Speaker 1: expect a lot from their coaches. But away from the fans,
- 19:34Speaker 1: the thing that bothered me the most was that it's
- 19:38Speaker 1: a coach that tells me that he heard the boos,
- 19:44Speaker 1: that it registered with him. And it closed box with
- 19:47Speaker 1: his headset on. Enough that he brought it up. to
- 19:50Speaker 1: his players. And that's just not... Last year, this team
- 19:56Speaker 1: used the reaction from the fan base and from the
- 19:59Speaker 1: country after the Florida State loss as motivation inside the
- 20:03Speaker 1: locker room. I heard it from 100 people throughout the
- 20:06Speaker 1: season covering the team. how the reaction from not only
- 20:10Speaker 1: Alabama fans, but the whole country to that Florida State
- 20:12Speaker 1: loss bonded that team together inside the locker room. But
- 20:17Speaker 1: you know what they did? They kept it inside the
- 20:19Speaker 1: locker room all year long. And that's the only thing
- 20:21Speaker 1: that rubbed me the wrong way yesterday. I appreciate his apology.
- 20:24Speaker 1: And as I tweeted last night, back to... previously scheduled football.
- 20:30Speaker 1: Let's get back to the football part.
- 20:31Speaker 2: I mean, I don't know how sincere the apology is,
- 20:34Speaker 2: but you're probably right. I'm sure there were some people
- 20:36Speaker 2: that have a little more power than Ryan Grubb that said,
- 20:40Speaker 2: you know, we are cutting you a check and this
- 20:42Speaker 2: is your fan base. With all that said, let's not
- 20:44Speaker 2: forget Ryan Grubb did not want this job. He chose
- 20:48Speaker 2: not to come the first time.
- 20:49Speaker 1: Yeah, he came and then said, I'm your offensive coordinator
- 20:51Speaker 1: and left like 48 hours later. Yeah, it stayed in Seattle.
- 20:54Speaker 2: And then when he was fired from that job, by
- 20:56Speaker 2: the way, they won a Super Bowl last year. Then
- 20:59Speaker 2: he had an opportunity to come back.
- 21:01Speaker 1: But let me say this, too. And I did. I
- 21:04Speaker 1: received 100 responses like I was there. I wasn't booing
- 21:09Speaker 1: the players. I was booing the play call. You know,
- 21:11Speaker 1: I was booing him. In real time, it's hard to
- 21:14Speaker 1: know what people are booing, but I think that's probably
- 21:16Speaker 1: the case for most fans. But let me say this, too.
- 21:20Speaker 1: To defend Ryan Grubb for a minute, which might not
- 21:22Speaker 1: be the popular thing to do, but to defend him
- 21:24Speaker 1: for a minute, what we do for a living, when
- 21:27Speaker 1: you're talking live behind a microphone, it is very easy
- 21:30Speaker 1: to say things you regret. And there's no dump button.
- 21:34Speaker 1: And he's talking live behind a microphone in front of
- 21:36Speaker 1: a camera. And sure, you wish you wouldn't have said that,
- 21:37Speaker 1: but I've done it. I know you guys have. Yeah,
- 21:39Speaker 1: but I think that was intentional. Yeah, that was premeditated.
- 21:41Speaker 1: It was. That's completely different. It was. But don't you
- 21:45Speaker 1: think he regrets premeditating and doing that now? I'm not
- 21:48Speaker 1: saying it was a smart move. Because of the reaction.
- 21:50Speaker 1: That's right. So I'm saying there are times I've said
- 21:53Speaker 1: things and it gets a reaction. I'm like, yeah, I
- 21:54Speaker 1: probably shouldn't have said that. I know what I was saying,
- 21:56Speaker 1: but I probably shouldn't have said it. But you've got
- 21:57Speaker 1: to be a little bit smarter.
- 21:58Speaker 2: Have you not gotten a tweet ready and you're like,
- 22:00Speaker 2: you know what, I probably shouldn't send that out. He
- 22:03Speaker 2: knew for a long time that he was going up there.
- 22:06Speaker 1: I said it on the show yesterday. I don't know
- 22:08Speaker 1: why they're booing because they've scored 40-plus, 40-plus, 50-plus, but
- 22:14Speaker 1: they were booing the slow start again. They were booing
- 22:17Speaker 1: it was 21-6, and they were like, oh, my God,
- 22:19Speaker 1: we're about to lose to Florida State again. But in
- 22:22Speaker 1: the long run, when you play four quarters, Chapel, I
- 22:25Speaker 1: don't know if you know that they give you four quarters–
- 22:27Speaker 1: You play all four quarters. Gotcha, yeah. And at the end,
- 22:30Speaker 1: this guy's offense has delivered every game so far. And
- 22:34Speaker 1: through a crappy running game last year, this guy did
- 22:38Speaker 1: win football games last year. So he's done a good
- 22:41Speaker 1: job as an offensive coordinator. But I understand you're booing
- 22:45Speaker 1: early on because of the frustration of another slow start. Well,
- 22:49Speaker 1: it's circumstances. It just bothers me that he needs to
- 22:53Speaker 1: not really talk like that. I'm... I used to hate
- 22:56Speaker 1: that Nick Saban would let the assistants talk, but now
- 22:59Speaker 1: I totally understand.
- 23:00Speaker 2: Do you remember at Plains Trains and Automobiles when Steve
- 23:02Speaker 2: Martin comes in and he's like head to toe?
- 23:05Speaker 1: I've never seen it. I've referenced it a couple of times,
- 23:08Speaker 1: but I've never seen it. It's like the best Thanksgiving
- 23:11Speaker 1: movie ever. You really, really need to see it. It's incredible.
- 23:14Speaker 1: It is a good movie. This is the one with
- 23:15Speaker 1: John Candy, right? Yeah, John Candy and Steve Martin.
- 23:17Speaker 2: But Steve Martin comes in, they misplaced his rental, and
- 23:20Speaker 2: so he falls down a snowbank and he comes in.
- 23:22Speaker 2: And so the girl is very patient with him to
- 23:25Speaker 2: begin with. So I think you've got to practice a
- 23:27Speaker 2: little patience, right?
- 23:28Speaker 1: That's right. It's the first quarter. But I also think
- 23:31Speaker 1: you've got to practice some forgiveness, and that was kind
- 23:33Speaker 1: of my point. Did he say something dumb? Sure he did.
- 23:36Speaker 1: Did he regret it? I don't know. I mean, you
- 23:38Speaker 1: all have to debate whether he actually regrets it or
- 23:40Speaker 1: somebody made him do the apology. But at some point
- 23:42Speaker 1: you've got to say– Look, he said it. He apologized.
- 23:45Speaker 1: As long as we keep scoring points, I'm going to
- 23:47Speaker 1: move on. I mean, I don't know why you would
- 23:49Speaker 1: hold on to this.
- 23:49Speaker 2: The reason I bring up planes, trains, and automobiles, the
- 23:52Speaker 2: circumstance is like the fans had been in a two-hour
- 23:55Speaker 2: rain delay.
- 23:57Speaker 1: Oh, yeah.
- 23:58Speaker 2: This is not how you planned your day. You've got
- 23:59Speaker 2: other things going on. So you're already frustrated that you're
- 24:03Speaker 2: having to deal with that and you're waiting it out.
- 24:05Speaker 1: Yeah, that's what we said yesterday. Of all the times to...
- 24:08Speaker 1: To criticize Alabama fans, that was probably the worst day
- 24:10Speaker 1: to do it. Can I just say real quick? Yeah, sure.
- 24:14Speaker 1: I think two lessons here that we've seen over the
- 24:16Speaker 1: last two weeks, and these two are different situations, but
- 24:19Speaker 1: I'm going to tie them together real quick if you'll
- 24:21Speaker 1: let me. Steve Sarkeesian and Holly Rowe. The one thing
- 24:26Speaker 1: that a coach needs to understand is you don't have
- 24:28Speaker 1: the big salary, you don't have the great facilities, you
- 24:30Speaker 1: don't have the NIL money without the TV people. So
- 24:34Speaker 1: was ESPN having technical difficulties? Did they take too long
- 24:37Speaker 1: to get to Holly for the interview? Probably. But maybe
- 24:39Speaker 1: give them a little bit of grace because you're making $ 10,
- 24:42Speaker 1: $ 12 million a year because of them.
- 24:44Speaker 4: 100%.
- 24:44Speaker 1: All right? Ryan Grubb or any other coach, not just
- 24:49Speaker 1: Ryan Grubb, the only reason the TV folks pay that
- 24:52Speaker 1: kind of money is because the fans that buy the
- 24:54Speaker 1: tickets and sit at home and watch on TV. So
- 24:56Speaker 1: you know the one group you don't ever go after
- 24:57Speaker 1: is the fans. College fans are the most taken advantage of. 100%.
- 25:00Speaker 1: In any sports. That's right. They are the most taken
- 25:05Speaker 1: advantage of, the college football fans.
- 25:07Speaker 2: Why?
- 25:07Speaker 1: Because you think they're the most loyal? They are the
- 25:09Speaker 1: most loyal. I think they're blindly, well, not blindly, but
- 25:11Speaker 1: I think they are the most loyal and they get
- 25:13Speaker 1: crapped on more than any of them. I agree with
- 25:15Speaker 1: Jim on this.
- 25:15Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 25:16Speaker 1: They are the most loyal. I've never thought about it. Yeah.
- 25:19Speaker 1: But possibly. I'll tell you this.
- 25:20Speaker 2: I don't know why we always have to have apologies.
- 25:23Speaker 2: I don't necessarily think that was a bad apology. Yeah.
- 25:25Speaker 2: I think it was really, really quick. But, you know,
- 25:27Speaker 2: I didn't understand why Arch Manning had to apologize.
- 25:30Speaker 1: That was really stupid. I mean, if he did, I
- 25:31Speaker 1: thought Sark needed to. Hey, our Hard Rock Bet power
- 25:36Speaker 1: rating this week. On Tuesdays, we do the SEC. On Wednesdays,
- 25:40Speaker 1: we do the NFL. Here's our SEC power rating from
- 25:44Speaker 1: the guys brought to you by HardRock.Bet backslash Clay. We
- 25:48Speaker 1: stay with Georgia. The AP poll sticks with Texas, number
- 25:51Speaker 1: one in the country. We say, sure, if Texas is
- 25:54Speaker 1: number one in the country, they're number two in the
- 25:56Speaker 1: SEC in our power rating. I have Georgia one. You
- 25:59Speaker 1: have Georgia one? I have Georgia one. Did you vote
- 26:01Speaker 1: Georgia one? I'm stuck with Texas. You're stuck with Texas?
- 26:03Speaker 1: Texas has got a better run than Georgia does. Forrester, Brooks,
- 26:07Speaker 1: Georgia or Texas? I went Georgia, so I swung the vote. Okay.
- 26:11Speaker 1: I went Texas. Okay, so 3-2, Georgia-Texas. Scott and I are,
- 26:15Speaker 1: dare I say, choosing Texas. Ole Miss is up number three.
- 26:19Speaker 1: Alabama is four. LSU only drops to five. It gets
- 26:22Speaker 1: interesting here. And when I'm doing this, after two, well,
- 26:28Speaker 1: after three this week, four through five, Yeah, it's a
- 26:34Speaker 1: crash year. It was a lot alike. It is. Alabama, LSU, Florida, Tennessee,
- 26:38Speaker 1: Mississippi State at eight. A & M, Missouri, Kentucky, Oklahoma,
- 26:43Speaker 1: Auburn 13, South Carolina, Bandy Arkansas. How do we have Oklahoma?
- 26:48Speaker 1: But how do we have Kentucky behind A & M?
- 26:51Speaker 1: They worked A & M. Not on my poll. I
- 26:53Speaker 1: didn't either. I didn't either. Wait a minute. I had
- 26:56Speaker 1: Kentucky behind me. How, Lance? They went to Kyle Field
- 26:59Speaker 1: and worked for him. I would like to see it again. Well,
- 27:01Speaker 1: I'd like to see it again. It only took once.
- 27:05Speaker 1: You talk about overreacting. Now, we know you're the king
- 27:07Speaker 1: of overreacting. They won the game. They beat him like
- 27:10Speaker 1: a drum. In Lance's defense, I did it too. Why?
- 27:15Speaker 1: I think A & M' s a better team.
- 27:16Speaker 6: Both Scott and Lance have A & M at No.
- 27:19Speaker 6: 9 and Kentucky at No.
- 27:20Speaker 1: 12. Based on what? So it's not even back-to-back.
- 27:23Speaker 2: No.
- 27:23Speaker 1: Because I went Kentucky 9, A.
- 27:25Speaker 6: & M 10.
- 27:25Speaker 1: Me too. I at least kept them connected.
- 27:28Speaker 2: I definitely think there are 11 teams better in the
- 27:31Speaker 2: conference than Kentucky.
- 27:32Speaker 1: That was no fluke. They just played Alabama for a
- 27:35Speaker 1: half better than Alabama. And then they went on the
- 27:38Speaker 1: road and beat Texas A & M.
- 27:39Speaker 2: I think you saw more of what Kentucky is in
- 27:43Speaker 2: that second half, where they got outscored 32-0.
- 27:46Speaker 1: I don't know. I think we saw what A &
- 27:47Speaker 1: M was. And I know what Oklahoma is. I can't
- 27:50Speaker 1: believe you guys have Oklahoma at 12. I don't know.
- 27:53Speaker 1: Do you get ESPN, Lance? Have you watched Oklahoma? I
- 27:55Speaker 1: literally have Oklahoma at 12. I might have them lower
- 27:59Speaker 1: than 12. They're a terrible offense. No, you had them
- 28:02Speaker 1: at 11. I did? Yeah.
- 28:03Speaker 6: Across the board, Ryan has Oklahoma 11. Dunaway has them 12.
- 28:09Speaker 6: Scott has them 11. I have them 12. And Lance
- 28:12Speaker 6: has them 6.
- 28:12Speaker 1: Okay. Six. Six.
- 28:16Speaker 2: I think outside of the top five, everything is like
- 28:20Speaker 2: piled up.
- 28:21Speaker 1: What's it going to take for you to come off Oklahoma?
- 28:23Speaker 1: Give me a Georgia outcome where you'll finally come in
- 28:25Speaker 1: here and say, okay, they were bad. You'll see an
- 28:28Speaker 1: upset alert coming up. Tennessee, Florida, Mississippi State. Kentucky, Texas,
- 28:36Speaker 1: A & M, Missouri. Any of those teams can beat Oklahoma? Yeah, no.
- 28:40Speaker 1: I think from 6 to 12, I'm going to cut
- 28:45Speaker 1: off before.
- 28:45Speaker 2: I think South Carolina, Auburn, Vanderbilt, and Arkansas, those four
- 28:48Speaker 2: are definitely the four in the back. But I think
- 28:51Speaker 2: from 6 to 11, I think any of those teams,
- 28:54Speaker 2: I mean, I think they're all interchangeable.
- 28:56Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 28:57Speaker 1: Who'd y'all have 15th? Vanderbilt. I think I had Vanderbilt.
- 29:00Speaker 1: I mean, they lost the game. Yeah, it was close.
- 29:03Speaker 1: I had South Carolina, and then I had Bandy. I
- 29:05Speaker 1: might have had South Carolina. That was pretty universal. Where
- 29:08Speaker 1: did y'all have Auburn? I had Auburn 13. We're the
- 29:12Speaker 1: group has them. I thought about having them 15.
- 29:16Speaker 6: An absolute logjam in the poll, though, from 9 through,
- 29:19Speaker 6: to your point of how difficult it gets, 9 through 12,
- 29:20Speaker 6: it is on our composite rating, 9.8, 10.0. 10.5. Sorry, 10.4, 10.5.
- 29:32Speaker 1: Another big, crazy social media day, other than the Ryan
- 29:37Speaker 1: Grubb comments, involving Camario Taylor. What that was is next
- 29:42Speaker 1: on the next round, presented by Hard Rock Bet here
- 29:45Speaker 1: on Sporting State. Something can be real, but bad timing
- 29:51Speaker 1: to discuss it. We talk about Mississippi State football after
- 29:55Speaker 1: LT tells us about Clay Travis Law. Hey, accidents do
- 29:58Speaker 1: not wait for a good time. One bad moment, a wreck,

- 30:38Speaker 1: Justin Bells on Twitter yesterday made it into everybody's algorithms
- 30:43Speaker 1: after the day wore on because everybody was commenting on
- 30:46Speaker 1: the tweet that said, if Camario Taylor wants to make
- 30:48Speaker 1: $ 10 million playing somewhere next year, he will. Hard to
- 30:52Speaker 1: believe Mississippi State retains him unless he's the most loyal
- 30:56Speaker 1: player in college football. That ignited everyone's thoughts about A,
- 31:02Speaker 1: Can Mississippi State retain him? And a lot of Mississippi
- 31:04Speaker 1: State people said no problem. They can get $ 10 million
- 31:07Speaker 1: to keep him if that's the price. B, that he
- 31:10Speaker 1: is that loyal. But a lot of people are like, God,
- 31:13Speaker 1: I hate we're to this point in college football. I agree.
- 31:16Speaker 1: That we're going into week four, one of the, if
- 31:19Speaker 1: not the most exciting superstars to burst under the scenes
- 31:23Speaker 1: or bust under the scenes, whichever way you want to go.
- 31:26Speaker 1: We're already talking about where he's going to play next
- 31:28Speaker 1: year instead of enjoying this year. All those things can
- 31:31Speaker 1: be true. But I mentioned it yesterday on the show.
- 31:34Speaker 1: $ 10 million. I thought he would be our first $ 10
- 31:37Speaker 1: million player. He will be that valuable next year. He
- 31:40Speaker 1: will be that valuable. But two things I hate. Number one,
- 31:43Speaker 1: I hate the fact that we're discussing this in week three.
- 31:46Speaker 1: Because Kamario Taylor is a tremendous football player. And can't
- 31:49Speaker 1: we just enjoy watching him play and let all this
- 31:52Speaker 1: NIL stuff play out in January or February? But number two,
- 31:56Speaker 1: I also hate that we just automatically assume every player
- 31:59Speaker 1: is up for the highest bidder. Why don't we just
- 32:00Speaker 1: automatically assume that? Because that's the way it's going. Not
- 32:03Speaker 1: every player. Not every player. I mean, it's unfair to
- 32:06Speaker 1: Kamario Taylor to say he's going to be Darian Mensah.
- 32:08Speaker 1: That's right. Darian Mensah did what Darian Mensah needed to do,
- 32:11Speaker 1: and that's fine. I have no problem with him doing that.
- 32:13Speaker 1: I'll give you the example. We assume Arch Manning didn't
- 32:17Speaker 1: maximize the amount of money he can make at Texas.
- 32:20Speaker 1: Many people have said that, yes. That he took less
- 32:22Speaker 1: money because he wanted to be loyal to Texas. That's right.
- 32:24Speaker 1: Why don't we assume that for Camario Taylor?
- 32:26Speaker 2: Well, I think the assumption is, and not to get
- 32:29Speaker 2: into demographics and all that kind of stuff, but the
- 32:33Speaker 2: Mannings have a ton of money.
- 32:34Speaker 1: And so the money's not that important. We don't know
- 32:36Speaker 1: what the Taylor family are. Yeah, I have no idea. But,
- 32:39Speaker 1: I mean, Ty Simpson's a great example, too. Ty Simpson
- 32:41Speaker 1: point-blank said... If he wanted to play another year of
- 32:44Speaker 1: college football, he had offers that were much larger than
- 32:46Speaker 1: what Alabama was paying him. That's right. But he decided,
- 32:49Speaker 1: I'm not going to do that. I want a legacy
- 32:50Speaker 1: at Alabama, and I'll go on to the NFL. He
- 32:52Speaker 1: didn't know he was going to be drafted into the
- 32:53Speaker 1: first round by Lance's Rams.
- 32:54Speaker 2: But if Camario is offered $ 8 million to $ 10 million,
- 32:57Speaker 2: and Mississippi State can only.
- 32:58Speaker 1: Pay him $ 4 million, he's got to go. But he
- 33:00Speaker 1: may not. I mean, I would agree with you. The
- 33:03Speaker 1: money would tell you to go, but the kid may
- 33:05Speaker 1: just love Mississippi State. He may love his time in Seattle.
- 33:07Speaker 2: Well, I would think that they probably, I mean, and
- 33:09Speaker 2: it might be an imbalance of the roster now, they'll
- 33:12Speaker 2: find a way to pay him what he wants.
- 33:14Speaker 1: I think this is probably a waste of time for
- 33:16Speaker 1: people to have this discussion because Lance is right. There'll
- 33:19Speaker 1: be a Mississippi State booster that's got enough bourbon in
- 33:21Speaker 1: him after an Egg Bowl win that'll be like, you
- 33:24Speaker 1: put me down for what we need. I got it.
- 33:26Speaker 1: The other thing is, though, how far can you get?
- 33:29Speaker 1: I mean.
- 33:29Speaker 2: Again, I'm going to bring it back to the Rams.
- 33:31Speaker 2: Stafford knew, like in Detroit, this ain't going to work.
- 33:33Speaker 2: I got to go somewhere else. If Camario really wants
- 33:36Speaker 2: to win a national championship, it ain't going to be
- 33:38Speaker 2: in Starkville.
- 33:39Speaker 4: Wow.
- 33:39Speaker 1: There's no house in Tuscany. I mean, he's not wrong.
- 33:44Speaker 1: I mean, it's hard to imagine them making a college
- 33:47Speaker 1: football playoff and then winning three or four games. I'm
- 33:49Speaker 1: going to do it. I'm going to do it. You'd
- 33:51Speaker 1: have said the same thing about Indiana. Oh, I would have.
- 33:54Speaker 1: I brought up Camario and Cam Newton a couple of
- 33:56Speaker 1: weeks ago. I'm just saying. When I said this team's
- 33:58Speaker 1: going to beat Alabama and people got upset. I know.
- 34:01Speaker 1: I'm just saying. You said the same thing about Indiana.
- 34:03Speaker 1: But beating Alabama and then still finishing the year and
- 34:06Speaker 1: then making the playoffs and then winning four games or
- 34:09Speaker 1: three games when you get there. If they went eight
- 34:11Speaker 1: and four, I'd be blown away.
- 34:12Speaker 6: Is there potential that maybe he saw Mississippi State be
- 34:15Speaker 6: ranked number one for five weeks and were a fourth
- 34:18Speaker 6: quarter away from being in the college football playoff?
- 34:21Speaker 1: They were ranked fourth. He was like in second grade.
- 34:23Speaker 1: That would have been 2014, so that would have been
- 34:25Speaker 1: 12 years ago. He would have been sixth. He could
- 34:31Speaker 1: watch TV at 6. Maybe you love Dak Prescott. Maybe
- 34:34Speaker 1: he's like, that'll be me one day. I'll go. If
- 34:36Speaker 1: Dak couldn't get him there, I want to finish what
- 34:38Speaker 1: Dak started. Maybe Dak is Mark Cuban. Maybe he's paying
- 34:41Speaker 1: a big chunk of the quarterback.
- 34:43Speaker 2: I would love to see it. Like we talked about yesterday,
- 34:46Speaker 2: an undefeated, undefeated Egg Bowl. I mean, the chances are,
- 34:49Speaker 2: I think, 1% right now.
- 34:50Speaker 1: But it would be awesome. I mean, would you say
- 34:53Speaker 1: Trinidad Chambliss could never win a national championship at Ole Miss?
- 34:56Speaker 1: I would have said that.
- 34:57Speaker 2: I know.
- 34:57Speaker 1: I wouldn't say it now.
- 34:58Speaker 5: I know.
- 34:59Speaker 1: That's what I'm saying. I mean, why can't Camario– if
- 35:02Speaker 1: Trinidad Chambliss could do it at Ole Miss, why can't
- 35:04Speaker 1: Camario Taylor not do it at Mississippi State? What does
- 35:06Speaker 1: Ole Miss have that Mississippi State doesn't have? Exactly. Nothing. Nothing. Well,
- 35:09Speaker 1: they've got a better roster right now. They do right now.
- 35:11Speaker 1: They do right now, yeah. But I'm saying State can
- 35:12Speaker 1: fix that.
- 35:13Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 35:13Speaker 1: But I still think that they're going to lose this week.
- 35:16Speaker 1: I'm talking about Ole Miss. Ole Miss, yeah. And they
- 35:17Speaker 1: probably are.
- 35:17Speaker 5: Going to lose.
- 35:18Speaker 1: No, I'm with you. I don't think Ole Miss is
- 35:19Speaker 1: going to win the national championship. But you can't say
- 35:21Speaker 1: Trinidad Chambliss could do it at Ole Miss– But Kamario
- 35:24Speaker 1: Taylor could never do it at State. Chris Lowe, nice
- 35:26Speaker 1: story today, how the state of Mississippi is quarterback nirvana
- 35:30Speaker 1: right now with Trinidad Jambliss and Kamario Taylor. It's crazy. Yeah,
- 35:33Speaker 1: we said it yesterday. It's hard to imagine a best
- 35:37Speaker 1: state with two quarterbacks that are more enjoyable to watch.
- 35:42Speaker 1: The entertainment factor on both of them are tremendous. Sneaky good, though,
- 35:46Speaker 1: because I started thinking about that. I mean, the number
- 35:47Speaker 1: two state might be Utah. Well, I was going sneaky good.
- 35:51Speaker 1: Kentucky with Keen Hulse and Minchie. That's true. Sneaky good
- 35:55Speaker 1: right now. I mean, I know you crapped on Kentucky
- 35:57Speaker 1: last segment. I like Will Stein. I'm just saying.
- 36:01Speaker 2: I don't think that they're like one of the top
- 36:04Speaker 2: five teams in the SEC.
- 36:05Speaker 1: I don't know where you guys are on Philo. He
- 36:07Speaker 1: looked pretty good Saturday night. for a lot of that game.
- 36:09Speaker 1: But Philo and Mensah together in Florida could be good.
- 36:13Speaker 2: You know, when I look at that offense, I think
- 36:15Speaker 2: Philo might be the weak link. I'm not saying he's
- 36:17Speaker 2: not a good quarterback. I think he's good.
- 36:19Speaker 1: You're standing at the bus door keeping Mensah and the,
- 36:21Speaker 1: I mean, keeping Daniels, Ashton Daniels, and the rest of
- 36:24Speaker 1: them off the bus. No, no, no, no, no. Two-seater, two-seater.
- 36:27Speaker 1: I mean, with Jaden Bond, those receivers, I'm just saying, like,
- 36:30Speaker 1: I mean, he's good. Well, apparently Buster Faulkner invented offense. So,
- 36:34Speaker 1: I mean, Philo's going to put some numbers up.
- 36:36Speaker 4: Oh.
- 36:36Speaker 1: Thank you for walking into the next line here. Did
- 36:39Speaker 1: Buster Faulkner invent offense? Yes. They are third right now
- 36:43Speaker 1: in the FBS. That's what I'm told. Buster Faulkner, Georgia Tech,
- 36:47Speaker 1: when he was there, 11th in yards per game. This year, 104th.
- 36:51Speaker 1: Florida last year, 102nd in yards per game. They're third now.
- 36:58Speaker 1: Buster Faulkner effect.
- 36:59Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 36:59Speaker 1: From Karen, one of our great people. I think it's
- 37:01Speaker 1: going to expose Brent Key.
- 37:03Speaker 2: I think Dabo's getting exposed by lack of coordinators right now.
- 37:06Speaker 1: I mean, this happens with some of these coaches. So
- 37:08Speaker 1: is Buster Faulkner the hot head coach name? Probably, 44
- 37:12Speaker 1: years old. MVP Mertz as well for that Twitter stat.
- 37:19Speaker 1: I mean, had you guys heard of this guy? Oh,
- 37:23Speaker 1: last year. Just a little bit. Georgia Tech, yeah. And
- 37:25Speaker 1: then when he came over, it was a big talk
- 37:27Speaker 1: in the offseason. It's amazing, dude. Yeah, it is. Hey,
- 37:30Speaker 1: Chris Doering's going to talk a little SEC football with
- 37:32Speaker 1: us coming up at the top of the hour, 11 Eastern,
- 37:35Speaker 1: 10 Central, hour number two. When we come back here
- 37:38Speaker 1: on Sporting State, a little bit of a prove-it weekend
- 37:43Speaker 1: for one coach on a national level. Think about it.
- 37:47Speaker 1: Close your eyes. Imagine who that prove-it weekend is. Can
- 37:51Speaker 1: you see it? Can you see it? When we come
- 37:55Speaker 1: back right here on the next round. Back with you
- 37:58Speaker 1: on the next round, presented by Hard Rock Bets on
- 38:00Speaker 1: Sport and State. This isn't the coach I'm talking about,
- 38:04Speaker 1: but here's Steve Sarkeesian on going to Tennessee. Number one,
- 38:08Speaker 1: going on the road to play 14th ranked Tennessee, their
- 38:11Speaker 1: first meeting in Knoxville since 1969. you know, here's the deal, right?
- 38:17Speaker 4: We're starting SEC play. And, you know, we've all sat
- 38:20Speaker 4: around when you had some time Saturday and watched some
- 38:23Speaker 4: of the games. And this conference, I've said it time
- 38:26Speaker 4: and time again, from top to bottom, anybody can beat anybody.
- 38:30Speaker 4: And I think that's the challenge of our conference is
- 38:33Speaker 4: being mentally and physically prepared to play week in and
- 38:37Speaker 4: week out. And for us this week, it's no different.
- 38:39Speaker 4: We're going into what I would probably consider is the
- 38:42Speaker 4: loudest stadium in the country, Neyland Stadium. I think Coach
- 38:45Speaker 4: Heupel's done a tremendous job there.
- 38:49Speaker 1: Loudest stadium in the country, he says, in the stadium. Yeah,
- 38:53Speaker 1: I agree. I've seen it. Let's pull up the Texas
- 38:56Speaker 1: schedule and maybe see how many more times Sark will
- 38:59Speaker 1: say that this year. Because it is true this week
- 39:03Speaker 1: going to play there. But that Texas schedule looking ahead,
- 39:07Speaker 1: I know at least one other time he's going to
- 39:09Speaker 1: say that. Because don't they go to Baton Rouge? Oh,
- 39:12Speaker 1: turns out they do. Yeah, so they go to Baton
- 39:14Speaker 1: Rouge and they go to Kyle Field. Now, Texas A & M,
- 39:19Speaker 1: it gets loud there. I don't know if they win
- 39:21Speaker 1: big games there, but it gets loud there at Kyle Field.
- 39:24Speaker 1: So do you think he says when they go to
- 39:26Speaker 1: Baton Rouge in early November, does he say, we're going
- 39:30Speaker 1: to what I think is the Loudest stadium. Did you
- 39:33Speaker 1: say that?
- 39:34Speaker 2: Yeah, I think you got to check yourself. You can't
- 39:36Speaker 2: pull a Butch Jones and continue to say this. Double down,
- 39:39Speaker 2: double down, double down.
- 39:40Speaker 1: And then Kyle Field. You never said about Kyle Field.
- 39:44Speaker 1: That's one of your rivals.
- 39:46Speaker 2: At their loudest, I would say Neyland is probably the
- 39:49Speaker 2: loudest I've ever heard.
- 39:51Speaker 1: Tiger Stadium is close. The argument I've always made is about,
- 39:55Speaker 1: and this is primarily about night games at Tiger Stadium,
- 39:57Speaker 1: is How do you really tell the difference? Like, is
- 40:00Speaker 1: the night game at Tiger Stadium that much louder than
- 40:02Speaker 1: Neyland Stadium or Jordan here when Auburn's any good? Or,
- 40:05Speaker 1: you know, I mean, at some point, loud is loud. Like,
- 40:08Speaker 1: I can either communicate with my players or I can't.
- 40:11Speaker 1: And anything louder than my linemen can't hear me doesn't
- 40:14Speaker 1: really matter at that point, you know? And a lot
- 40:16Speaker 1: of these places, your linemen can't hear you. It's LSU, Tennessee, Texas,
- 40:20Speaker 1: A & M of those three in that order. And
- 40:23Speaker 1: to me, LSU is the loudest. Well, but, you know,
- 40:26Speaker 1: people make that– Big deal about A & M, and
- 40:28Speaker 1: they just never win meaningful games there, hardly. That doesn't
- 40:31Speaker 1: mean the, I don't want to paint you into a corner,
- 40:34Speaker 1: Ryan Grubb, but Doesn't mean the fans aren't doing their part.
- 40:37Speaker 1: They may be. But I'm like, that's the thing. And
- 40:39Speaker 1: I would say this about Tennessee in the 90s.
- 40:42Speaker 2: Like, I went a couple of years ago when they
- 40:43Speaker 2: beat Alabama, and it was a really good crowd. But
- 40:46Speaker 2: in the 90s is when they hit their kind of peak.
- 40:50Speaker 1: Boy, 2022, that was a zoo. The first time they
- 40:52Speaker 1: beat Alabama. Alabama, Tennessee, first time they beat them in
- 40:55Speaker 1: 15 years. That was a zoo. That seemed like it.
- 40:56Speaker 1: I was in Knoxville, but didn't make it into the stadium.
- 41:00Speaker 1: A little less in 2024. All right. The show being
- 41:03Speaker 1: brought to you by Crockett Coffee. And then I'll tell you,
- 41:06Speaker 1: it's a prove-it weekend for one coach. This Crockett Coffee, man,
- 41:11Speaker 1: is so good. And I finished my cup earlier today.
- 41:13Speaker 1: It's the coffee that Clay Travis and Buck Sexton and
- 41:17Speaker 1: Buck's little brother Mason came up with. And it's 100%
- 41:21Speaker 1: pure Arabica, high-altitude beans. It's roasted right in America's heartland.
- 41:25Speaker 1: Never sits on a shelf for six months. You get
- 41:28Speaker 1: it however you want it, light, medium, dark roasted, decaffeinated, organic.
- 41:31Speaker 1: They got the mushroom blend. They got the whole beans,
- 41:34Speaker 1: the ground, the K-Cups. They got it all for you.
- 41:36Speaker 1: You set up a subscription. It arrives on time. You
- 41:38Speaker 1: can cancel at any time. Change your subscription the way
- 41:41Speaker 1: the free market intended. Free shipping on orders above $ 59.
- 41:44Speaker 1: And the best part is you're helping out a great cause.
- 41:49Speaker 1: Crockett has partnered with Tunnel to Towers, building mortgage-free homes
- 41:53Speaker 1: for the families of fallen service members and for those
- 41:55Speaker 1: injured veterans and first responders. It's good coffee, made in America,
- 41:59Speaker 1: doing some good. That's CrockettCoffee.com. That's CrockettCoffee.com. It is absolutely
- 42:05Speaker 1: prove-it day for Lincoln Riley and USC. That was the
- 42:10Speaker 1: one I was going to say, and you could almost,
- 42:13Speaker 1: almost make an argument on both sides of this game.
- 42:15Speaker 1: Or Dan Lanning. Yeah, but Lanning has at least been
- 42:17Speaker 1: to the college football playoffs and has won a Big Ten.
- 42:20Speaker 1: This is where I was going. If you were going
- 42:22Speaker 1: to ask, who is it a perfect game for? And
- 42:25Speaker 1: you're much closer to this situation, Lance, but I was
- 42:27Speaker 1: going to say Lincoln, right? Big game, big game.
- 42:29Speaker 2: It's a massive game because when you look at what
- 42:31Speaker 2: they've got coming, Washington doesn't look as difficult as it
- 42:36Speaker 2: was going to be. Still could be a difficult game
- 42:39Speaker 2: in the Coliseum next week, the week after Oregon. But
- 42:43Speaker 2: I mean, this season really comes down to a couple
- 42:45Speaker 2: of games and, you know, they've got to find a
- 42:47Speaker 2: way to 10 and two.
- 42:48Speaker 1: They don't find a way to 10 and two. I
- 42:51Speaker 1: don't see Lincoln Riley back.
- 42:52Speaker 2: I really don't. I don't know whether they fire him.
- 42:54Speaker 2: It's a mutual agreement. He takes another job. But it's
- 42:57Speaker 2: going to be really difficult for him to miss the
- 42:58Speaker 2: college football playoff again.
- 43:00Speaker 1: If you lose this one to get to 10-2, you've
- 43:04Speaker 1: got to win two of these three games. So help
- 43:06Speaker 1: me here. Yeah, I was doing the opposite. If you
- 43:08Speaker 1: win this one, You can lose two or three. Yeah,
- 43:12Speaker 1: so it's the same three games. Let's just talk about
- 43:14Speaker 1: those games. At Penn State, who at times has looked good.
- 43:19Speaker 1: I watched the first half of them against Temple, and
- 43:21Speaker 1: I think it was a 3-0 halftime game. A little
- 43:23Speaker 1: bit of a paper tiger for me right now. Yeah,
- 43:24Speaker 1: I just don't know about them. I don't know about them.
- 43:27Speaker 1: I don't know who they've played that's any good. But
- 43:29Speaker 1: I do know about Ohio State, and you host them,
- 43:32Speaker 1: and then you're at Indiana. So this Oregon game, to
- 43:35Speaker 1: Jim's point, is do I need to win two or
- 43:38Speaker 1: three of those, or can I absorb two losses out
- 43:40Speaker 1: of those three?
- 43:40Speaker 2: The most difficult game stacking up, the most difficult left
- 43:43Speaker 2: is probably at Indiana or 1A, 1B, Ohio State and
- 43:48Speaker 2: the Coliseum. Then after that, it probably is Oregon this week.
- 43:52Speaker 2: then maybe Penn State, but then maybe at UCLA. That's
- 43:56Speaker 2: a game we're not.
- 43:56Speaker 1: Talking about right now. Yeah, I mean, UCLA, again, I
- 43:59Speaker 1: don't know who they've beaten. I don't know if Cal's
- 44:01Speaker 1: any good or not. Final segment of Sporting State today,
- 44:03Speaker 1: we will do, your paddle says... Tested? Not tested? Okay.
- 44:08Speaker 1: Not tested. But we'll do that coming up. Let me
- 44:10Speaker 1: just say, when I watch UCLA... They look like a
- 44:13Speaker 1: pretty good team. Oh, they're winded up. Yeah, Wayne Knight
- 44:16Speaker 1: can run the football. Nico's probably playing the best football
- 44:18Speaker 1: he's played.
- 44:19Speaker 2: Yeah, you've got experience there. Chesney's got these guys believing
- 44:22Speaker 2: right now. They've got a really difficult game. Trust me,
- 44:24Speaker 2: I watch them every Saturday night. They've been the late
- 44:26Speaker 2: game every Saturday night. Well, now they're East Coast this week,
- 44:29Speaker 2: and it's virtually a pick against Maryland. And I'll tell you,
- 44:32Speaker 2: Mike Loxley needs to win a game too. With all
- 44:35Speaker 2: that said, I don't know about this weekend. I don't
- 44:39Speaker 2: know how you guys feel. I kind of lean USC,
- 44:42Speaker 2: but I don't feel.
- 44:43Speaker 1: Good about it. You felt a lot better about it
- 44:44Speaker 1: in the offseason. I did. You were not expecting Oregon
- 44:48Speaker 1: to have back against the wall coming in with a loss.
- 44:50Speaker 1: I thought they'd be unbeaten.
- 44:51Speaker 2: Yeah, but Oregon just hasn't looked the part. But I'll
- 44:53Speaker 2: tell you, this Gary Patterson defense that looked so good
- 44:56Speaker 2: in Week 2 against Fresno State, it right now is leaking.
- 45:00Speaker 2: It's 93rd nationally against the pass right now. So the
- 45:05Speaker 2: defense has been shaky.
- 45:07Speaker 1: I'm willing to write a little bit, not all of it.
- 45:10Speaker 1: and I don't know if you are as a USC fan,
- 45:11Speaker 1: I'm willing to write a little bit of it off
- 45:14Speaker 1: going west to east and playing an earlier body clock
- 45:18Speaker 1: game against Rutgers. And the look-ahead factor. Yeah, and the look-ahead.
- 45:22Speaker 1: And that's not all of it. That's by no means
- 45:24Speaker 1: all of it.
- 45:25Speaker 2: Do you know what he is in road games, including
- 45:27Speaker 2: the win last week?
- 45:28Speaker 1: He being Lincoln Riley? Yeah, I'm talking about Lincoln Riley
- 45:30Speaker 1: in true road games in the Big Ten. How many
- 45:32Speaker 1: does he play? Nine. Nine and O? He's 3-6.
- 45:38Speaker 4: 3-6.
- 45:38Speaker 2: I mean, it's just not good enough. I know you've
- 45:45Speaker 2: pointed to next year. A lot of Alabama fans are like,
- 45:47Speaker 2: next year's the year. That is USC. Like, USC with
- 45:50Speaker 2: all of these freshmen, they're going to be really, really
- 45:53Speaker 2: good next year.
- 45:54Speaker 1: But I don't know if he's going to be around
- 45:55Speaker 1: to see it. Here's why at Penn State worries me.
- 45:57Speaker 1: If Saturday were at Penn State rather than at Rutgers,
- 46:00Speaker 1: they lose that game. I don't know if they stay
- 46:03Speaker 1: on the– oh, you're talking about– No, no, no, I'm
- 46:04Speaker 1: saying this past Saturday. If they played that game they
- 46:07Speaker 1: played at Rutgers against– At Penn State they lose that
- 46:09Speaker 1: game against Penn State.
- 46:09Speaker 2: Yeah, but they get blown out by Oregon this week
- 46:11Speaker 2: if they play that game.
- 46:12Speaker 1: That's right. So then we don't even have to worry
- 46:13Speaker 1: about it. And that is where we are in college
- 46:15Speaker 1: football now. If you don't bring your A game, you've
- 46:18Speaker 1: got a chance to take that L pretty easily. One
- 46:21Speaker 1: interesting note here as we get ready for that Oregon game,
- 46:27Speaker 1: Oregon's going to be without wide receiver Jeremiah McClellan. got
- 46:31Speaker 1: a foot injury there, and he's going to be out.
- 46:34Speaker 1: I think he had a really big game against Boise State.
- 46:37Speaker 1: He's a big factor in that passing game at times.
- 46:40Speaker 2: I think they're still trying to figure out who their
- 46:42Speaker 2: go-tos are right now for Dante Moore, and I think
- 46:44Speaker 2: that's been one of the problems. But, yeah, McClellan was
- 46:48Speaker 2: supposed to be a major factor, and he just, you know,
- 46:53Speaker 2: seven receptions through the first three games.
- 46:55Speaker 1: Yeah, and by the way, keep an eye on Miami
- 46:59Speaker 1: as their schedule gets a little tougher. Their injuries are
- 47:02Speaker 1: starting to stack up. They're down. This week they lost
- 47:06Speaker 1: their second running back in Charmar Brown. They lost their
- 47:09Speaker 1: third wide receiver on the depth chart, their third best
- 47:12Speaker 1: wide receiver, Josh Moore, second best running back. And they
- 47:15Speaker 1: have lost their best two corners and their fifth best corner.
- 47:20Speaker 1: So they've been depleted at the corner, the DB side,
- 47:23Speaker 1: and we're only three weeks into the season. They haven't
- 47:26Speaker 1: gotten to the tough part of their schedule. I don't
- 47:27Speaker 1: know if there is a tough part of their schedule.
- 47:29Speaker 2: I was about to say, you're talking about at Notre Dame?
- 47:30Speaker 2: They're a 41.5 point favorite this week against Central Michigan.
- 47:33Speaker 1: The tough part of their schedule might be at Notre Dame.
- 47:36Speaker 1: That's right. That might be the tough part of their schedule.
- 47:38Speaker 2: But, you know, teams that aren't great find losses. So,
- 47:41Speaker 2: whether it's Texas Tech or Miami, if they're really not
- 47:45Speaker 2: a complete team that they were last year, they're going
- 47:47Speaker 2: to find losses.
- 47:47Speaker 1: If those injuries end up being season-ending injuries... That may
- 47:52Speaker 1: not show up until they get to the playoffs, but
- 47:54Speaker 1: they won't be the team that they could have been
- 47:56Speaker 1: when we get to the college football playoff. One more
- 47:59Speaker 1: thing to get to before we get to Chris Doering,
- 48:03Speaker 1: and that is there are things you can do during
- 48:08Speaker 1: a game that really can show up your opponent. There's
- 48:14Speaker 1: nothing intentional by what Georgia and Kirby Smart and their
- 48:18Speaker 1: coaching staff have been doing because apparently They do it
- 48:21Speaker 1: all the time. It's just people noticed it this week
- 48:24Speaker 1: against Arkansas. But they ended up doing some defensive line
- 48:30Speaker 1: drills during TV timeouts on the road at Arkansas. It's
- 48:34Speaker 1: apparently a concept this defensive line coach has used elsewhere.
- 48:37Speaker 1: Trey Scott, I think. Yeah, and it's new to Georgia.
- 48:40Speaker 1: And those that cover Georgia are like, yeah, we've seen this.
- 48:42Speaker 1: We thought it was weird at first, but he's been
- 48:45Speaker 1: consistently doing it. So whether it's been Western Kentucky or
- 48:48Speaker 1: whomever they've been playing, during a TV timeout, they will
- 48:52Speaker 1: be running some D-line drills over on the side, and
- 48:56Speaker 1: that happened Saturday against Arkansas, and they brought it up
- 49:00Speaker 1: on the broadcast that, hey, during the timeout, Georgia's D-linemen
- 49:05Speaker 1: are doing drills, and Kirby gets asked about it afterwards,
- 49:09Speaker 1: and part of his answer was, well, you know, you
- 49:13Speaker 1: have to ask Trey Scott about that, the D-line coach,
- 49:16Speaker 1: but I know that they haven't been running the ball
- 49:17Speaker 1: a lot. They haven't been physical enough. So basically, we're
- 49:22Speaker 1: getting work in. We're getting our work in today. I
- 49:24Speaker 1: think he went on to say making sure they're earning
- 49:26Speaker 1: that NIL money. He did say that. I've seen it.
- 49:28Speaker 1: And listen, you can put in the twos, the threes,
- 49:34Speaker 1: the fours. You can take knees. You can just run
- 49:36Speaker 1: off tackle. to not show up, especially a conference opponent,
- 49:41Speaker 1: that may be worse than doing all of that, that
- 49:43Speaker 1: you're running defensive lineman drills in an SEC road game,
- 49:47Speaker 1: and you're saying afterwards they're not being physical enough? Well,
- 49:52Speaker 1: at least you give the Arkansas fans something to watch.
- 49:56Speaker 1: You know? God, they look good in drills. It's a
- 49:58Speaker 1: distraction from the game. The timeouts are more entertaining.
- 50:02Speaker 2: I mean, look, I do think Georgia's national championship good,
- 50:05Speaker 2: but they haven't been tested yet.
- 50:06Speaker 1: They haven't been tested yet. But do you think that
- 50:09Speaker 1: is insulting to see them running behind him for the
- 50:12Speaker 1: coach to say that? I don't think it was Kirby's intent.
- 50:14Speaker 1: I watched. I don't think it was either, but it
- 50:16Speaker 1: is insulting. It is insulting, but it's probably also true.
- 50:18Speaker 1: I mean, I don't think Kirby just made it up.
- 50:21Speaker 1: When you get the end of games and it's first
- 50:25Speaker 1: and goal at the three and the game's already decided,
- 50:28Speaker 1: do you want the opposing team who's beaten you 45-17,
- 50:32Speaker 1: do you want them to if they've got their twos
- 50:36Speaker 1: and threes in there, to go and run it off tackle,
- 50:38Speaker 1: or do you want them to take knees first and
- 50:39Speaker 1: go with the three? It's almost more insulting. I agree.
- 50:43Speaker 1: People are like, he ran up the score with that
- 50:45Speaker 1: late touchdown. He could have taken a knee. It's almost
- 50:48Speaker 1: more insulting to me if you're taking a knee if
- 50:50Speaker 1: it's first and go with the three.
- 50:51Speaker 2: I don't have a problem with it. The only time
- 50:54Speaker 2: I ever have a problem with it, and I probably shouldn't,
- 50:56Speaker 2: is if you've got your ones in up 21 trying
- 50:59Speaker 2: to punch it in late. Eli Drinkwitz, but he had
- 51:02Speaker 2: a point to prove. But if you've got your guys
- 51:04Speaker 2: that have been busting their ass in fall camp, your threes.
- 51:07Speaker 1: And your fours. Let them run the play. Yeah, give
- 51:10Speaker 1: them some reps. I don't particularly want you down there
- 51:12Speaker 1: running rubber outs trying to get a cheap touchdown. But
- 51:14Speaker 1: if you're just running it up the middle and I
- 51:16Speaker 1: can't stop you, that's on me. Yeah, it's more embarrassing
- 51:18Speaker 1: to me if it's first and goal at the three
- 51:21Speaker 1: and you've got your threes in there. Let that kid
- 51:24Speaker 1: get a little glory and get a touchdown. Taking a knee.
- 51:26Speaker 1: That's on me, man. But you know I've made the
- 51:28Speaker 1: case before. If it's SEC versus SEC, it's impossible to
- 51:31Speaker 1: run the score up. There's no such thing as running
- 51:34Speaker 1: the score up on SEC. Now, if they're playing Furman
- 51:37Speaker 1: or something like that, that's going to be a different feeling.
- 51:40Speaker 1: We'll talk about everything we've seen through three weeks, a
- 51:43Speaker 1: quarter of the regular season in the SEC with Chris
- 51:46Speaker 1: Doering of the SEC Network when he joins us next
- 51:49Speaker 1: on the next round presented by Hard Rock Bet on
- 51:52Speaker 1: Sporting State.
