- 1:15Speaker 1: always check out the podcast at WIBA dot com or
- 1:19Speaker 1: of course the iHeartRadio app. We can find this there
- 1:21Speaker 1: as ask the experts also real quick before we start
- 1:24Speaker 1: taking some questions and some calls, Andrew, I did want
- 1:27Speaker 1: to ask you. We talked about the podcast, but you
- 1:29Speaker 1: also do a fantastic video series a YouTube channel, and
- 1:33Speaker 1: you share that on your Facebook page and other things
- 1:36Speaker 1: where you tackle a lot of the stuff we discussed
- 1:38Speaker 1: here on the program. You tackle it as well on
- 1:41Speaker 1: the on the YouTube channel, don't you.
- 1:44Speaker 3: We try to you know, social media, I mean if
- 1:47Speaker 3: YouTube can be considered social media, but I think it
- 1:51Speaker 3: is actually the largest the second largest search engine used YouTube.
- 1:56Speaker 3: I mean you can literally figure out how to do
- 1:58Speaker 3: almost which is scary too. Right, I'm going to change
- 2:03Speaker 3: the brakes on my car. I mean, I don't know
- 2:05Speaker 3: about you, but that's not me. I would always be
- 2:09Speaker 3: thinking that I didn't tighten something right when I come
- 2:12Speaker 3: to a stop sign. But you know that goes back
- 2:15Speaker 3: to the d y I or not d y I, right,
- 2:20Speaker 3: But yeah, we.
- 2:21Speaker 2: Try to tackle the little things.
- 2:23Speaker 3: We have a great videographer, photographer editor on staff and
- 2:28Speaker 3: his name is Ian, and Ian is kind of a
- 2:32Speaker 3: creative genius and I know he's been doing some some
- 2:37Speaker 3: little mini series on how to do different things and
- 2:40Speaker 3: like what different parts of the roof are for what,
- 2:42Speaker 3: you know, pointing out to be like how many people
- 2:44Speaker 3: know what the difference between a drip edge and a
- 2:46Speaker 3: gutter apron are? Probably not many, many, but they are different,
- 2:51Speaker 3: and they's they're used for specific areas, and uh, you know,
- 2:54Speaker 3: we try to put videos out explaining that type of stuff.
- 2:57Speaker 3: You know, also something that anybody listening who's ever had
- 3:00Speaker 3: an estimate from us or used us to do their roof.
- 3:03Speaker 3: We go into great detail on exactly what we do,
- 3:08Speaker 3: how we what we do, where we use it, how
- 3:11Speaker 3: much of it we use, just so everybody's on the
- 3:14Speaker 3: same page. So if the homeowner wants to be educated
- 3:17Speaker 3: and actually sit outside and watch us when we roof,
- 3:20Speaker 3: they can roof and go oh yeah, I remember they
- 3:22Speaker 3: showed me that under layman.
- 3:23Speaker 2: They showed me where the drip edge and all that
- 3:25Speaker 2: stuff goes.
- 3:26Speaker 3: So we try to do the videos to educate people
- 3:29Speaker 3: on how things are supposed to be done and done correctly.
- 3:32Speaker 2: And Ian does a phenomenal job of that, so.
- 3:36Speaker 1: And definitely want to check those out again. You can
- 3:38Speaker 1: find them on YouTube. Large home services Lars and Kini
- 3:41Speaker 1: right on their YouTube channel or Facebook page has links
- 3:44Speaker 1: to that stuff as well. If you've got a question
- 3:46Speaker 1: for Andrew, love to have you join us this morning,
- 3:49Speaker 1: gets you on the air six oh eight three two
- 3:50Speaker 1: one thirteen ten. That's six oh eight three two one
- 3:53Speaker 1: thirteen ten. Whether it's about roofing or installation or anything
- 3:56Speaker 1: related to your home. Andrew is a great resource and
- 3:59Speaker 1: we've got a great opportunity to ask him a question
- 4:01Speaker 1: right here on air.
- 4:01Speaker 2: Again.
- 4:02Speaker 1: The teleph number to get on the show six eight
- 4:04Speaker 1: three two one thirteen ten. That's six oh eight three
- 4:06Speaker 1: two one thirteen ten. And Andrew, I had a question
- 4:09Speaker 1: because I have a neighbor, literally my next door neighbor.
- 4:12Speaker 1: They're having some type of something done on the inside
- 4:14Speaker 1: their house. I haven't actually had a chance to go
- 4:16Speaker 1: over there and ask and see.
- 4:17Speaker 2: What's going on.
- 4:18Speaker 1: I didn't be Yeah, I know I got to get
- 4:20Speaker 1: better about that. I'm really really fair, but I do
- 4:24Speaker 1: two things going on there is there's a there's a
- 4:28Speaker 1: kind of a beat up truck that's been doing the
- 4:30Speaker 1: work and like an old the pickup truck trailer that's
- 4:34Speaker 1: being used to like turn into it like a like
- 4:37Speaker 1: a pickup bed, like the back end of a pickup
- 4:39Speaker 1: truck that's being kind of be honest with you and me,
- 4:42Speaker 1: it's kind of ugly and kind of getting on my
- 4:44Speaker 1: nerves that it's sitting in their driveway, but they're using
- 4:46Speaker 1: it to put like garbage in. They're filling it up
- 4:50Speaker 1: with with Is that like a like as I look
- 4:53Speaker 1: at that stuff and it's been there for a couple
- 4:54Speaker 1: of days, is that like a fair question? Like when
- 4:57Speaker 1: you're sitting down with a contractor and whether it's know
- 5:00Speaker 1: whether it's talking roofs or talking interior remodeling, kind of
- 5:04Speaker 1: ask them like, what what's your presentation? How are you
- 5:08Speaker 1: going to get the waste out? Is there going to
- 5:09Speaker 1: be a dumpster?
- 5:10Speaker 2: If not?
- 5:10Speaker 1: What kind of I mean? Is that kind of a
- 5:12Speaker 1: fair question? Is that something that a contractor should readily
- 5:15Speaker 1: be able to answer for you?
- 5:18Speaker 2: I think it's a very fair question.
- 5:19Speaker 3: I don't think it's a question that most people would
- 5:21Speaker 3: ever ask because it's something that they would never think of.
- 5:23Speaker 3: And you know, the old beat up truck and the
- 5:26Speaker 3: old beat up trailer.
- 5:27Speaker 2: Like, hey, if.
- 5:29Speaker 3: You're doing a good job, you're doing a good job.
- 5:31Speaker 3: But this brings me to another point of.
- 5:37Speaker 2: And I'm not saying I don't know, I don't know.
- 5:39Speaker 3: Listen, I don't know who this is. They might be amazing,
- 5:41Speaker 3: they might be doing great work. They just don't want
- 5:43Speaker 3: to spend money in vehicles. But here's what I can
- 5:46Speaker 3: tell you from experience. Usually people like that are going
- 5:51Speaker 3: to be the cheap people. Ah, right, And there's specific
- 5:53Speaker 3: reasons for that, but they're going to be the cheap people.
- 5:56Speaker 3: And not saying that the cheap people don't do a
- 5:59Speaker 3: good job. I'm not saying that because usually the cheap
- 6:01Speaker 3: people are like one or two man bands, and you know,
- 6:04Speaker 3: that's all they have. They don't have any overhead, no expenses.
- 6:08Speaker 3: I mean, we we have a large company and we've
- 6:12Speaker 3: got a lot of great people that work there and
- 6:14Speaker 3: they make a really good living. And the benefit to
- 6:17Speaker 3: the homeowner for that is yet you will pay more
- 6:20Speaker 3: for our services. But the reason you're going to pay
- 6:22Speaker 3: more for our services is you're paying for expertise.
- 6:26Speaker 2: That's what you're paying for.
- 6:27Speaker 3: You are paying for people that have been with with
- 6:29Speaker 3: with Larson or with Ki for many years. I mean,
- 6:33Speaker 3: we've got well, I've got gutter guys that have been with.
- 6:36Speaker 2: Me for fifteen years. Wow. And there's a reason for that.
- 6:39Speaker 2: They make a great living.
- 6:40Speaker 3: They they they get married, they have families, they buy
- 6:43Speaker 3: homes like, they make a great living.
- 6:44Speaker 2: And that's what you're paying for. You're not paying for
- 6:46Speaker 2: the cheap guy who is paying.
- 6:49Speaker 3: I can't even say ten dollars an hour anymore because
- 6:51Speaker 3: I don't think anybody get out of bed for that.
- 6:52Speaker 3: But you know it's probably around that fifteen dollars an hour.
- 6:56Speaker 3: Like people aren't sticking around for that job.
- 6:58Speaker 2: That's a season. All go do this for a little
- 7:00Speaker 2: while and I'm out.
- 7:02Speaker 3: And the other problem with those cheap estimates is this
- 7:05Speaker 3: is the biggest problem. I know, most of these people
- 7:08Speaker 3: have the best of intentions. I'm gonna go do a
- 7:11Speaker 3: great job for these people, but what they don't know
- 7:14Speaker 3: is they don't know how to bid projects properly. So
- 7:17Speaker 3: if you get estimates and you see one at twenty
- 7:20Speaker 3: thousand and one, at twenty one thousand, at one, at eleven.
- 7:23Speaker 3: And it's because we see this all the time, and
- 7:26Speaker 3: it's for the same thing, quote unquote. There's something drastically
- 7:30Speaker 3: missing here, and usually that's experience.
- 7:34Speaker 2: Usually that's the.
- 7:35Speaker 3: Know how of how to bid a job properly so
- 7:38Speaker 3: you can get that job done in a timely manner
- 7:41Speaker 3: and you can stick around so if there are problems
- 7:45Speaker 3: two years down the road, a year down the road,
- 7:48Speaker 3: five years down the road, you still have a working
- 7:50Speaker 3: phone number.
- 7:51Speaker 2: To call so you can come back.
- 7:52Speaker 3: I set honestly, if I had a dollar for every
- 7:55Speaker 3: time someone called and said, hey, my roof's only five
- 7:59Speaker 3: years old, it's leaking. Honestly, our question is, well, what
- 8:03Speaker 3: about the other contractor that did it? Yeah, they're not
- 8:05Speaker 3: in business anymore. I mean it's like a broken record,
- 8:10Speaker 3: and you don't I feel bad for people, but a
- 8:14Speaker 3: little bit of me inside goes, well, told you so,
- 8:18Speaker 3: like you go with the cheap person. That's usually what happens.
- 8:21Speaker 3: And I'm not trying to sit on here because everybody
- 8:24Speaker 3: starts somewhere. Look, when I first started, I had four employees. Yeah,
- 8:27Speaker 3: like that's where we started and you have to build
- 8:31Speaker 3: from somewhere. It is what it is. What we know
- 8:36Speaker 3: is that when you look on the Better Business Bureau,
- 8:39Speaker 3: there's roughly since nineteen fifty or so since a Better
- 8:43Speaker 3: Business Bureau has been around.
- 8:44Speaker 2: These stats are about twenty years old.
- 8:46Speaker 3: It's probably more like fifteen million complaints from contractors specifically,
- 8:51Speaker 3: and they did a survey and in that survey, they
- 8:54Speaker 3: found eighty percent of those homeowners that complained admitted that
- 8:57Speaker 3: they went with the cheapest estimate.
- 9:00Speaker 1: What I find eye opening, it is it that that's
- 9:03Speaker 1: that's shocking to learn. And again you think about cost
- 9:07Speaker 1: versus value and what you're getting, and you know, I
- 9:10Speaker 1: think all of us, like as educated consumers want something
- 9:14Speaker 1: to be of value, Like what's you know kind of
- 9:16Speaker 1: doing that that formulation it's not just cost, is what
- 9:19Speaker 1: are you getting? And you know, you highlight, you know,
- 9:23Speaker 1: a situation where maybe some of the some of the
- 9:26Speaker 1: bids are significantly lower. What I know is obviously when
- 9:30Speaker 1: you do a lot of roofs and you're buying a
- 9:32Speaker 1: lot of shingles, you get a you probably get a
- 9:35Speaker 1: little bit of a reduction in materials cost, but not
- 9:38Speaker 1: not ten twenty thirty percent you talking a couple percent here,
- 9:41Speaker 1: a couple percent. There's clearly some when you look at
- 9:44Speaker 1: those numbers as a homeowner, clearly there's something being cut
- 9:48Speaker 1: in that There's there's somewhere that that that something's happening. Now,
- 9:52Speaker 1: you may may not know exactly what that is, and
- 9:54Speaker 1: clearly on some cases the person that that submitted that
- 9:57Speaker 1: bid may not know that either. What's but in the end,
- 10:00Speaker 1: you're going to pay for it. You're going to pay
- 10:02Speaker 1: that extra that difference. And then if it's you know,
- 10:04Speaker 1: if it's something you mentioned situations where a couple few
- 10:07Speaker 1: years later, people are coming back and saying, my roof
- 10:10Speaker 1: is leaking. That's a I you know that, that's a
- 10:13Speaker 1: really dispense.
- 10:14Speaker 2: Yeah, how we get it. Yeah, we get it all
- 10:17Speaker 2: the time. And I feel terrible for people. Yeah, but
- 10:21Speaker 2: you know.
- 10:22Speaker 3: That's why we charge what we can charge, because we
- 10:24Speaker 3: know how much we need to charge to make a profit,
- 10:28Speaker 3: to stay in business.
- 10:29Speaker 2: To can you continue to grow, to can you continue to.
- 10:31Speaker 3: Serve our customers for I don't know how many more
- 10:35Speaker 3: years to come?
- 10:35Speaker 2: Well, who knows. One of the teen years went real quick.
- 10:40Speaker 1: Its it's pretty amazing too. And one of the things
- 10:43Speaker 1: too I do have to mention we've talked about the
- 10:45Speaker 1: work you guys have done on the Prebowl estate and
- 10:48Speaker 1: uh and one of the things that we started this
- 10:50Speaker 1: conversation talking about, you know, the kind of a beat
- 10:53Speaker 1: up truck and beat up trailer in the driveway. One
- 10:55Speaker 1: of the things that is important is you mentioned that
- 10:58Speaker 1: that your guys are are with you for a long time,
- 11:01Speaker 1: that they're and part of the reason is they're you know,
- 11:03Speaker 1: they're compensated well because they have really good skills and
- 11:06Speaker 1: they have you know, whether it's the the guys doing
- 11:08Speaker 1: the work or the guys and gals out there doing
- 11:11Speaker 1: the estimates and and doing the actually helping folks, you know,
- 11:16Speaker 1: get that new roof, for get those new guys. Super knowledgeable,
- 11:19Speaker 1: highly educated. They're also very professional, not only in their behavior,
- 11:24Speaker 1: in their knowledge, but their appearance as well. You've got
- 11:26Speaker 1: you know, your trucks are nice, very you know there
- 11:29Speaker 1: it's very clear whose trucks they are. You're not, you know,
- 11:32Speaker 1: like I think some of these people they're kind of
- 11:34Speaker 1: embarrassed to show their trucks, so they don't really show
- 11:36Speaker 1: off their name is you know who the trucks are.
- 11:40Speaker 1: The nice shirts with the with the nice embroidery with
- 11:42Speaker 1: the logo on it, so you know who you're talking with.
- 11:45Speaker 1: Those kind of littler things that that as a consumer
- 11:49Speaker 1: are important to know that there is a commitment that
- 11:51Speaker 1: that the company is committed to its employees, not just
- 11:54Speaker 1: the them personally, but also their appearance and their interactions
- 11:58Speaker 1: and their knowledge. That's really important factor in all of
- 12:01Speaker 1: this too, isn't it, Andrew.
- 12:03Speaker 2: It's it's a it means. It means so much.
- 12:07Speaker 3: Honestly, it's something that a lot of people don't really
- 12:10Speaker 3: think about. But the way that our vehicles look and
- 12:13Speaker 3: the way that our our technicians look when they show
- 12:17Speaker 3: up wearing you know, wearing on Lars and Arkini clothing,
- 12:21Speaker 3: like it's extremely important to me. Perception is everything, right,
- 12:27Speaker 3: I mean, our first impressions are everything. So when we
- 12:31Speaker 3: are we we know that our we know that our
- 12:33Speaker 3: technicians have an amazing skill set, but they need to
- 12:37Speaker 3: look like they do too. And and that guess what
- 12:39Speaker 3: that all that all costs extra money, so it it
- 12:43Speaker 3: all starts to add up. And but that's what you know,
- 12:45Speaker 3: that's what it This cost of doing business, I guess
- 12:49Speaker 3: should say it. And having a great company and being
- 12:51Speaker 3: able to be in business for years and years and
- 12:54Speaker 3: years and keep growing every year. I mean we keep growing,
- 12:57Speaker 3: we keep expanding, we open more offices because when you
- 13:01Speaker 3: do the right thing, people people pay attention and people notice,
- 13:05Speaker 3: and so we never run out of.
- 13:07Speaker 2: People wanting to get work done by us.
- 13:10Speaker 3: I will say, yes, that it is a constance call,
- 13:13Speaker 3: which is it's an honor.
- 13:15Speaker 2: So it is.
- 13:16Speaker 1: And as we're kind of getting into the cooler months,
- 13:18Speaker 1: you guys work year round at larsenome Services, it's always
- 13:21Speaker 1: a fantastic time to get on the schedule. Of course,
- 13:24Speaker 1: all you gotta do is head on over to the
- 13:25Speaker 1: website Larsenomeservices dot com. Even better this morning, pick up phone,
