- 0:00Speaker 1: And when you land, you are twelve minutes from the
- 0:03Speaker 1: Cotton District or Davis Wade Stadium. We welcome in Steve
- 0:07Speaker 1: robertson Jeans Page dot Com, two four seven Sports. Steve
- 0:11Speaker 1: joins us on the Farm Bureau Insurance guest line. Steve,
- 0:15Speaker 1: can you can you feel the excitement around Mississippi State football?
- 0:23Speaker 2: Well, we have our first media opportunity today and I
- 0:26Speaker 2: think that will stove to claims just a little bit.
- 0:29Speaker 2: We'll have our one opportunity to speak to Jack Arnett
- 0:31Speaker 2: and all the assistant coaches today, So it'll be a
- 0:34Speaker 2: busy day on campus but also a busy day of
- 0:38Speaker 2: Jean's page. But but yeah, I mean people kind of
- 0:42Speaker 2: starting to get pumped a little bit about this, you know,
- 0:44Speaker 2: and then you know, it's just like the month of
- 0:47Speaker 2: July is like the bed Songe for us, Like we
- 0:49Speaker 2: have to really grind to go find content, and there's
- 0:51Speaker 2: only so many times you can write about, you know,
- 0:53Speaker 2: five newcomers to watch and that sort of stuff. But yeah,
- 0:57Speaker 2: I mean, it's it's here now, you know. And so
- 0:59Speaker 2: we'll start practice here on Thursday and have an opportunity
- 1:02Speaker 2: to deserve some of that, and you know, we'll go
- 1:04Speaker 2: from there.
- 1:05Speaker 1: Okay, all right, So is this is this the first
- 1:08Speaker 1: time access to Zach Garnett since he was named defensive coordinator.
- 1:13Speaker 2: Yeah, and yeah, it's interesting too. You know, I'm not
- 1:16Speaker 2: to be able to be critical of anybody. I would
- 1:18Speaker 2: have made him available back in the spring, sure, just
- 1:21Speaker 2: to kind of get those initial questions out of the way, right.
- 1:24Speaker 2: I mean, it's like, you know, a one's like coming
- 1:25Speaker 2: back because we're going to spend the bulk of that today.
- 1:29Speaker 2: You know, you just know it's coming because it needs
- 1:32Speaker 2: to happen. You know, it's like you, no, why did
- 1:34Speaker 2: you come back? Why was this about opportunity when when
- 1:36Speaker 2: we could have handled that in the spring and then
- 1:38Speaker 2: then spend today's opportunity. That's kind of talking about, you know,
- 1:42Speaker 2: the defense and the fall and things like that.
- 1:44Speaker 1: So right, Okay, So I had an ole miss media
- 1:50Speaker 1: member on uh two weeks ago. I asked this question
- 1:54Speaker 1: for them, and that's actually a hell of a debate
- 1:56Speaker 1: on who their best player is on the defense side
- 1:59Speaker 1: of the football. So do you go Isaac Smith or
- 2:07Speaker 1: someone else? Kelly Jones? I mean, you need somebody up front.
- 2:12Speaker 1: Those guys are important, but who is the most talented
- 2:19Speaker 1: player on the defensive side of the football.
- 2:22Speaker 2: Well, if you want to say talent, I would say
- 2:24Speaker 2: Kelly Jones just because of the fact, you know, he's
- 2:26Speaker 2: projected to be a first rounder, and you know he's
- 2:29Speaker 2: a freak of an athlete and had a great year
- 2:31Speaker 2: last year. But I think Smith is probably the most
- 2:33Speaker 2: important guy because of his leadership and his own ability.
- 2:37Speaker 2: But I agree with you, you need somebody up front,
- 2:39Speaker 2: you know. I think the guy that could probably be
- 2:41Speaker 2: the biggest difference maker to this team is sil Mary Williams.
- 2:45Speaker 2: Transferring to Florida State. You know, he hadn't played a
- 2:48Speaker 2: ton of snaps, but he's a guy that was with
- 2:51Speaker 2: Arnette last year at Florida State. They know each other,
- 2:53Speaker 2: he understands what's expected of them, and so I think
- 2:56Speaker 2: he's a guy that's probably a little bit of a
- 2:58Speaker 2: dark course.
- 2:58Speaker 1: There is uh Isaac Smith. Could he play? I know
- 3:06Speaker 1: he's not the same player, but Zach likes Arnett likes
- 3:10Speaker 1: to move people around, and I like that, and guys
- 3:12Speaker 1: are athletic and twitchy and kind of like Perkins at old.
- 3:16Speaker 1: You know you can you can play him at all
- 3:17Speaker 1: three levels. Do you think he'll do that with Isaac Smith, Steve.
- 3:21Speaker 2: Yeah, I think it's some formats as will. I think
- 3:24Speaker 2: that's part of the deal with this defense is it's
- 3:27Speaker 2: so unpredictable, you know, and you can take a guy
- 3:30Speaker 2: it's a bit of between there that maybe doesn't have
- 3:32Speaker 2: the you know, the traditional measurements for certain positions, and
- 3:35Speaker 2: you can still find a place for them. And yeah,
- 3:38Speaker 2: Zach is one of those guys too, And just talking
- 3:40Speaker 2: to some of the guys in the off seas and
- 3:42Speaker 2: you know, guys come out a spy. You see him
- 3:44Speaker 2: at Walmart and things like that, and they're really excited
- 3:46Speaker 2: about this defense because defensive players that have a defensive
- 3:50Speaker 2: mentality they want to attack. And over the course of
- 3:53Speaker 2: the last year two years, States basically been like a
- 3:56Speaker 2: ven bit dumb break types of command of defense. That's
- 4:00Speaker 2: at it with Arnett, aren't It's gonna be blocking the
- 4:01Speaker 2: quarterback and pud gaim war much, you know, And so
- 4:04Speaker 2: that's what players want. Players want to be able to
- 4:07Speaker 2: pin their ears back and just go chase the football.
- 4:09Speaker 2: And so I think from that aspect of it, there
- 4:12Speaker 2: is some freedom within those players rather than this kind
- 4:16Speaker 2: of controlled aggression they're just gonna turn it loose, and
- 4:20Speaker 2: I think that in Mississippi State you have to be
- 4:22Speaker 2: a little bit different than Jack Arnett and his team
- 4:24Speaker 2: certainly are.
- 4:26Speaker 1: Okay Arnett, you know, I'm not going to hold him
- 4:32Speaker 1: to the three three five because he moves people around
- 4:35Speaker 1: so much. I know you'll see a lot of that.
- 4:40Speaker 2: You know.
- 4:40Speaker 1: What's going to be interesting, Steve is he spit a
- 4:48Speaker 1: year under Golding or was it two a year? Right?
- 4:52Speaker 1: And then and then Florida State and what he has
- 4:55Speaker 1: picked up that he likes and that he wants to
- 5:00Speaker 1: corporate where you may see some new wrinkles that are
- 5:05Speaker 1: in the same vein but a little bit different from
- 5:07Speaker 1: what you saw last in twenty twenty two? Is that fair.
- 5:10Speaker 2: Stee Yeah, everybody innovates, you know, and it's like Arnett
- 5:15Speaker 2: said many times, and you have some opponent specific fires, right,
- 5:18Speaker 2: I mean there are things you just kind of pick
- 5:20Speaker 2: up on tape and things that you see other teams
- 5:23Speaker 2: us that are successful against offenses that you're going to play.
- 5:26Speaker 2: And so, yeah, Zach is an intelligent guy. That's one
- 5:29Speaker 2: of the reasons that he was elevated to the head
- 5:31Speaker 2: coaching position in the first place. And granted it was
- 5:33Speaker 2: a job he wasn't quite ready for, but you know,
- 5:35Speaker 2: Mississippi State went to him and he answered the call,
- 5:37Speaker 2: which I think is one of the reasons is people
- 5:40Speaker 2: are so excited about bringing him back. But Zach's intelligent guy,
- 5:44Speaker 2: and he learns as he's done and kind of goes
- 5:47Speaker 2: along things, and so yeah, I think you pick up
- 5:49Speaker 2: things too. They pick up things there and you just
- 5:52Speaker 2: kind of move forward with it. But but yeah, I'm excited.
- 5:55Speaker 2: And let's be honest about this, right. You know, the
- 5:58Speaker 2: Mississippi State offense has been pretty good last year especially,
- 6:02Speaker 2: you know, and so let me show them that he
- 6:04Speaker 2: can score. Can Arnatt give him two extra possessions of
- 6:07Speaker 2: ball games? Right? And how significant you could could that be?
- 6:11Speaker 2: I think that's probably where the rubber meets the road
- 6:14Speaker 2: with this team. Its improvement is going to come on
- 6:17Speaker 2: the defensive side of the football. I think even if
- 6:20Speaker 2: the offense is exactly what it was last year, I
- 6:22Speaker 2: think that's enough to go win six for seven games.
- 6:25Speaker 2: The defensive effort's got to be different, and in turn,
- 6:28Speaker 2: the offense benefits from improvement on defense.
- 6:32Speaker 1: So don't you expect them to take a slight step
- 6:35Speaker 1: back in the passing game? With Camrio being a true sophomore,
- 6:39Speaker 1: but a big step forward knowing that Camrio is a
- 6:43Speaker 1: threat to get a first down at any time and
- 6:46Speaker 1: sometimes take it to the house running the football, which
- 6:49Speaker 1: will then make the offensive line better if they're not
- 6:52Speaker 1: worth a dam, and will make Fluff better.
- 6:55Speaker 2: See, yeah, I think all those things can be true.
- 6:59Speaker 2: I mean, because yeah, you've got you're gonna have a
- 7:00Speaker 2: first time start him. And yeah, he started two games
- 7:03Speaker 2: for you last year and did play rather extensively. But yeah,
- 7:06Speaker 2: as you saw that that first drive against Arkansas, he
- 7:08Speaker 2: steps up and throws just a dome, you know, to
- 7:11Speaker 2: Anthony Evans for a touchdown. Well the next drive, you know,
- 7:14Speaker 2: every ball was behind somebody, you know. But I think
- 7:17Speaker 2: a lot of that too, was just the excitement of
- 7:19Speaker 2: the moment. But yeah, there's gonna be some growing pains.
- 7:21Speaker 2: But I do think, as you kind of mentioned too
- 7:23Speaker 2: about it, because of his ability to be a threat
- 7:25Speaker 2: in the running game, that forces defenses to play guys
- 7:28Speaker 2: closer to the line of scrimmage, which should open up
- 7:31Speaker 2: some more passing windows in that intermediate passing game. Because
- 7:34Speaker 2: of Blake shape and listen to you, Blake is a
- 7:37Speaker 2: good athlete. But he wasn't a plus runner, so you
- 7:39Speaker 2: didn't have to respect that. And like when he ran
- 7:41Speaker 2: his own read, you knew he wasn't going to keep
- 7:43Speaker 2: it right. Camario may keep it go for a touchdown,
- 7:46Speaker 2: and so I think it puts the linebackers in conflict
- 7:50Speaker 2: and pulls them a little bit closer to the line
- 7:51Speaker 2: of scrimmage, and perhaps the safeties as well. And you've
- 7:54Speaker 2: got some speed on the outside you can make people
- 7:56Speaker 2: pay with and so I think Levy's going to be
- 7:58Speaker 2: able to pick its poison a little bit. But you're right,
- 8:02Speaker 2: Kamario's got to be on point when it comes to
- 8:04Speaker 2: the passenger.
- 8:05Speaker 1: Okay, Steve robertson Jean's Page dot com, they'll be uh.
- 8:10Speaker 1: They get to interview Arnette today among other coaches, and
- 8:14Speaker 1: so Arnett back in the fold after three years as
- 8:19Speaker 1: DC in one years the interim and and he's back.
- 8:22Speaker 1: That's a major upgrade. I mean, bugs Bunny would have
- 8:25Speaker 1: been over Coleman Hutzler, but Arnett has proven on Saturdays
- 8:30Speaker 1: that he can be good as a defensive coordinator in
- 8:35Speaker 1: the SEC. Let's go back to Anthony Evans. I'm intrigued.
- 8:41Speaker 1: I like him. I didn't you know. I mean last year,
- 8:45Speaker 1: Brendan Thompson overshadowed Anthony a little bit, although Evans had
- 8:49Speaker 1: a more than solid year. I like this kid's charisma
- 8:53Speaker 1: and leadership. I thought he was really really good down
- 8:58Speaker 1: at SEC media days. Have you had a chance to
- 9:01Speaker 1: be around him at all, Steve, Oh?
- 9:04Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean, and the things that I liked about
- 9:07Speaker 2: Aunt is the run after the catch, right. I mean,
- 9:09Speaker 2: you go back that Arkansas game. We were talking about that
- 9:12Speaker 2: that game went in touchdown. How many wide receivers in
- 9:15Speaker 2: Mississippi state history have you seen that could make that
- 9:18Speaker 2: catch out there, have the dexterity to stay in bounds
- 9:22Speaker 2: and then power through three tackles and then ultimately get
- 9:25Speaker 2: into the end zone to win a football game, right,
- 9:28Speaker 2: I mean, there is a winning quality with him. But
- 9:30Speaker 2: you're right in some respects, he was a little bit
- 9:32Speaker 2: overshadowed because you know, it's Brendan making the big catch
- 9:35Speaker 2: out on the flyout, right, and it kind of getting
- 9:38Speaker 2: outside the numbers and just out running people. You got
- 9:41Speaker 2: some kids that can still do that, But I think
- 9:44Speaker 2: Anthony Evans is a guy that could possibly challenge what
- 9:48Speaker 2: Brendan Thompson did last year from a statistical standpoint. I mean,
- 9:51Speaker 2: he had a ver eight hundred yard receiver himself last year,
- 9:54Speaker 2: and he had a couple of games where he kind
- 9:55Speaker 2: of disappeared, and well, this year he's got to go
- 9:58Speaker 2: be the guy and the next receiver to go get drafted.
- 10:02Speaker 2: But I love his approach to the game, and I
- 10:04Speaker 2: think Vernon Thompson getting drafted where he did actually helps
- 10:09Speaker 2: him too. It's because of the fact he's like, hey,
- 10:11Speaker 2: this is possible within this offense and at the school.
- 10:14Speaker 2: I just got to go work hard and make it
- 10:16Speaker 2: happen to myself.
- 10:17Speaker 1: Yeah, and you mentioned Kevin Coleman two years ago. I
- 10:21Speaker 1: know the season was a disaster at two and ten,
- 10:24Speaker 1: but he had a hell of a year and then
- 10:26Speaker 1: he transferred to Missouri and didn't have near as good
- 10:28Speaker 1: a year. So I do think that that says something.
- 10:32Speaker 1: Don't you agree?
- 10:33Speaker 2: Oh? I do. And it's like, you know, we talked
- 10:35Speaker 2: about multiple times, I don't expect Lovey to have any
- 10:39Speaker 2: problem getting wide receivers because in the beginning it was
- 10:41Speaker 2: just a promise. Well now he's got production. He's like, hey,
- 10:44Speaker 2: we took Kevin Coleman, who had done nothing in his
- 10:46Speaker 2: college career, made him an All SEC guy. We take
- 10:50Speaker 2: Vernon Thompson, who had done nothing in this college career,
- 10:53Speaker 2: made him the school leader in receiving yards and an
- 10:56Speaker 2: all set performance. And now both of us guys are
- 10:58Speaker 2: in the National Football League. And so before you're gonna say, hey,
- 11:02Speaker 2: here's what we want to do, now you can say
- 11:04Speaker 2: here's what we've done, and we can do the same
- 11:06Speaker 2: for you.
- 11:07Speaker 1: All right. Steve robertson talking, When does camp start.
- 11:13Speaker 2: Thursday?
- 11:14Speaker 1: Okay, so y'all talk to the How does it go today?
- 11:17Speaker 1: Are you allowed to talk to any of the ten
- 11:19Speaker 1: assistants under Levy?
- 11:22Speaker 2: Yeah, we're got to think it's eleven people that we're
- 11:24Speaker 2: going to see today, and so it's all going to
- 11:26Speaker 2: kind of be in ten twelve minute increments, you know,
- 11:29Speaker 2: you just kind of line them up there. And this
- 11:30Speaker 2: is the only time that we expect to talk to
- 11:32Speaker 2: him in camp. I mean, it's just kind of how
- 11:33Speaker 2: it's been here the Levey administration. But yeah, we'll get
- 11:37Speaker 2: a chance to every assistant coach. I don't know that
- 11:39Speaker 2: we're going to get the assistant assistant coaches, but we've
- 11:43Speaker 2: got a full list. But yeah, that'll be all the
- 11:45Speaker 2: on the field guys and the guys who go out recruiting,
- 11:47Speaker 2: and and yeah, it's a big day. I mean because
- 11:50Speaker 2: like you know, for a lot of us, you know,
- 11:52Speaker 2: we spell this time at the Rednecker of the area
- 11:54Speaker 2: and down by the river and things like that. Well, now,
- 11:56Speaker 2: all of a sudden, you know, it's a week of
- 11:58Speaker 2: football practice from the high school and the college level,
- 12:01Speaker 2: and so you know, in some respects we're already in football,
- 12:05Speaker 2: not even in Mississippi State doesn't play inn while sip
- 12:07Speaker 2: hits him to the bets. But you know you're gonna
- 12:09Speaker 2: have Jackson Prepp playing here in a couple of weeks,
- 12:11Speaker 2: and then the high schools open up next week, and
- 12:13Speaker 2: you know, it's it's here. It's time to get excited.
- 12:17Speaker 1: Steve Robertson on the Out of Bounds Show jeanspage dot
- 12:20Speaker 1: Com two four seven sports, he'll have all kinds of
- 12:23Speaker 1: content with Jeff Levy, Zach Arnett and Philip Montgomery and more. Well,
- 12:29Speaker 1: please do me a favor and ask Philip Montgomery, the
- 12:33Speaker 1: new offensive assistant, what his role is going to be
- 12:39Speaker 1: with Levy specifically.
- 12:40Speaker 2: Steve. Yeah, and that's a great question, you know, And
- 12:44Speaker 2: I think it's one of those things too, where you
- 12:46Speaker 2: know there's already a working relationship, right, I mean, he
- 12:50Speaker 2: would be overstepping, like I go back. He and I
- 12:52Speaker 2: both love Brew, right. Well, you remember year one with
- 12:55Speaker 2: Brew with Brew was here, Uh he runs up there
- 12:58Speaker 2: and calls the time out from the sidelines and then
- 13:01Speaker 2: Mallen loses it, right, I don't know if you remember
- 13:03Speaker 2: that game. It was great because you know him knowing Brew,
- 13:06Speaker 2: it makes it even funnier, you know, because you know
- 13:09Speaker 2: Brew being a former head coach. But you know, Brew
- 13:13Speaker 2: and Mellen didn't know each other, you know, MANI and
- 13:15Speaker 2: Levy do, and so everybody's going to respect the head coach.
- 13:19Speaker 2: But I do think Montgomery is the day didn't get
- 13:21Speaker 2: in the headset that the Jeff's don't listen to, you know,
- 13:24Speaker 2: because number one, they know each other, they've been in
- 13:26Speaker 2: the trenches together. But also to minie's been a head
- 13:29Speaker 2: coach before too. If you don't go out and hire
- 13:31Speaker 2: Phila Montgomery and put handcuffs on him, right, I mean,
- 13:34Speaker 2: you go hire that guy because he can help you
- 13:36Speaker 2: get better. But he brings value not just as a
- 13:38Speaker 2: coach for the players, but also it's a guy that
- 13:40Speaker 2: can be a valuable member of your staff.
- 13:43Speaker 1: Yeah, I want to know what he's doing, Like Jerry
- 13:49Speaker 1: Kill comes in at Vanderbilt and saves Clark Lee's job
- 13:56Speaker 1: along with bringing Diego Pavia, Tim back and sol So yeah,
- 14:01Speaker 1: I want to know what is Philip Montgomery's define role
- 14:06Speaker 1: specifically under Jeff Levy. That that's yeah, I mean what
- 14:11Speaker 1: what is he tasked to do weekly and then on
- 14:17Speaker 1: game day? That's what I want to know because Montgomery
- 14:20Speaker 1: and Arenett you know, could could extend along with Camaro
- 14:25Speaker 1: and others, but could extend his career.
- 14:30Speaker 2: Let's see you down too. I mean, Kevin Johnson, you
- 14:34Speaker 2: look at what like that's to me, that's one of
- 14:35Speaker 2: the most significant editions of the off season. You know,
- 14:39Speaker 2: to go get a guy that is it's then at
- 14:41Speaker 2: touch a high level as an offensive coach and a
- 14:43Speaker 2: quarterback coach. And you know, you know, Levy is a
- 14:46Speaker 2: great quarterback coach in his own right right, but when
- 14:48Speaker 2: you when you have a chance to bring in that
- 14:51Speaker 2: wealth of experience from the powerful level, it absolutely makes
- 14:55Speaker 2: you better. You know, and listen, no disrespect to that
- 14:58Speaker 2: hole check, but you know it's like you go back
- 15:00Speaker 2: in hindsight, you know it's if you're bringing a guy
- 15:02Speaker 2: onto the field for the very first time in the
- 15:05Speaker 2: Southeastern Conference, you know, and so I know he's your guy.
- 15:08Speaker 2: I know we understand your playbook and your lexicon. But
- 15:12Speaker 2: this is a tremendous upgrade for Mississippi State to get
- 15:15Speaker 2: Kevin Johnson.
- 15:16Speaker 1: Okay, all right, Steve Robertson on the out of boundship
- 15:19Speaker 1: and the Farm Bureau Insurance guest line. Matt Brock will
- 15:24Speaker 1: be available to He is basically Arnett's right hand man,
- 15:31Speaker 1: and he'll coach linebackers.
- 15:33Speaker 2: Steve. Yeah, it's too funny too, like those two have
- 15:37Speaker 2: kind of become as stick as Steves. And you know
- 15:40Speaker 2: they were both on the first lead staff, but they
- 15:42Speaker 2: didn't know each other before then. It's not like Arnett
- 15:44Speaker 2: showed out from Washington State with the rest of that crew.
- 15:47Speaker 2: You know, leech ball is their way. Guys where him
- 15:49Speaker 2: and some of the defensive guys. But you know, those
- 15:52Speaker 2: guys just see defense the same way. And Matt Brock
- 15:57Speaker 2: is just as fiery as Zach Garnett is. He's just
- 16:00Speaker 2: not as demonstrative, Like you're not going to see Matt
- 16:02Speaker 2: Brock out there. You know, pa'l drops somebody on the
- 16:05Speaker 2: sidelines after a sack. You know, he's just seems a
- 16:07Speaker 2: little different. But that guy's so intense and I have
- 16:11Speaker 2: a chance to talk to him a couple of times
- 16:13Speaker 2: over the course of the summer. You know, you get
- 16:14Speaker 2: prospect camps and stuff, and he is so jack to
- 16:17Speaker 2: be back. And then he brings Jed Johnson back with him,
- 16:20Speaker 2: right because the Jets up at Yukon with him working
- 16:23Speaker 2: at a GA. And so you've got Arnett the architect
- 16:26Speaker 2: of the defense. You've got Matt Brock as the first lieutenant,
- 16:29Speaker 2: and then you brought Jeed Johnson back, who's played in
- 16:31Speaker 2: this scheme, who has credibility in the room because he's
- 16:35Speaker 2: also worn the uniform. And so I think you'll see
- 16:38Speaker 2: that entire side of the football get better. But that
- 16:41Speaker 2: linebacker room with Errol Thompson at Jed Johnson and Matt
- 16:45Speaker 2: Brock and Zach Arnett back that line, that very talented
- 16:48Speaker 2: young linebacker room should be one of the strength to
- 16:51Speaker 2: this team. All right.
- 16:53Speaker 1: So Jet Johnson and Errol Thompson, former Mississippi State linebackers,
- 16:59Speaker 1: will be assisting on the defense and obviously will help
- 17:02Speaker 1: Matt Rock at the linebacker position, who's the backup quarterback.
- 17:08Speaker 2: Steve. Yeah, that that's probably one of the bigger questions.
- 17:13Speaker 2: And I don't know. I hope it doesn't matter, right,
- 17:15Speaker 2: But I think it's between A. J. Swan and Jayden Rashada,
- 17:18Speaker 2: of course, and those are two guys that have done it.
- 17:21Speaker 2: You know. AJ Swan was a starter at app State,
- 17:23Speaker 2: got a little bit banged up, but you know, he's
- 17:25Speaker 2: done it. It was at Vanderbilt for a while, and
- 17:28Speaker 2: you know, Rashata was the guy. Obviously, he's one of
- 17:30Speaker 2: the highest recruited quarterbacks in the country here a couple
- 17:32Speaker 2: of years ago and really at the infancy of the
- 17:34Speaker 2: nil Era, right, that was the big thing. If I
- 17:37Speaker 2: didn't go into Florida with that big deal that ultimately
- 17:39Speaker 2: he had trouble collecting on them, but eventually went to
- 17:42Speaker 2: court and they had an out of court settlement and
- 17:44Speaker 2: then he transfers around, goes to Bacamento State. And so
- 17:48Speaker 2: this is a young man that has a lot of ability,
- 17:51Speaker 2: but so far it hadn't hadn't realized his full potential,
- 17:55Speaker 2: and so you know, he could be your number two.
- 17:57Speaker 2: But I think, you know, as you get deeper in
- 18:00Speaker 2: ball games, especially the non conference, you know, if you're
- 18:02Speaker 2: winning whatever, let those guys get some reps, some real
- 18:05Speaker 2: game reps. But yeah, I think those two are the
- 18:08Speaker 2: ones that the battle was staying out. And of course
- 18:09Speaker 2: you got some younger guys too, b I bring him
- 18:11Speaker 2: a quarter but yeah, their time will come. But yeah,
- 18:15Speaker 2: as far as you immediate this year, I think you're
- 18:17Speaker 2: back at quarterback battle by battles down to Swan and Shata.
- 18:22Speaker 1: Steve, we have a listener on the Dancing Rabbit golf
- 18:25Speaker 1: text line Aiden Williams. What what are the what are
- 18:30Speaker 1: the expectations there?
- 18:33Speaker 2: Well, he's finally healthy, right, and that's so huge, right,
- 18:36Speaker 2: And if you go back.
- 18:37Speaker 1: And lit wide receiver for our listeners who's from Rigeland,
- 18:39Speaker 1: Go ahead, Steve, Sorry.
- 18:41Speaker 2: You go. You go to you know, the Egg Bowl,
- 18:43Speaker 2: and you go through even the Bowl game and you
- 18:45Speaker 2: finally saw Aiden probably around ninety ninety five. He had
- 18:49Speaker 2: some elements throughout the year, but yeah, he's gonna be
- 18:52Speaker 2: a big part of things. I think the very first
- 18:54Speaker 2: time the offense takes the field, he's on. He's lined
- 18:57Speaker 2: up out there out wide, you know, and so yeah,
- 19:00Speaker 2: we need him to have the you know, the year
- 19:03Speaker 2: he's always wanted to have but he made some big plays,
- 19:06Speaker 2: got in stretch and again he had he had a
- 19:07Speaker 2: good spring and uh again one hundred percent healthy. And
- 19:11Speaker 2: you know, as well as I do, the best ability
- 19:13Speaker 2: in anything, it's availability, and that was the thing last year.
- 19:17Speaker 2: There was some times he was just a little bit
- 19:18Speaker 2: too banged up. He couldn't go. But again we're expecting
- 19:22Speaker 2: the big things from him, and you know he can
- 19:24Speaker 2: be a solid number two or even three. This Reagan's
- 19:27Speaker 2: kid is so intriguing to me. You transferred intom Oklahoma,
- 19:30Speaker 2: who was in Oklahoma with Bernond Thompson for a while
- 19:34Speaker 2: and obviously knows Jeff Levy. It's so interesting to hear
- 19:38Speaker 2: people talk about him because you look at the numbers,
- 19:40Speaker 2: is it's nothing that wows you. But that was the
- 19:42Speaker 2: case for Vernon Thompson and Anthony Adams too, and people
- 19:45Speaker 2: like this kid. It's going to be a difference maker.
- 19:47Speaker 2: And nobody's been talking about him. Nobody's talking about this
- 19:50Speaker 2: Reagan's kid. He's a little bit undersized, but you know,
- 19:53Speaker 2: it's like they used to say in the old days,
- 19:55Speaker 2: you know, as fast as a water bug. I mean,
- 19:57Speaker 2: you put him out there in space, He's gonna make
- 19:59Speaker 2: people Miss. Then he's going to win the foot race
- 20:01Speaker 2: of the end zone. And I think that's a guy
- 20:03Speaker 2: that's been that nobody's talking about. In a couple of
- 20:05Speaker 2: weeks into this thing, people are going to be like,
- 20:07Speaker 2: I kind of like this kid, you know, because I
- 20:09Speaker 2: think he has some big playability.
- 20:11Speaker 1: Okay, so Zion Reagan's is that right?
- 20:17Speaker 2: That's right? Okay?
- 20:19Speaker 1: Five seven? But like you said, evidently can fly. He
- 20:27Speaker 1: had a personal best ten to three seven in one
- 20:29Speaker 1: hundred meter. I think that's probably pretty good, Steve.
- 20:34Speaker 2: So yeah, I think even I think Kevin France would
- 20:36Speaker 2: be impressed by that, right, right when you look at
- 20:40Speaker 2: a similar skill set. Right. But again, that's the thing.
- 20:44Speaker 2: You know, Jeff Lady, throughout his career, he's got production
- 20:48Speaker 2: out of the widers in your position, and I think,
- 20:50Speaker 2: you know, last year is probably the most talented group
- 20:53Speaker 2: he's had since he left Old Miss. And then all
- 20:55Speaker 2: of a sudden you get to this year and you
- 20:56Speaker 2: feel like it this RUMs a little bit deeper. Now,
- 20:59Speaker 2: will there be a productive of its last year? That
- 21:01Speaker 2: remains to be seen, But the evidence which suggests probably shows.
