- 0:02Speaker 1: This is an Unspoiled Network podcast. This is spoil Me,
- 0:08Speaker 1: covering one piece episodes seven thirty three through seven thirty five,
- 0:14Speaker 1: Attack on a Celestial Loofy's King Kong Gun, of Anger
- 0:21Speaker 1: to be Free, Dress, Rosa's delight, and the unheard of
- 0:25Speaker 1: Admiral Fujitura's surprising decision in these episodes. I am going
- 0:34Speaker 1: to try not to be too undertime this episode, but
- 0:42Speaker 1: you would really think in the series of episodes where
- 0:46Speaker 1: do Flamingo is finally defeated, I'd have more to talk about,
- 0:50Speaker 1: and I don't think I'm gonna have that much to
- 0:52Speaker 1: talk about. Welcome to spoil Me, Welcome to the show everyone.
- 1:16Speaker 1: I am Natasha. Thank you very much to Michael for
- 1:19Speaker 1: commissioning this episode. What's up, Michael? So, I was looking
- 1:25Speaker 1: at the chart that Florian gave me and he had
- 1:30Speaker 1: to adjust because I decided to watch four episodes for
- 1:33Speaker 1: the previous recording. And then I saw that, like the
- 1:36Speaker 1: episode after this or after the next one it's coming
- 1:41Speaker 1: up shortly is a wanna be episode, And it suddenly
- 1:48Speaker 1: it suddenly struck me that it probably Florian was in
- 1:55Speaker 1: a difficult place because I could likely have watched four
- 2:00Speaker 1: episodes for this recording again, but then it would throw
- 2:04Speaker 1: everything all out a whack in terms of the episodes
- 2:07Speaker 1: that he had actually wanted to talk about for the Wannabe.
- 2:11Speaker 1: But so I'm just I'm sort of like making assumptions
- 2:16Speaker 1: here about what Florian might have wanted to do, but
- 2:19Speaker 1: this is just me guessing. The reason that I say
- 2:26Speaker 1: there's not that much to talk about is because almost
- 2:31Speaker 1: a full episode is simply us panning to different characters
- 2:39Speaker 1: and then remembering things that happened that you know, we've
- 2:44Speaker 1: seen like a million times by now. So I just
- 2:48Speaker 1: don't really feel like I'm going to give a shit
- 2:50Speaker 1: enough to talk about their individual memories because we've been
- 2:55Speaker 1: over it, and you know, in terms of drawing things out,
- 3:02Speaker 1: I think the last episodes were pretty bad, but this
- 3:06Speaker 1: one felt These three felt worse to me, And because
- 3:13Speaker 1: the reason I say that is because I barely like
- 3:19Speaker 1: felt Loofy finally defeating Do Flamingo. What I mean by
- 3:25Speaker 1: that is we have seen the big, bad, final punch
- 3:32Speaker 1: that has seemed to take Do Flamingo down like a
- 3:36Speaker 1: few times, and I honestly, other than the reaction of
- 3:43Speaker 1: the other people who are watching this fight, I think
- 3:47Speaker 1: that we are finally running into a problem where if
- 3:53Speaker 1: you have these big moments enough, then the effect just
- 3:59Speaker 1: goes away. So I straight up didn't interpret this last
- 4:06Speaker 1: punch as actually the winning punch, even though Lufy has
- 4:10Speaker 1: promised he'll do it in one punch, even though there's
- 4:12Speaker 1: a whole thing about him remembering this big, bad punch,
- 4:16Speaker 1: it doesn't matter because we have seen a lot of
- 4:20Speaker 1: moments like this and then the bad guy just gets
- 4:23Speaker 1: back up, And so I barely registered that that, like,
- 4:35Speaker 1: this was supposed to be the big moment, and it
- 4:39Speaker 1: was not until later on when we have got what's
- 4:42Speaker 1: his face doing the announcement and barely being able to
- 4:45Speaker 1: get through telling who is the winner of the tournament
- 4:49Speaker 1: that I was like, oh, I guess this really is
- 4:54Speaker 1: the end of it. And then and so yes, Florian
- 5:01Speaker 1: is saying I believed it when the bird cage went down.
- 5:04Speaker 1: That's that's really the main thing that I think it.
- 5:11Speaker 1: But here's the problem. They do that too with this show.
- 5:19Speaker 1: They will have a big thing and then it turns
- 5:21Speaker 1: out so even the bird cage going down, even that
- 5:26Speaker 1: I had a moment of like, it's gonna seem like
- 5:31Speaker 1: he's down it's gonna seem like this is over and
- 5:35Speaker 1: he's gonna get up again, Like, yeah, the bird cage
- 5:39Speaker 1: went down because he lost control of his powers, but
- 5:42Speaker 1: it's still going to be that this guy is somebody
- 5:45Speaker 1: that we need. Like I even then, there was a
- 5:50Speaker 1: reservation in my mind. And this is just a natural
- 5:56Speaker 1: side effect of drawing things out as much as they
- 5:59Speaker 1: have for this show, is that when the big thing
- 6:01Speaker 1: finally does happen, I don't really believe it. So once
- 6:05Speaker 1: we eventually have everybody like having their memories and thinking
- 6:09Speaker 1: back and all of this, after the announcement of who
- 6:12Speaker 1: is the winner, I finally was willing to just be like, Okay,
- 6:17Speaker 1: I guess that's it, because it's like a full episode
- 6:21Speaker 1: almost of us barely even looking at do Flamenco. But
- 6:27Speaker 1: I just am truly, guys, I'm gonna be honest, I'm
- 6:31Speaker 1: disappointed because I wanted the end of this fight. I
- 6:36Speaker 1: was really like feeling this arc, and I still will
- 6:41Speaker 1: defend this arc overall, but the way this last fight
- 6:46Speaker 1: goes down is so incredibly repetitive and drawn out, and
- 6:56Speaker 1: the end of the fight with this final punch is
- 6:59Speaker 1: not exciting to me. It's a big punch. Really, that's it.
- 7:06Speaker 1: It's just so uncreative, do you know what I'm saying?
- 7:09Speaker 1: Like I wanted there to be some other factor that
- 7:15Speaker 1: played in here that was like a bit more interesting,
- 7:20Speaker 1: and I know that it's supposed to be Lufy's new
- 7:23Speaker 1: punch is the interesting thing. It's not. I am so sorry, guys,
- 7:29Speaker 1: but it's not fourth gear bounce man. Okay, you had
- 7:34Speaker 1: my attention. This is interesting, and granted this is like
- 7:37Speaker 1: a sort of play on that, right, but I think
- 7:43Speaker 1: that ultimately, after people just decking each other like repeatedly
- 7:51Speaker 1: for at this point thirty episodes in a row, I
- 7:58Speaker 1: really thought, once we had Yea, the final moment with
- 8:01Speaker 1: Do Flamingo, it was gonna be something a little bit
- 8:08Speaker 1: more interesting than that. So, you know, it's it's the
- 8:14Speaker 1: kind of thing that I really don't think I would
- 8:18Speaker 1: have had this problem with it. If this had been
- 8:22Speaker 1: twenty episodes shorter. I think that I would have been fine.
- 8:27Speaker 1: This would have worked. But it's just the side effect
- 8:30Speaker 1: of it being so drawn out that now my expectations
- 8:35Speaker 1: are raised because I feel like, oh, we must really
- 8:38Speaker 1: be building towards something, and I can't. I know, in
- 8:42Speaker 1: my intellectual part of my mind that this filler thing
- 8:46Speaker 1: that they're doing and drawing things out is just a
- 8:50Speaker 1: tactic to stay with the manga, that it really has
- 8:53Speaker 1: nothing to do with the actual content, that this is
- 8:56Speaker 1: not a storytelling choice. It is a like marketing thing, honestly.
- 9:04Speaker 1: But I still can't help as a person who analyzes
- 9:10Speaker 1: stories for a living, I still can't help putting down
- 9:15Speaker 1: that as an Oh, we're building towards something, even if
- 9:20Speaker 1: I know now we're very likely not. We're just building
- 9:25Speaker 1: towards the ending, and the ending is going to be
- 9:28Speaker 1: the ending that it would have been had this taken
- 9:30Speaker 1: less than half the amount of time. But we just
- 9:33Speaker 1: needed a bunch of stuff in the middle there. It's
- 9:35Speaker 1: just very, very difficult for me to keep that in
- 9:39Speaker 1: mind in a in a way that keeps my expectations
- 9:47Speaker 1: from going in a different direction despite it all, Do
- 9:49Speaker 1: you know what I'm saying? So let's see, Saraphim says,
- 9:55Speaker 1: it's loofy. If punching it doesn't make it go down,
- 9:58Speaker 1: punch it harder is entirem o and it's boring after
- 10:02Speaker 1: a while. Like, you're not wrong, Sarah him, But I
- 10:07Speaker 1: am not wrong either. It's boring after a while. I'm
- 10:10Speaker 1: sure I'm not the only one who felt this, Florian.
- 10:13Speaker 1: In real life, we spent like two years on Dress Rosa,
- 10:16Speaker 1: and the flashbacks did work on me back then, but
- 10:18Speaker 1: not on a rewatch. That's an interesting point, Florian, is
- 10:21Speaker 1: the flashbacks make a lot more sense in that context,
- 10:25Speaker 1: and probably I could see having those moments of just
- 10:29Speaker 1: like oh my God for me, you know, I just
- 10:32Speaker 1: saw all this stuff happen not that long ago, and
- 10:35Speaker 1: it's just sort of feeling like filler to me. But
- 10:39Speaker 1: with that amount of time having passed, I can't imagine
- 10:42Speaker 1: two years on Dress Rosa. Though, Guys, I really loved
- 10:46Speaker 1: the whole beginning of this, but at this point it
- 10:48Speaker 1: feels like we have spent the equivalent of like forty
- 10:52Speaker 1: weeks of the show on just this fight with Do
- 10:57Speaker 1: Flamingo and not worth it, friends, not worth it. It's
- 11:05Speaker 1: if I were going to be recommending this arc, I
- 11:09Speaker 1: would have people basically get right up to the point
- 11:12Speaker 1: with like send your pinks backstory, and then I would
- 11:19Speaker 1: drop in the episode about trouble and then have them
- 11:22Speaker 1: jump to like the last two episodes of the fight.
- 11:27Speaker 1: And I just think, like, it's a shame, and I
- 11:34Speaker 1: wish that they would let go of pacing with the
- 11:40Speaker 1: manga and just do departures from the main story a
- 11:45Speaker 1: little bit more. I know that, you know, you guys
- 11:47Speaker 1: don't have me watch the filler episodes, which I can
- 11:49Speaker 1: understand because you're paying for each recording, So I get
- 11:53Speaker 1: not wanting to pay for parts of the story that
- 11:55Speaker 1: aren't relevant to the main plot. And I'm not faulting
- 11:58Speaker 1: you guys for that at all, but as a person
- 12:02Speaker 1: that's like trying to think how I would restructure this.
- 12:08Speaker 1: I have enjoyed some of the filler episodes that I've
- 12:10Speaker 1: watched on my own time quite a lot, and I
- 12:14Speaker 1: wish that they would step out of a thing and
- 12:19Speaker 1: do that a little bit more if this is the alternative,
- 12:25Speaker 1: because I just think that they kind of ruined their
- 12:28Speaker 1: own big moment by doing it this way. And you know,
- 12:35Speaker 1: I'm not again, I'm not saying that this is not
- 12:37Speaker 1: within character for Loofy. I am not saying that the
- 12:42Speaker 1: fourth year that his tactics like and techniques aren't interesting.
- 12:48Speaker 1: I'm saying that when we have spent all of this
- 12:51Speaker 1: time building up to how is Loofy going to beat him?
- 12:55Speaker 1: It just is a letdown because it feels like we're
- 12:58Speaker 1: just doing more of the same thing. And I had
- 13:02Speaker 1: been giving this arc a lot of credit initially, as
- 13:09Speaker 1: there was a variety in the way that people were fighting,
- 13:13Speaker 1: as opposed to the Fishman Island arc, where eventually when
- 13:17Speaker 1: Lufy fights the big bad he, they're just like trading
- 13:21Speaker 1: punches forever floating in mid air. So it looks like
- 13:24Speaker 1: even though we know they're underwater, and it's really really
- 13:28Speaker 1: boring looking, and it just feels like similarly repetitive. The
- 13:33Speaker 1: one thing that had going for over this is that
- 13:36Speaker 1: it was shorter, and unfortunately we get to a point
- 13:41Speaker 1: with this that even though there's more of a variety
- 13:44Speaker 1: in location and stuff, it only can take that so
- 13:47Speaker 1: far and help so much. So Sarahram says, I'd love
- 13:53Speaker 1: that even in the flashback really criticizes Lufy that he
- 13:56Speaker 1: needs a plan for if punch it hard doesn't work,
- 13:58Speaker 1: and his solution is punch it hard, and hey, it works.
- 14:02Speaker 1: And then Seraphim says, as bad as patting is, filler
- 14:05Speaker 1: is the bane of animes, especially ones that want to
- 14:07Speaker 1: keep steady viewership week to week shudders. In Naruto, the
- 14:12Speaker 1: thing is I cannot imagine that there's not a way
- 14:17Speaker 1: to make piller that still is part of the story.
- 14:22Speaker 1: I just cannot imagine that that's not possible. There are
- 14:27Speaker 1: so many things that I cover and watch that are
- 14:30Speaker 1: able to bring in side stories and still make you
- 14:35Speaker 1: care about them. I just don't like, you know, I
- 14:40Speaker 1: was talking in a couple episodes ago about these people
- 14:44Speaker 1: in the streets that we see struggling, the old lady
- 14:47Speaker 1: left behind by her granddaughter, and the woman with her
- 14:50Speaker 1: son who disappears, and the man with the broken leg,
- 14:53Speaker 1: and you know, all of these things, and how much
- 14:57Speaker 1: more invested we could potentially be, and there's bill there
- 15:01Speaker 1: are ways to accomplish that. So just like completely saying
- 15:08Speaker 1: we can't do filler, I just don't buy it. I
- 15:11Speaker 1: think that's like profoundly uncreative. And obviously the patting isn't working,
- 15:20Speaker 1: Like it's clearly a tradition, it's clearly we could say
- 15:24Speaker 1: it's working because people are still watching the show, But
- 15:27Speaker 1: if you are looking at this from any standpoint of
- 15:29Speaker 1: actual quality, you cannot say it's working. It just ruins things.
- 15:35Speaker 1: So I don't see that like departing a little bit
- 15:40Speaker 1: to a side story with somebody who's still in the mix.
- 15:47Speaker 1: Maybe every episode we get ten minutes with that person
- 15:53Speaker 1: or two different people. How much could that add to
- 15:57Speaker 1: the overall investment in what happens to the city. But
- 16:02Speaker 1: you're not actually taking time away from the main plot.
- 16:06Speaker 1: You're just enriching the overall experience of dress Rosa as
- 16:12Speaker 1: a real place with actual people in it. And you know, guys,
- 16:18Speaker 1: especially because so many of the moments with the townspeople
- 16:22Speaker 1: of dress Rosa, the townspeople are being trash, like I
- 16:28Speaker 1: want to care about them more than I do, but
- 16:30Speaker 1: they just keep being every man for himself until they're
- 16:34Speaker 1: given a big speech. I want to see them working together.
- 16:39Speaker 1: I want to see them beginning to put the pieces
- 16:42Speaker 1: together on what maybe really happened, like on a real level.
- 16:46Speaker 1: I want to see folks striving and trying to help
- 16:50Speaker 1: each other without meeting an intervention from Gats or from
- 16:56Speaker 1: King Riku or somebody announcing to all of them how
- 17:00Speaker 1: they need to keep hoping. What if that didn't always
- 17:04Speaker 1: come from above as a big set piece inspirational monologue,
- 17:11Speaker 1: but instead was something born out of the actual characters
- 17:15Speaker 1: beginning to like pull through. Then not only would it
- 17:20Speaker 1: feel less like everybody here is garbage, but I would
- 17:23Speaker 1: also be rooting for them more even than I have been.
- 17:29Speaker 1: And yeah, so it's it's I don't know. I don't know, guys.
- 17:35Speaker 1: I just feel sad that like we finally get here
- 17:39Speaker 1: and I felt so little because I didn't expect it
- 17:44Speaker 1: to like fall so flat for me. I'm surprised by it.
- 17:50Speaker 1: The aftermath worked more for me, I'll say that. But
- 17:57Speaker 1: I think that, like just I think I just had
- 17:59Speaker 1: to doubt so much that you know what I'm saying.
- 18:07Speaker 1: Let's see, there's a bunch of comments. Saraphim says they
- 18:11Speaker 1: actually could. The cover stories aren't canon but not animated,
- 18:13Speaker 1: despite actually playing into later events, but the execs don't
- 18:16Speaker 1: let them because no one wants to watch things that
- 18:19Speaker 1: don't have Loofy in it. Oh, that is so foolish.
- 18:26Speaker 1: It's just so fucking stupid, Like I believe you, just
- 18:31Speaker 1: to be clear, because unfortunately executives making decisions about how
- 18:37Speaker 1: creative works should be like written. That is the new
- 18:43Speaker 1: ruination of media, in my opinion, the idea that nobody
- 18:50Speaker 1: wants to watch anything that doesn't have Loofy in it. Too.
- 18:52Speaker 1: It's like a lot of the story doesn't have Loofy
- 18:56Speaker 1: in it. I will remind you guys, there's huge as
- 19:00Speaker 1: of every arc where Loofy is sidelined entirely or else
- 19:06Speaker 1: he would just beat up the bad guy and then
- 19:07Speaker 1: it would be over. So that is a self defeating argument.
- 19:14Speaker 1: You could have the straw hats be in those side
- 19:19Speaker 1: stories so instead of it always being I'm fighting a guy.
- 19:25Speaker 1: What if they got like emotionally wrapped up with a
- 19:30Speaker 1: character that they met that was helping them. What if
- 19:34Speaker 1: Usop wasn't just sitting on a rooftop being scared. There's
- 19:42Speaker 1: a fucking idea. What if Oosop wasn't totally wasted. Brah
- 19:48Speaker 1: has all of these abilities that we have worked so
- 19:50Speaker 1: hard on getting outlined, improving, bringing him to a point
- 19:56Speaker 1: where he is a power player on the crew, and
- 19:59Speaker 1: then what are we fucking do with him? In this arc?
- 20:03Speaker 1: We have him betray the Tantata and run away to
- 20:07Speaker 1: save his own skin and then sit around and fucking
- 20:11Speaker 1: cry about it, and that's all we fucking get. There's
- 20:14Speaker 1: like two moments where he does anything worthwhile, and otherwise
- 20:18Speaker 1: he is absolutely fucking useless. And how about we have
- 20:25Speaker 1: more of a thing going on with him and some
- 20:29Speaker 1: of the tantata, or we could have him get involved
- 20:32Speaker 1: with somebody on the ground and use his abilities in
- 20:37Speaker 1: some way that contributes toward the battle, toward like anything.
- 20:43Speaker 1: You know, I think people would watch that because people
- 20:48Speaker 1: like the side characters as well as Loofy. The idea
- 20:52Speaker 1: that that's like a factor, it's idiotic because it's just
- 20:56Speaker 1: like completely ignoring how eighty percent of these arcs usually work.
- 21:03Speaker 1: Sarahim says, this is just how classic anime worked. Now
- 21:06Speaker 1: they've gotten smart and gone for a seasonal model that
- 21:09Speaker 1: lets them have good pacing and not risk overtaking the manga,
- 21:12Speaker 1: but one piece has been grandfathered in for so long
- 21:15Speaker 1: as one of the last of that era still airing.
- 21:17Speaker 1: Though given the latest developments, they finally got it through
- 21:20Speaker 1: their heads to just take a break now and then
- 21:22Speaker 1: that's good. And like, like I said, guys, I still
- 21:26Speaker 1: really liked this arc. I am like mentally taking Lufi
- 21:31Speaker 1: and do Flamingo's fight, and I'm separating it from the
- 21:33Speaker 1: overall arc as like what I'm picturing is like the
- 21:38Speaker 1: overall arc is the shape of a sperm and the
- 21:43Speaker 1: big front end part that I really enjoyed is the
- 21:45Speaker 1: big round part, and then Lufy and do Flamingo's fight
- 21:48Speaker 1: is the little wavy tail at the end that I'm like, technically, yes,
- 21:52Speaker 1: it's still part of it, but to me, it doesn't
- 21:53Speaker 1: really it's nothing, you know what I'm saying. So all
- 21:58Speaker 1: this to say, it's very funny because I feel like
- 22:02Speaker 1: this is the fourth or fifth time this has happened,
- 22:04Speaker 1: where you guys have told me a lot of people
- 22:07Speaker 1: don't really like this arc, and I'm in the beginning
- 22:10Speaker 1: stages of it and I'm like, really, this is awesome, though,
- 22:12Speaker 1: and then about halfway through, I'm like, well, I guess
- 22:15Speaker 1: I could see if you had a problem with this
- 22:16Speaker 1: and that, but like, I'm still really liking it. And
- 22:19Speaker 1: then once you get three quarters of the way, I
- 22:21Speaker 1: start to be like oh, and then you get four
- 22:24Speaker 1: fifths of the way and then I'm like yeah, and
- 22:27Speaker 1: then after that I'm just like fuck this. And that
- 22:30Speaker 1: seems to just be the rhythm that I'm in every time,
- 22:34Speaker 1: so I'm almost wondering, and Florian, you are the one
- 22:38Speaker 1: that's sort of like you're in charge of breaking down
- 22:46Speaker 1: how much I should watch every episode of the podcast
- 22:52Speaker 1: if this is something later that is going to come
- 22:55Speaker 1: up again. Maybe what we should do is have the
- 23:00Speaker 1: beginning stages of the arc be two or three episodes,
- 23:06Speaker 1: and then break into four and five episodes for a
- 23:09Speaker 1: later stage when you know, he just fights this one
- 23:12Speaker 1: guy for like forty episodes in a row. Then maybe
- 23:17Speaker 1: we break it down into bigger sections so that this
- 23:19Speaker 1: doesn't feel so interminable, because I think maybe I would
- 23:25Speaker 1: if I had gone through all of this overall a
- 23:29Speaker 1: little bit faster, maybe I wouldn't be as irritated as
- 23:33Speaker 1: I am. But I can't help it, guys, I really am.
- 23:37Speaker 1: I'm annoyed because every time I like have this moment
- 23:42Speaker 1: with this show, I just feel like there's this squandered potential.
- 23:47Speaker 1: But it's like Florian is saying, I think we can
- 23:49Speaker 1: do that, and like, again, I defer to your judgment, Florian,
- 23:53Speaker 1: So I'm not saying that we have to do it
- 23:54Speaker 1: that way. I'm just thinking that it's a thought going
- 23:58Speaker 1: forward that maybe because you know, I don't want to
- 24:05Speaker 1: ruin the experience of listening to me covering the show
- 24:09Speaker 1: by me just being pissed off for like the last
- 24:12Speaker 1: six episodes of coverage. But I don't I'm trying to
- 24:18Speaker 1: find a way around that without just, you know, like
- 24:23Speaker 1: making everybody miserable. Seraphim says, again, the only major issue
- 24:29Speaker 1: people have is the pacing, especially in the anime. I mean,
- 24:34Speaker 1: that's what I'm saying. I don't get, Seraphim. I'm sorry.
- 24:38Speaker 1: I feel like you're saying something in like as a rebuttal,
- 24:45Speaker 1: but that's what I'm saying. My issue is is the pacing.
- 24:50Speaker 1: So I don't I don't know, maybe I'm misinterpreting what
- 24:54Speaker 1: it is that you're saying, and I just I don't know.
- 24:59Speaker 1: I just think there are so many ways that we
- 25:01Speaker 1: could fix it. Well, there's so many ways we could
- 25:05Speaker 1: fix it. This is one of those. I am not
- 25:08Speaker 1: normally a huge fan of fan fiction, and it's not
- 25:13Speaker 1: even because I think, like, you know, it's not legit
- 25:17Speaker 1: writing or anything. It's just always more that to me
- 25:20Speaker 1: when I read fanfic, it's almost always off, like the
- 25:25Speaker 1: people writing it don't really get the characters as well
- 25:27Speaker 1: as they think they do, or there's just a sort
- 25:30Speaker 1: of like weird vibe to it that I'm like, Nah,
- 25:33Speaker 1: this isn't it at all. But this series is one
- 25:37Speaker 1: where I could see myself getting very into doing fanfic
- 25:42Speaker 1: because I there have been so many moments where I
- 25:46Speaker 1: have just been like, but that that there, that was
- 25:49Speaker 1: very interesting, and then we just never go back and
- 25:52Speaker 1: talk about that again, like why wouldn't we? So anyway,
- 25:58Speaker 1: I just I'm sorry, like frontload this as a bummer
- 26:04Speaker 1: because there were parts of these three episodes that I
- 26:07Speaker 1: really liked, but I wanted to talk about do Flamingo
- 26:11Speaker 1: finally being defeated first, because it's clearly just what I
- 26:14Speaker 1: have been waiting for this whole time. And you know,
- 26:20Speaker 1: maybe another part of things, guys, is that it has
- 26:24Speaker 1: been so long since we have seen Nami and Brooke
- 26:27Speaker 1: and Chopper and all of them, that spending this much
- 26:31Speaker 1: time with this and not getting to see any of
- 26:35Speaker 1: our other characters for so long is I'm also kind
- 26:39Speaker 1: of feeling their absence more and more acutely and feeling like,
- 26:44Speaker 1: why can they have been a part of things here?
- 26:46Speaker 1: There was clearly time for it. And I'm talking at
- 26:49Speaker 1: this point about the actual manga because obviously I'm not
- 26:52Speaker 1: thinking that they're changing the story for the TV show,
- 26:55Speaker 1: so I'm assuming they were out of it for the
- 26:58Speaker 1: manga as well, But it just hits different when this
- 27:03Speaker 1: is drawn out like this, So there's a big part
- 27:06Speaker 1: of me that is also going where are they? Can't
- 27:09Speaker 1: they turn up? Like a little bit of wish fulfillment
- 27:13Speaker 1: would be what if Lufy was like passed out after
- 27:15Speaker 1: having overused as hockey and now here come Chopper and
- 27:19Speaker 1: Nam and Brook, you know, and we do something with them.
- 27:24Speaker 1: I know they are in a totally different place. They're
- 27:26Speaker 1: doing a totally different thing. It's a whole separate and
- 27:28Speaker 1: like I know that, but I think maybe, like in
- 27:33Speaker 1: my heart, a little tiny bit of me was secretly
- 27:36Speaker 1: sort of like maybe a little turn up and do
- 27:38Speaker 1: something amazing at the end and help. So anyway, Florian says, hey,
- 27:47Speaker 1: I want you to enjoy, and I think increasing episodes
- 27:49Speaker 1: can work toward that and is more fun for everybody.
- 27:55Speaker 1: And even when you shred into one piece, I love
- 27:57Speaker 1: it and find it valid. Okay, well you know, hopefully
- 28:02Speaker 1: other people agree. I know that it can get tiresome
- 28:05Speaker 1: to hear me like take something down. I get tired
- 28:09Speaker 1: of myself, but I also have to be honest about
- 28:14Speaker 1: this stuff. So I will stand by though that the
- 28:20Speaker 1: bounce Bounce Man thing is still very funny and I
- 28:24Speaker 1: do enjoy that. And I want to talk briefly about
- 28:28Speaker 1: this monologue that Do Flamingo does with Louvi, because you know,
- 28:32Speaker 1: the thing with him is that he does not believe
- 28:36Speaker 1: that he is a person. He believes that he is
- 28:38Speaker 1: a god, and anybody who is trying to fight back
- 28:42Speaker 1: against him is essentially defying a god. They're defying like
- 28:49Speaker 1: the natural order of things. And it's just such a
- 28:53Speaker 1: wild thing to believe that. I think It's why I
- 28:57Speaker 1: keep forgetting that he does believe in it. He is
- 29:05Speaker 1: he is just so completely assured of his own superiority
- 29:11Speaker 1: and says something about how like to be human is
- 29:14Speaker 1: to be born as trash, and everything about your existence
- 29:20Speaker 1: is up to us and we should be pulling the strings.
- 29:24Speaker 1: Nothing that you do is even really valid unless we
- 29:28Speaker 1: are the ones making you do it. And that was
- 29:33Speaker 1: a pretty interesting argument that he is, like, it's not
- 29:38Speaker 1: just that I want to destroy everything, but it is
- 29:43Speaker 1: I am giving anything you do meaning because without me
- 29:49Speaker 1: being involved, it wouldn't matter in any sense. And the
- 29:54Speaker 1: level of arrogance to really like buy into that is staggering.
- 30:00Speaker 1: So he makes this whole argument. Lufy does his punch,
- 30:05Speaker 1: and we have not only Do Flamingo with his like
- 30:08Speaker 1: spiderweb to protect himself, but he also does sixteen. I
- 30:14Speaker 1: think he just calls them god bullets or something like that,
- 30:19Speaker 1: and they wind up going against one another in a
- 30:22Speaker 1: very literal like Voldemort v. Harry Potter, Wing Wing wand
- 30:29Speaker 1: linkup where they're just like frozen and pushing against each other,
- 30:35Speaker 1: and finally Lufy's punch breaks through. You see him smash
- 30:43Speaker 1: into Do Flamingo's face, Do Flamingo's glasses break. The entire
- 30:51Speaker 1: island is like broken in half due to this fight.
- 30:57Speaker 1: This was very distressed to me. You guys know that
- 31:01Speaker 1: I have been made anxious by the state of the
- 31:03Speaker 1: actual kingdom for the whole episode and for us to
- 31:08Speaker 1: finally defeat Do Flamingo but also create a crater in
- 31:14Speaker 1: the island. A part of me was like, man, all
- 31:18Speaker 1: this for this fucking guy, Like is it even really
- 31:21Speaker 1: worth it? And he goes down into this hole and
- 31:27Speaker 1: Lufy is still as the bounce Man with his eye
- 31:30Speaker 1: makeup on, just watching him fall into this crater that
- 31:35Speaker 1: he made where there's the uh like weird secret harbor
- 31:40Speaker 1: that's underneath the island where they had been doing a
- 31:43Speaker 1: bunch of the slave trade stuff with the toys and
- 31:47Speaker 1: YadA YadA, and as Lufi is looking down at him,
- 31:52Speaker 1: he finally runs out of steam again, and he's it's
- 31:57Speaker 1: very funny because when he runs out of steam, he
- 31:59Speaker 1: just as if he were a balloon that somebody let
- 32:05Speaker 1: the air out of. And Law has to do room
- 32:11Speaker 1: to change Loofy with a rock that's falling so that
- 32:15Speaker 1: he doesn't just like hit the ground full speed. And
- 32:19Speaker 1: I don't know, guys, the fact that Lufy like that,
- 32:24Speaker 1: he that he goes so hard that he turns into
- 32:29Speaker 1: a deflated balloon. It's not like we haven't seen this
- 32:32Speaker 1: from him before. But I just felt for a moment like,
- 32:36Speaker 1: I'm really glad to Flamingo is not on the surface
- 32:38Speaker 1: to see this if he is still awake. I was,
- 32:40Speaker 1: you know, still thinking that maybe this wasn't over. So
- 32:44Speaker 1: a part of me was like, ugh, I just don't
- 32:46Speaker 1: you know, He's already been seen at his weakest. Let's
- 32:49Speaker 1: not do this again. So this is when we get
- 32:57Speaker 1: the some of the flashbacks of Rebecca and Violet looking
- 33:02Speaker 1: up at him and thinking back on like when they
- 33:05Speaker 1: first met him and how things were going. Then we
- 33:08Speaker 1: also have Yat who is doing his announcement about how
- 33:14Speaker 1: do Flamingo is finally defeated as the bird cage begins
- 33:21Speaker 1: to retract around the island and you start to see
- 33:25Speaker 1: the sky clearing up, and they are like, there's just
- 33:36Speaker 1: a few different moments of other characters who are thinking
- 33:41Speaker 1: back on moments they had that were terrible while dof
- 33:44Speaker 1: Flamingo was in power, And one of them is that
- 33:46Speaker 1: guy who had been trying to reconnect with his ex
- 33:50Speaker 1: girlfriend while he was still a toy and while she
- 33:52Speaker 1: still didn't remember him. This is actually a really good
- 33:55Speaker 1: example of like a side story that I think people
- 33:57Speaker 1: could have been invested in, especially considering the whole thing
- 34:02Speaker 1: with the toys is that they are meant to do
- 34:04Speaker 1: what they're told. So we had Kiro, says, the one
- 34:09Speaker 1: lone exception who was able to like organize this rebellion
- 34:13Speaker 1: because they didn't give him orders. But this guy is
- 34:18Speaker 1: able to go up to his ex and be like,
- 34:20Speaker 1: don't you remember me? I can't. Who is this guy
- 34:23Speaker 1: that you're with? You don't remember your boyfriend? And why
- 34:27Speaker 1: was he able to do that? What is it that
- 34:30Speaker 1: happened with him that caused him to either be able
- 34:34Speaker 1: to shake the orders he was given, or wind up
- 34:37Speaker 1: without orders at all, and that could be a story,
- 34:41Speaker 1: that could be something. So the retraction of the bird
- 34:49Speaker 1: cage is pretty much the moment where the entire town
- 34:52Speaker 1: is like, Okay, yes it's over here, and yeah is continuing.
- 34:58Speaker 1: This is in terms of another like back. He is
- 35:02Speaker 1: continuing to do this narration as if we were still
- 35:07Speaker 1: in the arena and all of the different people who
- 35:10Speaker 1: had been involved in the fight, and it's like kind
- 35:17Speaker 1: of fun because he starts like he doesn't actually say
- 35:22Speaker 1: any of their names, but we get the inclusion of
- 35:27Speaker 1: a bunch of people who weren't actually physically in the arena,
- 35:31Speaker 1: and that's Robin and Oosop and Law and all of
- 35:36Speaker 1: them are I think this is meant to symbolize like
- 35:39Speaker 1: being mentally sort of included in gets what do you
- 35:43Speaker 1: call it? His Oh my god, I keep wanting to
- 35:49Speaker 1: say narration, but that's not like really what it is
- 35:52Speaker 1: announcement is that it Seraphim says he wasn't given direct
- 35:57Speaker 1: orders not to It's just most toys don't buy because
- 36:00Speaker 1: they know no one will believe them and it'll just
- 36:02Speaker 1: get them in trouble. He wasn't given direct orders not to.
- 36:09Speaker 1: I thought that, like when they were that it was
- 36:11Speaker 1: just you know, you'll do what we say, and that okay.
- 36:17Speaker 1: So this brings up more questions then, because the idea
- 36:21Speaker 1: that most toys wouldn't bother trying to tell anybody, I
- 36:25Speaker 1: just don't really believe that. I think everybody would try,
- 36:30Speaker 1: even if you know intellectually that they're unlikely to believe you.
- 36:35Speaker 1: I think most people would think I can convince them
- 36:38Speaker 1: and would try anyway. I don't buy it, straight up,
- 36:45Speaker 1: I'm just gonna say it. I don't buy it. If
- 36:48Speaker 1: that's true, then that's bullshit. And if it's not true,
- 36:54Speaker 1: then it could be an interesting story. But either way,
- 36:59Speaker 1: oh well. So then we have a bunch of the
- 37:05Speaker 1: townspeople thinking back on how they fell for dof woman
- 37:07Speaker 1: goes bullshit, YadA, YadA. And we have Kiros, who had
- 37:13Speaker 1: spent so much time as this fucking tin doll, unable
- 37:19Speaker 1: to express any emotion, unable to even feel the body
- 37:24Speaker 1: heat of his wife, and he is finally breaking down
- 37:29Speaker 1: and crying in response to all of the tragedy that
- 37:33Speaker 1: he has endured. And as much as I don't give
- 37:35Speaker 1: a shit about Rebecca and Kiros, for the most part.
- 37:40Speaker 1: I did like this moment a lot because it has
- 37:44Speaker 1: been established that he couldn't express emotion before, and I
- 37:50Speaker 1: know that is meant to be mostly just a side
- 37:54Speaker 1: effect of him being turned into a toy, but there
- 37:57Speaker 1: is a part of me that felt like it's a
- 37:59Speaker 1: metaphor for being a warrior and how you are not
- 38:04Speaker 1: allowed to stop and feel the gravity of what it
- 38:09Speaker 1: is that's happening while it's happening. It's not until everything
- 38:15Speaker 1: is finally over and everything has been decided one way
- 38:19Speaker 1: or the other that you are finally given the room
- 38:22Speaker 1: and the grace to break down. So all right, then
- 38:30Speaker 1: we have the next episode where there's a moment with
- 38:35Speaker 1: Sabo and Jesus urges, and it's, honestly, it's kind of
- 38:44Speaker 1: funny because there is no moment where it feels like
- 38:48Speaker 1: Jesus Burgess stands a chance at all in any of this.
- 38:52Speaker 1: He has just been put down so thoroughly and keeps
- 38:56Speaker 1: behaving as if he stands to like eventually win, Actually
- 39:03Speaker 1: like he's gonna wear him down. Bruh, you're not doing it.
- 39:09Speaker 1: You're not wearing him down, You're wearing yourself down. This
- 39:13Speaker 1: dude is standing there like a fucking a grindstone that
- 39:20Speaker 1: you are just grinding yourself out against. And so he's
- 39:25Speaker 1: watching Sabo walk away and being like, aren't you gonna
- 39:30Speaker 1: finish me off? And Sabo is like, no, I think
- 39:36Speaker 1: I did enough and we're pretty much good. So then
- 39:40Speaker 1: Jesus Spurg just decides that he's gonna try and go
- 39:42Speaker 1: for Sabo on another level and says, you brothers are
- 39:46Speaker 1: a bunch of softies, and he eventually begins to poke
- 39:53Speaker 1: and prod at Sabo regarding Ace. Sabo meanwhile is getting
- 39:59Speaker 1: a call from Koala, and at first he is ignoring
- 40:04Speaker 1: it because this is when Sabo or Jesus is saying,
- 40:10Speaker 1: Ace told me, don't tell my brother about the you know,
- 40:15Speaker 1: losing this fight. Let's say I'm trying to find the
- 40:19Speaker 1: exact wording. I think you'll get a real kick out
- 40:22Speaker 1: of this. That's it I forgot. That's how he starts it.
- 40:28Speaker 1: He because again he's on the ground, like crawling towards
- 40:31Speaker 1: him once he realized he was going to get executed.
- 40:34Speaker 1: And I remember it clearly, he said, don't tell my brother,
- 40:39Speaker 1: And this is the like this moment is accompanied by
- 40:44Speaker 1: an image of Ace with his head drooping, looking very defeated,
- 40:51Speaker 1: and he says, what a dumbass he had no idea
- 40:53Speaker 1: how much weight his name carried. What a naive more
- 40:57Speaker 1: on that kid was, of course than an He would
- 41:00Speaker 1: run with that story. Heroically, they brought the vile firefist
- 41:05Speaker 1: Ace to justice. And as he is saying this, Sabo
- 41:09Speaker 1: reaches forward and clutches his whole face in one hand
- 41:14Speaker 1: and says, that's enough. Shut your mouth, and it looks
- 41:19Speaker 1: like is considering gouging this man's eyes out with his
- 41:22Speaker 1: fingers and thinks back to the moment when he saw
- 41:28Speaker 1: in the newspaper that Ace was going to be executed,
- 41:32Speaker 1: and how it has haunted him every night, and he says,
- 41:37Speaker 1: you don't have to tell me, because I already now,
- 41:41Speaker 1: and Sabo like, clearly his rage, he is starting to
- 41:46Speaker 1: crush Jesus Burgess's face. But Burgess has a knife behind
- 41:54Speaker 1: his back, and this moment of distraction is exactly what
- 41:59Speaker 1: he was looking for, so he's like, yeah, that's right,
- 42:02Speaker 1: get distracted, and I can't go back empty handed, so
- 42:07Speaker 1: he tries to strike out at Sabo, and Sabo it's
- 42:14Speaker 1: like he doesn't even break a sweat, it's nothing to
- 42:18Speaker 1: sidestep this attack. It's embarrassing. Jesus Burgess, drop it, continuing,
- 42:29Speaker 1: Oh you weren't there when he needed you most, yet
- 42:31Speaker 1: you call yourself family this sort of thing. It's just
- 42:35Speaker 1: it's funny because he's trying to get him off his
- 42:40Speaker 1: guard by saying things that I am assuming he is thinking.
- 42:44Speaker 1: This dude was telling himself in the moment. But I
- 42:51Speaker 1: am somebody who I always have trouble with this sort
- 42:56Speaker 1: of what's the word I want? Is it trope? I guess,
- 43:02Speaker 1: I guess it's a trope. But so when you have
- 43:05Speaker 1: an enemy who is attempting to take on the role
- 43:11Speaker 1: of that mean spirited voice in the back of your head,
- 43:18Speaker 1: when it's a person that you don't actually know, it
- 43:24Speaker 1: always sort of feels for me. If I were in
- 43:27Speaker 1: their situation, this would not hit at all because this
- 43:32Speaker 1: person does not know me or the situation or anything,
- 43:37Speaker 1: so they are just talking cash shit. But there are
- 43:40Speaker 1: times where you have this coming from a character who
- 43:43Speaker 1: does know the person really well. Maybe they just betrayed
- 43:46Speaker 1: them and it turns out that they were on the
- 43:49Speaker 1: other side the whole time, And those moments are when
- 43:52Speaker 1: I'm always just like, oh, this is really underhanded and
- 43:55Speaker 1: fucked up, and I feel like, you know, Jesus is
- 43:58Speaker 1: trying to do the underhanded, fucked up thing, but it's
- 44:02Speaker 1: just so weak sauce because he is nobody and nothing,
- 44:07Speaker 1: and so this attempt to just attack him when his
- 44:10Speaker 1: guard is down is pitiful. And going up against a
- 44:16Speaker 1: dude who has like taken the power that was calling
- 44:19Speaker 1: a guy fire fist and talk about underestimating your enemy.
- 44:27Speaker 1: And then Sabo says something interesting. He unleashes the flame
- 44:34Speaker 1: on Burgess. Burgess appears to basically completely dissolve, which this
- 44:42Speaker 1: might be one of the only times we've seen like
- 44:44Speaker 1: a real death in a while. And after this guy
- 44:50Speaker 1: is gone, Sabo looks at his hand that's on fire
- 44:56Speaker 1: and says to himself, I was gonna leave you, but
- 45:00Speaker 1: here said you deserved it. What Ace here? So is
- 45:08Speaker 1: that what he's calling his fist, is that what he's
- 45:12Speaker 1: calling the fruit? A part of me was almost like,
- 45:17Speaker 1: is there a tiny piece of the spirit of whoever
- 45:22Speaker 1: previously held the fruit remaining? And so he feels like
- 45:27Speaker 1: Ace is with him. I don't think it's meant to
- 45:30Speaker 1: be that deep, but I did sort of I was
- 45:35Speaker 1: thinking that maybe could be more than it sounded like,
- 45:39Speaker 1: I don't know. So this is when he finally picks
- 45:45Speaker 1: up the call from Koala, who is like, Dude, I
- 45:48Speaker 1: have been trying to get a hold of you. We
- 45:50Speaker 1: were attempting to warn you about Burgess and he literally says, yeah,
- 45:56Speaker 1: well who cares. I he got so mad at Sabo
- 46:02Speaker 1: just a moment ago. I was rooting for him. I
- 46:06Speaker 1: was on his side, and then he has to have
- 46:09Speaker 1: this attitude with her, and the way that I instantaneously went, ah, man,
- 46:16Speaker 1: fuck you. You guys don't even understand how irritated, like this
- 46:22Speaker 1: bitch is out here having your back and you are
- 46:26Speaker 1: going to pull that kind of energy with her disgusting. Yeah,
- 46:32Speaker 1: so you took care of him already, so she doesn't
- 46:36Speaker 1: know that she's doing her best from where she is
- 46:39Speaker 1: and maybe she could have just saved your ass. I
- 46:42Speaker 1: was so annoyed. Eventually he jumps over to don't worry
- 46:46Speaker 1: about it. I took care of it. But it was
- 46:48Speaker 1: just the immediate yeah, who cares that? I was like,
- 46:51Speaker 1: I'm gonna slap the shit out of you. So then
- 46:55Speaker 1: he asks her, did you find the list? Did we do?
- 47:00Speaker 1: We know what the list is. It's been so long, guys.
- 47:05Speaker 1: At this point I do not remember, but he says, Okay,
- 47:11Speaker 1: if you've got it, then let's get out of here.
- 47:13Speaker 1: Go to the underground near where the ship is, and
- 47:15Speaker 1: I'll meet you down there, and he hangs up on her,
- 47:20Speaker 1: and she is so annoyed that she decides to like
- 47:23Speaker 1: punch this dude. I'm not sure what this guy's deal is,
- 47:29Speaker 1: but she punches him because Sapo hung up on her,
- 47:33Speaker 1: which is deeply unfair. And that's pretty much all we
- 47:37Speaker 1: see of them for this episode. Then we go over
- 47:41Speaker 1: to the Marines, who are trying to clean up some
- 47:46Speaker 1: of the mess that is left here attempting. A bunch
- 47:50Speaker 1: of them are gathered around each of the executives, and
- 47:55Speaker 1: just a reminder for us that all of them, in
- 47:57Speaker 1: various places, are still down for the count and completely
- 48:03Speaker 1: like defenseless and helpless, except for in Senor Pink's case,
- 48:07Speaker 1: he has got his little coterie of ladies that are
- 48:10Speaker 1: trying to stop them from grabbing him up. Everybody else
- 48:14Speaker 1: hasn't got an entourage like him. He's the only one.
- 48:17Speaker 1: But it doesn't do him any good that they're there anyway,
- 48:19Speaker 1: because they just can't withstand the troops or anything like that.
- 48:23Speaker 1: It is a pretty fun moment though. So this is
- 48:32Speaker 1: when we get Fuji Tora and he is coming, like
- 48:41Speaker 1: you know, in the aftermath, we're seeing people trying to
- 48:45Speaker 1: clean things up, kids playing, talking to their parents about
- 48:50Speaker 1: whether everything is all right now. Finally, honestly, I understand
- 48:57Speaker 1: what we're doing, but like, the devastation is still so
- 49:00Speaker 1: huge and so real that kids running around smiling and playing.
- 49:05Speaker 1: I was like, I don't know if I even believed
- 49:07Speaker 1: that this would happen, would they be this ready to
- 49:10Speaker 1: like cut loose. I don't know, maybe they would. Kids
- 49:13Speaker 1: are very resilient and they just roll with stuff and
- 49:16Speaker 1: adapt so quickly that maybe they would just start to play.
- 49:22Speaker 1: So let's see. Uh, there's then we jump over to
- 49:28Speaker 1: this other country where there's like these everybody is wearing
- 49:31Speaker 1: like Native American headdresses and they have like a feather
- 49:38Speaker 1: monument in the center of their island. Then there's another
- 49:41Speaker 1: one where it's it looks like less specific. I don't
- 49:46Speaker 1: know where this is supposed to be or if we're
- 49:48Speaker 1: going to see the headdress people a little bit later,
- 49:51Speaker 1: but it's one of the marines who is making a
- 49:55Speaker 1: transmission from dress Rosa and is explaining the extent of everything,
- 50:02Speaker 1: all the destruction behind him, and the fact that dress
- 50:05Speaker 1: Rosa is basically a pile of rubble. At this point,
- 50:09Speaker 1: as he is informing everybody because this is the first
- 50:11Speaker 1: time that they had been able to communicate with the
- 50:13Speaker 1: outside world because the birdcage stopped all of this from
- 50:16Speaker 1: being transmitted. We go over to King Riku and all
- 50:23Speaker 1: of his people are saying, we don't blame you for
- 50:28Speaker 1: what happened. We know that he had control over you.
- 50:32Speaker 1: We know it will like you didn't mean to do
- 50:35Speaker 1: any of it, and he says, I really appreciate that, guys,
- 50:39Speaker 1: but please respect my decision. Even with that being absolved,
- 50:45Speaker 1: I just don't think that I am the right one
- 50:48Speaker 1: to stand on the throne or sit on the throne,
- 50:53Speaker 1: and I am very certain that Kiros is going to
- 50:57Speaker 1: wind up being king. Quite shortly, they keep like talking
- 51:01Speaker 1: about how there's nobody else that could possibly do the job,
- 51:05Speaker 1: and I was like, m no, I think there is actually,
- 51:10Speaker 1: So let's see, I'm trying to find this moment where
- 51:16Speaker 1: Elizabella comes up and starts talking to him, and he
- 51:21Speaker 1: says he's the one who says like yeah, come back
- 51:24Speaker 1: to the throne. You should do it. And honestly, you
- 51:27Speaker 1: guys know, from a while ago, I personally was like,
- 51:33Speaker 1: I don't see it for Ricu anymore, Like I appreciate
- 51:40Speaker 1: story wise why we're doing it this way, but it
- 51:45Speaker 1: just felt for me like when after you do something
- 51:49Speaker 1: like this, even if it isn't your fault, even if
- 51:53Speaker 1: it would just instill such a sense of like I
- 51:59Speaker 1: don't even want to say mistrust because I feel like
- 52:02Speaker 1: that sounds like I'm blaming him for it. But there's
- 52:05Speaker 1: just a sort of energy to your reign that is
- 52:08Speaker 1: going to be tainted to me. And I think I'm
- 52:11Speaker 1: coming at this from too much of a like song
- 52:13Speaker 1: of Ice and Fire perspective of like the actual literal
- 52:17Speaker 1: reality of how this would work. And thus I was
- 52:22Speaker 1: in agreement with him. So this is when Fuji Toura
- 52:26Speaker 1: steps forward and reminder like all of this is being broadcast,
- 52:29Speaker 1: so everybody is seeing this, and he says everything that
- 52:33Speaker 1: was that happened here was due to do Flamingo and
- 52:41Speaker 1: due to the fact that we have this garbage seven
- 52:45Speaker 1: war lord system that fucking failed you and the world
- 52:52Speaker 1: government who is supposed to be defending you and making
- 52:57Speaker 1: sure that this exact type of shit doesn't happen. Let
- 53:01Speaker 1: you down utterly, and then he apologizes and bows and
- 53:10Speaker 1: puts his like forehead on the ground, like the most
- 53:14Speaker 1: intense type of bow. Allow me to offer my most
- 53:19Speaker 1: humble apologies. And this is one of those moments where
- 53:26Speaker 1: I am simultaneously like, I am so glad that you're
- 53:33Speaker 1: acknowledging this, because Fujiitura, at the beginning of this whole thing,
- 53:37Speaker 1: was still trying to maintain that the system works, you know,
- 53:41Speaker 1: like it's not perfect, but it's what we have, you know,
- 53:45Speaker 1: this thing that we have all heard a million times.
- 53:47Speaker 1: But I also couldn't help but think get fucked, like
- 53:55Speaker 1: it's just one of the the I am jaded at
- 53:58Speaker 1: this point in my life with our garbage government here
- 54:03Speaker 1: in the United States doing horrible things and then being
- 54:07Speaker 1: like sorry and thinking that thoughts in prayers is gonna
- 54:11Speaker 1: be fucking helpful, and it it was like, I want
- 54:17Speaker 1: so much to feel the weight of this war, but
- 54:22Speaker 1: it's my beck with the fact that this sort of
- 54:26Speaker 1: shit is so meaningless here in the US. And I
- 54:31Speaker 1: say that here in the US because I feel like
- 54:35Speaker 1: this type of apology and the way the townspeople react
- 54:38Speaker 1: to it. I think in Japanese culture probably would have
- 54:45Speaker 1: a different feel to it, as like this is just
- 54:49Speaker 1: the first step in beginning to make amends and correct
- 54:51Speaker 1: our mistake. That the fact that we are publicly acknowledging
- 54:55Speaker 1: in this manner is a promise to you for the future,
- 55:01Speaker 1: and I think that is truly what is meant here.
- 55:05Speaker 1: But I am just sharing my gut reaction, which is
- 55:09Speaker 1: just the frustration with people who could have fucking done
- 55:17Speaker 1: something when things were happening, when you were told there
- 55:21Speaker 1: was a problem. You could have fucking done something, and
- 55:25Speaker 1: now the place is in ruins. How many people are dead,
- 55:31Speaker 1: and now you're like, oh, really we let you down. Yeah, yeah,
- 55:34Speaker 1: you fucking did. Like it's I am very, very embittered
- 55:43Speaker 1: by how much the government has let us down in
- 55:47Speaker 1: the United States and how they keep thinking that if
- 55:52Speaker 1: they just say the right thing, it'll somehow fix the
- 55:57Speaker 1: fact that our lives are at the mercy of our
- 56:02Speaker 1: employer's circumstances. You know. It's just I have a much
- 56:11Speaker 1: much more reduced tolerance for this kind of thing from
- 56:16Speaker 1: people who are walking around with actual power, from people
- 56:20Speaker 1: who could make a difference and do something, and instead
- 56:24Speaker 1: text me and email me asking me for five dollars
- 56:30Speaker 1: for what You have a job that I already elected
- 56:34Speaker 1: you to do and gave you money to make sure
- 56:37Speaker 1: you won that election, and now you're asking me for
- 56:40Speaker 1: more money even though you have the job and your
- 56:44Speaker 1: job is to campaign against this sort of thing, vote
- 56:48Speaker 1: a certain way, that's the whole thing, and you still
- 56:52Speaker 1: are coming to me without having done anything of material worth. Like.
- 56:59Speaker 1: It's just I get what it's supposed to be. I
- 57:03Speaker 1: am just saying how I feel about it, how I
- 57:05Speaker 1: responded to it because of what's been going on with
- 57:08Speaker 1: us here. It's just I am really really angry. And
- 57:15Speaker 1: so this sort of plot point h's very very different
- 57:18Speaker 1: these days than it did twenty twenty five. Is a
- 57:21Speaker 1: different lady, Saraphim says, uh, this is the first time
- 57:28Speaker 1: a representative of the World government has ever actually admitted
- 57:31Speaker 1: to be fucked up to the public. Fujitor's whole point
- 57:34Speaker 1: here is forcing the World government to finally admit this,
- 57:37Speaker 1: rather than cover it all up and spin it as
- 57:38Speaker 1: them being the heroes like they did with Alabasta. Yes,
- 57:41Speaker 1: and I understand that, Seraphim, I know what's happening. I like,
- 57:47Speaker 1: I get that. I am just saying that I have
- 57:50Speaker 1: encountered too many times We're going to take a stand
- 57:55Speaker 1: and point out the injustice, and then it's nothing, nothing happens,
- 57:58Speaker 1: nobody does anything. It's doesn't matter. And honestly, I fear
- 58:02Speaker 1: for Fujiita here because he does this thing, and I'm
- 58:05Speaker 1: just like, well, that's fucking rap on that guy. He's
- 58:08Speaker 1: about to get killed. Like my immediate response is you
- 58:12Speaker 1: put a target on your back, son, and I hope
- 58:16Speaker 1: that you actually manage to get something rolling, because I
- 58:20Speaker 1: just think the world government is not going to let
- 58:22Speaker 1: this stand, especially like I don't know exactly how the
- 58:28Speaker 1: Celestial Dragons view Do Flamingo. I have to assume they
- 58:33Speaker 1: do not see him as one of them in any sense.
- 58:37Speaker 1: I don't know how many other people who were outside
- 58:41Speaker 1: of his immediate group knew that he was a celestial dragon.
- 58:45Speaker 1: I think maybe it was just the Don Quixote pirates
- 58:49Speaker 1: that knew. Maybe I'm wrong, but I am curious because
- 58:52Speaker 1: the world government is basically in the Celestial Dragon's pocket.
- 58:57Speaker 1: Are the Celestial Dragons going to take exception to the
- 59:04Speaker 1: fact that Do Flamingo is so obviously guilty and being
- 59:09Speaker 1: held responsible. If it's known that he is one of them,
- 59:13Speaker 1: I have to assume they won't, that they don't see
- 59:16Speaker 1: him as really one of them, and that they think
- 59:18Speaker 1: of him as we have excommunicated him. He had nothing
- 59:23Speaker 1: to do with us, so I think probably that won't
- 59:26Speaker 1: be a factor. But all is to say I liked
- 59:34Speaker 1: this moment in what it is that he is trying
- 59:36Speaker 1: to do, but I have just reached this level of
- 59:41Speaker 1: nihilism with some of this that my immediate reaction was, well,
- 59:49Speaker 1: let's see what actually gets done, and you better watch
- 59:52Speaker 1: your back now, my guy, because this is really about
- 59:55Speaker 1: to be a fucking bloodbath. Probably like in the aftermath,
- 1:00:00Speaker 1: that's when some of the worst shit begins to happen,
- 1:00:03Speaker 1: because now it's a narrative that we're trying to control,
- 1:00:06Speaker 1: and we've got all kinds of dudes here that are
- 1:00:10Speaker 1: you know, press, that are taking notes, taking photos, and
- 1:00:15Speaker 1: they are sending out newspapers with all of the information.
- 1:00:21Speaker 1: So hopefully even if they try and take out Fujitora,
- 1:00:24Speaker 1: it doesn't matter. The info is out there. I honestly,
- 1:00:31Speaker 1: as much as like my feelings on this are valid,
- 1:00:35Speaker 1: I don't want that what I'm saying to be true.
- 1:00:39Speaker 1: I want this to be a big moment of like,
- 1:00:42Speaker 1: here's a total sea change in the way everything operates,
- 1:00:45Speaker 1: and I hope it is, and I like, just overall,
- 1:00:52Speaker 1: let's let ourselves have a possible redemption. There's a part
- 1:00:58Speaker 1: of me that just doesn't feel like that's really possible
- 1:01:00Speaker 1: anymore in life. But maybe he's a little treat we
- 1:01:04Speaker 1: could have it here, you know, that's fine. We check
- 1:01:09Speaker 1: in briefly with Rebecca, Violet and uh Law and Loofy,
- 1:01:15Speaker 1: who are on that roof. Still Loofy is passed out
- 1:01:19Speaker 1: with his head in Rebecca's lap. It's so funny, guys,
- 1:01:22Speaker 1: because this like head and her lap thing is such
- 1:01:25Speaker 1: a thing that keeps being brought up as particularly like
- 1:01:33Speaker 1: luxurious or sensual, you know, in this way, and it's
- 1:01:37Speaker 1: just so not really a thing here that when I
- 1:01:41Speaker 1: saw it, I was just sort of like, ah, that's cute,
- 1:01:43Speaker 1: And then I realized, like, actually, the way this is
- 1:01:46Speaker 1: often played is that it's like meant to mean more
- 1:01:51Speaker 1: than that, and I don't think that's what we're really
- 1:01:53Speaker 1: doing here. Lufy just never has a vibe like that
- 1:01:56Speaker 1: with anybody. But I also maybe Rebecca feels that way
- 1:02:00Speaker 1: about him. I don't know, but anyway, Okay, so I
- 1:02:06Speaker 1: have to wrap this one up. I am very interested
- 1:02:10Speaker 1: in seeing where the next episodes go because I just
- 1:02:15Speaker 1: want everybody to stand back and let mal Sherry go
- 1:02:21Speaker 1: through with her tears and completely heal the whole town
- 1:02:24Speaker 1: and rebuild all of the buildings and put everything back
- 1:02:27Speaker 1: to rights again. That's what I want in my heart,
- 1:02:30Speaker 1: and I don't think we're gonna get it, but we'll see.
- 1:02:34Speaker 1: We just have to wait and see. All right, everybody,
- 1:02:37Speaker 1: I have to wrap. Thank you again so much for listening.
- 1:02:39Speaker 1: Appreciate you all, and until next time to the loom motherfuckers.
- 1:03:13Speaker 1: That was an Unspoiled Network podcast.
