- 0:04Speaker 1: Hey, let's take some calls. 800-321-0710 is the number. Let's
- 0:10Speaker 1: go to Sandy in Rhode Island. Sandy, how are you doing?
- 0:14Speaker 2: Hi, Mark.
- 0:15Speaker 1: How are you?
- 0:15Speaker 2: I'm doing fine. How are you doing?
- 0:17Speaker 1: Let me check. Not bad. Not bad.
- 0:22Speaker 2: I don't usually call in on radio stations.
- 0:24Speaker 1: Yeah, we can tell.
- 0:25Speaker 2: I like you.
- 0:26Speaker 1: I want to read you something. Where are you in
- 0:29Speaker 1: Rhode Island?
- 0:31Speaker 2: Well, I've told you before, Wesley, Rhode Island.
- 0:33Speaker 1: What, am I supposed to remember this? We've talked to
- 0:35Speaker 1: millions of people here.
- 0:37Speaker 2: Well, you're so smart.
- 0:38Speaker 3: Oh, okay.
- 0:38Speaker 2: I think you could.
- 0:39Speaker 1: All right. What did you want to say?
- 0:41Speaker 2: It'll only take 30 seconds. I want to read you this.
- 0:44Speaker 2: I think it's funny.
- 0:45Speaker 4: Oh, God.
- 0:46Speaker 2: I've given up social media for the new year, and
- 0:49Speaker 2: I'm trying to make friends outside Facebook while applying the
- 0:52Speaker 2: same principles. Every day I walk down the street and
- 0:56Speaker 2: tell a passerby what I've eaten, how I feel, and
- 1:00Speaker 2: what I did the night before, and what I will
- 1:03Speaker 2: do today. I will do tomorrow. Then I give them
- 1:07Speaker 2: pictures of my family, my dog, and me gardening. I
- 1:11Speaker 2: also listen to their conversations and tell them I love them.
- 1:15Speaker 2: And it works. I already have three people following me,
- 1:19Speaker 2: two police officers and a psychiatrist.
- 1:21Speaker 1: All right. But, you know, here's the flaw in this.
- 1:25Speaker 1: If you're doing this on Facebook, you've connected and you're
- 1:28Speaker 1: friends with friends of yours so you're putting this to
- 1:31Speaker 1: people that you know or they're people that are following
- 1:33Speaker 1: you so they know you.
- 1:34Speaker 2: Well i got this from the readers digest it was
- 1:37Speaker 2: submitted by oh my.
- 1:38Speaker 1: God they still have that thing the readers digest i.
- 1:42Speaker 2: Don't know i thought it was funny.
- 1:44Speaker 1: The readers digest it still.
- 1:46Speaker 2: Exists i know but could you do this could you
- 1:49Speaker 2: walk down the street and just talk to a nobody
- 1:51Speaker 2: and just tell them i do it.
- 1:53Speaker 1: All the time.
- 1:56Speaker 4: That's great.
- 1:58Speaker 1: The Reader's Digest, you mean it's like a physical little
- 2:01Speaker 1: magazine you get?
- 2:03Speaker 5: Well, yes.
- 2:05Speaker 2: I mean, you're that young that you don't remember the
- 2:07Speaker 2: Reader's Digest.
- 2:07Speaker 1: I didn't know it was still around. I mean, do
- 2:09Speaker 1: you go online and read it, or do they actually
- 2:11Speaker 1: send it to you?
- 2:12Speaker 2: No, no, I've had this for a while. I read
- 2:15Speaker 2: it to people once in a while. I think it's funny.
- 2:17Speaker 1: Well, there's two people that look at the Reader's Digest,
- 2:19Speaker 1: you and Frank Barone on Everybody Loves Raymond. You remember
- 2:23Speaker 1: that episode? All right, thanks for calling, Sandy. Let's go
- 2:26Speaker 1: to Greg in Jersey City. Greg, how you doing?
- 2:31Speaker 5: Good, Mark.
- 2:32Speaker 4: When Disney bought ESPN, they shut down ABC Sports. Could
- 2:37Speaker 4: you envision, you know, Ellison shutting down one of those
- 2:40Speaker 4: two units, say, like have, you know, CNN on CBS
- 2:44Speaker 4: or just have, like, a CBS news channel?
- 2:49Speaker 1: Yeah, that's actually not a bad idea. CBS is one
- 2:51Speaker 1: of the networks that does not have a cable outlet.
- 2:54Speaker 1: Although NBC had MSNBC, and they realized it's a terrible
- 2:57Speaker 1: thing to have. So about a year ago, they threw
- 2:59Speaker 1: it out and got rid of it. Fox is a
- 3:02Speaker 1: broadcast network. It also has cable. Yeah, they could make
- 3:04Speaker 1: it a CBS cable network. Yeah, that would be a
- 3:06Speaker 1: good idea. Not a bad idea, actually. Let's go to
- 3:10Speaker 1: Ralph in Manhattan. Ralph, how are you doing?
- 3:14Speaker 3: Mark, wasn't it something how Mamdani did not respond to Netanyahu?
- 3:19Speaker 3: Netanyahu tore him apart, tore him to shreds. He had
- 3:22Speaker 3: nothing to say whatsoever. I found that the true character
- 3:26Speaker 3: to reveal the true character of the guy, didn't you?
- 3:29Speaker 1: Well, we know what the true character is. He's never
- 3:31Speaker 1: had a job. He doesn't work. He just does smiles
- 3:33Speaker 1: and does videos, makes TikTok videos and Does podcasts. That's
- 3:37Speaker 1: his true character. Doesn't actually do anything.
- 3:39Speaker 3: All that free stuff that he promised is not actually
- 3:42Speaker 3: coming through, as people can see. But I'll tell you something.
- 3:45Speaker 3: There are some people that still maintain their allegiance to
- 3:49Speaker 3: this guy. They love this guy. I'm talking about the
- 3:51Speaker 3: mayor right now. You'd be surprised how many people walking
- 3:53Speaker 3: around New York City still feel a kinship toward this guy.
- 3:56Speaker 1: You've got to remember, it's a younger crowd, and their
- 3:59Speaker 1: whole life is fantasy. It's video games. Nothing's real. So
- 4:02Speaker 1: it's the same thing with him. You do it on TikTok.
- 4:04Speaker 1: You smile. You make a TikTok video. You proclaim things.
- 4:08Speaker 1: You never actually do them. You just talk about them.
- 4:10Speaker 1: And that appeals to a lot of younger people. Let's
- 4:12Speaker 1: go to Vincent in Brooklyn. Vincent, how you doing?
- 4:15Speaker 5: Good morning, Mark. Mark, I'm okay. Mark, I don't know
- 4:19Speaker 5: why President Trump keeps giving credence and credibility to Mayor
- 4:24Speaker 5: Mondami by visiting him and then afterwards saying things like, oh,
- 4:29Speaker 5: he could do great things. The guy is... Mondami is
- 4:33Speaker 5: a dirtbag, period. That would be like the godfather going
- 4:38Speaker 5: to meet, going to the turf of some low-life bookie
- 4:43Speaker 5: who has maybe a book enabled of four square blocks
- 4:48Speaker 5: that he takes the numbers for. Are you kidding me?
- 4:52Speaker 1: The flaw in your argument is that this is not
- 4:55Speaker 1: some low-life bookie. This is the mayor of New York.
- 4:57Speaker 5: Yeah, but this is the mayor who constantly.
- 5:00Speaker 1: Says— No, he's terrible, and Trump can't stand him, but
- 5:02Speaker 1: he is the mayor of New York, so he's got
- 5:03Speaker 1: to try to straighten the guy out as best he can.
- 5:06Speaker 5: What's straightening him out, Mark? Stop with that crock of baloney.
- 5:09Speaker 5: He hasn't been able to do anything— I understand.
- 5:14Speaker 1: But he's got to try. He's got to at least
- 5:16Speaker 1: have some relationship with the guy. Also, remember, he owns
- 5:19Speaker 1: a massive business in New York.
- 5:20Speaker 5: He's trying to— And still, Mayor Mondami, once Trump leaves,
- 5:25Speaker 5: he trashes Trump. He trashes the Republicans. He trashes Netanyahu.
- 5:31Speaker 5: And please, everybody, stop with the five-step chess game that
- 5:36Speaker 5: Trump is playing. He is not.
- 5:38Speaker 1: Well, you've got to remember, it's not just Trump. Every
- 5:41Speaker 1: major figure in New York, every major CEO, business does
- 5:43Speaker 1: the same thing. They're all meeting with Mondami. They're talking
- 5:46Speaker 1: to Mondami.
- 5:46Speaker 5: Yeah, and Mondami's making fools out of everything. Yesterday, I
- 5:50Speaker 5: had a comeback at rush hour from 68th Street on
- 5:55Speaker 5: the FDR Drive. The traffic was moving about five miles
- 5:59Speaker 5: an hour. The city is a mess. The highway looked
- 6:04Speaker 5: like it was falling apart. The pilings are rusting. The
- 6:08Speaker 5: steel girders, the guards on the side of the highway,
- 6:13Speaker 5: it's a mess.
- 6:14Speaker 1: That's all true, but that was true every year in
- 6:17Speaker 1: New York. It was 20 years ago when Bloomberg was
- 6:19Speaker 1: the mayor. You'd be stuck in traffic in rush hour
- 6:22Speaker 1: on FDR Drive.
- 6:23Speaker 5: Not like now.
- 6:24Speaker 1: Yes, you would.
- 6:25Speaker 5: Not like now. Now, if it was going five miles
- 6:28Speaker 5: an hour, it was going very fast. That was always.
- 6:32Speaker 1: The case in rush hour in New York. Remember Giuliani
- 6:35Speaker 1: had to fire that traffic commissioner he had because the
- 6:38Speaker 1: traffic got so bad. It always happens.
- 6:41Speaker 5: Well, that doesn't matter. bode well for this city coming back.
- 6:47Speaker 5: All these fools who buy these million dollar apartments wait
- 6:52Speaker 5: in 10 years when they realize, oh my God, what
- 6:56Speaker 5: did I buy here? What did I buy?
- 6:58Speaker 1: Everybody was saying this 10 years ago when de Blasio
- 7:00Speaker 1: came in.
- 7:01Speaker 5: Yeah, and what about the fact that now we're paying
- 7:04Speaker 5: more for taxes, for water, for goods and services?
- 7:08Speaker 1: I understand. We'll get Blakeman in there and we'll get
- 7:10Speaker 1: that taxes reduced.
- 7:12Speaker 5: And how's he going to get it down when we
- 7:14Speaker 5: have all these nuts on the city council, the principal?
- 7:18Speaker 1: Well, he'd be working with the state legislature. He's pretty
- 7:20Speaker 1: good at that. He's done that all his life, negotiate
- 7:22Speaker 1: with Democrats. But Vincent, great call as always. Thanks for calling. Hey,
- 7:26Speaker 1: when we come back, the great actor, writer, producer, director,
- 7:30Speaker 1: William DeMeo. Have you seen the series Graves End? It's
- 7:34Speaker 1: like the new Sopranos. It's a new season coming up, too.
- 7:38Speaker 1: We'll talk to him next. It's a good show, Graves End.
- 7:40Speaker 1: We'll get to that coming up on 710WOR.
