- 0:00Speaker 1: Mister Gorbachev Junior, tear down that tent. It's one more thing.
- 0:06Speaker 2: I'm strong Andy, one more thing. I get it. It's
- 0:12Speaker 2: Ronald Reagan related being decisive.
- 0:16Speaker 1: That's right. We featured on the Raudio Show about a
- 0:19Speaker 1: minute and change worth of Ronald Reagan as governor California
- 0:23Speaker 1: in the sixties, talking about the protests that we're tearing
- 0:25Speaker 1: apart the campuses of California.
- 0:28Speaker 2: So, Katie, you're super young. So Ronald Reagan is to
- 0:32Speaker 2: you like Calvin Coolidge, just to me, just an historical figure.
- 0:38Speaker 3: One that somehow I miss even though I wasn't around.
- 0:41Speaker 2: Yeah, there you go.
- 0:42Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, So again, we featured some of this audio
- 0:46Speaker 1: on the show, but we thought we'd just let's spin
- 0:48Speaker 1: the whole thing and dig it along with us. Ronald freakin' Reagan,
- 0:52Speaker 1: if you need him.
- 0:53Speaker 4: Most people told you for days in advance that if
- 0:57Speaker 4: the university sought to go ahead with that instruction, they
- 1:01Speaker 4: were going to physically destroy the university.
- 1:04Speaker 5: Why would you negotiate?
- 1:05Speaker 4: Many times, negotiate what is to negotiate? What is the
- 1:09Speaker 4: university's and public institution.
- 1:11Speaker 2: That's right, but the university.
- 1:13Speaker 5: Its own community and for the community of Berkeley that
- 1:16Speaker 5: live around.
- 1:16Speaker 4: All of it began the first time, some of you,
- 1:19Speaker 4: who know better and are old enough to know better,
- 1:22Speaker 4: let young people think that they had the right to
- 1:25Speaker 4: choose the laws they would obey as long as they
- 1:27Speaker 4: were doing it in the name of social protesting. I'm
- 1:29Speaker 4: sick and tired of the argument about whether some effort
- 1:32Speaker 4: to enforce law and order is going to escalate anything
- 1:35Speaker 4: at all. Plain truth of the matter is this has
- 1:37Speaker 4: to stop, and it has to stop like the day
- 1:39Speaker 4: before yesterday. I would like to propose that the issue
- 1:42Speaker 4: is that on the campus is you who are adults,
- 1:46Speaker 4: You who are entrusted with those young people and their guidance,
- 1:50Speaker 4: have a responsibility to make it plain to them from
- 1:52Speaker 4: the very beginning that you yourselves do not tolerate the kind
- 1:56Speaker 4: of conduct that has led to the burning of Wheeler
- 1:59Speaker 4: Hall that has led the two murders on the campus
- 2:01Speaker 4: of UCLA. If you've created an atmosphere on the campus
- 2:04Speaker 4: where tell them wants to listen.
- 2:06Speaker 3: You are a liar.
- 2:08Speaker 5: I have read and I have been questioned since I've
- 2:10Speaker 5: been here about certain demonstrations against my coming, and I
- 2:16Speaker 5: would like to say just one thing, and to those
- 2:19Speaker 5: who demonstrate. So I wonder if they have ever asked
- 2:23Speaker 5: themselves that if they should have the kind of government
- 2:28Speaker 5: they apparently seek, no one would ever be able to
- 2:33Speaker 5: do what they're doing again doing anything. And I have
- 2:36Speaker 5: a feeling that if you check closely on some of
- 2:38Speaker 5: the more militant of those leaders who are advocating violence,
- 2:42Speaker 5: you find that if you settled whatever issue it is
- 2:45Speaker 5: that has them worked up today, they'll be back tomorrow
- 2:48Speaker 5: morning with another issue. But I think the time has
- 2:50Speaker 5: come for them to make a choice and to decide
- 2:54Speaker 5: whether they want to continue to even tolerate these false
- 2:58Speaker 5: prophets in their midst who are, if anything, destroying their
- 3:02Speaker 5: own community. I don't think that's taking to the streets
- 3:04Speaker 5: and rioting and disordered has ever solved anything.
- 3:07Speaker 1: Or ever will.
- 3:08Speaker 4: Those who would trade our freedom for the soup kitchen
- 3:10Speaker 4: of the welfare state have told us they have a
- 3:12Speaker 4: utopian solution of peace without victory. They call their policy accommodation,
- 3:16Speaker 4: and they say, if we'll only avoid any direct confrontation
- 3:19Speaker 4: with the enemy, he'll forget his evil ways and learn
- 3:22Speaker 4: to love us. All who oppose them are indicted as warmongers.
- 3:27Speaker 4: They say, we offer simple answers to complex problems. But
- 3:30Speaker 4: perhaps there is a simple answer. Not an easy answer,
- 3:34Speaker 4: but simple. If you and I have the courage to
- 3:37Speaker 4: tell our elected officials that we want our national policy
- 3:40Speaker 4: based on what we know in our hearts is morally right,
- 3:43Speaker 4: we cannot but buy our security, our freedom from the
- 3:46Speaker 4: threat of the bomb by committing an immorality so great
- 3:52Speaker 4: as saying to a billion human beings now enslaved behind
- 3:55Speaker 4: the iron curtain, give up your dreams of freedom, because
- 3:58Speaker 4: to save our own skins, we're willing to make a
- 4:00Speaker 4: deal with your slave mass. Recently, in some places in
- 4:03Speaker 4: the nation, there's been a disturbing reoccurrence of bigotry and violence.
- 4:08Speaker 4: If I may, from the platform of this organization known
- 4:12Speaker 4: for its tolerance, I would like to address a few
- 4:15Speaker 4: remarks to those groups who still adhere to senseless racism
- 4:20Speaker 4: and religious prejudice, to those individuals who persist in such
- 4:24Speaker 4: hateful behavior. If I were speaking to them instead of
- 4:29Speaker 4: to you, I would say to them, you are the
- 4:33Speaker 4: ones who are out of step with our society. You
- 4:37Speaker 4: are the ones who willfully violate the meaning of the
- 4:39Speaker 4: dream that is America and this country. Because if such
- 4:43Speaker 4: what it stands for will not stand for your conduct.
- 4:48Speaker 4: There are cities in Michigan art shut up.
- 4:59Speaker 2: Can you believe that, long before you were born, a
- 5:03Speaker 2: guy like that could be the two term governor of California.
- 5:06Speaker 2: I mean it's unthinkable now.
- 5:08Speaker 3: How how far we have just spiraled down, well.
- 5:12Speaker 2: Spiral left. But if you're a leged you think it's up.
- 5:17Speaker 1: Look around you. You're feeling accommodating today, and I encourage that.
- 5:21Speaker 1: It's a beautiful side of you. But down is corracked down.
- 5:24Speaker 2: It's a beautiful side of you. Yeah, you look around
- 5:27Speaker 2: and see all the homeless people and whatnot, rampant.
- 5:30Speaker 1: Crime, bums and junkies. Please.
- 5:32Speaker 2: Yeah. One thing Reagan said in there is that protests
- 5:36Speaker 2: have never accomplished anything. That's real damn close to true.
- 5:40Speaker 2: Outside of the Civil rights movement, there's very little to
- 5:44Speaker 2: show for protesting it. Somehow, maybe because of the Civil
- 5:50Speaker 2: rights movement, it's somehow caught on as like a right
- 5:52Speaker 2: of passage for young people and all that sort of stuff,
- 5:55Speaker 2: But that's not what really moves the needle on things.
- 6:00Speaker 2: It gets a lot of media attention, but there's no
- 6:03Speaker 2: concrete evidence of it doing much good. Most of the time, well, good.
- 6:09Speaker 6: When I was working for for a previous radio station,
- 6:12Speaker 6: I was going to several different protests that were taking
- 6:16Speaker 6: place in the Bay Area. They sent me to Occupy
- 6:18Speaker 6: Oakland when they were doing that whole anarchist thing, and
- 6:21Speaker 6: then you know the BLM stuff that happened.
- 6:23Speaker 3: There were a couple of other ones, and when I.
- 6:24Speaker 6: Was there, I would ask people what they you know,
- 6:27Speaker 6: why are you here? And I got a different answer
- 6:29Speaker 6: from everybody, And nobody really seemed to have one direct message,
- 6:33Speaker 6: and a lot of it they were just there to
- 6:36Speaker 6: party outside day drinking and it was it was almost
- 6:40Speaker 6: like a get together to hang out.
- 6:42Speaker 3: There wasn't a message.
- 6:44Speaker 2: Well, that's clearly true for a lot of the protesters.
- 6:46Speaker 2: She got crazy violent Marxists, and then a whole bunch
- 6:49Speaker 2: of people that are there to party, and then some
- 6:52Speaker 2: other factions.
- 6:52Speaker 1: I guess right. I think it's probably worth parsing the
- 6:55Speaker 1: very term demonstration. What are you demonstrating, generally speaking, the
- 7:00Speaker 1: popularity of your idea, or at least that's the intent.
- 7:04Speaker 1: I mean, if you're just demonstrating that you're mad about something, A,
- 7:08Speaker 1: I don't care, there aren't many of you, and B
- 7:10Speaker 1: just because you're mad doesn't mean you're right. So you're
- 7:14Speaker 1: ostensibly just demonstrating that you have numbers. There are a
- 7:17Speaker 1: lot of people that agree with me. But if that's
- 7:19Speaker 1: the case, you have to have a coherent message, and
- 7:22Speaker 1: the civil rights movement had an extremely coherent message and
- 7:27Speaker 1: an easy one to understand. These protesters saying Israel needs
- 7:33Speaker 1: to stop bombing Gaza. Okay, if it were merely that,
- 7:38Speaker 1: all right, you know, that's a stance. It's a point
- 7:40Speaker 1: of view. I haven't to disagree with it, but that's
- 7:43Speaker 1: a point of view. But it's way, way, way more
- 7:46Speaker 1: muddled than that, and is overtly pro hamas anti Jew,
- 7:49Speaker 1: anti Zionist, is just pro Marxism. It's completely muddled.
- 7:54Speaker 2: Well, right, and yeah, and if you're going to start
- 7:56Speaker 2: getting into Jews need to die, then obviously you've lost
- 8:01Speaker 2: any hope of having a majority on your side.
- 8:04Speaker 1: Well, and the what's the reverse of nut picking, nut ignoring,
- 8:09Speaker 1: nut forgiving. If demonstration on the right takes place and
- 8:16Speaker 1: there are a handful of lunatic racists, white supremacist Nazis, whatever,
- 8:21Speaker 1: the entire thing is tarred with their stupidity. Maybe appropriately,
- 8:26Speaker 1: I don't know, but it's like the opposite now going
- 8:30Speaker 1: on in college campuses, the anti Jewish rhetoric, anti Semitism,
- 8:37Speaker 1: the hatred of the pro Hamas, the pro October seventh
- 8:40Speaker 1: is overt It's a significant percentage of those people, and
- 8:43Speaker 1: still you get the media saying, well, it's mostly peaceful.
- 8:46Speaker 2: Maybe I'm wrong about the politics on this. I don't
- 8:48Speaker 2: think i am, But I'm just surprised that there aren't
- 8:51Speaker 2: more people taking a lead that are on the left.
- 8:53Speaker 2: I think if Gavin Newsom, the governor of California, had
- 8:55Speaker 2: come out with a statement and said, yesterday I saw
- 8:57Speaker 2: that Jewish kid being turned away from class, we will
- 9:00Speaker 2: not tolerate that nostalic state of California. That is a crime,
- 9:03Speaker 2: and it will be punny. I mean, I think that's
- 9:05Speaker 2: a majority win, even in blue blue California.
- 9:08Speaker 1: Yeah, send it in the National Guard. Make sure the
- 9:11Speaker 1: Jewish kids can get to school, get to class and
- 9:13Speaker 1: without fear for their lives.
- 9:15Speaker 2: And he could even throw in because he's got to
- 9:17Speaker 2: in California. I stand up for trans rights, I stand
- 9:20Speaker 2: up for African American rights, I stand up for gay rights,
- 9:22Speaker 2: and I stand up for you know, and do that
- 9:24Speaker 2: whole thing. Yeah, that's a majority position.
- 9:28Speaker 1: I can't believe in the year twenty twenty four, I
- 9:31Speaker 1: just had to utter the sentence, we need to do
- 9:34Speaker 1: something so the Jewish kids can get to the classes safely.
- 9:37Speaker 1: I can't believe I'm saying. Yeah.
- 9:39Speaker 2: I heard a reporter on an MSNBC saying this morning
- 9:43Speaker 2: when I was watching, actually said they were going to
- 9:46Speaker 2: do our Jewish students feeling afraid there. He said, they
- 9:49Speaker 2: aren't feeling afraid. They are afraid, and for good reason.
- 9:53Speaker 2: Said the correspondent on MSNBC at one of the campuses.
- 9:57Speaker 3: That is just so crazy how backwards we've gone.
- 10:00Speaker 2: It is and without like a lot of notice from.
- 10:04Speaker 1: And by our colleges and universities. Right, well, I guess
- 10:11Speaker 1: that's it.
