- 0:47Speaker 1: Welcome to today's edition of Reflection on the Word with
- 0:50Speaker 1: Richard K. I'm Chuck Christie, and today we are asking
- 0:54Speaker 1: you to spend a few moments of your time with
- 0:56Speaker 1: us each day as Richard shares from God's work with notes, quotes,
- 0:59Speaker 1: and stores, along with some of his own personal experiences,
- 1:02Speaker 1: to confirm for you God's great love for us, that
- 1:05Speaker 1: his compassion for us never fails, and that He has
- 1:08Speaker 1: a great faithfulness toward us in every regard. In Lamentations,
- 1:12Speaker 1: Chapter three, verses twenty two and twenty three, we read,
- 1:16Speaker 1: because of the Lord's great love, we are not consumed,
- 1:20Speaker 1: for his compassions never fail. They are new every morning.
- 1:24Speaker 1: Great is your faithfulness. Now, if you miss a portion
- 1:27Speaker 1: of today's broadcast or would like to recommend it to
- 1:29Speaker 1: a friend, you can hear this program anytime online at
- 1:33Speaker 1: Talknetwork Radio dot com. Well, now here's Richard with today's reflection.
- 1:39Speaker 2: How the Mighty have Fallen? Tewod Samuel one twenty seven,
- 1:45Speaker 2: reading a message from our Daily Bread entitled the Last Call.
- 1:53Speaker 2: As we prepare for the Memorial Day weekend, this gives
- 1:59Speaker 2: us a little bit of a means of being able
- 2:04Speaker 2: to see the meaning and preparation for Memorial Day. What
- 2:11Speaker 2: we want to do is to look at this particular
- 2:14Speaker 2: account written by Tim Gustavson. He entitled it The Last Call.
- 2:22Speaker 2: After serving his country for two decades as a helicopter pilot,
- 2:27Speaker 2: James returned home to serve his community as a teacher.
- 2:31Speaker 2: But he missed helicopters, so he took a job flying
- 2:35Speaker 2: medical evacuations for a local hospital. He flew until late
- 2:40Speaker 2: in his life. Now it was time to say goodbye
- 2:44Speaker 2: to him. As friend's family and uniformed co workers stood
- 2:49Speaker 2: vigil at the cemetery, a colleague called in one last
- 2:54Speaker 2: mission over the radio. Soon the distinctive sound of roots
- 3:00Speaker 2: beating the heir could be heard. A helicopter circled over
- 3:04Speaker 2: the memorial garden, hovered briefly to pay its respects, then
- 3:09Speaker 2: headed back to the hospital. Not even the military personnel
- 3:14Speaker 2: who were present could hold back their tears. When King
- 3:19Speaker 2: Saul and his son Jonathan were killed in battle, David
- 3:23Speaker 2: wrote an elegy for the ages called the Lament of
- 3:28Speaker 2: the Boat. A gazelle lies slain on your heights, He sang,
- 3:34Speaker 2: how the mighty have fallen? Jonathan was David's closest friend
- 3:40Speaker 2: and brother in arms, and although David and Saul had
- 3:44Speaker 2: been enemies, David honored them both. Weep for Saul, he wrote,
- 3:51Speaker 2: I grieve for you, Jonathan, my brother.
- 3:55Speaker 1: Richard will be right back in a moment to wrap up.
- 3:58Speaker 1: But if you've just joined us, you've been looking listening
- 4:00Speaker 1: to Reflections on the Word with Richard K. You can
- 4:03Speaker 1: hear this message in its entirety again online as well
- 4:06Speaker 1: as Richard's entire archive at Talknetwork Radio dot com. We
- 4:11Speaker 1: would like to acknowledge our theme song, how Great Is
- 4:14Speaker 1: Thy Faithfulness from the America's twenty five Favorite Hymns Album,
- 4:18Speaker 1: unless otherwise. Express scriptures are read from the Holman Christian
- 4:22Speaker 1: Standard Bible, which is published by Homann Bible Publishers in Nashville, Tennessee.
- 4:28Speaker 1: Additional resources used for Reflections on the Word with Richard
- 4:31Speaker 1: K include Great Is Thy Faithfulness by Our Daily Bread
- 4:35Speaker 1: and printed by Discovery House Publishers. Again, here is Richard
- 4:39Speaker 1: to wrap up today's message.
- 4:42Speaker 2: Even the best goodbyes are oh so difficult, But for
- 4:47Speaker 2: those who trust in the Lord, the memory is much
- 4:51Speaker 2: more sweet than bitter, for it is never forever. How
- 4:58Speaker 2: good it is when we can honor those who have
- 5:02Speaker 2: served others. Lord, we thank you for those who served
- 5:07Speaker 2: their communities as first responders. We humbly ask you for
- 5:13Speaker 2: their safety. We honor the Creator when we honor the
- 5:19Speaker 2: memory of his creatures. And that is today's Reflection on
- 5:27Speaker 2: the Word.
- 5:28Speaker 1: Thank you, Richard. Join us again tomorrow when we continue
- 5:31Speaker 1: with the next edition of Reflections on the Word with
- 5:34Speaker 1: Richard K. For Richard and the entire team, this is
- 5:37Speaker 1: Chuck Christie saying thanks for listening to this edition Reflections
- 5:41Speaker 1: on the Word.
